The Disaster Of The Chernobyl Disaster
On the day of April 26, 1986, an event that had affected many people took place, The Chernobyl
Disaster. The radiation cloud had spread over 27 countries. 28 people died within a few weeks as
a result of acute radiation poisoning. The steam explosion and fires had released 5% of the
radioactive reactor core into the atmosphere. 1,100 square miles around the reactor still remain
uninhabitable to this day.
Recently documented, it has been said that over 500,000 people have died from radiation exposure
over the past two decades. 5 8 million people continue to live in the contamination zone causing a

Depleted uranium will remain toxic for an estimated 4.5 million years. After decades of scientific

reactors, or by the 104 currently licensed.
And according to CBS News, waste is currently leaking from a quarter of US nuclear power sites.
In the last three years alone, cancer causing tritium was found in the water and soil around nuclear

Bringing Dog In The Workplace
Dogs are cute animals. Even though some people think bringing dogs to workplaces is not a
problem at all, I think it is. I think bringing dog to workplace could cause distraction for the
employees, and disrespectifull for others. First reason why Im against of bringing dogs to work
is because It may cause distraction for the employees. Dogs are always active, which is mean a lot
of energy. They want to play most of the time, and go everywhere. For example, walking between
leggs, jumbing infront of people and laying down on disks is unconfortable for some people. Not
only that, some dogs bark at the slightest noise, and other chew, whine, nip, and jump on people. Its
not good for the company to have situation like that. Another reason

Greek and Roman Concepts of Citizenship and Government The definition of citizenship in Greek
and Roman cultures can be described much differently than the current democratic definition of
contemporary nations. The Roman Empire differed from the Athenian Amphictyony and the
Assyrian Empire as well as the sunder later emperors such as Vespasian. There were also structural
problems within the government of the Roman Empire. This paper will explore the models of
government and citizenship that Ancient Roman and Greek peoples employed along with how well
they worked.

called a republic. A republic is a type of government that expects an active role from every
citizen, not just the politicians in power. Each citizen was responsible for electing representatives
that would rule on their behalf. The citizens were the focus of the Roman Republic. The status of
a citizen evolved dramatically throughout the Roman Republic. All males over 15 that were true
descendants of the original tribe became citizens ( Ancient Civilizations , 2014). Full citizens of
Rome had many privileges such as voting, practicing commerce, holding public office, and
marrying freeborn citizens to name a few. Some citizens that were not considered full citizens
maintained some rights, but could not vote or hold office. A third type of citizen could not hold
office or marry free born women but could practice commerce and vote. Citizens rights would
change throughout the Roman republic, but the republic aspect did not change. An important
aspect of the Roman Government was the Senate. The Senate was first set up as a group of 100,
then later the Roman Kings expanded the group to 300 ( Ancient Civilizations , 2014). The senate
convened and passed laws and practiced skills that would help to persuade ruling bodies. The

Irrational Love In A Midsummer Night s Dream
Irrational Love, Dreams, and a Positive Ending The lines between reality and fantasy and love
and reason may be thinner than once thought, at least according to Shakespeare. In a Midsummer
Night s dream, Shakespeare uses dreams, contrast, and a play within a play to convey the
irrationality of love while providing insight to dreams. Shakespeare uses dreams throughout the
play to contrast reality and fantasy, and also to express the importance and usefulness of them.
Dreams are important because they can provide insight, but it s up to the dreamer to make them
useful. I have had a dream, past the wit of man to say what / dream it was. Man is but an ass if he
go about t expound this dream, (IV.i.200 201). Bottom illustrates the importance... Show more

The contrast between the woods and the city is a further extension of the contrast between reality
and fantasy, but extends to the contrast between order and disorder. Ultimately, the play juxtaposes
antithetical value systems represented by the forest and the city contrasting the chaotic, volatile
disorder of the unknown with the orderly, stable, rational order of civilized life and implicitly
encouraging viewers through the characters behavior to reject the irrational world of dreams,
(Rhan). When the characters became confused about what reality and fantasy was they illustrated
the contrast between the woods and the city. The contrast between reason and passion is displayed
throughout the play to show the irrationality of love. Lord, what fools these mortals be! (III. ii.
115). Puck notes the lovers irrationality which he believes is caused by their foolishness. Lovers
and madmen have such seething brains, Such shaping fantasies, that apprehend More than cool
reason ever comprehends, (V.i.5 7). This conveys the contrast between reason and love and
juxtaposes lovers to madmen, because love blocks out reason and causes people to behavior as
such. Shakespeare depicts love as a power that controls us from the outside; passion is not subject
to the will or reason, (Leithart). The use of contrast throughout the play juxtaposes love with

Sustainability Reporting Of The United States
Abstract
Sustainability reporting in the United States is still a work in progress. While more countries
around the world are requiring companies to report the effects of their business activities as part of
their annual report, this practice is still voluntary in the US. Even though sustainability reporting is
not required, companies generally disclose sustainable information on their websites or through
social media. Being social responsible builds a certain type of bond that brings internal and external
stakeholders together.
Many companies in the US have taken action and developed their corporate governance model that
will meet their needs as well as the needs of the people around them, thus creating a better
environment for shareholders and stakeholders. Currently, most companies that issue sustainability
reporting follow the Global Reporting Initiative (GRI) standards guidelines. The GRI standards are
designed to achieve transparency, and it has become the most common set of standards used
amongst organizations for sustainability reporting.
This research paper was written with the purpose of providing some answers as to why
sustainability reporting in the United States should be mandated by regulators. The paper briefly
describes the GRI standards and guidelines, the benefits of sustainability reporting, some relative
advantages limitations in adopting sustainability reporting, as well as provides a few examples of
companies that have successfully adopted

Essay on Offshore Drilling
Offshore Drilling
What is it?
Drilling for oil in the ocean is one of the greatest technological breakthroughs in recent decades,
and many new techniques have been developed to profit from the abundance of oil underneath the
ocean floor. While drilling for oil has been around for hundreds of years in one form or the another,
the effective extraction of petroleum from beneath the sea floor did not surface until the last forty
years. The search for oil often turns out to be unproductive, but this practice is vital for the
economic future of many nations.
In order for any drilling to take place, an offshore drilling rig must first be installed. These offshore
platforms can be situated in water up to a several hundred meters in depth. ... Show more content on

These production platforms come in a variety of sizes, shapes, and types, which are dependent on
the dimensions of the field, the depth of the water and how far the oil and/or gas field is from shore.
The platforms are generally made of steel and fixed to the seabed with steel posts. These platforms
harbor all of the processing equipment for the well and can house a maximum of 80 workers. In
addition, platforms have concrete structures large enough to store oil, with gravity keeping them
situated on the seabed
Explanation of Drilling
Drilling begins once the drill bit is lowered to the ocean floor. This first step is referred to as
spudding.
There are two types of drill bits: (1) a roller cone or rock bit which usually has three cones armed
with steel or tungsten carbide teeth or buttons; or (2) a diamond bit, imbedded with small
industrial diamonds. The drill bit is attached to drill pipe and rotated by a turntable on the platform
floor. As the hole deepens, extra lengths of drill pipe are attached. (Offshore Drilling)
The diameter of the drill bit varies from a diameter of 36 inches, which is used when the hole in
the ocean floor is first started, to a diameter of 8.5 inches. The total length of a drill pipe is 30 feet.
The time it takes for the drill to reach the oil and gas trap could be weeks.
In order to move the drill cuttings

The essay What s in a Name? written by Lini Kadaba was published on December 7th, 1997 in the
Philadelphia Inquirer. Kadaba s essay is rooted in exemplification. She utilizes the framework of
names, specifically surnames that were changed during the immigration process, to showcase
examples of Americans that had previously immigrated to the United States and successfully
assimilated. Kadaba then chronicles those Americas quest over time to regain and reconnect with
some of their own culture and learn more about their ethnic roots. In many cases Lini Kadaba found
that those Americans were changing their surnames back to versions more closely resembling their

