Research question: What is the impact of Philippine Suicide Prevention Hotlines to Filipinos ages 18

Thesis statement: Philippine suicide prevention hotlines are made to help people with suicidal crisis
and these programs have different impacts, relevance and level of effectiveness to Filipinos of
different ages.
The issue on suicide among teenagers in the Philippines is rarely discussed in the classrooms, homes
and in the community. This kind of attitude is brought about by practice of Catholic religion in which
suicide is not accepted by the Catholic Church and the people are afraid to report the incident of

Obstacles Of Phoenix Jackson In A Worn Path
Everyday people are faced with obstacles that stand in their way of where they are trying to go. This is
shown in the story, A Worn Path. Phoenix Jackson is the main character and she is an old, black
woman who resides in the countryside of Mississippi. She is on a journey to reach a town called
Natchez, so that she can get her grandson medicine. But, along the way she is faced with obstacles.
These obstacles do not stop her from where she is trying to go, because through all and all, love
inspires bravery. Through the many obstacles that Phoenix Jackson faced along her journey to town,
not once did she show fear or give up because she was on a mission, and that mission was inspired by
love. Phoenix Jackson is very old, small, and she uses ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Then he points a gun at her, and she stood straight and faced him when he did so. When he asked if
she was afraid of the gun, she replied, No, sir, I seen plenty go off closer by, in my day, and for less
than what I done (DiYanni). The hunter even replied that she is scared of nothing, and she goes on her
way. Her perception of these obstacles emphasizes her intense physical, mental, and moral effort to
complete this journey (Heller). Phoenix is brave physically because she had to climb over logs,
through thorn bushes, and a barbed wire fence. She is brave mentally, because she can stay calm while
in stressful situations like having a gun pointed to her face. She really cares about her grandson, and
that motivates her to stay strong for him and to make it through these rough

Iron Thermal Conductivity And Thermal Expansion
Aluminium is a very reactive metal with high affinity for oxygen but the metal is highly resistant to
most environments and to a great variety of chemical agents. This resistance is due to the inert and
protective character of the aluminium oxide film which forms on the metal surface. Welding of
aluminium still represents a critical operation due to its complexity and the high level of defect that
can be produced in the joint. The main problems are related to the properties of aluminium. They are:
High thermal conductivity and thermal expansion.
High chemical reactivity with oxygen.
High hydrogen solubility at high temperature.
All this factors can cause presence of defects on the weld bead; like high thermal conductivity and
high thermal expansion can cause distortions in the weld, high chemical reactivity with oxygen may
include inclusions and porosity in the weld, high hydrogen solubility at high temperature may cause
hydrogen embrittlement or hydrogen induced cracking. The Friction Stir Welding (FSW) represents a
possible solution. Friction stir welding (FSW) is a new solid state joining technique which was
invented by The Welding Institute (TWI) in 1991.This technique is now increasingly used to join high
strength aluminium alloys such as 2xxx, 6xxx, 7xxx and 8xxx series. It is used in various fields such
as aerospace, automotive and marine industries. This technique is attractive for joining high strength
aluminium alloys since there is far lower heat input

European Law the Ordinary Legislative Procedure
n European Law the Ordinary legislative procedure is used when drafting hard law to ensure that the
democratically elected representatives of the EU citizens have an equal say in appropriate areas of law
making. There will be a brief analyse of the Ordinary legislative procedure and a discussion on it.
European Law is very complex law , within EU law there is various different treaties which are in
place. Two most significant treaties which have importance to the legislative process are The Treaty
on European Union and the Treaty on the functioning of the European Union.

Second Reading
The Parliament has three months from their first initial contact with the council about the commissions
proposal for legislation if they have not came to a decision whether or not to carry on with the
proposed legislation or agree with the Councils view on it .Then the council will be deemed to adopt
the act in accordance with its position Art 294(7)(a) TFEU. The Parliament can take different
approaches within the three month timeframe. The Parliament can reject the Council s perception if
they do so then the act would be considered not to have been implemented. This is known as veto and
prevents the bill becoming law. However in order for this procedure to take place there must be a
majority vote of the component members of parliament. Or they can vote an majority vote to propose
the amendments of the future legislation which the council has proposed.
In my opinion I think that it is beneficial that the parliament can chose to make the law veto as
personally the parliament members are for the citizens of the European Union therefore as they have
the power of veto then they can ensure fair and effective legislation is introduced into Europe and not
just any old law which is only really benefiting members of the Council. Although in order to make
the law veto there must be a majority which I personally

Hip Hop Masculinity
Connecting Masculinity to Hip Hop as an entire movement Hip Hop originated in the 1970 s, and
during that period the genre was known as a means through which African Americans could speak
their minds and state their opinions and concerns about important issues in their communities and
society. However hip hop has immensely changed since its creation to what it is now, as a result of its
profit oriented nature. Even though a few aspects of the original old school hip hop are still recognized
and practiced in today s mainstream rap, the genre as a whole has come to be known for revolving
around the common themes of violence, drug use, promiscuity, fashion, and materialism. In reality,
today s mainstream hip hop is based on the beliefs of what ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

Female MC s accept a variety of different fashion trends and masculine mannerisms in hip hop,
whether it s the hyper sexuality in their lyrics or music videos or they are taking on masculine
personas. Female MC s like Da Brat are known for their more masculine appearances. Typically, other
female MC s often take the other route. The success rate of music in the hip hop industry has been
proven to tie into hyper sexualized images and female MC s are forced to comply with the sexism of
the genre. These women do this by referring to themselves and other women as bitches , and hoes
along with explicitly talking about sexual acts and fantasies. However, most of these sexual fantasies
are in the male s perspective. Female MC s also give in to the superficial beliefs of the genre. For
example, rapper Nicki Minaj collaborated with Drake in the song Up all Night, where she bragged, I
make the kind of money that make a broke bitch bitter...Which bitch you know made a million off a
mixtape? That was just a keepsake. Bought the president the Louie presidential briefcase (Minaj,
2010, track 6). Women in hip hop have essentially become hip hop robots for the men of hip hop and
masculinity; they completely mimic the behaviors of male

Waterstreet The Gin Game Analysis
Acting is all about the movement of your body and your soul. Music, visual and stage arts, all of these
are all able to express deep messages without the use of oral talk. Sign language is the one of a kind
language which uses body motion and facial expressions to communicate with others. These
characteristics are also necessary in successful stage performances, as acting depends greatly on
movement and facial expression. The majority of theatrical productions do indeed depend on human
speech to connect with the crowd; however, the tool of the human body and its native communication
skill is what charms and truly satisfies the audience. Today, many theatrical productions offer
American Sign Language translation during certain performances. ... Show more content on

This allowed hearing audience to listen in on the act through their headsets, with the sign to voice
interpreters planted in the sound booth speaking into a microphone. He tried this idea with the play
Shirley Valentine with good success, and the box office numbers grew. Waterstreet s made the voice
fully dependent to the rhythm of ASL, and without question, the ASL interpretation was as fluent as
possible. Hearing audiences would sometimes have to sustain fast or meandering speech as it adjusted
itself in a way that will fit the rhythm of the ASL

