The Gargoyle
There exists no power as inexplicable as that of love. Love cannot be described in a traditional
fashion; it is something that must be experienced in order for one to truly grasp its full enormity. It
is the one emotion that can lead human beings to perform acts they are not usually capable of and
to make sacrifices with no thought of the outcome or repercussions. Though loveis full of
unanswered questions and indescribable emotions, one of the most mystifying aspects of love is its
timeless nature. Love is the one emotion, unlike superficial sentiments such as lust or jealousy,
which can survive for years, or even generations. In the novel The Gargoyle, the author, Andrew
Davidson, explores the idea of eternal love between two people,... Show more content on

He is left with the decision of letting Marianne be free from her 700 year entrapment on earth, or
sticking with sanity and not letting her carry through with her insane intentions. When all is
said and done, the reader is left with two questions: Was Marianne simply crazy or was she
schizophrenic? or was she telling the truth and the love between her and this man did and will
always continue to exist? The book ends with the reader having to come to a conclusion on their
own. The way Davidson uses imagery and intricacy to reveal Marianne s past life through her
stories will engulf one into the novel and make one feel like they are truly in the century in
question. As Marianne tells her stories, the emotion from her and the man pours off the pages
and the reader is all but helpless to surrender to feeling sympathy and fret for the characters. The
flashbacks are so seamlessly inserted into the text that the reader will sometimes lose track of
which world he or she is in, the modern one, or the 14th century. Davidson also considers
historical continuity in the stories that are told, and because of this the reader will not only be lost
in the story, but also gain a wealth of knowledge about ancient religion, forgotten traditions, and
origin of literature from all of Davidson s

Visualization And Simulation
Computer and Networking Visualization and Simulation (CANVAS) is a Cybersecurity annual
event in which students compete to learn and describe the vulnerabilities in a pretend system
situation. The 6th Anniversary was held at Regis University s Denver Tech Center on April 1, 2011.
The students were provide with the essentials to explore the computer generated network for

Utilization Of Fiber Reinforced Composites
Utilization of fiber reinforced composites for gaining importance to derive more advantages such as
manufacturing process flexibility, high strength to weight ratio. Due to extensive growth
applications of composites, the machining of composites was preferred where the closed
dimensional tolerances maintained in the case of the composites mating with the other components.
The present work aims at identify influenced optimum milling process parameters required to
achieve the good surface quality along the machined surface with minimum damage. Consequently
the work indeed the comparison discussions on the machined surface generated with different tool
signatures of two fluted specially designed carbide tipped mill tool and four fluted solid carbide
mill tool. In this regard the experimentations were conducted with varied milling process
parameters and the results were thoroughly evaluated and analyzed with origin interface graphs and
scanning electron micro (SEM) graphs to understand post machined surface textures.
Key words: cutting process parameters, GFRP composite laminates, compression moulding
technique, machining, solid carbide end mill tool and specially designed carbide tipped mill tool,
SEM graphs and Universal milling machine.

Analysis Of Lean Production Delivery System
Executive summary The aim of this report is to carry out the in depth analysis of Lean
production delivery system. Firstly the history of LPDS is discussed followed by its principles,
theory, processes and tools. The differences and similarities between current project management
systems and LPDS are observed. Observations are also made on the strengths and weaknesses of
both the systems. How both the systems provide an end value to the customers is also explained.
Introduction to Lean Production Delivery System Initially the manufacturing companies around
the world focused on the output and carried out the production process where everyone worked
on a single product and then moved to the other product which was time consuming. The
manufacturing companies could not meet the demands as time taken to produce is high. Henry
Ford of the Ford car manufacturing company introduced assembly line system and mass
produced cars as the demand for cars at that point of time was high. This drastically reduced time
to produce them. He hired people and trained them to specialize in a single field. Thus different
people worked on different fields according to their specializations which improved the efficiency
and speed of production. In the early 1900 s Toyota Production System (TPS) of Japan tried to use
the same method but was not successful as the market demands were different. It then introduced
Lean production system which focuses solely in providing greater value to the customers and

Analysis Of Rebecca J. Donatelle s Enhance Your Body Image
Most people in today s society are not pleased with their image, whether it is physically or how
they form their character. In Enhance Your Body Image (2015) Rebecca J. Donatelle opens her
essay with When you look in the mirror, do you like what you see? If you feel disappointed,
frustrated, or even angry like Ali, you re not alone. She continues with a study depicting 80
percent of women are dissatisfied with their appearance (p.339). This does not only mean physical
appearance; Santiago Quintana in The Space In Between (2015) talks about how he did not belong
in his social environment because resulting in him being bullied. A person s values are molded by

Enhancing Your Body Image(2015) discusses the impact popular culture has on women strive to
have Twiggy s body and men hope to be the tough guy like Clint Eastwood (p.340). People are
willing to alter their appearance physically; for example, people try to lose weight or change their
personality by playing sports or instruments to find the sense of belonging. Society has a fascination
of trying to belong within a social group.
Finally, family is a major vital for someone because it allows them to be supported, cared for, and
a leading example to follow. Santiago Quintana in The Space In Between never refers towards his
family impact which makes one ponder if he had a supportive family or if he remained distant
from them through his changing times. On the other hand, Enhancing Your Body Image has a
section referring to family support. It informs the reader about how when girls are going through
puberty with supportive fathers they are more likely to be happy with their body image; but
fathers with negative attitudes tend to have more depressed daughters who develop an eating
disorder (p.342). Family support is crucial to have because it allows one to have confidence and of
themselves.
Ultimately the most important aspect to have is a positive self image. Enhance Your Body Image

Advertisement Of Skyy Vodka
The Appeal to Female Dominance: Skyy Vodka The advertisement is specifically directed
towards women in the way that it appeals to what they believe Skyy Vodka can give them. In the
advertisement there is a woman in a black dress leaning back eating olives with a martini glass
between her fingers. On the floor is the Skyy vodka bottle and a man in a suit between her arm
and body who seems to be passed out with his arms spread apart with a tie covering his eyes. The
foreground shows the man womanis in her apartment, while the background is red and in the
upper left hand corner of the page it says #18 She Wins. The first thing the ad demonstrates is
empowered women who are in control of their sexuality and can get what they want in a
relationship. The next thing the Skyy Vodka appeals to is power this is obvious because of the
body language, clothes, red setting and title. The other thing it appeals to is wealth from which is
obvious based on the quality of their surroundings and clothes. The advertisement appeals to women
by showing that by using Skyy Vodka that women can refute the societal standards of being a
subordinate through having a confident dominance.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In the advertisement both models are positioned suggestively on the floor. The man who is on his
back and the woman who has her arm stretched over him and her body touching his side. The tie
that is tied around the man s eyes, rumpled suit and messy hair is also suggestive to what has
happened before this scene. While the ad clearly portrays the female as sexually dominant, it is
appealing to women by suggesting that they do not even need men for sexual satisfaction. In fact,
the advertisement clearly shows that the woman is completely self absorbed in her own indulgence

