Brown V. Board Of Education Case Analysis
Brown v. Board of Education was a landscape changing court case that altered the public school
system forever. The ruling that separate educational facilities are inherently unequal, therefore, a
violation of the equal protection clause of the Fourteenth Amendment of the Constitution, ended racial
segregation in public schools (archives.gov). May 2014 was the 60th anniversary of this court
decision, and it is an important time to reflect on the effects that this ruling has had on our country.
According to research, black student achievement has greatly improved since the desegregation of
schools (Strauss, 2014). With the help of proper school supplies and conducive learning environments,
students of all races have been able to achieve higher academic goals. The results of this court case
extend beyond black students; Brown v. Board of Education opened the door for educational equality
for a great deal of other students. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Board of Education created the foundation for other court cases to desegregate schools on grounds
other than race. The Brown decision inspired advocates for children identified with disabilities to
pursue desegregation and other equality strategies (Minow, 2004). Thanks to Brown, students with
disabilities are able to attend schools with children their own age. While this case is over 60 years old,
America can still see and feel the influence of its verdict. Today, we have a diverse student population
within our public schools. However, more can still be achieved for equality in our society. The
struggle with racism and segregation are still very present in America; we see proof of their existence
in the news almost every day. The shootings in Charleston, SC and Ferguson, MO are evidence that
heinous crimes, which extend beyond education, are still committed in America based on race.
However, the removal of the Confederate flag and movements to end racially motivated crimes are
signs of

Barthelme s Not-Knowing
In his short story, Not Knowing , Donald Barthelme brings the audience into the typical planning and
step by step thought process he has when beginning to write a story. He highlights different writing
styles and how they can convey the point one would be trying to make. Barthelme also allows us to
see his personal method for writing stories, addressing the necessity that is not knowing as well as
how not having a traditional plot structure ahead of writing is what calls for good, artistic pieces of
literature to be produced. He displays that his characters do not typically come with preplanned life
stories beforehand, but rather life stories that come into being at the instant it s inscribed. Another
useful piece of advice is making sure that the lifestyles one does construct for their characters lean
towards being more realistic and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In one particular excerpt, ...Hilda and Heidi have had a baby, with which they re thoroughly

early on in their story; however, Barthelme is determined to not give instant gratification to his
audience prematurely as he believes it does not make for a good piece of literature. Another excerpt in
which he references the importance of not focusing on meaningless details is when he brings up
Rauschenburg s goat and how if one spends their time fixating on finer details instead of the message
of a story as a whole, the work collapses more or less behind their back , when it would have been
better off being left for interpretation. Barthelme himself does not wish to be a deconstructionalist, as

Experimental Study On Strength And Workability Of Cement...
EXPERIMENTAL STUDY ON STRENGTH AND WORKABILITY OF CEMENT MATERIALS
USING MAGNESIUM SILICATE HYDRATE BINDER SYSTEM
H. M. Tran, A. Scott
1,2University of Canterbury, Christchurch, New Zealand
There has been increasing studies on magnesium silicate hydrate binder system as an eco cement and
its potential use for nuclear waste immobilization. The cementing properties and workability of
cement paste and mortar using magnesium silicate hydrate binder were examined by compressive
strength, flow test and scanning electron microscopy. The binder composition was proposed based on
stoichiometric ratio. The results showed that magnesium silicate hydrate binder exhibits very high
water demand due to containing high microfine content of amorphous silica (silica fume). However, it
is possible to produce workable mixes at normal water to binder ratio (w/cm=0.40 and below) by use
of polycarboxylate based superplasticizer. Crushed quartz with smooth texture and particle size
coarser than magnesium and silica fume was used as fillers to form ternary system. Use of crushed
quartz fillers contributes to water reduction and improves packing density, hence increases strength of
magnesium silicate hydrate binder system. Mortar samples of the binder containing 40% magnesium
oxide, 40% silica fume (Mg/Si molar ratio = 1.50) and 20% crushed quartz fillers resulted in
encouraging compressive strength of up to 70 MPa.

Application Room For Breast Imaging
When I entered the medical field over twenty years ago, at the front desk of the radiology department
were file cabinets which contained notecards listing the imaging studies performed on each patient. If
a patient had previous imaging, we would go to the film file room to retrieve the folder from the
rolling storage units. In these heavy folders, along with the films, is also where we would find the
typed reports associated with those old exams. After the radiologist compared new studies with the old
and dictated a report onto a small cassette tape, the transcriptionist would type the report from the
recording and a copy of the report stapled to the paper order for the exam performed was added to the
folder. Copies of the reports were filed in medical records and sent to the ordering provider. At the end
of each day, all film folders were returned to the file room for storage. In my current practice, imaging
orders are entered in the patient s electronic chart in the Epic computer system. When a patient arrives
for breast imaging, the relevant medical history is reviewed and updated in the Magview system.
Previous images are retrieved from PACS and the current digital study is compared on high resolution
computer monitors. With a few mouse clicks in Magview, the radiologist generates a report from the
patient history and current findings. Signing off with another click, the report is then immediately
added to the patient s chart and the ordering provider is notified of

New South Wales s Impact On Social And Economic Development
New South Wales was given self government because of social, economical and political development
in the 19th century that would change society. In 1810, Lachlan Macquarie became the Governor of
New South Wales creating tremendous impact for social and economic development. Macquarie was
the last autocratic Governor of New South Wales from 1819 1821, as New South Wales would
transition from a penal colony to a self governed society. Macquarie established economic growth in
many forms as public works, churches and charitable institutions creating employment and commerce.
He also sought a strong relationship with the Aborigines that helped create peace unity with the
Europeans that would settle in New South Wales. In 1810 1850, the social and political development
in New South Wales saw a rise in squattocracy and the formation of political groups in Sydney with
new demands. It remains significant to explore why New South Wales was given self government with
focus social and political development that would change creating economic growth to form a new
society.
From 1810 to 1821, New South Wales was governed by Lachlan Macquarie who later would be called
The Father of Australia . Macquarie was among the first military governors of New South Wales and
the last aristocratic governor of this territory. Macquarie vision was to transform New South Wales
from a traditional penal convict establishment to a society that was more reflective of the English
lifestyle. Macquarie

