Sales of CDs, in retail music stores started declining, while MP3 songs, shared freely through
sites encouraged Napster and the like, started escalating. Though the traffic to Soundbuzz was in
the millions of unique users, the customers were not buying the fee based content. Despite all
the efforts by Soundbuzz, it was faced with becoming irrelevant due to its flawed business
model. In 2001, the Soundbuzz management decided to abandon the B2C model and instead
focus back on a B2B model that was based on the deal they had closed with Lycos almost a year
earlier. Aligned with the change in business model, a new B2B revenue model was also
established. This model saw Soundbuzz aggregating record labels music content and providing a
technical platform and content management service to other portals. In November 2001,
Soundbuzz provided an end to end digital music solution for Hewlett Packard s (HP) digital music
service that included developing a customised on line music store, aggregation of digital music
content and creation of unique promotions for HP with applications to its products. Soon after,
Soundbuzz closed deals with other regional and local portals to provide them with digital music. In
early 2002, Soundbuzz decided to diversify in the wireless and device area. The company began

Reliant was expanding its manufacturing operations in the production of plastic pipe and pipe
fittings, particularly in Europe. The use of plastic as a substitute for iron or copper pipe was
gaining rapid acceptance in the construction trades, and the European markets were significantly
more progressive in adopting the plastic pipe. Reliant already had developed a small polyvinyl
chloride production facility at Abbeville, France, and Pacific constructed a pipeline from its
petrochemical plant at Antwerp to Abbeville. The 1979 contract between Pacific Oil and Reliant
was a fairly standard one for the industry and due to expire in December of 1982. The contract
was negotiated by Reliants purchasing managers in Europe, headquartered in Brussels, and the
senior marketing managers of Pacific Oils European offices, located in Paris. Each of these
individuals reported to the vice presidents in charge of their companies European offices, who in
turn reported back to their respective corporate headquarters in the States. The 1982 Contract

Sambo Stereotypes Essay
The Sambo stereotype of Black men is prominent on many televisions shows that includes a
Black male character. Black men who are portrayed as Sambo are shown as a very happy, lazy,
docile, aggregable, and carefree man. This stereotype is used in television shows because he can
be laughed at, hence, humor is a form of oppression (Drew 4). In Tia Tyree s article African
AmericanStereotypes in Reality Television, she studies 10 different reality television shows and
their inclusion on Black stereotypes and found that male was the only gender to have participants
coded as old stereotypes, which were a Sambo, Uncle Tom, and Coon (403). In season 3 of the
show The Apprentice, one of the contestants Craig, was categorized as the old stereotype... Show

In the comedy television series Uncle Buck premiered in mid 2016 was a television adaptation
of the movie Uncle Buck (1989). The show was based on an uncle stepping into the life of his
brother and family, however, the character Uncle Buck played by Mike Epps is the epitome of
Sambo. In the first season, episode 1 he says, I m a free spirit, you need to let me fly (Uncle
Buck (2016) Season 1). This line coincides with the idea of the carefreeness a Sambo. A few
scenes later, he is seen taking a nap shortly after being given the responsibility of taking care of
his nieces and nephew and after being awakened by them goes to the kitchen and drinks orange
juice straight from the jug. These actions exhibit traits associated with the Lazy Black Man.
However, Uncle Buck does not represent all Black men and evidently many can tell this is an over
exaggeration of the stereotype, yet, many such as white Americans may take the overarching idea
that Black men are lazy, carefree and very happy go lucky and apply it to situations in which they

Synopsis Of Jian
Jian They still haunt him. The memories from a long, long time ago, before the holy grounds of
Promised Land were painted crimson red and his hands were stained with the blood of his
beloved brethren. He can remember the peaceful times, albeit the longer he gazes back into the
very depths of his past, the worse the sinner feels and an unbearable agony tugs at his shattered
heart, playing an unknown melody that is sorrow. The immensely familiar, yet unknown voices
call out for him every now and then, coaxing him to not grieve over what had happened for there
was no way he could change his reckless doings. But how.. how could he, possibly stop
mourning, or forget? No matter how many times he d tried to forget, all of his attempts were
fruitless. He believes he is cursed to have the story of the very end of Heaven carved into his
memory as if it were a cold stone. After all, there was no way he could forget that fatal decision
he made the very last day he had seen his beloved ones before he was considered a traitor and a
murderer in their eyes. The first time he had sinned. It feels like tomorrow when the Great Gates
of Heaven were considered another word for home, family, where everyone was welcomed with
open arms and was granted safety, comfort, warmth, love anything and everything one could dream
of. The eternal paradise. There was no envy, no hatred, nothing that could harm one s sanity nor

Tricare Health Plans
TRICARE Health Plans is the replacement for CHAMPUS which was the provider of health care
services for military dependents. TRICARE not only replaced CHAMPUS but its purpose was
also to facilitate members with access to better health care. Unfortunately, TRICARE has gone
through many changes and upheavals since its inception in 1997. First, they began by dividing the
company into regions. Each member was placed into a region based on where the military member
was stationed. If the member was stationed in Maryland then his family belonged to the East
Region. Unfortunately, there were many problems with this plan. First, some military members and
their families did not live in the same regions. Therefore, the families either had to travel... Show

TRICARE has had many learning curves to overcome. In the beginning, the contractors were not
prepared to handle the amount of members that serve the United States Military. Also, they were
unprepared for the multitude of health issues that were plaguing the families. One such issue was
the Gulf War Syndrome which the United States Government was attempting to cover up. Over the
years, their service to members has improved but has a long way to go in order to compete with
some of the private health insurance plans that are available. Many families who have major health
issues find it more convenient to pay for private health insurance. This also allows for those
families to get care without going through the bureaucracy and red tape that surrounds TRICARE s
policies.
However, not all has been lost. TRICARE is striving to succeed in providing optimal care for their
members. They have taken the initiative to enact new policies and benefits that allow for members
to see many private and local physicians and dentists. This has had a great impact on how
TRICARE is being perceived not only by their members but also the surrounding communities.

Leonie the Strong looked at her newborn daughter with love in her heart that spilled out into her

his love by working hard, for that was all he knew. He wished to spend more time with his family,
but felt easier in the presence of the winged warriors, cooking for them day and night.
Naming day came and after much consideration Leonie the Strong decided to call the little one
Vicki ann; a magical two fold name that means strong one who can call upon her ancestors for
protection. She was too young to know about the world around her and was safe. She gained a
sister Jo anne and the two little girls didn t know that tragedy was just around the corner, lurking in
the shape of a Taniwha, Waipero (alcohol).
Leonie had met Waipero numerous times and was familiar with his wiley ways this is told in
another story. Kevin could not protect the family for he was lost in a great sadness and
confusion. His family was growing apart and he felt powerless to stop it. Leonie was desperate
after another onslaught from Waipero and called upon the help of a wizened old man who
promised aid. He took Leonie and her daughters away and she went willingly for she was weary of
the battle and did not notice the spell cast upon them. Alas, the wizened old man exacted a cruel

Men Have Control Over Women In The Story Of An Hour
Some people believe that once they marry they are giving up their freedom. In some cases, this is
true, especially in the late 19th century. Woman during this period were marrying as young as 15
years old and were marrying men well into their 30s. This caused a lack of communication and
love between a married couple and usually resulted in the man having control over the woman. The
idea of men having control over women in marriagecan be seen in Kate Chopin s The Story of an
Hour. In this short story, Louise Mallard learns of her husband s death due to a fatal train
accident. Sad and alone at first, Mrs. Mallard sits in her room contemplating how she will live now
that her husband is gone. Soon her emotions are flipped and Mrs. Mallard

The ham agar plate grows the most bacterial colonies because this food has the most moisture.
Germs like living in moisture and this is why the test could not be done on a normal tiled floor
but instead had to be done with artificially covered surfaces. It also makes sense that germs
would stick to a food that was wet instead of a food that was dry. Cheese had the second most
bacterial colonies, and we could say this could be because of it being the second moistest food.
Lastly, was the chip. The chip got less bacterial colonies because it had no moisture what so
ever. The difference in the lowest and the highest on the ham varied widely from the lowest and
the highest on the chip. The lowest in the ham is 12 (ham on a bricked, or tiled surface) and the
highest is 25 (ham on a bricked surface) whereas the lowest for a chip is 9 (chip on a tiled
surface) and the highest is 15 which is a carpeted surface. The average amount of bacterial colonies
on the ham throughout the entire experiment is 16.83 whereas it is 12.08 on the chip showing that
ham generally picks up more bacteria than a

Minimum Wage Is An Issue That Is Causing Uproar Amongst...