Who Is To Blame For Neil s Suicide
Boys, you must strive to find your own voice, because the longer you wait to begin, the less
likely you are to find it at all. Thoreau said, Most men lead lives of quiet desperation. Don t be
resigned to that. Break out! Dead Poets Society is a movie that brings up much thought relating
towards the astounding English teacher, who s beliefs are shunned by those sceptical of his
teachings, due to the suicide of a beloved student at the private school he once taught at. The
English teacher, Mr. John Keating, was and was not to blame for the student s death. Mr. Keating
might have been somewhat responsible for the death of Neil Perry, the student, because he was a
teacher with his own methods of teaching. I always thought the idea of education... Show more

Keating is definitely not responsible for Neil s own suicide, for Keating himself is not
physically liable for Neil. Mr. Keating does not kill Neil; Neil takes his own life. Neil did not
want to let people see him as a conformant to his father, he just wants to be an actor, but to his
dismay he knew in reality it was not going to be. Mr. Keating tells Neil to stand up to his father
and Neil does so by performing in the play; he meant no harm to any of the boys. I just talked to
my father. He s making me quit the play at Henley Hall. Acting s everything to me. I But he
doesn t know! He I can see his point; we re not a rich family, like Charlie s. We But he s planning
the rest of my life for me, and I He s never asked me what I want! says Neil. Mr. Keating says,
Have you ever told your father what you just told me? About your passion for acting? You ever
showed him that?...Then you re acting for him, too. You re playing the part of the dutiful son.
Now, I know this sounds impossible, but you have to talk to him. You have to show him who
you are, what your heart is! All Mr. Keating wants to do is to teach them the life lesson of the
urge of someone to make the most of the present time and give little thought to the future. Neil s
future was all mapped out, yet he makes the best of it in his eyes. Neil s suicide can be depicted
through a quote of Mr. Keating, This is a battle, a war, and the casualties could be your hearts and

Military Trade Patterns
U.S. Military Engagement And Trade Patterns. Why is trade and war happening at the same
time? There are many theories that try to explain this events happening at the same time and
place. Although, these are all theories the most compelling one is aggressive negotiation. This
theory explains the trading during war exported from the U.S to all over the world. It explains in
detail why trade was going on during war, benefits to our nation with the export and import of
textiles , it helped U.S troops defeat the Barbary pirates. Trade during war has been happening
since early times dating way back in history. This happens because nations often disagree on
trading, also the war between Barbary pirates. Due to this disagreement and inconvenient hold back
due to the pirates, both nations become rigid yet still want trade. Next, both nations start forcing

Yet , and of course, one nation gets greater benefits than the rest. U.S is a big and rich nation big
part of it is due to trading. As it can be seen, U.S is in war while trading, yet pirate attacks were a
huge setback for America costing te 20% of America s budget which was a huge amount of
money to spend on the pirates. In Fact most of their trading occurs while being in war. This is
because the U.S always wants to be the nation that benefits the most. In the long run this desire
creates problems and leads to issues among nations involved in this bias trade. Above all, this
taboo event benefits the U.S army greatly. While U.S trading with nations occurs, the U.S gets an
advantage by controlling some of the trading routes and supplies affecting that particular nation
causing weakness in their army due to attacks from Barbary pirates. Amongst other strategies,
trading during war is a great advantage and one of many reasons trading occurs while war is in
progress. Furthermore, at some point trading agreements do not get settled as desired leading to

Selcting an Approach for a Qualitative Research Plan Essay
Selecting an Approach for a Qualitative Research Plan
Creswell (2013) contends that we need to identify our approach to qualitative inquiry in order to
present it as a sophisticated study, to offer it as a specific type so that reviewers can properly
assess it, and...to offer some way of organizing ideas that can be grounded in the scholarly literature
of qualitative research (p. 69). Although I believe all three arguments cited by the author are
important, this week s readings and discussion emphasized the third reason in particular. Indeed,
reviewing the five approaches provided me with ideas regarding how to investigate and explore the
topic. Although I am still struggling with some of the details and aspects, a rough framework is ...

Through interviews and extensive data analysis the phenomenological study will aim to
summarize what the individuals have experienced and how they have experienced it to arrive at
the essence of the issue under investigation (Moustakas, 1994 as cited by Creswell, 2013, p. 79).
Given the issue, transcendental phenomenology appears to be a desirable approach to gain a better
understanding of the issue due to bracketing and its aim at perceiving a phenomenon new, fresh,
and for the first time (Creswell, 2013, p. 80).
Conducting a case study appears equally appropriate. Since case studies consist of qualitative
approaches in which the investigator explores a real life, contemporary bounded system or
multiple systems over time, through detailed, in depth data collection involving multiple sources
of information, and reports a case description and case themes one could emphasize the changes in
democratic participation as well as the motivators (Creswell, 2013, p. 97). Furthermore, case
studies provide a wide array of approaches, including both quantitative and qualitative elements as
well as explanatory, exploratory, and descriptive directions that could be used to investigate the
proposed question (Creswell, 2013). Case selection would be purposeful, probably focusing on one
to five NGOs engaging with the government to influence public policy and the people involved
with the same.

The Blind Side Movie
The Blind Side is based on a true story of Baltimore Ravens offensive tackle Michael Oher. The
movie was shot in 2009 and is rated pg 13 for brief violence, drug and sexual references. The
movie faithfully represents the real life experience of the famed football star; it did not fail to
raise eyebrows from both movie fans and critics. John Lee Hancock wrote and directed a box
office hit that will have you crying with laughter and reacting with sorrow to every twist and turn
along the way. Bring some Kleenex and get a box of popcorn and enjoy this heart filled true story
of Michael Oherand his family. The Blind Side is about Michael Oher s life and how he came
from being homeless to living with the Tuohy family. It shows how Michael overcame
adversities from not being able to read and coming from a drug infested neighborhood to
learning how to be with a family who cared and would do anything to help him succeed.
Watching the movie, one could see how Oher was able to rise above poverty and adversity and
become left tackle for the Baltimore Ravens. John Hancock did an awesome job at choosing
scenes to include in the film. The most relevant ones were picked and though it may only be a
handful compared to what really happened, the scenes were very representative of the story. The
film skillfully plays on an audience s emotions, but that s what this sort of movie does, and director
John Hancock shows a sure hand when it comes to careful manipulation. He rarely goes

a Diagnostic Medical Sonographer program can be completed between one to two years after

Analysis Of Frankenstein And Nabokov s The Real Life Of...
Both Shelley s Frankenstein and Nabokov s The Real Life of Sebastian Knight investigate
problems of reality, strongly suggesting that real knowledge of someone cannot exist or is at best
inaccessible. However, while Nabokov and Frankenstein suggest that one may never be able to
know the real life of another person, perhaps one s failed attempts to perfectly capture that reality
reflectionsor interpretations of reality, that is function as the most meaningful reality for the

metaphors he uses to express his lack of access to the realSebastian. Although V. could describe
the way he [Sebastian Knight] walked, or laughed, or sneezed, these facts would be no more than
sundry bits of cinema film cut away by scissors and having nothing in common with the essential

babies are kept in nurturing centers until they are grown enough to be put into their school

