Military Sufficiency
Issue is how much military capability is enough is it enough to have the same capabilities as potential
threats or should we pursue superior capabilities US leaders have varied greatly on how much is
enough Domestic strength
Important goal is to seek political cohesion, economic vitality, and good educational policies at home
because it will help country to prevail during war (increases domestic support and morale)
Economic vitality and educational strength also provide resources to implement national security, help
develop weapons to compete with enemies, and allow country to mobilize quickly in time of crisis
World Order Some argue that balance of power is best way to achieve world order
Others argue that we need to organize and civilize international politics to achieve world order 4
variations on how to do this:
1 Judicial approach resolve differences between countries through third party judges and arbitrators
2 Contractual approach use collective agreements to limit use of force (consider Kellogg Briand Pact)
3 Legislative approach League of Nations, UN
4 Diplomatic approach use diplomacy between national leaders to achieve stability Global Welfare
Protecting human rights and promoting democracy are the important methods here Doing these will

3d Printing And The 3d Printer s New Found Popularity...
In 1986 Charles Hull invented the 3D printer (Lewis). Hull s 3D printer has come a long way since
then, and in all those years 3D printing has finally shifted its way into the public eye. This bout of
fame and recognition for printers though is both a blessing as well as a curse. 3D printers are finally
being given the attention and appreciation they deserve; even President Obama saw their potential
when he gave a $30 million dollar grant to the National Additive Manufacturing Innovation Institute
in Ohio (Lewis). Unfortunately, the 3D printer s new found popularity comes with a price. Like any
budding young star the 3D printer is under constant scrutiny and has lost some of the freedom it once
had, freedoms like exemption from ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Once one creative medium is given free reign from intellectual property laws, what excuse is there not
to make exceptions for all other creative mediums as well? Why should books, photographs,
sculptures, digital artwork, etc. all not be liberated from intellectual property laws as well? Another
fear, held by both companies and consumers alike, is the possibility of counterfeit products.
Individuals would have the power and opportunity to print and sell different products to buyers who
believe they are purchasing and paying for the original and genuine product. Those who oppose
leaving 3D printers unrestricted also anticipate that it could lead to intellectual property laws being
eradicated completely, as the government loses complete control over 3D printing all together.
The current difference between all other creative mediums and 3D printers at this time is that all the
others are well established and known by the public throughout the world. 3D printing is still so
young, it was only in the 1980 s that engineers began to use 3D printers in their work (Barnett). Most
of the general public have only now begun to learn about the existence and understand what a 3D
printer is. Due to the fact that 3D printing is such a new and up and coming technology, it still has a
very long way to go development wise. 3D printers are far from being perfect. In order for 3D printing
to continue to expand though it needs to be nourished by both creativity and freedom.

Technology And Modern Technology
The invention of computers and the thrust of populations into the digital age was a vast, strong, and
immaculagte leap into the future. This aformentioned leap advanced communication from something
trivial to something worldly. With the use of the interweb we can now seize endless forums, messages,
emails, information, and worldwide communication on the whole. When communication first began to
be conceptualized by humans, at its core, it was just the simple act of conveying a message to another
being, using the necessarty means to carry the information with no fear of misunderstanding. The
whole point of communicating a message to someone is to mske sure they know what you mean so
you can further the collective knowledge. The internet was invented and created a whole new way to
communicate to others in a fast, inconsequential, and anonymous way to spread their messages to a
significantly larger amount of people. Businesses, schools, and relationships of all different categories
are withheld with the sentiment of the internet as a backbone to ensure that the relationshiup stays
alive and well. Businesses now check the social media pages of any person that may possibly work at
the company because the internet part of our person is now so integral to who we are, it is who we are.
Relationships and conversation grows stale, tired, and redundant over these technological engines, and
how we really behave face to face with someone is supressed, or sometimes forgotten.

