Essay Mary Flannery O Connor
Mary Flannery O Connor is one of the most preeminent and more unique short story
authors in American Literature (O Connor 1). While growing up she lived in the Bible
belt South during the post World War II era of the United States. O Connor was part of
a strict Roman Catholic family, but she depicts her characters as Fundamentalist
Protestants. Her characters are also severely spiritually or physically disturbed and
have a tendency to be violent, arrogant or overly stupid. (Garraty 582) She mixes in her
works a full fledged gothic eeriness with an authentic feeling for the powers of grace and
redemption. O Connor s substantial literary reputation is based upon her two novels and
her short stories collected in Everything That Rises Must... Show more content on

She also drew cartoons and made illustrations for college paper and yearbook. O
Connor also edited the college literary magazine (Garraty 582). One of her professors
started off her writing career by submitting some of her works to the Writers
Workshop at the University of Iowa, because of this she was awarded a Rhinehart
Fellowship. O Connor graduated in 1945 with Bachelors Arts in English and social
sciences. She published her first story , The Geranium in the summer issue of Accent.
Several stories and even portions of her first novel, Wise Blood were published
between 1946 and 1952 in Accent, Sewanee Review, Tomorrow, Mademoiselle,
Partisan Review, and New World Writing. (Garraty 582) Then she received a Master of
Arts in Literature in 1947 she lived at the writers colony at Saratoga Springs for a short
time. Then O Connor lived in New York until she got sick in 1950 and moved back
home, to Georgia. (Garraty 582)
When O Connor returned to Georgia, her condition was diagnosed as disseminated
lupus. She was admitted to Emory Hospital in Atlanta and remained there until she was
discharged in the spring of 1951. O Connor and her mother moved to Andalusia.. Even
during the years in Andalusia she regularly received honors and awards for her work.

My Strengths And Weaknesses
In the current generation, there is not much to differentiate between a male and a
female when it comes to the perspective of responsibility. The aspect of strength and
weaknesses is something that cannot be used to state whether an individual is a man
or woman. Every individual has his or her set of weaknesses and a set of things he
considers his or her strength. Men and women the same, we all struggle to maintain
our lives and fight for the future. Life is somehow based on the rule of the jungle
where only the individuals with the ability and capability to do what it takes succeeds.
The moment that an individual s weaknesses overcome his strength and the society
realizes the same that is the moment an individual s world is turned around. His or her
sense of fight is lost, and he becomes a nobody in the society. However, the modern
generation has realized that weaknesses are only weaknesses if you allow them to be.
I am at the age of thirty now, already graduated and very ready to pursue my life
dreams. In fact, I have started that journey. In the journey, however, I the role that my
strengths play in achieving my dreams and the weaknesses that I have that tends to
draw me back in life. In this document, I will be discussing myself stressing so much on
my strengths and highlighting my weaknesses. I know and understand perfectly well
that my destiny is always with me, right into my own hands and it is either I make a
decision and pursue it or rely on my weaknesses and let
Youth Sports Coach Better Understand Children s Learning...
While there are numerous avenues today in which youth coaches can get their training
and instructional ideas for developing winning strategies, it is rare that these teachings
encompass information about the children they will be teaching these strategies to. This
paper will seek to help the youth sports coach better understand children s learning and
performance skills in relation to their given sport. Within the paper there will be several
different topics discussed in order to help the coach see the overall picture of what
motor behavior learning looks like through the eyes of a youth athlete. The topics
incorporated are: 1) growth and development issues and the influence they may have on
children s motor skills; 2) cognitive factors influencing the children s learning and
performing of various motor skills; 3) children s overall control of motor skills; and 4)
children s development of motor expertise. Throughout each section, I will provide
suggestions on how the coach may tackle each of these topics when coming up with their
practice and instructional plans.
Growth and Development It is no secret that children s growth and development is an
ever changing and at times difficult aspect on life. In most cases, changes in both
mass and stature occur for girls from ages 10 12 and in boys from ages 12 14. Most of
the growth during this time for both girls and boys occurs in their legs. For example, at
age five, leg length is about 45% of total height while at age 10 the
Broken Relationship Between The Colonists And The British...
The Road to Independence
Throughout the colonial period, relationships between the colonists and the British
Empire continued to deteriorate. Taxation was mostly seen as being harmful for the
American society but on the other hand beneficial to the crown. Tired of not being
considered in matters that were critical to their daily life, colonists decided to prepare
and submit their declaration of Independence to the British Empire. There were 27
remarks pointed out where the King completely ignored Americans rights and votes. It
was not until July 4th, 1776 when Great Britain finally recognized the United States of
America as an independent nation granting the power to the colonists to govern
themselves.

