Communism And Its Effect On Society
Man has sought out the perfect form to administer government action and beliefs.. They came up with
the idea of Capitalism. Others found that those who were divine should rule. Others sought after a
government that offered programs and reforms to the populous and called in socialism. Some thought
about having the church run the government, but the theory that many people strive to accomplish is
communism. Communism has been tried again and again. The only difference was the people leading
the revolutions. The theory to run a government known as communism has been around since the
1840s. This form of government seems great on paper, but fall through after time has past and the
government is able to establish itself. Just like a coin, communism has two sides to it. The one side is
the idea that everyone is truly equal and their is no class difference at all. While the other side is that
almost everyone is equal. Karl Marx who thought of the theory believed that this form of government
was the best form of government and explained it in his book the Communist Manifesto. While the
british author George Orwell s sought against this form of government because he saw what happened
when communism becomes the part of the government.. In his novel 1984 even though it s a fictional
world he demonstrates what communism turns into. He shows that it always turn into an oppressive
dictatorship or oligarchy. Karl Marx was born May 5, 1818 in Germany and passed away at the age of

The Australian Red Cross Blood Service Essay
1. Context and Problem
The Australian Red Cross Blood Service (ARCBS) has identified a long standing issue of poor repeat
blood donation from young donors, in particular males. While this group of the population has a high
number of new donors, it has been found they are also the least loyal, which poses a problem for both
current and future blood stocks. As a marketing consultancy firm, we have been commissioned to
analyse the issues surrounding blood donation in Australia, and to devise three cost effective
marketing strategies aimed at increasing repeat donation from this demographic.
2. Literature Review
The topic of blood donation well researched, with strategies having been devised to try and increase
donation rates all over the world. Australia faces a challenging set of circumstances, in which
remuneration for donation is illegal (ARCBS, 2013). It is thought this may be a contributing factor to
the poor repeat donation rates in youth demographics, for whom altruism is no longer a primary
driving factor when considering donation (Russell Bennett, Hartel, Previte Russel, 2012).
Since the iconic work by Titmuss (1970), blood donation has been considered one of the only true
altruistic behaviours, and many marketing strategies have been engineered around this concept.
Several authors, however, have argued that blood donation is not a case of true altruism , and is
actually a case of impure altruism , whereby the donor receives personal utility and improvement

No Ordinary Disruption By Richard Dobbs
Overview As our venture capital firm prepares to take the plunge into global investment, it is vital that
we understand all the forces at work. In the book No Ordinary Disruption by Richard Dobbs, James
Manyika, and Jonathan Woetzel, they examine four forces that are changing our world and as a result
our business and leadership. This executive summary examines the fourth force of, Greater Global
Connections specifically focusing on Chapter 4, Trade, People, Finance and Data. As Dobbs, Manyika
and Woetzel walk us through their theory and evidence, it is clear that their analysis is well founded
and appropriate. Greater Global Connections Trade in Goods and Services o Trade today is not just
located in North America and Western Europe; trade is now a complex web that includes Asia, Latin
America and Africa. o South to South trade, meaning trade between developing countries, accounts for
40 percent of all goods flow. The expansion of trade into these new regions is by reason of
technological advances and economic growth and increasing numbers of consumers. o Companies of
all sizes and kind can now participate in trade, for instance trade is no longer just about manufacturing
clothing but robotics and other more advance goods. Finance o Money is the new commodity because
of it ease of transference and makes trade possible. o As represented with trade, developing countries
are starting to become a source of and just a receiver of capital flow; assets are

Tree Kangaroo Welfare Essay
Matschie s tree kangaroo (Dendrolagus matschiei) population is declining significantly, so to conserve
this species, captive breeding programs have been conducted in zoos. Research has shown presence of
visitors can have negative impacts on animal welfare, but the welfare implications of visitors on tree
kangaroos have not yet been examined. The aim of this study is to determine the impact of visitor
presences on Matschie s tree kangaroo welfare. In this experiment, 10 tree kangaroos will be
examined by testing two treatment groups: no visitor contact and exposure to visitors. Treatment
groups will be tested for 1 day period in a total of 10 study days and 5 days for each treatment group.

This is because while zoos try to raise awareness on conservation programs by allowing visitors to
have a close interaction with animals, this however sometimes comes at the expense of the animals
welfare (Calyton, Fraser, Saunders, 2009).Research has suggested that visitors can affect animal
behaviour and stress physiology even when animals are separated by barriers (Fernandez et al., 2009).
A recent study has indicated that when exposed to visitors, the level of vigilance increased in both
Kangaroo Island kangaroos and Red kangaroos. Furthermore, Kangaroo Island kangaroos would
increase time spent in locomotion and decrease time spent on resting (Sherwen, 2015). In addition,
previous studies have shown that social factors and conditions of confinement have proven to cause
stress for tree kangaroos (Hutchins et al., 1991). As a consequence, this reduces the chances of
reproductive success, thus zoo populations are declining. A more detailed understanding of tree
kangaroo behaviour and stress triggers is needed to advance the reproductive success of this

My Papa s Waltz And For My Daughter
Throughout the second half of this semester, we have read poems that all had some type of
comparison. It may not have been an obvious comparison, but most of these poems had at least one. In
the poems, My Papa s Waltz and For My Daughter, both describe a beloved family member. They both
put in clear detail of the positive and negative things about said family member. These poems both
describe someone misunderstanding or mistreating another. It is amazing how each of these poems can
describe or be told about a certain problem and how they all can relate in some type of way. The
reason behind that is because everyone no matter who they are all goes through the same situations as
the next person. Whether it is, gender, age, religion, race or even education, there is something that
can connect one to another. In the poem, My Papa s Waltz, by Theodore Roethke, the narrator is the
small boy mentioned in the second line. He thoroughly describes every little thing about what his
father is doing; this shows the large amount of imagery in the poem. This connection is obviously
between a boy and his father; hence the title of the poem. Speaking of the title of the poem, it is
exactly what is named. A waltz is a song written in ¾ time, this is normally a very intimate type of
dance (Shmoop). There may be a danced being performed, but do not be fooled. Eventually, we realize
that this poem is a lot worse that what most would originally think. This poem quickly goes from good

The Crucible and The Salem Witch Trials by Arthur Miller...
Arthur Miller wrote plays as a way of showing people the real picture of what life was really like
during the Great Depression and after World War II. Before the Great Depression many Americans
were living in a significant time period, the Roaring Twenties. People had radios, automobiles, and
movies with sounds. Then it all suddenly came to an end with the Stock Market Crash, leading to the
Great Depression. During the Great Depression, Americans faced poverty, and had no income because
jobs weren t available. Throughout his life Miller influenced many people with his plays, and his
contributions to this day because people want to read and understand what was truly happening in past
history. For example, The Crucible is a play about the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
However, their marriage spiraled downward and they eventually divorced. While Miller was married
to his first wife, he had an affair with Marilyn Monroe, who later would become his wife. Marilyn
Monroe was a great influence in his life inspiring him to write After the Fall (1964), which was an
open portrayal of his marriage with Monroe.
Arthur s purpose for writing literature was to unmask the problems and issues of capitalism so the
people could have a fair understanding of the truth but in his plays rather than newspapers and
magazines. In the nineteen fifty s, Miller was starting to go downhill. During this time, one of Millers
most popular and recognized works; The Crucible was playing on Broadway. The Crucible showed a
relationship with the Communist Red Scare that America was facing during this. The Communist Red
Scare took place shortly after the end of World War I. It was a nationwide fear of communist,
socialists, and other fears America was facing. Since the Red Scare was such a big deal to many
Americans during this time in American history, Millers face drastically declined. With the production
of Millers, The Crucible, it brought more attention and suspicion on Miller. In the middle of the
nineteen fifty s, he was called to testify in front of the House Committee on Un American Activity,

