The Searchers Movie Essay
The movie, named The Searchers, produced in 1956 starring John Wayne. It was directed by John
Ford and the list of characters had many stars. I chose this film because of the many examples of
concepts learned in cultural anthropology. Ethan Edwards, played by John Wayne, returns to his
brother s house in Texas after his service in the Confederate Army. His adopted nephew, Martin, meets
him and Ethan says Folks might mistake you for a half breed. This racist comment was the first of
many by Ethan although Martin s phenotype was that of a white man. The Comanche warriors stole
cattle and while the men were looking for the cattle, the Comanche burned Ethan s brother s house and
killed everyone but Debbie and Lucy. Debbie and Lucy were taken ... Show more content on

Brad rode off to get revenge and was killed. Martin and Ethan continued to follow the Comanche.
Ethan refers to the Native American males as bucks. This is a derogatory term used in an attempt by
Caucasians to make the Native Americans seem less than human. Due to the ignorance of the
Comanche culture, Martin buys a wife with a hat. Ethan speaks Comanche enough to find out Martin s
wife knew where Scar s band was at. He spoke to her harshly to find out what she knew. His syntax
was different than the language Look spoke. Look ran off in the night and left a trail to follow. They
found a burned out village and Look was dead in a tepee. They left the dead and rode on. At a
government holding area the pair found four girls who had been rescued. They had been enculturated
into the Comanche culture. They were acting in a way that Ethan said they were not white anymore.
They had been culturally assimilated into the Comanche society and their ethnicity was the Comanche
culture. Ethan attempted ethnocide by killing buffalo. He said the buffalo won t feed Comanche this
winter . Martin stopped him from killing more buffalo. The commentary said Ethan did something
Martin still had no clue as to why it had

internet deliver to a receiver?
Stream paradigm does not implement any assurance for block sizes. So it is fully dependent on each
and every individual transfer.

should the sender choose?
In this case of multiple recipient transfer it is appropriate to use the message paradigm. This because it

A Brief Examination of the Immigration and Refugee Board...
A Brief Examination of the Immigration Refugee Board The Immigration and Refugee Board of
Canada is an independent tribunal established by the Parliament of Canada. Our mission, on behalf of
Canadians, is to resolve immigration and refugee cases efficiently, fairly and in accordance with the
law. ~Mission Statement of the Immigration and Refugee Board of Canada For various reasons, it may
become necessary to leave one s home country. Many people are attracted to Canada. Some people do
not leave their countries because of choice, but because of unjust persecution. Such persons are
referred to as refugees. There exists an administrative body that addresses the needs and rights of
refugees seeking relocation and settlement in Canada; this administrative body is called the
Immigration and Refugee Board of Canada. Refugees very often are in desperate situations that called
for cultural sensitivity and processing through legal avenues. The Immigration and Refugee Board of
Canada handles these duties. This paper will briefly examine this board, its decision making process,
and evaluate the efficacy of the board. The Immigration and Refugee Board of Canada came into
existence following a ruling by the Supreme Court of Canada. This ruling concludes that there must be
hearings for all those persons claiming refugee status in Canada. Currently, there are three divisions to
the Immigration and Refugee Board. They are the Immigration Division, the Refugee Protection

Christina Rossetti Influences
Christina Rossetti was born in London on 1830. She grew up in the heart of the Pre Raphaelite
movement. This movement was looked at as a break from the old conventional art and a radical and
revolutionary style of the arts. Her work was directly influenced by the movement she would often
draw influence for some of her poems from artwork from the movement. Her work followed the
manifesto by testing the conventions of art and pushing the boundaries with her poetry. She had
recurring bouts of depression and a lifelong sense of sinfulness. Another doctor speculated that she
suffered from religious mania, bordering on insanity her biographer: Jan Marsh speculated that this
may have been the result of an attempted parental incest This was evident ... Show more content on

When read straightforward it can be seen as a Christian allegory that reenacts the temptation of Adam
and Eve. Given her strong religious devotion this theory is popular among critics. Goblin market
contains many parallels to the bible and other religious symbols There is a an offer of redemption it is
a representation of Christ like offering, Eat me, drink me, love me (Christina Rossetti, Poetry
Foundation), it parallels Christ s Eucharistic at the last supper where he describes it as being a part of
him, an extension of himself. Rossetti supports this theory through Lizzie s Eucharistic diction, in this
case Christ is a female, for the time period this is significant however it is not uncommon for Christina
to promote sisterhood and female empowerment in her poetry. The fact that the sisters are endangered
by a male goblin only to be saved by the strength of sisterhood speaks to how important sisterhood
was to Rossetti. Marxists critics have highlighted that the poem has a distinct separation of the
commercial and domestic spheres. The marketplace where the sisters attempt to do business is
designed to make females into a commodity to bought, sold or traded rather than beings of their own
with their own sense of free will. (Christina Rossetti, Poetry

The Issues Caused By Rapid Urban Growth And Spatial...
1.Introduction:
The issues caused by rapid urban growth and spatial reconstructing in developing countries have
generated considerable concerns and attention from governments and planners (Hamnett Forbes, 2011;
Kasarda Parnell, 1993; Park Wheel, 1983; United Nations, 1996, 2000). As one of the largest cities in
Asia and the core political center, urban development in Beijing has proceeded at an accelerated pace
in the last two decades (Robin Visser, 2005). However, it still suffered lots of ethical dilemmas after
28 years successful city construction on urban planning. This assignment will pick the eviction issue
to analyzed, the final aim is not only to demonstrate the particular phenomenon in Beijing but also try
to find out the reasons of the issue through the comparison with UK planning system.
2.The forcing demolitions issue in Beijing:
Major cities in developing countries face similar issues related to high development pressure, a lack of
concern for cultural heritage (Kong and Yeoh, 1994 and Steinberg, 1996)
As one of the most historical cities, the Beijing s culture is disappeared as rapid as the economic
booming and reconstructed city growth. Although, the reasons of death of city culture are complicated,
there is little doubt that demolitions have a negative impact on the cultural conservation especially on
heritage preservation. For instance, the area of quadrangle dwellings is only about 300 square meters
in 2010 but was about 1700 square meters

