The student teacher observed a 10th grade English lesson on "If Clause - Type 2" taught by her mentor teacher. The lesson began with a warm-up where students shared what they did over the weekend. The teacher then introduced the grammar point by presenting a dialogue between two characters, Elena and her mother, to establish the context. Students practiced identifying and constructing sentences using "If clause - Type 2" through fill-in-the-blank, multiple choice, and substitution exercises. They also engaged in a paired dialogue activity to demonstrate their understanding of forming and using the grammar structure to express hypothetical or unreal situations in the present.
Lesson Plan for Writing Skill. It is targeted for 7 grade of Junior High School students. The genre of the text is descriptive text. The theme is pet animals.
Operation “Blue Star” is the only event in the history of Independent India where the state went into war with its own people. Even after about 40 years it is not clear if it was culmination of states anger over people of the region, a political game of power or start of dictatorial chapter in the democratic setup.
The people of Punjab felt alienated from main stream due to denial of their just demands during a long democratic struggle since independence. As it happen all over the word, it led to militant struggle with great loss of lives of military, police and civilian personnel. Killing of Indira Gandhi and massacre of innocent Sikhs in Delhi and other India cities was also associated with this movement.

2024.06.01 Introducing a competency framework for languag learning materials ...Sandy Millin
http://sandymillin.wordpress.com/iateflwebinar2024
Published classroom materials form the basis of syllabuses, drive teacher professional development, and have a potentially huge influence on learners, teachers and education systems. All teachers also create their own materials, whether a few sentences on a blackboard, a highly-structured fully-realised online course, or anything in between. Despite this, the knowledge and skills needed to create effective language learning materials are rarely part of teacher training, and are mostly learnt by trial and error.
Knowledge and skills frameworks, generally called competency frameworks, for ELT teachers, trainers and managers have existed for a few years now. However, until I created one for my MA dissertation, there wasn’t one drawing together what we need to know and do to be able to effectively produce language learning materials.
This webinar will introduce you to my framework, highlighting the key competencies I identified from my research. It will also show how anybody involved in language teaching (any language, not just English!), teacher training, managing schools or developing language learning materials can benefit from using the framework.

June 3, 2024 Anti-Semitism Letter Sent to MIT President Kornbluth and MIT Cor...Levi Shapiro
Letter from the Congress of the United States regarding Anti-Semitism sent June 3rd to MIT President Sally Kornbluth, MIT Corp Chair, Mark Gorenberg
Dear Dr. Kornbluth and Mr. Gorenberg,
The US House of Representatives is deeply concerned by ongoing and pervasive acts of antisemitic
harassment and intimidation at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT). Failing to act decisively to ensure a safe learning environment for all students would be a grave dereliction of your responsibilities as President of MIT and Chair of the MIT Corporation.
This Congress will not stand idly by and allow an environment hostile to Jewish students to persist. The House believes that your institution is in violation of Title VI of the Civil Rights Act, and the inability or
unwillingness to rectify this violation through action requires accountability.
Postsecondary education is a unique opportunity for students to learn and have their ideas and beliefs challenged. However, universities receiving hundreds of millions of federal funds annually have denied
students that opportunity and have been hijacked to become venues for the promotion of terrorism, antisemitic harassment and intimidation, unlawful encampments, and in some cases, assaults and riots.
The House of Representatives will not countenance the use of federal funds to indoctrinate students into hateful, antisemitic, anti-American supporters of terrorism. Investigations into campus antisemitism by the Committee on Education and the Workforce and the Committee on Ways and Means have been expanded into a Congress-wide probe across all relevant jurisdictions to address this national crisis. The undersigned Committees will conduct oversight into the use of federal funds at MIT and its learning environment under authorities granted to each Committee.
• The Committee on Education and the Workforce has been investigating your institution since December 7, 2023. The Committee has broad jurisdiction over postsecondary education, including its compliance with Title VI of the Civil Rights Act, campus safety concerns over disruptions to the learning environment, and the awarding of federal student aid under the Higher Education Act.
• The Committee on Oversight and Accountability is investigating the sources of funding and other support flowing to groups espousing pro-Hamas propaganda and engaged in antisemitic harassment and intimidation of students. The Committee on Oversight and Accountability is the principal oversight committee of the US House of Representatives and has broad authority to investigate “any matter” at “any time” under House Rule X.
• The Committee on Ways and Means has been investigating several universities since November 15, 2023, when the Committee held a hearing entitled From Ivory Towers to Dark Corners: Investigating the Nexus Between Antisemitism, Tax-Exempt Universities, and Terror Financing. The Committee followed the hearing with letters to those institutions on January 10, 202

