Priceline Or Priceline.com ( Pcln )
Introduction
Priceline or Priceline.com (PCLN) is a travel agency that offers cruises, hotel rooms, airline tickets,
vacation packages, excursions and rental cars. The company s Name Your Own Price option offers its
customers an incredible proposition by allowing them to name their own price for any travel related
products or services. Priceline.com determines the lowest price it can accept, while the customer has
the discretion in the supplier selection. Priceline.com also provides a brand preserving sales service
that enables them to sell excess inventory without harming their existing retail pricing structure.
Priceline.com also has a more traditional travel sales model that allows customers to choose specific
suppliers and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Priceline operates as the middleman or broker bringing the two parties together in a seamless and
friendly manner. Priceline s revenue is a result of the difference between the Name Your Own Price
rate and the amount charged by the supplier for the service. Priceline also brings in revenues from a
more traditional travel agency model also available on its website. The oversaturation of the travel
industry has created never ending competition for Priceline. However, with the increase of
competition comes and increase of the amount of individuals willing to purchase products and
services over the internet. This positive relationship will help Priceline maintain its dominant market
share along with its unique and competitive business model and well known brand name.
Ownership and Management
All firms need skilled management to run properly and efficiently. The manager is in charge of
creating a firm s goals, plans to achieve said goals, and directing employees to successfully achieve
them. He/she must also recognize internal weaknesses and external threats. Forecasting potential
threats is included in external threats, and is vital to a firm s long run success. The role of a manager is
extremely demanding. Managers must have strong communication skills and an exceptional team first

Abortions Pros and Cons Essay
Nowadays, in this world, there are a lot of problems that can make tremendous conflicts for human
beings. They are very complicated and bring a lot of argument and nobody knows what the exact
answer is. They also have pros and cons. One of the most complex problems is abortion. This is due to
moral and ethical values which we all have. The majority of us are Christians or are brought up in that
kind of ambiance which means that as small children we were taught values that are based on the bible
such as that famous phrase Thou shall not kill . This phrase relates to this topic because an abortion is
the murder of a human being.

For the last 17 years, the Hyde Amendment has banned the use of federal funds for almost all
Medicaid abortions. The Hyde Amendment explicitly allows only two exceptions to this restriction:
(1) when the life of the woman is endangered or (2) in cases of rape or incest. Since all of this was
being approved we as a society thought that we could get rid of some of our social concerns. But it did
the complete opposite here are some examples Illegitimate births were at a 10.7% in 1970 and in 1990
it raised to 26.2% in 1990,Children with Single Mothers in 1970 was11% in 1990 was 22%, Violent
Crime Rate (per 100,000) in 1970 it was 36.4 2 and in 1990 it went up to a 73%, Teen Suicide Rate
was 5.9% and in 1990 it dramatically increased to a 11.3% , and lastly Children on Welfare 8.5% and
again that number managed to raise to a 11.9% according to (Catholic insight , May 2004 p28).
Some of the proposed solutions for this abortion dilemma are making adoption more open to our
current society. This is believed to help stop abortions incases in which the mother cannot support the
unborn child or she wants to avoid raising the unborn child past its birth. This would be an option for
almost anybody considering abortion. As for younger teenagers the promoting of abstinence rather
than the use of contraceptives. This option would be better because it is popular belief that promoting

Army Aviation Structure
I enjoyed your perspective and detailed breakdown of the methodology behind army aviation structure
and referencing it back to the support that army aviation operations deliver to one another across the
varying airframes and missions that they perform. The structure of army aviation entities do allow
them to be modular and tailorable to adjust to whatever mission or assignment they may find
themselves in. This view point was something I had not considered when I typed my discussion board
entry. Additionally, another aspect that was intriguing from your dissertation was the break down
between general support and direct support. You did a great job explaining the differences when you

An air assault is the movement of friendly assault forces by rotary wing aircraft to engage and destroy
enemy forces or to seize and hold key terrain (JP 3 18). These air assaults would not be an air assault
without the attack aviation element supporting them. Additionally, the use of Unmanned Aircraft
Systems support air assaults by providing continuous helicopter landing zone soaks prior to infill as
well as patterns of life observations. The attack aircraft that conduct quick reaction force operations
stationed at remoted forward operating bases rely on the utility and cargo aircraft to supply ammo,
fuel, POL, and parts to maintain flight operations. Again, Unmanned Aircraft Systems work directly
with the attack aviation platforms employing manned unmanned teaming concepts in order to dispatch
enemy elements. An air movement is the air transport of units, personnel, supplies, and equipment
including airdrops and air landings (JP 1 02). Security operations are those operations undertaken by
the commander to provide early and accurate warning of enemy operations to provide the force being
protected with the time and maneuver space to react to the enemy, and to develop the situation to
allow the commander to effectively employ the protected force (ADRP 3 90). The early and accurate
warnings and the intelligence that these operations provide ensures that the air movements are

Essay on The Simpsons Up Close and Personal
The Simpsons Up Close and Personal There is a fine line that exists in TV land that had never been
crossed until The Simpsons graced the television sets of over one million Americans. This sitcom has
become one of the most popular television programs in America. Is it because The Simpsons is a
cartoon? My answer is yes! This show is able to sneak through the wormholes of TV land because it is
a cartoon. People are overlooking the underlying issues conveyed through the characters because it s
only cartoons right? Wrong!
The Simpsons is a satirical sitcom that makes fun of everyday issues that Americans in today s society
are faced with. In a way this is a fabulous idea. Most television shows mask the reality of life, making