Aboriginal Political Movement in Australia
Question: Aboriginal and Torres Strait Island peoples have since colonization been politically active.
Discuss drawing from readings and research about various forms of political engagement.
Since the beginning of European colonization in 1788, Aboriginal people have experienced
displacement, have been the targets of genocidal policies and practices, and have had families
destroyed through the forcible removal of children. Decades of colonial exploitation and a prolonged
systematic attempt to destroy Aboriginal people and culture have led to legislations and policies that
are punitive and restrictive towards Aboriginal people. Such legislation reflects the dominant society s
perceptions of Aboriginal people and how they ought to be ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

Aboriginal people did not have access to amenities, such as cinemas, hotels, cafés and swimming
pools, and suffered prejudice and suspicion as well as verbal and sometimes physical abuse (**). In
the town of Walgett they decided to picket the Walgett Returned Service League Club (RSL) as a
protest against the treatment of Aboriginal people. The media covered the Walgett RSL protest. The
central role of the film camera in this campaign demonstrated the growing sophistication of activists
who recognized the need to show city dwellers what was happening in country towns. Also captured
on tape was the vice president of the RSL who said he would never allow an Aboriginal to become a
member (Curthoys, 2011, 12). Such evidence was beamed into the living rooms of Australians with
the evening news and exposed an endemic racism. This film footage shocked city viewers and added
to the mounting pressure on the government.
The legacy of the Freedom Ride political action was a greater awareness of Aboriginal issues in a rural
context. Perkins and his fellow students had successfully stirred up debate and sparked discussion
around Australia on the state of Aboriginal affairs. Awakening media interest in Aboriginal affairs was
positioned in favor of the Black Australian cause, to the severe embarrassment of many white
townspeople in rural New South Wales. In the ensuing public debate, urban public knowledge of racial
discrimination grew, some

Speech About Push Up
9 Reasons Why You Should Incorporate Push Ups Into Your Daily Routine
Daily exercise is very important, but that doesn t mean you have to head to the gym or invest in
expensive equipment to do so. There is one form of exercise that you can do quickly, without any
special gear, and at any fitness level. The exercise is of course push ups, one of the oldest forms of
working out throughout history. However, thanks to all the high tech equipment available to us in the
modern age, the humble push up is often overlooked because it is so simple to perform. Don t be
fooled though, incorporating push ups into your daily fitness routine is extremely beneficial to your
health. Here are just a couple of reasons why this form of exercise is so beneficial.
1. Increased Endurance As Well As Upper Body Strength
Push ups are one of the most effectively ways to increase upper body strength without having to resort
to weight lifting. The major muscles used during a push up are the ones on the back of your arms,
front of your shoulders as well as your chest. Not only will push ups build and tone these muscles,
increasing your upper body strength, but you ll also be improving your endurance as well. ... Show

This is especially important if you spend large parts of your day sitting at a desk while working. The
effects of improper posture can be devastating on your health and comfort as you grow older, but push
ups strengthen the core muscles, which improves posture. Your torso is also exercised during push ups
to stabilize movement, which strengthens it and decreases the chances of back injuries. Anyone who
has suffered the debilitating effects of even a minor lower back injury will know important it is to
keep this vulnerable part of the body in good shape. In addition, the back muscles stretches during
push ups you are also increasing your

The Pros And Cons Of Standardized Testing For Students
Clammy hands, extreme anxiety, and increased heart rate are all symptoms that occur along side
standardized tests. Standardized tests have found their way into the center of American education.
These achievement tests are used to determine a student s performance in particular content areas for a
certain school year. The student s scores are then cross referenced to the scores of all other students
that took the same test (Haladyna). Many students work hard during their educational careers, only to
do poorly on a standardized test and lose their chances at being accepted into any decent college.
Standardized tests are not beneficial to the student nor to the teacher and are sometimes even harmful.
Students should be given standardized tests less frequently and educators should place less emphasis
on scores students receive on these tests. Standardized exams favor upper class majority students,
decrease the quality of public education, and ineffectively measure a student s achievement. By using
standardized tests to measure a student s academic ability and achievement, the education system is
giving the upper hand to higher class, racial majority students. Standard exams are racially biased and
include questions that favor white students. One study showed that average reading SAT score for
white students was 99 points higher than the average reading score of black students on the same test
(Jaschik). An explanation for such a drastic difference in scores lies within the

