Critical Analysis Of Edward Scissorhands
Edward Scissorhands, directed by Tim Burton in 1990, features Burton s distinctive style, themes and
story elements. Moreover, it is influenced stylistically by the German Expressionism; distortion of
objects and bodies, such as the trimmed hedges, Gothic elements, for instance Edward s castle or his
clothes, and the music played throughout the film, curves and crooked lines in the pathway of the
neighbourhood, and the Chiaroscuro lighting (low key lightning) in most of the scenes. Peg Boggs
(Dianne Wiest), a local Avon door to door saleswoman tries to sell her products around her
neighbourhood, until she arrives to the old, abandoned Gothic mansion in the outskirts of Spring
Hopes. There, she discovers Edward (Johnny Depp), a bizarre creation resulting from an unfinished
experiment by a mad scientist, who died just ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
One of the most relevant arguments for claiming that the film is good enough to recommend it is that
the film has authorship personality; that is, throughout the movie audience may realise that there are
lots of Burton s characteristic features: such as the visual style, contrasting the pastel colours (blue,
green, orange, and pink) in the houses of Spring Hopes, with the Gothic ones (mainly black) in
Edward s clothes and castle. It seems Edward is brought to the neighbourhood to show that there is
another valid lifestyle; the otherness has to be accepted even though it seems to be too bizarre at first.
Furthermore, the exploration of the otherness and the characters, such as Edward, who exist outside
the boundaries of normality is a topic that is highly relevant, because it may show the audience that no
matter how different a thing is, all that it is important is that is good enough for you. Edward
Scissorhands, summing up, is a good film because it has an interior meaning, that is, it makes the
audience think outside the box, and extract a useful moral from the

Principles of Marketing Report on the UK marketing environment for the iPhone
Executive Summary
This report will analyze and discuss the most important elements of the marketing environment for the
launch of the iPhone, that is to say the main three levels of the marketing environment: the micro
environment through the customers, competitors and distributors, the macro environment through
technological, economical, social, political and environmental forces and finally the internal
environment through the relation of Apple with its employees and its marketing philosophy. The
analysis for the micro environment is based on Porter s 5 forces model and the one on the macro
environment is based on PEST analysis. The report ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Apple has already sold more than 39 million iPods in 2006, thus the company can count on its existing
customers for the iPhone. The other potential customers for this product can also be: the people
interested by technology or technophobes, middle and high class segments who are willing to pay
more for a better user experience, professionals in media and design and finally young people who are
interested by the image reflected by the product.
Competitors
With the iPhone, unlike the iPod, Apple is not creating a new market it is muscling the mobile market
(BBC). In fact in the UK, more than 80% of the households have already a mobile phone; however the
mobile market is changing so the customers are not only buying a mobile phone for its functionality
but also for the other features that it can provide such as the design for example. Since, there is an
established market; there will be two main types of competition: one against the distributor and
another one against the product.
The competition against the distributor is particularly important in this case as there is only one
company distributing it in the UK: O2. One of the rapid reactions to the launch of the iPhone; is by
Vodafone who has created a service called Music Station to be launched for Christmas and which will
give unlimited access to its customers to more than 1 million music tracks.
Concerning the competition against the iPhone itself, there are already mobile phones in the market
that provide

The Bill Of Rights And The Constitution
Before dealing with individual amendments I would like to deal with the entire Bill of Rights and the
constitution itself. The framers of the Constitution were wary of ceding too much power to the federal
government. They rightly believed many local citizens would never make it to the capital but would
interact with local government, so the power should be kept at the most local level possible. It was
impossible to foresee in 1791 a world with video conferencing, 24 hr news and the ability to fly
around the world within 36 hours. Because of the world we live in, I believe it is more necessary to
make the Constitution and the Bill of Rights the foundational laws of the land. In 1833, the Supreme
Court ruled in Barron v. Baltimore that the Bill of rights was written out of fear by the Antifederalist
to constrain the federal government. We have given the individual States the power to make laws that
conflict and contradict with Federal law, the laws of other states and national norms. It is these
contradictions that allowed the Jim Crow laws and the doctrine of Separate but Equal to flourish in the
aftermath of the Civil War. I believe that the law should be formulated at the highest level and filter
down to the lowest. Make the Constitution and the Bill of Rights the total law of the land and no other
law in any state may contradict them to ensure the beginnings of equality among all citizens. The First
Amendment states, Congress shall make no law respecting an

My Neighbour Totoro Essay
My Neighbor Totoro makes us question if it s necessary to have an enemy or major conflict in order to
make a great movie. Although some might have found this film strange due to simplicity and anti
climactic plot I believe that is what helped it become so popular around the world.
The film My Neighbor Totoro was one that was focused on the adventures that Satsuki and Mei took
as they moved into a new home in order to be closer to their mother due to her being ill. My Neighbor
Totoro has become one of the beloved of all family films (Ebert) the positive message that this film
gives substitutes for not having that enemy or conflict other movies are so concentrated on. The
Wizard of Oz has Dorothy, who needs to find her way back home In order to be safe and Finding
Nemo has Nemo, who has to go through extreme measures in order to be back with his father, both
examples of popular movies that used an enemy or bad situation in order to help create an exciting
movie. Although My Neighbor Totoro did not have that aspect of danger as most other movies do, ...

