Catholic Community
The Catholic Church is an ancient community that has been studied and analyzed since it s
beginnings, over two thousand years ago. When I was fourteen, I chose independently to be apart of
this community and learn it s specific, complex structure. It took me about five years to really get a
grasp on the functions of the Catholic Church and the community it provides. Entering, I believed the
Church was simply a place people gathered to worship, but over time it proved to be much more than
that. Being a member of the Catholic community meant, not only, being literate in the language of the
Church and the sacred, fundamental texts but additionally, being literate in the specific genres that
help the Catholic community accomplish its goals. Some ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Equally as important as the old, customary texts are the new, ever changing ones. In my parish, and in
Catholic parishes through out the world, weekly bulletins are handed out giving information about
what the Catholic Church is doing in your community and how you can get involved. New Catholic
literature is being published every day, ranging anywhere from an a deeper understanding of the
Church to advice on how to live a life in accordance with the Church. There are an endless amount of
message boards and forums, Facebook groups, text message groups, the list continues. The importance
of writing and rhetoric within the Catholic community is immense. If new literature was never being
written, the Catholic community would cease to evolve and the mission of the Church could not be
achieved. The writings of all members, ordained or lay, are essential to the Catholic community. These
two categories of texts within the Catholic community, the old and the new , are not entirely separate,
though. Texts formed today by ordained ministers of the Church, teachers in the community, and lay
people are branches off of the initial texts that form the foundation of the Church. Recently published
books, journals or blogs by Catholic authors regularly reference sacred, fundamental texts of the
community. Michael Rennier is a Catholic blogger who posts his writings on a Catholic

The Pros And Cons Of Multimarket Competition
Multimarket contact involves firms simultaneous competition against one another in multiple product
and/or geographical markets (Haveman and Nonnemaker, 2000; Korn and Baum, 1999) or in
international markets (countries) (Yu, Subramaniam, and Cannella, 2009). Prior research on
multimarket competition has examined exploitation in mature markets (Bowers, Greve, Mitsuhashi,
and Baum, 2014; Gimeno, 1999; Greve, 2008; Guedri and McGuire, 2011) such as geographic
markets (Fuentelsaz and Gómez, 2006; Greve, 2000) and sales growth (Greve, 2008) rather than
exploration in immature markets. In fact, external environments may affect the evolution and
dynamics of rival markets. Each competitor s market may rely on upstream, downstream, and

Here, alliance diversification, which is analogous to corporate diversification, is defined as a blurring
of diverse alliance boundaries to combine various types of alliances, including intra industry alliances,
such as vertical upstream and downstream alliances in the industry value chain; horizontal alliances
within an industry (Rindfleisch and Moorman, 2001); and intra industry exploration, exploitation, and
ambidextrous alliances. This article also examines cross industry alliances that are formed through
cooperation with partners in other related and/or unrelated industries (Mayrhofer, 2004); cross
industry exploration, exploitation, and ambidextrous alliances; and hybrid alliances (e.g., intra
industry and cross industry alliance portfolios). From ambidexterity and legitimacy perspectives as
well as mutant based innovation, this article presents four types of alliance diversification
ambidextrous alliance portfolios, sequential ambidextrous alliances, mutant alliances, and mutant
alliance portfolios to examine how followers move into diverse multimarket ecosystems for
innovation and value creation (Lansiti and Levien, 2004) and from cross industry alliances to intra

Beth Fennelly s Poetry Essay
Beth Ann Fennelly and Tom Franklin read a few of their pieces at a public reading. Beth Fennelly
writes poetry and short stories while her husband Tom read sections of longer fiction pieces. The two
even combined to write a novel that they shared a bit of!
Beth started the readings off alone, reading a few of her poems and short stories. The first poem that
she read was a love poem of sort. It was the story of what would have been if she had met her husband
at an earlier time. Beth is from Chicago, but the story takes place in Tom s home state of Alabama. I
loved the alliteration in a few of the lines. Dumb as dalmatians and plaid pajamas (although out of
context), sounded smooth rolling off the tongue of the speaker. The poem was a great selection for the
reading because it showed the deep bond that the two share.
Beth read several stories that were extremely short. Even shorter than William Carlos Williams Red
Wheelbarrow. The stories were less than four lines, some as short as one or two lines. Although short,
the stories were able to convey a lot of emotion. My favorite short poem was called Married Love. It
went something along the lines of My ex boyfriend s ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The Safety Man is about a man who is anything but safe. He drinks on work nights several times
throughout the story. He bought a dog and drunkenly left it at the pound. He took several pills and
drank on them. The story had a very solemn tone to it. You could tell that the man was in a downward
spiral. The story climaxed in a scene where the safety man gets into a fight with a coworker because
he is hungover and unshaven at work. Once the man is suspended from work he realizes how
important his job is to his life. Everything he does revolves around his job. This realization in the story
hits home in my heart because it makes me think about how important school is to me right now.

