Introduction
Ergonomics, also known as the study of the design of work in relation to the physiological and
psychological capabilities of people, plays a large part in preventing musculoskeletal disorders

Percentage Formula
Is used to determine the percentage of the respondents based on their answers. The frequency also
presented the actual response of the respondents to a specific question or item in the questionnaire.
The formula used was:
Percentage formula (%) = (F/N) x 100
Where:
% = Percentage Formula N = No. of Respondents
F = Frequency
2. Weighted mean
The researchers used the weighted mean to assess the level of physical discomfort of the sewing
operator experienced. The formula for weighted mean was:
Xw = ∑fx / N
Where:
Xw = weighted mean
∑fx = the sum of all the products of f and x
N = total number of respondents
3. Pearson Chi Square
A Chi square is designed to analyze categorical data. That means that the data has been counted and
divided into categories. It will work with parametric or continuous data. For Example, if you want to
test whether attending class influences how students perform on an exam, using test scores from (0
100) as data would not be appropriate for a Chi square test. However, arranging students into the
categories Pass and Fail would. Additionally, the data in a Chi square grid should not be in the form of
percentages, or anything other than frequency (Count)

Hannukah
There are many holidays, secular and religious to chose from. Before deciding on your favorite one,
you have to think about what makes a good holiday. First, a good holiday has tradition. Remembering
past holidays and stories about how the holiday originated make a holiday memorable. A good holiday
also has to have lots of fun. Having fun during a holiday makes it a great break from regular life. The
last aspect that makes a holiday great is soothing the problems of daily life with family time. Enjoying
what you love with those you love is a great feeling. Based on this criteria, I feel the best holiday is
the Jewish holiday of Hannukah. One of the best parts of a holiday can be the tradition and stories
around it. Hannukah is the celebration

Research Paper On Amazon Rainforest

The Amazon Rainforest Covering more than forty percent of South America is the Amazon Rainforest.
It s known for being the largest rainforest on the planet. Most of the jungle lies in Brazil. The Amazon
Rainforest also holds the Amazon River. According to the National Science Foundation, the amazon
river is the longest river in the world by volume and contains twenty percent of the Earths freshwater.
But the Nile River is the longest when calculating width. Being as big a it is, the amazon holds a
massive number of dfferent types of species of wildlife with different kinds of sub ecosystems to
provide for them. When I think of the Amazon I first think of the terrestrial ecosystems. These are the
land based eviroments. I m going to take the first part of this project to talk about the terrestrial
ecosystem in the amazon and all the wildlife that it holds. According to WorldAtlas there are 427 types
of mammals, 1,300 types of birds, 378 types of reptiles, more than 400 kinds of amphibians, over
80,000 types of plants and trees, and estimation of over 2 million differnt types of insects.
Unfortunatley I cannot go over ever single one of these unique species so I will talk about the more
popular species that benefit the jungle. The rainforest is divided in four layers: forest floor, understory,
canopy and emergent. The canopy is the most heavy populated with plant life, with trees towering up
to 200 feet

Pathogens And Bio Toxins
(1) Define Biological Weapons, how they work, and implications. A biological attack is the
...intentional release of a pathogen or bio toxin....against humans plants or animals... (Forest Howard,
2013, p. 113). These pathogens and bio toxins intentionally released are also known as bioweapons
because they can cause economic catastrophe, illness, deaths, fear, and even disruption to normal day
practices. There are three different categories of pathogens and bio toxins dependent on the level of
threat they present. Category A includes the pathogens and bio toxins that have the greatest threat. As
stated in, they are ...easily disseminated and contagious, high mortality rates, may disrupt society,
[and] requires special action for public health ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Detecting the threat can be a challenge in itself. Some pathogens and bio toxins don t show symptoms
until later down the route; even then, there has to be a pattern of some sorts to be even recognized as a
problem and not an isolated case. Depending on if the pathogen or bio toxin was aimed at humans or
plants or animals, consequences can differ. An attack on agriculture could possibly be devastating on
economics and food supply. Attacking animals could have the same consequences. Humans on the
other hand are exposed to an entirely different consequence, long term health consequences. As stated,
to those exposed to a biological attack and survive, the long term health consequences are unknown

Case Study Of Police Law
Monday, October 02, 2017 at 14:42, city units were dispatched to assist the Washington State
Department of Corrections (DOC), DOC1 at the Jefferson County Fair Grounds, space #16. Officer
Isett was out with two subjects, a male and female for violations of status. He was requesting city unit
to assist with the male. Officer Perry and myself arrived on scene and found Officer Isett out with
Kellen Grewell and Annie Tracy. Tracy was in custody and in wrist restraints. Grewell was standing
by the motorhome that they both are currently living in. The motor home (WA 611XAR), is listed as
Tracy s address with DOC (where ever it is parked). Officer Isett advised me he had information from

Officer Isett seized the pan and observed that there were dried mushrooms in a plastic baggy in the
pan along with some smoking pipes. The mushrooms appeared to be Psilocybin type mushrooms
(commonly called magic mushrooms, or shrooms). DOC is authorized to search a residence, which a
supervised subject is living in, and Tracy is a WA DOC supervised subject. Grewell is being
supervised by Jefferson County District Court. I took Grewell into custody on probable cause from
Officer Isett, for possession of controlled substance (Psilocybin). I placed him in wrist restraints and
locked them for safety and for comfort. I searched Grewell incident to arrest and did not find any
contraband or weapons on his person. I read Grewell his Miranda warning and he said he understood
his rights and would talk to me. He admitted to me he had the mushrooms in his possession and he
was trying to hide them when he was discovered by Officer Isett. At the station I conducted a NARCO

booked the mushrooms (weighing 9.2 g in the plastic bag) into evidence, as evidence, marked NSH 1
in locker E 2, along with NSH 2, a bag full of drug paraphernalia unrelated to the mushrooms. The
drug paraphernalia was marked for destruction.

Education In Vietnam Education
Education plays a key role in human life and it has always been a controversial topic. Throughout the
years, the system has gotten better, country that have an effective system are some of the most
powerful forces. However, some countries in the world are still using the outdated education system,
especially Vietnam. Students are under pressure from friends and family to study, there is a lack of
development in the curriculum and school tends to focus about score and not teaching soft, practical
skill for students. Government corruption also causes a huge impact on this problem. This drawback
limits school capability of creating genius.
Vietnam has had a long history of being dominated by other countries and they are heavily influenced
by the China culture. For nearly one thousand years, Vietnamese people use and learn Chinese
language. This explained why education has always been their highest priority, Chinese historical
documented recorded many excellent Vietnamese scholars who graduated from China. In 1079,
Temple Of Literature, the first university in Vietnam was established to educate for the rich and royal
members, the school lasted for more than 700 years before closed down. Under the French rule,
Vietnamese people began to adopt to the new western culture. People started to use romanized version
of their language instead of the old Chinese character which has been used as a primary language for
the past 1000 years. After the Vietnam war, the government adopted the

Promiscuity
Promiscuity. What is your reaction to the word? We all know a promiscuous girl. We all look down on
her in our own ways. Sometimes she is backstabbed by friends and sometimes she is openly scorned
by others. What we do not realise, is she is not the only one, or maybe we do not want to accept it.
Research positions us at first place on the podium of promiscuity. Why are we such a promiscuous
nation? What risks are we bringing upon ourselves? Are we all nomads in the land of sexuality?
Perhaps it is our loose lifestyles, or when growing up we are faced with confusion. A young New
Zealander s lifestyle of drinking, partying, and in some cases, drugs is the perfect precedent for a night
likely to be regretted, not remembered, or resulting ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This may result in a decrease of promiscuity, as the new generations self esteems will be healthier. For
young people I believe the confusion they are faced with when growing up may play a part. Maybe the
transition into adulthood makes young people think they need to start being sexually active. They may
become desperate to feel belonging or companionship. These feelings could be likened to those of
Holden Caulfield the main character and protagonist of The Catcher in the Rye by J. D. Salinger.
Throughout the novel Holden is on a seesaw between being a child and being an adult. One of the
issues that surface for him is that of having sex. At one point in the novel Holden is faced with the
opportunity I kept hoping she d be good looking. I didn t care too much, though. I sort of just wanted
to get it over with. This shows Holden s feelings towards sex. Under these circumstances sex has no
signs of intimacy or fun. It is almost as if sex is an opportunity for him to grow up . Maybe it is simply
a rite of passage. It worries me that this may be the reason for some young people being promiscuous.
If they think becoming an adult means they must do this they are obviously not mature enough yet and
still need time to grow up. The statistics produced by a condom maker labels New Zealand women as
the most promiscuous in the world with an average of 20.3 sexual partners. New Zealand men were
not at the top like the women but still above average with