Hope And Love Through Adoption
Hope and Love Through Adoption
The benefits for both the child and the birth parents in an open adoption are boundless. Adoption is a
complex process that ultimately results in an awaiting family receiving the baby they have hoped for.
Thousands of children are placed in an adoptive family every year. The child, from the moment they
are handed into the arms of their new family, will grow up just like any other but their lives will also
be forever changed. After the child has been adopted, depending on the type of adoption, the birth
family can still stay in touch with the adoptive family and relationships can develop. Adoptees,
birthparents, and adoptive parents can benefit in unexpected ways by developing a relationship
through open ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The cooperation of both the biological and adoptive parents is key to nourishing the child and to
maintaining that beneficial relationship.
Closed adoption is almost the polar opposite to open adoption. Closed adoption is when the birth
parents seal their personal information and have no personal contact with the adoptive parents or the
child. The adoptive parents and the child cannot gain access to any personal identifying information
unless the biological parents unseal the records or the child meets the age required. This form of
adoption is extremely restrictive and often leaves the child wondering about their past and why they
were adopted. Most children are left with various questions that cannot be answered due to
maintaining the privacy of the birth parents. Although closed adoption can keep the adoptee and the
adoptive parents safe, if the birth parents were dangerous in any way, most children have to wait until
they are adults to search for information that may still be restricted. Some birth parents eventually
unseal the adoption files but request to not be contacted. Closed adoption can have as many
restrictions as the birth parents decided.
Within open and closed adoptions the rights and laws may vary. The rights for adoptees are different
than the rights for the birth parents. In several states, new laws are being passed in order to give the
adoptees information that they are looking for. Melanie Burney discusses in one of her

Research Paper On Guerrilla Marketing
As competitiveness between companies nowadays is every time more and more extended, brands need
to search for ways to make it stand out among the others. Guerilla marketing is one example of this
standing out goal.
Guerrilla marketing was originally a marketing strategy in which low cost, unconventional means
were used in a localized fashion to draw attention to an idea, product, or service. Today, guerrilla
marketing may also include promotion through a network of individuals, groups, or organizations
working to popularize a product or idea by use of such strategies as flash mobs, viral marketing
campaigns, or internet marketing.
The term guerrilla marketing is traced to guerrilla warfare, which employs atypical tactics to achieve
an objective.
Guerrilla marketing was initially used by small and medium sized businesses, but it is increasingly
being adopted by big business. This concept rises from a promotion that relies on imagination rather
than a big budget.

elements: 1. The formation of a humanistic altruistic system of values * Begins developmentally at an
early age with values shared with the parents. * Mediated through ones own life experiences, the
learning one gains and exposure to the humanities. * Is perceived as necessary to the nurse s own
maturation which then promotes altruistic behavior towards others. 2. Faith hope * Is essential to both
the carative and the curative processes. * When modern science has nothing further to offer the

are meaningful to the individual. 3. Cultivation of sensitivity to one s self and to others * Explores the
need of the nurse to begin to feel an emotion as it presents itself. * Development of one s own feeling

Rise Of Birth Control
Introduction
In 1965, President Johnson said, Less than five dollars invested in population control is worth a
hundred dollars invested in economic growth. The rise of contraception in the United States, like birth
control pill, was controversial, highly debated in courts and law, and once the movement got rolling, it
was hard to stop. When a Gallop Poll in 1936 asked if United States citizens favor the birth control
movement, 61 percent answered yes. This was a shocking discovery, because until that time
contraception seemed like a taboo topic. Today, manufacturing and selling birth control is legal in all
50 states. Family planning services are also now subsidized federal and state governments and
nonprofit and private organizations. This nationwide movement enables women to choose when they
start families. By allowing women to have the authority to utilize contraception, positive trends have
been seen in economic advancement, education attainment and population trends.
The Rise of Birth Control The first oral contraception, Envoid, was introduced in 1957. The problem
was that state laws prohibited physicians from prescribing the Pill and pharmacists from selling it.
Two major shifts in the access to birth control occurred about 50 years ago. In 1965, the trial Griswold
versus Connecticut ended restrictions on the sale of contraceptives. Federal government boosted
funding for family planning from 1964 to 1973, these changes are still making a positive impact today.