The children movies nowadays in America are filled with little bits and pieces of aggression and
rebellious attitude, movies such as The Lion King and Moana are both great examples since a movie
such as the lion king, was all about killing in order to survive. These films also promote a mentality
where you do what you want, even if it is something that you are not allowed to do and these are
movies that are extremely popular with children today. The positive and friendliness message My
Neighbor Totoro gives throughout the whole movie is one you definitely want your kids to learn
therefore this leads me to believe that this is one of the many reasons that My Neighbor Totoro has
become extremely popular not only in Japan but in the entire

Bandura ( 1977 ) Derived Self Efficacy As A Sub Theory...
Bandura (1977) derived Self efficacy as a sub theory stemming from Social cognitive theory. This was
defined by Bandura as Belief s in one s capabilities to organize and execute the courses of action
required to produce given attainments. The model of self efficacy was reinvented via Bandura (1997)
in order to incorporate elements that are individually specific that directly influences a person s level
of self efficacy. One of the most important factors to determining an individual s self efficacy was that
of mastery experience coupled with the person s perception of those prior accomplishments.
Imaginable experiences within more recent years has started to appear more and more as another
important factor to pre determining athlete s self efficacy. Therefore this case study will look into both
of these areas in terms of Tyson Fury s latest bout against Wladimir Klitschko. Martin, and Hall
(1995), showed individuals in the imagery conditions spent significantly more time practicing the
technique. McKenzie, and Howe (1997) also studied the effects of imagery within a task of dart
throwing, and concluded that imagery could aid the performance in such a task. Interestingly though,
individuals who had prior experience within the area, elicited a belief in the performance enhancement
of imagery. However, Cumming, and Hall (2002) showed that athletes of different levels (National,
Provincial, Recreational) show different belief s on imagery suggesting an engagement with the

Feeding Tube Refusal Dilemma Essay
Feeding Tube Refusal Dilemma A 28 year old female with cerebral palsy and debilitating arthritis is in
the hospital for treatment. She is immobile and unable to perform basic tasks on her own. Due to her
condition, she is having trouble eating and in order to help, the doctor believes that a feeding tube
(PEG tube) should be surgically inserted. When told about the treatment, the patient refuses surgery.
She is deemed competent and understands her situation. In this situation, I propose that the care team
should respect the wishes of the patient and let her die. It is clearly stated that the patient is
autonomous and aware of the potential risks of refusing treatment. She is willing to accept the fact that
if she does not receive the feeding tube, she will die of malnutrition. In addition, she is not consenting
to the surgery and they cannot legally force her to accept treatment to have the PEG tube inserted. The
conditions for consent include competence, understanding and appreciation of information, and
voluntariness free from coercion, and undue influence (Young, Ch. 44). She has fulfilled the
requirements for competence because the care team acknowledges that the patient recognizes that
there is a decision that needs to be made, clearly understands the information and treatment options,
and the risks involved with each decision (Orr, CBHD). There is no question that the patient
understands and appreciates the information because the care team is aware that she is able

While camping is generally an inexpensive way to spend some time outdoors, the simple meals that
follow will can help campers stay to a very minimal budget. It is important for beginner campers to
realize that there are many simple meals that can be made without purchasing specialized camping
cookware (which can be very expensive!). If you don t have any cookware that can be used over an
open fire, check out your local thrift stores for simple cookware that can be used. A frying pan (cast
iron is preferable) and pot for boiling water is enough cookware for most camping trips. There are also
many foods that can be cooked in aluminum foil alone without the use of any other cookware.
Develop meals around the materials that you have and foods that you like to assure an inexpensive
trip. Here are some cheap and easy to make meal ideas to get you started. Pancakes make a cheap and
easy camping breakfast. A plastic drinking cup with a snap on lid is great for mixing the batter (by
shaking the sealed cup) and pouring onto a pan. Instant rice that is made from boiling water is another
inexpensive meal starter. Either eaten alone or with meat and vegetables, instant rice is filling and very
cheap. Other foods made from boiling or hot water that are inexpensive and can be the basis for cheap
camping meals include Ramen Noodles, oatmeal, and instant potatoes. The campfire baked potato is

The Americanization of Puerto Rico
When island inhabitants first heard that Americans were planning on invading Puerto Rico and driving
out Spain s rulers, Puerto Ricans welcomed the North Americans to their home. (To view an in
progress work dealing with the Spanish American War from a pro colonial expansion point of view,

having a voice in politics and government and with the knowledge that America was a democracy,
there was hope that this status quo would change. Although Puerto Ricans felt sentiments of fear at the
arrival of the Americans, this did not curb their welcoming and enabling the American invasion.
Unfortunately, the outcome of the invasion was not as ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Unfortunately, subsequent events in Puerto Rico s history prove that this type of view toward granting
of citizenship proposed in Ferré s novel was one of disillusionment. Reading the following paragraph
will help to clarify:
For this reason, our brand new American citizenship was hailed as a godsend, and a first class
celebration was in order. We would now have a definite identification with the most powerful country
in the world, and the golden eagle would be stamped on the cover of our passport. Henceforth, we
would cherish it as our magic shield: we could travel anywhere, no matter how far or exotic our
destination; we had the inalienable right to political asylum at the local American Embassy; and the
American ambassador would be our civil servant. (Ferré, p. 16)
First, I mentioned in an earlier paper of Early United States Rule that it appeared to me that citizenship
was granted conditionally, especially to be used as leverage against the Philippines who were another
United States territory but were not going to be granted citizenship. Second, a Puerto Rican historian,
Arturo Morales Carrión, explained that American citizenship was not in any way accompanied by full
political rights or self determination. United States still elected the governor, attorney general,
commissioner of education, and justices of Puerto Rican Supreme Court and the governor elected
treasurer and the interior among other positions. With the

History of Synesthesia Essay examples
History of Synethesia
July 11,2006 History of Synesthesia
Synesthesia has been known to medicine for almost three hundred years. After interest peaked
between 1860 and 1930, it was forgotten, because psychology and neurology were premature sciences.
Psychological theory was full with associations, and concepts of nervous tissue were insignificant.
Subjective experience, such as synesthesia, was believed not a proper subject for scientific study.(pg3)
Synesthesia s history is interesting but also important if we are to understand its neurological basis,
because the word was used to describe diverse phenomena in different eras. Central to the initial
approach in 1980 was a sharp separation of synesthesia as a sensual perception ... Show more content

