Searle Vs Sartre
With philosophy, nothing is black and white. Deciphering philosophical views is unlike anything else
because there is more depth and analysis that has to be put into play. It is about understanding what
the philosopher is trying to get across while making inferences about what they truly mean or could
mean. The thing about it is that at some times it tends to be a contradiction within itself: while certain
things can be true under certain circumstances, the opposite could be true under different
circumstances. Many ideas are hard to grasp and can be interpreted in various ways depending on how
people want to take it. One can say that John Searle and Jean Paul Sartre have a plethora of beliefs in
common yet really none at all. If they were assessing each other s views, they would agree and
disagree on their stances on different topics. While Searle may believe one thing some ... Show more

Man is born, and then he defines himself. I believe that Searle would disagree with this. He would say
that our brain and its predetermined functions play a large role in everyday decisions and life choices.
Searle almost likes to believe that human are machines in referring to their syntactical processes. It
seems to me that he thinks our brains are wired a certain way, and I do not thing Sartre could agree. In
one conclusion he drew, Searle wrote, What we mean by that is that mental processes that we consider
to constitute a mind are caused, entirely caused, by processes going on inside the brain. . . . Brains
cause minds (Searle 39). By this, I believe he means that brains and minds are part of a human s
essence, therefore, he would probably believe that essence precedes existence. When breaking it down
and looking at their perspectives this way, Sartre and Searle differ greatly. Searle most likely would
not agree with that main theme in Sartre s

The Future For Trade Unions
1. The future for trade unions Trade unions have played a crucial role in developing a democratic
society in terms of monitoring and enforcement in the areas of wages and employment conditions.
(Landau et al 2014, ????) It has been argued that the Industrial Commission gave Australia both
political and competitive advantage and provided both members and non members, significant
workplace gains throughout most of the 20th century. (Ref) Whilst not formally united with the
Australian Labour Party (ALP), the Australian Council of Trade Unions (ACTU) has sustained close
association with it. The ACTU has played a critical role in Australian politics. Bob Hawke was
president of the ACTU from 1970 to 1980, and went on to become labour prime minister from 1983 to
1991. The establishment of Australia s Industrial Relations Reform Act in 1993, which was intended
to streamline the collective bargaining process, largely resulted in a decline in ACTU membership.
(Ref) In 2006, the Howard governments WorkChoices laws came in to effect. Employees saw this as
opportunity to remove unfair dismissal protection, while reducing employee entitlement, removing the
independent industrial arbitrator and ultimately weakening trade union muscle. (Wilson Spies Butcher
2011) In 2006 07, a critical movement came with the ACTU s Your rights at work campaign. The
campaigns objective was to build enough opposition to WorkChoices in order to defeat the
government during the 2007 election. It

Mary Rowlandson And Benjamin Franklin
Every colonist that came to America had their own perceptions of its inhabitants. The majority of
these people believed the Native Americans were savages because their culture differed from the
colonists. To the colonists, everything needed to be proper. The way they dressed, whether or not they
went to church, or how they raised their children needed to be up to code. If not, their fellow colonists
looked differently at them. The natives were entirely different. Their goal was simply to survive, and
they were conducting survival the best way they knew how to. The differences between the two
cultures led to many severe problems. Mary Rowlandson and Benjamin Franklin had two entirely
different views of the Native Americans, based upon their encounters with them.
Mary Rowlandson believed the Native Americans were savage, blood thirsty creatures that were either
going to kill or be killed. In her story, she supports her claim by using vivid imagery of a major event
that took place during her lifetime. A very interesting quote from Rowlandson s literature is It is a
solemn sight to see so many Christians lying in their blood, some here, and some there, like a
company of sheep torn by wolves, all of them stripped naked by a company of hell hounds, roaring,
singing, ranting, and insulting, as if they would have torn our very hearts out (Rowlandson). This
quote uses an incredible amount of imagery and allows the reader to see just how Rowlandson feels
about the natives.

Lee de Forest
Lee De Forest
Lee De Forest was born Aug. 26, 1873, Council Bluffs, Iowa. De Forest was the son of a
Congregational minister. His father moved the family to Alabama and there assumed the presidency of
the nearly bankrupt Talladega College for Negroes. Excluded by citizens of the white community who
resented his father s efforts to educate blacks, Lee and his brother and sister made friends from among
the black children of the town and spent a happy although sternly disciplined childhood in this rural
community. (Kraeuter, 74). As a child he was fascinated with machinery and was often excited when
hearing of the many technological advances during the late 19th century. He began tinkering and
inventing things even in high school, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The audion helped AT amp;T set up coast to coast phone service, and it was also used in everything
from radios to televisions to the first computers. (A Science Odyssey: People and Discoveries, 1999).
By the time he died he had over 300 patents, but few of them ever had much success. In fact, De
Forest seemed to have a long streak of failures. He was regularly involved in patent lawsuits (indeed,
he spent his fortune on legal bills). He went through four marriages, had a number of failed
companies, was defrauded by his business partners, and was even once indicted (but later acquitted)
for mail fraud. (Kraeuter, 79).
With the audion, however, De Forest had a solid success. De Forest has been labeled one of the fathers
of the electronic age, since the audion helped start the explosion of electronics earlier this century.
American inventor of the Audion vacuum tube, which made live radio broadcasting possible and
became the key component of all radio, telephone radar, television, and computer systems before the
invention of the transistor in 1947. (Kraeuter, 79). Forest passed away on June 30, 1961 in Hollywood,
CA. De Forest wrote an autobiography entitled Father of Radio, but did not get that recognition from
the rest of the world. He is remembered as one contributor to an industry that was, truth, the work of
many people. (Kraeuter, 79).

Advantages And Disadvantages Of Simulation
Simulation is a software package for modeling, simulating, and analyzing dynamical systems. It
supports linear and non linear systems, modeled in continuous time, sampled time, or a hybrid of the
two. Systems can also be multi rate, i.e., have different parts that are sampled or updated at different
rates. For modeling, Simulink provides a graphical user interface (GUI) for building models as block
diagrams, using click and drag mouse operations. With this interface, you can draw the models just as
you would with pencil and paper (or as most textbooks depict them). This is a far cry from previous
simulation packages that require you to formulate differential equations in a language or program.
Simulink includes a comprehensive block library of a sinks, sources, linear and non linear
components, and connectors. You can customize and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Significant Event Research Paper
What is a significant event , truly I mean? A baby s first step, high school graduation, or even the pay
raise that benefits you with a very very generous paycheck. A significant event to me is to have a
realization or occurrence that changes your perspective. In my case, i have had so many negative
events occur, it should be illegal. In this case it was an incident in which caused a major realization, an
AHA!! moment, an epiphany. I went to a chinese restaurant and ate some shrimp fried rice and
eggrolls, but after dinner was over of course the waiter brought the bill and a few fortune cookies. We
all finished eating and opened the cookies. I usually don t take the fortunes seriously but this one
actually made me think. Not just think, but truly question and reconsider everything i could possibly
byass on a day to day basis. I take in the words, Broke is temporary, poor is a state of mind (Little
dragons fortune cookie). Of course being me, I overanalyzed and overthought but it took a certain
memory for me to actually understand and recognize the true significance of this quote.

