Epistemology And Belief Of Epistemology Essay
In this paper I will be writing about knowledge and belief referring to epistemology. I will be
answering questions such as, What is knowledge and What is belief . I will also answer other
questions related to the epistemology of knowledge and beliefs. Before we get into knowledge and
beliefs, we must define what epistemology is and why epistemology is important. What is
epistemology? The word itself derives from two Greek words: Episteme meaning knowledge and
understanding and Logia meaning science of study. In philosophy, epistemology is the study of
knowledge, in general. Examples of epistemological questions would be; what does knowledge mean,
how does a person get to know something, and what is the basis for true knowledge. Epistemology has
to do with how people s minds are connected to reality, whether invalid or valid. What is the
importance of epistemology? Epistemology explains our way of thinking. Through the correct use of
evaluation, epistemology is necessary to be able to separate what is true and what is false. We couldn t
think if not for epistemology. In other words, we wouldn t have a reason to trust our thinking was
valid. We would anything we see or hear to be true. An inaccurate epistemology would lead us to not
know how to separate truth and mistaken truth. Obviously, there are consequences to inaccurate
epistemology. The level that our epistemology is accurate is the level in which we grasp to concept of
reality, and the level in which we use

Airline Alliance Advantages
Airline alliance can be defined as an agreement that consist of multiple independent airline to partner
up or collaborate in various streamline costs activities and expanding market penetration and global
reach (Hu, Caldentey, Vulcano, 2013). Nowadays there is a lot of Airline Alliance in the globe that
serve in many different regions throughout the world with the purpose to expands each existing airline
in the alliance network by using the code sharing, reciprocal agreements, frequent flyers programme
and many other more (Pitfield, 2007). Currently there are three main Airline Alliance that consist of
numerous number of airlines in each alliance. The Airline Alliance are Skyteam, Oneworld, and Sky
Alliances. As stated before each one of the alliance have the same purpose which is code sharing,
frequent flyers programme and many other more. The rise of the airline alliances has given significant
positive impacts towards the industry, passengers and the airline itself. According to Pitfield (2007),
the airline alliances give serious impact in term of passenger traffic, market shares and concentration.
The rise of the airline alliance has given advantages and privileged to the airlines. Some of the
advantages of an airline that joined alliance, it will able the airline to use code sharing within the
alliance member itself. For example, the member of One World will cooperate with one another in
through extensive and even the frequent flyer programs (Fan, Langlois, Geissler,

A lot of credit card debt can lower your credit rating.
Alternate Text
Group
Your credit score is a complicated mix of factors, such as how much you owe, how timely your
payments are, the kind of credit you have and how long you ve had that credit. Rating companies use
proprietary formulas to come up with your credit score, which is used to determine how credit worthy
you are. Lenders use this to decide whether to loan you money and, if they make the loan, how high
your interest rate will be. Paying off your debts can help to raise your credit score and make it easier
for you to get new credit, such as a mortgage or a new car loan. Exactly how much paying off a credit
card helps you varies, but there is no question that paying off even a single card will help.
FICO
The Fair Isaac Company is one of the most commonly used sources of credit ratings, a number often
referred to as your FICO score. While the company won t reveal exactly how they come up with the
number, the company s consumer information page reports that 35 percent of your FICO score is
based on whether your payments are made on time, and 30 percent of it is determined by how much
money you owe to creditors. Changing either of these two things can have a ... Show more content on

Generally, the higher your credit score, the more damage a negative account can do. Every maxed out
credit card you have can drop your credit score by anywhere from 10 to 45 points, depending on
where your score started. It stands to reason that completely paying off a maxed out credit card can
raise your score by the same amount. If you have a lot of debt and pay off a credit card with a small
balance, it may only improve your FICO score by a few points. Still, any increase is to your benefit. If
you pay off a larger credit card balance that substantially reduces your level of debt, it will increase

Signor Antonio, the man who signed a bond stating a pound of flesh was to be given to me if the
money was not repaid is standing here before me, alive and well. He receives no punishment for what
he did to me, however, here I stand, the tables have turned and now I am receiving the biggest
punishment of all. What do I do now? My possessions, my livelihood, my beliefs all gone; all taken
away from me. My daughter has run away with some Christian man. Lorenzo they say his name is,

The Mother Archetype Of James Joyce s Dubliners
The Mother Archetype in James Joyce s Dubliners
An archetype is an instantly recognizable, fundamental theme, character, or symbol. According to Carl
Jung, archetypes are part of the collective unconscious, an inherent, species wide knowledge base that
is embedded in our natural and cultural identity (Boeree, Webspace). One example of a Jungian
archetype is the mother. In the stories The Boarding House and A Mother from Dubliners, James
Joyce explores the two aspects of the mother archetype and how they manifest themselves in the ways
Mrs. Mooney and Mrs. Kearney protect and control their daughters.
The mother archetype comprises two potential manifestations. Jung describes the loving and the
terrible mother:
The qualities ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
She was a big imposing woman who dealt with moral problems as a cleaver deals with meat (47, 49).
Her manipulativeness would seem to condemn her as a terrible mother who merely wishes to foist her
daughter onto some poor, unsuspecting sap. She thought of some mothers she knew who could not get
their daughters off their hands (50). However there is evidence that Mrs. Mooney does truly care for
her daughter and wants the best for her. Some mothers would be content to patch up such an affair for
a sum of money; she had known cases of it. But she would not do so. For her, only one reparation
could make up for the loss of her daughter s honour: marriage. She is balanced between the loving and
terrible mother, simultaneously embodying both aspects of the archetype. To begin with she had all the
weight of social opinion on her side: she was an outraged mother (Joyce 50). Mrs. Mooney is able to
maintain the moral high ground and secure society s approval despite her questionable conduct
because she is fulfilling her archetypal role.
In contrast, Mrs. Kearney is unable to achieve the archetypal balance, and fails in her maternal role.
The title of the story is ironic, because Mrs. Kearney fails as a mother. She starts off well, trying to
take advantage of the Irish Revival to benefit her daughter.
When the Irish Revival began to be appreciable Mrs. Kearney determined to take advantage of her
daughter s name

