Comparison Between Pale Horse, Pale Rider By Katherine Ann Porter And The Snows of Kilimanjaro
By Ernest Hemingway
This paper is going to discuss and analyze fully two short American fiction stories which are Pale
horse, Pale Rider by Katherine Ann Porter and The Snows of Kilimanjaro by Ernest Hemingway. By
reading the bibliographies of both these authors, one finds that Porter and Hemingway have met in a
certain period of their life, where they could have shared lots of ideas and agreed on lots of different
issues.
By the end of reading both stories, one notices that there are lots of similarities found in both stories.
One of the obviously noticed similarity is the autobiographical elements ... Show more content on

The author effectively uses the dream to foreshadow the evil and tragedy that will affect Miranda from
the world she lives in. after the dream the author moves the reader from the world of Miranda s
imagination to the real world by stating an indirect everyday thought But let me get a fine yawn first .
The dream world represents the real world.
On the other hand, in The Snows of Kilimanjaro the fantasy world and memories of Harry s past are
shown by an italic style of typed text, which can be easily determined.
Most of Harry s (the protagonist) memories are of his past as a writer and his love affairs. Harry lives
his life through his past, he regrets everything he done, he s mentally and physically ill. Harry is very
bitter towards the woman, his companion on the wild African safari, his remarks were very cruel and
harsh, for example you bitch, you rich bitch . Perhaps the inspiration of Harry s character came from
Hemingway who was misogynist himself. Harry blames his failure on everyone but he haven t got the
cpurage to face reality and blame himself, she shot very well this good, this rich bitch, this kindly

Essay about Curriculum design Inclusive Practices
Curriculum Design for inclusive Practice
In this assignment, I will be discussing what curriculum means, who and what factors can influence
and impact the design of curriculum. Also defining the main theories models and ideologies and how
they contribute to my curriculum, and how they can change various teaching methods. Concluding
with, proposed solutions to improve the curriculum within the Hospitality department.
Curriculum is hardly new in fact it dates way back to ancient Greece and the famous Aristotle s
(384BC 322BC) who was a Greek philosopher. A student of Plato came up with the categorisation of
knowledge, which I will be discussing later on in the commentary. So curriculum has been around for
years, but the way we understand ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Product Model This model is interested in the product of the curriculum: just what does it equip a
learner to do? Tanner and Tanner (1980) argue that this model has been the most dominant model of
the twentieth century. However CALLAHAN in the 1970 s with his instrumentalism ideology of
skilling the learner to be fit for work, stated
To the teacher, I would say that you must satisfy the parents and industry that what you are doing
meets the requirements and the needs of our children (TES Magazine, 11/10/1996) From the Rusken
College speech in 1976, a whole new approach to education was to be invented and from this came the
introduction of the craft based qualifications, his idea of the government putting money into education
and seeing very little return, made him concentrate on making people fit for work, in turn helping the
economy and paying the government back on their investment. This is the main model used in my
specialised curriculum. One of the attractions of this approach to curriculum theory is that it involves
detailed attention to what people need to know in order for it to work. Lesson plans are produced with
the main theme of by the end of the session the learner will

Effects Of Tyranny
The accumulation of all powers... in the same hands, whether of one, a few, or many (is) the very
definition of tyranny. In 1787, the Constitution was written in Philadelphia and due to the weaknesses
of the Articles of Confederation (the inability to enforce taxes and the fear of tyranny starting), James
Madison was worried about framing a new Constitutional and tyranny arising. The thought of one
group of people having more power than another worries people. Tyranny can be shown in many
different ways and it affects everyone. Tyranny of individual states and central government can be
presented with the people in the states being able to ignore taxes. This would cause chaos and the
government wouldn t have control over the people. The chief ... Show more content on

...the constant aim is to divide and arrange the several offices in such a manner as that they may be in
check on the other.... (The three branches) should not be so far separated as to have no constitutional
control over each other. Madison is trying to express the idea of the three branches being too far apart.
He thinks that constitutional control is going to come only when the branches are closer. Helping one
another out (checking each other) makes them equal, preventing tyranny. The legislature can check the
power of the chief executive by having Congress approve the president s nominations. The president
can check the power of the Supreme Court by nominating judges, and the Supreme Court checks the
Senate by declaring laws unconstitutional. The checks and balances system guarded against Tyranny
by making sure no government is more powerful than another. Each branch is needed to make the
government work because without one of the branches, the wouldn t be equality and the significance
of one branch tells a lot about how important all three branches are. The three branches check each
other for the power and

One Beat At a Time Essay
One Beat at a Time
When we think of cardio vascular diseases, we usually always associate them with the loss of a family
member or friend. Almost everyone knows of someone who is affected by these tragic diseases. Since
the ancient times, there have been clues left showing possible cardio vascular diseases within the
Egyptian families. The earliest proof of a cardio vascular disease is of a 3,500 year old Egyptian
mummy with a serious case of arthrosclerosis, which was identified via modern CT scan. During the
next few centuries little is known about cardio vascular diseases and the death rate subsequently is
low, until the turn of the Industrial age. Since this period of time cardio vascular diseases have hit hard

Premature atrial contractions are early additional beats that start in the atria and are usually innocuous
and usually don t require medical attention. Premature ventricular contractions are one of the most
prevailing arrhythmia where the heart will skip a beat due to stress, caffeine overindulgence, or
excessive exercise. Some people who have frequent contractions should seek medical attention, but if
it is irregular it is usually harmless. Atrial fibrillation is quite frequent which causes the atria to
contract out of rhythm. Atrial flutter is a more organized version of atrial fibrillation where it s caused
by one or many rapid circuits in the atria. Paroxysmal supraventricular tachycardia originates above
the ventricle and is known as a rapid heart rate. Accessory pathway tachycardias are a form of rapid
heart rate that is due to extra passageway between the ventricles and atria. AV nodal reentrant
tachycardia is another form of rapid heart rate that is caused through more than one passageway.
These can both be treated with special therapy or medication. Ventricular tachycardia is a hasty
heartbeat that begins in the ventricle section of the heart. This hasty beat prevents the heart from
attaining the right amount of blood to fill up, thus causing the body to receive much less blood than
usual. Ventricular fibrillations are inconsistent impulses from the ventricles