Essay on Legacy of Luna
BOOK REVIEW Legacy of Luna Julia Butterfly Hill Harper San Francisco April 1,
2000 The author Julia Butterfly Hill book is a personal reference of the adversity she
overcame when faced with saving a part of nature, a part of what defines her, a piece
of something she would never let go of. In this novel the author gives biographical
evidence of not only her love of saving the redwood trees. The story begins in
December of 1996, in the town of Stafford, California. There was a mudslide which
was catastrophic and buried seven homes. The removal of the redwood trees was what
she states to be a cause and effect of this disaster because they absorb the moisture that
causes erosion. She was up against the Maxxam... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

I absolutely am very fond of this book. I chose to read this book because I was
fascinated with learning about trees in the previous project we were assigned. Not
only did I grasp the fresh air of nature, but I began to be with one with nature which
was absent for quite a while. This book not only brought back that feeling of becoming
nature to me, but created a perspective that I may have been closed minded about. If I
could officially rate this book I would give it a five out of five, it brings a natural,
spiritual emotion to all readers. Preservation, and conservation of Mother Nature is
not what only keeps us alive as a society, but it s what keeps us to look back at where
we have come from. I love the way how this is also a true story; it brings that realistic
sense into my eyes. I would love to read more books like this. I would recommend this
book to all those who are fond of nature. More likely those who take passion in the
environment and helping preserve and conserve; I think this would be perfect for an
environmental class. Since trees are a major part of our ecosystem it would make sense
for them to read this book, and creates a personal relationship with nature. This book
could be for all ages, but it s directly focused on teenagers and up, because they tend to

The Matrix Lucinda Coberg Analysis
Lucinda Cobley a local artist in Houston created this piece to celebrate the opening of
the grand opening of the welcome center at the University of Houston Downtown
created a piece called the Matrix located at the O Kane Gallery at UHD. The Matrix is
made up of acrylic paint and ink, plastic drafting film, mirror film, vellum, nylon

piece was created early 2016 during the spring semester. It is a large piece at
approximately 50ft long with reflecting lights passing thru the colored film. This piece
named Matrix is quite a big colorful piece with different shades of blue, the room was
dark which had the lights reflecting on the Matrix . Diverse rhythms happen and lines

Thus, they are derivative and distort the real character of thing and work . The
deficiency of these conventional ideas of thing is made evident when we consider a
show stopper, e.g. a work of art by Van Gogh of what have all the earmarks of being a
typical pair of peasant boots. As indicated by Heidegger, this depiction uncovers (
unconceals in Heidegger s wording) the universe of the worker who strolls in these
boots on the earth. Both these terms world and earth go up against extraordinary
significance for Heidegger. Each genuine gem develops a world which opens a space
for Dasein (Heidegger s oath for individual ), an openness that lays on the steady,
persevering and all protecting earth . Through the show stopper we encounter the
imaginative strife of world and earth. The examination of this strife is the way to

Essay about Analysis of A Clockwork Orange
Analysis and Interpretation of A Clockwork Orange
A Clockwork Orange, by Anthony Burgess, is one of the most experimental, original,
and controversial novels of the twentieth century. It is both a compelling work of
literature and an in depth study in linguistics. The novel is a satirical, frightening science
fiction piece, not unlike others of this century such as George Orwell s Nineteen Eighty
Four or Aldous Huxley s Brave New World. However, the conflicts and resolutions in A
Clockwork Orange are more philosophical than social, and its message is far more urgent.
A Clockwork Orange is made up of three parts containing 21 chapters, 21 being the
official age of human maturity. It is a stream of consciousness novel... Show more