There is an important clue in his famous dictum, stop thinking! that relates to one of synesthesia s
implications in reversing the roles of reason and emotion. Kandinsky grasped that creativity is an
experience, not an abstract idea, and that a mind that incessantly analyzes what is there impedes that
experience.
(Kandinsky s 1910 adjuration was, lend your ears to music, open your eyes to painting, and . . . stop
thinking! Just ask yourself whether the work has enabled you to walk about into a hitherto unknown
world. If the answer is yes, what more do you want? )
People were intrigued with the notion that synesthesia seemed to have a direct link to the unconscious.
With time, however, attention turned to objective behavior that could be quantified or measured by
machines. Humans became subjects, the individual was abandoned, and the mind temporarily became
a black box.
Mechanistic explanations have been plentiful throughout synesthesia s history. The notion of crossed
wires turns up repeatedly. As early as 1704, Sir Isaac Newton struggled to

Lennie s Isolation
Of Mice and Men by John Steinbeck is novella that follows the relationship between George and

novella for most men work alone. In the beginning of the book, the two are turning a new leaf by
getting a new job on a farm where they meet other workers like Slim, Curly, Carlson and etc. At the
end of the book, the workers are on a manhunt for Lennie when they find his dead body and George

Big Rock Candy Mountain
Today I was given a set of poems to read and choose one to analyze. I decided I would use Big Rock
Candy Mountain as my poem of choice. I recognize this poem as a song written by Harry McClintock
in 1928. The song is one of the few that can still make sense in today s culture and society and in my
opinion is the mark of a truly great writer. The speaker of the poem is a hobo that was hiking on the
trails. Given that the poem was written in 1928, during the Great Depression, he sounds wistful and
hopeful of the mystical Big Rock Candy Mountains. He is talking to some folks he happened to pass
by on his way down the track. The speaker ultimately sounds like someone who is down on their luck
and only has hope left. Without taking the time frame in which the poem was written, you can feel an
undertone of depression and longing. Throughout the poem, the hobo speaks about this perfect
paradise in the Big Rock Candy ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The only word that is never rhymed is the word Mountains which is the last line of every stanza. I feel
the writer chose not to rhyme it to further set the Big Rock Candy Mountains apart as paradise on
Earth. The title of the poem as well as it being the last line of each stanza further emphasizes this.
The Big Rock Candy Mountain is the hobo s version of paradise on Earth. The theme for this poem is
dreams and wishful thinking. The author illustrates this by having the poem have a nice upbeat tone to
it. Where all your hopes and dreams will come true and you can just spend your day how you may.
Poems like these are still written in today s society but are expressed through different mediums than
the poetry of old. While this song was originally released in 1928, it didn t gain popularity until 1939.
In today s society, poems are found more often in music than in a book, although those are common
too. Song s in today s society often rhyme or tell a story and can be analyzed just as poetry

Acetaminophen
Acetaminophen (AAP) which broadly used as an antipyretic and analgesic drug is one reason for
hepatotoxicity in humans and experimental animals at high doses(32). The toxic metabolite of APP
that produced in liver by the cytochrome P450 pathway is named NAPQI(6) that conjugated with

high reactive quinone imine production. This matches with sulphahydryl groups in proteins and result

Digital Technology Into The Learning Process Essay
Academia has been slow to incorporate digital technology into the learning process, and English
courses seem to lag behind most other subject areas. Even when trying, College professors are
challenged because post secondary students separate into different stratifications... according to their
previous academic, social, and professional experiences with computers experiences that, in turn, are
often dependent on age, class, race, and gender (Bancroft, 2016, p. 47). These stratifications create
Rainie s definition of the digital divide: the gap between those who access and use computers and the
internet and those who do not (Bancroft, 2016, p. 47). Many students can access the internet or
computers, but there is an additional expectations in collegiate education. Writing centers regularly
work with students who cannot confidently or successfully use technology for academic purposes,
which becomes a primary barrier to their academic success. Writing centers need to actively attempt to
reduce this divide through instruction, application, and adaptation to help struggling students.
Recognizing the Divide
Literacy with technology takes on additional expectations when considering collegiate academics
which creates a digital divide. This digital divide exists in most colleges at multiple levels: Students,

Red Dead Redemption Analysis Essay
Critical Analysis of a Game:
Red Dead Redemption

The game I have chosen for my critical analysis is Red Dead Redemption. Red Dead Redemption was
made, published, and engineered by a company called Rockstar Games (Rockstar Website). The major
distributor of the game is a company who happens to own Rockstar, Take Two interactive. Being one
of the most successful video game developers to date, Rockstar is famous for creating the popular and
controversial game series Grand Theft Auto. Rockstar differs very much from other video game

I played the game on my Xbox 360 console. To capture the experience of the Wild West, Rockstar
consulted some historical experts in the field, along with channelling a lot of time and money into the
graphics of the game. According to a New York Times online article, Rockstar spent between 80 100
million dollars on developing the game (Schiesel 2010). I mention this statistic because this comes to
show the new era of devotion Rockstar brought to video game production.
In any video game, soundtracks can be an incredible boost in its overall character. The soundtracks in
Red Dead Redemption are authentic; it gives the game historical flavour. What I mean by this is you
truly get a feeling of the Western experience. Rockstar brought on composers Woody Jackson and Bill
Elm. In a behind the scenes video, the composers explain that it is essential for them to find a balance,
paying homage to what was there but also trying to add our stamp to the music (GamerSpawn, 2010).
Another interesting fact they mentioned was the ability for the game to launch certain lines of music to
start based on your actions. For example, if you jump on a horse, a bass line rolls in. If the player is in
a shootout, the music intensifies. The music helps reinforce the player s connection with the historic
west by creating familiar sounds associated with the Western era.
Before I mention the problem spaces of the game, I would like to continue back to explaining

