The Character Development Of Bilbo, A Hobbit
The Classification of Fantasy among Other Genres handout from class defines a fantastical protagonist
to be a person of royal/noble blood of a magician of great power, but often an ordinary seeming
person with some unknown or special qualities (and) may also possess some sort of special weapon.
When we first meet Bilbo Baggins he is nothing more than a homely Hobbit. He does not possess any
powers nor he does he have special powers. But even in the first chapter, Gandalf knows what
qualities he possesses saying, If I say he is a Burglar, a Burglar he is, or will be when the time comes.
There is a lot more in him than you guess, and a deal more than he has any idea of himself. This
quotation is especially important foreshadowing the character development of Bilbo, and the
reoccurring theme of the heroism he shows. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Bilbo is to use his burglar skills to steal from the trolls. While Gandalf must prolong an argument until
the Trolls turn to stone to save Bilbo and the dwarves, Bilbo does accomplish his goal by picking up a
key to the trolls secret cave where he receives a sword he can use later on. The group is then captured,
this time by goblins. Gandalf again is the savior, but at this time Bilbo gets separated from the group.
This leads him to Gollum and the ring. Even though Gandalf saved the dwarves, outsmarting Gollum
and using the ring to escape from Gollum and the goblins, shows Bilbo has the skills to be a real hero.
Moving on, the dwarves then get captured by spiders after entering the forest. With Gandalf being
absent, Bilbo must take his rightful spot as the hero. He slays the spider and rescues the dwarves. It s
mentioned that Bilbo starts to feel different about himself. This shows he is growing and becoming
more self aware. AT this point he names his sword, as many strong heroes do with their

Three Key Characters Of Hawking In Ripper By Stefan Petrucha
In the novel Ripper by Stefan Petrucha a fourteen year old boy named Carver is adopted and is
mentored by a retired detective named Albert Hawking. This book focuses around Carver and how he
deals with being an orphan, as well as trying to be adopted before he gets thrown onto the streets by
Ellis like a bag of trash. The novel has many key events that drive the plot forward, but these can be
boiled down into three main events. The three events are when Carver becomes adopted by Mr.
Hawking and is mentored in the ways of a detective, when it is revealed to Carver who is father is and
what role he has played in his life throughout the novel, and the resolution of the novel when carver
receives the final note from his father that leaves some questions to be answered.
The first event starts the entire plot of the book, which is when Carver is adopted by Mr. Hawking.
This event sets into motion the rest of the novel as Carver is trained to become detective just as
Hawking did, and that sets up the antagonist of the novel Jack The Ripper. For Carver to be adopted
he had to prove his skills to Hawking through a series of puzzles designed by Hawking, as Carver is
struggling to solve the last test Hawking finds him and says, Boy, you ve come this far you can t just
back down now (Petrucha 32). Hawking s motivation drove Carver to solve the last puzzle revealing
the New Pinkerton agencies secret base of operation. Carver walks into the agency and remembers the

Analysis Of A Valediction Forbidding Mourning By John Donne
John Donne and his songs and sonnets were 19 different poems and songs. The one that stuck out and
was enjoyable to me was A Valediction: Forbidding Mourning . Donne wrote about a man that had to
go away. During the time it was written, Donne was supposed to be going to the Continent but there is
no proof of it. It is said that the poem is written for Donne s wife. It brings out the Romanticism of
that time and also the pain that comes with it. He finds a common marker between the two and
describes how nothing will be able to break them apart.
John Donne was known for being the one that started the use of metaphysical conceit. A metaphysical
conceit is when an analogy is used between one entity s spiritual qualities and an object in the physical
world and sometimes controls the whole structure of the poem. Donne does this throughout the whole
poem. He was called the founder of the Metaphysical Poets . The
Metaphysical Poets are known for their ability to startle the reader and coax new perspective through
paradoxical images, subtle argument, inventive syntax, and imagery from art, philosophy, and religion
using an extended metaphor known conceit (https://www.poets.org/poetsorg/poet/john donne). Donne
was a master of thinking outside of the box and combining like things that you would never think to
even use to make a simile
Donne begins the poem with As virtuous men pass mildly away, And whisper to their souls to go,
Whilst some of their sad friends do say, The breath

Total Hip Replacement
Total hip replacement or THR is a clinically effective procedure for the treatment of pain and
disability that arises due to the final stage arthritis of the hip. THR is prescribed for the patients who
do not respond to the options that are non surgical, self management, education of the patient, physical
therapy, acupuncture, and exercise. ( Pivec. et.al,2012). Numerous procedures , a range of implant
designs are available and it is the surgeon who has to decide upon as to which type of fixation
technique should be used and which bearing couple should be chosen, component fixation method.

St. Jude Research Paper
St. Jude is a leading children s hospital pioneering research and treatments for kids with cancer and
other life threatening diseases. Research efforts are directed at understanding the molecular, genetic
and chemical bases of catastrophic diseases in children; identifying cures for such diseases; and
promoting their prevention. Research is focused specifically on cancers, some acquired and inherited
immunodeficiencies, sickle cell disease, infectious diseases and genetic disorders. More than a half
century ago, entertainer Danny Thomas envisioned a hospital that would treat children regardless of
race, color, creed or their family s ability to pay. A facility where research would shine light into the
darkness. Thomas vision became a reality when St. Jude Children s ... Show more content on

ever since she was 3 years old, when she was found to suffer from ALL. Yamila, whose family lived in

recommended a bone marrow transplant and referred Yamila s family to St. Jude Children s Research
Hospital in Memphis, Tennessee. St. Jude invents more clinical trials than any other children s
hospital, which is why the world looks to St. Jude for new and better ways to treat childhood cancer.
At St. Jude, Yamila underwent the bone marrow transplant, with her brother serving as her donor. My