Dracul A Fundamental Step Stone For Horror Literature
Written and set in the Victorian era, Bram Stoker s novel Dracula is a fundamental stepping stone for
horror literature. Unlike most novels of its time, Dracula not only showcased the ideals of its era, but it
completely flipped it on its head. Firstly, there are numerous examples of female sexuality and
symbolism throughout the entire novel. In Victorian society, it was believed that women had no sex
drive and only partook in sex when their male partners insisted. It was unheard of for a female to be
sexually assertive in any way, and such an idea would likely have been a very disturbing and
frightening concept to a conservative society. Needless to say, women often had to suppress their
sexual desires during this period in order to keep ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
But along with along with being depicted as a traditional woman, she also represents the new woman
of the time. Whereas Mina s traditional woman aspects are more so depicted through her sentiments
and principles, her new woman aspects are depicted through her intelligence. Mina is regarded to as a
new woman due to her job as an assistant schoolmistress, seeing as to most women who worked were
in order to make ends meat if their husbands were sick or injured and typically were jobs requiring
manual labor. Stoker basically wrote Mina to represent the ideal Victorian woman with even Van
Helsing praising her saying that she is one of God s women, fashioned by His own hand to show us
men and other women that there is a heaven where we can enter, and that its light can be here on earth.
So true, so sweet, so noble... (Stoker 114), but she is also simultaneously classified a new woman .
She is the only female character who keeps the Victorian ideals constant throughout the novel, even
after being vamped by Dracula and being confronted later on by his three brides. Now where Mina is
the quintessential Victorian woman, Dracula s three brides are on the complete opposite side of the
spectrum, the real new women . They were completely sexual every time they showed up within the
novel. Considering the high standards of purity Mina was held to due to her common Victorian nature,
these three were a Victorians nightmare.

Evolution Of Gender Roles In The 1920 s
Equality between men and women is more than a matter of social justice .gender roles is a way of

has been portrait to be a week woman in need of salvation. Fairy tales continue to imply women to be
dependent on men, like a princess on a prince. Princesses are put on hyper sexualized royal attire, then
again to reinforce the idea of the female role and their physical modifications to please men. Little
girls are given the idea of becoming a princess like Cinderella. They fantasize about wearing a ball
gown and being swept off their feet. Even the strongest female characters in the role plays are most to
be saved by a man with wealth and over power. Cinderella is setting a standard for women and
limiting female gender roles to full exploration of their femininity. Typically the placement of the
female role is perceived as being weaker, smaller and more fragile. Culturally, they are set as being
passive and domesticated, all oriented towards submission and weakness. In the story Cinderella is
slaved and abused by her step mother and sisters. It is always a competition between the step sisters to
be the most beautiful one for the prince. In the dominant narrative by Jacob and Wilhelm Grimm, they
explain the role that Cinderella was given and she was miserable. Looking for an escape her

How I Got A Promotion
I got a promotion offer that will move us out to Oregon my dad said as he looked over at me from the
driver s seat of the rental car we were sitting in. His face had a peculiar look to it, one that I hadn t
seen before. He looked at me with eyebrows slightly raised and the corners of his mouth curled up just
slightly with a sympathetic smile. I know now that it was a look of questioning, questioning how I
would take what he had just said. It was July 26th 2015 and it had been two months since I had seen
my parents because I was at basic training. They came to see me on family weekend and could only
stay for two days before I had to go back to training for another month. My dad drove to the base to

danced all around the big red ball but yet it was steady and calculated in its movement. I had always
wanted to go out west but had never been farther west than Ohio. I also recognized that this offer came
at the perfect time; both my sister and I had moved out of the house, me for college and my sister for
grad school, so there was nothing holding him back. We talked about what it would mean for our
family. This was no small transition; I knew it would be a momentous change. From our house in Jew
Jersey to the new home in Oregon is 2,906 miles away, to travel would be 45 hours by car and 18
hours by plane. My mom and dad would live in Oregon, my sister would stay in New Jersey to finish
school, and I would now live full time at school in Ohio. My parents would have to move everything
they owned across the country sell their house buy a new one and start all over in a brand new
location. Not to mention my sister and I could no longer just drive home over breaks now we would
have to fly across the country or not go home at all, this most certainly meant that I would see my

Case Study Of Anemia And Bleeding Disorders
Module 5 Assignment: Case Studies Anemia and bleeding disorders are common conditions that affect
the human blood. Anemia involves a decrease in both hemoglobin concentration and the number of
erythrocytes in the blood. As a result, the condition causes a decrease in the blood s oxygen carrying
capacity. On the other hand, bleeding disorders involve heavy and continuous loss of blood. They are
often classified into coagulation disorders and platelet disorders. In the current study, two different
cases of anemia and bleeding disorder were investigated.