Homer is actually stealing from his place of employment. His job is to monitor energy use, and
document it precisely so American s are billed correctly for their energy use. He is working to prevent
exactly what he is doing wrong at home by stealing cable television. Many Americas could have been
watching this episode on their cable televisions. For those Americans who are actually stealing cable
television this episode will either consciously or unconsciously make those families think about what
they are doing is wrong. This is an intelligent way of conveying an important message to people. This
type of action is not acceptable behavior. This format is brilliant because it is actually funny but at the
same time very serious. Americans can relate to this issue and respond in a more understanding way
because this cartoon is more approachable when stealing is addressed in a humorous manner.
Hopefully, this will cause people to think twice about what they are actually doing.
Bart takes this whole idea of stealing the cable as an excellent opportunity to make a little cash by
inviting his peers to view the pornography channel at a cost of fifty cents per head. At first, this
appears to be hilarious because most people can relate to what Bart is doing. Yet it is not the fact that
Bart was selling pornography. Homer freaked out over Bart providing sexual viewing in his home

Nervous Conditions By Tsitisi Dangarembga
The analysis of unfair domination in the coming of age novel Nervous Conditions written by Tsitisi
Dangarembga, is based in 1960 s Rhodesia. The novel has a clear message of not only the struggle
that African people had to endure as a result of the colonization of the British Empire but also the
struggle of unfair domination. The novel perfectly paints the unfair picture of the lives of the black
community under a time of the white colonial rule. The dates in the novel indicate a bitter time period
of white hostility to black liberation. The focus of this essay will be based on a male and female
character from the novel who has suffered at the hands of unfair domination and how they attempt to
deal with this. . Partiarchy is one of the most important themes in Tsitisi Dangarembga s novels and

Maiguru is an educated women and stands out amongst the women in the novel as she is the only one
who is educated. But even so we are made aware of her entrapment on the very first page of the novel.
She happens to be the wife of Babmakuru who is a well respected man in the community. He is the
only educated male character in the novel and has been fortunate enough to travel abroad to obtain his
master s degree. Over and above this he is currently the headmaster of a mission school. . This makes
him an authoritative character in the novel. Not falling short of education is his wife Maiguru who
equally carries her master s degree obtained from abroad, but because of her gender she does not
receive the same respect as that of her husband. Unfair domination is clearly shown because even
though Maiguru has obtained the same level of education such as that of her husband, she is still only
seen as a mother and the wife of Babmakuru. This is certainly a gender division resulting from
cultural traditions practiced by many cultures even in present day

Suez Canal Crisis Analysis
Heavily influenced by foreign affairs, even as Canada grew more distinguished in their own
independence, international conflicts continued to be a leading factor in shaping Canada s identity as a
country. Canada s various stances when it comes to the Suez Canal, and First and Second Iraq wars,
are excellent examples of the progress Canada has made within their foreign policy, as they ve
developed as a country over time. Advancing further away from blindly following connected powers
like Britain and the United States, Canada finds its ways to show its uniqueness in the face of these
conflicts. The Suez Canal crisis of 1956 displayed a side of Canada previously unseen by the world.

Thesis For 13 Reasons Why
In the book, 13 Reasons Why, a girl name Hannah Baker mailed out tapes to a specific group of
people. If you received these tapes you were not in a good position. If you didn t listen to these tapes,
you were not starting off right. Reason being is because you are one of the reasons Hannah committed
suicide. Clay Jensen is one of the people who received the tapes. Unlike most people, he wanted to
know why she did it. He followed the map that was given to him previously, before the tapes were
mailed out. Throughout the book, his journey was to see what happened, how it happened and who
caused it. Clay Jensen, the protagonist of 13 reasons why by Jay Asher and I are alike in many ways.

Diego Velázquez – Las Meninas (1656-57)
Introduction
Las Meninas was Velázquez s largest oeuvre measuring 3.21 m by 2.81 m (Umberger 96). Velázquez s
masterpiece is one that draws sharp criticism ranging from those who find this work as a complete
piece with its pictorial features prominent in the artwork, to those who find it hard to interpret its
content conclusively (Ancell 159 160; Snyder 542+; Steinberg 48; Bongiorni 88). Despite such
disparities, Velázquez s masterpiece was able to project a day in the life of the royal family while at
the same time achieving his artistic ideal. This work explores this artwork in light of the royal family
and personal gratification by Velázquez as a celebrated artist.

The first maid of honor is Don ̀a María Augustustina Sarmiento. María offers Margarita a drink while
kneeling down as a sign of her paying homage to the position Margarita holds in the royal family. The
second maid of honor is Don ̀a Isabel de Velasco stands inclined towards the princess. Isabel s glare is
towards the same direction Margarita is facing yet Isabel s face is not affixed to the viewer s point of
view but rather facing down. This captures her as a servant rather than a member of the royal family.
Another interesting perspective captured in the painting is facial elevation and position. The meninas
heads are at different elevations to that of Margarita. Their attention is towards Margarita yet their
perspectives are different. María s eye view is higher than Margarita s eye view yet the painter makes
it appear as if María s eyes are looking up on Margarita. Moreover, Isabel s elevation appears to pay
homage to Margarita by her angle of inclination, eye direction and facial expression. .
On the foreground, the painting captures two dwarfs. The adult dwarf is Maribárbola while the midget
is the daughter Nicolás Pertusato (Umberger 97). Nicolás has her foot on the back of the dog, which
appears unperturbed despite the presence of human foot on its back. This calmness shows a well
trained dog of the royal family whose presence is calming. The dog appears to be trained to be a child

Large Ear Lab Report
In this lab, my group concluded that there are 1,992 beans in the large jar display. The true value of the
beans in the jar was 2,051. My team s technique was that we found the tare weight of the beaker with
the beans to be 49. 912g. Next we found the overall weight to be 95.301g. Then we found the average
mass of ten beans, which was .47 g all together. After we found that we subtracted the mass of the
beaker with the beans from the tare weight to find the weight of the beans. After my team found the
weight of the beans we divided it by the average weight of the beans and got 97 beans. We repeated
these steps with the information from the large jar and got our estimate of 1,992 beans. Our estimate
was close to the actual amount of beans, we were only 59 beans away from the true amount. Our peers
in other groups did well too, there averages ranged closely from 1,900 to 2,000 beans in the jar. ...