Minimum wage is an issue that is causing uproar amongst working class citizens. For many
workers, a simple increase of 30% in the federal minimum wage could be the difference between
living in or out of poverty. Over the past few decades there have been countless increases in
salaries, although none of those went to people who actually needed it. To this day the rich
continue to get richer, vastly increasing their wealth, while the poor are struggling to provide
basic necessities such as food, shelter, and clothing. While the rich keep get richer and the poor
continue getting poorer, we have seen a decrease in the middle class; median income has turned
into upper or lower middle class. Establishing legislation that provides workers with a wage that is
able to sustain simple necessities is necessary, it would provide ample support for those who may
not have been able to afford living to take a step away from poverty and move into the middle class.
The minimum wage was set with the passage of The Fair Labor Standards Act of 1938 (FLSA). Its
initial price point was $0.25 per hour, and it has been raised twenty two times since. It allowed for
federal protections against employers like minimum wage, overtime pay for time worked over a set
number of hours in a workweek, restrictions on the employment of children, and recordkeeping
requirements (uc davis). In that year, the act applied to industries whose

Resistance Training Essay
Resistance training is an exercise that exploits progressive resistance movements, typically with
free weights or weight machines, to build strength or muscle endurance (Mood et al 2003). Weight
training has become very popular in recent years and is now used for a variety of reasons
including performance enhancement, competitive weight lifting and to increase physical fitness
(Mood et al 2003). Interval training involves a repeated series of exercisework bouts interspersed
with rest of relief periods. This is a popular method among athletes because it allows the athlete to
exercise at higher relative intensities during the work interval than are possible with longer
duration, continuous training (Heyward 2002). The intensity can vary from... Show more content on

It might be more appropriate to refer to this type of training as vo2 max or aerobic capacity
training since the athlete trains at or very near the intensity which demands vo2 max of the
system (Daniels and Scardina, 1984). Interval training can be referred to in several different
ways. Fox (1977) refers to two types of interval training, low power output interval training and
high power output interval training. High power output interval training involves exercise and
rest periods of less than one minute. Gibala and Mcgee (2008) refer to High intensity training.
This generally refers to repeated sessions of relatively short intermittent exercise often performed
with an all out . Minimum volume of High intensity training may be necessary to increase VO2
peak. Alternatively, Astrand and Rodahl (1977) say that exercise bouts lasting 3 5 minutes each
are the longest recommended and are considered optimum for training aerobic processes. The
purpose of high intensity training is to repeatedly stress the physiological systems that will be used
during specific endurance type exercise (Daniels and Scardina 1984) than which is required during
a specific activity. Intensity was the most important factor in producing improvements in aerobic
power, regardless of level of exercise, duration frequency, program length or initial fitness (Wenger

Marketing Analysis of Washburn Guitar

Washburn really went above and beyond to make sure my guitars are to my exact specifications.
says Donegan. (Kurtz amp; L, 2008) Washburn is always making huge effort on its product by
concentrating on every detail from the material to a single screw. Moreover, Washburn
emphasis a lot on its high quality and brand image, regarding them as the key components in
their advertisements. Therefore, on the one hand, Washburn guitar is completely in a non price
competition, for its quality oriented image. On the other hand, non price competition does not
mean totally ignoring the price factor. As Gil Vasquez, the product manager put We track
quality and costs for everything in our production process to maximize the price and minimize

consideration as well, and they are promise to give customers the finest quality at the best price.
This is a reflection of Washburn is also taking part in the price competition by the ways of
cutting its cost as possible as they can. Another reason to say why Washburn is also in price war
is the fact that they come up with the low priced guitar, which aims to satisfy different guitar users
needs, but it turns out to be Washburn does this at the expense of their company s image. Question

Memory As Discrimination Summary
In the article, Memory as discrimination: what distraction reveals, the authors C. Philip Beaman,
Maciej Hanczakowski, Helen M. Hodgetts, John E, Marsh, and Dylan M. Jones choose to
determine whether or not correct or erroneous recall is impacted by semantic and nonsemantic

the third using language. For group one a sample size of forty eight was chosen. This group was

The selfie isn t the newest thing, it has been around since photography and self portraits started.
But in the past few years, it has been become increasingly popular, because of the rising of
smartphones and other social media sites. Since celebrities and other famous or popular people

people are so obsessed on what celebrities are doing, as if they are their idol. It s like if a celebrity
does this, the majority of people will try to copy her. Many people view celebrities as one of
their biggest role models. Celebrities can have a huge influence on society. Most of the time,
they are the ones who starts or even makes the trend more popular, typically because of their

Patriarchy In India
All over the world, 8th March is celebrated as International Women s Day. In fact, gender equality
is proclaimed as fundamental right by the United Nations Charter in 1945. However, the status of
women is not at par with that of men in India. Ages have come and go, but the plight of women is
not likely to change. From aeons, time has helplessly watched excesses done on women in the form
of discrimination, oppression, exploitation, degradation, and humiliation etc. genderbased
discrimination represents the ugly face of the society. This is global issue with varying degrees
and India is not an exception to it, especially Haryanawhere it s a patriarchy society.
Patriarchy is social organization has been the dominant reality to define the nature of gender
relations in human society that rendered it male centric in most parts of the world since the dawn of
human civilization. Much has changed since the primitive times but the male dominated ethos still
holds sway. In spite of all the advances made in the field of woman emancipation, male hegemony is
still the dominant reality.1
Haryana is primarily an agrarian society and its towns too are like villages with modern facilities.
In male dominated social ethos, the quest for a male child is incessant while the female child is
treated as a curse. Haryana folklore crudely depicts female child as highly unwanted. The mindset
is reflected in the declining social status of women in Haryana.2

Daniel Chapter 3 Hebrew Men Analysis
In this essay I will be writing about The Three Hebrew Men. This story comes from the book of
Daniel chapter 3. It is about three men whose names were: Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego.
The bible makes us to understand that the king of the Babylon empire at that time was king
Nebuchadnezzar. The story starts off when Nebuchadnezzar built a statute of Gold. Then he
invited important people from all over the land to come and see the statute that he built. Daniel
chapter 3 verse 4 5 says: Then a herald cried aloud: To you it is commanded, O peoples, nations,
and languages, that at the time you hear the sound of the horn, flute, harp, lyre, and psaltery, in
symphony with all kinds of music, you shall fall down and worship the gold image that King
Nebuchadnezzar has set up. king Nebuchadnezzar had asked all the people who came to see the
statue to fall down and worship the statue. Meanwhile it is written in the bible that when the
Israelites where in the wilderness God gave them the 10 commandments. When king

Privatizing Urban Transportation Can Work With Timely...
The privatizing of urban transportation can work with timely public planning. A lot of the issues
to be considered are due to poor maintenance, slow expansion of streets, urban highways and
excessive congestion in many cities. Public and private partnerships can be used to improve the
timing of investments and ensure adequate maintenance of highways. Because of the lack of
funding and political red tape at both the local and federal levels, privatized funding can help
with the development of roadways, create jobs and complete the task at hand. Although
privatization terms and conditions of contracted developers of urban planning can create an
inflexed rate in the use of tolls for many road ways and highways it can reduce the congestion in
many cities. This paper will explore the how poor maintenance, slow expansion of streets and
urban highways and excessive congestion are chronic in many cities. The research will argue
claims that public private partnerships can be used to improve the timing of new investments,

The Theme Of The Lesson Before Dying
There are many points to consider in creation of a good story that will capture and deliver the
main idea to the audience. The most important of all those points is the setting physical location
and time in the story. For example, if the author writes a story about polar bears but set it in
South America, the story would not go along with the plot, losing its ability to create a clear
message for the audience; Or if the story doesn t have setting, its characters are simply in a
vacuum with no reason to act and develop the main idea. In the story, The Lesson before dying
by Ernest J. Gaines, the setting creates the central idea because it sets the basis for the main
theme, the characters who develop the idea and actions within their environment to reflect the
issues of the story. The setting is a physical location of events, while the central idea is the main
thoughts that author want the reader to remember the most. The Lesson before Dying is a
fictional work about injustice and discrimination of blacks. To emphasize the theme, the author
set the story in the city where the history of segregation between races is very obvious. The
narrator, Grant Wiggins, describes his town as a place that is divided in two parts: whites and
blacks. He says: There was a Catholic Church uptown for whites; a Catholic church back of town
for colored. There was a white movie theater uptown; a colored movie theater back of town. There
were two elementary schools uptown, one Catholic,

