Optimism In Dark Inside
The Importance of Optimism as a Character Trait What is a character trait that everyone
needs in order to overcome obstacles? In the novel Dark Inside by Jeyn Roberts, five
characters named Mason, Aries, Chickadee, Evans, and Michael try to survive in an
apocalyptic world with optimism. An earthquake strikes each characters neighbourhood
and many citizens die as a result. Although these five characters do not know each other
and are situated in different locations in the beginning, they eventually encounter one
another. Their main goal is to survive this obnoxious disaster. Each character goes
through a different adventure optimistically, and perseveres despite the myriad of
problems they face. Therefore, the novelDark Inside shows that... Show more content on

There are multiple protagonists in the story, and they all go through different
adventures. A character named Chickadee, who Mason encounters, develops from
being very dependant into a more independent and optimistic character. She has
diabetes, so she cannot live without insulin. Since the earthquake was so destructive,
there are no doctors left to treat her. Chickadee becomes pessimistic when she realizes
she will inevitably die if she does not get treated. However, before Chickadee dies, she
explains, There are different types of people in this world. There are people who
accept what s in front of them unquestioningly... Then there are people like me.
Optimists. They too live in the dark, in times like these, but dream of the light (219).
Chickadee admits she is an optimist, and advises Mason to be optimistic as well. He
also starts looking at the positive side of situations. Even when Chickadee dies,
instead of mourning her death, Mason decides to fulfil her final wish: to go to
Vancouver and feel the ocean for her. Furthermore, another main character, Michael,
begins as ignorant and passive, but becomes more optimistic. When Evans tells
Michael that he needs to find his daughter and wife, Michael volunteers to help. He
reassures Evans, We ll get through this. We ll find your wife and child (85). This
proves that Michael becomes a positive and diligent character, who is determined to
help Evans find his family members during these egregious times. In addition, Aries also
undergoes dramatic changes throughout the novel. For instance, she is a very scared and
pessimistic character when she finds out that her friend, Sarah, has died. As the story
progresses, Aries develops into an exceptional leader who others admire and treat
respectfully. Aries thinks to herself, No matter how much of a leader she didn t think she
was, she d get them
Security Policy Framework For Creating A Security Program
All organizations should have an effective IT security policy framework to creating a
security program to meet the needs of the organization to protect information and their
information systems. There are many security frameworks that can be used to design an
IT security program such as NIST and COBIT being a few. It is very important to
establishing compliance of IT securitycontrols with U.S. laws and regulation. The
organization can align the policies and controls with the regulations. There are seven
domain in the framework and each have their own challenges. There are issues and
challenges with implementing a security policy framework and ways to overcome these
problems. The IT policy framework is made of policies, standards, baselines, procedures
and guidelines to help protect information systems of the organization. There are several
frameworks that can be used and three of them stand out as more widely used are Control
Objectives for Information and related Technology (COBIT), ISO/EIC 27000 series and
National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) Special Publications. If an
organization does business with internationally, they may want to look into the ISO/EIC
27000 framework. According to Johnson (2011), there are 12 areas of the ISO/EIC 27000
which are risk assessments and treatment, security policy, organization of information
security, asset management, human resources security, physical and environmental

The British Airways Strikes Effects on Employee Motivation
The British Airways Strikes Effects On Employee Motivation
Introduction
British Airways is one of the leading airline company in Europe, nevertheless in the
last few years it has financial problems, talks begin between British Airways and the
Unite (Britain s biggest union) from January of 2009 to solve the problem. At the
beginning, the relationship between the two parties was composed, but the milestone
was in 2009 October, when the British Airways stated that they are going to cut the
staff on long haul airlines, and from 2010 they freeze the payment of the cabin crew for
two years. In December, the majority of British Airways employees decided on strike
actions for 12 days, during Christmas time. It was a critical date, because ... Show more

The wrong amount of conflict can lead to limited physical or mental health (stress),
wasted resources, sidetracked goals and/or heightened self interest (Torrington et al
2008). The manager has to see how it is the relationship between the company and
employees or among the employees. If the manager notices that the performance is poor,
he or she should minimize it.
The British Airways strikes have an enormous influence on the tourism industry, on
passengers and BAA ,as well (BAA Results 2010). The strike actions has also an
impact on the ones who work during the walk outs. It is because of the passengers
who have to wait and can not fly off as they planned. They are angry and they think
that the ones who work during the walk outs are responsible for their nuisances, but it
is not because of them. Because of they are strike breakers they have a conflict with
the staff members who are on strike. According to the BBC, if they solve the conflict
and everything will be finished the next thing which they have to decide is that they
have to find a way to restructure the relationship between the employees and
management and among the employees. A strike attendant said: We will still do a good
job for the passengers but I do think it will be a bare minimum because, whatever we do,
you do not get anything back from the company (BBC 2010) . The employee motivation
is suffering but not just because of the disputes among people. The
Corporate Social Responsibility ( Csr )
Corporate social responsibility has been a fixture in the business world for decades, and
has become embedded in many universities as higher education leaders seek alternative
ways to achieve sustainability (Weiss, 2016). Social Responsibility can be defined as a
code of conduct and action beyond what is required by laws and regulations when
running a particular organisation. As organizations do not operate in a vacuum, their
activities will impact their surroundings which include their stakeholders, society, and
other influenced parties (Nejati et al., 2011). Universities are a crucial part of modern
society, and inescapably benefit from the communities in which they are based. A good
universitywill look at finding ways to give back to... Show more content on