Relationship Between People And Environment
What is the relationship between people and the environment?
Wesley Jean
Florida Gulf Coast University
Undergraduate Studies Fall 2017 IDS 3920 CRN 80335
To emulate the relationship between people and the environment, I find it best to consider
Newton s third law of motion which states; For every action, there is an equal and opposite
reaction. Meaning that for every change made in nature, there will be an inevitable change in
mankind a theory that can easily be proven justifiable. There are a myriad of examples that proves
a linear relationship between people and the environment some for the good and unfortunately
some for the worse. However, in an effort to illustrate and thoroughly explain the dynamic
relationship between people and the environment, I will provide research on what I view as the
three most distinguished areas where the nature of our relationship can not be ignored. These topics
include our effects on other species, climate, and collectively vegetation and landscape. To begin,
over the course of history human activities have drastically changed or destroyed the natural
habitats that are essential to the survival of plants and animals. We have been known to pollute
habitats, hunt and kill animals illegally, and our trivial need to fulfill our aches for luxurious
lifestyle often has the side effect and disrespecting home and resources of other species that we
share the plant Earth with. Our human population is multiplying at an alarming rate

The Effects Of Political Using Maps
The Effects of Political Using Maps Maps hold their own great power. Knowing where people,
goods, and ideas are is of immeasurable value. As most powers of this magnitude are, the
government has a say in it, regulating and producing them. The government s involvement with
maps is undeniable, especially our own. The question is how well they put their ability to use. Are
outcomes favorable for the citizens? Are politicians or governments benefitted from misuse of maps
more often than not? While many are skeptical of governments actions, they primarily use maps to
bring about good change. In an age in which international affairs and the economy take precedence
over many other issues, it is an encouraging sign that maps are not completely... Show more content

However, officials even went a step beyond to guarantee the miners safety. Pennsylvania state
representatives Arlen Specter and Tim Murphy, interested in the practice s safety, spoke highly of
robots developed by the Carnegie Mellon University computer science team that would help map
mines accurately. Specter is quoted as saying Had this technology been utilized in advanced...those
miners would not have had their lives threatened (Spice 2002). With further research and
development, officials hoped to push the technology to use. With the inclusion of this source in
conjunction with the report on the incident itself, one can see how once the problem occurred,
officials actively sought out solutions. This situation showcases an event in which the government
used maps, in this case problematic ones, to help bring about positive change. A similar situation
involving flood maps took place, coincidentally, on the east coast as well. For brief context, New
York Senator Charles Schumer challenged FEMA (Federal Emergency Management Agency

improve the methods they use to draw flood maps. Municipalities started noticing inaccuracies in
the existing maps, which prompted Schumer s actions. Besides the general danger involved with
inaccurate mapping of flood zones, it can be financially costly to residents. From Senator Schumer

African American Racial Tension
The history in the United States, has created several issues weather it involves, women s rights,
politics, or the wars that Americas have fought in. However, the issue that has caused the most
conflict throughout the years in the United States is racial tension. Racial tension was first created
in the United States, when the citizens of Europe decided that they no longer wished to do their
own labor, and instead they went to Africa and stole and enslaved the individuals of that country.
However, after several years of despicable events, the Africans who were enslaved were now free
by law. Converting from once being a slave to now wanting to be treated as in equal in the United

The rioters could not be controlled. Throughout the riots, majority of the attacks were being
caused by white civilians, who were forming mobs of fifty plus members to go around town and
torment or kill black civilians. These mobs were assaulting the blacks in the community by
stabbing them, shooting them, or beating them up. And a lot of the violence that these mobs were
causing usually resulted in the death of several blacks. The blood that was shed, only increased
the violence and anger throughout the city of Chicago. This created an engagement for the black
communities to begin to attack the white community members back, harming them as well. Near
the end of the five days of the riot, approximately 500 Chicagoans of both races were injured.
Leaving 16 blacks, and 15 whites dead. The riots in Chicago in 1919, should not have come as a
surprise in Americas history. This is due to the racial violence and racial tension between blacks and
whites that has occurred throughout the years. The race riot in Chicago was not the only riot that
had taken place in America. In fact, there were 26 total race riots throughout the United States. For
instance, during the 1800s there were race riots in New York, Cincinnati, Ohio, and Philadelphia
just to name a few. These riots were said to be triggered by the interracial labor conflict. Since
African Americans wanted better lives for themselves and their

interconnections between various components and as well provides mechanical support to the
components. The components are soldered to the PCB. The quality of the soldering directly
affects the reliability of the circuit. The procedure for fabricating the PCB for any general

technique. The making of PCB essentially involves two steps. Preparing the PCB drawing
Fabricating the PCB itself from the drawing. 7.2 PCB DRAWING Making of PCB drawing
involves some preliminary considerations such as placement of components, locating holes,
deciding the diameters of various holes, the optimum area that each component should occupy,
the shape and size of pads for the components, track size and spacing, full space utilization and
prevention of overcrowding of components at a particular area etc. There is no other way to
arrive the conclusion than by trial and error. With these details the sketch of the PCB is made.
7.3 PCB FABRICATION The fabrication of the PCB starts with transferring the PCB drawing

For instance, an certain individual I know very well has only experienced the death of one
individual they were close with in their entire lifetime. On the other hand, I have been affected
by the passing of loved ones since I can remember. Case in point, just over the past couple of
years I have lost upwards of 8 people I was very close with. Furthermore, I currently have three

rodents. As time passed, chemistry and the improvement of industrial techniques have created many
potent compounds which have useful applications both in agriculture and human health. However,
developmental progress comes with risks and unforeseen consequences. The correlation between
the introduction of pesticides into our environment, and the subsequent environmental impacts has
implicated toxic substances in the damage of ecosystems and health concerns. In ... Show more

However, it appeared that many of these toxic chemicals were ubiquitous in society during the time
early in the 20th century and the regulation of manufacturing products was lacking, leading to a
glut of various mislabeled products and false claims. This included pesticides and the government
found that upon closer examination of the products that many were found to be falsely advertising
both quantity and effect of their pesticides. This led up to the development of the Federal Insecticide
Act (FIA) in 1910, aimed at protecting farmers from spraying products which were ineffective or
harmful to their crops. Many pesticides became much more common after the Second World
War, in which, due to various research projects identified controlling disease transmission to
soldiers as a possible side benefit of chemicals developed for warfare. Development of many
pesticides did occur before World War II, but it was only after their use in the war that they
became more commonplace (Finnegan 1989). As crop yields increased and disease from insect
vectors became less common due to the use of available pesticides, farmers and politicians began to
push for increased usage of pesticides, tripling their manufacture

Examples Of Analogy In Teaching
1.0 Introduction
Definition: An analogy is a comparison between one thing and another, usually for the purpose of
explanation or interpretation. It is similar to metaphor and simile; they are usually used in
conversation to relate one situation to other.
According to (Heick, 2014) other than conversational analogy there are analogies, which are
formal analogies, used in teaching. They usually are called academic analogies. These analogies
are the research based tool for teaching in science class rooms. It can also be used in text books
and web based learning environment. Analogy can be used to explain concepts effectively to the
students, which makes sense of the concepts to the students. This also helps them to understand
easily than normal explanation. Especially, the students from primary and lower primary are
getting to know of the science concept for the first time. Analogies make the subject interesting to
the students from the age group of 5 to 12. In Maldives, National Institute of Education has
implemented key stage 1 and 2 for the classes from grade 1 to 5 fully, with the help of analogy
teachers can easily make the students to make their ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The aware idea is called the analog and the unaware one the target. The analog and the target have
attributes; if the analog and the target have similar features then an analogy may be made between
them. An orderly comparison, orally or visually, between the features of the analog and target is
called a mapping. A theoretical illustration of an analogy, with its essential parts, appears in Figure