Summary Of Seven Years In Tibet
Ann Braun RS 390 Movie Review ( Seven Years in Tibet) November 20, 2017 For this student of
Buddhism, the movie Seven Years in Tibet was a historically correct, religiously sound, and moving
depiction of the beauty and power of this eastern non monotheistic faith. Furthermore, the grand
biography of the Austrian climber Heinrich Harrier, not only illustrated the supernatural aspects of the
faith, but also its folkloric magic. Additionally, it tackled the political struggles, both externally and
parochially, that embroiled the country in the aftermath of World War II. Moreover, so poignant were
these struggles that the Chinese government banned both the lead actor and the producer from ever
visiting China. Lastly, the main theme of the movie, was one of purification and redemption in the tale
of how an egotistical mountain climber evolved when exposed to this compassionate and generous
culture. Jean Jacque Annaud sets most of this epic film in the pilgrimage city of Lhasa, were the
young Dalai Lama resides( Strong 264). Here the story illustrates the many oddities of Tibetan
Buddhism such as the magic rituals that are both part of both Buddhism and earlier folk beliefs. For
instance, the Tibetans are most afraid of foreigners, and the movie shows the people using Tantras (

Ethics Of Care And Relativism
Ethical System Reflection Everyone has their own system for determining what is right and wrong
based on certain principles. This can be categorized as an ethical system, which is defined as a
structured set of principles that defines what is moral (Pollock, 2015). Ethical systems have a variety
of characteristics, which create a blue print to how individuals make critical decisions. The two ethical
systems I relate to are, ethics of care and relativism. Ethics of care is an ethical system which focuses
on preserving and enriching relationships while also meeting the needs of others (Pollock, 2015).
While relativism is an ethical system explains how what is deemed right and wrong changes based on
an individual or groups belief (Pollock, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Applying Ethics of Care An example for ethics of care within the justice system is the concept of
restorative justice. Restorative justice highlights mending the relationships between an offender and
the victim; additionally, it brings the victim and offender together throughout this process (Alberta
Government, n.d.). Restorative justice supports ethics of care, as it focuses on the interpersonal
relationships versus a punitive approach, which is a key characteristic to this system. Moreover, the
offender, victim, and family members are involved in this process, supporting that all parties needs are
considered. A personal example for ethics of care was when I was working at Park Place Mall where
there was an individual who was extremely emotionally distraught. This individual was exhibiting
behaviours, which are consistent with someone who was going to steal something, and was acting out
towards the staff members in that store. I walked up to this individual and began to talk to this person
building rapport. After some time, this individual wanted me to pay for their clothing items because
they were embarrassed by the situation. I paid for the items, and met them outside the mall, where this
individual started explaining how they wanted to commit suicide. Due to these triggers, I stayed with
the individual ensuring their safety, while also listening to their story. Once I was confident this
individual would not commit suicide, I

The Truth about Marie Antoinette
Marie Antoinette was born on November 2, 1755, in Vienna, Austria. Marie Antoinette was a queen
that ruled with a powerful, wealthy, fist. She was a foreign wife and queen once she married King
Louis XVI of France. Throughout her rule over France, Marie Antoinette was kept under a light of
ignorance by the people, and therefore, should not be blamed for their suffering, the French
Revolution, and the failures of her husband. She was hated by the people of France the moment she
became queen, which ultimately led her to her downfall. Queen Marie Antoinette is known for her
infamous quote let them eat cake , in a scandal where she supposedly turned a blind eye to the
famished. The people of France pointed their fingers at Marie Antoinette, and believed she frankly
participated in the scandal they accused her of: the scandal that led to her death by guillotine: the
Affair of the Diamond Necklace. Marie Antoinette was also blamed for The French Revolution and
the suffering of the poor people, but the citizens of France were already poor long before she became
queen. The French Revolution was a time of political and social disruption, and the change of their
absolute monarchy. Marie Antoinette was part of the monarchy, so she was disliked, but she was not
the cause of The French Revolution. Her husband, King Louis XVI, made known

Allivium Analysis
The script ALLUVIUM is a character driven story. It presents with a very unique and refreshing voice.
It s a dramatic thriller that subtly delivers an eerie and un nerving plot. The tone is alluring. The script
is completely unpredictable and it offers several twists and turns.
The script also offers complex and disturbing characters. These are characters that can attract talent
given the complexity of the roles.
However, ALLUVIUM is actually one of those scripts where you are never sure exactly what s going
on, and you are never sure of the direction of the plot. At times this can be very unsettling and
frustrating. In fact, at the end, some audiences may not even understand the true story, as it could be
up to interpretation. The story ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
He s a great role for an actor to play. It s subtle, yet so depraved.
The only concern is that, as mentioned, he does go missing for periods of time in the script and he
doesn t feel as if he drives it, although behind the scenes, he s driving everyone.
One doesn t really root for Taelon, because one isn t aware of what they are rooting for. However,
there are telling moments. When he turns the tables on Marsh regarding the authenticity of the
artwork, the audience cheers for Taelon, not fully understanding the scope of his depravity.
At the end one gets the sense that Taelon realizes how his obsession has caused horror for those all
around him, but it s not clear if he cares or not, but that s okay. It s a chilling and un nerving ending.
Most of the supporting characters are all well sculptured and crafted. Marsh is the greedy, self
centered artist. Maxie is the corrupt and immoral politician with a sensitive secret. One has seen this
type of character before, but he s pushed to the edge. However, there s a little bit too much of him and
this is an area to

Implications Of Class As A Class By Resnick And Marx
Class is a complex term and has been used in many aspects in social theory. The Oxford dictionary
define class as a system of ordering society whereby people are divided into sets based on perceived
social or economic status (OD, 2017). Marx studied class processes in a unique way which is through
the production, distribution and appropriation of surplus labour. Feminism and Marxism both being
conflict theories focus on how class is related to exploitation. This paper will discuss how the
household is a site where class processes take place by using Resnick and Wolff s New departures in
Marxian theory as a base.
Resnick and Wolff characterize class processes into two sorts; these are the fundamental and
subsumed class processes. Fundamental class processes include the appropriators and producers of
surplus labour. There are two divisions in the fundamental class processes which contain the producers
and the appropriators. Subsumed class processes, allude to the dissemination of surplus labour from its
appropriators to other individuals in the society. There are two divisions in subsumed classes the
distributors and the recipients of surplus labour. The subsumed class offers the means of existence for
production and appropriation process. Resnick and Wolff specify that individuals can be involved in
different or no class processes in the society at a specified time (Resnick Wolff, 2006).
Just like Resnick and Wolff consider class a set of processes they consider gender to be a set of
processes which are usually cultural or ideological in nature. They mention that class and gender
struggles are fought not just in the public but also in the private sphere as well, that is the household. A
person s life is shaped by multiple processes two of which are his/her class and gender processes.
Women are usually exploited in households and this exploitation has a lot to do with their gender.
Exploitation takes place when a producer or appropriator is unable to make decisions about the surplus
he/she produces. Women are often pressured into working inside the house due to patriarchy and
societal norms. They are made to focus more on household tasks. Working inside the household and
looking after children and