Therefore it is inferred that universities should be responsible towards society and their
stakeholders.
For a university to be able to completely achieve the goal of USR, they need to
understand the basics of Social Responsibility. Vallaeys (2013) has identified the key
features of SR as follows:
1.Social Responsibility is a responsibility of organisations for the negative impacts (social
and environmental) they have caused through their actions
2.Social Responsibility requires a form of management that seeks to make society
sustainable by eliminating unsustainable negative impacts and promoting sustainable
forms of development.
3.Social Responsibility is not completely disconnected from the law; it works in
coordination with legal obligations.
4.Social Responsibility requires coordination between the stakeholders who are able to
act on the negative impacts diagnosed.
But according to Schneller and Thöni (2011, p.16), since it is still an open field, most of
what the universities practise as USR are within the framework of quality management
and accreditation. The accreditation and quality management standards in most countries
have community or social engagement criteria. This creates a suggestion that the
universities will work within the confines of these standards to fulfil or meet the
minimum requirements. So is this an
The Great Day Of My Life
Roosevelt once described his service in the Spanish American War as the great day of
my life (www.nps.com). Roosevelt s incredible leadership ability was first put to the
test and demonstrated during the Battle of Las Guasimas as he braved a hail of enemy
fire from horseback and led his men to a flanking position that broke the back of the
Spanish forces and sent them into retreat. Following this action, Col. Wood was
promoted to General, and Roosevelt was promoted to Colonel, giving him command of
the 1st Volunteer Cavalry Regiment. Las Guasimas was a defining moment in
Roosevelt s life; however the greatest of these moments was no doubt at the Battle of
San Juan Heights. Pinned down by heavy enemy fire, Roosevelt mounted his horse and
cried Are you afraid to stand up, when I am on horseback, (www.artofmanliness.com) as
he charged headlong into the fire and up Kettle Hill. After taking the first hill, Roosevelt
saw that the American effort on the adjacent San Juan Hill was faltering, and he once
again rallied his men for one final assault on the Spanish position. The following
description of Roosevelt s action is from his Medal of Honor citation, which was awarded
posthumously in 2001. Lieutenant Colonel Theodore Rooseveltdistinguished himself by
acts of bravery on 1 July 1898, near Santiago de Cuba, Republic of Cuba, while leading
a daring charge up San Juan Hill. Lieutenant Colonel Roosevelt, in total disregard for his
personal safety, and accompanied by only four

Critical Thinking Effectiveness
Abstract Throughout the years, Critical Thinkers have learned ways to become
effective when it comes to decision making and problem solving. Critical Thinking
requires you to actively use your mind to mentally process thoughts and listen to ways
to learn different ideas. Some people may lack the ability to apply critical thinking
which inhibits thinking independently and open mindedly. This literature will examine
several ways to become an effective critical thinker. This paper will determine what
critical thinking really consists of, and ways to develop you re critical thinking in order
to make a quick problem solving solution and decisions. It will also compare the

(DeBruin, Parker, Fishhoff, 2007). A study in the journal intelligence found that people
higher in fluid reasoning, a concept closely linked to critical thinking, outperform others
in producing creative idea, and better able to benefit from strategies that promote
creative thinking (Nusbaum Siliva, 2011). Research also show the problem with a non
critical thinker is they are unable to change their concepts. Uncritical thinkers get stuck
using the same concepts or use incorrect concepts to interpret the world. (The Radical
Revolutionary Strategic Management p.276) While a master critical thinker forces their
minds to think of different ways of employing or integrating the same things or ideas.
(The Radical Revolutionary Strategic Management p.276) This evidence shows that
critical thinkers are very good decision makers and problem solvers. Critical thinking
requires an important thinking process, which allows people to make choices using
different reasoning and facts. If a critical thinker is not able to adjust their mind set on
different viewpoints, they will make decision based off emotion and not evidence or
facts (A Practical Guide to Critical Thinking). For example: Quality assurance of case