Embracing GenAI - A Strategic ImperativePeter Windle
Artificial Intelligence (AI) technologies such as Generative AI, Image Generators and Large Language Models have had a dramatic impact on teaching, learning and assessment over the past 18 months. The most immediate threat AI posed was to Academic Integrity with Higher Education Institutes (HEIs) focusing their efforts on combating the use of GenAI in assessment. Guidelines were developed for staff and students, policies put in place too. Innovative educators have forged paths in the use of Generative AI for teaching, learning and assessments leading to pockets of transformation springing up across HEIs, often with little or no top-down guidance, support or direction.
This Gasta posits a strategic approach to integrating AI into HEIs to prepare staff, students and the curriculum for an evolving world and workplace. We will highlight the advantages of working with these technologies beyond the realm of teaching, learning and assessment by considering prompt engineering skills, industry impact, curriculum changes, and the need for staff upskilling. In contrast, not engaging strategically with Generative AI poses risks, including falling behind peers, missed opportunities and failing to ensure our graduates remain employable. The rapid evolution of AI technologies necessitates a proactive and strategic approach if we are to remain relevant.

2. BEGINNING THE LESSON
Greeting the Students
T: Good morning class!
S: Good morning teacher.
T: How are you today?
S: Fine, thanks, and you?
T: I’ m also fine, thank you. You can sit.
Warm-up (Social Chat)
T: It is such a beautiful sunny day, isn’t it? I am really happy about it . The weather was great
on weekend and I really enjoyed at picnic with my friends. What did you do this weekend?
S: I visited my grandmother.
S: I did shopping with my mom.
S: I went to a party with my best friend.
T: Ohh, really good. You had a nice weekend, didn’t you?
S: (All together) Yeeees!
T: Hi Emre, how are you? You didn’t attend the last course.
S: Yes teacher. I was ill.
T: Are you ok now?
S: Yes my teacher, thank you.
T: I am glad to hear that.
3. Transition
T:Ok, then let’s start the lesson! Today, we have a guest. Do you want to meet her?
S: Yes , we want to meet the guest so much.
PRESENTATION
Creating the context
(The teacher shows the first picture)
T: This is Elena. She is a pretty girl , isn’t she?
S: Yes.
T: What is she doing?
S: She is studying her lessons.
T: Yes , my class. What do you think about her mood?
S: She is bored.
4. S: She is thinking.
T: Yes, she is thinking about anything else instead of her lessons. Because Elena wants to go
outside with her friends. ( Teacher shows the second picture)
And this is Mrs. White. She is the mother of Elena and she also wants her daughter to study
her lessons. So, she doesn’t let her go outside.
( Clarifying the meaning)
T: Now Elena think that she can do other things instead of studying now. She doesn’t want to
study. Also, she doesn’t go outside. She wants it now , right?
S: Yes , teacher. Elena wants to do something else now. But she is studying her lessons.
T: So, we can say that she wants something that is unreal. She dreams a situation that has a
possibility to happen right now. But it doesn’t happen. She wants to express her unreal
demands.
5. (Checking Understanding)
T: So, What is Elena doing right now?
S: Elena is studying her lessons but she doesn’t want to study.
T: What she wants to do in real?
S: She wants to go outside but her mother doesn’t let her go. Elena has a demand. But it
doesn’t happen right now.
(Clarifying Meaning)
T: Really good, thank you honey. We can say that in a different situation, her demand can be
real. But now it can’t be real. Then think that you are Elena, how can you express your
demand?
S: I can say that I don’t want to study now. I will go outside instead of studying.
(Clarifying the form)
