Human Freedom, Consciousness, And Reality
Human Freedom, Consciousness, and Reality There are a number of situations in which
reasonable minds can disagree. Businesses normally face such situations. For example, a
company situated in country A may be selling clothes from country C. It happens that the media
has been criticizing the company for selling products, which are believed to be produced by
children. Suppose the company conducts research and find out that the clothes it is selling are
made by children. The investigations also shows that it is not the girls fault nor is the company s
fault to have the girls who are still young employed in such a company. It also shows that the
society does not educate girls beyond the sixth grade. To worsen the situation,, the researcher
found that the society is poor and cannot provide the basic needs to the young girls. The
respondent reveals if you shut this plant down, you will literally take food off the table for these
families and that there are no other opportunities in the town. This means that preventing the
employment of young girls would cause more problems than improve their situation. On the other
hand, laws from country A may prohibit the child labor. Some thinkers may believe that the young
children should be allowed to go to school. This is because it is their legal rights. However, if
legal measures are taken and that the girls are prevented from working in the factory, it will not
assist them but instead cause more problems. For example, forcing them to

The Isolation Policy And Its Effect On Japanese Society
The Isolation Policy or Sakoku was a policy adopted in 1641, during the time in which the
Tokugawa shogunate was in power, the Edo period (1603 1868). It was enacted by shogun
Tokugawa Iemitsu. The policy, as the name suggests, meant that Japan was isolated from the most
of the world. The bakufu (military government), accomplished this state of isolation by closing the
borders, though contact with China and the Netherlands was still maintained through a single port
in Nagasaki. The policy also meant that Japanese citizens could not leave the country. This isolation
was to last until 1854, during which time the shoguns (military leaders) managed to keep Japan
relatively peaceful.
The growing western influence in both culture and military technology in Japan was the main
reason for the introduction of the Isolation policy. The shoguns feared that this outside influence
would destabilise the country. This policy had a substantial impact on Japanese society.
This research essay will examine how the Isolation policy, introduced by the Tokugawa shogunate,
was a turning point in Japanese history. The first section of the essay will discuss the rationale for
the policy s introduction. This will be followed by an analysis of the short and long term effects
this policy had on Japanese Society.
The introduction of the Isolation policy was influenced by a number of factors. One of these
factors was the growing power of the daimyo, due to access to new military technology. This was

Evidence Asimov Analysis
Robots coexisting in the human world can be beneficial to many people s lives by allowing
tasks to be performed at a much faster rate. By Google definition robots are machines capable of
carrying out a complex series of actions automatically, especially one programmable by a
computer; (especially in Science Fiction) a machine resembling a human being and able to
replicate certain human movements and functions automatically. Many people think of robots as
metal machines that come in various shapes and sizes; not machines that look and act in such
ways like a human. Robots and other alike machines are widely used across the globe. In factories,
schools, homes, hospitals... Whilst technology grows, the need for these complex machines
becomes much greater. These machines are able to perform tasks at a much greater speed,
accuracy, and complexity compared to manual labor. In Asimov s short story Evidence, a man by
the name of Stephen Byerley was in a horrific accident that should have resulted in his death. When
Stephen runs for mayor, Frances Quinn, his runner up, claims that the real Stephen Byerley, rather
than having recovered, was permanently disfigured and crippled by the accident, and the Byerley
who appears in the public is a humanoid robot, created by Stephen Byerley. Asimov mentions the

I do not believe that the short story, Evidence, is accurate in its depiction of society s treatment
of robots. In the research we have seen thus far, the acceptance of robots in today s society is
almost unknown due to the fact that many people do not realize they amount of robotics that
they already use in their daily lives. Robots are a very beneficial thing, and I do not believe that we
need a set of laws like Asimov s to govern the behavior of robots as they become more advanced...

Tom Clancy s Childhood
As a kid, Tom Clancy grew up loving ships, tanks, planes, and other military machines. Clancy
was born on April 12, 1947 in Baltimore, Maryland. Although he hated reading and writing as a
kid, he began to develop a love for them and chose his career as an author. Tom loved to read
about the military in his free time. Furthermore, he based his novels off of the military experiences
he read about. His stories were so real, the military had to confront him about where he got this
information.
After Tom started to love writing, he went to school to learn more. Tom was an excellent student in
school. His favorite subject was English, which he excelled in.
After graduating from Loyola College, he went on to join the U.S Army Reserve Training

Favorite Characters In The Hiding Place By Corrie Ten Boom
While reading The Hiding Place, I was frequently inspired by the power and insight behind
Corrie ten Boom s words. However, two of her statements particularly stood out to me. The first
was when she had said Some knowledge is too heavy... you cannot bear it...your father will carry
it until you are able. (ten Boom 175) This phrase is so meaningful because it was a lesson she
had learned from her own father when she was young, but now she uses it in her own teaching
and relates it to her heavenly father as well. The second quote that stood out to me was when she
had said His will is our hiding place. Lord Jesus, keep me in Your will. (ten Boom 234) This
statement refers to Corrie s realization of how everything had happened for a reason. This was
her protection or hiding place through the horrors of the concentration camp and her personal
losses. I found these two quotes to be the most perceptive phrases of Corrie s that spoke to me the
most. My favorite character in The Hiding Place would undeniably be Corrie s older sister, Betsie
ten Boom. Betsie ten Boom was portrayed with an incredible sense of optimism and faith that
could shine a light at the darkest of times. Another quality I admired was her merciful heart that
managed to feel sorrow for enemies and be quick to forgive. Betsie s positivity, forgiveness and
faithfulness all contributed to create a remarkable personality and character in this particular novel.

How Do I Relate My Faith In Good God With All The...
Sometimes I wonder why tragic things happen and if it s a part of God s plan. My faith teaches
me that God wants us to be in good health, even as our soul prospers in 3 John 2, (KJV, 1994).
When I see events like 911, Hurricane Katrina, the Tsunami and the Haiti Earthquake I sometimes
wonder why these things have to happen. I know that I can not blame Godbecause some things are
man made. Everyone suffers at some point in our lives, whether it s a divorce, cancer, an
accident, a disability or a homicide we all have pain. The bible tells us God causes all things to
work together for good for those that love Him and are called according to His purpose in Romans
8:28 (KJV, 1994). That suggests that some of the tragic events must... Show more content on