that day of course i would sometimes get down about the things i didn t have, but whenever it truly got

The And Treatment Of The Poor Vs. The United States
An analysis of the documents pertaining to colonial Wethersfield, Connecticut (1750s 1780s) revealed
that Document N accurately characterizes the time period. The three main ideas found in Document N
are ascribed to the treatment of the poor vs. the treatment of the rich, the amount of power both
political and religious held by Congressionalists, and the presence of religion in the law. In order to
further understand the document and fully grasp these ideas, aspects of the time period had to be
examined. Two very important aspects of this period were religion and politics. Like the other
colonies, colonial Wethersfield held religion in high esteem. In examining the documents, it was easy
to see how heavily religion influenced the law. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Documents B and C represent the distribution of taxable property (Document B) as well as the
distribution of land holdings (Document C) that took place in 1756 and 1773. In a letter written by
Silas Deane, a Wethersfield merchant and Connecticut delegate to the First Continental Congress, to
Patrick Henry, a Virginia delegate to the First Continental Congress, on January 2, 1775, Silas wrote:
[The Connecticut man s] first principle is to possess a disencumbered freehold, be it ever so small, in
preference to the largest under quit rents and landlords...for a Connecticut farmer with two hundred
and fifty or three hundred acres of good land, is a rich man, that is, as rich as he wishes to be
(Document F). In that letter, Silas Deane asked Patrick Henry to grant permission to a group of
Connecticut settlers and allow them to travel to an Ohio settlement in hopes of procuring the land. By
interpreting the above quote, it s easy to visualize the colonial belief that to own a piece of land, even
a small one, provides a greater sense of accomplishment than living on a larger property owned by
someone else. Document N originates from the General History of Connecticut, a book published by
Reverend Samuel Peters in 1781. It was notorious for the uncomplimentary ways in which the
colonists were depicted, as well as the distortion of the Connecticut Blue Laws, a term used to
describe the laws regulating

The Value Of Dress Code
Several times I have been dress coded for things that skinnier girls or what I would consider non curvy
girls wear everyday. For instance, I was dress coded every single time when I would wear a v neck,
because it would show too much cleavage. It wasn t like I was trying to show that much skin, just with
my body type things like that just happen. I can t control how big my breast are! Yet somehow I was
stuck having to cover up with some baggy old sweatshirt and left wondering why my bestfriend could
wear the same v neck, but yet for me it was considered inappropriate or too distracting . Around the
nation women alike are facing the same problems with dress code. Being called out and put down,

Backhoe Skidsteer: Backhoe and skidsteer machines are often used on larger job sites where there are
many stumps to be removed. This method is also ideal for large, deep rooted stumps. Chemical
Removal: Chemical removal is another option for getting rid of annoying tree stumps, and involves
drilling a series of holes into the stump to pour the chemicals into. This method is often used on
already rotting stumps, and while it does speed up the decomposition process, it s not one of the
quickest methods used for stump removal. Fire: In some instances, people will use fire to remove
stumps by piling pieces of scrap wood atop the stump and lighting it on fire. If you choose this
method, never leave the fire unattended and always check with your local city and county to ensure it

Thesis statement: Media violence has a serious negative impact on youths and to curtail this influence,
we have to understand how and why aggressive behavior is encouraged through media viewing,

Disinhibition hypothesis also suggest that aggression in viewers might be stimulated by on screen
violence. When people witness a violent media event, it activates thoughts or ideas about violence
which stays with them for a period of time. According to Strasburger and Wilson, (2009) this is a
process known as cognitive priming , whereby violent stimuli can elicit aggressive motor tendencies
in a viewer. Futher supported by Bandura (1963), exposure to media violence weakens a child s
normal inhibitions or restraints against behaving aggressively, resulting in that are similar to the

Consumerism And The Conformity Of Consumer Culture
The dominance of capitalist countries has facilitated the conformity of global civilization and cultural
environments resulting in an increase of consumer cultures (Sarmela, 1977; Chaney, 2004). As
capitalism experiences a natural and unavoidable expansion, consumers engage with consumer culture
creating invisible products such as social status, identity, cultures, and ethical relationships (Sternberg,
2017). There are two sides to consumer culture that are the values held by society; those who conform
and those who rebel (Turow McAllister, 2014). All participants of society align with either submission
or resistance to dominant ideas, values, and social structures. However, as a result of continued
progressive diversity and fragmentation, the distinction between submissive and resistance are blurred.
Nevertheless, those who resist and rebel are still participants of consumer culture. Instead they instead
form sub cultures in society with alternative beliefs, values and ideas that challenge the mainstream
(Chaney, 2004). In order to better understand the relationship between consumption practice and the
resistance of consumer culture, theories of reflexive project of self, prosumers, lifestyle
commodification, and incorporation will be analyzed in relation to the vegan movement.
Prominent media scholar, John Fiske (1989), theorized numerous ways in which the consumption of
media and prevalent culture, even shopping itself, could be conceptualized as acts of resistance.
Resistance can be defined as the ways in which a subcultural style and activity works to challenge the
dominant social order (Southerton, 2011). Veganism is becoming an increasingly popular lifestyle
choice for health and environmental conscious individuals and is viewed as a form of resistance to
mainstream consumption practices. The consumer develops their identity as someone who does not
use animal derived food or products of any kind such as; dairy, eggs, fur, leather, feathers, or any
goods involving animal testing (Lawrence, 1993). Veganism is an extended form of vegetarianism,
and though the term was defined in 1944, the concept of a plant based diet can be traced back to
ancient Indian and Eastern Mediterranean societies (Suddath,

The Fall of Russia Essay
After the collapse of the Soviet Union there were many different problems facing the new Russian
government. Through the use of reforms many of these issues were cured but not overnight. Boris
Yeltsin and his Prime Minister Yegor Gaidar implemented several policies while the economy was not
moving well. Then Vladimir Putin would carry on reforms while making new ones or changing
existing policies. How would these amendments affect the economy after the collapse of the
Communist regime?
In 1992, Yeltsin launched an economic reform program developed by Acting Prime Minister Yegor
Gaidar. The program also known as shock therapy brought fundamental changes in the economy.
There was little doubt that it was causing economic misery, and ... Show more content on

The temporary truce broke, however, broke down and Yeltsin declared emergency presidential rule;
more than half but less than two thirds the majority needed in the Supreme Soviet voted to impeach
Yeltsin. Yeltsin called together a constitutional convention to write a new constitution. He banned
eight political parties, fired several high ranking government officials who had failed to support him,
and suspended Russia s regional and town councils, many of which had sided with his opponents
(Kort 421). Therefore the Supreme Soviet had refused to support the new constitution, Yeltsin then
issued a decree dissolving both the Supreme Soviet and the Congress of People s Deputies.
Furthermore, neither system wanted to view or listen to Yeltsin and his new constitution. They
gathered in the parliamentary building, voted to dispose of Yeltsin. Then Yeltsin a few weeks later had
the Russian white house blasted with artillery.

