Should The Nobel Peace Prize Be Abolished
The Nobel Peace Prize is an award Alfred Nobel made for people who try to make the world better.
Each year a person who tried to make it less polluted or tried to take away one of the many problems.
In 2007, Al Gore was given the prize. The most significant effect is climate change and global
warming of which the people have created.
This is true because as the months come and go, it is getting harder and harder to ignore the fact that
the world is in danger. In the last few months, it has been harder and harder to misinterpret the signs
that our world is spinning out of kilter (Nobel Speech p. 15) This is true because with more and more
pollution in the tiny shell of the atmosphere, it is getting harder to ignore that the Earth as many know
it is getting changed in a bad way. This links to the claim because the world spinning out of kilter is an
effect of climate change and global warming.
The claim is true because the human species are ignoring the problems at hand. We, the human
species, are confronting a planetary emergency a threat ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
No witchcraft, no enemy action had silenced the rebirth of new life in this stricken world. The people
had done it themselves. (Silent Spring p. 8) This is true because the only reason why people would say
that the pollution is worse, is because you can see how big it is, but climate change is something you
cannot see that still is a humongous challenge. This is false for many more reasons, but since you can
see it people would think it is a bigger problem, when really the climate change is.
Many would say that climate change is the biggest problem which is true, because people have been
ignoring the problem showing how it gets worse over time.In my point of view, if people car pulled,
and rode bikes, and drove in cars less the world would not have nearly as big of problems at

Objectives Of Girl Scout
The Girl Scouts organization accepts all young women. The organization is not deigned to isolate a
certain population due to age, race, income or education. In order to join the troops, the young woman
must find a local troop, pay a twenty five dollar membership fee, additional fees may apply if she is
interested in other activities, recite the Girl Scout Promise and Girl Scout Law and meet the applicable
membership standards; membership levels or Girl Scout Adults requirement. The Girl Scouts assists
young women from the grades of kindergarten to twelfth grade. The program is not deigned to isolate
a certain population due to age, race, income or education. Each grade level sets their own goals and
earns badges based on their programs and interests.
Inner
The Girl Scout organization lets the girls form their beliefs and own perception of the world. They
encourage the young women to accept everyone and help anyone, but safety is their primary goal.
According to Young Mason (2012), The aim of the Girl Scouts was and is that girls will develop to
their full potential by pursuing 4 goals: developing their full potential, relating to others with
increasing understanding, skill, and respect, developing a meaningful set of values to guide their
actions and to provide for sound decision making, and contributing to the improvement of society (pg.
228). The organization knows the limitations that society may set on young women. However, their
goal is to break the stigma that

Lenz, by Georg Buchner
In Buchner s Lenz , the protagonist is portrayed as a fallen man, disjointed from society and mentally
unstable. Buchner s portrays Lenz s fall into madness in his narrative style, the use of realisation and
the use of nature. Moreover, one can evaluate their effectiveness in portraying Lenz s descent into
madness.
By examining Buchner s narrative style, one can see that it is dissimilar to other German Romantics.
Where Von Kleist seems journalistic in The Marchioness of O.. the narrative in Lenz appears as if it
has been disrupted by the protagonist. For example when the narrator states but at this time he found it
annoying that he could not walk on his head , one can allude that this is Lenz distorting the narrative
with his ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
However, the narrative style is not Buchner s only method for deconstructing the stability of Lenz.
Through a series of religious realisations, Lenz comes to question the power of God. When delivering
the sermon Lenz initially feels improved however it seemed to him that the universe was full of
wounds; this caused him deep unspeakable pain. One can infer that Lenz has realised the suffering of
those around him that questions his own reliance on religion as crutch. Moreover, it could imply a lack
of faith in God. It is after these religious realisations that Lenz has episodes of madness.
He was alone, alone! The brook murmured, streams poured from his eyes, he hunched himself
together, his limbs quivered and he felt he must disintegrate, so endless was the voluptuous pleasure of
it. At last it dawned upon him: he felt a deep pity for himself, he wept for himself; his head sank upon
his breast and he fell asleep.
In this instance, hunched quivered and disintegrate connote unnatural movement that could infer Lenz
s mental state. Moreover, with the use of voluptuous pleasure one could allude that Lenz was enjoying
his suffering, as if he deserved it. Due to these attacks occurring after religious realisations, one could
imply that religion has a deep effect on Lenz s Psyche. It seems that as Lenz becomes more

The Audit Risk Assessment and Potential Areas of Improvement
The Audit Risks Assessment Model and Potential Areas of Improvement
By:
Patrick S. Fields
Fraud and the Creation of Sarbanes Oxley
Following the multitude of fraud scandals in the early 2000 s, such as Enron and WorldCom, many
accounting firms found themselves as part of a thorough investigation to determine what exactly
caused the sudden outburst of accounting fraud. As investors and creditors pursued their lost money
from the these business failures, accounting firms began to garner attention for not fulfilling their due
process during the audit to detect the fraud before it grew to the extent in which it did. In the case of
the Enron scandal, it ultimately turned into the indictment and conviction of Arthur Anderson, one of