Brief History Of Computers Essay
The history of computers is a long and fascinating one. The computer was initially born out of
necessity, not just for entertainment, which is more or less how much people utilize computers these
days. In fact, computers were born out of a need to solve a serious number crunching crisis. By 1880,
the U.S. population had grown so large that it took more than seven years to tabulate the U.S. Census
results. The government sought a faster way to get the job done, giving rise to punch card based
computers that took up entire rooms. (Zimmermann) Today, we carry more computing power on our
smartphones than was available in these early models. The following brief history of computing is a
timeline of how computers evolved from their humble beginnings to the machines of today that surf
the Internet, play games and stream multimedia in addition to crunching numbers. (Zimmermann)
1801: In France, Joseph Marie Jacquard invents a loom that uses punched wooden cards to
automatically weave fabric designs. Early computers would use similar punch cards. 1822: English
mathematician Charles Babbage conceives of a steam driven calculating machine that would be able
to compute tables of numbers. The project, funded by the English government, is a failure. More than
a century later, however, the world s first computer was actually built. 1890: Herman Hollerith designs
a punch card system to calculate the 1880 census, accomplishing the task in just three years and
saving the government $5

Employers and employees have the legal duty to ensure that the working environment is a safe and
secure one.
Employer responsibilities are: to ensure, so far as it is reasonable practicable, that the working
environment is a secure and healthy one for all employees and for other persons that may come in
contact assuring that all the information is drawn to everybody s attention.
On the other hand the Employee s responsibilities are: When doing their job, take care not to harm
themselves or the others Respect the rules and co operate with employers in order to meet the statutory
requirements Not to misuse anything provided to protect their safety, health and welfare
2. Explain the purpose of following health, safety and security procedures in a business environment.
Having specific procedures regarding health, safety and security and follow them is a very important
aspect in a business environment.
One reason for following the health, safety and security procedures is the legal aspect. Both the
employers and employee must comply with the law and rules: the organisation must take specific
actions (prepare documentation on the procedures and choosing personnel to be responsible for this
aspect), the staff and other persons must respect the procedures.
Another reason is the moral one: the purpose of following the procedures is to make sure no one
comes to any harm. This aspect refers to both of the parties (the

Child Corruption And Child Trafficking
With money running the world, it is not unexpected that corruption and child trafficking are entwined
at the most rudimentary level. Often, money is the driving factor of most forms of child trafficking,
whether it is a result of the victim desperately seeking out employment to support themselves and their
family or the perpetrator utilizes their financial control over the victim to retain their product.
Unfortunately, due to their very nature, children are considered some of the most vulnerable and
sought after targets for traffickers. In a 2005 International Labor Organization report, there is an
estimated that 980,000 to 1,225,000 children both boys and girls are in a forced labor situation as a
result of trafficking across the world. In response to this pandemic, actions have been attempted by
both international organizations ( IO ) (United Nations ( U.N. ), Interpol, Non Government
Organizations ( NGO ), etc...) and state actors to reduce and prevent child trafficking. Such actions
included adopting international treaties, such as the Convention Against Corruption ( CAC ) and
Convention of the Rights of the Child ( CRC ), to address the social, economic, and cultural factors
that contributed to corruption and child trafficking. From there, many nations states established
domestic legislation by either directly or indirectly adopting provisions in the international treaties to
provide a means to criminalize the immoral perpetrators and protect the victims of

Film Of Tomorrow Analysis
The Film of tomorrow will resemble the person who made it, and the number of spectators will be
proportional to the number of friends the director has, a quote by Francois Truffaut. This quote
explains Truffaut s belief in the Auteur theory and how films should become more personal to it s
director. Also, he mentions that the number of spectators would be equal to the number of friends the
director had, and I think he meant that since film s were so personal, viewers were connected in some
way when watching, therefore were considered friends which was more meaningful then just normal
viewers . In Auteur Theory, the director has control over all aspects of the film, which conveys a film
that reflects their consistent vision. This was true for the director Francois Truffaut and Orson Wells.
During the French New Wave of cinema the directors created their films to be more self reflective and
had the focus be on the techniques rather than the narrative. This new style of film made their films
excel and remain very well known. This essay will discuss directors Francois Truffaut and Orson
Wells, and their unique signature film techniques and elements of cinematography. Francois Truffaut
was a director who employed techniques that have a distinguishable style and he believed, the Film of
tomorrow will not be directed by civil servants of camera, but by artist for whom shooting a film
constitutes a wonderful and thrilling adventure. In Traffaut s well known film 400

terminology they will be using in order to understand the process they need to carry out as well as
terminology associated with criminal justice. Someone who does not know the proper terminology in
either field could find themselves unable to understand exactly what it is they are supposed to discover

There are several different types of data collection methods. It is up to the researcher to decide if one
type of data collection will be used or if several types of data collection will be used. Data can be
collected through observation, reanalysis of existing data, questionnaires, or interviews (Hagan, 2010).
It should be mentioned that data collection is in fact the research step. This step can be very involved
and time consuming. A person will be required to gather any and all information available on their
chosen subject. If the desired information is lacking, then he or she will need to create the data. This
data will then need to be compiled into one place for the researcher to analyze it. After analyzing the
data, any and all findings should be presented. This can be a rather lengthy step because summarizing,
reporting, statistically analyzing, and presenting the findings can consume more time than all the other
steps combined (Hagan, 2010).
Finally, conclusions, interpretations, and limitations should be drawn from the research. This is the
step in which the researcher will explain what he or she believes the study has to say. Throughout the
research process and especially at this juncture, the researcher must take care to keep his or her
personal beliefs and feelings out of their work (Hagan, 2010).
As previously mentioned, it is important that someone wanting to be involved in research in criminal
justice

The Over-Glorification Of Che Guevara
To a large extent, popular culture glorifies the revolutionary, Che Guevara, by omitting his fatal flaws
and by turning his image into one of positivity and chic revolution. Che has become a pop culture icon
through his image appearing on t shirts, paintings and other popular media. While the trend is a
familiar one in Cuba, where his original supporters come from, it has become a western norm. Many
people will support Che through purchasing products in relation to him without knowing about him, or
what he stands for. Although Che was a heroic figure during the revolution to overthrow the
dictatorship of Batista, pop culture has influenced the masses to believe that he should be celebrated
but it fails to acknowledge his problematic qualities. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

justify his actions by saying that they are in aid of those living in poverty, giving him a type of power
that people cannot oppose due to being seen as someone who has no morality. Che tried to regulate the
lives of the people living in Cuba, but failed to abide by the same regulations on alcohol, informal
gambling and relations between men and women.
Cuba is still a communist country, but it still battles with people living in poverty (I). An image of a

vain because his main reason for having a communist takeover was to eradicate poverty, and yet that
is still the reality in Cuba today. Even though that is the reality, an image of Che appears alongside this

a major production of movies along the road and introduction to big world famous stars that helped
with the expansion of the entertainment business. Hollywood became an overnight success during the

MPLS works by prefixing packets with an MPLS header, containing one or more labels . This is called

field for QoS (quality of service) priority (experimental) and ECN (Explicit Congestion Notification).
● A 1 bit bottom of stack flag. If this is set, it signifies that the current label is the last in the stack. ●