Moreover, bone marrow biopsy revealed low iron stores and megaloblastic changes. The results also
showed normal levels of B12 but low levels of red cell folate and serum folate. The patient, therefore,
demonstrated an overall lack of iron in his blood, which suggested the presence of anemia involving
iron deficiency. Basically, iron deficiency decreases ferritin and decreases iron stores in the bone
marrow, which in turn causes the production of abnormal erythrocytes (Yadav et al., 2016). Therefore,
further assessment of the patient requires the identification of brittle nails, angular cheilitis, and
glossitis, which are associated with iron deficiency. Based on the laboratory findings, the most likely
diagnosis of the patient s condition is iron deficiency anemia. Accordingly, the patient can be managed
in several ways. First, the patient should be advised to discontinue alcohol intake. Iron deficiency in
the patient should be evaluated further, particularly by performing a thorough gastrointestinal
examination. Moreover, sixty mg of iron should be administered three times every day to promote the
normalization of Hct. In the case of unresponsiveness or intolerance to the dose, alternative therapies
like the use of iron sucrose and ferric gluconate are indicated. Suitable antibiotic combinations have
also been shown to reverse iron deficiency in patients suffering from atrophic gastritis that is
associated with Helicobacter pylori (Miernyk et al.,

The Representation Of The Society Through Art
Chinese Literature Student Name Institution Affiliation Chinese Literature Throughout the human
revolution, the representation of the society through art has been a common phenomenon. On the
advent of literary skills of writing, people could represent their world better than before. However, the
artists were only allowed to present the social ideas in the acceptable or the classical ways.
Unfortunately, this traditional method of conveying knowledge or ideas was limited and somehow
unrealistic of what was truly happening in the community. The language had to be polished and

The diary is meant to brief the visiting friend on the man s behavior and thoughts while suffering from
the psychiatric disorder. Interestingly, Xun starts this story by using classical writing when introducing
the sane friend but totally switches to vernacular when writing the content of the madman. The
vernacular use enables the author to speak of the society as it is, using the very words that are
employed in the society. Therefore, this makes his work more realistic. Furthermore, the themes that
the author employs are authentic as well. Through realism writing movement, Xun criticizes the four
thousand years old feudal Chinese system which has perpetuated human cannibalism. Through an
insane man, the author exposes the real tribulations that everyday people go through and have come to
perceive it as part and parcel of their lives. Also, Xun uses characterization to bring out the issues that
would be considered uncomfortable in such governance. Therefore, the madman character, who has
the social freedom to say anything and is more likely to be ignored, enables Xun to agonize the feudal
system injustices. Apart from characterization, Xun employs symbolism and hyperbole in his work. In
A Madman s Diary, the author uses cannibalism to symbolize the feudal Chinese system, which for
thousands of years has enabled the wealthy to further benefit off the poor. As a result, the gap between
the poor and the rich would never be bridged. Through the diarist, it is

Laissez Faire Capitalism In The Gilded Age
Before the Gilded Age, economic growth came to a halt because of the Depression of 1873. The
depression led to the bankruptcy of many banks and railroads, and resulted in hundreds of thousands
of people out of work. The Liberal Republican party also emerged as result of the depression. Liberal
Republicans were strong advocates for laissez faire policies, where there is no government regulation
in businesses or the economy. With this ideology, liberal republicans believed that it would help
stimulate economic growth and create more jobs. While liberal republicans were unsuccessful in
getting into office, they helped push the Democratic party (who were able to get control of the House
in 1784) shift their agenda to supporting laissez faire capitalism. By 1879, The Depression of 1873
had ended and the second Industrial Revolution began.
Laissez Faire capitalism became the dominating force of the Industrial Revolution that began during
the Gilded Age. The idea that Laissez Faire capitalism could help bring prosperity to the common man
was pushed by writer Horatio Alger, who published books that assured young readers that if they were
honest, hardworking, and had a good character, they could leave poverty behind and succeed in the
new competitive economy brought by the second industrial revolution. This idea was also reinforced
through the success of industrialists like John D. Rockefeller, Andrew Carnegie, and Cornelius
Vanderbilt, who came from humble backgrounds. Laissez Faire

story was first published in 1881 by Carlo Collodi in Italy . Collodi published his masterpiece as a
serial story in a children s weekly paper, Giornale dei bambini, between 1881 and 1883 (Liukkonen,

They personify conscience and discipline, which Pinocchio lacks at first. The Blue Fairy is
illuminated in the pictures representing her magical and mystical qualities. Jiminy Cricket is the
annoying voice of discipline always warning Pinocchio to heed his advice.
The tale takes place in an Italian village, initially in Geppetto s workshop which is full of wooden
gadgets and chiming clocks, yet he does not know what time it is. The gentle woodcarver is wishing
upon a star for the puppet to come to life and to be his son. The Blue Fairy brings the toy to life out of
compassion for Geppetto who is a good man, but is lonely and wanting someone to love. The puppet
named, Pinocchio, is not yet a human boy. He must earn the right to be real by proving that he is
brave, truthful, and unselfish (The Walt Disney Company, 1992). It is not an easy world for the
puppet. He must learn what it means to be a good person, including: going to school, working hard,
making friends and putting others needs before his own. In the end, after learning some important life
lessons, Pinocchio is transformed from the wooden puppet into the real boy Geppetto has always
wanted (The Walt Disney Company, 1992).
One important event in the story is when Pinocchio is confronted by the Blue Fairy about skipping
school to be in a puppet show. She asks him why he never went to school and he lies to her and says

Nigger Definition Essay
What word makes you cringe but you use daily? A word with arguably the most negative connotation,
but is used frequently by only one race. The word that comes to mind for me is Nigger. This word is
one of the many other things the white man stole from other cultures. Used as a derogatory,
demeaning term. Over the years, we, the African American community, took the word and turned into
a word of endearment, something that we use to speak of or to another black man/woman. Growing
up, I lived in two of the most diverse cities in America. Queens, New York and Houston, Texas, so I
personally have never experienced racism in my life, until my family and I stopped at Vider, Texas for
gas. As a young child, my older cousins would say the word nigger or nigga as frequently as the word
bro or dude. It is a way to refer to your fellow African American. Every time the word was used, it
was greeted with a smile and a nod signifying love and respect. I wasn t aware that the word was once

comes from his home land of Ethiopia. He told me the word was Negus , but the white man took it and
distorted it. I asked him if it just meant black like negro and negre do. He told me no. The meaning of
Negus is king, emperor, or ruler. They stole the word and turned it from a word of respect to a word of
hate. So now we are taking our word back and using it how it was truly intended to be used. It is used
to show love to another brother. To show that we can overcome