When men acknowledges that there are others that makeup the society in which he exists, the man

Don t Ask, Don t Tell Essay
Don t Ask, Don t Tell The issue of gays in the military has been controversial in the United States for
many decades. Over these decades there have been many different proposals as to what approach to
take in order to handle the situation of homosexuals in the military. However, in 1992 when Bill
Clinton was running for President of the United States, he made a promise to lift the ban on
homosexuals in the military if he was elected (Washington Post). Bill Clinton followed through with
his promise, and in December 1993 he instituted a defense directive that military applicants should not

It was in December 1993 that Clinton issued a defense directive that military candidates should not be
asked about their sexual orientation (Washington Post). This allowed gays who were not openly gay to
serve in the military, however it still prohibited openly gay people to serve in the military. Over the
years, the law has faced its share of challenges, many which ended up in a court room. In 2006, the
Supreme Court unanimously upheld Don t Ask, Don t Tell, and the law was also upheld five times in
federal courts (Washington Post). These doings have ultimately led up to the most recent actions
involving the law. In 2008, President Obama campaigned on the promise that he would fully repeal
the law (Washington Post). In 2010, both the Senate and House of Representatives voted to repeal the
law, allowing President Obama to sign the repeal. (USNI) This repeal effectively ended a 17 year ban
on open gays being able to serve in the United States military. Don t Ask, Don t Tell had two major
players, Bill Clinton who put the law into place and Barack Obama who repealed the law. In 1993,
when Clinton put the law into effect, the goal was that military men and women would be evaluated
on their conduct rather than their sexual orientation. (Klapper) This would also place into effect the
law that military personnel could not be asked about their orientation throughout the enlistment
process. (Klapper) Lastly, if there were a presumption made about

showed that two thirds of the people suffered neurological problems while one quarter of the people
suffered gastrointestinal problems. The neurological symptoms included headaches, mood alterations,
insomnia, dizziness, and fatigue. Abdominal pain, nausea, diarrhea, and vomiting were the
gastrointestinal symptoms that people experienced. The CDC concluded that the side effects that
people reported were mild and are common in the overall public. I disagree with the conclusion that
aspartame is safe. If aspartame was truly safe there would have been no reason for people to make
reports concerning the side effects they experienced from consuming aspartame. Yes, it s true that
nothing is considered 100 percent safe, but after 500 reports were received on the consumption of
aspartame it s easy to concluded that aspartame is not safe. As with any report or study you read the
material is only as accurate as the data that backs it up. If you search the internet you will find
numerous reports, studies, and articles listing the side effects of aspartame. I can t imagine that all of

Uncontrolled Driving Technology
Drifting off to sleep while driving can lead to a vehicle drifting off the road. An uncontrolled moving
vehicle is dangerous and can cause fatalities, injuries, property damage, as well as legal problems.
Staying alert and awake is crucial while driving. Rolling down the car windows creates wind in the
vehicle and can keep drivers from drifting to sleep. Passengers or hands free devices can allow the
driver to maintain an alert state of mind by engaging in conversations. Drivers of cars or trucks
sometimes find caffeine helpful to stay awake. None of these are guaranteed to prevent falling asleep
behind the wheel, and if it is possible the safest solution would be to not drive until you are fully alert
and able to give driving the focus needed. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Impossible is an almost irrelevant word when creativity, determination, and technology are combined
with a common goal. Recent attempts to apply technical advances to preventing and identifying
accidents due to falling asleep while driving have shown promise, but have not been able to go further
than prototypes. Cameras are able to record eye movements such as frequency and duration of blinks
as well as the space between the lids of the eye. This can be used to indicate the level of alertness (R.
Schleicher, 2008). The science is in place to make advances to an in car alert system for drivers, but it
would be unlikely to see it on the market in the very near future. Concerns from researchers noted that
the signal would not be effective because the device would not pick up on the fatigue of the driver
until after the eyes were showing signs of microsleep (lids staying closed for more than five seconds)
and this would likely be too late. (R. Schleicher, 2008) In addition, the cost of implementing a device
is not one the car manufacturers are going to want to pay for. Liability and privacy are more factors
that I believe will prevent a safety gadget of this type from being readily available to

Plays and dances had elements common to films scripts, sets, lighting, costumes, production,

At the Chicago 1893 World s Columbian Exposition, Muybridge gave a series of lectures on the
Science of Animal Locomotion in the Zoopraxographical Hall, built specially for that purpose in the

William Kennedy Laurie Dickson, chief engineer with the Edison Laboratories, is credited with the
invention of a practicable form of a celluloid strip containing a sequence of images, the basis of a
method of photographing and projecting moving images.[citation needed] Celluloid blocks were