Mamma Mia Case Study
Mamma Mia!
Introduction
Mamma Mia is a global musical phenomenon which is playing simultaneously around the world in
more countries than any other musical. It has become a global entertainment experience and has
brought back to life the tremendous writing talents of ABBA s Benny Andersson and Bjorrn Ulvaeus.
ABBA Fans simply can t get enough of Mamma Mia! as tickets sales are always in demand and the
musical continues to sell out to packed houses night after night. Mamma Mia s claim to fame has been
a long roller coaster ride. The show had its ups, downs, twists and turns. It had gained a lot of critics
and fans. It had its fair share of controversies. But nonetheless, It made people get up on their seats

The team is composed of known people in their fields that may be a huge factor in their success.
Bringing Ulvaeus and Andersson into the world of theater featuring 22 of their best songs.
The ABBA music in the production could bring several advantages. One is bringing fans of Ulvaeus
and Andersson as additional audiences in the show. Another is that the two could be the upper hand of
Mamma Mia compared to other productions. But, bringing the two singers in the world of theater
could be a risk since they are known as singers not actors, and there may be conflicts with people who
do not appreciate their music. The production s story line is non traditional. Mamma Mia built its plot
around the songs, different from classic productions wherein the songs are only complimentary to the
storyline. The story is feel good and not much thinking is required. It may be considered as innovative
although it may cost the audience who prefer the traditional theater.
III. Alternatives/Options
1. Opportunity: ABBA Music popular in the market
Action: Emphasizing or featuring ABBA music in marketing the production. People who are
considered fans of ABBA could be a great addition to the viewers of Mamma Mia.
2. Opportunity: Gloomy mood due to the bombing of world trade center
Action: Allot a percentage of benefits to the victims of the bombing so the audience would have a dual
purpose n attending the show: for entertainment

Case Study Of SARK Logistics
Introduction
The First Stone of SARK Logistics was placed down in 2008 as a Custom House Agent in Delhi. After
getting an optimistic response from its precious clients they took a step further and instituted SARK
LOSIGTICS as an international freight forwarder.
The SARK Logistics has a perfect lineup of logistics business units inside the field of transportation,
forwarding, distribution and other logistics services. It provides both types of freight forwarding
services, air freight forwarding and sea freight forwarding. If one starts exploring for the words to
define the quality of services offered by SARK Logistics, the terms like unexampled and notable
appear out to be most appropriate
The essence of their services lies in their technique where attention is paid to each and every possible
aspect. Their team of qualified and licit personnel handles Custom clearance via Documentation,

Its evident from the survey that the company s present customers got to know about it from other
exporters/importers or friends. Therefore it is important for SARK Logistics to amplify its marketing
activities and market itself through internet and newspapers/magazines. This would help them increase
its customers base especially when not many new customers have been added in the last 3 years.
 The company should make an effort to increase its customers particularly exporters as the number
of exporters are about half in relation to the number of exporters. Also with the Government proposing
to impose an anti dumping duty on the import of tyres, the company might lose its customers who
import tyres due to the duty affecting their imports. Additionally the company should focus more on
increasing its exporting customers as the Make in India campaign gains momentum in the economy,
there will be a chance of exports rising and thus it ll be easy to find customers who are willing to

Between Horatio Alger Myth In It s A Wonderful Life And...
The two movies of the week, It s a Wonderful Life by Frank Capra and American Beauty by Sam
Mendes are a perfect portrayal of the American values in a positive and a negative way as I will
explain in my discussion. Both movies got the idea of the Horatio alger myth, which is the American
dream that everybody by hard work and determination can be successful and make it to the top to
money and fame. Success in both movies is portrayed differently for example in It s a Wonderful Life
success was not the money and fame and the typical hollywood portrayal of success, but family and
homeland, which are related to the german idea of heimat, which is the value of home. However in
American beauty the typical American success was portrayed, which ... Show more content on

However following the basic american dream idea in the film American beauty and chasing money
lead to a dystopian end and family destruction, which is a cautionary tale that money is not the most
important thing in life, but family ties and connections. All the families in American beauty were
psychotic, unstable and terrifying, which shows the effect of the American myth on people that it
destroys relationships as I mentioned by the family being torn apart and just faking that it s a happy
family, everything went downhill. To explain the idea that the american dream is just a false myth, In
American dream at the end of the movie nothing came back to equilibrium after the chaos so the end
was dystopian, this is because the family ties were not strong and money and fortune were the main
goals. In contrast in It s a wonderful life, the equilibrium of the narrative was resorted and the end was
utopian by the happy family gathering. The idea of the male gaze was presented in both movies to
show male sexuality and urge and portray women as a subject of joy. Few examples were Riky

Dorian Gray Deception
One s Appearance is Deceptive to One s Reality Acting permits a person to play different characters
and appear as a different person then their self, as it is said, I love acting. It is so much more than real
life (Wilde, 89). The novel, The Picture of Dorian Gray, by Oscar Wilde, portrays that one s
appearance does not always match their soul. Wilde conveys this message through the manner in
which a person behaves, in what they do, and through their looks. The kind manner in which Dorian
acts, really deceives everyone. When Dorian wants to make sure his corrupted soul is hidden, he
kindly asks Mr. Hubbard for his assistance... I am so sorry you have given yourself the trouble for
coming round, Mr. Hubbard. It is rather heavy, so I would ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Just because Dorian looks so innocent, does not mean that he really is, and this is brought up several
times in the novel. For example, when Lady Narborough says to Dorian, you are made to be good you
look so good (197). This shows how Lady Narborough thinks that Dorian looks so good and because
of his good looks, his soul must be just as good. Although, this is false because no one knows what
Dorian had just done, which was killing Basil. They are all being fooled by his looks. Furthermore, to
relate back to this situation, after Dorian commits this murder, certainly no one looking at [him] that
night could have believed that he passed through a tragedy. Those finely shaped fingers could never
have clutched a knife for sin, nor those smiling lips have cried out on God and goodness (192). This
really emphasizes that Dorian possibly committed the biggest sin there is in life, but because of his
good looks, no one would be able to realize what he did. Dorian Gray easily proves that one s
appearance does not match his cruel soul. Wilde explores on why one should not judge a book by its
cover through Dorian s good

