Essay on the Power of Language in The Plague
The Power of Language in The Plague
In his novel The Plague, Albert Camus presents a pseudo historical documentary of a plague that
confines and controls the citizens of Oran within their city gates. The plague possesses the power of
life and death over the people, as it determines which citizens will face their death or those who work
to stop death. These latter men, personified by the character s of Rieux, Grand, and Tarrau, each
struggle endlessly to master the plague s power over their lives, even with the realization they may
never succeed. For Camus, this idea of impossible struggle against an unseen power resonates
throughout the novel and reoccurs in another plague which these men must contend the limits of

47). Here Camus presents the power of certain words like syndrome as their use suggests or outlines a
certain course of action for the doctors. Rieux recognizes this power and initially rejects the use of
syndrome as it would mean almost immediate implications upon his profession as a doctor. Camus
furthers this when Rieux considers the use of the word plague . Rieux hesitates, knowing that this
word possesses certain implications that will change the lives of all Oran s citizens through
quarantine. Thus for Rieux, It s not the question of the term I use; it s a question of time (P.47). In this
description Rieux establishes that the real issue of using the term plague concerns whether the time is
right to unleash the word s power to change both their careers and the townspeople s lives. Through
Rieux s hesitation in stating these terms, Camus demonstrates how language, like plague, can have the
power of life or death over people like Rieux.
However, Rieux also realizes that he will never master or control this power, no matter how carefully
he chooses his words. Rieux elaborates upon this in his descriptions of the letters and telegrams he
writes as ultimately resulting in the living words, into which we had as it were transfused our heart s
blood, were drained of any meaning (p.63). Here Camus s beautiful metaphor illustrates Camus
conception of language as a living entity that is both

Age of Exploration Essay 4
The Age of Exploration was a period from the early 1400s and continuing into the early 1600s, during
which European ships traveled around the world to search for new trade routes to feed growing
capitalism in Europe. The most commonly sought after new trade route was to the Spice Islands,
which are now the Indonesian archipelago, in southern Asia. Spices were originally brought to
Western Europe by land routes, but because of a lack cargo space and extremely long travel times the
prices were very high. The advantages of ships were that they had much larger cargo capacities and
were faster than caravans. The obvious solution to get cheaper spices was to carry them by ships.

worked for the Dutch East India Company, mapped what is now the New York area. He discovered
Manhattan on September 11, 1609, and continued up the Hudson River, until he arrived at the site
where New York State s capital city, Albany, now stands. The Dutch established New Amsterdam
(now New York City) in 1613. The British took the city in September 1664, and renamed it New York
after the English Duke of York and Albany. The Dutch briefly regained it in August 1673, renaming
the city New Orange, but ceded it permanently in November 1674. The French attempted to colonize
the south eastern coast of what is now Jacksonville, Florida. By the 1570s they had built fort Caroline
on the Saint John s River. An expedition intended to destroy the Spanish settlement at Saint Augustine
failed when the invasion fleet was destroyed by a hurricane. The Survivors were captured and
executed by the Spanish, and Saint Augustine stayed under Spanish control until 1819 when Florida
was bought by the United States. Ferdinand Magellan, a former Portuguese officer commanding a
Spanish fleet, began the first circumnavigation of the Earth in 1519. Magellan was killed Cebu in the
Philippines in 1521. The two remaining ships of his expedition

Mongols Influence
Around 1200 1360 B.C in what is now Present day Mongolia lived the Nomads of the Asian Steppe.
Among these Nomads lived the Great Genghis Khan, one of the World s most famous and fiercest
Leaders of all time. In the legend of Temujin s birth, he was born with a blood clot in his fist as a sign
from the Gods saying that he was going to be a fierce leader. The Mongol Empire had a major Positive
impact on History and their people, including the Large rule of the Mongols, the Pax Mongolica, and
lastly the Pony Express.
Genghis Khan had fought his way to the top after successfully winning battle after battle. His amazing
strategies would later shape and develop the Mongol Empire. Genghis Khan would rule over 12

International Airport ( Atl ) Should Implement Radio...
Hartsfield Jackson Atlanta International Airport (ATL) should implement radio frequency
identification (RFID) tags in the airport s baggage handling operations for a variety of reasons. First,
implementing this system will be beneficial to airport workers, travelers, and the airlines. Second, the
cost of lost luggage fees and millions of dollars being spent in reimbursements will be significantly
reduced. Third, the overall control of luggage will be more efficient and effective. Fourth, traveler
satisfaction will improve, as the luggage process will be hassle free. In order for the RFID tagging
system to properly function, it is important for the airport to make an effective plan. Planning which

Along with the workers catching a break through the implementation of this new system, travelers will
not be destined to worry as much about long check in lines before their flight, and the possibility of a
misplaced bag when arriving at their destination. As far as the airlines themselves, the rankings and
reporting s for lost luggage and mishandled bags will be at their lowest through the implementation of
the RFID tagging system at the ATL airport. Although using radio frequency identification tags in
airport baggage handling operations can be costly, the advantages of implementing this system at the
ATL airport will save the airport a lot of money in the long run. These tags do cost significantly more
than the standard bar code tags in which are in use at this time, but the overall fees and
reimbursements that are being paid yearly will be significantly reduced if these tags are indeed
implemented. While the bar coding system is inexpensive, the efficiency of the system is its number
one downfall. The barcodes often smudge, tear, and most importantly, the tags are set in stone once
they are printed. There is no access to make corrections to these tags if a passenger s destination
changes due to, say, inclement weather, flight cancellations, or being re routed. RFID tags on

The Education Framework Of Nigeria
Presentation
Education is said to be act or procedure of bestowing or securing general learning, building up the
forces of thinking and judgment, and by and large of setting oneself up or others mentally for
experienced life. The Ministry of Education is responsible for education in Nigeria. The education
framework in Nigeria is separated into Kindergarten, essential training, auxiliary training and tertiary
training.
Foundation Problem
The present example of Nigeria Education framework, especially the Tertiary Institutions has been an
issue of sensitivity toward the administration, accomplices, educationists, managers (home and
abroad), graduates and diverse establishments. This paper took a gander at the present pattern of
tertiary education as far as educational modules, instructors, students, funding, facilities, industrial
collaborations and additionally showing techniques with the point of view of proposing the way
ahead.

The Functions Of Nonverbal Communication
1.9. Nonverbal communication:
Nonverbal communication transmits messages that are not expressed by words and can be coded by
creating different meanings. Nonverbal communication can replace, repeat, contradict, complement or
enhance the message conveyed through words. It can be defined very simply as a type of
communication without words. The importance of nonverbal communication was demonstrated in
1967 by Albert Mehrabian. Following a study that concluded that only 7% of the content of a message
is transmitted through verbal communication, while 38% is transmitted through voice and 55% by
body language. (Ronald Adler 2006, 154)
1.9.1. Types of nonverbal communication:
Just as the verbal language is broken up into several categories there are different types of nonverbal
communication.

