In my article about Sleep Deprivation Boosts Anticipatory Anxiety a correlation exists between sleep
deprivation and increased levels of anxiety. The research team at UC Berkeley suggests when
someone is sleep deprived and anticipating either a neutral or disturbing image to appear, activity in
the emotional brain centers increases, thus indicating an elevated level of anxiety. This correlation,
however, does not indicate causation. Causation would imply that sleep deprivation alone is what
causes elevated levels of anxiety. This could be false because increased activity in the emotional brain

Stanley Yelnats, the main character in the novel Holes by Louis Sachar was published in 1998.This
was among a number of children s books Sachar had written. Stanley changed in many ways while he
was away at Camp Green Lake. Stanley was sent to Camp Green Lake after being wrongly accused of
stealing a pair of sneakers. He had a big journey ahead of him that he didn t know was coming. Camp
Green Lake was 8 hours away by bus from where his family lived. It was isolated and hot there. It was
also very dry. Stanley changed during his time at Camp Green Lake, physically, emotionally and
mentally. Stanley was a stable, kind and caring teenager, but he unfortunately was bullied by lots of
people for his size. Camp Green Lake gave Stanley confidence and strength to make decisions for
himself and to not accept what everyone was saying as truth.
The most noticeable changes to Stanley were the physical changes. Before Stanley arrived at Camp
Green Lake, Stanley was overweight and was bullied constantly for it. His teacher, Mrs Bell, was once
talking about ratios and had compared his weight to another boy s weight who was much smaller. She
had written on the board the ratio 3:1, stating that Stanley had weighed three times more than the other
boy (Louis Sachar pg 7). The teacher hadn t realised how much she had hurt both of the boys feelings.
At Camp Green Lake Stanley had to dig holes every day and this made him physically strong as he
lost a couple of pounds in sweat the first day.

Shooting an Elephant is a short story written by George Orwell that takes place in Burma. In this short
story George Orwell writes about a life experience he had while he was a young police officer in
Burma. Orwell did not enjoy his time in Burma because of the lack of connections he was able to
make with people there. He did not agree with the way they ran things, didn t get along with the
people, and had a great amount of hatred for his job. On top of Orwell disliking all of this, the people
in Burma made it obvious to him that they did not appreciate him either. While Orwell was at a soccer
game, he was purposely tripped and instead of anyone showing sympathy for him, everyone yelled out
with laughter. Orwell was having a tough time adjusting and badly wanted to get out of Burma.
However he was patiently waiting for a big moment he could take advantage of and get the people of
Burma to gain a little respect for him. Then one day his opportunity came. The opportunity in front of
him was as big as he could imagine. While I was reading this story, I was very engaged and was
always wondering what was going to happen next. There were many parts of this short story that
people could connect to. For example, Orwell was having a tough time adjusting to his new culture. I
personally do not connect to that, but I know that many other people in this world are able to connect
with Orwell s tough time adjusting. If the reader is able to connect to a story/book on a personal level,
it makes it a lot more enjoyable (easier) to read. Connecting to a story keeps a reader very engaged to
the book and makes them want to keep reading to see how the author/character handles their situation.
There was one big event in this story that I and in my opinion just about everybody should be able to
connect too. Towards the end of the short story, Orwell was faced with a tough decision. Orwell was
having a normal day, dreading but getting through his job, and all of a sudden something happened.
He had gotten word that an elephant had been loose around town ruining everything in its path and
even killing one civilian. Orwell was the first to the scene and initially did not know how to react.

The differences between book and movie, we think that the story of four children who go to live with
an older man (a professor) in order to get away from the air raids that are occurring at home due to the
war. The film begins with Lucy telling the others about Narnia and the wardrobe, and the events in
Narnia with Mr. Tumnus are shown as a flashback. In the book, these events are shown before she tells
everyone about them. The characters of Mrs. Macready, Father Christmas and the Giant Rumblebuffin
are cut. (Peter, Susan, Edmund and Lucy appear to enter the wardrobe on their own, and Aslan gives
them their gifts when they reach the Stone Table. However, Father Christmas is mentioned, and the

I couldn t sleep and I wasn t going to be able to sleep. I was an insomniac despite my parents telling
me I just wanted to be up late at night. Please. No one wants to be awake at 4:30 in the morning. But I
tossed and turned anyway, trying desperately to get my body to rest. Eventually I decided to give up
and position myself on a chair facing my window. I tried to do this when I couldn t sleep because it
was peaceful outside and sometimes I relaxed so much I fell asleep. Other times I just watched the sun
rise. My window faced the backyard, a huge plot of land that housed a miniature forest of sorts. The
wind was blowing that night and the leaves on the tree shook gently, quietly. Every once in a while, I

of the leaves shot off the trees. So quickly I wasn t even sure I saw it. But there they sat, trees with