this small percent tells us that we were very close to our targeted number. I believe the reason for error
was that we did not have a wide enough range for the weight and volume of the beans. I believe if we

then we would have had an even smaller percent error. If I could, I would go back and use more beans
as an example and discuss the different sizes. Other teams had close comparisons with ours, two
others had used the mass method and their percent errors were 2.49% and 7.36%. The other team who
used the volume method, their percent value was 5.07%. all around our percent errors were small but

motivated and helpful student who often displayed patience when working with peers. This student
was allowed to give oral responses to written responses on assessment, but then was also be
encouraged to attempt to write responses as well. The student with an IEP had a position assigned in
the lab in the corner with his left side isolated and his partner place on his better functioning right side
to take into consideration his difficulties processing language and from his left side. He was also
provided enlarged copies of lab data worksheets to assist him recording data and encouraging him to

Amount of Water Colin Lee Dr.Cooper Chemistry 12 Introduction: Alka seltzer contains three active
ingredients, aspirin, sodium hydrogen carbonate and citric acid. It is used for headaches, migraines,
and cold and flu symptoms. Alka Seltzer is usually taken when dissolved in a glass of water. When
placed in water a series of chemical reactions result into Sodium citrate and Sodium acetylsalicylate.
The sodium citrate would act as the antacid for stomach pains, and the sodium acetylsalicylate would
act as the pain reliever. Research Question: This investigation will determine the how the amount of

This produces a 106% error causing a very large range of possible values causing our results to be
very imprecise. There are several sources of error to this experiment due to random and systematic
errors. The only source of random error was the measurement that we took through the graduated
cylinder which was only accurate to the nearest 1%. We took the largest error from this one percent,
which was +/ 3. The largest relative error this yielded was only 3%, so this did not affect how precise
this experiment was too much. We can still make this more precise by making the masses of the water
larger. For example if we started the masses at 300mL and went up by 50mL, the largest error this
would yield would be 2% due to the largest error being +/ 5. This would cause smaller errors in the
amount of water. There are four major systematic errors in the laboratory, which are the fact that some
of the Alka Seltzer pills were chipped, some of the water splashed out of the beaker, we didn t know
when the reaction was actually finished, and the mass of the Alka Seltzer might have been different.
The first observation made was that some of the pills were chipped. This would cause the mass of the
pills to change which would cause unnecessary error. In having different masses this would cause the
time of the reaction to differ because of the lack of the whole pill. A chipped pill would cause the time
to decrease since there are missing

Beloved Slavery
Beloved Theme and Correlation to Slavery
In 1873 the time period Toni Morrison book Beloved was written slavery had been abolished in Ohio
where the story takes place since 1863. Though the main characters live in a free state they are still
dealing with physical mental, and emotional hardships caused by years of enslavement. This novel
expands past the idea of individuals confined by their past dehumanization and slavery. This novel
which was written about a time period in which the inhumane treatment of people which was legally

Many individuals crave and feel the need to be loved by others so they go looking for it whether it be
from spouse, relative, or friend ultimately everybody wants love. Love can be the most beautiful thing
in the world but love can also make one do crazy things. In Toni Morrison s Beloved, many different
love filled relationships are presented. There are family relationships between siblings, and
relationships between mother and children. There are relationships between adults in various sorts.
The relationships Sethe had with her children is crazy at first glance, and still then some after. Sethe
being a slave did not want to see her children who she loved go through what she herself had to do.
Sethe did not want her children to have their animal characteristics, so when the bounty hunter came
looking for Sethe and her children the love she had for them forced Sethe to do unthinkable things to
her children. Sethe attempted to murder all of her children to avoid them being placed back into
slavery. In her attempt only one actually died which was her first born Daughter Beloved. Though
Sethe tried to murder each of her children Toni shows that Sethe was very remorseful and that could
not properly function after the death of beloved. Sethe could not feed baby Denver correctly and even
got into a fight with Baby Suggs because she fed Denver with Beloved blood still on her. Sethe even
went as far as sleeping with the Headstone engraver to get a tombstone for her child. Sethe deeply felt
death was better than slavery which is why even though she loved her children she crazily attempted
to murder them. Similar to the theme of love unity is also a major theme in

France s Role in World War II
Vichy Regime France s role in World War II is one that has become the discussion of much modern
debate. France was, ostensibly, an enemy of Germany for the early part of World War II, and, as such,
stood in opposition to Germany s Nazi regime, resisted Nazi occupation, and had a very active
resistance to the Nazis. However, the view of France as an occupied country that was victimized by
the Nazis is an overly simplistic view. France was not merely a victim of the Nazi occupation, but an
active participant in the anti Semitic behavior that drove much of Nazi era German political thought.
The Vichy Regime refers to the French government during the period from July 1940 to August 1944,
after France s military defeat by Germany. It was a French government that differed significantly from
governments before it; Mashal Philippe Pétain took power as President of the Council, not President
of France. Under Pétain, France cooperated with Nazi Germany. While Pétain was the President of the
Council, Charles de Gaulle could be considered the leader of non Vichy France, and headed France
after France was liberated in World War II. However, the impact of the Vichy Regime did not end with
the Allies recognition of the Provisional Government of the French Republic (GPRF) in October 23,
1944. The destruction of the Vel d Hiv in 1959, under de Gualle s leadership, provided evidence of
France s complicity with the Nazis in World War II. France s silence about the Vel d Hiv Roundup for

