Homosexuality In Dracula
The sexuality downplayed in the Victorian culture is able to be exploited in Stoker s writing because
of the social norm to express sexuality through literature. The cultural (literary and aesthetic) was
consumed with images of mystical, deadly and sexually enticing female subjects to exemplify what a
fallen woman is (Moore). A painting by E.C. Barnes made in the 1860 s shows the moral downfalls of
a woman working in a city. The insinuations of the painting direct the viewer into seeing the darkness
and negative connotations of a working woman. There are implications to what may happen to the
woman if she lets her guard down. Woman of the Victorian era are able to relate to these paintings and
pieces of literature. They are warned of the dangers of displaying sexuality and intelligence. Aside
from warning culture of the dangers of immorality, authors and artists are able to give pleasure to the
culture through their pieces. Because of the conservative society, being sexually immoral is forbidden.

And again, before we delve into the novel, it is important to establish some historical context of Stoker
s own struggle with homosexuality. Stoker is himself, a hidden homosexual. Dracula is written a
month after Stoker s longtime partner, Oscar Wilde, is imprisoned for his homosexuality. Watching his
friend go through trial must have caused many of the internally conflicting emotions which led Stoker
to personally view (and portray) any sexuality as a vile and painful source of evil and despair
(Podonsky). Stoker must have felt guilt from what Wilde went through and it must have cultivated a
hate towards the homosexuality in himself. Now that we know Stoker s experience with
homosexuality, we can see how he places it in such a bad light throughout

Reducing Barriers to Free Trade Essay
Introduction Free trade has long be seen by economists as being essential in promoting effective use
of natural resources, employment, reduction of poverty and diversity of products for consumers. But
the concept of free trade has had many barriers to over come. Including government practices by
developed countries, under public and corporate pressures, to protect domestic firms from cheap
foreign products. But as history has shown us time and time again is that protectionist measures
imposed by governments has almost always had negative effects on the local and world economies.
These protectionist measures also hurt developing countries trying to inter into the international trade
markets. With the recent global recession we ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
2009). This in itself shows the high standards of sustainability can be made from free trade (Gidney,
M. 2009). Fair trade provides two key benefits that can help with the current world economic crisis.
First it provides sustained benefits for producers that can help maintain their business through
fluctuations of the world market (Gidney, M. 2009). Second, fair trade helps to maintain fair prices,
additional social premium, and long term partnerships that help provide better living standards for
millions of people in over 60 countries (Gidney, M. 2009). Free trade cannot grow without the aid of
governments to help promote and sustain it. Governments must support free trade by first modifying
current trade policies to remove barriers against free trade. Lastly governments must act and enforce
regulations to protect against unfair trade practices.
What can Governments do to promote free trade? The basis of free trade is that in a growing economy
the comparative advantage shows that resources flow from lower productivity to those with higher
productivity (Carbaugh, 2009). Along with increased employment in developing countries and higher
standard of living, consumers benefit from more diversity on the market and cheaper prices. One of
the baggiest challenges government s faces is the pressure from public and domestic firms to protect
the local work force from cheap foreign imports. Governments must find

War and peace, a struggle still plagues society after 2,400 years makes Lysistrata relevant to the

As soon as the audience enters the auditorium, they are greeted with a modern impression of an

Argumentative Essay On Wicca
To understand the great right, you first have to understand that Wicca is a fertility religion. The
founder of Wicca Gerald Gardner explains Wicca as a very ancient ritualistic religion based on
survival. This rite is more closely based on the ritual of Beltane. During the Beltane rites the high
priest or priestess will enact the fertility rite by inserting the athame (which represents the horned god)
into the chalice (which represents the mother goddess). This is a form of sympathetic magick where
we enact a bigger picture with our own ritual tools. Before i did the research i honestly thought the
great rite had Something to do with sex. While it does indeed have to do with sex its much more about
fertility. I now know that the great rite has everything to do with praying to the gods through ritual.
Praying for fertility to the earth, animals and plants. Author Vivianne Crowley says in Wicca: The Old
Religion in the New Age, The outer rite involves a linking of the male and the female; the sacred
marriage is outwardly a marriage of two people, but inwardly it is a marriage of the two within one
person. The Great Rite is more than just a sexual union; it is the enactment of the creation of the
universe itself in the Wiccan tradition. In modern Wicca, many practioners can and will use sex in
ritual but this is more often than not used in personal practice. When a man and woman are both
practices of the faith and perform rituals together this is an acceptable way to end the

Michigan State Spartans Tournament
The Michigan State Spartans always seem to be poised for a deep run in the NCAA Tournament. Ever
since Michigan State head coach Tom Izzo s arrival in East Lansing, Mich., the Spartans have
appeared in seven Final Fours. In addition to their success in the postseason, the Spartans have had
several players find success at the next level. Most recently, Denver Nuggets shooting guard Gary
Harris, Minnesota Timberwolves power forward Adreian Payne and All Star power forward and NBA
champion Draymond Green.
Izzo s sustained success at Michigan State has become so mundane that every one of his seasons seem
to get overlooked. In the midst of the Wisconsin Badgers run to the championship game and the
Kentucky Wildcats perfect regular season last year, the Spartans managed to finish the regular season
with a 27 12 (12 6 in conference) record and a berth in the Final Four.
This season, Michigan State is led by senior shooting guard Denzel Valentine, who s a contender for
the Player of the Year award. Valentine is college basketball s version of Oklahoma City Thunder
point guard Russell Westbrook. The 6 foot 5 guard averages nearly 20 points and eight rebounds with
a little more than seven assists per game with the Spartans. Valentine is extremely accurate from

Analysis Of God s Frankenstein
Evan Ortiz 4.07.15 Andrew Keese British Literature God Created Adam to Kill His Angels Mary

other Frankensteins of its own. Arguably this is the most foundational work of horror fiction in
modern day literature. The novel has had a cultural impact on: Marvel Comics version of
Frankenstein, the multiple movie spinoffs, to a common household brand. Many think they know
Frankenstein, in reality the story you may have heard is far from the truth. Mary Shelly s Frankenstein
also works as a what not to do in the situation of creator vs. created. Victor Frankenstein turned
passion of animation into an immoral balance of immortality, someone who sought out to be a
personal God without being the one held responsible. It was Victor s ego, his unnatural aims, and his
inability to take responsibility that was to blame for the monsters actions. What ever we think of
Victor s pursuits whether noble or ignoble, it is at its fundamentals, humane. He says that he sets about
the creation of a human being in the hopes of banishing disease from the human frame and rendering
man invulnerable to any but a violent death. While his intentions were noble the actions only had
horrible repercussions. Something then happens when Victor s creation comes to life. Victor no longer
sees it as a human being, but as a monster. The Preconceived notion of the monster as Human is only
discredited

Persuasive Essay On Belief
Belief having an affinity in believing something is true. This single word, vague, and short. As
submissive as it is, Belief tends to get on roads that it never means to. The road diverges into two, and
a choice has to be made. Manipulation passes, and it takes a hold of Belief. Without any knowledge,
he willingly follows. This is the basis of a belief. I love the manipulation angle. Usually I think of
belief as such a positive, hopeful word. But you are right... it is equally dangerous. Good. The basis of
belief, has been shattered explain a bit. By what? How so? . All the pieces of it have been scattered
everywhere. You can t do much with a puzzle piece if you don t know where it goes, so get ready to
visualize. Visualize the perfect end point for your belief, whether it s a 5 piece or an 1000 piece
puzzle. It always makes sense to start with the corner pieces first, so we are going to do that.
Transition a bit more fully here? So what is cognitive bias then? It is what makes our minds believe
things, without even giving us a choice. These mechanisms in our head cause us to make usually
biased and unfair decision, which is why it s important to be aware of them. Take the idea of
bandwagoning of course, the most known bias. This is where you just do what everyone else is doing,
without any personal regard to yourself or to anyone else, all because someone else is doing it. You
may think that you aren t susceptible, but everyone is because it happens subliminally. and

Atticus Finch Courage Research Paper
Lucas Tomaselli
Honors English I
Courage
The word courage heroically pervades all aspects of life whether it is in a movie, book, video game, or
real world incident. Courage is when someone or something stands up for their beliefs despite any
intimidation or danger that may face them in the process. A person of this merit never puts another in
harms way in order to protect him or herself. In Harper Lee s To Kill a Mocking Bird, Atticus Finch
displays valor more than any of the surrounding characters. His courage was one that reminded me of
a brave man who stood up for equality and people of all races during the 1960 s. His name was Martin
Luther King Jr. and he had a positive impact on society just as Mr. Finch did. Atticus finch displays ...