Citizen Sherlock Jr Film Analysis
During the first unit, we discussed the different techniques used during filming. These techniques can
include how the camera is position on the actors like in Citizen Kane. It can also be how much of the
actor is showing and how long the scene is without cuts like in both Sherlock Jr. and Singing in the
Rain. Another technique involves cutting scenes into short shots like in Battleship Potemkin. These
techniques are used to show off new film styles, to indirectly tell the audience something, or to show
off the amazing abilities of the actors.
In Buster Keaton s Sherlock Jr. (1924), there were many different techniques used throughout the film.
One of these techniques used is long take. Long take is when the film continues rolling without any
cuts (Geiger and Rutsky 1075). Using this means that everyone in the scene must get the entire scene
right without any mistakes. Long shots are also used ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

using angles to portray emotion. Kane is shot from a low angle so that the audience is looking up at
him. Shooting him from this angle shows that he has more power than Susan. She was going to do
what he said and he was intimidating to her. Susan was shot from a high angle. At that moment, Susan
was powerless to the tyranny that Kane had on her. She was unable to fight back that night. After
returning from camping, Susan packed her bags and left Kane. He was angry and started throwing
things but even throughout his anger, Susan was not shot from a high angle. This shows that she is no

The Pearl Character Analysis
The Pearl, had many different characters with faults. Those faults seemed very small as the story
began, however those tiny flaws quickly became noticeable and conflicting. After being exposed to
such bad and wrong, the characters begin to really show their true colors. They show who they really
are under the influence of their faults, whether it be greed or desperateness. The characters being
completely different yet still try to show some connection and do things they would not do otherwise.
Most characters need some sort of light to shine upon their dark dreams as Steinbeck says. There are
many characters and scenes to talk about in the story but the main thing to discuss are certain
characters faults in their goals, failures to see past grees, and their dreams. Strangely enough, there is
the well known doctor who would not see the ill baby at the beginning of the story till he heard about
the pearl Kino found. It was at this point when the doctor felt the urge to suddenly head on over to
Kino s town to check up on his child. This is a major fault that goes along with his character. His
failure is due to selfishness, as he wants the pearl to go to Paris. They flat out state before the character
was even introduced, And they knew the doctor. They knew his ignorance, his cruelty, his avarice, his
appetites, his sins (Steinbeck chapter 1). He pretends as though he d love to take Kino and Juana, but
it is well known he just wants their funds. He even gives the baby

Affects of European Law on English Law
Question 1:
The European law has affects the current English law by stating which particular bodies of rules
needed to be taken into consideration. And the commercial Agents (Council Directive) Regulations
1993 whose passed principles which modified the traditional common law agency rules has also
produced an entirely new and commercially important form of agency.
Courts may use the instrument s preamble or the Directives explanatory notes in order to define the
aim of the European Directives.
Termination of the agent s authority is prospective and not retrospective. Both principal and agent is
able to sue each other on claims which accumulated prior termination. Such example where agent
could be sued for negligent performance of his obligation due to agent s illness.
Thus, if agency is contractual, the contract could only be terminable on a reasonable notice to prevent
a breach of contract by principal.
The relationship between Principal and Agent is stated in common law where agent is in a fiduciary
relationship with the Principal. Agency is the relationship arising where one person, the principal (P),
appoints another, the agent (A) to bring about, modify or terminate legal relations between the
principal and a third party (T)
The type of agent in this case is sales agent where the sales figure is observed from time to time by the
principal.
In this question, it is concerning the commercial agents which defined under the Regulation

Importance And Significance Of Forgiveness
The purpose of this research paper is the importance and significance of forgiveness in resolving
conflict. In order to resolve a conflict completely, forgiveness is at some point is a must. It may not
come immediately, and an I m sorry may not be enough for one person to be able to forgive the other,
but one has to be open to having the ability to both give and receive it in order for reconciliation to be
completely successful. One may ask how forgiving someone they are in conflict with is important to
achieving a positive outcome, such as reconciliation, as without forgiveness one cannot be able to put
the issue behind them and move forward in life. This paper is going to try and explore that question
and show that yes, having the ability to forgive, is very significant in finding a resolution to the
conflict. It will research, viewpoints on forgiveness and its much needed contribution in order to
resolve a conflict. It will look into how the field of psychology views the importance of forgiveness
and that of a biblical worldview and even the effects it can have on your daily health when conflicts
are allowed to keep going and one is overcome with negativity and stress from the situation. Not
everyone looks at forgiveness the same, or are able to come to a point where they are willing to try to

Evaluate The Pros And Cons Of 360-Degree Appraisal
Evaluate the pros and cons of a 360 degree evaluation method.
Performance is evaluated, and information is provided to employees that enables them to reflect on
their performance and develop plans. The 360 degree approach allows a wider range of people to
evaluate and give feedback on an employee s performance. A manager might conduct a self appraisal,
as well as receive feedback from peers, subordinates, superiors, and even customers and clients. Some
advantages of 360 degree appraisal are that employees can get more than one perspective, and that
people who work closely with the employee on a day to day basis can give feedback on overall
performance, not just once a month or once a year. It is also a useful technique for meeting customer
needs. It is sometimes easy for members within an organization to lose sight of the customers
perspectives, and 360 degree appraisal brings the customers viewpoints into the larger picture. Some
disadvantages include the possibility of spiteful evaluations from disgruntled subordinates, especially
if evaluations are anonymous, coerced positive evaluations from intimidated employees, or misguided
evaluations from employees who are not knowledgeable enough about the job they are evaluating.

