c.How you're going to prove the thesis
Body Paragraph Topic Sentence– Shakespeare's take on masculinity. In As You Like It, it seems that
Shakespeare believes that it is a man's natural instinct to romanticize women. While Celia is
reading Orlando's poem to Rosalind, all of the women mentioned had something disastrous happen
to them. (Act 3 Scene 2 Lines 143 through 156) Tie to the topic sentence. Another thing a man
needs to be is tough. When Rosalind, as Ganymede, is talking to Oliver, Orlando's brother, she
faints at the sight on Orlando's blood on the handkerchief. In response, Oliver tells "him" that he
needs to act more like a man. (Act 4 Scene 3 Lines 12)...show more content...
Shakespeare believes that women are more prone to crying and that they are the weaker gender.
When Rosalind is talking to Aliena, she says "I could find in my heart to disgrace my man's
apparel and to cry like a woman, but I must comfort the weaker vessel, as doublet and hose ought to
show itself courageous to petticoat". (2.4.4–8) In the past, it was believed that because of the fact
that women give birth, they are the fairer sex. Most people believed that women could not protect
themselves, and that they needed courageous men to protect them. Shakespeare also portrays
women in a stereotypical manner, in the sense that it was believed that women normally rave over
males, making them seem foolish. In Scene 3 Act 2, Rosalind is giddy over Orlando, perpetuating
the stereotype that woman go crazy over guys. (3.2.198–208) Tie to the topic sentence. Another
stereotype that Shakespeare brings up is the stereotype that women don't think before they speak,
and that they talk all the time. Rosalind says in Act 3 Scene 2 "Do you not know I am a woman?
When I think, I must speak". This was a common view, resulting in woman always being told that
they were nagging.

Evaluation Essay
Choose a topic that you would like to write about. Since you will need to make a value judgment
based on a set of criterion, you should know your subject well.
Formulate your thesis. The thesis of an evaluation essay is its overall purpose and should be stated
clearly, giving you the direction that will allow you to distinguish between criteria and select,
appropriate examples. It should state value, or the lack of it, in regard to what you are writing about.
Think of the criteria that you are going to use to make your judgment. It is difficult or even
impossible to evaluate your subject immediately – choose several points of interest to make this
process easier.

A Thesis On Modernism

Modern Thesis Paper
During the nineteenth and twentieth centuries, changes in the dynamics of society caused
intellectuals to question the traditions of everyday life. From religious views to the arts of
literature, traditional values and forms were rejected, thus defining a line between the two time
periods, which can be considered as the start of the Modern era. Also known as Modernism, the
modern era used literature as an outlet for expressing the thoughts and feelings of the time. Modern
texts use city life, industrialization and globalization, and ironic and satirical themes to showcase
their bleak outlook on life post both world wars. The nature of these events are aspects of society

The mistrust of the world which is at the center of modernism can be attributed to the world wars
and the psychological effect that it had on the individual. The horrors and violence altered public
perceptions of life, a change that is evident within writers of the time period. The focus of writing
shifted from the outward world to inner thoughts and feelings and overall representation of an
individual's stream of consciousness which are themes associated with modern text. In "Impact of
Modernism", focuses on the idea that world needed new outlets for expression and in finding them
rejected the tradition that was already there with the quote, "Many modernists believed that by
rejecting tradition they could discover radically new ways of making art." (Impact) .The world no
longer had the beauty it once did so a a discovery of new arts were needed. The mind of an
individual became that new found inspiration and beauty that modern writers needed and for that
reason it was one of the main focuses of modern

The Power of Language Essay examples
The Power of Language Language plays an important role in communication by bringing people
together and enriching their relationships. Language can also alienate those who do not speak it
properly, or at all, from those who do. The essays, Mother Tongue, by Amy Tan, best known for
her book, The Joy Luck Club, and Se Habla Espanol, by Tanya Barrientos, delve into the many
powers that language holds. These essays reflect how by not speaking a language in proper form
and by not speaking a language at all, affects the lives of the subjects of the stories. People who can
speak a certain language, but only in 'broken' form, are generally looked down upon by native
language speakers. In her writing, Mother Tongue, Amy Tan writes about her