Current economic conditions and other internal factors may raise the inherent risks for a particular
account. Some transactions that are routine, noncomplex, and systematically processed may have
lower inherent risks, while other routine transactions, such as cash transactions, are more susceptible
to fraud and, therefore, have greater inherent risk (Clark 2009). Detection risk is the risk that
substantive procedures may be ineffective in detecting errors. As your risk of material misstatement
increases, an auditor must prepare an audit plan with more effective substantive procedure. By
multiplying these risks together you arrive at the audit risk; defined by SAS 107, Audit Risk and
Materiality in Conducting an Audit, as the positive opinion of an auditor of financial statements that
are materially misstated and unknowingly failed to be appropriately modified. As stated earlier, audit
risks can never be fully eliminated. Normally, the formula is used to solve for detection risk after
establishing an acceptable audit risk (usually 5 10%) based on factors surrounding the company,
industry, and background of the client. The determination of detection risks ultimately plays a major
role in planning the audit and establishing a materiality threshold. The audit opinion is directly
influenced by the amount and type of audit evidence

The Role Of A School Counselor
The role of a school counselor has taken on numerous descriptions in the last decade. Although the
American School Counselor Association (ASCA) and Texas Education Code (TEC) provide the basic
roles and responsibilities of school counselors, every school district and even campus has modified
that description to fit the needs of the campus. Every administrator, teacher, student, and counselor
may provide a different explanation of the role that counselors play in education. Regardless of the
role description or explanations provided by counselors themselves, the primary focus of a school
counselor is to fully develop each student s academic, career, personal, and social abilities (Tex. Educ.
Code § 33.006).
The role of a school counselor can be both rewarding and challenging. One of the most challenging
aspects of being a school counselor is managing multiple duties (K. Hancock, personal
communication, August 19, 2014). K. Hancock is also the district testing coordinator, which according
to the ASCA, is noted as being an inappropriate counseling duty. The role of a school counselor, in
regards to testing, is to interpret the results of these tests and to analyze them in conjunction with
multiple measures of student achievement (ASCA, 2005). During testing season, K. Hancock has to
utilize her time planning and preparing for state assessments rather than focusing on primary
counseling roles. During this time, she must extend her work hours to ensure she is able to

Civil War Nurse Research Paper
Civil War Nurses Problems Is a woman naturally weaker than a man? Medical research has shown that
physically women are weaker than men in terms of muscles, blood level, and brain size. But socially
women were made weaker by male dominated society. Women were bounded between two walls of
the home. They were limited in domestic work like cooking, taking care of children, cleaning house,
and washing clothes. War brought political, social, and economic change in women. Women played a
role of back supporter for men during the war. Women started handling the agriculture, running
commercial activities and other jobs that were used to be carried out by men before. Not only that

The duties and responsibility of nurses at that time was different from the present. Rebecca Usher of
Maine has explained that women nurses were not given the medical assistance job rather they were
made focused on sanitation of wounded soldiers. Their job is to wash the clothes of ill soldiers, make
food for them, distributing for them and some get the chance of helping the soldiers by reading and
writing letters to their family. A woman from the rich family was only able to get the chance to be
nurses at that time because they were accessed with the people of the hospital. In comparison to male
nurses, women nurses were given low level jobs. Women were given less chance than men. Only a
few male from middle class and upper class family could get a job. Among these middle class also
women close to the superintendent were able to get a job. In the introduction on pg. iv paragraph
second it is mention that Dix (superintendent of woman nurses) kept the crop outside of the military
chain of command, personal management style and traveled extensively. She could be considered as

A Brief Note On The Water Treatment Systems
Water treatment systems The groundwater source is from GoldCentury gold mine, whereby excess
groundwater is pumped out of mine at a maximum volumetric flow rate of 477L/s. It contains
contaminants such as volatile organic compounds (VOCs), heavy metal impurities, sulphates,
bicarbonates, microorganisms, dissolved minerals and objectionable gases, but focuses on the removal
of dissolved inorganic contaminants such as calcium and iron. The most prevalent dissolved minerals
which are Calcium and Magnesium, also known as hardness, can be removed by precipitation,
requiring softening steps. The purification system designed is based more on efficiency over cost
effectiveness. The purpose of treating the groundwater in this assignment, is to purify it to drinking
standards to hydrate mineworkers underground during heated, intense mine work operations, and for
operating certain equipment and tools. Figure 1: Mine groundwater treatment plant schematic Figure 1
shows the following unit operations: A settling tank is installed to allow large particles such as to settle
so that they can easily be removed. The retention time is around 30 minutes or 0.5 hours. Aeration
removes excess and objectable gases. A packed tower stripping system is used which removes 99.95%
(or 179.91mg/L) of VOCs. This process also reduces the pH of the water and has a retention time of
22.716 minutes (0.3786hr). Chemical precipitation is performed on larger molecules which make up

The Influence Of Art On American Society
The statement of when artists feel issues in strong and personal way, or that they have something to
say about the human condition, they can produce powerful, disturbing and intuitive artworks is true
because in many situations, art has influence people to make drastic changes. Artists, in some cases
have a stronger influence on people rather that someone making a speech as art involves techniques
such as colour, the type of medium and the location in which it was painted. The article, Influence of

Psychopathy, Sociopathy And Anti Social Personality Disorder
Are Psychopathy, Sociopathy and Anti Social Personality Disorder the same?
Psychopathy, sociopathy, and anti social personality disorder, also known as ASPD, are three very
similar disorders; so much so that it is a common question if they are the same disorder or not. All
three of them are defined as people who have anti social behaviours. All of these disorders are very
common in people who disregard both the law and social norms, have no shame or guilt, and are
occasionally violent; such as criminals. Psychopathy, sociopathy and ASPD, are essentially the same
disorder, as they all fall under the same category of an anti social disorder, and are based on
symptoms, definitions, and crime records.
Psychopathy is defined as a mental disorder in which an individual manifests amoral and antisocial
behaviour, lack of ability to love or establish meaningful personal relationships, extreme egocentricity
and failure to learn from experience (Dictionary.com). (Expand?) There have been many tests to find
out if treatment can be implemented to help with the violent and criminal thoughts and feelings. So
far, according to Grant T. Harris and Marnie E. Rice in their article entitled Treatment of Psychopathy:
A Review of Empirical Findings , there is no evidence that any treatments yet applied to psychopaths
have been shown to be effective in reducing violence or crime. They go on to explain that some
treatments that have proven to be successful for other types of offenders,