Regulating Tap Water
In America, we tend to take for granted our simple luxuries in life. Running water would be
considered to be among these in most cases. We turn on the faucet, and out comes a safe and
refreshing source of sustenance that is vital to our well being. Now, if you can imagine, what happens
when that refreshing drink of water is not replenishing your body, but killing it. A silent poison
contaminating your way of life, only to find out years later that every ailment you and your family
have endured and possibly even succumbed to, would be blamed on a source of drinking water. This is
exactly what happened to the individuals that were stationed or employed at Camp Lejeune, North
Carolina from the years of 1953 to 1987. The most horrifying of ... Show more content on

That would depend on what you consider a health benefit. As far as the impurities go, the simple
answer would have to be that bottled water is in fact, filtered tap water, so there would be no
advantage to drinking tap water for that single reason (Hogan Larsen). Tap water does contain a
fluoride additive depending on the approved ordinance of the local water supply, which can help
individuals avoid tooth decay. Because most bottled waters have been treated and distilled or de
ionized, they do not contain any amounts of fluoride unless the label specifically states that it has been

When The samurais first came relevant They did not use swords. They would use Archery and

Most Samurai followed a code called the Bushido Code. The code had very strict Rules. A Samurai
must never run from a fight, Even if brutally outnumbered. A samurai must stay healthy physically

Essay on Emily Dickinson’s Poem 67, Poem 1036, and Poem 870
Absence and Loss in Emily Dickinson s Poem 67, Poem 1036, and Poem 870
Emily Dickinson often refers to loss and absence in her poetry. It is not often seen as strictly negative
though. It is, however, seen as inevitable. It is not always inevitable in the negative sense though. It is
sometimes seen as necessary in order to understand life. There seems to be an overall theme of loss
being a part of life. This theme can be seen upon examining poems 67, 1036, and 870.
Poem 67 is a good example of Dickinson portraying absence as positive. The lines Success is counted
sweetest / By those who ne er succeed show that success is most wanted by those who have not
succeeded. The absence of success creates a desire for it. The ... Show more content on

For want to be a commissary for infinity would mean that infinity has charged want with a special
duty. This duty is to create want for infinity. It is absence that creates want. The next stanza supports
this by saying that to posses something is past the instant of joy. This means that the instant of joy is
not the goal itself or even when the goal is achieved. The lines Immortality contented / Were Anomaly.
mean that one can never be content. There is always something to want. There is always something to
achieve. On the other hand, if there is always something to want, there is also always something to
lose. In general, this poem seems to be saying that there will always be want, and that there will
always be absence and loss. If there will always be absent and loss, then it is possible that absence and
loss are major parts of life.
Poem 870 demonstrates absence and loss as inevitable. The poem is obviously a reference to the
Greek myth of Jason and the Argonauts. The lines Third, Expedition for / The Golden Fleece
demonstrate this. In this myth Pelias agrees to surrender the throne of Iolkos to Jason if he brings him
the Golden Fleece. It is a long dangerous journey, but Jason returns with the fleece. (Haskas) In the
poem however, Dickinson is portraying the journey as a continual loss. After the initial gain there is
loss after loss. The lines Fourth, no Discovery / Fifth, no Crew / Finally, no Golden Fleece / Jason
sham too.

The Unexamined Life Is A Life Not Worth Living
What is happiness, and how can one achieve true happiness? This is the ultimate question of life and
what every person is seeking an answer to. Many feel that they have found their answer in belonging
to the faith of their choice, but what is it that their faith teaches them that brings them happiness? The
Philosophers Socrates, Plato and Aristotle all have a similar view on what happiness is and how to
achieve it. Aristotle s view is based on Plato s and Plato s is based on Socrates teachings; this is why
they are similar but they are all important and different with each philosopher s personal views and
beliefs.
Socrates was a great man who was assassinated for his beliefs on the purpose of life and how to live
happily. He presented the excellence of function to determine how a person will truly be happiest. The
true person is not what he is on the out side but what his psyche or soul is and when that is functioning
well the person is happiest. Psyche is the human capacity for reflective thinking and also the
consciousness of the soul. The unexamined life is a life not worth living. This is a quote from Socrates
that supports his views on psyche. It states that when a person does not examine his life to find his true
self, or excellence of function, that they are ignoring their true self and that a false life is not worth the
time to live it. So an examined life will find its true self or what its function is and want to perform its
function well.

Uses and Abuses of Carbonate Sequence Stratigraphy
Uses and Abuses of Carbonate Sequence Stratigraphy
Sequence Stratigraphy
Sequence stratigraphy is a discipline studying the linkages within the chronostratigraphic framework
of sequences which is bounded by unconformities and correlative conformities. It enables
interpretation of sedimentary strata as products of relative sea level change. The sequence stratigraphy
uses sub dividing surfaces to provide a framework to the interpretation of the depositional settings of
the sedimentary section and uses the interpretation for further prediction of the extent and character of
the component sedimentary facies. Sequence stratigraphy was originally designed for seismic sections,
but the principles can be applied to outcrop, core, and well logs. It now provides a powerful method
and is widely used in the petroleum exploration and prospects.
The sequence is a relatively conformable succession of genetically related strata bounded at their
upper surface and base by unconformities and their correlative conformities (Vail, et al., 1977). And it
is composed of a succession of genetically linked deposition systems (systems tracts) and is
interpreted to be deposited between eustatic fall inflection points (Posamentier, et al., 1988). The
systems tracts are divided into Falling Stage Systems Tract/Forced Regressive Wedge Systems Tract
(FSST/ FRWST), Lowstand Systems Tract (LST), Transgressive Systems Tract (TST) and Highstand
Systems Tract (HST); and are bounded by surfaces which consist of

Equality between Women and Men, or Gender Equality, means equality of rights and freedoms. For
equal opportunities for participation, recognition and appreciation of women and men, In all areas of

Thus, more and more profound changes are taking place in the traditionally and social construction of
gender roles according to sex, leading to a conception of the masculine and differentiated and

Feminism Is The Belief Of Political, Economic And Social...
Feminism by: Laura Capellán
Feminism is the belief in political, economic and social equality of the sexes and is one of the leading
conflicts in today s society. In the past years, women had faced many battles to fight and give these
rights to women who have been deprived of their rights and privileges that were never given to them
by men. I believe that every person is entitled to have equal opportunities in this world. Feminism has
proven to slowly accomplishing this. Even if it meant hurting the people that you love. The Victorian
Era came change. This caused conflicts between right and wrong for a women during this time.
Feminism took a huge role in the roaring twenties that no one saw coming.
For example a new woman was born , which I believe is huge part of the feminists movements,
instigating many changes to the societies to come. Starting a different stereotype for women. Before
the twenties, the typical women would be what people consider today to be stay at home mom . The
women would stay home while the men worked; that meant cleaning, cooking, taking care of the kids,
and doing whatever is necessary to please the standards of their husbands. Many women had carry the
expectations that were held by their mothers. I disagree with the typical women during this time
because I believe that a women should be independent without being tied down by a man.
Another example, women started to make changes for the better. Believing that they could