Personal Statement On The American Cancer Society
. Jettowyne, (The Compassionate Friends, 2011, November 4), stated, Friends don t want to say your
child s name, because they think it will make you feel bad . Being open and asking or commenting on
the child is essential in the healing process and showing support.
Other important ways to comfort a friend is by acknowledging the child s death. Crying with the
parent(s). Being available for additional childcare or rides to the funeral home. It is also important to
respect each parent s grief process.
The American Cancer Society (2015) reports some key ways to assist a friend when they are grieving:
Acknowledge the situation. Example: I heard that your_____ died. Use the word died That will show
that you are more open to talk about how the person really feels.
Express your concern. Example: I m sorry to hear that this happened to you.
Be genuine in your communication and don t hide your feelings. Example: I m not sure what to say,
but I want you to know I care.
Offer your support. Example: Tell me what I can do for you.
Ask how he or she feels, and don t assume you know how the bereaved person feels on any given day.
Being a good listener and being there is very comforting to a person in grief. Giving reassurance and
showing empathy are also key in helping a friend in need. This may be done by going on errands for
them, offering to do housework, shopping or bringing over food dishes. In addition, it is important to
remember that grieving parents may

Violence And Crime In America
Turning on the news when you get home, and if it s not the weather or traffic on, there is a strong
chance, it s a news report about another crime committed in America. Violence and crime are way too
common in today s society. In my opinion, I believe gun control, mental disorders, and how we are
brought up are just some of the reasons we have so much violence and crime. Guns. They seem to be
such a controversy. I feel they are so easy to acquire, that is as long as you have a good background.
But even if you cannot get one, the internet is at our fingertips, one can easily search how to build one
and put it together. Every murderer also had a clear background at once. They could be stocking up
with guns, and one day go out and commit so

Hiding The Truth In To Kill A Mockingbird
In the book To Kill a Mockingbird, there are 3 main characters. Those characters are Jem, Scout, and
their father Atticus. In the town of Maycomb which they live in people are very opinionated and they
have certain unwritten rules of society. Atticus is well liked and not well liked in that town. This is
because he defends an Of colored man and tries to get a white man in trouble. Although it can be
argued that hiding the truth is never justified, harper lee believes that hiding the truth is acceptable
when it s protecting somebody from getting in trouble and helping the public. Harper lee stresses that
hiding the truth is justified when you re protecting or helping the public. After the trial, many people
are furious that Atticus was standing up for a black man. Bob Ewell was very mad that Atticus was
trying to blame him for the terrible incident that happened to Mayella. He rebels in a way that isn t
very great. Bob Ewell goes after Jem and Scout and tries to kill them. When he is trying to wrestle the

The Innocence Of Lust In Rolando Perez s Office At Night
In the animal kingdom, reproduction of one s species holds priority for the survival of that genus.
Many animals will forgo its necessities for life such as food and water to ensure reproduction.
Mammals such as primates and canines have a hierarchy of how they choose their mate. These
animals choice there mate by choosing the most dominant and the one desirable features. Only a few
primate out of the whole species are completely monogamous, and humans are not consider one of
them. In the case of people were take vowel to one another to stay faithful and to contain are urges

You shall not covet your neighbor s wife (Bible). Even though we have vowel and rules not to lust

sexually charged interlude between the two characters. Starts out innocently with the author telling us
that the man and women stayed late at work. Then he gives us a lust filled rant about the women attire
and the man s long awaited desire to be alone with her. The man goes on about how she volunteered to
stay late and that he would have never have asked her. He is giving us the idea that he was hiding his
true yearning for her possible showing his sense of dignity that he uses to subdue his primal urges.
The author talks about the man having to open a window because This office at night is a bit stuffy ,
but is the man being warm this an indication of an autonomic response created by his anticipation and

The Economic Crisis And The Arms Race
The economic crisis and the Arms Race were the major reasons of the collapse of the Soviet Union
and the fall had a big impact on today s politics. The Soviet Union was formed in 1922. It consisted of
15 Soviet Republics (Armenia, Azerbaijan, Belorussia, Estonia, Georgia, Kazakhstan, Kirgizia, Latvia,
Lithuania, Moldavia, Russia, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan, Ukraine and Uzbekistan). The main ideologies
were communism and Socialism. One of the most prominent leaders of the Union was Joseph Stalin.
The Soviet Union was one of the leading empires in the world at that period of time. The Communism
is the ideology that replaces private property with public ownership and individual needs are replaced
by collective one. It is the advanced form of Socialism. In the 1970 s and 1980 s The Soviet Union
was very stable. It seemingly was strong politically and was acquiring even greater power and
influence. But in reality there were many economic problems for the Soviet Empire. The central pillar
of Soviet Economy was central planning and subsequent lack of individual creativity, lack of
incentives for increased productivity. According to Soviet worker, the government pretended that they
paid people and people pretended that they worked. The system was based on lies, it seemingly was
successful but in reality it was failing. The Soviet Union had other, more important problems which
led to the economic crisis. 70% of the industrial output of the Soviet Union was