owned most of these enterprises, many of which have not still been restructured to compete in market
conditions. Under the program, every citizen of Russia would be issued

Rhetorical Analysis Of Richard Nixon s Resignation
Richard Nixon s Resignation Address In 1974 after the Watergate scandal, Richard Nixon became the
first and only president to resign the office. His speech to the American public was meant to inform
everyone about his resignation and to clear his name, but ultimately his speech was ineffective
because of the lack of ethos, a remorseful tone, and an apology. Richard Nixon opens the speech by
stating he always tried to do what was best for the nation throughout his presidency. This seems like
an attempt to build his ethos, but fails because instead of apologizing and moving on he defends his
actions. Nixon continues to play the victim and blames congress for his lack of support. The tone in
the beginning of the speech sounds somewhat guilty, but by not taking responsibility for his part in the
Watergate scandal Nixon loses whatever ethos he still had. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

The Mythology Of The Greek Mythology
Nowadays people remember Ancient Greece somewhat, pieces here and there, taught briefly in your
common high school global history class. What most people often forget is that the Ancient Greeks
were and still are such a great influence towards our Western culture. Of course, they are not the only
ones who have contributed to our knowledgeable society. Though, when it comes to the category of
psychology I believe that the Ancient Greeks contributed the most, specifically with their mythology.
A myth is defined as a traditional or legendary story, collection, or study. It is derived from the Greek
word mythos, which simply means story. The Greek myths had many purposes to the Greeks such as
teaching a moral lesson, explaining the origins of the world, explaining the origins of the gods and
their relationships with humans, and why certain events occurred in nature. The authors of each myth
were said to be divinely inspired by the Muses. The Muses were the goddesses of artistic inspiration.
These Muses were thought to whisper in the ear of the author the adventures of the gods. Thus, myths
held a sacred place in ancient Greece as they were seen to be divinely inspired and were meant to
express an important message about life or the gods to the people.
Not only was mythology important to the Ancient Greeks, but forward a couple millenniums later and
a great psychologist was influenced by the importance of the myths as well Sigmund Freud. Freud was

character type because they are seen as violent, uncontrollable and sexualized in the film. Gus, also
has coon tendencies, however, in the way his character expresses himself. His eyes are very big and
full of expression, and seem to be laughed at a lot. He is used as comic relief in addition to his role as
an instigator to the Ku Klux Klan. When he comes onto Flora, he is overly sexual and aggressive
towards her. He seems to be out of control as soon as the interaction starts, and ends with a chasing
scene through the forest. This goes along with the Moonlight and Magnolia theme that white women
are the epitome of beauty, and how frail and delicate they seem. Silas Lynch is also depicted as overly
aggressive in his pursuit and proposal to Elsie Stoneman. This represents the fear of miscegenation, as
well as rape. The skewed view promotes the domination of women through portrayals of white
women and black soldiers. The Stoneman housekeeper, Lydia, is portrayed as a

Advantages And Disadvantages Of Using Refracting Telescopes
Refraction of light through different media
Light travels in waves through space in straight lines. In a vacuum the speed of light is 3x10⁸m/s,
when light travels through different substances called mediums, it will change speed depending on the
optical density. If light travels through a medium at a right angle, it s velocity will change but not the
direction. However if light enters the medium at an angle, it s direction and speed will change.
The index of refraction is the ratio of the speed of light in a vacuum to the speed of light in the
medium: n = c / v n = the medium c = the speed of light in a vacuum v = speed of light in a medium
(The index of refraction does not use any units)
For example, the refractive index of air is 1 and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Refracting telescopes are more reliable because they are permanently fixed which in turn makes the
images produced steadier and clearer
Disadvantages of Refracting telescopes
There are many disadvantages when using refracting telescopes. One of which is chromatic aberration.
Chromatic Aberration happens when light travel through the glass lens and the different colours that
make up white light refract at different angles. This causes the observer to see a rainbow around the
image they are viewing.
One way to counteract the effects of chromatic aberration is to use multiple compensating lenses.
Another way to avoid chromatic aberration is to use a long object focal length this is the distance
between the focus and the objective
Another disadvantage is the difficulty of making the lenses. The objective lens need to have no
imperfections and the shape of the lens is thicker in the center and thunder on the edges which are the
only support_ hoch manes the lens v ey fragile on the edges and are more susceptible to damage
the largest objective lens for a refracting telescope is only 1 meter in

The American Of The British Empire
In marked contrast to the monarchy and the dispute about the rights of succession and control over the
Spanish Empire, the American colonies sought independence from the British monarchy and
government. The Americans wanted a completely new government, without a King or any form of
monarchy. While the Spanish crisis was one of leadership, connection to other empires, a desire to
avoid partition. The American crisis in government came about through the actions of the King, and
the colonists questioning the authority of the British Parliament to rule over them.
The American colonies served an important role in the British Empire during the first half of the 1700
s. King George III ascended to the throne in 1760, and took control of the empire and its vast
territories. The British Constitution provided for the monarchial rule, and two representative bodies
the House of Lords, and the House of Commons. None of the British colonies had representation in
these houses, and this proved to be the issue with the American colonies. The colonies administration
technically fell under the Privy Council and Secretary of State. Parliament made policy regarding the
colonies, and defined the economic relationship between England and the colonies. Governors acted
locally in the King s name and enforced the laws. The colonies also had their own political institutions
in the form of local assemblies, legislatures, and county, city and town governments. Most of the

The decision to pursue masters in engineering management...
The decision to pursue masters in engineering management has not happened suddenly. Over the past
5 years, several aspects of my studies and work built the passion and interest in the field.
I enjoyed my engineering education in general and did fairly well. However, I particularly excelled in
courses that dealt with management, communications and humanities. The following graph shows the
overall picture.
After my undergraduate studies, I decided to gain expertise in management but I also did not want to
lose my technology edge as I loved both disciplines. I got offers from Accenture (Fortune 500) and
Wipro (Top 4 IT companies in India) in my campus itself (offer letters enclosed). However, as both
were purely technical jobs, I rejected and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

The Theory Of Needs Theories And How An Individual s...
Motivation is the influence or drive for an individual to perform a specific act. In the past many
theorists have scrutinised the concept of needs theories and how an individual s human behaviour
works in order for them to be motivated. However it has also been a very heavy topic considering
different theorists have judged one another s perception on the notion of motivating factors. In the past
centuries, theorists have critically analysed the ways in which individuals are best motivated. A well
known psychologist Maslow (1943) believed that there are five levels of needs in order for an
individual to be fully motivated. His focus is more on the positive needs of employees. From the
Bottom of the pyramid comes the physiological needs or in other words basic needs, which consist of
necessities such as food, water, health and things that any human starts with. He stresses on the notion
of homeostasis as part of these needs, the body s automatic efforts to maintain a constant, normal state
of the bloodstream (Maslow 1943,p.270). When satisfied, they tend to search for safety needs; these
can be considered as job security. Such acts are moving from a job to a much safer one or even one
that have long term contracts. People will then look at the next level of social needs, to be ultimately
recognised by others, and to just fit in the workforce. The next level is the esteem needs, to feel good
about ones self, and to be praised by those higher on the organisational hierarchy.