Snow Angel-Personal Narrative
The icy air swells around my ears causing by skin to tingle and sting. My fingers and toes are numb to
the touch, but somehow I find this feeling quite amusing. A continuous shudder convulses my body as
soon as the chilling wind comes in contact with my skin, freezing me to the bone. I quickly remember
vague yet precious childhood memories. The urge of throwing a snowball, lying on the fluffy cotton
known as snow and creating a snow angel, or designing a snowman, rushes over me. Those were the
good old days, but that was years ago I am a lot older now. I finally gather up the courage to get out of
my lovely abode, and I journey into the uncharted frozen wasteland. While opening the front door, a
nice cold billow of wind greets

Analysis Of The Era Of Postmodernism
Throughout the history of man, human beings impose form and order on all aspects of life in order to
reassure themselves there is a grand design behind life s seeming uncertainty. Evidence of this desire
are social constructions such as religion and time. However, the strong need to understand the word
through concrete systems is also seen in smaller details of daily life, such as fiction novels. The
average person enjoys realistic fiction, or fiction that mirrors what one perceives as the the human
experience. One method that fiction uses to enforce this desired reality is the use of a single
overarching storyline, or metanarrative. The era of Postmodernism upended this notion that a novel
should only have one grand metanarrative, and this upending is based in a reality closer to one s
lifespan where experiences are not singular or linear, but an amalgam of events and memories which
overlap, shift priorities, and transcend strict chronological time. Two Postmodern novels that
challenge the concept of a single metanarrative by including various micronarratives, employed to
confuse what story takes precedence over the other, are Vladimir Nabokov s Pale Fire and Italo
Calvino s If On a Winter s Night a Traveler. Nabokov employs the concept of intertextual conversation
between different sections of the book in Pale Fire while Calvino makes use of the reader s self
awareness of their role as an active participant in the reading of If On a Winter s Night a Traveler to

James Hetfield Research Paper
James Hetfield is an American singer and rhythm guitarist, the face and voice of Metallica. James has
been with the band since its formation in 1981. Known for hits like Enter Sandman and The Memory
Begins, Metallica is one of the best selling rock bands of all time. His parents were divorced, and at a
young age, he lost his mother to cancer. He grew up hunting, playing guitar, and was an ordinarily
quiet kid. Another member of the band, Lars Ulrich, put out an ad in 1981 for someone to play and
listen to music with him. James responded, They met up, and Metallica was formed. James Alan
Hetfield was born on August 3, 1963 in Downey, California (a suburb of Los Angeles) to Cynthia and

Analysis Of The Movie Spike Lee
Spike Lee is an Afro American director who has developed more fame and importance in the last 20
years. He portrays his stories in a way that nothing is fictitious and many of them are written about
some real events. Lee has co produced many of his films and has acted in some small roles within
them. According to IMDb (2016), Lee s work consists of: 26 films, 30 television programs, 45
commercials, 15 short films, starred in several films, and was a producer and writer of many other
works. Although, his films are somewhat irregular in terms of color palettes, shots, and exposition.
Regarding the plot, he is considered a drama director. Also, his works always emphasize action and
occasionally comedy.
Based on all the above, Lee s career will be analyzed from his early work in the film industry, his
career, and some of his most notable and recognized works.
For example, in many of the films I have seen so far, Spike Lee tends to substantiate his works in
many cultural, social, and political problems: besides the racism suffered by many African Americans
in the United States mainly. Lee became a director of promise with his first long film, She has to have
it (1986), according to McGowan (2014). This film was shot in around two weeks and cost around
$175,000 to make, but grossed more than $7 million, becoming in one of the most profitable films
created in 1986. Lee often takes a critical look at race relations, political problems, crime, and
violence. His film Do the

Ww2 Weapons Essay
Have you ever wondered what weapons were like back in WWII compared to present time or when
the computer and the atm were created and why they were created or even how major medical
inventions like penicillin were made and how they were used? All these inventions were made in
WWII but adapted to everyday life. It is amazing to see how inventions that may have been made for
bad things have been changed throughout time and become used for better things.
In World War Two, one of the weapons they used to use was the MP40. The MP40 was one of the
favorite weapons in WWII for its fast firing and large ammo capacity which would longer firing rate.
Another weapon that was used during WWII was the M1 Carbine which was light for its size and
could be accessed quickly if needed to. The M1 had some minor flaws and one of which was its small
ammo capacity but it could fire really fast. The AA gun was a weapon made for shooting planes out of
the sky but it lacked accuracy and it often took thousands of rounds to actually hit the plane. The AA
gun or the Anti Aircraft gun had to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

development of the computer. The first computer was called Colossus and was used for military

enigma codes to try and figure out what the codes were trying to get out to the other Nazis. The
computer worked very well with the enigma codes and it was one of the reasons that we won the war;
the fact that we could basically listen in on the Nazi s communications. The maker of the computer,
Konrad Zuse, had intended the computer to be made for civilian use at first, but then the first

Aim:
To study the agglutination pattern of different strains of Psuedomonas aeruginosa to different sialic
acid binding lectins.
Absract:
The cell membrane of two strains of Psuedomonas aeruginosa, P22 and P201 were treated the sialic
acid lectins SNA I, WGA, MAL and HAA to confirm the presence of sialic acid carbohydrates in the
cell surface membranes of these strains. This was done by using two sets of samples one treated with
trypsin and the other without. The sample treated with trypsin showed agglutination for all lectins
while the untreated sample showed little to no agglutination. A control was also used with the cells ...