The Causes And Effects Of The Black Death By Boccaccio
The Decameron is a frame narrative written by Boccaccio. He is writing about the Plague he witnesses
in the city of Florence. The Plague is called the Black Death which kills thirty percent of Europe s
population. This story explains how serious this disease is because it shows how men and women fled
from Florence to a countryside to prevent from catching it. The disease is carried by flees,
unfortunately, there were rats on the ships heading to Europe, the flees would bite the rats and then the
flees bite the humans who eventually contracted this disease. These people are not aware of this in this
time period and have several different assumptions on what is really causing this outbreak. The
uninfected talk about what the Black Death is, the causes of the disease, how contagious this plague is,
and the effects it has on their society and their responses to the plague.
In the middle ages people had no idea about how any disease such as the Black Death could spread.
The Europeans think it disseminated by the influence of the celestial bodies, or sent upon them by
God in his just wrath (Boccaccio). In other words, they think the plague came from the sky or sent by
God. They think maybe it is God s way of cleansing the earth or punishing them for their unfair
behaviors. Some think that a supernatural origin caused the disease. This disease is a bacterium
infection which has a variety of symptoms, such as, nose bleeding, tumors in the groin or armpits and
black spots or

NOVICE TO EXPERT NURSE LEADER

The path to nursing leadership most often progresses from novice to expert nurse and then onto a
novice nurse manager. The novice nurse manager is asked to lead and rarely given the tools or
knowledge to be successful in this new role. The Dreyfus Model of Skill Acquisition discussed by
Patricia Benner includes the following five levels of competency in the clinical nurse (Benner, 1982):
* Level I NOVICE beginners with no experience with practice situations and an inability to use