Medicare in Canada is a government funded universal health insurance program established by
legislation passed in 1957, 1966 and 1984 (Canada, 2012). Openly funded and administered,

Roles Of Queen Gertrude
In Hamlet, Queen Gertrude is a major role in the development of Hamlet s character. She is the
immoral mother figure who argues against her son throughout the book. Despite this, she does not
display authority roles and decisions, unlike her modern day counterparts. Queen Gertrude exhibited a
lack of authority, despite being a Queen, and is comparable to that of the modern woman, who display
more independent and leadership roles. Gertrude is not independent in the slightest. The concept of
fierceness is prevalent in today s society. Women can hold their own, have a say in what they do, and
what their destiny is. Gertrude, however, let fate take course over her life. Her former husband, King
Hamlet, was allegedly killed by his brother, Claudius. Half way through the play, Hamlet organizes a
play called The Murder of Gonzo, to guilt trip Claudius into revealing whether he killed his brother or
not. Featured in the play are representatives of the current King and Queen. The Player King says
Since love our hearts and Hymen did our hands/Unite commutual in most sacred bands. (3.2.156 158)
The King is essentially saying love has brought them together to marry each other, and it appears as if
the King is extremely fond of the Queen. The Queen responds So far from cheer from cheer and from
your former state,/That I distrust you. Yet, though I distrust you.../And as my love is sized, my fear is

The Evolutionary Change Under Strong Selective Pressures
Domestication is a phenomenon that has promoted significant evolutionary change under strong
selective pressures (Driscoll et al. 2009). As a result of this phenomenon, various domesticated strains
of flora and fauna have significantly contributed to the development of human civilization (Morey
1994; Driscoll 2009). Although it was a substantial component to our progress, it was not until the
research of Dmitry K. Belyaev that we began to unravel the early stages of domestication. Assuming
that these initial stages involved selection on behavior, Belyaev conducted an experimental study that
placed strong selective pressures on tamability. Using the fox, Vulpes vulpes, as a model, this artificial
selection developed an experimental population that expressed behavioral, morphological, and
physiological characteristics of domesticated species (Belyaev 1969).
Under stressful conditions, animals have the tendency to engage in avoidance responses to promote
their chances of survival (Smith Vale 2006; Ranabir Reetu 2011). These avoidance responses,
including fearful and/or aggressive behavior, also tend to be the primary reactions to human
encounters. Belyaev suggested that as a consequence, social interactions in the early stages of
domestication likely depended on animals with an inhibited response to stress. Ergo, he reasoned that
selectively breeding animals expressing this behavioral response, or tamability, would likely mirror
these early stages (Belyaev 1969).

Symptoms And Symptoms Of Hallucinations Essay
INTRODUCTION
Hallucinations are one of the most intriguing secrets of the mind, which are characterized by false
visions, sounds, taste, smell, and touch that can occur when one is awake; it has a sufficient sense of
reality, but one has no control over it. Hallucinations are the form of perception. There is no particular
part of the brain that is involved in hallucinating. For example, people seeing faces could have a
hyperactivity in fusiform face area involved in facial recognition. People with hyperactivity in the
auditory cortex might experience auditory hallucinations: hearing music, or voices, that are not there.
Hallucinations can be frightening, strange, or even amusing and divine. There are numerous causes of
hallucinations: they are usually experienced by people with schizophrenia, Charles Bonnet syndrome,
Parkinson s disease, or other psychological and mental disorders. However, hallucinations can also be
experienced by healthy individuals, who are the subjects for studying the nature and causes of
hallucinations, as they do not interact with other symptoms like in patients with schizophrenia.
Researchers use functional magnetic resonance imaging (fMRI) scans to track the brain activities
during hallucinations. The aim of this research paper is to describe several types of hallucinations,
ways of studying hallucinations, and possible treatments.

Thesis Statement Of The Naked Brand

The Naked Brand is a documentary film about the future of advertising. It was directed by: Jeff
Rosenblum, a founding partner of Questus and a well known innovator of the marketing world; as
well as Sherng Lee Huang, an acclaimed cinematographer. Rosenblum was inspired to make this film
to illustrate how advertising has changed from being a source of just marketing your product to a way
to connect with your customers and increase product quality. The film includes many exclusive

current trends and popular brands and have a tendency to select these products. It applies specially to

campaigns from brands such as, Nike, Adidas ECT. As well as the influence of peers.

information but rather on digital and peer reviews as well as brand name. By moving the money from