Coaggregation Essay
The primary outcome of this study showed coaggregation between A. radioresistens and S.
epidermidis or S. haemolyticus, though the coaggregation was mild and sporadic. Additionally, the
combination of S. epidermidis or S. haemolyticus with M. luteus demonstrated coaggregation.
However, no coaggregating pairs exhibited the high scores as presented by the positive control paring
of A. naeslundii ATCC 12104 and S. sanguinis CR2B, which resemble the findings of the previous
study.41 From the data presented here, it is clear that the microorganism were isolated from same

is still unknown. The present study also has shown the adhesion of Staphylococcus spp. had the
influence in the adhesion of A. radioresistens. The rate of bacterial growth in liquid medium, builds
the argument of cohesion results where M. luteus or A. radioresistens was initiated the growth of S.
epidermidis and S. haemolyticus in BHI. There was a reduction in the growth of M. luteus with
Staphylococcus spp; although the contrary was expressed in cohesion assay.
The current study also has investigated the inhibitory effect of lactose, sucrose and pronase in the
coaggregation. Sato et al (1984) demonstrated that coaggregation between actinomycetes and
streptococci occurred via lectin like substances (i.e. substances similar or identical to proteins that
bind sugars) on the surface of actinomycetes with carbohydrate(s) on the surface of streptococci.47
Pre treating Staphylococcus spp. with lactose and sucrose inhibited the coaggregation which indicates
the involvement of Staphylococci lectins in the coaggregation which again resembles the finding of
the previous study. The ocular isolates of S. aureus and S. epidermidis inhibited the coaggregation
with P. aeruginosa and S. marcescens when pre treated with lactose or sucrose.41 However, the
selected inhibitory sugars were unable to stop coaggregation with Micrococcus spp. and Acinetobacter

Cesar Franck Writing Style
César Franck was one of the most sought after and remarkable composers of the 19th century. Born in
Liège in 1822, Franck received his musical instruction at the age of eight at Liège Conservatoire. In
1834, he gave the first public concert in Liège. After moving to Paris in 1835, Frank entered the
Conservatoire where he studied counterpoint with Leborne and piano with Zimmermann. It was
during his student years at the Paris Conservatoire which Franck composed his first serious works,
three trios for piano, violin and cello, that foreshadows his late style music, concluding the early use
of cyclic form. In 1858, Franck was appointed as an organist at Sainte Clotilde, which leads to his
combinations of organ techniques reflected in his late ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The chorale fulfilled the lack of cantabile and sustained melody, the chorale served as the relieve from
the rush of the Prelude and lead to the Fugue. Franck gave to the Prelude Chorale et Fugue the sense
of being grounded in baroque practice. His inspirations were Bach, Beethoven s sonatas, Schumann s
Symphonic Etudes, and Liszt s Weinen Klagen variations. There is a close reflection of Wagner s
Parsifal in the melody of the chorale. The Prelude, Chorale, and Fugue, in its basic ideas, as well as
their technical expression for the instrument...wielded a powerful influence over the rising generation
of composers in offering them a kind of ideal to follow, a complete expression of the ideals that were
opposed fundamentally to the superficial music then in popular favour. In d Indy s biography of his
teacher, he tells us of Franck s sudden interest in the piano and how he came to write the Prelude,
Chorale, and Fugue: César Franck, struck by the lack of serious works in this style, set to work with
a youthful fervour which belied his sixty years to try if he could not adapt the old aesthetic forms to
the new technique of the piano, a problem which could only be solved by some considerable

A Comparison Of Mi Familia And Fools Rush In
For my comparison I watched the 1997 movie Fools Rush In, written by Katherine Reback and Joan
Taylor. This film features Matthew Perry (playing the role of an white architect from NY) and Salma
Hayek (playing Isabel Fuentes a Mexican American photographer). Alex and Isabel hit it off at first
sight and end up having a one night stand. Isabel gets pregnant from that night, and the two ends up
trying to make a relationship work despite their vastly different cultural backgrounds. The parents of
the two young lovers have extremely different values and family ideals which lead to confrontation.
Long story short, Alex and Isabel work through their differences and get married with full support of
both families in the end. Mi Familia and Fools Rush In both portray traditional gender roles and male
dominant family dynamics. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

anything after that. Both fathers start arguing over what religion the baby will be, insulting each other
s cultures in the process. The mothers have no say in the argument, reinforcing that the male is the
voice and authority of the family. The message that the white culture should be embarrassed of
Mexican American culture is present in both films. The scene when Alex s parents first meet Isabel
and think is the cleaning lady (because Alex didn t tell them she is his wife), mirrors the scene when
Memo bring his white fiancé s family to his house. Alex and Memo were embarrassed to introduce
their white cultured side of the family to their Mexican American side. I found it interesting that both

The Importance Of Year-Round Schooling
Year round schooling is a system that lengthens the amount of days spent in school by shortening the
duration of vacations. Although students may think otherwise, year round schooling should be
enforced in schools today. Year round schooling keeps students stimulated, throughout the entire
school year. Year round schooling improves a student s academic and social performance as well as
supporting families financial strains. If year round schooling is not enforced, the academic scores of
the students will continue to decrease.
Year round schooling increases students academic performances. A study from the California State
Department of Education shows that standardized test scores increased an average of 9.5% in Grade 3

Analysis Of The Spook Who Sat By Dan Freeman
During a time when many Negros in American were using means of violence and protest to attempt to
become visible to the dominant race in America, Dan Freeman decides to use invisibility to reach his
goal of bringing the Negro Race out of oppression. In The Spook Who Sat by the Door Freeman
believes that the ability of the Negro race to become invisible is their greatest asset to his race as
Freeman utilizes that ability in almost every aspect in his life. From Freeman s time as an agent in the
CIA to being a social worker in Chicago he is able to maintain his invisibility without anyone
becoming suspicious of his actual plan. In Freeman s relatively small training class in the CIA

The Negative Effects Of Cigarettes
Cigarettes kill more Americans than suicide, vehicular accidents, alcohol, cocaine, heroin, ADIS, and
homicides combined. Cigarettes do not support or benefit the public in a positive way. Cigarettes are
filled with thousands of chemicals and are highly addictive. Cigarettes have caused numerous mental
and physical problems for smokers and the people who surround them, impacting families,
communities and society. Cigarettes and tobacco should become an illegal drug in North America. The
negative traits of smoking outweigh the positive traits; tobacco should not be accessible to the public.
Smoking kills these two words should be very familiar. The effects of first hand smoke from cigarettes
are pathetically publicize, barley educating the public about the dangers and life threatening problems
and illness associated with smoking. Although the understanding that smoking cigarettes can kill you
has been established in the minds of Americans, the effects of second hand and thirdhand smoke has
not. Two thirds of the smoke from a cigarette is not draw in by the smoker, but enters the air and
environment around the smoker, this smoke is exactly the same as the third of smoke that was inhaled
into the lungs of the smoker. ( Second hand Smoke ) Second and third hand smoke may cause cancers
of the larynx (voice box), pharynx (throat), bladder, nasal sinuses, rectum, breast, brain, stomach in
adults and brain tumours, lymphoma and leukemia in children. ( Second hand Smoke ) Second hand
smoke is the smoke inhaled involuntary by others produced by burning tobacco.
Unfortunately second hand smoke has twice the chemicals originate in the direct inhalation of tobacco
found in cigarettes. ( Secondhand Smoke ) Non smokers who inhale the polluted air are likely to get
many serious diseases such as Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (emphysema and chronic
bronchitis), heart disease, lung cancer, asthma and other diseases. ( Second Hand Smoke ) Third hand
smoke can have the same impact as second hand smoke; third hand smoke is the tobacco smoke that
gets trapped hair, skin, fabric, carpet, furniture, and toys. Third hand smoke contains the same toxic
chemicals as second hand smoke and has the same effect on the body;