Comparison Between Confucianism And Taoism
Confucianism and Taoism are often referred to as rival philosophies. Both religions emerged in
ancient China around 5th 4th century BCE. Confucianism was founded by Kong Qui, otherwise
known as Confucius(Harbsmeier, 2013). Taoism was founded by Lao Tzu. Both of these founders are
considered two of the most influential philosophers and spiritual leaders native to China. Both
emerged as a result of the fall of the Zhou Dynasty (Sellman, 2006). Both of these religions encourage
their followers to live well rounded lives. Taoism is centered in nature and how it can make one s life
better and Confucianism is based on harmony with society.
Confucianism is both a philosophy and a religion (Mei, 2017). Confucianism is focused on setting a
good example (Harbsmeier, 2013). This is done through five relationships; ruler and subject, wife and
husband, older and younger sibling, friend and friend and father and son (Mei, 2017). It is an all
encompassing way of life focused on morals, humanity and ethics, and teaches that each person
should behave virtuously in every social setting (Mei, 2017). In contrast, Taoism focuses on living
harmoniously with everyone. Taoism is also considered a philosophy and a religion which reaches into
every aspect of an adherent s life (White Paper, 2003). Taoism is based on the idea that the universe
and everything in it moves because of a mysterious force or control known as the Tao (Sellman,
2006). Tao is also used to describe human

Abstract
The comparison is based on Rosenberg s study of children s self descriptions. A comparison was made
between two participants, Annie aged 8 and Kirsty aged 16 using a semi structured interview to find
out whether there was a difference in self descriptions at different ages. The results were analysed
using qualitative analysis and it was found that younger children give more physical self descriptions
and older children give more self descriptions in terms of inner feelings. This coincides with previous
research conducted by Rosenberg. From this study and previous research it is possible to suggest that

at her secondary school. The participants were introduced to the researcher and informed the nature of
the research and were told why the research is being carried out in order to comply with ethical
guidelines. The participants were then instructed to write 10 I statements about themselves to answer
the question who am I? on the category analysis form. The participants were told that there are no
right or wrong answers and that they can write as much or as little as they would like about
themselves. (A transcript of the instructions can be found in Appendix 3). The recordings were

statements the recording equipment was turned back on and the interviewer asked the participants
questions relating to what they had written. The style in which the interviewer asked questions was

from an emotionally closed, racist, aloof character to a friendly protagonist who starts to appreciate
and care for Amari, by not doubting her, befriending her, and her self realization of her friendship and
of the delicate idea of freedom.
By the end of the novel, Polly stopped doubting Amari s skill as a person, something she did before.
On page 193, Polly says She glanced at Amari, a girl who just a few months ago had seemed so dirty
and disgusting. Now they were caught up together in a situation... (Draper, 193). Also, on page 94,
Polly says Either I m a very good teacher, or you re not as stupid as you look (Draper, 94). For the first
quote, Polly is fully aware that she thought of Amari as Dirty and Disgusting , but she is able to look
past her previous thoughts and doubts about her work together with her in the situation . The second
quote is very early into the novel, but very strongly shows her change. Polly, in a sense, admits she
doubts Amari s intelligence. But Polly very quickly takes back the doubt, not without complimenting
herself. After Polly quits

Brewery Essay
It was a busy evening at the brewery, and my double shift was coming to an end. I had arrived to open
the bar at 10 in the morning, and by now, I was more than ready to focus on what I needed to leave.
From the corner of my eye I could see a group of five enter the front door, and I hoped that someone
else would be asked to take the table. So I continued to polish the warm wine glasses fresh out of the
dishwasher. Hey Kyle, can you grab that table, the manager already cut all of the servers?
The greeting of the table wasn t my usual perky and informative self. Rushing to get their drink order

But, feeling sad is just the middle ground between two other emotions according to the textbook:
Interplay. First, you must be engaged in a deep conversation or thought, which they label as pensive.
Through the conversation in my story is when I began to feel sadness (the middle ground), when I
learned Mary s husband was in the hospital. After sadness, someone can enter a feeling of grieving,
which is the agony and distress felt from the pensive conversation and a feeling of sorrow. In my
experience with this story, I did not feel the grieving emotion. There are four components which make
up emotions: physiological changes, nonverbal reactions, cognitive interpretations, and verbal
expression. In the paragraphs that follow I will define each component as it relates to my sadness
during the story.
Firstly, physiological change is when, a person experiences strong emotions, many bodily changes
occur (Alder, 237). These bodily changes could be warmth, heartbeat, blood pressure, adrenaline, and
can even affect the digestive system. When happiness is experienced the blood pumps faster and
warms the entire body. However, sadness has almost the opposite reaction, causing the body s limbs to
cool. When Mary told me the news, I remember my mind and heart racing, this could ve been the
blood rushing to my torso and head.
Secondly, nonverbal reactions are when, feelings are apparent by observable changes to appearance,
such as a distinctive facial expression,

Final Paper #6
Discuss Steinbeck s theme of nature and man s place in it in the Red Pony. Use specific
quotes/examples from the story to indicate the points the author is making.
Nature In the Red Pony
Nature ignores human desire. The Red Pony is a short novel that consists four stories of a family
living on a western American ranch. In the book, the central theme is the cycle of life and death. All
four stories center on the phenomenon of nature. The principal issue of The Red Pony is the
exploration of man s complicated relationship with nature. It is presented through Jody s maturation.
For Steinbeck, all life, including human, is bound together. Even though people can occasionally make
decisions and change the circumstances, nature, indeed, is the leader of the whole novel and the world.
The Red Pony is filled with descriptions of natural phenomena weather, animals, and plants reflecting
events in the story. At the beginning of the Gift, Steinbeck emphasizes at daybreak Billy Buck
emerged from the bunkhouse, which shows that people wake up to work when the sun rises and goes
off to rest when the run draws. This indicates that nature controls human. As the story flows,
Steinbeck introduces the environment in the ranch as The Crow ... Show more content on