Importance Of Humanism In Thomas More s Utopia
Humanism was a movement that has influenced the Renaissance Era. According to Associate
Professor of Art History, Robert Baldwin, humanism is a culture produced by urban elites to cope
with...possibilities keenly experienced in the city...where divine reason ruled over base matter, mind
over body, intellect over the passions (1 2). The book Utopia, written by Thomas More, includes many
aspects of humanism in the society which plays a big role in the punishment of crime, greed of the
people, and the equality of its systems.
More states that in his contemporary society, the citizens were driven off their lands with no money,
and therefore they had to resort to stealing which was punishable by death. Consequently when
[people] grow up and commit the crimes that they were obviously destined to do... [the government
starts] punishing them (More 27). Although the people are punished severely, the number of crimes
committed are not diminishing because if death is the punishment of any crime then, if a thief [knew]
that a conviction for murder will get him in no more trouble than...theft, he s naturally impelled to kill
the person that he d...have robbed (More 29). The thief not only would have gotten rid of the only
witness, making it easier to conceal the crime, but also persuaded other thieves to kill their victims as
it would be advantageous. But in More s ideal society, a convicted thief has to return what he s stolen
to its owner... [and] is sentenced to hard labor where apart from having to work very long hours, he
has a perfectly comfortable life (30). Rather than killing a human being for taking an inanimate object,
they are given a second chance to correct their ways, so they don t repeat the crime they committed.
Also, they are treated more like people rather than monsters, so they are able to easily transition back
into society. Humanism advocates human rights of the individuals and justice and equality for
everyone, therefore humanists do not support the killing of human beings. Not only do the
punishments differ between the two societies, but greed as well. In More s current society, in Europe,
the government is corrupt and the people are poverty stricken due to the greed of the king. His
decisions

What Is Macbeth s Downfall
Macbeth starts off as a well respected, loved by all hero. He is then talked into killing the king, his
closest friend, and also considers himself indestructible. All three events create a tragic hero. With all
tragic heroes, comes their tragic downfalls. Macbeth s downfall is caused by both his free will and
fate. It all started when three witches told Macbeth his fate, filled with a false sense of confidence, he
sets off a series of events that lead to his death.
It first started when the witches meet Macbeth at the heath. One of the witches then proceeds to tell
Macbeth, All hail, Macbeth, that shalt be king hereafter! (I, iii). Completely thrown off, Macbeth asks
the witches to explain how is it possible since the King still lives with heirs to the throne. The witches
leave without giving him an answer, and soon after Macbeth begins plotting against the King. He was
very hesitant and battled internally with the idea of killing the King. After some convincing from his
wife, Macbeth goes through with the plan stating, I have done the deed. Didst thou not hear a noise?

The SS and police had established Theresienstadt in November 1941 as an instrument of propaganda
for domestic consumption in the German Reich. The camp ghetto was used as an explanation for
Germans who were puzzled by the deportation of German and Austrian Jews who were elderly,
disabled war veterans, or locally known artists and musicians to the East for labor. In preparation for
the 1944 visit, the ghetto underwent a beautification program. In the wake of the inspection, SS
officials in the Protectorate produced a film using ghetto residents as a demonstration of the
benevolent treatment the Jewish residents of Theresienstadt supposedly enjoyed. When the film was
completed, SS officials deported most of the cast to the Auschwitz Birkenau killing center. The Nazi
regime used propaganda effectively to mobilize the German population to support its wars of conquest

With the results of this experiment being what could be classified a failure the Indian government

Native Americans And The United States
The United States as we know it, since its beginning has been based on immigration. Native
Americans traveled during the Ice Age through the Bering Strait and English settlers sailed the
Atlantic. Due to unknown reasons, most of the Native societies except for the Aztecs collapse before
the arrival of the Europeans, which gives shine to the English settlements since their attainment set the
roots of our society today. More importantly, it should be recognized the diverse cultures of English
settlers since it has set the precedent for the tolerance and freedom of expression that is experienced in
the United States today. English migrated to the United States due to the lack of freedom of religion in
the Mother Land. This made the New World a setting with a mixture of different religions that were
persecuted in England. Each of the persecuted religious groups brought different cultures and as a
result settled in different regions of the American continent Atlantic coast. These settlers were
distributed through New England, the Carolinas, the Mid Atlantic, and Chesapeake. Their differences
in customs and terrain settled made for the success (or failure) of each colony.
The first English settlements are what defined the new colonies of America. Before the English settled
in the land, America was pursued over by the Spaniards. Of the several colonies that were established

The American Government
All individuals within the United States do not receive the proper benefits they desire which results on
the Government not fully benefiting their needs. The American government supports all citizens, but
does not grant individuals their total human rights that they fully deserve. Individuals have the right to
be supported by the government especially the one with a low income, troubled families, and
struggling individuals. Although the government satisfies the needs of its people to certain extent, it
only occurs when the government is involved due to self interest. The legislative process, interest
groups, and congressional powers tend to stop the American individuals from being fully satisfied by
the government of the United States. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Gridlocks stop copious bills from being passed, this results and leads to benefit the political system.
There are various bills that are constantly being introduced to the legislative system but most of them
do not proceed to get passed. Copious bills are being introduced each year but unfortunately due to
gridlocks only about 4 5% of bills get passed due to the high amount of gridlocks occurring within the
government. The copious bills that are not being pass could have been utilized to help individuals in
order to grant their desires. Instead of being passed they are just stuck waiting for the ratification that
would unfortunately take various of years. Although there are laws that are constantly being
published, there are also copious bills that stay behind waiting for their approval because they are
stuck within gridlocks. If gridlocks did not occur so frequently many bills would have the ability to
get passed rapidly, which could be utilized to grant more right to the American citizens.
Furthermore, one highly important part of the government is represented within the congressional
powers. Congressional powers portrays the ability to lay and collect taxes, provide for the common
defenses and general welfare, and most importantly its ability to

