Examining the Existing Role of the Emergency Medical...
Introduction
Health care is rapidly transforming to meet the demands of rising health care cost; aging Baby
boomers; and the shift from acute care settings to the community and primary care centers.
However, with the threat of the nursing shortage health care providers are positioning themselves to
develop innovative ways to meet the demand for health care. The Center for Medicare and
Medicaid Services (CMS) is offering billions of dollars in innovative grants to health care
providers to find projects that test healthcare payment and delivery health care models to meet
the goal of the Triple Aim; lowered cost, improved patient experience, and improved outcomes. (
CMS .org) One of the latest initiatives is the expansion of the role of the Emergency Medical
Service (EMS) provider to the new role of the Community Paramedic (CP). The purpose of this
paper is examine the existing role of the EMS provider, the evolution of Community Paramedic, the
overlapping roles and responsibilities the RN and the CP, and the regulatory framework needed to
support creation of the CP s to ensure patient safety.
Background
Existing Role
Historically, EMS has focused on providing emergency treatment for persons suffering acute
medical problems in community settings, while transporting such persons to a hospital emergency
department (ED), and when needed, in the ED until care is taken over by hospital staff. EMS
personnel also have been utilized to transport ill or injured persons between

The Beatles Early Influences Of The 1960 s
The Beatles are a legendary band that successfully unified the musical influences of the late 1950s
and 60s, and brought modernism to pop and rock music. The way they became as successful as
they are today is their early influences and what the time and effort they spent to make the band.
Also the men went through a lot of experimentation and growth to find what they wanted to focus
on, and do the most, in their life and career. The men eventually parted and made separate careers
causing them to be prosperous in different ways and influence the youth in different ways.

Later that year after he signed them they released their first song in Britain, Love Me Do . The
song was a combination of vocal harmonies and Lennon s very well played lead harmonica which
created an original sound that no one has heard before. They released other songs that year that
were equally original and caused them to be on Britain s television, which was the beginning of
their popularity.
The Beatles released three number one songs in 1963 called From Me to You , She Loves You ,
and I Want to Hold Your Hand . I Want to Hold Your Hand sold more than one million advance
copies and two albums. Because of their popularizing songs, they were all over steady radio. Media
drew attention to adoring fans that made a frenzy that became known as Beatlemania.
The song Please Please Me and their album Meet the Beatles was released in the U.S. in January
1964, and they had TV appearances on The Ed Sullivan Show in February. This caused
Beatlemania to cross the Atlantic. The week of April 4 the top five songs and 16 out of 100 songs
in the U.S. were by the Beatles. They were the first recording artist to make such an
accomplishment. After that their success grew and they starred in two motion pictures, A Hard Day

The MRP is utilized for manufacturing, inventorying, and shipping. This system and data is just as
important as the ERP. Both are critical software components to Riordan Manufacturing success.
After reviewing the existing hardware and software being utilized, I have concluded that Riordan
Manufacturing must make changes to some hardware, software, and procedures affecting IT to be
able to meet it s current goals and expectation. To be able to do this, Riordan Manufacturing must
upgrade outdated equipment, upgrade unsupported operating systems and applications, and
consolidate databases and increase productivity. Some of the hardware that exists at Albany and
Pontiac sites needs upgrades to increase the productivity of the plants. The Albany site can change
its structure to mirror the Headquarter with a 100 base T Ethernet with switches and reduce the
amount of hardware and connections. The Pontiac site needs to upgrade to CAT 5 cabling to
reduce data transmission degradation. Next, replace the hubs, patch panels with switches, and run a
100 base T Ethernet. Furthermore, both sites need to upgrade to a full T 1 connection to support
the data transmission speed to headquarters. Software at both the Albany and Pontiac sites need to
be upgraded due to compatibility issues with other sites and the fact that the software is no longer
supported by the vendor. Both sites use WIN NT for the operating systems for their network and

Essay on Midaq Alley
The theme of Midaq Alley cuts to the heart of Arab society. Namely, it shows how a group of
characters living in the same slum neighborhood responds to the combined promise and threat of
Western influenced modernization. Midaq Alley is about the Egyptian residents of a hustling,
packed back alley in Cairoin the 1940 s. The attempts of several residents to escape the alley and
move up in status end with dreams broken and unfulfilled. The opening sentences of Midaq Alley
points to a world bypassed by history: Many things combine to show that Midaq Alley is one of
the gems of times gone by and that it once shone forth like a flashing star in the history of Cairo.

(Beattie 190) Even though he has been reciting poems for the last twenty years, his time has
come and history has passed him by.Of all the people in the neighborhood who are yearning for
an escape from tradition and the poverty that seems to be its permanent handmaiden, none stands
out more than the young and beautiful Hamida who is the novel s central character. Living with
her adoptive mother, the matchmaker Umm Hamida, she sneers at the prospective husbands
who would be the ostensible pathway toward a more prosperous future. They are all nonentities.
The young Hamida envies women who have broken free of traditional bonds, especially the
Jewish factory girls. She tells her mother, If you had seen the factory girls! You should just see
those Jewish girls who go to work. They all go about in nice clothes. Well, what is the point of
life then if we can t wear what we want? (Mahfouz 27) In the 1930 s Cairo faced a different kind
of Westernization. Italy and Germany invaded Egypt. They offered an alternative lifestyle with
more modern assets such as electricity and running water. (Lewis 348) Also Cairo had become
more diverse in terms of culture and in religion. In The 1927 census a fifth of the population
belonged to minorities. Jews, Greeks, Italians, British, and French where all in Cairo (Rodenbeck

