An English Language Lesson Plan for the Primary School

Theme : World of Self, Family and Friends
Topic : Family Members’ Activity
Learning Outcomes : 1.6.1 Listen to and enjoys children’s songs, rhymes, and
poems.
2.7.1 Talk about oneself to neighbours and friends
3.3.1 Read and understand phrases by matching simple
phrases to pictures.
4.3.1 Match phrases to pictures.
Language Skills Focus : Listening
Integrated Skills : Speaking, Reading, Writing
Educational Emphases : Multiple Intelligence- Verbal linguistics, bodily- kinesthetic,
intrapersonal intelligence, interpersonal intelligence
Moral Value : a. cooperation among family members to do house chores.
Aim : To inform the students about the roles played by each family
member.
Behavioural Objectives : By the end of this lesson, pupils will be able to:
(a) Pronounce 4 unfamiliar words (rinses, squeegees, scrubs,
soaps) with the teacher’s guidance correctly.
(b) Match 2 out of 3 pictures with the sentence correctly
(c) Answer question in simple present tense
Teaching Aids : Picture cards, worksheets
Word list : take out, pulls out, drops, soaps, pick up, finds, put, rinses,
squeegees, fills up, dumps in, scrubs.
Sentence Patterns : He pulls out the bag, he ties up the top, he takes it to the
dustbin, she soaps them, she rinses them, she
squeegees to shine them, he picks up transformers, he
finds the little Legos, she fills up the sink, she dumps in
the dishes, she scrubs the goo, she rinses the goo.
Grammar : Simple present tense.
Pupils’ previous knowledge : Pupils have knowledge on the pronouns, singular and plural
nouns.

  • 1. An English Language Lesson Plan for the Primary School Date : 25th of August 2013 Time : 8.00 a.m- 9.00 a.m (double period) Class : 4 Cerdas Theme : World of Self, Family and Friends Topic : Family Members’ Activity Learning Outcomes : 1.6.1 Listen to and enjoys children’s songs, rhymes, and poems. 2.7.1 Talk about oneself to neighbours and friends 3.3.1 Read and understand phrases by matching simple phrases to pictures. 4.3.1 Match phrases to pictures. Language Skills Focus : Listening Integrated Skills : Speaking, Reading, Writing Educational Emphases : Multiple Intelligence- Verbal linguistics, bodily- kinesthetic, intrapersonal intelligence, interpersonal intelligence Moral Value : a. cooperation among family members to do house chores. Aim : To inform the students about the roles played by each family member. Behavioural Objectives : By the end of this lesson, pupils will be able to: (a) Pronounce 4 unfamiliar words (rinses, squeegees, scrubs, soaps) with the teacher’s guidance correctly. (b) Match 2 out of 3 pictures with the sentence correctly (c) Answer question in simple present tense Teaching Aids : Picture cards, worksheets Word list : take out, pulls out, drops, soaps, pick up, finds, put, rinses, squeegees, fills up, dumps in, scrubs.

Sentence Patterns : He pulls out the bag, he ties up the top, he takes it to the dustbin, she soaps them, she rinses them, she squeegees to shine them, he picks up transformers, he finds the little Legos, she fills up the sink, she dumps in the dishes, she scrubs the goo, she rinses the goo. Grammar : Simple present tense. Pupils’ previous knowledge : Pupils have knowledge on the pronouns, singular and plural nouns. Steps/Time Content Teacher-Pupils Activity Teaching Aids/EE/Values/Com ments Set Induction (5 mins) Guessing games Guessing pictures about family members.  Teacher shows a picture of family members  Teacher asks questions based on the picture  Pupils answer questions posed by the teacher.  Teacher tells the pupils about the topic for that day. Teaching Aids: -picture cards Appendix 1 MI: Verbal linguistics Presentation (15 mins) Song entitled Family Tasks Word list: take out, pulls out, drops, pick up, finds, put, fills up, dumps in *New vocabulary: rinse, squeegees, scrubs, soaps, goo  Teacher shows the lyric using projector.  Teacher sings the song with correct actions, rhythm and stress to the pupils.  The pupils sing after the teacher.  Teacher takes out all the simple present tense sentences found in the lyric. Projector, song lyric, laptop, speaker Appendix 2 MI: body- kinesthetic intelligence, intrapersonal intelligence

Practice (20 mins) Match my actions! (group work)  Teacher divides the pupils into 4 groups.  Each group receives a worksheet.  Teacher asks the pupils to match the pictures with the correct sentences.  Teacher asks the group to come in front and talk about their findings. Appendix 3 MI: interpersonal intelligence
  • 4. Production (15 mins) Share with my partner! (in pairs)  Teacher asks the pupils to sit in pairs which is A and B.  Teacher gives a Q&A strip to each pair.  For the first round, pupils A fill in the blank with their partner’s name.  Then pupils A ask the question to pupils B.  Pupils B answer the question by using their own name and in simple present tense.  For the second round, pupils B will change their role with pupils A. Appendix 4 Purpose: To increase the level of confidence in pupils. Closure (5 mins) Recall  Teacher shows few pictures.  Teacher asks the action done in the pictures.  Teacher asks the pupils to answer in simple present tense.  Teacher emphasizes on the moral values. Teaching aids: -display pictures using power point. Values: - Help the family members in doing the house chores.