A wrong relationship is one which involves the immoral gratification of a bad man, and a good
relationship is one which involves the morally sound gratification of a good man (Waterfield 17).
The desire of a bad man is one who leads primarily for physical features, and in the end leaving
who he may be with on to something new, thus having a temporary relationship or feeling with a
companion. Psyche which will never lose its charm, more than for the body, which must inevitably
do so (Plato s Symposium, Rosen 85). I believe this particular statement to be true when searching
for love because through time, your body has the possibility of becoming weak, while on the
other hand it may be easier to keep your mind healthy and fresh. The mind can have memories

can remain youthful, while the body has no choice but to age. The common lover looks for

youthful in some sense. Those who put the love of the body first may just keep moving on to the
next one, and may not find that special person to be fully happy and settle down with, although

Toyota s Method For Tracking Machine Breakdown
The Ford Motor Company is an automotive manufacturer, like Toyota, that has delays in the
production process caused by machine failures. Machine breakdowns within the manufacturing
plant, caused delays and stoppages that lead to increased production times and decreased customer
satisfaction (Sampson, 2004). In 1995, Ford initiated a program that effectively reduced the amount
of production time by establishing a step by step process to repair specific machinebreakdowns
efficiently (Xu, 2013). When a breakdown occurs the program lists the solutions on how to repair
the problem based on previous machines with similar issues. This provides corrective actions that
are quickly, efficiently, and reliably identified if the breakdown has occurred in the past.
Ford s method for tracking machine breakdown includes information about previous problems and
the processes that were taken to solve the issue (Sampson, 2004). This provides information
quickly on how to solve the problem for any given breakdown that occurs during production. Once
the solution to the problem is discovered, it can be repaired immediately. When a breakdown and
the solution are listed, the program also shows every machine containing the characteristic affected
by the solution (Sampson, 2004). This allows the solutions to be better utilized to improve the
efficiency and reliability of similar machines because it can be used to prevent future breakdowns.
For example, Ford found a valve to continually fail because

Insane Asylum In The 1800s
LIVING IN AN ANSANE ASYLUM
What was it like to live in an insane asylum in the 1800 s?
The first colonists blamed mental illness on witchcraft and demonic possession. The mentally ill
were often imprisoned or sent to poorhouses. If they didn t go to one of those they were left
untreated at their home. Conditions in the prisons were awful. In 1841, a lady named Dorothea Dix
volunteered to teach a Sunday school class for the female inmates. She was outraged with the
conditions of the prisons that she witnessed. Dix then went on to be a renowned advocate for the
mentally ill. She urged more humane treatment based care than what was given to the mentally ill
in the prisons. In 1847, she urged that the Illinois legislature to provide an appropriate ... Show more

But other patients had reasons to be in the asylum. On Tennessee Genealogical Society web site
you can read why mentally healthy women went to the insane asylums. Some of the women
were put in the asylum because they questioned the authority of their husbands or they were not
good housewives. Any woman was at risk of being put in an insane hospital if they did either
one of those. Also, if women got to old the husband could have her put in a hospital and take a
younger wife. Once a woman was committed, it was as if she died, an obituary was published,
usually. A landlord could have a person committed for not paying rent. A boss could have an
employee committed if they were slow or a bad employee. People could be committed if they
were poor, being an alcoholic, a person with a short fuse, or anyone who deviated from the
normal thing society thought was right. These could go for men or women, but most were filled
with women. Also, children who acted out or had mental or physical disabilities were also placed
in mental asylums. A blind child or a child with a speech problem would be locked away for the
rest of their life just because they had a birth

Ocean Overfishing Essay
1.0 Introduction
Overfishing has led to the destruction of ecosystems and resulting in great amount of reduction of
stocks in fish and marine mammals from the 11th century onwards (Roberts, 2009). Ocean
overfishing is defined as catching fish from sea at rates too high thus lead to depletion of the stock
of fish. As today, there are almost 90 percent of fish population have been depleted by humans
worldwide because fish is considered as a sources of food. In 2010, 148 million tonnes of fish from
fisheries and aquaculture were used by the world and 86 percent of which was used as food for
people (Katz, 2012). Besides, according to the non profit group New Economics Foundation,
Ireland, Spain, and Sweden were the worst offenders. Based on a

Early-Life Disadvantages
The literature on environmental factors and their effect on health and life expectancy is
extensive. Studies of mortality have found that childhood health and socioeconomic context are
important predictors, often regardless of adult experiences (Motez and Hayward 2014). One
study examines whether early life disadvantages both shorten lives and increase the number of
years lived with functional impairment (Motez and Hayward 2014). These early life
disadvantages could be health, socio economic, or environmental related. Within levels of
educational accomplishment, adults from underprivileged childhoods lived fewer years, and
spent a greater portion of life impaired compared with adults from advantaged childhoods (Motez
and Hayward 2014). Higher levels of education did not improve the health consequences of
disadvantaged childhoods. However, because education had a better impact on health than
childhood socioeconomic setting, adults from disadvantaged childhoods who achieved high
education levels often had a length of life that was similar to those from privileged childhoods
who achieved low education levels. (Motez and Hayward 2014). Recent research has identified a
trend that supports the research of Motez and Hayward. Historically, there has been a penalty
associated with urban places, also known as the rural mortality penalty (James 2014). However, in
recent decades, a reversal has occurred (James 2014). Beginning in the mid 1980s, rural and urban
mortality rates

Analysis of Chapters 1 through 8 of Great Expectations
Plot and Setting The plot starts out with a little boy name Phillip Pirrip. It is a first person
narrative about a boy back in the nineteenth century. The first eight chapters deal mostly with Pip
s childhood years. It also deals with who Pip is, and his family. In the beginning of the story Pip
introduces himself, and introduces his dead parents. He is in the graveyard, and then a scary
looking man comes up. The man threatens him. The plot of the story I think is good because it deals
a lot with the struggles in a child. He has no one to turn to. The author really helped us relate to the
story.

Miss Havisham secretly wants Estella to break Pip s heart. She is a very obscure lady. Biddy is a
character that cares very much for Pip. She understands Pip more than Pip does. Pip doesn t like
Biddy, because she is to common. She is the better girl though.
Personal Response So far I really enjoy the book. Charles Dickens really pulls me into the book.
He uses great figurative language that makes you feel sorry for a character. The people in this
book seem so innocent and harmless. Well, except the guy that threatened Pip. They all also
seem to live hard lives. They don t have all the benefits that we have today. They have to scrounge
around for stuff we never would have to scrounge around for. What is really neat about it, is that
they get an enjoyment out of life. They are not well off either. I can t wait to read on further into
Charles Dickens novel.
Vocabulary So far in this novel there is no vocabulary that really comes to mind. I though I
would use this section to talk about figurative language. Charles Dickens uses a lot of figurative
language. He says that when Pip goes up into his room, he is in the dark. Literally that means he
does not have a candle, so therefore he is in the dark. Figuratively we can interpret it in many
ways. One way is to say that Pip isn t a very smart kid. He is and ignorant person. When someone
says that someone is in the dark, they usually mean that they are naГЇve. Later on in the story, Pip