Essay on Envy and Beauty in Snow White
Envy, Beauty, and Snow White Few people can grow up within today s society without knowing the
tale of Snow White. From the Grimm Brothers to Disney, it has been told and retold to children
throughout the ages. However, what is often overlooked are the true meanings within the story.
Fairytales typically have underlying messages that can be found written between the lines, generally in
terms of the key themes. Snow White discusses the themes of envy and beauty, and shows how
humans obsessions can lead to their own downfall as well as the harm of others. When focusing on the
relationship between Snow White and her step mother the Queen, it is evident that the combination of
these two themes results in a power struggle in which beauty ... Show more content on

Trina Schart Hyman reiterates this point in her analysis of story, particularly in examining the Queen,
where the ?only power was her beauty. She didn?t think about [Snow White] as a person. She hated
only what Snow White symbolized, which was youth and the power and beauty of youth? (Haase,
2003). It is interesting to note that when the Queen receives Snow White?s heart, she eats it. ?And [the
heart] was salted and cooked and the wicked woman ate it up, thinking that there was an end of Snow
White? (Grimm and Grimm 168). This is a remnant of a primitive cannibalistic belief that one
receives power and characters through what is consumed. By devouring what she is told to be Snow
White?s heart, the Queen believes she is capturing Snow White?s beauty and power within herself
(Sale, 1979). These instances show that the Queen was driven to act by her envy of Snow White?s
beauty, which was said to be more beautiful than her own. As she saw Snow White?s beauty as a
threat to her own (and through it, her power), she saw the need to eliminate Snow White completely.
In consuming Snow White?s heart not only is she celebrating her triumph over Snow White, but she is
reinforcing her own beauty and vitality. However, as those who are familiar with the story know, this
was not the end of Snow White. When the Queen finds out Snow White escapes death from the
huntsman and ends up living with seven dwarfs, she still considered Snow White a

The Power of Conformity Essay
The Power of Conformity
Conformity refers to an individual s behavior that is performed because of group pressure, even
though that pressure might not involve a direct request. Many people want to think that they are
conformist enough so that they are not looked upon as strange to others and nonconformist enough to
demonstrate that they are capable of thinking by themselves. For many years, psychologists have been
interested in human conformity. Usually when people are in groups, they behave according to how
those in the group behave. That indicates that conformity can affect a person s behavior and make a
person do things that may be against their ethics, attitudes, and morals. The study of ... Show more

An experimenter held up one of the cards and the subjects had to match on of the lines with the single

answered correctly as well. On the third pair of cards, the seven subjects answered wrong to see if the
eighth subject would conform or answer correctly. Asch found out that 75% of the subjects conformed
at least once in the trials, but not one person conformed every time. The other 25% did not conform

support, attraction and commitment to the group, size of the group, and sex. Asch did the same
experiment with a slight variation. He changed the answers of the seven subjects so that one of them
always gave the right answer. This comforted the real subject and only 5% of the subjects agreed with
the group answer. This social support experiment showed that if one person gives the same answer
then a person feels more comfortable. Also, other experiments showed that the more attracted and

The Deaths And Causes Of The Black Death
The Black Death is a deadly disease that arrived in Europe by sea October 1347. It was 12 Genoese
trading ships that docked at the Sicilian port of a Messina after their long travels through the Black
Sea. When the people who gathered at the dock was met with a horrific accident. Many people one the
crew was dead and the people who were alive was very ill. They weren t able to keep food down
because of the pain they were enduring, also overcoming a fever. But the weird thing was that they
were covered in mysterious black books that had blood and puss coming from them. By the time they
ordered for the ships to be taking away from the docks it was already too late so over the next five
years the Black Death would kill more than 20 million people in Europe and that s almost ⅓ of Europe
s population. Indeed, even before the Death ships maneuvered into port at Messina, numerous
Europeans had heard bits of gossip about an Awesome Epidemic that was cutting a lethal way over the
exchange courses of the Close and Far East. (Ahead of schedule in the 1340s, the illness had struck
China, India, Persia, Syria and Egypt.) Be that as it may, they were hardly prepared for the ghastly
reality of the Dark Demise. In men and ladies alike, the Italian writer Giovanni Boccaccio expressed,
toward the start of the disease, certain swellings, either on the crotch or under the armpits... waxed to