Changes in Arabic Societies During teh 20th Century
The early 20th century saw major changes in Arabic societies, which initiated a new
cultural order that changed the lives of men and women alike. The sweeping changes
associated with this period were catalyzed by a massive immigration from the
countryside into the rapidly expanding urban centers of the region. There exist a
variety of contributing factors to this migration: systems of land inheritance that
fragmented land into smaller parcels (decreasing an already declining income per
capita); the world wide economic crisis of the 1930s that further crippled the income
of farmers, and the disappearance of sustainable jobs. As a result, millions of rural
dwelling peoples flocked to the cities where the prospect of employment was most
probable. The population of cities such as Cairo grew at an even faster rate than that of
the country itself, surging from 800,000 to 1,300,000 between 1917 and 1937 (
Hourani 335). This rapid increase led to a change in the layout of the cities, forming a
variety of different, class dividing quarters. Furthermore, the inter mingling of a variety
of different cultures and nationalities in these major urban centers stimulated the
formation of a new era of social norms, especially in Muslim societies. During this time
of expansion, the general population became more literate, necessitating a large increase
in the number of books issued and printed. Literature of all kinds was provided to a
hungry audience, including textbooks, works of
Social Workers And The Social Work Field
Occupation Profile
Social working is an industry so vast and extensive, but consequently be so invisible if
you have never been exposed to it. Going into the social work field you have to have
the value of selflessness and great charity. A social worker s education can range from
with a bachelor s to achieving multiple masters or a doctorate. This is not a field quite
solely relying on an education, there is a wide range of competitiveness for social
workers. The first step is getting on a licensing standpoint, and all of your education;
in reality you need to make yourself an acceptable offering for the social workers
competition field. Ordinarily, it is necessary to carry several references who can give
an honest record of your aptitude. To find the correct qualities in a reference to make the
perfect social worker applicable is dubious, because the difference in social workers and
patients is numerous, furthermore positive results in practices, diverse. The competitive
attitude of social work can be very strong; also very populous. There can be a broad
spectrum of areas to practice, from medical offices alone; Geriatric, or those with the
help of senior citizens. These social workers will be helping clients find their services,
such as providing elderly adults with meals or health care, and giving information on
living facilities. Health care social worker can also work in a hospice or palliative care.
Another social worker in health care could be a
The Chorus Of Sophocles Antigone
Introduction
A large part of Greek culture were the religious festivals that occurred once a year.
Furthermore, during these festivals the greeks would honor their gods. The Festival of
Dionysus honored the god of fertility, revelry and wine (Reinhold 1959).
The author of Antigone, Sophocles had participated in one of these festivals and won
the award for his performance. He did not become known as one of the greatest
playwrights then. Only now is he thought of as one of the greatest playwrights during the
greek era.
The point of this paper is to show how the chorus in Greek Theater tragedy performances
affect the way the play Antigone is performed. Through the use of mask, staging, and
speech, Sophocles best distinguishes the chorus.
Sophocles most famous playwright is Antigone which was written around 441 b.c.
(Reinhold 1959). The odes for the chorus is why this playwright is famous. In order to
perform Antigone, a director would need to understand numerous things relating to the
chorus: where the chorus adds structure of the play, traditional Greek staging, mask and
type of costumes in the play.
Antigone and her sister decide to return to Thebes with the intention of helping their
brothers (Eteocles and Polyneices) avoid a prophecy which predicts they will kill each
other in a battle for the throne of Thebes (Samooh Theater 2014). Unfortunately for the
brothers, the prophecy fulfills itself . Antigone returns home to find out that her brothers
are dead. Her
Sports Are Good For Children
Organized Sports are Good for Children As time passes and as technology is
advancing, the tradition of playing outside is diminishing rapidly. Many people
concentrate on their electronic devices in their ages as early as three. Sports are the
most effective way that children express their joyfulness and brilliance. It provides
children advantages of physical activities, confidence, and enjoyment. Participating in
organized sports in early ages can produce the greatest results for children. Organized
sports are good for children to improve social skills, to have successful life, and to
keep their health. First, organized sports are good for children because it improves
social skills. Children who participate in team sports are full of confidence. According
to Gary R. Collins, who writes the Spotlight or Stress, This is especially
uncomfortable and stressful when other people expect us to do one thing, when we
fear that we can t do what is expected, and we think that our inability may cause us to
lose respect in the eyes of others. Since everyone is not perfect, sometimes they can
win or lose the games. Also Collins says, Acceptance is a third divine characteristic of
success. At the beginning, they can be afraid of losing, but it is a good opportunity to
have the ability of how to accept loosing games. Children will be able to develop their
minds and their sense of purpose with more passion through competitive experiences.
They will have high self esteem and will
Conservation Of Pungalina In Northern Australia
Many long sandstone ranges make up most of the interior of the region, falling to low
plains which border the coastal areas. As with many other regions across Northern
Australia the ecological health of the Gulf is now under threat by poorly managed cattle
grazing, a change in fire management and the impact of weeds and feral animals.
Pungalina is a lucky exception to these unfortunate events. Perched on a sandstone
plateau and heavily dissected by gorges and rivers, Pungalina protects a collection of
habitats that remain in near pristine condition.
The Pandanus Palm provides habitat for some of Northern Australia s rarest birds,
including the purple crowned Fairy Wren. Gorges and ridges showcase the geological
history of the Gulf region and provide habitat for rock possums and rock wallabies. ...

