Limb Reduction And The Prosthetic Rehabilitation Process
Introduction
There is an estimated 1.9 million people living with an amputated limb in America, each day
500 more Americans loss a limb (Ziegler et al., 2008). Of those who lose a limb later in life, 60
80% of them experience phantom limb pain. (Nikolajsen et al., 2001) Phantom limb pain refers
to a pain or sensation that seems to come from the limb that was amputated. ( Nikolajsen et al.,
2001) Of those who are congenital amputees, an estimated 1500 of them are born with upper
limb reduction, while 750 of them are born with a lower limb reduction. (Canfield et al, 2006)
Limb reduction refers to a defect during birth that causes a part of a limb or the entire limb to fail
to fully form during pregnancy. ( Vasluian et al, 2013) A look within the quality of life of these
various forms of amputees may produce viable information that could be used to assist in the
prosthetic rehabilitation process.
With such differences within the amputee community, there could be a possibility of certain factors
uniquely effecting the quality of life before, during, and after prosthetic rehabilitation. Amputees
and prosthetics are often viewed from a general perspective by the public. We often do not look
further then what we see with our eyes, allowing sympathy to take the place of genuine research
regarding amputees and prosthetics. The rehabilitation process for those who require limb prosthesis
can be long, grueling, and emotional taxing (O Keeffe, 2011). The prosthetic rehabilitation

Langstone Hughes Harlem
At first glance, the poem Harlem by Langstone Hughes appears to be just a simple poem about
thwarted dreams and desires. However, this poem is much more than what it first appears to be.
This simile drenched poem is actually a reflection of the constant struggles for acceptance and
equality faced by African Americans, during an era when racismplayed a large part in the average
mindset of society. The title of this poem is named after a predominantly African American
neighborhood in uptown Manhattan. This neighborhood acted as a sort of sanctuary for the
African American people, in a racist society. The people who lived in Harlem had far more
opportunities to freely express themselves and to escape segregation. Langstone Hughes s cleaver

Tutankhamin s Tomb
Recent radar scans in Luxor show evidence of two previously unknown chambers that connect to
the tomb of Tutankhamun. The scans suggest this with 90% certainty, and they also suggest that
the chambers contain organic matter and metal. While the prospect of fresh tombs that have been
untouched for millennia already arouses excitement among anthropologists, archeologists, and
many more, there is speculation that Queen Nefertiti s remains may be found in one of the
chambers. While Dr. Mamdouh Eldamaty, Egypt s antiquities minister, suggests that the remains
could also be of the young pharaoh s mother or sister, he says that this could still be the discovery
of the century, much like Tutankhamun s tomb was in the 1900s. Still, there is debate

Changes In America s Social Environment
During the era from the end of Reconstruction through 1900, the development of American cities
radically altered the nation s social environment and problems. A vast majority of Americans
relocated from rural areas to the city in pursuit of new economic opportunity and the promise of
a more exciting life. The rapid development of an urban society transformed America. How
people lived, what and how they ate, and how they took care of their health all changed. In spite
of the period s adherence to the beliefs of Social Darwinism, increasing numbers of Americans in
fields that varied from religion and economics to politics, literature, and the law proposed the need
for reforms.

Calling for government action to help farmers and labourers, The People s, or Populist, Party was
formed in 1981. The Populist s were able to convince many Democrats and Republicans to support
their reforms and grew a very large following.
Reformers successfully elected numerous people to congress who supported their views and even
won control of many city and some state governments. They also elected many people to Congress
who favoured their views. In addition, Theodore Roosevelt, William Howard Taft, and Woodrow
Wilson, the first three presidents elected after 1900, supported certain reform laws.
By 1920, more Americans lived in cities than rural areas and almost half of the population were
descendents of immigrants that came to America during the end of the American Revolution. This
created a diverse society of ethnic and racial groups that varied in class standing. The beginning
efforts of reform derived from tension created by industrialization and urbanization social changes.

Roman Propaganda Expressed Through Art
Unit 7 Essay
Mark Sprowls
AP art history The Roman rulers from ancient times are well known for their ability to coax their
people into thinking a certain way through the use of convincing pieces of art. The Roman
Empire was very troubled and its emperors are infamous for such things as lavish spending,
unnecessary war, and even the killing of family members, and this begs the question: how were
there so few large scale revolts of the Roman populous? The answer is the use of propaganda in
popular Roman culture. The Roman Empire used propaganda for political purposes by
incorporating Roman family values, victorious war scenes, and general Roman successes into their
artworks. Adding family values to art that depicted a Roman ruler s ... Show more content on

On the Arch of Constantine a plethora of works depicting the triumphs of his predecessors can
be seen, which he uses to his advantage, as if he was proposing the idea that he was as great as
the other emperors. In fact, he even goes as far to replace the heads of the other emperors on the
arch with his own like he was responsible for the many good deeds that they had done. One
example of this is a relief where Hadrian is sacrificing an animal to Apollo and then hunting boar,
except Hadrian s face is replaced by Constantine s. This stealing of works was probably a way to
gain favor with the populous for himself as well as the next ruling emperor. All in all these two
monuments to their respective patrons were highly effective pieces of propaganda that may have
been responsible for a less rebellious empire. To look back upon the propaganda used by the Roman
Empire, it seems particularly ingenious that they accomplished such a feat. To keep an empire with
that many problems, problems that could undermine even the greatest leaders, relatively stable is
astonishing. In conclusion, through propaganda in art that depicted victorious war campaigns,
successful emperors and a halcyon family life the Rulers of ancient Rome were able to extend their
respective time in power as well as increasing their already great

Prologue
One year ago
All was quiet within in the Forest of Forever Winter, the snow descended from the dark moon lit
sky. Snow builds in the branches of the many dark skeletal trees. Treading through the snow filled
path was a shrouded figure wearing black and blue garments beneath a slightly tattered navy blue
cloak with black inner lining, billowing in the breeze. The lower half of his face was obscured by a
black mask and his eyes hidden beneath the hood. Strapped across his back is a DaitЕЌ with a lock
attached to the sheath and the latch hooked to the guard.
The figure treaded through the snow filled path until the sound of a snapping twig and faint growls
coming from behind stopped him in his tracks. Taking the moment to listen noises he came to the
obvious conclusion. There was no mistaking those sounds...Beowolves, he thought to himself. As
the next twig snapped he un holstered a pair of old and battered flintlock pistols. Both are fitted
with box magazines with barrel length bayonets in front of the trigger guards.
Soon coming from behind the trees and foliage was a large black werewolf like creature with outer
bone white spikes, armor, and mask adorned with blood red designs and eyes. It was a Beowolf,
one of the many variations of the Creatures of Grimm . The Beowolf held its head high followed
by a load roar and charged him on all fours.
The hunter squeezed the trigger, the first flintlock fired a whistling flair that struck its intended

Tartrazine Experiment
In eighth grade, while on a school run food interest trip, I learned the significance of ingredients and
nutrition in food. One of the activities was to differentiate between fresh ramen noodles and instant
noodles by scrutinizing the ingredients and nutritional labels as well as by taste testing. Upon
inspection, there were several recurring ingredients such as the coloring agent tartrazine. Later that
day, a bolt of curiosity surged through me, and an Internet search on tartrazine forever changed the
way I looked at food.
What I found shocked me. Articles full of evidence indicated the harmful effects of the coloring
agent, ranging from allergic reactions to hyperactivity in children. As a result, I was compelled to
probe further into the