The tort of negligence to be constituted depend on whether the defendant violate the principle of Duty

Chapter 16 Externalities
Consumers and producers are internal to a transaction. Consumers receive a benefit from the goods
they purchase, while producers pay the costs of production. An externality (sometimes called a
spillover) is a cost or benefit that goes to someone external to a transaction. Pollution is a negative
(cost) externality. Education and research create a positive externality. Externalities can result from
consumption or production.
2
An Example:
Suppose that the costs of raising livestock are mostly borne by the rancher, but there is a spillover
cost. Streams nearby get polluted, and this affects people (and other species) who use the stream as
well as spinach farmers who also use the water for irrigation. ... Show more content on

Consider the case of stream pollution by livestock
Suppose the cost of preventing stream pollution is lower than the cost to spinach producers and other
users of the stream. If spinach farmers have the right to clean water, then ranchers will not be willing
to pay spinach farmers enough, and will be forced to prevent the pollution. If ranchers have the right
to pollute the water, then spinach farmers would be willing to pay them enough to prevent it. Either
way, the stream will not be polluted, and this is the most efficient outcome.
14
Suppose that costs are too high
Suppose the cost of preventing stream pollution is higher than the cost to spinach producers and other
users of the stream. If spinach farmers have the right to clean water, then ranchers will be willing to
pay spinach farmers enough to allow pollution of the stream. If ranchers have the right to pollute the
water, then spinach farmers would not be willing to pay them enough to prevent it. Either way, the
stream will be polluted, and this is the most efficient outcome.

What Can Possibly Go Wrong?
Perhaps nobody owns a clear right to the stream. Sometimes clear rights are impossible to assign. In
some countries it is due to a flawed legal system. The property right may be unenforceable. The
externality may affect those unable to organize or negotiate in their interests. Transaction costs may be

Implementation Of The Dayton Agreement
This paper analyzes the Dayton Peace Accords initialed in Dayton, Ohio, and later signed in Paris. The
Dayton agreement was an augmentation of and or arguably a follow up result of the previously
pursued peace efforts and processes (Church, para 1), this paper, however, will only focus on the
negotiation process that took place in the US, which resulted in attainment of the Dayton Agreement.
The negotiation process will be analyzed within a combined framework of Habeeb s Formula Detail
Approach and mediation detailed by Pruitt and Kim, both of which will serve as the primary and
overarching basis for this analysis. However, relevant course materials will be used as deemed
necessary while analyzing various aspects of the negotiation process such as the strategies employed
by the negotiating parties, and the complexities special to this case, which expanded the mediating
role of the US to tackle important barriers in order to reach an agreement.
The Negotiation Framework: Habeeb reviews the literature on the common processes used in
negotiations and thus agreeing with Zartman, advocates the formal detail approach. Zartman s
approach is well structured and parsimonious. The concession and convergence school of analysis
developed the offer counteroffer (Habbeeb 27) structure for the negotiation process. The approach is
grounded in the notion that the negotiating parties make demands, propose new solution, make
concessions, and evaluate concession behavior and reactions

Persuasive Essay On Online Bullying
In today s progressive world, I believe it is better to consider online bullying in an immersed online
ethnographic research method, in order to fully understand how bullying is enacted in an online world.
It s also important to take this approach in order to understand what s misunderstood about online
bullying as a whole. Boyd (2010) states that if we are to know if online platforms act as a tool for
teenagers to perpetuate violence in the real world , we must look at what they are doing online. Boyd
finds that bullying does not dramatically go up or down when social media is introduced (Boyd 2015,
152). Digital spaces that are important in the lives of youth need to be understand both locally, and in
global contexts. Mallan, Ashford and Singh s (2010) article discusses iscapes as a way for todays
youth to hang out or communicate. The authors seek to answer the question, how do interactions
across iscapes affect the identity work carried out by today s youth. ( Mallan et al. 2010, 265).
Decheneaut et al. (2010) looks at an immersive ethnography in several online digital worlds. Bonilla
and Rosa state boldly that by using social media as their platform, subscribers can demand public
attention, and garner the attention from anthropologists by using hashtags (Bonilla et al. 2015, 5).
Technology changes how bullying is acted out, furthermore we consider online ethnographic
fieldwork in relationship to bullying as a real and viable part of anthropological studies.