both exhibited the noblest type of courage: acting out to support their idea of what was right regardless
of the consequences. The men were hated and threatened their fair share, but kept on supporting their
ideas. Atticus supports Tom Robinson because he believes that as a man, there is no other option. He
feels it is duty to do what her can to save a life and if he does not act than it would be the same as
convicting Tom Robinson himself. This case, Tom Robinson s case, is something that goes to the
essence of a man s conscience Scout, I couldn t go to church and worship God if I didn t try to help
that man. (Lee 145). However, Martin Luther King Jr. protested for a slightly different reason. His
goal was to unite the people of a single nation that was driven apart by racism. The two men were both
very influential speakers and could use their words to connect to audiences throughout the pathos of
their speeches. Another similarity between Atticus and King is that they both stood up against racism
regardless of the fact that it put both of them at great risk. Neither man believed in using violence.
Martin Luther King Jr. exhibits this through his non violent protests, and Atticus through his words
and actions. I wanted you to see what real courage is, instead of getting the idea that courage is a man
with a gun in his hand. It s when you know you re licked before you begin but you begin anyway and
you see it through no matter what. You rarely win, but sometimes you do. (Lee 149). Atticus was
teaching his children that real courage is not just blind violence, but it is finishing what you start and
doing what you believe in, even if others do not

Descriptive Essay About Rock
One fine, beautiful morning, just as the Sun was rising, Steven hopped out of bed, and went directly to
the place he always goes. The Sunset Beach. Everything was great, but then, his day, no, his life took a
very unexpected turn. Steven is a twenty five year old man. He had lived with his parents for the
majority of his life, but had just moved out within the past year. He has dark brown eyes, and dusty
blonde hair. He is about five six, which is a little short for his age, but it doesn t bother him all that
much. In his spare time, he likes to participate in many city activities, or turn to one of his hobbies.
One hobby that he particularly enjoys is collecting rocks.
Every morning when he goes to Sunset Beach, he brings back about a dozen rock friends, just like he
did this morning. As Steven was walking, he found a beautiful, shiny, bright green Petoskey Stone. He
did not have one in his collection, so he decided to take it home with him. Little did he know that in a
few hours , this rock would change his life forever. Legend says, that whoever holds the magical
Petoskey Stone takes a very unexpected trip everyday at noon. This trip starts their life everyday, and
then one day ends it in a heartbeat. This rock fast forwards through the life of the person that has
possession of it, and continues to until one day it thinks they have lived long enough, and they die.
The scary part is, they never know which day they will be gone forever. Eventually, Steven arrived

The Revolutionary Scheme Of The Texas
The Texas revolution has fascinated Americans for more than a century now, from the epic martyrs of
the Alamo to the unexpected victory of San Jacinto. Lost in all the glory and pain are some forgotten
actors like the New Orleans Greys volunteers or the land speculators. Indeed, the Crescent City always
seems to be left out of classical interpretation of the revolutionary scheme of the Texas. What was the
role of New Orleans? By looking at newspapers published between 1836 and 1839, the city
implication would be put into perspective, using Texan battles description, drafting lists and land sales
ads, to provide insight on the military implications and commercial ties. The Texan revolution is more

The recruitment in New Orleans could be dated back to the beginning of the conflict in 1835. Indeed,
in October of that year, the first volunteers were drafted during a meeting at the Bank s Arcade
building. A lot of the young men in the attendance were to enroll themselves on that night and the
New Orleans Greys volunteers regiment was founded. Their involvement into the Texas revolution
would be essential and decisive but, strangely, forgotten by many. At the time, the Mexican
government openly accused the American government of not doing enough to stop the flow of armed
volunteers, who crossed the border to join the Rebels. In fact, while the United States didn t implicitly
supported the revolution, their duplicity and unwillingness to fix the problem indirectly helped the war
effort. During the month of October 1835, the newly formed New Orleans Grey regiment took the
road to Nacogdoches, entered Texas by the Sabine river and reached San Antonio de Bexar(San
Antonio) by December. It represented a turning point in the young revolution, because the troops
waiting for them had besieged the city since October, unable to defeat the Mexican garrison. The
arrival of the Greys proved to be game changer: (...) several Texan leaders including Stephen F. Austin
will credit the Greys arrival with preventing the collapse of the army and, therefore, the revolution
itself. . They were on the frontline, fighting house by house and ensured victory. Those

based on the fact that the transactions were not made at arm s length.
Non exclusive Mixon factors that contributed to the decision:
1. Name given to certificates: Labels on documents conclude that the advances say they are debt, but
labels alone cannot change equity to debt. This factor favors the advances treated as debt, but there is
less weight to this factor because it is based on form rather than substance.
2. Presence or absence of a fixed maturity date: Although fixed maturity dates existed, postponing
maturity suggests a lack of intent to require repayment. This factor supports the treatment of the
advances as equity because the directors did not intend to request repayment and continually extended
the maturity dates, never enforcing them.
3. Source of payments: The petitioners claim liquidity and the ability to pay interest or principal on
amount owed, but conclusive findings show the insufficiency to pay interest or principal balance. This
factor supports the treatment of the advances as equity.

Blue Collar Brilliance Analysis
Synthesis Essay
My college professor asked our class one day, What is the first thing that comes to your mind when
you think of intellectualism? My immediate response consisted of text books, school, and multiple
hours of studying. However, after reading a few articles covering different viewpoints on
intellectualism, I had a change of thought. Intellectualism within schools, and society today falls under
one category: the book smarts. Many people think others are intelligent because of their degrees, good
paying jobs, or the level of education they ve received. However, these are not the only contributing
factors which lead to intelligence. The two articles, Hidden Intellectualism by Gerald Graff, and Blue
Collar Brilliance, by Mike ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This way of teaching may seem like the easiest, most efficient route, but it is not necessarily the most
practical. Based on Gerald Graff s personal experiences, he has come to the conclusion that schools
and colleges are missing an opportunity when they do not encourage students to take their
nonacademic interests as objects of academic study, (Graff 270). In other words, schools should start
to focus on more extracurricular activities and sports, and transferring that passion into more scholarly
subjects. Coming from a professor at the University of Chicago, who initially claimed himself to be an
anti intellect, this statement shows the true significance of non educational activities and how they are
equally valuable to other things considered more intellectual. Likewise, many blue collared job
individuals are looked down upon by the eyes of society, due to not valuing non academic work. Blue
collar jobs typically are jobs that consist of any manual labor, these jobs include: Plumbers, servers,
electricians, etc. These jobs tend to be viewed as low class, and unintelligent. On the other hand, jobs
that are not blue collar jobs such as white collar jobs, tend to be more professional and higher class.
This misconception is a problem with society, and is touched upon in Rose s article. Mike Rose s
mother, and uncle both work blue collar jobs, inspiring his dis agreeance in the idea that Intelligence is
closely associated with formal education the type of schooling a person has...and most people seem to
move comfortably from that notion to a belief that work requiring less schooling requires less
intelligence, (Rose 276). Mike s mother, Rosie quit school in seventh grade and worked as a waitress
acquiring skills that [...] demands of both body and brain, (Rose 274). This shows even though Rosie

social networks and the wide spread of smart phones, it is becoming more and more frequent and
convenient for individuals to share resources, such as status, texts, photos, videos, and so on, with
their friends over online social networks. Since online resources might involve several users at the
same time, it is not enough to protect the privacy of users with the simple group based access control
model (GBAC), which only regards privacy requirements of the resource owner. In order to provide
augmented privacy protection for resource publication in on line social networks, this paper proposes
the concept of resource involvers and a new access model named Patronus[SR1], in which, the privacy
requirements of the resource owner and its corresponding involvers are both taken into considerations.