The Manufacture of the Perfect Woman
The Manufacture of the Perfect Woman In today s society, the media remains a pronounced source
of information throughout the westernized world and beyond. Men, women, and children alike
interact with some sort of media in their day to day lives. This wealth of information can be
significantly useful and provides an essential way of communicating important intelligence.
However, it also acts as a means of entertainment. Because of its ever present existence, this aspect
of modern culture tends to influence and impact those who interact with it regularly. Although often
a beneficial source of communication, media can have a negative impact on those that consume it,
especially female viewers. Fictional media, more specifically, impacts an... Show more content on

Early interpreting of these images predicts the start of a never ending struggle with identity and self
image. Unsurprisingly, girls adopt unhealthy self images especially with the prevalence of mass
media messages in early developmental stages: Between the ages of eight and eighteen spend
more than 10 hours a day using media, including more than four hours with television content
delivered in a variety of formats and almost 1.5 hours on the Internet (McGladrey). This early
exposure leads to later, lasting issues. Most shocking, media pressure can lead to premature
feelings of despair before adolescence: The early girls coping mechanisms for dealing with
these body related pressures are diverse but almost universally self destructive. Rates of
depression markedly increase during adolescence, with twice as many girls displaying depressive
symptoms as boys by the age of fifteen (Hankin et al. as cited in McGladrey). When a female feels
as if her appearance does not match that of the media norm, she struggles with her image. A factor

Fructose, Glucose And Carbohydrates
1.Describe the structure of a monosaccharide and name the three monosaccharides important in
nutrition. Name the three disaccharides commonly found in foods and their component
monosaccharides. In what foods are these sugars found?
There are three types of monosaccharides; Glucose, Fructose, and Galactose. Monosaccharides are
a type of sugar and often called simple carbohydrates. These different sugars all have the same
structures consisting of 6 carbon atoms, 12 hydrogens, and 6 oxygen atoms. They all follow the
rules of chemistry with each carbon atom having 4 bonds, oxygen having 2, and hydrogen 1 bond.
The difference between each of these is the order of arrangement of the atoms and therefore each
provide a different amount of sweetness. Glucose is also known as blood sugar and is very
important to the body s activities as it is an essential energy source. Fructose, having the same
chemical formula of glucose, is considered the sweetest of the sugars. Galactose is a naturally
occurring sugar in foods as a single sugar. The order difference of these bonds is shown in the
following reference pictures found in Understanding Nutrition. (Whitney Rolfes, 2014, p101)
There are three types of disaccharides as well; Maltose, Sucrose, and Lactose. These sugars are
compounds of the monosaccharide groups. Maltose consists of 2 glucose atoms; this is created
when starches break down. Sucrose consists of one glucose and one fructose atom and is the
sweetest of the

The Importance Of The Geek Culture
Today Geek Culture is a widely acknowledged sub culture across the world. Technology and media
are ever changing and the Geek Culture reflects the changes with the acceptance of nerds , otaku ,
and the dweeb . Though mostly meant as derogatory terms they are now seen as acceptable jokes
that are popular in this moment of history. Nerds are the socially awkward and intelligent
population the term is also interchangeable with its outdated counterpart dweeb. Otakuwas used to
insult adults who enjoyed animethat though not meant for children was still considered cartoons
therefore childish; but now many refer to themselves as an otaku.
Though accepted common stereotypes about the culture and its population still persist. The most
prominent misconceptions include the belief that otaku are nothing but lazy, incompetent men that
are all N.E.E.T. or hikikomori, not in education employment or training and someone who shuts
themselves in there room away from society respectively, that don t contribute to society in any
meaningful way. Some believe that everything otaku related is like a cancer infecting and affecting
the healthy parts of society which is like calling it criminal to be an otaku. The perverted, lazy, and
deadbeat otaku only make up the smallest but most visible portion of otaku society.
The prevalent stereotypes about the otaku/anime fans is easily viewed when typing in google why
are anime fans... or why are otakus... and the autocomplete fills in with so ugly,

Adult Basic Education and Implications of Digital Literacy...
Adult basic education or ABE is a complicated area given that there are varying definitions of the
words the title contain. Theorists, practitioners and learners can give differing accounts of what it
means to be an adult learner, what constitutes basic education and how to facilitate said education.
In practice, the area of ABE describes a whole range of programs that deliver a baseline or basic set
of skills that all adults are expected to have acquired during compulsory education(ABE, 2013).
According to Jacobson (2012), there is now an increasing availability of digital technology
resources for education that are beginning to be applied to adult basic education settings. The

These technologies also have implications for teacher professional development along the same
community of practice model. A CoP developed in an online environment known as an OCoP

that support teachers in the development of instruction that in turn support learners in the
exploration of digital literacies and content knowledge. An OCoP also takes advantage of and
promotes understanding within the teacher s practice of the usage requirements of digital
technologies within the design and development of curriculum for content knowledge,
computational and language literacy skills as their own professional development is designed
within the digital environment (Hawkes and Pauli, 2010). Additionally, the development of an

increases the efficacy and accessibility of information dissemination and support activities.
Affordances of Digital Technologies
Online learning and distance education technologies have been of keen interest to the adult basic

What do you know about chewing gum? How does chewing gum can help your breath? Many

Sexual Selection and Sexual Conflict Essay
Charles Darwin characterized sexual selection as variance in the number of mates . The purpose of
sexual selection is to perfect the secondary sexual characteristics, which are the morphological
differences between the two sexes. On the other hand the primary sexual characteristics are the
differences between the reproductive genital systems of the two sexes. Sexual selectioninstead of
adapting the individual to the environment, like natural selection, it does enhance traits involved in
mate acquisition. Sexual conflict, on the other hand, occurs when males and females have different
reproductive interests and deriving from the urge of sexual reproduction. This is boosted by
promiscuity when males and females have several partners.... Show more content on

intersexual selection, which is also known as the female choice. There are three cases of
intersexual selection. Firstly, the female choice co evolved with trait exaggeration, otherwise
called Fisher s process. Secondly, the choosy females gain direct benefit and thirdly, females are
choosy because of sensory bias. Fisher s process is divided in two phases. At phase one, the
female preferences evolve because the trait that they prefer is favored by natural selection and
as a result, their offspring are more likely to have the beneficial trait. When there is a distinct
difference in a species, which is linked with the selective advantage, the females tend to choose
the males that clearly distinguish the difference that is to be observed and they will prefer the
most advantageous type. As for phase two, once the female preferences exist, males with the
specific trait are more fit, which is both a natural and a sexual selection advantage. As a result
there will be an increasing selective force favoring stronger preferences and more extreme traits.
The runaway process will eventually stop, when there is no longer genetic variation for further trait
or preference exaggeration or when the viability costs of the trait, balance sexual

The Tempest Imperialism
The play, The Tempest by William Shakespeare, follows the journey of the magical Prospero and
his search for revenge on those who had victimized him. Stranded on an island for twelve years
with his daughter Miranda and servants Caliban and Ariel, Prospero shipwrecks the men who put
him there by conjuring up a terrible and violent storm from which the play gets its name. Prospero
watches over the shipwrecked group who were responsible for betraying him, including his brother
Antonio, who stole his position of Duke of Milan. The Tempest, written between 1610 and 1611 in
the midst of European expansion and colonization of the Americas, is symbolic of the negative
repercussions associated with imperialism. William Shakespeares The Tempest draws an allusion to
the age of exploration and critiques the effects of colonial expansion through the main characters,
including Prospero and Caliban. The Tempest offers insight into the effects colonial expansion has

Not only is Caliban himself a symbol of the mistreatment of Native Americans but his name is

Jamestown that were so widely supported by English colonists (Pettigrew). Ultimately the divide

ignored the bill, and the Governor, whom some expected would veto it, signed it into law...He
understood it for what it was, a symbolic protest against the undarmining of religion by science,
(The Scopes). This shows that even though many people did not like the law because of its relation

state, but because he did not like the idea of religion and science overlapping. Like the politic
factors, geographic location also played a factor in the conviction of John Scopes.