Flowers For Algernon And The Book Thief Comparison Essay
...Don t feel sorry for me. I m glad I had a second chance in life like you said to be smart because I
learned a lot of things that I never knew were in this world, and I m grateful I saw it even for a little
bit (Keys, 119). This quote describes both books because they are narrated in unusual ways which
make us view the book in a different way than we would have under normal circumstances. Also, both
in Flowers for Algernon by Daniel Keys, and The Book Thief by Markus Zusak, both characters face
big changes in their life which cause them to lose the people they love the most. Despite these

He tells the story from his point of view as he takes a special interest in Liesel Meminger, by watching
her and reading her stories. Death feels like he has an emotional connection with humans, and
therefore dislikes his job of taking souls away. It kills me sometimes, how people die...He does
something to me, that boy. Every time. It s his only detriment. He steps on my heart. He makes me cry
(Zusak, 329). Death feels like his job is a punishment, which makes it difficlult for him because he
shouldn t have a conscience but he does. The way he narrates the novel, makes us feel like he s
trapped inside. As he watched over Liesel, there were obstacles that got in the way. He didn t have a
choice when he had to take the Hubermann s and Rudy s life away. At the night of the Nazi book
burning, Liesel looked around to see if anyone is watching her steal the book, but all along she did t
know that Death witnessed all her acts of thievery. In The Book Thief, death is an example of an
atypical narrative structure whom takes upon himself to watch over an orphan who lost all her loved

Power In Khaled Hosseini s A Thousand Splendid Suns
One moment she was talking and the next she was on all fours, wide eyed and red faced, trying to
draw a breath.... She howled with pain as he slammed the door shut. A key rattled in the lock (268).
Khaled Hosseini develops these images throughout the novel A Thousand Splendid Suns. There are
several imperative sections where locks and keys are used as a symbol of power. Through Mariam,
Laila, Aziza, and Zalmai, Hosseini reveals the true power Rasheed has over his wives and children.
From a young age Mariam is controlled by Jalil, who has power over both Mariam and Nana as he
keeps them locked in the kolba outside of town. When Mariam walks to Herat to visit Jalil, she was

He is in complete control of their lives, and keeps them locked away for three days without food or
water. Later when Rasheed s shop burns down, the family runs low on money for food. Due to the risk
of starving, Laila takes Aziza to the local orphanage where she will be better fed. While Aziza is at the
orphanage, Rasheed often refuses to walk with Laila to visit her, he does this to take control over her,
and tease her that she cannot see her daughter. When Tariq visits Laila, Zalmai sees Tariq and tells
Rasheed about him when Rasheed returns home from work. He took Zalmai by the elbow. Zalmai
meekly let himself be led upstairs.... Mariam saw his feet pounding the steps as he came down. She
saw him pocketing the key, (345). Rasheed proceeds to beat Mariam and Laila profusely. He was still
on top of Laila, his eyes wide and crazy, his hands wrapped around her neck. Laila s face was turning
blue now, her eyes had rolled back (348). Mariam had gone to the toolshed to get a shovel, when she
sees him killing Laila she brings the shovel up and swings it down on him. He falls off of Laila, but
Mariam raises the shovel again and kills him. After Laila wakes up, Mariam reaches into his pocket
and takes the keys. Khaled Hosseini uses the symbolism of locks and keys throughout A Thousand
Splendid Suns to show who is in control, or has power over others. In the novel Rasheed commonly

The Corruptive Nature of Power in J. J. R. Tolkien’s The...
When given, or exposed to power, people may become corrupt. In J. J. R. Tolkien s The Fellowship of
the Ring it is shown that when people are tempted or given power they may become corrupt. We can
see this through the characters Frodo Baggins; the bearer of a powerful ring, Gollum, the previous
bearer, and lastly it is shown through Bilbo Baggins another bearer.
When given great power some people become corrupt. Frodo Baggins displays this in The Fellowship
of the Ring. He is trusted to hold and protect the one ring of power and immediately he develops traits
that show that he is becoming excessively protective of the ring. Frodo drew the Ring out of his

191). During this event Frodo is being attacked by enemies. At the same time the power of the ring is
tempting. He gives in because he is already corrupt with the power of the ring. This shows that when
he has the power he abuses it and becomes corrupt.
Gollum, previously known as Smeagol, is one of the first bearers of the ring of power, and when he
comes into the ring s presence for the first time, the power makes him so corrupt that to get his hands
on it he kills his friend Deagol. Smeagol had been watching him from behind a tree, and as Deagol
gloated over the ring, Smeagol came softly up behind. Give us that, Deagol, my love, said Smeagol,
over his friend s shoulder. Why? said Deagol. Because it s my birthday, my love, and I wants it, said
Smeagol. I don t care, said Deagol. I have given you a present already, more than I could afford. I
found this, and I m going to keep it. Oh, are you indeed, my love, said Smeagol; and he caught Deagol
by the throat and strangled him, because the gold looked so bright and beautiful. Then he put the ring
on his finger (Tolkein Pg. 52). This text shows that Gollum, or Smeagol, is corrupt due to the rings
power only by being around it. The need for the ring was so great that it pushed him to kill, a
devastating act on its own, but he kills his own friend. This proves that with the power of the ring
Gollum becomes immensely corrupt. After Gollum first obtains the ring he grows to feel a great hatred

Theme Of Human Relationships By Anita Desai
Anita Desai presents to reader her opinion about complexity of human relationships as a big
contemporary problem and human condition. At the level of inner consciousness words are not mere
meanings recorded in a dictionary but are symbolic which trigger feelings and meanings that an
individual draws out of one s subconscious storehouse. Her women characters make a reader look at
them with awe with their relationship to their surroundings, their society, their men, their children,
their families, their psychological make ups and themselves. Though not admittedly a feminist, Anita
Desai is well aware of the predicament of the Indian women and their relationship with men. Running
inward her fiction grapples with the intangible realities of life. Man woman relationship in the urban
society is her concern and in novel after novel she delves deeper and deeper in this dilemma. D.H.
Lawrence rightly points out that The great relationship for humanity will ... Show more content on

Anita Desai has added a new dimension to the achievement of Indian women writers in English fiction
through novels like Cry The Peacock, Voices In The City, Where Shall We Go This Summer, Fasting
Feasting, Fire On The Mountain and many more.
The contribution of Anita Desai is significant on account of the grater accent given to The inner
Climate which is more compelling than the outer weather (Srinivasa Iyengar, 464).
In her first novel Cry The Peacock, Anita Desai s style is tinted with a curious compatibility with her
theme, because the narrator happens to be a hypersensitive young become, tense and over wrought.
K.R. Srinivas Iyenger says, Cry The Peacock, the inner climate, the climate of sensibility that loud or