The Navajo People and Their Environmental Concerns Essay
The Navajo People and Their Environmental Concerns
Introduction
This nation was built on the foundation that All Men are Created Equal. Under the eyes of God, no
man is better than another. This has held our nation together and forced us to exist interdependently.
We are fortunate to live in a nation that possesses such a wealth of diversity. It makes our nation
unique and gives people the opportunity to learn about the beauty of culture. However, history has
shown us that not all have embraced diversity. For this reason, civil rights movements have long been
a part of our history. Citizens of this country recognize key figures in Civil Rights movements such as

with unwritten boundaries. Cases of such cultural displacement exist amongst indigenous people

Before 1866, the Mapuche lived on over 100,000 square kilometers of land. Between 1866 and 1927,
they were forced to then live on 5,000

Argumentative Essay On Beauty Pageants
In 1854 instead of judging woman or young girls on their looks, Phineas Taylor Barnum began
judging animals on their looks, this was the first beauty pageant. The first swimsuit competition was
held in 1880 at a festival to bring business however, it soon became a summer tradition . Women from
all around the world became interested in them, wanting to be seen as the perfect woman. Currently,
there are 3 different types of beauty pageants, a glitz pageant consists of the contestants wearing heavy
makeup, crystal decorated clothes and wearing slip on veneers. Another type of pageant is named a
semi glitz pageant which is very similar to the glitz pageant , except contestants are not allowed to
wear any hair pieces or slip on veneers. The third type of pageant is referred to as the natural pageant ,
contestants are permitted to wear natural makeup and will be disqualified if any hair piece or slip on
veneers are worn. Each of these different pageants are taken very seriously by its contestants with the
goal in mind of winning the crown. Many contestants will often make drastic or permanent changes,
forced by their guardian or parent(s) if they think they have a better chance of winning. Beauty
pageants exist only to judge girls based on their looks, which can be extremely damaging, both
physically and emotionally, therefore beauty pageants should be prohibited around the world to help
end the constant discrimination and unreal expectations of women and young girls.

Edward Hopper Painted The Night Hawks
In 1942, American artist Edward Hopper painted The Night Hawks. This oil painting, is a 33 1/8th in.
x 60 in. piece. Hopper used oil paint on canvas, to create this piece. Currently this piece is located at
the Art Institute of Chicago. In The Night Hawks, a city diner is depicted sometime at night. The
buildings and diner design, are consistent with a city setting. Within the diner, there are 4 people
present. Three of these people appear to be customers, while the other is working at the diner. There
are three men present in the picture, and one woman. Due to the clothes they are wearing, we know
that this diner is set sometime before 1960. After looking at the painting, I believe that this is either an
exact depiction of a real life diner, or the painting was inspired by a real life diner. Within this
painting, there are many different elements of design that Hopper uses to create this scene. The first
element of design within this painting is, the use of light and shadows. Hopper uses light and shadows,
to create the visual of nighttime within the painting. Within the restaurant, very bright colors are used
to create the walls. Using light colors in this way, makes it appear as if the walls of the diner are
reflecting light. In addition, the countertop within the diner appears to be glossy, and has reflections in
it. This effect also aids in making the illusion of light within the diner. Outside of the dinner, light can
be seen on the buildings across the street. This

The Effects of Bad Parenting in As I Lay Dying by William...
How does a child feel when their parents conceive destructive values and manipulative connotations?
To any child a parent is the person that they look up to and in most cases look for encouragement.
However, some parents tend to value destruction and their own self gain more than the life of their
child. Both William Faulkner s As I Lay Dying and Toni Morrison s The Bluest Eye demonstrating a
principle that when parents are bound to their twisted, manipulative, and even immoral values that
their children will ultimately be the ones to pay the price as they either embrace the similar hollow
values themselves or set out to fulfill their own desires through often times self destructive means. In

Resource Leveling Issue Analysis Paper
When a project manager identifies that resources must be leveled within certain areas of the project he
or she should utilize resource leveling approaches. Resource leveling examines the unequal utilization
of resources and makes them equally available through the project. One of the risks associated with
resource leveling is the decrease in productivity as a result of resources shifting from one task or area
to another. In the case of the resources in question being people, teams from where these employees
will be coming from to support the other task might feel additional workloads which in turn could lead
to unhappiness in team members, and can result in decreased productivity (Damci, Arditi Polat, 2013,
p 679). Resource leveling becomes a double edge sword for the project manager. It could create the
same issue that is trying to solve if not carefully analyzed by the project manager before commencing

This method includes stressing core classes such as reading, mathematics, science, social studies, and

as strong role models within essentialism. Having a positive role model is an essential portion of a
child s education and I will work diligently to provide this experience for my students.
The third philosophy that I plan to utilize is social reconstructionism. Social reconstructionism was
praised by many of the great educators in history such as: Plato, Augustine, Karl Marx, John Dewey,
and many more. This particular philosophy encourages the educators to teach students to focus on
finding solutions for the social issues that are a part of our society. Society is plagued with many
social problems. Education is essential for future generations. As an educator, it is my responsibility to
ensure my student s possess strong problem solving skills. These skills will be beneficial to the
students during the education process as well as in their roles within society.
Finally, I have chosen progressivism. This method was developed by John Dewey, Ella Young, and
Francis Parker. Progressivism is a very interactive form of education. Children are exposed to real
world experiences and encouraged to develop questions and find answers or solutions for these
experiences. I believe that

Differential diagnoses important to consider are appendicitis and irritable bowel syndrome.
Appendicitis is an acute inflammation of the appendix and is often missed by clinicians (Cox Sovak,
2015). In this case, appendicitis is unlikely as the patient does not display signs and symptoms
indicative of appendicitis. During the physical exam the McBurney s point, Rovsing s sign, Obturator,
and Psoas all yielded negative results. Also, E.L. is complaining of pain to the hypogastric area and
denies pain specifically located in the right lower quadrant or rebound tenderness. These findings do
not support a diagnosis of appendicitis. Irritable bowel syndrome (IBS) is a motility disorder of the
gastrointestinal tract causing intermittent nausea, abdominal pain relieved by defecation, abdominal
distension, flatulence, and diarrhea (Goolsby Grubbs, 2015). Although E.L. has several of these
symptoms, a diagnosis of IBS is unlikely for many reasons. The patient s symptoms are attributed to
contact with an infectious person indicating an acute illness. This makes IBS less likely because, IBS
is characterized as a reoccurring illnesses with relapses. IBS is also unlikely since the symptoms are
often triggered by meals and in this case the patient attributes symptoms to being in close contact with
individuals displaying the same symptoms. Also, the patient denies eating

Banning Capital Punishment in the United States Essay
Banning the use of capital punishment in the United States
Capital punishment (the death penalty) is a legal procedure which is known as the most severe
punishment where the law authorizes execution as a punishment for criminals (Gerald, 2008). Many
people claim that allowing such a punishment will help decrease the crime rate, and also give closure
to the victim s family, but if you as American citizens analyze this situation in more detail you can see
that taking a life for taking a life is more of a personal matter than justice. When comparing the states
that allow capital punishment with the states that have abolished it, the crime rate does not differ.
Hence, those who argue that death row has a positive effect on making criminals ... Show more

2008 murder rate in death penalty states was 41% higher than the non death penalty states, 2009 the
murder rate was 35% higher than the non death penalty states (Cooper, 2011). As you can see capital
punishment had no influence on preventing criminals from doing illegal acts. Therefore, all of the
work and energy that goes into executing a criminal in the name of justice is illogical and ineffective.
It is argued that most people who support capital punishment are the families of the victims. In their
eyes execution is revenge, but how can you trust a system that is not always correct? Would taking a
life of another stop criminals and lower the crime rate, or would it bring the victims back to life? In
most cases the answer is no. Moreover, it appears that the legal system is not always accurate, and that
innocent people have been executed and convicted. Over 142 men and women have been discharged
from the death row over the past 40 years. Also in the past four years evidence has come up that some
men have been mistakenly executed for crimes they did not commit. (Love, 2013) After learning about
these mistakes that the law has made and continues to make, it is petrifying to know that the majority
of people are blinded by sorrow and justice, that they exclude the truth and facts from their
knowledge. If they were to take into consideration its inaccuracy shown many times over, they would
agree on suspending the use of the death penalty as a punishment for

This company has been providing a great example for all companies to follow in order to be

put his ideas into motion by creating a blend of fabrics that worked best for the comfort of athletes as
this was his main goal. Plank named his company Under Armour and based it upon one shirt that he
advertised as a tight fitting, moisture wicking t shirt that supports your muscles and regulates your