the mining, construction and utility business. The expenditures, poor tax collection, a bloated civil

of Suriname started to interact in its economy to assist in stabilizing its money structure, by
introducing price controls to contain inflation. The government outlawed all prices increases on all of
it services and goods. Anyone or business that did not comply by the regulations or laws were faced
with harsh sanctions, confiscating or closing their businesses. The regulations stayed in place and kept
the economy on the rise until after the elections. Inflation started to rise as though the government had
did anything before. The government came back with another plan to regulate trade and ration
imported goods, but the business of smuggling thrived. These actions brought on an exchange rate
system, but the government did not fully understand the impact of the rate system. Inflation spiraled
out of control by 1994. The government came with a new plan to start printing its own money. The
government unified its exchange rates and reformed its tax and customs system. They also eliminated

American Born Chinese Analysis
In American Born Chinese , the author used a very rare but interesting writing device called parallel
plots where the story is actually more than one story to tell different plots to try and give the same
overall meaning and message and I thought the author did a great job of doing so. He did use the basic
elements for story writing though including rising action, climax, falling action, conclusion, and even
some exposition too. The story follows three different plots to give one message that I believe the
author intended to give to the readers and it is that being different is normal, sometimes bad but good
too, and to accept your situation for what it is. The first plot element that is found throughout the novel
is exposition. Exposition is ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Pros And Cons Of Tattoos
Today, older generations view tattoos as trashy, unclassy, and unprofessional; while younger
generations think they are more acceptable, art like, and a way to further express yourself. Tattoos
today are becoming more accepted by the younger generations. As a result of this it is now much
easier to have visible tattoos in a workplace today, then it was years ago, but tattoos still have a long
way to go before being completely accepted like they are amongst other countries, and/or cultures.

in the workplace. USA Today published an interview with a man named Richard Bailey. Bailey is 45

social services sector. Based on his experience in the workplace there, he said that people were very

questions this by asking, How does a person s artwork on their skin, deem them different to the norm
of society? , following with Having tattoos does not affect your suitability for a job. ( Bailey, Kevin )
If this statement is true, then why has it been so hard for people with visible tattoos to get jobs? With
roughly 45 million Americans having tattoos today, ( The Progression of Social Acceptance of Tattoos

The Parthenon was built to express greatness of their influential society and honor the goddess
Athena. The Golden Age of Athens is some times referred to as the Age of Pericles, one of the greatest
leaders seen throughout our history. The Parthenon would not have been possible without the efforts
and supervision of Pericles, one of the greatest historical leaders. Pericles dominated Greek politics
for over twenty years. He gained his political start with the help of Ephialtes, together they
reorganized the voting process to involve a popular assembly destroying the power of the Areopagus
or the old noble council. This action completely reformed the democratic system in Athens. This
reform was affluential part to the legend of the power of Athenian democracy. (PBS) Many critiques
of Pericles made gabs at this personal life in which his first wife born him two legitimate sons, he later
divorced her. His later foreign lover was Aspasia she was described by Socrates as the most intelligent
and witty woman of her time. Pericles treated her as an equal, which was unheard of during that age.
They lived together but were never married. It was common for them to host the most intellectual
company for parties and conversation. Pericles was forced to defend Aspasia in a trial has he later
gained power, and the only way his rivals could harm Pericles was by attacking those that were close
to him.(PBS)

Negative Effects Of Overfishing
Many people tend to not realize what goes on with the everyday life with oceans. Not just what occurs
in the oceans, but what humans are doing to the oceans. One of the multiple negative impacts that
humans have to the oceans include overfishing. Everyday, fish are caught by the hundreds because of
humans, which plays a major impact on marine life. As the the days, months, and years go by, marine
life within the oceans becomes less healthy due to overfishing by humans. Overfishing has been
occurring for decades and if it continues to happen at such a great rate, fish in the ocean will become
endangered or even extinct. Close to 90 percent of the world s marine fish stocks are now fully
exploited, overexploited or depleted ( Time is ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Without fish being a choice of food, more demand will be needed for different types of food and will
cause an impact. One of the many marine life animals that gets overfished today are sharks. If sharks
keep getting overfished, the entire marine food chain will become greatly affected. Humans
continuously eliminate sharks, which are the leading predators of the oceans, at a such fast rate and
will cause a trophic cascade. A trophic cascade is when the top predators in any system are being
eliminating. Due to the fact that sharks are being killed constantly, its prey are growing rapidly in
population and offsetting marine life (Irish Times). Sharks are very important within the ocean and are
a big part of the ecosystem. Without them, the ecosystem would become very unbalanced which will
happen if overfishing the sharks continues. Not only are sharks being overfished, but scallops and
other shellfish are too. The result of this leads to water quality suffering (Irish Times). With bad water
quality, it makes it harder for all types of marine life to live their day to day life at full potential health.
With humans constantly overfishing, it leads to fish being either threatened, endangered, or even
extinct. Certain species are actually rare now due to overfishing (Hanson Harding). The fish are not
getting the proper amount of time that they need in order to grow and have babies before they get

The Origins Of Code Switching
The origins of code switching go back to the first mention of it in 1948 by Hoijer. He published new
terms which are closed in meaning to code switching known as a phonemic alternation and phonemic

issued a book named Coexistent Phonemic Systems (1949) which discussed a phenomenon of
phonemic alternation between monolingual people. They reached a conclusion says that in any a

Because I Could Not Stop For Death Housman Analysis
Death is quite scary thought isn t it? After all, it is a subject many people don t like to talk about. We
all fear death in some ways, such as losing a loved one, not knowing if they re still happy and even not
knowing what might come after death. Regardless of how we all feel on such a sad matter, it is truly
inevitable and we must all accept it. If we begin to look at death in a more beautiful way and not so
sinister, we can have a better understanding. In the two poems, Because I Could Not Stop For Death
by Emily Dickinson s and To An Athlete Dying Young by A.E. Housman while the theme differs, they
are much alike in some ways. Emily Dickinson s poem, Because I Could Not Stop For Death gives me
a sense of peace when it comes to death. The theme portrays death as a easy, peaceful ride when one
passes away. The overall metaphor here is comparing death to a carriage ride. She describes death as a
calm person, and she seemed to trust him as he took her through the town to her death, It felt like she
was getting one last ride to say goodbye and let go. The line We slowly drive He knew no haste gives

me feel a connection to a person i don t even know, I can imagine the crowd cheering on the person
and how quiet it must be the day he or she dies. Another line from the poem says it withers quicker
than the rose this is metaphor for how the cheerfulness of the town withered away after such a great
loss. The overall theme is very heartbreaking, the complete opposite of how I felt reading Emily
Dickinson s poem. Reading this I really felt like I was a part of the town that lost such a young

The Economic Factors Of Slave Labor In The 1600s In America
In Virginia, the Chesapeake Bay area during the 1600s the slave community evolved over a long
period of time. Problems occurred regarding their labor that had an important influence on the switch
to a society dominated by slave labor. During the 1600s labor in the Chesapeake shifted to slave
society because of a shift in culture, economic issues, and frustrations of the tobacco market boom.
Each of these reasons all relates back to the labor problem the colonists were facing in Virginia. As
mentioned above, one of the reasons that shifted the Chesapeake Bay area into a slave society was a
shift in culture. In the early decades, people s economic status was an important identifier for what
benefits they could receive, or what they could and could not do. Later in the century, this all changes.
Anthony Johnson, who is African, arrives in the Chesapeake in 1621. When Anthony arrived, he was
considered unfree and worked in a tobacco field with both whites and blacks since at this time
economic status was still the main identifier for individuals. Anthony Jackson was considered an
unusual or lucky man for many reasons. In fact, some of the reasons that made him incredibly lucky
was that he did not die from diseases unlike other people in the Chesapeake, he finds a female
companionship who also survives, and in 1630 Anthony buys both his and his wife s freedom. In
addition, another unusual thing about Anthony was that in 1640 he becomes a plantation owner.