In Nadsat, orange means man (which is derived from the Malay word orang, meaning
man ), so a clockwork orange would be a man moving without pause or thought, as a
clockwork (Lund). Burgess says of the title, I mean it to stand for the application of a
mechanistic morality to a living organism oozing with juice and sweetness ( Resucked
x). After the state reforms him, the novel s hero and narrator Alex becomes a clockwork
orange, a man working as a machine.
Nadsat is the primary language, although not the exclusive one, of A Clockwork
Orange. Burgess claims he uses it to muffle the raw response we expect from
pornography. But he also uses it to create a literary adventure ( Resucked x). The use of
Nadsat emphasizes many of the struggles involved with A Clockwork Orange s purpose.
The struggle between the old and the young the conservative and the progressive is made
more sensational by the separation of language. Alex is misunderstood by his parents, the
police, and the government philosophically, but also literally, widening the gap between
him and the sane world.
Burgess also manipulates language in A Clockwork Orange in more traditional ways, in
the form of literary and linguistic devices. The novel is saturated with irony and dark
humor, dotted with repetition, and laced with word play.
Irony is used extensively A Clockwork Orange. One of the most repeated and significant
examples of irony is in Alex s description
Huckleberry Finn Racist
The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn was viewed as a racist novel, however, it was
not. Mark Twain was criticized for the book, although it was a learning experience for
the meaning behind it. The novel was created to raise attention for slavery and racism, it
was also a great novel. Since it was first published, The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn
had attracted much controversy due to the use of racial slurs in his writing which caused
accusations that the author himself was racist, unfortunately due to multiple issues, the
novel was banned for a period of time. Samuel Clemens had made the story become more
interesting with the help of the characters which he had created, Jim and Finn. Jim

As a young boy, it s easy to get attached to someone or something. However, in Huck s
case it was called loyalty. The reward must ve crossed his mind and made him think
twice about hiding a slave, but instead he thought that Jim was more important. Jim
really captured Huck s emotion in a way where it would ve been hard for Jim to be the
narrator and carry the same effect. It was weird to Jim that Huck was willing to help
him because Huck had a good life. He was brought up, educated, fed, and dressed.
These were what most kids back then didn t get. Jim was also Miss Watson s slave so
he worked for and around Huck. Furthermore, we can see that Huck wanted to turn in
Jim on multiple occasions. He was educated that every black person was at a lower
level than him and that their purpose was to make the white peoples lives easier. Pap
also helped make the story much more interesting, he helped Huck decide to run away
and bump into Jim. It was a coincidence that they met together, but we can easily see
that Samuel Clemens has an eye for detail and made sure that everything in the book had
a purpose for
The Role Of Sexism Exposed In The Twilight Saga Movies
Legends and tall tales of vampires have been around for generations. They were once
beings society feared; pale, soulless, vicious beasts with blood stained mouths and long
black capes. In recent years, this depiction has changed. Vampires are now portrayed as
beautiful, alluring creatures, who are more civilized then how passed tales have
depicted. In the The Twilight Saga movies, based on the Stephenie Meyer s
controversial book series, vampires are reinvented with more human attributes and
feelings. Not only do they have human like feelings but they display social issues that
human s face in society as well. A human social issue that has made its way into fantasy
vampiretales is sexism. The Twilight Saga utilizes the horror genre... Show more content

Bella is caught between two men in the film, Edward and Jacob. Although she is
unquestionably in love with Edward, he abandons her so she is left in Forks with
Jacob. Jacob is a muscular, tan, teenage boy a few years younger than Bella but has the
build of a man twice his own age. With Edward gone, Bella does not try to go on life
alone or be independent; she runs to Jacob. A source on Intangible Divulgences
describes this point of the saga and states The love triangle is established, with Bella
now caught between two men, given a choice, as Meyer sees it, but a choice to attach
herself to a male no matter what it takes. (Divulgence 1). Bella is never given or never
considers the choice of being her own person or by herself; it s either Edward or
Jacob, being with herself is not option. Bella is portrayed as so codependent because
she is physically fragile and clumsy. Christine Jarvis, author of The Twilight Of
Feminism? Stephenie Meyer s Saga And The Contradictions Of Contemporary
Girlhood. talks about how Bella is create this way purposely so she can be a relatable
character for women because she is powerless. (Jarvis 102). The Twilight Saga display
a sort of power imbalance with Edward having more power than Bella does. Edward is
basically indestructible and calm while Bella is frantic and can barely fend for
herself. She also has no strength, physically or emotionally while Edward and Jacob
are depicted as the epitome of strength and self control. In one part of New Moon,
Bella agrees to rebuild dirt bikes with Jacob but does no manual labor whatsoever and
even gets hurt clumsily falling in the tool shed. Bella embodies all the negative
stereotypes society has created against women, yet she is still looked up to by viewers
because she is with an attractive man with incredible