Well-Being Of America Essay
The well being of our country can be greatly helped or threatened by major events or changes.
Recently, events such as the 2016 presidential election and changes such as decreases in people
striving to lose weight and the obesity rate increasing have considerably affected the well being of the
United States. These events and changes have directly affected the people of our country and will
continue to affect our people until something has been done in addressing them. Less than a month
ago, our country experienced one of the most opposed and protested elections in history. The day of
the election and the day following it reported a very high 20% of Americans were in a bad
mood(characterized by stress and worry without happiness), almost double the average amount
(Davis). There are many contributing factors to why this number could have been so high. It s not just
one reason, but a combination of lots of explanations for why so many Americans were considered to

If the people don t want to lose the weight, then they won t lose it. In the 2000s, about 59% of
Americans reported that they wanted to lose weight, and now that has dropped to about 53% (Swift).
Even though only 28% of Americans are obese, a large 53% of us want to lose some weight. I think a
lot of that has to do with the amount of discrimination that television and media in general puts on
obesity and people that are overweight. There are numerous commercials running everyday about
weight loss programs, diets, and medication to take to help lose the weight. Media can take a lot of the

Character Analysis Of Loki
Loki is the embodiment of, Of course it was Loki. It s always Loki. Loki is unquestionably the biggest
question mark within Norse mythology. He is portrayed as a scheming, mischievous deity who has no
real loyalties, his role is shrouded in mystery; what was his purpose in the ancient stories. Loki s
character arises questions about his role; was he a plot device, a foil for the Aesir, or maybe he was
meant to be used as a warning to child? Within the pantheon of Norse gods, he was an anomaly; his
fellow gods are mostly one dimensional and Loki is anything but. Loki is the antithesis to the culture

Collaboration In Twelve Angry Men
The film Twelve Angry Men, released in 1957, is based on a play by Reginald Rose of the same title.
This is a fascinating examination of a small group communication, the transitive process of creating
meaning with people who share a common purpose. Rose s story puts the American judicial system on
trial and comments on prejudices that were socially revenant in the 1950 s. The interaction between
twelve diverse jurors brought together to decide the fate of a young defendant in what appears as an
open and shut trial has become an American classic and is considered a demonstration of our legal
system.
The group communication concepts I ve selected that highlight important themes in the film are:
determining when collaboration is needed, the functional ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
These functions are goal function, analysis function, idea generated function, evaluation function, and
personal sensitivity function. The first step is goal function, for the team or group to have a clear goal.
The goal in this film was to get 12 angry men to agree on a verdict, guilty or not guilty. The second
step is the analysis function, to analyze the data, inforamation, or evidence that can help the group
achieve the group goal. When juror #8 provided a not guilty decision many of the group members
became upset. juror #7 made it clear to the group that he would like to get out of their quickly so he
could attend the baseball game he had tickets for. This is a prime example of individual roles,

The Great Wave Kanagawa Analysis
The Great Wave off Kanagawa was produced somewhere between 1830 and 1833, by Japanese
Katsushika Hokusai, a painter, and a woodblock artist printer. Since he was a woodblock artist printer,
there were between 5000 8000 original prints of this picture, although there are only about a few
hundred remaining to this day. In the painting, you can see massive waves crashing into small ships.
In the background, you can see Mt. Fuji, although it looks like another wave, you can tell it s a
mountain because of it s the cone shape.
I think that Katsushika Hokusai made the end of the wave with many curly lines to show how
destructive the wave is and how big the wave actually is. Katsushika used many long, curved lines to
make the main body of the wave. This allows the viewer to be able to understand that the wave is
about to crash into the ships. He also painted many other waves that weren t quite as big. The outline
of these waves is made up of slightly curved lines that turn in slightly jagged lines. This detail ... Show

One of these details is the end of the waves. The ends of the waves are curled, making it look as if the
waves have fingers that are reaching out to the boats so they can crush the boats. This gives the viewer
a sense of calamity and catastrophe. Katsushika purposely made the wave look massive compared to
Mt. Fuji because it gives the viewer a feeling that the wave is much larger than it actually is. In fact,
people estimate that the biggest wave in the painting is only 32 to 39 feet tall, which is big, but with
the perspective given, it looks as if the wave is really 300 feet tall. I think that Katsushika made the
outline of the smaller waves look like a mountain because he didn t want the main focus of the
artwork to be about Mt. Fuji, and instead, he wanted it to be about the huge waves and the part the

The Impact Of The Boston Tea Party
The colonists were angry and furious, the King was taxing everything. Every new tax made the
colonist s mad and made the King money. Son s of Liberty had the tax collectors scared, so they all
agreed to stop taxing, but that s not what the king wanted. The King made them keep taxing the tea
only. The colonist s were still very upset with the tea tax. That is what leaded to the Boston Tea party
(the tea act). The Boston Tea Party had the best impact on the colonists towards fighting for their
Independence. From my opinion Britain could have made things fair for everyone, but the King was
selfish.
The colonist s were very upset with Britain, because they won t stop taxing, but once they did stop
they only taxed the tea. That was not good for the colonist s. As the taxing of tea was still going on,
people were getting more and more furious each day. We must fight, I repeat it,sir,we must fight I

A Brief Overview of Porn and the 20th Century
Porn and technology:
Pornography has, more than any other type of media, been on the bleeding edge of technology.
Pushing new mediums to their limit, usually in the last way they were ever intended to be used (Gross,
2010). We start off the 20th Century with the Half tone printing process being only two decades old.
This was the first process that allowed images to be inexpensively reproduced. Magazines were the
leading pornographic medium, and they were only available by mail. Then, with the advent of film,
the Stag films were first produced in Germany and Latin America. With the arrival of do it yourself
film equipment in the 1940 s anyone could make a film. The problem was it required a lab to make
mass copies, and since porn was ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Accepting Porn: Since the accidental discovery of the first pornography at Pompii in 1592 porn has
had a bad reputation. It is a Victorian word first defined by Webster as Licentious painting or literature
. From its very beginning pornography was outlawed and banned from the public. In the beginning of
the 20th century one could be jailed for even viewing a stag film. This may of hurt the quality of porn
but it the principal of supply and demand stayed intact, and there was always an overwhelming
demand. The way that demand has been supplied has changed drastically throughout the 20th century.
Porn went from socially unacceptable to a social phenomenon. Public opinion, slowly, overturned
government rule. The main reason porn became more acceptable was because masturbation became
more socially acceptable (Paul, 2005). In the early 1900 s we see masturbation as an act someone took
shame in, because it meant that person didn t have anyone to have sex with. In modern times
masturbation is said to be healthy by health care professionals and although it is not spoken of often, it
is accepted. When porn was first discovered by the Victorians within the Roman ruins of Pompii there
was a major fear that the lower educated, working class would do nothing all day but sit at home and

Computers and networks became increasingly known and used in the 1990s. Hackers back then were

Mandaean Chapter 4
In Chapter 4, Turning the Tables on Jesus: the Mandaean View , by Jorunn Jacobsen Buckley, states

the social history of the early Christians. The Mandaeans were known as the knower s or Gnostics and
they are the only ones that survived that have a connection to the early Christians. Mandaeans have

Taliban And The Taliban From Afghanistan
The Taliban is an extremist Islamic group highly emphasizing a strong interpretation of sharia law that
arose in the early 1990s after the withdrawal of Soviet troops from Afghanistan. Referencing the BBC
article, a common belief holds that the Taliban first emerged in religious seminaries that preached a
hard line of Sunni Islam. The Taliban s promise to Afghanistan, Pakistan, and the surrounding area
was to restore peace and security using their interpretation of the sharia law once they were in power (
Who Are the Taliban? ). Along with the many new policies and regulations of society, there arose a
new interpretation of the role of women in society. Women became very restricted and had to live in a
way that was extremely submissive to men to the point where it was almost dehumanizing, as many
would argue. Although the Taliban has been out of control in Afghanistan since December of 2001,
remnants of their oppression towards women remain. In this paper, I will demonstrate the Taliban s
remaining effects in Afghan society regarding many aspects of everyday life, such as the workforce,
education, healthcare, and human rights. To begin, I will give a brief overview of how Afghan women
participated in society before the Taliban came to power. I will then provide information and examples
that shed light on women s life during Taliban rule. In the final section of this paper, I will describe
how the lifestyle of women has changed as a result of the Taliban s oppressive laws and