My grandmother was the rock of our family and she kept everyone together with our folklore and
old remedies. She taught me how to pray and communicate with God and after she died I
thought that I had lost my connection with God. The thing that got me going was remembering
her voice saying Nete you have to develop your own personal relationship with God. So I began
my personal and intimate relationship with him and over the years things began to get a little
easier, even though I still miss her and wish she was here (Elnita Thacker, 2011). During the
ugliest times in this country s history slaves had to cling to their religion and prayer to make it
through. Africans had a great faith in God and believed that he would see them through all the
rapes, beatings, drowning, hangings, murders and any other inhumane acts of cruelty. Fredrick
Douglas spoke about how slaves were to depend on God who sent a Redeemer to set the captive
free as it says in Luke 4:18, The Spirit of the Lord is on me, because he has anointed me to
preach good news to the poor. He has sent me to proclaim freedom for the prisoners and recovery
of sight for the blind, to release the oppressed . The slaves believed that they had to suffer
oppression to abide by the worlds of the bible. They thought that they had gone against their master
s will as it says in Luke 12:47, He that knoweth his master s will and doeth it not, shall be beaten

Compare And Contrast Dube And Strangeworth
Strange Old Ladies In the novel To Kill a Mockingbird, by Harper Lee, old lady Mrs. Henry
Lafayette Dubose is quite a weird character, in the manner that she acts to her quirky or rude little
comments on virtually anything, but nevertheless, Miss Adela Strangeworth in The Possibility of
Evil , by Shirley Jackson is debatably an even more strange character, with her rude, degrading
mailing system, her need to feel justified in deconstructing everyone and her amusing facade on
the outside, shielding the monster that she is one the inside. This being said, are Mrs. Dubose and
Miss Strangeworth really alike? Or are they complete opposites? They are very similar, and this
will be talked about with our three proofs. The fact that they both threaten... Show more content on

In To Kill a Mockingbird, old lady Mrs. Henry Lafayette Dubose butts in on any conversation she
hears, even if it doesn t include or have anything to do with her. Mrs. Dubose tried to dictate how
Scout Finch should live her life by telling her what are you doing in those overalls? You should
be in a dress and camisole, young lady! You ll grow up waiting on tables if somebody doesn t
change your ways a Finch waiting on tables at the O.K. CafГ© hah! (Lee 135). This directly
shows that Mrs. Dubose intentionally includes herself in anyone s private lives, and goes as far
as to try and tell them everything that they need to do. In The Possibility of Evil , Miss Adela
Strangeworth needs to know about everything that is happening in her town, and often interferes
with incriminating information and writes letters about the information, which can cause many
infractions to people s lives directly. In another one of her letters, this time directed to Mrs.
Helen Crane, the lady who had a 6 month old daughter, she wrote Didn t you ever see an idiot
child before? Some people just shouldn t have children, should they? (Jackson 252). This clearly
shows that Miss Adela Strangeworth does not care for other people s well being, and that

she overhears, causing many problems between conflicting parties. This proves that both of the old

Compare the ways in which the authors of two texts explore how society treats people who are
different.
The texts Edward Scissorhands directed by Tim Burton and To Kill a Mockingbird a controversial
novel written by Harper Lee both explore the ways in which society treats people who are not like
them whether it is because they look or act different. Both texts demonstrate how a misunderstood
character can be quickly judged through his actions and appearance. Whilst the two texts focus
mainly on appearance as an explanation for the way the characters are treated, they also illustrate
the death of innocence through critical eyes. Harper Lee and ... Show more content on

Using Edward as the mockingbird, all his intentions are is to satisfy his loved ones, preferably
Kim but when he is arrested due to a failed robbery attempt which was set up by Kim s boyfriend,
Edward is almost entirely loathed by everyone except for the Boggs family. This incident clearly
illustrates how society welcomes only those they can take advantage of, and once proven un useful,
they are condemned for life.
In Edward Scissorhands, each of the characters have their own persona, just as the characters in To
Kill a Mockingbird do. Peg and Atticus both have similar personalities concerning the main
characters of the stories. When Peg firsts sees Edward, although at first, she is scared by looking
at Edward s scissor hands, she does not at all think he is weird just because he is different. When
Atticus is assigned to defend Tom Robinson, he does not complain, instead he supports Tom to
the best of his ability. If there are two people who judge Tom and Edward the most, it would be
Bob Ewell and Jim respectively. After the trial of Tom Robinson, despite the fact that he was
found guilty then shot and killed, Bob Ewell menaces Tom s widow, tries to break into the judge s
house and spits on Atticus. Jim continuously makes the effort to threaten Edward with violence,
even after he is sent back up to his house by the township. Mayella Ewell and

The Great Gatsby Idealised Love
A significantly powerful emotion, love, possessing the ability to transform a live to the greatest
but also destroy. The concepts of idealised love have been expressed in texts throughout history,
and each is relevant to their specific periods and specific value systems. This can be seen in both,
Elizabeth Barrett Browning s (EBB) poetry Sonnets from the Portuguese, 1845 and F. Scott
Fitzgeralds novel The Great Gatsby , 1925 which explore in depth the similar perspectives of ideal
love, although the context that surrounds each text reshapes the composer s viewpoint. Barrett
Browning explores a romantic vision of love and enhances our perception of this interpersonal

In the roaring 20 s, America was referred to as the Jazz Age , a positive and optimistic time
where possibilities seemed endless. The concept in EBB s sonnet of ideal love transforming
individuals is similarly interpreted through the characterisation of Gatz into Gatsby. The
obsessive love to own Daisy highlights the idea that this power of love can only exist in the Jazz
Age. Gatsby s idealised love is derived from the traps of wealth and money which is clearly
evident in the dialogue her voice is full of money . Gatsby s is willing to reinvent himself for
Daisy and he consumes everything he does in life to make himself worthy of Daisy so they can
marry as if it were five years ago. Nick the novel s narrator, tells Gatsby that you can t repeat the
past to which Gatsby replies why of course you can! I m going to fix everything just the way it
was before . This evidently shows that the power of ideal love which is genuine and
unconditional is very strong on individual s and transforms them into a whole new world with
new values. Gatsby s determination to make everything right evidently depicts how the concept
of ideal love had transformed him to attain his ideal love, Daisy. Hence, Fitzgerald conveys his
perspective of ideal love during the Jazz Age, and similar to EBB, ideal love is seen to transform
individual s and demanding for love to

growth is expected due to increased consumer adoption of Microsoft s Vista operating system.
Currently, VAIO laptops represent 5% of the market. Semiconductors Sony s semiconductor
business represents a small component of total revenue. Sony produces several products such as

within this segment is the CELL processor, a joint development by Sony, Toshiba, and IBM. The
multi core architecture of the CELL processor allows for more efficient performance in
multimedia and vector calculation applications. It is designed to bridge the gap between
conventional CPUs, which are made by Intel and AMD and specialized processors such as the
GPUs found in graphics cards, which are made by nVidia and AMD subsidiary ATI. Components
Sony makes a variety of components for third party customers. A large component of this revenue