Hopelessness Theory Of Depression
Hopelessness Theory of Depression. The hopelessness theory of depression (Abramson et al.,
1989), which is a based on the reformulated theory of helplessness and depression (Abramson,
Seligman, Teasdale, 1978), provides a conceptualization for the underlying vulnerability in the
proposed integrative biopsychosocial etiological model discussed in this review. The hopelessness
theory of depression is a cognitive diathesis stress model that outlines a series of three cognitive
inference tendencies that interact with each other and negative life events to contribute to the
etiology of MDD (Abramson et al., 1989). These three cognitive inference tendencies include: (1)
inferring stable and global causes for the event, (2) inferring negative consequences of the event,
and (3) inferring negative self characteristics as a result of the event (Abramson et al., 1989). The
hopelessness theory of depression hypothesized that the depressogenic inferential style was one
that included all three of the cognitive inference tendencies (Abramson et al., 1989). Furthermore,
the theory posited that the objective severity of the negative event required to result in an episode
of MDD was inversely proportional to level of the depressogenic inferential style, such that the
higher the cognitive vulnerability, the lower the objective severity of the triggering life event, and
vice versa (Abramson et al., 1989). The cognitive diathesis stress model of the hopeless theory of
depression has been

Female Power, Maternity and Genderbending in Shakespeare s Antony and Cleopatra
The 19th century essayist and literary critic William Hazlitt wrote of Cleopatra, She is voluptuous,
ostentatious, conscious, boastful of her charms, haughty, tyrannical, [and] fickle, which are great
and unpardonable faults (Hazlitt 2 3). Much of the criticism of Antony and Cleopatra has recycled
this judgement, depicting Cleopatra as a villainess uses her eroticism and sexuality to motivate
Antony to seek power. Cleopatra is memorable for her propensity for violence as well. While
Antony and Cleopatra was written after the death of a violent English queen, Elizabeth I,
Shakespeare may have been faced with a dramatic dilemma: how to make a woman ... Show more

The binary oppositions of masculine and feminine are thus personified by Caesar and Cleopatra,
not by Antony, whose men often regard him as the pawn of the deceptive queen and thus not a
real man. On the contrary, Robert Miola says, Caesar s sense of purpose and public responsibility
directly opposes Cleopatra s love of idleness and luxury (129), a conclusion supported by the fact
that it is Caesar who, after the deaths of Antony and Cleopatra, provides some closure to the
political chaos that has dominated the play.
Such an assertion that the danger of Cleopatra s sexuality lies in her Egyptian surroundings requires
further detail here. The Orient represented a strange, but terrifyingly fascinating world to the
Elizabethans. While it was decidedly inferior and politically weak, the Orient also held a dangerous
mystique. As Lucy Hughes Hallett attests, poets, playwrights, historians and artists have found the
idea of Cleopatra s foreignness, or otherness, a suitable method by which to explain away her
dangerous sexuality. In other words, the fact that Cleopatra effectively seduced and influenced two
powerful Roman men baffled Western thinkers who could only explain it by attributing it to her
foreignness or otherness. Not surprisingly, Shakespeare succumbs to a similar artistic temptation. In
the first ten lines of the play, the surrender of Roman dignity to Egyptian passion is made clear.

The Most Important Importance Of Plants In Our Society
The importance of plants is often overlooked by the general public. They don t realize when they
eat, wear, or build something that none of it would be possible without plants. Complex life itself
only exists thanks to the evolution of plants. Throughout this essay, I hope to highlight some of the
most important aspects of plants including their ecological roles, historical roles, source of food,
medicinal uses, spices, erosion control, soilcontribution, and many others. The list of plant
importance could go on and on forever, but these seem to play the most pertinent role in our society.
Plants provide many products that benefit other organisms and their environments. Perhaps one of
the most important roles of the plant is photosynthesis. Photosynthesis is the process by which
light energy is converted into a usable form. Of this energy obtained by the plant, ten percent is
passed on through each level of the trophic chain, and the rest is given off as heat. This theory is
known as the 10% Law. The process of photosynthesis also consumes carbon dioxide, and releases
oxygen as a byproduct. This is arguably one of the most important functions of plants, because
oxygen is such a vital ingredient to life on Earth. With their oxygen producing capabilities, plants
have been coined as, The Lungs of the Earth . Another benefit that plants provide to their
ecosystems that has only been discovered since an increase in human pollution is their
detoxification potential. Many plants

Mars Hypothesis
PROBLEM What would be the best, easiest, and cheapest way to get enough water to healthily
sustain a Mars colony of one hundred people for one year? A second question is, Is there a way to
reduce the amount of water used by each human on a daily basis?
HYPOTHESIS
My hypothesis is that the easiest, cheapest, and most sustainable source of water on Mars will be
filtration of urine. Scientists have already proved that this will work in space on the International
Space Station. A second hypothesis is that the amount of water needed by humans on mars can be
cut in half by making some simple changes.
PROCEDURE
To begin my experiment I will research information of several ways that you could potentially get
water on Mars. I will look at filtration systems, binding of hydrogen and oxygen molecules and
melting of ice that is said to be located on ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Also for any filter to be useable it has to be able to withstand the trip to mars and the landing on
mars.
Another method worth exploring is the binding of hydrogen and oxygen molecules. If this works it
could potentially be more sustainable and cheaper that the alternative. For this to work it will need
to be proven on earth before going to mars. It also will need to be made a more simple process.
Additionally it will need to be safe to do within a building. The oxygen and hydrogen would also
need to be able to be sent in a pressurized form. Finally for this to work they would need a safe
and efficient way to transport it to mars. Another way to get water from mars would be the
melting of ice said to be located on the poles of mars. To make this work they would need to
know for certain that there is ice on mars. They would also need to know how to melt the ice
without starting a fire. Also they would need a way to separate the water from the dirt it is said to
be mixed with. Additionally they would need to find a way to collect the amount of dirt it would
take give the entire population

The Importance Of Juvenile Delinquency
Juvenile delinquency is an issue that remains troublesome since it is in direct correlation with adult
crime. While the age crime curve, which is universal in Western populations remains constant,
persistence in terms of criminal behavior seems higher for individuals who start early in life (NIJ,
N.A.). Since girls tend to start offending at a younger age, they should receive more attention in
terms of prevention but they do not (NIJ, N.A.). Selecting female juvenile delinquencyas an issue
since it should receive more attention than it has been granted in the past seems adequate. Girls
enter a system that was created by men for men and lacks of appropriate programs and initiatives
for a population that requires it. The lack of gender responsive programs and consideration for
criminal pathways make this issue important to analyze. In the past, girls have been considered as
deviant for a multitude of different aspects, whether it is related to their sexuality, their mental
instability or their refusal to adhere to their social roles. We now see a trend where girls commit
similar crimethan boys, while they remain less violent, they have expanded in the participation in
criminal behavior. Research shows that girls become delinquent for different reasons than boys, but
those differences are rarely addressed in the juvenile justice setting. Offering truly gender
responsive programming and educating society and justice professionals as to which pathways lead
to criminality in

Persuasion In Advertising Essay
The Role of Persuasion in Advertising and Compulsive Buying Persuasion can be used as one of
the most influential ways to convince people to do anything. A key way to using persuasion is to
influence the audience; there is always a catch. The persuader intends to influence the persuadee
to their means to an end or goal. Companies use persuasion in many around the world. Persuasion
is worldwide, companies are not the only ones that use it. Children use persuasion daily to
convince their parents as well as students with their professors. As previously mentioned, the act of
persuading will always have an end goal. More importantly, there is a process to persuasion
especially in advertising. The process of persuasion will begin with identifying a goal. Second,
finding the right audience is important. Third, the persuader must have a plan to how they are
going to achieve the goal. Fourth, the message is vital. This is what the persuader will use to hook
the customer. The final part of this process is that persuader must be able to convey the message.
According to a study called, The influence of advertising on compulsive buying The role of
persuasion knowledge by Kalina MikoЕ‚ajczak Degrauwe and Malaika Brengman. There is
growing concern for over compulsive buying among consumers all over the world that has led to
vast amounts of research. In the past, the focus of previous research mainly examining the internal,
psychological factors contributing to compulsive buying.