Designing The Cd Package Design
CD Package Design
I was inspired by watercolor portraits and CD packaging designs from other students. I decided to
incorporate this idea into the CD package design. Throughout the CD Package, I added a faded
textured in the background of the design. Within the background on the back panel, I added a
transparent photograph of a cricket to keep consistent with the title of the album name. Then, added
paint splatters and rendered them to make the model as a recognizable subject for the cover. In
addition, I added the song titles and an excerpt inside the front sleeve of the cover. Furthermore, I used
three colors: cerulean blue, chartreuse green, and indigo purple throughout the project. Lastly, I added
a barcode, a record label logo, and fictitious information to make the entire CD package look realistic.
Typography Calendars

shades of green and a beige color for the background in the calendar. I expanded the word May and
composed the days of the month and weeks into the word itself. I also included the history of Franklin
Gothic and added Franklin Gothic at the bottom of the composition. Lastly, I added 2015 on top of the
bottom base to complete the calendar.
For the month of October, I used the font Times New Roman and used different shades of the color
red throughout the whole calendar. Instead of using a standard calendar outline, I decided to add the

New High School Graduation Requirements
Introduction
In 2007 the Oregon Department of Education (ODE) adopted new high school graduation
requirements. In addition to completing the state s credit requirements and demonstrating proficiency
on state standardized assessments, students must meet three personalized learning requirements
(PLRs): 1) completion of an education plan and profile; 2) participation in career related learning
experiences; and 3) extended application of personalized learning knowledge and skills in activities
relevant to postsecondary and career goals. This process is intended to begin in grade 7 and continue
through a student s senior year. See appendix A for more details on Oregon s requirements.
ODE and the Oregon Education Investment Board (OEIB) view the PLRs as critical to Oregon
students postsecondary readiness and success. The two agencies are partnering with REL Northwest
and the Oregon College and Career Readiness Research Alliance (OR CCR) to develop
recommendations for increasing and improving PLR implementation at public schools across the state.
This report provides a review of research on personalized learning and promising practices occurring
across the country. In this brief, we use personalized learning to refer to the entire process of
completing PLRs. The process is often documented in and/or referred to as a personalized learning
plan and includes participation in a variety of learning activities and experiences. This brief is

Learner Autonomy
What is Learner Autonomy and How Can It Be Fostered?
Dimitrios Thanasoulas
The Internet TESL Journal
2. What is Autonomy?
For a definition of autonomy, we might quote Holec (1981: 3, cited in Benson Voller, 1997: 1) who
describes it as the ability to take charge of one s learning . On a general note, the term autonomy has
come to be used in at least five ways (see Benson Voller, 1997: 2): for situations in which learners
study entirely on their own; for a set of skills which can be learned and applied in self directed
learning; for an inborn capacity which is suppressed by institutional education; for the exercise of
learners responsibility for their own learning; for the right of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

This stands to reason, for most of the characteristics imputed to the autonomous learner encapsulate a
wide range of attributes not commonly associated with learners. For instance, Benn (1976, cited in
Candy, 1991: 102) likens the autonomous learner to one [w]hose life has a consistency that derives
from a coherent set of beliefs, values, and principles [and who engages in a] still continuing process of
criticism and re evaluation , while Rousseau ([1762] 1911, cited in Candy, 1991: 102) regards the
autonomous learner as someone who is obedient to a law that he prescribes to himself . Within the
context of education, though, there seem to be seven main attributes characterising autonomous
learners (see Omaggio, 1978, cited in Wenden, 1998: 41 42): 1. Autonomous learners have insights
into their learning styles and strategies; 2. take an active approach to the learning task at hand; 3. are
willing to take risks, i.e., to communicate in the target language at all costs; 4. are good guessers; 5.
attend to form as well as to content, that is, place importance on accuracy as well as appropriacy; 6.
develop the target language into a separate reference system and are willing to revise and reject
hypotheses and rules that do not apply; and 7. have a tolerant and outgoing approach to the target
language.

The meaning of Thirsty in this second noble truth is not just about the dedication to desire, richness

religious. (Tsering, 2010) Due to the analysis by Buddha, all of the disputes on this world such as

Cameras also will protect students by providing evidence if something unexpected occurs.
More and more schools are installing security cameras in halls, classrooms and buses. Administrators
say it helps protect students and staff, but some argue the practice is invasive. many students around
the world have been falsely accused of something they didn t do. All of these problems can be
eliminated with one little piece of technology hanging from the ceiling. That little piece of technology
is a surveillance camera which can be placed almost anywhere. Many schools are determining whether
or not to install security cameras in classrooms. Those who have, have seen dramatic changes in
teachers, students, and even parents. Cameras have many helpful factors. For instance, cameras can be
used to train future teachers, broadcast to students at home, and deal with bullying. Having cameras in
a classroom environment are beneficial for students, teachers, parents, and schools because they hold
teachers accountable, help students improve their behavior, and evaluate teacher and student

Teaching And Coaching As A Philosophy
A philosophy can be defined as a set of values and behaviours that serve to guide the actions of a
coach (Wilcox and Trudel, 1998, p.41). By drawing from all facets of a person s life, each is specific
to the learner and distinguishes teachers and coaches from one another. It can be consciously
developed as the professional, teacher/coach and student within education is exposed to a practice as
well as other life experiences. It is believed that clearly articulating one s philosophy is a prerequisite
to good practice (Cassidy et al, 2008, p.55) throughout this essay I hope to reflect on my increasing
knowledge foundation in teaching and coaching and how it has successfully developed and been
applied to my philosophy as a coach.

However, I disagree, as a coach I believe you must have specific sport knowledge to the sport in
context but knowledge from a wider base to fully engage in successful practice of techniques which
accompany a successful end result as well as being able to develop the athlete on a wider basis. This is
supported by the fact coaches work with fewer people and at a higher skill level does not negate the
fact that they are engaged in teaching...skills, techniques and strategies ( Drewe, 2000, p.81) this
coupled with the fact coaches tend to spend more time with athletes which means they too, also
develop the fundamental domains of the athlete. For this reason I believe both roles are intertwined
and provide basis for both to thrive from. In order to for me to be an affective coach I must take both
concepts and make sure that I develop the child s ability as well as other factors.
A way I have developed as a coach is by exploring philosophies of coaching and in particular three
core philosophical concepts, values (axiology), morality (ethics), and meaning (ontology). Values
(axiology) can be split into two sources, which include value in both sport and coaching and more
distinctly subjective and objective values. This is determined by whether a person is intrinsically or
extrinsically motivated. Subjective values

Britain went clear back to the 1860 s. As Britain kept getting out bested by Germany an American
trust builder named Junius Pierpont Morgan saw a chance to make money or a monopoly. Morgan
realized the rivalry and had already monopolized U.S railroads, and wanted to to take control over the
North Atlantic Shipping Lines. Morgan s first move in 1898 was when he bought the more ran down
Inman Line. The owner of the White Star Line, Thomas Ismay, foresaw a big rate war on the North
Atlantic and resisted Morgan until his death in 1899. After Ismay s death Morgan jumped at the
opportunity to get more control by purchasing a controlling interest from the German lines, Hamburg
Amerika and Norddeutscher Lloyd. Just a year later Morgan gained control of the Leyland Line, the
Dominion Line, and the Red Star Line. His next targets were the White Star Line, and the Cunard. For
competition Morgan cut fares until his lines were a third class passage to America for as little as two
euros, ($2.38). J. Bruce Ismay, the son of Thomas Ismay, resisted Morgan like his father.