Learning Disability Nursing
A child s early years of life could be said to be one of the most physiological, psychological and
emotional susceptible stages of their development. It is at this stage that the effects of poverty on
issues such as, health, social well being, education, family life and housing conditions have an ever
lasting influence on the child. Problems during childhood cast long shadows into adulthood (Acheson
1999 p.34). The author will throughout the assignment touch on these issues, but in his estimation the
effect these issues and particularly education, have on children with disabilities especially learning

to communicate on a level of understanding for a person with a learning disability. Thus, important
health education messages are long forgotten by learning disability parents even before the their child
leaves the surgery or the professional leaves the home. It should be said in support of the health care
professionals that empowerment is of primary importance in their philosophy and advice
acknowledged can be either implemented or ignored but hopefully whilst the child is under the canopy
of the school medical services problems will be identified.
The cost of a healthy diet is a major consideration amongst low income affected families and even
more so where there is a disability present. A 1998 study showed that caring for a child with a severe
disability costs an estimated £7,355 a year, at least three times that of bringing up a child without a
disability (Dobson B and Middleton S 1998). Children from this social group are often given a less
healthy diet than their more affluent contemporaries due to the cost of the healthier food items. There
is considerable evidence that meals supplied by parents from low income families is not offered due to
lack of knowledge of an healthier diet, but mainly due to cost and the consideration of wastage.
Disability creates extra needs: the need for extra ... special food .... These extra needs incur extra costs
(Blackburn 1991). The consequences of an inadequate diet can have severe affects on the growth

An Article On Effective Technology Use
Our classroom text states that qualitative research is the collection, analysis, and interpretation of
comprehensive narrative and visual data to gain insights into a particular phenomenon of interest
(Gay, Mills, Airasian, 2012, p.7). Qualitative researchers strive to establish validity by eliciting a sense
of trustworthiness through neutrality and objectivity, addressing the stability of data, and fair and
impartial evaluation (Saldaña, 2013). Researchers favor this method due to its emphasis on observing
participants in their natural environment.
There are some in the research and education field that feel certain kinds of educational issues and
inquiries do not lend themselves to methods that employ numerical analysis and try to control
variables in very complex and controlled environments. Qualitative researchers on the other hand state
that findings should be resultant upon research done in real world settings in order to have application
in real world settings (Gay, Mills, Airasian, 2012). Research Topic and Purpose
Topic
The topic of this article explores effective technology use in the classroom and allowing teachers to
self question and unravel their own technology issues. Teachers are in essence the researchers as well
as participants. The author supports the use of technology in the classroom and he states that the use of
technology is a defining characteristic of twenty first century education and should be required

The Day Of The Future
Like any other person, Zaid lived his childhood day by day. He has never thought of the future
because that is how a kid is; they live life in the present and only the present. As time passed, nothing
changed; he reached his teenage years and still nothing new, just living every day and waiting for
tomorrow with no expectations or assumptions. In this period of age, all of his friends had already set
goals and planned their futures, each friend with a different dream. Yet that was not for him, he was
really satisfied with living for each day and never looking towards the future.
One day, just like any other regular day; he sat down with his father and they started talking. It is a
usual thing that he does a lot, so they talked about his day and how it went just as usual. One thing that
had changed at that time was that his father shifted the course of their conversation and started to talk
with a serious tone that Zaid never had heard from his father before, so he was shocked little bit. His
father sounded like he wanted to open zaid s eyes to something. He asked him, Son, what are your
expectations for your life? . Zaid was not sure why he asked him that. Maybe because of his brother
that was constantly talking about how he wants to be a lawyer or his sister mentioning that she wants
to open her own company. Zaid was the only one who never opened a conversation about the future
with his father. All he knows is that he answered him with the biggest an innocent smile on his

As a result, fellowship, prayer, Bible study, worship, and most importantly salvation in its purest form
can be discerned and acted upon correctly. In addition, a further understanding can be thus gained
regarding the person of Jesus Christ and the Holy Spirit. Finally, heresies and heretical groups or
beliefs can lead God s followers astray from the truth and create an improper understanding, and thus
relationship with God. Positions past and present have, and are, attempting to mislead Christians about
the Trinity. A skewed view of the Trinity can result in a view of God as either divinely apart from
creation or simply a better version of all the best attributes of humans. Some positions even take away
from the Divinity of Jesus Christ. All of these views severely diminish who God is and alters a proper
and true relationship and worship. It is a necessity that these errant views be exposed as a hindrance to
God in order not to mislead God s followers. Likewise a Biblically sound explanation of the Trinity is
needed. As a result, a true and pure knowledge of the concept of the Trinity is crucially needed to
understand God and be obedient to the Bible.
Theology of the Trinity
Judaism as well as its offshoot and formation into the Christian religion both place great emphasis on
the notion of their monotheistic God as revealed in the early scriptures. To them God has revealed
Himself as the one Lord of all. Evident in the first Commandment that was

Isis Are A Bunch Of Muslims Just Because
If you think ISIS are a bunch of Muslims just because they claim to be Muslims and have a load of
gibberish written on their flags then you are being fooled. And maybe you ll live in that misconception
forever. And I don t blame you. Anyone would think ISIS are Muslim by what you are shown and are
driven to see by the media. At first, even I thought for a moment that ISIS are Muslims. The fact that
they walk down the streets with their pride, holding flags with Allah printed on. And when they
deliver their speech on those pathetic leaked videos stating Allah commands them to do this. We
should give them a round of applause for the characters they play.
First, of all, let me start off by telling you some of the facts that you might be familiar with. A number
of journalist from over Syria have reported that more Muslims are being killed by these so called
Muslims . In countries like Syria and Iraq, not only Muslims are suffering, but also non religious
people. So why is it that they are killing their own people if they claim to be people of Allah?
According to a report released by the United Nations, approximately 9,347 civilians in Iraq in the first
eight months of 2014 were killed by this group of terrorists. Furthermore, as we all know about the
Paris attack and as the death of 130 people was confirmed according to CNN (Cable News Network)
with hundreds being injured, even then it was confirmed that far more Muslims were killed than any
other ethnicity group.