The Populism Movement
The election of 1892, the year former President Grover Cleveland was reelected after defeating
President Benjamin Harrison. President Grover Cleveland lost the electoral vote in 1888 against
Harrison, but in 1892 Cleveland made a comeback. Even though President Cleveland and President
Harrison represented the two main parties, a third party had risen in popularity during this time.
The People Party received popularity in this election, making them the first third party to receive
electoral votes since the 1860 Presidential Race. The populismmovement started as way for
farmers to fight back against dropping crop prices, forced debt, and economic abuse received by
capitalistic corporations. Populism in other words is the movement made by farmer in order to
receive economic, political, and social equality in the reconstructing country. Farmers during this
time were in debt due to the investments on machinery but did not produce enough wealth. Surely
farmers had huge field but due to inflation of crop prices, farmers were not treated in the same
economic or social class as those in corporations. In the election in 1892 the Peoples Party

Examples Of Leadership In The Movie Invictus
Leadership at the Movies: Invictus and 5 Leadership Practices
December 20, 2009 by Beverley Simpson
Morgan Freeman and Clint Eastwood have created another very special movie now playing across
North America. Invictus is the story of Nelson Mandela s early days as President of South Africa,
and particularly how he viewed the country s Rugby team, the Springboks, and an upcoming World
Cup event to be held in South Africa, as an opportunity to bring the country together.
The year is 1995. Mandela (Freeman) is in his first term as President. He recognizes the
tremendous challenges facing his government in a land torn apart by apartheid. Racial tensions are
at an all time high, people are struggling with the effects of crippling unemployment, and a new

Pienaar is invited to meet the President and arrives at Government House with trepidation, uncertain
of the reason for the meeting. Mandela s personal style, his warmth, the way he treats everyone
around him with great respect and appreciation completely charms Pienaar who leaves with the
realization that something very significant has just happened to him. During their brief but
meaningful time together Mandela has skillfully Inspired a Shared Vision about the importance and
meaning of a Springboks win to South Africa.
The title of the movie Invictus comes from the Latin meaning Unconquered. We are led to
believe that Mandela had a poem written on a scrap of paper in his prison cell while he was
incarcerated. In the movie, Mandela gives the poem to the team captain Pienaar, before the start
of the World Cup. At one point in the story the Springboks are touring Robbin Island and Pienaar
spends a quiet few minutes in Mandela s old cell contemplating the kind of moral courage it would
take to spend 27 years there. He is

Industrial Revolutions During Europe During The Industrial...
Industrial Revolution in Europe
Before the industrial revolution, Europe was mostly dominated by farmers but as the industrial
revolution progressed this changed dramatically. Industrial revolution had a significant impact in
the process by making new demands that shaped the way of life through increased competition and
technological innovation. Generally, it was a historical period that sparked in a stroke a number
numerous changes in the economic, social and political dimensions. It is considered as a period
that made the biggest impact on 19th century Europe considering that it was the period that the
countries realized significant progress that shaped their economies in great details with nationalism
and imperialism as well being direct impacts of the revolution.
Not many could have anticipated the rapid rise of the European industry that was realized from
industrial revolution. As a note, dominance in wage labor, rapid growth of cities and evolution of
industries mostly from steel and iron factories were perhaps the greatest changes that were
experienced. In economic changes, manifestations were evident through the increased rates of
immigration to better places, rapid growth of cities as centers of trade and changes in the type of
work and working structures. Socially, reorganization of family was experienced as well as changes
in ownership of jobs, rural to urban migration as well as where and when to work (Lynn et al. 413

Analysis Of Waylon Smithers s A Twisted And Heartless...
In the case study, Waylon Smithers is becoming increasing concerned with the behaviours of his
employer Mr Burns. Waylon Smithers explains how Mr Burns is becoming too difficult for him
to handle and suspects that Mr Burns may suffer from a personality disorder. Burns is described
as a heartless, greedy and exceptionally ugly that makes Ebeneezer Scrooge seem downright
lovely. The case study explains how at a young age, Burns was sent to live with his Grandfather, a
twisted and heartless billionaire and suggests that this may have had a long lasting impact on the
behaviour of Mr Burns.
Evidence from the case study suggests that Waylon Smithers is correct in thinking that Mr Burns
may have a personality disorder, more specifically; it appears that Mr. Burns is suffering from
psychopathy. Psychopathy is an antisocial personality disorder, previously known as both a
psychopathic and sociopathic personality disorder. This disorder is more frequently diagnosed
in males than it is in females. Buss (1966) described psychopathy as a personality disorder in
which there is no capacity for love or true friendship; a lack of insight, guilt or shame; an
inability to control impulses; unreliability in fulfilling obligations; pathological lying; thrill
seeking; disregard for the conventions we hold in society and antisocial behaviour (as cited in
Patrick, 2005). Burns is described as a self interested individual who has no regard for the welfare

Vladimir Lenin And The Bolshevik Revolution
According to the History.com Staff, The October Revolution began on November 6 and 7, 1917
(or October 24 and 25 on the Julian calendar). (Russian Revolution ). The October Revolution has
also been called the Bolshevik Revolution since the Bolshevik Party played a crucial role in the
revolution. The leader of the Bolshevik Party, Vladimir Leninwas a big supporter of Karl Marx.
Another Marxist who leads this revolution was Leon Trotsky. In an article by the History.com
Staff, Lenin had created an, almost, bloodless coup d Г©tat against the provisional government. (
Russian Revolution ). The Bolshevik revolution started when, Alexander Kerensky, rather than
follow an order. On October 24th, Kerensky ordered troops that were loyal, to act against the
Bolshevik. Encyclopædia Britannica tells us that, Kerensky was a socialist revolutionary who
served as head of the Russian Provisional Government. ( Aleksandr Kerensky ).
According to History.com Staff, The provisional government had created a group of leaders from
Russia s bourgeois capitalist class. Lenin would alternatively call for a Soviet state that would be
controlled directly by councils of workers, peasants, and soldiers. ( Russian Revolution ). Both
decided that the Soviets was going to be a useful instrument in the next revolution. They didn t want
the Soviets to have all the power until they could control them. In the book, Rise and fall of
Communism 2009, Archie Brown shows us that, On 12 October, according to the old calendar,
Trotsky took command of the Military Revolutionary Committee of the Petrograd Soviet and on
25 October...the Bolsheviks seized power in Petrograd (Brown 51). Insurrection was to start, but
there were complications with the date set. In the book, The History of the Russian Revolution
1960, Leon Trotsky says, At a session of the Petrograd Soviet on the 18th, Trotsky, in answer to a
question raised by the enemy, declared that the Soviet had not set a date for an insurrection, in the
coming days, but that if it became necessary to set one, the workers and soldiers would come out
as one man (Trotsky 162). There were forty thousand workers in the army of Petrograd.