How Much Influence Has A Little Country Have On The Great...
Just how much influence could a little country have on the great United States of America? One may
be surprised. With a size slightly less than twice the size of New Jersey, Switzerland has a lot to offer
for its size (The World Factbook). The country is located in central Europe, north of Italy and east of
France, and shares their temperate climate. This landlocked terrain mostly consists of mountains, with
a central plateau of rolling hills, plains, and large lakes (The World Factbook). Despite their relatively
small size and their centralized location, they have a large influence on the rest of the world.
Specifically to the United States, the Swiss have brought their culture, merchandise, and services to
share with the people of America. Switzerland has a relatively short history. In 1291 A.D., the Swiss
Confederation was founded as a defense alliance between three cantons of modern day Uri, Schwyz,
and Unterwalden (Schelbert). Wars of conquest and arranged alliances grew the confederation
(Schelbert). In 1499, the Confederation gained its independence from the Holy Roman Empire (The
World Factbook). In 1515, the now 13 canton confederation ended their expansion with their defeat in
northern Italy at the battle of Marignano (Schelbert). The Swiss Confederation then started conducting
the practice of armed neutrality (Schelbert). Despite this neutrality, the Protestant Reformation had the
people of the Confederation split into hostile camps and threatened the

The Tone Of August Wilson
The tone that August Wilson uses is an approachable and lofty blend at the same time. To begin with
the protagonist of fences, Troy is a mindful man whose dreams are obstructed, this makes him have
confidence in self made fantasies. The play first begins with an entertaining story about his struggle
with a personified Death character.
In addition to this Troy has the ability to live in a fictitious world, denying his affair with Alberta. Troy
instigates conflict as a result of his ability to believe in self made illusions and his inability to
acknowledge other s decisions in life when they vary from Troy s own philosophy. Troy s name
symbolically exhibits Troy s character as one who lives on a line between two contradicting thoughts.
Troy Maxson begins the play loved, admired and getting away with his secret affair. Yet, inevitably,
Troy s death leaves many negative characteristics as a legacy for his family to deal with and
acknowledge.
Although this may be true, the setting is set in the dirt yard of the Maxson house. All this seems
notable that the Maxson s aren t the richest people in town. Clearly, the set remind us that money is a
constant concern for Troy and his family. They relay in Troy s salary as garbage collector.
Furthermore, we see that August Wilson did name his play Fences because of the dramatic action
depends strongly on the building of a fence in the Maxson s backyard. The character s lives change
around the fence which serves as both a literal and a

Short Story Of Where The Red Fern Grows
A story about an adventurous kid his hounds hunting, winning competitions and facing death
In the beginning of the story Where The Red Fern Grows a boy named Billy saw a group of dogs
fighting on the street. Billy stopped the dogs from fighting and noticed a red hound all beat up. He
took the hound home, fed him, washed him, and released him. This made him remember his old days
of owning a hound.
When Billy was 10 he wanted two hunting hounds but his family couldn t afford it. Billy had a
sickness called puppy love so he couldn t help asking for puppies. One day he saved and worked for
his money to get two puppy hounds. He named the dogs Old Dan and Little Ann. Billy and his dogs
had so many adventures of hunting racoons. Billy once caught a ghost racoon that has never been
caught before all thanks to his dogs. Billy s dogs help him become a coon hunting expert! The dogs
would never let a coon go even if it was a stormy night. Old Dan and Little Ann were Billy s best
friends. They would always stick together and never leave each other.
One day Billy s grandfather signed him up for a racoon hunting competition. Billy was super excited
and his dogs were too. Papa, grandpa, and the hounds all went hunting with Billy. They all stayed at a

Growing up as a kid in a house of 7 brothers and 2 sisters mama always told us you can never really
thank anyone enough for anything they do for you no matter how little or how big. Sitting back years
later pondering on the importance of showing appreciation... I finally really understood what she
really meant. Before, I came to the point of Enlightenment. I usually weigh whatever someone does to
me and appreciate them in that measure. If I get a little help from you I show minimal appreciation
and if I got a lot of help from you then I show a whole lot of appreciation. I used to watch mama go
extra lengths just to show gratitude... she still thanks a friend 5 years after he lent her a little helping
hand when the chips were down. One day I just muttered to her why mama... Why do you always
show so much appreciation even when someone does a little thing like pick up your grocery or even
holds a door open when you walk through? she stared at me intently and said Michael, Showing
appreciation goes a long way in life...Learn to

In Bryce Courtenay s The Power of One, The killing of Granpa Chook was a traumatic moment for
Peekay. His only friend at school symbolized companionship and comfort, and Peekay cared deeply
for him. It was amongst the low points of his horrifying boarding school experience, and the events
surrounding the chicken s death displayed the cruelty of the world to Peekay. Most importantly,
however, it revealed the extreme loyalty and bravery of the future welterweight champion. Granpa
Chook may have been a mere chicken to the uninitiated, but was important to Peekay. Granpa Chook

willingness to sacrifice himself for others appears first here but is not a one time occurrence. It was a

Change In Health Care Policy
Impact of changes from change in health care policy
Discussion 3 In chapter three of the Estes Healthcare policy, she explores the healthcare reforms now
and in the future. Her analysis borrows from other studies that had been done to explore the
implications of the healthcare reforms to all the stakeholders. The article explores the implications of
the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act, Medicaid and Children`s Health Insurance Program
Provisions, and Community Living Assistance, Services and Support Act. The changes would have
significant changes in the healthcare delivery systems. One of the implications of the changes would
be decreased quality of healthcare. The program aimed to increase the number of the insured people
and the number of the people accessing basic healthcare in the US. The inclusion of the economically
challenged in the care program stimulated the need for reduced contribution to the model. The
decreased contribution to the program translated to decreased payments of the services offered in the
clinics by the insurer. To operate effectively with the reduced payments, the clinics adopted designs of
healthcare delivery or advanced practices that are aligned to the amount paid by the insurer that

The Pros And Cons Of Redundancy
Redundancy: This is a legal term that arises where an individual is either dismissed, put on short term
or lay off (Grimes and Horgan, 1988), although this is done because of the legal implications and
employers don t like to be sued by employees for such reasons because of the lump sum accrued to it
as damages or penalty. There are identifiable reasons for such act which could be either the employer
has intended to cease to carry on business or the reason for employment of the individual no longer
exists (fewer persons are required). Nonetheless, the employee (provided he has satisfied the Social
Welfare Act of 1952 (as amended) must be employed by the employer for minimum of 2 years and
must be insured under the Social Welfare Act) is able to establish a ground of redundancy, and it
behoves the employer to justify the selection of redundancy is genuine and in a fair manner(Faulkner,
2008), if not, the damages paid is a sum payment to the employee, calculated by reference to the