Lord Of The Flies Characteristics
In the novel Lord of the Flies by William Golding, a group of young boys become stranded on a
deserted island following a plane crash. Since the world is at war, the boys realize they are not the
main concern and rescue might take a while. Without adult supervision and with no simple means of
survival, the boys must fend for themselves and rely on their own skills and experiences to survive. As
their time on the island progresses, the strengths and weaknesses of the boys become more apparent.
Some seem destined to live and others to die. Golding uses the main characters and their character
traits to develop the theme that society is the result of survival of the fittest. Jack is one of the older
boys on the island who represents how stronger, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
He sort of clashes with Jack and Ralph because of how wise his thoughts are because of this he
clashes with Jack and Ralph because they view Simon as a weak , and not as strong as them. From the
start, Simon starts to slightly resemble a parent figure because of how mature he is in many situations
and encounterments that they reach. An example of a situation that showed that Simon portrayed a
parent figure was when he had the encounter with the head or the beast . When he encountered it he
developed a theme of a nature to the conscious personality of a man is developed in a stunning fashion
(Epstein 110). He states that maybe there is a beast...maybe it s only us (Golding 80). Both of these
quote are explaining that when he did see the beast he was the only one to realize that the beast was
living in each of the boys. Jack and Ralph s first instinct to do when something goes wrong is to kill,
Simon does not resort to killing first. He tries to think of other ways instead of conclusion to kill.
Simon shows that you don t always have to be the one to be the strongest, but you must be wise and a
good thinker to show good characteristics of survival of the

Discovery of HeLa Cells
It is safe to say that without the discovery of HeLa cells in 1951, today s world would be vastly
different. HeLa cells have left a greater mark on the world than ever dreamed possible. These
immortal cells were vital to the development of the polio vaccine, cloning, uncovering microscopic
secrets of viruses and cancer, in vitro fertilization and gene mapping. They have been everywhere:
labs, animals, people, even the moon. They assisted with the development of the atom bomb and were
sent into space, being used to study the effects of these unknown environments on human cells. HeLa
cells have touched the lives of everyone, yet the majority of people have never heard the name
Henrietta Lacks, the woman from which these cells were removed. In The Immortal life of Henrietta
Lacks, the author Rebecca Skloot escorts us on a remarkable journey through her quest to uncover
Henrietta s life story. Henrietta Lacks was a poor tobacco farmer Clover, Virginia, working the land
just as her slave ancestors did and struggling to keep her children fed and safe. After moving to East
Baltimore in hopes of a better life, marriage struggles with her husband and cousin David Day, and
four children, she began to have extensive pain in her abdomen, as she described, A knot in my womb.
This pain arrived shortly after the birth of her daughter Deborah, and she thought it had something to
do with the pregnancy or a sexually transmitted disease Day had brought home. Like many black

Introduction According to the U.S. Census Bureau, Americans aged 65 and older account for 13
percent of the total population. This group increased by two percent each year between 2001 and
2009. And estimates show that the number of older Americans will only increase, with the first wave
of Baby Boomers turning 65 in 2011. Over the next 15 years, America s population aged 65 and older
is projected to grow by another 60 percent. Currently, 16 percent of the nation s drivers are 65 or
older, up from 14 percent in 2000. Projections show that one in every five drivers will be 65 or older
by 2025. (AASHTO (2012)) Figure 1: Age Distribution and Median Age: 1960 to 2010 (Taken From
ACRP 2014) As seen in the paragraph and figure above there are many Americans that are older than
the age of 65 and in a few more years there will be even more that are still driving. Not only is it very
difficult to drive at an older age but it is very difficult for elderly people to travel in general when their
mobility is not as well as it was in the past. This paper will explain the policies, standards and
strategies our country is using to help ensure elderly people will be able to travel by cars, planes, and
any other form of transportation that can be offered to them. While older men drive more than women
of the same age, the gap is narrowing as older women remain more mobile. These women have
attained higher economic and education levels than during previous generations, affording them

Janet Waking By John Crowe Ransom
The poem, Janet Waking , symbolizes a turning point in a child s life. It starts out with a young kid in
a slumber, and it ends with a mourning of a beloved pet. This shift that John Crowe Ransom creates
shows just how drastic this step in life was. Since the story is told from a father s point of view, we get
to look through a mature lense of how the child is impacted and just how young and undeveloped her
mind is. As the poem goes on, we finally see what message the author is trying to convey. Throughout
the poem, the poet carefully picks and constructs words and sentences that perfectly give the poem life
and meaning. Firstly, the name of the hen is Chucky. Chucky is most definitely not a common name
for a chicken, let alone for a hen.

Personal Narrative-The Old Warrior
I was only an infant when my family died. Or, at least, that s what my father told me. He had no wife,
or children of his own, and though we did not share blood, the old warrior took me under his wing,
and offered the me the same love as he would to his own kin. I will always admire the kindness he
gave to me. There were many times when my father would try and teach me to fight, to pass his
knowledge of battle onto me. However, his efforts were in vain. I was not born with the strength or
skill of a warrior. I was slim, and meek. I never spoke out of term and always did my best to keep to
the background. At the age of eight, I had grown taller than the other children. But my skinny arms did
very little for me in ways of strength. I was not fast, nor agile. In the summer, we would race down ...