Process Of Negotiation Essay
Negotiation is a fundamental process used in resolving conflicts, making business deals, and in
managing working relationships with others. Negotiations occur for two reasons: (1) to resolve a
problem or dispute between parties, or (2) to create something new that neither party could do on
its own. Negotiating is a critical, every day skill that is essential anytime it is necessary to create
short term or long lasting agreements. For example: In 1996, Juwan Howard signed a contract
worth over $100 million with the Miami Heatand nearly became the highest paid NBA player
during the 96 97 NBA season. However, his contract was voided by the NBA citing that the Heat
exceeded its salary cap. On August 5, 1996 Howard returned to the folds... Show more content on

He was successful and over the next two season earned respect and his keep. As the next year
approached, as a free agent, he was eligible to move and work to gain more respect and power
through the process of being a free agent. The Miami Heat and President Pat Riley were looking
to get a stab at getting him in Miami. Juwan s Agent David Falk s Job was to get the most for his
client in the end no matter where he played. The Bullets had first crack at offers, ranging in the
high 8 figures and actuals would change as the bidding continued, but the Bullets were not the
only ones looking to Howard. The Miami Heat was also interested and would come into the play
with their own offers to be considered by Howard. During these proceedings, Alonzo Mourning
and many others were working their own deals with the Heat as well as the Bullets. During this
time Pat Riley indicated to Mourning that he would eventually be the highest player in Miami. This
statement would result in a complete unraveling of the most promised line up of players for this
NBA team and a potential of huge success.
As the bidding war continued, Juwan Howard would eventually sign on with the Heat for over

Allen Ginsberg Influences
Allen Ginsberg was one of the 20th century s most influential poets. He was viewed as one of the
founding fathers of the Beat Movement. He is also known for his works like Howl. Allen
Ginsberg, born Irwin Allen Ginsberg, was born on June 3, 1926 in Newark, New Jersey. His
mother and father was Naomi and Louis Ginsberg. His parents were members of the Jewish
New York literary counterculture of the 1920s. During this time, Ginsberg was raised in the
midst of a number of progressive political perspectives that would later influence how he viewed
life as a whole and also influence his work. Ginsberg s mother was a supporter of the Communist
party. With that, she was a nudist. Her mental health was a major issue all throughout Ginsberg s
childhood. Because of this, Ginsberg witnessed his mother s insanity first hand while growing up
causing it to have a major impact on his own views. Ginsberg also developed a certain sense of
connection with people dealing with such issues and was able to tolerate it at such a level. In his
adolescent years, Ginsberg greatly favored Walt Whitman. Because Ginsberg wanted to live out a
childhood dream of getting in Columbia University like his childhood idol, Whitman, he made it a

attraction to men. As a student at Columbia in the 1940s, he began close friendships with his
colleagues William S. Burroughs, Neal Cassady, and Jack Kerouac. These men would later
become the leading figures that started the Beat movement. This group of men helped sculpt
Ginsberg s perspective on life. Ginsberg called it a New Vision. He compared it to art and how art
should be the raw cut form of how an individual feels, and individual expression, that requires one
to reach into the deepest and most inner parts of the human mind to create such a masterpiece that it

Protecting Floodplains by Aaron Dante Mamiit
Protecting Floodplains by Aaron Dante Mamiit
Flooding is a constant issue faced by Metro Manila. Although there are times when flooding is
merely an inconvenient and annoying event, there are also times when it develops into something
much more frightening and dangerous.
But why is Metro Manila so badly plagued by floods anyway?
One of the reasons why Metro Manila constantly battles with the flood problem is because a large
part of it is situated on a floodplain.
What are floodplains?
Floodplains are landscapes that are formed when running water, often in streams and rivers,
transports eroded rock and other similar materials from their banks to a lower part of the Earth s
surface. At these lower parts, the flow of water slows down, and the rock and materials that the
water is carrying are dropped.
This leads to the creation of deposital landforms. One of these landforms is the floodplain.
Floodplains are nearly flat, hence the plains part of their name. The flood part, on the other hand,
should be pretty obvious these floodplains are subject to periodic flooding.
What happens on floodplains?
Flooding occurs when water overflows from a stream or river. When the water levels become too
high, the water flows out of the stream channel and over the stream banks, submerging the adjacent
floodplain.
As water overflows, the material it carries sediments such as sand, gravel, clay, and silt are
deposited on the floodplain.
The larger particles are deposited first, closer

Gun Control vs. Crime Rate

Gun Control vs. Crime Rate According to the Second Amendment of the Constitution of the United
States of America, A well regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free state, the
right of the people to keep and bear Arms shall not be infringed. In this very amendment lies the
main issue of gun control. To many, the language of the amendment appears to grant to the people
the absolute right to bear arms. However, the U.S. Supreme Court has held that the amendment
merely protects the right of states to form a state militia. (Kimberlin) Gun control, or the
controlling of firearms, is any act or proposal by any local, state, or federal agency to inhibit, deter,