The National Football League Is The Most Popular Sport
The National Football League is the most popular sport in America. The NFL is the
most lucrative sports business in the world by generating 9 billion dollars a year. For
whatever reason peoples eyes are glued to the television every Sunday, whether it be to
root on their hometown team or to follow their fantasy football team. The league has
been under fire for the safety of the players for a very long time, but more so in the last
couple of years. The biggest part of the scrutiny is that repeated head trauma can cause
long term brain damage. The rules must change in the game of football because it has
become too dangerous and creates a long term threat to players. Equipment has improved

A helmet hit from Morris Badgro in the 1930 would lay down players with 970 pounds

The National Football League is constantly working on making the game safer. There
needs to be a waiver in the contract of the players that prevents them suing the league
for any post career health issues. If the players were not part of the National Football
League Players Association, a labor union for the players, the waiver would already
be in place. The players union says that it would be against the collective bargaining
agreement for the NFL to come up with such waiver (cite.) The waiver probably stems
from the lawsuits against the NFL by former players. The number of suits continues to
grow with the largest one being nearly 800 million dollars. The former players accused
the league of hiding the long term effects of concussions and rushing players back onto
the field, while profiting from the games violence. There have been multiple players
who have been on the NFL s side and said that they would be willing to sign a waiver
saying that they would not sue the league if any post football health issues occurred.
There have been much needed changes on the field to change the safety of the game.
The changes have drawn a lot of criticism. A friend of mine refers to it as the No Fun
League instead of the National Football league, but this is what has to happen
Importance of Seasons in Kawabata s Snow Country Essays
Importance of Seasons in Kawabata s Snow Country
In his novel Snow Country, Yasunari Kawabata depicts a relationship between two
people in the mountainous region of Japan. Shimamura, a businessman from Tokyo,
visits a village in the snow country and develops a relationship with Komako, a geisha in
that village. Their relationship is the central focus of the novel, as it changes each time
Shimamura leaves for Tokyoand returns. Kawabata uses the changing of the seasons to
reflect these changes in relationship. Since the novel is set in the snow country, the
seasons have specific characteristics, and these parallel the relationship between the two
central characters. Spring is a time of new beginnings in the snow country ... Show more

In the snow country, spring is a time when people can re enter the world as the snow
that has engulfed their houses for the cold winter months begins to melt away. It is a
time when rains bring tiny sprouts of plants that have been forgotten because the
snow has covered them for so long. These new beginnings and rebirths in nature are
reflected in the relationship between Shimamura and Komako. Shimamura sees
Komako in the same way as the new sprouts budding up from the ground, as an
unspoiled creature that has just surfaced. He considers Komako an amateur and refers
to her as clean . Thus, he feels he needs to look out for the new seed to make sure she
grows safely. His protecting nature and her dependence on him form the foundation of
the friendship that develops as the initial relationship between the two. Shimamura,
however, had labeled her an amateur and, after a week in the mountains during which
he had spoken to almost no one, he found himself longing for a companion. It was
therefore friendship more than anything else that he felt for the woman. His response
to the mountains had extended itself to cover her. (23) Shimamura views Komako as
a new seed, yet as spring progresses, seeds begin to grow with the help of spring rain.
These seeds will grow and by fall or winter, become a new tree or flower. In Shimamura
and Komako s relationship, the dependency that Komako had on Shimamura fades as