Life after death is a concept that humanity has been trying to understand for millennia. It is an area
where science, religion, and philosophy intersect, with conflicting yet powerful views and
evidence that has formed and changed views in different sections of society. For religious

What Is The Theme Of The Squid And The Whale
The Squid and the Whale
A Critical Analysis
Written and directed by Noah Baumbach, this film is set in Brooklyn, New York City, 1986.
Some critics claim that it is almost autobiographical of Baumbach s life and the painful and
confusing experience he went through when his own parents were in the process of divorce. The
most obvious central theme of the movie is divorce and the crisis it causes within the family as each
member is attempting to rearrange themselves, both inside their heads and in the outside world.
Looking deeper, the film can also be seen as a coming of age story of two young boys, one on the
verge of his teen years and the other on the verge of young adulthood. What makes this film
special is just how painfully real it is, when it comes to the portrayal of human interactions on
screen as well as how each shot is captured. Baumbach, through his direction was able to capture the
reality of each situation by using hand held ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Analysis Of Vasari s The Multivalent Themes And...
The multivalent themes and leitmotifs with which Vasari regales his readers the major and minor
artists, the diligent and the delinquent, the inventive and imitative, the mentors and apprentices,
the fathers and sons, and the mothers, wives and daughters bring the history of Italian
Renaissance art to life in his monumental text. In order for us to understand the purpose of the
preface pages, it is important first to consider the purpose of Vasari s text as a whole. Vasari was
himself a notable artist and architect, however he made it his eventual duty to recognise the
importance of artists in the historical timeline. More significantly, he would endeavour to
distinguish between the good, the better and the best and how their stylistic methods are
indicative of an artist s ability. In his prefaces he relays to his readers the immense body of work
he tasked himself with, how artists were gifted or strived for their art, were innovators or followers,
and how their perception as craftsmen or academics changed, all this in an attempt to educate those
who wanted to learn about the story of art. Vasari divides his Vite into three parts spanning a period
from Cimabue s trecento Italo byzantine style to his present day cinquecento where he places
particular emphasis on Michelangelo. In this time we can observe a shift from a spiritual almost
detached emotion to something more aesthetically substantial, something Vasari surmises as finally
reaching the summit of perfection.

Hill Attack Schurz Summary
In Schurz s report he talked a decent amount on the treatment of slaves. He was talking about how
the terror against any colored person was definitely still going on. Schurz talks about how black
people were being; kidnapped, maimed, killed, and have been disappearing (M.P. Johnson pg.4).
The treatment was not going to get better because the southern whites have an ingrained feeling
that the blacks at large belong to the withes at large... (M.P. Johnson pg.5). He s pretty much saying
that the black peopleare still being looked down upon by the whites in the south. This ties in with
how Hill and many of his family were being treated. For example, Hill talks about how one night,
people came knocking at the door of his brother. These people were no other than the K.K.K.
They were looking for him and bludgeoned his sister in law to get the information about Hill s
whereabouts. When the woman couldn t handle the beating, she told them where Hill was. They

The Shape of Practical Theology
Book Report: The Shape of Practical Theology
In The Shape of Practical Theology: Empowering Ministry with Theological Praxis, Ray Anderson
attempts what he considers a new approach to modern Christianity. Anderson believes that the
modern church is plagued by a significant divide between theology and practical Christianity. Many
churches approach these two aspects of religion as if they are separate, rather the practical sides of
Christianity lacking. Therefore, Anderson s goal in the book is to relate modern practical
Christianity directly to theology. He uses theology to tackle some of the major social issues that
impact on modern practicing Christians including: preaching, worship, family, therapy, burnout,
relationships, social justice, ethics, and homosexuality. Instead of treating these issues as if they
are separate from theology, Anderson demonstrates how theology directly interacts with each of
these issues. Anderson uses a three prong approach to explain his theological approach to modern
Christianity. The first prong is the shape of practical theology. The goal of this section is not to
merely describe the skills and methods that people use to engage in theology, but to look at
practical theology as a meaningful way to grow one s relationship with God and one s understanding
of Scripture. In this section, Anderson introduces the concept of practical theology, talks about the
discipline of practical theology, a Trinitarian model of practical theology, looking

rooms too hot and they can t be controlled on how hot they get. The school also doesn t have any
air conditioning. This makes the kids too uncomfortable to be able to work as well as they
could. In a survey asking students at shattuck; How often do you travel between classrooms that
are extremely different temperatures? . It was recorded that 45% of students have a change in
difference one to two times per day. While 36% says three to four times and 13% say five or
more classes. Sam lefler says, I love wearing sweatshirts anytime of the year and when it gets too

How To Become A Real Tattoo Artist
Are you ready to become a real tattoo artist?
For some people, learning how to tattoo is a life long dream. For others, it s a newer fascination
that may have started when they got their own first tattoos. No matter what the spark for wanting to
learn how to tattoo, there are five essential steps that each person can follow on the path to
becoming a pro.
Step One: Passion and Ability
Above all other things, there are two major factors that go into determining whether or not you have
what it takes to become a real tattoo artist. Sure, the other steps outlined here are very important,
but if you don t have both passion and ability, you are unlikely to succeed.
That s not to say that someone can t figure out how to tattoo and even find a job. ... Show more

You may have to wait for a long period of time or even relocate to another city to learn how to
tattoo from a qualified artist whom you respect. It is hard not to get discouraged, but if you have
the passion and ability already mentioned above, then you ve got a much better chance at taking
this big step toward becoming a professional.
Step Five: Learn Everything You Can
Your apprenticeship will likely not begin with you learning how to tattoo right away. Instead, you
may be asked to perform many of the duties you did when you were working in a tattoo shop
before you became an apprentice. You will likely clean up the shop and will probably help with the
sterilization of equipment.
As time goes by, however, the artist you re working with will offer you more and more
responsibilities and will teach you methods and techniques that will get you on your way.
There are other ways to increase your knowledge, too. While you can t necessarily learn how to
tattoo by just reading a book, you can certainly use tattoo books and tattoo magazines to build on
the knowledge you already have. Even the simple act of examining someone else s tattoos can help
you learn more about technique, color theory, flow and design, and

The Confederate Flag, By Winston Churchill
As Winston Churchill stated, The flags of the Confederate States of America were very important
and a matter of great pride to those citizens living in the confederacy. They are also a matter of
great pride for their descendants as part of their heritage and history, but in present day, the
American people are claiming the meaning of the confederate flag is hate and discrimination. In
South Carolina, the confederate flag was taken down and placed in a museum after a heated
debate stemming from a mass shooting of nine black churchgoers in a historical Charleston
church during bible study. The shooter, Dylann Roof, was a white supremacist. A photograph of
Roof emerged showing him holding a confederate flag which fueled the political flag debate.
The confederate flag is at the center of the controversy over racism. Although, it was first created
as an official flag of confederacy, the confederate flag has changed into what is now either a
symbol of Southern heritage and pride or slavery and racism by Americans. It is time to put this
flag in a museum to be honored by those it means something to and no longer stand as a reminder
of the division our country once suffered, so we can move on as a nation, united.
A total of five confederate flags have been fashioned, three official flags of the confederacy and
two battle flags, but the one causing the most debate is the Navy Jack flag from a Tennessee battle
ship during the Civil War. This is a rectangular flag displaying a red

Essay on Christopher Columbus
America s national memory is filled with icons and symbols, avatars of deeply held, yet imperfectly
understood, beliefs. The role of history in the iconography of the United States is pervasive, yet the
facts behind the fiction are somehow lost in an amorphous haze of patriotism and perceived
national identity. Christopher Columbus, as a heroand symbol of the first order in America, is an
important figure in this pantheon of American myth. His status, not unlike most American icons, is
representative not of his own accomplishments, but the self perception of the society which raised
him to his pedestal in the American gallery of heroism.
This gallery was not in place at the birth of the political nation. America, as a young republic, ...