Suburban Sitcoms In The 60 s
Suburban sitcoms coming out in the late 50 s early 60 s portrayed usually an average family with
average problems it solves by the end of the episode, most sitcoms including Leave It To Beaver
followed the same formula; two white parents, a mother, and father, and 2 3 children; every episode
followed the same steps, there s a problem, the problem is solved by the end of the episode, and a
lesson is learned by the main character. This held up perfectly in the 50 s and 60 s society, but sitcoms
needed to adapt to fit their society, as time progressed, more important issues showed up in the shows,
and as the US became more diverse so did the sitcoms. Today suburban sitcoms couldn t be more

The Commercialization Of Sport At The United States...
The Commercialization of Sport According to Brad Austin (2015), the US university programs on
athletics has created tangible links between the authorities of the institution and the alumni group in
two ways. One is legitimizing and codifying the alumni interest in men s and women s sports. To do
this, they even have provided alumni representatives in the athletic governing body. The second one, is
the coordination of various alumni events with the yearly homecoming events in the universities of the
US. It has been found that the American leaders used to utilize these homecoming events to rejuvenate
the spirit and affinity among the people of the country during the decades of the early twentieth
century. Thus, the universities were used to get affected by this political interest. This political interest
enhanced the initial steps towards commercialization of homecoming. Janet Harvey (2000) has
pointed out that in the last two decades the American homecoming events have witnessed a cultural
transformation towards commercialization. These transformations have long term impact on its
audience. The entertainment packages are now much more an issue of concerns in the mainstream
media than the actual sports event. The popularity has been brought to a great extent by this hip hop
culture through commercialization. Contemporary cultural analysts are mostly concerned about
analysing the impact of globalisation on the localised events like homecoming game tailgate. The

Compare And Contrast Young Goodman Brown And The Lottery
Introduction Nathaniel Hawthorne s Young Goodman Brown and Shirley Jackson s The Lottery both
tell stories using literary techniques of tone, symbolism, and irony that help to convey stories that
leave the reader baffled by their ending. Although Hawthorne and Jackson utilize these literary
techniques in a different way, both of the stories end with a sense of darkness.
Tone
Hawthorne and Jackson have set different tones for their stories. Nathaniel Hawthorne creates a tone
that is somber and serious throughout most of the story of Yong Goodman Brown . The story tells of a
man, Goodman Brown, discovering evil. Even though Goodman Brown has apprehension about going
on the journey in the forest, he allows his curiosity to get the best of him and decides to attend the evil
ceremony in the forest. The tone of the story corresponds with the action occurring in the plot as one
of somberness. Brown goes along in his journey expecting something evil to take place. After learning
the nature of evil, he begins to feel that he is constantly surrounded by evil. This changes his attitude
from his background of piety and faith to a dark place that suspects evil in everything including his
wife. Unlike Young Goodman Brown , the tone of The Lottery begins with an anticipation of ... Show

The Positive Impact Of Technology
Technology has evolved over the years, improving in fields such as medicine, computer programming,
business, and the list goes on. It has opened up a number of jobs and work opportunities and helped
make society more efficient. The human brain has also benefited a great deal, due to fast paced
research and new ways to improve and present creativity skills, using different pieces of technology
and search engines. There are some downsides to technology and the wide growth of it, while some
problems are created through the misuse of it and how others take advantage of it. However,
technology really has more of a positive impact than anything, because it has made society and people
work more efficiently, opened up new work opportunities, helped our brains think more in depth and
helped people become more creative, and has really made an impact in medicine.
People and society in general has improved in the sense that they work more efficiently. According to
Yuki Noguchi, a journalist for NPR news, reported that The advance of tablets and Web based
computing makes it possible for more people to work remotely... . People are now able to work much
faster and are able to get more done because they have things like cell phones, tablets, and laptops,
which makes it easier to work just about anywhere one goes. In addition, there is an increase in

A Review Of Moral Competence Leadership
A REVIEW OF MORAL COMPETENCE LEADERSHIP Introduction: Moral competence does not
have a unique definition. However, in simple words moral competence is an ability that judges the
thing is correct or wrong. Mental capacity, universal human principles golden rule, altruism and
measured against are connected to moral competence. In following part, definitions and relatedness
will be mentioned. 1. Mental capacity: Mental capacity refers to decisions made by patients, which
have a moral and legal status as decisions. (Owen e al., 2007) for example, people have the mental

human principles is one of the stages of moral competence. At this stage we determine how to apply
principles of utilitarianism, the categorical imperative, right theory and justice in our behavior,
personal goals as well as values. Thus, universal human principles is connected to mental capacity and

targets. For many soldiers, they succumb to such a fate; being depleted their ability to feel immediate
emotion, they develop primitive, animalistic urges of bloodlust during a time of bloodshed. The
aspects of war gravely impacts a person, and as such can be seen in O Flaherty s character the sniper,
as well as seen in O Brien s character Private Paul Berlin. The sniper is a victim to the war s cold,
emotionless embrace. A Republican soldier, he is, divided from his brothers in arms on the other side,
the ones called the Free Staters. Nonetheless, under the circumstances, they all are pawns to Dublin s

Non Verbal Communication Essay
Communication is a complex activity which involve verbal and non verbal communication, the topic
under discussion, the prejudgments that people bring to the topic, and the communication history
between participants in the discussion. A Speaker who transmits message must ensure that the
message is delivered clearly. A listener who takes the messages must be an active listener. As effective
communication can only take place when the recipient of the message understands it s meaning and
able to express that meaning back to the speaker or sender of the message. (Flexstudycom.2015).
2.1 Types of Communication People communicate with each other in a number of ways that depend
upon the message and its context in which it is being sent. There are basically 2 categories of
communication channel:
Verbal Communication
Non verbal Communication
2.1.1 Verbal communication refer to the form of communication in which message is transmitted
verbally. The main idea of verbal communication is to keep everything KISS (keep it short and
simple). And it can further divide into Oral Communication and Written Communication.
2.1.2 Non verbal communication is the sending or receiving of wordless messages. With the body
people communicate a wide variety of message through gestures, facial expressions, eye movements
and touching behavior. Sometimes non verbal communication response contradicts verbal

The Importance Of A Seed Growing Like A Little Me
When I was a young girl, I cherished the moments my family and I had while we were outside during
the summer. Usually going outside consisted of me riding my newly bought, white and pink bike that I
still wobbled on because it was too big for me or climbing the apple tree in the front yard, but this
time, my parents wanted my brother and I to help garden. The dreadful thing of planting a beautiful
flower in the mucky dirt, left my hands and feet soiled in a dark substance. I never liked gardening and
I hated when I saw the neighborhood children enjoying the activity , but I always did what my parents
told me. Now, as I look back into the life of the young Brittney, I realize that the only thing that I didn
t like about it was the dirt. Did I not understand what putting the root into the soil meant, or was I just
too childish to remark the significance of a seed growing like a little me? Never did gardening come
across me as fun ! Who wanted dirt stuck under their finger and toenails and who wanted pretty pink
clothes ruined with soil? Not me and at that time, I could guarantee no other girl would want this
either! Fun came to me as climbing a tree on a hot and humid day, not gardening. Riding a bike up and
down ramps, singing little tunes, and even playing house left me happier than the dirty, disgusting job
of gardening. Don t get me wrong, I loved the smell of flowers and I loved the little bugs that flew or
crawled around, but something about that dirt