A Perfect Day For Bananafish
Strange. Unusual. Bizarre. Words that come to mind when reading A Perfect Day for
Bananafish. With the title of the short story one may think it will be a happy story maybe about
a girl on a beach. Who one day decides to go swimming in the ocean and on that day she
discovers a whole new species of talking fish that look like bananas. This talking fish and the
talking girl go on an adventure were they see the beauty of the sea. That would be a happy, fun
story. Complete different from what really happens in the real story. The way J. D. Salinger wrote
this interesting story, A Perfect Day for Bananafish, explains the confusing and weird details of a
strange man. The first impression of the main character and the details Salinger explains... Show

When reading the ending of the story one can see how weird Seymour becomes when talking to
Sybil. As they are talking about Sharon Lipschutz, who is a three and a half year old girl staying
at the hotel, Sybil had gotten upset because Seymour was sitting next to Sharon at the piano.
Seymour asked Sybil, I couldn t push her off, could I? Sybil responds by saying yes but,
Seymour says, Oh no. I couldn t do that. Seymour continues on by saying, I ll tell you what I did
do, thought. I pretended that she was you. This is really weird because if Sharon is only three
and a half and Sybil is probably around the same age. Then Seymour a grown man who is
married likes a little girl strange. That s not the only thing wired Seymour has said to Sybil. In the
mist of Seymour and Sybil conversation on the beach the story of the Bananafish comes up. The
whole thing behind the Bananafish is that these ordinary looking fish go into a hole where they
find bananas, eat them, and then when they try and get out after eating so many bananas they get
stuck and die. It s a really weird story to tell to a little

Marine Biology Admissions Essay
The quote by Benjamin Franklin, If passion drives you, let reason hold the reins relates to my
life and the factors that affected my college decision. Because I was fascinated about marine life
and their environment, I wanted to major in Marine Biology and make a career out of it. While
Marine Biology was my passion, after further researching all my options for college, I had to let
reason play a role in determining where I would go. Back in eighth grade, our family vacationed
in the Cayman Islands. I had my first opportunity to snorkel around the reefs; I saw eels,
stingrays, colorful fish, and corral. Swimming with dolphins only added to the experience. From
this moment on, I knew I wanted to study all these amazing sea creatures for a career. In
researching colleges that seemed to fit me, I decided on Marine Biologyas my intended major. Also
around the same time, I became interested in Athletic Training. I began researching only schools
that offered Marine Biology, which were mostly private colleges outside of my home state of
Georgia. I held off on applying to the University of Georgia until right before the deadline due to
the fact that they did not... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
My passion was still in Marine Biology, yet after researching it, there are a limited number of
jobs available. I also love medicine and working with athletes, my next best choice for a major is
Athletic Training. With Athletic Training, I found that there are numerous job opportunities
available. After thinking about it, I realized that majoring in Marine Biology at an expensive
college nowhere close to home, might not be the best decision. I started to look more at the
University of Georgia after I was accepted. After comparing all the colleges, I decided that UGA
would be the most reasonable college to attend to receive a quality education that will contribute to
my life long career goals of becoming an orthopedic

Jerry Lee Lewis s Contribution To Rock And Roll
Great Balls of Fire! Jerry Lee Lewis was a crazy man who hit the rock scene and changed it forever.
His contribution to rock and roll is still recognized today. His music can be heard in movies and
in other artists recordings. Jerry Lee Lewis added his own outrageous style to performances and
was inducted into the rock and rollhall of fame, making him the most influential star up to today.
Jerry s music career began in his childhood. Jerry Lee Lewisgot his first piano from his father
when he was nine. He started playing at his aunt s house and when his father noticed, he got a
loan to pay for it (Carlin, 2006). Without Jerry s support from his father and aunt, Jerry probably

Most of the time when you think of Jerry Lee Lewis, you think of the song Great Balls of Fire,
or Whole Lotta Shakin Goin On, . That is ,because they both were rated #1 on the pop, country,
and R B list. Great Balls of Fire, even sold more than half of a million copies. The next two best
sales for Jerry s songs were 5,000 sales for the songs, Breathless, and High School Confidential,
(Pareles Romanowski, 1983). Jerry made many songs that you may know from the radio,
movies, or even performed by other musicians. Not everyone may have known it was originally
his song, but people who did know him, loved him for those songs! Also, if you see a man
singing while standing on the piano or using their arms and feet, you can know, right away, that
it is Jerry. Jerry was wacky on the piano. Sometimes he even set it on fire (Carlin, 2006)! Most of
the things that Jerry was well known for were his insane acts! All those were great, but they were
definitely not all of Jerry s

PBIS
Understanding Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports (PBIS) and managing student
behavior is an imperative part of all educator responsibility. Starting in the 1980s (Simonsen, 2012),
it was obvious that better, more efficient ways of connecting with students with behavioral
challenges was needed. A form of intervention that went beyond the standard, or traditional means
of being sent out of class, a phone call home which may have led to punishments that escalated the
behaviors instead of working through them, or even being put on suspension which most likely
heighten the stress and allowed for little to no resolution of the behavioral challenges the student(s)
was going through. PBIS is not just for the special needs children of today; the original need was
identified to help the special needs population and has since found its importance throughout most
schoolsystems as a general practice (Simonsen, 2012).
PBIS is referred to as a framework where the emphasis is on a process or approach, rather than a
curriculum, intervention, or practice (Simonsen, 2012). This framework has grown into schools
and has brought with it numerous professional development to help aide the educators and
assistance for students. With more individual changes, class understanding, and a ... Show more

Feminism In For Colored Girls
Many people of many genders identify as a feminist, most will say that they believe in equal
rights for men and women, and some can tell you about the three waves of feminism. For
women of color however, feminism can tend to be a double edge sword. Many black women and
women of color were forced to choose their cause. Would they fight for their rights as a person of
color, or would they march for their rights as a woman? In circles of color, men would often
expect women to abandon their fight as a woman to support men of color. And In circles of women,
white women were the dominant voice and their brand of feminismonly seemed to further the
white women s agenda. It is important when speaking of feminism, we speak about a more
critical, inclusive and diverse branch of feminism. The film that I will be applying feminism
and black feminism to will be For Colored Girls (Perry, Tyler 2010). I will be discussing in which
areas feminism applies and where it does not in For Colored Girls. Feminism is typically defined
as the movement for women to have equal rights as men. Deeper than that however, feminism is a
movement that addresses institutional, social and internalized sexism. This includes issues from
the wage gap, rape culture, and gender roles. Mainstream feminism has three different waves, that
include, women s fight for the right to vote, a broader expansion of equality in the workplace and
for reproductive rights, and finally the wave we are currently in The micro

Racial Gap And Social Mobility
Talking of race or rather ethnicity in line with its effects in today s attainment of life chances and
opportunities by individuals for social mobility, we are prompted to conceptualize on matters
appertaining to civil rights of individuals in various fields ranging from job allocations, medical
attention, education, and distribution of resources. Social mobilityrefers to a tier in an open system
of social strata that involves movement of various categories of people in a societal set up and
majorly highlights issues to do with these people s status characteristics. The most pernicious
racial divide in the current world is in social mobility. This is in reference to the gap that coexists
between a child born white, and a child born black. Racial gaps today are rampant in various
sectors and thus pose a reflection of disproportionate representation of black families at the
lower scale of income appendage (de Souza Briggs, 37 42). The chances of moving up or down
the family income ladder by race and parent s quintile is unequal based on the skewed income
distribution by race. A society can be in a position of high absolute mobility and also low relative
mobility. The availability of at least some social mobility is key in providing conduits to greater
equality in societies with high social inequality.
Social mobility however can typically be hypothesized in terms of its direction and distance based
on the quantity of the movement. There is complexity in trying to analyze the