People had even more reason to think of themselves in distinctive American terms. (Noble, 250)
Americans, searching for a history and a hero, discovered Columbus. A rash of poetic histories
and references to Columbus emerge in the years following the Revolution: Philip Freneau s The
Pictures of Columbus, Joel Barlow s 1787 The Vision of Columbus, and Phillis Wheatley s 1775
innovation, the poetic device Columbia as a symbol of both Columbus and America. King s
College of New York changed its name in 1792 to Columbia, and the new capitol in Washington was
subtitled District of Columbia, in deference to those who would name the country after Columbus.
Noble observes that,
It is not hard to understand the appeal of Columbus as a totem for the new republic and the former
subjects of George III. Columbus had found the way of escape from Old World tyranny. He was the
solitary individual who challenged the unknown sea, as triumphant Americans contemplated the
dangers and promise of their own wilderness frontier...as a consequence of his vision and audacity,
there was now a land free from kings, a vast continent for new beginnings. In Columbus the new
nation without its own history and mythology found a hero from the distant past, one seemingly
free of any taint from association with European colonial powers. The Columbus symbolism gave
America an instant mythology and a unique place in history, and their adoption of Columbus
magnified his own

The Physical Pattern Of The Urban Tissue Of Shahjahanabad
The river was an important part of the city, access to which was provided through ghats (wide
flights of steps along the banks) such as Nigambodh ghat and Raj ghat. The Yamuna was an artery
along which river borne traffic travelled. It was a bathing area, particularly for Hindus who
considered its waters sacred. It was also a recreational space where fairs, swimming competitions,
kite flying, took place.
Shahjahanabad, like any other living city is constantly changing and evolving. The physical pattern
of the urban tissue of Shahjahanabad was completed by the 19th century. In the 1850s map
available, the urban morphology depicted is the same as can be seen today. However, events in
history have left their mark on this planned city, changing it over time. This is especially true for
the Red Fort, Chandni chowk, etc.
When the British first moved into Delhi, they established the area in north Shahjahanabad as the
centre of administrative power, adding several new colonial buildings, both religious and
institutional in nature or simply adding to or coopting older buildings. This area has perhaps seen
the bulk of this transformation. The earliest church in Delhi, the St. James Church, built by Colonel
James Skinner was in this area and has altered very little since its construction in 1836. The only
other Anglican church of that era, the St. Stephen s Church near the Fatehpuri Mosque was built
only much later, in about 1867. The church has recently been restored and its roof

Cybercrime And The World Of Cybercrime Essay
In today s world, people have become very used to using high technology in the 21st century
such as computers, smartphones, and recently, smart watches. This technology is so common
that many people rely on their devices just to perform some basic tasks for some of the most
common jobs. In fact, these devices also help people stay in contact with one another. While this
new age of technology has brought along many great innovations and made the lives of many
people a lot easier, it has also opened up the world of cybercrime. Cybercrime is particularly
dangerous because it is significantly more difficult for a criminal to get caught due to the fact that
they may be all the way on the other side of the globe. The most common cybercrimes that people
will hear of is identity theft and credit card scams because those crimes are among the most difficult
to solve and the criminals usually have multiple victims. The worst part is that there are not enough
people studying computerscience or any other science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM)
major let alone graduating with said major. People want to have a sense of securityand keep their
most sensitive information private which would mean making computers more secure and teaching
people about the basics of online safety. There have been many innovations in cybersecurity to
better protect people s information by encryption. Encryption is the process of encoding
information in such a way that only the authorized user can

Technological Advancements During The First World War
A nation s ability to fight a modern war is as good as its technological ability. An English inventor
who was of great importance in the invention of the turbojet said these words. I partly agree with
him, as technology is the basis of most aspects of war. If a nation were to fight a war without the
use of technology it would fight with sticks and stones. Technological innovations in the First
World War (WW1) have led to much of the technology that we have today, ranging form the various
weapons modern armies are equipped with to the radios used for communication. If something is
significant then it has an important influence on a thing, such as an event, that will happen in the
future. In this way, did the technological innovations in WW1, such as gas, communications and the
machine gun, not only have an effect on the outcome of the war but also have an effect on how our
world is shaped today?
One technological innovation of the war was the use of poison gases, such as mustard gas. The use
of gas in WW1 was initially of huge importance as it was thought to be the weapon to break the
stalemate. During the war, Gas was a horrific weapon, which had the capability to inflict life
endangering injuries, but as the war drew on, the technology for preventing its effects, such as gas
masks, were invented and improved. Gas in the latter parts of the war was not released from
canisters but was fired in gas filled artillery shells, which led to more accurate and devastating