During the allied invasion of France in WWII, American general George Patton said I would rather
have a German division in front of me, than a French division behind me . Throughout history
comparisons have been made between Germany and France, and rightly so, these two countries are
the powerhouses of Europe, very little can be accomplished on the continent without their support.
France and Germany share not only a border but common aspects of their political systems. They
are both bicameral, constitutional republics with centralized national governments. But in recent
years the French political system has become stuck in gridlock while Germany continues to move
ahead and pass legislation. The critical difference between these two countries lies in the way they
organize their parliaments and electoral systems, as well as the use of coalition governments.
The current French political system was developed in 1958, with the creation of the fifth republic,
which was introduced by Charles de Gaulle. The purpose of the new constitution of the fifth
republic was to increase the power of the president while decreasing the power of parliament. Since
the establishment of the fifth republic France has held mostly a two party system leading to many

Summary Of Marrying Absurd
In Marrying Absurd , Joan Didion illustrates the nonsensical circus that marriage in Las Vegas is.
The city makes the ceremony of marriage out to be the clown at the circus, and there is no
respect for it. Using Las Vegas and its dysfunctional behavior as its backdrop, Didion was able to
cleverly ridicule marriageas an institution and the wedding industry as a whole. She was able to
say that if marriage was allowed in the city where Dressing Rooms, Flowers, Rings , and other
services were a common staple, then there was something wrong with the institution as a whole.
Didion effectively argued that unrealistic expectations were just used as a cash cow for the wedding
industry and the Strip chapels . Throughout the essay, Didion

The Neanderthal
The Neanderthal: An Overview Most people have heard of the Neanderthal, but there is a
disconnect in how people understand this ancestor or cousin to modern man. The history, anatomy,
culture and genetics of Neanderthal Man shed light on the relationship between this species and our
own. This essay considers the Neanderthalman in terms of its evolutionary history, anatomy, and
culture, investigating the genetic relationship of this speciesto Homo sapiens sapiens, or modern
man. The essay pays special attention to the evidence offered for the Neanderthal s existence and
evolution, ultimately concluding that very little is actually known, though a preponderance of
evidence exists for ongoing research and analysis.

Agent Based Models ( Abm )
Agents Based Models (ABM) A model is a representation of a real system and thus, it is an
abstraction of the reality 4. The word modeling comes from the Latin word modellus which
describes a typical human way of coping with the reality (Schichl, n.d.). Models can take various
forms such as mathematical equation, drawing, computer code, etc. However, there is a common
purpose of all designed models, which is to simplify the complexity presented in the real system
or problem. Therefore, models usually contain only the main aspects of the real system (not all
details). Macal and North (2006) believe that There is no universal agreement on the precise
definition of the term agent , although definitions tend to agree on more points than they disagree .
It seems very complicated to extract agent characteristics from the literature in a consistent and
constant perspective, because they are utilised in different ways (Bonabeau 2002). Agent based
modelling (ABM) is able to simulate the individual activities by measuring their behaviour and
results over time for developing models of cities (Crooks 2006). Agent based modeling and
simulation (ABMS) is a new approach to modeling systems comprised of autonomous, interacting
agents. Agent based modeling is a new analytical method for the social sciences, but one that is
quickly becoming popular. ABMS promises to have far reaching effects on the way that businesses
use computers to support decision making and researchers use

Foreign Powers Influence On China
1900s China saw a century of fluctuating development and progress, which is recognised through
various political, economic and social changes. The early division of the period encountered some
change for the country yet this was not as significant as the latter change in which China s political
landscape metamorphosed into one of total contrast to the former. Foreign intervention was of
course a reason and usually the root cause for the changes that occurred, particularly in the first half
of the century until 1962 whereby there were still some minor influences by the foreigners but
other factors seemed to have caused these later changes. It could be deduced that yes, foreign
powers did have a significant influence over the transformation... Show more content on

It is in fact plausible that foreign intervention played a role in influencing some of the change
between 1900 1912. The introduction of such heavily influenced western reforms resulted in further
hatred of the foreign occupiers and thus sparking the launch of an anti westerners campaign, known
as the Boxer Rebellion. Consequences of tighter western controls took place, including further
foreign presence and involvement, which was explicit in the humiliating imposition of punitive
measures. These sanctions consisted of a $450 million reparation, weaponry destroyed and the
permanent stationing of foreign troops in and around Beijing. The punishments brought about an
atmosphere of utter embarrassment and fear but also encouraged a lack of distrust in the Manchus;
the event validated the imperial government s incapability to lead China to liberation. Although the
financial cost caused some apprehension, it didn t amount to economic turmoil the penalties
actually caused a change in the nation s perception towards the Manchu dynasty as opposed to an
economic transformation. The reparations led the Chinese to have an increasingly negative stance
towards the dynasty, diminishing any respect the imperial rulers upheld.
The greatest political change in the period actually seemed to have occurred in reaction to the
Wuhan Uprising. Much to China s disgust, the Manchus acquired a monetary loan from the West in
order to nationalise the railways, and

Joan of Arc and the Siege of Orleans Essay
Between 1428 and 1429 during the Hundred Years War between France and England, the city of
Orleans was besieged by English forces. The 5000 English soldiers lead by Thomas de Montecute,
attacked for months. Around this time, Joan of Arc Appeared in at the court of Charles, and lifted
the siege in 1429. This was the major turning point for the French in the war.
The events leading up to the Siege of Orleans were mainly victories for the English. The French
were attacking land which King Edward III, the king of England, owned in France. He declares
himself King of France, arguing that he can legally claim the French throne through the line of

A few years later, Henry V landed in France with ten thousand men and besieged Harfleur, a port
town along the French coast. The siege lasted for a month, and Henry marched into the town,
victorious, with very few men, because most of them died from disease. He then set course for
Calais, but was stopped by French forces in Agincourt. Henry had only about six thousand men
and the French force had twenty thousand. Henry used the woodland to give his forces a better
chance. The French, on the other hand, set up three lines with knights in front. The knights were
easily taken down by English longbowmen, the second line was slowed down by muddy
swampland, and the third line retreated. This was a decisive victory for Henry and his
outnumbered army. Henry continued advancing to Calais. Next, Scottish and French armies join
forces and raid English holdings in Normandy. The English forces were decimated by the
combined forces of France and Scotland. Soon after that battle, The French and Scottish tried once
more to remove English control of Normandy, but their forces were easily cut down by
longbowmen. Scotland stopped aiding France in the war, and England kept their hold in
Normandy. The English started to take control of most of France again, started winning more

The Life Of The World By Fr. Alexander Schmemann
For the Life of the World authored by Fr. Alexander Schmemann an Orthodox priest was originally
intended as a study guide in the 1970 s for students preparing themselves for Missionary work,
giving them a world view , helping to speak about Christian view points along with an approach to
how they coalesce through the eyes of the Orthodox Church. A key theme Fr. Schmemann
discussed is Secularism, which he believes developed from our progressive alienation of the
Christian culture. Additionally, he presents his interpretation of the transforming biblical themes of
creation, fall, and redemption through a sacramental understanding. Fr. Schmemann s experiences
within the Orthodox Church liturgy reveal unity in the meanings of these three themes. It is
through these understandings he believes can effectively offset the disastrous effects of secularism
while revitalizing the sacramental understanding of the world. The author divided the book into
seven chapters, each building upon one another; The Life of the world, The Eucharist, The Time of
Mission, Of Water and the Spirit, The Mystery of Love, Trampling Down death by death, and Ye
Are Witnesses of These Things. Moreover, two Appendices follow the chapters: Worship in a
Secular Age and Sacraments and Symbol. In particular, Fr. Schmemann opens by converging on the
ostensibly minor theme of nourishment, even quoting famed philosopher Ludwig Feuerbach s
phrase. Man is what he eats. Anti religious groups attempt to portray