The gunman then ran and took his own life (Benner, 2012). The latter side of the debate shows
how civilians are capable of stopping a crime before the police are able to arrive. Some even claim
that more guns will help to control the crime and prevent mass shootings from occurring. (Wicked)
After being subjected to so much information, how is the reader to know which side is right?
According to Wicked, This can be a difficult question to answer and requires detailed analysis to
come to an informed decision. Studies that have been done on the issue of gun control have found
many things that gun control affects and many things that it does not affect. One key item that
studies have found is that gun control laws affect the use of specific guns in violent crimes, but do
not affect the rate of crime itself. The controlling of firearms by either banning the sale, transfer,
importation, or manufacture of, as well as controlling the amount of ammunition available and the
storage of that ammunition, is irrelevant to the reduction of violent crime.
When debating the effect that a particular law, or ban of item, has on the rate of violent crime, it
is beneficial to look back at the effect that laws and bans similar to these have had on the crime
rate throughout history. The 1994 Assault Weapons ban which Dianne Feinstein proposed and that
of which Congress passed would be a prime example. This ban specifically selected fire arms

The Effects Of Plants
Plants, being sessile organisms cannot move to more favorable places to escape the adverse
effects of HM toxicity.Exposure of the plants to toxic levels of HM triggers a wide range of
physiological and biochemical process; and plants in order to cope with the negative impacts of
toxicity develop and/or adopt a series of strategies (Fig.1) (Hayat et al., 2012). The initial response
of the plants to various stresses, including HM accumulation in the soils involve perception of stress
stimuli, signal transduction and transmission of amplified signal (mitogen activated proteins viz;

genomic toxicity of HMs in plants severely affects the process of DNA replication and

chromosomal fragmentation, aberration and liquefaction as a result of Cd interference with
nucleic acids (Qin et al., 2015).Aslam et al., 2014 by using technique Random amplified

William Shakespeare s Globe Theatre Essay
Shakespeare s Globe Theatre
The Globe Theater, an entertainment outlet for all people of that time, provided a place for
Shakespeare s plays to be performed. It was the third and most famous playhouse in London. When
it was built, it was one of the most important playhouses in London. The Globe s architecture was
intriguing for its time and its life was long and prosperous.
The Globe was built by two brothers, Cuthbert and Richard Burbage. They had inherited the Globe
s predecessor, The Theatre, from their father, James Burbage (Williams 365). Fearing their lease
would run out, the brothers dismantled it and carried the materials to Bankside, where the Swan
and Rose already stood (Britanica). It was built ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Until 1600, no more than two companies had been licensed at any one time to perform daily
within the reach of London. Half the shares were kept by the Burbages, the rest going to the
Chamberlain s Men which Shakespeare was a member (Britanica). Each of the sixteen
shareholders of the globe made about 25 pounds (Williams 365). When James came to the throne
in 1603, he favored the Globe, bringing it success (Andrews 167). One night before a planned
revolt, The Chamberlain s company was asked to perform Richard II in order to instill mutinous
thoughts in the audience. (Westerhof)
The admission to the Globe was one shilling to the boxes. Lee stated that the general admission
was one penny, and a stool on the stage was sixpence. Posters, or bills, were placed throughout
London on rails and posts. John Northbrooke said in 1579, They used to set up their bills upon
posts some certain days before to admonish people to make resort to their theatres. The Globe was
thought to have gotten its name from the sign representing Hercules or Atlas carrying the globe
with the motto, All the World s a Stage. (Williams 365)
In 1613, the Globe burnt down accidentally during a performance of Henry VIII (Miller Schutz
21). It was set on fire by a cannon set off to mark the King s entrance onstage in a scene at
Cardinal Woshey s Palace. The entire theatre was destroyed in one hour (Britanica). It was rebuilt

The enlightenment was an era after the black death, crusades, and hundred years of war, a time
where the individual person and what one is able to do began to value more than the afterlife

being John Locke. He believed in the importance of government being built for the good of
people and that in order to build an society, government is needed, making him an important

Amateurism In College Football
Amateurism
Being a college football player, I am very well aware of the issue of to pay players or not to pay.
Obviously my situation is different, being a student here at the Naval academy, but the issue still
very much affects me. The reason players deserve compensation are painfully obvious. One,
Football is a very dangerous sport. Two, the full ride scholarships players are offered aren t exactly
what they appear to be. Three, colleges can easily afford it or enable it.
Football is dangerous , these are words heard all the time, and it s been an accepted fact for a
while now. Obviously while playing football you understand there s a risk of being injured you are
facing. People get hurt all the time, but these injuries usually do not have lasting effects.

The Environmental Hazards Of Oily Sludge
AUTONUMLGL INTRODUCTION
The nature of threats to the environment posed by oily wastewater containing hydrocarbons, has
led to it being recognized as hazardous waste. Literature has shown that hydrocarbons contribute to
the greenhouse effect and global warming, deplete the ozone, increase occurrences of cancer and
respiratory disorders, and reduce the photosynthetic ability of plants. In addition, such hazardous
waste is primarily generated at growing rates, by various industries which utilize petroleum
products as energy sources and raw materials. The effective remediation of oily sludge has become

It is worthwhile to examine the various definitions of oily sludge to recognize the multi layered
issue its clean up entails. It is also noteworthy that many definitions of systems engineering describe
what it does and not what it is. This is particularly prevalent in the earlier standards.
The definition that depicts what oily sludge is comprised is as follows: Oily sludge is one of the
most significant solid wastes generated in the petroleum industry. It is a complex emulsion of
various petroleum hydrocarbons (PHCs), water, heavy metals, and solid particles.