The Trajan s Column Out Of Stone
There were many different types of sculptures that were used in the past and it is still used today.
Some of these types include marble, stone, and bronze sculptures. Many ancient civilizations built
famous monuments, buildings, and temples out of those three materials and some of them still stand
today. The first sculpture type is marble. Marble is limestone turned to a metamorphic rock by
applying heat, compression, and pressure. The Roman Empire and Classical and Hellenistic Greece
both used marble sculptures. It was formed in Rome because many artists built and carved statues of
very famous and powerful people during their time. The statues were to show the importance of the

Many civilizations used it for construction and it was found pretty much anywhere; there are many
different types and colors of stones. To make sculptures out of stone, it would have to be stacked,
chiseled, and incised carefully. The Roman Empire and Classical and Hellenistic Greece both used
stone sculptures. Rome constructed the Trajan s Column out of stone. It is famous for the very detailed
carvings around the 35 meter column which was carved one section at a time. This was built to
celebrate the victory of two wars led by Emperor Trajan. Bronze sculptures were made of copper,
zinc, and tin. It is a metal first discovered from bronze tools and weapons. The Yayoi period used
bronze and iron in their daily life; bronze was used for swords and bells and iron was used for tools,
weapons, and farming implements. The two major symbols of this culture was the bronze mirror and
sword. Bronze bells called dotaku were thin and long and they were used for decorations and rituals.
Three types of sculptures used in the Roman Empire, Classical and Hellenistic Greece, and the Yayoi
period were marble, stone, and bronze. Everything they sculpted was important and it was part of their
culture and ritual. Art shows their appreciation towards the heroes, gods, and goddesses. What they

Essay The Biology of Prayer and Healing
The Biology of Prayer and Healing
When we set ourselves to the work of collecting or re collecting the scattered pieces of ourselves, we
begin a task which, if carried to its natural conclusions, ultimately becomes prayer.
Skepticism
Science and Faith: Freud, one of the most well respected researchers of the human experience, claims
that religion is a universal neurosis that civilization substitutes for a more authentic personal reality
based on scientific knowledge (Jones and Butman, 1991, 77). Thus, to presume that illness and
healing have anything to do with spirituality is absurd.
Testability: Prayer and faith have no universal method of testing. Nor can it be proven that prayer is
effective, for who can ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
For all intents and purposes, prayer in this discussion simply means a non local language that says
something about who we are and where our destiny may be (Dossey, 1993, 6).
Prayer Treatment: the practice of people praying for someone else. This does not imply medical or
surgical treatments may not also be prescribed.
Research
The first accepted study correlating prayer to physical health was Collipp (1969), who followed
eighteen terminally ill children. Ten were selected to be prayed for by Protestant Christians, while the
other eight had no known prayer for their healing. The people praying only knew the names, genders,
and basic conditions of those for whom they were praying. Neither the children, nor their families, nor
the doctors were informed of the prayer treatment. After fifteen months, seven of the ten children
receiving prayer treatment were alive, while only two of the eight not receiving treatment survived.
Byrd (1988) retested Collipp s findings with a larger sample. 393 patients in the coronary care unit
were assigned to two groups, one to receive daily prayer treatment from born again Christian
intercessors along with normal treatment and one to receive the normal treatment alone. After ten
months, twenty one of twenty six medical measures of health were better in the patients who received
prayer treatments (Byrd 1988) including only three

Hawaii s High Cost Of Living
Over the last four weeks, we have learned about Hawaii s Economic Outlook. We look a look at the

week, we focused on different factors that caused Hawaii s economic ups and downs thought Hawaii s
history. The third week we, learned about Hawaii s economical structure, which focused on
diversification in Hawaii s economy. The fourth week we talked about price, inflation and costs of
living in Hawaii. During this week we learned about different factors that causes Hawaii s high cost of

reason why I wanted to explore this topic more into detail is because I ve living in Hawaii my whole

Personal Statement On Animals Having Feelings
I am in total agreement with your statement on animals having feelings. They should also receive the
same level of respect as humans. In addition, some of your points are dear to me mainly referring to
how animals display affection. Regan (1985) states, someone might say that your dog doesn t feel
anything and so isn t hurt by your neighbour s kick, doesn t care about the pain since none is felt, is as
unaware of anything (p. 2). This statement would be untrue in my eyes because dogs or animals can
feel pain on so many levels. A perfect example is that we have a Jack Russell Terrier. He at times acts
like a human. When he was a puppy, we took the time to train him. Our dog not only learned the most
common tricks, but he was also smart enough

Holy Grail Supernatural
The grail is a mystery kept at the centre of Arthurian myth, for it s transcendence signifies a
supernatural glory worth seeking. Chretien de Troyes esoteric representation of the grail invites only
those initiated to discover it s secrets of the supernatural within the tale. In this essay, I will examine
how the representation of the supernatural in Chretien de Troyes The Story of the Grail and Wolfram

How Did Confucianism Lead To The Decline Of The Ming Dynasty
Qing made slight changes to Ming culture when they conquered China in 1644. Allowing for more

To stay united as one the Qing Dynasty adopted the Ming Dynasty political system in order for them
to stay strong. Although they adopted the Ming government platform they still made slight changes in
the government that would suit their dynasty. The Ming dynasty ran by Emperor Hongwu, who made
the government very political active by scholars. Who aided rulers to become emperors. Also making

Confucianism originated from Kong Fuzi a Chinese philosopher around 551 479 BCE. It was practice

Essay on William Morris
William Morris
William Morris (1834 1896) was perhaps the most important British decorative artist of the 19th
century. A prolific designer, craftsman and decorator, his work and ideas have had a major influence
on the development of modern interior design.
William Morris was one of the most influential figures in the
Victorian and Edwardian art world. As a young man at Oxford he became involved with the Pre
Raphaelite movements, mixing with such artists as Dante Gabriel Rossetti, William Holman Hunt and
Edward Coley
Burne Jones.
Always a man of innovation, Morris soon tired of the subject matter and philosophy of the Pre
Raphaelites. His desire for social reform was also an important factor in his artistic growth and he