Questions:
1.It is important to study sialic acid binding lectins because their glyco conjugates on the cell
membrane of microorganisms are usually associated with virulence factors that cause disease eg.
Streptococcus suis which has a high sialic acid content on its cell membrane causes infections in pigs
and humans resulting in cases of meningitis and endocartis. Sialic acid is also associated with P.
aeruginosa and the virulence it normally induces. Other lectins that are also of importance in
microbiology and/or cell biology are mannose binding lectins which are also associated with
virulence.
2.The agglutination is based on binding of the sialic acid to the cell membrane. To confirm that sialic
acid carbohyrates are responsible for the binding the cells can be stripped of sialic acid and the
experiment repeated.
The cells are treated with sialidase from C. Perfringens to remove sialic acid carbohydrates from the
cell surface membrane.
Cell are given a 6 hour growth period
Cells are then centrifuged and re suspended in sialidase and buffer and incubated to remove any sialic
acid carbohydrates.
Cells are then washed in PBS

Zoologist Career Research Paper
The next possible step in being a zoologist is to gain a Doctoral degree in order to teach zoology at a
University or to conduct some self guided research projects with no supervision. Research after the
doctoral level is often used to create new plans for conservation of very specific animal species. This
would be a great goal, but I am not sure if I would like to push myself this far in my educational
lineup as of now, and I would make this option depending on how my life is going at this stage. For
doctorate school, students must carry out their own original research, write a dissertation about it and
orally defend it to department faculty members and peers.
Application to many zoologist job titles is crucial to attaining a job in this

Example Of Conflict Theory
The conflict theory maintains that the law and policy regarding the justice system are tools used by the
people with the most political power to further their interests. Based on Marxist s social theory, the
conflict theory stresses how the people in power can manipulate the law or other legal policies to help
their agenda. An example of this would be the progressive police reform, in which it was a social
movement advocating progress, change, and reform in the police occupation (Progressive Police
Reform). In the 19th century, the police was seen as social workers and in order to implement the
social work role, they hired women officers. Female police officers believed that they should play a
helping role similar to that of being the mother at home. The greatest influence from the progressive
police reform was produced by August Vollmer, the chief of police in ... Show more content on

However, in more recent times, there has been numerous occasions where police officers have abused
their power and exhibited behavior that are not consistent to what they were trained. These police
officers have taken their power above their powers and in some people s opinions, above the law. In a
recent event, a man by the name of Eric Garner was placed in a chokehold by a New York police
officer. A video was taken of the episode and it clearly shows Mr. Garner struggling to breath and
screaming for his life. After several moments of constant, desperate cries for help, Eric Garner went
completely limp. Now, people have various translations of what occurred, but the main point of this is
that the police unnecessarily used excessive force on a man that was undoubtedly struggling for his
life. The chokehold maneuver used by the NYPD officer was a clear sign of excessive force and that
maneuver has been banned from the NYPD since 1993

Twelfth Night Essay
In Shakespeare s play, Twelfth Night or What you Will, the characters are involved in a plot complete
with trickery, disguise, and love. Each character is defined not by his or her gender or true identity, but
by the role they are forced to take because of the complicated situation that arises. Unlike their gender,
the speech the characters give an insight to their true personalities. In the Twelfth Night, the character
Duke Orsino uses flowery and over dramatic language, long poetic sentence structure, and
melodramatic metaphors to display his overemotional romantic nature despite the different emotions
in his various speeches. Duke Orsino s repeated usage of poetical verse and poetic devices to describe
his woes from love set him ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Enough no more! (1.1.6 7). He accentuates his original metaphor by personifying music and
comparing it to a breeze that carries the flowers odor with it. Until line 8, Orsino does not mention his
love explicitly. Instead, he establishes the feeling of yearning by referring to symbols of love such as
music and flowers. Orsino ends his long speech with, Even in a minute, So full of shapes is fancy./
That it alone is high fantastical. (1.1.14 15). By stating that love is a wonderful figment of
imagination, Orsino reinforces the previous metaphorical and vague language he uses in the beginning
of the speech. That it [love] alone is high fantastical (1.1.15) also shows that he is a true romantic
because he is in love with the concept of love rather than the person themselves. Furthermore, he line,
...Enough no more! (1.1.7) contradicts with the previous line, Give me excess of it, that, surfeiting,
(1.1.4) which proves that Orsino is very dramatic in character because he constantly vacillates in his
actions and desires. He is emotionally unstable at times in the play and thus acquires a dramatic
behavior.
In Act 5, Orsino delivers a speech to Olivia in order to express his broken heart and pine over his
unreciprocated feelings. However, by drawing out the speech with allusions, excessive language, and
metaphors, Shakespeare portrays Orsino as an overemotional and romance driven character.

Imperialism In Uganda
During the imperialism in Africa, a lot of different events happened in Uganda. The imperialism had
effects on the country, some of the effects benefited the country, and some did not. Mostly, it did not
benefit the country. The British did most things to only benefit themselves, and did not care about
what happened to the citizens of Uganda. The British only wanted power over the country, and to
make a profit. Before the imperialism, Uganda was a prosperous country. They were one of the most
powerful and the largest kingdoms in Africa. was heralded for its royal history and development as a