The repetition is the function that people use to points out by the use words where a street is. They
also use hand gestures and signs in order to communicate; in this case we can say that it refer to the
doubling of words by signs.
The function of substitution involves replacing a word or a verbal expression with a gesture of
combination of gestures.
The complementary function refers to the fact that messages are transmitted verbally accompanied by
a nonverbal way of transmission of information, which is in addition to the sent verbal message.
The accentuating function involves emphasizing verbal messages by gesturing and pointing, exactly
when the word we want to emphasize is pronounced. In a text we emphasize important words using
italic or bold fonts, so the main idea will be much easier understood.
The function of adjustment refers to the fact that nonverbal communication allows us to control the

The broad focus of this case is one of strategy planning. Perpetual Mercy Hospital has to determine
the best course of action to help the Downtown Health Clinic achieve its stated objectives of
expanding the hospital s referral base, increasing referrals of privately insured patients, establishing a
liaison with the business community, and becoming self supporting within three years of its opening.
This last objective is jeopardized by the possibility of a competing clinic opening 5 blocks north of the

Racial Disparities In America
The United States of America has become a police state. Racism, in America, is not dead, but rather
revived and practiced through the criminal justice system; blacks were the main targets of police
brutality and patrols. The prison system has been manipulated to put people of color in jail, more than
whites. Hispanics, now, are also becoming targets of the American policing system. How can America
change its policing strategies to being more just and fair? The United States should stop making
racially biased legislation and patrol all neighborhoods equally. The legal system should implement
punishments that do not create more criminals, but rather help rehabilitate those who are deemed
criminals. America has had racial discrimination since ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
One could see that police are more likely to use force when threatened with charges for improper
usage of force, which strengthens the argument that police are not held as accountable for their actions
as they should be. In front of me was a child in whose world being stopped and frisked was so regular,
such a fact of everyday life, that he had reasonably concluded that it must be lawful. (Zhao, Lai, Ren,
Lawton, 2011). This quote shows that police are not held accountable for their actions. Police are able
to use legislation that unfairly targets minorities and be free from liability. If policing in the United
States is focused on minorities, then how can the country advocate for liberty and justice for all? The
criminal justice system should be defined when one looks at how minorities are discriminated against
in America s society today. That definition includes the courts of law and the prison system. In
America, there is five percent of the population in the world, however; we house twenty five percent

Plato s Allegory Of The Cave And The Matrix By The Wachowskis
Plato once said that, Ignorance [is] the root and stem of all evil . Ignorance is the cause of everything
that is wrong and bad in the world since people are unable to see the truth. If people start breaking free
from ignorance, mankind will become happier and more transparent. In the short story, Allegory of
The Cave by Plato and The Matrix by the Wachowskis, they portray the idea that in order to gain
enlightenment, one must break free from ignorance; which opens himself to knowledge; this new truth
must then be shared with others for the good of mankind.

Sentencing Disparities And Race On Criminal Sentencing
Introduction Sentencing disparities as a result of an individual s race or ethnic background, has been
one of the most frequently investigated topics in criminological research. (Mitchell, Mackenzie 2004).
Several studies have attempted to understand the impact of the offenders race on criminal sentencing
but there has been variation in the results some of studies concluded race does effect sentencing
regardless of the legal variables; some studies revealed it does not; while other studies concluded that
race does impact sentencing when coupled with other factors. (Pratt 1998).
Research has revealed that sentencing disparities by race are a result of the type of criminal offense as
the variable to the impact on sentencing decisions. The implications of sentencing disparities by race
suggests that minority individuals are targeted more frequently in the criminal justice system.
Accordingly, there is a clear need to explore all possible variables that may create sentencing
disparities for minorities. The current study will fill some of the void of former research by exploring
sentencing disparities among a large sample of gang members and non gang members who were
sentenced to prison for serious crimes in the state of California. Specifically, the study is interested in
examining whether gang members become targeted by law enforcement personnel because of their
gang related activities, or because of their race. The focus of this study is necessary because consist

Redemption Essay
The literal definition of the word redemption is the act, process, or an instance of redeeming
(forgiven). When I as a human being think of redemption I think of it as a way to accept, forgive and
move on after an instance of extreme, usually emotional, infliction. When we think of this in terms of
prison, humans are put into isolation where they are given ample time to logically think of these
trespasses and how they are paying for it with their lives. At the same time these people are doing very
manual labor while getting paid very little in order to redeem themselves to hopefully regain some
rank again in society. In life where most of us live outside walls redemption comes in many different
forms, although not all as painful. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
When I myself am witness to acts of injustice my first reaction is usually anger, frustration which is
then followed by a very vocal complaint. The same reactions come about when I myself am put under
circumstances of injustice and I can only hope, but am not certain, that this is something regularly
occurs with humans in general. I would have to say that some of the factors that contribute to the ways
that I respond to injustice would be feelings that had occurred as a child when put into unjust
situations as well as knowledge that I was given while growing up in both educational institutions as
well as living in general. While I watched the movie Shawshank Redemption I witness an idea
developed mainly by Stephen King that basically gave me hope by helping me see that due to what I
call karma, the people that are exaggerating unjust behavior will eventually get what is coming to
them. This is displayed well by the showing of all the ignorant behavior put on by the warden and
what happened to him in the end. In our society taking away a persons freedom is considered justice
because at this point these people do not have a choice. The choices that they have made so far have
only gotten them into trouble, now they have given that up and are subjected to be treated basically
like a slave. Solitary confinement is considered the most severe punishment that we can inflict in our

This monitoring method uses periodic measurements of a monitored parameter and implements the
data collected against time. Generally, any machine has a period of time before stop called early life
which is the period from the operation till it decays to the normal life period. Typically the amplitude
of parameters is high at the starting however it decreases rapidly to normal levels. The second one is
the normal life which is the period needed to perform a specific function. One of the maintenance
objectives is to maintain this period for as long as possible [6]. 1 2 3 Noise monitoring Noise

The Open Office Project Essay
The Open Office Project (OOP) is part of an open source project called Open Office developed by Sun
Microsystems. The OpenOffice.org project is primarily sponsored by Sun Microsystems, which is the
primary contributor of code to the Project. Our other major corporate contributors include Novell,
RedHat, RedFlag CH2000, IBM, and Google. Additionally, over 450,000 people from nearly every
curve of the globe have joined this Project with the idea of creating the best possible office suite that
all can use (Open Office, 2013). Basically the OPP software mirrors the software suite of products
offered by Microsoft. Open Office Project is very similar to Microsoft Project but dose not offer every
feature.