Statistics Purpose Statement
Statement of Purpose
Junru Xia
I first discovered my interest in statistics in my sophomore year at the University of California,
Berkeley. In a statistics lecture, the professor explained how statistics can be applied in real life by
giving an example that Amazon often promotes products by emailing its customers and recommending
products according to sophisticated analysis of customers search records, as well as their transaction
data. Previously having been immersed in the world of abstract statistics, I realized that in addition to
being an essential tool to confirm theories already proposed, data itself can lead to entirely new ideas.
The data patterns can be interpreted from many different perspectives, which triggered my eagerness
to explore the stories hidden in data and improve my understanding of the world through data analysis.
With a strong urge to enhance my quantitative foundation, I finished all my courses in mathematics
with high scores, and learned Python and Data Scientists Toolbox through Codecademy and ... Show

My job in the personal loan center was to assist in maintaining the database and generating
evaluations. One project which I was involved in was using personal credit scoring model to make a
risk forecast and detect bank fraud based on loan documentation in the database. During the project, I
realized that rather than just about complicated methods, statistics was about simplifying and making
sense. Sufficient data and in depth analysis can not only help companies make valuable decisions, but
also enable us to understand real life in a more direct and precise way. As the trend of information
explosion is inevitable, I am sure that the power of data will become increasingly overwhelming, and
the role of data analysis will be indispensable. Therefore, along with my goal to pursue graduate
studies in statistics, my desire to pursue a career in the field of data analysis was

Effects Of Globalisation On Asia
The impacts faced in Asia as a result of economic globalisation has resulted in a number of issues for
the region. The impacts concern the vast economic growth of nation states, the improvements of
technology, freer trade between countries and more jobs, but also the exploitation of labour and the
income inequality that features frequently throughout the region of Asia. Along with these impacts on
Asia, there are a number of benefits and disadvantages that have greatly affected the region.
Globalisation, in particular economic globalisation has had many impacts, both beneficial and
negative, on Asia. Economic globalisation refers to the integration of national economies into the
international economy through trade, foreign direct investment, capital flows, migration, and the
spread of technology (Potocki 2). Economic globalisation has seen many benefits for Asia as it allows
for freer trade between countries within Asia as well as worldwide to Western countries such as the
United States. Advancements in technology has been a major benefit to economic globalisations as it
decreases the costs of communication and transportation of goods, which is of great benefit for trading
between nations and connecting Asia and the rest of the world (Shangquan 1). Economic globalisation
has also allowed for products to be manufactured at a much lower cost as well as being sold for a
lower cost. This can be seen with the prices of computers reducing and only costing approximately

The Queen Of Air And Darkness Analysis
**The Queen of Air and Darkness, a novel written by T.H. White, mainly follows the lives of King
Arthur and Morgause, as well as those around them. King Arthur is beginning his reign after pulling a
sword of a stone and discovering he is the rightful king of England while Morgause is living a life of
selfishness in the Lothian territories with her four sons. In The Queen Of Air and Darkness, White
uses diction and tone to express the importance of devotion in the world through the Orkney boys
relationship with their mother, King Pellinore s love for Piggy, and Arthur s mission of making the
world a better place. Morgause pays minimal attention to her sons while also using their devotion
against them. Nevertheless, the Orkney boys are willing to spend their lives fighting against the
government of England, specifically Arthur. All of their lives Morgause has drilled into their minds
what she wants them to believe, especially the fact that her words are always true. A story that she tells
them often is the reason King Lot, the boys father, has gone away to fight against the Pendragons. She
explains the lineage of Arthur, and that it is the Orkney family s obligation to get revenge. Therefore,
when the boys hear her tell her favorite story (210), they consequently accept it as truth without a
second thought. For no other reason except that she once told them to hate the Pendragons, they are
willing to lose their father and spend their entire lives avenging their

Lassa Ward Book Report
I chose to read The Lassa Ward: One Man s Fight Against One of the World s Deadliest Diseases for
the AP Human Geography summer assignment. The Lassa Ward is authored by Ross I. Donaldson,
who received his doctor of medicine and master of public health degrees from the University of
California at Los Angeles. St. Martin s Press, headquartered in New York, NY, published the novel in
2009. Dr. Donaldson s memoir focuses on how he treated Lassa cases in Sierra Leone, in the midst of
an outbreak of the virus during the summer months of 2003. Through explanations of his surroundings
and the ward where he treated his patients, the book addresses the medical need of the region by
describing the primitive condition of medicine occurring in the third world country that is Sierra
Leone. Thus, The Lassa Ward effectively and captivatingly communicates the necessity encompassing
the current medical situation in Sierra Leone through its detailed descriptions and arguments regarding
the culture of the people living there and the region itself. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Donaldson strived to demonstrate that the demand for a revised medical system is a desideratum. The
current environment in Sierra Leone does not compare to that of the United States and other first
world countries due to the poor, conflict ridden culture and landscape. The medical equipment and
supplies that are available are dilapidated and sub par with that of what Dr. Donaldson encountered in
the United States. All of these descriptions that are given in the novel adeptly portrayed the
rudimentary conditions of the medical treatment available to the people of Sierra Leone, and how,
with proper structure and government support, the system could be improved