Southern Black Women
Since the enslavement of blacks, black women have played an integral role in mothering America s
population, both literally and figuratively. During slavery, slave masters often impregnated slaves for
two reasons: to further populate their own plantation or to prepare to sale them to make a profit. About
100 years later, though slavery had ended, a majority of black women found work by working as a
maid, also known as the help, for wealthy white families. As part of their job, black women were often
the sole caretakers of the children. In these jobs, black women in the South served as a cook,
housekeeper, nursemaid, or some combination of the three. By analyzing the role of southern black
women as mothers, two specific things are revealed: black southern mothers are forced to live a
twofold complicated life and they serve as the cornerstone for both white and black southern
households. In recognizing these two things, there is a better understanding of the vital role that black
women play in the American South.
Beginning during slavery, black women have never only mothered just their own children. They were
required to care for the slave masters children, while also mothering entire populations. In the early
1900s, these responsibilities were still present, only ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Movie Review of On the Waterfront
Reaction: On the Waterfront (1956) Even before I saw Eli Kazan s On the Waterfront, I was familiar
with the line of Marlon Brando s: I could have been a contender. I knew, even before watching the
film, that Brando played an ex boxer with broken dreams. I also knew that the film had been made
during the McCarthy era, around the time of the red scare. In the film, Brando s character Terry
Malloy witnesses a murder, and is encouraged to turn in the perpetrators, even though his union bosses
are involved. The film portrays the dockworker Malloy s decision to come forward as a heroic one,
partially rooted in his love for the dead man s sister Edie. (Edie s brother was killed for the same
reason as Terry is being persecuted he informed on the union bosses). Knowing the back story of the
film, I felt somewhat uncomfortable rooting for Brando to turn in his bosses, given that the film could
be read as a defense of turning in people during the McCarthy era. The film portrays unions as made
up of villains. Malloy is one of them a union member until he becomes so tormented by his conscience
he cannot help but come forward. He cannot live with himself unless he speaks. Eventually, because
of the public courage of his convictions, the other longshoremen side with Terry. The film is powerful
as a story in and of itself, regardless of what the director intended it to symbolize. It can be read as an
indictment of corruption and concealment in all industries, as members

Jury Vs Jury
Kenneth Eade once said, You never know with juries. I d take a judge every time, unless of course I
was guilty. This quote stuck out because of the idea that it sets on what a judge and jury is. That he
knows the judge would call him guilty if he was, but there is doubt drawn to the jury. That is why
juries today need to be evaluated to determine the successfulness of it.
Juries date back to 1066 and some speculate even before then. Since then, it has varied between 6 or
12 jury members and this is isn t because of any serious flaws, it is just how it went(Hans and
Vidmar.) Juries are used to be the deciding factor in many different types of cases; murder, thievery,
abuse, or stealing. Juries are backed by many articles in the Constitution; such as Article III Section 2,
The Sixth Amendment, and the Seventh Amendment. Article III Section Two states that The trial of all
crimes shall be by jury and such trial shall be held in the state where the said crimes have been
committed. The Sixth Amendment guarantees and quick and speedy trial with an unbiased jury.

useful tool that they use is prepping the witness. This is extremely crucial because lawyers will try and

College is not very much for everyone and doesn t have to be. College is not worth it because parents

The Importance Of Power In A Tale Of Two Cities
The poet Percy Bysshe Shelley (1792 1822) explains the effects of power on society in his quote,
Power, like a desolating pestilence, Pollutes whate er it touches . Shelley compares power to a disease,
almost like a plague that can eradicate an entire town. In whom this power is bestowed upon will
desecrate the entire society around them. On the contrary, this quote is challenged as well as defended
in the novel, A Tale of Two Cities by Charles Dickens. Characters such as both Monseigneurs St.
Evremonds and Madame Defarge embody strong aristocratic or noble roles that have radicalized
France. As well as this, they have engendered great deaths and hatred from people in the third estates
due to their unjustified actions. However, people like Charles Darnay are great rebuttals to Shelley s
argument, because even though he is an aristocrat of France, he actually gives up his own power. He
doesn t allow his placing in society to define nor dictate his actions or morals. The older looking twin

Hope for peace is difficult to have and even more difficult to maintain. This is especially true when
throughout history we have been taught that war, domination, and destruction are the only ways to

regarded as two of the greatest histories of all time and these stories give the impression that violence
and war are inevitable and even desirable. Our history is full of stories and influences like these, yet

about the issues. An article in the Left Business Observer stated that many people don t want to know
what goes on in the world. They re aware on some level that their government does terrible things, but
they d rather not hear about it. It goes on to say that it is not even apathy, but an active desire not to
know. I agree with the article, but I also see a huge possibility for change. My father is a perfect
example of why I have hope for all those who are apathetic. My father grew up in a conservative
household, is registered as a republican, and he had no reason to stretch his comfortable life as a
white, wealthy, American male. When his father died, he found a new passion for education and
making it affordable to all people, which was a primary concern for his father. He acts to the extent
that he can, and that is exactly enough. People come with different passions, capabilities, and skills
and all are needed. The little changes made will open the floodgates to many other opportunities to

XML Signature Essay
1.1. XML Signature
Due to increased distribution of XML in cloud computing, the demand for strong and active safety
mechanism on XML signature enlarged as well. A dangerous possible risk for cloud computing
security is the XML signature. XML Signature is a method, which is used to deliver consistency,
integrity and message confirmation, for various types of data. An XML signature would describe a
sequence of XML elements that could be inserted in, or otherwise link with, any XML file. It would
allow the receiver to confirm that the message has not been altered from what the sender planned.
XML signature used remote key and free key to mark a message and authenticate the file, respectively.