My Experience At Summer Camp
You and your sister are soooooo different, my friend, who I had met at summer camp a
couple years before, informed me as we stood beneath the blistering sun, our necks
slicked with sweat and our throats parched. Approximately two second before Julia
spoke those words, my sister had attempted to do a cartwheel in front of the whole
camp, failed miserably, and screamed out in amusement. The episode was followed
first by a simultaneous gasp from the mouths of 200 campers, in fear of her injury, and
then a fit of booming laughter when she stuck up her thumb and smiled. While
everyone stood around watching her, I pouted on the sidelines of the common field
and shook my head in shame. Of course I wanted to be in on the fun, laughing and
jumping and doing gymnastics with the rest of West Mountain Camp s population.
But instead, I felt forced into a reputation created for me so many years ago as the
quiet, calm and mature twin sister of the rambunctious and outgoing Chloe Blumberg.
Always sitting on the sidelines, reading my books, doling out my wise words and
keeping my sister in check. The funny thing is, I can t remember it ever being
different. I was always told by my mom, dad and grandparents that I was the quiet and
mature one of the duo, and that I didn t need to get attention in the way Chloe always
did because my intelligence was enough to give me the recognition I needed. Chloe was
just always so loud and clumsy that by default I was destined to be the other one, more in
Analyzing The Graphic Novel V For Vendetta
Liana Montecino English 105 Baden October 7, 2016 Vervuiling In the graphic novel
V for Vendetta written by David Lloyd and Alan Moore, there is a large dispute in
regards to whether or not the protagonist of the novel is an actual terrorist, or if he is
simply a freedom fighter. Many may believe that it varies according to one s different
experiences and their knowledge; however, the graphic novel reinforces the idea that a
terrorist is someone who inflicts harm on innocent civilians and is determined to creates
a sense of fear; meanwhile, a freedom fighter is someone who fights for the greater
good. In the novel V for Vendetta, the character V seeks revenge and justice, however in
doing so helps London recuperate from their corrupt government... Show more content on

In most instances that are provided in the text, he only takes away the lives of those
who are in his opinion, the cause of London s corrupt government. However, a few
may argue that because V was a victim of the government, that his motives behind
choosing the lives that are taken are purely for his personal revenge, instead of for the
greater good of the people but this is not the case. For instance, when V makes a
replica of a prison to torture Evey, his intentions are to help her understand the system
that the government created(Lloyd)Many oppose the idea of V helping Evey due to the
torture that he forced her to endure, and believe that V s intentions were purely to
brainwash her in order to manipulate and use her to his advantage in his scheme to
terrorize the government. Although this reason is valid, nevertheless, it can be argued
that the freedom fighter simply did not have a choice, if he was truly going to make a
difference in the government; apart from having to instill fear in the government he had
to expose them as well, and part of the process was making sure that if Evey could see
the truth so could everyone else. A credible source on the other hand, agrees that
terrorism occurs when civilians are killed in the crossfire, a man named Michael Burnett.
In the article, How Do You Define Terrorism? Oliver Libaw interviews, Burnett, a
political science professor from the University of Wisconsin argues that V, a man that
destructed government property could be portrayed as a terrorist to the government, but
is in fact an actual hero trying to save other people. Despite the way he attempts to fight
for the them, through the destruction of government property his intentions remain the
Perceptual Narrowing In Infants
Infants begin to respond to stimulation within their environment between one to two
months of age. First, he or she will respond to auditory stimuli. Then the baby will
respond to visual stimuli, most likely with a smile because they begin to recognize
familiarity. Why is this? What is the process in which an infantundergoes to arrive at such
attunement of familiarity? And, why does it happen? An infant s brain is undergoing so
much development in the early phases of life. The reason in which these responses come
in this particular order is because, as the infant gains experiences, they become more
attuned with what they are most frequently exposed to. Babies, in the womb, undergo
various per listening experiences, therefore, it is expected... Show more content on

This idea, in contradiction with previously stated findings, explores the notion that
perceptual narrowing may not necessarily be a function of experience. However, the
synapsing of the neurons in the developing mind of an infant prove to further enforce the
idea of perceptual narrowing and that the brain is making space for the growth to ensue
upon development, while getting rid of information that is unnecessary, and not
frequently encountered. Also, it is necessary to address the possibility that some of this
developmental sensitivity, in regards to sound familiarity, is induced from prenatal
listening. In Perceptual Narrowing During Infancy: A Comparison of Language and
Faces, the authors pursued an evaluation to expose infants to sounds and filtered speech
similar to what they would have encountered during pre listening experiences (Maurer).
The researchers, Daphne Maurer and Janet F. Werker, find that preference for speech
seems to emerge without specific listening experience to induce it. Nonetheless,
experience does play a role (Maurer). Neonatal listening is broad, however the perceptual
narrowing effect during development continues to narrow with

Zzzz Best Case Study
ZZZZ Best, a carpet cleaning company, was founded by Barry Minkow in 1982 in
Reseda, California. Barry always wished to succeed in business and become the
American Dream of financial success. When he was nine years old, he worked as a
telemarketer in a carpet cleaning business. Six years later, when he was only sixteen
years old, he began his personal carpet business in his parent s garage in Los Angeles
(ZZZZ Best Case Places SEC Procedures Under Scrutiny). He had three employees and
was considered the most successful teenage businessman in the United States. Minkow
discovered he could become very successful in business through insurance restoration.
He would file a claim for restoration of the business from a natural disaster. ZZZ Best
was profitable in carpet cleaning, yet 85% of the business profits came from fraudulent
insurance restoration business. Minkow used insurance restoration as a cover for the cost
of the money he was acquiring illegally (Taylor). Shortly after, insurance restoration
became the major source of revenue for the company s income, rather than carpet
cleaning. Minkow s dream in becoming successful in business caused him to become
more innovative. He started using his counterfeit financial statements to persuade
wealthy entrepreneurs to invest in ZZZZ Best. Ultimately, Minkow realized that the
crucial scam would be to make his company public. This would enable him to utilize the
bank accounts of investors nationwide. By becoming a public company,