The Wounds In Syria
In Syria there is a war going on, and had been going on for over 5 years. Many people have fled and
400,000 people have been killed. There is this organization called the white helmets and they are
designed to save and help people when a bomb hits. Although many have fled , the ones who stayed
back rely on this group of white helmets to help them if they ever get injured or trapped because of a
bomb. Many of the people that are getting targeted are women and children and they are innocent
people. The white helmets believe everyone s life is equal so they try their hardest on trying to rescue
people from the rubble. The white helmets get sent away for a month and get trained on how to

Russia s intervention to support the regime says they are fighting isis but really they are targeting
innocent civilians. In Aleppo, two barrel bombs were dropped in a small village with about 10 houses.
The first bomb left a number of people injured; but the second one killed lots of people. In the film we
met a man named Khalid Farah who has been apart of the white helmets for 3 years. He said that
anyone who is killed or injured is treated as if it was his own son, because everyone should have the
equal care. Teams of white helmets would leave Syria and go to southern turkey for a month and gain
experience, so they could go back and teach their colleagues. We also met a man in the film who
crossed the border and said it was a whole new world. This man would see planes in the sky and said
if he was back home the planes would be dropping bombs. I learned that Syria is a very dangerous
place for just innocent people. One of the questions I had during the film was why don t the people in
Syria just leave, since Syria is only getting worse? In the film they say Syria was bad but now it s
getting worse so why don t they just leave? Another question I had during the film is why do the

Is The Narrator Unreliable In Bartleby The Scrivener
Is the Narrator Unreliable in Bartleby the Scrivener ? Melville created something new in Bartleby the
scrivener; as a well known story the narrator that tells the story is unreliable because he sounds bias to
one of the character in the story. For example from the book first clue he gives us comes in the first
sentence I am a rather elderly man . Instead of taking him right away as a wise old man who is giving
us the story straight, look for contradictions in his narration. His prudence and method might easily
translate into words like greedy or miserly. He claims to be mild mannered but is furious about the
abolition of his former job because he counted on doing little or no work, and making enormous
profits (Melville 406). ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
For example from the book Even though he speaks of his compassion to his clerks Turkey and
Nippers, there is a way in which he might be completely out of touch with their actual needs and real
feelings. For instance, he does not seem to care about why his two employees become angry or
belligerent while working, but rather content that they do not rebel at the same time. A Narrator is just
a person. He is not a particularly kind and understanding man, nor is he an unusually outspoken one.
No, he is just well, just a man who is going about his life in the easiest way possible. introducing the
scrivener as he first appeared to me, it is fit I make some mention of myself, my employees, my
business, my chambers and general surroundings, because some such description is indispensable to
an adequate understanding of the chief character about to be presented. At the period just preceding
the advent of Bartleby, he had two persons as copyists in my employment, and a promising lad as an
office boy. First, Turkey; second, Nippers; third Ginger Nut these may seem names the like of which
are not usually found in the Directory. In truth, they were nicknames, mutually conferred upon each
other by my three clerks, and were deemed expressive of their respective persons or characters.

How Did We Revolutionize Canada
Nothing could have better complimented the end of WW1 than the 1920s, also known as the roaring
twenties. This era is most notable for its help in revolutionizing Canada into a new modern age and
help shape Canada into what it is today. This was a time of many new remarkable inventions like the
automobile, the radio, and the telephone which all had advanced and change how we live today. This
era was also when Canada took the necessary steps in achieving greater autonomy from Britain.
Canadians believed that Canada should no longer be controlled by a European power, so in the
decades after war, Canada took steps toward independence. Canada joined the League of Nations in
1919. This was one of the first times canada took independent action in cooperation with a ... Show

Therapeutic Communication and Group Dynamics
In regards to therapeutic communication and group dynamics, I feel that I have an interesting
perspective. I function as a telephone triage nurse taking after hours calls for physicians, as well as
answering health advice questions for community callers. My current workplace is such that as nurses,
we work autonomously while on shift. For the most part, our coworkers at the time of our shift are
actually the doctors on call. However, in order for the dynamics of our departments to work most

assume that that eventually would translate to care of the patients. In regards to being a professional
nurse and leader in the aspect of directing a group, Jacobs, Masson, Harvill, Schimmel (2012) note
that it is important to have a clear and direct purpose, know your audience, and direct the group
toward the intended purpose. Not only are these concepts important in the direct meeting of the actual
group, but also as promoting cohesiveness within the department. I feel that my organizational skills
and planning as a training nurse, and director of small groups, is very important in the overall
productivity of our department. I feel that having compassion for my fellow nurses, as well as the
professionalism needed to lead a group of peers, is an important skill to embrace. It is also important
to note that while providing education to a group, it is important for the facilitator to not only provide
important information, such as articles provided on mindfulness in the workplace, but you also serve
as a facilitator of the direction of the discussion (Jacobs et al., 2012).

Compare And Contrast Looking For Alibrandi
Melina Marchetta s 1993 novel, Looking for Alibrandi, is based on the story of an Italian teenage girl
living in Australia during the early 1990 s in Sydney. Kate Woods motion picture interpretation of the
book creates similarities and differences between the two texts. By comparing the relationships within
the characters of Josephine Alibrandi, Katia Alibrandi and Ivy Lloyd or Poison Ivy /Carly Bishop in
both texts, the audience is able to identify the likeness and contrasts among the film and novel.
Firstly, one of the characters that represents the similarities and differences between the two texts is
the narrator of the story, Josephine Alibrandi or Josie. The stubborn Italian teenager shares multiple

Poison Ivy and Carly are introduced differently in the novel. Ivy is the intelligent school captain of St
Martha s and Josie s rival. Carly is one of the pretentious try hards in the world (pg. 81) with a stuck
up and racist attitude. Both characters clash with Josie when it involves John Barton, Josie s crush, or
racism. One type of racist comment in the novel that Josie receives is: ...and you re more than a wog,
if you know what I mean. (pg. 82). This comment not only speaks of racism but Josie s illegitimacy
which earns Carly a hit in the face with one of Josie s text books which similarly occurs in both texts.
Carly s personality is also revealed in the film when Josie narrates: because at St Martha s it s all
about money, prestige and what your father does for a living. Carly, it seems, was brought up among
wealthy racists and therefore affecting her behaviour. Furthermore, Carly and Poison Ivy may share
similarities to their combined character in the film but this creates differences with the character
development in the novel. One of the significant differences between the two texts is that the film
combines the characters of Carly and Ivy. Thus, creating an antagonist who is John Barton s friend,
high level of intelligence, the role of school captain, a racist mindset and Josie s biggest rival. In the
novel, however, Josie and Ivy are able to form a bond because of John s suicide. This is evident when
Josie offers to Ivy: If we go to the same university and we bump into each other one day, let s have a
cappuccino and talk. (pg. 242). In contrary, after John s death in the film, a cold Carly questions Josie
and her group of friends: What is it with wogs? This obviously not being the beginning to a friendship
that eventually exists in the novel. Therefore, Carly and Ivy are two

Executive Summary
From our DCF calculations, the value of Torrington as a stand alone entity is $1.181 billion. However,
the maximum purchase price for Torrington should only be $641 million. The optimum debt amount
for this transaction would be $301 million. This amount of debt would result in a total debt to capital
ratio for Torrington of 47%, within the range for a BBB investment grade debt rating. The combined
entities, Torrington Timken, would produce an interest coverage ratio of 3.2, and a debt ratio of 45%,
again within the range for a BBB debt rating. The purchase would likely be a cash transaction.

in our calculations, as this company exhibited dramatic value differences to others in the sample,
(likely to skew our results and prove misleading). Using the average of the revised sample field for
each ratio, we inserted Torrington s values where appropriate to generate an entity value. The findings
generated two values for Torrington, 606 million and 398 million. Taking the average of these two
numbers, Torrington exhibited a relative value of 502.41 million. Because of the lack of related
information given in the case, and the often large differences in measures amongst competitors,
different capital structures, internal management strategies, there remained many unknowns in our
model. We decided it would be best to use this valuation to reaffirm our assumptions in our DCF
valuation. (Please see exhibits)
DCF Model Based on information given, we established the free cash flows from operations for
Torrington, for the period 1999 to 2007. We made the assumption that net working capital was 7% of
sales for Torrington, based on historic patterns. From this assumption, we found Change in Net
Working Capital for the selected years. Next, we chose a value for Capital Expenditures , again based
on historic patterns. From this we computed the Free Cash Flows to the Firm .