Casino Gambling Controversy
INTRODUCTION
Local legal casino gambling has gained popularity in the United States after a long
history of prohibition in many parts of the country. Casino gambling was outlawed in
the early 1900 s before being legalized in Nevada and the city of Las Vegas in 1931. In
1978, gambling was legalized in Atlantic City, New Jersey (casinohistory.org). Las Vegas
continues to dominate as the number one casino destination. Atlantic City and New
Jersey have taken a hit as completion in surrounding states increases every year.
Pennsylvania surpassed New Jersey as the number two casino destination in the United
States in 2015 (Tisdall 2). Today, 43 states have casinos (americancasinosguide.com).
Since the birth of the Internet, gambling online has grown into a new industry. Online
gambling is continuing to grow to this day and is an industry already worth billions.
Many of the issues in today s society and legislatures have moved away from the issue
of if casinos should be legal towards the issue of should sports gambling be legal on
websites such as draftkings.com and fanduel.com.
Legalized casino gambling is still a very important topic that continues to cause
controversy throughout the states. According to statista.com, the United States casino
market had revenues of approximately 65 billion dollars in 2015. This revenue stemmed
from the 1,511 casinos open throughout the United States (statista.com). The sheer
amount of revenue the casino industry produces each year makes it a
Alzheimer s Disease And Its Effects On The Lives Of...
Introduction
Neurodegenerative diseases continue to affect the lives of millions Americans each year,
with incidence and prevalence rates ever increasing. These diseases cause degeneration
or death of nerve cells in the brain. These diseases can cause a financial and emotional
burden on not only patients themselves, but also family members and care givers as well.
Molecular mechanisms that underlie these diseases have remained relatively unclear,
despite much research. Understanding the mechanisms of these diseases are facilitated
by utilizing model organisms to study pathways involved in neurodegenerative diseases.
One such model organism is the Caenorhabditis elegans nematode. The C. elegans
roundworm has displayed usefulness as a template to study neurodegenerative diseases in
humans, including Parkinson s disease and Alzheimer s disease.
C. elegans has shown to be a useful model for the study of Alzheimer s disease. Sydney
Brenner first introduced the nematode as a model organism in 1963 (Brenner, 1974).
The small, transparent roundworm is easy for manipulation, with a life cycle of 3
days from egg to adult at 25 degrees Celsius (Brenner, 1974). It is hermaphroditic and
self fertilizing allowing for rapid production of offspring. Its lifespan is between 2 to 3
weeks, which is another beneficial feature for scientific research due to its relatively
short timeframe. The C. elegans genome was completed in 1998 and showed that about
38% of worm genes have human

Laertes A Foil Character In William Shakespeare s Hamlet
As we all know Laertes is a foil character to Hamlet, but what is a foil character? A foil
character is someone who contrasts with another character and you will find out how.
Although some minor similarities, the differences between Hamlet and Laertes are
noteworthy and they deserve accurate analysis. Hamletcould best be described as a
thinker. Hamlet speaks seven soliloquies, which allows us to truly see Hamlet s
characterization. He has an inability to act and that s one of his tragic flaws. Hamlet s
first soliloquy is best described as troubled (Act 1, Scene 2). He contemplates suicide
and hates his life after his father died and his mom remarried Hamlet s uncle,
Claudius. When Hamlet hears of his father s death he does not lead an army or even a
mob. He is careful not to act rashly. At times Hamlet is indecisive and hesitant, but at
other times he is prone to rash and impulsive acts of violence (Mabillard). Hamlet,
unlike Laertes, is very emotional over his father s death. Hamlet had many opportunities
to kill Claudius, but instead let his feelings get the best of him. A big part of Hamlet is
his lovefor Ophelia, which is one of the minor similarities of Hamlet and Laertes. I
think he truly does love her and the actual recognition of his love for Ophelia is shown
when Hamlet realizes that she is dead. Hamlet says I loved Ophelia; forty thousand
brothers could not, with all their quantity of love, Make up my sum (Act 5, Scene 1).
Hamlet s father has only recently died

given to man, by God, was to not eat from one particular tree or he would die. In an act
of rebellion against God, Satan approached Eve and persuaded her to eat from the tree
that God forbade them from eating. This persuasion included lying to Eve about dying
and that they would be like God (Genesis 3:4 5, NIV). On top of the lies, the woman
saw that the fruit of the tree was good for food and pleasing to the eye (Genesis 3:6,
NIV). Satan placed Eve in a situation where she gave in to her desires, lust for the fruit,
envy and greed to be like God, these are the lust of the flesh, the lust of the eyes, and the
pride of life. Just because Satan tempted Eve does not mean that she sinned, temptation is
not to be equated with sin(Towns, The Essential Element of Sin, 2002). Eve acted on her
desires and ate the forbidden fruit. She in turn, led Adam to eat from the tree. This act of
defiance, by Adam and Eve, against God resulting from the temptation and deception, by
Satan, led to the original sinand to the fall of man. The fall of man resulted in the