1.3 Metadata Spoofing Attack
In this type of attack, an opponent alters or changes the service s Web Services Description Language
file where explanations about service examples are stored. If the opponent succeeds to interrupt
service request code from WSDL file at distributing time, then this attack can be possible. Since
Metadata documents are distributed using communication procedures like HTTP or e mail they are
expected to open the options of spoofing attacks. It is likely for attackers to maliciously modify the
content of the WSDL file and allocate them across all the Web service clients. This has serious costs
and security effects.
To overcome such an attack, information about services and applications should be kept in encrypted
form. Strong authentication (and authorization) should be enforced for accessing such critical in

Sight And Blindness In Oedipus The King
Pushed to the last breaking point, Teiresias finally reveals the truth that the audience has been waiting
for. However, instead of the anticipated cathartic climax to release the accumulated dramatic tension
and irony from Oedipus s misguided pursuit of the truth, the play bombards the audience with still
more tension and tragic irony in an emotional roller coaster as Oedipus and Iocaste attempts to run
away from their inevitable fate. Oedipus refuses to believe the truth Teiresias reveals. Wrongly
equating physical sight with mental insight, wit, and sense, he taunts Teiresias for his physical
blindness, calling him a sightless, witless, senseless, mad old man! (20) Reciprocating Oedipus insult

Although clear vision often represents intelligence and insight in Greek beliefs, Oedipus s perfect
eyesight does not help him see the truth. Ironically, it is the blind Teiresias who knows the most and

Iocaste tries to steer him away from the truth, when the details she reveal about how King Laios is
killed matches in many details his own confrontation with King Laios. However, just as it seems
Oedipus and Iocaste have returned to the path to the truth and the ultimate climax, they diverge off the
path again as they latch themselves onto King Polybus s death as surefire evidence that Oedipus is not
the murderer. Oedipus is so happy and relieved to be able to convincingly blind himself to the truth
again that he displays no grief for the father he loved, declaring that Polybos has packed the oracles

Rhetorical Analysis Of Ronald Reagan Challenger Disaster
Ronald Reagan Challenger Disaster Address to the Nation After the seven astronauts, engineers, and
Christa McAuliffe, a history teacher selected to be part of the mission, were killed in the terrible
shuttle Challenger explosion, Ronald Reagan had the unbelievable job of explaining it to the country.
Millions across the country were watching as the shuttle caught in flames and then exploded only 73
seconds after lift off. It was later determined that two rubber O rings, designed to separate the sections
of the rocket booster, had failed due to cold temperatures on the morning of the launch
(http://www.history.com/topics/challenger disaster). Reagan gave his speech at 5 pm on January 28,
1986 from the Oval Office at the White House, broadcasted live on nationwide radio and television.
Reagan knew that he had to make it plain to them that life does go on and you don t back up and quit
some worthwhile endeavor because of tragedy . Reagan called in a relatively unknown speechwriter
who would go on to pen some of the most famous phrases uttered by presidents, like President George

Health Care At The United States
Health care in the United States has become a major concern to many Americans. Health care is a part
of every person s life to ensure we continue to live a long eventless life. Many Americans cannot
afford the high prices for proper treatment to stay healthy when in need of care. The United States has
the highest cost for health care amongst the world; to mitigate these costs, we need additional support
from the government to negotiate set standards between health care providers, fewer malpractice
lawsuits, and fewer uninsured residents.
According to Davis, Stremikis, Squires, Schoen (2014), among the eleven nations that were discussed
in the article, the United States ranked first in the cost of health care within the country. The United
States differs from the other countries by not having universal health insurance. With the absence of
universal coverage in the United States, people still go without health care far more often than
countries due to the higher cost for health care. Another study shows the United States ranking low
when it comes to the safety and care of patients (Davis, Stremikis, Squires, Schoen, 2014). When it
comes to efficiency, the U.S. ranks last on the report compared to the other eleven countries. One main
reason it ranked so low is do to the increase in the amount of medical test that is performed. Studies

Adoption Is A Better Choice
When women are faced with an unplanned or unwanted pregnancy, there are many options for them.
Most of their options are not straight forward or easy to see. Some mothers decide to keep their child
while others feel that adoption or abortion is the better choice for both themselves and the unborn
child. In the United States, nearly one in four pregnancies end in abortion. Adoption is a better choice
because it is just the beginning for a life.
According to the blog, Our Bodies Ourselves, the first recorded abortion in the Untied States was in
the 1800s. Up until this time, abortion was legally practiced throughout the nation. The government, at
the time, decided to ban and make abortions illegal. The reason for making it illegal was to ... Show

had either changed or appealed their abortion laws. These changes said that a women could receive an
abortion, if the pregnancy was caused by rape or incest. ( History )
In 1973, the Roe v. Wade case would change abortion laws in the United States. According to CNN,
this case was between Norma McCorrey, who wanted the abortion and Henry Wade, the district

Essay on Higher Security at College Football Games
College football is a major part of many peoples lives, especially here in the South. Whether we or
someone we know is an alumni, we plan to go there in the future we think the uniforms are cute, or
whatever reason, we always have one favorite team we cheer for. sometimes fans of a team will wear
a shirt with the team s logo and that is as far as their loyalty goes. Others may attend a few games a
season, but there are also those die hard fans that never miss a game or always tailgating, screaming at
the refs, and have the team s fight song as their ringtone. While all that may seem a little overboard,
there are people believe it or not, who take their team devotion as far as killing to show their devotion