There are other negative sides; Software metrics can be very powerful tools that help achieve your
goals but it is important to use them correctly, as they also have the power to demotivate project teams
and steer development in the wrong direction.
The utilization of OOP for the J. Smith Associates (JSA) furniture equipment project could be useful
with additional training of the OOP software. The JSA furniture equipment project will follow the
Traditional Project Management (TPM) approach. The Linear Project Management Life Cycle Model
is the most appropriate TPM. The project follows scope, plan, launch, monitor control and close
processes and the OOP are well suited for a linear project. With easier access to the project plan via
lap tops or hand held internet access devices the full project plan becomes portable. Changes and
updates through OOP will automatically update other documents affected by these events. The client
or senior management can access project plan at any time to follow the progress of the operation.
The OOP software functions as a scheduler allowing a software user the ability to visualize former,
current and future events. This is very useful tool to follow up with subcontractors to insure their
readiness for their phase of the project. Additional OOP functions can assist with the monitoring and
control of subcontractor s actions.
Many large scale operations only use whiteboards and post it notes with a high level of

How Technology Helps With The Sales Process And How It Can...
The purpose of this essay is to discuss how technology can assist with the sales process and how it can
develop a trust based relationship between businesses.
Technology plays a very important role in the sales process, as new trends arise such as the use of
mobile applications, social media, database management systems and cloud computing the ability to
store information online and be able to access your data conveniently, everywhere and anywhere you
go as long as you have an internet connection has become the new meta. The concept of selling has
evolved into a many different activities comparatively to just a decade ago. The successful
professional salesperson of today and the future is likely a better listener than a talker (Thomas N.
Ingram, 2011). As mentioned by Thomas, a typical salesperson today are more focuses in developing
long term relationships with their customers rather than the historical methods such as the short term,
heavy selling methodologies. Businesses have moved on, the world has accepted and adopted the new
technology to help improve the sales process. Seller have become more aware of the customer needs
and requirements and are finding new ways to help satisfy them. There are many selling approaches
and are used for different types of selling situations. Each approach has their own distinctive way of
persuading the buyer and can result in different levels of effectiveness. Using technology can have its
benefits and also comes with a cost that can

The Greatest Abundance Of Micro And Macroplastics
The greatest abundance of micro and macroplastics were found at the non urbanized locations,
contradicting the initial hypothesis, that micro and macroplastic abundances would be highest at
urbanized locations. However, overall microplastic abundance, with the exception of Silver Strand
was highest at the two urbanized locations where there was the highest amount of beach goers (figure
3). A study of microplastics in the Chinese inner sea revealed that after sampling sand from both
bathing and non bathing beach sites, bathing sites possessed the greatest amounts of microplastics (Yu,
2016). A potential explanation as to why Silver Strand s microplastic abundance was so high could be
the fact that it offers fishing, picnicking, as well as ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This is most likely because the sampling location for Torrey Pines is, as previously mentioned right in
front of a cliff. Therefore, any oncoming ocean breezes to shore will merely push and accumulate the
debris at the bottom of the cliff, making it much more difficult for those macroplastics to undergo
degradation. In addition even though Torrey Pines is not an urbanized area due to its geographical
make up trash can easily accumulate on the beach from land during storms. Rain carries the
accumulated plastic debris from the top of the cliffs down to the beach below.
It was interesting to note when analyzing microplastic abundance that only microplastic fibers were
found. As the majority of macroplastics found were substances that upon degradation would not be
broken down into fibers, but microscopic plastic pieces or nurdles. In several other previous studies
where high levels of microplastic pollution were analyzed in mountain lakes, fibers were not the most
abundant microplastics found (Free, 2014). Instead, small plastic fragments made up the majority of
microplastics that were found. The reason that these hard microplastics were not found was due to the
fact that the majority of the macroplastics that would have degraded into these smaller microscopic
plastic fragments were absent or removed from the beaches except for Torrey Pines, whose
macroplastic abundance was previously discussed. There was also a variety of differing fiber colors

The Passive and Pitiful Ethan Frome Essay
The Passive and Pitiful Ethan Frome
Ethan Frome is a man torn between what he wants to do, and what he should do. Life in a rural town
can be tough, but when faced with complications, it can be almost unbearable. When Ethan decides to
marry his distant cousin, Zeena, his life turns down a long and lonesome road. Ethan s lack of
assertiveness and decisive action only worsens his already lonesome and stressful life.
Though too intelligent for rural life, Ethan finds himself stuck in an average man s shoes. Leaving any
opportunity he had to become someone in life, Ethan moves back to Starkfield to take care of his
ailing mother and attend to their farm(Wharton 29). Rather than living a lonesome ... Show more

Mattie Silver s arrival at the Frome household is everything Ethan needs. His lack of assertiveness has
led to his deep hatred of his wife and his life. He soon falls in love with young Mattie and when Zeena
decides it s time for her to go, Ethan hesitates to stand up for himself and Mattie. When he is forced to
take her away, he tells Mattie about a story similar to theirs(Wharton, 56); he offers the chance for
them to run away together, but Mattie declines. If Ethan had only made the decision for them, or stood
up to Zeena, his life would be much better off.
When Mattie is finally forced to go, Ethan faces the hardest decision he s ever had to make. Both
Mattie and he are in love with each other and neither of the two know what to do now that they will be
separated forever. Ethan decides to take Mattie to the train station instead of letting Jotham Powell,
which turns out to be one of Ethan s many bad choices. On their way to the train stop, Ethan takes
Mattie sledding for the first time since she arrived in Starkfield(Wharton, 69). The fun they had
together while sledding only reminded them of what they would be missing when Mattie finally had to
leave. Faced with no where else to go, Mattie suggests to Ethan that they ride the sled straight in to the

Economic Integration And The European Union
After the horrific aftermath that was created by World War II, Europe worked towards economic and
political integration. The economic integration began in 1958, with the creation of the European
Economic Community (EEC), which included Germany, France, Belgium, Italy, Luxembourg and the
Netherlands. The EEC removed tariffs on goods produced within those six countries, in order to
promote trade and reconstruction after the war. In 1993 the EEC was renamed to the European Union
(EU), when the focus of just economic integration began to include policies of climate, environment
and health to external relations and security, justice and migration in Europe (Europa). In 1981,
Greece became a member of the EU. Twenty years later, Greece adopted the Euro as its currency.
Recently, Greece has been experiencing many economic problems, that threaten the overall stability of
the Euro. Although Greece is still part of the Eurozone today, its inability to pay off debt, lack of
effective reform, and its negative effect on the European Union as a whole, will eventually lead to its
exit from the Eurozone. The 2008 Great Recession, Greece had the highest debt in the European
Union. The Greek inefficient tax collection, and its unemployment was worse than unemployment in
the United States during the Great Depression, which made it very difficult to cut spending (O Brien).