I shut my eyes tightly as I saw the glint of a skinning knife. This was an accessory that one of those
boy would often brandish. A gift from his father, a sign of his maturity and oncoming manhood. I
gritted my teeth as the dull blade roughly rocked against my strained hair, painfully severing each
strand until my long locks had been turned into a short mess of damaged ends. It was their trophy. A
sign of a successful hunt. They had triumphantly cut my dignity from my body, they let me go. I could
not run. I had grown weak from their torment. My body instinctively curled itself, as I tucked my
knees to my chest. I remember feeling lifeless. I did not come home that night. I was sitting by a tide
pool, watching the sun begin to slip beneath the ocean s horizon. Smooth waters, sparsely dotted by
sailing boats, returning to their homes, the winds carried itself out to sea, bringing with it the
reassuring scent of hearth fires. My short hair would blow into my eyes, and I would struggle to keep
strands of deep brown from blocking my vision of the soft

she is also a victim of abuse, repeatedly raped by her stepfather and Mister. When the novel begins to
unfold, we learn that Celie lacks power and she believes she is more of an object rather than a human
being due to all the torture she has been put through the majority of her life. When Celie begins to talk
to Sofia that is when we first find out that she knows that men see her as a powerless object. Clie
admits that she is indeed jealous of Sofia for being able to stand up to her husband and defend herself

Research Paper On Mengele
Introduction [attention getter] Mengele once said, The more we do to you, the less you seem to believe
we are doing it. [topic justification] Mengele is very important to the Holocaust because he shows that
Nazis didn t care. They didn t care if the Jews suffered and died, they just knew Hitler was their leader
and wanted to keep their family safe. [credibility] Research shows that Mengele did many experiments
on camp prisoners. [orientation] WWII started September 1st 1939 and lasted until September 2nd
1945. The holocaust started January 30th 1933 and ended May 8th 1945. This all started because
Hitler didn t like the jews and ordered his people to take out all Jews. [preview of main ideas/thesis]

into the hearts and killing them, which then he dissected every inch of their bodies. iii. [analysis of

happen to them. iv. [support for III] One experiment he tried was injecting chemicals into the subject s

Oberhauser, was inhumane. She rubbed grounded glass into open wounds, killed with oil and evipan
injections, and removed vital organs. vi. [transition statement] Most say they remember Josef as the
man that would give them chocolates and treat them like family, some even called him Uncle Josef .
III. Conclusion [summary] No matter the Nazi they thought they were doing what was right, what
their country needed. Mengele helped us learn a lot of things about twins and others, not in the best
way, but we are now more educated about the human body and twins. Still, no matter the Nazi they

Social Events In Colonial America
Social events differed between the working and middle class. The types of social events one went or
where they sat in a social event determined their wealth and place in the social structure. Just like the
movies and television shows you may watch, the theatres in North America incorporate the same idea.
The people on the television are acting out a script like the people in stage in a theatre hall are acting
out a play. Theatres were popular among the middle and upper class people. The hall was where
people were able to proclaim their wealth and availability. By the end of the 18th century Canadian
theatre was growing rapidly and developing all over the region. A resemblance of Europe, the British

the museum you are standing in, around the 19th century many museums began to appear. The
Museum of Natural History was established in 1842 by Abraham Gesner. The museums and theatres
promotes civic and culture value within the colonies. The recreational time of middle class people was
often spent at the theatres and museums. Now think of your favourite drink to have in public. Is it
soda, a milkshake, juice? In addition, think of your a public place to drink. This is the idea of a tavern
in the 19th century. It was a lodge in people could stop and have an alcoholic beverage and food.
Public pub houses or taverns were popular among the working class. Taverns could serve as resting
places for the traveling, town meetings, coroner s inquests, and political meetings. Taverns were part
of the everyday home and work routine. Taverns services included food, lodging, and alcohol. The
tavern was a common place for people to spend their time, their would tell stories, play cards, and

Tim Burton Cinematic Techniques
Tim Burton used to be a brand new movie director and was fired from Disney because he couldn t

does drawings help create animated movies but different cinematic movies help too. Burton uses
Lighting and Camera Movement to display a feeling of quirkiness in his viewers and communicate an
overall theme of how it doesn t take a super talented person to create a movie all it takes is some
Cinematic Techniques and your imagination. One cinematic technique that he uses is lighting and it is
mainly used to display the tone or mood of the movie. In the movie Charlie and the Chocolate Factory,

Therefore, it was not until the 7th semester that I was introduced to the flied of transportation. It was

This research began by a concern about Tehran s ever decreasing air quality. We ran a comparative
review on studies conducted around the world and in Tehran, finding out that the void was in fact in
statistic approaches rather than deterministic. It was vital to be organized and .... as possible in
selecting our approach to overcome limitations imposed by quality and quantity of the available data.
The project involved a comprehensive data base development mostly from online sources, such as
Open Street Map, google distance API, weather APIs, also, the land use variables were extracted using
ArcGIS. Now that variables responsible for spatial and temporal variation of air pollution have been
generated and merged, we are working on econometrics models to explain the air pollution, using
python. We are currently gathering traffic data for another 2 month while developing our primary
models with a smaller sample of data. After finalizing the model with the full data set, we answer
questions such as to what extent length of road, traffic jams, residential heating systems, etc.
contribute to Tehran s air pollution.