Summary Of To The Virgins To Make Much Of Time
Beginning of the document content. Robert Herrick s To the Virgins, to Make Much of Time
depicts life as a fleeting moment in which people must not take advantage of. His observations
of nature with references to tomorrow and not losing your prime indicate his strong belief in
living every day as if it were his last. While there have been numerous poems pertaining to living
life to the fullest, Herrick captures this message with such delicacy and precision, it sets it apart
from every other one of his pieces. This poem is a carefully constructed poem expressing
essentially a simple sentiment. It says what it wants with extraordinary technical proficiency,
yet without sacrificing the centrality of its message. Old Time is capitalized to personify time
itself. This gives the effect that if time were a person, his age would grow and grow yet his
influence on everything around him never fades. Herrick also personifies flowers by writing
how one day they smile, and the next they are dead. This fleeting sense of imagery buttresses
Herrick s overall theme of seizing the day. The flowers smile instead of grow or sway in the
wind; this indicates that Herrick purposefully chose to label these as soft creatures that anyone
can relate to. The comparison of a smiling flower against the thought of death is jarring to an
audience. This makes whoever is reading this piece take a step back and initially recognize Herrick
s point. Likewise, by personifying the

Racial Segregation And Racial Discrimination
Race has been a major line of American society since the colonies century playing a powerful role in
the political system throughout United States government. The terminology race has been changed
repeatedly throughout history. African American history of racial segregation created a clear view
of how most racial minorities have been treated throughout history and views and differences
amount racial majority. This paper primarily focus will be the treatment or experience racial
minority faced throughout this historical revolution. African Americanare not the only racial
minority who has been treated inequality or racial oppression, Chinese American and Native
American but African American illustrates a direct view of racial inequality throughout history
which is the reasons why this paper focuses on African American racial inequality. During the
1700s, African who was shipped to American were slaves. Slaves were served to white American
to work on rice and sugar plantation. African were primarily located in the south, having to deal
with the racial segregation of the southern state, passing law to separate people based on color. As
Senator Barack Obama said, In the late fifties and early sixties, a time when segregation was still
the law of the land and opportunity was systematically constricted (Obama, 2008). As a matter of
fact, the term slavery was never discussed until 1808, It were doubtless to be wished, that the power

Criminal Behavior And Its Effects On The Crime
Criminals convicted of sexual offences such as rape and molestation often receive sentences that
are not severe enough to account for their crime. These lax sentences are due to the fact that rape
has had ambiguous definitions in the past portions of the blame are shifted onto the victim or
considered out of the offender s control and the offender s behaviour outside of the crimetend to
impact the severity of their punishment. A contemporary example of this is Brock Turner,
convicted sexual offender of Stanford University. Turner digitally penetrated an intoxicated,
unconscious woman behind a dumpster and served three months in prison. Differential Association
states that criminal behaviour is learned from intimate associates, like Turner s swim team friends.
Neutralisation is the process of learning to rationalise crime by shifting blame and trivialising the
crime. Brock Turner s case is wrought with neutralisation. Turner s feeble sentence isn t an
exception to otherwise proportionate punishments of rapists; it s the rule. His statement, the victim
s statement, media coverage and the public perspective can all be analysed using Neutralisation
Theory and Differential Association to get a better understanding of why rapists are not sufficiently
punished.
Neutralisation Theory and Differential Association both stem from the Positivist School of
Criminology meaning that both surmise that punishment should fit the criminal not the crime. This
simply isn t applicable to

Organic Farming Vs Organic Food
Organic farming is the production of food without the use of synthetic chemicals or genetically
modified components (Better Health, 2017). Consumers and health experts have long debated
whether organic foods are more nutritious and safer than conventional food (Harvard Health, 2012).
There is contradicting evidence surrounding the issue, and many choose to eat organic foods as
they believe they have higher nutritional outcomes and less chemical residues than conventional
foods. Others believe that conventional foods are no worse for health than their organic counterparts.
Background
Organic food producers and farmers grow and produce their food without synthetic chemicals like
pesticides and fertilisers and do not use genetically modified (GM) components. Naturally occurring
pesticides such as pyrethrins, light oils, copper and sulphur are permitted in organic farming
(Better Health, 2017). Organic produce available in Australia include fruit and vegetables, dried
legumes, grains, meat and meat products, dairy foods, eggs, honey and some processed foods
(Better Health, 2017). The term organic is not currently regulated under Australian law, which
means that companies and businesses are not required to follow specific regulations or a Standard
in order to claim organic on their products (Australian Organic, 2017).
Discussion
There is sufficient evidence that organic foods have higher nutritional outcomes than conventional
foods. According to a 2014 study led by Prof.