The Body as a Site for Enquiry in Art and Fashion
The body as a site for enquiry in art and fashion Introduction Dressing defines the outward
arrangement of materials and objects in the body of human beings. Dressing does not only include
clothing but also other accessories, makeup and hairstyle. Dressing is an important feature to
humankind. Over the ages dressing has evolved to various designs and styles to meet the desires of
man and trends. The basic reason for dressing/clothing is protection and warmth, although dressing
functions to communicate our identities and cultures. Apart from the basic need of clothing, other
purposes of dressing are beauty, modesty, ritual purposes and style. Dressing makes us look attractive
and confident over a period. Cultural practices and beliefs define what a society view as modesty in
dressing. Some cultures dressing does not require covering of the whole body and still people view it
as a modest way of dressing. Other cultures view modes as covering most of the body parts when
dressing. Dressing also specifies rituals and ceremony to express the outward meaning of the
ceremony. Most people in societies today view dressing as a form of expressing a sense of fashion.
Fashion is a way in which a certain accepted form of dressing transforms to meet the requirements of
people, environment and trend. Fashion can be an art but art cannot be fashion. An individual can
express his art in fashion, but an artist cannot do so. There is, however, a big connection between art
and fashion.

and summer to his love. The speaker describes the beauty of the summer isle, Where bamboos spire
the shafted grove/ and wide mouthed orchids smile (lines 7 8). The speaker conveys the image of
bamboos spiring, and orchids smiling to show the beauty of nature during this time of season. In
addition the speaker notes the beauty of nature surrounding their cottage And we will seek the quiet

cottage. Their summer cottage is on a hill surrounded by cotton trees below. Finally, the speaker adds

The speaker first claims We ll turn our faces southward, love, /Toward the summer isle (lines 5 6). The
speaker states that once winter is over he and his love will travel south towards the cottage. The

speaker declares at the end of the poem And ferns that never fade (16). The ferns symbolize the couple
s love. The couple s relationship will never fade just as the ferns will not fade but flourish. McKay

Post Modernism/20/1/98/P.Covington/Media Disc
This is a relatively new development and there are few sources that present clear and readable
accounts of it. It is a reaction to the belief of postmodernists that Marx concentrated excessively on
production, at the cost of consumption.
Introduction
This concept, despite its variety of meanings and definitions, is used to refer to many aspects of social
life from musical forms and styles, literature and fine art through to philosophy, history and especially
the mass media. Post modernism is a slippery term that is used by writers to refer to several different
things. Featherstone (1991) points out the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
We have become disillusioned and no longer expect the world to become a better place.
Metranarratives have partly been discredited because, in an era of global media in which we learn
more and more about other peoples beliefs and lifestyles, it becomes less and less possible to regard
one lifestyle or one belief system as the true one .
Dominic Strinati
Strinati suggests that, post modern TV and film become preoccupied merely with surface style and
imagery, rather than deeper underlying themes, which might relate to the realities of the human
condition. Action blockbuster movies dwell on special effects, rather than strong plots and TV drama
departs from realist plots of the 1960 s (which attempted to look at serious issues such as
homelessness, Cathy Come Home and embraces a surreal world in which reality is often confused;
For example, Twin Peaks, or more recently The X Files and American Gothic. Kaplan (1987)
identified pop and rock videos as perfect examples of post modernist culture because they abandon all
notion of narrative structure there is no attempt to tell a story , rather the power of the rock video lies
purely in the collage of images mixed with music.

How Does Elizabeth Proctor Create Tension In The Crucible
The historical events occurring in The Crucible are portraying the Salem witch trials that took place in
the Province of Massachusetts Bay during 1962. Arthur Miller the writer of this astonishing play, with
these unforgettable characters remaking this time in history. Fear pushes these Puritans to show the
true selves while facing the accusers in the court before the merciless judges. Dwelling in the heart of
Abigail Williams is revenge and shame, as Elizabeth Proctor is full of righteousness and faith being
the wife of John Proctor. Together they increase the tension and suspense of the play. Their
comparison led to the desire for one man s love, Elizabeth s husband. The differences were Abigail

She would try and make up faux stories to cover up her practicing witchcraft. As the other girls were
becoming involved they started feeling guilty. Abigail immediately threatened them that she would
come with a sharp reckoning that make them shudder at night. She wouldn t play around when it came
to getting in trouble or ruining her chances with John Proctor. Elizabeth being the merely opposite,
was a honest, sweet, reliable wife. When deciding his execution John offered for Elizabeth to speak of
an incident that had occurred because he knew she would tell the complete truth, even if his life was
on the line. He said to the judges, In her life sir, she will never lie (Miller, Act 3,111) they are both

similarity. Loving John, he commits adultery with Abigail and testifies that he has never had an affair
with her. Abigail loved for all the wrong reasons, her uncle, Mr. Parris, accused her of committing a
crime with John, but she would blame it on Elizabeth. Hating each other would be another similarity,
Abigail trying to get with Elizabeth s wife. While Elizabeth is trying her best to get her husband to
love and respect her once again. She never gave up on getting John to focus on her again. For stating

Symbolism in The Ones Who Walk Away from Omelas and Sur by...
Guin s Symbolic Meanings Symbolism is commonly used by authors that make short stories. Guin is a
prime example of how much symbolism is used in short stories such as The Ones Who Walk Away
from Omelas and Sur. In both of these stories Guin uses symbolism to show hidden meanings and
ideas. In The Ones Who Walk Away from Omelas there is a perfect Utopian city, yet in this perfect
city there is a child locked in a broom closet and it is never let out. A few people leave the city when
they find out about the child, but most people stay. Furthermore, in Sur there is a group of girls that
travel to the South Pole and reach it before anyone else, yet they leave no sign or marker at the South
Pole. Guin s stories are very farfetched ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
With this in mind both the child in the broom closet and drooz are the two most important symbols in
The Ones Who Walk Away from Omelas because they both help reveal the main theme of the story to
the readers. The third most important symbol in The Ones Who Walk Away from Omelas is the colors
Guin uses to describe the city of Omelas. Guin uses green and gold the most to describe the city
Omelas and its citizens. She also uses red, silver, white, and dark blue to help describe the city of
Omelas. In The Ones Who Walk Away from Omelas gold is used as a symbol for power and wealth,
while green is used as a symbol for energy. Correspondingly The horses wore no gear at all but a
halter without a bit. Their manes were braided with streamers of silver, gold, and green (Guin 1). As
one can see by this quote green and gold are obvious, yet important symbols. Green and gold as
symbols relate back to the citizens and the city of Omelas. Hence green and gold can lead the reader to
find many themes they would not think of without these two very important symbols. In Sur Guin uses
the weather as one of the main symbols. Throughout the whole story of Sur Guin is very descriptive
about the weather. For instance It was over cast, white weather, without shadows and without visible
horizon or any feature to break the level; there was nothing else at all (Guin 167). This quote shows

Essay on The Lutheran Church and The Catholic Church
The heart overflows with gladness, and leaps and dances for the joy it has found in God. In this
experience the Holy Spirit is active, and has taught us in the flash of a moment the deep secret of joy.
You will have as much joy and laughter in life as you have faith in God. These are the words of Martin
Luther, the man who started the Lutheran Church which soon led to the creation of the Evangelical
Lutheran Church of America. The Church was officially formed on January 1, 1988 and was a
combination of three branches of the Lutheran religion: the American Lutheran church, the
Association of Evangelical Lutheran churches, and the Lutheran Church in America. In 2012 the
ELCA had 3,950,924 baptized members. Today, it is the seventh largest ... Show more content on