Each year a person who tried to make it less polluted or tried to take away one of the many problems. In 2007, Al Gore was given the prize. The most significant effect is climate change and global warming of which the people have created. This is true because as the months come and go, it is getting harder and harder to ignore the fact that the world is in danger. In the last few months, it has been harder and harder to misinterpret the signs that our world is spinning out of kilter (Nobel Speech p. 15) This is true because with more and more pollution in the tiny shell of the atmosphere, it is getting harder to ignore that the Earth as many know it is getting changed in a bad way. Through a series of religious realisations, Lenz comes to question the power of God. When delivering the sermon Lenz initially feels improved however it seemed to him that the universe was full of wounds; this caused him deep unspeakable pain. One can infer that Lenz has realised the suffering of those around him that questions his own reliance on religion as crutch. Moreover, it could imply a lack of faith in God. It is after these religious realisations that Lenz has episodes of madness. He was alone, alone! The brook murmured, streams poured from his eyes, he hunched himself together, his limbs quivered and he felt he must disintegrate, so endless was the voluptuous pleasure of it. At last it dawned upon him: he felt a deep pity for himself, he wept for himself; his head sank upon his breast and he fell asleep. In this instance, hunched quivered and disintegrate connote unnatural movement that could infer Lenz s mental state. Fields Fraud and the Creation of Sarbanes Oxley Following the multitude of fraud scandals in the early 2000 s, such as Enron and WorldCom, many accounting firms found themselves as part of a thorough investigation to determine what exactly caused the sudden outburst of accounting fraud. As investors and creditors pursued their lost money from the these business failures, accounting firms began to garner attention for not fulfilling their due process during the audit to detect the fraud before it grew to the extent in which it did. Current economic conditions and other internal factors may raise the inherent risks for a particular account. Some transactions that are routine, noncomplex, and systematically processed may have lower inherent risks, while other routine transactions, such as cash transactions, are more susceptible to fraud and, therefore, have greater inherent risk (Clark 2009). Detection risk is the risk that substantive procedures may be ineffective in detecting errors. As your risk of material misstatement increases, an auditor must prepare an audit plan with more effective substantive procedure. By multiplying these risks together you arrive at the audit risk; defined by SAS 107, Audit Risk and Materiality in Conducting an Audit, as the positive opinion of an auditor of financial statements that are materially misstated and unknowingly failed to be appropriately modified. As stated earlier, audit risks can never be fully eliminated. Normally, the formula is used to solve for detection risk after establishing an acceptable audit risk (usually 5 10%) based on factors surrounding the company, industry, and background of the client. The determination of detection risks ultimately plays a major role in planning the audit and establishing a materiality threshold. The audit opinion is directly influenced by the amount and type of audit evidence ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 6. The Role Of A School Counselor The role of a school counselor has taken on numerous descriptions in the last decade. Although the American School Counselor Association (ASCA) and Texas Education Code (TEC) provide the basic roles and responsibilities of school counselors, every school district and even campus has modified that description to fit the needs of the campus. Every administrator, teacher, student, and counselor may provide a different explanation of the role that counselors play in education. Regardless of the role description or explanations provided by counselors themselves, the primary focus of a school counselor is to fully develop each student s academic, career, personal, and social abilities (Tex. Educ. Code § 33.006). The role of a school counselor can be both rewarding and challenging. One of the most challenging aspects of being a school counselor is managing multiple duties (K. Hancock, personal communication, August 19, 2014). K. Hancock is also the district testing coordinator, which according to the ASCA, is noted as being an inappropriate counseling duty. The role of a school counselor, in regards to testing, is to interpret the results of these tests and to analyze them in conjunction with multiple measures of student achievement (ASCA, 2005). During testing season, K. Hancock has to utilize her time planning and preparing for state assessments rather than focusing on primary counseling roles. Despite this, she does not display authority roles and decisions, unlike her modern day counterparts. Queen Gertrude exhibited a lack of authority, despite being a Queen, and is comparable to that of the modern woman, who display more independent and leadership roles. Gertrude is not independent in the slightest. The concept of fierceness is prevalent in today s society. Women can hold their own, have a say in what they do, and what their destiny is. • 13. The Evolutionary Change Under Strong Selective Pressures Domestication is a phenomenon that has promoted significant evolutionary change under strong selective pressures (Driscoll et al. 2009). As a result of this phenomenon, various domesticated strains of flora and fauna have significantly contributed to the development of human civilization (Morey 1994; Driscoll 2009). Although it was a substantial component to our progress, it was not until the research of Dmitry K. Belyaev that we began to unravel the early stages of domestication. Assuming that these initial stages involved selection on behavior, Belyaev conducted an experimental study that placed strong selective pressures on tamability. Using the fox, Vulpes vulpes, as a model, this artificial selection developed an experimental population that expressed behavioral, morphological, and physiological characteristics of domesticated species (Belyaev 1969). Under stressful conditions, animals have the tendency to engage in avoidance responses to promote their chances of survival (Smith Vale 2006; Ranabir Reetu 2011). These avoidance responses, including fearful and/or aggressive behavior, also tend to be the primary reactions to human encounters. Belyaev suggested that as a consequence, social interactions in the early stages of domestication likely depended on animals with an inhibited response to stress. Ergo, he reasoned that selectively breeding animals expressing this behavioral response, or tamability, would likely mirror these early stages (Belyaev 1969). In ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 14. Symptoms And Symptoms Of Hallucinations Essay INTRODUCTION Hallucinations are one of the most intriguing secrets of the mind, which are characterized by false visions, sounds, taste, smell, and touch that can occur when one is awake; it has a sufficient sense of reality, but one has no control over it. Hallucinations are the form of perception. There is no particular part of the brain that is involved in hallucinating. For example, people seeing faces could have a hyperactivity in fusiform face area involved in facial recognition. People with hyperactivity in the auditory cortex might experience auditory hallucinations: hearing music, or voices, that are not there. Hallucinations can be frightening, strange, or even amusing and divine. There are numerous causes of hallucinations: they are usually experienced by people with schizophrenia, Charles Bonnet syndrome, Parkinson s disease, or other psychological and mental disorders. However, hallucinations can also be experienced by healthy individuals, who are the subjects for studying the nature and causes of hallucinations, as they do not interact with other symptoms like in patients with schizophrenia. Researchers use functional magnetic resonance imaging (fMRI) scans to track the brain activities during hallucinations. The aim of this research paper is to describe several types of hallucinations, ways of studying hallucinations, and possible treatments. DISCUSSION 1. • 16. Importance Of Humanism In Thomas More s Utopia Humanism was a movement that has influenced the Renaissance Era. According to Associate Professor of Art History, Robert Baldwin, humanism is a culture produced by urban elites to cope with...possibilities keenly experienced in the city...where divine reason ruled over base matter, mind over body, intellect over the passions (1 2). The book Utopia, written by Thomas More, includes many aspects of humanism in the society which plays a big role in the punishment of crime, greed of the people, and the equality of its systems. More states that in his contemporary society, the citizens were driven off their lands with no money, and therefore they had to resort to stealing which was punishable by death. Consequently when [people] grow up and commit the crimes that they were obviously destined to do... [the government starts] punishing them (More 27). Although the people are punished severely, the number of crimes committed are not diminishing because if death is the punishment of any crime then, if a thief [knew] that a conviction for murder will get him in no more trouble than...theft, he s naturally impelled to kill the person that he d...have robbed (More 29). The thief not only would have gotten rid of the only witness, making it easier to conceal the crime, but also persuaded other thieves to kill their victims as it would be advantageous. But in More s ideal society, a convicted thief has to return what he s stolen to its owner... [and] is sentenced to hard labor where apart from having to work very long hours, he has a perfectly comfortable life (30). Rather than killing a human being for taking an inanimate object, they are given a second chance to correct their ways, so they don t repeat the crime they committed. Also, they are treated more like people rather than monsters, so they are able to easily transition back into society. Humanism advocates human rights of the individuals and justice and equality for everyone, therefore humanists do not support the killing of human beings. This group increased by two percent each year between 2001 and 2009. And estimates show that the number of older Americans will only increase, with the first wave of Baby Boomers turning 65 in 2011. Over the next 15 years, America s population aged 65 and older is projected to grow by another 60 percent. Currently, 16 percent of the nation s drivers are 65 or older, up from 14 percent in 2000. Projections show that one in every five drivers will be 65 or older by 2025. (AASHTO (2012)) Figure 1: Age Distribution and Median Age: 1960 to 2010 (Taken From ACRP 2014) As seen in the paragraph and figure above there are many Americans that are older than the age of 65 and in a few more years there will be even more that are still driving. Not only is it very difficult to drive at an older age but it is very difficult for elderly people to travel in general when their mobility is not as well as it was in the past. This paper will explain the policies, standards and strategies our country is using to help ensure elderly people will be able to travel by cars, planes, and any other form of transportation that can be offered to them. While older men drive more than women of the same age, the gap is narrowing as older women remain more mobile. These women have attained higher economic and education levels than during previous generations, affording them ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 25. Janet Waking By John Crowe Ransom The poem, Janet Waking , symbolizes a turning point in a child s life. It starts out with a young kid in a slumber, and it ends with a mourning of a beloved pet. This shift that John Crowe Ransom creates shows just how drastic this step in life was. Since the story is told from a father s point of view, we get to look through a mature lense of how the child is impacted and just how young and undeveloped her mind is. As the poem goes on, we finally see what message the author is trying to convey. Throughout the poem, the poet carefully picks and constructs words and sentences that perfectly give the poem life and meaning. Firstly, the name of the hen is Chucky. Chucky is most definitely not a common name for a chicken, let alone for a hen. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 26. Personal Narrative-The Old Warrior I was only an infant when my family died. Or, at least, that s what my father told me. He had no wife, or children of his own, and though we did not share blood, the old warrior took me under his wing, and offered the me the same love as he would to his own kin. I will always admire the kindness he gave to me. There were many times when my father would try and teach me to fight, to pass his knowledge of battle onto me. However, his efforts were in vain. I was not born with the strength or skill of a warrior. I was slim, and meek. I never spoke out of term and always did my best to keep to the background. At the age of eight, I had grown taller than the other children. But my skinny arms did very little for me in ways of strength. I was not fast, nor agile. In the summer, we would race down ... A gift from his father, a sign of his maturity and oncoming manhood. I gritted my teeth as the dull blade roughly rocked against my strained hair, painfully severing each strand until my long locks had been turned into a short mess of damaged ends. It was their trophy. A sign of a successful hunt. They had triumphantly cut my dignity from my body, they let me go. I could not run. I had grown weak from their torment. My body instinctively curled itself, as I tucked my knees to my chest. I remember feeling lifeless. I did not come home that night. I was sitting by a tide pool, watching the sun begin to slip beneath the ocean s horizon. Smooth waters, sparsely dotted by sailing boats, returning to their homes, the winds carried itself out to sea, bringing with it the reassuring scent of hearth fires. My short hair would blow into my eyes, and I would struggle to keep strands of deep brown from blocking my vision of the soft ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The project involved a comprehensive data base development mostly from online sources, such as Open Street Map, google distance API, weather APIs, also, the land use variables were extracted using ArcGIS. Now that variables responsible for spatial and temporal variation of air pollution have been generated and merged, we are working on econometrics models to explain the air pollution, using python. We are currently gathering traffic data for another 2 month while developing our primary models with a smaller sample of data. After finalizing the model with the full data set, we answer questions such as to what extent length of road, traffic jams, residential heating systems, etc. contribute to Tehran s air pollution.