They also had truces now with other organizations, like the UNFR. There was a organization called
the Lord s Resistance Army and they would attack the country. They kidnapped children and caused
more people to flee. They killed many people in Uganda to rebel. Uganda tried to contact them to stop
this rebelling, but they did not. Uganda tried to meet up with the leader of the group, but they did not
show up. They tried to make peace and come to an agreement to stop, but they did not want to. The
leader of the Lord s Resistance Army, Joseph Kony, again fails to turn up for the signing of a peace
agreement ( Uganda Profile Timeline ). Uganda is putting a lot of effort into trying to settle things
with the LRA, but the LRA does not want to settle any of their disputes. Uganda wants everything to
be mostly peaceful again, but they cannot do that without the LRA stopping their unnecessary attacks
against Uganda. The LRA and Ugandans end up signing a truce after having several peace talks,
causing a ceasefire. British imperialism did many things for the Ugandans. It did both good, and bad,
but the British did not do much to help them. The country was stable before the British came, but
after, they were not doing that well. Uganda did become stable eventually after the British. They
helped them obtain more resources and ways of transportation, but they took over their government.
The British only cared about what was good for themselves and were greedy. They only wanted power
and control over the country, they did not have many means to help them out, without mostly

Cat In The Hat Movie And Book Comparison Essay
Throughout my years as a scholar I never quite enjoyed the process of summer work, especially the
summer reading aspect of it. There are multiple reasons on why I perhaps dread the work. For one, I
like to enjoy my summer without thoughts of school (though this was nearly impossible being a rising
senior), and I go through the process of forgetting school, by ignoring my summer work up till the
night before the first day of classes. However, this year I made an active decision to start my summer
reading early, and I m glad I did so. As I was scrolling through falconview in its last functional days I

Experiment 11 Reflection, Refraction, the Dispersion of Light, and Brewster s angle
Zhecheng shi
Introduction
In this lab we will figure out the connection between incidence angle and reflection angle using
concave mirror and convex mirror at part A. In part B, we will determine the relationship between
incidence angle and refraction angle for a light going through a rhombus prism. Rhombus prism, three
way mirror, light source, and protractor will be used to determine the angle of a ray. After that, we do
the part C to observe the dispersion using the acrylic rhomboid. Then we figure out different refraction
for various colours of light. In part D, we will calculate Brewster s ... Show more content on

The name of this angle is Brewster Angle. It always obey a rule that reflected ray and refracted ray in
90 degrees. Based on Snell s Law, n1sinθp=n2sinθ2. And θp+θ2=90 degrees.( θp is incidence angle
and θ2 is refraction angle). So n1sinθp=n2sin(90 θp). This leads to n1sinθp=n2cosθp. or tanθp=n2/n1.
Procedure D Put the D shaped optic lens on the top of the ray table, and shut down the lights in the
classroom. Adjust the direction of light and make sure it is focused on the central part of the D shaped
lens and incident angle is 25 degrees. Observe the reflected light. Then increase the incident angle and
make the angle back to 25 degrees.

What Is The Role Of Segregation In Public Education
When you look at Brown you are looking at a moment so powerful it is the equivalent of the Big Bang
in our solar system, says historian and commentator Juan Williams.
On May 17th, 1954, the unanimous Brown decision marks a significant day in American s history.
This momentous event culminated in the passage of the Civil Rights Movement into a full revolution
by focusing attention on the subjugation of blacks, fueling a wave of freedom rides, voter registration
efforts, and sit ins. However, while Brown had been unsuccessful in fully desegregating public
education between blacks and whites, it placed the Constitution in support of racial equality, allowing
for many more positive changes for African Americans.
Around 58 years before the verdict in Brown, America followed the Plessy Doctrine, a law stating that

  • 2. The Searchers Movie Essay The movie, named The Searchers, produced in 1956 starring John Wayne. It was directed by John Ford and the list of characters had many stars. I chose this film because of the many examples of concepts learned in cultural anthropology. Ethan Edwards, played by John Wayne, returns to his brother s house in Texas after his service in the Confederate Army. His adopted nephew, Martin, meets him and Ethan says Folks might mistake you for a half breed. This racist comment was the first of many by Ethan although Martin s phenotype was that of a white man. Look ran off in the night and left a trail to follow. They found a burned out village and Look was dead in a tepee. They left the dead and rode on. At a government holding area the pair found four girls who had been rescued. They had been enculturated into the Comanche culture. They were acting in a way that Ethan said they were not white anymore. They had been culturally assimilated into the Comanche society and their ethnicity was the Comanche culture. Ethan attempted ethnocide by killing buffalo. He said the buffalo won t feed Comanche this winter . Martin stopped him from killing more buffalo. • 7. Christina Rossetti Influences Christina Rossetti was born in London on 1830. She grew up in the heart of the Pre Raphaelite movement. This movement was looked at as a break from the old conventional art and a radical and revolutionary style of the arts. Her work was directly influenced by the movement she would often draw influence for some of her poems from artwork from the movement. Her work followed the manifesto by testing the conventions of art and pushing the boundaries with her poetry. She had recurring bouts of depression and a lifelong sense of sinfulness. Given her strong religious devotion this theory is popular among critics. Goblin market contains many parallels to the bible and other religious symbols There is a an offer of redemption it is a representation of Christ like offering, Eat me, drink me, love me (Christina Rossetti, Poetry Foundation), it parallels Christ s Eucharistic at the last supper where he describes it as being a part of him, an extension of himself. As one of the largest cities in Asia and the core political center, urban development in Beijing has proceeded at an accelerated pace in the last two decades (Robin Visser, 2005). However, it still suffered lots of ethical dilemmas after 28 years successful city construction on urban planning. • 9. Dracul A Fundamental Step Stone For Horror Literature Written and set in the Victorian era, Bram Stoker s novel Dracula is a fundamental stepping stone for horror literature. Unlike most novels of its time, Dracula not only showcased the ideals of its era, but it completely flipped it on its head. Firstly, there are numerous examples of female sexuality and symbolism throughout the entire novel. In Victorian society, it was believed that women had no sex drive and only partook in sex when their male partners insisted. It was unheard of for a female to be sexually assertive in any way, and such an idea would likely have been a very disturbing and frightening concept to a conservative society. But along with along with being depicted as a traditional woman, she also represents the new woman of the time. Whereas Mina s traditional woman aspects are more so depicted through her sentiments and principles, her new woman aspects are depicted through her intelligence. Mina is regarded to as a new woman due to her job as an assistant schoolmistress, seeing as to most women who worked were in order to make ends meat if their husbands were sick or injured and typically were jobs requiring manual labor. Stoker basically wrote Mina to represent the ideal Victorian woman with even Van Helsing praising her saying that she is one of God s women, fashioned by His own hand to show us men and other women that there is a heaven where we can enter, and that its light can be here on earth. So true, so sweet, so noble... (Stoker 114), but she is also simultaneously classified a new woman . She is the only female character who keeps the Victorian ideals constant throughout the novel, even after being vamped by Dracula and being confronted later on by his three brides. Now where Mina is the quintessential Victorian woman, Dracula s three brides are on the complete opposite side of the spectrum, the real new women . They were completely sexual every time they showed up within the novel. Considering the high standards of purity Mina was held to due to her common Victorian nature, these three were a Victorians nightmare. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