Of the articles, twenty one presented the Catholic faith as taught by the Lutherans and seven dealt with
medieval Roman Catholic practices and beliefs which reformers believed were abuses. On August
third of 1520, the Catholic theologians replied condemning thirteen articles, accepting nine without
qualifications, and approving six with qualifications. This reply later became known as the
Confutation. The Catholic Church disagrees with many of the teachings of the ELCA, but it continues
to meet with them and discuss specific topics. There are many differences between the Roman
Catholic Church and the ELCA, however there are two main ones. The Catholic Church believes that
to reach salvation one must have faith and do good works. In contrast, the ELCA believes salvation
can be reached through faith alone. Yet James chapter two verse seventeen states, In the same way,
faith by itself, if it is not accompanied by action, is dead. Another difference between the two churches
is the views on the pope. The Catholic Church sees him as a representative of Christ, whereas the
ELCA believes that he takes the place of Christ. The ELCA has many more beliefs which strongly
differ from the Catholic Church such as: there are human errors and contradictions in the Bible, the
story of creation is a myth, and what Jesus says in the Bible was truly made up by those who

Situtational Judgement Tests
Introduction Situational judgment tests (SJTs) is one of the common methods which always be used in
personnel selection recently. Specifically, situational judgment tests (SJTs) typically consist of
scenarios of hypothetical work situations in which a problem has arisen. Accompanying each scenario
are multiple possible ways to respond to the hypothetical situation. The test taker is then asked to
judge the possible courses of action (L. A. L. de Meijer et al., 2010, p.229). In terms of the
development of SJTs, the scenarios and situations are always gathered by the subject matter experts
from specific job related critical incidents; and then subject matter experts would gather information
in order to create the possible responses; finally, subject matter experts would develop the scoring
keys for the SJTs (Crook et al., 2011). SJT items may be presented in different formats, such as paper
pencil based, verbal, video based, or computer based formats (e.g., Clevenger, Pereira, Wiechmann,
Schmitt, Schmidt Harvey, 2001; Motowidlo et al., 1990), and participants of the SJTs are usually
required to choose the most appropriate option among the several options for each situation or
scenario (Christian, Edwards, Bradley, 2010). The most common formats are paper pencil based and
video based SJTs. We first have the paper pencil based SJTs, and then, Thorndike (1949) mentioned
the video based SJTs would be closer to real life situations than the paper pencil based formation of

Amissibility of Text Messages in Court
The more technology has been developing, the harder it has been to have privacy. Technology has
been making our lives so much easier yet so much harder. Most people have smart phones that store
all of their conversations through text messages, emails, picture messages, social media applications
and chat messengers. As much as we would like to believe that we are the only ones that have access
to our phones there are ways for police to be able to tap our phone without our permission. This essay
will examine court cases regarding text messages including the admissibility and inadmissibility of
text messages as evidence in court, verification issues and also how to create fake conversations
through text messages. Evidence of text messages are primarily used by prosecutors to discredit the
defendant(s) even though prior discreditable conduct is generally inadmissible, however, exceptions
are made (R v SM, 2012 [8]). In the case of R v SM, the judge concluded that the text messages are
admissible evidence for two reasons, both on the basis that the messages provided direct evidence to
the defendant s involvement in the crime. Therefore, the exception under the exclusionary rule applies
because the evidence is highly relevant and cogent that its probative value in the search for truth
outweighs any potential for misuse (R v SM, 2012 [6]). An appeal is a system of reviewing a decision
of a previous judge who had misused or misinterpreted the law. After discovering the error

Definition Of Maintaining Rule Of Law
V: Morality Ought
Criterion:
Maintaining Rule of Law
The rule of law is vital to keep power with the people and prevent a government from being all
powerful and oppressive.
Specific to the actor (juror)
Jurors become part of the legal system, part of the governance, so they are particularly obligated to
society as a whole.
Contention 1
Jury nullification undermines legal stability by wrongfully distributing lawmaking powers and
destroying due process and objective application. Legal expert, Erick Haynie writes:
Journal of Criminal Law and Criminology Volume 88 Issue 1 Fall Article 8 Fall 1997 Populism, Free
Speech, and the Rule of Law: The Fully Informed Jury Movement and its Implications Erick J. Haynie

6 This reality was explained long ago in the Supreme Court s landmark decision of Sparf Hansen v.
United States,8 7 which addressed the issue of jury nullification in the federal court system. Holding
that it is the right and duty of the trial judge to instruct the jury to follow the law, the Court wrote that:
Public and private safety alike would be in peril if the principle be established that juries in criminal
cases may, of right, [be told to] disregard the law as expounded to them by the court, and become a
law unto themselves. Under such a system, the principal function of the judge would be to preside and
keep order while jurymen, untrained in the law, would determine questions affecting life, liberty, or
property according to such legal principles as, in their judgement, were applicable to the particular
case being tried.... We must hold firmly to the doctrine that in the courts of the United States it is the
duty ofjuries in criminal cases to take the law from the court, and apply that law to the facts as they
find them to be from the evidence. The Ninth Circuit has criticized nullification arguments by counsel
as violative of the rule of law in even stronger terms: If we... allow lawyers to appeal for jury
nullification

INVESTIGATION ON TURNING PARAMETERS ON MACHINING TIME AND VIBRATION OF
CARBON FIBER REINFORCED LAMINATES ABSTRACT: This work proposes the investigation
of machining time and vibration characteristics of machining differently oriented unidirectional
Carbon Fiber Reinforced Polymer (CFRP). The carbon fibers are oriented at 0, 45, 90 degrees during
stacking process of laminate. The turning experiments are carried out in Siemens CNC Lathe to
investigate best operating conditions. There are 9 experiments based on Taguchi s L9 orthogonal array
are performed. The machining parameters are Spindle Speed, Feed and Depth of cut and the output
responses are machining time and amplitude of vibration. The predication models are developed using
ANOVA. To find the best value of the regression model, a real time coded Genetic Algorithm (GA)
using Turbo C++ and MATLAB tool box GA are used. The result indicated that predicted models are
significant and the real time coded GA produced best value. KEYWORDS: Turning, Genetic

My Personal Narrative
My personal narrative
It was a normal summer morning, the sun came up, and I woke up and got ready for the day, but it
wouldn t be any normal summer day. It all started when the same summer morning, when my dad
asked, Hey Gavin, you want to go to the Makers Fair at Union Station? I didn t know what he was
talking about, so I asked him a few questions about what the makers fair was. He told me that it was a
fair where people made products and technology. My dad stated, I wouldn t ask you if I didn t think
you would like it. I was sure whether to say yes or no. It sounded cool because I has an interest, but I
was a little worried that I would let my hopes up too high and be upset when it turned out to not be as
good as I expected. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
I was amazed at the fact that this kind of technology was at the fair, yet I was a little hesitant about
going to it first. If I knew that there was stuff this interesting at it, I would have been the one asking to
go there. Believe it or not, this wouldn t be the most interesting thing I would see that day.
After exploring for a while, my parents and I moved on to the next section. One of the most interesting
things we saw was a rover made by students from the University of Missouri Science and Technology.
A rover is a remote controlled robot on wheels designed to help humans complete certain tasks.
Rovers have many different designs. This rover had six black wheels that were very flimsy. Above the
wheels was a rectangular compartment that held the computers and power supply. The was also a pole
with a camera on top, not a typical camera, but a small rectangular cube with flat lenses. I also a
robotic arm on the front of the rover used to pick up move objects. Since it had a similar design to the
rovers that NASA has sent to Mars, I became interested in it since I was passionate about space travel.
I examined the rover for a while, and then one of the students, noticing how I was interested in the
rover came over, and asked: Do you have any questions?
Wanting to continue my observations without being interrupted, I said, I don t have any questions right
now. However, I heard my mom and talking