Suicide Note by Janice Mirikitani, The Road Not Taken by Robert Frost, and Dreams of
Suicide by William Meredith are the three poems that connect together in several
different ways. Not only do the poems link together, but the authors do as well. This
paper will present biographical information about the authors, symbols throughout the
poems, and the literary elements the authors chose to use in the poems. It will also
explain how the symbols and literary elements that are used help emphasize the themes
that the authors have chosen.
Author of the poem Suicide Note, Janice Miriktani was born in 1941 (Bostian). Her
writing journey began in 1965. Janice published her first volume out of four in 1978.
Janice, just like many other writers, had struggles throughout her life. Janice was
sexually abused by her family and was forced to keep it a secret (Bostian). One out of her
four volumes of poetry stemmed from the tragic events that she had faced. It is
Shedding Silence: Poetry and Prose, and contains a total of 35 poems, a short play
entitled Shedding Silence, and some short stories (Bostian). Because Mirikitani sought
to break the cycle of violence created by her past that is set by being silent, her tone is
angry and aggressive in most poems. Her family was also involved in World War II
conflicts (Bostian). Since she was Japanese American, she was often mistreated due to
the harsh stereotype thrust upon her during the World War. Deirdre Lashgare says,
Disadvantages Of Professional Kitchen Remodeling

likely already know that you, literally, have an unlimited number of options. In
addition to what you would like remodeled and how you would like everything to
look, you can also choose how your remodeling gets done. While a large number of
homeowners make the decision to do their own kitchen remodeling, there are others who
choose to use the assistance of a professional. That professional is often commonly
referred to as a contractor. One of the best ways to determine whether you not you should
use a professional contractor is to examine the advantages and disadvantages of doing so.
As you may have already assumed, there are an unlimited number of benefits to having
your kitchen remodeled by a professional. Perhaps, the greatest benefit of a professional
kitchen remodeling job is the end result. In almost all cases, you will find that a
professional remodeling job is better than one that is performed by someone without

rich in The Great Gatsby. ВЁMy own house was an eyesore, but it was a small eyesore,
and it had been overlooked, so I had a view of the water, a partial view of my neighbor
s lawn, and the consoling proximity of millionaires all for eighty dollars a month
(Fitzgerald 5). This quote gives an insight to the lifestyle the rich enjoyed in the 20 s
which is a contrast of what the poor were doing in this time period. The poor in this
time period were cramped in houses and were overworked in factories. This displays
class expectations because it showed that the rich were extravagant.
Fitzgerald uses of imagery give the reader a visual to use when describing the lush
reality of the characters. The lawn started at the beach and ran toward the front door for
a quarter of a mile, jumping over usn dials and brick walks and burning gardens finally
when it reached the house drifting up the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Throughout the novel Fitzgerald uses different sentence structure to show emphasis on
a subject. For example he uses repetition to show the carefree attitude the old money
had because they were financially stable. The other girl, Daisy, made an attempt to rise
she leaned slightly forward with a conscientious expression then she laughed, an absurd,
charming little laugh, and I laughed too and came forward into the room (Fitzgerald 7).
Fitzgerald s repeated use of the word laugh shows that Daisy is carefree and is happy
which is an attitude that the rich people in this time period
Dwight D Eisenhower A Role Model
President Dwight D. Eisenhower is a role model to many American. From being a
general during WWII, to helping fund NASA s ever longing hope to go into space, he
helped shape America into the country it is today. Eisenhower was born October 14,
1890 in Abilene, Kansas to David and Ida Eisenhower ( Biography Web.). He attended
the United StatesMilitary Academy in West Point, New York. Eisenhower grew up to be
a highly respected man, becoming the 34th president of the United Statesof America. He
became known as the man who helped end the Korean War, create the Interstate
Highway, and assisted the Middle East during the Cold War ( Korean Web.).
After World War II, the US, Britain, and USSR decided that the Koreas should become
two separate countries. However, the Koreas wanted to unite into one country. North
Korea surprised South Korea by attacking at dawn on June 25, 1950. The war continued
to escalate and the US sent in an army to help South Korea. During this time, Eisenhower
helped negotiate a seemingly never ending armistice in the Korean war only six months
into his presidency. The Korean War never truly come to an end, no live rounds have
been fired but the tensions still permeate society. ... Show more content on

Eisenhower continued to surprise people throughout his presidency. Eisenhower signed
the Federal Aid Highway Act of 1956 ( Highway Web.). Money obtained through this
act led to the development of a highway system running through all 48 states.
Construction was completed over a period of 20 years. Today this highway is used to
transport goods across the country; such as; oil, lumber, and food
Write An Essay On Amur Leopards
The Amur leopard is a subspecies of leopards typically found in the African savannah,
this particular species however is native to the tundra of northeast China and far
eastern Russia. They are a critically endangered derivative of wild cats, with only an
estimated fifty individuals left in the wild. Much like other big cat species, the Amur
leopard tends to live alone, except to breed. Females sexually mature around the ages
of three or four years, usually having anywhere from one to four cubs at a time, and
after about two years, the cubs become fully independent. Being carnivorous, the amur
leopard s diet consists of predominantly deer and other wildlife native to the tundra of
eastern Russia. This species of leopard serves as a keystone