Invention Of The Light Bulb
In our career and even life itself, we find that we take certain habits and processes that once we
did not have. Some of these are products of the influences other people have over us while
others are discoveries from our own personal experiences and stabs in the dark. These are littered
with successes but are primarily made up of failures. When something goes wrong for us or
another and it could have been prevented by taking another course of action, we learn what not
to do and what to do. Take Thomas Edison for example, the acclaimed inventor of the light bulb.
Inventing a light bulb was not an easy task and, as can be expected, there were many failures.
Nonetheless he believed that I have not failed, I ve just found 10,000 ways that won t work.
Firstly, I will talk about the methods I have adopted in the industry in technical, managerial and
creative fields explaining also where these came from in relation to theory, experience and other
influences and any biases I may have, good or bad, due to these influences. Secondly, I will talk
about the approaches I take to achieve the methods I have previously mentioned. These will
include philosophies and theories based off who I am as a person as well as my beliefs. I will
then reflect on the roots that these approaches came from and any biases they may have caused in
my works. Finally, I will talk about any art forms, philosophies and other influences that have
recently made an impact in the way that I work in the industry. I

Components Of A Risk Management Program
Every healthcare organization, no matter how small or specialized, should be aware of its risk
situation and take appropriate measures to protect itself against clinical, financial and operational
exposures. Risk management is the process of minimizing risk to an organization by developing
systems to identify and analyze potential hazards to prevent accidents, injuries, and other adverse
occurrences, and by attempting to handle events and incidents which do occur in such a manner
that their effect and cost are minimized. Effective risk managementhas its greatest benefits in
application to insurance in order to avert or minimize financial liability (Duckers, Faber, Cruijsberg,

Betty Friedan s The Feminine Mystique
In The Feminine Mystique, Betty Friedan presents several arguments that dealt with the issues of
personal engagement and equality that women of the time faced, calling it, the problem that has no
name. Friedan describes an ideal that middle class women of the 1960s were held to. She highlights
that women were chained to kitchens and their spouses and children, while their dreams of careers
and college degrees were suppressed. These women had goals and dreams, and they wanted more,
but as Friedan describes, it was nearly impossible to break through the feminine mystique. Friedan
argues that the stereotypes, occupations, and marriages that the women held caused the feminine

out that after World War II, jobs were actually available to anyone who wanted one, women
included. The labor force was no longer restricted to just men. If a woman wanted a job, she was
capable of getting one. At the time The Feminine Mystique was published, two thirds of the
women in America were actually already part of the working class. What it really came down to
was how badly these middle to upper class women wanted to work outside of their homes. By

United States v. Gordon E. Thomas III: Understanding the Effects
Criminal profiling refers to the inference of offender characteristics. Historically, the use of
criminal profiling can be traced back to 38 C.E. when Jews were wrongfully accused of blood
libel, also known as the kidnapping and murdering the children of Christians for religious rituals
during Jewish holidays (Turvey, 2012). As time progressed, criminal profiling has evolved into the
study of crime and criminal behaviors, including mental health and physical evidence surrounding a
crime that has been committed in an attempt to identify a likely suspect. However, the validity of
scientific evidence as a whole was challenged in the 1993 Daubert v. Merrell Dow Pharmaceuticals,
509 U.S. 592. In this case, the U.S. Supreme Court ruled that the trial judge was the gatekeeper to
prevent junk science from entering the courtroom and outlined standards, also known as Daubert

In this writing Jefferson, cuts out the miracles, appearances of angels, and anything that would
seem unnatural. In chapter one, Jefferson takes parts from Luke s infancy narrative, but cuts out a
lot. These things include the birth of John the Baptist, the announcement of Jesus birth, the
shepherds and the angles, and a few more elements to make his own none miracle and unnatural
story. The second chapter though, is different from the previous chapter. Chapter two is the
Sermon on the Mount from Matthew, but instead of taking anything out Jefferson leaves it totally
intact. The fifteenth chapter was similar to the Christian version of the last supper, which
included parts from all the gospels, but Mark. Jefferson s version, however was missing the
breaking of the bread and the wine turning into Jesus blood. In the seventeenth chapter, it is similar
to the death of Jesus. Though, Jefferson again cuts something from this section and it is the
resurrection. Jefferson, essentially took a razor to his bible and took out the parts that he wanted
to fit the vision in his head. This took away the divinity of Jesus making him equal to us meaning
that he was not special. By taking out the supernatural elements of Jefferson s version of the bible
showed that none of this could happen and it was most likely made up.

route to trade with India. The British acted quickly, and started to take control of the cape of South
Africa. In 1833, they emancipated the Afrikaners slaves, created more taxes, and auctioned off
previously communal land. This caused great rage within the Boercommunity. The Boers were
Dutch and Huguenot people that migrated to South Africain the late 17th century (Great Trek).

The Importance Of Nursing Leadership
Nursing guidance is a complex but essential part of the nursing workforce. Guidance can come in
the form of management and in the form of leadership. The two terms are often used
interchangeably, but do not always mean the same thing. The nurse manager is often someone who
has authority from the facility to be in management. The nursing leader may not have authority over
other nurses, but may be a strong guide in the workplace for other nurses and nursing staff. Nursing
as a profession is ever changing and increasingly challenging. Nurse managers are tasked with an
enormous variety of functions in their respective workplaces, budgeting, scheduling, hiring,
disciplinary actions, implementing facility policies and procedures, and the... Show more content on

While patient care is at the center of what nurse leaders do as well, the help and support they
give their fellow nurses is very important. Nurse leaders are the background to the nursing care.
Effective nurse leaders can promote a positive workforce and a healthy work place for other
nurses. Workplace dynamics is an essential part of how each nurse functions. Nurses, being
mentally and physically stressed, need to have support and guidance from a nurse leader to feel
confident about performance. The impact of nursing leaders can be a positive and guiding
force for the younger or more inexperienced nurse. Having strong relationships with solid leaders
can instill values in the beginning stages of a newer nurses career. Gaining insight and core
concepts from a more experienced leader can make a world of difference in the way a new nurse
performs, provides patient care, and sets future goals for themselves. A newer nurse with a
positive role model and nurse leader can model themselves to become a leader for future nurses.
Future nurses and the future of the nursing practice can positively benefit from having a revolving
new nurse nurse leader cycle. With a profession as dynamic as nursing, the involvement of positive
leaders and role models is essential for the practice to grow and inspire a nursing force that not only
adapts and changes with the profession, but leads and strives for promoting the improvement