  • 2. The Gargoyle There exists no power as inexplicable as that of love. Love cannot be described in a traditional fashion; it is something that must be experienced in order for one to truly grasp its full enormity. It is the one emotion that can lead human beings to perform acts they are not usually capable of and to make sacrifices with no thought of the outcome or repercussions. Though loveis full of unanswered questions and indescribable emotions, one of the most mystifying aspects of love is its timeless nature. Love is the one emotion, unlike superficial sentiments such as lust or jealousy, which can survive for years, or even generations. In the novel The Gargoyle, the author, Andrew Davidson, explores the idea of eternal love between two people,... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... He is left with the decision of letting Marianne be free from her 700 year entrapment on earth, or sticking with sanity and not letting her carry through with her insane intentions. When all is said and done, the reader is left with two questions: Was Marianne simply crazy or was she schizophrenic? or was she telling the truth and the love between her and this man did and will always continue to exist? The book ends with the reader having to come to a conclusion on their own. The way Davidson uses imagery and intricacy to reveal Marianne s past life through her stories will engulf one into the novel and make one feel like they are truly in the century in question. As Marianne tells her stories, the emotion from her and the man pours off the pages and the reader is all but helpless to surrender to feeling sympathy and fret for the characters. The flashbacks are so seamlessly inserted into the text that the reader will sometimes lose track of which world he or she is in, the modern one, or the 14th century. Davidson also considers historical continuity in the stories that are told, and because of this the reader will not only be lost in the story, but also gain a wealth of knowledge about ancient religion, forgotten traditions, and origin of literature from all of Davidson s ... • 5. Analysis Of Lean Production Delivery System Executive summary The aim of this report is to carry out the in depth analysis of Lean production delivery system. Firstly the history of LPDS is discussed followed by its principles, theory, processes and tools. The differences and similarities between current project management systems and LPDS are observed. Observations are also made on the strengths and weaknesses of both the systems. How both the systems provide an end value to the customers is also explained. Introduction to Lean Production Delivery System Initially the manufacturing companies around the world focused on the output and carried out the production process where everyone worked on a single product and then moved to the other product which was time consuming. The manufacturing companies could not meet the demands as time taken to produce is high. Henry Ford of the Ford car manufacturing company introduced assembly line system and mass produced cars as the demand for cars at that point of time was high. This drastically reduced time to produce them. He hired people and trained them to specialize in a single field. Thus different people worked on different fields according to their specializations which improved the efficiency and speed of production. In the early 1900 s Toyota Production System (TPS) of Japan tried to use the same method but was not successful as the market demands were different. It then introduced Lean production system which focuses solely in providing greater value to the customers and ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Given the issue, transcendental phenomenology appears to be a desirable approach to gain a better understanding of the issue due to bracketing and its aim at perceiving a phenomenon new, fresh, and for the first time (Creswell, 2013, p. 80). Conducting a case study appears equally appropriate. Since case studies consist of qualitative approaches in which the investigator explores a real life, contemporary bounded system or multiple systems over time, through detailed, in depth data collection involving multiple sources of information, and reports a case description and case themes one could emphasize the changes in democratic participation as well as the motivators (Creswell, 2013, p. 97). Machine breakdowns within the manufacturing plant, caused delays and stoppages that lead to increased production times and decreased customer satisfaction (Sampson, 2004). In 1995, Ford initiated a program that effectively reduced the amount of production time by establishing a step by step process to repair specific machinebreakdowns efficiently (Xu, 2013). When a breakdown occurs the program lists the solutions on how to repair the problem based on previous machines with similar issues. This provides corrective actions that are quickly, efficiently, and reliably identified if the breakdown has occurred in the past. Ford s method for tracking machine breakdown includes information about previous problems and the processes that were taken to solve the issue (Sampson, 2004). This provides information quickly on how to solve the problem for any given breakdown that occurs during production. Once the solution to the problem is discovered, it can be repaired immediately. When a breakdown and the solution are listed, the program also shows every machine containing the characteristic affected by the solution (Sampson, 2004). • 22. Insane Asylum In The 1800s LIVING IN AN ANSANE ASYLUM What was it like to live in an insane asylum in the 1800 s? The first colonists blamed mental illness on witchcraft and demonic possession. The mentally ill were often imprisoned or sent to poorhouses. If they didn t go to one of those they were left untreated at their home. Conditions in the prisons were awful. In 1841, a lady named Dorothea Dix volunteered to teach a Sunday school class for the female inmates. She was outraged with the conditions of the prisons that she witnessed. Dix then went on to be a renowned advocate for the mentally ill. She urged more humane treatment based care than what was given to the mentally ill in the prisons. On Tennessee Genealogical Society web site you can read why mentally healthy women went to the insane asylums. Some of the women were put in the asylum because they questioned the authority of their husbands or they were not good housewives. Any woman was at risk of being put in an insane hospital if they did either one of those. Also, if women got to old the husband could have her put in a hospital and take a younger wife. Once a woman was committed, it was as if she died, an obituary was published, usually. A landlord could have a person committed for not paying rent. A boss could have an employee committed if they were slow or a bad employee. People could be committed if they were poor, being an alcoholic, a person with a short fuse, or anyone who deviated from the normal thing society thought was right. These could go for men or women, but most were filled with women. Also, children who acted out or had mental or physical disabilities were also placed in mental asylums. • 24. Early-Life Disadvantages The literature on environmental factors and their effect on health and life expectancy is extensive. Studies of mortality have found that childhood health and socioeconomic context are important predictors, often regardless of adult experiences (Motez and Hayward 2014). One study examines whether early life disadvantages both shorten lives and increase the number of years lived with functional impairment (Motez and Hayward 2014). These early life disadvantages could be health, socio economic, or environmental related. Within levels of educational accomplishment, adults from underprivileged childhoods lived fewer years, and spent a greater portion of life impaired compared with adults from advantaged childhoods (Motez and Hayward 2014). Higher levels of education did not improve the health consequences of disadvantaged childhoods. However, because education had a better impact on health than childhood socioeconomic setting, adults from disadvantaged childhoods who achieved high education levels often had a length of life that was similar to those from privileged childhoods who achieved low education levels. (Motez and Hayward 2014). Recent research has identified a trend that supports the research of Motez and Hayward. Historically, there has been a penalty associated with urban places, also known as the rural mortality penalty (James 2014). However, in recent decades, a reversal has occurred (James 2014). It is a first person narrative about a boy back in the nineteenth century. The first eight chapters deal mostly with Pip s childhood years. It also deals with who Pip is, and his family. In the beginning of the story Pip introduces himself, and introduces his dead parents. He is in the graveyard, and then a scary looking man comes up. The man threatens him. The plot of the story I think is good because it deals a lot with the struggles in a child. He has no one to turn to. The author really helped us relate to the story. Personal Response So far I really enjoy the book. Charles Dickens really pulls me into the book. He uses great figurative language that makes you feel sorry for a character. The people in this book seem so innocent and harmless. Well, except the guy that threatened Pip. They all also seem to live hard lives. They don t have all the benefits that we have today. They have to scrounge around for stuff we never would have to scrounge around for. What is really neat about it, is that they get an enjoyment out of life. They are not well off either. I can t wait to read on further into Charles Dickens novel. Vocabulary So far in this novel there is no vocabulary that really comes to mind. I though I would use this section to talk about figurative language. Charles Dickens uses a lot of figurative language. He says that when Pip goes up into his room, he is in the dark. Literally that means he does not have a candle, so therefore he is in the dark. Figuratively we can interpret it in many ways. One way is to say that Pip isn t a very smart kid. He is and ignorant person. When someone says that someone is in the dark, they usually mean that they are naГЇve. Later on in the story, Pip ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