Roll Of Thunder, Hear My Cry
Mildred D. Taylor s award winning book called Roll of Thunder, Hear My Cry expresses
many themes dealing with the struggles African Americans faced during the early
twentieth century all throughout the story. One of the most crucial themes Ms.Taylor
integrates in her story is race. The message/main idea of racein Roll of Thunder, Hear My
Cry is proven through the story elements Mildred D. Taylorutilizes. Those elements
include story structure, conflict, characterization, and climax and resolution. With these
elements, Ms.Taylor strongly hints the effect race had back in the time the story took
place (presumingly around the Great Depression). The message she wants to portray is
what the African Americans had to endure through all the... Show more content on

Taylor also uses characterization to further push her theme of race and racism in her story.
Characterization is the way the characters in a story behave, respond, think, and speak.
In Roll of Thunder, Hear My Cry there are numerous examples of Ms. Taylor
manipulating characters to demonstrate her theme. One example is the way R.W and
Melvin Simms treat TJ. After TJ got Mama fired, the children stopped being friends
with TJ causing TJ to start befriending R.W and Melvin Simms instead. On Chapter
Nine the text states, Well, you told me Jeremy said they were laughing at T.J. behind
his back. Some folks just like to keep other folks around to laugh at them. . .use them.
These words come from out of Mama s mouth. This specific piece of evidence proves
that R.W. and Melvin just want to keep T.J. around because he is something they could
make fun of later when he leaves. The way the two Simms brothers behave portrays
them to be racist. Again, the only reason why they keep T.J. around is to laugh and
make fun of him later on. That stems from their belief that T.J., a black person, is less
than them. Therefore, they just want to use him to get a good laugh out of it all.
Besides the previous piece of evidence, there is one more equally important fragment
of verification on Chapter Five page 115. While running out of Mr. Barnett s store
from getting kicked out, Cassie physically runs into Lillian Jean. Lillian Jean wants
Cassie to apologize for bumping into her in which Cassie refuses to do so. Mr. Simms
grows impatient and mistreats Cassie by glaring and scolding her. Then Mr. Simms
jumped into the street. I moved away from him, trying to get up. He was a mean
looking man, red in the face and bearded. I was afraid he was going to hit me before I
could get to my feet, but he didn t. I scrambled and ran blindly for the wagon. Big Ma
noticing all the commotion, makes Cassie apologize to Lillian Jean. This detail t in the
Compare And Contrast Fort Myers And Porters
Fort Myers Vs Porter Fort Myers and Porter are two amazing cities. Fort Myers located
in the Sunshine State and Porter in the Lone Star State. Porter is more of a suburban
area whereas Fort Myers is more developed as a city. Both these cities have very
noticeable differences. One is more active and alive, and the other is calm. Although
these cities are opposites, they have similar qualities that we can compare to see which
city is better. Notably Floridais known for having many glamorous theme parks, but Texas
also has these attractions. Although not as big as Floridas, Texas has a few theme parks
close to Porter. Two Six Flags theme parks are located in Dallas and San Antonio Texas.
Just three hours North and West of Porter. However within... Show more content on

Within the city there is a lot to do. During the weekend many locals go out on their
boats onto the caloosahatchee river or go fishing. During the winter the Red Sox
practice in Fort Myers. Here they have their summer training camp at the Jet Blue
Stadium. Famous people have lived here in Fort Myers like Thomas Edison and
Henry Ford. Tourist still visit their houses along the Caloosahatchee river. Florida has
many stunning beaches, and Fort Myers is not an exception. There are many beaches
one could visit in the Fort Myers area. Whereas in Porter the closest beach is about an
hour away. Locals in Porter have to travel out of the city in order to do anything.
Luckily Houston is very close by. Here many events are held like professional soccer
games in the BBVA compass stadium. In downtown the Houston Texans, a football
team, play in the NRG stadium. As can be seen, Fort Myers and Porter are two
amazing cities. It is difficult to decide which city is better. Both cities are very
different from one another. Yet they have similarities that can be used to compare each
other. Some people might prefer a city that is calmer like Porter, but others might like
to go to the beach in the middle of winter. This is what makes it difficult to decide what
city is better. Both cities are great to live in and are growing
The Indian Claims Commission And The Civil Rights
Movement
The Indian Claims Commission was a judicial panel for relations between the United
States Federal Government and Native American tribes. It was established under the
Indian Claims Act in 1946 by the United States Congress to hear claims of Indian
tribes against the United States. According to Rosier (2003) the impetus to create the
ICC came from three main sources. Native Americans and white political leaders had
been calling for a commission separate from the backlogged U.S. Court of Claims
since 1910. Assimilationists intent on terminating federal guardianship of Native
Americans hoped to eliminate a final legal and moral hurdle by wiping the slate clean
of Indian demands for re dress. Finally, federal officials wanted to address Native
Americans grievances as a reward for their contributions during World War II and to
create a positive record of dealing fairly with America s minorities in the increasingly
competitive atmosphere of the Cold War. After the 1960 s civil rights movement led by
African Americans, many Native Americans also pushed for more civil rights and
renewed what many see as their original struggle to force the U.S. to keep its promises
to native people. Today the relationship between native peoples and the rest of the U.S.
remains complicated and often tense. The government still maintains agencies such as
the Bureau of Indian Affairs to deal specifically with Native Americans. In 2003, the U.S.
Commission on Civil Rights, a bipartisan group set
Modest Country Life
America, in the early colonial years, was mostly country. Multitudes of people lived on
farms, and few towns existed. As time has passed, America has innovated, and now
millions of prodigious cities overpower the dwindling areas of the country. Because of
the numerous towns, rarely any Americans have experienced the modest country life.
Some individuals believe that the cityis superior to the nation only by considering the
conveniences that the city possesses. However, nearly all Americans have yet to realize
the specialness of this country. It is an improved place to live in the city because it is
peaceful, self sufficient, and beautiful.
First, the country is less stressful than the city. The lack of cars, trains, roads, restaurants,