Comparing The Fukushima And The Chernobyl Disasters
The Fukushima and the Chernobyl Disasters
Both the Fukushima Daiichi nuclear accident of 2011 and the Chernobyl nuclear accident of 1986
were both rated seven according to the International Nuclear and Radiological Event Scale. However,
the two nuclear accidents differed in terms of their cause, the response from the government and
health effects.
Key facts about both accidents
The Chernobyl accident caused by a flawed reactor design which was being operated by inadequately
trained people. The steam explosion that resulted from the accident released more than 5% radioactive
reactor downwind into the atmosphere. Two employees died instantly at the site while 28 others died a
few weeks later as a result of radiation poisoning (Balonov, 2006). In Fukushima, the accident was
caused by the earthquake and tsunami that hit the plant. Fukushima power station was worst hit by the
earthquake and tsunami destroying the backup power, building facility and the external nuclear power
supply. The following morning, after the accident had occurred, radioactive materials were found
scattered in the environment. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

The Dispute Between China And The Philippines Essay
The Dispute between China and the Philippines over the South China Sea The territorial and maritime
disputes over the South China Sea (SCS) have been ongoing for decades. The disputes have been
considered to be one the fiercest contested in Asia. The South China Sea is an enclosed sea surrounded
by several different states. China, the Philippines, Vietnam, Brunei, Taiwan, and Malaysia all
surrounded the South China Sea. The main cause of tension in this dispute is because China claims to
have historical sovereignty over all of the South China Sea. Associations of Southeast Asian Nations
(ASEAN) have come up with different discussions and suggestions on how to end the disputes with
favorable conditions for all contending states. They use the principles of the United Nation
Convention of the Law of the Sea (UNCLOS) and form the Declaration on the Conduct of Parties in
the South China Sea (DOC). The states surrounding the South China Sea possess 12 nautical miles
territorial sea and 200 nautical miles exclusive economic zones (EEZs). Thus, the South China Sea is
not only international waters, instead, it is also overlapping exclusive economic zones. According to
UNCLOS, disputes over exclusive economic zones must be resolved through negotiations by the
contending states. Many of these contending Southeast Asian states have negotiated their maritime
boundaries, however, China fails to comply. China claims that it owns all of the South China Sea, and
therefore, has no need to

Jap A Very Long, Intense, And Confusing History
Japan has a very long, intense, and confusing history. Every time a new emperor took to power, the
capital would move to a different city. For example, in the year 710, Nara was the first permanent
capital, but in 784 the capital moved to Nagaoka (jnto.jp). When Tokugawa was appointed shogun, the
government was established in Edo, which is modern day Tokyo. As to keep the long, convoluted
history at bay, I m not going to cover all of it but rather start at the beginning of the 20th century. In
the year 1904, Japan and Russia had been fighting over Manchuria, the area around Korea, for quite
some time. Japan had declared war on Russia, but before the declaration had been received in
Moscow, the Japanese attacked Russian troops that were stationed at Port Arthur. During the next year,
there were many battles in Korea and the Sea of Japan, and, although both sides experienced high
casualties, Japan was able to remain victorious. In 1905, representatives from both countries met in
Portsmouth, New Hampshire for a peace agreement that was mediated. The treaty was finally decided
upon to give Japan Korea and most of Southern Manchuria. This victory for Japan was really
important as it had finally made them an Imperial Power. Because Japan they had won, Japan became
the first Asian power to defeat a European power (www.brittanica.com). Only 9 years later, Japan had
decided to enter World War 1. In 1914, Japan declared war against Germany. They demanded the

Young Goodman Brown Allegory Analysis
An allegory is a type of literature that contains a hidden meaning or message about its characters or
setting. In Nathaniel Hawthorne s Young Goodman Brown, allegory is abundantly utilized throughout
the story in the form of characters such as Goodman Brown, representing the universal man of Salem;
Faith, his wife, also representing his religious faith; and Goody Cloyse as a high ranking religious
figure that is secretly hiding an ominous side. Through the allegory, Hawthorne expresses the idea that
the loss of purity and innocence is inevitable.
Young Goodman Brown was cleverly given his name by Hawthorne to refer to the everyday Christian
man living in Salem during the Colonial time period. The first name Goodman literally describes a
good man of Christian faith while Brown represents a common American last name, hence creating a
universal character. Allegory is woven throughout the story, including when Goodman Brown finds
his beloved wife, Faith, practicing rituals with a cult that he encounters in the forest. When Goodman
Brown initially believes he hears Faith s voice in the forest, he investigates only to find her pink hair
ribbons hanging from a branch. At this, Goodman Brown cries, My Faith is gone... There is no good
on earth; and sin is but a name. Come, devil; for to thee is this world given (Hawthorne 1038). In this
cry for help, Goodman Brown expresses both the loss of allegiance to his wife and the loss of his
religious faith in God and the Christian

In contemporary society modern medicine usually takes on a curative role, it attempts to cure.
Complementary therapy however takes on a very different role; it is used to maintain wellbeing and
health as well as a helping to restore wellbeing to before illness or poor health. These therapies are
usually used in conjunction with modern medicine. This is usually to relieve symptoms that traditional
medicine fails to help with or to boost a person s emotional or physical health.
Reflexology
There have been many studies conducted into what kind of effect reflexology can have on various
conditions.
One area that has had many studies conducted regarding the effects reflexology is Cancer treatment.
The role of complementary therapy in this instance is to help manage a client s symptoms that they

The Effects Of Second Hand Smoke On Children
Second Hand Smoke
Do people know second hand smoke not only affects the person smoking, but it also affects the people
around them? Not everyone is aware of the risks of second hand smoke nor how it can effect their
future. Second hand smoke is an issue that affects everyone and everybody around it such as unborn
children, children, adults, non smokers and should be avoided as much as possible.
What exactly is second hand smoke? Second hand smoke is a combination of burning tobacco and the
exhaled smoke. Not only is first hand smoke harmful, but second hand smoke is as bad if not worse
for a person. Smoke in general smells badly, can irritate people s eyes or nose, sticks to clothing or

The Benefits Of Sleeping On A Problem Essay
The Benefits of Sleeping on a Problem Introduction If you re like most people, you have probably
been told, when you re struggling with a problem or decision, that it s a good idea to sleep on it. It s
something that people say so frequently that it has become something of a cliché. Like most clichés,
though, it turns out that there s some truth to it. In 1865, a German chemist named Friedrich August
Kekule von Stradonitz solved a problem that had been puzzling scientists for decades. He published a
paper identifying the structure of benzene as a ring of carbon atoms. Years later, when he was giving a
talk about how he made his breakthrough discovery, he credited it to a dream he d had. In the dream,
he saw an image of a serpent swallowing its own tail, something that is called ouroboros. The symbol
dates back to early Indian, Egyptian and Greek mythology. The sight of the symbol revealed the ring
like structure of benzene to him. Von Stradonitz is not alone. History is littered with similar examples.
Human beings sometimes wake up with the solution to a complex problem, something they have been
wrestling with, clear in their heads. Why does this happen? Is there scientific merit to the idea of
sleeping on a problem? In this article, we will explore the notion that sleeping on a problem can help
us solve it. It s a somewhat complex topic, but one worth investigating. The first key to understanding
what happens in our brains while we sleep is to talk about why we need