George Eliot’S The Mill On The Floss, We Follow The...
George Eliot s The Mill on the Floss, we follow the protagonist, Maggie Tulliver who has been
mistreated by her family and even her older brother Tom whom she puts on a pedestal. It is clear
from the beginning of the book that the relationship between these two is, to some degree, abusive.
In it, Maggie relies heavily on Tom for approval and lovewhereas Tom is strict and demeaning
towards his younger sister. Tom and their family s actions towards Maggie heavily shaped her
character. The unhealthy relationship she and her brother share creates a barrier between her and
everyone else to where she cannot get close enough to anyone like she is with Tom. A character

Moveable Feast Hemingway
Ernest Hemingway is one of the greatest American 20th century novelists. Born in a Chicago
suburb, he emerged as a writer quite early, starting his career immediately after high school. He
served in World War I as an ambulance driver. After the war, wounded, Hemingway returned to
the U.S. for a short time before settling in Paris with his first wife, Hadley Richardson. In his
memoir A Moveable Feast, he describes his years in Paris as a young writer, his relationship with
his wife and their infant son, as well as his circle of friends and acquaintances. However, it all
seems but a background setting for his work. Throughout A Moveable Feast, Ernest Hemingway
proves to be a dedicated writer.

Everything else he did was but means so he could be more productive. His wife, his friends and
acquaintances, his hobbies were just a distraction, something he had to do. In the chapter Une
GГ©nГ©ration Perdue , Hemingway emphasizes that his particular writing process required times
of rest, lest his well of... writing dries up. The only time that he was not working was when he
could not work, for he had to stop when there was still something there in the deep part of the well.
Eating, drinking, reading, and even having sex with his wife were only something necessary to him
after he had written (12).
For any talented writer, writing opens up a new world, a new reality to live in. Hemingway was
not an exception: For him, writing was indeed an escape from objective reality. The way he
describes his writing process in the chapter A Good CafГ© on the Place St. Michel suggests
how deep he would wander far into the story and get lost in it. When he was writing, the whole
world around him would fade from existence; he did not look up nor know anything about the

Sand Mining Pollution
Frac Sand Mining: Killing Natural Habitats and Polluting the Environment
I remember walking on the rocky shore of an endless, blue lake and feeling the fresh breeze
shield me from the brutal, summer heat. My Uncle and I used to take out a Piragus canoe and
paddle across the lake s vastness as I peered down into the glassy water and clearly saw the castle
rock formations. The fish quickly swam in and out of their hiding places like swarms of people
making their way to work on a busy New York morning. The lake breathed with life and
movement. Rolling green bluffs encircled the lake, creating a storybook like haven. So many
beautiful woodlands and waterways like this continue to disappear due to the frac sand mining
industry. Towering machinery replaces billowing trees with piles of red, earthy mounds, and the
heavy clanking of metal on metal echoes across the land. Frac mining and fracking scars the land
around it indefinitely. I am not an expert on environmental habitats or the mining industry, but my
love for the outdoors and fishing drives me to investigate the harmful effects of frac sand mining.
The frac sand mining industry exploits the remaining wilderness of Minnesota, Wisconsin, Illinois,
and surrounding states by selfishly polluting the environment; taking millions of gallons of water
from freshwater resources, and disturbing essential minerals from the ground, thus prohibiting
future habitat growth and creating significant health issues due to a surplus of dust.

Reducing Vigilance Decrement During Vigilance Tasks
To effectively reduce vigilance decrement during vigilance tasks, a thorough understanding of it is
needed. This study explores whether vigilance decrement can be explained by the resource theory
or the mindlessness theory. The performance of 464 participants during a laboratory conducted dot
location vigilance tasklasting for twelve minutes. Six break activities were also conducted to reduce
vigilance decrement. Out of the six, the Rest group had the greatest effect on vigilance decrement
(no vigilance decrement) followed by the verbal memorygroup and the spatial memory group. With
no breaks, the continuous group had the greatest decrement in performance, acting as a control. The
results supported the use of the resource theory that a break of a different cognitive type improves
performance but the demands of the task influence must also be considered (more demanding tasks
drains resources at a faster rate).
Introduction
During the Second World War, Norman Mackworth observed that radar operators experienced a
performance decline with time while they remained on watch by missing submarines and even
mistaking friendly vessels for Nazi vessels. This was described as the vigilance decrement. When
carrying out a vigilance task, where long and sustained periods of attention and concentration are
crucial, a decline in performance in terms of accuracy and speed occurs as time goes on. In the
case of the radar operators, signs of enemy submarines escaped operators

Mccarthy’s Novel the Road Is About Man’s
Inherent...
McCarthy s novel The Road is about man s inherent altruism in a world of selfishness. To what
extent is this true in the case of the man ?
The man in The Road is portrayed as a very religious individual, this is indisputable. One could
deduce from this that therefore he is selfless in protecting his son and carrying on in the times in
which he finds himself. This viewpoint contrasts with the one that the man is selfish with his
actions, doing everything to survive and not helping anyone he meets on his journey. All the
decisions the man makes throughout the novel can be used as examples to argue each point of
view, and it may be that it is a mixture of both. Maybe the man acts in a selfless way due to selfish
beliefs.
The whole ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
He acts immorally on several occasions, not offering assistance to the man who had been struck
by lightning and locking the people in the basement again when he had discovered them instead of
helping. It could be argued that everything an individual does is aimed at personal gain,
selfishness, either physical or psychological. The man is certainly benefiting psychologically from
keeping his son alive as he believes he is doing the right thing and fulfilling his purpose. Also his
religious morality can be questioned, as he considers suicide even though this is not allowed
according to the bible. The fact that he does not become a cannibal may be used to identify him as
still retaining some kind of moral code, however, he does anything to keep him and the boy alive
and it is not improbable that in a situation of severe starvation he would have turned to cannibalism
had it been an option.
From all of his actions in the novel, the reader can justifiably come to the conclusion that the man
is just as selfish as the other people trying to survive in the post apocalyptic world. The man can
certainly be described as selfless as well as selfish, he aims towards a noble goal but does not let
anything stop him, and he identifies other s lives as less important than the

The Road to Bankruptcy of Detroit City Essays
The inevitable is no less a shock because it is inevitable ~ Jamaica Kincaid
Founded in 1701 by nearly 100 French settlers, Pontchartrain du Detroit was not doomed to
bankruptcy. Located near epicenters of trade including the Canadian Border and the Detroit River
and rich in resources Detroit, from a geographic sense, was a city established on lands destined to
prosper. Turning into an industrial powerhouse in the 20th century, the city saw an enormous boom
in both population and industrial prosperity with the growth of the iron stove, railroad car, and ship
building industries. It wasn t until auto manufacturing renaissance initiated with the founding of
Henry Ford Co. in 1910 that Detroit began it s nearly 100 year long descent ... Show more content