Betlie s Multiple Times Corrie Ten Boom
This attitude takes center stage at various points in the novel, especially during the sisters stays at
the prison and concentration camps. Multiple times Corrie hears Betsie speak of how sorry she
felt for the German soldiers and how she wishes she could help them see the err of their ways.
Betsie s compassion towards her captors, assaulters, and enemies profoundly illustrates her love for
the human race and the desire she has that all know Christ. While in the Vught concentration camp,
Betsie states, Corrie, if people can be taught to hate, they can be taught to love! We must find a way,
no matter how long it takes... . Betsie sees the potential for goodness in everyone she meets despite
their actions. Overall, these three themes contribute to the central message of the novel. No matter
how desperate a situation or the severity of tribulation, the love of God is greater still and His love
provides hope in times of need.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
As a whole, the novel contains a few weaknesses. The first weakness arises from the time
difference between the events and the writing of the novel. Corrie ten Boom wrote THE
HIDING PLACE twenty years after the fact. It is extremely likely that the events depicted in the
novel are shades of what actually occurred. Memories fade and time distorts the reality of the
past and because of this, I feel that the book would have been more factually accurate had Corrie
ten Boom written it much sooner. Another weakness in the book derives itself from ten Boom s
heavy reliance on her Christian faith. As I read the book, I felt that some of the circumstances
were glossed over and events were chocked up to being merely miracles. However, I do agree with
Corrie ten Boom s major premise throughout the novel that religion can play a crucial role during

The Pros And Cons Of Obamacare
The Downfall of Obamacare
As Americans citizens we have the freedom of religion, speech and press, the right to vote, the
right to bear arms and the right to a fair trial so why not the right for affordable health insurance.
Americans would appreciate reasonably priced health care with benefits and Obamacare was the
first presidential attempt to force less ideal health care on all Americans; Trump has promised to
revamp Obamacare and help Americans with better health care coverage. Obama care or better
known as the The Affordable Health Care Act (Heritage Foundation, 1) is a federal law for Health
Insurance by our 44th President Barack Obama. For decades, politicians have been considering the
topic of healthcare, which is one major reason Obama was so adamant about Obamacare.
[Obamacare] requires all insurance plans to cover essential health benefits including treatment for
mental health, addiction and chronic disease. An Insurance policy cannot deny coverage for pre

The Louisiana Purchase Analysis
The Louisiana Purchase of 1803 is known as President Thomas Jefferson s greatest feat. However,
this treaty that resulted in the doubling of the size of the United States was not Jefferson s initial
objective. The main concern was France s possession of New Orleans, an important shipping port
to the American economy. Upon the news that American free use of the port has been violated, the
Americans were split into those who would have peaceful negotiations with France like the more
pacifist Jefferson, and those like Jefferson s Federalist rival, Alexander Hamilton, who would rather
be aggressive with foreign nations. To Thomas Jefferson, American control over the continent and
its own economy independent of foreign countries can be achieved... Show more content on

Theories Of Sociological Imagination
Sociological imagination is a concept that was defined in 1959 by American sociologist C.
Wright Mills. He described it as an awareness of the relationship between a person s behavior and
experience and the wider culture that shaped the person s choice and perceptions. It helps us
relate our own experiences to others. Sociological imagination can help us understand the
difference between personal troubles and public issues by determining if it is a problem in
someone s own history or if it is an issue in the society or culture s history.
Structural functionalism is a macro analysis view defined as The way each part of society functions
together to contribute to the whole. In education, it focuses on how it serves the needs of society.
Functionalists view education as a way to pass on knowledge and skills. While functionalists
believe that schools sort students based upon their academic knowledge, Conflict theorists believe
that students are sorted based on their social/financial class. Conflict theory is The way inequalities

of the organization will be apprehensive about the progress of the brand image delivered through

can alter the perceptions of both, Internal and External Stakeholders. Example: Customer and
Marketing Department have a common course towards the Service Concept.
2. Using the Service Concept to create changes in the Design: Changes in the service concept
affect the organization as a whole, which also involves Service Development. Service Concept is
closely linked with Service Design, which makes it one main component that includes the
perspective of the customers, thus it should be designed properly to match the needs of the
Customer. With the help of the outline of the Service Concept and mapping the current Service
Concept with the required Service Concept, The service designers can compare their Service

Music Analysis Bach Suite No. 3 in D Major Gavotte Essay
Analysis: Bach Suite No. 3 in D major
The instruments used in the piece are: * Trumpet 1 * Trumpet 2 * Trumpet 3 * Timpani * Oboe 1 *
Oboe 2 * Violin 1 * Violin 2 * Viola * Continuo Harpsichord or Double Bass
Why this piece is typically baroque
This is piece is baroque as it includes many of the baroque characteristics: * Perfect Cadence!! In the
concept Pitch, the perfect cadence is very obvious at the end of the sections and phrases change
from the dominant to the tonic. * Duration the rhythmic pattern heard at the start of each gavotte, is
reiterated many times throughout the piece. This also links to Pitch the opening melody of the
piece is heard many times throughout ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The phrases are generally 8 beats long extending over 3 the last two beats of the first bar and the
first two beats of the third bar( in the excerpt to the right).
Throughout Section A, there is no syncopation all notes fall on the beat.
Texture The texture is homophonic throughout the whole of Section A. There are three layers of
sound in the Section A. The first is the melody played by the violins and trumpets. This is the layer
of sound which is most prominent throughout A. The second is the timpani and viola part. This is
the softest layer throughout the section. It provides harmony to the melody, using the notes of the
D major chord. The last layer is the continuo bass It provides accompaniment and bass.
The harmonic rhythm is not very steady as the chords only change in bars 7, 10 and 11. The chord
changes from D to A and then from A to E and E to A (shown in the musical excerpt). These chord
changes are changes from either the dominant to the tonic or the tonic to the dominant, showing the
typical barque chord changes.
Through adding trumpets, bars 1 3 and bars 5 7 are the densest of Section A. This highlights the
main repeated motif. Bars 3 5 and 7 11 are softer as these are the less important phrases of the
section.
Section A1 bars 12 27
This Section is called A1, because it uses similar rhythms and pitch throughout the Section. The
structure of the section is however not the same to section A as there are various key changes

ESPN Target Market
The consumer market for ESPN s streaming service is made up of sports enthusiasts who need
access to live events and sports information on the go. According to our situation analysis,
consumers use ESPN for their sports needs because of ESPN s strong brand name; the ESPN brand
promotes awareness and trust to consumers within the sports entertainment market. Due to ESPN s
focus on a higher purpose, many consumers choose ESPN over competitors for their environmental
sustainability and diversity initiatives. Thus, ESPN s well known brandname and positive public

Effects Of Beauty On The Labor Market Essay
It has become increasing clear that beauty may play a role when it comes to social interactions
involved in economic or political opportunities. Now, one may ask how beauty could possibly play
a noticeable impact on situations concerning economic or political opportunities. Yet, it does. A
laboratory experiment was conducted to fully study the impact of beauty premium , the positive
association and relationship between attractiveness and wages, on economic success in the labor
market. The experiment was conducted by Tatyana Deryugina, a professor of finance and her
companions. Although illegal, labor market discrimination has occurred based on physical
appearances and Tatyana wanted to test this notion. Deriving from this experiment, they were able
to conclude that the beauty premium does indeed exist although only in certain circumstances. Only
in tasks such as bargaining does beauty premium significantly show a positive correlation. In other
tasks such as analysis or data entry, the notion of beauty premium does not exist. They state, we find
that the beauty premium in bargaining completely vanishes in the second round of bidding when
the task is repeated, which suggests that employers learn quickly that performance is uncorrelated
with attractiveness (Deryugina 2015). The point is that physical beauty is what deceives the mind
into thinking that the more attractive one is, the more competent they may be in performing and
executing skills such as bargaining.