Tai Chi Flexibility Exercise
The Effects of a Tai Chi Exercise Program on Static Postural Balance, Flexibility, and Lower Limb
Strength
Joseph Harwood
February 25th, 2016 Falling in the elderly is often due to poor balance which results from decreased
muscular strength, flexibility, and coordination (Yu and Yang, 2012). This loss of muscular strength
and flexibility in seniors is thought to be due to a lack of exercise (Saravanakumar et al., 2014). One
popular form of exercise among seniors is Tai Chi because it is a positive method for improving
balance and flexibility; which can reduce the occurrence of falling in the elderly (Yu and Yang, 2012).
The flowing, meditative movements performed during Tai Chi are great for fostering health and well
being (Yang G. et al., ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

moves are performed, supplemental links will be given to free instructional videos found online. If any
of the subjects that participate in the Tai Chi program are currently involved in another exercise
program, they will be required to sign a form stating they will continue performing their regular
exercise in addition to the Tai Chi program so that their final measurements do not significantly differ

The Day Of School
Hensley Riiiiiiiing! My alarm went off, waking me for another day of school. Rolling out of bed, i
caught one whiff of myself before jumping straight into the shower. I closed my eyes, and let the hot
streams of water roll off of my shoulders, savoring the precious time before I had to drag myself to
school. It isn t that school comes hard to me, because it doesn t. Friends roll in my wake, making me
one of the most popular girls in school, and I hate it. Everyone is so fake! Most of my so called friends
only liked me for my popularity, money, and looks. I can t go a day without hearing, I just LOVE your
hair, or even better, I wish I was you. Honestly, you don t want to be me. It s rare for me to see my
parents for more than a few minutes each day. They re so wrapped up in their work that my nanny was
the one who taught me to swim, ride a bike, and do all the other things most parents wait their whole
lives to witness. Looking in the mirror, I stare into my emerald green eyes, and gently touch my
platinum blond hair. The person I am is not the person that I want to be. Corban Some say that I ve
suffered more than a person my age should. Maybe I have, but I make it work. My father s death was
the hardest one that I had to face. Luckily, my mom is as tough as a rock, and refused to let our lives

Juan Rulfo s Pedro Paramo
The main universal theme of Pedro Paramo is that death is inevitable. This is shown by the fact that
everyone is dead in Comala. The author of Pedro Paramo is Juan Rulfo, he was born in Sayula,
Mexico. His book collections such as The Burning Plain (1953) and the book Pedro Paramo made him
a big literary figure. In Pedro Paramo, Juan is sent on a journey to find his father (Pedro which who
the book is written after) who sent his mom away because she kept asking continually to see her sister.
Juan gets to Comala where he meets Abundio (the Mule driver) who sends him to Dorotea. Juan ends
up dying of fear from the voices and shadows and dead people. Juan Rulfo, author of Pedro Paramo,

laughing. Laughter that sounds used up. And voices worn away by the years Sound like that. But I
think the day will come when those sounds fade away (Rulfo 41). This quote supports the tone by
offering that one day it might Fade away Damiana Cisneros assumes that this will happen through
time. In this scene Damiana takes Juan to tell him that Comala is filled with voices and when one time
she heard a fiesta and it was no one there and how her sister Sistina Begs for her to pray for her. The
following quote uses the symbol voices to express a gloomy tone. Because he feared the nights that
filled the darkness with phantoms that locked him in with his ghosts. That was his fear (Rulfo

ghosts for a night (voices). In this part of the book Pedro is killed by his own son Abundio the mule

‘Prohibition’s successes outweighed its failures in the...
The prohibition era was the period in the US when the manufacture, sale and transportation of liquor
were banned. To completely eliminate alcohol from society was always going to be an impossible task
due to the limited amounts of prohibition officers and the easy manner in which illegal alcohol could
be made and old, so in that aspect of its ambition it failed. However it was able to reduce alcoholism,
and as a result of prohibition fewer arrests for drunkenness were recorded. With those thoughts in
mind, it is important to remember that whist some positives came from Prohibition, the negatives that
came from the policy were far greater and more significant, so therefore it becomes nigh on
impossible to call it a success. The ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The government and federal enforcement also experienced moderate success in the attempt to uphold
the laws of prohibition, with agents such as Izzy Einstein and Moe Smith making over 4000 arrests
and seizing over 15m dollars worth of illegal liquor. With the only access to alcohol being through
gangster organisations and speakeasies, many people turned to soft drinks as a new social drink.
Consequently this lead to a boom in the soft drink industry with companies In an alternative aspect,
there were several reasons as to why the success of Prohibition was limited. Firstly, there were huge
logistical problems to the policy, with America having 18,700 miles of coastline and land border. This
meant that bootlegging became a big issue with 215m dollars worth of alcohol being transported
across the land border between Detroit and Canada, and thus ultimately the supply of alcohol coming
into the country was never restricted and so the American public still had access to a plentiful supply
of alcohol. The fact that before prohibition Washington DC had 300 bars, but by the mid 1920s it had
over 700 speakeasies, substantiates the point that alcohol supply actually increased during prohibition.

professional level if they are exceptional athletes. On the professional level, participants not only get

There are three goals for changing sports, the conservative goal, reformist goal and the radical goal.
The conservative goal is growth, the idea that sports should constantly be strengthened and expanded
in their current forms. The reformist goal is improvement, the idea that foundations of sport should be
restored, maintained with participation opportunities should arise. Lastly the radical goal is
transformation, the idea that sports must be reorganized or replaced to create a new meaning and/or
purpose. My preference of these three goals is first the reformist goal, then radical goal, and lastly the
conservative goal. I like to think of these three goals as such (reformist goal + conservative goal=
radical goal). I chose the reformist goal first because i feel like when it comes to organized sports,
each participant should have equal opportunity. The reformist goal will take away the access of
cheating, deviance and drug use which will put everyone on the same playing field and the same
chance to prove themselves. It will also clean the image of organized sports being biased. Next, i
chose the conservative goal because it will feed off of the reformist goal. Once you change the status
of the sport, you will have to give it room to grow, hence the conservative goal. By doing this you will
increase the resources participants to reach success which will directly help society. The more that
society see participants are thriving in sports the more willing people will

Ctx And Osteoporosis
CTX and NTX are collagen degradation products from the C terminal and N terminal regions on the
cross links in type 1 collagen (Kujath 2011). The CTX consists of two isomeric forms, the native
(αCTX) and the age related (ß CTX) (Chopin et al. 2012; Seibel 2005). Bone resorption by osteoclasts
is overwhelmingly a cathepsin K driven process and metalloproteinase play an important but small
role in the resorption process; Only cathepsin K produces CTX and NTX fragments whereas only
metalloproteinase produce ICTP fragments (Rissanen 2013). This is a measure of the breakdown of

October 2000. The London based consumer goods company Diageo had recently announced its
intention to sell its packaged food subsidiary, Pillsbury, to General Mills. Earlier in the year, Diageo
also announced its intent to sell 20% of its Burger King subsidiary through an initial public offering