Normand and Betty Vinson rectify part of the problem with decreasing line costs by increasing
assets. The pair feels guilty about their transgression as well nervous over the impending deadline.
An additional problem emerges and the two reach out to CFO Scott Sullivan for further
instructions. He instructs Normand and Vinson to fix the remaining errors with using the company
s excess reserves. Sullivan mentions that the error can fix itself over time as long as everything
matched up with the expectations of auditors and Wall Street. The guilt between the two mid level
managers continues to grow, but Sullivan praises their work and loyalty to the company. In fear of
losing both their jobs and financial security, the pair complies with Sullivan s order despite their
better judgement (Alvarez 2013). After instructing Normand and Vinson to cut corners and make
the changes, Sullivan needs to fix the error before someone finds it. His first step is delay Cynthia
Cooper s internal audit by constantly asking her to wait a while. Even though

WHO IS RESPONSIBLE FOR GMOs?
It has been no secret that one of the biggest contributors to GMO crops is Monsanto. This is the
same company responsible for Saccharin, Aspartame, DDT, Agent Orange, Bovine Growth
Hormone and Glyphosate. In addition, they are also responsible for PCBs (polychlorinated
biphenyls that were used for coolant fluids for electrical transformers, capacitors, and electric
motors). This eventually led to Monsanto paying out over $600 million in 2003 to residents of
Anniston, Alabama, who experienced severe health problems, including liver disease, neurological
disorders and cancer after being exposed to PCBs.

Several of the companies that have been responsible for GMO crops and their negative effects on

Software Systems Requirements Engineering
This paper presents an overview of software systems requirements engineering (RE).The
requirement engineering is the process of eliciting individual stakeholder requirements and their
needs and evolving them in depth. And then granted requirements is documenting in a form that is
responsive to analysis and communication and specified that they can serve as the basis for all
other system development activities. This research paper provides a wide ranging and well
structured introduction to the fundamentals, principles, and techniques of requirements
engineering. In this paper they presents agreed techniques for eliciting, negotiating and
documenting as well as validating, and managing requirements for software intensive systems. The
various phases of the process and the techniques are demonstrated using numerous examples and
their work in industrial collaborations. Their presentation aims at professionals, students, and
lecturers in systems and software engineeringdevelopment. The Professionals people such as
software architects, project managers, and software engineers will profit in their daily work from
the well presented mixture of validated measures and industrial experience. Students and lecturers
will appreciate the complete description of sound fundamentals, principles, and techniques. It

Why OB GYN are at risk of lawsuit in USA Women s health specialists remains top in the medical

study carried out by Medscape indicate that in every 4000 primary care physicians, more than half
of them have found themselves in one or more malpractice cases in their career. The study further
shows that one third of the cases were either due to wrongful accusations or wrong diagnoses with
another one third due to injuries caused during treatment. Others include wrongly documenting

A Comparison Of The Taj Mahal And Palace Of Versailles
Ever since man began building structures and settling land, art has manifested itself in our
architectural creations. Whether it be to celebrate or worship a God or Gods, a grand sculpture to
bury a powerful leader or remember them by, or to show a culture s dedication to specific values,
our architectural constructions have led to some of the finest art this Earth has ever seen. The Taj
Mahaland Palace of Versaillesare two great examples of such art. By examining each of these
individually, and then comparing and contrasting them, it will become clear that no matter how
different looking these buildings may be, they still serve the same purpose to the civilizations that
erected them. The first piece of architectural art to look at is the Taj Mahal. It was constructed as a
mausoleum for the wife of Shah Jahans favorite wife after her death following complications of
childbirth (Kapadia, n.d.). It became so famous that its design was even replicated as a casino in
Atlantic City, although that became a mausoleum for the cash of its investors. When someone
looks at the Taj Mahal for the first time, the thing that stands out the most is the use of white marble
in its construction. Almost everything in the Taj Mahal was created with white marble. Next to be
noticed would be both the domes and minarets that make up the monument. These are key tenets of
the Mughal style that was used in building it. So too is the calligraphy that adorns almost all of the
gateways and

Characters in the General Prologue to The Canterbury...
The Canterbury Tales are essentially a Chaucerian satire; the author sets out to deliberately upset
the social order present at the time and proceeds to mock the faults innate in the characters.
Chaucer gives a compressed view of characters such as the Knight and the Monk; in their
descriptions, a preview of the kind of stories we can expect from these people is given. Take for
example the Miller; his physical description alleviates him as a thick brute with a filthy mouth that
was `moost of sin and harlotries , sufficed to say that his tale is one of adultery and sinful
behaviour. However, Chaucer is not always as straightforward as this in presenting the pilgrims to
us. His effective policy in unhinging the social hierarchy involves two... Show more content on

fact he does this so exceptionally well that he appears to have the talent for travelling with an

company of those not engaged with him on the battlefield. In keeping true to the tradition of his
profession, his dress was `nat gay , while his horse was considered good, however this is
permitted, as it is essential to his success. `And thereto hadde he ridden, no man ferre, as wel in

wholesome state that only a fool could fail to detect it. The course of the Knight s expeditions