I Am A Great Leader
Leaders are everywhere and when I think of great leaders I have had the pleasure of interacting with,
the first ones that come to my mind are my Grandparents, Virgil and June Watts. After my first
thought, my mind floods with many other people who I consider great leaders but my Grandparents
are always the first that I think of as great leaders. My Grandpa taught me about hard work, respect,
the importance of family, and the ability to understand you may not always get along so you have to
learn to compromise sometimes. My Grandma taught me how to love, give to others, cook, and
provide for ourselves and others with what we have available. One of the most important thing my
Grandparents taught me though was, to have a passion and put one hundred percent into it. My
Grandpa with his love of music and entertaining people with playing music and my Grandma with her
love of sewing and making beautiful dresses and quilts.
I spent many nights and days with my Grandparents and often see them as playing the biggest role in
the person I turned out to be. When it comes to personal values and morals, I ve shaped most of mine
from what they have shown me. Although we disagree politically, I learned so much from them about
what it means to be a great leader. They taught me honesty, even when it gets myself in trouble.
Loyalty, is another trait that I learned from my Grandparents, even if it means standing up alone. They
taught me compassion, having the ability to show everyone kindness

Essay on Response to Bitzer s Rhetorical Situation
In The Rhetorical Situation, Lloyd F. Bitzer argues that what makes a situation rhetorical is similar to
that which constitutes a moral action as he writes that, an act is moral because it is an act performed in
a situation of a certain kind; similarly, a work is rhetorical because it is a response to a situation of a
certain kind .(3) By defining the rhetorical situation in this way, Bitzer further contends that rhetoric is
a means to altering reality. (4) It is through the use of discourse that one is capable of changing reality
through thought and action. (4) Bitzer then elaborates upon the nature of a rhetorical situation by
explaining that rhetorical discourse enters a situation when: providing a response to its state of affairs;

Although Bitzer continues in the third section of his essay, by outlining the general characteristics or
features of a rhetorical situation, it is his discussion of sophistical rhetoric that is most interesting. (11)
He notes that a sophistic situation is one where a contrived exigence is, asserted to be real... alleged
constituents are due to error or ignorance,... and [it derives] from fantasy in which exigence, audience,
and constraints may all be imaginary objects of a mind at play . (11) He concludes that, rhetoric is
distinguished from the mere craft of persuasion which, although it is a legitimate object of scientific
investigation, lacks philosophical warrant as a practical discipline . (14) While Bitzer s insights into
how one may think about the way in which rhetorical discourse acts upon and therefore alters the
reality of a situation, it is difficult to see his point in stating that the mere craft of persuasion lacks
philosophical warrant as a practical discipline. The clearest reason it seems, is implied from the
examples that Bitzer uses, none of which are theological or religious in nature, but rather the examples
he provides are usually political. Although one is left to speculate as to what categories Bitzer would
include in sophistical rhetoric (other than a play or novel), might theological and religious discourse
be subsumed under

Edelman Leave No Child Behind Summary
People have different interpretations of what success may mean to them. In the article, Leave No
Child Behind by Marian Wright Edelman, the author explains many lessons on the steps to become
successful. According to some, success is measured by social status and wealth. I agree with Edelman
s lessons that there is no free lunch, we should not be afraid of taking risks or being criticized, and we
should never think that life is not worth living.
I agree that there is no such thing as free lunch. I notice there is nothing given to us without a price tag
on it. One time I remembered when I really wanted the new Barney rolling backpack. I told my
mother I wanted it. She told me that I would have to work for it, or else I would not receive it. There I
was, a little 8 year old girl, cleaning around the entire house. Edelman says, Don t feel entitled to
anything you don t sweat and struggle for. I agree with Edelman that if we do not put hard work and
sweat into wanting what we want, then we will not achieve it. In a related incident, which I ... Show

Pregnancy Discrimination in the Workplace
Wilkie, Christina. (2012, September 29). Pregnancy discrimination in the workplace Summary
According to the article Pregnancy discrimination in the workplace target of new EEOC crackdown,
the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission is focusing on the problem of discrimination against
pregnant women in the workplace as part of its renewed vigor in enforcing anti discrimination laws.
During the past week, the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC) has filed four
pregnancy discrimination related lawsuits and settled a fifth just weeks after the government s
workplace discrimination law enforcement arm announced a plan to target employers who illegally
discriminate against pregnant women (Wilkie 2012). Discriminating against a woman because she is
pregnant or may become pregnant is against the law, just as discriminating against someone because
of race, religion, ethnicity, or other protected status. Description The EEOC website states: the
Pregnancy Discrimination Act (PDA) forbids discrimination based on pregnancy when it comes to any
aspect of employment, including hiring, firing, pay, job assignments, promotions, layoff, training,
fringe benefits, such as leave and health insurance, and any other term or condition of employment
(Pregnancy discrimination, 2012, EEOC). Pregnancy is considered a temporary disability, and as such
employers must provide the employee with alternative assignments or lighter duties, disability or

James Weldon Johnson Essay
James Weldon Johnson James Weldon Johnson (1871 1938), was a highly talented and celebrated

Along with this viewpoint, he stessed black distinctiveness within notions of spirituality and creativity.
In much of his works, this idea of black distinctiveness was paralled with the legitimacy of black
literary independence, another concept of which he was a proponent.
While Johnson was a highly celebrated and versatile literary figure, his most well known work is The
Autobiography of an Ex Colored Man . Even though this title suggests that this work was his own
story, it was actually a novel, the first African American one to mask itself as an autobiography. In this
novel, the illegitimate son of a southern white man and his mulatto mistress struggles to find his
identity and place in the world. Being light skinned, he does not discover his black blood until he is

Somalia s Struggle for Power Essay example
Somalia s struggle for power to establish a sovereign Somali state has raised international concerns of
terrorism, piracy, human trafficking and famine causing instability locally and throughout the Horn of
Africa. Although U.S. backed Somali Federal Government (SFG) has had some recent success against
the al Qaeda (AQ) linked al Shabaab, Somalia continue to face local and regional border disputes.
Somalia has historically relied on outside actors who later abandoned Somalia due to a shift in foreign
policy and interest. This paper will prove that the power for struggle in Somalia is the root cause of
instability in Somalia and throughout the Horn of Africa. This will be explored by examining Somali s