  • 4. Hannukah There are many holidays, secular and religious to chose from. Before deciding on your favorite one, you have to think about what makes a good holiday. First, a good holiday has tradition. Remembering past holidays and stories about how the holiday originated make a holiday memorable. A good holiday also has to have lots of fun. Having fun during a holiday makes it a great break from regular life. The last aspect that makes a holiday great is soothing the problems of daily life with family time. Enjoying what you love with those you love is a great feeling. Based on this criteria, I feel the best holiday is the Jewish holiday of Hannukah. • 5. Research Paper On Amazon Rainforest Calvin Al Ashkar Mrs. Beary Envormental Sciences 11/10/17 The Amazon Rainforest Covering more than forty percent of South America is the Amazon Rainforest. It s known for being the largest rainforest on the planet. Most of the jungle lies in Brazil. The Amazon Rainforest also holds the Amazon River. According to the National Science Foundation, the amazon river is the longest river in the world by volume and contains twenty percent of the Earths freshwater. But the Nile River is the longest when calculating width. Being as big a it is, the amazon holds a massive number of dfferent types of species of wildlife with different kinds of sub ecosystems to provide for them. When I think of the Amazon I first think of the terrestrial ecosystems. These are the land based eviroments. I m going to take the first part of this project to talk about the terrestrial ecosystem in the amazon and all the wildlife that it holds. According to WorldAtlas there are 427 types of mammals, 1,300 types of birds, 378 types of reptiles, more than 400 kinds of amphibians, over 80,000 types of plants and trees, and estimation of over 2 million differnt types of insects. Unfortunatley I cannot go over ever single one of these unique species so I will talk about the more popular species that benefit the jungle. The rainforest is divided in four layers: forest floor, understory, canopy and emergent. The canopy is the most heavy populated with plant life, with trees towering up to 200 feet ... A biological attack is the ...intentional release of a pathogen or bio toxin....against humans plants or animals... (Forest Howard, 2013, p. 113). These pathogens and bio toxins intentionally released are also known as bioweapons because they can cause economic catastrophe, illness, deaths, fear, and even disruption to normal day practices. There are three different categories of pathogens and bio toxins dependent on the level of threat they present. Category A includes the pathogens and bio toxins that have the greatest threat. Depending on if the pathogen or bio toxin was aimed at humans or plants or animals, consequences can differ. An attack on agriculture could possibly be devastating on economics and food supply. Attacking animals could have the same consequences. Humans on the other hand are exposed to an entirely different consequence, long term health consequences. As stated, to those exposed to a biological attack and survive, the long term health consequences are unknown (Forest Howard, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 8. Education In Vietnam Education Education plays a key role in human life and it has always been a controversial topic. Throughout the years, the system has gotten better, country that have an effective system are some of the most powerful forces. However, some countries in the world are still using the outdated education system, especially Vietnam. Students are under pressure from friends and family to study, there is a lack of development in the curriculum and school tends to focus about score and not teaching soft, practical skill for students. Government corruption also causes a huge impact on this problem. This drawback limits school capability of creating genius. Vietnam has had a long history of being dominated by other countries and they are heavily influenced by the China culture. For nearly one thousand years, Vietnamese people use and learn Chinese language. This explained why education has always been their highest priority, Chinese historical documented recorded many excellent Vietnamese scholars who graduated from China. In 1079, Temple Of Literature, the first university in Vietnam was established to educate for the rich and royal members, the school lasted for more than 700 years before closed down. Under the French rule, Vietnamese people began to adopt to the new western culture. People started to use romanized version of their language instead of the old Chinese character which has been used as a primary language for the past 1000 years. • 9. Promiscuity Promiscuity. What is your reaction to the word? We all know a promiscuous girl. We all look down on her in our own ways. Sometimes she is backstabbed by friends and sometimes she is openly scorned by others. What we do not realise, is she is not the only one, or maybe we do not want to accept it. Research positions us at first place on the podium of promiscuity. Why are we such a promiscuous nation? What risks are we bringing upon ourselves? Are we all nomads in the land of sexuality? Perhaps it is our loose lifestyles, or when growing up we are faced with confusion. A young New Zealander s lifestyle of drinking, partying, and in some cases, drugs is the perfect precedent for a night likely to be regretted, not remembered, or resulting ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This may result in a decrease of promiscuity, as the new generations self esteems will be healthier. For young people I believe the confusion they are faced with when growing up may play a part. Maybe the transition into adulthood makes young people think they need to start being sexually active. They may become desperate to feel belonging or companionship. These feelings could be likened to those of Holden Caulfield the main character and protagonist of The Catcher in the Rye by J. D. Salinger. Throughout the novel Holden is on a seesaw between being a child and being an adult. One of the issues that surface for him is that of having sex. At one point in the novel Holden is faced with the opportunity I kept hoping she d be good looking. I didn t care too much, though. I sort of just wanted to get it over with. This shows Holden s feelings towards sex. Under these circumstances sex has no signs of intimacy or fun. It is almost as if sex is an opportunity for him to grow up . Maybe it is simply a rite of passage. It worries me that this may be the reason for some young people being promiscuous. If they think becoming an adult means they must do this they are obviously not mature enough yet and still need time to grow up. The statistics produced by a condom maker labels New Zealand women as the most promiscuous in the world with an average of 20.3 sexual partners. We turn on the faucet, and out comes a safe and refreshing source of sustenance that is vital to our well being. Now, if you can imagine, what happens when that refreshing drink of water is not replenishing your body, but killing it. A silent poison contaminating your way of life, only to find out years later that every ailment you and your family have endured and possibly even succumbed to, would be blamed on a source of drinking water. • 12. Essay on Emily Dickinson’s Poem 67, Poem 1036, and Poem 870 Absence and Loss in Emily Dickinson s Poem 67, Poem 1036, and Poem 870 Emily Dickinson often refers to loss and absence in her poetry. It is not often seen as strictly negative though. It is, however, seen as inevitable. It is not always inevitable in the negative sense though. It is sometimes seen as necessary in order to understand life. There seems to be an overall theme of loss being a part of life. This theme can be seen upon examining poems 67, 1036, and 870. Poem 67 is a good example of Dickinson portraying absence as positive. The lines Success is counted sweetest / By those who ne er succeed show that success is most wanted by those who have not succeeded. The absence of success creates a desire for it. The ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... For want to be a commissary for infinity would mean that infinity has charged want with a special duty. This duty is to create want for infinity. It is absence that creates want. The next stanza supports this by saying that to posses something is past the instant of joy. This means that the instant of joy is not the goal itself or even when the goal is achieved. The lines Immortality contented / Were Anomaly. mean that one can never be content. There is always something to want. There is always something to achieve. On the other hand, if there is always something to want, there is also always something to lose. In general, this poem seems to be saying that there will always be want, and that there will always be absence and loss. If there will always be absent and loss, then it is possible that absence and loss are major parts of life. Poem 870 demonstrates absence and loss as inevitable. The poem is obviously a reference to the Greek myth of Jason and the Argonauts. The lines Third, Expedition for / The Golden Fleece demonstrate this. In this myth Pelias agrees to surrender the throne of Iolkos to Jason if he brings him the Golden Fleece. It is a long dangerous journey, but Jason returns with the fleece. (Haskas) In the poem however, Dickinson is portraying the journey as a continual loss. After the initial gain there is loss after loss. • 13. The Unexamined Life Is A Life Not Worth Living What is happiness, and how can one achieve true happiness? This is the ultimate question of life and what every person is seeking an answer to. Many feel that they have found their answer in belonging to the faith of their choice, but what is it that their faith teaches them that brings them happiness? The Philosophers Socrates, Plato and Aristotle all have a similar view on what happiness is and how to achieve it. Aristotle s view is based on Plato s and Plato s is based on Socrates teachings; this is why they are similar but they are all important and different with each philosopher s personal views and beliefs. Socrates was a great man who was assassinated for his beliefs on the purpose of life and how to live happily. He presented the excellence of function to determine how a person will truly be happiest. The true person is not what he is on the out side but what his psyche or soul is and when that is functioning well the person is happiest. Psyche is the human capacity for reflective