Regardless of whether one is purchasing goods, deciding a financial plan for oneself, figuring

Examples Of First Impressions In The Great Gatsby
First impressions are considered to be very important because of the impulsive behavior that the
human race as adopted. The first humans may have utilized this behavior to set it apart from

colorful cover to trigger that instinct as well. But the headline or cover does not indicate the

Police Shootings And Police Brutality
The topic that has my interest would be police shooting and how much it has gotten worse over
the years. Thiers a lot of questions asked when it comes to police shootings/police brutality. The
first thing that the media always brings up is did the person deserve to be shot or was the person
shooting at the police, in which case two valid questions but the fact the cops shoot to kill it
appears in many police shooting they will usually shoot at the body of the person, they aren t
likely to shoot at your legs or a place that won t automatically cause death. The reason this is a
concern is because I believe the African Americancommunity is targeted more than any other
ethnic group in America, they are more searched than any other ethnic group it causes fear with
the community and this also makes the police job harder, because now they will be more trigger
happy to shoot someone in a slight move they make. A big media case from last year was shown
an African American man helping his patience that left his care, while this was going on the man
was laying down with his hands up telling the cops I am just trying to help my patience within 2
minutes the policeman shoots at the unarmed man injuring him, but lucky the man survived. The
strange part of this shooting was that the police was 20 foot from the man that they shot, which

Human Activity And Climate Change
HUMAN ACTIVITY AND CLIMATE CHANGE
WILLIAM WRIGHT
GRANTHAM UNIVERSITY
In this paper I will discuss Human Activity and Climate Change. I will discuss different human
activities that might affect climate change, things such as the burning of fossil fuels and how they
might contribute to climate change. To begin I will discuss what the definition of climate change.
Climate change is the change in the atmosphere by the amounts of carbon dioxide levels that come
from using fossil fuels. Climate change can occur when the Earth s atmosphere become warmer
than what it naturally should be. Affects that can happen from climate change is extreme weather
change which can cause flooding in areas that it has not flooded before as well as drought and
glaciers to melt as well as cause the environment to change. A lot of climate change is directly due
to human activity; one of the activities that humans have done is released large amount of carbon
dioxide in the atmosphere which is a greenhouse gas that comes from burning fossil fuels.
Greenhouse gases have wrapped around the earth s surface like an extra blanket causing the Earth
to heat up much more and affecting the balance of nature. Greenhouse gases are not only limited
to large factories but also the amount of vehicles on the road; cars produce carbon dioxide as well.
History has shown that the choices that we make can affect us on a large scale to include changing
our environment as well as our climate.

for a permanent solution like suicide often suffer from depression after they have repressed their
emotions for long periods of time. Suicide has become the third leading cause of death amongst
young individuals. Suicide methods may differ depending on the gender. Woman are commonly

The Civil Service Act Of Public Administration
The Pendleton Civil Service Act s purpose is to award federal government jobs to individuals based
off merit, rather than cronyism or nepotism. In the context of public administration, this law has
established benchmarks for the field of public administration, but it does not go without its
disadvantages. This act bred performance managementapplication in the public administration
community by establishing tests and performance measurements that certainly outweigh the
nature of providing government jobs due to party affiliation The act inherently eliminates a
disadvantageous federal job market, and seeks to benefit those who can perform to the
standards of the position. The benefits of this system outweigh its detriments, but I seek to
examine how this system works today, and if its initial purpose was carried on.Cronyism, the act
of giving jobs to friends and political affiliates, and nepotism, the act of giving jobs to family
members, are dangerous because they create a system based off status, and not merit. The
system this country had before the Pendleton Act was known as the spoils [or patronage]
system. This prior system awarded jobs to people based off cronyism and nepotism. While it
may seem harmless to award jobs in the political realm to people with close ties to a winning
candidate, the primary focus of those positions should stem from performance. An example of the

Literary Allusion In Fahrenheit 451, By Ray Bradbury
It was a pleasure to burn (Bradbury 1). At the start of Fahrenheit 451 by Ray Bradbury, published
by Simon Schuster Paperbacks, comes one of the most iconic introductory phrases in literary
culture. At the moment of reading it, this line is interpreted to be an expression of the thrill that
came with the act of lighting a fire as Montag does his job to burn illegal books. However, by the
end, it is possible to say that this line has a different meaning altogether. In a time where censorship
and other forms of oppression were on the rise, Bradbury wrote his work to speak out against a
strong government, preserving freedom for the individual. Through the use of allusions, he grounds
Fahrenheit 451in reality, calling the themes of the novel into question in the present as much as they
were in the time when the novel was written. Through the world of his story, Bradbury makes a
statement about a potential path society could take, destroying freedom of thought and individual
expression, becoming nothing less than a dystopialike the one in Montag s world. Bradbury uses
both Biblical and literary allusions to reinforce his themes, ensuring the audience can apply his
ideas to the world around them. Bradbury makes his use of Biblical allusions quite clearly in the
novel, referencing multiple well known books and passages with specific emphasis on
Ecclesiastes, using many of the allusions largely towards the end of the novel. Montag reads the
passage from Matthew 6:28 while

The Homelessness Problem Of Homelessness
Homelessness has been an sociological issue for a very long time now. It seems to be a rising
issue all over the country. Here in the Portland, Oregon area, we are very lucky. This is a
wonderful place to live. Socially, we accept everyone no matter what you look like or believe in.
Our mantra is Keep Portland Weird. Honestly, from a sociological standpoint, there are not that
many issues, however there is one that is growing and is becoming a major problem. In Portland,
we have a major homelessnessproblem. On top of the homeless issues there is a growing
indifference towards the homeless issue from the rest of the population. People just do not
seem to care about the homeless here in Portland. We see them so much it is almost like we are
used to them and we do not think about it. We just walk right by, indifferent. Some are annoyed
by the homeless here, most seem to act like they are invisible. The homeless are people too, they
should be treated with dignity. In the past year or so, around 2 million people were left
homeless and this is sure to continue to rise over the next few years. No one really knows why
this is the way it is. Some factors that could cause homelessness are losing a job, not being able
to find a job, low wages, too many bills, various disabilities, and lack of affordable housing and
help. The term homelessness means people who do not have a home. The issue needs to be looked
at in many different angles. Homelessness can be looked at through the eyes

Infrastructure Of Infrastructure And Infrastructure
Infrastructure
We are constantly surrounded by infrastructure assets. Infrastructure consists of all the assets that
countries require to enable its daily operations and orderly functions. Transportation, energy,
communications and water, are some of the infrastructure assets that serve as the backbone to our
society. While traveling this summer with my family, I realized just how far behind the U.S. is
compared to other parts of the world when it is considered one of the most advanced countries in
the world. I thought to myself... Why hasn t the U.S. invested in such projects? China spends 7%
of its GDP on infrastructure and India spends 5%. The U.S. spends just over 3%. As a result, U.S.
infrastructure now ranks 14th globally according to the World Economic Forum s infrastructure
index.
In the current economic environment where interest rates are low and unemployment remains
elevated, a logical solution to stimulate growth would be to build, modernize, or replace our
infrastructure. Every 4 years, the American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE) releases a Report

infrastructure. In 2013, the United States infrastructure grade was a D+. Although we recognize
the report is a little self serving, the statistics behind their research is compelling. According to the

ever perfect. And if so why don t we accept our wrongness, ignore or even get embarrassed by it.
Schulz says that we have been taught perfection all the way back to grade school, and that if we