Ethiopia s armed responses only strengthen Mohammed s cause in the Ogaden region. The Mad
Mohammed s Dervish campaigns lasted from 1899 1904, until the British, and Ethiopian troops, and
Somali s who were against Mohammed s Dervish tactics, mounted various successful campaigns
against Mohammed (Gorman, 1981). With Mohammed s strength nearly eliminated, he agreed to a
peace deal in 1904. Mohammed and his followers were allowed to settle in the northern part of Italian
Somalia where he was recognized as the ruler by the Europeans. Regardless of the peace deal,
Mohammed s cause began to draw support from other Somali tribes and the fighting continued until
his natural death in 1920. Like Gran, Mohammed had failed to unite Somali clans; however the two
Somali nationalists have laid a physiological impact on Somali s against Ethiopians and foreigners

Italian Somalia joined to form the Republic of Somalia in June 1960. Somali s now could claim

Management accounting provides information to internal users which include managers and

Labor Unions And The Industrial Age
In 1900, 18 percent of all American workers were under the age of 16 (Yellowitz,
http://www.history.com/topics/child labor). For years people have gone back and forth on whether or
not labor unions are actually beneficial to workers or if unions are harmful to the economy. Labor
unions first started popping up as early as 1794 and started catching on in the 1880s with the
introduction of The Knights of Labor. (Staff, http://www.history.com/topics/knights of labor) Unions
grew in response to terrible working conditions, long hours, zero benefits, very low wages, and child
labor. The opponents of labor unions were around even before then. When the industrial age began
and people started moving to the cities, many employers took advantage of the high numbers of
people in search for work and treated them more as numbers and expendable machines than people.
The workers maybe got enough to live on after working for most of the day, everyday, for most of
their lives. Even the children had to work those same hours instead of enjoying their childhood. The
flip side to all of that is that the economy expanded and there were many people who got rich through
that system. Overall, labor unions were extremely beneficial not only to American workers but also to
the American economy because they improved working conditions, eliminated child labor, and
because the more money workers received, the more money they spent and put back into the economy.
On one hand labor unions did a lot to

Images are More Powerful than Words
The American Heritage College Dictionary defines the term image as An optically or electronically
formed representative reproduction of an object, esp. an optical reproduction formed by a lens or a
mirror. This is what is more commonly referred to as a picture. The definition of a word is a sound or
combination of sounds, or its representation in writing or printing that symbolizes and communicates a
meaning and may consist of a single morpheme or a combination of morphemes. In fact, there is a
constant debate about the importance and significance of both forms of communication. Because
either one can be interpreted and considered differently, depending on who the viewer or reader is, ...

Even though both the tour guide and a pamphlet told everyone exactly what the organization s purpose
was, the Mural actually said more than needed to be said, without the aid of any words. One can agree
with Mitchell Stephens statement in By Means of the Visible: A Picture s Worth that certain pictures
can put most sentences to shame (486), because the images illustrated in this Mural put, every single
word that was written in the UN pamphlet or spoken by the tour guide, to shame. They gave a deeper
and more spiritual meaning, that went above and beyond the mere one dimensional meaning, of the
words used, both written and spoken.
Since motion pictures are a form of imagery, the next image is from the movie, Coming to America.
The chosen image was when Akeem, the Prince of Zamunda, was getting married at the end of the

The Pact Between Tata Motors and Fiat

International marketing is an important factor in serving organizations to develop into becoming

competing with a global organization. Therefore, what does it take to move an organization globally?
According to Cateora, Gilly, and Graham (2013), international marketing is the performance of
business activities designed to plan, price, promote, and direct flow of the companies goods and
services to consumers of users in more than one nation for profit (p. 10). International marketing

Fiat needing a partner
As previously indicated, Fait was faced with economic issues. They turned to their defined strategy
which consisted of a targeted coalition through the automobile value chain (Cullen Parboteeah, 2011).
This meant that the two organizations would syndicate together in product development, the
manufacturing of the products, the sourcing of raw materials, and the distribution of their goods. Both
companies would utilize each other to gain strength in the automobile industry. This strategy was a
strong move towards gaining market share within India and other global markets such as Europe and
Latin America. Fiat was extremely slow moving in acclimating to the changes in the economic market
and needed an innovative vision to be successful.
Fiat and Tata as partners
Fiat had some very tough competition in India and one of the fiercest was Tata Motors. In the business
world it is essential to erect a relationship with your partners (Prabhakar, 2010). This theory proved to
work for Fiat. This partnership help both companies experience growth through the use of each other s

Going To High School
It was eighth grade year and the time came to decide what school I would be attending for the next
four years at the high school level. At the time, I was attending a small catholic elementary school,
Regina Coeli, where there were only twenty students in my class. There was no high school to directly
advance to from Regina Coeli, once you finished your eighth grade year you split off from everyone
else and were forced to choose the high school in which you would attend. Who knew going to high
school was going to be a significant change for me environmentally and academically.
The majority of my friends that I spent all of my childhood years growing up with decided to go to
Central Catholic or Cardinal Stritch. After I heard that all of my friends were going to attend the other
two schools it made my decision much more difficult. I was stuck between the two and it was one of
the most difficult decisions I ve ever had to make in my life. Ever since I was a kid I had my mind set

Uranium Mining in Australia Essay
To what extent should there be limitation on the mining of uranium in Australia ?
Uranium has become a big issue as an alternative energy resource in the future due to the shortage of
fossil fuel as a primary energy resource in the world. Australia is one of country that has the largest
uranium deposits in the globe. So, Australia has important opportunity to make a lot of money from
uranium exports to other countries. However, the Australian Government is still debating this issue
because of the negative impact of uranium mining and exploration. For these reason, some people
believe that uranium mining has more positive impacts on the economy such as, income benefits from
uranium exports and an increase a new job opportunities. However, ... Show more content on

They also point out that the industry has forty per cent of the world uranium reserves. Based on that
reasons, the uranium industry in Australia could make a big profit from export of uranium if the
government takes it seriously. Also, they should be good regulation for uranium trading such as local
trading and international trading. So, some people think that there should not be limitations on mining
of uranium. Another argument against the limitations on uranium mining in Australia is that uranium
mining can increase job opportunities to local people in Australia. According to Greenpeace Australia
Pacific (2006), the uranium industry could create a large number of job opportunities because this
industry needs a lot of employees to support this industry. If the Australian Government expands its
uranium mining, it will create potential local jobs and it would be one solution to solve the
unemployment problem. So, some people believe that the limitation of uranium mining is not
necessary because it can reduce job opportunities in Australia. These economic concerns are important
in the uranium mining debate because the Australian Government can make huge profits from that
industry and solve the unemployment problem as well. However, there are some important aspects
that must be considered such as, uranium as the main material for nuclear weapons, nuclear power is
not efficient or effective, and there is harmful radiation from the mining of uranium. The first reason