What is a Veteran? According to Title 38 of the Code of Federal Regulations, a Veteran is a person
who served in the active military, naval, or air service and who was discharged or released under
conditions other than dishonorable. This definition clarifies that any individual that has completed a

tomorrow. Once these courageous men and women are back on US soil they should have somewhere
to turn to for health care (Norcross 2015). Currently there have been some issues regarding the Health
care that our Veterans are receiving. The Veterans Administration has been stuck in debates about

deductions. Section §162(a) specifies that such expenses must be directly connected with or pertain to
the taxpayer s trade or business that is functioning as a business at the time the expenses were
incurred. Furthermore, Walter Hodges largest expenditure was training classes for $25,000 which was
an educational expense incurred to prepare for a new career as a real estate investor and renter rather

The Early Stages Of Drug Prohibition
Many currently illegal drugs, such as marijuana, opium, coca, and psychedelics have been used for
thousands of years for both medical and spiritual purposes.
The Early Stages of Drug Prohibition
Why are some drugs legal and other drugs illegal today? It s not based on any scientific assessment of
the relative risks of these drugs but it has everything to do with who is associated with these drugs.
The first anti opium laws in the 1870s were directed at Chinese immigrants. The first anti cocaine
laws, in the South in the early 1900s, were directed at black men. The first anti marijuana laws, in the
Midwest and the Southwest in the 1910s and 20s, were directed at Mexican migrants and Mexican
Americans. Today, Latino and especially black communities ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

In 1987, Arnold Trebach and Kevin Zeese founded the Drug Policy Foundation describing it as the
loyal opposition to the war on drugs. Prominent conservatives such as William Buckley and Milton
Friedman had long advocated for ending drug prohibition, as had civil libertarians such as longtime
ACLU Executive Director Ira Glasser. In the late 1980s they were joined by Baltimore Mayor Kurt
Schmoke, Federal Judge Robert Sweet, Princeton professor Ethan Nadelmann, and other activists,

Essay on Jesse Cleveland Owens
James Cleveland Owens otherwise known as Jesse was an Olympic long jumper and sprinter whose
speed and inspirational defiance of Hitler shocked the world. The 1936 Olympics were held in Berlin
and Adolf Hitler of the Nazi party believed that these Olympic Games would showcase the great skill
of the Aryan (Caucasian) race, and the last person he would expect to show him up would be an
African American man (Barnes 1). With sixty six U.S. Olympic contestants competing in the Games,
the American race was really put on the spot in front of Hitler, the most powerful man in the world
(Smith 1). Jesse Owens was one of these men, and while being laughed at by Hitler during his one
hundred meter sprint against six other Caucasian sprinters, he ... Show more content on

He argued that the Olympic ideal was to be a time out from war and above politics (Smith 4).
Owens was an underprivileged African American boy that grew up in the south during the early
nineteen hundreds, his chances of making the Olympics were far out of his reach. He was born in
Oakville, Alabama and was the youngest in the family with six brothers and three sisters (Barnes 1).
At the age of nine Owens family moved to Columbus Ohio because of the bad economy and
segregation that was prominent in the south. When Jesse was five he had developed a life threatening
tumor on his chest, but because of his families overwhelming poverty he never received proper
medical care (McCoy 1). However according to McCoy (1), One day Jesse woke up to his mother
Mary standing over him with a sterilized knife and boiling water. She cut the tumor off her baby boy,
causing him to bleed for three days. Fortunately, he survived the amateur surgery. Surprisingly this
surgery performed by his mother was successful and Owens never had issues with the tumor or the
surgery at any time in his life. As a kid Jesse was very shy and it was because of this shyness he
possessed that he is called Jesse Owens today. According to Smith (3), When his new teacher asked

1997 Film Version Of The Odyssey
In the 1997 film version of The Odyssey the director made several changes from the book, including
characterization, settings, the order of events, and some events are removed or shortened. These
changes may have helped the movie move along faster, however the changes were not effective in
accurately portraying The Odyssey and giving the viewer a deep understanding of the characters and
their experiences. The way that Odysseus s crew is killed is changed in the film, the meeting with the
Phaiakians is cut short, as well as the meeting with Menelaos. Due to these events being cut short or
changed, the viewers did not get a good understanding of the characters that appear in these events,
and what their purpose is in helping the heroes of the

Narrative Reflection
Coming into Drexel, an important factor I learned was to have a clear understanding in the art and
mechanics for literature composition. I learned that it would mature my writing to a higher level of
thinking. My past experiences in my writing through high school English teacher feedback indicated
my writing to be full of flaws. I often would receive feedback on my writing being awkwardly worded
or lacking fluidity. The one valuable skill I learned from English courses here at Drexel was the idea
that exposure to different readings, conceptual knowledge in writing and informal writing practices
give practice, in order for me to find my own voice in writing.
For instance, in my English 101 class, where my personal narrative for instance demonstrates an
efficient dynamics, especially in the importance of articulating a message. Furthermore, for my drafts
I received much advice which would be altered or incorporated within the final piece. Concerns such
as the addition of dialogue, grammar and tense issues and overall style would be explicitly answered
throughout the process of revising and editing my draft. General criticism, however I was given about
my narrative was the idea that it needed clarity, by focusing on a specific event. The account of my
summer experience in Pakistan such as how I felt before leaving the country to embracing the lifestyle
of my relatives needed more depth, a central theme. Since my encounter of witnessing poverty first
hand conveyed a powerful

Obliteration As An Elements Of A Film Genre
Genre in a sense is a way of identifying and categorizing creations in media. It is also an important
factor in the film industry to both the producers and audiences. Genre, to a producer sets the
guidelines as to what can and cannot happens during a film, unless, they are trying to convey a
message or going for a hybrid genre. To the film audience, genre is important because it will quickly
enable them to attach to the film. Since they are already familiar to with the setting of the story. Not
only that but genre also help the audience to find films which they may be interesting in, as their
premises are similar. Genre is basically a formula to success to the film creators and a way of drawing
in audiences. However, sometimes under the facet of genre, it could ... Show more content on

Now this film was created almost a decade after the horrified incidents at Hiroshima and Nagasaki.
These two disasters have yet fade from the Japanese s minds and the post war occupation of the
United States imposed a rigid censorship in all media that may cause disruption. Gojira, oftentimes
being passed off as just another monster film, however, it is unquestionably a contemplation on the
atomic bombing disturbances and illustrate the obliterations. The fire, denotations and the absolute
unanticipated mayhem is in fact, representing the American bombing. Andrew O Hehir, a movie critic
stated, It s a gripping war film that depicts shocking carnage and destruction, and a social melodrama
rooted in the anxious and doom haunted quality of postwar Japanese life (O Hehir). Gojira
demonstrated the Japanese people being besieged in their homeland by history s distinguished
superweapon. Surely, this film is a monster film that to a certain extent inaugurated the complete
Kaiju genre (a Japanese word for strange creature, but often translated to monster or giant monster. ),
nonetheless, it is also dark, dismal, and downright