Barger feels that being wrong is just human nature, and that no matter how intelligent or what
position you hold in society you will not always be right.
Barger explains his personally connection of why he believes in uncertainty. He is an evangelical
Christian and a pastor, that struggled to accept the fact that he is gay since it was against the
fundamentals of his religion. He was so certain that he wasn t homosexual for years but in the
process he was actually hurting himself. Barger tells us that his belief in uncertainty is becoming
greater due to all the certainty around him, for example religious leaders or members are very
certain that their actions whether it be acts of terrorism or war will guarantee their place in
heaven or with their gods. Certainty can drive people to do crazy things and to Barger it can
almost be like your mind is in a prison, but just the simple act of being uncertain can make a man a
better person.
Ted Gup author of the essay In Praise of the Wobblies was someone who always stood in the
middle, never really took either side of an argument. He felt like he was in no man s land even
though he agreed and disagreed with both sides he always tried to look and find his place. He
describes to us an incident during an internship interview, how he was surrounded by people that
knew everything there was about the topics they were given to explain but he stood right in the
middle, he knew not too much but not too little. Thinking

How Public Health-Related Policies Are Affected By Climate...
In these three articles, it is said that the The introduction of public health related policies may be
a few years off, as most efforts are currently focused on research, planning, and communication
between federal and state agencies (The Baffling Nexus of Climate Change and Health). This
shows that we need to take into account that things are changing and we may not have any
control over but we need to look out for the well being of people in today s society. For example,
infectious diseases, waterborne and foodborne pathogens are all public health concerns and can be
affected by climate change. We can do anything about climatechange it s essentially out of our
hands and nevertheless, it is something that we need to focus on because it is causing detrimental
results to all of us globally. The West Nile virus is a good example because it refers to a particular
region in Uganda and is now... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
It makes it difficult to attain plans of action because for the most part we essentially don t know
what the results are since every disease is different we just need to be more aware of the world
around us. Climate change is expected to increase nonetheless public health officials are integrating
information about climate change into disaster relief and response tactics. Another challenge is
linking the connection of weather patterns to health effects. For example, Hurricane Sandy had
more than sixty billion dollars in damages in New York and New Jersey alone and this number
doesn t include health care costs which were another fourteen billion dollars. All in all, health and
climate change are needed to be more closely linked together and are in a shift towards that
direction. This is because public health officials are taking climate change into consideration when

Bowenian Family Systems Therapy Summary
One of the main approaches that can be used with this family is Bowenian s Family Systems
Therapy which emphasizes helping family members differentiate from their family of origin and
help them to develop healthy relationships with their current family members (Hook, 2014). One of
the assumptions of this theory is that multi generational trends or pattern have a great effect on an
individual familymember s emotions, thinking or behavior, which results in the continuing the same
trend. Families do not act autonomously, but they are essentially tied with their emotional behavior.
This is known as the multigenerational transmission process (Gilbert, 2006). The primary goal of
this therapy is to help family members differentiate from their family... Show more content on

The client had reported these patterns to be considered to be generational curses , which implies
that the family does not want to continue in these patterns. These instances can be viewed as
traumatic events and negatively impacted the emotional well being of the members in the family.
For this approach, the genogram is viewed as an essential intervention for allowing family to
recognize intergenerational patterns (Hook, 2015). During session with the family, the genogram
could help the family to open up about their sexual abuse and how it was dealt with the past.
They can also process their feelings of having to raise children on their own. By identifying these
patterns, that family could look for potential solutions or options for breaking or avoiding this risk
factor. Since the client reported that sexual abuse is not really expressed in her family, it is
assumed that the family members affected by this experience have unresolved issues and unhealthy
emotional connections. The family session could be used for the family members to process those
emotions and develop new positive

Seattle Pitting Research Paper
On March 23, 1954, Seattle newspapers reported citizens finding pits and glass bubbles within
their car windshields at a town 80 miles from Seattle. Police investigated and initially brushed it
off as vandalism, albeit without much proof. It did not seem like a serious case, after all...until
more reports of similar damages popped up on April 14th from another town 65 miles away, and on
that same evening, in Seattle itself. Hundreds of people phoned Seattle police between the 14th and
15th, reporting the same pittings and dings in their windshields. Seattle citizens entered a state of
confusion and paranoia, to the point where the mayor had begun to look to President Eisenhower
for help when not even the police could find the cause for this.... Show more content on

Such dire sounding headlines only fueled the people s fear of nuclear war more. Upon hearing
news of the affected fishermen and the sheer power of such H bombs, people began to fear not
only of other countries, like Soviet Russia, planning to develop similar, if not more destructive
hydrogen bombs, but American bomb testings affecting them. Following atmospheric testing of
hydrogen bombs in 1954, people in and around Seattle, Washington began to report mysterious
pitting damage to auto windshields. [...] The incident was shortly followed by a nationwide rush
to buy fallout shelter plans (Miller 136) The H bomb testings seemingly spelling doom, according
to 1950s media, did not help survival plans make people feel any safer, either. The film, Duck and
Cover, was shown to schoolchildren beginning in 1950. The cartoon turtle, the cheerful theme song,
and the practical advice were supposed to reassure children who might worry about an atomic
attack. Instead, the images of little Johnny diving off his bicycle convinced children that the bombs
could fall at any moment and gave them nightmares (Walbert). The 1950s was a time where many
were scared of being under nuclear attack, children and adults alike. Thus, the unexplainable
windshield pittings in Seattle had people easily jumping to a conclusion of nuclear fallout being
behind the pittings. Those in Seattle who were in support of this view ... claimed that they found

Australia is a beautiful yet harsh country, the environment itself is well known for its aroid beauty
as well as the tourist attractions like Uluru or the Sydney Harbor Bridge. Australia is one of the
many countries that are able to celebrate and advertise being a diverse community, because we are
so multicultural it is a factor that brings us closer together as a society. We can see how accepting
Australian citizens are through events such as Australiaday because everyone of all different races,

The World Will End in 2010 According to the Mayan Calendar...
There has been many predictions about when the world will end or how it would end but no one
believes it and no one knew whether they true or not. This time is true and you have to believe
it. Now there are more and more information to support Mayans prediction. According to the
Mayan s calculation the longest calender only goes up to December 21,2009. It takes a long
time in order for a calendar to go through one cycle. The longest cycle takes 26,000 years and the
shortest cycle takes 5,000 years. Now our cycle is about to end, and once this cycle is complete
everything will start over again.

Now you have to believe it, there is more evidence and fact to support the prediction of Mayans.
Many scientists also agree to this prediction because on December 21, 2012, the earth and sun will

Danaus Plexipus
The Decline of Danaus Plexippus The Danaus plexxippus, also known as the Monarch butterfly, is
spread all throughout North America during various parts of the year. In the summer they can
migrate as far north as Canada, and during the winter months they can migrate as far south as
Mexico. Because Monarchs cannot withstand low temperatures, they make use of different habitats
during summer and cold months. They spend the spring, summer and fall months in various
places throughout the United States and Canada, and they overwinter in central Mexico.
Monarchs lay their eggs on a species of plant known as a milkweed. Because of this, Monarchs
can be found wherever there is an abundance of milkweeds. Monarchs are very ecologically
important because they provide the service of pollination to many flowers and plants. While it is
true the bees are the more prolific pollinators, Monarch butterflies are... Show more content on

precipitation level, as the previous two seasons had only produced levels of 40 mm and 20 mm

in the Reserve core zone and scattered the butterflies from their bough and trunk clusters. The
storms also brought major flooding, landslide and structural damage to the area. What ultimately
led to the demise of 5 10% of the wetted butterflies was the drop in temperature. Fortunately, the
severe drop to 6 degrees Celsius occurred the second morning after the storm, after the butterflies
had dried. It is estimated that 90% of the Monarchs could have died had the drop taken place while