Atticus Finch Thoughtless Crowd
In a society where everyone is competing with each other, you would assume someone with good
intentions and logical views is more powerful than a crowd of thoughtless people. In To Kill a
Mockingbird by Harper Lee, this hypothesis was put to the test when Atticus Finch, a logical,
unbiased lawyer, was given the task of testifying for an alleged rape case to a young girl named
Mayella Ewell that was committed by a hard working black man named Tom Robinson. As a novel set
in the early 1930s, most people in Maycomb County, a district in Alabama, were prejudiced towards
black people. Even worse, seemingly all of the people on the jury were prejudiced, a thoughtless
crowd . While the logical person should be more powerful, this is unfortunately not the case because
logic cannot change the views of thoughtless people, those with an unclear conscience have prejudices
that can overpower, and quantity overrules quality.
During Tom Robinson s trial, Atticus presents the jury with clear and logical evidence that clearly
shows that Tom Robinson could not have raped Mayella. The first major claim ... Show more content

Raimond also justifies his mother s affair with Mitru when he describes his mother as a troubled girl
from central Europe who could not settle in the dilapidated landscape that heightened her isolation .
The complexity of the bond is developed through Anna s first attempt at suicide, which is more of a
desperate cry for help; In words that were barely comprehensible she said that she loved me and
wanted to say goodbye, that she would fall asleep and then die . This vivid memory of his mother
saying goodbye leads to a very complex bond between the pair. Perhaps the most intense memory of
his mother that Gaita has is the memory of his mother returning from hospital after this suicide
attempt, alone, small, frail, walking with an uncertain gait and a distracted air. In the vast landscape
with only crude wire fences and a rough track to mark an human impression on it she appeared
forsaken. She looked at me as though she had returned from the dead, unsure about the value of her
achievement . The memory is bittersweet, although she is alive after a failed suicide attempt; she
conveys a vivid impression of someone who does not belong in the place they are in and does not
seem to belong in that life. Raymond s memories of experiences at Frogmore, especially experiences
with regards to his mother, has shaped and built his connection with Frogmore allowing him to

The Portrayal Of Women Of Contemporary Rap Videos
The aim of this study is examine the portrayal of women in contemporary rap videos, and to see if it
could be potentially harmful. Unfortunately within the music industry like many industries sex sells,
and the media has brought to light this fixation. Hip hop has persuaded a large portion of society that
this is how women should be treated, but new times call for new measures and it is time that people
realise this and give women the respect and dignity that many believe they surly deserve. In the rap
world, women are a status of success, and they are treated almost as trophies: a way for rappers to
show that they have made it to the top of their game. It is not that rappers feel that women are inferior,
but they feel treating women like a collector s item is how they should go about flaunting their new
found success. Rappers always try to have the best looking girls in their videos, which make other
people, predominantly young men, think how they are living the high life, being able to get the best
looking girls, girls they could only dream of getting. The intent of this façade is to simply make
money, but rappers do not realise how much of an impact their music is having on the younger
generations. When the younger generation watch television and see artists throw money in the air,
with expensive cars and women, that image is stored in their minds as the definition of success. They

facts about Warsaw, Poland, which many people may not know when they first go to visit this city but
I do find important for people to learn the history so they can really appreciate the city once they
arrive. Warsaw, known for its incredible history, with its first settlement in the 11th century but the
city was founded in 1300 and came under the Polish rule in 1526. It became the capital of Poland in
1596, taking over Krakow. The city of Warsaw during the World War II was almost completely
destroyed losing approximately 17% of its population and between 17th 18th century was
reconstructed with mainly old architectural style. When the Nazi occupied this city, around 350,000

Analysis of Home in the Grapes of Wrath
You can leave home all you want, but home will never leave you. Sonsyrea Tate. Tate s quote has
distinct meaning depending on the individual who analyzes it. Many believe this quote to mean that a
home is not a single place or object, but a concept or state of mind, which you have when you are
around your family or loved ones. In the book The Grapes of Wrath by John Steinbeck this idea of
home is where the heart is, is shown throughout the book. One of the main characters, Ma, shows with
great strength the concept of home is not a dwelling or place where you live, but a state of mind. Ma,
throughout the course of the book understood that a home is not a place, but where you are with your
family. During the course of the book Ma takes ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
She was also upset about the family breaking apart when Noah, and Connie left on their own. She
believed a family must stay together even in tough times. She did not care where they would live, as
long as wherever they were the family would remain together, because she understood the concept of
a home being where your loved ones are. In one of the final chapters of the book Ruthie out of anger
tell about how Tom killed a man. So Ma out of fear goes to meet Tom, there they discus what Tom
should do. Although Ma is worried about Tom and his safety where he goes, Tom makes a speech
about where he would be. One part being An when our folks eat the stuff they raise an live in the
houses they build why, I ll be there. (Steinbeck, 537) Tom makes mention of a house as a single
location; while Ma is not concerned with that, as she is more concerned about Tom s safety saying
how is she going to know if he is hurt or killed. This can be taken as even though her fear of breaking
the family apart, she is worried whether Tom can be safe. Showing how even though a person can
leave a home. They still take part of the home a carry it with them for the rest of their life. Homes are
simply not places or a possession, but the love of the family you surround yourself with. Ma is one of
the only characters in the book that truly realizes this. Some characters, such as Rose of Sharon, are
focused on the possessions in life and only see home as a location.

Descriptive Essay On The Desert
The hot, arid air burned into my soul as I faced the barren desert surrounding me. My family and I
were on a long awaited vacation to the Grand Canyon, yet we had to drive over 15 hours I radiated
impatience throughout the journey. Walls of heat shrouded me as I gasped for air my efforts were
fruitless, however, swallowing nothing but fire. As the fire in my lungs grew, I looked out the window
and into the looming suns heart. Suddenly, my eyes collapsed and tears engulfed them till they took
their true form; a forest blanketed with soft, gleaming snow. However, I was evoked from my reverie
by a vehement cry and I was staring into the eyes of tattered vultures, of every discrepancy, who
recited a prophecy only I could hear. Who dares enter our land! they screeched in a dissonant manner.
Trembling, I gazed at the sun and was standing amidst a perpetual desert the vultures eyes glued to
me. I froze with fear, though the sun baked my skin. A meal for today, the vultures rasped
flamboyantly, cooked to a crisp! Uh, I sighed, I couldn t wait 10 minutes to save me from you
repulsive demons! I woke up like a corpse rises from the grave, my red eyes flooded with tears. The
cool air lulled my throat; dissipating the faint memory of a raging fire and loathsome vultures
scavenging my flesh. As the tears coated my face, I sat up until a symphony of cracks sang from my
spine. Despite the agonizing pain, I turned around and the world revealed itself as a contemporary

John Locke s Statement On The Walkabout By John Locke
After John Locke was denied admission on the walkabout because of his paraplegic state; he was put
on a flight back home from Sydney, Australia to California, US. John was absoultly devasted as he
planned this walkabout for months only to be sent back home. While about halfway to the US the
plane went off course and the pilot was forced to crash into a strange island where John found himself
on the floor of the beach with panic from the other survivors. He looked at his foot and to his
amazement he was able to move his half paralyzed body. This experience that John lead him to believe
that his purpose in his life was here on the island and although he did not understand what it was yet,
he never lost his faith, Courage, and determination. Through his time on this island we are able to

the other survivors on the island and together they find a hatch burried in the ground. John believes
that his purpose is to open that hatch even though he has no clue whats inside. The hatch seemed
dangerous but John s faith guides him so he is never afraid of the unknown. Even after John started to
lose feeling in his lower body making him think the island is taking away the gift it gave him, he
continued to search for his purpose by attempting to open the hatch and didnt doubt that the island will