During the 1920s, there was a rise in economy of the United States. The people of the United States
and its territories enjoyed a prosperous life, as the economy grew 7 percent per year between 1922 and
1927. In this period, also referred as Roaring Twenties , there was high economic growth with increase
in the living standards of Americans.
According to the textbook, Nation of Nations , the reasons for the economic expansions in the

No industries boom more than automobile manufacturing. Henry Ford helped to make the boom
possible by making the automobile affordable to the Americans. Transportation was the main basis of
economic growth. Construction industry stimulated other business like steel, lumber, concrete and
insurance. It changed the nations eating habits. The employment rate was higher and living standard of
the people increased. Lower Production costs increased sales and consumers spend more to purchase
goods.
In the book, American Stories , it states that American people enjoyed the highest standard of living of
any nation on earth. In the 1920s, United States emerged as the worlds richest and most highly
developed nations. The key factor for the industrial boom and economic development lay in the hands
of technological advancements. Business, advertising and marketing, mass productions and other
industrial developments were the main reasons of the development of the US economy.
The economic boom peaked in 1922 until its end in1927. During this period, there was growth in
consumer goods producing industries. Also, the industrial output nearly doubled and American
workers became the highest paid in history. The automobile industrial boom was the nations largest in
the 1920s and more people afforded cars for transportation. The electrical industry grew quickly and

Music Is An Art That The Tones
Assignment Music is an art that the tones have been arranged accordingly sequence, and produce a
unified and continuous composition (Webster s II New Riverside University Dictionary, 1984). Music
does not have any fixed form but it has different meaning for different people. I think that music is a
sound that is filled with a person s emotions, feelings, and thoughts; meanwhile it can also affect a
person feelings and thought. I like brisk and lively songs that make me feel happy and relax, instead of
heavy sad song or strong rhythm hit song because I can easily be emotional. Among all other songs,
Wide Awake sung by an American singer named Katy Perry is a meaningful song for me. I still
remember the first time I listened to this song was in the evening, and I had just went back from
school and was having a rest in the living room while watching Astro Hitz with my sister. This song
showed up in the television and I cannot move my eyes away from Katy Perry s music video. It was so
touching and powerful for me, I can feel the beat, bass, pitch, and the lyrics that played around my
head. It is an amazing song that I had ever heard and it touched my heart. I always wanted to live in a
world that has no war, no natural disaster, no pollution, and everyone is so kind and nice. Yet, it was
just a dream for me because the reality shown us that everything in this world may not always be
wonderful. Sometimes, I feel like escaping myself from this world because everyone would

2009). Nurses view that it is essential to form a relationship with the patient in order to provide care
for the dying. It depends on the level of engagement of the nurse on how easily or how hard she can
cope with the lost a patient (Shorter Stayt 2009). Some nurses immersed themselves and put
themselves on the patient s shoes in order to develop that connection often times they would even
asked relatives how the patient was like when he/she was still well. The significance to the staff is also
influenced more if both the caregiver and the patient shared the same demographics and culture. On
the contrary some nurses try to distant themselves and try to avoid being too close to the patient and
the family to shield them from grief. Nurses view patient death in two ways (a). Good death and (b).
Bad death.( shorter Stayt 2009). A good death is when the nurse is prepared and knows that death is
imminent. The nurse has an idea on how the course of the treatment will be,it is therefore deemed less
traumatic for them. Bad death happens when the demise of the patient is sudden. Feelings of regret
and guilt plagues the caregiver, often wondering what could have been done to avoid death. Pragmatic
The operationalized view regarding this concept can be understood on the implication of the analysis

Brief History Of Development Of The Drug
Brief History of the development of the drug
Prior to the 1950s main way of treating depression was via barbiturates and amphetamines, however
in the 1950s Iproniazid the first monoamine oxidase inhibitor (MAOI) and Imipramine the first
tricyclic antidepressant (TCA) were developed and found to have more antidepressant activity
compared to the previous barbiturates and amphetamines. [1] [2]
The discovery of the first TCA was huge, as it became the most common method to treat depression
for many years. TCAs worked by blocking both the serotonin transporter (SERT) and the
norepinephrine transporter (NET) meaning there would be an increased concentration of both
serotonin and norepinephrine within the patient. The downside was that TCAs had ... Show more

After discovering this Astra developed a drug name Zimelidine from antihistamine and launched this
drug into Europe in 1982 making it the first selective serotonin reuptake inhibitor (SSRI) to be
marketed for depression. However, Zimelidine was only on the market for a few years before it was
withdrawn due to serious adverse effects including Guillian Barre syndrome a potentially fatal
neuropathy. [1] [2]
Following this failure Astra stopped researching into SSRI s, however Eli and Lilly Co (a US
pharmaceutical company) were also researching into SSRI at the same time. Eli and Lilly Co had also
synthesised a drug from an antihistamine that was called Fluoxetine or (LY110140) in 1971.
Fluoxetine was approved by the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) on December 29 1987, and
launched under trade name of Prozac in January 1988. In 2005 it was announced that Prozac had been
prescribed to over 40 million patients and had amassed over US$22 billion in sales in the United
States. [1] [2]
Therapeutic Uses and Mechanism of Action
Fluoxetine (or Prozac) is a SSRI, is prescribed to patients mainly to treat depression, but also
obsessive compulsive disorder (OCD) and panic disorders. Depression is a psychological disorder,
which is marked by a series of events including poor moods, low self esteem, diminished interest and
lack of pleasure in most activities. Depression does not only have an effect on the individual but it also

What Is Ultra s Role In Ww2
ULTRA was a code name for information collected from enemy signals during World War II.
Brigadier Bill Williams, a top British intelligence adviser, credited ULTRA with providing the military
with intelligence that would ensure defeat of the Germans. Though this claim is an exaggeration,
ULTRA certainly was an important factor in the triumph of the Allies over the Germans and Italians (
Axis ) during World War II. The insight it provided into the Axis strategies and plans played an
important role in battles on water, land, and in the air. The existence of ULTRA allowed for the British
to curb the continued domination of the Germans across Europe by using their own communication
system against them. ULTRA played a vital role in Allied success ... Show more content on