Blinded By the Light
Abstract: In this experiment we were provided a cereal box spectrometer to observe the emission lines
of noble gases and hydrogen. Based on the scale readings on the spectrometer and the Balmer Rydberg
formula, their wavelengths and percent error were able to be extrapolated. Based on the literature
values, the cereal box spectrometer proved its value as a decently accurate spectrometer.
Introduction: Every element and subsequent atom associated emits light; also know as electromagnetic
radiation, when in an excited state. Analyzing this emitted light can give insight to the makeup and

reading and colors were then recorded on table 1.1 which can be found below. These values where
then put into an excel spreadsheet and graph was formed (table 1.2). An equation was then
extrapolated from the data that would give the experimental wavelength (expt λ) values that will be
used for later values. The trend line for table 1.2 was established to see the relationship between
wavelength and scale readings.
Expt λ=a λ+b

Then, by measuring and calculating the emission lines in the hydrogen line spectrum, the data on table

formula.

Over The Fence By Emily Nye
2.2 Selfhood is Arab Identity Instead of presenting a static Arab American identity reliant on the past
and defined through preservation of cultural heritage, Nye suggests that what it means to be Arab
American is discovered by making sense of different experiences and cultural contexts. Nye s poetry
insists on selfhood as a process of becoming and discovery. The critic Wahju Kusumajanti ponders
that being both, an Arab and an American, does not indicate a state of being torn between two sides,
but can be a steady and helpful position from which one can see the two sides more clearly. Nye
inherits a sense of empowerment that permeates her work. She never feels fragmented because of her

Persuasive Essay On Being An Adult
When do you actually become an adult? There are legal terms that qualify someone as an adult, but
that doesn t necessarily mean that they act like one. I think being an adult means, being able to support
yourself; as in having a steady paying job, and most importantly being accountable to yourself. Being
able to make your own decisions without asking a parent or model figure first, is an example of having
an identity status of a moratorium. One with this type of mindset as a young adult, will weigh their
options and consider their values and what they believe themselves, whether it s their own thought
branched off of their parents guidance, or it is completely their own idea and they explore to see what
their views are. On the other hand, for some, they rely on their parents approval, they may have an
idea or opinion about a topic, but they will ask a parent or model figure in their life to seek guidance.
The young adult wants the security of having the approval of a decision and being told what to do and
pointed what direction to go towards. This is essentially making the decision for them. This type of
identity status if called foreclosure.
At a very young age, I was given the responsibility to take care of my youngest sister after school. I
had to help her with her homework, make dinner for us both and put her to bed some days; and on top
of that do my own homework and get my chores done. Both of my parents worked full time and I felt

How The Argument Supporting Two Cyprus States
Argument Supporting Two Cyprus States The two state solution of Cyprus has unofficially become the
status quo. There are various factors pushing for the establishment the divide of Cyprus. The largest
driving factor is the Turkish and Greek ethnic divide. The two ethnic groups remain distinct, which are
divided on linguistic, cultural, and religious lines (Meier, 457). The Greek Cypriots practice Greek
orthodox and Turkish Cypriots practice Islam. Furthermore, both groups refer to Greece or Turkey as

Furthermore, Britain with its colonial history of Cyprus has two significant military bases on Cyprus.
These two bases routinely are the important focal points to the Cyprus issue. The strategic location
creates a transition from the west to the east, with that it holds the balance of power in the eastern

Cyprus for military bases (Sakkas 123). By the end of 1960s, the Soviet Union and Cyprus were close
together via commercially, diplomatically, culturally, and in education. Soviet Union allowed
admission of Cypriots into universities (Sakkas 124). The Soviet Union sent official statements that
further foreign invasion into the island would invoke a Russian response (Sakkas 125). The Cypriot
government bought guns from Czechoslovakia and the Soviet Union to protect the ALEK control. In
1965, during the first Cyprus conflict the Soviet Union funneled over $70,000,000 worth of military
supplies to Cyprus. In 1973, Cyprus received 140,000 dollars from the Soviet Union to fund left wing

In recent years, web piracy or file sharing of proprietary material has gained abundant quality. it s a
subject that has endlessly sparked dialogue and has even received world attention. though on the

On the opposite hand, there ar people who support file sharing and claim that their actions ar simply

Utilitarianism And The Dehumanization Of The LGBT Community
Utilitarianism is an ethical theory that states that the best moral action is the one that produces the
greater amount of utility, or the most positivity. Utilitarianists recognize that the acceptance of
homosexual, bisexual, and trangendered individuals would result in an abundance of positive
outcomes such as: the acceptance of individuals, nondiscriminatory laws, desexualization of same sex
couples, reduced hate crimes, and the humanization of individuals who are humans. Individuals who
are given a platform in our government, society, and media outlets are spreading massive amounts of
anti gay propaganda, lies, misinformation, and bigotry to not only oppress and deprive the LGBT+

Davis Guggenheim Documentary Analysis
What are you grateful for? What matters most for you? Is it money, is it family? Have you thought
about education and its big role it plays to get you to a future you want and will like? In this well
written documentary directed by Davis Guggenheim, the question of the matter is the American
education system, and its backlash on poverty and areas of need. He follows a couple unlikely kids
and their struggle to get into a average school and how failure to just get into a school like this is the
downfall of someone s future career. This documentary relates so well to previous reads and watches
about the American education system. Involving speeches like Sir Ken Robinson and the book Re
reading America, in correlation with Guggenheim s piece of work. This portrayal of education depicts
harrowing stories of how some kids growing up in places where education is non existent and failure
is common. He uses an array of techniques to capture to attention of the audience and change their
perception of opinions. And he does this through the use of pathos, but in the work of that pathos he
builds it with the help of music and tone. These emotions certainly grab the audience s attention and
beliefs, and uses it to express the opinion and characteristic of the topic argument. Within
Guggenheim s excellent piece of work there are key components that give his artwork a more visual
and thorough meaning along with the story. To start off, Guggenheim s documentary was charismatic