Purpose Statement
The purpose of this qualitative multiple case study is to explore strategies some immigrant small
business owners use to sustain their businesses beyond five years. The targeted population
encompasses three immigrant small business owners in Houston, Texas that have continued their
business for over five years. The implications for positive social change include the potential for
successful immigrant small business owners to encourage immigrants and entrepreneurs to expand or
start small businesses, thereby improving the availability of multicultural goods and services. Small
business owners will likely gain an increased knowledge of strategies for business sustainability
beyond five years, which will encourage immigrants to expand businesses in Houston, Texas and other

Researchers employ the multiple case study design for understanding a phenomenon, by collecting
data through interviews, observations, records and reports, patterns, consistencies, repetitions, and
manifestations (Park Park, 2016). Therefore, the multiple case design is appropriate for this study
because I will be gathering data to explore the phenomenon of immigrant small business
sustainability. Although researchers employ a phenomenological design to explore a phenomenon, it
uses minimal data samples (Stovell, Wearden, Morrison, Hutton, 2016). The phenomenological design
will not be suitable for this study because I will not be using minimal data samples to explore lived
experiences of the business owners. The ethnography design will not be appropriate for this study;
although the ethnography design also draws knowledge from theory to interpret findings, observation
is for an extended period (Morse, 2016), which is unavailable for this

Zora Neale Hurston s Their Eyes Were Watching God Essay
Zora Neale Hurston s Their Eyes Were Watching God
In Their Eyes Were Watching God, Zora Neale Hurston portrays the religion of black people as a form
of identity. Each individual in the black society Hurston has created worships a different God. But all
members of her society find their identities by being able to believe in a God, spiritual or other.
Grandma s worship of Jesus and the Good Lawd, Joe Starks worship of himself, Mrs. Turner s
worship of white characteristics, and Janie s worship of love, all stem from a lack of jurisdiction in the
society they inhabit. All these Gods represent a need for something to believe in and work for: an

There is nothing physical or material to lend confidence and support to her, so she regulates her
conviction in the ethereal. Grandma also uses her fidelity in the divine as an opportunity for procuring
power, because she want[s] to preach a great sermon (pg. 16). Although she never is afforded the
opportunity to preach, her worship of her religion allows her the opportunity to attempt to achieve this
position of power, which seems to be enough for Grandma. Even though she is denied this chance

recognizes that God wanted it that way for a reason, which enables her to move forward with her life.
Just as Grandma s need for power was transferred to her worship of God, Joe Starks need for
dominion is reflected by his worship of himself. Joe always says I God instead of My God, through
which he is subconsciously referring to himself as God. He says that Let colored folks build things too

Differences Of Buddhism And Jainism
Different civilizations have different interpretations of how the world came into existence and these
interpretations normally make up the multitude of religions we have. While most religions share the
same values, such as humility, gratitude, truthfulness, and peacemaking, they do not all agree with the
theological part of religion, such as the creation. There are many different philosophies for this
difference, but it is important to know some of the differences to understand a civilization s culture.
Historical art pieces give a glance of early civilizations beliefs. Asia, including South, Southeast Asia,
and East Asia contained many of the same religions. In Southeast Asia and Japan, Jainism, Hinduism,
and Buddhism were the most common religious affiliations during the Vedic and Maurya periods.
Jainism and Buddhism have similar beliefs about how the world was created. They both don t believe
in a creation story or a Christian God like figure. There is simply no beginning of the world in their
minds. Jainism doesn t believe in Gods; therefore, there isn t anyone responsible for creation. They
have a leader named Vardhamana. They find it more realistic to say that the world has always existed
and has undergone changes as time progresses. However, these changes are due to nature itself and no
higher being (Volatti). Buddhism has similar thoughts about the origin of the world; however
Buddhism does believe in Buddha as a God like figure. Bertrand Russell explains

Everything stood still in the kingdom, and peace was easy to find. Safrax was a magical place and
everyone had a purpose within the city walls. The castle had about one hundred and fifty personnel

Tamora Pierce Analysis
Critiquing Pierce: Best Aspects of Her Work
Tamora Pierce is a fiction author for young adults who has written over twenty eight novels all of
which include her vivid depiction of magic, beautiful fictional lands and an overall message of young
women empowerment. In the first series she ever wrote, called the Song of the Lioness Quartet, the
third book completely exemplifies her overall tone and message, especially in the specific passage I
chose for Writing I Love. Throughout the passage, which is mostly dialogue, Pierce demonstrates
several key conflicts that further develop throughout her novel: that of a young female warrior in an
extremely misogynistic society, and how the protagonist wants to portray herself to the world.