His face had a peculiar look to it, one that I hadn t seen before. He looked at me with eyebrows slightly raised and the corners of his mouth curled up just slightly with a sympathetic smile. Moreover, bone marrow biopsy revealed low iron stores and megaloblastic changes. The results also showed normal levels of B12 but low levels of red cell folate and serum folate. The patient, therefore, demonstrated an overall lack of iron in his blood, which suggested the presence of anemia involving iron deficiency. Basically, iron deficiency decreases ferritin and decreases iron stores in the bone marrow, which in turn causes the production of abnormal erythrocytes (Yadav et al., 2016). Therefore, further assessment of the patient requires the identification of brittle nails, angular cheilitis, and glossitis, which are associated with iron deficiency. Based on the laboratory findings, the most likely diagnosis of the patient s condition is iron deficiency anemia. Accordingly, the patient can be managed in several ways. First, the patient should be advised to discontinue alcohol intake. Iron deficiency in the patient should be evaluated further, particularly by performing a thorough gastrointestinal examination. Moreover, sixty mg of iron should be administered three times every day to promote the normalization of Hct. In the case of unresponsiveness or intolerance to the dose, alternative therapies like the use of iron sucrose and ferric gluconate are indicated. The Representation Of The Society Through Art Chinese Literature Student Name Institution Affiliation Chinese Literature Throughout the human revolution, the representation of the society through art has been a common phenomenon. On the advent of literary skills of writing, people could represent their world better than before. However, the artists were only allowed to present the social ideas in the acceptable or the classical ways. Unfortunately, this traditional method of conveying knowledge or ideas was limited and somehow unrealistic of what was truly happening in the community. The language had to be polished and altered to fit the social standards. Nevertheless, as the traditional forms of leadership shifted slowly from the feudal to more democratic ones, ... Interestingly, Xun starts this story by using classical writing when introducing the sane friend but totally switches to vernacular when writing the content of the madman. The vernacular use enables the author to speak of the society as it is, using the very words that are employed in the society. Therefore, this makes his work more realistic. Furthermore, the themes that the author employs are authentic as well. Through realism writing movement, Xun criticizes the four thousand years old feudal Chinese system which has perpetuated human cannibalism. Through an insane man, the author exposes the real tribulations that everyday people go through and have come to perceive it as part and parcel of their lives. Also, Xun uses characterization to bring out the issues that would be considered uncomfortable in such governance. Therefore, the madman character, who has the social freedom to say anything and is more likely to be ignored, enables Xun to agonize the feudal system injustices. Apart from characterization, Xun employs symbolism and hyperbole in his work. In A Madman s Diary, the author uses cannibalism to symbolize the feudal Chinese system, which for thousands of years has enabled the wealthy to further benefit off the poor. As a result, the gap between the poor and the rich would never be bridged. Through the diarist, it is ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 18. Laissez Faire Capitalism In The Gilded Age Before the Gilded Age, economic growth came to a halt because of the Depression of 1873. The depression led to the bankruptcy of many banks and railroads, and resulted in hundreds of thousands of people out of work. The Liberal Republican party also emerged as result of the depression. Liberal Republicans were strong advocates for laissez faire policies, where there is no government regulation in businesses or the economy. With this ideology, liberal republicans believed that it would help stimulate economic growth and create more jobs. While liberal republicans were unsuccessful in getting into office, they helped push the Democratic party (who were able to get control of the House in 1784) shift their agenda to supporting laissez faire capitalism. By 1879, The Depression of 1873 had ended and the second Industrial Revolution began. Laissez Faire capitalism became the dominating force of the Industrial Revolution that began during the Gilded Age. The idea that Laissez Faire capitalism could help bring prosperity to the common man was pushed by writer Horatio Alger, who published books that assured young readers that if they were honest, hardworking, and had a good character, they could leave poverty behind and succeed in the new competitive economy brought by the second industrial revolution. This idea was also reinforced through the success of industrialists like John D. Rockefeller, Andrew Carnegie, and Cornelius Vanderbilt, who came from humble backgrounds. Laissez Faire ... The gentle woodcarver is wishing upon a star for the puppet to come to life and to be his son. The Blue Fairy brings the toy to life out of compassion for Geppetto who is a good man, but is lonely and wanting someone to love. The puppet named, Pinocchio, is not yet a human boy. The word that comes to mind for me is Nigger. This word is one of the many other things the white man stole from other cultures. Used as a derogatory, demeaning term. Over the years, we, the African American community, took the word and turned into a word of endearment, something that we use to speak of or to another black man/woman. • 23. Analysis Of The Era Of Postmodernism Throughout the history of man, human beings impose form and order on all aspects of life in order to reassure themselves there is a grand design behind life s seeming uncertainty. Evidence of this desire are social constructions such as religion and time. However, the strong need to understand the word through concrete systems is also seen in smaller details of daily life, such as fiction novels. The average person enjoys realistic fiction, or fiction that mirrors what one perceives as the the human experience. One method that fiction uses to enforce this desired reality is the use of a single overarching storyline, or metanarrative. The era of Postmodernism upended this notion that a novel should only have one grand metanarrative, and this upending is based in a reality closer to one s lifespan where experiences are not singular or linear, but an amalgam of events and memories which overlap, shift priorities, and transcend strict