However, many Hispanic families were and in some cases, still are viewed as lower–class citizens.
According to Barrientos, "To me, speaking Spanish translated into being poor. It meant waiting
tables and cleaning hotel rooms. It meant being left off the cheerleading squad and receiving a
condescending smile from the guidance counselor when you said you planned on becoming a
lawyer or a doctor" (561). They are not respected in a lot of communities, they live dirty, and they
have bad jobs. These stereotypes are reasons why Barrientos did not want to be called Mexican
and never wanted to learn Spanish. If diversity had been celebrated when Barrientos was a child,
as it is celebrated and honored now, she would have grown up speaking Spanish and being proud of
her heritage. Children are very impressionable and tend to take on others' opinions as their own, but
as they grow older, they develop a greater understanding and perspective of the way things are and
the way they should be. As adults, both Tan and Barrientos learned to accept and embrace the
languages that previously embarrassed them. Barrientos immersed herself in her Mexican heritage
and enrolled in many Spanish classes. With each enrollment, she faced yet another stereotype that
came with being of Mexican ethnicity; her instructors thought she should already know Spanish
since she was Latina. Barrientos is now determined to learn her native language. Tan has learned to

Grit Essay Examples
Grit is a predictor of academic, professional, and personal success. Grit can be defined as strength
of character or the ability to overcome failure and continue to work toward success. People with
grit are not always the people with the most natural ability, but their work ethic and ability to
overcome obstacles allows them to achieve success. Grit is a very valuable characteristic in almost
any venture, as it gives someone an advantage in overcoming the inevitable obstacles they will face.
However, grit is much easier adopted when an individual has a growth mindset. The first step to
obtaining grit is to correlate both self–control and self–confidence when trying to reach an objective.
By doing this, one can focus on the task at hand...show more content...
I had no experience as a runner nor did I have the form. This did not phase me however. That year
I promised myself to push through all the six mile runs, sore legs, gnarly blisters, and at times,
lack of oxygen. At every meet and speed workout practice I pushed myself further and further. I
set a goal every time I kicked off from the starting line and never let myself get discouraged when
I failed. By my senior year, I was the fourth fastest runner on varsity. That year our varsity team
won the district meet, which qualified us to run in the 2016 state meet in Oregon. The
transformation over the years were evident. My determination to accomplish my goal of
becoming a faster runner was complete. If I had simply just given up that first day of practice, I
wouldn't have ran along side of the fastest runners in Oregon or have met the multitude of people
that are now my closest friends. Having a goal sets one up for a challenge, whether it being
physically or mentally, goals keep us active and thinking in more ways than one. Still, if someone
has self–control, confidence, and a goal, they are still not complete. Growth mindset is the cone to
an ice cream. It is the foundation of what I think a successful person is. Without it one couldn't use
the characteristics mentioned above in more ways than one. Someone with a growth mindset believe
that their most basic abilities can be developed through dedication and hard work, brains and talent
are just the starting point.

According to Barrientos, "To me, speaking Spanish translated into being poor. It meant waiting tables and cleaning hotel rooms. It meant being left off the cheerleading squad and receiving a condescending smile from the guidance counselor when you said you planned on becoming a lawyer or a doctor" (561). They are not respected in a lot of communities, they live dirty, and they have bad jobs. These stereotypes are reasons why Barrientos did not want to be called Mexican and never wanted to learn Spanish. If diversity had been celebrated when Barrientos was a child, as it is celebrated and honored now, she would have grown up speaking Spanish and being proud of her heritage. Children are very impressionable and tend to take on others' opinions as their own, but as they grow older, they develop a greater understanding and perspective of the way things are and the way they should be.