The Trouble With Idol Meat 1 Corinthian Analysis
Paul instructs the Corinthians in several aspects and teaches them how to live their lives as Christians.
The Corinthian church has several serious problems that they either ignore or simply think their sin is
ok. Paul holds them accountable in all that they are doing and reprimands them. He illustrates that he
will either come to them with a gentle spirit or the rod of discipline. One of the topics discussed is idol
meat. But what s especially interesting is that the Corinthians brought it up first rather than Paul. The
Corinthians thought it was a serious issue and were genuinely troubled by what the right course of
action was. The article I chose to discuss is The Trouble with Idol Meat: 1 Corinthians 8:1 13, by
Mike Graves. This article ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The hermeneutical move can be described as a direct bridge connecting two different time periods. It s
one single move that makes the connection between ancient text and 2017. This is actually a very
daunting task to accomplish for leaders in the church when they are doing so many different activities
throughout the week that is also expected of them. If you are going to bridge the gap between ancient
text and today with an honest effort Graves brings up the point that it might be better not to achieve
the gap all at once. That is a lot of information to handle right away, and if you want to understand all
the details it might be better to take one little step at a time. Nancy Lammers suggests that preachers
are more like gymnasts on a high bar, swinging back and forth between text and today throughout the
week. The preacher studies the ancient text, all the while mindful of what is going on in the
community and the larger world, all the while engaging in ancient text; back and forth our thoughts
race throughout the week. (Graves, pg 644) It might be better to fully understand the text if you study
it in smaller increments and relate it to today also in smaller increments. Graves is effective in
illustrating this point by arguing with common sense. Studying scripture in smaller sections and
relating that to our world might be more effective than trying to do it all at

Case Study Of Zara Supply Chain
The supply chain is the network created amongst different companies producing, handling and/or
distributing a specific product. Specifically, the supply chain encompasses the steps it takes to get a
good or service from the supplier to the customer {1}. Supply chain management is a crucial process
for many companies, and many companies strive to have the most optimized supply chain because it
usually translates to lower costs for the company and in Zara s case a highly competitive and
profitable system. Here we are going to discuss Zara s supply chain or network. Design the starting
point is a collaborative phase where teams of creative professionals carry out the design process and
store managers who act as trend spotters and report everyday to headquarters. When it comes to
materials Zara s supply chain is unique where they make 40 percent of their own fabrics. As for
cutting they produce more than half of its own clothes and even things that are farmed out are done
locally to maximize time efficiency. Zara cuts fabric in house and then sends the cut designs to one of
several hundred local ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
That been said, Zara incurs a higher cost on materials and labor by not outsourcing to the cheapest
source globally. Spain being in Europe makes it a lot more expensive especially with labor laws and
minimum wage and that also increases the cost of materials where we know Zara make 40 percent of
their own fabric and the rest probably are purchased on a local rather than a global basis. The cost is
offset by the cost savings of not having items shipped all over the world. It is also offset by faster
response time between each stage and the closer proximity for distributing or shipping in the Spanish
markets and Europe. Zara s competitive advantage is speed fast fashion which is alot more important
than the minimal amount that Zara could save by sourcing

Plea Bargaining In Criminal Justice
I did not watch the film, Criminal Justice: Nothing Cuts Deeper, but I thought you both brought up
interesting points about plea bargaining in your analyses. I did not realize that plea bargains were as
common as they are until Crystal pointed out that in 1989, less than 2% took their cases to trial. That
is a shockingly low number! Abraham also pointed out that this means that defendants are waiving
important rights, protected by the Fifth and Sixth Amendments: the right to a jury trial, the right
against self incrimination, and the right to confront hostile witnesses. As far as I understand, the
foundations of the American criminal justice process are built around these essential rights! In reality,
very few people have faith in and are ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
So the trial is meant to achieve either determining guilt and issuing appropriate punishment for the
crime and to prevent innocent people from being punished for a crime that they did not commit.
Stephanos Bibas, a professor of Law and Criminology argues that everyone trusted that trials
remained as safety valves whenever guilt was in real doubt. The vast majority of defendants are
factually and legally guilty, but surely, we assumed, those who are innocent would persist to vindicate
their names at trial. Unfortunately, because of pressures by the prosecution and fears of long, harsh
sentences, poorly informed, poorly educated, and poorly represented defendants are far from the fully
informed, rational actors. (Bibas, 2016). This means that some innocent people are taking a plea
bargain for fear of greater punishment, even if they did not actually commit the crime. They have so
little faith in the process of a trial working correctly that they feel it better to agree to a lesser
punishment despite their innocence. Whether their lack of faith in the trial process is warranted or not,
this signifies that there is something fundamentally wrong with the criminal justice

Coimbatore Essay
Coimbatore My enriching companion.
A human life consists of about 30,000 sunshine days during which time he builds multitudinal
relationships with family, friends, colleagues, acquaintances and strangers. Today I write about an
extraordinary relationship, one I share with a city called Coimbatore. My uncommon choice is not due
to a lack of human interactions but is a result of the breadth of my relationship with the city and the
enriching influence it has had on my life.
A metro city in the south Indian state of Tamil Nadu, Coimbatore is a multi dimensional textile haven.
A young bride, I came to Coimbatore in 1993, ready to embark on an exciting journey that
encompassed a new home, new city and a new individual in my life, my husband.
Our manufacturing unit in Karur was a two hour drive from the city. The strenuous highway commute
meant that Manish was a weekend husband, shuttling between the mill and the city. I struggled ...

Driving further north we arrived at Raja Steet, the silk hub of the city. The narrow market street had
stores on either side, some large showrooms, others singular stalls. Intrigued, I went to Shobha Sarees.
For the wedding, I had visited a number of such showrooms in Mumbai and Kolkatta but the service I
received at Shobha was second to none. The attendants dutifully displayed their wares, meekly
waiting for me to decide. In the 30 minutes I spent there, I discovered that women were treated with
utmost respect in the city. In hindsight, I might even add that they were truly revered.

Color And The Perception Of Color
Color and the Perception of Color
Cynthia Xu
Stoller Middle School
Perception. The ability to see, hear, or become aware of something through one of the five senses
(Kandel, Schwartz, Jessell, 2000). In other words, it is the process of interpreting and organizing
sensory information. Perception must be understood according to figure ground, similarity, proximity,
continuity, and other organizing principles. At work in the interpretation of sensory stimuli are other
perceptual phenomena such as perceptual constancy, a phenomenon which occurs in the perception of
size, shape, color, and brightness; depth perception, another phenomenon based on binocular and
monocular cues; and the perception of motion (Wood, 2008). One of the brain s primary functions is
to obtain biologically important information from the various sensory inputs. The brain of a human is
provided with sufficient information about a variety of things such as light, sound, the atmosphere s
chemical composition, temperature, and things such as head orientation, limb position, the chemical
composition of the bloodstream, among other things. Specialized sensors project signals into the brain
when they detect sensory modalities. Light sensitive neurons in the retina of the eye, vibration
sensitive neurons in the cochlea of the ear, along with the pressure sensitive neurons in the skin are all
specialized receptor cells of which each sensory system begins with. The axons of the sensory receptor

the data mining process. More recent research on data mining and knowledge discovery w20,26,27x
has further enhanced our understanding of the application of data mining and the knowledge discovery
process. But, most research has focused on the theoretical and computational process of pattern
discovery and a narrow set of applications such as fraud detection or risk prediction. Given the
important role played by marketing decisions in the current customer centric environment, there is a
need for a simple and integrated framework for a systematic management of customer knowledge.
But, there is a surprising lack of a simple and overall framework to link the extraction of customer
knowledge with the management and application of the knowledge, particularly in the context of
marketing decisions. While data mining studies have focused on the techniques, customer relationship
studies have focused on the interface to the customer and the strategies to manage customer
interactions. True customer relationship management is possible only by integrating the knowledge
discovery process with the management and use of the knowledge for marketing strategies. This will
help marketers address customer needs based on what the marketers know about

he would be happy together. However, Phyllis true intention was to receive the double indemnity of

The Ethical Dilemma Of Performance Enhancing Drugs
Benchmark Assignment: Ethical Dilemmas
These days it seems as society is constantly being faced with Ethical Dilemmas. Whether it is normal
everyday citizens, actors, business executives, and even athletes. The way that every person deal with
ethical dilemmas is by relying on their worldview. The world of professional sports is a very tough
and competitive place. It is full of top level athletes that are masters in their respective sports and the
struggle that they all face is to be better than everyone else. With all these athletes working hard and
looking for new ways to better themselves, some take the easy way over the right way. In this paper,