  • 3. 3d Printing And The 3d Printer s New Found Popularity... In 1986 Charles Hull invented the 3D printer (Lewis). Hull s 3D printer has come a long way since then, and in all those years 3D printing has finally shifted its way into the public eye. This bout of fame and recognition for printers though is both a blessing as well as a curse. 3D printers are finally being given the attention and appreciation they deserve; even President Obama saw their potential when he gave a $30 million dollar grant to the National Additive Manufacturing Innovation Institute in Ohio (Lewis). Unfortunately, the 3D printer s new found popularity comes with a price. Like any budding young star the 3D printer is under constant scrutiny and has lost some of the freedom it once had, freedoms like exemption from ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Once one creative medium is given free reign from intellectual property laws, what excuse is there not to make exceptions for all other creative mediums as well? Why should books, photographs, sculptures, digital artwork, etc. all not be liberated from intellectual property laws as well? Another fear, held by both companies and consumers alike, is the possibility of counterfeit products. Individuals would have the power and opportunity to print and sell different products to buyers who believe they are purchasing and paying for the original and genuine product. Those who oppose leaving 3D printers unrestricted also anticipate that it could lead to intellectual property laws being eradicated completely, as the government loses complete control over 3D printing all together. The current difference between all other creative mediums and 3D printers at this time is that all the others are well established and known by the public throughout the world. 3D printing is still so young, it was only in the 1980 s that engineers began to use 3D printers in their work (Barnett). Most of the general public have only now begun to learn about the existence and understand what a 3D printer is. Due to the fact that 3D printing is such a new and up and coming technology, it still has a very long way to go development wise. 3D printers are far from being perfect. In order for 3D printing to continue to expand though it needs to be nourished by both creativity and freedom. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. Technology And Modern Technology The invention of computers and the thrust of populations into the digital age was a vast, strong, and immaculagte leap into the future. This aformentioned leap advanced communication from something trivial to something worldly. With the use of the interweb we can now seize endless forums, messages, emails, information, and worldwide communication on the whole. When communication first began to be conceptualized by humans, at its core, it was just the simple act of conveying a message to another being, using the necessarty means to carry the information with no fear of misunderstanding. The whole point of communicating a message to someone is to mske sure they know what you mean so you can further the collective knowledge. The internet was invented and created a whole new way to communicate to others in a fast, inconsequential, and anonymous way to spread their messages to a significantly larger amount of people. Businesses, schools, and relationships of all different categories are withheld with the sentiment of the internet as a backbone to ensure that the relationshiup stays alive and well. Businesses now check the social media pages of any person that may possibly work at the company because the internet part of our person is now so integral to who we are, it is who we are. Relationships and conversation grows stale, tired, and redundant over these technological engines, and how we really behave face to face with someone is supressed, or sometimes forgotten. ... • 5. Aboriginal Political Movement in Australia Question: Aboriginal and Torres Strait Island peoples have since colonization been politically active. Discuss drawing from readings and research about various forms of political engagement. Since the beginning of European colonization in 1788, Aboriginal people have experienced displacement, have been the targets of genocidal policies and practices, and have had families destroyed through the forcible removal of children. Decades of colonial exploitation and a prolonged systematic attempt to destroy Aboriginal people and culture have led to legislations and policies that are punitive and restrictive towards Aboriginal people. Such legislation reflects the dominant society s perceptions of Aboriginal people and how they ought to be ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Aboriginal people did not have access to amenities, such as cinemas, hotels, cafés and swimming pools, and suffered prejudice and suspicion as well as verbal and sometimes physical abuse (**). In the town of Walgett they decided to picket the Walgett Returned Service League Club (RSL) as a protest against the treatment of Aboriginal people. The media covered the Walgett RSL protest. The central role of the film camera in this campaign demonstrated the growing sophistication of activists who recognized the need to show city dwellers what was happening in country towns. Also captured on tape was the vice president of the RSL who said he would never allow an Aboriginal to become a member (Curthoys, 2011, 12). Such evidence was beamed into the living rooms of Australians with the evening news and exposed an endemic racism. This film footage shocked city viewers and added to the mounting pressure on the government. The legacy of the Freedom Ride political action was a greater awareness of Aboriginal issues in a rural context. Perkins and his fellow students had successfully stirred up debate and sparked