thinking and also the consciousness of the soul. The unexamined life is a life not worth living. This is a quote from Socrates that supports his views on psyche. It states that when a person does not examine his life to find his true self, or excellence of function, that they are ignoring their true self and that a false life is not worth the time to live it. So an examined life will find its true self or what its function is and want to perform its function well. The excellence of ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 14. Uses and Abuses of Carbonate Sequence Stratigraphy Uses and Abuses of Carbonate Sequence Stratigraphy Sequence Stratigraphy Sequence stratigraphy is a discipline studying the linkages within the chronostratigraphic framework of sequences which is bounded by unconformities and correlative conformities. It enables interpretation of sedimentary strata as products of relative sea level change. The sequence stratigraphy uses sub dividing surfaces to provide a framework to the interpretation of the depositional settings of the sedimentary section and uses the interpretation for further prediction of the extent and character of the component sedimentary facies. Sequence stratigraphy was originally designed for seismic sections, but the principles can be applied to outcrop, core, and well logs. It now provides a powerful method and is widely used in the petroleum exploration and prospects. The sequence is a relatively conformable succession of genetically related strata bounded at their upper surface and base by unconformities and their correlative conformities (Vail, et al., 1977). And it is composed of a succession of genetically linked deposition systems (systems tracts) and is interpreted to be deposited between eustatic fall inflection points (Posamentier, et al., 1988). The systems tracts are divided into Falling Stage Systems Tract/Forced Regressive Wedge Systems Tract (FSST/ FRWST), Lowstand Systems Tract (LST), Transgressive Systems Tract (TST) and Highstand Systems Tract (HST); and are bounded by surfaces which consist of ... Feminism by: Laura Capellán Feminism is the belief in political, economic and social equality of the sexes and is one of the leading conflicts in today s society. In the past years, women had faced many battles to fight and give these rights to women who have been deprived of their rights and privileges that were never given to them by men. I believe that every person is entitled to have equal opportunities in this world. Feminism has proven to slowly accomplishing this. Even if it meant hurting the people that you love. The Victorian Era came change. This caused conflicts between right and wrong for a women during this time. Feminism took a huge role in the roaring twenties that no one saw coming. For example a new woman was born , which I believe is huge part of the feminists movements, instigating many changes to the societies to come. Starting a different stereotype for women. Before the twenties, the typical women would be what people consider today to be stay at home mom . The women would stay home while the men worked; that meant cleaning, cooking, taking care of the kids, and doing whatever is necessary to please the standards of their husbands. Many women had carry the expectations that were held by their mothers. I disagree with the typical women during this time because I believe that a women should be independent without being tied down by a man. Recently, events such as the 2016 presidential election and changes such as decreases in people striving to lose weight and the obesity rate increasing have considerably affected the well being of the United States. These events and changes have directly affected the people of our country and will continue to affect our people until something has been done in addressing them. Less than a month ago, our country experienced one of the most opposed and protested elections in history. The day of the election and the day following it reported a very high 20% of Americans were in a bad mood(characterized by stress and worry without happiness), almost double the average amount (Davis). I think a lot of that has to do with the amount of discrimination that television and media in general puts on obesity and people that are overweight. There are numerous commercials running everyday about weight loss programs, diets, and medication to take to help lose the weight. Media can take a lot of the credit for the fact that over half of Americans are striving to lose weight. This is a fascinating examination of a small group communication, the transitive process of creating meaning with people who share a common purpose. Rose s story puts the American judicial system on trial and comments on prejudices that were socially revenant in the 1950 s. The interaction between twelve diverse jurors brought together to decide the fate of a young defendant in what appears as an open and shut trial has become an American classic and is considered a demonstration of our legal system. In the painting, you can see massive waves crashing into small ships. In the background, you can see Mt. I think that Katsushika Hokusai made the end of the wave with many curly lines to show how destructive the wave is and how big the wave actually is. The Taliban s promise to Afghanistan, Pakistan, and the surrounding area was to restore peace and security using their interpretation of the sharia law once they were in power ( Who Are the Taliban? ). Along with the many new policies and regulations of society, there arose a new interpretation of the role of women in society. • 38. Teaching And Coaching As A Philosophy A philosophy can be defined as a set of values and behaviours that serve to guide the actions of a coach (Wilcox and Trudel, 1998, p.41). By drawing from all facets of a person s life, each is specific to the learner and distinguishes teachers and coaches from one another. It can be consciously developed as the professional, teacher/coach and student within education is exposed to a practice as well as other life experiences. It is believed that clearly articulating one s philosophy is a prerequisite to good practice (Cassidy et al, 2008, p.55) throughout this essay I hope to reflect on my increasing knowledge foundation in teaching and coaching and how it has successfully developed and been applied to my philosophy as a coach. This is supported by the fact coaches work with fewer people and at a higher skill level does not negate the fact that they are engaged in teaching...skills, techniques and strategies ( Drewe, 2000, p.81) this coupled with the fact coaches tend to spend more time with athletes which means they too, also develop the fundamental domains of the athlete. For this reason I believe both roles are intertwined and provide basis for both to thrive from. In order to for me to be an affective coach I must take both concepts and make sure that I develop the child s ability as well as other factors. A way I have developed as a coach is by exploring philosophies of coaching and in particular three core philosophical concepts, values (axiology), morality (ethics), and meaning (ontology). The Body as a Site for Enquiry in Art and Fashion The body as a site for enquiry in art and fashion Introduction Dressing defines the outward arrangement of materials and objects in the body of human beings. Dressing does not only include clothing but also other accessories, makeup and hairstyle. Dressing is an important feature to humankind. Over the ages dressing has evolved to various designs and styles to meet the desires of man and trends. The basic reason for dressing/clothing is protection and warmth, although dressing functions to communicate our identities and cultures. Apart from the basic need of clothing, other purposes of dressing are beauty, modesty, ritual purposes and style. Dressing makes us look attractive and confident over a period. Cultural practices and beliefs define what a society view as modesty in dressing. Some cultures dressing does not require covering of the whole body and still people view it as a modest way of dressing. Other cultures view modes as covering most of the body parts when dressing. Dressing also specifies rituals and ceremony to express the outward meaning of the ceremony. Most people in societies today view dressing as a form of expressing a sense of fashion. Fashion is a way in which a certain accepted form of dressing transforms to meet the requirements of people, environment and trend. Fashion can be an art but art cannot be fashion. Guin uses green and gold the most to describe the city Omelas and its citizens. She also uses red, silver, white, and dark blue to help describe the city of Omelas. In The Ones Who Walk Away from Omelas gold is used as a symbol for power and wealth, while green is used as a symbol for energy. Specifically, situational judgment tests (SJTs) typically consist of scenarios of hypothetical work situations in which a problem has arisen. Accompanying each scenario are multiple possible ways to respond to the hypothetical situation. The test taker is then asked to judge the possible courses of action (L. A. L. de Meijer et al., 2010, p.229). In terms of the development of SJTs, the scenarios and situations are always gathered by the subject matter experts from specific job related critical incidents; and then subject matter experts would gather information in order to create the possible responses; finally, subject matter experts would develop the scoring keys for the SJTs (Crook et al., 2011). As much as we would like to believe that we are the only ones that have access to our phones there are ways for police to be able to tap our phone without our permission. This essay will examine court cases regarding text messages including the admissibility and inadmissibility of text messages as evidence in court, verification issues and also how to create fake conversations through text messages. Evidence of text messages are primarily used by prosecutors to discredit the defendant(s) even though prior discreditable conduct is generally inadmissible, however, exceptions are made (R v SM, 2012 [8]). In the case of R v SM, the judge concluded that the text messages are admissible evidence for two reasons, both on the basis that the messages provided direct evidence to the defendant s involvement in the crime. Therefore, the exception under the exclusionary rule applies because the evidence is highly relevant and cogent that its probative value in the search for truth outweighs any potential for misuse (R v SM, 2012 [6]).