A huge part of going to college football games is tailgating. People always enjoy the fellowship, food,
and for some, alcohol before watching the game. Colleges could raise the cost of the tailgating spots
slightly and make a huge amount of money. Raising the cost of a tailgating spot is yet another way just
a small amount from everyone adds up to make a huge difference for the school.
The football teams already have several companies sponsoring them, but finding more companies to
give money to the football programs would not be difficult at all. Sponsoring the team helps a
company s business and if spectators know their safety from tighter security was paid for by a certain
company, their business would increase even more. Once the idea is proposed to companies, gaining
more sponsors, and therefore more money for security, would be a breeze.
I personally love going to games. I always have so much fun, but I have also seen fans be entirely too
competitive. It is a scary feeling not knowing if something were to happen or even worse, if something
did happen, would there be security to help before myself or someone else gets hurt. I speak not only
for myself, but for all the other football fans like me when I say having tighter security on campus
during a game would lift a heavy burden off of our shoulders and make us feel a whole lot safer.
Paying for the extra security would be no problem, either with an

The Effects Of Carbon Dioxide During The Industrial...
Carbon dioxide (CO2) is a type of odorless and colorless gas that can be either manmade or naturally
made. Carbon dioxide is a vital greenhouse gas; in moderation. Since the beginning of the Industrial
Revolution, the concentration of carbon dioxide has increased significantly. The concentration of
carbon dioxide in the air is leading to global warming, ocean acidification and a multitude of many
problems. In a report released from NASA, the scientist state that that human made carbon dioxide
(CO2) continues to increase above levels not seen in hundreds of thousands of years: currently, about
half of the carbon dioxide released from the burning of fossil fuels remains in the atmosphere and is
not absorbed by vegetation and the oceans . The current assessment of carbon dioxide in the air is 402
parts per million (ppm). One PPM is equivalent to one microgram/one kilogram (0.6 of a mile).

Report), he states that any hydroxide or anything with a strong base will essentially scrub carbon
dioxide right out of the air . This includes sodium hydroxide, potassium hydroxide, lithium hydroxide
and lithium peroxide. It is able to scrub carbon dioxide by chemically reacting with it. The simplified
process is that the CO2 is absorbed into the solution turning it into dissolved sodium carbonate. From
there the dissolved sodium carbonate can be easily extracted and the oxygen returned. Currently, the
only technology that is being evaluated seriously is called amine scrubbing. This technology primarily
uses monoethanolamine but has been repeatedly rejected due to it high cost of installing and

Increasing the Diversity of Plants
According to the Simpson s diversity index calculations of all the sites in figure 7, Site 3 had the
highest index reading of 0.701 out of 1. With 1 being the highest possible value, it indicates very high
diversity while 0; the lowest possible value, indicates no/very low diversity. This suggests that 0.701 is
a high reading, indicating high diversity of plant species. The analysis of the first hypothesis There is a
direct correlation between the diversity of plant species and the relative humidity at each site , will
help explain why site 3 had the highest diversity index reading when compared to the other sites. To
answer this hypothesis, data will be used from graphs in figure 2, 3 and 4. It can be suggested from
figure 2, 3 and 4 that the abiotic conditions of site 3 have proven to increase the diversity of plants
when compared to other sites. For plant A, according to figure 2, the humidity (rH) decreases from
64% in site 2 to 50.1% at site 3 while the total number of plant A increases from 9 in site 2 to 80 in
site 3. Even though the diversity of plant A increases with a decreased relative humidity in Lamma
Island, this is not supposed to occur in general according to theory as higher levels of relative
humidity are supposed to increase biodiversity, not decrease biodiversity. Theory suggests that a
higher level of humidity is supposed to decrease the effect of solar radiation while a lower level of
humidity is supposed to increase the effect of solar

To Kill A Mockingbird Courage Research Paper
Courage can mean many different things to many different people. To some, courage can be the ability
to stand up for what is right, while for others it can be challenging oneself with tasks one is not
accustomed to. Harper Lee incorporates different types of courage in To Kill a Mockingbird so many
can connect to a moment they felt that courage. Courage is seen throughout the novel in the form of
overcoming one s fears, fighting prejudice, and standing up for what one believes to be just.
Overcoming one s fears is the first type of courage present in the novel, and it contributes significantly
to the novel as it adds emotion. Scout overcomes her fears of the Radley home and its occupants

Scout, you ll get in trouble if you go around saying things like that. You want to grow up to be a lady,

not have been such an inspiration to those fighting against gender roles, as they would not be able to
look up to her as someone who did not let the society and gender roles get to her. Jem was also facing
prejudice when he was trying to be on the football team. Coach says if I can gain twenty five pounds
by year after next I can play. (page 330) The coach was only looking at Jem from the outside, not
actually seeing the skills he possessed. As a result, Jem was denied entry on the team, unless he gained