A. Hydrolysis of Acid Derivatives
A.1. Acyl Halides and Acetic Anhydrides
One mL of water was placed in each two test tubes. The samples, acetyl chloride and acetic anhydride,
were added separately to the test tubes by placing ten drops of each sample. A warming effect was
noted from the reaction. The resulting mixtures were divided into two portions. To the first portion, an
amount of one mL of 2% silver nitrate (AgNO3) was added. The formation of precipitate was
observed. To the second portion, one mL of saturated sodium bicarbonate (NaHCO3) and the
evolution of gas was noted.
A. 2. Esters
To one mL of the sample, ethyl acetate, two mL of 25% sodium hydroxide (NaOH) was added. The
mouth of the test tube was covered with a marble and was heated in a boiling water bath for five
minutes. The mixture was neutralized with 10% HCl solution. The odor was observed with a wafting
motion.

Lord Of The Flies Identity Analysis
Philosophers from ancient Greece and Rome to modern scholars have contemplated what defines one
s identity. Everyone is a product of both their heredity and environment, and this is demonstrated in
modern texts and podcasts. Individuals have limited control on their environment, actions of others,
and genetics; however, memories and experiences influences how people behave and act. When
people are placed into a situation everyone responds in their own way, and one s past is a crucial part
of how an individual will respond in in new environment. For example, in Lord of the Flies, young
boys are placed on an island, and some choose to be assertive while others are passive. Anyone could
have risen up and take charge, despite this, only Ralph and Jack decide to stand up as leaders. These
two boys stood up, due their experiences in their past environments. Ralph has a father who is a naval
officer who most likely taught him strong leadership qualities.People are born into families that
establish principles and beliefs .For Jack, he is self entitled since he was the head choir boy because of
being gifted with a singing voice. People s past and abilities are able to form one s identity. Memories
and experiences are what make each individual unique and have their own identity. Ultimately human
nature will take control an individual s identity, and negative attributes will show though anyone s
personality. Additionally, In Lord of the Flies, all the boys lose their sanity and

Emily Dickinson s I Heard A Fly Buzz When I Died
The Surprising Elements of I heard a Fly Buzz When I Died In some instances within literature,
writers surprise readers by incorporating ideas that the reader may or may not expect. Within Emily
Dickinson s poem I heard a Fly Buzz When I Died , readers are introduced to a ghostly speaker that
discusses the scene of their deathbed. Readers are exposed to many surprises throughout various
aspects of the poem. One aspect of the poem that surprises readers is the relationship between the
speaker and the fly .The first surprise involved in this relationship, is the combined revelation of the
fly and the speaker s death. As the poem begins, the speaker says to readers, I heard a fly buzz when I
died (Dickinson, 1). After reading that the speaker heard the buzz of a fly, readers may expect the
death of the fly or more detail on the fly itself. However, the speaker hits readers by telling them that
they heard the buzzing at the moment of their own death. Dickinson is immediately telling readers that
her poem contains supernatural elements that link to the fly. This may come as a shock to readers,
since they may ponder the significance of the fly within the speaker s death, as it is not yet revealed by
the end of the poem s first line. The relationship between the speaker and the fly continues to be
surprising, as the speaker describes the fly as the power that controls their life (the gateway between
life and death). The speaker says: There interposed a Fly With

My Best Friend In My Life
Everyone has that best friend they believe they will have forever, they plan out their future together,
but that can all come crashing down. That is what happened with Jason James and I. Jason was once
my best friend, practically a brother, we did everything together. I was always there for him, in the
times when he needed someone the most. Jason James suffered from depression, like me. Because I
knew exactly what he was going through, we became close. But there was always something off about
our friendship. It was always about him. One day I got a text from Jason saying he needed to get out
of the house and just talk. I, of course, sprang to action. I picked him up and we got ice cream and
talked. I let him talk through what was going on, and gave him the advice he needed. Then a couple
days later I was having a rough day, and I just wanted someone to talk to, I texted Jason hoping he
could help. He said he would come over, and be with me. But when he got there all he did was talk
about him. Everything I would say he would turn it around and make it about him. Although this did
not happen all the time, it did most often. Jason James was a negative influence on my life because our
friendship was only about him, he blamed me for every problem he faced, and he never truly cared.
My friendship with Jason James was always centered around him. I was the one who was constantly

Analysis Of Moonlight By Barry Jenkins
Barry Jenkins Moonlight depicts the coming of age of a young black boy as he struggles with and
endures abuse for his sexuality, causing him to hide his internal conflicts. The life of the protagonist,
Chiron, is split into his three main stages of life, with each part focusing on the physical and emotional
abuse he endures due to his homosexual orientation. When the viewer first meets Chiron, he is
running from bullies. As he ages, the bullying follows him, causing him to harden and avoid
vulnerability in his adult life. Jenkins uses climactic scenes in Chiron s life to portray how prejudice
against black sexuality forces him to conceal his true identity. In Moonlight, Jenkins cinematic style
illustrates Chiron s public and private ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The scene culminates with the characters distancing themselves from both each other and the
audience. Rather than following the characters as they leave, the camera stays stable, leaving an empty
space on screen in their absence. This absence of a figure on screen in their house hints at Chiron s
lack of a home, a safe place to explore his individuality.
Jenkins lighting and sound are also essential to the portrayal of this scene as a key moment in Chiron s
struggle with his identity. These elements characterize Paula as an impeding obstacle to Chiron s self
discovery. Chiron s face here is highlighted, while his mother s face is covered in shadows. This
contrasts the two, indicating that the audience should be on Chiron s side and see the darkness within
Paula. Typically, mothers in films are basked in warm light, indicating their nurturing relationships
with their children. The shadows covering Paula s face, therefore, suggest that she is an absent mother
figure, which soils Chiron s natural maturation. Furthermore, no sound can be heard from Paula,
though the audience can read her lips and understand the nature of their conversation. Instead,
classical music is audible. The use of no sound further establishes Paula as an absent figure in Chiron
s life because she is seen, but not heard. Paula s body is basked in pink light until the end of the scene,
when the light fades to reveal bluish green walls. In this film, Jenkins uses the