LDCT Screening
According to recent studies at Indiana Universty School of Medicine, alternative methods for
detecting non small cell lung cancer are emerging. The current methods of detecting NSCLC may be
effective, but they are also very expensive. One method called a low dose computed tomography
(LDCT) has been successful in identifying malignant tumors. However, routine LDCT screenings
would result in 1.3 to 2 billion dollars nationally in health care costs annually. Deig, Mendonca, and
Lautenschlaeger suggest that pursuing other methods of screening for NSCLC would significantly
decrease this cost. If screenings could be conducted in a cost efficient and effective manner, then the
expensive LDCT procedure would only have to be conducted for patients who ... Show more content

Biomarkers are natural indicators in the body that respond noticeably to the presence of disease. By
measuring the responses of biomarkers, oncologists detect the cancerous cells before recommending
expensive procedures, rather than immediately resorting to these procedures. One of these biomarkers
that responds to the presence of cancerous cells is microRNA. MicroRNAs are molecules that are
involved in the cell life cycle and therefore the progression of cancerous cells. A study in cancer
patients was conducted to compare the accuracy of screening with microRNAs to screening with
LDCT. Observing microRNAs did not prove to be as accurate at identifying cancer as LDCT, but
since using microRNAs is a less expensive process, it can identify patients that should undergo LCDT
testing. Screening with microRNA testing initially would decrease the number of patients paying for
LCDT testing. Another biomarker that can be observed in response to cancer is ct DNA. Ct DNA
refers to fragments of DNA from tumors found circulating in the blood stream. A recent study
indicated that observing ct DNA could have multiple useful applications for oncologists. Ct DNA
analysis during treatment could serve as an indication of how tumors react to treatment methods and
whether recurrence is likely. Detecting ct DNA in the bloodstream could even serve as an early sign of
cancer, observable before imaging tests even show tumors. However, ct DNA analysis has not yet
proved to be a replacement for LDCT

As technology of the past gives way to the technology of the future, the world is becoming a smaller

words, we as the United States, as well as other countries, rely on each other for the three factors of
production, Land, Labor and Capital. As noted in Thomas L. Freidman s book, The World is Flat,
there are several instances in which the Global Interdependence started. For example, the introduction

This is described as the Most Favored Nation rule, or MFN for short. They cannot set a certain tariff

This asks countries to give the same benefits that it would give to its domestic products, to foreign

World Trade Organization is an integral part of Globalization due to its policies of fair and balanced

Immigration Policies Of The 1920s
The 1890s to the 1920s was the first time that the federal government was taking a real stand and
control over immigration policies. It also saw the two greatest waves of immigration in the country s
history. War, poverty, political turmoil, social upheaval, food shortages, lack of available jobs and
more prompted people from foreign countries to move to the United States because it was the land of
dreams and prosperity. After the depression of the 1890s immigration jumped from 3.5 million to 9
million in a ten year period. By 1900, New York City had as many Irish residents as Dublin and more
Italians than any city outside Rome and more Poles than any city except Warsaw. It had more Jews
than any other city in the world, as well as large amount of Slavs, Lithuanians, Chinese, and
Scandinavians (Collier). The government began to limit these new immigrants. From 1882 until 1943
most Chinese immigrants were barred from entering the United States under the Chinese Exclusion
Act, the nation s first law to ban immigration by race or nationality. In 1892, Ellis Island was opened

Angel Island, a similar immigrant station opened near San Francisco. World economies slowed and
other problems occurred that caused people to become desperate for work and a fresh start.

The Darkling Thrush by Thomas Hardy Essay
The Darkling Thrush by Thomas Hardy
The poem entitled The Darkling Thrush, written by Thomas Hardy, has a very appealing connotation.
The work can be separated into two parts; the dismal part pertaining to the beginning of winter and the
second part focusing on one small aspect of good in all of the dismal surrounding it. The general idea
of the poem is that the dismal winter is approaching, but there are some incidences of goodness in this
depressing time.
The first part can be sectioned into the first and second stanzas. The poem opens with I leant upon a
coppice gate. This is the moment when the author enters the small wood and begins to narrate his
thoughts and feelings. The next ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The third stanza is where everything seems to turn around. As the narrator seems to be sitting in this
small wood, they seem to see a thrush, which is a small bird. Lines eighteen through twenty seem to
explain this very simply. They state, At once a voice arouse…in a full hearted evening song. This tells
the reader that under all of this gloom, there is one living aspect and that is this bird.
The fourth and final stanza tells the reader the narrator s new feelings on the winter months. This is
best summed up in the last two lines of the poem. They state, Some blessed Hope, whereof he knew
and I was unaware. This states that the narrator feels that winter will soon be ending and the tiny little
thrush showed the narrator this. The narrator now knows that there is a hope of the summer months
coming.
The theme of the poem is to find good meaning in everything and that good is always present in
everything. God does things for a reason and the good may not always be immediately visible, but it is
there and it is our job to search it out. In the case of the poem, the narrator now knows that the warmer
seasons will return to again bring joy and life to everyone.
The Darkling Thrush by Thomas Hardy is a poem written in December of the year 1900. This
coincides with the themes of the poem itself, being a sadness

Film Analysis Of A Classic Comedy In The Great Race
A genre of film that became relevant in the end of the 20th century and never lost popularity is the
comedy. With so many variations and versions of this movie type, such as slapstick and romance, it s
no wonder why so many people enjoy them. A classic comedy that came out in 1965, The Great Race
directed by Blake Edwards, utilizes both of these styles in a way that makes the film exciting and
extremely funny to watch. In the movie, a land race is planed from New York to Paris, with the two
main competitors being the heroic Great Leslie and the evil Professor Fate. Throughout the film,
Professor Fate s sidekick attempts to sabotage other competitors in the race while The Great Leslie
teams up with Maggie DuBois. The Great Race utilizes comedy styles perfectly, approaches the Battle
of the Sexes quite well, and also has some scenes that pushed the pushed the rules of the production
code. With so many examples of it, The Great Race is the epitome of a slapstick comedy and also has
great characteristics of a romance. The film is filled with over exaggerated facial expressions and
physical actions, as shown in the bar room brawl scene. In this scene, everyone starts to fist fight,
bodies are flying across the set, and tables and chairs are constantly being destroyed. The film also
possesses some romantic scenes, such as at the end of the race when Leslie reveals his love for
Maggie and they kiss. However, throughout the entire race there is a theme of Maggie arguing with