ULTRA not only informed the Allies of the Axis s fuel and ammunition shortages, it also allowed for
the Allies to further disrupt the Axis oil industry. The extreme effectiveness of the bombing campaign
of the oil industry was having on German military forces was relayed to the Allied forces through
ULTRA. ULTRA also supplied the Allies with the information that the oil and ammunition shortages
were not limited to a section of German forces but existed throughout all of them. A specific example
of the Allies exploitation of this information was during the struggle for domination of the air over
Sicily. During this time ULTRA helped Allied forces locate Axis forces on the airfields in Sicily and
southern Italy. The exploitation of Axis weaknesses were possible with the help of ULTRA intercepts.
ULTRA evened the playing field between the smaller British air force and the Luftwaffe, almost
double the size of the British force during World War II. Air Marshal Arthur Tedder concluded that air
superiority is a condition for all operations, at sea, in land, and in the air and ULTRA certainly aided in
the British s fight for that

Persuasive Essay About Monuments
Monuments take a lot of planning to be done. An agency or group should consider these factors for
memorializing an event or person and creating a memorial to the past. Its size, location, materials, and
what it represents in the town s history or history at all, how it makes people feel , and is it good or
bad part of our history . All those factors should be taken in perspective in the decision. Monuments
should show history of the place it was built. But Savannah is rich in history and should be
presented.... and More than 3,000 graves fill the cemetery , dated as early as 1847... the area was also
an Indian burial ground before the corpses of settlers filled the place . Bruesch said. This person??
doesn t want them to remove this place in history. This shows location the monuments they wanted to

controversy grew, the supporters of the museum on The Mall would enhance The Malls already

Theme Of Their Eyes Were Watching God
Oprah Winfrey lied on the opposite end of Zora Neale Hurston s spectrum when she produced her
atrocious rendition of Hurston s stellar novel, Their Eyes Were Watching God. She modified
characters and symbols, altered the theme and relationships, and utterly desolated the significance of
the title, making it almost unrecognizable to someone who has read the book. Winfrey totally
eviscerated Hurston s unsurpassed novel, extrapolating what she thought important without going in
depth in to the true meaning of the story. Oprah took Hurston s writing and morphed it into her own
abominable movie.

order to show that she controlled her life. Zora ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Oprah s reconstruction of Tea Cake s character changes the way he acts and conclusively his outcome
in the movie to the viewer.
The overall theme of Their Eyes Were Watching God, a journey, was desolated by Oprah Winfrey who
morphed it into a love story. Oprah perceived the book to have to do with Janie Crawford going
through life to find love and not a journey of Janie going through her life and experiencing various
events. ...it was one of the most beautiful, poignant love stories I ve ever read (Dir. Darnell). Oprah
misconceived the theme when reading and portrayed the theme of her movie to encase love and Janie
s progress for love. Oprah s rendition of Their Eyes Were Watching God reduces the novel s
complexities of race, gender, and history to pretty costumes, lush backgrounds, and sexy bodies
(Ceptus). The change in theme creates an overall change in the movie, making it into a movie of love
and romance and takes the true meaning away from the story in the book. Oprah carelessly produced
this movie, distorting the theme, focusing it on Janie and her searching for love as opposed to her
journey and experiences through life.
Oprah Winfrey even altered or left out symbols like the horizon and the gate, which had a significant
part in how the story worked itself out, therefore, it changed the overall story when altering the
symbols. The horizon played an

Not Without Laughter Analysis
Adulthood has consistently been shaped owing to the experiences and know how learned in childhood,
specifically from the central people and events during this time period. Hughes s semi
autobiographical novel, Not Without Laughter, tells of the journey into adulthood of Sandy, who is
constantly exposed to oppression and racism through his own experiences and those of his many
family members. It follows his attempts to better himself for the sake of his family and the
community. Sandy s development throughout the novel is shaped by the lessons he learns with the

neighborhoods such as De Botoms that show no aspiration , and hope of the future from Tempy s ...

When Harriett says that she hates white people for mistreating and abusing her, Hager just tells her not
to hate them and let love and prayer make them better. She tells Harriet, Honey, don t talk that way,

them. I was in slavery, Harrie, an I been knowin white folks all ma life, an they s good as far as they

Sandy insight on the idea of praying for the better, which is one way of finding change for the
oppression he faces. Although this is a good sentiment, it only gives Sandy a view of somewhat
outdated ideals. Hager s coping strategy is more of a pacifist way of going about things, which is fine
for the time and experiences that she has faced, but Sandy takes this in as a past strategy which he
does embody in some ways, although he also recognizes that this is not the only way and that he
should not be satisfied with only this. He also sees this sort of contentment in the present state of his