Instead of using a genuine shade of indigo, the design was printed in a Prussian blue, the nearest to
indigo that could be achieved using modern aniline dyes. This led William Morris to speak out against
the capitalist forces, which he considered had brought his industry to a very bad state. Henceforward
there is an absolute divorce between the commercial process and the art of printing. Anyone wanting
to produce dyed textiles with any artistic quality in them must entirely forego the modern and
commercial methods in favour of those which are at least as old as Pliny...
In other words, William Morris ended his connection with Clarkson (who printed the design) and
abandoned production of Tulip and Willow. He also set up a tiny dye house in the basement and
scullery of his house in Queen Square, hoping that he might find his own solution to the problem. In
fact it was only in 1883, after he had established himself at Merton Abbey, that he was finally able to
produce a satisfactory printing of Tulip and Willow.
Preliminary Design
Morris s intricate flower patterns, which seem so effortless and casual in their final form, were
achieved after long hours of patient designing and the production of dozens of different designs. This
preliminary stage was important, as Morris recognised. In a lecture called Making the Best of It ,
delivered in 1879, he offered these words of advice to potential designers: no amount of

depression is, how depression effects males and females, and offer insight into how yoga can be a
form of treatment for depression. According to the 2013 research of Holger Cramer, Romy Lauche,
Jost Langhorst, and Gustav Dobos, depression has formerly been described as reflecting a primary
disorder of biomedical and neurophysiological functions with evidence that alterations certain
neurotransmitters including noradrenaline, serotonin, dopamine, and GABA play a major role in the
pathophysiology of depression (Cramer, et., 2013). Additional research regarding yoga practice and
increased levels of dopamine, GABA and serotonin is widely available. The balancing of these
neurotransmitters is widely suggested as essential to depression treatment by many researchers and
clinical therapeutic practitioners today. According to the National Institute of Mental Health,
depression is a serious but common illness that interferes with daily life and causes pain for you and
the your loved ones (National Institute of Mental Health, 2015). Depression affects males and females;
however, females are more likely to be diagnosed with depression at any given year. Mental health
problems such as depression, anxiety and insomnia are amongst the most common reasons for
individuals to seek out treatment

Theories And Ideas In Bowenian Therapy
As a Christian studying the nature of people, thoughts, and behaviors, it is inevitable for personal faith
to strongly intertwine with the principles, theories, and ideas psychology presents. An important piece
for understanding individuals is found in examining their family dynamics, coping skills, and family
patterns. Bowenian therapy embodies how humans predictably function in relationships. Similar to the
Bible and its instructions, which advises people how to conduct one s self in fellowship and kinship
with others. However, the Bible does not entirely explain how people are emotionally affected by the
fallen human relationship (Brown, n.d.). The Bible provides evidence of the ultimate cause of
disharmony and Bowen s theory provides a thorough explanation of emotional and relationship ...

This could be possible from transgenerational issues, or imposition from a family s projection process.
The Bible tells us that the sins of a grandfather will affect his children, and their children, if ties and
curses are not broken (Exodus 20:5, NIV). Numbers 14:18 gives a clear account of Bowen s
assumptions when it says, The Lord is slow to anger and abounding in steadfast love, forgiving
iniquity and transgression, but he will by no means clear the guilty, visiting the iniquity of the fathers
on the children, to the third and the fourth generation (Numbers 14:18, ESV). However, since Christ
redeemed the sins of man by dying for our sins, The son shall not suffer for the iniquity of the father,
nor the father suffer for the iniquity of the son. The righteousness of the righteous shall be upon
himself, and the wickedness of the wicked shall be upon himself (Ezekiel 18:20, ESV). God basically
explained that He does not want to punish those who come from disharmonized families, but He wants
to save if individuals will turn away from

Disparities In The Disturbing Labor Market
From 1950 to 2018, there are very little changes in the disturbing labor market, in fact, today trends
have stopped flowing and the wage gap between races may be the most disheartening. Moreover, the

Americans were encouraged by the steady and significant economic progress, including for Blacks. In
1950, many big factories just start up and need workers So, many African American were offered the

Comparing The Turtles In John Steinbeck s The Grapes Of Wrath
In John Steinbeck s novel The Grapes of Wrath he devoted a whole chapter about a turtle crossing the
road, but it was not just a filler, it had a deeper meaning to it. The chapter told of a turtle that had to
cross a highway and along the way it encounters a few hardships. The real reason Steinbeck added the
turtle was to have it symbolize the Joad s journey from Oklahoma to California. During the Joad s trip
to the west coast they definitely had their fair share of bumps in the road, just like the turtle
experienced while crossing the road. Despite all of the obstacles faced by both the Joad s and the
turtle, they both managed to make it to their destination and achieve their goal. The turtle is a symbol

At the end of the chapter, the turtle was able to reach the other side, but it was not easy. The turtle

side and eventually the turtle accomplished its goal. The old humorous eyes looked ahead, and the
horny beak opened a little, (Steinbeck 22). This was just after the turtle finished crossing the road, and
it was looking ahead ready to conquer any more challenges that would be thrown at it later. Just like
the turtle, the Joad s also managed achieve their objective by reaching California. For the Joad family

The Dynamics of Brice Family
Brice Family Dynamics
Presenting Problems Overall, the Brice family has some clear issues that are causing stress for
everyone, including their adolescent daughter Claudia. The family did not believe in the power of
family therapy, yet they had little places to turn to in response to Claudia s growing anger problems.
They had tried therapy before, but to no avail. We are introduced to their problems both from a
description of the anger between each other and their own explanations of what is going on. Their son
Don is absent, both literally and figuratively, showing how he tends to avoid the overall family
struggles. Claudia s role in the family dynamic was described early on by her mother, yet this
explanation was done in a very isolating way for Claudia. Her mother explained her strange ideas, but
that only invoked a strong and angry reaction from Claudia herself. In fact, the two seemed to feed off
one another in terms of their anger. It is clear that the main issues were a discrepancy between what
Claudia wanted her life to be like and the heightened rules and expectations her family was imposing
on her. Mother and daughter continuously engaged in fighting, clearly not seeing each others point of
view, but too caught up in their own emotional reactions regarding the situation. The fact that Don
wasn t present just put more highlight on Claudia, and showed how the family viewed her as the
problem, not taking responsibility for it themselves. This was felt by

The Many Personalities of Lolita and Humbert in Nabokov s Lolita
Although they are intimately involved, the title character of Nabokov s Lolita never fully reveals her
true self to Humbert. Likewise, Humbert pours his physical love into Lolita, but he never reveals to
his stepdaughter a self that is separate from his obsession with her. These two characters mask large
parts of their personalities from each other and the rest of the world, creating different images and
personas in regard to different people and situations. One assumption of post structuralism holds that
persons are culturally and discursively structured, created in interaction as situated, symbolic beings.