  • 2. Critical Analysis Of Edward Scissorhands Edward Scissorhands, directed by Tim Burton in 1990, features Burton s distinctive style, themes and story elements. Moreover, it is influenced stylistically by the German Expressionism; distortion of objects and bodies, such as the trimmed hedges, Gothic elements, for instance Edward s castle or his clothes, and the music played throughout the film, curves and crooked lines in the pathway of the neighbourhood, and the Chiaroscuro lighting (low key lightning) in most of the scenes. Peg Boggs (Dianne Wiest), a local Avon door to door saleswoman tries to sell her products around her neighbourhood, until she arrives to the old, abandoned Gothic mansion in the outskirts of Spring Hopes. There, she discovers Edward (Johnny Depp), a bizarre creation resulting from an unfinished experiment by a mad scientist, who died just ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... One of the most relevant arguments for claiming that the film is good enough to recommend it is that the film has authorship personality; that is, throughout the movie audience may realise that there are lots of Burton s characteristic features: such as the visual style, contrasting the pastel colours (blue, green, orange, and pink) in the houses of Spring Hopes, with the Gothic ones (mainly black) in Edward s clothes and castle. It seems Edward is brought to the neighbourhood to show that there is another valid lifestyle; the otherness has to be accepted even though it seems to be too bizarre at first. Furthermore, the exploration of the otherness and the characters, such as Edward, who exist outside the boundaries of normality is a topic that is highly relevant, because it may show the audience that no matter how different a thing is, all that it is important is that is good enough for you. Edward Scissorhands, summing up, is a good film because it has an interior meaning, that is, it makes the audience think outside the box, and extract a useful moral from the ... Iphone Report Principles of Marketing Report on the UK marketing environment for the iPhone Executive Summary This report will analyze and discuss the most important elements of the marketing environment for the launch of the iPhone, that is to say the main three levels of the marketing environment: the micro environment through the customers, competitors and distributors, the macro environment through technological, economical, social, political and environmental forces and finally the internal environment through the relation of Apple with its employees and its marketing philosophy. The analysis for the micro environment is based on Porter s 5 forces model and the one on the macro environment is based on PEST analysis. The report ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Apple has already sold more than 39 million iPods in 2006, thus the company can count on its existing customers for the iPhone. The other potential customers for this product can also be: the people interested by technology or technophobes, middle and high class segments who are willing to pay more for a better user experience, professionals in media and design and finally young people who are interested by the image reflected by the product. Competitors With the iPhone, unlike the iPod, Apple is not creating a new market it is muscling the mobile market (BBC). In fact in the UK, more than 80% of the households have already a mobile phone; however the mobile market is changing so the customers are not only buying a mobile phone for its functionality but also for the other features that it can provide such as the design for example. Since, there is an established market; there will be two main types of competition: one against the distributor and another one against the product. The competition against the distributor is particularly important in this case as there is only one company distributing it in the UK: O2. One of the rapid reactions to the launch of the iPhone; is by Vodafone who has created a service called Music Station to be launched for Christmas and which will give unlimited access to its customers to more than 1 million music tracks. Concerning the competition against the iPhone itself, there are already mobile phones in the market that provide ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. The Bill Of Rights And The Constitution Before dealing with individual amendments I would like to deal with the entire Bill of Rights and the constitution itself. The framers of the Constitution were wary of ceding too much power to the federal government. They rightly believed many local citizens would never make it to the capital but would interact with local government, so the power should be kept at the most local level possible. It was impossible to foresee in 1791 a world with video conferencing, 24 hr news and the ability to fly around the world within 36 hours. Because of the world we live in, I believe it is more necessary to make the Constitution and the Bill of Rights the foundational laws of the land. In 1833, the Supreme Court ruled in Barron v. Baltimore that the Bill of rights was written out of fear by the Antifederalist to constrain the federal government. We have given the individual States the power to make laws that conflict and contradict with Federal law, the laws of other states and national norms. It is these contradictions that allowed the Jim Crow laws and the doctrine of Separate but Equal to flourish in the aftermath of the Civil War. I believe that the law should be formulated at the highest level and filter down to the lowest. Make the Constitution and the Bill of Rights the total law of the land and no other law in any state may contradict them to ensure the beginnings of equality among all citizens. The First Amendment states, Congress shall make no law respecting an ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 5. My Neighbour Totoro Essay My Neighbor Totoro makes us question if it s necessary to have an enemy or major conflict in order to make a great movie. Although some might have found this film strange due to simplicity and anti climactic plot I believe that is what helped it become so popular around the world. The film My Neighbor Totoro was one that was focused on the adventures that Satsuki and Mei took as they moved into a new home in order to be closer to their mother due to her being ill. My Neighbor Totoro has become one of the beloved of all family films (Ebert) the positive message that this film gives substitutes for not having that enemy or conflict other movies are so concentrated on. The Wizard of Oz has Dorothy, who needs to find her way back home In order to be safe and Finding Nemo has Nemo, who has to go through extreme measures in order to be back with his father, both examples of popular movies that used an enemy or bad situation in order to help create an exciting movie. This was defined by Bandura as Belief s in one s capabilities to organize and execute the courses of action required to produce given attainments. The model of self efficacy was reinvented via Bandura (1997) in order to incorporate elements that are individually specific that directly influences a person s level of self efficacy. One of the most important factors to determining an individual s self efficacy was that of mastery experience coupled with the person s perception of those prior accomplishments. Imaginable experiences within more recent years has started to appear more and more as another important factor to pre determining athlete s self efficacy. Therefore this case study will look into both of these areas in terms of Tyson Fury s latest bout against Wladimir Klitschko. Martin, and Hall (1995), showed individuals in the imagery conditions spent significantly more time practicing the technique. McKenzie, and Howe (1997) also studied the effects of imagery within a task of dart throwing, and concluded that imagery could aid the performance in such a task. Interestingly though, individuals who had prior experience within the area, elicited a belief in the performance enhancement of imagery. However, Cumming, and Hall (2002) showed that athletes of different levels (National, Provincial, Recreational) show different belief s on imagery suggesting an engagement with the ... She is immobile and unable to perform basic tasks on her own. Due to her condition, she is having trouble eating and in order to help, the doctor believes that a feeding tube (PEG tube) should be surgically inserted. When told about the treatment, the patient refuses surgery. She is deemed competent and understands her situation. In this situation, I propose that the care team should respect the wishes of the patient and let her die. It is clearly stated that the patient is autonomous and aware of the potential risks of refusing treatment. She is willing to accept the fact that if she does not receive the feeding tube, she will die of malnutrition. In addition, she is not consenting to the surgery and they cannot legally force her to accept treatment to have the PEG tube inserted. The conditions for consent include competence, understanding and appreciation of information, and voluntariness free from coercion, and undue influence (Young, Ch. 44). She has fulfilled the requirements for competence because the care team acknowledges that the patient recognizes that there is a decision that needs to be made, clearly understands the information and treatment options, and the risks involved with each decision (Orr, CBHD). We would now have a definite identification with the most powerful country in the world, and the golden eagle would be stamped on the cover of our passport. Henceforth, we would cherish it as our magic shield: we could travel anywhere, no matter how far or exotic our destination; we had the inalienable right to political asylum at the local American Embassy; and the American ambassador would be our civil servant. Second, a Puerto Rican historian, Arturo Morales Carrión, explained that American citizenship was not in any way accompanied by full political rights or self determination. After interest peaked between 1860 and 1930, it was forgotten, because psychology and neurology were premature sciences. Psychological theory was full with associations, and concepts of nervous tissue were insignificant. Subjective experience, such as synesthesia, was believed not a proper subject for scientific study.(pg3) Synesthesia s history is interesting but also important if we are to understand its neurological basis, because the word was used to describe diverse phenomena in different eras. There is an important clue in his famous dictum, stop thinking! that relates to one of synesthesia s implications in reversing the roles of reason and emotion. (Kandinsky s 1910 adjuration was, lend your ears to music, open your eyes to painting, and . . . stop thinking! Just ask yourself whether the work has enabled you to walk about into a hitherto unknown world. If the answer is yes, what more do you want? ) People were intrigued with the notion that synesthesia seemed to have a direct link to the unconscious. With time, however, attention turned to objective behavior that could be quantified or measured by machines. Humans became subjects, the individual was abandoned, and the mind temporarily became a black box. Mechanistic explanations have been plentiful throughout synesthesia s history. I recognize this poem as a song written by Harry McClintock in 1928. The song is one of the few that can still make sense in today s culture and society and in my opinion is the mark of a truly great writer. The speaker of the poem is a hobo that was hiking on the trails. Given that the poem was written in 1928, during the Great Depression, he sounds wistful and hopeful of the mystical Big Rock Candy Mountains. He is talking to some folks he happened to pass by on his way down the track. The speaker ultimately sounds like someone who is down on their luck and only has hope left. According to a New York Times online article, Rockstar spent between 80 100 million dollars on developing the game (Schiesel 2010). I mention this statistic because this comes to show the new era of devotion Rockstar brought to video game production. In any video game, soundtracks can be an incredible boost in its overall character. The soundtracks in Red Dead Redemption are authentic; it gives the game historical flavour. What I mean by this is you truly get a feeling of the Western experience. Rockstar brought on composers Woody Jackson and Bill Elm. In a behind the scenes video, the composers explain that it is essential for them to find a balance, paying homage to what was there but also trying to add our stamp to the music (GamerSpawn, 2010). Another interesting fact they mentioned was the ability for the game to launch certain lines of music to start based on your actions. For example, if you jump on a horse, a bass line rolls in. If the player is in a shootout, the music intensifies. The music helps reinforce the player s connection with the historic west by creating familiar sounds associated with the Western era. • 20. Summary Of Seven Years In Tibet Ann Braun RS 390 Movie Review ( Seven Years in Tibet) November 20, 2017 For this student of Buddhism, the movie Seven Years in Tibet was a historically correct, religiously sound, and moving depiction of the beauty and power of this eastern non monotheistic faith. Furthermore, the grand biography of the Austrian climber Heinrich Harrier, not only illustrated the supernatural aspects of the faith, but also its folkloric magic. Additionally, it tackled the political struggles, both externally and parochially, that embroiled the country in the aftermath of World War II. Moreover, so poignant were these struggles that the Chinese government banned both the lead actor and the producer from ever visiting China. Lastly, the main theme of the movie, was one of purification and redemption in the tale of how an egotistical mountain climber evolved when exposed to this compassionate and generous culture. Jean Jacque Annaud sets most of this epic film in the pilgrimage city of Lhasa, were the young Dalai Lama resides( Strong 264). Here the story illustrates the many oddities of Tibetan Buddhism such as the magic rituals that are both part of both Buddhism and earlier folk beliefs. For instance, the Tibetans are most afraid of foreigners, and the movie shows the people using Tantras ( magic), and making hand gestures or mudras to drive away evil (Robinson 123 124). • 22. Ethics Of Care And Relativism Ethical System Reflection Everyone has their own system for determining what is right and wrong based on certain principles. This can be categorized as an ethical system, which is defined as a structured set of principles that defines what is moral (Pollock, 2015). Ethical systems have a variety of characteristics, which create a blue print to how individuals make critical decisions. The two ethical systems I relate to are, ethics of care and relativism. Ethics of care is an ethical system which focuses on preserving and enriching relationships while also meeting the needs of others (Pollock, 2015). While relativism is an ethical system explains how what is deemed right and wrong changes based on an individual or groups belief (Pollock, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Applying Ethics of Care An example for ethics of care within the justice system is the concept of restorative justice. Restorative justice highlights mending the relationships between an offender and the victim; additionally, it brings the victim and offender together throughout this process (Alberta Government, n.d.). Restorative justice supports ethics of care, as it focuses on the interpersonal relationships versus a punitive approach, which is a key characteristic to this system. Moreover, the offender, victim, and family members are involved in this process, supporting that all parties needs are considered. A personal example for ethics of care was when I was working at Park Place Mall where there was an individual who was extremely emotionally distraught. This individual was exhibiting behaviours, which are consistent with someone who was going to steal something, and was acting out towards the staff members in that store. I walked up to this individual and began to talk to this person building rapport. After some time, this individual wanted me to pay for their clothing items because they were embarrassed by the situation. I paid for the items, and met them outside the mall, where this individual started explaining how they wanted to commit suicide. Due to these triggers, I stayed with the individual ensuring their safety, while also listening to their story. Once I was confident this individual would not commit suicide, I ... The Truth About Marie Antoinette Sombillo 1 Alysia Sombillo World History Mrs. Ray World History Research Paper Draft 3 3 16 The Truth about Marie Antoinette Marie Antoinette was born on November 2, 1755, in Vienna, Austria. Marie Antoinette was a queen that ruled with a powerful, wealthy, fist. She was a foreign wife and queen once she married King Louis XVI of France. Throughout her rule over France, Marie Antoinette was kept under a light of ignorance by the people, and therefore, should not be blamed for their suffering, the French Revolution, and the failures of her husband. She was hated by the people of France the moment she became queen, which ultimately led her to her downfall. Queen Marie Antoinette is known for her infamous quote let them eat cake , in a scandal where she supposedly turned a blind eye to the famished. The people of France pointed their fingers at Marie Antoinette, and believed she frankly participated in the scandal they accused her of: the scandal that led to her death by guillotine: the Affair of the Diamond Necklace. Marie Antoinette was also blamed for The French Revolution and the suffering of the poor people, but the citizens of France were already poor long before she became queen. The French Revolution was a time of political and social disruption, and the change of their absolute monarchy. Marie Antoinette was part of the monarchy, so she was disliked, but she was not the cause of The French Revolution. Her husband, King Louis XVI, made known ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