Discounted Cash Flow
discounted cash flow (DCF
In finance, discounted cash flow (DCF) analysis is a method of valuing a project, company, or
asset using the concepts of the time value of money. All future cash flows are estimated and
discounted to give their present values (PVs) the sum of all future cash flows, both incoming and
outgoing, is the net present value (NPV), which is taken as the value or price of the cash flows in
question.
Using DCF analysis to compute the NPV takes as input cash flows and a discount rate and gives
as output a price; the opposite process taking cash flows and a price and inferring a discount rate,
is called the yield.
Discounted cash flow analysis is widely used in investment finance, real estate development, and
corporate ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Using the DPV formula above (FV=$150,000, i=0.05, n=3), that means that the value of
$150,000 received in three years actually has a present value of $129,576 (rounded off). In other
words we would need to invest $129,576 in a T Bond now to get $150,000 in 3 years almost risk
free. This is a quantitative way of showing that money in the future is not as valuable as money in
the present ($150,000 in 3 years isn t worth the same as $150,000 now; it is worth $129,576 now).
Subtracting the purchase price of the house ($100,000) from the present value results in the net
present value of the whole transaction, which would be $29,576 or a little more than 29% of the
purchase price.
Another way of looking at the deal as the excess return achieved (over the risk free rate) is (14.5%
5.0%)/(100%+5%) or approximately 9.0% (still very respectable).
But what about risk?
We assume that the $150,000 is John s best estimate of the sale price that he will be able to
achieve in 3 years time (after deducting all expenses, of course). There is of course a lot of
uncertainty about house prices, and the outcome may end up higher or lower than this estimate.
(The house John is buying is in a good neighborhood, but market values have been rising quite a
lot lately and the real estate market analysts in the media are talking about a slow down and higher
interest rates. There is a probability that John might not be able to get the full

During the 1920s, many partied and drinked in a fast paced lifestyle which can be related to
Charlie s original lifestyle. Later, during the 1920s, the stock market crash occurred, causing many

Women During the Gold Rush Essay example
Women During the Gold Rush The Gold Rush was one of the most influential times in
California History. During the four years from 1848 1852, 400,000 new people flooded into the
state. People from many countries and social classes moved to California, and many of them
settled in San Francisco. All this diversity in one place created a very interesting dynamic.
California during the Gold Rush, was a place of colliding ideals. The 49ers came from a very
structured kind of life to a place where one was free to make up her own rules. Freedom was in
the very air Californians breathed, for the country offered a unique and seductive drought of liberty.

Letters, journals, and reminiscences written by adventurers during the Gold Rush vividly illustrate
the internal struggle which people experienced. This is especially true of the writing by women of
the time. It is a long held myth that the gold rush was almost completely male. Yet, most trail
diaries mention the presence of women.4 Still, they were quite a minority. The 1860 census reveals
that in San Francisco that year, men outnumbered women three to two. Lopsided though this ratio
may be, there were enough women in California to have quite an influence, and perhaps they
struggled even more with their new freedom than the men. More restraint was expected from
women, and it was their duty to keep their husbands and children proper. How they chose to deal
with their new surroundings would have greatly impacted their families. Women offer an
interesting perspective, as women were traditionally the epitomes of Victorian morality. Historian
Lillian Schlissel writes that unlike the men, ...women did not always see the venture in the clear
light of the expectation of success. There were often shadows in their minds, dark areas of
reservation. 5 Women usually had little say in the matter of going West; therefore, it is logical that
they would see things in a different light than their adventure seeking husbands. Still, many women
were able to see the positive aspects of California, if not

The Importance Of Maternal And Child Health Progress On A...
Importance of Maternal and Child Health Progress on a Global Scale As one of the most significant
and pressing priorities of the Unites States government concerning global health, child and maternal
health is crucial and must be improved on an international level. Of all the Millennium
Development Goals, goals four and five have shown the least amount of progress. The goals which
aim to reduce child mortality and improve maternal health, respectively, have shown an
embarrisingly minimal amount of progress for the obstrusively simple solutions that accompany the
situation. It is essential to strengthen maternal and child health programs as it is a human rights
issue as well as a health concern. Women around the world deserve to have improved access to
high quality services. (8) Policies regarding health as well as multisectoral policies are vital in this
effort as they will help in establishing a healthy environment which will foster the proliferation and
facilitation of interventions. Despite the clear issues that require urgent addressing such as the
stagnant maternal deathrate and high newborn mortality rates, other issues still require immediate
attention as maternal and child health is an incredibly important topic among organizations that are
focusing on global health. The reason this issue presents itself in urgency and is becoming a high
priority does not solely rest in the severity of the case. The problems that surround maternal and
child health are so easily

The Strategies For Development Today
Strategies for Development Today Different views on development that are seen today are based on
the previous lessons learned from strategies used in the past. Protectionism was a strategy used in
the past where countries created steep barriers for imports from other countries. They used this
strategy to help protect their starting industries. Countries didn t open up international market
competition until they were sure they were ready to compete profitably against them. This strategy
worked successfully for the United States, Germany, and Japan. In the second half of the twentieth
century, modern day strategies for development were of influence. Dominant strategies for
development used today are import substitution, state socialism, and... Show more content on

The goal was to catch up their technology with international producers to lower trade barriers over
time. Another advantage of import substitution was the balance of payments. Since the country
produced domestic goods that were once imported, this led to more imports of technology without
causing a deficit. Although import substitution did work out for some countries, it did have its
weaknesses towards the late twentieth century. These countries shifted from agriculture production
to manufacturing goods, which increased global agricultural prices and put food importers in a
tough situation. Another problem was that the domestic production of these countries did not
become competitive with the international markets. Small consumer markets could not reach the
production of important goods for the economies of larger domestic markets or international
markets. Also, since domestic producers do not have competition from foreign producers this
reduces the motivation for technology improvement. This did not prepare firms for the
international market, instead it made them remain incompetent or weak. When the state allocates
market resources instead of allowing the market to regulate the supply and demand of the resources
is an alternative strategy for development called state socialism. This strategy spread after World
War II to