Though the traffic to Soundbuzz was in the millions of unique users, the customers were not buying the fee based content. Despite all the efforts by Soundbuzz, it was faced with becoming irrelevant due to its flawed business model. In 2001, the Soundbuzz management decided to abandon the B2C model and instead focus back on a B2B model that was based on the deal they had closed with Lycos almost a year earlier. Aligned with the change in business model, a new B2B revenue model was also established. This model saw Soundbuzz aggregating record labels music content and providing a technical platform and content management service to other portals. In November 2001, Soundbuzz provided an end to end digital music solution for Hewlett Packard s (HP) digital music service that included developing a customised on line music store, aggregation of digital music content and creation of unique promotions for HP with applications to its products. Soon after, Soundbuzz closed deals with other regional and local portals to provide them with digital music. In early 2002, Soundbuzz decided to diversify in the wireless and device area. The Pacific Oil Company Look, you asked for my advice, and I gave it to you, Frank Kelsey said. If I were you, I wouldnt make any more concessions! Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Reliant was expanding its manufacturing operations in the production of plastic pipe and pipe fittings, particularly in Europe. The use of plastic as a substitute for iron or copper pipe was gaining rapid acceptance in the construction trades, and the European markets were significantly more progressive in adopting the plastic pipe. Reliant already had developed a small polyvinyl chloride production facility at Abbeville, France, and Pacific constructed a pipeline from its petrochemical plant at Antwerp to Abbeville. The 1979 contract between Pacific Oil and Reliant was a fairly standard one for the industry and due to expire in December of 1982. The contract was negotiated by Reliants purchasing managers in Europe, headquartered in Brussels, and the senior marketing managers of Pacific Oils European offices, located in Paris. Each of these individuals reported to the vice presidents in charge of their companies European offices, who in turn reported back to their respective corporate headquarters in the States. The 1982 Contract Renewal In February 1982, negotiations began to extend the four year contract beyond the December 31, 1982, expiration date. • 5. Sambo Stereotypes Essay The Sambo stereotype of Black men is prominent on many televisions shows that includes a Black male character. Black men who are portrayed as Sambo are shown as a very happy, lazy, docile, aggregable, and carefree man. This stereotype is used in television shows because he can be laughed at, hence, humor is a form of oppression (Drew 4). In Tia Tyree s article African AmericanStereotypes in Reality Television, she studies 10 different reality television shows and their inclusion on Black stereotypes and found that male was the only gender to have participants coded as old stereotypes, which were a Sambo, Uncle Tom, and Coon (403). In season 3 of the show The Apprentice, one of the contestants Craig, was categorized as the old stereotype... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In the comedy television series Uncle Buck premiered in mid 2016 was a television adaptation of the movie Uncle Buck (1989). The show was based on an uncle stepping into the life of his brother and family, however, the character Uncle Buck played by Mike Epps is the epitome of Sambo. In the first season, episode 1 he says, I m a free spirit, you need to let me fly (Uncle Buck (2016) Season 1). This line coincides with the idea of the carefreeness a Sambo. A few scenes later, he is seen taking a nap shortly after being given the responsibility of taking care of his nieces and nephew and after being awakened by them goes to the kitchen and drinks orange juice straight from the jug. These actions exhibit traits associated with the Lazy Black Man. However, Uncle Buck does not represent all Black men and evidently many can tell this is an over exaggeration of the stereotype, yet, many such as white Americans may take the overarching idea that Black men are lazy, carefree and very happy go lucky and apply it to situations in which they encounter Black ... • 6. Synopsis Of Jian Jian They still haunt him. The memories from a long, long time ago, before the holy grounds of Promised Land were painted crimson red and his hands were stained with the blood of his beloved brethren. He can remember the peaceful times, albeit the longer he gazes back into the very depths of his past, the worse the sinner feels and an unbearable agony tugs at his shattered heart, playing an unknown melody that is sorrow. The immensely familiar, yet unknown voices call out for him every now and then, coaxing him to not grieve over what had happened for there was no way he could change his reckless doings. But how.. how could he, possibly stop mourning, or forget? No matter how many times he d tried to forget, all of his attempts were fruitless. He believes he is cursed to have the story of the very end of Heaven carved into his memory as if it were a cold stone. After all, there was no way he could forget that fatal decision he made the very last day he had seen his beloved ones before he was considered a traitor and a murderer in their eyes. The first time he had sinned. It feels like tomorrow when the Great Gates of Heaven were considered another word for home, family, where everyone was welcomed with open arms and was granted safety, comfort, warmth, love anything and everything one could dream of. TRICARE not only replaced CHAMPUS but its purpose was also to facilitate members with access to better health care. Unfortunately, TRICARE has gone through many changes and upheavals since its inception in 1997. First, they began by dividing the company into regions. Each member was placed into a region based on where the military member was stationed. If the member was stationed in Maryland then his family belonged to the East Region. Unfortunately, there were many problems with this plan. First, some military members and their families did not live in the same regions. Therefore, the families either had to travel... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... TRICARE has had many learning curves to overcome. In the beginning, the contractors were not prepared to handle the amount of members that serve the United States Military. Also, they were unprepared for the multitude of health issues that were plaguing the families. One such issue was the Gulf War Syndrome which the United States Government was attempting to cover up. Over the years, their service to members has improved but has a long way to go in order to compete with some of the private health insurance plans that are available. Many families who have major health issues find it more convenient to pay for private health insurance. This also allows for those families to get care without going through the bureaucracy and red tape that surrounds TRICARE s policies. However, not all has been lost. TRICARE is striving to succeed in providing optimal care for their members. They have taken the initiative to enact new policies and benefits that allow for members to see many private and local physicians and dentists. This has had a great impact on how TRICARE is being perceived not only by their members but also the surrounding communities. He wished to spend more time with his family, but felt easier in the presence of the winged warriors, cooking for them day and night. She was too young to know about the world around her and was safe. Woman during this period were marrying as young as 15 years old and were marrying men well into their 30s. This caused a lack of communication and love between a married couple and usually resulted in the man having control over the woman. The idea of men having control over women in marriagecan be seen in Kate Chopin s The Story of an Hour. The ham agar plate grows the most bacterial colonies because this food has the most moisture. Germs like living in moisture and this is why the test could not be done on a normal tiled floor but instead had to be done with artificially covered surfaces. It also makes sense that germs would stick to a food that was wet instead of a food that was dry. Cheese had the second most bacterial colonies, and we could say this could be because of it being the second moistest food. Lastly, was the chip. The chip got less bacterial colonies because it had no moisture what so ever. The difference in the lowest and the highest on the ham varied widely from the lowest and the highest on the chip. The lowest in the ham is 12 (ham on a bricked, or tiled surface) and the highest is 25 (ham on a bricked surface) whereas the lowest for a chip is 9 (chip on a tiled surface) and the highest is 15 which is a carpeted surface. • 11. Minimum Wage Is An Issue That Is Causing Uproar Amongst... Yimaj Sherif ENG 1520 Dr.James 16 August 2015 Minnsincsndcdcsdc Minimum wage is an issue that is causing uproar amongst working class citizens. For many workers, a simple increase of 30% in the federal minimum wage could be the difference between living in or out of poverty. Over the past few decades there have been countless increases in salaries, although none of those went to people who actually needed it. To this day the rich continue to get richer, vastly increasing their wealth, while the poor are struggling to provide basic necessities such as food, shelter, and clothing. While the rich keep get richer and the poor continue getting poorer, we have seen a decrease in the middle class; median income has turned into upper or lower middle class. Establishing legislation that provides workers with a wage that is able to sustain simple necessities is necessary, it would provide ample support for those who may not have been able to afford living to take a step away from poverty and move into the middle class. The minimum wage was set with the passage of The Fair Labor Standards Act of 1938 (FLSA). Its initial price point was $0.25 per hour, and it has been raised twenty two times since. Resistance Training Essay Resistance training is an exercise that exploits progressive resistance movements, typically with free weights or weight machines, to build strength or muscle endurance (Mood et al 2003). Weight training has become very popular in recent years and is now used for a variety of reasons including performance enhancement, competitive weight lifting and to increase physical fitness (Mood et al 2003). Interval training involves a repeated series of exercisework bouts interspersed with rest of relief periods. This is a popular method among athletes because it allows the athlete to exercise at higher relative intensities during the work interval than are possible with longer duration, continuous training (Heyward 2002). It might be more appropriate to refer to this type of training as vo2 max or aerobic capacity training since the athlete trains at or very near the intensity which demands vo2 max of the system (Daniels and Scardina, 1984). Interval training can be referred to in several different ways. Fox (1977) refers to two types of interval training, low power output interval training and high power output interval training. High power output interval training involves exercise and rest periods of less than one minute. Gibala and Mcgee (2008) refer to High intensity training. This generally refers to repeated sessions of relatively short intermittent exercise often performed with an all out . Minimum volume of High intensity training may be necessary to increase VO2 peak. Alternatively, Astrand and Rodahl (1977) say that exercise bouts lasting 3 5 minutes each are the longest recommended and are considered optimum for training aerobic processes. The purpose of high intensity training is to repeatedly stress the physiological systems that will be used during specific endurance type exercise (Daniels and Scardina 1984) than which is required during a specific activity. Intensity was the most important factor in producing improvements in aerobic power, regardless of level of exercise, duration frequency, program length or initial fitness (Wenger and bell, ... • 20. The Theme Of The Lesson Before Dying There are many points to consider in creation of a good story that will capture and deliver the main idea to the audience. The most important of all those points is the setting physical location and time in the story. For example, if the author writes a story about polar bears but set it in South America, the story would not go along with the plot, losing its ability to create a clear message for the audience; Or if the story doesn t have setting, its characters are simply in a vacuum with no reason to act and develop the main idea. In the story, The Lesson before dying by Ernest J. Gaines, the setting creates the central idea because it sets the basis for the main theme, the characters who develop the idea and actions within their environment to reflect the issues of the story. The setting is a physical location of events, while the central idea is the main thoughts that author want the reader to remember the most. The Lesson before Dying is a fictional work about injustice and discrimination of blacks. To emphasize the theme, the author set the story in the city where the history of segregation between races is very obvious. The narrator, Grant Wiggins, describes his town as a place that is divided in two parts: whites and blacks. Name the three disaccharides commonly found in foods and their component monosaccharides. In what foods