Foucault and Nietzsche on Knowledge
The concept of power should be considered with greater attention because it shows a path to which
Foucault adheres, to an extent, but not to the discharge of other pathways that contradict it. In fact,
productive power comes from Foucault s idea that contradictory vision disables power against a self
governing subject and does not understand the connection of power and its subject. What is more
important, is that Foucault makes a rational connection between knowledge and power, stating that
power relations are predicated on knowledge, but the latter does not imply power relations.
Nonetheless, the denial of independent knowledge is associated with the independent individuality,
which means that power and knowledge are combined to deliver a form of subjectivity. A
psychological identity relates to a persons self image and needs to be revealed by delivering an idea
that defines modern outlooks on individual. The human sciences develop different aspects of
individuality and identity and, therefore, they are based on the assumption that science is a reflection
of power relations leading to knowledge expansion. According to John McGowan, in The Problem of
Freedom in Postmodern Theory, knowledge, power, and the subject are shown to be intimately related
to one another within a single productive process (p. 129). In this instance, it could be stated that
power is considered to be the major source of knowledge and subject. The connection between
knowledge and power creates the

The Han Art Analysis
In ancient times, art was often made to become a burial object for the tomb of a respected individual.
The Chinese are apart of this tradition and this mingqi or spirit object of a dog belongs to the religious
concept of following the deceased into the afterlife. The artist of Mingqi (standing dog) is unknown
but the period of the artwork falls around 250 to 200 BCE, during the Han Dynasty. Though much is
unknown or undefined about this work, the visual components reveal the aim behind the artist s
choices. The Han artist focuses on the media, ceramic techniques, and composition to fulfill the role of
a protection vessel.
Mingqi (standing dog) is a clay figurine of a dog standing on all fours. The dog s mouth is agape and
the ears point upwards. The clay has carved eyes and whiskers while a harness and curled tail remain
raised. Beneath the tail, a circular hole is present while a less intentional hole lies underneath, on the
stomach. Intact green glaze coats the upper part of the sculpture while the clay is visible on the lower

Innovation in agriculture and sub industries can be a key driver of poverty reduction in poor rural
economies (OECD,2010).The impact on the environment could also be major while using water
efficient technologies watering more efficiently and less wastefully. This includes drip irrigation
systems, desalination, recycling, or drought resistant plants. Such technologies already have been
applied in USA and EU countries which enable farmers to improve profitability by using less fertilizer
and pesticides, with little or no fall in yields, through the adoption of new methods.(Gurria, 2010.)
Another highlighted issue in literature is greenhouse emissions caused by natural gas burning. Natural
gas is mostly used energy type in greenhouse industry . Greenhouse gas emissions included
approximately 465,000 metric tons of CO2, 9 metric tons of CH4 and 7 metric tons of N2O in 2006
worldwide (BD, 2010). Negative impact of natural gas to environment also another need to develop
new energy saving technologies and secure new renewable energy sources that can substitute for fossil