The firm was organized along four business segments. The largest was the Spirits and Wine business,
which produced and marketed a portfolio of beverage alcohol such as scotch, vodka, gin, and tequila.
Diageo s brands included Johnnie Walker, Smirnoff, J B, Bailey s, Gordon s, Tanqueray,
Cuervo, and Malibu. This division was not only the biggest (with revenues of £5 billion and the
leading market share in the U.S. and U.K. markets) but also the fastest growing of Diageo s
businesses, with sales growth of 8% for the year. More than 70% of sales and sales growth came from
the Europe and North

operating margins and growth in total operating profits of 15%. The high levels of operating profits
reflected Diageo s strategy of concentrating on premium brands and pricing. (Exhibits 1 and 2 contain
historical financial information for Diageo and its business segments.)
Diageo s second largest division was Guinness Brewing, which produced and sold beer to markets
around the world. This segment, while substantially smaller in sales than the Spirits and Wine
Division, was a close second to it in terms of operating profit growth rate. Due to the similarity in the
products and distribution channels for these two businesses, Diageo was

Jigsaw Vs 3 Movies
In the past 10 years, it seems that every film coming out in the summer is a new film to start a
franchise, or yet another sequel in a franchise universe. Hell, there are films in low budget horror
franchises that are going on their 3rd films. I don t even want to mention there s yet another Saw film
called Jigsaw that is due to be released pretty soon.
Just as I predicted the downfall of 3D films in 2015, I predict that the major success of franchise films
will eventually wither away for a good while. Why? A good thing can only last so long before people
get tired of it. Do you love pizza? Of course you do. Would you love to work at a pizza place where
you get to eat pizza all the time? Hell yeah you would. But after a few months you ... Show more

That is a terrible start for a cinematic universe with the help of Tom Cruise.
What movies we did get this year were some fantastic original films. Baby Driver, Dunkirk, The Big
Sick, and Wind River. All of these films made a lot of money each, and they all got phenomenal
reviews. Why? Because people didn t know what to expect. You can go into a Marvel film and be
wowed by the visuals, but you know they re all paint by numbers with different paint brushes.
Not only are those original films crushing it at the box office, an increasingly growing movement of
horror films are cleaning up at the box office. Like IT, small budget horror films can bring in the
crowds with little money. The movie The Conjuring made $318 million on a budget of $20 million (I
get that it has become a franchise, but they re still low budget and earn major bucks). The movie
Annabelle made $256.9 million on a budget of $6.5 million. I couldn t tell you one person who stars,
wrote, or directed any of those movies. There are a dozen more examples, but you get my point.
What further makes these franchise films start to get weighed down with costs are the actors. No one
really cares about A list actors anymore in films. I don t go see a superhero film because of a certain
actor is in it, no, I go and see it because of the action and comic book story. Have you heard about any
films beyond Iron Man that Robert Downey Jr. did that did well in theaters

Student Nonviolent Coordinating Committee Case Study
The Student Nonviolent Coordinating Committee was founded in 1960, this organization was a civil
rights group made up of African American college students. With the midwife of this organization Ella
Baker s decentralized leadership, and participatory democracy they adhered to the ideology of
nonviolence. The SNCC was at the center of a movement that changed the nation, but as time went
they abandoned the use of nonviolence and the ideal of interracial collaboration transforming from a
beloved community, changing to black power, due to events taken place eventually some of its
members would have to leave.
The SNCC organization was first made up of African American college students but after the launch
of the front counter sit in movement they gain support from many others to include non students,
whites, northerners, and southerners that became members. The SNCC participated in many
movements, the Freedom Rides gaining attention after their integrated bus was mobbed by over 1,000
white racist, hospitalizing all that was on the bus. They established projects in areas such as
Mississippi which was considered too dangerous by other organizations and the SNCC was soon

Elimintating the Electoral College Essay examples
Elimintating the Electoral College
Judging by the way things are looking with this year s election, the Electoral College is not benefiting
American citizens. People fight both sides of the system, but the truth of the matter is that although the
Electoral College has been in place for over 200 years, Americans are still not sure how it works or if
it is the best method. Our country is supposed to be a symbol of democracy, but to this day, American
elections are not truly democratic, for there are no direct Presidential elections.
The Electoral College is the constitutional system for the election of the president and vice president
of the United Sates. It is the collective name for a group of electors, nominated by political ... Show

But this year, that is not the case. The media frequently refer to this year s presidential election as one
of the most competitive in recent history, perhaps since 1960 when Kennedy won with 34,227,096
popular votes to Nixon s 34,107,646. In the final sprint of the marathon 2000 presidential campaign,
Democratic nominee Al Gore and Republican nominee George W. Bush are neck and neck.
Particularly in a contest close as this one, the Electoral College warps national politics and could lead
to a major constitutional crisis. So, with a race this tight, it is entirely conceivable that one candidate
may win the popular vote and still lose the election. This would mark the first time since 1888 that the
president elect lost the popular vote. Since it has happened three times before in American history, in
1824, 1876 and 1888, it could certainly happen again. In 1824, John Quincy Adams received fewer
electoral votes and fewer popular votes than his opponent Andrew Jackson but won the election when
the House of Representatives favored him by six state votes. Then again, in 1876, Rutherford B.
Hayes beat Samuel J. Tilden with just one electoral vote in spite of having lost the popular vote. It was
a contentious victory because the electoral votes of four states were disputed until eventually

Sir Arthur Conan Doyle. Conan
In the history of British literature, Sir Arthur Conan Doyle ranks highly amongst the most famous
authors of all time. Mention his name, and most people will immediately think of one thing; Sir Arthur
Conan Doyle equates to Sherlock Holmes.
Sir Arthur Conan Doyle was certainly much more than his most famous creation, and away from his
most famous creation, his life was full of interesting and strange facts and events.
NAME
It is common to see Sir Arthur Conan Doyle s name shortened to just Conan Doyle, Conan though,
was not part of his surname, and was in fact just one of his two middle names. Conan Doyle s full
name was Sir Arthur Ignatius Conan Doyle. It was only when he started his professional career that

Specifically, Conan Doyle was an eye specialist, having been an undergraduate at Edinburgh
University from 1876 to 1881.
After completing his time at Edinburgh University, Conan Doyle undertook work as a ship s doctor,
ran doctor s practices in Birmingham, Plymouth, Portsmouth and London, and he even went to Vienna
briefly to continue his studying.
The south coast of England would often prove to be home to Conan Doyle, and for a long period he
lived in Hindhead; and when he died of heart attack, aged 71, in 1930, Conan Doyle was buried in
Minstead.
SPORT
The practices run by Conan Doyle were not particularly successful, and so Conan Doyle would often
find that he had plenty of spare time to indulge in other interests, including writing and playing sport.
It is often said that Conan Doyle is one of the world s most famous goalkeepers; Conan Doyle though
played for the amateur side Portsmouth Association Football Club, and not the more famous
Portsmouth FC as is often said as fact. Portsmouth FC was founded in 1898, whilst Portsmouth AFC
operated from 1884 to 1896.
In 1893, Conan Doyle would briefly move to Switzerland, staying in Davos. Here he started taking
part in the brand new winter sport of skiing, being one of the very first from Britain to try it. Conan
Doyle would write enthusiastically about it, and is