A Country Churchyard By Thomas Gray
Have you ever wondered how people in churchyards feel like? In the poem Elegy Written in a Country
Churchyard by Thomas Gray, the poet speaks about the place they are at, which is the setting; he also
discusses how no matter how rich or poor you are, you will all die, unfortunate life of the villagers,
and his own epitaph. The poem includes various literary terms that support the different divisions of
thought. We complain about little stuff in life that we forget about the significance of cherishing the
ones we love. The first division of thought is the setting of the poem. The poet lets us know that it is
night time and the bells of death are ringing, setting a somber tone for the poem. He describes how he
was left alone in the darkness in line four And leaves the world to darkness and to me ; describing the
time of day. He uses alliteration in line seven exaggerating the beetles humming during silence. He
then uses onomatopoeia to describe the gentle sound made by the bells the sheep were wearing. He
suggests that the owl is affected by the darkness and somber mood of the people surrounding him
moping owl does to the moon complain (line 10). Using a metaphor, Gray compares the owl to a
queen Molest her ancient solitary reign (line 12). As Gray continues to describe the setting, we
discover it is a graveyard because he says, that yew tree s shade, (line 13) referring a graveyards trees.

The Consequences Of The English Industrial Revolution
An Industrial Revolution is when a society goes from using tools or making products by hand, to
using new sources of energy, such as coal, to power machines in factories. The consequences of the
English Industrial Revolution greatly outweighed the benefits. Factories were dangerous and
detrimental to the environment, workers were treated inhumanely, and living conditions were
unbearable due to urbanization. Factories were unsafe for workers and led to high levels of pollution.
They were filled with dust which led to health problems in workers, and the coolest part of the
ironworks was 130 degrees fahrenheit (web.bcp.org). Workers were cut, bruised, and killed because of
uncovered machine shafts. In Joseph Hebergram s testimony to the Sadler Committee, he shares a
memory from his time as a child worker: Hebergam: At the L____ Mill where I worked last, a boy
was caught in a machine and had both his thigh bones broke and from his knee to his hip the flesh was
ripped up the same as it had been cut by a knife. His hand was bruised, his eyes were nearly torn out
and his arms were broken. His sister, who ran to pull him off, had both her arms broke and her head
bruised. The boy died. I do not know if the girl is dead, but she was not expected to live (Document
2). The vast amount of coal that was burned to produce energy for the factories greatly increased the
amount of carbon dioxide in the air, and the smoke from the coal turned entire cities and rivers black.

Structural Functionalism In The Animated Film Inside Out
The 2015 Disney Pixar animated film Inside Out is the story of an 11 year old girl named Riley and
the personified emotions that shape and control her personality. The movie is a wonderful example of
the functional analysis theoretical perspective of sociology, also known as structural functionalism or,
simply, functionalism, in that it illustrates a society (in this case, the young girl Riley) can maintain
equilibrium only when its component parts (the emotions/characters of Joy, Sadness, Fear, Disgust,
and Anger) are each present and fulfilling their assigned functions. At the beginning of the film, Riley
and her parents live in Minnesota, where she has friends, enjoys her school, is a valued member of an
ice hockey team, and has an all around happy life. The movie s introduction depicts a typical day of
Riley s life in Minnesota, during which all five of the emotion characters properly fulfill their
functions and leave Riley in a normal state. Joy provides happiness for the young girl. Sadness
provides Riley moments of comfort from her parents and emotional bonding between Riley and her
parents. Fear keeps her from hurting herself by prompting a cautionary response. Likewise, Disgust
and Anger fulfill their intended, beneficial roles, thereby fulfilling their manifest functions. At the end
of the day, Joy congratulates her counterparts, telling them, Nice job, everybody. Another perfect day.
As the story progresses, Riley and her family move from Minnesota to San Francisco, where Riley
experiences culture shock. She and her family find their home to be more than a bit worn and dismal.
To make matters worse, their furniture has become lost in the cross country move, and Riley s father is
experiencing stress and anxiety in his job at a startup firm. Riley is uncomfortable at her new school
and in her new social environment as a whole. Riley s mother urges her to keep smiling, stay happy,
and be there for her father. At first the emotions are able work together, keeping Riley in harmony.
However, Sadness begins to cloud Riley s memories and feelings and override her balanced
personality. She tells Joy, Something s wrong with me. I think I m having a breakdown. Joy attempts
to take Sadness out of

Rock guitarists are turned into icons, legends, and heros for music lovers. They influence many kids
and adults to pick up the guitar and spend countless hours trying to replicate their favorite player.
Guitar solos can help compliment the song and make the listener keep coming back for that 30 to 60
seconds of destruction. This is what makes guitar players so important and essential in a rock band
and many times they become the main figure. The best players have developed their own styles and
sounds that are unique to them. This is what makes playing so extraordinary, the artists sound different
from one another. This is crucial to keep in mind while learning because a lot of the time this diversity
gets lost.