  • 2. Catholic Community The Catholic Church is an ancient community that has been studied and analyzed since it s beginnings, over two thousand years ago. When I was fourteen, I chose independently to be apart of this community and learn it s specific, complex structure. It took me about five years to really get a grasp on the functions of the Catholic Church and the community it provides. Entering, I believed the Church was simply a place people gathered to worship, but over time it proved to be much more than that. Being a member of the Catholic community meant, not only, being literate in the language of the Church and the sacred, fundamental texts but additionally, being literate in the specific genres that help the Catholic community accomplish its goals. Some ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Equally as important as the old, customary texts are the new, ever changing ones. In my parish, and in Catholic parishes through out the world, weekly bulletins are handed out giving information about what the Catholic Church is doing in your community and how you can get involved. New Catholic literature is being published every day, ranging anywhere from an a deeper understanding of the Church to advice on how to live a life in accordance with the Church. There are an endless amount of message boards and forums, Facebook groups, text message groups, the list continues. The importance of writing and rhetoric within the Catholic community is immense. If new literature was never being written, the Catholic community would cease to evolve and the mission of the Church could not be achieved. The writings of all members, ordained or lay, are essential to the Catholic community. These two categories of texts within the Catholic community, the old and the new , are not entirely separate, though. Texts formed today by ordained ministers of the Church, teachers in the community, and lay people are branches off of the initial texts that form the foundation of the Church. Recently published books, journals or blogs by Catholic authors regularly reference sacred, fundamental texts of the community. The Pros And Cons Of Multimarket Competition Multimarket contact involves firms simultaneous competition against one another in multiple product and/or geographical markets (Haveman and Nonnemaker, 2000; Korn and Baum, 1999) or in international markets (countries) (Yu, Subramaniam, and Cannella, 2009). Prior research on multimarket competition has examined exploitation in mature markets (Bowers, Greve, Mitsuhashi, and Baum, 2014; Gimeno, 1999; Greve, 2008; Guedri and McGuire, 2011) such as geographic markets (Fuentelsaz and Gómez, 2006; Greve, 2000) and sales growth (Greve, 2008) rather than exploration in immature markets. • 4. Beth Fennelly s Poetry Essay Beth Ann Fennelly and Tom Franklin read a few of their pieces at a public reading. Beth Fennelly writes poetry and short stories while her husband Tom read sections of longer fiction pieces. The two even combined to write a novel that they shared a bit of! Beth started the readings off alone, reading a few of her poems and short stories. The first poem that she read was a love poem of sort. It was the story of what would have been if she had met her husband at an earlier time. Beth is from Chicago, but the story takes place in Tom s home state of Alabama. I loved the alliteration in a few of the lines. Dumb as dalmatians and plaid pajamas (although out of context), sounded smooth rolling off the tongue of the speaker. The poem was a great selection for the reading because it showed the deep bond that the two share. Beth read several stories that were extremely short. Even shorter than William Carlos Williams Red Wheelbarrow. The stories were less than four lines, some as short as one or two lines. Although short, the stories were able to convey a lot of emotion. He took several pills and drank on them. The story had a very solemn tone to it. You could tell that the man was in a downward spiral. The story climaxed in a scene where the safety man gets into a fight with a coworker because he is hungover and unshaven at work. Once the man is suspended from work he realizes how important his job is to his life. Everything he does revolves around his job. This realization in the story hits home in my heart because it makes me think about how important school is to me right now. • 8. Implementation Of The Dayton Agreement This paper analyzes the Dayton Peace Accords initialed in Dayton, Ohio, and later signed in Paris. The Dayton agreement was an augmentation of and or arguably a follow up result of the previously pursued peace efforts and processes (Church, para 1), this paper, however, will only focus on the negotiation process that took place in the US, which resulted in attainment of the Dayton Agreement. The negotiation process will be analyzed within a combined framework of Habeeb s Formula Detail Approach and mediation detailed by Pruitt and Kim, both of which will serve as the primary and overarching basis for this analysis. However, relevant course materials will be used as deemed necessary while analyzing various aspects of the negotiation process such as the strategies employed by the negotiating parties, and the complexities special to this case, which expanded the mediating role of the US to tackle important barriers in order to reach an agreement. The Negotiation Framework: Habeeb reviews the literature on the common processes used in negotiations and thus agreeing with Zartman, advocates the formal detail approach. Zartman s approach is well structured and parsimonious. The concession and convergence school of analysis developed the offer counteroffer (Habbeeb 27) structure for the negotiation process. The approach is grounded in the notion that the negotiating parties make demands, propose new solution, make concessions, and evaluate concession behavior and reactions ... It s also important to take this approach in order to understand what s misunderstood about online bullying as a whole. Boyd (2010) states that if we are to know if online platforms act as a tool for teenagers to perpetuate violence in the real world , we must look at what they are doing online. Boyd finds that bullying does not dramatically go up or down when social media is introduced (Boyd 2015, 152). Digital spaces that are important in the lives of youth need to be understand both locally, and in global contexts. Mallan, Ashford and Singh s (2010) article discusses iscapes as a way for todays youth to hang out or communicate. The authors seek to answer the question, how do interactions across iscapes affect the identity work carried out by today s youth. ( Mallan et al. 2010, 265). Decheneaut et al. (2010) looks at an immersive ethnography in several online digital worlds. Bonilla and Rosa state boldly that by using social media as their platform, subscribers can demand public attention, and garner the attention from anthropologists by using hashtags (Bonilla et al. 2015, 5). During slavery, slave masters often impregnated slaves for two reasons: to further populate their own plantation or to prepare to sale them to make a profit. About 100 years later, though slavery had ended, a majority of black women found work by working as a maid, also known as the help, for wealthy white families. As part of their job, black women were often the sole caretakers of the children. In these jobs, black women in the South served as a cook, housekeeper, nursemaid, or some combination of the three. By analyzing the role of southern black women as mothers, two specific things are revealed: black southern mothers are forced to live a twofold complicated life and they serve as the cornerstone for both white and black southern households. In recognizing these two things, there is a better understanding of the vital role that black women play in the American South. In the film, Brando s character Terry Malloy witnesses a murder, and is encouraged to turn in the perpetrators, even though his union bosses are involved. The film portrays the dockworker Malloy s decision to come forward as a heroic one, partially rooted in his love for the