T: Ok , well done. But we have a grammatical form for expressing present unreal events. Do
you have a guess about this form?
S: ….
T: Ok , let’s see how Elena express ideas right now. Elena thinks that
‘’ If I finished studying my lessons , my mother would let me go outside.’’
6. ‘’ If I were my mother , I would let me go outside. ‘’
‘’ If I went outside , I wouldn’t be bored.’’
‘’ If my mother didn’t force me to study, I would be outside now.’’
’’ If I didn’t have to study my lessons, I could go outside with my friends. ‘’
T: Now , repeat after me please.
T: If I finished studying my lessons
S: If I finished studying my lessons
T: My mother would let me go outside.
S: My mother would let me go outside.
T: If I were my mother
T: If I were my mother
T: I would let me go outside
S: I would let me go outside
T: If I went outside
S: If I went outside
T: I wouldn’t be bored
S: I wouldn’t be bored.
T: If my mother didn’t force me to study
7. S: If my mother didn’t force me to study
T: I would be outside now
S: I would be outside now
T: If I didn’t have to study my lessons
S: If I didn’t have to study my lessons
T: I could go outside with my friends
S: I could go outside with my friends
T: Very well my class. (Teacher writes the sentences on the board, highlights the target
grammar structure) (Teacher writes the name of the form – If Clause – Type 2-- on the board
above the examples.)
T: You can copy the sentences to your notebooks, I am giving three minutes for you.
(Checking Understanding)
T: So, how many clauses are needed to compose the unreal conditional?
S: We need two clauses to form the present unreal conditional.
T: Yes , How do we compose the first sentence?
S: First , we start with ‘’if-clause’’
T: Ok , Which tense is used in ‘’if clause’’?
S: Simple Past Tense
T: Perfect. How do we compose the main clause?
S: The main clause is made by ‘’would’’ , ‘’wouldn’t’’
T: Very well
S: Something is wrong in the example teacher, you write ‘’I were my mother’’ It should be
‘’If I was my mother’’
8. T: You catch an important point Murat. Do you think that it is wrong?
S: Yes teacher , we learned it in simple past tense.
T: Good. There is one exception in this form. The verb ‘’be’’ takes ‘’were’’ for all persons.(
Teacher repeats the sentence two times)
T: Can you explain what I said Gizem?
S: In if clause-type 2, we use ‘’were’’ for all persons. It is an exception.
T: Thank you Gizem. (Teacher writes the rules of the grammar pattern briefly for making the
form clear)
Checking Understanding of Meaning and Form
T: So, Do we use the present unreal conditional to express a present condition?
S: Yes.
T: Why do we call ‘’unreal’’ to this form?
S: Because it tells us what would happen if the situation were different.
T: Perfect, thank you.
T: Can I use simple present tense in Elena’s examples?
S: No , we should use simple past tense.
T: Why?
S: It is the rule. Because it in not unreal with simple present tense.
T: It’s true. Well done. Do we have to use simple past tense in if clause?
S: Yesss
T: Do we use ‘’would’’ and ‘’wouldn’t ‘’ in main clause?
S: Yesss.
Transition
T: Congratulations, you get the idea I think. Let’s work on the structure a little more.

Communicative Activity (free-controlled)
T: Yes class. Now , I want you all to think about ‘’What would you do now if school didn’t
exist.’’ Think about a world without school. I want you to work in groups of five. Discuss
the subject with group members in ten minutes. Then we will share our ideas all together.

want to be a doctor. I can be a doctor with school…..
…………
T: Thank you for your ideas my class. So, as a conclusion , we can say that if school didn’t
exist , we would be in bad conditions of life. We would be uneducated and narrowminded. We wouldn’t know our abilities and what we are capable of. Schools are the basic
foundations of our lives.
T: It is time to finish the lesson. See you next lesson, take care of yourself