Tom Morello can play lightning fast solo s but his preference is a much more simpler approach. He
studied DJ s instead of guitar players to create a new unique sound. His solo s are based on weird
outer space sounds that don t sound like like a guitar. He achieves this by using lots of guitar effects
and pedals. The most common of his effects are the octave up and the kill switch. On lots of his solos
he will turn on an octave pedal which means an octave up will be additionally added to whatever he is
playing in that moment. These solos will consist of two or more octaves giving him a unique sparkly
sound. Tom Morello will often use a kill switch in his playing meaning whenever the switch is
engaged it cuts the sound. He has created a very unique style with this switch, he is able to sustain a
note with his left hand while cutting it in and out with his right. This gives him a very rhythmic style
which adds to his own

Aboriginal People Stereotypes
the false stereotypical views towards Australian Indigenous people. It is evident that this topic is one
to have a vast majority of individuals have strong opinions and valid concerns about, but please have a
positive outlook throughout the following words. Be aware that personal opinions and views on this
topic are logical and valid but reassess where you stand at the end of the following letter.
Since the European colonisation of Australia in the year of 1788, Indigenous people have been
tormented in a world that is seen as unnatural to their existence prior to these changes occurring.
Although it is believed that Aboriginal people have lived throughout Australia for up to 60,000 years

The ultimate goal was to eradicate all Aboriginal people as a distinct cultural society (Australian
Indigenous HealthInfoNet, 2017). Blanket Babies were covered by nurses with a blanket creating no
opportunity for the mother to see their newborn, before he/she was taken. The children were taken and
placed into dormitories, non Indigenous foster homes and or were adopted by non Indigenous
families. Once the child was the age of eighteen they were released into society. If a child was caught
talking in Aboriginal language they would be punished. No education was offered instead the girls
were taught to be servants and boys to be stockmen (Creative Spirits, 2018). In June of 2017, it was
established that there was an estimated number of 786,689 Australians identifying as Aboriginal, a
number that had increased by 17.4% from the year of 2011 (The Conversation, 2017). It has also been
acknowledged that it will take until the year of 2021 for the population figures to recover.
The occurrence of the Stolen Generations has resulted and contributed significantly to the many
challenges faced by Australian Indigenous people and still to this day, the Stolen Generations are still
continually searching for their parents/ family

Reflective Observation Reflection Paper
I felt the heat of the sun shinning through my window, I covered my face with a pillow even though I
knew it was time to get up. I slowly rolled out of bed, splashed my face with cold water, got my gear
on, and headed out the door. A couple days a week I would arrive early to the studio to sit and observe
the early risers stretch their way through their practice. I sat in the back of the small, dimly lit room,
that smells subtly of lavender. The heat gave the brick covered walls and wooden floors a warm,
homey feeling. As I sat cozily, I observed the expressions on the students faces as they moved in
unison, the flexibility of their bodies, and the quiet, calm voice of the instructor, Nola. As their
practice came to an end I ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
There are hundreds of postures and variations to those postures, which work to make the spine supple
and to promote circulation in all the organs, glands, and tissues. Haha postures also stretch and align
the body, promoting balance and flexibility. I attend a small yoga studio called, Yoga on Yamhill. This
is a two story, donation based studio located in the heart of downtown Portland.
My first observation about my yoga community is that growth is better in groups. Yoga is a path to
happiness, like any physical activity, it s better in the company of some inspirational people who see
you moving forward. Our yoga practice induce deep thought, wider breathing, eating more mindfully,
learning therapeutic concepts, making patient and conscious decisions about our bodies and lives, and
treating others with respect and kindness. This type of growing requires support of other like minded
people serving towards similar goals. Knowing that person in Down Dog next to you is pushing
towards a similar goal is comforting and inspiring. It motivates your body and your mind and pushes
your practice into the corners of your mat that can be hard to reach without outside inspiration from
your community.
Secondly, motivation! I know I will sleep in instead of going to class without a friend telling me I
need to get up. Finding that sense of place among like minded individuals

Informative Essay On Dna Testing
What is DNA testing? DNA testing is used regularly throughout our country. As technology improves,
government databases and formating becomes stronger. With this, the government is accurately able to
solve crimes and save lives. DNA testing is an incredible device in which real life applications are
solved with simple identification. Forensic testing aids to finding suspects and victims in criminal
investigations. DNA testing is an advancement in technology, and using it to the best of its abilities
can proficiently do justice in the U.S. Not only can DNA testing take criminals off the streets, but it
can also help gives evidence and vital information on individuals linked to a specific incident.
Statistics have shown that before the creation of DNA testing in the late 1980 s, tens of thousands of
investigations were completed in which identified suspects were improperly accused. These statistics
clearly state how DNA testing is extremely important in today s society. Without it, who knows where
criminal investigations would be. Professor Amitai Etzioni from George Washington University wrote