Most organizations, that maintain a sales force, believe in just two approaches to advancing the sales
skills of their sales team: The Minimalist Approach and the Process Approach. Few, if any, ever
consider the impact emotions have on sales success. Before we talk about he value of emotion in the
sales process, lets make sure we understand what is involved in the two, most popular, sales training
methods. A brief explanation of the Minimalist and the Process sales approach may properly set the
stage for a productive discussion about what is really needed to grow a World Class sales team.
The Minimalist Approach
This approach may best be exemplified by a story about my own entry into the sales profession, nearly

How Is Power Portrayed In The Right Of Death By Michael...
In his book, Michael Foucault discusses the history of sexuality and the way in which power and
knowledge have played a role in the repression of sexuality. Despite historical statements, Michael
disagrees with the fact that power solely serves the purpose of repression. Rather he argues how power
and knowledge are both repressive and productive. In regards to power, in Part 5 of his book, Foucault
contrasts two claims of power. They are Right of Death and Power over Life. These were privileges of
power where the one in power was able to regulate and control what was going on in their society. The
Right of Death discussed the idea that if one were to commit any criminal act against the person in

Comparing Weber s Protestant Sects And The Spirit Of...
Weber also works off of Marx s theories, far more than Durkheim appeared to. In the major instance,
he takes Marx s super sub structure notion, flips it upside down, and molds it to his own theories.
Marx hypothesized the economy to be the base of all society; Weber, on the other hand, conceived
religion as being the base to shape the rest of society and theorized as such in The Protestant Sects and
the Spirit of Capitalism, where business and religion are viewed as strongly correlated.
Businessmen would commonly be asked to what church do you belong? and what service did you
attend today? (MW, p. 303). Patients would tell their doctors the name of their churches as to signify
they could afford the fees. Those who wanted to open banks or other forms of businesses wanted to
receive the community s support beforehand; they would often get baptized in order to do so or would
build, and open, a church before their business. Church mindedness was so prominent back then that a

Socrates s Views On Philosophy And It s Influences...
Perhaps in the present moment, there would have been no such information on philosophy and it s
influences without the existence of Socrates. Socrates was an individual who was acknowledged as an
eminent philosopher. We have received his intelligence from others who have documented his
speeches, due to the fact that in the past, he had not personally recorded himself. I find it rather
intriguing that despite the fact that Socrates, alongside his pupils, have endured life many years ago, it
is still pertinent in todays society. I have appointed myself to compose about Socrates s dialogue on
The Apology . Socrates is notorious for his wisdom, in conjunction with his competence to prevail
upon you that your dictums are spurious and that his, in fact, are equitable. I have also come to the
agreement to write about The Apology by reason of that this is the closest to him that we will ever get
too. Additionally, The Apology is inherently the inauguration of Western Philosophy.
Socrates is known for his capability to arouse conversation among others. He produces this method in
which he essentially forces each person in the discussion to think twice before they supply others with
their remarks. His method is also a form dialogue, which is where you bequeath material and take
away material. In The Apology , Socrates generates a speech in the vicinity of the trial in which he is
charged with not recognizing the Gods, inventing new Gods, dishonoring the current Gods, and with

what has changed and because of their short memory they may get worried that something bad has

of people knowing my name. I was also known for being smart, but not to the point of pure genius.
Just the knowledge that people didn t know till we inter college. I played trumpet while I was in band.
I like band because it goes against what the social norm is that band people are just geeks, but I did
both. My high school experience was manly band, running, and passing my classes. ... Show more

I still want to pass all my classes and go in the direction of being a physical therapist, but in life it may
change. I wanted to become a therapist because it is close to sports in some way and helping others. I
have been wanting to become a college athlete, but I may change that dream to becoming a personal
trainer. I still run and I also added weightlifting to build more muscle to strengthen my speed. I have
decided to end my trumpet playing for now and just play occasional. It doesn t serve a purpose for
what I want to do for my life. I had to make decisions when I went to college if I wanted to keep

How Scheduled Maintenance Can Ultimately Save You Money
How Scheduled Maintenance Can Ultimately Save You Money
Keeping on top of your vehicle maintenance will cost some money. However, this investment can pay
big dividends down the road. Discover how people will know if the car has been well maintained and
the effect this will have on the value in a private sale or trade in situation at a car dealership. We ll also
outline several ways to find out what services are due on your vehicle and how to cut costs on these
important repairs.
The First Step in the Process
When you bring home that new or used vehicle the first thing you need to do is to create a dedicated
folder for it. There s a lot of paperwork associated with the purchase of an automobile and this belongs
in your folder. As time moves on you will collect receipts for motor vehicle records, warranty repairs,
completed recalls, maintenance services, parts and accessory purchases, cleaning supplies and detail
services. All of these things will go in your folder.
Very few sellers of automobiles have a rock solid organized history from the day the vehicle was
purchased, but now you will. If you sell the automobile to a private party you ll be able to instill a
level of confidence that your competition will not. Even if you decide to trade the vehicle at a
dealership they will have to consider these records into the value of the trade.
The Value of a Well maintained Automobile
There s no question that the condition of the automobile plays a large role in its value.