Beyond these factors, there is evidence of a pathophysiological role for inflammation and
oxidative stress in CKD and its complications [2]. These two events are prominent features of
CKD and its complications in humans [3,4,5,6,7]. Increased oxygen radical formation was
found in CKD, in the presence of a reduced antioxidant defense [8]. Patients suffer from chronic
microinflammation and infections [9]. Gum Arabic (GA) is derived from exudates of Acacia
senegal or Acacia seyal trees. It consists of a mixture of polysaccharides (major component) plus
oligosaccharides and glycoproteins [1,2]; however, its composition can vary with its source,
climate and soil. Sudan is the world s largest producer, followed by many other African countries.
It readily dissolves in water to form solutions characterized by low viscosity. This allows its use
in various applications [3]. Gum Arabic was evaluated for acceptable daily intake for man by the
Joint FAO/WHO Expert Committee on Food Additives since 1969 [5]; however, Sudanese people
in Western Sudan had been using it for long time without limitations. It is indigestible to both
humans and animals, not degraded in the intestine, but fermented in the colon to give short chain
fatty acids, leading to a large range of possible health benefits [6]. One of these benefits is its
prebiotic effect [7,8]. It has been claimed that four week supplementation with Gum

Analyzing Cat Stevens Poems Father And Son
Cat Stevens, from his own store of felt, observed, and/or imagined experiences, wrote the poem
Father and Son . This poem creates new experiences for his audience and allows them to participate
in the poem, from which they may gain a greater awareness and understanding of their world.
Stevens utilizes his poem in order to both increase and clarify the audience s range of experience.
While interpreting and trying to understand this poem I became extremely aware of the relationship
between the two characters: a father and his son. The father and his son s relationship is very
conflicted. They have difficulty communicating and understanding one another. The father and his

Bush, for the purpose of regulating the financial practices and a host of other corporate and
securities issues for all publically traded organizations. Essentially, it was an attempt to impose
tighter controls on the financial reporting, to try and provide more transparency in financial
reporting, and to hold people accountable in the financial reporting. (Dewey, 2012). It s important
to note that the SOX law applies to all companies registered under Section 12 of the Securities
and Exchange Act of 1934. Privately held and non for profit companies are not impacted by the
SOX law, however many have elected to voluntarily comply with the legislation. The law was
enacted due to several corporate scandals in early 2000 2002; Enron, WorldCom and Tyco to
name just a few. The early 2000 s will always be remembered for the deep recession and decline
in economic activity, not just in the US, but in the global marketplace as well. As with any
legislation, there are pro s and con s. I believe the law was the right thing to enact; the problem
many see with it is the manner in which it was mandated. Many would even argue that the law
was not needed since we already have laws in place to protect and prosecute fraudulent behavior,
but those were clearly not strict enough given the billions of dollars that investors lost. I m sure in
the near future, we ll see that SOX doesn t

Casilda In The Judge s Wife By Isabel Allende
Indeed, a woman should soften but not weaken a man. This supposition exemplifies the character
Casilda from The Judge s Wife short story by Isabel Allende. Although not seen by all as the main
character, Casilda is the strongest and most evolutionary personality of the short story. The Judge
s Wife is an exceptional tale that follows the progression of characters as they fight against their
predetermined destinies and how they are viewed in others eyes. Casilda is a catalyst for the
evolution of almost every characterin the story. Not only does her character grow in The Judge s
Wife, but she is also a medium for the growth of the two other main characters in the story. Casilda
molds the personality of a majority of the characters in the story, distinctly Judge Hidalgo and
Nicolas Vida.
Casilda noticeably changed the character of Judge Hidalgo, into a softer man, in his field of
professionalism. In a close analysis of this narrative, we find that the Judge was a very cranky
bachelor who was very feared by all, in the village he lived, for his stubbornness and severe
temper. We are told that, when he enforced the law, Judge Hidalgo failed to give any account of
the whys and wherefores behind the indicted committing the crime. According to the author, not
only did the judge refuse to apply any common sense in his judgments but was also equally harsh
in his condemnation of the theft of a chicken as of premeditated murder (Allende 284). Across
the village, not a single person was safe from his cruelty. However, the judge changed,
significantly after he married Casilda. All this came to reality when the priest and a group of
Catholic women approached Casilda to plead for the life of Juana the Forlorn, a poor old woman
who was subjected to torture for the reason that she made an effort to capture her son. Casalda
heeded to their requests and set forth for the town, with a bottle of fresh water and a basket of
food, taking her children dressed in their Sunday best. In spite of the soldiers struggles to keep
her away, the cries of her children crossed the years of Judge Hidalgo. This made him realize the
mistakes he had been making prompting him, Judge Hidalgo, to come down in person and unlock
the cage,

The Conflict Between The Church And Secular Authority
Through the Investiture Conflict in 1076, it can be seen that the Church had wanted to dominate
the secular authority. The Investiture Conflict had marked a change in the relationship between the
Church and secular authority in which the Church wanted to establish its right to rule over the
secular rulers. The disputes between the Church and secular authority were a continuation of an
ongoing tension over who had ultimate authority to rule over Christendom and within kingdoms.
These disputes also dealt with the rights and privileges the Church had acquired within kingdoms
especially the elevation of the clergy above the laity by putting the clergy above the law with
separate church courts. By the mid eleventh century, it can be seen that the Church had gained
strength to challenge the secular ruler for authority in their own kingdoms and establishing special
rights and privileges for its clergy. These special rights and privileges had put clergy members on
top of the rest of the population. The two most important disputes between the Church and secular
authority over these issues were between King Henry II of England(1154 1189) and Thomas Becket,
Archbishop of Canterbury from 1162 to 1170, and that between King Philip IV of France (1285
1314) and PopeBoniface VIII (1294 1303). Both Henry II and Philip IV wanted to be able to
better control crime in their kingdoms due to the separate church courts for clergy that led to issues
of criminous clerks. While Becket and

How Brains Make Up Their Minds Book Review
Walter J. Freeman examines how we humans control our behavior and comprehend and analyze the
world around us in How Brains Make Up Their Minds. Though, due to the complex nature of both
neuroscience and psychology, Freeman begins with a much needed clarification regarding
semantics. Freeman depicts the differences of intent, motive, and desire after introducing his theory
on self determination: Individuals are credited and responsible for their actions.
Within the first chapter, Freeman lays out the books format by stating not only the topic of each
proceeding chapter, but also paragraph summaries of each, almost as if giving an outline to an
argument. This book is much like a staircase; building on top of the previous platform. Beginning
with his theory on our intentionality, Freeman then branches to his beliefs on meaning, and how
meaning is derived from intentionality. To the author, meanings are our personal interpretations of
our intentional behaviors. Our self estimations of the consequences of intentional behaviors creates
what we perceive to be the meanings of our actions. This idea of ... Show more content on