Thistle Sifter Case Study
Thistle sifter. I am a thistle sifter. I have a sieve of sifted thistles and a sieve of unsifted thistles.
Because I am a thistle sifter. This was one of many pivotal drills used in the rehabilitation of king
Georges stammer, a drill we commonly know as a tongue twister. Lionel incorporates this tactic in
hopes that it relaxes Albert s jaw muscles and strengthens his tongue. Conversely, experts Albert
attended earlier sought to strengthen the tongue with extremely unorthodox methods. One doctor
made him put 7 tiny metal balls in his mouth while he spoke, in hopes that the weight would
strengthen his mouth. Experts believe, tongue twisters refine enunciation skills and thus potentially
aide someone who stammers. Lionel also stressed the need to strengthen the diaphragm, a muscle

where the routines differ. Singing and speaking with music were also aspects of Lionels therapy that
played a major role. It was through both of these activities that Albert gained confidence in his
speaking abilities, because he was able to hear himself talk without a stammer. The use of the music
was also the defining tool that made Albert agree to undergo Lionels rehabilitation process. Lionel
stress s that physical excises and tricks are important, but that they will only deal with the surface of
the problem. He urges Albert to be open with him and that he answer specific questions about his past,
that may help uncover mental trauma. It is a process that at first Albert is reluctant to attempt, however

Comparing Ways in Which Celebrities are Presented in Two Tabloid Newspapers
I will be focusing on the representation of celebrities in two newspapers, the Daily Mail and the Daily
Star. I chose these newspapers as one is a redtop and one a blacktop. The Daily Mail is a blacktop,
these are generally aimed at the higher classes as they contain more challenging language, and are for
perhaps more intellectual people. From this newspaper I chose £2m bland bombshell (3rd January

aimed at the lower classes. It uses more simple, colloquial language, as this is generally the language

I am going to explore whose interests seem to be served in the articles I chose.
£2m bland bombshell tells of how Barker has gone from little known interior designer to one of the
most recognised faces on TV , even though she seemed destined to be C List . On this article,
practically the entire page is taken up by images of Barker compared to relatively little writing. The
pictures show all of her recent projects through which she has gained large sums of money. There are
10 images in total, each showing how much money she received from them, these could be shown to
emphasise just how many features Barker has appeared in and how much she has gained from them.
The article also grabs the readers attention, as there are so many pictures. This could also put more of
an emphasis on her looks, she is quite good looking and this may attract more readers.
The article on Barker is largely covered with images of her various projects. There are no shots in
which she comes across badly and she is posing in all of them. There are no pictures of her outside her
advertisements in her normal everyday life. This could suggest that advertising is her life, and she
does nothing but try and make more money. The pictures, which take up around 5/6 of the page,
emphasise just how many programmes she has been involved with. The