  • 2. Searle Vs Sartre With philosophy, nothing is black and white. Deciphering philosophical views is unlike anything else because there is more depth and analysis that has to be put into play. It is about understanding what the philosopher is trying to get across while making inferences about what they truly mean or could mean. The thing about it is that at some times it tends to be a contradiction within itself: while certain things can be true under certain circumstances, the opposite could be true under different circumstances. Many ideas are hard to grasp and can be interpreted in various ways depending on how people want to take it. One can say that John Searle and Jean Paul Sartre have a plethora of beliefs in common yet really none at all. If they were assessing each other s views, they would agree and disagree on their stances on different topics. While Searle may believe one thing some ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Man is born, and then he defines himself. I believe that Searle would disagree with this. He would say that our brain and its predetermined functions play a large role in everyday decisions and life choices. Searle almost likes to believe that human are machines in referring to their syntactical processes. It seems to me that he thinks our brains are wired a certain way, and I do not thing Sartre could agree. In one conclusion he drew, Searle wrote, What we mean by that is that mental processes that we consider to constitute a mind are caused, entirely caused, by processes going on inside the brain. . . . Brains cause minds (Searle 39). By this, I believe he means that brains and minds are part of a human s essence, therefore, he would probably believe that essence precedes existence. When breaking it down and looking at their perspectives this way, Sartre and Searle differ greatly. Searle most likely would not agree with that main theme in Sartre s ... • 3. The Future For Trade Unions 1. The future for trade unions Trade unions have played a crucial role in developing a democratic society in terms of monitoring and enforcement in the areas of wages and employment conditions. (Landau et al 2014, ????) It has been argued that the Industrial Commission gave Australia both political and competitive advantage and provided both members and non members, significant workplace gains throughout most of the 20th century. (Ref) Whilst not formally united with the Australian Labour Party (ALP), the Australian Council of Trade Unions (ACTU) has sustained close association with it. The ACTU has played a critical role in Australian politics. Bob Hawke was president of the ACTU from 1970 to 1980, and went on to become labour prime minister from 1983 to 1991. The establishment of Australia s Industrial Relations Reform Act in 1993, which was intended to streamline the collective bargaining process, largely resulted in a decline in ACTU membership. (Ref) In 2006, the Howard governments WorkChoices laws came in to effect. Employees saw this as opportunity to remove unfair dismissal protection, while reducing employee entitlement, removing the independent industrial arbitrator and ultimately weakening trade union muscle. (Wilson Spies Butcher 2011) In 2006 07, a critical movement came with the ACTU s Your rights at work campaign. The campaigns objective was to build enough opposition to WorkChoices in order to defeat the government during the 2007 election. It ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. Mary Rowlandson And Benjamin Franklin Every colonist that came to America had their own perceptions of its inhabitants. The majority of these people believed the Native Americans were savages because their culture differed from the colonists. To the colonists, everything needed to be proper. The way they dressed, whether or not they went to church, or how they raised their children needed to be up to code. If not, their fellow colonists looked differently at them. The natives were entirely different. Their goal was simply to survive, and they were conducting survival the best way they knew how to. The differences between the two cultures led to many severe problems. Mary Rowlandson and Benjamin Franklin had two entirely different views of the Native Americans, based upon their encounters with them. Mary Rowlandson believed the Native Americans were savage, blood thirsty creatures that were either going to kill or be killed. In her story, she supports her claim by using vivid imagery of a major event that took place during her lifetime. A very interesting quote from Rowlandson s literature is It is a solemn sight to see so many Christians lying in their blood, some here, and some there, like a company of sheep torn by wolves, all of them stripped naked by a company of hell hounds, roaring, singing, ranting, and insulting, as if they would have torn our very hearts out (Rowlandson). This quote uses an incredible amount of imagery and allows the reader to see just how Rowlandson feels about the natives. In ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 5. Lee de Forest Lee De Forest Lee De Forest was born Aug. 26, 1873, Council Bluffs, Iowa. De Forest was the son of a Congregational minister. His father moved the family to Alabama and there assumed the presidency of the nearly bankrupt Talladega College for Negroes. Excluded by citizens of the white community who resented his father s efforts to educate blacks, Lee and his brother and sister made friends from among the black children of the town and spent a happy although sternly disciplined childhood in this rural community. (A Science Odyssey: People and Discoveries, 1999). By the time he died he had over 300 patents, but few of them ever had much success. In fact, De Forest seemed to have a long streak of failures. He was regularly involved in patent lawsuits (indeed, he spent his fortune on legal bills). He went through four marriages, had a number of failed companies, was defrauded by his business partners, and was even once indicted (but later acquitted) for mail fraud. (Kraeuter, 79). With the audion, however, De Forest had a solid success. De Forest has been labeled one of the fathers of the electronic age, since the audion helped start the explosion of electronics earlier this century. • 6. Advantages And Disadvantages Of Simulation Simulation is a software package for modeling, simulating, and analyzing dynamical systems. It supports linear and non linear systems, modeled in continuous time, sampled time, or a hybrid of the two. Systems can also be multi rate, i.e., have different parts that are sampled or updated at different rates. For modeling, Simulink provides a graphical user interface (GUI) for building models as block diagrams, using click and drag mouse operations. With this interface, you can draw the models just as you would with pencil and paper (or as most textbooks depict them). This is a far cry from previous simulation packages that require you to formulate differential equations in a language or program. • 7. Significant Event Research Paper What is a significant event , truly I mean? A baby s first step, high school graduation, or even the pay raise that benefits you with a very very generous paycheck. A significant event to me is to have a realization or occurrence that changes your perspective. In my case, i have had so many negative events occur, it should be illegal. In this case it was an incident in which caused a major realization, an AHA!! moment, an epiphany. I went to a chinese restaurant and ate some shrimp fried rice and eggrolls, but after dinner was over of course the waiter brought the bill and a few fortune cookies. We all finished eating and opened the cookies. I usually don t take the fortunes seriously but this one actually made me think. Not just think, but truly question and reconsider everything i could possibly byass on a day to day basis. I take in the words, Broke is temporary, poor is a state of mind (Little dragons fortune cookie). Of course being me, I overanalyzed and overthought but it took a certain memory for me to actually understand and recognize the true significance of this quote. • 8. The And Treatment Of The Poor Vs. The United States An analysis of the documents pertaining to colonial Wethersfield, Connecticut (1750s 1780s) revealed that Document N accurately characterizes the time period. The three main ideas found in Document N are ascribed to the treatment of the poor vs. the treatment of the rich, the amount of power both political and religious held by Congressionalists, and the presence of religion in the law. In order to further understand the document and fully grasp these ideas, aspects of the time period had to be examined. Two very important aspects of this period were religion and politics. Like the other colonies, colonial Wethersfield held religion in high esteem. In examining the documents, it was easy to see how heavily religion influenced the law. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Documents B and C represent the distribution of taxable property (Document B) as well as the distribution of land holdings (Document C) that took place in 1756 and 1773. In a letter written by Silas Deane, a Wethersfield merchant and Connecticut delegate to the First Continental Congress, to Patrick Henry, a Virginia delegate to the First Continental Congress, on January 2, 1775, Silas wrote: [The Connecticut man s] first principle is to possess a disencumbered freehold, be it ever so small, in preference to the largest under quit rents and landlords...for a Connecticut farmer with two hundred and fifty or three hundred acres of good land, is a rich man, that is, as rich as he wishes to be (Document F). In that letter, Silas Deane asked Patrick Henry to grant permission to a group of Connecticut settlers and allow them to travel to an Ohio settlement in hopes of procuring the land. By interpreting the above quote, it s easy to visualize the colonial belief that to own a piece of land, even a small one, provides a greater sense of accomplishment than living on a larger property owned by someone else. Document N originates from the General History of Connecticut, a book published by Reverend Samuel Peters in 1781. It was notorious for the uncomplimentary ways in which the colonists were depicted, as well as the distortion of the Connecticut Blue Laws, a term used to describe the laws regulating ... • 15. Consumerism And The Conformity Of Consumer Culture The dominance of capitalist countries has facilitated the conformity of global civilization and cultural environments resulting in an increase of consumer cultures (Sarmela, 1977; Chaney, 2004). As capitalism experiences a natural and unavoidable expansion, consumers engage with consumer culture creating invisible products such as social status, identity, cultures, and ethical relationships (Sternberg, 2017). There are two sides to consumer culture that are the values held by society; those who conform and those who rebel (Turow McAllister, 2014). All participants of society align with either submission or resistance to dominant ideas, values, and social structures. However, as a result of continued progressive diversity and fragmentation, the distinction between submissive and resistance are blurred. Nevertheless, those who resist and rebel are still participants of consumer culture. Instead they instead form sub cultures in society with alternative beliefs, values and ideas that challenge the mainstream (Chaney, 2004). In order to better understand the relationship between consumption practice and the resistance of consumer culture, theories of reflexive project of self, prosumers, lifestyle commodification, and incorporation will be analyzed in relation to the vegan movement. Prominent media scholar, John Fiske (1989), theorized numerous ways in which the consumption of media and prevalent culture, even shopping itself, could be conceptualized as acts of resistance. Resistance can be defined as the ways in which a subcultural style and activity works to challenge the dominant social order (Southerton, 2011). Veganism is becoming an increasingly popular lifestyle choice for health and environmental conscious individuals and is viewed as a form of resistance to mainstream consumption practices. The consumer develops their identity as someone who does not use animal derived food or products of any kind such as; dairy, eggs, fur, leather, feathers, or any goods involving animal testing (Lawrence, 1993). Veganism is an extended form of vegetarianism, and though the term was defined in 1944, the concept of a plant based diet can be traced back to ancient Indian and Eastern Mediterranean societies (Suddath, ... Rhetorical Analysis Of Richard Nixon s Resignation Richard Nixon s Resignation Address In 1974 after the Watergate scandal, Richard Nixon became the first and only president to resign the office. His speech to the American public was meant to inform everyone about his resignation and to clear his name, but ultimately his speech was ineffective because of the lack of ethos, a remorseful tone, and an apology. Richard Nixon opens the speech by stating he always tried to do what was best for the nation throughout his presidency. This seems like an attempt to build his ethos, but fails because instead of apologizing and moving on he defends his actions. Nixon continues to play the victim and blames congress for his lack of support. What most people often forget is that the Ancient Greeks were and still are such a great influence towards our Western culture. Of course, they are not the only ones who have contributed to our knowledgeable society. Though, when it comes to the category of psychology I believe that the Ancient Greeks contributed the most, specifically with their mythology. A myth is defined as a traditional or legendary story, collection, or study. It is derived from the Greek word mythos, which simply means story. The Greek myths had many purposes to the Greeks such as teaching a moral lesson, explaining the origins of the world, explaining the origins of the gods and their relationships with humans, and why certain events occurred in nature. The authors of each myth were said to be divinely inspired by the Muses. The Muses were the goddesses of artistic inspiration. These Muses were thought to whisper in the ear of the author the adventures of the gods. Thus, myths held a sacred place in ancient Greece as they were seen to be divinely inspired and were meant to express an important message about life or the gods to the people. Not only was mythology important to the Ancient Greeks, but forward a couple millenniums later and a great psychologist was influenced by the importance of the myths as well Sigmund Freud. The American Of The British Empire In marked contrast to the monarchy and the dispute about the rights of succession and control over the Spanish Empire, the American colonies sought independence from the British monarchy and government. The Americans wanted a completely new government, without a King or any form of monarchy. While the Spanish crisis was one of leadership, connection to other empires, a desire to avoid partition. The American crisis in government came about through the actions of the King, and the colonists questioning the authority of the British Parliament to rule over them. The American colonies served an important role in the British Empire during the first half of the 1700 s. King George III ascended to the throne in 1760, and took control of the empire and its vast territories. The British Constitution provided for the monarchial rule, and two representative bodies the House of Lords, and the House of Commons. None of the British colonies had representation in these houses, and this proved to be the issue with the American colonies. In the past many theorists have scrutinised the concept of needs theories and how an individual s human behaviour works in order for them to be motivated. However it has also been a very heavy topic considering different theorists have judged one another s perception on the notion of motivating factors. In the past centuries, theorists have critically analysed the ways in which individuals are best motivated. A well known psychologist Maslow (1943) believed that there are five levels of needs in order for an individual to be fully motivated. His focus is more on the positive needs of employees. From the Bottom of the pyramid comes the physiological needs or in other words basic needs, which consist of necessities such as food, water, health and things that any human starts with. He stresses on the notion of homeostasis as part of these needs, the body s automatic efforts to maintain a constant, normal state of the bloodstream (Maslow 1943,p.270). When satisfied, they tend to search for safety needs; these can be considered as job security. Such acts are moving from a job to a much safer one or even one that have long term contracts. People will then look at the next level of social needs, to be ultimately recognised by others, and to just fit in the workforce. The next level is the esteem needs, to feel good about ones self, and to be praised by those higher on the organisational hierarchy. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