Feminization Of Poverty And Poverty
Feminization of Poverty
Poverty is an issue that is faced by multitudes of people around the world. Poverty itself is defined as,
the state of being poor (Merriam Webster). According to Sara S. McLanahan, of Princeton University,
In the United States, poverty is defined as not having enough income to pay for basic needs, such as
food, clothing and shelter. Poverty is a family attribute. In other words, if a family is classified as
poor, all the members of that family are also poor (McLanahan, n.d.). The U.S. Census Bureau, in
2013 shows, there were 45.3 million people in poverty just in the United States (U.S Census Bureau,
2013). From those living in poverty, in the same year, the ratio of the female poverty rate to the male
poverty rate was 1.2 women were 20 percent more likely to be poor than men (Mykyta, 2013, p. 2).
Also, of all people categorized as in poverty in 2011, approximately 56 percent were women (Mykyta,
2013, p. 2). Sakiko Fukuda Parr, director of the Human Development Report, portrays a simple truth,
women are poorer than men (Fukuda Parr, 1999, p. 99). Feminization of poverty is defined as, A
societal level process over time in which the poor are increasingly made up of women and children
(Eshleman, 2010, p. 588). According to Lauren Abbate of Mount Holyoke College, Feminization of
poverty is the phenomenon in which women experience poverty at rates that are disproportionately
high in comparison to men (Abbate, 2010). It appears that,

Houston Fire Department Report
Introduction
The world is changing every single day. The communities change and so do the community services.
This paper looks at what the future looks like for Houston Fire Department. The discussion looks at
the situation in the past, at the moment and tries to forecast the future Fire Department. In order to
project how the department will look like in the next twenty years, it is important to take stock of past
developments in the firefighting industry in general and Houston Fire Department in specific.
Discussion
There are several positive advancements that have been realized in fire emergency response over time.
Benchmarking on the current status, the Houston Fire Department is likely to evolve in three key
areas. First, technological advancement. At the moment, Project Ethan has brought a revolution in
emergency response service. Project Ethan has been rolled out across the firehouses in the city. Project
Ethan is a solution where people used video chats to communicate with medical doctors on
emergencies and receive emergency care services. At the moment, referrals are made between 10am

fire department was merely concerned with extinguishing fire and fire related response. Today, the fire
department offers more than just fire accident response. This paradigm shift will progress into the
future. The Houston Fire Department will shift to offer comprehensive emergency response services
as opposed to fire incident management alone. In this endeavor, there are likely partnerships with

The Cold War, basically a gigantic nuclear arms race, was built on suspicion and tension between the
two major power brokers after World War II: The United States and the USSR. Speculation of what
perpetuated it has many veins; however, three major ideologies contributed. Fear of communism
become an international reality as the main governing polity, making an enemy out of the USSR.
Second is the Russian response to invasion across their borders in the past wars, and thus fear drove
them to it. The USA and the USSR have different political cultures and interests which intensified fear
of dangerous conflict and confrontations a reality. As one can see, these ideologies have a very real
threat in common, worse than any arms race... fear. Once

Vang Pao Essay
In 1965 General Vang Pao was recruited by the CIA to help them fight a war in Laos, while the
Vietnam war was going on. The CIA, General Vang Pao, American troops and the Hmong veterans
were fighting against the Lao communist and the Vietnamese soldiers. The Lao communist
government structurally declared genocide on the Hmong. They came to every Hmong village that
thought supported the Americans. The communist slaughtered, burned, and raped the Hmongs. The
war was kept secret by the American Government because the CIA didn t have permission to go to

General Vang Pao was born in the Nonghet, Xiangkhouang in the region of Laos on December 8th,

trying to subjugate Laos. Later then he was recruited by the CIA (Central Intelligence Agency) while
there was a war going on near the mountains in Laos against the Pathet Laos, and people s army of

Descriptive Essay On Guitar Music
For my favorite instrument, I chose the guitar. Many people across the globe are familiar with the
sounds of the guitar. This chordophone, with such a diverse sound, has been showcased in our favorite
songs and bands for decades. As familiar as we are with the sound, how familiar are we the history,
manufacturers, artists, composers, and its popularity in a traditional orchestra? First, I will discuss the
history of the guitar; when it started, the miraculous evolution, and the manufacturers that took the
industry by storm. Although there are many theories, the history is hazy as to exactly where the first
known guitar came from prior to the 16th century. According to the book A Concise History of the
Classic Guitar by Wade Graham, Hittite stone carvings in Turkey; dated 1300 BC, eludes to the
possibility of a similar instrument, as well as mentions in the old testament of long necked lutes in
Mesopotamia. In Greek mythology; Fourth Homeric Hymn, mentions the use of a stringed instrument
made of cow gut and turtle carcass. History becomes a lot clearer around the 16th century, when
printed literature became available. According to acousticmusic the Baroque period is when the guitar
really began to gain popularity, and was commonly used to accompany vocalists. Guitar music began
to grow and evolve; the Classical period lasting from 1730 1820, and the Romantic period of 1815
1910 gained more popularity and diversity and was soon known worldwide. Other