Even though the hunter is helpful, he is somewhat threatening. He then drops a nickel in which Phoenix picks it up without him noticing. Then he points a gun at her, and she stood straight and faced him when he did so. When he asked if she was afraid of the gun, she replied, No, sir, I seen plenty go off closer by, in my day, and for less than what I done (DiYanni). The hunter even replied that she is scared of nothing, and she goes on her way. Her perception of these obstacles emphasizes her intense physical, mental, and moral effort to complete this journey (Heller). • 4. Iron Thermal Conductivity And Thermal Expansion Aluminium is a very reactive metal with high affinity for oxygen but the metal is highly resistant to most environments and to a great variety of chemical agents. This resistance is due to the inert and protective character of the aluminium oxide film which forms on the metal surface. Welding of aluminium still represents a critical operation due to its complexity and the high level of defect that can be produced in the joint. The main problems are related to the properties of aluminium. They are: High thermal conductivity and thermal expansion. High chemical reactivity with oxygen. High hydrogen solubility at high temperature. All this factors can cause presence of defects on the weld bead; like high thermal conductivity and high thermal expansion can cause distortions in the weld, high chemical reactivity with oxygen may include inclusions and porosity in the weld, high hydrogen solubility at high temperature may cause hydrogen embrittlement or hydrogen induced cracking. The Friction Stir Welding (FSW) represents a possible solution. Friction stir welding (FSW) is a new solid state joining technique which was invented by The Welding Institute (TWI) in 1991.This technique is now increasingly used to join high strength aluminium alloys such as 2xxx, 6xxx, 7xxx and 8xxx series. It is used in various fields such as aerospace, automotive and marine industries. This technique is attractive for joining high strength aluminium alloys since there is far lower heat input ... Two most significant treaties which have importance to the legislative process are The Treaty on European Union and the Treaty on the functioning of the European Union. The Parliament can take different approaches within the three month timeframe. The Parliament can reject the Council s perception if they do so then the act would be considered not to have been implemented. This is known as veto and prevents the bill becoming law. However in order for this procedure to take place there must be a majority vote of the component members of parliament. Or they can vote an majority vote to propose the amendments of the future legislation which the council has proposed. In my opinion I think that it is beneficial that the parliament can chose to make the law veto as personally the parliament members are for the citizens of the European Union therefore as they have the power of veto then they can ensure fair and effective legislation is introduced into Europe and not just any old law which is only really benefiting members of the Council. Hip Hop Masculinity Connecting Masculinity to Hip Hop as an entire movement Hip Hop originated in the 1970 s, and during that period the genre was known as a means through which African Americans could speak their minds and state their opinions and concerns about important issues in their communities and society. However hip hop has immensely changed since its creation to what it is now, as a result of its profit oriented nature. Even though a few aspects of the original old school hip hop are still recognized and practiced in today s mainstream rap, the genre as a whole has come to be known for revolving around the common themes of violence, drug use, promiscuity, fashion, and materialism. In reality, today s mainstream hip hop is based on the beliefs of what ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Female MC s accept a variety of different fashion trends and masculine mannerisms in hip hop, whether it s the hyper sexuality in their lyrics or music videos or they are taking on masculine personas. Female MC s like Da Brat are known for their more masculine appearances. Typically, other female MC s often take the other route. The success rate of music in the hip hop industry has been proven to tie into hyper sexualized images and female MC s are forced to comply with the sexism of the genre. These women do this by referring to themselves and other women as bitches , and hoes along with explicitly talking about sexual acts and fantasies. However, most of these sexual fantasies are in the male s perspective. Female MC s also give in to the superficial beliefs of the genre. For example, rapper Nicki Minaj collaborated with Drake in the song Up all Night, where she bragged, I make the kind of money that make a broke bitch bitter...Which bitch you know made a million off a mixtape? • 7. Waterstreet The Gin Game Analysis Acting is all about the movement of your body and your soul. Music, visual and stage arts, all of these are all able to express deep messages without the use of oral talk. Sign language is the one of a kind language which uses body motion and facial expressions to communicate with others. I m glad I had a second chance in life like you said to be smart because I learned a lot of things that I never knew were in this world, and I m grateful I saw it even for a little bit (Keys, 119). This quote describes both books because they are narrated in unusual ways which make us view the book in a different way than we would have under normal circumstances. Every time. It s his only detriment. He steps on my heart. He makes me cry (Zusak, 329). Gollum, previously known as Smeagol, is one of the first bearers of the ring of power, and when he comes into the ring s presence for the first time, the power makes him so corrupt that to get his hands on it he kills his friend Deagol. Smeagol had been watching him from behind a tree, and as Deagol gloated over the ring, Smeagol came softly up behind. Give us that, Deagol, my love, said Smeagol, over his friend s shoulder. Why? said Deagol. Because it s my birthday, my love, and I wants it, said Smeagol. I don t care, said Deagol. I have given you a present already, more than I could afford. Then he put the ring on his finger (Tolkein Pg. 52). This text shows that Gollum, or Smeagol, is corrupt due to the rings power only by being around it. • 12. Theme Of Human Relationships By Anita Desai Anita Desai presents to reader her opinion about complexity of human relationships as a big contemporary problem and human condition. At the level of inner consciousness words are not mere meanings recorded in a dictionary but are symbolic which trigger feelings and meanings that an individual draws out of one s subconscious storehouse. Her women characters make a reader look at them with awe with their relationship to their surroundings, their society, their men, their children, their families, their psychological make ups and themselves. Though not admittedly a feminist, Anita Desai is well aware of the predicament of the Indian women and their relationship with men. To begin with the protagonist of fences, Troy is a mindful man whose dreams are obstructed, this makes him have confidence in self made fantasies. The play first begins with an entertaining story about his struggle with a personified Death character. In addition to this Troy has the ability to live in a fictitious world, denying his affair with Alberta. Troy instigates conflict as a result of his ability to believe in self made illusions and his inability to acknowledge other s decisions in life when they vary from Troy s own philosophy. Troy s name symbolically exhibits Troy s character as one who lives on a line between two contradicting thoughts. Troy Maxson begins the play loved, admired and getting away with his secret affair. Yet, inevitably, Troy s death leaves many negative characteristics as a legacy for his family to deal with and acknowledge. Although this may be true, the setting is set in the dirt yard of the Maxson house. All this seems notable that the Maxson s aren t the richest people in town. The conservative goal is growth, the idea that sports should constantly be strengthened and expanded in their current forms. The reformist goal is improvement, the idea that foundations of sport should be restored, maintained with participation opportunities should arise. Lastly the radical goal is transformation, the idea that sports must be reorganized or replaced to create a new meaning and/or purpose. My preference of these three goals is first the reformist goal, then radical goal, and lastly the conservative goal. I like to think of these three goals as such (reformist goal + conservative goal= radical goal). I chose the reformist goal first because i feel like when it comes to organized sports, each participant should have equal opportunity. The reformist goal will take away the access of cheating, deviance and drug use which will put everyone on the same playing field and the same chance to prove themselves. It will also clean the image of organized sports being biased. Next, i chose the conservative goal because it will feed off of the reformist goal. Once you change the status of the sport, you will have to give it room to grow, hence the conservative goal. By doing this you will increase the resources participants to reach success which will directly help society. The more that society see participants are thriving in sports the more willing people will ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 27. Ctx And Osteoporosis CTX and NTX are collagen degradation products from the C terminal and N terminal regions on the cross links in type 1 collagen (Kujath 2011). The CTX consists of two isomeric forms, the native (αCTX) and the age related (ß CTX) (Chopin et al. 2012; Seibel 2005). Bone resorption by osteoclasts is overwhelmingly a cathepsin K driven process and metalloproteinase play an important but small role in the resorption process; Only cathepsin K produces CTX and NTX fragments whereas only metalloproteinase produce ICTP fragments (Rissanen 2013). This is a measure of the breakdown of bone. Serum and urine CTX and NTX levels are markedly increased in patients with postmenopausal osteoporosis, whereas ICTP seems to be more ... Primary osteoporosis is can be further divided into two subtypes: (a) type I osteoporosis (also known as postmenopausal osteoporosis), which is a common bone disorder in postmenopausal women and is mainly due to estrogen deficiency resulting from menopause, and (b) type II osteoporosis (also referred to as age related osteoporosis or senile osteoporosis), which is related mainly with aging in both women and men (Feng and Mcdonald 2011). Women are more susceptible to osteoporosis than men ( Al Daghri et al. 2014). since postmenopausal women are affected by both factors of the lack of estrogen and later aging, they become the major sufferers in bone loss and result in much higher incidence of osteoporosis (Liong 2009). AUGUST 6, 2003 GEORGE CHACKO PETER TUFANO Diageo plc Ian Cray, Diageo plc s Treasurer, looked out of his office window onto the busy streets of London in October 2000. The London based consumer goods company Diageo had recently announced its intention to sell its