By reading the bibliographies of both these authors, one finds that Porter and Hemingway have met in a certain period of their life, where they could have shared lots of ideas and agreed on lots of different issues. Tanner and Tanner (1980) argue that this model has been the most dominant model of the twentieth century. In 1787, the Constitution was written in Philadelphia and due to the weaknesses of the Articles of Confederation (the inability to enforce taxes and the fear of tyranny starting), James Madison was worried about framing a new Constitutional and tyranny arising. The thought of one group of people having more power than another worries people. Tyranny can be shown in many different ways and it affects everyone. Tyranny of individual states and central government can be presented with the people in the states being able to ignore taxes. He thinks that constitutional control is going to come only when the branches are closer. Helping one another out (checking each other) makes them equal, preventing tyranny. The legislature can check the power of the chief executive by having Congress approve the president s nominations. The president can check the power of the Supreme Court by nominating judges, and the Supreme Court checks the Senate by declaring laws unconstitutional. The checks and balances system guarded against Tyranny by making sure no government is more powerful than another. Almost everyone knows of someone who is affected by these tragic diseases. Since the ancient times, there have been clues left showing possible cardio vascular diseases within the Egyptian families. The earliest proof of a cardio vascular disease is of a 3,500 year old Egyptian mummy with a serious case of arthrosclerosis, which was identified via modern CT scan. During the next few centuries little is known about cardio vascular diseases and the death rate subsequently is low, until the turn of the Industrial age. Premature atrial contractions are early additional beats that start in the atria and are usually innocuous and usually don t require medical attention. Premature ventricular contractions are one of the most prevailing arrhythmia where the heart will skip a beat due to stress, caffeine overindulgence, or excessive exercise. Some people who have frequent contractions should seek medical attention, but if it is irregular it is usually harmless. Atrial fibrillation is quite frequent which causes the atria to contract out of rhythm. Atrial flutter is a more organized version of atrial fibrillation where it s caused by one or many rapid circuits in the atria. Paroxysmal supraventricular tachycardia originates above the ventricle and is known as a rapid heart rate. Accessory pathway tachycardias are a form of rapid heart rate that is due to extra passageway between the ventricles and atria. • 6. Statistics Purpose Statement Statement of Purpose Junru Xia I first discovered my interest in statistics in my sophomore year at the University of California, Berkeley. In a statistics lecture, the professor explained how statistics can be applied in real life by giving an example that Amazon often promotes products by emailing its customers and recommending products according to sophisticated analysis of customers search records, as well as their transaction data. Previously having been immersed in the world of abstract statistics, I realized that in addition to being an essential tool to confirm theories already proposed, data itself can lead to entirely new ideas. The data patterns can be interpreted from many different perspectives, which triggered my eagerness to explore the stories hidden in data and improve my understanding of the world through data analysis. With a strong urge to enhance my quantitative foundation, I finished all my courses in mathematics with high scores, and learned Python and Data Scientists Toolbox through Codecademy and ... • 7. Effects Of Globalisation On Asia The impacts faced in Asia as a result of economic globalisation has resulted in a number of issues for the region. The impacts concern the vast economic growth of nation states, the improvements of technology, freer trade between countries and more jobs, but also the exploitation of labour and the income inequality that features frequently throughout the region of Asia. Along with these impacts on Asia, there are a number of benefits and disadvantages that have greatly affected the region. Globalisation, in particular economic globalisation has had many impacts, both beneficial and negative, on Asia. Economic globalisation refers to the integration of national economies into the international economy through trade, foreign direct investment, capital flows, migration, and the spread of technology (Potocki 2). Economic globalisation has seen many benefits for Asia as it allows for freer trade between countries within Asia as well as worldwide to Western countries such as the United States. Advancements in technology has been a major benefit to economic globalisations as it decreases the costs of communication and transportation of goods, which is of great benefit for trading between nations and connecting Asia and the rest of the world (Shangquan 1). Economic globalisation has also allowed for products to be manufactured at a much lower cost as well as being sold for a lower cost. • 8. The Queen Of Air And Darkness Analysis **The Queen of Air and Darkness, a novel written by T.H. White, mainly follows the lives of King Arthur and Morgause, as well as those around them. King Arthur is beginning his reign after pulling a sword of a stone and discovering he is the rightful king of England while Morgause is living a life of selfishness in the Lothian territories with her four sons. In The Queen Of Air and Darkness, White uses diction and tone to express the importance of devotion in the world through the Orkney boys relationship with their mother, King Pellinore s love for Piggy, and Arthur s mission of making the world a better place. Morgause pays minimal attention to her sons while also using their devotion against them. Nevertheless, the Orkney boys are willing to spend their lives fighting against the government of England, specifically Arthur. All of their lives Morgause has drilled into their minds what she wants them to believe, especially the fact that her words are always true. A story that she tells them often is the reason King Lot, the boys father, has gone away to fight against the Pendragons. She explains the lineage of Arthur, and that it is the Orkney family s obligation to get revenge. Therefore, when the boys hear her tell her favorite story (210), they consequently accept it as truth without a second thought. • 13. Persuasive Essay On Being An Adult When do you actually become an adult? There are legal terms that qualify someone as an adult, but that doesn t necessarily mean that they act like one. I think being an adult means, being able to support yourself; as in having a steady paying job, and most importantly being accountable to yourself. Being able to make your own decisions without asking a parent or model figure first, is an example of having an identity status of a moratorium. One with this type of mindset as a young adult, will weigh their options and consider their values and what they believe themselves, whether it s their own thought branched off of their parents guidance, or it is completely their own idea and they explore to see what their views are. On the other hand, for some, they rely on their parents approval, they may have an idea or opinion about a topic, but they will ask a parent or model figure in their life to seek guidance. The young adult wants the security of having the approval of a decision and being told what to do and pointed what direction to go towards. This is essentially making the decision for them. This type of identity status if called foreclosure. At a very young age, I was given the responsibility to take care of my youngest sister after school. Everyone is a product of both their heredity and environment, and this is demonstrated in modern texts and podcasts. Individuals have limited control on their environment, actions of others, and genetics; however, memories and experiences influences how people behave and act. When people are placed into a situation everyone responds in their own way, and one s past is a crucial part of how an individual will respond in in new environment. Emily Dickinson s I Heard A Fly Buzz When I Died The Surprising Elements of I heard a Fly Buzz When I Died In some instances within literature, writers surprise readers by incorporating ideas that the reader may or may not expect. Within Emily Dickinson s poem I heard a Fly Buzz When I Died , readers are introduced to a ghostly speaker that discusses the scene of their deathbed. Readers are exposed to many surprises throughout various aspects of the poem. One aspect of the poem that surprises readers is the relationship between the speaker and the fly .The first surprise involved in this relationship, is the combined revelation of the fly and the speaker s death. As the poem begins, the speaker says to readers, I heard a fly buzz when I died (Dickinson, 1). After reading that the speaker heard the buzz of a fly, readers may expect the death of the fly or more detail on the fly itself. However, the speaker hits readers by telling them that they heard the buzzing at the moment of their own death. Dickinson is immediately telling readers that her poem contains supernatural elements that link to the fly. This may come as a shock to readers, since they may ponder the significance of the fly within the speaker s death, as it is not yet revealed by the end of the poem s first line. The relationship between the speaker and the fly continues to be surprising, as the speaker describes the fly as the power that controls their life (the gateway between life and death). That is what happened with Jason James and I. Jason was once my best friend, practically a brother, we did everything together. I was always there for him, in the times when he needed someone the most. Jason James suffered from depression, like me. Because I knew exactly what he was going through, we became close. But there was always something off about our friendship. It was always about him. One day I got a text from Jason saying he needed to get out of the house and just talk. When the viewer first meets Chiron, he is running from bullies. As he ages, the bullying follows him, causing him to harden and avoid vulnerability in his adult life. The scene culminates with the characters distancing themselves from both each other and the audience. Rather than following the characters as they leave, the camera stays stable, leaving an empty space on screen in their absence. This absence of a figure on screen in their house hints at Chiron s lack of a home, a safe place to explore his individuality. Jenkins lighting and sound are also essential to the portrayal of this scene as a key moment in Chiron s struggle with his identity. These elements characterize Paula as an impeding obstacle to Chiron s self discovery. Chiron s face here is highlighted, while his mother s face is covered in shadows. This contrasts the two, indicating that the audience should be on Chiron s side and see the darkness within Paula. Typically, mothers in films are basked in warm light, indicating their nurturing relationships with their children. The shadows covering Paula s face, therefore, suggest that she is an absent mother figure, which soils Chiron s natural maturation. Furthermore, no sound can be heard from Paula, though the audience can read her lips and understand the nature of their conversation. Instead, classical music is audible. The use of no sound further establishes Paula as an absent figure in Chiron s life because she is seen, but not heard. Paula s body is basked in pink light until the end of the scene, when the light fades to reveal bluish green walls. In this film, Jenkins uses the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