Paper Towns
The book I am currently reading is called Paper Towns by John Green, the genre of the book is
mystery because close to the ending of the book she leaves clues to where she ran away. There are 305
pages in the book. A review this book got on it was The following is quite a lot of dribble that I felt the
need to get off my chest... . I recommend this book ages 14 and above because it has some words that
are bad and I think some kids parents might not want their kids to see those words. The most
important characters in Paper Towns are Margo Spiegelman and Quentin Jacobsen. Margo is quite a
dare devil, she challenges herself A LOT. She sneaks out of the house at night when her parents are
asleep. Margo can be funny but then turn ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Quentin then asked why she wanted to borrow the car, she then responded saying she had to do things
and go to the store. So they soon got into the car and drove off to the store. Margo needed: Vaseline,
six pack Mountain Dew, one dozen Tulips, one bottle of water, tissues, and one can of blue spray
paint. The reason Margo needed that stuff was because she was trying to get revenge on her friends
and ex boyfriend. Why?, Because he was cheating on her with another girl and her friends knew all
along and they didn t even think of telling Margo that he was cheating on her. I think the theme of this
book is, to get revenge on people for not telling you bad things so later on they won t hurt you, like in
this case Margo s ex boyfriend. I think this is the theme because if Margo s friends have told her
sooner, she wouldn t of been doing this to all her friends and her ex boyfriend. The conflict is mostly
Man Vs. Society like as Quentin tries to solve the clues she left and finding her. It s also Man Vs.
Society as Quentin is trying to find Margo because she disappeared and he feels guilty. Since my book
was made into a movie, I would have to compare 1 thing of the movie and book. Sea World In The
Book In the book it talks about how it s the ONLY theme park Margo has

the author uses figurative language, symbolism and a theme throughout the story. Olivia E. Coolidge
uses personification by stating The lid flew up out of her hands and knocked her aside, while before
her frightened eyes, dreadful, shadowy shapes flew out of the box in an endless stream.

High Artistic Merit Films Exude Special Effects That Take...
High artistic merit films exude special effects that take Hollywood by storm. The American Film
Institute lists Forrest Gump as one of the greatest American films of all time. Released in 1994 by
Paramount Pictures, Forrest Gump tells the story of a Southern, mentally challenged man named
Forrest Gump who experiences many tribulations in his life, such as having a low IQ of 75 and
wearing braces on his leg as a child. Throughout the plot of the film, Forrest adheres to a signature
phrase coined by his mother, Life was like a box of chocolates. You never know what you re gonna
get. His willingness allows him to participate in some of the most iconic American events in the 1960s
and 1970s. Throughout the film, Forrest serves in the Vietnam War, masters table tennis, met erstwhile
presidents, opens a shrimp business, and even journeys across the country. Above everything else, the
character played by Tom Hanks wants to marry his childhood sweetheart, Jenny Curran, who he
always cared about. With a budget of $55 million, the lighthearted comedy drama s use of special
effects paid off as the Academy Award winning film remains one of the most iconic American films in
history. Director Robert Zemeckis exploits special effects such as zoomed in shots, computer
generated imagery, and blue screens to enhance the theme of a defined destiny as one deals with
chance elements in life.

The Digestive Enzyme Amylase
The digestive enzyme amylase was analysed in two different species of gastropod (the herbivorous
Turbo smaragdus and the carnivorous Cominella adspersa), in order to assess whether diet influences
digestive enzyme activity. This was determined by preparing a tissue homogenate from the digestive
gland of each of the species and comparing their measured absorbance to that of a standard curve that
reflected the relationship between absorbance and enzyme units.
Amylase activity (in units of enzyme per gram) was significantly higher in the herbivorous species
than in the carnivorous species, yet there was wide disparity in activity within the species indicating a
degree of plasticity in the enzyme s activity. The difference between T. smaragdus and C. adspersa
does, however, indicate that the activity of amylase follows a pattern influenced by diet in these
species.
Introduction
Most animals possess digestive enzymes that allow them to digest the food they consume. There is,
however, variation between species in the activity of individual enzymes (Chan, et al. 2004;
Chakrabati, et al. 1995), and this can indicate feeding ecology in animals. For instance, Kuz mina
(1996) found that certain digestive enzymes were correlated with diet composition: amylase activities
were lowest in carnivorous species of fish and highest in herbivores. Hence, the physiological
requirements to live as a carnivore or herbivore certainly differ between families.
Not only is this effect apparent in

Analysis Of The Book The Fugitive Essay
The Fugitive
One summer night Sara, Chad, Austin, Tristan, Autumn, Myles, Shelby, and I got together to find a
game to play. We met in Lincoln at South Pointe at Cold stone creamery. We headed to the mini golf
course but when we arrived the place was packed. So we stood in the parking lot trying to figure out
ideas. We were getting nowhere when Tristan says well we can play fugitive.
None of us had ever played it or even heard of such a game. He explained it was a game where we
have two people in a car trying to find the fugitives the fugitives start at one end of the town and the
cops would start at the other. There would be a designated place where if you made it without being
captured you won the game. So we decided Lincoln was too big to play it so we headed to our
hometown of Seward. We arrived at the ballfields and broke into four couples. Sara and Austin were
the cops and the rest of us were fugitives. They got in the burgandy van and drove to the other side of
town. Right when they were out of sight Chad and I sprinted as fast as we could to get a head start
over competition. I only made it about half a mile before I was keeled over out of breath but Chad,
who is in cross country, kept running and left me behind. Soon I was alone walking the streetlight lit
sidewalk trying to find my way to town square. As a girl walking alone always freaks me out
especially at night so I am extra aware of my surroundings. There are crickets chirping, wind is

Public Service Announcement Analysis
Starting a new school year as a tenth grader, I thought there wouldn t be any big changes but there
was, and there is. My classes became slightly more difficult than they were last year, as a freshman.
Which made it more challenging to keep up with all the class work, tests, quizzes, and homework.
Although, most of the assignments assigned became a bit effortless, of course effort is needed but it s
just so simple to do. All of my classes balance between those two, being challenging at times but also
being simple. I, like every other student was enrolled into a World History class. In History class, we
were assigned a Public Service Announcement(PSA) just recently. In History class, we were able to
choose our groups in which we would work on the PSA together. ... Show more content on