Ways to Improve the Malaysian Electoral System
There are numerous ways to improve the Malaysian electoral system both in fairness and
efficiency. Currently, there is a lack in confidence in the validity or neutrality of the Electoral
Commissions (EC). Members of the EC are elected by the Yang di Pertuan Agong (YDPA) after
discussing with the Conference of Rulers (Legal Research Board, 2013). However, according to
Article 40 the YDPA can only act after receiving advice from the Cabinet or a Minister
representing the Cabinet (Legal Research Board, 2013); in most cases it would mean the Prime
Minister. Hence, it may seem that the politically neutral EC were to be pro government. A solution
to this problem would be to amend the Constitution so that the House of Representatives can debate
on the nomination of the EC members, then their decision would be passed on to the YDPA. By
doing so, the EC would comprise of members that have the approval of both the government and
opposition, thus making the committee fairer. Aside from that, the EC should manage its own
budget, and should be reviewed by the Auditor General and not be dissected by the Parliament.
Besides that, there were complaints about the use of indelible ink in the 13th general Election.
Oppositions and clean polls activists reported that the ink could be easily washed off (Election ink

Network Security And Its Effects On The Network
Abstract
In today s IT world, network security is starting to get more attention. In the past, companies
network infrastructures were capable of managing low amounts of attacks on the network. This is
not the case today. The number of online attacks is getting bigger and bigger. Today children from
age 6 are capable of breaking into someone s network system. For attackers, it does not matter
whether it is a large or small business or an individual computer. If they find a glitch in the network,
they will attack the system. Also, not too many people are conscious about how network security is
important in today s business. This paper will discuss network security, categorize type of hackers,

Confidentiality is set of rules that involve the protection of data from unauthorized entities.
Integrity has a role to make sure the modification of data is controlled in a specified and authorized

Availability ensures that data are accessible whenever needed by the company (Palo Alto Networks,

The following two concepts are the most common (Stallings Case, 2012):
Authenticity The property is original and can be identified and trusted by the business. This means
that users are checked and validated before each input reaches the system which indicated that it

Accountability has the security goal to make sure that the activities of entity could be uniquely

The Effects Of AIDS And The Media On The Gay Liberation...
The Effects of AIDS and the Media on the Gay Liberation Movement: The Constitution promises
liberty for all, regardless of one s sexual orientation. However, throughout courses of history in
America, homosexuals have lived in a conformist climate, and they have experienced various levels
of discrimination. Despite this, America also provided homosexuals with the power to fight their
oppressors, thus the Gay Liberation Movement. This movement was not one of linear pattern,
especially because of the effects of AIDS and the media. As a result of pre existing discrimination
and the stereotyping of homosexuals, the media and the public stigmatized AIDS, which
temporarily halted the progress of the Gay Liberation Movement; however, after the devastating
effects of the AIDS epidemic, the movement advanced as the media shifted the discussion of AIDS
and allowed for homosexuals to fight for proper treatment, research, and rights. Due to a conformist
society in which homosexuals felt oppressed by conservative views, homosexuals were
discriminated against and ridiculed, causing interruptions in the movement and a difficulty
advocating for their rights. Due to homosexuals lack of conformity to societal norms, many
believed homosexuals were not normal and needed to be fixed . So, doctors and psychiatrists used
electrical shock treatment; when homosexuals protested this and disrupted the psychiatrist parley,
their defense was that unhappy homosexuals came to them and requested

Danny Saunders In Chaim Potok s The Chosen
In Chaim Potok s The Chosen, Danny Saunders is a Hasidic Jew with an amazing mind, who
lives with his tzaddik father, Rebbe Isaac Saunders, and all of his followers. Rebbe Saunders never
speaks to Danny except when discussing Talmud in order to force Danny to be compassionate.
Danny does not understand why his father does this, and is in constant torment because of it. In the
neighborhood where he lives there is an expressed tension between the different sects of Judaism, of
which Hasidism is thought to be an outcast even of them. Danny has a love and great talent for
baseball, but sport is considered sinful on many different levels to most Jews. Danny nevertheless
convinces his father to allow him to create a baseball team, on the grounds that they defeat an
Orthodox Jew s team led by a Coach Galanter (the other best team in the league), at their own game.
During the game Danny meets an Orthodox Jew who is excellent at pitching, on the other team,...

Malter s book recommendations. Starting on page 83, the reader can notice that Danny s
extensive intelligence drives him to pursue studies that interest him. Though Danny is very
intelligent, he has no guidance for deciding which books to read. If Danny did not receive this
guidance, there are two likely possibilities: the first is that he may get the wrong types of books,
and the second is that he would never find what he was looking for. By providing good books for
Danny to read, Mr. Malter gives Danny aid toward his studies.
The final way in which people help Danny learn new ideas is by the Silence between Danny and
his father.