Corporate Social Responsibility ( Csr ) Corporate social responsibility has been a fixture in the business world for decades, and has become embedded in many universities as higher education leaders seek alternative ways to achieve sustainability (Weiss, 2016). Social Responsibility can be defined as a code of conduct and action beyond what is required by laws and regulations when running a particular organisation. As organizations do not operate in a vacuum, their activities will impact their surroundings which include their stakeholders, society, and other influenced parties (Nejati et al., 2011). For a university to be able to completely achieve the goal of USR, they need to understand the basics of Social Responsibility. Vallaeys (2013) has identified the key features of SR as follows: 1.Social Responsibility is a responsibility of organisations for the negative impacts (social and environmental) they have caused through their actions 2.Social Responsibility requires a form of management that seeks to make society sustainable by eliminating unsustainable negative impacts and promoting sustainable forms of development. 3.Social Responsibility is not completely disconnected from the law; it works in coordination with legal obligations. 4.Social Responsibility requires coordination between the stakeholders who are able to act on the negative impacts diagnosed. But according to Schneller and Thöni (2011, p.16), since it is still an open field, most of what the universities practise as USR are within the framework of quality management and accreditation. The accreditation and quality management standards in most countries have community or social engagement criteria. This creates a suggestion that the universities will work within the confines of these standards to fulfil or meet the minimum requirements. So is this an

Roosevelt s incredible leadership ability was first put to the test and demonstrated during the Battle of Las Guasimas as he braved a hail of enemy fire from horseback and led his men to a flanking position that broke the back of the Spanish forces and sent them into retreat. Following this action, Col. Wood was promoted to General, and Roosevelt was promoted to Colonel, giving him command of the 1st Volunteer Cavalry Regiment. Las Guasimas was a defining moment in Roosevelt s life; however the greatest of these moments was no doubt at the Battle of San Juan Heights. Pinned down by heavy enemy fire, Roosevelt mounted his horse and cried Are you afraid to stand up, when I am on horseback, (www.artofmanliness.com) as he charged headlong into the fire and up Kettle Hill. After taking the first hill, Roosevelt saw that the American effort on the adjacent San Juan Hill was faltering, and he once again rallied his men for one final assault on the Spanish position. • 9. Changes in Arabic Societies During teh 20th Century The early 20th century saw major changes in Arabic societies, which initiated a new cultural order that changed the lives of men and women alike. The sweeping changes associated with this period were catalyzed by a massive immigration from the countryside into the rapidly expanding urban centers of the region. There exist a variety of contributing factors to this migration: systems of land inheritance that fragmented land into smaller parcels (decreasing an already declining income per capita); the world wide economic crisis of the 1930s that further crippled the income of farmers, and the disappearance of sustainable jobs. As a result, millions of rural dwelling peoples flocked to the cities where the prospect of employment was most probable. The population of cities such as Cairo grew at an even faster rate than that of the country itself, surging from 800,000 to 1,300,000 between 1917 and 1937 ( Hourani 335). This rapid increase led to a change in the layout of the cities, forming a variety of different, class dividing quarters. Furthermore, the inter mingling of a variety of different cultures and nationalities in these major urban centers stimulated the formation of a new era of social norms, especially in Muslim societies. During this time of expansion, the general population became more literate, necessitating a large increase in the number of books issued and printed. Literature of all kinds was provided to a hungry audience, including textbooks, works of

  • 11. The Chorus Of Sophocles Antigone Introduction A large part of Greek culture were the religious festivals that occurred once a year. Furthermore, during these festivals the greeks would honor their gods. The Festival of Dionysus honored the god of fertility, revelry and wine (Reinhold 1959). The author of Antigone, Sophocles had participated in one of these festivals and won the award for his performance. He did not become known as one of the greatest playwrights then. Only now is he thought of as one of the greatest playwrights during the greek era. The point of this paper is to show how the chorus in Greek Theater tragedy performances affect the way the play Antigone is performed. Through the use of mask, staging, and speech, Sophocles best distinguishes the chorus. Sophocles most famous playwright is Antigone which was written around 441 b.c. (Reinhold 1959). The odes for the chorus is why this playwright is famous. In order to perform Antigone, a director would need to understand numerous things relating to the chorus: where the chorus adds structure of the play, traditional Greek staging, mask and type of costumes in the play. Antigone and her sister decide to return to Thebes with the intention of helping their brothers (Eteocles and Polyneices) avoid a prophecy which predicts they will kill each other in a battle for the throne of Thebes (Samooh Theater 2014). Unfortunately for the brothers, the prophecy fulfills itself . Antigone returns home to find out that her brothers are dead. Her