We then had to find a primary source ourselves from Modern Times about Transportation. After that
was complete, our second task was to create and design a storyboard for our actual PSA. My group
and I went with a simple task of just drawing out the pictures we had in mind and putting captions on
them. In our storyboard we presented steam trains, steam boats from the Industrial Revolution and
how the invention of the steam engine bettered but also damaged the world. We then showed cruise
ships, trains from modern times. We showed that for modern times trains are used for going to point A
to point B, and boats for example a cruise ship is for luxury. All in all, this bettered transportation for
the future. As time passes, transportation gets better and better. Since the Industrial Revolution the
problem with transportation hasn t changed, it s altered a bit but it s still the same problem. That is
problem is pollution. For example, cars, they run on gasoline and they produce and release exhaust
which pollutes the air. Polluting the air only harms us, so

Abstract Support Vector Machine (SVM) is regarded as a good alternative of the traditional learning
classification. Terrain classification using polarimetric synthetic aperture radar (POLSAR) imagery
has been a very active research field over recent years. Because of support vector s excellent learning
performance, it has become a research hot spot in the field of machine learning. In this paper, we
firstly evaluate and compare different features for classifying polarimetric SAR imagery and then we
will describe two SVM methods: Normal represents the one without feature selection and weighted
represents with optimal multi feature selection. Obviously, the weighted SVM returns a sparse set of
features and employs less SV s than normal. However, the performance of weighted SVM is no worse
and even better than the performance of normal one. The excellent recognition rates achieved in
experiments indicate that advanced (weighted) SVM is well suited for SAR image classification. The
good performance of the proposed methods is illustrated in three challenging remote sensing

The Morality of Managed Care Essay
The Morality of Managed Care
The preservation of health is a duty according to Herbert Spencer, an English philosopher (Andrews,
1993). Managed care conglomerates provide health coverage for increasing numbers of Americans.
Many critics question whether these businesses provide care dutifully. At the very least, the present
managed care system requires health care providers and recipients to reexamine established principles
underling physician patient interaction. Although health maintenance organizations are commonly
misunderstood, Americans hope these institutions will dampen runaway health care expenditures.
Since HMO s are increasing in number, health care recipients need to examine how established,
ethical principles in America ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Unlike fee for service reimbursement which was normative previous to managed care, HMO s usually
pay doctors and hospitals massive sums up front. These payments are arranged per diem, by
capitation, or sometimes by fixed salary. Many critics of managed care believe that these
compensation packages are immoral.
What Health Care Is Now
In order to ascertain the merit of managed health care, ethical presuppositions guiding our health care
system require consideration. In the United States, four main principles undergird the way health care
is practiced. These principles are: beneficence, nommaleficence, autonomy and justice. Beneficence is
the obligation of health care providers to render help to people in need. Just as health care workers are
called to provide care, they also have a duty to do no harm. This principle is commonly called
nonmaleficence. At times, the possibility of doing good may result in injury. Therefore, the principle
of beneficence and nonmaleficence do not always concur. Thirdly, the principle of autonomy allows
patients to make choices regarding their health care. In other words, health care providers should
allow patients to make the final decision regarding their treatment plan. Finally, justice refers to the
ethical concept of treating everyone in a

A variety of new trends and innovations have expand in banking industry. Some are positive and

Some people who has a not so good past history of credit may apply to get a collateral loan and it is
easier to pass the loan procedural. Much different from unsecured loan, where good history of past
credit is one of major consideration to giving out loan, the one that plays important role in the value of
collateral given.
Collateral or secured loan offers borrower to ask for big numbers. There is no maximum number for
borrowing as long the limit is not higher than the amount of collateral. The lenders feel confident
enough to give loan as long the appraisal give out satisfactory valuation.
As the amount borrowed is usually big, borrower usually asks for longer time span of repaying the
loan. Thus the amount of repayment will be smaller. Nonetheless longer time span substantially
increases the amount of interest need to be paid by borrower. The lender usually offers 5 20 years of
installment. Regardless the interest that applied in secured loan, it is however still lower than
unsecured loan.