It is remarkable that, for about 60 years thereafter, the High Court managed to pull on with just 7
Judges, although with advancing years, the laws and the litigation both multiplied. There were no
indications that this limited Bench was found inadequate to cope with the work, till about 1919. With

Criminal Rehabilitation
Criminal rehabilitation involves restoring an individual to useful life through education, and therapy.
The rehabilitation assumption is that individuals are never permanently criminals. As a result, it is
possible to reinstate a criminal to useful life where they positively contribute to the society and to
themselves. The main aim of criminal rehabilitation is the prevention of habitual offending or criminal
recidivism. Criminal rehabilitation seeks to bring an offender into a normal state of mind. Through
rehabilitation, a criminal can have a changed attitude that is helpful to the society, rather than

The name originates from the reality that they halfway amid the prison and the community. The logic
behind halfway houses is often that criminal activities originate in the community. Hence,
communities have the responsibility of trying to correct the individuals. Also, sending an individual
with deviant criminal behaviour to prison will worsen the problem. As a result, the appropriate place

Continental was the Travel and Transportation Group s largest customer and we treasured our

its first bout with bankruptcy noted:
One of the most challenging aspects of this agreement was perpetuating the intentions, underlying
assumptions, and strategic objectives of the original contract. In the five years after it was signed, only
one person from Continental who sat at the negotiating table remained with the airline and only two
senior managers who lived through the outsourcing process were still here. With each generation of

Should Scotland Be An Independent Country
For decades the political relationship between the sovereign nation of England and the slightly
independent country of Scotland has caused much discourse for some Scot citizens. For almost 300
years the decisions that directly affected Scotland were decided from the Parliament at Westminster
Palace in London. This was not changed until rather recently when Scotland voted on its own
Parliament held in the capital of Edinburgh. But for some political parties and special interest groups
this act of recourse is not enough and they called for a national vote to answer the question should
Scotland be an independent country? The deciding referendum that was voted upon on September 18
of this year was the climax of the political buildup between ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

An analysis of the three most recent Scottish referendums from the years 1979, 1997, and 2014 show
that the political atmosphere has become increasingly more receptive to Scottish independence and
shifting ideologies regarding nationalism are shaping global democracies.
Geographically England and Scotland both share land on the small island northeast of continental
Europe, but the two countries did not share a government until 1707 when the legislation titled The
Union Treaty unified the nation. The death of Queen Elizabeth I in 1603 ended the Tudor line of
dynasty for the Kingdom of England resulting in James VI of Scotland (a Stuart) to become King of
England. His throne became known as the Union of the Crowns because never before had both
England and Scotland been ruled by the same monarch. For almost a hundred years the two countries
were ruled in this manner until King William s death when the throne was passed to his sister in law
Queen Anne who called for an integration of unions. Neil Oliver, historian and author of the BBC s
History of Scotland argues that Queen Anne s crown appointees that drafted the original version of the
Union Treaty that was sent before Scottish Parliament was nothing more or less than a suicide note
awaiting a signature. Essentially it was doing just that, Scottish Parliament

The Devil in the White City by Erick Larson Essay example
The pair of twins sat down in their homeroom class. One was gentle and charming, and the other was
intelligent and had a great future in store. Being twins one would think they were very alike but
secretly they were different. Sitting in homeroom no classmate would think that they were sitting next
to a new definition of evil. In The Devil in the White City by Erick Larson, he decides to include
different styles of ambition and appearance vs. reality to illustrate, that ambition can break one or
make one and everything is not what it seems. Larson s style is to add to irreverent stories together so
that the two major protagonists highlight each other s traits, one trait is their ambition. Both Holmes
and Burnham are ambitious but in two ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
His ambition was to create a game which involved the suffering of others. Killing people created him
a sort of pleasure, Holmes was enjoying himself. He had arranged the insurance fraud for money, but
the rest of it was for fun. Holmes was testing his power to bend lives of people (Larson 355). Holmes
always looked for people that he saw as weak and he used them to create his game which to him was
to see how far he could go in changing a person s life. While Geyer was investigating the
disappearances of the Pitezel children he said that all criminals had a motive but no one really saw
clearly what Holmes motive was. Later Geyer was drawn to the conclusion of Holmes wanting to have
power over people s lives. Holmes wanted to control people and produce others a suffering as he did
when Carrie Pitezel was put in a hotel by Holmes in front of the hotel her children were in, without
any of them knowing, that was his game. In the novel both Burnham and Holmes had ambitions but
both had very different ambitions, which led their lives in different paths. Burnham by having the
ambition to want Chicago to prosper became America s best architect. Holmes ambition took him to
jail and eventually to his death. The novel The Devil in the White City, illustrates that everything is
not what it seems using the character Holmes and the creation of the World s Fair. Holmes was known
as a charming doctor that starstruck every woman that he laid an eye upon. It was said by

Manufactures suggested Retail Price
Manufactures Suggested Retail Price (MSRP)
The Manufacturer s Suggested Retail Price (MSRP), list price or recommended retail price (RPP) of a
product is the cost at which the manufacture proposes that the retailer offer the product. Although the
goal is to aid to institutionalize costs, it is not often the value the retailer use or the value the
customers are willing to pay. The retailer has the freedom to sell the products at a price lower than the
MSRP to move the product faster or they can set it higher than the MRSP to bring in more profits if
the item is selling faster than initially foreseen.
The MSRP for Allround suggested retail was $5.29, according to the PharmaSim case study, The
manufacturer s suggested retail price (MSRP) for Allround is relatively high with volume discounts
ranging from 25 40%, not including promotional allowances . Our pricing decision for the PharmaSim
simulation we felt was important because consumers have alternatives to choose from and are better
informed. Our initial retail price of $5.45 was an increase from the suggested retail of $5.29 to adjust
with inflation rate of 3.1%, which boost sales from $355.3 million to $434 million totaling $78.7
million in sales growth. We purchased survey data to help establish the price. Consumers perceived
our product being the most effective in cold relief which allowed Allstar to raise the price
incrementally and consumers were still willing to purchase the product.