The And Of African Americans
To break this question down it s simply asking How can something you believe in or know
change your perspective plan ideas or intentions that we have? To what extent mean the limit of
something. A concept is a general notion plan idea or intention; conception. An idea of something
formed by mentally combining all its characteristics or particulars; a construct. And finally
shaping our conclusions means change how we see things. The knowledge question would be
how badly does what we already know change how we see the world. I agree that what we
already know and have general ideas of can change how we see things. Like with the AOK history.
The concept of history can change the way Caucasians or African Americans view slavery. White
peoplemay view slavery as a good thing or a bad thing and view black peopleas equals or not. They
may feel horrible about what their people has done to African Americans in the past and become
sympathetic to them.White people may feel guilty. African Americans may not be as
understanding to white people. White people were responsible for slavery.Slavery was cruel and
brutal. It broke up families, limited life choice and resulted in the death of many African
Americans. They were dehumanized by Caucasians which is something that black people still
suffer from today. Things like police brutality and white privilege plays a huge part in this.
Majority of white police officers use excessive and/or unnecessary force when dealing with African

Aschenputtel Character Traits
Character Analysis Essay Most of the time our life doesn t have a huge happy ending. Well in
Aschenputtel s case it does. In the Grimm brothers Aschenputtel, a girl, is forced to do grunt
work by her step family. One day there was a ball which was a chance for the prince to pick a
wife. The evil stepmother and step daughters went to the ball while aschenputtel finished up her
chores. Aschenputtel s trusty doves helped her out and gave her a beautiful dress and shoes to
wear at the ball. When Aschenputtel entered the ball no one recognized her. She and the prince
danced all night long. After going to the ball three times, the prince took quite a liking to her. While
aschenputtel was running back home she lost one of her golden slippers. As the prince went around
the town trying to figure out who the slipper belonged to he arrived at Aschenputtel s estate. The
stepsisters claimed... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
On page 753 it says, Cut your toe off, for when you are queen, you will never have to go on foot.
So the girl cut her toe off, squeezed her foot into the shoe, concealed the pain, and went to the
prince. One of the stepsisters cut of her toe while the other cut off her heel just to fit the golden
slipper. They only did it because their mother told them to. Even though the stepsisters new that
they weren t the girl he danced with they still did it. Overall the stepsisters are very naive. In this
story the stepsisters strongest characters traits are cruel, brutal, and naive. The stepsisters
character traits were shown when they made fun of Aschenputtel, made her do all the work, and
cut off their toe and heel. If the stepsisters aren t more kind to the people around them then they
will miss out on a lot of good friendships. They will also lose all of their current friends if they are
not nice to them. That also goes for everyone else in this world. If you are just mean to people
then you won t have many people caring for you in the

Globalization and Children
To what extent has globalization improved the lives of children and youth? To say that
globalization has affected the lives of children and youth around the world would be an
understatement. But with the growth over the years from globalization, many pros and cons have
come out of it. The forthcoming of globalization has done wonders to developed countries, but not
so much for underdeveloped countries. This is why I stand on a thin line between if it has
improved the lives plenty, or not quite enough. Globalization has increased economic competition.
With this producers try to provide goods and services of value at the lowest possible prices. To
achieve such a goal, manufacturer s hire youth and children. They force the youth and... Show more