Essay on Exploring Death in Death in Venice
Exploring Death in Death in Venice
Death in Venice by Thomas Mann, is a story that deals with mortality on many different levels. There
is the obvious physical death by cholera, and the cyclical death in nature: in the beginning it is spring
and in the end, autumn. We see a kind of death of the ego in Gustav Aschenbach s dreams. Venice
itself is a personification of death, and death is seen as the leitmotif in musical terms. It is also
reflected in the idea of the traveler coming to the end of a long fatiguing journey.
It must also be noted there are no women in the story with prominent roles. The hero s wife is long
dead and his daughter has been married and gone for many years. Any women in the story are merely

psychology ridden age (13) succumbs to an egoless state, not only in the last grotesque dream, but
directly after it in his conscious mind as well. From this point on, Gustav becomes totally shameless.
(We have seen this theme of loss of shame as being a kind of death, and actually leading to literal
death as well, in Salman Rushdie s Shame.)
Mann s use of Venice as a backdrop is critical. Venice, an ancient city, inexorably sinking beneath the
water, a forbidden spot (38) with stagnant lagoons (28) the fallen queen of the sea (36). Venice, with a
faintly rotten scent (37) half fairy tale, half snare (55) that hid sickness for love of gain . . . (56). The
city that had a disreputable secret [like] his own (57).
In musical terms, death is the leitmotif, the theme keeps reappearing: heard in the overture (the first
stranger Aschenbach sees in Munich), continually sounded in the Venetian passages (more odd men),
swelling to a crescendo of hysterical laughter and swirling pipes of Pan, and, in the

Ethica Ethical Consumerism
You have just been asked to donate money to an anonymous person every day; you will never see their
face and know their name. You likely hold a closer bond with your favorite childhood Disney
character than you do to them. And so, you reply with a polite, no, sorry because you reason that it is
not in your financial interest to dole out your hard earned salary to strangers. Yet, despite the logic
behind your refusal to make daily donations to an anonymous person, you are nonetheless being
economically irrational when you shop ethically. This is because the premium you pay for ethical
goods and services is equivalent to the daily donation that you would make as it also benefits a
random, unacquainted person at the expense of your savings. It is apparent in ethical consumerism that
economic rationality is overruled by ethics. This begs the question: how do ethics supersede rational
economic behavior in consumer choices in ethical consumerism? ... Show more content on

the higher order need of esteem after meeting their basic needs; and so, it is psychologically
reasonable when people who have met their basic needs, such as those with relatively higher income,

shopping ethically because aiding others reassures the consumers of their importance in society; such
behavior is evident in the ethical consumerist practices of locally sourcing and fair trade, both of

Rewarding Students By Providing Feedback
Rewarding students by providing them with feedback is important to not only help them improve, but
also to provide them with the knowledge that they are doing things right. Not all feedback has to focus
on the negative. It is equally important to share with others areas they succeed in. this will boost
morale and leave them to feel more confident in their work. Feedback is critical to anyone no matter
the type of environment they are working in. Individual and groups can both benefit from feedback.
Leaders that provide feedback are providing followers with resources they may need.
Transformational leaders also work to provide followers with what they need. Women tend to be more
transformational and some would think this would make women leadership more appealing, but I
believe it can be difficult for others to perceive a woman as charismatic and therefore unable to lead in
high positions. If it is difficult for a woman to connect with specific followers they may not be able to
get their vision through to their followers making it impossible to inspire others to jump on board with
certain actions that are taken. Changing this may be difficult, but providing women with opportunities
will give them a chance to prove themselves. My leadership philosophy is based on the idea of giving
others opportunity and making sure moral and ethical standards are kept. A leader s faith, values and
character should all be a priority in their leadership style and should never be risked.

foodways: A historical analysis of origins and survivals in the quote that says, ...this study concludes
that West African food traditions did survive slavery and have affected foodways across cultural lines

aspects of their everyday lives: religion and food. Southern eating and cooking habits were
specifically influenced by African American slaves, who did the majority of cooking on the old
southern plantations (Schiflett 44). There were four main crops on southern plantations, and these
crops were rice, sugar, cotton, and rice. While multiple crops were grown on the plantations, each
plantation chose one cash crop as their main crop. Yet even in a system of assimilation, where
individual needs, desires, and tastes were suppressed, slaves managed to supplement their food
supplies through gardening, gathering, fishing, and hunting (Shiflett 44). In the novel, many different
food choices were presented to the reader. They made rice with molasses, which embodies two of the
major crops at that time. Items such as pork for meat and corn for a starch were also major aspects of a
slave s food choices. Other major food items that were popular throughout Virginia as seen in the
novel were oysters, stews,

often a question whose answer was sought after by numerous women reaching deeper into their minds

Magazine became a great relief to all feminists by giving them a sense of self determination and hope
for the women s movement. Feminist women rarely spoke to each other about their feelings of
subjection and loneliness. These emotions led them to feeling ashamed of themselves due to the
idealistic image of feminists that society felt was so appropriate. She was so ashamed to admit her
dissatisfaction that she never knew how many other women shared it. A huge social advancement and
rather large step towards understanding feminist women at this time was the formation of rap groups.
They are the heart and soul of the Women s Movement. Rap groups were organized and structured
meetings that allowed women to openly engage in one another s thoughts, feelings, and concerns
without the input of men or the rest of society. The rap groups have become mechanisms for social
change in and of themselves. These social groups let women know they were not alone and gave them
hope to believe in women s liberation. Rap groups helped to unify feminist women all over America
and brought them together in a structured interaction. Talking to other women, we came to realize our
oppression by understanding the nature of our upbringing and of our lives as, women. Discussion of
past feelings and experiences led to plans of new reforms and steps to achieving full social equality.