Airsoft Gun Research Paper
Say your airsoft gun isn t getting the range you want. Your bb s shoot about 100 feet then plummet
faster than my Calculus grade. Here s how to effectively increase your range by flat hopping your
airsoft gun. There are 5 steps on how to do this and I will go over each one. The first step is to
disassemble you gun and take out your inner barrel and hop up assembly. For this example we are
going to be using a standard M4 replica, which are the most common airsoft gun on the market. First
push out the upper receiver pin on your gun, it may be tight so you should use a pointed tool to help
you knock it out. The upper receiver pin you re knocking out is located on the left side of the rifle just
below the threads of the receiver. Once it is out you can slide the upper receiver off of the lower
receiver. Once you slide it off you can then take out the inner barrel and hop up assembly. Once it is
out you can place the receivers to the side and proceed to the next step. Step two is to disassemble the
hop up assembly from the inner barrel. To do this ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
First take your hop up assembly and find the pin holding the arm of the hop up in place. The pin
should be sticking out and it should be easy to find as it is near the top of the hop up unit. Once the pin
is out put the pin in a safe spot as it is a very important piece. After the pin is out and in a safe place
lift up or remove the hop up arm. You can use a small tool to lift it up or remove it easier. Once it is up
look at the end of the arm and there should be a small circular rubber nub on the part of the arm that
was inside the hop up. Remove the small rubber nub and replace the circular nub with a flat nub,
hence the name flat hop. You can use a small piece of a pink rubber eraser or a brand name flat nub.
Use a small bit of super glue to hold the nub in place on the arm while you proceed to the next

John Richard Boyd Essay
Born in Erie, Pennsylvania on January 23, 1927, John Richard Boyd had a humble upbringing. In late
1944, Boyd enlisted in the Army Air Corps as a junior in high school where he later became an F 86
pilot having his first combat deployment in the Korean War, 1953. He graduated from the University
of Iowa with a Bachelor s degree in economics and later also completed an industrial engineering
Bachelor s degree from Georgia Tech. Though COL Boyd is credited with minimal combat missions
and zero kills, he revolutionized aerial combat tactics and developed the OODA (observe, orient,
decide, and act) loop which is still used in aerial combat today. After graduating high school and
enlisting in the United States army, John Boyd s first assignment ... Show more content on

COL John Boyd s theory on the Elements of Warfare divided warfare into three different categories:
moral warfare, mental warfare, and physical warfare. Moral Warfare was basically defined as
defeating and reducing the enemy s will to win. The overarching concept behind the moral warfare
portion was the destruction of moral bonds that allow an organization to maintain continuity (defeat
the spirit of the group consciousness). Mental Warfare was the battle waged against the enemy s
perception of reality through channels of disinformation, restricting communication, and destroying
information infrastructure. Essentially, the mental warfare portion was the manipulation of the enemy
s perception reducing force effectiveness. Finally, Physical Warfare was the utilization of physical
resources like weapons, munitions, people, and logistical assets. These three combined factors; moral
warfare, mental warfare, and physical warfare together were Boyd s core subcategories which created
his Elements of Warfare. According to Robert Coram, in his book (The Fighter Pilot who Changed the
Art of War) regarding COL John Boyd s Elements of Warfare, interviewed then Vice President Dick
Cheney who credited COL John Boyd s Elements of Warfare theory ...responsible for America s swift
and decisive victory in the Golf

The Extraction And Absorption Of Casein
Part A Part A of this experiment examines the extraction and absorption of casein within milk. The
foremost objective is to effectively remove the casein rich curds from the milk by altering the pH
using acetic acid. Then, the objective is to dry the curds so that only the proteins and various other
materials remain. Afterwards, this part aims to evaluate the spectrum of copper (II) sulfate
pentahydrate, then use this spectrum in comparison to a solution of Casein sodium potassium tartrate
and NaOH in a copper (II) sulfate solution, also known as the biuret test. This denotes the presence of
protein.1 The ultimate objective of this part is to characterize the protein Casein. Casein is a highly
hydrophobic protein.1 However, it s compact spherical particles are able to be held together through
interactions with calcium in milk. This allows the hydrophobic protein to be suspended within the
polar solution through the presence of calcium ions. When acid is added to a solution the number of
H3O+ increases.1 Because proteins contain regions which are charged, the addition of large amounts
of acid alters the charge of the side chains these changes can dramatically alter the non covalent
interactions of the side chains.1 Essentially, the addition of the acid creates an environment which
alters the charges of the side chains this causes significant changes to the forces within the protein
folds, altering the protein. Because acid is added to the milk, it creates an environment