are these sugars found? There are three types of monosaccharides; Glucose, Fructose, and Galactose. Monosaccharides are a type of sugar and often called simple carbohydrates. These different sugars all have the same structures consisting of 6 carbon atoms, 12 hydrogens, and 6 oxygen atoms. They all follow the rules of chemistry with each carbon atom having 4 bonds, oxygen having 2, and hydrogen 1 bond. The difference between each of these is the order of arrangement of the atoms and therefore each provide a different amount of sweetness. Glucose is also known as blood sugar and is very important to the body s activities as it is an essential energy source. Fructose, having the same chemical formula of glucose, is considered the sweetest of the sugars. Galactose is a naturally occurring sugar in foods as a single sugar. The order difference of these bonds is shown in the following reference pictures found in Understanding Nutrition. At phase one, the female preferences evolve because the trait that they prefer is favored by natural selection and as a result, their offspring are more likely to have the beneficial trait. When there is a distinct difference in a species, which is linked with the selective advantage, the females tend to choose the males that clearly distinguish the difference that is to be observed and they will prefer the most advantageous type. • 29. Hopelessness Theory Of Depression Hopelessness Theory of Depression. The hopelessness theory of depression (Abramson et al., 1989), which is a based on the reformulated theory of helplessness and depression (Abramson, Seligman, Teasdale, 1978), provides a conceptualization for the underlying vulnerability in the proposed integrative biopsychosocial etiological model discussed in this review. The hopelessness theory of depression is a cognitive diathesis stress model that outlines a series of three cognitive inference tendencies that interact with each other and negative life events to contribute to the etiology of MDD (Abramson et al., 1989). These three cognitive inference tendencies include: (1) inferring stable and global causes for the event, (2) inferring negative consequences of the event, and (3) inferring negative self characteristics as a result of the event (Abramson et al., 1989). The hopelessness theory of depression hypothesized that the depressogenic inferential style was one that included all three of the cognitive inference tendencies (Abramson et al., 1989). Furthermore, the theory posited that the objective severity of the negative event required to result in an episode of MDD was inversely proportional to level of the depressogenic inferential style, such that the higher the cognitive vulnerability, the lower the objective severity of the triggering life event, and vice versa (Abramson et al., 1989). It endures because it s one of the most emotive pieces of music there is. The hopelessness that comes with not being able to prevent or reverse a loss pulsates in every word, note and chord from the first transfixing strum. The heartbreak swells with Rain s multiple peaks, predominately characterized by wailing guitars, falling strings and Prince s pleading vocals. Female Power, Maternity and Genderbending in Shakespeare s Antony and Cleopatra The 19th century essayist and literary critic William Hazlitt wrote of Cleopatra, She is voluptuous, ostentatious, conscious, boastful of her charms, haughty, tyrannical, [and] fickle, which are great and unpardonable faults (Hazlitt 2 3). Much of the criticism of Antony and Cleopatra has recycled this judgement, depicting Cleopatra as a villainess uses her eroticism and sexuality to motivate Antony to seek power. Cleopatra is memorable for her propensity for violence as well. While Antony and Cleopatra was written after the death of a violent English queen, Elizabeth I, Shakespeare may have been faced with a dramatic dilemma: how to make a woman ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The binary oppositions of masculine and feminine are thus personified by Caesar and Cleopatra, not by Antony, whose men often regard him as the pawn of the deceptive queen and thus not a real man. On the contrary, Robert Miola says, Caesar s sense of purpose and public responsibility directly opposes Cleopatra s love of idleness and luxury (129), a conclusion supported by the fact that it is Caesar who, after the deaths of Antony and Cleopatra, provides some closure to the political chaos that has dominated the play. Such an assertion that the danger of Cleopatra s sexuality lies in her Egyptian surroundings requires further detail here. The Orient represented a strange, but terrifyingly fascinating world to the Elizabethans. While it was decidedly inferior and politically weak, the Orient also held a dangerous mystique. As Lucy Hughes Hallett attests, poets, playwrights, historians and artists have found the idea of Cleopatra s foreignness, or otherness, a suitable method by which to explain away her dangerous sexuality. In other words, the fact that Cleopatra effectively seduced and influenced two powerful Roman men baffled Western thinkers who could only explain it by attributing it to her foreignness or otherness. Not surprisingly, Shakespeare succumbs to a similar artistic temptation. In the first ten lines of the play, the surrender of Roman dignity to Egyptian passion is made clear. They don t realize when they eat, wear, or build something that none of it would be possible without plants. Complex life itself only exists thanks to the evolution of plants. Throughout this essay, I hope to highlight some of the most important aspects of plants including their ecological roles, historical roles, source of food, medicinal uses, spices, erosion control, soilcontribution, and many others. The list of plant importance could go on and on forever, but these seem to play the most pertinent role in our society. Plants provide many products that benefit other organisms and their environments. Perhaps one of the most important roles of the plant is photosynthesis. Photosynthesis is the process by which light energy is converted into a usable form. Of this energy obtained by the plant, ten percent is passed on through each level of the trophic chain, and the rest is given off as heat. This theory is known as the 10% Law. The process of photosynthesis also consumes carbon dioxide, and releases oxygen as a byproduct. This is arguably one of the most important functions of plants, because oxygen is such a vital ingredient to life on Earth. With their oxygen producing capabilities, plants have been coined as, The Lungs of the Earth . Another benefit that plants provide to their ecosystems that has only been discovered since an increase in human pollution is their detoxification potential. Many plants ... Since girls tend to start offending at a younger age, they should receive more attention in terms of prevention but they do not (NIJ, N.A.). Selecting female juvenile delinquencyas an issue since it should receive more attention than it has been granted in the past seems adequate. Feminism In For Colored Girls Many people of many genders identify as a feminist, most will say that they believe in equal rights for men and women, and some can tell you about the three waves of feminism. For women of color however, feminism can tend to be a double edge sword. Many black women and women of color were forced to choose their cause. Would they fight for their rights as a person of color, or would they march for their rights as a woman? In circles of color, men would often expect women to abandon their fight as a woman to support men of color. And In circles of women, white women were the dominant voice and their brand of feminismonly seemed to further the white women s agenda. Social mobilityrefers to a tier in an open system of social strata that involves movement of various categories of people in a societal set up and majorly highlights issues to do with these people s status characteristics. The most pernicious racial divide in the current world is in social mobility. This is in reference to the gap that coexists between a child born white, and a child born black. Robert Herrick s To the Virgins, to Make Much of Time depicts life as a fleeting moment in which people must not take advantage of. His observations of nature with references to tomorrow and not losing your prime indicate his strong belief in living every day as if it were his last. While there have been numerous poems pertaining to living life to the fullest, Herrick captures this message with such delicacy and precision, it sets it apart from every other one of his pieces. This poem is a carefully constructed poem expressing essentially a simple sentiment. It says what it wants with extraordinary technical proficiency, yet without sacrificing the centrality of its message. Old Time is capitalized to personify time itself. This gives the effect that if time were a person, his age would grow and grow yet his influence on everything around him never fades. Herrick also personifies flowers by writing how one day they smile, and the next they are dead. This fleeting sense of imagery buttresses Herrick s overall theme of seizing the day. The flowers smile instead of grow or sway in the wind; this indicates that Herrick purposefully chose to label these as soft creatures that anyone can relate to. The comparison of a smiling flower against the thought of death is jarring to an audience. This makes whoever is reading this piece take a step back and initially recognize Herrick s point. • 54. Racial Segregation And Racial Discrimination Race has been a major line of American society since the colonies century playing a powerful role in the political system throughout United States government. The terminology race has been changed repeatedly throughout history. African American history of racial segregation created a clear view of how most racial minorities have been treated throughout history and views and differences amount racial majority. This paper primarily focus will be the treatment or experience racial minority faced throughout this historical revolution. African Americanare not the only racial minority who has been treated inequality or racial oppression, Chinese American and Native American but African American illustrates a direct view of racial inequality throughout history which is the reasons why this paper focuses on African American racial inequality. During the 1700s, African who was shipped to American were slaves. Slaves were served to white American to work on rice and sugar plantation. • 55. Criminal Behavior And Its Effects On The Crime Criminals convicted of sexual offences such as rape and molestation often receive sentences that are not severe enough to account for their crime. These lax sentences are due to the fact that rape has had ambiguous definitions in the past portions of the blame are shifted onto the victim or considered out of the offender s control and the offender s behaviour outside of the crimetend to impact the severity of their punishment. A contemporary example of this is Brock Turner, convicted sexual offender of Stanford University. Turner digitally penetrated an intoxicated, unconscious woman behind a dumpster and served three months in prison. Differential Association states that criminal behaviour is learned from intimate associates, like Turner s swim team friends. Neutralisation is the process of learning to rationalise crime by shifting blame and trivialising the crime. Brock Turner s case is wrought with neutralisation. Turner s feeble sentence isn t an exception to otherwise proportionate punishments of rapists; it s the rule. His statement, the victim s statement, media coverage and the public perspective can all be analysed using Neutralisation Theory and Differential Association to get a better understanding of why rapists are not sufficiently punished. Neutralisation Theory and Differential Association both stem from the Positivist School of Criminology meaning that both surmise that punishment should fit the criminal not the crime. This simply isn t applicable to ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 56. Organic Farming Vs Organic Food Organic farming is the production of food without the use of synthetic chemicals or genetically modified components (Better Health, 2017). Consumers and health experts have long debated whether organic foods are more nutritious and safer than conventional food (Harvard Health, 2012). There is contradicting evidence surrounding the issue, and many choose to eat organic foods as they believe they have higher nutritional outcomes and less chemical residues than conventional foods. Others believe that conventional foods are no worse for health than their organic counterparts. Background Organic food producers and farmers grow and produce their food without synthetic chemicals like pesticides and fertilisers and do not use genetically modified (GM) components. Naturally occurring pesticides such as pyrethrins, light oils, copper and sulphur are permitted in organic farming (Better Health, 2017). Organic produce available in Australia include fruit and vegetables, dried legumes, grains, meat and meat products, dairy foods, eggs, honey and some processed foods (Better Health, 2017). The term organic is not currently regulated under Australian law, which means that companies and businesses are not required to follow specific regulations or a Standard in order to claim organic on their products (Australian Organic, 2017). Discussion There is sufficient evidence that organic foods have higher nutritional outcomes than conventional foods. According to a 2014 study led by Prof. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