Nosferatu Essay
Response 1 Nosferatu
My experience watching a feature length silent film was very interesting, to say the least. I found it
amazing that they were able to tell a complete story on only visual elements. Nosferatu had many
similarities to A trip to the Moon by George Melies. Comparatively it had more storytelling
elements character development purely due to film length. I feel it would be very challenging to
produce such a complex story under the constraints of such a short film. I believe my experience
to be very typical of someone who has never watched a full length silent film, I was gripped with
curiosity on how this film would tell the great story of Dracula without the stereotypical screams
and jump scares that horror movies today bring to the screen. I feel like the film did a fantastic
job of telling the story with the limitations of being able to use sound. I will be very interested in
watching another full length silent film from that era to see the difference in writing and filming
styles. I would also be interested in re watching Nosferatu during the night time to see if that
elevates the experience of watching a horror in the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Nosferatu, however, focused heavily on the character s fear and and silent screams to set the tone
of the film. I did not feel that same level of terror among the gentlemen on the moon when the
aliens arrived.
The girl and her trust by D.W. Griffith felt like it achieved that sense of fear by using a choppy
film style to capture the desperate feeling the characters were having in their situation. The same
approach was used to develop the fear Hutter was having towards Nosferatu.
Overall, I found the experience a positive one and I greatly enjoyed being able to compare the
difference in film style to the current style of modern cinema. I will definitely be watching another

Literary Techniques Used In Beowulf
In the epic poem Beowulf , Beowulf himself used a variety of unique and smart methods and
ways to win and defeat the monster s that tormented Herrot. One method he used to defeat and
kill one of his enemies was with the element of surprise and with no weapon. Another method he
used to defeat and kill another one of his enemies was by going in right through the front door of
the enemy s lair. His method to that was originally thought of to kill his last enemy didn t work
out so well and had to get help from a loyal and brave warrior, Wiglaf. Beowulfwas constantly
changing his methods and strategy s to win the battles and obstacles that he was confronted with.
One method Beowulf used, to find and kill Grendel, was with the element of surprise and with his
bare hands. Beowulf s method and plan to kill Grendel was to lure him to him, surprise Grendel,
and finally, attack and kill Grendel. Beowulf lured in Grendel by staying in the Mead Hall,
where he knew Grendel would search for something to kill. Then, to get Grendel distracted, he
sacrificed one of his own warriors to get eaten so Grendel would have his focus on the warrior he
was eating and murdering. Finally, when Beowulf saw the perfect time to attack and kill Grendel,
he took it. Beowulf s method of luring and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

New York City Similarities
In the north and south of the United States, there are many differences in culture. The weather, the
population, and the economy are a few. They both have the same language but are spoken in two
different accents. You can always tell the difference between the two.
New York City is in the northern part of the United States and is considered the city that never
sleeps. It is also known as The Big Apple . People are walking the streets, eating at restaurants
and going to bars at all hours of the night. Tourist come to see the attractions and to go shopping.
There are many ways of transportation: train, bus, cab, car, or walking. Public transportation is
twenty four hours a day and seven days a week and is their main source of getting around town.
Housing is mostly apartments or condos that are for rent. Most people do not own their own
homes or own a vehicle, because they cannot afford it. The cost of living in New York Cityis more
expensive than most popular cities. The rent for a one bedroom apartment is around 3,000 an
month. Childcare is close to 2,000 an month. In order to maintain a comfortable lifestyle most
New Yorkers make close to 7,000 dollars a month. The population is 8,537,673 as of 2016 and as
many as 800 languages spoken there. People often keep to themselves and really have no time to
get to know each other, because it is a fast pace environment. It has the largest foreign born
population in the world and 61 million tourists go there for vacation. The

Behavior Reduction Exercise
My primary goal for the Follow Up Period of the Behavior Reduction Exercise was to maintain my
elimination of added (unnatural) sugars from my diet. I decided to continue the length of the
reduction exercise through Lent in the hopes that this exercise can facilitate acquiring a lifestyle
change. In other words, by continuing the length of this exercise, this behavior or restraint will
establish healthier eating habits, because added sugars had become such an unhealthy part of my
diet, and this healthy habit will hopefully assist me in establishing a permanent lifestyle change. I
also continued to try to adjust my alternative coping behaviors by adopting the practice of
meditation when I am stress (instead of nail biting or eating chocolate).... Show more content on

I was proud of myself for not having any lapses this period. I was also proud that my attitude was

availablilty and prevalence of sugary treats, I was less tempted or interested. The most intense
craving I had actually lasted several days, but it was brought about by the stress, frustration, and
disappointment of preparing and taking the CPCE exam. This craving was so intense that I
began going to extreme measures to satisfy the craving (i.e. trip to Fresh Market to get a bunch
of weird ingredients to make fruit sweetened brownies). In this process, I realized how ridiculous
I was being and was able to walk away from the store. This actually made the craving go away
when I realized how desperate I was being. I think that this craving gave me a small insight into
the situations drug addiction can create. That is to say, it helped me to understand that a craving
may not be momentary, but may last for days. In addition, it helped me to understand the lengths
one my go to in order to satisfy a craving. I think this has provided me with some