Through non linear dynamics, he discusses Chaos Theory, in which it is believed that structure is
created from the existence of chaos. These dynamics, explained as neurons organized hierarchical,
will be Freeman s basis for his beliefs on perception and the senses. The construction of neural
activity patterns stems from perception and sense of the world. He continues by explaining how
these patterns become thoughts, which are then translated into meaning. Structures in the brain then
create enormous patterns of all senses blended together, creating a coordinative interaction. In order
for self organized behavior to occur, this chorus of singers hearing and reacting to the others, as
Freeman figuratively used, must

Review Of Okin s Vulnerability By Marriage
Within Okin s Vulnerability by Marriage article her thesis is similar to Beauvoir s idea in
previous readings that the oppression of women in contemporary liberal societies is primarily
continued by the gendered division of labor (GDL) in a family, for the most part the fact that
women are assigned responsibility within the home and are not paid. Also, Okin believes that
women s oppression is caused by feminine gendersocialization but she also adds that she believes
that a major contribution to the oppression of women in liberal societies is due to women s role
inside the home. Even if women do work a full time job, they truly aren t done working when
they get home after work, they tend to do necessary things around the house such as laundry,
washing dishes, taking care of children, etc., and women on average work more hours per week
than a man even though they may not be paid for it. Even though I think that Okin s view is true
and her arguments are acceptable, I do think that there are some additional arguments she could
have made that would have made her case better. In this paper I will address Okin s arguments as
well as present some of my own additional arguments that I feel could have beneficial. Okin argues
that the consequences of gendered division of labor within a family comes in three different stages,
vulnerability in anticipation of marriage, vulnerability in the marriage itself, and vulnerability in
when marriage ends and divorcehappens. Within the first

Ha Jin – The Bridegroom Essay
Ha Jin The Bridegroom
Described as utopian in nature, the Chinese culture is often in pursuit for the perfect individual, a
harmonious and structured society where the citizens as a whole create the ideal culture. In a
collection of short stories entitled The Bridegroom, author Ha Jin documents this aspect of reality
in homeland China. Primarily for the purposes of instruction and satirical verse, Ha Jin, shows how
people are trying to find themselves in a society that focuses on the whole of the country rather than
the individual. He is able to interconnect this theme of individualism through four major stories in
the book while presenting Chineseness or satire of fictional verse as a way to focus on the changes
throughout China ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The Chinese government was organized and wanted to do what they thought was right for the state
as a whole. Unfortunately for Guhan, he was loosing his identity and individualism for the greater
good of China.
Abnormal behavior is never more apparent than in the story titled In the Kindergarten. When
Shaona becomes the second child of her household, she is forced to live outside the city limits in
a rural foster home. It is my assumption that Ha Jin is referring to the second child as a male since
they are heavily praised in the Chinese Culture. The story depicts how children at a young age do
whatever they want to do, inherit bad language and often misbehave. Social conformity and
propaganda have yet to be ingrained, as quoted when Weilan, another student in the kindergarten is
caught saying Big asshole (47) to another student, who in reply says, Say that again, bitch! He
went up to her, grabbed her shoulders, pushed her to the ground, and kicked her buttocks (47).
Compared to Alive, this story focuses on the Chinese attempt to secure conformity for all of its
citizens. In my opinion, the Kindergarten story is what Chinese life is like prior to the events in the
short story Alive. It shows the purity of children at an early age and how social norms are not
necessarily inherited; they are learned.

Anne Bradstreet Influences
For this essay, I will discuss the historical and cultural context of Anne Bradstreet s writings and
how that influenced her. An authors writing is always influenced by their surroundings and the
history of which they have lived in. Anne Bradstreet was no different, and her Puritan surroundings
and the happening history of the time, as well as her family occupied her poems. Anne Bradstreets
writings were usually personal accounts, but her Puritan living was very apparent and that is
what I will focus on. To start lets go over a little history about Anne Bradstreet. She was born in
1612 with the maiden name Dudley and died in 1672. She was the first woman to be recognized as
an accomplished New World Poet. Bradstreet did not attend school,... Show more content on

In this poem states her thoughts on much of nature, as well as opinions on how to live life and
honor God. She contemplates verses of the bible containing the story of Cain and Abel and
ponders the nature of humans. The puritan viewpoint that man is weak and vain and full of sin
is apparent in this poem. Especially in the 29th stanza, Man at the best a creature frail and vain,
/ In knowledge ignorant, in strength but weak, / Subject to sorrows, losses, sickness, pain,
/ Each storm his state, his mind, his body break, /From some of these he never finds cessation,

divine translation. Nor all his losses, crosses and vexation, /In weight, in frequency and long
duration / Can make him deeply groan for that divine Translation. Anne Bradstreet was very
strong in her Puritan values and it showed through in her poetry, especially this one. The
historical values of her time were based highly on the societies religious values. The poem
encompasses the societies view on nature and God, and man s place in the world. Bradstreet s
form of poetry was unusual and she contrasts typically Puritan views by feeling closer to God by

Benjamin In The Film The Graduate
The movie The Graduate defines the main character Benjamin in a very well way. In the
beginning of the movie you see the camera focused on Benjamin. He looks as if he is unhappy or
bored with life. The camera zooms outs showing that Benjamin isn t alone, he is actually in a
plane full of others. To me this scene is showing that Benjamin feels alone even when he is
surrounded by others. Next scene shows Benjamin sitting in his room near his fish tank. His father
then interrupts his time alone with silence. The camera continues to focus on Benjamin. Even
when his father s in the camera all you can see is his back turned towards the audience and his
face a bit blurred. His mother also walks into the room telling her family the guests are there. Since
Benjamin has arrived home it seems as if he... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The director made the audience feel like I was in the movie being pressured by the guests. I feel
like I am in Benjamin s shoes trying to escape for some peace and quiet. When Mrs. Robinson
exposes herself to Benjamin the camera goes back and forth between the two. The camera
showing her naked body and Benjamin s face which shows an emotion of nervousness. It looks
as if he is stuck between the two options of looking or turning away. The scuba diving scene the
camera shows Benjamin s parent talking to him but all you can hear is the constant breathing of
Benjamin. Once he jumps in he just stays underwater the camera zooms out while it loses focus
gradually as it moves back. Benjamin here could be feeling suffocated underwater with no
leeway from his parents. They are still on his back, he hasn t even had time to think about what
he wants to do with his life. Another scene is where Mrs. Robinson has her leg up and Benjamin
is standing in front of her facing the camera. In this shot he looks vulnerable and it makes the
woman look likes she is in charge with the stance she is

Examples Of Mercy And Compassion
There are so many ways on how to practice mercy and compassion. There are three simple steps
given to us by Pope Francis during his apostolic visit here in the Philippines on how to become
ministers of mercy and compassion. First is to rest with God. Second is to renew one s self.
Third is to love others. Pope Francis tells us that To be an ambassador for Christ means to invite
everyone to a renewed personal encounter with Christ. (Evangelii Gaudium). A renewed personal
encounter with Christ is witnessed when we rest with God. Rest is very crucial to everyone s life.
But some people seldom have time to rest due to hectic schedules and for some students are