The first factor in Detroit s collapse was the undeniable success of the auto industry. The expansion
of the big three auto producers, Chrysler, Ford, and General Motors led the charge. In addition to
dominating the auto industry, the big three were largely responsible for the success of local
business throughout Detroit. Direct suppliers towards the auto companies themselves, and the
subsequent services provided to the auto workers and their families composed the majority of
Detroit business. The rapid expansion of the auto industry resulted in the industry s decentralization
with the city limits of Detroit and caused the expansion of the outlying areas surround Detroit. The
decentralization of industry had profound effects on the geography and on the population of the
city. The movement of jobs out of the city accelerated the process of suburbanization, as
autoworkers who could move followed their jobs. This trend is demonstrated by Census data,
showing that following the creating of new auto plants outside the city of Detroit resulted in the
total population dropping by nearly 300,0000 citizens by 1960. Following this decentralization,
the auto industry suffering from international competition and rising oil prices, was unable to
sustain the levels of economic output seen in years prior; and as a result, became a less desirable
place to live for both workers looking to relocate and current residents.

The Brazilians living in the favelas who are revolting are not bad people, they just aren t being
treated the way people are supposed to be treated. With no other way to express their anger
towards their government, they lash out. This is not right, but is it wrong to express yourself?
These riots are due to the overall mistreatment of the people in the favelas of Rio de Janeiro. Brazil
was not ready to say the least. I am not saying Rio is not a great place to visit, they just were not
ready. They were unprepared for both the Olympics and World Cup. They had to build stadiums
fastly and they had to deal with the outbreak of their own people. Brazil ran into these problems
just like any other country does that holds a worldwide major sporting event. The best two
examples to compare to Brazil are Sochi in 2014 and Beijing in 2008. Sochi 2014 was not as
bad as Brazil, but the preparations were morally questionable when it came to some strategies.
The Russian Government, however, was preparing for seven years for the olympics in sochi,
Brazil has been for only four years. Brazil is not ready to say the least, but even with so much
time some things happened that still were not so humane. Overall, Sochi was much more of a
success when it came to preparing for the olympics. In Sochi, there were wild dogs everywhere in

The Key Concepts Of Social Work In The Child Welfare System
The Child Welfare System The child welfare system is a complex system that requires a special
skill set for social workers. Among this set of skills includes sensitivity, compassion, mature
judgment, and an advanced knowledge of social work (Farley, Smith, Boyle, 2011). Since the child
welfare system is so diverse, social workers must work with four important elements, which are the
family, the extended family, the community, and a specialized team of family preservation
specialists (Farley et al., 2011). When working in the child welfare system, social workers must
keep permanency and stability as the primary objectives, no matter which division of social work
he is working in (Farley et al., 2011). In home care, foster care, adoption, and child protective
services are the main divisions of the child welfare system, and the social worker plays a critical
role in each of these divisions, since each division is related to the others in some capacity.
In Home Care In home care is one of the main divisions of social work, and it primarily entails
looking at the relationship between the child and his environment. Social workers involved in this
field often must interact with the parents, helping to teach them parenting and listening skills
(Farley et al., 2011). Often times, the social worker borrows principles from the cognitive
behavioral therapy and adopts a problem solving strategy when working with the family (Farley et
al., 2011). If these programs are performed effectively and efficiently, they help keep children with
their biological families, so they do not have to enter foster care, and programs that include IFPS
are the most effective in preventing out of home placements (Farley et al., 2011).
Foster Care Perhaps one of the most well known divisions of the child welfare system is foster
care, which is a type arrangement for children to live outside of their homes. Foster care typically
is short term, and it may result in the child returning to his parents to receive in home care, or the
child may be adopted (Farley et al., 2011). Unfortunately, many children in foster care have
experienced some type of trauma in addition to being removed from their home and their family

Walt Whitman Contributions
It is known without a doubt, that Walt Whitman is a key contributor to the evolution of American
literature. Whitman was born in 1819 to a classic working family and is also considered to be a
part of the first generation of children since the United States was formed. It is only fitting that
amount of pride felt across the nation filled Whitman since he was just a small child. It was
because of his pride as an American, that Whitman set out to change American literature and move
away from the British styles of writing. Despite writing during the Romantic era, Whitman s works
are often considered to be futuristic of his own time. Whitman accomplished his goal to impact
American literature through his innovative writing style, addressing political issues, and using
themes about sexuality and religion that broke social barriers.
Whitman started his writing career as a journalist for a few small newspapers even though he
formal education ended when he was just eleven years old. Despite lacking the formal education,
Whitman went on to be a school teacher, a journalist, and eventually started his own newspaper.
Whitman s first poems are considered to be in line with the Romantic era. Containing themes about
love, normal rhyme schemes, and conventionally made Whitman s poems just average and rather
boring. Ralph Waldo Emerson, often considered the father of American literature, plead for
American poets to step forward and create a new, innovative American style. Whitman heard

of horses and burros that can thrive in balance with other public land resources and uses. If left
uncontrolled, Mother Nature would regulate the population by disease, dehydration, and starvation.
The population of the horses would increase causing food to become scarce and the horses to
starve. Not controlling the population would be inhumane. The horses would suffer from
starvation, causing a slow death. Private ranchers obtain permits for their cattle to graze on BLM
land which further affects the problem of scarcity of food and water for all animals. The wild horse
and burro population should be controlled using humane methods

Hawaii Doesn t Dance Just Hula Essay
Hawaii Doesn t Dance Just Hula Hip Hop dancing is a revolutionary style that has spread
throughout America for over decades now. Going coast to coast and even over many oceans,
especially the Pacific Ocean in the state of Hawaii. The stereotype that all people in Hawaii are
Hawaiians or that the population lives in grass huts and doesn t know what a mall is, plagues the
minds of mainlanders. So it would be a big surprise knowing that these Hawaiians can be Hip Hop
dancers too. The message was shouted out to the whole nation when Hawaii s first Hip Hop dance
crew Hype 5 0 competed on America s Best Dance Crew season five showcasing their dance
abilities against other dance crews from around the country. Once this message was relayed,
Hawaii was put on the Hip Hop map and even more Hip Hop influence poured into the state with
dance competitions being held, Hip Hop artists increasingly having concerts, and having dancers
from Hawaii travel out to the mainland expressing their talents and not forgetting where they are
from. The origins of Hip Hop dancing occurred in the early 1960 s and comes from various cities
within New York. Creating and incorporating different styles within New York, they were able to
construct a diverse culture of dancing that would soon spread throughout the whole country. With
dance styles such as uprock, breaking, locking, roboting, boogaloo, and popping. Hip Hop dancing
over the years improved with these base dance styles to grow from. According