Spent nuclear fuel rods have a half life of nearly 30,000 years Depleted uranium will remain toxic for an estimated 4.5 million years. After decades of scientific research at locations like Yucca Mountain in Nevada, no one has figured out how and where to store the radioactive waste created by nuclear power generation. Energy Secretary Steven Chu recently admitted that he has no firm plans for the radioactive wastes created by the proposed new reactors, or by the 104 currently licensed. And according to CBS News, waste is currently leaking from a quarter of US nuclear power sites. I think bringing dog to workplace could cause distraction for the employees, and disrespectifull for others. First reason why Im against of bringing dogs to work is because It may cause distraction for the employees. Dogs are always active, which is mean a lot of energy. They want to play most of the time, and go everywhere. For example, walking between leggs, jumbing infront of people and laying down on disks is unconfortable for some people. Not only that, some dogs bark at the slightest noise, and other chew, whine, nip, and jump on people. Its not good for the company to have situation like that. Another reason ... Greek and Roman Concepts of Citizenship and Government Greek and Roman Concepts of Citizenship and Government Joe Wickenden, Sarah Dowling, Ginger Snyder, Leone Hansen HIS/341 October 27, 2014 Joel Getz Greek and Roman Concepts of Citizenship and Government The definition of citizenship in Greek and Roman cultures can be described much differently than the current democratic definition of contemporary nations. The Roman Empire differed from the Athenian Amphictyony and the Assyrian Empire as well as the sunder later emperors such as Vespasian. There were also structural problems within the government of the Roman Empire. This paper will explore the models of government and citizenship that Ancient Roman and Greek peoples employed along with how well they worked. Citizenship in ... A republic is a type of government that expects an active role from every citizen, not just the politicians in power. Each citizen was responsible for electing representatives that would rule on their behalf. The citizens were the focus of the Roman Republic. The status of a citizen evolved dramatically throughout the Roman Republic. All males over 15 that were true descendants of the original tribe became citizens ( Ancient Civilizations , 2014). Full citizens of Rome had many privileges such as voting, practicing commerce, holding public office, and marrying freeborn citizens to name a few. Some citizens that were not considered full citizens maintained some rights, but could not vote or hold office. A third type of citizen could not hold office or marry free born women but could practice commerce and vote. Citizens rights would change throughout the Roman republic, but the republic aspect did not change. An important aspect of the Roman Government was the Senate. The Senate was first set up as a group of 100, then later the Roman Kings expanded the group to 300 ( Ancient Civilizations , 2014). The senate convened and passed laws and practiced skills that would help to persuade ruling bodies. The Roman Empire was in a location that benefited the empire s defense against enemies. • 5. Irrational Love In A Midsummer Night s Dream Irrational Love, Dreams, and a Positive Ending The lines between reality and fantasy and love and reason may be thinner than once thought, at least according to Shakespeare. In a Midsummer Night s dream, Shakespeare uses dreams, contrast, and a play within a play to convey the irrationality of love while providing insight to dreams. Shakespeare uses dreams throughout the play to contrast reality and fantasy, and also to express the importance and usefulness of them. Dreams are important because they can provide insight, but it s up to the dreamer to make them useful. I have had a dream, past the wit of man to say what / dream it was. Man is but an ass if he go about t expound this dream, (IV.i.200 201). Bottom illustrates the importance... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The contrast between the woods and the city is a further extension of the contrast between reality and fantasy, but extends to the contrast between order and disorder. Ultimately, the play juxtaposes antithetical value systems represented by the forest and the city contrasting the chaotic, volatile disorder of the unknown with the orderly, stable, rational order of civilized life and implicitly encouraging viewers through the characters behavior to reject the irrational world of dreams, (Rhan). When the characters became confused about what reality and fantasy was they illustrated the contrast between the woods and the city. The contrast between reason and passion is displayed throughout the play to show the irrationality of love. Lord, what fools these mortals be! (III. ii. 115). Puck notes the lovers irrationality which he believes is caused by their foolishness. Lovers and madmen have such seething brains, Such shaping fantasies, that apprehend More than cool reason ever comprehends, (V.i.5 7). This conveys the contrast between reason and love and juxtaposes lovers to madmen, because love blocks out reason and causes people to behavior as such. Shakespeare depicts love as a power that controls us from the outside; passion is not subject to the will or reason, (Leithart). The use of contrast throughout the play juxtaposes love with ... • 6. Sustainability Reporting Of The United States Abstract Sustainability reporting in the United States is still a work in progress. While more countries around the world are requiring companies to report the effects of their business activities as part of their annual report, this practice is still voluntary in the US. Even though sustainability reporting is not required, companies generally disclose sustainable information on their websites or through social media. Being social responsible builds a certain type of bond that brings internal and external stakeholders together. Many companies in the US have taken action and developed their corporate governance model that will meet their needs as well as the needs of the people around them, thus creating a better environment for shareholders and stakeholders. Currently, most companies that issue sustainability reporting follow the Global Reporting Initiative (GRI) standards guidelines. The GRI standards are designed to achieve transparency, and it has become the most common set of standards used amongst organizations for sustainability reporting. This research paper was written with the purpose of providing some answers as to why sustainability reporting in the United States should be mandated by regulators. • 7. Essay on Offshore Drilling Offshore Drilling What is it? Drilling for oil in the ocean is one of the greatest technological breakthroughs in recent decades, and many new techniques have been developed to profit from the abundance of oil underneath the ocean floor. While drilling for oil has been around for hundreds of years in one form or the another, the effective extraction of petroleum from beneath the sea floor did not surface until the last forty years. The search for oil often turns out to be unproductive, but this practice is vital for the economic future of many nations. In order for any drilling to take place, an offshore drilling rig must first be installed. These offshore platforms can be situated in water up to a several hundred meters in depth. ... These production platforms come in a variety of sizes, shapes, and types, which are dependent on the dimensions of the field, the depth of the water and how far the oil and/or gas field is from shore. The platforms are generally made of steel and fixed to the seabed with steel posts. These platforms harbor all of the processing equipment for the well and can house a maximum of 80 workers. In addition, platforms have concrete structures large enough to store oil, with gravity keeping them situated on the seabed Explanation of Drilling Drilling begins once the drill bit is lowered to the ocean floor. This first step is referred to as spudding. There are two types of drill bits: (1) a roller cone or rock bit which usually has three cones armed with steel or tungsten carbide teeth or buttons; or (2) a diamond bit, imbedded with small industrial diamonds. The drill bit is attached to drill pipe and rotated by a turntable on the platform floor. As the hole deepens, extra lengths of drill pipe are attached. (Offshore Drilling) The diameter of the drill bit varies from a diameter of 36 inches, which is used when the hole in the ocean floor is first started, to a diameter of 8.5 inches. Kadaba then chronicles those Americas quest over time to regain and reconnect with some of their own culture and learn more about their ethnic roots. • 9. Relationship Between People And Environment What is the relationship between people and the environment? Wesley Jean Florida Gulf Coast University Undergraduate Studies Fall 2017 IDS 3920 CRN 80335 To emulate the relationship between people and the environment, I find it best to consider Newton s third law of motion which states; For every action, there is an equal and opposite reaction. Meaning that for every change made in nature, there will be an inevitable change in mankind a theory that can easily be proven justifiable. There are a myriad of examples that proves a linear relationship between people and the environment some for the good and unfortunately some for the worse. However, in an effort to illustrate and thoroughly explain the dynamic relationship between people and the environment, I will provide research on what I view as the three most distinguished areas where the nature of our relationship can not be ignored. These topics include our effects on other species, climate, and collectively vegetation and landscape. To begin, over the course of history human activities have drastically changed or destroyed the natural habitats that are essential to the survival of plants and animals. We have been known to pollute habitats, hunt and kill animals illegally, and our trivial need to fulfill our aches for luxurious lifestyle often has the side effect and disrespecting home and resources of other species that we share the plant Earth with. As most powers of this magnitude are, the government has a say in it, regulating and producing them. The government s involvement with maps is undeniable, especially our own. The question is how well they put their ability to use. Are outcomes favorable for the citizens? Are politicians or governments benefitted from misuse of maps more often than not? While many are skeptical of governments actions, they primarily use maps to bring about good change. However, officials even went a step beyond to guarantee the miners safety. Pennsylvania state representatives Arlen Specter and Tim Murphy, interested in the practice s safety, spoke highly of robots developed by the Carnegie Mellon University computer science team that would help map mines accurately. Specter is quoted as saying Had this technology been utilized in advanced...those miners would not have had their lives threatened (Spice 2002). With further research and development, officials hoped to push the technology to use. With the inclusion of this source in conjunction with the report on the incident itself, one can see how once the problem occurred, officials actively sought out solutions. This situation showcases an event in which the government used maps, in this case problematic ones, to help bring about positive change. A similar situation involving flood maps took place, coincidentally, on the east coast as well. For brief context, New York Senator Charles Schumer challenged FEMA (Federal Emergency Management Agency ) to improve the methods they use to draw flood maps. Municipalities started noticing inaccuracies in the existing maps, which prompted Schumer s actions. Besides the general danger involved with inaccurate mapping of flood zones, it can be financially costly to residents. From Senator Schumer s news ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