Utilization of Satellite Information to Screen Carbon...
Article 1 Overview: This study investigated the utilization of satellite information to
screen carbon monoxide (CO) and particulate matter (PM) in Northern Thailand
throughout the dry season when woodland flames are known to be a vital reason for air
contamination. Satellite information, incorporating Measurement of Pollution in the
Troposphere (MOPITT) CO, Moderate Resolution Imaging Spectroradiometer vaporized
optical profundity (MODIS AOD), and MODIS fire hotspots, were examined with air
contamination information measured at nine programmed air quality overseeing stations
in the study range for February April months of 2008 2010. The association examination
indicated that every day CO and PM with size beneath 10 Ојm (Pm10) were connected
with the woodland fire hotspot include, particularly the country regions with the most
extreme relationship coefficient (R) of 0.59 for CO and 0.65 for Pm10. The
correspondences between MODIS AOD and Pm10, between MOPITT CO and CO, and
between MODIS AOD and MOPITT CO were additionally dissected, affirming the
companionship between these variables. Two backwoods fire scenes were chosen, and
the scattering of contamination tufts was mulled over utilizing the MOPITT CO
downright segment and MODIS AOD information, together with the surface wind
vectors. The outcomes demonstrated consistency between the crest scatterings, areas of
thick hotspots, ground checking information, and common winds. The satellite
information were indicated to be

Indeed, employee empowerment is a well known tool for retaining employees, boosting
operation productivity and recovering customer services. Improper use of empowerment
can also impact negatively on such things as employees poor decision making 3
and management s fear of giving up control. However, employee empowerment has
more positive impacts on the front desk operations and this paper will suggest how to
overcome those negative aspects by showing the best practices used in hotel operations.
Constraints One of the main constraints in this study is the limited access to certain
research materials that might be relevant to certain aspects of the importance of
empowering employees at front desk operations. All of the research will be based on
interviews with hotel professionals in successful resorts located in Las Vegas and the use
of published literature. Glossary Empowerment Empowerment is an idea which includes
many disciplines and areas of study such as economics, community development,
education, psychology, and studies of social movements and organizations, among
others. According to the definition of The World Bank, empowerment is providing
individuals or groups with enough knowledge to allow them to make educated choices
so that the result of those choices leads to responsible decision making. Hopefully these
decisions will not
Alaska s Coal Clean Coal
Alaska is widely known for its vast untouched wilderness, abundant wildlife, and its
coal. Sam Weis explains in The Local and Worldwide Impacts of Mining Alaska s Coal,
that Alaska is home to an estimated 5.5 trillion tons of coal, which is approximately one
eighth of all the coal on Earth (25). The energy that comes from burning coalis in great
need not only in the United States, but also all over the world. According to Gail
West, in his article titled Alaska s Coal Clean Burning and Abundant, Japan, South
Korea, and Chile are three primary markets for Alaska s coal exports (113). This dire
need for coal has led many people wanting to turn towards Alaska as a primary source of
coal. There is just one problem; the coal and the... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

Mining enough coal to supply the world, would really take a toll on Alaska s climate
because of its vast environmental impact. In the article, There Is No Such Thing as
Clean Coal the National Resource Defense Council (NRDC) states that the main
sources of pollution due to the production of coal is methane emissions and particular
matter emissions (2). Not only is the burning of coal harmful to the environment, the
coal transportation after it is mined also poses a huge threat. The NRDC clarifies that
diesel burning trucks, trains, and barges that transport coal spew dangerous chemicals
into the earth s atmosphere (2). Not only is it harmful to the atmosphere, but also to the
land and water if it happens to be spilled. The EPA states, truck records indicate that
truck accidents near streams are likely over the long period of mining operations (19).
The addition of these toxic emissions to the earth will greatly influence the issue of
global warming on our planet and could potentially become irreparable which would
make life much harder for future generations.
Coal mining Alaska will also negatively affect its abundant wildlife. The mining of the
coal will ultimately force the wildlife out of the area, which will cause major problems.
Since so much land and