Disadvantages Of Membrane Distillation
As time goes by, the fresh water supplement for living on the earth planet will become a serious
problem [1 3]. In addition, the Middle East is mentioned as one of the poorest regions in all over
the world in terms of water resources with less than 1% of the total available global freshwater per
capita [4, 5]. Therefore, one of the strategic options to satisfy the current and future request for fresh
water in countries established around Gulf is to build up desalination units. So, immediate need has
arisen to construct economic units for water desalination. Nowadays, it has been proved that
membrane separation processeshave several advantages for desalination and water reuse of
contaminated resources in comparison to the conventional separation methods [1, 6 8].... Show

MD is a thermally driven separation process that utilizes a hydrophobic, membrane as a contactor
media between two fluids kept at different temperatures where the separation is obtained by the
mass transfer of the vapor phase. The driving force of the process is given by a partial vapor
pressure difference that caused from the temperature difference [13 17]. Two advantages of MD
are, the process performance is not highly affected by high feed salinity as see water, and has the
theoretical ability to reach 100% salt rejection [13, 18, 19]. There are commonly four types of
membranes arrangements for MD process: Direct Contact Membrane Distillation (DCMD), Vacuum
Membrane Distillation (VMD), Air Gap Membrane Distillation (AGMD), and the Sweeping Gas
Membrane Distillation (SGMD) [18, 20 22]. AGMD configuration is appropriated for water
desalination [23, 24], on the other hand water gap showed higher thermal efficiency and less
internal heat loss in comparison to AGMD [18, 25]. Therefore, these two arrangements are
commonly used for the see water

Persuasive Speech For Your Address In Our School
Superintendent Crouse, Loveland Administration, and Loveland School Board Members, just
last year you vied for us to obtain our own tennis courts, which I use every week. As a result of
this, I hold very high regards and respect for you, and the fact that you care for all your students,
and want to do all you can to improve our school lives. For this, I know you are welcome to new
ideas, and I hope to be able to share mine without giving you the wrong impression, as I have no
intent to offend you in any way. My focus as of this moment is to change the course scheduling for
classes, so that we could have different weeks for different subjects, but still maintain a four block
day. The ideacame to me from my French class, on account of the fact that the French actually do
this at their schools.
In further details, it would mean that for two weeks we, the student population, would have half of
our classes, as long as there are no complications which I will explain later. The next two weeks,
however, we will have the other half of our classes, excluding special cases, again. As I know,
there are some flaws, as there are in every good idea. One such problem we could, no would run
into, would have to be if a student were to take 2 classes that have to be taken in a consecutive
order. To solve this problem, all that would have to be done is a bit of extra tampering with their
scheduling, which would happen regardless of the new changes for some. Said student would just
have to revert back to block scheduling, and switch classes half way through the year as we do
now. In result, the student would get the classes they want, and the new schedule for their
remaining classes. Another problem that some may argue could arise is the fact of tests, quizzes,
homework, or finals, because we can t all have time turners. Taking two weeks off could
potentially affect some grades, but if you think about it, units really only take about two weeks to
explain and finish their complementary tests, and homework wouldn t overlap unless it were some
long term project. The reason these flaws would be worth the extra time and effort to get through
would be the extra focus students would gain. I find that I do better at the beginning of the

Online Privacy Protection Act
As we ve moved further into the twenty first century, our world and society has been immersed into
the digital world. With this digitization of our culture we have created a new resource, data. Data
has become king in the Age of Intelligence, it fuels most of what technology companies use to make
money. Companies like Google, Facebook, Amazon, ect. have leveraged their vast amounts of data
generated by the millions of internet users to better advertise and attract more users. Surprisingly
most of this data collection is created and aggregated unbeknownst to the users. This is where the
problems start to show themselves. When users are generating 2.5 quintillion bytes of data each
day, as estimated by IBM,(https://www 01.ibm.com/software/data/bigdata/what is big data.html),...

There are some laws that address pieces of data protection such as the Children s Online Privacy
Protection Act (COPPA) which imposes certain restrictions to websites targeted at children limiting
what they can and can t keep. Or the Federal Information Security Management Act (FISMA)
which tries to maintain data security standards throughout the government in the most efficient
way possible. However, most of the regulatory power for data protection comes from consumer
protection laws that have been stretched to apply to the internet. There is no strong federal laws
that define our data privacy rights. The one place where we have seen the clearest instructions
for data protection is in the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) which
laid out specific standard to maintain the privacy of medical records. Currently there have been
several bills floating through congress to address some of these issues, but alas none of them
have been put into law. Currently most of the work on data protection has happened at the state
level. California has lead the way with its data protection laws. The California Online Privacy
Protection Act ensured Californians were able to easily find and see the data policies of
companies. California also notably passed one of the first security breach notification laws which
required by law for companies to report to their users if their information was accessed
improperly. Laws like these are a right step in the right direction to protect and inform citizen on
what happens with their data but are more or less bandages for the problem. Without strong federal
regulations it is hard to enforce and standardize these protections across the

Essay on Working Conditions of Children in Textile Mills
Working Conditions of Children in Textile Mills
After thorough investigation into 5 sources referring to the working conditions for children in
factories during the late eighteenth and early nineteenth centuries, we now have the opportunity to
bind all the facts together and create a detailed account. However, there are still questions over
the reliability of some of the sources, so further research and comparisons with other mills need to
be made. Making comparisons will also indicate the typicality of Styal. Hopefully, by the end of
this essay I will be able to prioritise the best way of finding out about the treatment of children in
textile mills.