However, the issue that has caused the most conflict throughout the years in the United States is racial tension. Racial tension was first created in the United States, when the citizens of Europe decided that they no longer wished to do their own labor, and instead they went to Africa and stole and enslaved the individuals of that country. However, after several years of despicable events, the Africans who were enslaved were now free by law. The rioters could not be controlled. Throughout the riots, majority of the attacks were being caused by white civilians, who were forming mobs of fifty plus members to go around town and torment or kill black civilians. These mobs were assaulting the blacks in the community by stabbing them, shooting them, or beating them up. And a lot of the violence that these mobs were causing usually resulted in the death of several blacks. The blood that was shed, only increased the violence and anger throughout the city of Chicago. This created an engagement for the black communities to begin to attack the white community members back, harming them as well. Near the end of the five days of the riot, approximately 500 Chicagoans of both races were injured. Leaving 16 blacks, and 15 whites dead. The riots in Chicago in 1919, should not have come as a surprise in Americas history. This is due to the racial violence and racial tension between blacks and whites that has occurred throughout the years. The race riot in Chicago was not the only riot that had taken place in America. In fact, there were 26 total race riots throughout the United States. For instance, during the 1800s there were race riots in New York, Cincinnati, Ohio, and Philadelphia just to name a few. The procedure for fabricating the PCB for any general project is described below. 7.1 PCB MAKING Making of PCBs is as much as an art as a technique. The making of PCB essentially involves two steps. Preparing the PCB drawing Fabricating the PCB itself from the drawing. 7.2 PCB DRAWING Making of PCB drawing involves some preliminary considerations such as placement of components, locating holes, deciding the diameters of various holes, the optimum area that each component should occupy, the shape and size of pads for the components, track size and spacing, full space utilization and prevention of overcrowding of components at a particular area etc. There is no other way to arrive the conclusion than by trial and error. With these details the sketch of the PCB is made. 7.3 PCB FABRICATION The fabrication of the PCB starts with transferring the PCB drawing onto a copper clad sheet. For small number of PCBs, a direct photographic transfer of the PCB drawing from a negative image of the drawing to a photo sensitized copper clad sheet is carried out. Throughout history comparisons have been made between Germany and France, and rightly so, these two countries are the powerhouses of Europe, very little can be accomplished on the continent without their support. France and Germany share not only a border but common aspects of their political systems. They are both bicameral, constitutional republics with centralized national governments. But in recent years the French political system has become stuck in gridlock while Germany continues to move ahead and pass legislation. The critical difference between these two countries lies in the way they organize their parliaments and electoral systems, as well as the use of coalition governments. The current French political system was developed in 1958, with the creation of the fifth republic, which was introduced by Charles de Gaulle. The word modeling comes from the Latin word modellus which describes a typical human way of coping with the reality (Schichl, n.d.). Models can take various forms such as mathematical equation, drawing, computer code, etc. However, there is a common purpose of all designed models, which is to simplify the complexity presented in the real system or problem. Therefore, models usually contain only the main aspects of the real system (not all details). Consequences of tighter western controls took place, including further foreign presence and involvement, which was explicit in the humiliating imposition of punitive measures. These sanctions consisted of a $450 million reparation, weaponry destroyed and the permanent stationing of foreign troops in and around Beijing. The punishments brought about an atmosphere of utter embarrassment and fear but also encouraged a lack of distrust in the Manchus; the event validated the imperial government s incapability to lead China to liberation. Although the financial cost caused some apprehension, it didn t amount to economic turmoil the penalties actually caused a change in the nation s perception towards the Manchu dynasty as opposed to an economic transformation. Alexander Schmemann an Orthodox priest was originally intended as a study guide in the 1970 s for students preparing themselves for Missionary work, giving them a world view , helping to speak about Christian view points along with an approach to how they coalesce through the eyes of the Orthodox Church. A key theme Fr. Schmemann discussed is Secularism, which he believes developed from our progressive alienation of the Christian culture. Additionally, he presents his interpretation of the transforming biblical themes of creation, fall, and redemption through a sacramental understanding. Fr. Schmemann s experiences within the Orthodox Church liturgy reveal unity in the meanings of these three themes. It is through these understandings he believes can effectively offset the disastrous effects of secularism while revitalizing the sacramental understanding of the world. This act bred performance managementapplication in the public administration community by establishing tests and performance measurements that certainly outweigh the nature of providing government jobs due to party affiliation The act inherently eliminates a disadvantageous federal job market, and seeks to benefit those who can perform to the standards of the position. The benefits of this system outweigh its detriments, but I seek to examine how this system works today, and if its initial purpose was carried on.Cronyism, the act of giving jobs to friends and political affiliates, and nepotism, the act of giving jobs to family members, are dangerous because they create a system based off status, and not merit. The system this country had before the Pendleton Act was known as the spoils [or patronage] system. This prior system awarded jobs to people based off cronyism and nepotism. While it may seem harmless to award jobs in the political realm to people with close ties to a winning candidate, the primary focus of those positions should stem from performance. An example of the spoils system is if President elect Trump were to award a position of high influence on fair ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 37. Literary Allusion In Fahrenheit 451, By Ray Bradbury It was a pleasure to burn (Bradbury 1). At the start of Fahrenheit 451 by Ray Bradbury, published by Simon Schuster Paperbacks, comes one of the most iconic introductory phrases in literary culture. At the moment of reading it, this line is interpreted to be an expression of the thrill that came with the act of lighting a fire as Montag does his job to burn illegal books. However, by the end, it is possible to say that this line has a different meaning altogether. In a time where censorship and other forms of oppression were on the rise, Bradbury wrote his work to speak out against a strong government, preserving freedom for the individual. Through the use of allusions, he grounds Fahrenheit 451in reality, calling the themes of the novel into question in the present as much as they were in the time when the novel was written. Through the world of his story, Bradbury makes a statement about a potential path society could take, destroying freedom of thought and individual expression, becoming nothing less than a dystopialike the one in Montag s world. Bradbury uses both Biblical and literary allusions to reinforce his themes, ensuring the audience can apply his ideas to the world around them. Bradbury makes his use of Biblical allusions quite clearly in the novel, referencing multiple well known books and passages with specific emphasis on Ecclesiastes, using many of the allusions largely towards the end of the novel. Here in the Portland, Oregon area, we are very lucky. This is a wonderful place to live. Socially, we accept everyone no matter what you look like or believe in. Our mantra is Keep Portland Weird. Honestly, from a sociological standpoint, there are not that many issues, however there is one that is growing and is becoming a major problem. In Portland, we have a major homelessnessproblem. On top of the homeless issues there is a growing indifference towards the homeless issue from the rest of the population. People just do not seem to care about the homeless here in Portland. We see them so much it is almost like we are used to them and we do not think about it. We just walk right by, indifferent. Some are annoyed by the homeless here, most seem to act like they are invisible. The homeless are people too, they should be treated with dignity. In the past year or so, around 2 million people were left homeless and this is sure to continue to rise over the next few years. No one really knows why this is the way it is. Some factors that could cause homelessness are losing a job, not being able to find a job, low wages, too many bills, various disabilities, and lack of affordable housing and help. The term homelessness means people who do not have a home. The issue needs to be looked at in many different angles. Homelessness can be looked at through the eyes ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 41. Infrastructure Of Infrastructure And Infrastructure Infrastructure We are constantly surrounded by infrastructure assets. Infrastructure consists of all the assets that countries require to enable its daily operations and orderly functions. Transportation, energy, communications and water, are some of the infrastructure assets that serve as the backbone to our society. While traveling this summer with my family, I realized just how far behind the U.S. is compared to other parts of the world when it is considered one of the most advanced countries in the world. I thought to myself... Why hasn t the U.S. invested in such projects? China spends 7% of its GDP on infrastructure and India spends 5%. The U.S. spends just over 3%. As a result, U.S. infrastructure now ranks 14th globally according to the World Economic Forum s infrastructure index. In the current economic environment where interest rates are low and unemployment remains elevated, a logical solution to stimulate growth would be to build, modernize, or replace our infrastructure. Every 4 years, the American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE) releases a Report Card for America s Infrastructure that represents the condition and performance of the nation s infrastructure. In 2013, the United States infrastructure grade was a D+. Although we recognize the report is a little self serving, the statistics behind their research is compelling. Bowenian Family Systems Therapy Summary One of the main approaches that can be used with this family is Bowenian s Family Systems Therapy which emphasizes helping family members differentiate from their family of origin and help them to develop healthy relationships with their current family members (Hook, 2014). One of the assumptions of this theory is that multi generational trends or pattern have a great effect on an individual familymember s emotions, thinking or behavior, which results in the continuing the same trend. Families do not act autonomously, but they are essentially tied with their emotional behavior. This is known as the multigenerational transmission process (Gilbert, 2006). During session with the family, the genogram could help the family to open up about their sexual abuse and how it was dealt with the past. They can also process their feelings of having to raise children on their own.