  • 3. Brown V. Board Of Education Case Analysis Brown v. Board of Education was a landscape changing court case that altered the public school system forever. The ruling that separate educational facilities are inherently unequal, therefore, a violation of the equal protection clause of the Fourteenth Amendment of the Constitution, ended racial segregation in public schools (archives.gov). May 2014 was the 60th anniversary of this court decision, and it is an important time to reflect on the effects that this ruling has had on our country. According to research, black student achievement has greatly improved since the desegregation of schools (Strauss, 2014). With the help of proper school supplies and conducive learning environments, students of all races have been able to achieve higher academic goals. The results of this court case extend beyond black students; Brown v. Board of Education opened the door for educational equality for a great deal of other students. ... The Brown decision inspired advocates for children identified with disabilities to pursue desegregation and other equality strategies (Minow, 2004). Today, we have a diverse student population within our public schools. However, more can still be achieved for equality in our society. The struggle with racism and segregation are still very present in America; we see proof of their existence in the news almost every day. • 4. Barthelme s Not-Knowing In his short story, Not Knowing , Donald Barthelme brings the audience into the typical planning and step by step thought process he has when beginning to write a story. He highlights different writing styles and how they can convey the point one would be trying to make. Barthelme also allows us to see his personal method for writing stories, addressing the necessity that is not knowing as well as how not having a traditional plot structure ahead of writing is what calls for good, artistic pieces of literature to be produced. He displays that his characters do not typically come with preplanned life stories beforehand, but rather life stories that come into being at the instant it s inscribed. Another useful piece of advice is making sure that the lifestyles one does construct for their characters lean towards being more realistic and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... • 5. Experimental Study On Strength And Workability Of Cement... EXPERIMENTAL STUDY ON STRENGTH AND WORKABILITY OF CEMENT MATERIALS USING MAGNESIUM SILICATE HYDRATE BINDER SYSTEM H. M. Tran, A. Scott 1,2University of Canterbury, Christchurch, New Zealand There has been increasing studies on magnesium silicate hydrate binder system as an eco cement and its potential use for nuclear waste immobilization. The cementing properties and workability of cement paste and mortar using magnesium silicate hydrate binder were examined by compressive strength, flow test and scanning electron microscopy. The binder composition was proposed based on stoichiometric ratio. The results showed that magnesium silicate hydrate binder exhibits very high water demand due to containing high microfine content of amorphous silica (silica fume). However, it is possible to produce workable mixes at normal water to binder ratio (w/cm=0.40 and below) by use of polycarboxylate based superplasticizer. Crushed quartz with smooth texture and particle size coarser than magnesium and silica fume was used as fillers to form ternary system. Use of crushed quartz fillers contributes to water reduction and improves packing density, hence increases strength of magnesium silicate hydrate binder system. Mortar samples of the binder containing 40% magnesium oxide, 40% silica fume (Mg/Si molar ratio = 1.50) and 20% crushed quartz fillers resulted in encouraging compressive strength of up to 70 MPa. • 6. Application Room For Breast Imaging When I entered the medical field over twenty years ago, at the front desk of the radiology department were file cabinets which contained notecards listing the imaging studies performed on each patient. If a patient had previous imaging, we would go to the film file room to retrieve the folder from the rolling storage units. In these heavy folders, along with the films, is also where we would find the typed reports associated with those old exams. After the radiologist compared new studies with the old and dictated a report onto a small cassette tape, the transcriptionist would type the report from the recording and a copy of the report stapled to the paper order for the exam performed was added to the folder. Copies of the reports were filed in medical records and sent to the ordering provider. At the end of each day, all film folders were returned to the file room for storage. In my current practice, imaging orders are entered in the patient s electronic chart in the Epic computer system. When a patient arrives for breast imaging, the relevant medical history is reviewed and updated in the Magview system. Previous images are retrieved from PACS and the current digital study is compared on high resolution computer monitors. With a few mouse clicks in Magview, the radiologist generates a report from the patient history and current findings. In 1810, Lachlan Macquarie became the Governor of New South Wales creating tremendous impact for social and economic development. The two movies of the week, It s a Wonderful Life by Frank Capra and American Beauty by Sam Mendes are a perfect portrayal of the American values in a positive and a negative way as I will explain in my discussion. Both movies got the idea of the Horatio alger myth, which is the American dream that everybody by hard work and determination can be successful and make it to the top to money and fame. Success in both movies is portrayed differently for example in It s a Wonderful Life success was not the money and fame and the typical hollywood portrayal of success, but family and homeland, which are related to the german idea of heimat, which is the value of home. It is so much more than real life (Wilde, 89). The novel, The Picture of Dorian Gray, by Oscar Wilde, portrays that one s appearance does not always match their soul. Wilde conveys this message through the manner in which a person behaves, in what they do, and through their looks. The kind manner in which Dorian acts, really deceives everyone. Although, this is false because no one knows what Dorian had just done, which was killing Basil. They are all being fooled by his looks. Furthermore, to relate back to this situation, after Dorian commits this murder, certainly no one looking at [him] that night could have believed that he passed through a tragedy. Those finely shaped fingers could never have clutched a knife for sin, nor those smiling lips have cried out on God and goodness (192). This really emphasizes that Dorian possibly committed the biggest sin there is in life, but because of his good looks, no one would be able to realize what he did. Another technique involves cutting scenes into short shots like in Battleship Potemkin. These techniques are used to show off new film styles, to indirectly tell the audience something, or to show off the amazing abilities of the actors. In Buster Keaton s Sherlock Jr. (1924), there were many different techniques used throughout the film. One of these techniques used is long take. Performance is evaluated, and information is provided to employees that enables them to reflect on their performance and develop plans. The 360 degree approach allows a wider range of people to evaluate and give feedback on an employee s performance. A manager might conduct a self appraisal, as well as receive feedback from peers, subordinates, superiors, and even customers and clients. Some advantages of 360 degree appraisal are that employees can get more than one perspective, and that people who work closely with the employee on a day to day basis can give feedback on overall performance, not just once a month or once a year. It is also a useful technique for meeting customer needs. It is sometimes easy for members within an organization to lose sight of the customers perspectives, and 360 degree appraisal brings the customers viewpoints into the larger picture. Some disadvantages include the possibility of spiteful evaluations from disgruntled subordinates, especially if evaluations are anonymous, coerced positive evaluations from intimidated employees, or misguided evaluations from employees who are not knowledgeable enough about the job they are evaluating. Poverty itself is defined as, the state of being poor (Merriam Webster). According to Sara S. McLanahan, of Princeton University, In the United States, poverty is defined as not having enough income to pay for basic needs, such as food, clothing and shelter. Poverty is a family attribute. In other words, if a family is classified as poor, all the members of that family are also poor (McLanahan, n.d.). The U.S. Census Bureau, in 2013 shows, there were 45.3 million people in poverty just in the United States (U.S Census Bureau, 2013). From those living in poverty, in the same year, the ratio of the female poverty rate to the male poverty rate was 1.2 women were 20 percent more likely to be poor than men (Mykyta, 2013, p. 2). Also, of all people categorized as in poverty in 2011, approximately 56 percent were women (Mykyta, 2013, p. 2). • 25. Descriptive Essay On Guitar Music For my favorite instrument, I chose the guitar. Many people across the globe are familiar with the sounds of the guitar. This chordophone, with such a diverse sound, has been showcased in our favorite songs and bands for decades. As familiar as we are with the sound, how familiar are we the history, manufacturers, artists, composers, and its popularity in a traditional orchestra? First, I will discuss the history of the guitar; when it started, the miraculous evolution, and the manufacturers that took the industry by storm. Although there are many theories, the history is hazy as to exactly where the first known guitar came from prior to the 16th century. According to the book A Concise History of the Classic Guitar by Wade Graham, Hittite stone carvings in Turkey; dated 1300 BC, eludes to the possibility of a similar instrument, as well as mentions in the old testament of long necked lutes in Mesopotamia. In Greek mythology; Fourth Homeric Hymn, mentions the use of a stringed instrument made of cow gut and turtle carcass. History becomes a lot clearer around the 16th century, when printed literature became available. According to acousticmusic the Baroque period is when the guitar really began to gain popularity, and was commonly used to accompany vocalists. Guitar music began to grow and evolve; the Classical period lasting from 1730 1820, and the Romantic period of 1815 1910 gained more popularity and diversity and was soon known worldwide. Other ... Quentin then asked why she wanted to borrow the car, she then responded saying she had to do things and go to the store. So they soon got into the car and drove off to the store. Margo needed: Vaseline, six pack Mountain Dew, one dozen Tulips, one bottle of water, tissues, and one can of blue spray paint. The reason Margo needed that stuff was because she was trying to get revenge on her friends and ex boyfriend. Why?, Because he was cheating on her with another girl and her friends knew all along and they didn t even think of telling Margo that he was cheating on her. I think the theme of this book is, to get revenge on people for not telling you bad things so later on they won t hurt you, like in this case Margo s ex boyfriend. I think this is the theme because if Margo s friends have told her sooner, she wouldn t of been doing this to all her friends and her ex boyfriend. The conflict is mostly Man Vs. Society like as Quentin tries to solve the clues she left and finding her. It s also Man Vs. Society as Quentin is trying to find Margo because she disappeared and he feels guilty. Released in 1994 by Paramount Pictures, Forrest Gump tells the story of a Southern, mentally challenged man named Forrest Gump who experiences many tribulations in his life, such as having a low IQ of 75 and wearing braces on his leg as a child. Throughout the plot of the film, Forrest adheres to a signature phrase coined by his mother, Life was like a box of chocolates. You never know what you re gonna get. His willingness allows him to participate in some of the most iconic American events in the 1960s and 1970s. • 29. The Digestive Enzyme Amylase The digestive enzyme amylase was analysed in two different species of gastropod (the herbivorous Turbo smaragdus and the carnivorous Cominella adspersa), in order to assess whether diet influences digestive enzyme activity. This was determined by preparing a tissue homogenate from the digestive gland of each of the species and comparing their measured absorbance to that of a standard curve that reflected the relationship between absorbance and enzyme units. Amylase activity (in units of enzyme per gram) was significantly higher in the herbivorous species than in the carnivorous species, yet there was wide disparity in activity within the species indicating a degree of plasticity in the enzyme s activity. The difference between T. smaragdus and C. adspersa does, however, indicate that the activity of amylase follows a pattern influenced by diet in these species. Introduction Most animals possess digestive enzymes that allow them to digest the food they consume. There is, however, variation between species in the activity of individual enzymes (Chan, et al. 2004; Chakrabati, et al. 1995), and this can indicate feeding ecology in animals. For instance, Kuz mina (1996) found that certain digestive enzymes were correlated with diet composition: amylase activities were lowest in carnivorous species of fish and highest in herbivores. Hence, the physiological requirements to live as a carnivore or herbivore certainly differ between families. Not only is this effect apparent in ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