It s a dramatic thriller that subtly delivers an eerie and un nerving plot. The tone is alluring. The script is completely unpredictable and it offers several twists and turns. The script also offers complex and disturbing characters. These are characters that can attract talent given the complexity of the roles. However, ALLUVIUM is actually one of those scripts where you are never sure exactly what s going on, and you are never sure of the direction of the plot. • 25. Implications Of Class As A Class By Resnick And Marx Class is a complex term and has been used in many aspects in social theory. The Oxford dictionary define class as a system of ordering society whereby people are divided into sets based on perceived social or economic status (OD, 2017). Marx studied class processes in a unique way which is through the production, distribution and appropriation of surplus labour. Feminism and Marxism both being conflict theories focus on how class is related to exploitation. This paper will discuss how the household is a site where class processes take place by using Resnick and Wolff s New departures in Marxian theory as a base. Resnick and Wolff characterize class processes into two sorts; these are the fundamental and subsumed class processes. Fundamental class processes include the appropriators and producers of surplus labour. There are two divisions in the fundamental class processes which contain the producers and the appropriators. Subsumed class processes, allude to the dissemination of surplus labour from its appropriators to other individuals in the society. There are two divisions in subsumed classes the distributors and the recipients of surplus labour. The subsumed class offers the means of existence for production and appropriation process. Resnick and Wolff specify that individuals can be involved in different or no class processes in the society at a specified time (Resnick Wolff, 2006). Just like Resnick and Wolff consider class a set of processes they consider gender to be a set of processes which are usually cultural or ideological in nature. They mention that class and gender struggles are fought not just in the public but also in the private sphere as well, that is the household. A person s life is shaped by multiple processes two of which are his/her class and gender processes. Women are usually exploited in households and this exploitation has a lot to do with their gender. Exploitation takes place when a producer or appropriator is unable to make decisions about the surplus he/she produces. Women are often pressured into working inside the house due to patriarchy and societal norms. They are made to focus more on household tasks. The Plague is called the Black Death which kills thirty percent of Europe s population. This story explains how serious this disease is because it shows how men and women fled from Florence to a countryside to prevent from catching it. The disease is carried by flees, unfortunately, there were rats on the ships heading to Europe, the flees would bite the rats and then the flees bite the humans who eventually contracted this disease. These people are not aware of this in this time period and have several different assumptions on what is really causing this outbreak. The uninfected talk about what the Black Death is, the causes of the disease, how contagious this plague is, and the effects it has on their society and their responses to the plague. In the middle ages people had no idea about how any disease such as the Black Death could spread. The Europeans think it disseminated by the influence of the celestial bodies, or sent upon them by God in his just wrath (Boccaccio). In other words, they think the plague came from the sky or sent by God. They think maybe it is God s way of cleansing the earth or punishing them for their unfair behaviors.