dead man s sister Edie. (Edie s brother was killed for the same reason as Terry is being persecuted he informed on the union bosses). Knowing the back story of the film, I felt somewhat uncomfortable rooting for Brando to turn in his bosses, given that the film could be read as a defense of turning in people during the McCarthy era. The film portrays unions as made up of villains. Malloy is one of them a union member until he becomes so tormented by his conscience he cannot help but come forward. He cannot live with himself unless he speaks. Eventually, because of the public courage of his convictions, the other longshoremen side with Terry. The football teams already have several companies sponsoring them, but finding more companies to give money to the football programs would not be difficult at all. Sponsoring the team helps a company s business and if spectators know their safety from tighter security was paid for by a certain company, their business would increase even more. Once the idea is proposed to companies, gaining more sponsors, and therefore more money for security, would be a breeze. I personally love going to games. I always have so much fun, but I have also seen fans be entirely too competitive. It is a scary feeling not knowing if something were to happen or even worse, if something did happen, would there be security to help before myself or someone else gets hurt. I speak not only for myself, but for all the other football fans like me when I say having tighter security on campus during a game would lift a heavy burden off of our shoulders and make us feel a whole lot safer. Paying for the extra security would be no problem, either with an ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 29. The Effects Of Carbon Dioxide During The Industrial... Carbon dioxide (CO2) is a type of odorless and colorless gas that can be either manmade or naturally made. Carbon dioxide is a vital greenhouse gas; in moderation. Since the beginning of the Industrial Revolution, the concentration of carbon dioxide has increased significantly. The concentration of carbon dioxide in the air is leading to global warming, ocean acidification and a multitude of many problems. In a report released from NASA, the scientist state that that human made carbon dioxide (CO2) continues to increase above levels not seen in hundreds of thousands of years: currently, about half of the carbon dioxide released from the burning of fossil fuels remains in the atmosphere and is not absorbed by vegetation and the oceans . The current assessment of carbon dioxide in the air is 402 parts per million (ppm). One PPM is equivalent to one microgram/one kilogram (0.6 of a mile). Scientist claims that it needs to be brought down to 350 ppm to even start ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This is called carbon dioxide scrubbing. According to Jaunsen JR (US Naval Academy Technical Report), he states that any hydroxide or anything with a strong base will essentially scrub carbon dioxide right out of the air . This includes sodium hydroxide, potassium hydroxide, lithium hydroxide and lithium peroxide. It is able to scrub carbon dioxide by chemically reacting with it. The simplified process is that the CO2 is absorbed into the solution turning it into dissolved sodium carbonate. From there the dissolved sodium carbonate can be easily extracted and the oxygen returned. Currently, the only technology that is being evaluated seriously is called amine scrubbing. This technology primarily uses monoethanolamine but has been repeatedly rejected due to it high cost of installing and ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 32. Increasing the Diversity of Plants According to the Simpson s diversity index calculations of all the sites in figure 7, Site 3 had the highest index reading of 0.701 out of 1. With 1 being the highest possible value, it indicates very high diversity while 0; the lowest possible value, indicates no/very low diversity. This suggests that 0.701 is a high reading, indicating high diversity of plant species. The analysis of the first hypothesis There is a direct correlation between the diversity of plant species and the relative humidity at each site , will help explain why site 3 had the highest diversity index reading when compared to the other sites. To answer this hypothesis, data will be used from graphs in figure 2, 3 and 4. It can be suggested from figure 2, 3 and 4 that the abiotic conditions of site 3 have proven to increase the diversity of plants when compared to other sites. For plant A, according to figure 2, the humidity (rH) decreases from 64% in site 2 to 50.1% at site 3 while the total number of plant A increases from 9 in site 2 to 80 in site 3. Even though the diversity of plant A increases with a decreased relative humidity in Lamma Island, this is not supposed to occur in general according to theory as higher levels of relative humidity are supposed to increase biodiversity, not decrease biodiversity. Theory suggests that a higher level of humidity is supposed to decrease the effect of solar radiation while a lower level of humidity is supposed to increase the effect of solar ... To some, courage can be the ability to stand up for what is right, while for others it can be challenging oneself with tasks one is not accustomed to. Harper Lee incorporates different types of courage in To Kill a Mockingbird so many can connect to a moment they felt that courage. Courage is seen throughout the novel in the form of overcoming one s fears, fighting prejudice, and standing up for what one believes to be just. Overcoming one s fears is the first type of courage present in the novel, and it contributes significantly to the novel as it adds emotion. Jem was also facing prejudice when he was trying to be on the football team. Coach says if I can gain twenty five pounds by year after next I can play. • 36. Foucault and Nietzsche on Knowledge The concept of power should be considered with greater attention because it shows a path to which Foucault adheres, to an extent, but not to the discharge of other pathways that contradict it. In fact, productive power comes from Foucault s idea that contradictory vision disables power against a self governing subject and does not understand the connection of power and its subject. What is more important, is that Foucault makes a rational connection between knowledge and power, stating that power relations are predicated on knowledge, but the latter does not imply power relations. Nonetheless, the denial of independent knowledge is associated with the independent individuality, which means that power and knowledge are combined to deliver a form of subjectivity. A psychological identity relates to a persons self image and needs to be revealed by delivering an idea that defines modern outlooks on individual. The human sciences develop different aspects of individuality and identity and, therefore, they are based on the assumption that science is a reflection of power relations leading to knowledge expansion. According to John McGowan, in The Problem of Freedom in Postmodern Theory, knowledge, power, and the subject are shown to be intimately related to one another within a single productive process (p. 129). In this instance, it could be stated that power is considered to be the major source of knowledge and subject. The connection between knowledge and power creates the ... The Chinese are apart of this tradition and this mingqi or spirit object of a dog belongs to the religious concept of following the deceased into the afterlife. The artist of Mingqi (standing dog) is unknown but the period of the artwork falls around 250 to 200 BCE, during the Han Dynasty. Though much is unknown or undefined about this work, the visual components reveal the aim behind the artist s choices. The Han artist focuses on the media, ceramic techniques, and composition to fulfill the role of a protection vessel. Mingqi (standing dog) is a clay figurine of a dog standing on all fours. The dog s mouth is agape and the ears point upwards. The clay has carved eyes and whiskers while a harness and curled tail remain raised.