Essay on Authur Miller
With the Death of a Salesman during the winter of 1949 on Broadway, Arthur Miller began to live as a
playwright who has since been called one of this century s three great American dramatists. He has
also written other powerful, often mind altering plays: The Crucible, A View from the Bridge, A
Memory of Two Mondays, After the Fall, Incident at Vichy, and The Price. And who could forget the
film The Misfits and the dramatic special Playing for Time. Death of a Salesman was not Arthur
Miller s first success on Broadway. Two years before, when All My Sons opened at the Coronet
Theater, Brooks Atkinson of the New York Times wrote: quot; The theater has acquired a genuine new
talent. quot; The play also won the New York Drama Critics Circle ... Show more content on

After his graduation from Abraham Lincoln High School in Brooklyn, young Miller worked as a stock
clerk in an automobile parts warehouse for two and a half years until he had enough money to pay for
his first year at the University of Michigan. He finished college with the financial aid of the National
Youth Administration supplemented by his salary as night editor on the Michigan Daily newspaper.
Before his graduation with a BA degree in 1938, he had written a number of plays, winning a $500
Avery Hopwood Award in 1936 and a $1,200 Theater Guild National Award in 1938 for an effort
entitled The Grass Still Grows. Then, having returned to New York in 1938, he joined the Federal
Theater Project. But, before his first play had been produced, the Project ended. Dismayed and
setback, he went to work in the Brooklyn Navy Yard. Here he wrote radio scripts that were later heard
in the Columbia Workshop and on the Calvacade of America. He also wrote two books during this
period: Situation Normal (1944) and Focus, two novels about anti Semitism (1945). He had not,
however, given up playwriting. In November of 1944, his play, The Man Who Had All the Luck
opened on Broadway. Unfortunately it became much less of a success than he had hoped. Its
unfavorable reception disheartened Miller, and he decided he would write one more play. If that were
not successful, he would give up. That s when in 1947 he wrote All My Sons, his first real success,

Essay On Singlish
English is a language which is known for a very long time. From roughly 400 a.C. it started to develop
and this is still continuing. English has had a lot of invasions from languages while it eventually was
spread all over the world. Meanwhile there are a lot of different types of English. Almost in every part
of the world, English is influenced by other languages of that region. Just the same happened in
Singapore. An English based creole named Colloquial Singaporean English also known as Singlish
has developed here. At the moment there is a discussion going on about the question if the
Singaporean government should support or discourage Singlish?
Singlish is a language which has developed over a long time. It started to develop in the period of the
British colonial rule over Singapore (1816 1965). The British introduced British English and made

In fact, it is not, because it connects people, it brings people and thus a society together. The
Singaporean add a lot of value to it. Speaking Singlish is their unique identity. It is not just something
their government can decide to take away from the population, these are thoughts of a government
disconnected from their population.
Even though, the government cannot force the whole population to learn good English if people do not
want to learn it. They can point people in the right direction by showing them the benefits and
advantages of speaking good English. And in the end, the government needs to accept that Singlish is
going to stay and that it isn t their choice who wants to speak which language.
According to Colin Goh, a Singaporean filmmaker, people always play with a language which is also
the case with English and we are going to see the use of many vernaculars more and more in future.
English has always evolved and this is simply the next step of its

Dracula And The Female Sexuallity As Disease
Dracula and Carmilla Female Sexuallity as Disease
In the two classic gothic vampire tales, Carmilla and Dracula, both novels have similarities through
their displays of sexuality. Sexuallity isn t just displaying sexual intentions towards other people. The
two novels explore how vampirism represents female sexuality as a disease through different means.
In Carmilla, the character of Carmilla s vampirism is linked with disease because she has bitten Laura,
one of her many victims, and fed off of her. Through Carmilla s action of biting Laura and displaying
deep affection for her, Carmilla s female sexuality was linked to a disease. In Dracula Mina and Lucy
are two females who are both victims of vampirism and showcase how vampirism is a disease. The
novel explores how they deal with the effects of vampirism and how the men in the novel treat
vampirism. This essay explores, compares and contrasts Carmilla and Dracula through their use of
vampirism to represent female sexuality as an illness that affects the women in the novels.
Carmilla is like a disease herself, showing up unexpectedly at Laura s home. When she met Laura mist
was used as a symbol of miasma, which represents the disease of vampirism and the danger of
Carmilla s arrival (116 Willis). Throughout the story, Carmilla represented herself as a disease which
spread around quickly, as the wife of a pig farmer and daughter of a forest ranger, who are both part of
the working class, have been killed off (116 Willis).

Positive Changes In The Progressive Era
As the world came into a new century, United States flew to a new era. No longer were Americans
willing to huddle in the shadows of their rich neighbors, no longer were they willing to be used as
cheap labor, and no longer were they willing to stay quiet. The Progressive Era hit United States with
full force, screeching to halt corruption and sexist discrimination. However, as one part of Americans
experienced positive change the other part was discriminated against. The Progressive Movement
changed America extensively, yet that change was not positive for all.
A central issue of the Progressive Movement was political corruption. For many years Political
Machines plagued urban areas, bribing immigrants for votes in exchange for jobs. Moreover,
government positions were awarded for political affiliation ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

During the early 1900 s many progressives were females looking to legacy of positive change. A large
reform movement that women were involved in was the Settlement House movement. Popularized by
Jane Addams and Ellen Gates Starr who opened the Hull House, Settlement Houses boarded middle
class workers (many females) that would live in between urban slums to help out the poor though
medical knowledge and the sharing of education. These types of reforms not only helped the poor and
unfortunate, but also granted females more power. Female organizations, like the National American
Woman Suffrage Association, grew in size, and females were able to transform their traditional social
roles into public and political roles. Through these types of reforms, women were able to obtain
broader support for female suffrage, and in 1920 the 19th amendment was adopted prohibiting the
government from denying U.S. citizens the right to vote based on gender. While the Progressive Era
was progressively transforming the lives of females for the better, minorities seemed to have been left

Prior to the war, the estimation of their association with Great Britain was self evident. With its