This makes us think that the workers are in fear of being sacked, which they couldn t afford to
do with the lack of jobs in the area, so therefore say what Greg wants them too. We also get the
impression that Samuel Greg is always present, as if to make sure the employees do as they are
asked. We are also told that, ...everyone well paid, comfortable... , ...fine machinery... and
...excellent lunch... which makes us wonder whether Samuel Greg is only showing the good
points. Frederick Engles thinks that it was in fact a staged visit and that all the bad conditions
were kept hidden. He suggests that Greg s factory was a mockery . Engle s uses a sarcastic tone
for this source, which backfired as there are some positive comments. Finally, the source is very
generalised, which suggests it may have been a hypothetical visit, meaning Engles could be saying
what could happen?
The second source referred to child labour at Quarry Bank Mill in 1833. My source is an extract
from an interview between the superintendents who looked after Greg s apprentices at Quarry
Bank Mill (George and Elizabeth Shawcross) and a government official checking on how
apprentice children were treated. The fact that this is just an extract from the interview makes us
wonder what was said in the rest of it. If this extract was taken

Key Ideas Of The Enlightenment
The Enlightenment was a extended intellectual, philosophical, cultural, and social movement that
spread throughout England, France, Germany, and other parts of Europe during the 17th century.
The Enlightenment supported the idea that science and logic could make society better. Participants
in the movement were mostly educated intellectuals and philosophers. Before the Enlightenment,
Europe was in a time period called the Scientific Revolution. The Scientific Revolution was a time
when people like Nicolaus Copernicus began to question the church doctrine. When man developed
the Questioning Spirit , Europe began to discuss the key ideas of the Enlightenment: the social,
political, and economical aspects of life. This was the beginning of the Enlightenment.
First and foremost, the age of Enlightenment brought upon a great social impact. The
Enlightenment impacted society by introducing the idea that mankind could use reason to discover
the laws of the world and the rights of mankind. These ideas affected all groups of society, from
politics to religion. It also introduced to the world the concept of permissive economics and the
benefits of limited government intervention in the economy. Scholars argued that people become
wealthy by making use of available resources and letting the laws of supply and ... Show more

One political effect of the Enlightenment was that some monarchs embraced new ideas from the
movement, since Enlightenment principles held that the people should be in control of their own
government. The Enlightenment thinkers argued against previous traditions ones that argued that
kings were selected by God and was God s spokesperson on Earth. , and called for individual
freedoms, governments of the people, and religious freedom. They were enlightened because they
believed that humans could answer questions for themselves, and sought ways to put this

  • 3. Human Freedom, Consciousness, And Reality Human Freedom, Consciousness, and Reality There are a number of situations in which reasonable minds can disagree. Businesses normally face such situations. For example, a company situated in country A may be selling clothes from country C. It happens that the media has been criticizing the company for selling products, which are believed to be produced by children. Suppose the company conducts research and find out that the clothes it is selling are made by children. The investigations also shows that it is not the girls fault nor is the company s fault to have the girls who are still young employed in such a company. It also shows that the society does not educate girls beyond the sixth grade. To worsen the situation,, the researcher found that the society is poor and cannot provide the basic needs to the young girls. The respondent reveals if you shut this plant down, you will literally take food off the table for these families and that there are no other opportunities in the town. This means that preventing the employment of young girls would cause more problems than improve their situation. On the other hand, laws from country A may prohibit the child labor. Some thinkers may believe that the young children should be allowed to go to school. This is because it is their legal rights. However, if legal measures are taken and that the girls are prevented from working in the factory, it will not assist them but instead cause more problems. For example, forcing them to ... • 4. The Isolation Policy And Its Effect On Japanese Society The Isolation Policy or Sakoku was a policy adopted in 1641, during the time in which the Tokugawa shogunate was in power, the Edo period (1603 1868). It was enacted by shogun Tokugawa Iemitsu. The policy, as the name suggests, meant that Japan was isolated from the most of the world. The bakufu (military government), accomplished this state of isolation by closing the borders, though contact with China and the Netherlands was still maintained through a single port in Nagasaki. The policy also meant that Japanese citizens could not leave the country. This isolation was to last until 1854, during which time the shoguns (military leaders) managed to keep Japan relatively peaceful. The growing western influence in both culture and military technology in Japan was the main reason for the introduction of the Isolation policy. The shoguns feared that this outside influence would destabilise the country. This policy had a substantial impact on Japanese society. This research essay will examine how the Isolation policy, introduced by the Tokugawa shogunate, was a turning point in Japanese history. The first section of the essay will discuss the rationale for the policy s introduction. This will be followed by an analysis of the short and long term effects this policy had on Japanese Society. The introduction of the Isolation policy was influenced by a number of factors. One of these factors was the growing power of the daimyo, due to access to new military technology. This was ... By Google definition robots are machines capable of carrying out a complex series of actions automatically, especially one programmable by a computer; (especially in Science Fiction) a machine resembling a human being and able to replicate certain human movements and functions automatically. Many people think of robots as metal machines that come in various shapes and sizes; not machines that look and act in such ways like a human. Robots and other alike machines are widely used across the globe. In factories, schools, homes, hospitals... Whilst technology grows, the need for these complex machines becomes much greater. These machines are able to perform tasks at a much greater speed, accuracy, and complexity compared to manual labor. In Asimov s short story Evidence, a man by the name of Stephen Byerley was in a horrific accident that should have resulted in his death. When Stephen runs for mayor, Frances Quinn, his runner up, claims that the real Stephen Byerley, rather than having recovered, was permanently disfigured and crippled by the accident, and the Byerley who appears in the public is a humanoid robot, created by Stephen Byerley. (ten Boom 175) This phrase is so meaningful because it was a lesson she had learned from her own father when she was young, but now she uses it in her own teaching and relates it to her heavenly father as well. The second quote that stood out to me was when she had said His will is our hiding place. Lord Jesus, keep me in Your will. (ten Boom 234) This statement refers to Corrie s realization of how everything had happened for a reason. This was her protection or hiding place through the horrors of the concentration camp and her personal losses. I found these two quotes to be the most perceptive phrases of Corrie s that spoke to me the most. My favorite character in The Hiding Place would undeniably be Corrie s older sister, Betsie ten Boom. Betsie ten Boom was portrayed with an incredible sense of optimism and faith that could shine a light at the darkest of times. Another quality I admired was her merciful heart that managed to feel sorrow for enemies and be quick to forgive. Betsie s positivity, forgiveness and faithfulness all contributed to create a remarkable personality and character in this particular novel. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