What I noticed first, was that everyone was gravitating to all the outer tables against the wall and front windows. Secondly, that I was the only Hispanic customer at that time. All customers were engaged in conversation, eating or watching the televisions. The employees were running around taking food orders and taking food out to customers. Most customers seemed to be in good spirts with the exception of one table. At this table there was an elderly woman with her daughter. The daughter was complaining that her mother received the wrong food and that it took too long for their order to come out. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

If sharks keep getting overfished, the entire marine food chain will become greatly affected. Humans continuously eliminate sharks, which are the leading predators of the oceans, at a such fast rate and will cause a trophic cascade. A trophic cascade is when the top predators in any system are being eliminating. Due to the fact that sharks are being killed constantly, its prey are growing rapidly in population and offsetting marine life (Irish Times). Sharks are very important within the ocean and are a big part of the ecosystem. Without them, the ecosystem would become very unbalanced which will happen if overfishing the sharks continues. Not only are sharks being overfished, but scallops and other shellfish are too. The result of this leads to water quality suffering (Irish Times). With bad water quality, it makes it harder for all types of marine life to live their day to day life at full potential health. With humans constantly overfishing, it leads to fish being either threatened, endangered, or even extinct. Certain species are actually rare now due to overfishing (Hanson Harding). We all fear death in some ways, such as losing a loved one, not knowing if they re still happy and even not knowing what might come after death. Regardless of how we all feel on such a sad matter, it is truly inevitable and we must all accept it. If we begin to look at death in a more beautiful way and not so sinister, we can have a better understanding. In the two poems, Because I Could Not Stop For Death by Emily Dickinson s and To An Athlete Dying Young by A.E. Housman while the theme differs, they are much alike in some ways. Emily Dickinson s poem, Because I Could Not Stop For Death gives me a sense of peace when it comes to death. The theme portrays death as a easy, peaceful ride when one passes away. The overall metaphor here is comparing death to a carriage ride. • 41. The Economic Factors Of Slave Labor In The 1600s In America In Virginia, the Chesapeake Bay area during the 1600s the slave community evolved over a long period of time. Problems occurred regarding their labor that had an important influence on the switch to a society dominated by slave labor. During the 1600s labor in the Chesapeake shifted to slave society because of a shift in culture, economic issues, and frustrations of the tobacco market boom. Each of these reasons all relates back to the labor problem the colonists were facing in Virginia. As mentioned above, one of the reasons that shifted the Chesapeake Bay area into a slave society was a shift in culture. In the early decades, people s economic status was an important identifier for what benefits they could receive, or what they could and could not do. Later in the century, this all changes. Anthony Johnson, who is African, arrives in the Chesapeake in 1621. When Anthony arrived, he was considered unfree and worked in a tobacco field with both whites and blacks since at this time economic status was still the main identifier for individuals. Nurses view that it is essential to form a relationship with the patient in order to provide care for the dying. It depends on the level of engagement of the nurse on how easily or how hard she can cope with the lost a patient (Shorter Stayt 2009). Some nurses immersed themselves and put themselves on the patient s shoes in order to develop that connection often times they would even asked relatives how the patient was like when he/she was still well. The significance to the staff is also influenced more if both the caregiver and the patient shared the same demographics and culture. On the contrary some nurses try to distant themselves and try to avoid being too close to the patient and the family to shield them from grief. Nurses view patient death in two ways (a). Good death and (b). Bad death.( shorter Stayt 2009). A good death is when the nurse is prepared and knows that death is imminent.