packaged food subsidiary, Pillsbury, to General Mills. Earlier in the year, Diageo also announced its intent to sell 20% of its Burger King subsidiary through an initial public offering during 2001, to be followed by a spin off of the remainder of Burger King after December 2002. If these transactions took place, the firm would be focused exclusively on the beverage alcohol industry. As Diageo s business was restructured, it was an opportune ... The largest was the Spirits and Wine business, which produced and marketed a portfolio of beverage alcohol such as scotch, vodka, gin, and tequila. Diageo s brands included Johnnie Walker, Smirnoff, J B, Bailey s, Gordon s, Tanqueray, Cuervo, and Malibu. This division was not only the biggest (with revenues of £5 billion and the leading market share in the U.S. and U.K. markets) but also the fastest growing of Diageo s businesses, with sales growth of 8% for the year. More than 70% of sales and sales growth came from the Europe and North America markets. This segment enjoyed the largest profit margins of all of the segments, with 15% operating margins and growth in total operating profits of 15%. The high levels of operating profits reflected Diageo s strategy of concentrating on premium brands and pricing. (Exhibits 1 and 2 contain historical financial information for Diageo and its business segments.) Diageo s second largest division was Guinness Brewing, which produced and sold beer to markets around the world. This segment, while substantially smaller in sales than the Spirits and Wine Division, was a close second to it in terms of operating profit growth rate. • 29. Jigsaw Vs 3 Movies In the past 10 years, it seems that every film coming out in the summer is a new film to start a franchise, or yet another sequel in a franchise universe. Hell, there are films in low budget horror franchises that are going on their 3rd films. I don t even want to mention there s yet another Saw film called Jigsaw that is due to be released pretty soon. Just as I predicted the downfall of 3D films in 2015, I predict that the major success of franchise films will eventually wither away for a good while. Why? A good thing can only last so long before people get tired of it. Do you love pizza? Of course you do. Would you love to work at a pizza place where you get to eat pizza all the time? Hell yeah you would. But after a few months you ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... That is a terrible start for a cinematic universe with the help of Tom Cruise. What movies we did get this year were some fantastic original films. Baby Driver, Dunkirk, The Big Sick, and Wind River. All of these films made a lot of money each, and they all got phenomenal reviews. Why? Because people didn t know what to expect. You can go into a Marvel film and be wowed by the visuals, but you know they re all paint by numbers with different paint brushes. Not only are those original films crushing it at the box office, an increasingly growing movement of horror films are cleaning up at the box office. Like IT, small budget horror films can bring in the crowds with little money. The movie The Conjuring made $318 million on a budget of $20 million (I get that it has become a franchise, but they re still low budget and earn major bucks). The movie Annabelle made $256.9 million on a budget of $6.5 million. I couldn t tell you one person who stars, wrote, or directed any of those movies. There are a dozen more examples, but you get my point. What further makes these franchise films start to get weighed down with costs are the actors. No one really cares about A list actors anymore in films. I don t go see a superhero film because of a certain actor is in it, no, I go and see it because of the action and comic book story. Student Nonviolent Coordinating Committee Case Study The Student Nonviolent Coordinating Committee was founded in 1960, this organization was a civil rights group made up of African American college students. With the midwife of this organization Ella Baker s decentralized leadership, and participatory democracy they adhered to the ideology of nonviolence. The SNCC was at the center of a movement that changed the nation, but as time went they abandoned the use of nonviolence and the ideal of interracial collaboration transforming from a beloved community, changing to black power, due to events taken place eventually some of its members would have to leave. The SNCC organization was first made up of African American college students but after the launch of the front counter sit in movement they gain support from many others to include non students, whites, northerners, and southerners that became members. The SNCC participated in many movements, the Freedom Rides gaining attention after their integrated bus was mobbed by over 1,000 white racist, hospitalizing all that was on the bus. • 31. Elimintating the Electoral College Essay examples Elimintating the Electoral College Judging by the way things are looking with this year s election, the Electoral College is not benefiting American citizens. People fight both sides of the system, but the truth of the matter is that although the Electoral College has been in place for over 200 years, Americans are still not sure how it works or if it is the best method. Our country is supposed to be a symbol of democracy, but to this day, American elections are not truly democratic, for there are no direct Presidential elections. The Electoral College is the constitutional system for the election of the president and vice president of the United Sates. It is the collective name for a group of electors, nominated by political ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... But this year, that is not the case. The media frequently refer to this year s presidential election as one of the most competitive in recent history, perhaps since 1960 when Kennedy won with 34,227,096 popular votes to Nixon s 34,107,646. In the final sprint of the marathon 2000 presidential campaign, Democratic nominee Al Gore and Republican nominee George W. Bush are neck and neck. Particularly in a contest close as this one, the Electoral College warps national politics and could lead to a major constitutional crisis. So, with a race this tight, it is entirely conceivable that one candidate may win the popular vote and still lose the election. This would mark the first time since 1888 that the president elect lost the popular vote. Since it has happened three times before in American history, in 1824, 1876 and 1888, it could certainly happen again. In 1824, John Quincy Adams received fewer electoral votes and fewer popular votes than his opponent Andrew Jackson but won the election when the House of Representatives favored him by six state votes. Then again, in 1876, Rutherford B. Hayes beat Samuel J. Tilden with just one electoral vote in spite of having lost the popular vote. It was a contentious victory because the electoral votes of four states were disputed until eventually ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Sir Arthur Conan Doyle was certainly much more than his most famous creation, and away from his most famous creation, his life was full of interesting and strange facts and events. The south coast of England would often prove to be home to Conan Doyle, and for a long period he lived in Hindhead; and when he died of heart attack, aged 71, in 1930, Conan Doyle was buried in Minstead. SPORT The practices run by Conan Doyle were not particularly successful, and so Conan Doyle would often find that he had plenty of spare time to indulge in other interests, including writing and playing sport. It is often said that Conan Doyle is one of the world s most famous goalkeepers; Conan Doyle though played for the amateur side Portsmouth Association Football Club, and not the more famous Portsmouth FC as is often said as fact. Portsmouth FC was founded in 1898, whilst Portsmouth AFC operated from 1884 to 1896. In 1893, Conan Doyle would briefly move to Switzerland, staying in Davos. This was one of many pivotal drills used in the rehabilitation of king Georges stammer, a drill we commonly know as a tongue twister. Lionel incorporates this tactic in hopes that it relaxes Albert s jaw muscles and strengthens his tongue. Conversely, experts Albert attended earlier sought to strengthen the tongue with extremely unorthodox methods. One doctor made him put 7 tiny metal balls in his mouth while he spoke, in hopes that the weight would strengthen his mouth. Experts believe, tongue twisters refine enunciation skills and thus potentially aide someone who stammers. Lionel also stressed the need to strengthen the diaphragm, a muscle integral to lung support and facilitating air flow. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Singing and speaking with music were also aspects of Lionels therapy that played a major role. It was through both of these activities that Albert gained confidence in his speaking abilities, because he was able to hear himself talk without a stammer. The use of the music was also the defining tool that made Albert agree to undergo Lionels rehabilitation process. Lionel stress s that physical excises and tricks are important, but that they will only deal with the surface of the problem. He urges Albert to be open with him and that he answer specific questions about his past, that may help uncover mental trauma. Comparing Ways in Which Celebrities are Presented in Two Tabloid Newspapers I will be focusing on the representation of celebrities in two newspapers, the Daily Mail and the Daily Star. I chose these newspapers as one is a redtop and one a blacktop. The Daily Mail is a blacktop, these are generally aimed at the higher classes as they contain more challenging language, and are for perhaps more intellectual people. From this newspaper I chose £2m bland bombshell (3rd January 2004), an article on the recent successes of TV star Linda Barker. The Daily Star is a redtop, therefore aimed at the lower classes. I am going to explore whose interests seem to be served in the articles I chose. £2m bland bombshell tells of how Barker has gone from little known interior designer to one of the most recognised faces on TV , even though she seemed destined to be C List . On this article, practically the entire page is taken up by images of Barker compared to relatively little writing. The pictures show all of her recent projects through which she has gained large sums of money. There are 10 images in total, each showing how much money she received from them, these could be shown to emphasise just how many features Barker has appeared in and how much she has gained from them. The article also grabs the readers attention, as there are so many pictures. This could also put more of an emphasis on her looks, she is quite good looking and this may attract more readers. The article on Barker is largely covered with images of her various projects. There are no shots in which she comes across badly and she is posing in all of them. There are no pictures of her outside her advertisements in her normal everyday life. This could suggest that advertising is her life, and she does nothing but try and make more money. The pictures, which take up around 5/6 of the page, emphasise just how many programmes she has been involved with. The ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