To be able to do this, Riordan Manufacturing must upgrade outdated equipment, upgrade unsupported operating systems and applications, and consolidate databases and increase productivity. Some of the hardware that exists at Albany and Pontiac sites needs upgrades to increase the productivity of the plants. Namely, it shows how a group of characters living in the same slum neighborhood responds to the combined promise and threat of Western influenced modernization. The attempts of several residents to escape the alley and move up in status end with dreams broken and unfulfilled. The opening sentences of Midaq Alley points to a world bypassed by history: Many things combine to show that Midaq Alley is one of the gems of times gone by and that it once shone forth like a flashing star in the history of Cairo. • 9. Protecting Floodplains by Aaron Dante Mamiit Protecting Floodplains by Aaron Dante Mamiit Flooding is a constant issue faced by Metro Manila. Although there are times when flooding is merely an inconvenient and annoying event, there are also times when it develops into something much more frightening and dangerous. But why is Metro Manila so badly plagued by floods anyway? One of the reasons why Metro Manila constantly battles with the flood problem is because a large part of it is situated on a floodplain. What are floodplains? Floodplains are landscapes that are formed when running water, often in streams and rivers, transports eroded rock and other similar materials from their banks to a lower part of the Earth s surface. At these lower parts, the flow of water slows down, and the rock and materials that the water is carrying are dropped. This leads to the creation of deposital landforms. One of these landforms is the floodplain. Floodplains are nearly flat, hence the plains part of their name. The flood part, on the other hand, should be pretty obvious these floodplains are subject to periodic flooding. What happens on floodplains? Flooding occurs when water overflows from a stream or river. When the water levels become too high, the water flows out of the stream channel and over the stream banks, submerging the adjacent floodplain. As water overflows, the material it carries sediments such as sand, gravel, clay, and silt are deposited on the floodplain. The larger particles are deposited first, closer ... In this very amendment lies the main issue of gun control. To many, the language of the amendment appears to grant to the people the absolute right to bear arms. (Wicked) After being subjected to so much information, how is the reader to know which side is right? According to Wicked, This can be a difficult question to answer and requires detailed analysis to come to an informed decision. Studies that have been done on the issue of gun control have found many things that gun control affects and many things that it does not affect. One key item that studies have found is that gun control laws affect the use of specific guns in violent crimes, but do not affect the rate of crime itself. The controlling of firearms by either banning the sale, transfer, importation, or manufacture of, as well as controlling the amount of ammunition available and the storage of that ammunition, is irrelevant to the reduction of violent crime. When debating the effect that a particular law, or ban of item, has on the rate of violent crime, it is beneficial to look back at the effect that laws and bans similar to these have had on the crime rate throughout history. The 1994 Assault Weapons ban which Dianne Feinstein proposed and that of which Congress passed would be a prime example. This ban specifically selected fire arms ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Discounted Cash Flow discounted cash flow (DCF In finance, discounted cash flow (DCF) analysis is a method of valuing a project, company, or asset using the concepts of the time value of money. All future cash flows are estimated and discounted to give their present values (PVs) the sum of all future cash flows, both incoming and outgoing, is the net present value (NPV), which is taken as the value or price of the cash flows in question. Using DCF analysis to compute the NPV takes as input cash flows and a discount rate and gives as output a price; the opposite process taking cash flows and a price and inferring a discount rate, is called the yield. Using the DPV formula above (FV=$150,000, i=0.05, n=3), that means that the value of $150,000 received in three years actually has a present value of $129,576 (rounded off). In other words we would need to invest $129,576 in a T Bond now to get $150,000 in 3 years almost risk free. This is a quantitative way of showing that money in the future is not as valuable as money in the present ($150,000 in 3 years isn t worth the same as $150,000 now; it is worth $129,576 now). Subtracting the purchase price of the house ($100,000) from the present value results in the net present value of the whole transaction, which would be $29,576 or a little more than 29% of the purchase price. Another way of looking at the deal as the excess return achieved (over the risk free rate) is (14.5% 5.0%)/(100%+5%) or approximately 9.0% (still very respectable). But what about risk? We assume that the $150,000 is John s best estimate of the sale price that he will be able to achieve in 3 years time (after deducting all expenses, of course). There is of course a lot of uncertainty about house prices, and the outcome may end up higher or lower than this estimate. (The house John is buying is in a good neighborhood, but market values have been rising quite a lot lately and the real estate market analysts in the media are talking about a slow down and higher interest rates. During the four years from 1848 1852, 400,000 new people flooded into the state. People from many countries and social classes moved to California, and many of them settled in San Francisco. All this diversity in one place created a very interesting dynamic. California during the Gold Rush, was a place of colliding ideals. The 49ers came from a very structured kind of life to a place where one was free to make up her own rules. Freedom was in the very air Californians breathed, for the country offered a unique and seductive drought of liberty. People were free from censure, from Eastern restrictions, from societal... This is especially true of the writing by women of the time. It is a long held myth that the gold rush was almost completely male. Yet, most trail diaries mention the presence of women.4 Still, they were quite a minority. The 1860 census reveals that in San Francisco that year, men outnumbered women three to two. Lopsided though this ratio may be, there were enough women in California to have quite an influence, and perhaps they struggled even more with their new freedom than the men. More restraint was expected from women, and it was their duty to keep their husbands and children proper. How they chose to deal with their new surroundings would have greatly impacted their families. Women offer an interesting perspective, as women were traditionally the epitomes of Victorian morality. Historian Lillian Schlissel writes that unlike the men, ...women did not always see the venture in the clear light of the expectation of success. There were often shadows in their minds, dark areas of reservation. 5 Women usually had little say in the matter of going West; therefore, it is logical that they would see things in a different light than their adventure seeking husbands. The Strategies For Development Today Strategies for Development Today Different views on development that are seen today are based on the previous lessons learned from strategies used in the past. Protectionism was a strategy used in the past where countries created steep barriers for imports from other countries. They used this strategy to help protect their starting industries. Countries didn t open up international market competition until they were sure they were ready to compete profitably against them. This strategy worked successfully for the United States, Germany, and Japan. In the second half of the twentieth century, modern day strategies for development were of influence. The goal was to catch up their technology with international producers to lower trade barriers over time. Another advantage of import substitution was the balance of payments. Since the country produced domestic goods that were once imported, this led to more imports of technology without causing a deficit. Although import substitution did work out for some countries, it did have its weaknesses towards the late twentieth century. These countries shifted from agriculture production to manufacturing goods, which increased global agricultural prices and put food importers in a tough situation. Another problem was that the domestic production of these countries did not become competitive with the international markets. Small consumer markets could not reach the production of important goods for the economies of larger domestic markets or international markets. Also, since domestic producers do not have competition from foreign producers this reduces the motivation for technology improvement. This did not prepare firms for the international market, instead it made them remain incompetent or weak. When the state allocates market resources instead of allowing the market to regulate the supply and demand of the resources is an alternative strategy for development called state socialism. • 35. Ways to Improve the Malaysian Electoral System There are numerous ways to improve the Malaysian electoral system both in fairness and efficiency. Currently, there is a lack in confidence in the validity or neutrality of the Electoral Commissions (EC). Members of the EC are elected by the Yang di Pertuan Agong (YDPA) after discussing with the Conference of Rulers (Legal Research Board, 2013). However, according to Article 40 the YDPA can only act after receiving advice from the Cabinet or a Minister representing the Cabinet (Legal Research Board, 2013); in most cases it would mean the Prime Minister. Hence, it may seem that the politically neutral EC were to be pro government. A solution to this problem would be to amend the Constitution so that the House of Representatives can debate on the nomination of the EC members, then their decision would be passed on to the YDPA. By doing so, the EC would comprise of members that have the approval of both the government and opposition, thus making the committee fairer.