Characteristics Of Learning Individuals With Learning...
Learning disabilities is a general term to describe a group of learning problems. Students with LD are
highly represented in general education classes. LD is the largest single disability area. The cause of
learning disabilities remains unknown but are believed to have been associated with some kind of
brain function. Organic, genetic, and environmental are three major factors that have been
hypothesized as possible causes. Organic factors include indications of brain differences in size or
functioning. Genetic factors include heredity, where a student with a reading/writing problem shares
the same problem with another close family member. Environmental factor includes poor diet and
nutrition as well as exposure to toxins such as alcohol smoke and drug use mostly before birth.
Individuals with learning disabilities possess a variety of characteristics that distinguish them from
other students. However, not all individuals with learning disabilities have all the characteristics
described in this section. Characteristics of Learning disabilities can be found in 1). Language and

there are significant differences between the levels of neuroticism and agreeableness in males and

The Pros And Cons Of The Fourth Amendment
The Fourth Amendment, a portion of the Bill of Rights, was ratified on December fifteenth seventy
ninety one. The Bill of Rights introduces the Fourth Amendment as The right of the people to be
secure in their persons, houses, papers, and effects, against unreasonable searches and seizures, shall
not be violated, and no Warrants shall issue, but upon probable cause, supported by Oath or
affirmation, and particularly describing the place to be searched, and the persons or things to be
seized. (The National Constitution Center, 2016) Not only does this right protect the people as well as
the police officers from perilous situations it also puts limitations in place by removing a small
amount of power from the police. For the police to search and seize people, their property, or their
homes they must first obtain a warrant. Even though there is a great deal of circumstances where
warrants are not required, most searches and seizures will require a warrant that is often cleared by a
judge first. For the judge to justify the search or seizure law enforcement must show probable cause.
American citizens often feel secure when learning about the exclusionary rule in addition to the Fourth
Amendment because it suppresses the United States government s control; Still, there have been times
when American citizens were not thoroughly protected by the Fourth Amendment. The Exclusionary

Psychology And Rational Emotive Behavioral Therapy
This week as I begun to read the theories that include Individual Psychology, Rational Emotive
Behavioral Therapy (REBT), and Cognitive Behavior Therapy I found that choosing which theory that
I identified the most with is getting harder and harder. These theories are so similar. This led me to use
a process of elimination which still left me with two Individual Psychology and Rational Emotive
Behavioral Therapy. Individual Psychology was created by Alfred Adler who was coddled as a child
until another child was born which led to his interest in birth order. Adler worked with Sigmund Freud
and often disagreed with his thought that the motivation of man were solely motivated by sex and
aggression. Adler believe that man was motivated by social influence and striving for superiority. This
indifference is what led to the foundation of Individual Psychology. Adler believed that people were
responsible, creative, connected, social individuals who actions work toward their goals (Henderson
Thompson, 2012, Pg. 345). He believed that all individuals are born helpless and remain that way for
a long period of time causing them to develop inferiority. Inferiority maybe caused by older and more
powerful siblings, or being neglected, rejected, or over pampered by their parents. Individual who
suffer from inferiority will often try to compensate or gain power over the feeling of weakness that
occurs. Mosak and Maniacci (2012), feel that by age 6 children form an idea of how

Because he could see underwater, he reached and successfully grabbed objects at the bottom of the
shallow end of the pool. When observations finished, Suryia improved his swimming and diving
abilities. He swam further distances from the shallow end of the pool to the deep end and became a
stronger swimmer. In the beginning of 2012, Suryia began swimming with his head above water and
now swims further distances. Although Cooper and Suryia learned to swim in two different places and
one was intentionally taught to swim unlike the other they both had similar swimming techniques. In
both situations, the apes were introduced to water in the shallow end of the pool so they could reach
the ground. Then they were slowly presented with deeper levels of water. Ultimately, this shows that
apes are not unable to swim, but they must learn it because they do not have the natural instinct to