  • 2. Essay on the Power of Language in The Plague The Power of Language in The Plague In his novel The Plague, Albert Camus presents a pseudo historical documentary of a plague that confines and controls the citizens of Oran within their city gates. The plague possesses the power of life and death over the people, as it determines which citizens will face their death or those who work to stop death. These latter men, personified by the character s of Rieux, Grand, and Tarrau, each struggle endlessly to master the plague s power over their lives, even with the realization they may never succeed. For Camus, this idea of impossible struggle against an unseen power resonates throughout the novel and reoccurs in another plague which these men must contend the limits of human ... Rieux recognizes this power and initially rejects the use of syndrome as it would mean almost immediate implications upon his profession as a doctor. Camus furthers this when Rieux considers the use of the word plague . Rieux hesitates, knowing that this word possesses certain implications that will change the lives of all Oran s citizens through quarantine. Thus for Rieux, It s not the question of the term I use; it s a question of time (P.47). In this description Rieux establishes that the real issue of using the term plague concerns whether the time is right to unleash the word s power to change both their careers and the townspeople s lives. Through Rieux s hesitation in stating these terms, Camus demonstrates how language, like plague, can have the power of life or death over people like Rieux. However, Rieux also realizes that he will never master or control this power, no matter how carefully he chooses his words. Rieux elaborates upon this in his descriptions of the letters and telegrams he writes as ultimately resulting in the living words, into which we had as it were transfused our heart s blood, were drained of any meaning (p.63). Here Camus s beautiful metaphor illustrates Camus conception of language as a living entity that is both ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Age of Exploration Essay 4 The Age of Exploration was a period from the early 1400s and continuing into the early 1600s, during which European ships traveled around the world to search for new trade routes to feed growing capitalism in Europe. The most commonly sought after new trade route was to the Spice Islands, which are now the Indonesian archipelago, in southern Asia. Spices were originally brought to Western Europe by land routes, but because of a lack cargo space and extremely long travel times the prices were very high. The advantages of ships were that they had much larger cargo capacities and were faster than caravans. The obvious solution to get cheaper spices was to carry them by ships. In 1620 a group of 120 puritan pilgrims left England on the ship the Mayflower to escape religious persecution. They landed in Massachusetts Bay of the same year. Henry Hudson, an Englishman who worked for the Dutch East India Company, mapped what is now the New York area. He discovered Manhattan on September 11, 1609, and continued up the Hudson River, until he arrived at the site where New York State s capital city, Albany, now stands. The Dutch established New Amsterdam (now New York City) in 1613. The British took the city in September 1664, and renamed it New York after the English Duke of York and Albany. The Dutch briefly regained it in August 1673, renaming the city New Orange, but ceded it permanently in November 1674. The French attempted to colonize the south eastern coast of what is now Jacksonville, Florida. By the 1570s they had built fort Caroline on the Saint John s River. An expedition intended to destroy the Spanish settlement at Saint Augustine failed when the invasion fleet was destroyed by a hurricane. The Survivors were captured and executed by the Spanish, and Saint Augustine stayed under Spanish control until 1819 when Florida was bought by the United States. Ferdinand Magellan, a former Portuguese officer commanding a Spanish fleet, began the first circumnavigation of the Earth in 1519. Magellan was killed Cebu in the Philippines in 1521. Along with the workers catching a break through the implementation of this new system, travelers will not be destined to worry as much about long check in lines before their flight, and the possibility of a misplaced bag when arriving at their destination. As far as the airlines themselves, the rankings and reporting s for lost luggage and mishandled bags will be at their lowest through the implementation of the RFID tagging system at the ATL airport. Although using radio frequency identification tags in airport baggage handling operations can be costly, the advantages of implementing this system at the ATL airport will save the airport a lot of money in the long run. These tags do cost significantly more than the standard bar code tags in which are in use at this time, but the overall fees and reimbursements that are being paid yearly will be significantly reduced if these tags are indeed implemented. While the bar coding system is inexpensive, the efficiency of the system is its number one downfall. The barcodes often smudge, tear, and most importantly, the tags are set in stone once they are printed. The color of the offices were gray and monotone(Wachowski). The idea of people being ignorant is seen here because they are all acting and working the same exact way. The colors show how dull and unexciting their life is. It shows that instead of living a life of risk they are living a life as people with no personality. When Neo s boss talks to him, he is telling Neo what to do and how to act. Instead of Neo having free choice, he is ordering him to get to work on time and to do work. Neo knows something is wrong in his world. Morpheus tells Neo that There s a splinter in [Neo s] mind [that is] driving [him] mad (Wachowski). Neo knows that there is something wrong about his world. He is staying ignorant because he isn t doing anything to get out of this state. The ignorance is driving [Neo] mad which proves that he is conforming to ignorance. • 18. Sentencing Disparities And Race On Criminal Sentencing Introduction Sentencing disparities as a result of an individual s race or ethnic background, has been one of the most frequently investigated topics in criminological research. (Mitchell, Mackenzie 2004). Several studies have attempted to understand the impact of the offenders race on criminal sentencing but there has been variation in the results some of studies concluded race does effect sentencing regardless of the legal variables; some studies revealed it does not; while other studies concluded that race does impact sentencing when coupled with other factors. (Pratt 1998). Research has revealed that sentencing disparities by race are a result of the type of criminal offense as the variable to the impact on sentencing decisions. The implications of sentencing disparities by race suggests that minority individuals are targeted more frequently in the criminal justice system. Accordingly, there is a clear need to explore all possible variables that may create sentencing disparities for minorities. The current study will fill some of the void of former research by exploring sentencing disparities among a large sample of gang members and non gang members who were sentenced to prison for serious crimes in the state of California. Specifically, the study is interested in examining whether gang members become targeted by law enforcement personnel because of their gang related activities, or because of their race. The focus of this study is necessary because consist racial ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 19. Redemption Essay The literal definition of the word redemption is the act, process, or an instance of redeeming (forgiven). When I as a human being think of redemption I think of it as a way to accept, forgive and move on after an instance of extreme, usually emotional, infliction. When we think of this in terms of prison, humans are put into isolation where they are given ample time to logically think of these trespasses and how they are paying for it with their lives. At the same time these people are doing very manual labor while getting paid very little in order to redeem themselves to hopefully regain some rank again in society. In life where most of us live outside walls redemption comes in many different forms, although not all as painful. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The same reactions come about when I myself am put under circumstances of injustice and I can only hope, but am not certain, that this is something regularly occurs with humans in general. I would have to say that some of the factors that contribute to the ways that I respond to injustice would be feelings that had occurred as a child when put into unjust situations as well as knowledge that I was given while growing up in both educational institutions as well as living in general. While I watched the movie Shawshank Redemption I witness an idea developed mainly by Stephen King that basically gave me hope by helping me see that due to what I call karma, the people that are exaggerating unjust behavior will eventually get what is coming to them. This is displayed well by the showing of all the ignorant behavior put on by the warden and what happened to him in the end. In our society taking away a persons freedom is considered justice because at this point these people do not have a choice. The choices that they have made so far have only gotten them into trouble, now they have given that up and are subjected to be treated basically like a slave. Although condition monitoring has established since 1960 s, it is still being develop in parallel with the advances in transducers and computer technology [1]. The benefit of condition monitoring is to minimize unplanned maintenance of machinery as well as improves the reliability and safety. In recent year, wired online condition monitoring (CM) systems have been applied in many industrial machines. Because the systems relies on different types of cables for field applications, the installation, the maintenance and cost become the major obstacles of their wide applications [2],[3]. For instance, pressure, current and voltage are good examples of parameters which can be monitored to notice the changing in machines characteristics. This