  • 2. Epistemology And Belief Of Epistemology Essay In this paper I will be writing about knowledge and belief referring to epistemology. I will be answering questions such as, What is knowledge and What is belief . I will also answer other questions related to the epistemology of knowledge and beliefs. Before we get into knowledge and beliefs, we must define what epistemology is and why epistemology is important. What is epistemology? The word itself derives from two Greek words: Episteme meaning knowledge and understanding and Logia meaning science of study. In philosophy, epistemology is the study of knowledge, in general. Examples of epistemological questions would be; what does knowledge mean, how does a person get to know something, and what is the basis for true knowledge. Epistemology has to do with how people s minds are connected to reality, whether invalid or valid. What is the importance of epistemology? Epistemology explains our way of thinking. Through the correct use of evaluation, epistemology is necessary to be able to separate what is true and what is false. We couldn t think if not for epistemology. In other words, we wouldn t have a reason to trust our thinking was valid. We would anything we see or hear to be true. An inaccurate epistemology would lead us to not know how to separate truth and mistaken truth. Obviously, there are consequences to inaccurate epistemology. The level that our epistemology is accurate is the level in which we grasp to concept of reality, and the level in which we use ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 4. Credit Score Research Paper 2183 × 3300 Caption A lot of credit card debt can lower your credit rating. Alternate Text Group Your credit score is a complicated mix of factors, such as how much you owe, how timely your payments are, the kind of credit you have and how long you ve had that credit. Rating companies use proprietary formulas to come up with your credit score, which is used to determine how credit worthy you are. Lenders use this to decide whether to loan you money and, if they make the loan, how high your interest rate will be. Paying off your debts can help to raise your credit score and make it easier for you to get new credit, such as a mortgage or a new car loan. Exactly how much paying off a credit card helps you varies, but there is no question that paying off even a single card will help. FICO The Fair Isaac Company is one of the most commonly used sources of credit ratings, a number often referred to as your FICO score. While the company won t reveal exactly how they come up with the number, the company s consumer information page reports that 35 percent of your FICO score is based on whether your payments are made on time, and 30 percent of it is determined by how much money you owe to creditors. Changing either of these two things can have a ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Generally, the higher your credit score, the more damage a negative account can do. Every maxed out credit card you have can drop your credit score by anywhere from 10 to 45 points, depending on where your score started. It stands to reason that completely paying off a maxed out credit card can raise your score by the same amount. If you have a lot of debt and pay off a credit card with a small balance, it may only improve your FICO score by a few points. Still, any increase is to your benefit. If you pay off a larger credit card balance that substantially reduces your level of debt, it will increase your score ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 6. The Mother Archetype Of James Joyce s Dubliners The Mother Archetype in James Joyce s Dubliners An archetype is an instantly recognizable, fundamental theme, character, or symbol. According to Carl Jung, archetypes are part of the collective unconscious, an inherent, species wide knowledge base that is embedded in our natural and cultural identity (Boeree, Webspace). One example of a Jungian archetype is the mother. In the stories The Boarding House and A Mother from Dubliners, James Joyce explores the two aspects of the mother archetype and how they manifest themselves in the ways Mrs. Mooney and Mrs. Kearney protect and control their daughters. The mother archetype comprises two potential manifestations. Jung describes the loving and the terrible mother: The qualities ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... She was a big imposing woman who dealt with moral problems as a cleaver deals with meat (47, 49). Her manipulativeness would seem to condemn her as a terrible mother who merely wishes to foist her daughter onto some poor, unsuspecting sap. She thought of some mothers she knew who could not get their daughters off their hands (50). However there is evidence that Mrs. Mooney does truly care for her daughter and wants the best for her. Some mothers would be content to patch up such an affair for a sum of money; she had known cases of it. But she would not do so. For her, only one reparation could make up for the loss of her daughter s honour: marriage. She is balanced between the loving and terrible mother, simultaneously embodying both aspects of the archetype. To begin with she had all the weight of social opinion on her side: she was an outraged mother (Joyce 50). Mrs. Mooney is able to maintain the moral high ground and secure society s approval despite her questionable conduct because she is fulfilling her archetypal role. In contrast, Mrs. Kearney is unable to achieve the archetypal balance, and fails in her maternal role. The title of the story is ironic, because Mrs. Kearney fails as a mother. She starts off well, trying to take advantage of the Irish Revival to benefit her daughter. When the Irish Revival began to be appreciable Mrs. Kearney determined to take advantage of her daughter s name ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 7. Brief History Of Computers Essay The history of computers is a long and fascinating one. The computer was initially born out of necessity, not just for entertainment, which is more or less how much people utilize computers these days. In fact, computers were born out of a need to solve a serious number crunching crisis. By 1880, the U.S. population had grown so large that it took more than seven years to tabulate the U.S. Census results. The government sought a faster way to get the job done, giving rise to punch card based computers that took up entire rooms. (Zimmermann) Today, we carry more computing power on our smartphones than was available in these early models. The following brief history of computing is a timeline of how computers evolved from their humble beginnings to the machines of today that surf the Internet, play games and stream multimedia in addition to crunching numbers. (Zimmermann) 1801: In France, Joseph Marie Jacquard invents a loom that uses punched wooden cards to automatically weave fabric designs. Early computers would use similar punch cards. 1822: English mathematician Charles Babbage conceives of a steam driven calculating machine that would be able to compute tables of numbers. The project, funded by the English government, is a failure. More than a century later, however, the world s first computer was actually built. 1890: Herman Hollerith designs a punch card system to calculate the 1880 census, accomplishing the task in just three years and saving the government $5 ... Having specific procedures regarding health, safety and security and follow them is a very important aspect in a business environment. One reason for following the health, safety and security procedures is the legal aspect. Both the employers and employee must comply with the law and rules: the organisation must take specific actions (prepare documentation on the procedures and choosing personnel to be responsible for this aspect), the staff and other persons must respect the procedures. • 9. Child Corruption And Child Trafficking With money running the world, it is not unexpected that corruption and child trafficking are entwined at the most rudimentary level. Often, money is the driving factor of most forms of child trafficking, whether it is a result of the victim desperately seeking out employment to support themselves and their family or the perpetrator utilizes their financial control over the victim to retain their product. Unfortunately, due to their very nature, children are considered some of the most vulnerable and sought after targets for traffickers. In a 2005 International Labor Organization report, there is an estimated that 980,000 to 1,225,000 children both boys and girls are in a forced labor situation as a result of trafficking across the world. In response to this pandemic, actions have been attempted by both international organizations ( IO ) (United Nations ( U.N. ), Interpol, Non Government Organizations ( NGO ), etc...) and state actors to reduce and prevent child trafficking. Such actions included adopting international treaties, such as the Convention Against Corruption ( CAC ) and Convention of the Rights of the Child ( CRC ), to address the social, economic, and cultural factors that contributed to corruption and child trafficking. From there, many nations states established domestic legislation by either directly or indirectly adopting provisions in the international treaties to provide a means to criminalize the immoral perpetrators and protect the victims of ... • 10. Film Of Tomorrow Analysis The Film of tomorrow will resemble the person who made it, and the number of spectators will be proportional to the number of friends the director has, a quote by Francois Truffaut. This quote explains Truffaut s belief in the Auteur theory and how films should become more personal to it s director. Also, he mentions that the number of spectators would be equal to the number of friends the director had, and I think he meant that since film s were so personal, viewers were connected in some way when watching, therefore were considered friends which was more meaningful then just normal viewers . In Auteur Theory, the director has control over all aspects of the film, which conveys a film that reflects their consistent vision. This was true for the director Francois Truffaut and Orson Wells. During the French New Wave of cinema the directors created their films to be more self reflective and had the focus be on the techniques rather than the narrative. This new style of film made their films excel and remain very well known. This essay will discuss directors Francois Truffaut and Orson Wells, and their unique signature film techniques and elements of cinematography. Francois Truffaut was a director who employed techniques that have a distinguishable style and he believed, the Film of tomorrow will not be directed by civil servants of camera, but by artist for whom shooting a film constitutes a wonderful and thrilling adventure. There are several different types of data collection methods. It is up to the researcher to decide if one type of data collection will be used or if several types of data collection will be used. Data can be collected through observation, reanalysis of existing data, questionnaires, or interviews (Hagan, 2010). It should be mentioned that data collection is in fact the research step. This step can be very involved and time consuming. A person will be required to gather any and all information available on their chosen subject. If the desired information is lacking, then he or she will need to create the data. This data will then need to be compiled into one place for the researcher to analyze it. After analyzing the data, any and all findings should be presented. This can be a rather lengthy step because summarizing, reporting, statistically analyzing, and presenting the findings can consume more time than all the other steps combined (Hagan, 2010). Finally, conclusions, interpretations, and limitations should be drawn from the research. This is the step in which the researcher will explain what he or she believes the study has to say. Throughout the research process and especially at this juncture, the researcher must take care to keep his or her personal beliefs and feelings out of their work (Hagan, 2010). As previously mentioned, it is important that someone wanting to be involved in research in criminal justice ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