  • 2. Essay Mary Flannery O Connor Mary Flannery O Connor is one of the most preeminent and more unique short story authors in American Literature (O Connor 1). While growing up she lived in the Bible belt South during the post World War II era of the United States. O Connor was part of a strict Roman Catholic family, but she depicts her characters as Fundamentalist Protestants. Her characters are also severely spiritually or physically disturbed and have a tendency to be violent, arrogant or overly stupid. (Garraty 582) She mixes in her works a full fledged gothic eeriness with an authentic feeling for the powers of grace and redemption. The aspect of strength and weaknesses is something that cannot be used to state whether an individual is a man or woman. Every individual has his or her set of weaknesses and a set of things he considers his or her strength. Men and women the same, we all struggle to maintain our lives and fight for the future. Life is somehow based on the rule of the jungle where only the individuals with the ability and capability to do what it takes succeeds. His or her sense of fight is lost, and he becomes a nobody in the society. However, the modern generation has realized that weaknesses are only weaknesses if you allow them to be. This paper will seek to help the youth sports coach better understand children s learning and performance skills in relation to their given sport. Within the paper there will be several different topics discussed in order to help the coach see the overall picture of what motor behavior learning looks like through the eyes of a youth athlete. The topics incorporated are: 1) growth and development issues and the influence they may have on children s motor skills; 2) cognitive factors influencing the children s learning and performing of various motor skills; 3) children s overall control of motor skills; and 4) children s development of motor expertise. Throughout each section, I will provide suggestions on how the coach may tackle each of these topics when coming up with their practice and instructional plans. Growth and Development It is no secret that children s growth and development is an ever changing and at times difficult aspect on life. In most cases, changes in both mass and stature occur for girls from ages 10 12 and in boys from ages 12 14. Most of the growth during this time for both girls and boys occurs in their legs. For example, at age five, leg length is about 45% of total height while at age 10 the

