Greece was a poor country at that time; destroyed, full of tubercular, and with zero animals, livestock

Communists threatened it. The army was tiny and unequipped, thus was unable to protect its country
from foreigners who foisted their totalitarian regime on them. Truman believed that only the US could
help Greece in their long term recovery. He said, The United States must supply this assistance...there

should fall under the control of an armed minority, the effect upon its neighbor, Turkey, would be
immediate and serious. Confusion and disorder might well spread throughout the entire Middle East. (

Turkey would as well, and it would spread across the Middle East. By the end of WWII, Soviets
pressured Turkey into allowing Russian shipping to go through the Turkish Straits. Turkish
government turned down their request, and Soviets exerted naval force. The US took Turkey under
their wing and supplied the country with any possible aid including military and economic. This might
seem like US was showing signs of authority and this exchange between USSR and US was obvious.
Americans came there to save Greece and Turkey from Soviets. A war was slowly developing. But