The Australia-Japan Partnership
The Australia Japan partnership is one of Australia s strongest and most mature international trade
relationships. The success and strength of the partnership can be attributed to the commonly held
values of both countries, including a commitment to democracy, human rights and the rule of law,
along with similar approaches to international security. Japan forms Australia s second largest export
market and third largest source of foreign investment. Australia is a critical supplier to Japan of clean
and safe food products as well as minerals and energy. Trade relations between the two nations were
recently given legal recognition and force with the ratification of the Japan Australia Economic
Partnership Agreement (Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade, 2014). 1. Population and
demographics Japan has a significantly higher population density in comparison to Australia. Japan s
population is an estimated 126.66 million people. The population is estimated to be 126.66 million
people, which decreased at about 0.89% from the last record of population (World Population
Statistics, 2013). The majority of Japan s population is comprised of the Yamoto Japanese ethnicity.
They make up approximately 98.5% of the population, followed by people of Korean ethnicity, and
with some representation from the Chinese and Japanese Indigenous peoples. Japanese is the official
spoken language of the country, with 99% of the population conversant in Japanese. Widely used

Third Person Omniscient Point Of View Analysis
Third person omniscient point of view is an old literary technique that is used to to help the readers
understand the characters. There are details that the readers might know but the characters won t know
about each other. Sandra moved from one character to another character and it made the story easy to
understand. A story with so many characters can get confusing and boring but Sandra didn t let her
readers feel that way. The story was interesting to read because of the techniques that Sandra used in
her work. Authors choose the third person omniscient point of view to present their story because this
way their audience is able to picture everything and know everything about the characters. The

The Heterogeneity Of India
All the convergent influences of the world run through this society:
Hindu,Moslem,Christian, secular;Stanlist, liberal,Maoist, democratic socialist, Gandhian. There is not a
thought that is being thought in the West or East that is not active in some Indian mind. E.P.Thompson
The singular thing about India is that you can only speak of it in the plural says Shashi Tharoor. Also,
Amartya Sen in his Magnum Opus The Argumentative Indians talks about the pluralist and tolerant
culture of India. The heterogeneity of India is ,beyond dispute, a source of immense pride for Indians.
Although is there a single definition which encapsulates what is meant by Indians; is can still, and
quite rightly, be disputed. This makes us unique among nations. India is a diverse not only in historical
sense, but also in its geographical sense and both are indissolubly linked to each other. ... Show more

Secularists like JN Nehru, Universalists like RN Tagore, Emperors like Akbar and Asoka, Philosophy
like Upnishads, Immortal leaders like Mahatma Gandhi, intellectuals like Swami Vivekananda have
been part of this rich tradition and they propounded the inclusive and tolerant idea of India. Each of
them epitomises the essence of India s belief system. We have oldest Jewish community in the world
outside of the middle east and a Christian community going back to the first decade after Christ. New
religions came in India and assimilated in its extraordinarily flexible and accommodative culture.