In other words, a person is formed only by their communication and interactions with other people,
and there is no concrete self, but many rambling and incoherent identities. This assumption has three
main ideas, but only two of which will be mentioned here.
The first idea is that subjects are created through their cultural meanings and practices and that they
hold many different culturally based sites of meaning that each contain a different configuration of the
self, and that also contain all the personal and societal characteristics that go along with each self (Lye

true for a certain extent in speaking of Humbert and Lolita s separate personas that emerge in different
situations. They show different identities to the public, to each other, and to themselves.
Humbert s various faces are quite different from each other. He is seen as a suave, sophisticated,
handsome man to the public, and to even his wife, Charlotte, who describes him as having a dark,
romantic, European way (68). His old world reticence and sense of decorum dominate the image of a
refined man that the people of American see in him (68). He is viewed as a devoted husband and

Development of Silicon Valley
Introduction
Until the middle of the century, the region of Northern California we call Silicon Valley, was known as
the Valley of Heart s Delight. At that time it was better known for its apricots and walnuts than for its
cutting edge technology. The first time the term Silicon Valley was used, was in 1971 when a
journalist wrote a couple of articles in Electronic News, a weekly electronic industry tabloid, about the
semiconductor industry around Palo Alto, California. Silicon Valley has since then transformed into a
region filled with high tech industry leaders who are constantly developing the most cutting edge
technology. The world we live in now is filled with electronics, computers, and high speed internet

The Stanford Research Institute was a West Coast center of innovation to support economic
development in the region (Gromov). The great innovations in electronics eventually led to the
invention of the world s first digital computer in 1953. In 1955 Stanford graduate student Dr. William
Shockley founded a company called Shockley Transistor. He had developed a transistor based on the
principle of amplifying an electrical current using a solid semi conducting material, which was a
suitable alternative for the devices used up to then. The concept was based on the fact that it is
possible to selectively control the flow of electricity through silicon. The resultant discoveries
combined to form the basic concept behind the compact electrical transfer resistor , the transistor, that
was to power the coming High Tech Revolution.
The High Tech Revolution
The High Tech Revolution began when companies were able to use the micro sized transistors made
exclusively in silicon when integrating large numbers of integrated circuits, which are an essential part
of electronics. With the help of these transistors, the companies using them were able to rapidly join
the California electronics industry. Companies such as Intel, Signetics (now Philips Semiconductors),
National Semiconductors and AMD, were among the first in Silicon Valley to use this new technology.
They became the core of the semiconductor industry in Silicon Valley.

Hamlet Ghost Is Real Essay
Maybe he s real and maybe he s not, either way, the ghost certainly seems real to Hamlet. Throughout
Hamlet, both the reader and young Hamlet are in a dilemma as to whether or not the ghost of Hamlet s
father is a spirit sent to tempt and destroy Hamlet or if it is truly his father who has come to reveal the
tragedy of his death so that revenge can be sought. On the one hand, it is rather easy to believe that the
general Shakespearian attitudes and assumptions about apparitions are correct, that they are spirits
sent from hell to tempt and wreak havoc on the living. On the other hand, however, the reader, like
Hamlet, cannot help but feel compelled to listen to the ghost s tale about his death and his lack of
peace. Because of the verbal power ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
So It is clearly possible that the ghost as a father might just be a figment of Hamlet s imagination, as
Hamlet is also the only one who has a dialogue with the ghost and he s the only one who sees or hears
it when the ghost shows up, for instance, in Gertrude s chamber to remind Hamlet to be nice to his
mom. Even before Hamlet finds out that the ghost has been appearing on the castle walls, he says to
Horatio My father methinks I see my father [...] in my mind s eye Has Hamlet been imagining his
conversations with the ghost the whole time? Creating the ghost out of his wild imagination could be
Hamlet s way of dealing with the loss of the father he loved and idolized. Regardless of whether or not
the ghost actually exists though, the spirit perhaps represents the way young Hamlet is haunted by his
father s memory. Even though Claudius insists Hamlet s deep grief is unmanly and Gertrude pushes
Hamlet constantly to just move one, the prince just mentally and emotionally

Historical Accuracy Of Henry Iv Plays By Shakespeare
Name Instructor Course Date Historical Accuracy in Henry IV Plays by Shakespeare Research shows
that Shakespeare s historical plays do not offer good sources for accurate rendering of historical
events. The details of place of issues such as place, time, and personality are all subject to a great deal
of artistic license just as most of modern Hollywood movies about the past. However, to some extent,
Shakespeare did research his materials. Close analysis of his famous works and plays indicate that
Henry IV draws upon a surprising range of disparate sources[CITATION Jam991 p 4 l 1033 ]. One of
the most obvious sources for Henry IV plays is Chronicles of England, Scotland, and Ireland by
Raphael Holinshed, the 1587 edition. Holinshed style of history focuses on personalities and
motivations of important historical figures as well as much detail regarding Henry s IV tussle with
Percy. Another important source used by Shakespeare in historical plays was The Civil Wars between
the Two Houses of Lancaster and York by Samuel Daniel. The poems written by Daniel differ greatly
from that of Holinshed particularly on the emphasis on the Princes of Wales and the rivalry he had
with Hotspur. Shakespeare followed and used Daniel in portraying Hotspur as a much younger person
at the period of rebellion though history shows that he was older than King Henry IV was. Both
Daniel and Shakespeare use the battle of Shrewsbury as an occasion for the prince to prove his valor

How Did Justinian Influence Architecture
Justinian Justinian I was a ruler in the Byzantine Empire from 527 to 565 CE. When he first came into
power Justinian I was not favored by the overall population. Procopius, a scholar and historian in the
6th century, described Justinian as a man both an evil doer and easily led into evil, the sort of a person
whom they call a moral pervert, never of his own accord speaking the truth to those with whom he
conversed, but having a deceitful and crafty intent behind every word and action. Also the Nika Riots
were revolts against Justinian s rule that took place in Constantinople over the span of a week. This
resulted in the death of thirty thousand people. But despite the early animosity towards Justinian s
reign it is clear that Justinian brought prosperity to the Byzantine Empire during and after his rule.