Core Beliefs
Some athletes view doping, the use of performance enhancing drugs, as the only way to keep up with
athletic competition (Performance Enhancing Drugs, 2017). With it being such a big issue many
people are curious on how the Christian worldview deals with the topic. The Christian worldview does
not specifically address the ethical dilemma that surrounds performance enhancing drugs. While I
admit that it does not directly talk about PEDs, in Jesus time they had none, there are certain core
beliefs that can be applied to it. Firstly, we need to look at our bodies. People aligned with the
Christian worldview know that because of the fall our bodies were marred from God s beginning
perfect creation of us (The Ethics of Enhancement, 2017). The Bible states how God views our body
saying Or do you not know that your body is the temple of the Holy Spirit who is in you whom you
have from God, and you are not your own? For you were bought at a price; therefore glorify God in
your body and in your spirit, which are God s (NKJV, 1 Corinthians. 6:19 20). If our body is the
temple of the Holy Spirit, then it would not be right to defile our bodies by injecting it with drugs for
performance. It is also trying to change and determine what and how our bodies are rather than how
God created us. There is also the issue of performance enhancing drugs being fair and considered
cheating. King Solomon writes that Better is

Manifest Destiny Thesis
In the early to mid 19th century, Manifest Destiny was one of the most core beliefs in the American
way of life. Manifest Destiny was the belief that it was America s duty to spread across and conquer
the continent, Atlantic to Pacific. However, as America inched west, purchasing and fighting for land,
one recurring problem was brought along with us, the issue of Slavery. From the Constitutional
Convention in 1786, to the Antebellum Period of the mid 1800 s, Slavery was an issue that, in large,
was repeatedly swept under the rug, being left to the next generation to decide. As America gained
new territories, agreements had to be made to keep the balance of Slave States and Free States . Some
politicians had the foresight to see that ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Sumner s strong word choice shows displays very clearly how deep the division in ideals truly is, even
though the nation was still years before the Civil War. Manifest Destiny was unstoppable, and because
of this, the debate over slavery was not going anywhere. Eventually, a final decision would have to be
made. This was said in the Whig journal, American Review, The natural progress of events will
undoubtedly give us that province [California] just as it gave us Texas. While not directly speaking of
the great division in the country, the idea that western expansion could not be stopped, and that
eventually, all the territory would be made into states, meaning that the issue and divisions of slavery
were not going to go away. The Senator and the American Review make a very good argument.
Manifest Destiny is unstoppable, as are the desires of both Slave holding states, and Free holding
states. As American Expands, so will the bitter division between two starkly different ideals about the
future of the American way of