While the trend is a familiar one in Cuba, where his original supporters come from, it has become a western norm. I Am A Great Leader Leaders are everywhere and when I think of great leaders I have had the pleasure of interacting with, the first ones that come to my mind are my Grandparents, Virgil and June Watts. After my first thought, my mind floods with many other people who I consider great leaders but my Grandparents are always the first that I think of as great leaders. My Grandpa taught me about hard work, respect, the importance of family, and the ability to understand you may not always get along so you have to learn to compromise sometimes. My Grandma taught me how to love, give to others, cook, and provide for ourselves and others with what we have available. One of the most important thing my Grandparents taught me though was, to have a passion and put one hundred percent into it. My Grandpa with his love of music and entertaining people with playing music and my Grandma with her love of sewing and making beautiful dresses and quilts. I spent many nights and days with my Grandparents and often see them as playing the biggest role in the person I turned out to be. When it comes to personal values and morals, I ve shaped most of mine from what they have shown me. Although we disagree politically, I learned so much from them about what it means to be a great leader. They taught me honesty, even when it gets myself in trouble. • 18. Essay on Response to Bitzer s Rhetorical Situation In The Rhetorical Situation, Lloyd F. Bitzer argues that what makes a situation rhetorical is similar to that which constitutes a moral action as he writes that, an act is moral because it is an act performed in a situation of a certain kind; similarly, a work is rhetorical because it is a response to a situation of a certain kind .(3) By defining the rhetorical situation in this way, Bitzer further contends that rhetoric is a means to altering reality. (4) It is through the use of discourse that one is capable of changing reality through thought and action. (4) Bitzer then elaborates upon the nature of a rhetorical situation by explaining that rhetorical discourse enters a situation when: providing a response to its state of affairs; ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Although Bitzer continues in the third section of his essay, by outlining the general characteristics or features of a rhetorical situation, it is his discussion of sophistical rhetoric that is most interesting. (11) He notes that a sophistic situation is one where a contrived exigence is, asserted to be real... alleged constituents are due to error or ignorance,... and [it derives] from fantasy in which exigence, audience, and constraints may all be imaginary objects of a mind at play . (11) He concludes that, rhetoric is distinguished from the mere craft of persuasion which, although it is a legitimate object of scientific investigation, lacks philosophical warrant as a practical discipline . (14) While Bitzer s insights into how one may think about the way in which rhetorical discourse acts upon and therefore alters the reality of a situation, it is difficult to see his point in stating that the mere craft of persuasion lacks philosophical warrant as a practical discipline. The clearest reason it seems, is implied from the examples that Bitzer uses, none of which are theological or religious in nature, but rather the examples he provides are usually political. Although one is left to speculate as to what categories Bitzer would include in sophistical rhetoric (other than a play or novel), might theological and religious discourse be subsumed under ... In the article, Leave No Child Behind by Marian Wright Edelman, the author explains many lessons on the steps to become successful. According to some, success is measured by social status and wealth. I agree that there is no such thing as free lunch. I notice there is nothing given to us without a price tag on it. One time I remembered when I really wanted the new Barney rolling backpack. • 26. Labor Unions And The Industrial Age In 1900, 18 percent of all American workers were under the age of 16 (Yellowitz, http://www.history.com/topics/child labor). For years people have gone back and forth on whether or not labor unions are actually beneficial to workers or if unions are harmful to the economy. Labor unions first started popping up as early as 1794 and started catching on in the 1880s with the introduction of The Knights of Labor. (Staff, http://www.history.com/topics/knights of labor) Unions grew in response to terrible working conditions, long hours, zero benefits, very low wages, and child labor. The opponents of labor unions were around even before then. When the industrial age began and people started moving to the cities, many employers took advantage of the high numbers of people in search for work and treated them more as numbers and expendable machines than people. The workers maybe got enough to live on after working for most of the day, everyday, for most of their lives. Even the children had to work those same hours instead of enjoying their childhood. The flip side to all of that is that the economy expanded and there were many people who got rich through that system. Overall, labor unions were extremely beneficial not only to American workers but also to the American economy because they improved working conditions, eliminated child labor, and because the more money workers received, the more money they spent and put back into the economy. Should Scotland Be An Independent Country For decades the political relationship between the sovereign nation of England and the slightly independent country of Scotland has caused much discourse for some Scot citizens. For almost 300 years the decisions that directly affected Scotland were decided from the Parliament at Westminster Palace in London. This was not changed until rather recently when Scotland voted on its own Parliament held in the capital of Edinburgh. An analysis of the three most recent Scottish referendums from the years 1979, 1997, and 2014 show that the political atmosphere has become increasingly more receptive to Scottish independence and shifting ideologies regarding nationalism are shaping global democracies. Geographically England and Scotland both share land on the small island northeast of continental Europe, but the two countries did not share a government until 1707 when the legislation titled The Union Treaty unified the nation. The death of Queen Elizabeth I in 1603 ended the Tudor line of dynasty for the Kingdom of England resulting in James VI of Scotland (a Stuart) to become King of England. His throne became known as the Union of the Crowns because never before had both England and Scotland been ruled by the same monarch. For almost a hundred years the two countries were ruled in this manner until King William s death when the throne was passed to his sister in law Queen Anne who called for an integration of unions. Neil Oliver, historian and author of the BBC s History of Scotland argues that Queen Anne s crown appointees that drafted the original version of the Union Treaty that was sent before Scottish Parliament was nothing more or less than a suicide note awaiting a signature.