Justinian sought to rebuild the former glory of the Roman Empire and he started after the Nika Riots
in 532. Since most of Constantinople was burnt down during the riots Justinian decided to rebuild the
capital into a much more magnificent city and it all started with the reconstruction of the Hagia
Sophia. The Hagia Sophia was the most prominent church in the Roman Empire and Justinian had the
church designed by architects Isidore of Miletus and Anthemius of Tralles. The church has a massive
dome ceiling which was a huge feat for construction builders during the post classical age. There were
40 windows which helped to bring in light and illuminate the many mosaics inside the church. The
mosaics were icons popular to the Eastern Orthodox faith such as Christ, angels and crosses. The

At this point I hope you re starting to see that cannabis isn t nearly half as bad as everybody makes it

cannabis is 100% natural. The only possible way to over dose is if you consume close to ¾ of a ton

A lot of people see cannabis as a gateway drug. As I work with drug affected people on a daily basis

Essay about Angel of Death Dr.Josef Mengele
During world war two, the holocaust affected millions of lives, especially those of the twins and the
children at Auschwitz, who were brutally experimented on with no pan management while under the
supervision of Dr. Joseph Mengele. Many died and the rest lived the rest of their lives with severe
medical problems. Dr. Mengele was not a simple creature though. The creation of the Nazi angel of
death began as a child in a cold distant family, and gradually evolved with his enrolling into college,
joining of his political party and the military. Both of which were vital for his desire to perform his
twisted experiments. Experiments that were so cruel and brutal he was forced to flee Germany after

that occurred in the second great war. Some of the tests were fairly run of the mill, questionnaires, and
height and weight measurements. Standard procedure for any doctor but the worst was yet to come.
Mengele was known for many of his experiments. Just a few of his favorites were those which
involved eye color, resistance to disease and live human dissection. Mengele would find pair of twins
which he believed was suitable for his desired experiment. (Lagnado amp; Dekel). The eyes for
example one twin would be a control for the experiment. The other would have a colored dye injected

nasty infections or complete blindness. Others involved live human dissection of infants and very
young children. He carried out twin to twin transfusions, stitched twins together, castrated or sterilized

Comparing Hamlet And Tennant s Hamlet
Ophelia s Madness In Branagh s Hamlet and Tennant s Hamlet
The play Hamlet, by William Shakespeare, is the second most filmed play in the world after
Cinderella ( Hamlet: The Facts ). Many people have attempted to re create the Shakespearian tragedy
on screen but few have been able to do successfully. The extent of Ophelia s madness is controversial,
and is often portrayed differently in every movie. The 2009 David Tennant version of Hamlet and the
1996 Kenneth Branagh version of Hamlet are two movies that both share similarities and have
differences in the use of actors, setting, and costumes to emphasize Ophelia s madness.
The selection of actresses based on acting techniques made an impact in the way Ophelia s madness
was expressed. In the Tennant film, Mariah Gale was selected to play Ophelia. Gale s mixture of
cheeriness and despair brought an eerie feeling to her mad scenes, allowing the viewer to decide the
extent of her madness. Her singing sounded delirious and frantic, this effectively created a broken

The Tennant film uses a modern black room with a shatter mirror for Ophelia s confrontation with
Claudius and Gertrude in Act four, Scene five. This causes the mood of the scene to be dark, and the

contrasts with Ophelia s white dress and makes her the center of attention for the viewers. The
Branagh version uses a checkered ballroom for Ophelia s first appearance as a madwoman in Act 4,
Scene 5. The room does not set a particular mood for the scene. Unlike the Tennant version, the
Branagh movie includes scenes with a distressed Ophelia being held in a padded asylum, and also a
scene of her drowning in clear water. In this case, the setting directly tells the audience that Ophelia is
insane, but in the Tennant version the mysterious room give the audience an opportunity

How Does T. S. Eliot s Influence On Society
Literature possesses the capability to vastly influence the world, and those who find a way to impact
literature drive the powerful influence. Few people in the history of literature publicized as many
thoughts and critical views as T.S. Eliot, and by disseminating his opinions throughout the literature
world, Eliot found a way to communicate new perspectives and tastes in literature (Worthen). Born in
the fall of 1888, T.S. Eliot grew up to become one of the most influential poets of all time, as he found

Beyond the poetry he wrote, Eliot drove the world to modernist views through essays and other means
of literature. Containing stories, news, and opinions of both T.S. Eliot and others who wrote about
him, The Letters of T.S. Eliot offer an inside perspective on Eliot s life (Eliot and Haffenden). In
Volume 1 of the revised edition of the letters Patrick Query describes how T.S. Eliot felt so much
passion for culture and how it must improve (Letters, Volume 1). In the volume, the writer states Eliot
started a movement to modernize literature all on his own. Eliot contained such a strong passion for
making the world a better place, that as society generally acted apathetically towards life, Eliot strived
for a culture where people actually inserted energy and passion into life (Poetry Foundation). Also, in
John Worthen s biography of T.S. Eliot, the author believes Eliot focused the entire masterpiece of
Four Quartets on illustrating to his audience despite painful times in life, people must focus more on
the beauty of life (Worthen). After addressing the aspects of society he believed needed to improve,
Eliot wrote several poems on each topic which showed the beauty of his opinion and a more joyful
culture. The Waste Land helps describe how to improve the war stricken world, and other poems such
as Four Quartets and The Sacred Wood deal with other cultural characteristics Eliot strived to
improve. Devoting much of his literature career to impacting

Population. (BBC News) That is a tremendous amount of people. The Pope rules over all of those
people in the organization known as The Catholic Church. Becoming Pope is no simple task by any
means. Even when it seems that someone is very close to becoming the next Pope, the percentage of
them actually becoming Pope is very slim. In fact, just the odds of becoming Pope of someone is a
cardinal is less then one percent, and you must become a cardinal to be elected Pope. The odds are not
in anybody favor as they are 1,000 to 1(Kristi Barlette, Times Union, 12 Feb, 2013). Although. There
are few steps to becoming Pope; each step is a long, difficult practice. First, a person must be a male