In an article by the History.com Staff, Lenin had created an, almost, bloodless coup d Г©tat against the provisional government. ( Russian Revolution ). The Bolshevik revolution started when, Alexander Kerensky, rather than follow an order. On October 24th, Kerensky ordered troops that were loyal, to act against the Bolshevik. The most obvious central theme of the movie is divorce and the crisis it causes within the family as each member is attempting to rearrange themselves, both inside their heads and in the outside world. The multivalent themes and leitmotifs with which Vasari regales his readers the major and minor artists, the diligent and the delinquent, the inventive and imitative, the mentors and apprentices, the fathers and sons, and the mothers, wives and daughters bring the history of Italian Renaissance art to life in his monumental text. In order for us to understand the purpose of the preface pages, it is important first to consider the purpose of Vasari s text as a whole. Vasari was himself a notable artist and architect, however he made it his eventual duty to recognise the importance of artists in the historical timeline. More significantly, he would endeavour to distinguish between the good, the better and the best and how their stylistic methods are indicative of an artist s ability. In his prefaces he relays to his readers the immense body of work he tasked himself with, how artists were gifted or strived for their art, were innovators or followers, and how their perception as craftsmen or academics changed, all this in an attempt to educate those who wanted to learn about the story of art. Vasari divides his Vite into three parts spanning a period from Cimabue s trecento Italo byzantine style to his present day cinquecento where he places particular emphasis on Michelangelo. In this time we can observe a shift from a spiritual almost detached emotion to something more aesthetically substantial, something Vasari surmises as finally reaching the summit of perfection. ... The Shape of Practical Theology Book Report: The Shape of Practical Theology In The Shape of Practical Theology: Empowering Ministry with Theological Praxis, Ray Anderson attempts what he considers a new approach to modern Christianity. Anderson believes that the modern church is plagued by a significant divide between theology and practical Christianity. Many churches approach these two aspects of religion as if they are separate, rather the practical sides of Christianity lacking. Therefore, Anderson s goal in the book is to relate modern practical Christianity directly to theology. He uses theology to tackle some of the major social issues that impact on modern practicing Christians including: preaching, worship, family, therapy, burnout, relationships, social justice, ethics, and homosexuality. Instead of treating these issues as if they are separate from theology, Anderson demonstrates how theology directly interacts with each of these issues. Anderson uses a three prong approach to explain his theological approach to modern Christianity. The first prong is the shape of practical theology. The goal of this section is not to merely describe the skills and methods that people use to engage in theology, but to look at practical theology as a meaningful way to grow one s relationship with God and one s understanding of Scripture. • 43. The Confederate Flag, By Winston Churchill As Winston Churchill stated, The flags of the Confederate States of America were very important and a matter of great pride to those citizens living in the confederacy. They are also a matter of great pride for their descendants as part of their heritage and history, but in present day, the American people are claiming the meaning of the confederate flag is hate and discrimination. In South Carolina, the confederate flag was taken down and placed in a museum after a heated debate stemming from a mass shooting of nine black churchgoers in a historical Charleston church during bible study. The shooter, Dylann Roof, was a white supremacist. A photograph of Roof emerged showing him holding a confederate flag which fueled the political flag debate. The confederate flag is at the center of the controversy over racism. Although, it was first created as an official flag of confederacy, the confederate flag has changed into what is now either a symbol of Southern heritage and pride or slavery and racism by Americans. It is time to put this flag in a museum to be honored by those it means something to and no longer stand as a reminder of the division our country once suffered, so we can move on as a nation, united. A total of five confederate flags have been fashioned, three official flags of the confederacy and two battle flags, but the one causing the most debate is the Navy Jack flag from a Tennessee battle ship during the Civil War. This is a rectangular flag displaying a red ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 44. Essay on Christopher Columbus America s national memory is filled with icons and symbols, avatars of deeply held, yet imperfectly understood, beliefs. The role of history in the iconography of the United States is pervasive, yet the facts behind the fiction are somehow lost in an amorphous haze of patriotism and perceived national identity. Christopher Columbus, as a heroand symbol of the first order in America, is an important figure in this pantheon of American myth. His status, not unlike most American icons, is representative not of his own accomplishments, but the self perception of the society which raised him to his pedestal in the American gallery of heroism. This gallery was not in place at the birth of the political nation. America, as a young republic, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... People had even more reason to think of themselves in distinctive American terms. (Noble, 250) Americans, searching for a history and a hero, discovered Columbus. A rash of poetic histories and references to Columbus emerge in the years following the Revolution: Philip Freneau s The Pictures of Columbus, Joel Barlow s 1787 The Vision of Columbus, and Phillis Wheatley s 1775 innovation, the poetic device Columbia as a symbol of both Columbus and America. King s College of New York changed its name in 1792 to Columbia, and the new capitol in Washington was subtitled District of Columbia, in deference to those who would name the country after Columbus. Noble observes that, It is not hard to understand the appeal of Columbus as a totem for the new republic and the former subjects of George III. Columbus had found the way of escape from Old World tyranny. He was the solitary individual who challenged the unknown sea, as triumphant Americans contemplated the dangers and promise of their own wilderness frontier...as a consequence of his vision and audacity, there was now a land free from kings, a vast continent for new beginnings. In Columbus the new nation without its own history and mythology found a hero from the distant past, one seemingly free of any taint from association with European colonial powers. The Columbus symbolism gave America an instant mythology and a unique place in history, and their adoption of Columbus magnified his own ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 45. The Physical Pattern Of The Urban Tissue Of Shahjahanabad The river was an important part of the city, access to which was provided through ghats (wide flights of steps along the banks) such as Nigambodh ghat and Raj ghat. The Yamuna was an artery along which river borne traffic travelled. It was a bathing area, particularly for Hindus who considered its waters sacred. It was also a recreational space where fairs, swimming competitions, kite flying, took place. Shahjahanabad, like any other living city is constantly changing and evolving. The physical pattern of the urban tissue of Shahjahanabad was completed by the 19th century. In the 1850s map available, the urban morphology depicted is the same as can be seen today. However, events in history have left their mark on this planned city, changing it over time. This is especially true for the Red Fort, Chandni chowk, etc. When the British first moved into Delhi, they established the area in north Shahjahanabad as the centre of administrative power, adding several new colonial buildings, both religious and institutional in nature or simply adding to or coopting older buildings. This area has perhaps seen the bulk of this transformation. The earliest church in Delhi, the St. James Church, built by Colonel James Skinner was in this area and has altered very little since its construction in 1836. The only other Anglican church of that era, the St. Stephen s Church near the Fatehpuri Mosque was built only much later, in about 1867. The church has recently been restored and its roof ... • 46. Cybercrime And The World Of Cybercrime Essay In today s world, people have become very used to using high technology in the 21st century such as computers, smartphones, and recently, smart watches. This technology is so common that many people rely on their devices just to perform some basic tasks for some of the most common jobs. In fact, these devices also help people stay in contact with one another. While this new age of technology has brought along many great innovations and made the lives of many people a lot easier, it has also opened up the world of cybercrime. Cybercrime is particularly dangerous because it is significantly more difficult for a criminal to get caught due to the fact that they may be all the way on the other side of the globe. The most common cybercrimes that people will hear of is identity theft and credit card scams because those crimes are among the most difficult to solve and the criminals usually have multiple victims. The worst part is that there are not enough people studying computerscience or any other science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM) major let alone graduating with said major. People want to have a sense of securityand keep their most sensitive information private which would mean making computers more secure and teaching people about the basics of online safety. There have been many innovations in cybersecurity to better protect people s information by encryption. Encryption is the process of encoding information in such a way that only the authorized user can ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 47. Technological Advancements During The First World War A nation s ability to fight a modern war is as good as its technological ability. An English inventor who was of great importance in the invention of the turbojet said these words. I partly agree with him, as technology is the basis of most aspects of war. If a nation were to fight a war without the use of technology it would fight with sticks and stones. Technological innovations in the First World War (WW1) have led to much of the technology that we have today, ranging form the various weapons modern armies are equipped with to the radios used for communication. If something is significant then it has an important influence on a thing, such as an event, that will happen in the future. In this way, did the technological innovations in WW1, such as gas, communications and the machine gun, not only have an effect on the outcome of the war but also have an effect on how our world is shaped today? One technological innovation of the war was the use of poison gases, such as mustard gas. The use of gas in WW1 was initially of huge importance as it was thought to be the weapon to break the stalemate. During the war, Gas was a horrific weapon, which had the capability to inflict life endangering injuries, but as the war drew on, the technology for preventing its effects, such as gas masks, were invented and improved. Gas in the latter parts of the war was not released from canisters but was fired in gas filled artillery shells, which led to more accurate and devastating ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