And also there are people that we love so much but doesn t return our love back. Real love is
about loving God, and letting Him love us back. Another way of practicing mercy and
compassion is to love others. Loving others unlike the renewal of one s self focuses on giving love
to other people. Loving others is bringing Jesus to others. Loving others is not just about giving
them what they need, it s about teaching them how to provide for themselves. Let us practice mercy
and compassion by resting with God, renewing ourselves, and loving others. During the season of
lent we reflect on the passion, death, and resurrection of our Lord Jesus Christ. Lent is a source
of mercy and compassion in a way that we practice fasting and abstinence and as much as
possible drink water. Water has a chemical formula of H2O which means, H for Honesty, H for
Humility, for being humble enough to admit your mistakes, and O for Obedience, for obeying the
people in authority like our parents. These 3 are the sources of mercy and compassion. That s why
we should be honest, humble and obedient. Always drink H20 on the season of Lent. The author

Throughout those years, she made herself known as an extremely energetic person, exuberant

fellow students to speak up, or even to argue their point, for she herself is an excellent speaker.
While working on a broad spectrum of cultural texts, her conclusions are most of the time
genuinely original. She tends to look for unique answers, her judgments are both fresh and
controversial. On the other hand, even given her spontaneity, Gabriela s personal culture is

Chloramphenicol And Protein Synthesis Lab Report
Introduction
In this practical, we will investigate and compare the mechanisms of action of the drugs:
Chloramphenicol and Rifampicin, specifically by identifying whether their effects are bacteriostatic
or bactericidal, and by looking at their effect on RNA and protein synthesis
Antibiotics can be divided into two categories: Bactericidal or Bacteriostatic. Bactericidal
antibiotics directly kill the micro organisms, and depending on the amount given, the bacteria will
not recover after administration of the antibiotic is ceased. Bacteriostatic antibiotics prevent growth
of the bacteria, by targeting proteins that are involved in reproduction. Once the bacteriostatic
antibiotic is removed, population numbers usually increase again.
One of the drugs we will be investigating is Chloramphenicol. Chloramphenicol is a member of the
Amphenicol family/class of antibiotics. It is effective against gram negative and gram positive
bacteria. Members of the family work by targeting protein synthesis. Due to its ability to work
against gram negative and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Rifampicin specifically binds to and inhibits RNA polymerase in prokaryotic organisms. It is a
potent agent used to treat tuberculosis. It targets the majority of gram positive bacteria and a
considerable number of gram negative bacteria. It is able to kill intracellular microorganisms as it
can enter phagocytes. Drug resistance can arise quickly and easily, and is believed to occur due to
a chromosomal mutation, which results in a change in the DNA dependent RNA polymerase.
Rifampicin is orally administrated, and has no common unwanted side effects. Side effects can
include: skin rashes, fever and gastrointestinal disturbances. Liver damage has been observed in
rare cases. Rifampicin also induces metabolising enzymes in the liver, and therefore drugs such as
warfarin may be quicker metabolised. (Dale and Rang,

Mid 1700 s Music Composers and the Operatic Reform Essay
Beginning in the mid 1700s composers started to resist the changes that occurred in opera. They
began to resist: the preferential treatment that the divas and castrati received, the excessive and
replaceable arias and the melodic phrasing, and the extreme vocal embellishments. Coming out
of the opera seria where the focus remained squarely on the divas, castrati, and where the da capo
aria was the standard form of the time Christoph Willibald Gluck was the leader of the Operatic
Reform. While Christoph Willibald Gluck and other composers of the time did not abandon the da
capo aria entirely, they began to modify it to more effectively to fit the telling of a story. With the

Also more formal structures became standard. One example of one of these formal structures is the
sonata form. The sonata form is one of the most common forms in classical a music. This form is
commonly used in the first movement of sonatas, string quartets, symphonies and even concerts. It
has three main sections which are the exposition, development, and the recapitulation. One
composer who used the sonata form exclusively was Domenico Scarlatti. Scarlatti was one of the
most prominent keyboard composers of his time. The clavier sonatas of Domenico Scarlatti form a
separate and distinct species, written mostly in one movement, in song form, and in homophonic
style. An example of this is in Scarlatti s Sonata in D Major. Scarlatti s sonatas represent a
transitional type between the older and the Viennese sonata
One of the most important composers of the early Symphony, Johann Stamitz standardized the four
movement plan of what would become the symphony. What Johann brought to the music that was
innovative was that he played with different instrument timbres like flutes, oboes, brass instruments,
and clarinet. Stamitz was the first composer to use it consistently: well over half his symphonies
and nine of his ten orchestral trios are in four movements. He also contributed to the development
of sonata form, most often used in symphonic first movements but occasionally in finales and even
slow movements as well.

Assessment and management of leaky wounds following prosthetic joint replacements: a

Department of Musculoskeletal Surgery (Leicester General Hospital).
Introduction:
Persistent wound discharge following joint replacement is a known complication. Any
discharge from the wound for 4 days is defined as persistent leakage. Our literature
showed that the incidence of persistent discharge from the wound ranges up to
14.3%(Gaine et al), wound complication which require surgical treatment is
0.33%.(Galat et al).
Galat et al (2009) conducted a retrospective analysis of 17,784 primary total knees
replacements and report that the incidence of wound complications requiring surgical
treatment was 0.33%. Gaine et al reported that the incidence of superficial infection and
early deep infections following joint replacement were 14.3% and 1.1% respectively.
We could identify several classification systems for leaky wounds. However, these
classification systems have been devised by individual authors, which have not been
repeated between papers. To be specific there is no universally accepted classification
system.
The leaky wounds often lead to treatment dilemma, prolonged hospital stay and
delayed return to activity (Gaine et al). Besides, it causes stress to the patient and the

of Progressive Tax). Nonetheless, some conservatives think that progressive tax is socialist
wealth redistribution and state theft because of what the access revenue is put towards.
Conservatives also think that progressive tax is unacceptable because it creates a sense of class
warfare, where the poor and rich don t get along with each other because of the large gap they
have in taxes. They also believe the current progressive system hurts wealthy business owners
because they are the ones who create jobs, therefore they are vital to the economy and shouldn t
have to pay more because of their success. Many liberals still believe that the

This type of loan is different from the others in terms of who gives you the loan because the loan
lender is the U.S Department of Education. You must not have adverse credit history, which
means that you have to have a history of paying bills on time and have the financial means to
eventually repay the loan back. If you have an adverse credit history, there are two ways to still
get this loan. The first is to get an endorser who does not have an adverse credit score who agrees
to repay the loan if you do not repay it yourself. This person how ever can not be your parent, it can
be your grandparents, uncle, aunts or cousins, but not you parent or guardian. This loan is also
different in that it can cover your whole tuition after you subtract other financial aid

Feminism During The Vietnam War
Research Question: How did the Vietnam War affect women and what was their role in the war
effort or protests? Sources: Donna Moreau, Waiting Wives: The Story of Schilling Manor,
Home Front to the Vietnam War (New York: Atria Books, 2005). This book gives an insight into
what American women experienced while their husbands were off at war. This allows us to see
how the war affected the women and what changes had to be made to their lives to adapt to the
loss of their husband. Michael S. Foley, Dear Dr. Spock: Letters About the Vietnam War to
America s Favorite Baby Doctor (New York: New York University Press, 2007). This book contains
many letters written by women to Dr. Spock. These letters give us insight into want women thought