  • 2. Homosexuality In Dracula The sexuality downplayed in the Victorian culture is able to be exploited in Stoker s writing because of the social norm to express sexuality through literature. The cultural (literary and aesthetic) was consumed with images of mystical, deadly and sexually enticing female subjects to exemplify what a fallen woman is (Moore). A painting by E.C. Barnes made in the 1860 s shows the moral downfalls of a woman working in a city. The insinuations of the painting direct the viewer into seeing the darkness and negative connotations of a working woman. There are implications to what may happen to the woman if she lets her guard down. Woman of the Victorian era are able to relate to these paintings and pieces of literature. They are warned of the dangers of displaying sexuality and intelligence. Aside from warning culture of the dangers of immorality, authors and artists are able to give pleasure to the culture through their pieces. Because of the conservative society, being sexually immoral is forbidden. Artists such as Herbert Draper, through historical and mythological representations, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... And again, before we delve into the novel, it is important to establish some historical context of Stoker s own struggle with homosexuality. Stoker is himself, a hidden homosexual. Dracula is written a month after Stoker s longtime partner, Oscar Wilde, is imprisoned for his homosexuality. Watching his friend go through trial must have caused many of the internally conflicting emotions which led Stoker to personally view (and portray) any sexuality as a vile and painful source of evil and despair (Podonsky). Stoker must have felt guilt from what Wilde went through and it must have cultivated a hate towards the homosexuality in himself. Now that we know Stoker s experience with homosexuality, we can see how he places it in such a bad light throughout ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Reducing Barriers to Free Trade Essay Introduction Free trade has long be seen by economists as being essential in promoting effective use of natural resources, employment, reduction of poverty and diversity of products for consumers. But the concept of free trade has had many barriers to over come. Including government practices by developed countries, under public and corporate pressures, to protect domestic firms from cheap foreign products. But as history has shown us time and time again is that protectionist measures imposed by governments has almost always had negative effects on the local and world economies. These protectionist measures also hurt developing countries trying to inter into the international trade markets. With the recent global recession we ... Fair trade provides two key benefits that can help with the current world economic crisis. First it provides sustained benefits for producers that can help maintain their business through fluctuations of the world market (Gidney, M. 2009). Second, fair trade helps to maintain fair prices, additional social premium, and long term partnerships that help provide better living standards for millions of people in over 60 countries (Gidney, M. 2009). Free trade cannot grow without the aid of governments to help promote and sustain it. Governments must support free trade by first modifying current trade policies to remove barriers against free trade. Lastly governments must act and enforce regulations to protect against unfair trade practices. What can Governments do to promote free trade? The basis of free trade is that in a growing economy the comparative advantage shows that resources flow from lower productivity to those with higher productivity (Carbaugh, 2009). Along with increased employment in developing countries and higher standard of living, consumers benefit from more diversity on the market and cheaper prices. One of the baggiest challenges government s faces is the pressure from public and domestic firms to protect the local work force from cheap foreign imports. Governments must find ... • 5. Argumentative Essay On Wicca To understand the great right, you first have to understand that Wicca is a fertility religion. The founder of Wicca Gerald Gardner explains Wicca as a very ancient ritualistic religion based on survival. This rite is more closely based on the ritual of Beltane. During the Beltane rites the high priest or priestess will enact the fertility rite by inserting the athame (which represents the horned god) into the chalice (which represents the mother goddess). This is a form of sympathetic magick where we enact a bigger picture with our own ritual tools. Before i did the research i honestly thought the great rite had Something to do with sex. While it does indeed have to do with sex its much more about fertility. I now know that the great rite has everything to do with praying to the gods through ritual. Praying for fertility to the earth, animals and plants. Author Vivianne Crowley says in Wicca: The Old Religion in the New Age, The outer rite involves a linking of the male and the female; the sacred marriage is outwardly a marriage of two people, but inwardly it is a marriage of the two within one person. The Great Rite is more than just a sexual union; it is the enactment of the creation of the universe itself in the Wiccan tradition. In modern Wicca, many practioners can and will use sex in ritual but this is more often than not used in personal practice. When a man and woman are both practices of the faith and perform rituals together this is an acceptable way to end the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 6. Michigan State Spartans Tournament The Michigan State Spartans always seem to be poised for a deep run in the NCAA Tournament. Ever since Michigan State head coach Tom Izzo s arrival in East Lansing, Mich., the Spartans have appeared in seven Final Fours. In addition to their success in the postseason, the Spartans have had several players find success at the next level. Most recently, Denver Nuggets shooting guard Gary Harris, Minnesota Timberwolves power forward Adreian Payne and All Star power forward and NBA champion Draymond Green. Izzo s sustained success at Michigan State has become so mundane that every one of his seasons seem to get overlooked. In the midst of the Wisconsin Badgers run to the championship game and the Kentucky Wildcats perfect regular season last year, the Spartans managed to finish the regular season with a 27 12 (12 6 in conference) record and a berth in the Final Four. This season, Michigan State is led by senior shooting guard Denzel Valentine, who s a contender for the Player of the Year award. Valentine is college basketball s version of Oklahoma City Thunder point guard Russell Westbrook. • 7. Analysis Of God s Frankenstein Evan Ortiz 4.07.15 Andrew Keese British Literature God Created Adam to Kill His Angels Mary Shelly s Frankenstein is better known than it s been read. Since its publication, it has spawned many other Frankensteins of its own. Arguably this is the most foundational work of horror fiction in modern day literature. The novel has had a cultural impact on: Marvel Comics version of Frankenstein, the multiple movie spinoffs, to a common household brand. Many think they know Frankenstein, in reality the story you may have heard is far from the truth. Mary Shelly s Frankenstein also works as a what not to do in the situation of creator vs. created. Victor Frankenstein turned passion of animation into an immoral balance of immortality, someone who sought out to be a personal God without being the one held responsible. It was Victor s ego, his unnatural aims, and his inability to take responsibility that was to blame for the monsters actions. What ever we think of Victor s pursuits whether noble or ignoble, it is at its fundamentals, humane. He says that he sets about the creation of a human being in the hopes of banishing disease from the human frame and rendering man invulnerable to any but a violent death. While his intentions were noble the actions only had horrible repercussions. Something then happens when Victor s creation comes to life. Victor no longer sees it as a human being, but as a monster. • 8. Persuasive Essay On Belief Belief having an affinity in believing something is true. This single word, vague, and short. As submissive as it is, Belief tends to get on roads that it never means to. The road diverges into two, and a choice has to be made. Manipulation passes, and it takes a hold of Belief. Without any knowledge, he willingly follows. This is the basis of a belief. I love the manipulation angle. Usually I think of belief as such a positive, hopeful word. But you are right... it is equally dangerous. Good. The basis of belief, has been shattered explain a bit. By what? How so? . All the pieces of it have been scattered everywhere. You can t do much with a puzzle piece if you don t know where it goes, so get ready to visualize. Visualize the perfect end point for your belief, whether it s a 5 piece or an 1000 piece puzzle. It always makes sense to start with the corner pieces first, so we are going to do that. Transition a bit more fully here? So what is cognitive bias then? It is what makes our minds believe things, without even giving us a choice. These mechanisms in our head cause us to make usually biased and unfair decision, which is why it s important to be aware of them. Take the idea of bandwagoning of course, the most known bias. • 9. Atticus Finch Courage Research Paper Lucas Tomaselli Honors English I Courage The word courage heroically pervades all aspects of life whether it is in a movie, book, video game, or real world incident. Courage is when someone or something stands up for their beliefs despite any intimidation or danger that may face them in the process. A person of this merit never puts another in harms way in order to protect him or herself. In Harper Lee s To Kill a Mocking Bird, Atticus Finch displays valor more than any of the surrounding characters. His courage was one that reminded me of a brave man who stood up for equality and people of all races during the 1960 s. His name was Martin Luther King Jr. and he had a positive impact on society just as Mr. Finch did. Atticus finch displays ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... both exhibited the noblest type of courage: acting out to support their idea of what was right regardless of the consequences. The men were hated and threatened their fair share, but kept on supporting their ideas. Atticus supports Tom Robinson because he believes that as a man, there is no other option. He feels it is duty to do what her can to save a life and if he does not act than it would be the same as convicting Tom Robinson himself. This case, Tom Robinson s case, is something that goes to the essence of a man s conscience Scout, I couldn t go to church and worship God if I didn t try to help that man. (Lee 145). However, Martin Luther King Jr. protested for a slightly different reason. His goal was to unite the people of a single nation that was driven apart by racism. The two men were both very influential speakers and could use their words to connect to audiences throughout the pathos of their speeches. Another similarity between Atticus and King is that they both stood up against racism regardless of the fact that it put both of them at great risk. Neither man believed in using violence. Martin Luther King Jr. exhibits this through his non violent protests, and Atticus through his words and actions. I wanted you to see what real courage is, instead of getting the idea that courage is a man with a gun in his hand. It s when you know you re licked before you begin but you begin anyway and you see it through no matter what. You rarely win, but sometimes you do. (Lee 149). • 11. Descriptive Essay About Rock One fine, beautiful morning, just as the Sun was rising, Steven hopped out of bed, and went directly to the place he always goes. The Sunset Beach. Everything was great, but then, his day, no, his life took a very unexpected turn. Steven is a twenty five year old man. He had lived with his parents for the majority of his life, but had just moved out within the past year. He has dark brown eyes, and dusty blonde hair. He is about five six, which is a little short for his age, but it doesn t bother him all that much. In his spare time, he likes to participate in many city activities, or turn to one of his hobbies. One hobby that he particularly enjoys is collecting rocks. Every morning when he goes to Sunset Beach, he brings back about a dozen rock friends, just like he did this morning. As Steven was walking, he found a beautiful, shiny, bright green Petoskey Stone. He did not have one in his collection, so he decided to take it home with him. Little did he know that in a few hours , this rock would change his life forever. Legend says, that whoever holds the magical Petoskey Stone takes a very unexpected trip everyday at noon. This trip starts their life everyday, and then one day ends it in a heartbeat. This rock fast forwards through the life of the person that has possession of it, and continues to until one day it thinks they have lived long enough, and they die. The scary part is, they never know which day they will be gone forever. Eventually, Steven arrived ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 12. The Revolutionary Scheme Of The Texas The Texas revolution has fascinated Americans for more than a century now, from the epic martyrs of the Alamo to the unexpected victory of San Jacinto. Lost in all the glory and pain are some forgotten actors like the New Orleans Greys volunteers or the land speculators. Indeed, the Crescent City always seems to be left out of classical interpretation of the revolutionary scheme of the Texas. What was the role of New Orleans? By looking at newspapers published between 1836 and 1839, the city implication would be put into perspective, using Texan battles description, drafting lists and land sales ads, to provide insight on the military implications and commercial ties. The recruitment in New Orleans could be dated back to the beginning of the conflict in 1835. Indeed, in October of that year, the first volunteers were drafted during a meeting at the Bank s Arcade building. A lot of the young men in the attendance were to enroll themselves on that night and the New Orleans Greys volunteers regiment was founded. Their involvement into the Texas revolution would be essential and decisive but, strangely, forgotten by many. At the time, the Mexican government openly accused the American government of not doing enough to stop the flow of armed volunteers, who crossed the border to join the Rebels. In fact, while the United States didn t implicitly supported the revolution, their duplicity and unwillingness to fix the problem indirectly helped the war effort. During the month of October 1835, the newly formed New Orleans Grey regiment took the road to Nacogdoches, entered Texas by the Sabine river and reached San Antonio de Bexar(San Antonio) by December. It represented a turning point in the young revolution, because the troops waiting for them had besieged the city since October, unable to defeat the Mexican garrison. My immediate response consisted of text books, school, and multiple hours of studying. However, after reading a few articles covering different viewpoints on intellectualism, I had a change of thought. Intellectualism within schools, and society today falls under one category: the book smarts. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This way of teaching may seem like the easiest, most efficient route, but it is not necessarily the most practical. Based on Gerald Graff s personal experiences, he has come to the conclusion that schools and colleges are missing an opportunity when they do not encourage students to take their nonacademic interests as objects of academic study, (Graff 270). In other words, schools should start to focus on more extracurricular activities and sports, and transferring that passion into more scholarly subjects. Coming from a professor at the University of Chicago, who initially claimed himself to be an anti intellect, this statement shows the true significance of non educational activities and how they are equally valuable to other things considered more intellectual. Likewise, many blue collared job individuals are looked down upon by the eyes of society, due to not valuing non academic work. Blue collar jobs typically are jobs that consist of any manual labor, these jobs include: Plumbers, servers, electricians, etc. These jobs tend to be viewed as low class, and unintelligent. On the other hand, jobs that are not blue collar jobs such as white collar jobs, tend to be more professional and higher class. This misconception is a problem with society, and is touched upon in Rose s article. Mike Rose s mother, and uncle both work blue collar jobs, inspiring his dis agreeance in the idea that Intelligence is closely associated with formal education the type of schooling a person has...and most people seem to move comfortably from that notion to a belief that work requiring less schooling requires less intelligence, (Rose 276). The first swimsuit competition was held in 1880 at a festival to bring business however, it soon became a summer tradition . Women from all around the world became interested in them, wanting to be seen as the perfect woman. Currently, there are 3 different types of beauty pageants, a glitz pageant consists of the contestants wearing heavy makeup, crystal decorated clothes and wearing slip on veneers. Another type of pageant is named a semi glitz pageant which is very similar to the glitz pageant , except contestants are not allowed to wear any hair pieces or slip on veneers. The third type of pageant is referred to as the natural pageant , contestants are permitted to wear natural makeup and will be disqualified if any hair piece or slip on veneers are worn. Each of these different pageants are taken very seriously by its contestants with the goal in mind of winning the crown. Many contestants will often make drastic or permanent changes, forced by their guardian or parent(s) if they think they have a better chance of winning. The buildings and diner design, are consistent with a city setting. Within the diner, there are 4 people present. Three of these people appear to be customers, while the other is working at the diner. There are three men present in the picture, and one woman. Due to the clothes they are wearing, we know that this diner is set sometime before 1960. After looking at the painting, I believe that this is either an exact depiction of a real life diner, or the painting was inspired by a real life diner. Within this painting, there are many different elements of design that Hopper uses to create this scene. The first element of design within this painting is, the use of light and shadows. Hopper uses light and shadows, to create the visual of nighttime within the painting. Within the restaurant, very bright colors are used to create the walls. Using light colors in this way, makes it appear as if the walls of the diner are reflecting light. In addition, the countertop within the diner appears to be glossy, and has reflections in it. This effect also aids in making the illusion of light within the diner. Outside of the dinner, light can be seen on the buildings across the street. This ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