My faith teaches me that God wants us to be in good health, even as our soul prospers in 3 John 2, (KJV, 1994). Gatsby s idealised love is derived from the traps of wealth and money which is clearly evident in the dialogue her voice is full of money . One could deduce from this that therefore he is selfless in protecting his son and carrying on in the times in which he finds himself. This viewpoint contrasts with the one that the man is selfish with his actions, doing everything to survive and not helping anyone he meets on his journey. All the decisions the man makes throughout the novel can be used as examples to argue each point of view, and it may be that it is a mixture of both. Maybe the man acts in a selfless way due to selfish beliefs. The whole ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... He acts immorally on several occasions, not offering assistance to the man who had been struck by lightning and locking the people in the basement again when he had discovered them instead of helping. It could be argued that everything an individual does is aimed at personal gain, selfishness, either physical or psychological. The man is certainly benefiting psychologically from keeping his son alive as he believes he is doing the right thing and fulfilling his purpose. Also his religious morality can be questioned, as he considers suicide even though this is not allowed according to the bible. The fact that he does not become a cannibal may be used to identify him as still retaining some kind of moral code, however, he does anything to keep him and the boy alive and it is not improbable that in a situation of severe starvation he would have turned to cannibalism had it been an option. From all of his actions in the novel, the reader can justifiably come to the conclusion that the man is just as selfish as the other people trying to survive in the post apocalyptic world. The man can certainly be described as selfless as well as selfish, he aims towards a noble goal but does not let anything stop him, and he identifies other s lives as less important than the ... The Road to Bankruptcy of Detroit City Essays The inevitable is no less a shock because it is inevitable ~ Jamaica Kincaid Founded in 1701 by nearly 100 French settlers, Pontchartrain du Detroit was not doomed to bankruptcy. Located near epicenters of trade including the Canadian Border and the Detroit River and rich in resources Detroit, from a geographic sense, was a city established on lands destined to prosper. Turning into an industrial powerhouse in the 20th century, the city saw an enormous boom in both population and industrial prosperity with the growth of the iron stove, railroad car, and ship building industries. The first factor in Detroit s collapse was the undeniable success of the auto industry. The expansion of the big three auto producers, Chrysler, Ford, and General Motors led the charge. In addition to dominating the auto industry, the big three were largely responsible for the success of local business throughout Detroit. Direct suppliers towards the auto companies themselves, and the subsequent services provided to the auto workers and their families composed the majority of Detroit business. The rapid expansion of the auto industry resulted in the industry s decentralization with the city limits of Detroit and caused the expansion of the outlying areas surround Detroit. The decentralization of industry had profound effects on the geography and on the population of the city. The movement of jobs out of the city accelerated the process of suburbanization, as autoworkers who could move followed their jobs. This trend is demonstrated by Census data, showing that following the creating of new auto plants outside the city of Detroit resulted in the total population dropping by nearly 300,0000 citizens by 1960. Following this decentralization, the auto industry suffering from international competition and rising oil prices, was unable to sustain the levels of economic output seen in years prior; and as a result, became a less desirable place to live for both workers looking to relocate and current residents. With no other way to express their anger towards their government, they lash out. This is not right, but is it wrong to express yourself? These riots are due to the overall mistreatment of the people in the favelas of Rio de Janeiro. Brazil was not ready to say the least. I am not saying Rio is not a great place to visit, they just were not ready. They were unprepared for both the Olympics and World Cup. They had to build stadiums fastly and they had to deal with the outbreak of their own people. Brazil ran into these problems just like any other country does that holds a worldwide major sporting event. The best two examples to compare to Brazil are Sochi in 2014 and Beijing in 2008. Sochi 2014 was not as bad as Brazil, but the preparations were morally questionable when it came to some strategies. The Russian Government, however, was preparing for seven years for the olympics in sochi, Brazil has been for only four years. Brazil is not ready to say the least, but even with so much time some things happened that still were not so humane. • 29. The Key Concepts Of Social Work In The Child Welfare System The Child Welfare System The child welfare system is a complex system that requires a special skill set for social workers. Among this set of skills includes sensitivity, compassion, mature judgment, and an advanced knowledge of social work (Farley, Smith, Boyle, 2011). Since the child welfare system is so diverse, social workers must work with four important elements, which are the family, the extended family, the community, and a specialized team of family preservation specialists (Farley et al., 2011). When working in the child welfare system, social workers must keep permanency and stability as the primary objectives, no matter which division of social work he is working in (Farley et al., 2011). In home care, foster care, adoption, and child protective services are the main divisions of the child welfare system, and the social worker plays a critical role in each of these divisions, since each division is related to the others in some capacity. In Home Care In home care is one of the main divisions of social work, and it primarily entails looking at the relationship between the child and his environment. Social workers involved in this field often must interact with the parents, helping to teach them parenting and listening skills (Farley et al., 2011). Often times, the social worker borrows principles from the cognitive behavioral therapy and adopts a problem solving strategy when working with the family (Farley et al., 2011). If these programs are performed effectively and efficiently, they help keep children with their biological families, so they do not have to enter foster care, and programs that include IFPS are the most effective in preventing out of home placements (Farley et al., 2011). Foster Care Perhaps one of the most well known divisions of the child welfare system is foster care, which is a type arrangement for children to live outside of their homes. Foster care typically is short term, and it may result in the child returning to his parents to receive in home care, or the child may be adopted (Farley et al., 2011). Unfortunately, many children in foster care have experienced some type of trauma in addition to being removed from their home and their family (Kramer, Sigel, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Whitman was born in 1819 to a classic working family and is also considered to be a part of the first generation of children since the United States was formed. It is only fitting that amount of pride felt across the nation filled Whitman since he was just a small child. It was because of his pride as an American, that Whitman set out to change American literature and move away from the British styles of writing. Despite writing during the Romantic era, Whitman s works are often considered to be futuristic of his own time. Whitman accomplished his goal to impact American literature through his innovative writing style, addressing political issues, and using themes about sexuality and religion that broke social barriers. Whitman started his writing career as a journalist for a few small newspapers even though he formal education ended when he was just eleven years old. Despite lacking the formal education, Whitman went on to be a school teacher, a journalist, and eventually started his own newspaper. Whitman s first poems are considered to be in line with the Romantic era. Containing themes about love, normal rhyme schemes, and conventionally made Whitman s poems just average and rather boring. In further details, it would mean that for two weeks we, the student population, would have half of our classes, as long as there are no complications which I will explain later. The next two weeks, however, we will have the other half of our classes, excluding special cases, again. As I know, there are some flaws, as there are in every good idea. One such problem we could, no would run into, would have to be if a student were to take 2 classes that have to be taken in a consecutive order. To solve this problem, all that would have to be done is a bit of extra tampering with their scheduling, which would happen regardless of the new changes for some. Said student would just have to revert back to block scheduling, and switch classes half way through the year as we do now. In result, the student would get the classes they want, and the new schedule for their remaining classes. Another problem that some may argue could arise is the fact of tests, quizzes, homework, or finals, because we can t all have time turners. Taking two weeks off could potentially affect some grades, but if you think about it, units really only take about two weeks to explain and finish their complementary tests, and homework wouldn t overlap unless it were some long term project. The reason these flaws would be worth the extra time and effort to get through would be the extra focus students would gain. I find that I do better at the beginning of the ... Before the Enlightenment, Europe was in a time period called the Scientific Revolution. The Scientific Revolution was a time when people like Nicolaus Copernicus began to question the church doctrine. When man developed the Questioning Spirit , Europe began to discuss the key ideas of the Enlightenment: the social, political, and economical aspects of life.