This is a book that discusses different protests that are occurring in the war. The book gives
insight into some of the protests developed by women to support the Vietnamese women who
had to deal with all the carnage. This shows us what the women went through to demonstrate
how they felt about the war. G.H Gallup, The Gallup Poll: Public Opinion 1935 1971 (New
York: Random House, 1972). The polls provide a distinction between how women and other
groups felt about the war. The polls allow us to analyze, over the years, how opinions about the
war changed. I will use the polls specifically for what the women felt about the war. In my paper
I will be able to analyze how the war changed the thoughts of many women. The paper will look
in depth on how women were able to help in the war effort or how they expressed their patronage
in a different way: protests. I will be able to draw information from many different sources
including letters, magazines, polls, and books about women during this time frame. The sources I
have provided above are a few of the primary sources that I will draw my information

Case Study Of Swagen Emissions Scandal
Chapter 4: Case Studies
The best way to understand the numerous problems that have come as a consequence of corporate
misconduct in this modern world is through understanding and studying about the various cases of
high profile corporate misconduct that have occurred in recent times. In this project, the researcher
shall focus on the Satyam scandal, Volkswagenemissions scandal and the ENRON scandal.
Satyam scandal:
The Satyam scam occurred as a result of fraudulent auditing practices and poor corporate
governance regimes eventually resulting in corporate misconduct and one of the biggest scams
India has ever seen. The company misrepresented its accounts both to its board, stock exchanges,
regulators, investors and all other stakeholders. It was a case of fraud that misled the market and
various other stakeholders by lying about the company s financial health. Even basic facts such as
revenues, operating profits, interest liabilities and cash balances were grossly ... Show more content

The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) found that many VW cars being sold in America had
a defeat device or software in diesel engines that could detect when they were being tested, changing
the performance accordingly to improve results. The German car giant has since admitted cheating
emissions tests in the US.
VW has had a major push to sell diesel cars in the US, backed by a huge marketing campaign
trumpeting its cars low emissions. The EPA s findings cover 482,000 cars in the US only,
including the VW manufactured Audi A3, and the VW models Jetta, Beetle, Golf and Passat. But
VW has admitted that about 11 million cars worldwide, including eight million in Europe, are fitted
with the so called defeat device .
The company has also been accused by the EPA of modifying software on the 3 litre diesel
engines fitted to some Porsche and Audi as well as VW models. VW has denied the claims, which
affect at least 10,000

7 Features Of Macro Photography
To put it simply, macro photography is a fancy way of saying extreme close up or magnified
image. These objects are magnified to their actual life size or even greater.
WHAT IS MACRO PHOTOGRAPHY?
Have you ever wondered what that little flower symbol is on your camera? Who said you had to
be a professional photographer to take extremely close photos? The Macro mode will surprise you
with its incredible features. Taking photos so extremely close to an object is like entering a
different world in photography. Macro photos bare a real uniqueness that no other genre of
photography can show. The macro world is one of the most popular and fascinating forms of
photography out there. It allows us to take pictures so close to an object from a smaller, ... Show

The first lens creates the image and the second enlarges the object.
Tripod
Having a tripod is important in macro photography because it helps keep the camera stable while
being so close. This helps prevent the picture turning out blurry or unfocused.
7 steps on how to capture that perfect Macro shot
MACRO MODE
1. You will need to turn your camera on to macro mode . There should be a small symbol that
looks like a tulip flower on the settings that will switch it to macro. Doing this will change the
zoom and allow you to capture images at its actual size.
STABILITY
2. Set your tripod up in a position that is stable and not moveable. Macro photography requires no
camera movement and a lot of focus. The closer you get to the object, the more it will shake while
trying to take the picture. To avoid this, make sure your tripod is sturdy and will not shake.
LIGHTING
3. If there is not enough natural lighting or you re in a dark room, you will need to use flash or
you can make your own artificial lighting. You can create a golden effect by using gold tinfoil to
reflect onto the object. Natural lighting is always going to be a better option rather than using flash
or artificial

Avalk Iep Meeting Examples
The IEP meeting took place at the Dominick s school. The leader of the meeting was Dominick s
special education teacher who acted as the team coordinator. The major players in this meeting were
the parents, special education teacher, general education teacher, and the middle school teacher as
they are in preparation for Dominick s transition into middle school. In addition, the note taker,
assistant principal, and the school psychologist were present.
Both non verbal and verbal strategies were used during the IEP to create an open discussion
amongst the participants. An example of a verbal strategy that the special education teacher used
was asking the mother and father if they had any questions or concerns they would like to address at

Dettmer, Knackendoffel, Thurston (2013) address the Triadic model as a classic model that
contains three roles such as the consultant, consultee, and the client. The consultant in this meeting
was the special education teacher. The consultee was the general education teacher. Lastly, the
client was Dominick. All participants needed to collaborate together to increase Dominick
success rate with his IEP goals. The resource/consulting teacher program (RCT) was the second
model to be used during this meeting. The parents were unhappy with the suggestion to decrease
Dominick s time in his special education classroom and asserted their concerns. Presently,
Dominick receives services in the special education classroom as a form of pull out services at a
rate of 45 minutes per day. The remainder of his time spent is in the general education classroom.
By following this model, the team projects to decrease his time spent in the special education
classroom and increase his time spent in the general education classroom. However, due to
Dominick struggling to meeting his current IEP goals, it would not be beneficial for him to
decrease his time spent in the special education classroom as he requires additional 1:1 assistance,
especially in the area of writing. Dettmer, Knackendoffel, Thurston (2013), suggest that by
following this model, parents are able to provide their input for consultation