In the poem Elegy Written in a Country Churchyard by Thomas Gray, the poet speaks about the place they are at, which is the setting; he also discusses how no matter how rich or poor you are, you will all die, unfortunate life of the villagers, and his own epitaph. The poem includes various literary terms that support the different divisions of thought. We complain about little stuff in life that we forget about the significance of cherishing the ones we love. The first division of thought is the setting of the poem. The poet lets us know that it is night time and the bells of death are ringing, setting a somber tone for the poem. He describes how he was left alone in the darkness in line four And leaves the world to darkness and to me ; describing the time of day. He uses alliteration in line seven exaggerating the beetles humming during silence. He then uses onomatopoeia to describe the gentle sound made by the bells the sheep were wearing. He suggests that the owl is affected by the darkness and somber mood of the people surrounding him moping owl does to the moon complain (line 10). The Consequences Of The English Industrial Revolution An Industrial Revolution is when a society goes from using tools or making products by hand, to using new sources of energy, such as coal, to power machines in factories. The consequences of the English Industrial Revolution greatly outweighed the benefits. Factories were dangerous and detrimental to the environment, workers were treated inhumanely, and living conditions were unbearable due to urbanization. Factories were unsafe for workers and led to high levels of pollution. They were filled with dust which led to health problems in workers, and the coolest part of the ironworks was 130 degrees fahrenheit (web.bcp.org). Workers were cut, bruised, and killed because of uncovered machine shafts. In Joseph Hebergram s testimony to the Sadler Committee, he shares a memory from his time as a child worker: Hebergam: At the L____ Mill where I worked last, a boy was caught in a machine and had both his thigh bones broke and from his knee to his hip the flesh was ripped up the same as it had been cut by a knife. His hand was bruised, his eyes were nearly torn out and his arms were broken. His sister, who ran to pull him off, had both her arms broke and her head bruised. The boy died. I do not know if the girl is dead, but she was not expected to live (Document 2). Structural Functionalism In The Animated Film Inside Out The 2015 Disney Pixar animated film Inside Out is the story of an 11 year old girl named Riley and the personified emotions that shape and control her personality. The movie is a wonderful example of the functional analysis theoretical perspective of sociology, also known as structural functionalism or, simply, functionalism, in that it illustrates a society (in this case, the young girl Riley) can maintain equilibrium only when its component parts (the emotions/characters of Joy, Sadness, Fear, Disgust, and Anger) are each present and fulfilling their assigned functions. At the beginning of the film, Riley and her parents live in Minnesota, where she has friends, enjoys her school, is a valued member of an ice hockey team, and has an all around happy life. The movie s introduction depicts a typical day of Riley s life in Minnesota, during which all five of the emotion characters properly fulfill their functions and leave Riley in a normal state. Joy provides happiness for the young girl. Sadness provides Riley moments of comfort from her parents and emotional bonding between Riley and her parents. Fear keeps her from hurting herself by prompting a cautionary response. Likewise, Disgust and Anger fulfill their intended, beneficial roles, thereby fulfilling their manifest functions. At the end of the day, Joy congratulates her counterparts, telling them, Nice job, everybody. Another perfect day.