In the case of the resources in question being people, teams from where these employees will be coming from to support the other task might feel additional workloads which in turn could lead to unhappiness in team members, and can result in decreased productivity (Damci, Arditi Polat, 2013, p 679). Although E.L. has several of these symptoms, a diagnosis of IBS is unlikely for many reasons. The patient s symptoms are attributed to contact with an infectious person indicating an acute illness. This makes IBS less likely because, IBS is characterized as a reoccurring illnesses with relapses. IBS is also unlikely since the symptoms are often triggered by meals and in this case the patient attributes symptoms to being in close contact with individuals displaying the same symptoms. • 28. Banning Capital Punishment in the United States Essay Banning the use of capital punishment in the United States Capital punishment (the death penalty) is a legal procedure which is known as the most severe punishment where the law authorizes execution as a punishment for criminals (Gerald, 2008). Many people claim that allowing such a punishment will help decrease the crime rate, and also give closure to the victim s family, but if you as American citizens analyze this situation in more detail you can see that taking a life for taking a life is more of a personal matter than justice. When comparing the states that allow capital punishment with the states that have abolished it, the crime rate does not differ. Hence, those who argue that death row has a positive effect on making criminals ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... 2008 murder rate in death penalty states was 41% higher than the non death penalty states, 2009 the murder rate was 35% higher than the non death penalty states (Cooper, 2011). As you can see capital punishment had no influence on preventing criminals from doing illegal acts. Therefore, all of the work and energy that goes into executing a criminal in the name of justice is illogical and ineffective. It is argued that most people who support capital punishment are the families of the victims. In their eyes execution is revenge, but how can you trust a system that is not always correct? Would taking a life of another stop criminals and lower the crime rate, or would it bring the victims back to life? In most cases the answer is no. Moreover, it appears that the legal system is not always accurate, and that innocent people have been executed and convicted. Over 142 men and women have been discharged from the death row over the past 40 years. Also in the past four years evidence has come up that some men have been mistakenly executed for crimes they did not commit. (Love, 2013) After learning about these mistakes that the law has made and continues to make, it is petrifying to know that the majority of people are blinded by sorrow and justice, that they exclude the truth and facts from their knowledge. If they were to take into consideration its inaccuracy shown many times over, they would agree on suspending the use of the death penalty as a punishment for ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

This company has been providing a great example for all companies to follow in order to be successful and attract investors. There are several solid reasons why Under Armour is able to attest to such a statement. Investors and consumers should invest in the Under Armour Company over the competition because its success is a result of serving as a great economic and social model for businesses everywhere. Under Armour is a widely known and financially successful corporation in today s athletic apparel and performance industry; however nineteen years ago it all began with one man s vivid idea. Kevin Plank, a young aspiring athlete and special team s captain for the University of Maryland football team, was the first in 1996 to formulize an idea with purpose to provide athletes with a shirt to fit their workout and game needs. As any athlete knows cotton is not the best choice for vigorous activity since this fabric does not dry quickly. This notion is what catapulted Plank s idea. He put his ideas into motion by creating a blend of fabrics that worked best for the comfort of athletes as this was his main goal. Atticus Finch Thoughtless Crowd In a society where everyone is competing with each other, you would assume someone with good intentions and logical views is more powerful than a crowd of thoughtless people. In To Kill a Mockingbird by Harper Lee, this hypothesis was put to the test when Atticus Finch, a logical, unbiased lawyer, was given the task of testifying for an alleged rape case to a young girl named Mayella Ewell that was committed by a hard working black man named Tom Robinson. As a novel set in the early 1930s, most people in Maycomb County, a district in Alabama, were prejudiced towards black people. Even worse, seemingly all of the people on the jury were prejudiced, a thoughtless crowd . While the logical person should be more powerful, this is unfortunately not the case because logic cannot change the views of thoughtless people, those with an unclear conscience have prejudices that can overpower, and quantity overrules quality. During Tom Robinson s trial, Atticus presents the jury with clear and logical evidence that clearly shows that Tom Robinson could not have raped Mayella. The first major claim ... Unfortunately within the music industry like many industries sex sells, and the media has brought to light this fixation. Hip hop has persuaded a large portion of society that this is how women should be treated, but new times call for new measures and it is time that people realise this and give women the respect and dignity that many believe they surly deserve. In the rap world, women are a status of success, and they are treated almost as trophies: a way for rappers to show that they have made it to the top of their game. It is not that rappers feel that women are inferior, but they feel treating women like a collector s item is how they should go about flaunting their new found success. Rappers always try to have the best looking girls in their videos, which make other people, predominantly young men, think how they are living the high life, being able to get the best looking girls, girls they could only dream of getting. The intent of this façade is to simply make money, but rappers do not realise how much of an impact their music is having on the younger generations. If you are going to bridge the gap between ancient text and today with an honest effort Graves brings up the point that it might be better not to achieve the gap all at once. The preacher studies the ancient text, all the while mindful of what is going on in the community and the larger world, all the while engaging in ancient text; back and forth our thoughts race throughout the week. The vast majority of defendants are factually and legally guilty, but surely, we assumed, those who are innocent would persist to vindicate their names at trial. The ability to see, hear, or become aware of something through one of the five senses (Kandel, Schwartz, Jessell, 2000). In other words, it is the process of interpreting and organizing sensory information. Perception must be understood according to figure ground, similarity, proximity, continuity, and other organizing principles. At work in the interpretation of sensory stimuli are other perceptual phenomena such as perceptual constancy, a phenomenon which occurs in the perception of size, shape, color, and brightness; depth perception, another phenomenon based on binocular and monocular cues; and the perception of motion (Wood, 2008). One of the brain s primary functions is to obtain biologically important information from the various sensory inputs. The brain of a human is provided with sufficient information about a variety of things such as light, sound, the atmosphere s chemical composition, temperature, and things such as head orientation, limb position, the chemical composition of the bloodstream, among other things. More recent research on data mining and knowledge discovery w20,26,27x has further enhanced our understanding of the application of data mining and the knowledge discovery process. But, most research has focused on the theoretical and computational process of pattern discovery and a narrow set of applications such as fraud detection or risk prediction. Given the important role played by marketing decisions in the current customer centric environment, there is a need for a simple and integrated framework for a systematic management of customer knowledge. But, there is a surprising lack of a simple and overall framework to link the extraction of customer knowledge with the management and application of the knowledge, particularly in the context of marketing decisions. Whether it is normal everyday citizens, actors, business executives, and even athletes. The way that every person deal with ethical dilemmas is by relying on their worldview. With it being such a big issue many people are curious on how the Christian worldview deals with the topic. The Christian worldview does not specifically address the ethical dilemma that surrounds performance enhancing drugs. While I admit that it does not directly talk about PEDs, in Jesus time they had none, there are certain core beliefs that can be applied to it. Firstly, we need to look at our bodies. People aligned with the Christian worldview know that because of the fall our bodies were marred from God s beginning perfect creation of us (The Ethics of Enhancement, 2017). The Bible states how God views our body saying Or do you not know that your body is the temple of the Holy Spirit who is in you whom you have from God, and you are not your own? For you were bought at a price; therefore glorify God in your body and in your spirit, which are God s (NKJV, 1 Corinthians. 6:19 20). Manifest Destiny was the belief that it was America s duty to spread across and conquer the continent, Atlantic to Pacific. However, as America inched west, purchasing and fighting for land, one recurring problem was brought along with us, the issue of Slavery. From the Constitutional Convention in 1786, to the Antebellum Period of the mid 1800 s, Slavery was an issue that, in large, was repeatedly swept under the rug, being left to the next generation to decide. As America gained new territories, agreements had to be made to keep the balance of Slave States and Free States . Some politicians had the foresight to see that ... Manifest Destiny was unstoppable, and because of this, the debate over slavery was not going anywhere. Eventually, a final decision would have to be made. This was said in the Whig journal, American Review, The natural progress of events will undoubtedly give us that province [California] just as it gave us Texas. While not directly speaking of the great division in the country, the idea that western expansion could not be stopped, and that eventually, all the territory would be made into states, meaning that the issue and divisions of slavery were not going to go away. The Senator and the American Review make a very good argument. Manifest Destiny is unstoppable, as are the desires of both Slave holding states, and Free holding states.