  • 2. Limb Reduction And The Prosthetic Rehabilitation Process Introduction There is an estimated 1.9 million people living with an amputated limb in America, each day 500 more Americans loss a limb (Ziegler et al., 2008). Of those who lose a limb later in life, 60 80% of them experience phantom limb pain. (Nikolajsen et al., 2001) Phantom limb pain refers to a pain or sensation that seems to come from the limb that was amputated. ( Nikolajsen et al., 2001) Of those who are congenital amputees, an estimated 1500 of them are born with upper limb reduction, while 750 of them are born with a lower limb reduction. (Canfield et al, 2006) Limb reduction refers to a defect during birth that causes a part of a limb or the entire limb to fail to fully form during pregnancy. ( Vasluian et al, 2013) A look within the quality of life of these various forms of amputees may produce viable information that could be used to assist in the prosthetic rehabilitation process. With such differences within the amputee community, there could be a possibility of certain factors uniquely effecting the quality of life before, during, and after prosthetic rehabilitation. Amputees and prosthetics are often viewed from a general perspective by the public. We often do not look further then what we see with our eyes, allowing sympathy to take the place of genuine research regarding amputees and prosthetics. The rehabilitation process for those who require limb prosthesis can be long, grueling, and emotional taxing (O Keeffe, 2011). The prosthetic rehabilitation ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Langstone Hughes Harlem At first glance, the poem Harlem by Langstone Hughes appears to be just a simple poem about thwarted dreams and desires. However, this poem is much more than what it first appears to be. This simile drenched poem is actually a reflection of the constant struggles for acceptance and equality faced by African Americans, during an era when racismplayed a large part in the average mindset of society. The title of this poem is named after a predominantly African American neighborhood in uptown Manhattan. This neighborhood acted as a sort of sanctuary for the African American people, in a racist society. The people who lived in Harlem had far more opportunities to freely express themselves and to escape segregation. Langstone Hughes s cleaver ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The scans suggest this with 90% certainty, and they also suggest that the chambers contain organic matter and metal. While the prospect of fresh tombs that have been untouched for millennia already arouses excitement among anthropologists, archeologists, and many more, there is speculation that Queen Nefertiti s remains may be found in one of the chambers. While Dr. Mamdouh Eldamaty, Egypt s antiquities minister, suggests that the remains could also be of the young pharaoh s mother or sister, he says that this could still be the discovery of the century, much like Tutankhamun s tomb was in the 1900s. Changes In America s Social Environment During the era from the end of Reconstruction through 1900, the development of American cities radically altered the nation s social environment and problems. A vast majority of Americans relocated from rural areas to the city in pursuit of new economic opportunity and the promise of a more exciting life. The rapid development of an urban society transformed America. How people lived, what and how they ate, and how they took care of their health all changed. In spite of the period s adherence to the beliefs of Social Darwinism, increasing numbers of Americans in fields that varied from religion and economics to politics, literature, and the law proposed the need for reforms. Reformers successfully elected numerous people to congress who supported their views and even won control of many city and some state governments. They also elected many people to Congress who favoured their views. In addition, Theodore Roosevelt, William Howard Taft, and Woodrow Wilson, the first three presidents elected after 1900, supported certain reform laws. By 1920, more Americans lived in cities than rural areas and almost half of the population were descendents of immigrants that came to America during the end of the American Revolution. This created a diverse society of ethnic and racial groups that varied in class standing. • 6. Roman Propaganda Expressed Through Art Unit 7 Essay Mark Sprowls AP art history The Roman rulers from ancient times are well known for their ability to coax their people into thinking a certain way through the use of convincing pieces of art. The Roman Empire was very troubled and its emperors are infamous for such things as lavish spending, unnecessary war, and even the killing of family members, and this begs the question: how were there so few large scale revolts of the Roman populous? The answer is the use of propaganda in popular Roman culture. The Roman Empire used propaganda for political purposes by incorporating Roman family values, victorious war scenes, and general Roman successes into their artworks. Adding family values to art that depicted a Roman ruler s ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... On the Arch of Constantine a plethora of works depicting the triumphs of his predecessors can be seen, which he uses to his advantage, as if he was proposing the idea that he was as great as the other emperors. In fact, he even goes as far to replace the heads of the other emperors on the arch with his own like he was responsible for the many good deeds that they had done. One example of this is a relief where Hadrian is sacrificing an animal to Apollo and then hunting boar, except Hadrian s face is replaced by Constantine s. This stealing of works was probably a way to gain favor with the populous for himself as well as the next ruling emperor. All in all these two monuments to their respective patrons were highly effective pieces of propaganda that may have been responsible for a less rebellious empire. To look back upon the propaganda used by the Roman Empire, it seems particularly ingenious that they accomplished such a feat. To keep an empire with that many problems, problems that could undermine even the greatest leaders, relatively stable is astonishing. In conclusion, through propaganda in art that depicted victorious war campaigns, successful emperors and a halcyon family life the Rulers of ancient Rome were able to extend their respective time in power as well as increasing their already great ... • 7. RWBY Prologue One year ago All was quiet within in the Forest of Forever Winter, the snow descended from the dark moon lit sky. Snow builds in the branches of the many dark skeletal trees. Treading through the snow filled path was a shrouded figure wearing black and blue garments beneath a slightly tattered navy blue cloak with black inner lining, billowing in the breeze. The lower half of his face was obscured by a black mask and his eyes hidden beneath the hood. Strapped across his back is a DaitЕЌ with a lock attached to the sheath and the latch hooked to the guard. Multiple times Corrie hears Betsie speak of how sorry she felt for the German soldiers and how she wishes she could help them see the err of their ways. Betsie s compassion towards her captors, assaulters, and enemies profoundly illustrates her love for the human race and the desire she has that all know Christ. As a whole, the novel contains a few weaknesses. The first weakness arises from the time difference between the events and the writing of the novel. Corrie ten Boom wrote THE HIDING PLACE twenty years after the fact. It is extremely likely that the events depicted in the novel are shades of what actually occurred. Memories fade and time distorts the reality of the past and because of this, I feel that the book would have been more factually accurate had Corrie ten Boom written it much sooner. Another weakness in the book derives itself from ten Boom s heavy reliance on her Christian faith. As I read the book, I felt that some of the circumstances were glossed over and events were chocked up to being merely miracles. However, I do agree with Corrie ten Boom s major premise throughout the novel that religion can play a crucial role during tough ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