They are very complicated and bring a lot of argument and nobody knows what the exact answer is. They also have pros and cons. One of the most complex problems is abortion. This is due to moral and ethical values which we all have. The majority of us are Christians or are brought up in that kind of ambiance which means that as small children we were taught values that are based on the bible such as that famous phrase Thou shall not kill . The Hyde Amendment explicitly allows only two exceptions to this restriction: (1) when the life of the woman is endangered or (2) in cases of rape or incest. Since all of this was being approved we as a society thought that we could get rid of some of our social concerns. But it did the complete opposite here are some examples Illegitimate births were at a 10.7% in 1970 and in 1990 it raised to 26.2% in 1990,Children with Single Mothers in 1970 was11% in 1990 was 22%, Violent Crime Rate (per 100,000) in 1970 it was 36.4 2 and in 1990 it went up to a 73%, Teen Suicide Rate was 5.9% and in 1990 it dramatically increased to a 11.3% , and lastly Children on Welfare 8.5% and again that number managed to raise to a 11.9% according to (Catholic insight , May 2004 p28). Some of the proposed solutions for this abortion dilemma are making adoption more open to our current society. This is believed to help stop abortions incases in which the mother cannot support the unborn child or she wants to avoid raising the unborn child past its birth. This would be an option for almost anybody considering abortion. As for younger teenagers the promoting of abstinence rather than the use of contraceptives. Despite such disparities, Velázquez s masterpiece was able to project a day in the life of the royal family while at the same time achieving his artistic ideal. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This produces a 106% error causing a very large range of possible values causing our results to be very imprecise. There are several sources of error to this experiment due to random and systematic errors. The only source of random error was the measurement that we took through the graduated cylinder which was only accurate to the nearest 1%. We took the largest error from this one percent, which was +/ 3. The largest relative error this yielded was only 3%, so this did not affect how precise this experiment was too much. We can still make this more precise by making the masses of the water larger. For example if we started the masses at 300mL and went up by 50mL, the largest error this would yield would be 2% due to the largest error being +/ 5. This would cause smaller errors in the amount of water. There are four major systematic errors in the laboratory, which are the fact that some of the Alka Seltzer pills were chipped, some of the water splashed out of the beaker, we didn t know when the reaction was actually finished, and the mass of the Alka Seltzer might have been different. The first observation made was that some of the pills were chipped. This would cause the mass of the pills to change which would cause unnecessary error. In having different masses this would cause the time of the reaction to differ because of the lack of the whole pill. A chipped pill would cause the time to decrease since there are missing ... Sethe being a slave did not want to see her children who she loved go through what she herself had to do. France was, ostensibly, an enemy of Germany for the early part of World War II, and, as such, stood in opposition to Germany s Nazi regime, resisted Nazi occupation, and had a very active resistance to the Nazis. However, the view of France as an occupied country that was victimized by the Nazis is an overly simplistic view. France was not merely a victim of the Nazi occupation, but an active participant in the anti Semitic behavior that drove much of Nazi era German political thought. The Vichy Regime refers to the French government during the period from July 1940 to August 1944, after France s military defeat by Germany. It was a French government that differed significantly from governments before it; Mashal Philippe Pétain took power as President of the Council, not President of France. Under Pétain, France cooperated with Nazi Germany. While Pétain was the President of the Council, Charles de Gaulle could be considered the leader of non Vichy France, and headed France after France was liberated in World War II. However, the impact of the Vichy Regime did not end with the Allies recognition of the Provisional Government of the French Republic (GPRF) in October 23, 1944. Confucianism was founded by Kong Qui, otherwise known as Confucius(Harbsmeier, 2013). Taoism was founded by Lao Tzu. Both of these founders are considered two of the most influential philosophers and spiritual leaders native to China. Both emerged as a result of the fall of the Zhou Dynasty (Sellman, 2006). Both of these religions encourage their followers to live well rounded lives. Taoism is centered in nature and how it can make one s life better and Confucianism is based on harmony with society. Confucianism is both a philosophy and a religion (Mei, 2017). Confucianism is focused on setting a good example (Harbsmeier, 2013). This is done through five relationships; ruler and subject, wife and husband, older and younger sibling, friend and friend and father and son (Mei, 2017). It is an all encompassing way of life focused on morals, humanity and ethics, and teaches that each person should behave virtuously in every social setting (Mei, 2017). In contrast, Taoism focuses on living harmoniously with everyone. Taoism is also considered a philosophy and a religion which reaches into every aspect of an adherent s life (White Paper, 2003). • 21. Brewery Essay It was a busy evening at the brewery, and my double shift was coming to an end. I had arrived to open the bar at 10 in the morning, and by now, I was more than ready to focus on what I needed to leave. From the corner of my eye I could see a group of five enter the front door, and I hoped that someone else would be asked to take the table. So I continued to polish the warm wine glasses fresh out of the dishwasher. Hey Kyle, can you grab that table, the manager already cut all of the servers? Through the conversation in my story is when I began to feel sadness (the middle ground), when I learned Mary s husband was in the hospital. After sadness, someone can enter a feeling of grieving, which is the agony and distress felt from the pensive conversation and a feeling of sorrow. In my experience with this story, I did not feel the grieving emotion. There are four components which make up emotions: physiological changes, nonverbal reactions, cognitive interpretations, and verbal expression. In the paragraphs that follow I will define each component as it relates to my sadness during the story. Firstly, physiological change is when, a person experiences strong emotions, many bodily changes occur (Alder, 237). These bodily changes could be warmth, heartbeat, blood pressure, adrenaline, and can even affect the digestive system. When happiness is experienced the blood pumps faster and warms the entire body. However, sadness has almost the opposite reaction, causing the body s limbs to cool. Use specific quotes/examples from the story to indicate the points the author is making. Nature In the Red Pony Nature ignores human desire. The Red Pony is a short novel that consists four stories of a family living on a western American ranch. In the book, the central theme is the cycle of life and death. All four stories center on the phenomenon of nature. The principal issue of The Red Pony is the exploration of man s complicated relationship with nature. It is presented through Jody s maturation. For Steinbeck, all life, including human, is bound together. Even though people can occasionally make decisions and change the circumstances, nature, indeed, is the leader of the whole novel and the world. The Red Pony is filled with descriptions of natural phenomena weather, animals, and plants reflecting events in the story. At the beginning of the Gift, Steinbeck emphasizes at daybreak Billy Buck emerged from the bunkhouse, which shows that people wake up to work when the sun rises and goes off to rest when the run draws. The current methods of detecting NSCLC may be effective, but they are also very expensive. One method called a low dose computed tomography (LDCT) has been successful in identifying malignant tumors. However, routine LDCT screenings would result in 1.3 to 2 billion dollars nationally in health care costs annually. Deig, Mendonca, and Lautenschlaeger suggest that pursuing other methods of screening for NSCLC would significantly decrease this cost. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Biomarkers are natural indicators in the body that respond noticeably to the presence of disease. By measuring the responses of biomarkers, oncologists detect the cancerous cells before recommending expensive procedures, rather than immediately resorting to these procedures. One of these biomarkers that responds to the presence of cancerous cells is microRNA. MicroRNAs are molecules that are involved in the cell life cycle and therefore the progression of cancerous cells. A study in cancer patients was conducted to compare the accuracy of screening with microRNAs to screening with LDCT. Observing microRNAs did not prove to be as accurate at identifying cancer as LDCT, but since using microRNAs is a less expensive process, it can identify patients that should undergo LCDT testing. Screening with microRNA testing initially would decrease the number of patients paying for LCDT testing. Another biomarker that can be observed in response to cancer is ct DNA. Ct DNA refers to fragments of DNA from tumors found circulating in the blood stream. A recent study indicated that observing ct DNA could have multiple useful applications for oncologists. Ct DNA analysis during treatment could serve as an indication of how tumors react to treatment methods and whether recurrence is likely. Detecting ct DNA in the bloodstream could even serve as an early sign of cancer, observable before imaging tests even show tumors. The work can be separated into two parts; the dismal part pertaining to the beginning of winter and the second part focusing on one small aspect of good in all of the dismal surrounding it. The general idea of the poem is that the dismal winter is approaching, but there are some incidences of goodness in this depressing time. This tells the reader that under all of this gloom, there is one living aspect and that is this bird. The fourth and final stanza tells the reader the narrator s new feelings on the winter months. This is best summed up in the last two lines of the poem. They state, Some blessed Hope, whereof he knew and I was unaware. This states that the narrator feels that winter will soon be ending and the tiny little thrush showed the narrator this. The narrator now knows that there is a hope of the summer months coming. The theme of the poem is to find good meaning in everything and that good is always present in everything. God does things for a reason and the good may not always be immediately visible, but it is there and it is our job to search it out. In the case of the poem, the narrator now knows that the warmer seasons will return to again bring joy and life to everyone.