We were getting nowhere when Tristan says well we can play fugitive. None of us had ever played it or even heard of such a game. He explained it was a game where we have two people in a car trying to find the fugitives the fugitives start at one end of the town and the cops would start at the other. There would be a designated place where if you made it without being captured you won the game. So we decided Lincoln was too big to play it so we headed to our hometown of Seward. We arrived at the ballfields and broke into four couples. Sara and Austin were the cops and the rest of us were fugitives. They got in the burgandy van and drove to the other side of town. All of my classes balance between those two, being challenging at times but also being simple. I, like every other student was enrolled into a World History class. In our storyboard we presented steam trains, steam boats from the Industrial Revolution and how the invention of the steam engine bettered but also damaged the world. Terrain classification using polarimetric synthetic aperture radar (POLSAR) imagery has been a very active research field over recent years. Because of support vector s excellent learning performance, it has become a research hot spot in the field of machine learning. In this paper, we firstly evaluate and compare different features for classifying polarimetric SAR imagery and then we will describe two SVM methods: Normal represents the one without feature selection and weighted represents with optimal multi feature selection. Obviously, the weighted SVM returns a sparse set of features and employs less SV s than normal. However, the performance of weighted SVM is no worse and even better than the performance of normal one. The excellent recognition rates achieved in experiments indicate that advanced (weighted) SVM is well suited for SAR image classification. The good performance of the proposed methods is illustrated in three challenging remote sensing ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Managed care conglomerates provide health coverage for increasing numbers of Americans. Many critics question whether these businesses provide care dutifully. At the very least, the present managed care system requires health care providers and recipients to reexamine established principles underling physician patient interaction. Unlike fee for service reimbursement which was normative previous to managed care, HMO s usually pay doctors and hospitals massive sums up front. These payments are arranged per diem, by capitation, or sometimes by fixed salary. Many critics of managed care believe that these compensation packages are immoral. What Health Care Is Now In order to ascertain the merit of managed health care, ethical presuppositions guiding our health care system require consideration. In the United States, four main principles undergird the way health care is practiced. These principles are: beneficence, nommaleficence, autonomy and justice. Beneficence is the obligation of health care providers to render help to people in need. Just as health care workers are called to provide care, they also have a duty to do no harm. This principle is commonly called nonmaleficence. At times, the possibility of doing good may result in injury. Therefore, the principle of beneficence and nonmaleficence do not always concur. Thirdly, the principle of autonomy allows patients to make choices regarding their health care. In other words, health care providers should allow patients to make the final decision regarding their treatment plan. Finally, justice refers to the ethical concept of treating everyone in a ...