He described it as an awareness of the relationship between a person s behavior and experience and the wider culture that shaped the person s choice and perceptions. The first is the melody played by the violins and trumpets. This is the layer of sound which is most prominent throughout A. The second is the timpani and viola part. Now, one may ask how beauty could possibly play a noticeable impact on situations concerning economic or political opportunities. Yet, it does. A laboratory experiment was conducted to fully study the impact of beauty premium , the positive association and relationship between attractiveness and wages, on economic success in the labor market. The experiment was conducted by Tatyana Deryugina, a professor of finance and her companions. Although illegal, labor market discrimination has occurred based on physical appearances and Tatyana wanted to test this notion. Deriving from this experiment, they were able to conclude that the beauty premium does indeed exist although only in certain circumstances. Only in tasks such as bargaining does beauty premium significantly show a positive correlation. In other tasks such as analysis or data entry, the notion of beauty premium does not exist. They state, we find that the beauty premium in bargaining completely vanishes in the second round of bidding when the task is repeated, which suggests that employers learn quickly that performance is uncorrelated with attractiveness (Deryugina 2015). The point is that physical beauty is what deceives the mind into thinking that the more attractive one is, the more competent they may be in performing and executing skills such as bargaining. ... These two events are prominent features of CKD and its complications in humans [3,4,5,6,7]. Increased oxygen radical formation was found in CKD, in the presence of a reduced antioxidant defense [8]. Patients suffer from chronic microinflammation and infections [9]. Gum Arabic (GA) is derived from exudates of Acacia senegal or Acacia seyal trees. It consists of a mixture of polysaccharides (major component) plus oligosaccharides and glycoproteins [1,2]; however, its composition can vary with its source, climate and soil. Sudan is the world s largest producer, followed by many other African countries. It readily dissolves in water to form solutions characterized by low viscosity. This allows its use in various applications [3]. Gum Arabic was evaluated for acceptable daily intake for man by the Joint FAO/WHO Expert Committee on Food Additives since 1969 [5]; however, Sudanese people in Western Sudan had been using it for long time without limitations. • 24. The Sarbanes Oxley Act ( Sox ) The Sarbanes Oxley Act (SOX) was put into legislation on July 30, 2002 by President George W. Bush, for the purpose of regulating the financial practices and a host of other corporate and securities issues for all publically traded organizations. Essentially, it was an attempt to impose tighter controls on the financial reporting, to try and provide more transparency in financial reporting, and to hold people accountable in the financial reporting. (Dewey, 2012). It s important to note that the SOX law applies to all companies registered under Section 12 of the Securities and Exchange Act of 1934. Privately held and non for profit companies are not impacted by the SOX law, however many have elected to voluntarily comply with the legislation. The law was enacted due to several corporate scandals in early 2000 2002; Enron, WorldCom and Tyco to name just a few. The early 2000 s will always be remembered for the deep recession and decline in economic activity, not just in the US, but in the global marketplace as well. As with any legislation, there are pro s and con s. I believe the law was the right thing to enact; the problem many see with it is the manner in which it was mandated. Many would even argue that the law was not needed since we already have laws in place to protect and prosecute fraudulent behavior, but those were clearly not strict enough given the billions of dollars that investors lost. I m sure in the near future, we ll see that SOX doesn t ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 25. Casilda In The Judge s Wife By Isabel Allende Indeed, a woman should soften but not weaken a man. This supposition exemplifies the character Casilda from The Judge s Wife short story by Isabel Allende. Although not seen by all as the main character, Casilda is the strongest and most evolutionary personality of the short story. The Judge s Wife is an exceptional tale that follows the progression of characters as they fight against their predetermined destinies and how they are viewed in others eyes. Casilda is a catalyst for the evolution of almost every characterin the story. Not only does her character grow in The Judge s Wife, but she is also a medium for the growth of the two other main characters in the story. Casilda molds the personality of a majority of the characters in the story, distinctly Judge Hidalgo and Nicolas Vida. Casilda noticeably changed the character of Judge Hidalgo, into a softer man, in his field of professionalism. In a close analysis of this narrative, we find that the Judge was a very cranky bachelor who was very feared by all, in the village he lived, for his stubbornness and severe temper. We are told that, when he enforced the law, Judge Hidalgo failed to give any account of the whys and wherefores behind the indicted committing the crime. According to the author, not only did the judge refuse to apply any common sense in his judgments but was also equally harsh in his condemnation of the theft of a chicken as of premeditated murder (Allende 284). Across the village, not a single person was safe from his cruelty. However, the judge changed, significantly after he married Casilda. All this came to reality when the priest and a group of Catholic women approached Casilda to plead for the life of Juana the Forlorn, a poor old woman who was subjected to torture for the reason that she made an effort to capture her son. Casalda heeded to their requests and set forth for the town, with a bottle of fresh water and a basket of food, taking her children dressed in their Sunday best. In spite of the soldiers struggles to keep her away, the cries of her children crossed the years of Judge Hidalgo. This made him realize the mistakes he had been making prompting him, Judge Hidalgo, to come down in person and unlock the cage, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 27. The Conflict Between The Church And Secular Authority Through the Investiture Conflict in 1076, it can be seen that the Church had wanted to dominate the secular authority. The Investiture Conflict had marked a change in the relationship between the Church and secular authority in which the Church wanted to establish its right to rule over the secular rulers. The disputes between the Church and secular authority were a continuation of an ongoing tension over who had ultimate authority to rule over Christendom and within kingdoms. These disputes also dealt with the rights and privileges the Church had acquired within kingdoms especially the elevation of the clergy above the laity by putting the clergy above the law with separate church courts. By the mid eleventh century, it can be seen that the Church had gained strength to challenge the secular ruler for authority in their own kingdoms and establishing special rights and privileges for its clergy. These special rights and privileges had put clergy members on top of the rest of the population. The two most important disputes between the Church and secular authority over these issues were between King Henry II of England(1154 1189) and Thomas Becket, Archbishop of Canterbury from 1162 to 1170, and that between King Philip IV of France (1285 1314) and PopeBoniface VIII (1294 1303). Both Henry II and Philip IV wanted to be able to better control crime in their kingdoms due to the separate church courts for clergy that led to issues of criminous clerks. While Becket and ... Though, due to the complex nature of both neuroscience and psychology, Freeman begins with a much needed clarification regarding semantics. Freeman depicts the differences of intent, motive, and desire after introducing his theory on self determination: Individuals are credited and responsible for their actions. Within the first chapter, Freeman lays out the books format by stating not only the topic of each proceeding chapter, but also paragraph summaries of each, almost as if giving an outline to an argument. This book is much like a staircase; building on top of the previous platform. Beginning with his theory on our intentionality, Freeman then branches to his beliefs on meaning, and how meaning is derived from intentionality. To the author, meanings are our personal interpretations of our intentional behaviors. Our self estimations of the consequences of intentional behaviors creates what we perceive to be the meanings of our actions. This idea of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Review Of Okin s Vulnerability By Marriage Within Okin s Vulnerability by Marriage article her thesis is similar to Beauvoir s idea in previous readings that the oppression of women in contemporary liberal societies is primarily continued by the gendered division of labor (GDL) in a family, for the most part the fact that women are assigned responsibility within the home and are not paid. Also, Okin believes that women s oppression is caused by feminine gendersocialization but she also adds that she believes that a major contribution to the oppression of women in liberal societies is due to women s role inside the home. Even if women do work a full time job, they truly aren t done working when they get home after work, they tend to do necessary things around the house such as laundry, washing dishes, taking care of children, etc., and women on average work more hours per week than a man even though they may not be paid for it. Even though I think that Okin s view is true and her arguments are acceptable, I do think that there are some additional arguments she could have made that would have made her case better. In this paper I will address Okin s arguments as well as present some of my own additional arguments that I feel could have beneficial. Ha Jin – The Bridegroom Essay Ha Jin The Bridegroom Described as utopian in nature, the Chinese culture is often in pursuit for the perfect individual, a harmonious and structured society where the citizens as a whole create the ideal culture. In a collection of short stories entitled The Bridegroom, author Ha Jin documents this aspect of reality in homeland China. Primarily for the purposes of instruction and satirical verse, Ha Jin, shows how people are trying to find themselves in a society that focuses on the whole of the country rather than the individual. He is able to interconnect this theme of individualism through four major stories in the book while presenting Chineseness or satire of fictional verse as a way to focus on the changes throughout China ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The Chinese government was organized and wanted to do what they thought was right for the state as a whole. Unfortunately for Guhan, he was loosing his identity and individualism for the greater good of China. Abnormal behavior is never more apparent than in the story titled In the Kindergarten. When Shaona becomes the second child of her household, she is forced to live outside the city limits in a rural foster home. It is my assumption that Ha Jin is referring to the second child as a male since they are heavily praised in the Chinese Culture. The story depicts how children at a young age do whatever they want to do, inherit bad language and often misbehave. Social conformity and propaganda have yet to be ingrained, as quoted when Weilan, another student in the kindergarten is caught saying Big asshole (47) to another student, who in reply says, Say that again, bitch! He went up to her, grabbed her shoulders, pushed her to the ground, and kicked her buttocks (47). Compared to Alive, this story focuses on the Chinese attempt to secure conformity for all of its citizens. In my opinion, the Kindergarten story is what Chinese life is like prior to the events in the short story Alive. It shows the purity of children at an early age and how social norms are not necessarily inherited; they are learned. Main characters Beina and Haung ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Chloramphenicol And Protein Synthesis Lab Report Introduction In this practical, we will investigate and compare the mechanisms of action of the drugs: Chloramphenicol and Rifampicin, specifically by identifying whether their effects are bacteriostatic or bactericidal, and by looking at their effect on RNA and protein synthesis Antibiotics can be divided into two categories: Bactericidal or Bacteriostatic. Bactericidal antibiotics directly kill the micro organisms, and depending on the amount given, the bacteria will not recover after administration of the antibiotic is ceased. Bacteriostatic antibiotics prevent growth of the bacteria, by targeting proteins that are involved in reproduction. Once the bacteriostatic antibiotic is removed, population numbers usually increase again. One of the drugs we will be investigating is Chloramphenicol.