  • 2. Communism And Its Effect On Society Man has sought out the perfect form to administer government action and beliefs.. They came up with the idea of Capitalism. Others found that those who were divine should rule. Others sought after a government that offered programs and reforms to the populous and called in socialism. Some thought about having the church run the government, but the theory that many people strive to accomplish is communism. Communism has been tried again and again. The only difference was the people leading the revolutions. The theory to run a government known as communism has been around since the 1840s. This form of government seems great on paper, but fall through after time has past and the government is able to establish itself. Just like a coin, communism has two sides to it. The one side is the idea that everyone is truly equal and their is no class difference at all. While the other side is that almost everyone is equal. Karl Marx who thought of the theory believed that this form of government was the best form of government and explained it in his book the Communist Manifesto. While the british author George Orwell s sought against this form of government because he saw what happened when communism becomes the part of the government.. In his novel 1984 even though it s a fictional world he demonstrates what communism turns into. He shows that it always turn into an oppressive dictatorship or oligarchy. • 3. The Australian Red Cross Blood Service Essay 1. Context and Problem The Australian Red Cross Blood Service (ARCBS) has identified a long standing issue of poor repeat blood donation from young donors, in particular males. While this group of the population has a high number of new donors, it has been found they are also the least loyal, which poses a problem for both current and future blood stocks. As a marketing consultancy firm, we have been commissioned to analyse the issues surrounding blood donation in Australia, and to devise three cost effective marketing strategies aimed at increasing repeat donation from this demographic. 2. Literature Review The topic of blood donation well researched, with strategies having been devised to try and increase donation rates all over the world. Australia faces a challenging set of circumstances, in which remuneration for donation is illegal (ARCBS, 2013). It is thought this may be a contributing factor to the poor repeat donation rates in youth demographics, for whom altruism is no longer a primary driving factor when considering donation (Russell Bennett, Hartel, Previte Russel, 2012). Since the iconic work by Titmuss (1970), blood donation has been considered one of the only true altruistic behaviours, and many marketing strategies have been engineered around this concept. Several authors, however, have argued that blood donation is not a case of true altruism , and is actually a case of impure altruism , whereby the donor receives personal utility and improvement ... • 4. No Ordinary Disruption By Richard Dobbs Overview As our venture capital firm prepares to take the plunge into global investment, it is vital that we understand all the forces at work. In the book No Ordinary Disruption by Richard Dobbs, James Manyika, and Jonathan Woetzel, they examine four forces that are changing our world and as a result our business and leadership. This executive summary examines the fourth force of, Greater Global Connections specifically focusing on Chapter 4, Trade, People, Finance and Data. As Dobbs, Manyika and Woetzel walk us through their theory and evidence, it is clear that their analysis is well founded and appropriate. Greater Global Connections Trade in Goods and Services o Trade today is not just located in North America and Western Europe; trade is now a complex web that includes Asia, Latin America and Africa. o South to South trade, meaning trade between developing countries, accounts for 40 percent of all goods flow. The expansion of trade into these new regions is by reason of technological advances and economic growth and increasing numbers of consumers. o Companies of all sizes and kind can now participate in trade, for instance trade is no longer just about manufacturing clothing but robotics and other more advance goods. Finance o Money is the new commodity because of it ease of transference and makes trade possible. o As represented with trade, developing countries are starting to become a source of and just a receiver of capital flow; assets are ... • 5. Tree Kangaroo Welfare Essay Matschie s tree kangaroo (Dendrolagus matschiei) population is declining significantly, so to conserve this species, captive breeding programs have been conducted in zoos. Research has shown presence of visitors can have negative impacts on animal welfare, but the welfare implications of visitors on tree kangaroos have not yet been examined. The aim of this study is to determine the impact of visitor presences on Matschie s tree kangaroo welfare. In this experiment, 10 tree kangaroos will be examined by testing two treatment groups: no visitor contact and exposure to visitors. Treatment groups will be tested for 1 day period in a total of 10 study days and 5 days for each treatment group. Instantaneous point sampling and continuous sampling ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This is because while zoos try to raise awareness on conservation programs by allowing visitors to have a close interaction with animals, this however sometimes comes at the expense of the animals welfare (Calyton, Fraser, Saunders, 2009).Research has suggested that visitors can affect animal behaviour and stress physiology even when animals are separated by barriers (Fernandez et al., 2009). A recent study has indicated that when exposed to visitors, the level of vigilance increased in both Kangaroo Island kangaroos and Red kangaroos. Furthermore, Kangaroo Island kangaroos would increase time spent in locomotion and decrease time spent on resting (Sherwen, 2015). In addition, previous studies have shown that social factors and conditions of confinement have proven to cause stress for tree kangaroos (Hutchins et al., 1991). As a consequence, this reduces the chances of reproductive success, thus zoo populations are declining. A more detailed understanding of tree kangaroo behaviour and stress triggers is needed to advance the reproductive success of this endangered ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 6. My Papa s Waltz And For My Daughter Throughout the second half of this semester, we have read poems that all had some type of comparison. It may not have been an obvious comparison, but most of these poems had at least one. In the poems, My Papa s Waltz and For My Daughter, both describe a beloved family member. They both put in clear detail of the positive and negative things about said family member. These poems both describe someone misunderstanding or mistreating another. It is amazing how each of these poems can describe or be told about a certain problem and how they all can relate in some type of way. The reason behind that is because everyone no matter who they are all goes through the same situations as the next person. Whether it is, gender, age, religion, race or even education, there is something that can connect one to another. In the poem, My Papa s Waltz, by Theodore Roethke, the narrator is the small boy mentioned in the second line. He thoroughly describes every little thing about what his father is doing; this shows the large amount of imagery in the poem. This connection is obviously between a boy and his father; hence the title of the poem. Speaking of the title of the poem, it is exactly what is named. A waltz is a song written in ¾ time, this is normally a very intimate type of dance (Shmoop). There may be a danced being performed, but do not be fooled. Eventually, we realize that this poem is a lot worse that what most would originally think. This poem quickly goes from good ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 7. The Crucible and The Salem Witch Trials by Arthur Miller... Arthur Miller wrote plays as a way of showing people the real picture of what life was really like during the Great Depression and after World War II. Before the Great Depression many Americans were living in a significant time period, the Roaring Twenties. People had radios, automobiles, and movies with sounds. Then it all suddenly came to an end with the Stock Market Crash, leading to the Great Depression. During the Great Depression, Americans faced poverty, and had no income because jobs weren t available. Throughout his life Miller influenced many people with his plays, and his contributions to this day because people want to read and understand what was truly happening in past history. For example, The Crucible is a play about the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... However, their marriage spiraled downward and they eventually divorced. While Miller was married to his first wife, he had an affair with Marilyn Monroe, who later would become his wife. Marilyn Monroe was a great influence in his life inspiring him to write After the Fall (1964), which was an open portrayal of his marriage with Monroe. Arthur s purpose for writing literature was to unmask the problems and issues of capitalism so the people could have a fair understanding of the truth but in his plays rather than newspapers and magazines. In the nineteen fifty s, Miller was starting to go downhill. During this time, one of Millers most popular and recognized works; The Crucible was playing on Broadway. The Crucible showed a relationship with the Communist Red Scare that America was facing during this. The Communist Red Scare took place shortly after the end of World War I. It was a nationwide fear of communist, socialists, and other fears America was facing. Since the Red Scare was such a big deal to many Americans during this time in American history, Millers face drastically declined. With the production of Millers, The Crucible, it brought more attention and suspicion on Miller. In the middle of the nineteen fifty s, he was called to testify in front of the House Committee on Un American Activity, today known ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Additionally, the combination of S. epidermidis or S. haemolyticus with M. luteus demonstrated coaggregation. However, no coaggregating pairs exhibited the high scores as presented by the positive control paring of A. naeslundii ATCC 12104 and S. sanguinis CR2B, which resemble the findings of the previous study.41 From the data presented here, it is clear that the microorganism were isolated from same contact lens cases exhibited coaggregation properties which is identical to the findings of the coaggregating pair of ocular isolates between P. aeruginosa and S. aureus. ... There was a reduction in the growth of M. luteus with Staphylococcus spp; although the contrary was expressed in cohesion assay. The current study also has investigated the inhibitory effect of lactose, sucrose and pronase in the coaggregation. Sato et al (1984) demonstrated that coaggregation between actinomycetes and streptococci occurred via lectin like substances (i.e. substances similar or identical to proteins that bind sugars) on the surface of actinomycetes with carbohydrate(s) on the surface of streptococci.47 Pre treating Staphylococcus spp. with lactose and sucrose inhibited the coaggregation which indicates the involvement of Staphylococci lectins in the coaggregation which again resembles the finding of the previous study. The ocular isolates of S. aureus and S. epidermidis inhibited the coaggregation with P. aeruginosa and S. marcescens when pre treated with lactose or sucrose.41 However, the selected inhibitory sugars were unable to stop coaggregation with Micrococcus spp. and Acinetobacter spp. which need ... Born in Liège in 1822, Franck received his musical instruction at the age of eight at Liège Conservatoire. In 1834, he gave the first public concert in Liège. After moving to Paris in 1835, Frank entered the Conservatoire where he studied counterpoint with Leborne and piano with Zimmermann. It was during his student years at the Paris Conservatoire which Franck composed his first serious works, three trios for piano, violin and cello, that foreshadows his late style music, concluding the early use of cyclic form. The Commercialization of Sport According to Brad Austin (2015), the US university programs on athletics has created tangible links between the authorities of the institution and the alumni group in two ways. One is legitimizing and codifying the alumni interest in men s and women s sports. To do this, they even have provided alumni representatives in the athletic governing body. The second one, is the coordination of various alumni events with the yearly homecoming events in the universities of the US. It has been found that the American leaders used to utilize these homecoming events to rejuvenate the spirit and affinity among the people of the country during the decades of the early twentieth century. Thus, the universities were used to get affected by this political interest. This political interest enhanced the initial steps towards commercialization of homecoming. This amount of debt would result in a total debt to capital ratio