monitoring method uses periodic measurements of a monitored parameter and implements the data collected against time. Generally, any machine has a period of time before stop called early life which is the period from the operation till it decays to the normal life period. Typically the amplitude of parameters is high at the starting however it decreases rapidly to normal levels. The second one is the normal life which is the period needed to perform a specific function. A study of microplastics in the Chinese inner sea revealed that after sampling sand from both bathing and non bathing beach sites, bathing sites possessed the greatest amounts of microplastics (Yu, 2016). This is most likely because the sampling location for Torrey Pines is, as previously mentioned right in front of a cliff. Therefore, any oncoming ocean breezes to shore will merely push and accumulate the debris at the bottom of the cliff, making it much more difficult for those macroplastics to undergo degradation. In addition even though Torrey Pines is not an urbanized area due to its geographical make up trash can easily accumulate on the beach from land during storms. Rain carries the accumulated plastic debris from the top of the cliffs down to the beach below. It was interesting to note when analyzing microplastic abundance that only microplastic fibers were found. As the majority of macroplastics found were substances that upon degradation would not be broken down into fibers, but microscopic plastic pieces or nurdles. In several other previous studies where high levels of microplastic pollution were analyzed in mountain lakes, fibers were not the most abundant microplastics found (Free, 2014). Instead, small plastic fragments made up the majority of microplastics that were found. The reason that these hard microplastics were not found was due to the fact that the majority of the macroplastics that would have degraded into these smaller microscopic plastic fragments were absent or removed from the beaches except for Torrey Pines, whose macroplastic abundance was previously discussed. The Dispute Between China And The Philippines Essay The Dispute between China and the Philippines over the South China Sea The territorial and maritime disputes over the South China Sea (SCS) have been ongoing for decades. The disputes have been considered to be one the fiercest contested in Asia. The South China Sea is an enclosed sea surrounded by several different states. China, the Philippines, Vietnam, Brunei, Taiwan, and Malaysia all surrounded the South China Sea. The main cause of tension in this dispute is because China claims to have historical sovereignty over all of the South China Sea. Associations of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) have come up with different discussions and suggestions on how to end the disputes with favorable conditions for all contending states. They use the principles of the United Nation Convention of the Law of the Sea (UNCLOS) and form the Declaration on the Conduct of Parties in the South China Sea (DOC). The states surrounding the South China Sea possess 12 nautical miles territorial sea and 200 nautical miles exclusive economic zones (EEZs). Thus, the South China Sea is not only international waters, instead, it is also overlapping exclusive economic zones. According to UNCLOS, disputes over exclusive economic zones must be resolved through negotiations by the contending states. In Nathaniel Hawthorne s Young Goodman Brown, allegory is abundantly utilized throughout the story in the form of characters such as Goodman Brown, representing the universal man of Salem; Faith, his wife, also representing his religious faith; and Goody Cloyse as a high ranking religious figure that is secretly hiding an ominous side. Through the allegory, Hawthorne expresses the idea that the loss of purity and innocence is inevitable. Young Goodman Brown was cleverly given his name by Hawthorne to refer to the everyday Christian man living in Salem during the Colonial time period. The first name Goodman literally describes a good man of Christian faith while Brown represents a common American last name, hence creating a universal character. Allegory is woven throughout the story, including when Goodman Brown finds his beloved wife, Faith, practicing rituals with a cult that he encounters in the forest. When Goodman Brown initially believes he hears Faith s voice in the forest, he investigates only to find her pink hair ribbons hanging from a branch. At this, Goodman Brown cries, My Faith is gone... There is no good on earth; and sin is but a name. Come, devil; for to thee is this world given (Hawthorne 1038). It s something that people say so frequently that it has become something of a cliché. Like most clichés, though, it turns out that there s some truth to it. In 1865, a German chemist named Friedrich August Kekule von Stradonitz solved a problem that had been puzzling scientists for decades. He published a paper identifying the structure of benzene as a ring of carbon atoms. Years later, when he was giving a talk about how he made his breakthrough discovery, he credited it to a dream he d had. In the dream, he saw an image of a serpent swallowing its own tail, something that is called ouroboros. The symbol dates back to early Indian, Egyptian and Greek mythology. The sight of the symbol revealed the ring like structure of benzene to him. Von Stradonitz is not alone. History is littered with similar examples. The issue for decision is whether Walter Hodges is entitled under section §162 to deduct claims on his 2010 Schedule C, Profit or Loss from Business. Upon examination of Mr. Hodges tax return, the IRS disallowed Mr. Hodges Schedule C expenses because he failed to substantiate his expenses or to prove that they were ordinary and necessary to his business. Section §162(a) states that all the ordinary and necessary expenses paid or incurred during the taxable year in any trade shall be allowed as deductions. Section §162(a) specifies that such expenses must be directly connected with or pertain to the taxpayer s trade or business that is functioning as a business at the time the expenses were incurred. Furthermore, Walter Hodges largest expenditure was training classes for $25,000 which was an educational expense incurred to prepare for a new career as a real estate investor and renter rather than to maintain or improve skills in an ongoing business or career so it was not a deductible under section §162 (sect. 1.162. 5, Income Tax Reg.). Issue 2: Furthermore, it was asserted that Ms. Hodges was not engaged in the business of investing, renting, or offering to rent property until March 2011. I often would receive feedback on my writing being awkwardly worded or lacking fluidity. The one valuable skill I learned from English courses here at Drexel was the idea that exposure to different readings, conceptual knowledge in writing and informal writing practices give practice, in order for me to find my own voice in writing. For instance, in my English 101 class, where my personal narrative for instance demonstrates an efficient dynamics, especially in the importance of articulating a message. Furthermore, for my drafts I received much advice which would be altered or incorporated within the final piece. Concerns such as the addition of dialogue, grammar and tense issues and overall style would be explicitly answered throughout the process of revising and editing my draft. General criticism, however I was given about my narrative was the idea that it needed clarity, by focusing on a specific event. Here s how to effectively increase your range by flat hopping your airsoft gun. There are 5 steps on how to do this and I will go over each one. The first step is to disassemble you gun and take out your inner barrel and hop up assembly. For this example we are going to be using a standard M4 replica, which are the most common airsoft gun on the market. First push out the upper receiver pin on your gun, it may be tight so you should use a pointed tool to help you knock it out. The upper receiver pin you re knocking out is located on the left side of the rifle just below the threads of the receiver. Once it is out you can slide the upper receiver off of the lower receiver. Once you slide it off you can then take out the inner barrel and hop up assembly. Once it is out you can place the receivers to the side and proceed to the next step. Step two is to disassemble the hop up assembly from the inner barrel. To do this ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Mental Warfare was the battle waged against the enemy s perception of reality through channels of disinformation, restricting communication, and destroying information infrastructure. Essentially, the mental warfare portion was the manipulation of the enemy s perception reducing force effectiveness. • 49. The Extraction And Absorption Of Casein Part A Part A of this experiment examines the extraction and absorption of casein within milk. The foremost objective is to effectively remove the casein rich curds from the milk by altering the pH using acetic acid. Then, the objective is to dry the curds so that only the proteins and various other materials remain. Afterwards, this part aims to evaluate the spectrum of copper (II) sulfate pentahydrate, then use this spectrum in comparison to a solution of Casein sodium potassium tartrate and NaOH in a copper (II) sulfate solution, also known as the biuret test. This denotes the presence of protein.1 The ultimate objective of this part is to characterize the protein Casein. Casein is a highly hydrophobic protein.1 However, it s compact spherical particles are able to be held together through interactions with calcium in milk. This allows the hydrophobic protein to be suspended within the polar solution through the presence of calcium ions. When acid is added to a solution the number of H3O+ increases.1 Because proteins contain regions which are charged, the addition of large amounts of acid alters the charge of the side chains these changes can dramatically alter the non covalent interactions of the side chains.1 Essentially, the addition of the acid creates an environment which alters the charges of the side chains this causes significant changes to the forces within the protein folds, altering the protein. Because acid is added to the milk, it creates an environment ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