The Road to Independence Throughout the colonial period, relationships between the colonists and the British Empire continued to deteriorate. Taxation was mostly seen as being harmful for the American society but on the other hand beneficial to the crown. There were 27 remarks pointed out where the King completely ignored Americans rights and votes. Essay on Legacy of Luna BOOK REVIEW Legacy of Luna Julia Butterfly Hill Harper San Francisco April 1, 2000 The author Julia Butterfly Hill book is a personal reference of the adversity she overcame when faced with saving a part of nature, a part of what defines her, a piece of something she would never let go of. In this novel the author gives biographical evidence of not only her love of saving the redwood trees. The story begins in December of 1996, in the town of Stafford, California. There was a mudslide which was catastrophic and buried seven homes. The removal of the redwood trees was what she states to be a cause and effect of this disaster because they absorb the moisture that causes erosion. She was up against the Maxxam... Not only did I grasp the fresh air of nature, but I began to be with one with nature which was absent for quite a while. This book not only brought back that feeling of becoming nature to me, but created a perspective that I may have been closed minded about. If I could officially rate this book I would give it a five out of five, it brings a natural, spiritual emotion to all readers. Preservation, and conservation of Mother Nature is not what only keeps us alive as a society, but it s what keeps us to look back at where we have come from. I love the way how this is also a true story; it brings that realistic sense into my eyes. I would love to read more books like this. I would recommend this book to all those who are fond of nature. More likely those who take passion in the environment and helping preserve and conserve; I think this would be perfect for an environmental class. Since trees are a major part of our ecosystem it would make sense for them to read this book, and creates a personal relationship with nature. • 8. Essay about Analysis of A Clockwork Orange Analysis and Interpretation of A Clockwork Orange A Clockwork Orange, by Anthony Burgess, is one of the most experimental, original, and controversial novels of the twentieth century. It is both a compelling work of literature and an in depth study in linguistics. The novel is a satirical, frightening science fiction piece, not unlike others of this century such as George Orwell s Nineteen Eighty Four or Aldous Huxley s Brave New World. However, the conflicts and resolutions in A Clockwork Orange are more philosophical than social, and its message is far more urgent. After the state reforms him, the novel s hero and narrator Alex becomes a clockwork orange, a man working as a machine. Nadsat is the primary language, although not the exclusive one, of A Clockwork Orange. Burgess claims he uses it to muffle the raw response we expect from pornography. But he also uses it to create a literary adventure ( Resucked x). The use of Nadsat emphasizes many of the struggles involved with A Clockwork Orange s purpose. The struggle between the old and the young the conservative and the progressive is made more sensational by the separation of language. Alex is misunderstood by his parents, the police, and the government philosophically, but also literally, widening the gap between him and the sane world. Burgess also manipulates language in A Clockwork Orange in more traditional ways, in the form of literary and linguistic devices. The novel is saturated with irony and dark humor, dotted with repetition, and laced with word play. Irony is used extensively A Clockwork Orange. These diseases cause degeneration or death of nerve cells in the brain. These diseases can cause a financial and emotional burden on not only patients themselves, but also family members and care givers as well. Molecular mechanisms that underlie these diseases have remained relatively unclear, despite much research. Understanding the mechanisms of these diseases are facilitated by utilizing model organisms to study pathways involved in neurodegenerative diseases. One such model organism is the Caenorhabditis elegans nematode. The C. elegans roundworm has displayed usefulness as a template to study neurodegenerative diseases in humans, including Parkinson s disease and Alzheimer s disease. C. elegans has shown to be a useful model for the study of Alzheimer s disease. Sydney Brenner first introduced the nematode as a model organism in 1963 (Brenner, 1974). The small, transparent roundworm is easy for manipulation, with a life cycle of 3 days from egg to adult at 25 degrees Celsius (Brenner, 1974). Its lifespan is between 2 to 3 weeks, which is another beneficial feature for scientific research due to its relatively short timeframe. A foil character is someone who contrasts with another character and you will find out how. Although some minor similarities, the differences between Hamlet and Laertes are noteworthy and they deserve accurate analysis. Hamletcould best be described as a thinker. Hamlet speaks seven soliloquies, which allows us to truly see Hamlet s characterization. He has an inability to act and that s one of his tragic flaws. Hamlet s first soliloquy is best described as troubled (Act 1, Scene 2). He contemplates suicide and hates his life after his father died and his mom remarried Hamlet s uncle, Claudius. When Hamlet hears of his father s death he does not lead an army or even a mob. He is careful not to act rashly. At times Hamlet is indecisive and hesitant, but at other times he is prone to rash and impulsive acts of violence (Mabillard). Hamlet, unlike Laertes, is very emotional over his father s death. Hamlet had many opportunities to kill Claudius, but instead let his feelings get the best of him. A big part of Hamlet is his lovefor Ophelia, which is one of the minor similarities of Hamlet and Laertes. I think he truly does love her and the actual recognition of his love for Ophelia is shown when Hamlet realizes that she is dead. • 21. Temptation Is An Unavoidable Part Of Life Temptation is an unavoidable part of life that has been around since the creation of the world and man. After the creation of man, God placed him in the Garden of Eden, and gave him dominion over the Garden and everything in it. The only command given to man, by God, was to not eat from one particular tree or he would die. In an act of rebellion against God, Satan approached Eve and persuaded her to eat from the tree that God forbade them from eating. This persuasion included lying to Eve about dying and that they would be like God (Genesis 3:4 5, NIV). On top of the lies, the woman saw that the fruit of the tree was good for food and pleasing to the eye (Genesis 3:6, NIV). Satan placed Eve in a situation where she gave in to her desires, lust for the fruit, envy and greed to be like God, these are the lust of the flesh, the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life. Just because Satan tempted Eve does not mean that she sinned, temptation is not to be equated with sin(Towns, The Essential Element of Sin, 2002). Eve acted on her desires and ate the forbidden fruit. She in turn, led Adam to eat from the tree. This act of defiance, by Adam and Eve, against God resulting from the temptation and deception, by Satan, led to the original sinand to the fall of man. The fall of man resulted in the spiritual separation of man from God. Temptation led to sin that then led to the fall of man and resulted in a separation from God that comes to an end with spiritual and physical