for Torrington of 47%, within the range for a BBB investment grade debt rating. The combined entities, Torrington Timken, would produce an interest coverage ratio of 3.2, and a debt ratio of 45%, again within the range for a BBB debt rating. The purchase would likely be a cash transaction. History Founded by carriage maker Henry Timken in 1899 in St. Louis, Missouri, the Timken Company was ... Using the average of the revised sample field for each ratio, we inserted Torrington s values where appropriate to generate an entity value. The findings generated two values for Torrington, 606 million and 398 million. Taking the average of these two numbers, Torrington exhibited a relative value of 502.41 million. Because of the lack of related information given in the case, and the often large differences in measures amongst competitors, different capital structures, internal management strategies, there remained many unknowns in our model. We decided it would be best to use this valuation to reaffirm our assumptions in our DCF valuation. (Please see exhibits) DCF Model Based on information given, we established the free cash flows from operations for Torrington, for the period 1999 to 2007. We made the assumption that net working capital was 7% of sales for Torrington, based on historic patterns. From this assumption, we found Change in Net Working Capital for the selected years. Next, we chose a value for Capital Expenditures , again based on historic patterns. From this we computed the Free Cash Flows to the Firm . • 31. Essay on Exploring Death in Death in Venice Exploring Death in Death in Venice Death in Venice by Thomas Mann, is a story that deals with mortality on many different levels. There is the obvious physical death by cholera, and the cyclical death in nature: in the beginning it is spring and in the end, autumn. We see a kind of death of the ego in Gustav Aschenbach s dreams. Venice itself is a personification of death, and death is seen as the leitmotif in musical terms. It is also reflected in the idea of the traveler coming to the end of a long fatiguing journey. It must also be noted there are no women in the story with prominent roles. The hero s wife is long dead and his daughter has been married and gone for many years. Any women in the story are merely in ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... 9, 14). It is ironic that Aschenbach, who had written his book The Abject as a rebuke to the excess of a psychology ridden age (13) succumbs to an egoless state, not only in the last grotesque dream, but directly after it in his conscious mind as well. From this point on, Gustav becomes totally shameless. (We have seen this theme of loss of shame as being a kind of death, and actually leading to literal death as well, in Salman Rushdie s Shame.) Mann s use of Venice as a backdrop is critical. Venice, an ancient city, inexorably sinking beneath the water, a forbidden spot (38) with stagnant lagoons (28) the fallen queen of the sea (36). Venice, with a faintly rotten scent (37) half fairy tale, half snare (55) that hid sickness for love of gain . . . (56). The city that had a disreputable secret [like] his own (57). In musical terms, death is the leitmotif, the theme keeps reappearing: heard in the overture (the first stranger Aschenbach sees in Munich), continually sounded in the Venetian passages (more odd men), swelling to a crescendo of hysterical laughter and swirling pipes of Pan, and, in the ... • 32. Ethica Ethical Consumerism You have just been asked to donate money to an anonymous person every day; you will never see their face and know their name. You likely hold a closer bond with your favorite childhood Disney character than you do to them. And so, you reply with a polite, no, sorry because you reason that it is not in your financial interest to dole out your hard earned salary to strangers. Yet, despite the logic behind your refusal to make daily donations to an anonymous person, you are nonetheless being economically irrational when you shop ethically. This is because the premium you pay for ethical goods and services is equivalent to the daily donation that you would make as it also benefits a random, unacquainted person at the expense of your savings. It is apparent in ethical consumerism that economic rationality is overruled by ethics. This begs the question: how do ethics supersede rational economic behavior in consumer choices in ethical consumerism? ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The psychological argument based on Maslow s hierarchy of needs argues that people would pursue the higher order need of esteem after meeting their basic needs; and so, it is psychologically reasonable when people who have met their basic needs, such as those with relatively higher income, to pursue esteem over economic reasoning. Those consumers can then attain such self worth by shopping ethically because aiding others reassures the consumers of their importance in society; such behavior is evident in the ethical consumerist practices of locally sourcing and fair trade, both of which seek to uphold fair living standards for ... • 33. Rewarding Students By Providing Feedback Rewarding students by providing them with feedback is important to not only help them improve, but also to provide them with the knowledge that they are doing things right. Not all feedback has to focus on the negative. It is equally important to share with others areas they succeed in. this will boost morale and leave them to feel more confident in their work. Feedback is critical to anyone no matter the type of environment they are working in. Individual and groups can both benefit from feedback. Leaders that provide feedback are providing followers with resources they may need. Transformational leaders also work to provide followers with what they need. Women tend to be more transformational and some would think this would make women leadership more appealing, but I believe it can be difficult for others to perceive a woman as charismatic and therefore unable to lead in high positions. If it is difficult for a woman to connect with specific followers they may not be able to get their vision through to their followers making it impossible to inspire others to jump on board with certain actions that are taken. Changing this may be difficult, but providing women with opportunities will give them a chance to prove themselves. My leadership philosophy is based on the idea of giving others opportunity and making sure moral and ethical standards are kept. A leader s faith, values and character should all be a priority in their leadership style and should never be risked. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Many cultures were contributing to the abundantly laid table. Gronim writes: New York had not attracted huge waves of colonists. By the turn of the eighteenth century, a census counted a mere eighteen thousand people (including slaves) (3). New York was where our protagonist, the Vaarks, Florens, their African American slave, Lina, their Native American slave, Sorrow, an orphan, and their two indentured British servants are living. (Shiflett 2). In the time of African American slaves, there were two extremely important aspects of their everyday lives: religion and food. Southern eating and cooking habits were specifically influenced by African American slaves, who did the majority of cooking on the old southern plantations (Schiflett 44). There were four main crops on southern plantations, and these crops were rice, sugar, cotton, and rice. While multiple crops were grown on the plantations, each plantation chose one cash crop as their main crop. Yet even in a system of assimilation, where individual needs, desires, and tastes were suppressed, slaves managed to supplement their food supplies through gardening, gathering, fishing, and hunting (Shiflett 44). In the novel, many different food choices were presented to the reader. They made rice with molasses, which embodies two of the major crops at that time. Items such as pork for meat and corn for a starch were also major aspects of a slave s food choices. Other major food items that were popular throughout Virginia as seen in the novel were oysters, stews, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Magazine became a great relief to all feminists by giving them a sense of self determination and hope for the women s movement. Feminist women rarely spoke to each other about their feelings of subjection and loneliness. These emotions led them to feeling ashamed of themselves due to the idealistic image of feminists that society felt was so appropriate. She was so ashamed to admit her dissatisfaction that she never knew how many other women shared it. A huge social advancement and rather large step towards understanding feminist women at this time was the formation of rap groups. They are the heart and soul of the Women s Movement. Rap groups were organized and structured meetings that allowed women to openly engage in one another s thoughts, feelings, and concerns without the input of men or the rest of society. The rap groups have become mechanisms for social change in and of themselves. These social groups let women know they were not alone and gave them hope to believe in women s liberation. Rap groups helped to unify feminist women all over America and brought them together in a structured interaction. Talking to other women, we came to realize our oppression by understanding the nature of our upbringing and of our lives as, women. • 39. The Pros And Cons Of The Fourth Amendment The Fourth Amendment, a portion of the Bill of Rights, was ratified on December fifteenth seventy ninety one. The Bill of Rights introduces the Fourth Amendment as The right of the people to be secure in their persons, houses, papers, and effects, against unreasonable searches and seizures, shall not be violated, and no Warrants shall issue, but upon probable cause, supported by Oath or affirmation, and particularly describing the place to be searched, and the persons or things to be seized. (The National Constitution Center, 2016) Not only does this right protect the people as well as the police officers from perilous situations it also puts limitations in place by removing a small amount of power from the police. For the police to search and seize people, their property, or their homes they must first obtain a warrant. Even though there is a great deal of circumstances where warrants are not required, most searches and seizures will require a warrant that is often cleared by a judge first. For the judge to justify the search or seizure law enforcement must show probable cause. American citizens often feel secure when learning about the exclusionary rule in addition to the Fourth Amendment because it suppresses the United States government s control; Still, there have been times when American citizens were not thoroughly protected by the Fourth Amendment. • 40. Psychology And Rational Emotive Behavioral Therapy This week as I begun to read the theories that include Individual Psychology, Rational Emotive Behavioral Therapy (REBT), and Cognitive Behavior Therapy I found that choosing which theory that I identified the most with is getting harder and harder. These theories are so similar. This led me to use a process of elimination which still left me with two Individual Psychology and Rational Emotive Behavioral Therapy. Individual Psychology was created by Alfred Adler who was coddled as a child until another child was born which led to his interest in birth order. Adler worked with Sigmund Freud and often disagreed with his thought that the motivation of man were solely motivated by sex and aggression. Adler believe that man was motivated by social influence and striving for superiority. This indifference is what led to the foundation of Individual Psychology. Adler believed that people were responsible, creative, connected, social individuals who actions work toward their goals (Henderson Thompson, 2012, Pg. 345). He believed that all individuals are born helpless and remain that way for a long period of time causing them to develop inferiority. Inferiority maybe caused by older and more powerful siblings, or being neglected, rejected, or over pampered by their parents. Individual who suffer from inferiority will often try to compensate or gain power over the feeling of weakness that occurs. It also presents a hypothesis to discover the lack of instinct for swimming in primates and humans. The research started with two types of apes: a chimpanzee, Cooper, and an orangutan, Suryia. Both were raised around humans and showed an interest in water at young ages. Cooper began dunking his head in the bathtub at age four and later in the shallow end of a pool and Suryia was bathed each day at age seven months ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In the beginning of 2012, Suryia began swimming with his head above water and now swims further distances. Although Cooper and Suryia learned to swim in two different places and one was intentionally taught to swim unlike the other they both had similar swimming techniques. In both situations, the apes were introduced to water in the shallow end of the pool so they could reach the ground. Then they were slowly presented with deeper levels of water.