The episode was followed first by a simultaneous gasp from the mouths of 200 campers, in fear of her injury, and then a fit of booming laughter when she stuck up her thumb and smiled. For instance, when V makes a replica of a prison to torture Evey, his intentions are to help her understand the system that the government created(Lloyd)Many oppose the idea of V helping Evey due to the torture that he forced her to endure, and believe that V s intentions were purely to brainwash her in order to manipulate and use her to his advantage in his scheme to terrorize the government. Although this reason is valid, nevertheless, it can be argued that the freedom fighter simply did not have a choice, if he was truly going to make a difference in the government; apart from having to instill fear in the government he had to expose them as well, and part of the process was making sure that if Evey could see the truth so could everyone else. Also, it is necessary to address the possibility that some of this developmental sensitivity, in regards to sound familiarity, is induced from prenatal listening. In Perceptual Narrowing During Infancy: A Comparison of Language and Faces, the authors pursued an evaluation to expose infants to sounds and filtered speech similar to what they would have encountered during pre listening experiences (Maurer). One out of her four volumes of poetry stemmed from the tragic events that she had faced. It is Shedding Silence: Poetry and Prose, and contains a total of 35 poems, a short play entitled Shedding Silence, and some short stories (Bostian). Because Mirikitani sought to break the cycle of violence created by her past that is set by being silent, her tone is angry and aggressive in most poems. Her family was also involved in World War II conflicts (Bostian). Since she was Japanese American, she was often mistreated due to the harsh stereotype thrust upon her during the World War. • 25. Roll Of Thunder, Hear My Cry Mildred D. Taylor s award winning book called Roll of Thunder, Hear My Cry expresses many themes dealing with the struggles African Americans faced during the early twentieth century all throughout the story. One of the most crucial themes Ms.Taylor integrates in her story is race. The message/main idea of racein Roll of Thunder, Hear My Cry is proven through the story elements Mildred D. Taylorutilizes. Those elements include story structure, conflict, characterization, and climax and resolution. With these elements, Ms.Taylor strongly hints the effect race had back in the time the story took place (presumingly around the Great Depression). The message she wants to portray is what the African Americans had to endure through all the... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Taylor also uses characterization to further push her theme of race and racism in her story. Characterization is the way the characters in a story behave, respond, think, and speak. In Roll of Thunder, Hear My Cry there are numerous examples of Ms. Taylor manipulating characters to demonstrate her theme. One example is the way R.W and Melvin Simms treat TJ. After TJ got Mama fired, the children stopped being friends with TJ causing TJ to start befriending R.W and Melvin Simms instead. On Chapter Nine the text states, Well, you told me Jeremy said they were laughing at T.J. behind his back. Some folks just like to keep other folks around to laugh at them. . .use them. These words come from out of Mama s mouth. This specific piece of evidence proves that R.W. and Melvin just want to keep T.J. around because he is something they could make fun of later when he leaves. The way the two Simms brothers behave portrays them to be racist. Again, the only reason why they keep T.J. around is to laugh and make fun of him later on. That stems from their belief that T.J., a black person, is less than them. Therefore, they just want to use him to get a good laugh out of it all. Besides the previous piece of evidence, there is one more equally important fragment of verification on Chapter Five page 115. While running out of Mr. Barnett s store from getting kicked out, Cassie physically runs into Lillian Jean. Lillian Jean wants Cassie to apologize for bumping into her in which Cassie refuses to do so. Mr. Simms grows impatient and mistreats Cassie by glaring and scolding her. Then Mr. Simms jumped into the street. I moved away from him, trying to get up. He was a mean looking man, red in the face and bearded. I was afraid he was going to hit me before I could get to my feet, but he didn t. I scrambled and ran blindly for the wagon. Big Ma noticing all the commotion, makes Cassie apologize to Lillian Jean. • 27. The Indian Claims Commission And The Civil Rights Movement The Indian Claims Commission was a judicial panel for relations between the United States Federal Government and Native American tribes. It was established under the Indian Claims Act in 1946 by the United States Congress to hear claims of Indian tribes against the United States. According to Rosier (2003) the impetus to create the ICC came from three main sources. Native Americans and white political leaders had been calling for a commission separate from the backlogged U.S. Court of Claims since 1910. Assimilationists intent on terminating federal guardianship of Native Americans hoped to eliminate a final legal and moral hurdle by wiping the slate clean of Indian demands for re dress. Finally, federal officials wanted to address Native Americans grievances as a reward for their contributions during World War II and to create a positive record of dealing fairly with America s minorities in the increasingly competitive atmosphere of the Cold War. After the 1960 s civil rights movement led by African Americans, many Native Americans also pushed for more civil rights and renewed what many see as their original struggle to force the U.S. to keep its promises to native people. Today the relationship between native peoples and the rest of the U.S. remains complicated and often tense. The government still maintains agencies such as the Bureau of Indian Affairs to deal specifically with Native Americans. In 2003, the U.S. Commission on Civil Rights, a bipartisan group set