  • 2. The Character Development Of Bilbo, A Hobbit The Classification of Fantasy among Other Genres handout from class defines a fantastical protagonist to be a person of royal/noble blood of a magician of great power, but often an ordinary seeming person with some unknown or special qualities (and) may also possess some sort of special weapon. When we first meet Bilbo Baggins he is nothing more than a homely Hobbit. He does not possess any powers nor he does he have special powers. But even in the first chapter, Gandalf knows what qualities he possesses saying, If I say he is a Burglar, a Burglar he is, or will be when the time comes. There is a lot more in him than you guess, and a deal more than he has any idea of himself. This quotation is especially important foreshadowing the character development of Bilbo, and the reoccurring theme of the heroism he shows. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Bilbo is to use his burglar skills to steal from the trolls. While Gandalf must prolong an argument until the Trolls turn to stone to save Bilbo and the dwarves, Bilbo does accomplish his goal by picking up a key to the trolls secret cave where he receives a sword he can use later on. The group is then captured, this time by goblins. Gandalf again is the savior, but at this time Bilbo gets separated from the group. This leads him to Gollum and the ring. Even though Gandalf saved the dwarves, outsmarting Gollum and using the ring to escape from Gollum and the goblins, shows Bilbo has the skills to be a real hero. Moving on, the dwarves then get captured by spiders after entering the forest. With Gandalf being absent, Bilbo must take his rightful spot as the hero. He slays the spider and rescues the dwarves. It s mentioned that Bilbo starts to feel different about himself. This shows he is growing and becoming more self aware. AT this point he names his sword, as many strong heroes do with their ... • 3. Three Key Characters Of Hawking In Ripper By Stefan Petrucha In the novel Ripper by Stefan Petrucha a fourteen year old boy named Carver is adopted and is mentored by a retired detective named Albert Hawking. This book focuses around Carver and how he deals with being an orphan, as well as trying to be adopted before he gets thrown onto the streets by Ellis like a bag of trash. The novel has many key events that drive the plot forward, but these can be boiled down into three main events. The three events are when Carver becomes adopted by Mr. Hawking and is mentored in the ways of a detective, when it is revealed to Carver who is father is and what role he has played in his life throughout the novel, and the resolution of the novel when carver receives the final note from his father that leaves some questions to be answered. The first event starts the entire plot of the book, which is when Carver is adopted by Mr. Hawking. This event sets into motion the rest of the novel as Carver is trained to become detective just as Hawking did, and that sets up the antagonist of the novel Jack The Ripper. For Carver to be adopted he had to prove his skills to Hawking through a series of puzzles designed by Hawking, as Carver is struggling to solve the last test Hawking finds him and says, Boy, you ve come this far you can t just back down now (Petrucha 32). Hawking s motivation drove Carver to solve the last puzzle revealing the New Pinkerton agencies secret base of operation. Carver walks into the agency and remembers the letter his ... • 4. Analysis Of A Valediction Forbidding Mourning By John Donne John Donne and his songs and sonnets were 19 different poems and songs. The one that stuck out and was enjoyable to me was A Valediction: Forbidding Mourning . Donne wrote about a man that had to go away. During the time it was written, Donne was supposed to be going to the Continent but there is no proof of it. It is said that the poem is written for Donne s wife. It brings out the Romanticism of that time and also the pain that comes with it. He finds a common marker between the two and describes how nothing will be able to break them apart. John Donne was known for being the one that started the use of metaphysical conceit. A metaphysical conceit is when an analogy is used between one entity s spiritual qualities and an object in the physical world and sometimes controls the whole structure of the poem. Donne does this throughout the whole poem. He was called the founder of the Metaphysical Poets . The Metaphysical Poets are known for their ability to startle the reader and coax new perspective through paradoxical images, subtle argument, inventive syntax, and imagery from art, philosophy, and religion using an extended metaphor known conceit (https://www.poets.org/poetsorg/poet/john donne). Donne was a master of thinking outside of the box and combining like things that you would never think to even use to make a simile Donne begins the poem with As virtuous men pass mildly away, And whisper to their souls to go, Whilst some of their sad friends do say, The breath ... He has never thought of the future because that is how a kid is; they live life in the present and only the present. As time passed, nothing changed; he reached his teenage years and still nothing new, just living every day and waiting for tomorrow with no expectations or assumptions. In this period of age, all of his friends had already set goals and planned their futures, each friend with a different dream. One day, just like any other regular day; he sat down with his father and they started talking. It is a usual thing that he does a lot, so they talked about his day and how it went just as usual. One thing that had changed at that time was that his father shifted the course of their conversation and started to talk with a serious tone that Zaid never had heard from his father before, so he was shocked little bit. His father sounded like he wanted to open zaid s eyes to something. He asked him, Son, what are your expectations for your life? . Zaid was not sure why he asked him that. Maybe because of his brother that was constantly talking about how he wants to be a lawyer or his sister mentioning that she wants to open her own company. In 1955 Stanford graduate student Dr. William Shockley founded a company called Shockley Transistor. He had developed a transistor based on the principle of amplifying an electrical current using a solid semi conducting material, which was a suitable alternative for the devices used up to then. The concept was based on the fact that it is possible to selectively control the flow of electricity through silicon. The resultant discoveries combined to form the basic concept behind the compact electrical transfer resistor , the transistor, that was to power the coming High Tech Revolution. The High Tech Revolution The High Tech Revolution began when companies were able to use the micro sized transistors made exclusively in silicon when integrating large numbers of integrated circuits, which are an essential part of electronics. With the help of these transistors, the companies using them were able to rapidly join the California electronics industry. Companies such as Intel, Signetics (now Philips Semiconductors), National Semiconductors and AMD, were among the first in Silicon Valley to use this new technology. They became the core of the semiconductor industry in Silicon Valley. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 32. Hamlet Ghost Is Real Essay Maybe he s real and maybe he s not, either way, the ghost certainly seems real to Hamlet. Throughout Hamlet, both the reader and young Hamlet are in a dilemma as to whether or not the ghost of Hamlet s father is a spirit sent to tempt and destroy Hamlet or if it is truly his father who has come to reveal the tragedy of his death so that revenge can be sought. On the one hand, it is rather easy to believe that the general Shakespearian attitudes and assumptions about apparitions are correct, that they are spirits sent from hell to tempt and wreak havoc on the living. On the other hand, however, the reader, like Hamlet, cannot help but feel compelled to listen to the ghost s tale about his death and his lack of peace. Because of the verbal power ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... So It is clearly possible that the ghost as a father might just be a figment of Hamlet s imagination, as Hamlet is also the only one who has a dialogue with the ghost and he s the only one who sees or hears it when the ghost shows up, for instance, in Gertrude s chamber to remind Hamlet to be nice to his mom. Even before Hamlet finds out that the ghost has been appearing on the castle walls, he says to Horatio My father methinks I see my father [...] in my mind s eye Has Hamlet been imagining his conversations with the ghost the whole time? Creating the ghost out of his wild imagination could be Hamlet s way of dealing with the loss of the father he loved and idolized. Regardless of whether or not the ghost actually exists though, the spirit perhaps represents the way young Hamlet is haunted by his father s memory. Even though Claudius insists Hamlet s deep grief is unmanly and Gertrude pushes Hamlet constantly to just move one, the prince just mentally and emotionally ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 33. Historical Accuracy Of Henry Iv Plays By Shakespeare Name Instructor Course Date Historical Accuracy in Henry IV Plays by Shakespeare Research shows that Shakespeare s historical plays do not offer good sources for accurate rendering of historical events. The details of place of issues such as place, time, and personality are all subject to a great deal of artistic license just as most of modern Hollywood movies about the past. However, to some extent, Shakespeare did research his materials. Close analysis of his famous works and plays indicate that Henry IV draws upon a surprising range of disparate sources[CITATION Jam991 p 4 l 1033 ]. One of the most obvious sources for Henry IV plays is Chronicles of England, Scotland, and Ireland by Raphael Holinshed, the 1587 edition. Holinshed style of history focuses on personalities and motivations of important historical figures as well as much detail regarding Henry s IV tussle with Percy. Another important source used by Shakespeare in historical plays was The Civil Wars between the Two Houses of Lancaster and York by Samuel Daniel. The poems written by Daniel differ greatly from that of Holinshed particularly on the emphasis on the Princes of Wales and the rivalry he had with Hotspur. Shakespeare followed and used Daniel in portraying Hotspur as a much younger person at the period of rebellion though history shows that he was older than King Henry IV was. Both Daniel and Shakespeare use the battle of Shrewsbury as an occasion for the prince to prove his valor as well martial ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 34. How Did Justinian Influence Architecture Justinian Justinian I was a ruler in the Byzantine Empire from 527 to 565 CE. When he first came into power Justinian I was not favored by the overall population. Procopius, a scholar and historian in the 6th century, described Justinian as a man both an evil doer and easily led into evil, the sort of a person whom they call a moral pervert, never of his own accord speaking the truth to those with whom he conversed, but having a deceitful and crafty intent behind every word and action. Also the Nika Riots were revolts against Justinian s rule that took place in Constantinople over the span of a week. This resulted in the death of thirty thousand people. But despite the early animosity towards Justinian s reign it is clear that Justinian brought prosperity to the Byzantine Empire during and after his rule. Justinian I influenced art specifically ... Since most of Constantinople was burnt down during the riots Justinian decided to rebuild the capital into a much more magnificent city and it all started with the reconstruction of the Hagia Sophia. The Hagia Sophia was the most prominent church in the Roman Empire and Justinian had the church designed by architects Isidore of Miletus and Anthemius of Tralles. The church has a massive dome ceiling which was a huge feat for construction builders during the post classical age. There were 40 windows which helped to bring in light and illuminate the many mosaics inside the church. The mosaics were icons popular to the Eastern Orthodox faith such as Christ, angels and crosses. The Hagia Sophia has two levels and stands at 180 feet tall. The creation of the Nazi angel of death began as a child in a cold distant family, and gradually evolved with his enrolling into college, joining of his political party and the military. Some of the tests were fairly run of the mill, questionnaires, and height and weight measurements. Standard procedure for any doctor but the worst was yet to come. Comparing Hamlet And Tennant s Hamlet Ophelia s Madness In Branagh s Hamlet and Tennant s Hamlet The play Hamlet, by William Shakespeare, is the second most filmed play in the world after Cinderella ( Hamlet: The Facts ). Many people have attempted to re create the Shakespearian tragedy on screen but few have been able to do successfully. The extent of Ophelia s madness is controversial, and is often portrayed differently in every movie. The 2009 David Tennant version of Hamlet and the 1996 Kenneth Branagh version of Hamlet are two movies that both share similarities and have differences in the use of actors, setting, and costumes to emphasize Ophelia s madness. The selection of actresses based on acting techniques made an impact in the way Ophelia s madness was expressed. In the Tennant film, Mariah Gale was selected to play Ophelia. Gale s mixture of cheeriness and despair brought an eerie feeling to her mad scenes, allowing the viewer to decide the extent of her madness. Her singing sounded delirious and frantic, this effectively created a broken image for herself. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This causes the mood of the scene to be dark, and the shattered mirror seems to parallel the fractured state of Ophelia. The Branagh version uses a checkered ballroom for Ophelia s first appearance as a madwoman in Act 4, Scene 5. The room does not set a particular mood for the scene. Unlike the Tennant version, the Branagh movie includes scenes with a distressed Ophelia being held in a padded asylum, and also a scene of her drowning in clear water. Few people in the history of literature publicized as many thoughts and critical views as T.S. Containing stories, news, and opinions of both T.S. Eliot and others who wrote about him, The Letters of T.S. Eliot offer an inside perspective on Eliot s life (Eliot and Haffenden). In Volume 1 of the revised edition of the letters Patrick Query describes how T.S. Eliot felt so much passion for culture and how it must improve (Letters, Volume 1). In the volume, the writer states Eliot started a movement to modernize literature all on his own. Eliot contained such a strong passion for making the world a better place, that as society generally acted apathetically towards life, Eliot strived for a culture where people actually inserted energy and passion into life (Poetry Foundation). Also, in John Worthen s biography of T.S. Eliot, the author believes Eliot focused the entire masterpiece of Four Quartets on illustrating to his audience despite painful times in life, people must focus more on the beauty of life (Worthen). After addressing the aspects of society he believed needed to improve, Eliot wrote several poems on each topic which showed the beauty of his opinion and a more joyful culture.