chronological time. Two Postmodern novels that challenge the concept of a single metanarrative by including various micronarratives, employed to confuse what story takes precedence over the other, are Vladimir Nabokov s Pale Fire and Italo Calvino s If On a Winter s Night a Traveler. Nabokov employs the concept of intertextual conversation between different sections of the book in Pale Fire while Calvino makes use of the reader s self awareness of their role as an active participant in the reading of If On a Winter s Night a Traveler to ... The M1 had some minor flaws and one of which was its small ammo capacity but it could fire really fast. Streptococcus suis which has a high sialic acid content on its cell membrane causes infections in pigs and humans resulting in cases of meningitis and endocartis. Sialic acid is also associated with P. aeruginosa and the virulence it normally induces. Other lectins that are also of importance in microbiology and/or cell biology are mannose binding lectins which are also associated with virulence. 2.The agglutination is based on binding of the sialic acid to the cell membrane. To confirm that sialic acid carbohyrates are responsible for the binding the cells can be stripped of sialic acid and the experiment repeated. The cells are treated with sialidase from C. An example of this would be the progressive police reform, in which it was a social movement advocating progress, change, and reform in the police occupation (Progressive Police Reform). In the 19th century, the police was seen as social workers and in order to implement the social work role, they hired women officers. • 38. Cat In The Hat Movie And Book Comparison Essay Throughout my years as a scholar I never quite enjoyed the process of summer work, especially the summer reading aspect of it. There are multiple reasons on why I perhaps dread the work. For one, I like to enjoy my summer without thoughts of school (though this was nearly impossible being a rising senior), and I go through the process of forgetting school, by ignoring my summer work up till the night before the first day of classes. However, this year I made an active decision to start my summer reading early, and I m glad I did so. As I was scrolling through falconview in its last functional days I was pleasantly surprised to find the book MoneyBall as one of the options. Being an avid Baseball fan, having seen the movie adaptation, and the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... MoneyBall, explored the Oakland A s franchise under the management of Billy Beane, an ex baseball prospect. This book displayed to the reader the misgrievances many pro scouts make when recruiting players, including; the exclusion of certain players when building teams, the wrong analysis of stats, and the use of conventional wisdom. This book explains how a poor baseball team went from a winning percentage under .500 to almost beating the richest team in baseball. The book is most accurately depicted by what the back of the cover articulates, MoneyBall is The most influential book on sports ever written . To begin, when I first opened the novel I had already had high expectations for the book as I and many others had already enjoyed the movie adaptation of the novel (though the book came out first), so it s no surprise that I immensely enjoyed the book. However, one thing I didn t know going into the reading is how much I would learn and question from having read it. Having a rich baseball background from having played the sport since I was four years old I thought I ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Experiment 11 Reflection, The Dispersion Of Light PHYS 2240 August 10, 2015 Experiment 11 Reflection, Refraction, the Dispersion of Light, and Brewster s angle Zhecheng shi Introduction In this lab we will figure out the connection between incidence angle and reflection angle using concave mirror and convex mirror at part A. In part B, we will determine the relationship between incidence angle and refraction angle for a light going through a rhombus prism. Rhombus prism, three way mirror, light source, and protractor will be used to determine the angle of a ray. After that, we do the part C to observe the dispersion using the acrylic rhomboid. Then we figure out different refraction for various colours of light. In part D, we will calculate Brewster s ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The name of this angle is Brewster Angle. It always obey a rule that reflected ray and refracted ray in 90 degrees. Based on Snell s Law, n1sinθp=n2sinθ2. And θp+θ2=90 degrees.( θp is incidence angle and θ2 is refraction angle). So n1sinθp=n2sin(90 θp). This leads to n1sinθp=n2cosθp. or tanθp=n2/n1. Procedure D Put the D shaped optic lens on the top of the ray table, and shut down the lights in the classroom. Adjust the direction of light and make sure it is focused on the central part of the D shaped lens and incident angle is 25 degrees. Observe the reflected light. Then increase the incident angle and make the angle back to 25 degrees. Data ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 40. What Is The Role Of Segregation In Public Education When you look at Brown you are looking at a moment so powerful it is the equivalent of the Big Bang in our solar system, says historian and commentator Juan Williams. On May 17th, 1954, the unanimous Brown decision marks a significant day in American s history. This momentous event culminated in the passage of the Civil Rights Movement into a full revolution by focusing attention on the subjugation of blacks, fueling a wave of freedom rides, voter registration efforts, and sit ins. However, while Brown had been unsuccessful in fully desegregating public education between blacks and whites, it placed the Constitution in support of racial equality, allowing for many more positive changes for African Americans. Around 58 years before the verdict in Brown, America followed the Plessy Doctrine, a law stating that ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This legal statement was supported by extensive testimony with psychological studies, stating that these schools were inherently discriminatory and emotionally damaging to African American children. On the other hand, the board had argued that segregated schools followed the Plessy doctrine and therefore, had been equal in all circumstances. They also outlined of the facilities in both white and black schools as being equal, stating that the programs, even for the minority groups, were better than the courses offered at the white schools. Attorneys for Topeka concluded their argument with the statement stating that all things considered, discrimination by race did not harm ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