discussion around Australia on the state of Aboriginal affairs. Awakening media interest in Aboriginal affairs was positioned in favor of the Black Australian cause, to the severe embarrassment of many white townspeople in rural New South Wales. In the ensuing public debate, urban public knowledge of racial discrimination grew, some ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 7. The Pros And Cons Of Standardized Testing For Students Clammy hands, extreme anxiety, and increased heart rate are all symptoms that occur along side standardized tests. Standardized tests have found their way into the center of American education. These achievement tests are used to determine a student s performance in particular content areas for a certain school year. The student s scores are then cross referenced to the scores of all other students that took the same test (Haladyna). Many students work hard during their educational careers, only to do poorly on a standardized test and lose their chances at being accepted into any decent college. Standardized tests are not beneficial to the student nor to the teacher and are sometimes even harmful. Students should be given standardized tests less frequently and educators should place less emphasis on scores students receive on these tests. Standardized exams favor upper class majority students, decrease the quality of public education, and ineffectively measure a student s achievement. By using standardized tests to measure a student s academic ability and achievement, the education system is giving the upper hand to higher class, racial majority students. Standard exams are racially biased and include questions that favor white students. One study showed that average reading SAT score for white students was 99 points higher than the average reading score of black students on the same test (Jaschik). An explanation for such a drastic difference in scores lies within the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The child, from the moment they are handed into the arms of their new family, will grow up just like any other but their lives will also be forever changed. The cooperation of both the biological and adoptive parents is key to nourishing the child and to maintaining that beneficial relationship. Closed adoption is almost the polar opposite to open adoption. Closed adoption is when the birth parents seal their personal information and have no personal contact with the adoptive parents or the child. The adoptive parents and the child cannot gain access to any personal identifying information unless the biological parents unseal the records or the child meets the age required. This form of adoption is extremely restrictive and often leaves the child wondering about their past and why they were adopted. Most children are left with various questions that cannot be answered due to maintaining the privacy of the birth parents. Although closed adoption can keep the adoptee and the adoptive parents safe, if the birth parents were dangerous in any way, most children have to wait until they are adults to search for information that may still be restricted. Some birth parents eventually unseal the adoption files but request to not be contacted. Closed adoption can have as many restrictions as the birth parents decided. The rise of contraception in the United States, like birth control pill, was controversial, highly debated in courts and law, and once the movement got rolling, it was hard to stop. When a Gallop Poll in 1936 asked if United States citizens favor the birth control movement, 61 percent answered yes. This was a shocking discovery, because until that time contraception seemed like a taboo topic. Today, manufacturing and selling birth control is legal in all 50 states. Family planning services are also now subsidized federal and state governments and nonprofit and private organizations. This nationwide movement enables women to choose when they start families. By allowing women to have the authority to utilize contraception, positive trends have been seen in economic advancement, education attainment and population trends. The Rise of Birth Control The first oral contraception, Envoid, was introduced in 1957. The problem was that state laws prohibited physicians from prescribing the Pill and pharmacists from selling it. Two major shifts in the access to birth control occurred about 50 years ago. In 1965, the trial Griswold versus Connecticut ended restrictions on the sale of contraceptives. Federal government boosted funding for family planning from 1964 to 1973, these changes are still making a positive impact today. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

This allowed gays who were not openly gay to serve in the military, however it still prohibited openly gay people to serve in the military. Over the years, the law has faced its share of challenges, many which ended up in a court room. In 2006, the Supreme Court unanimously upheld Don t Ask, Don t Tell, and the law was also upheld five times in federal courts (Washington Post). These doings have ultimately led up to the most recent actions involving the law. In 2008, President Obama campaigned on the promise that he would fully repeal the law (Washington Post). In 2010, both the Senate and House of Representatives voted to repeal the law, allowing President Obama to sign the repeal. Fairytales typically have underlying messages that can be found written between the lines, generally in terms of the key themes. Snow White discusses the themes of envy and beauty, and shows how humans obsessions can lead to their own downfall as well as the harm of others. It is interesting to note that when the Queen receives Snow White?s heart, she eats it. ?And [the heart] was salted and cooked and the wicked woman ate it up, thinking that there was an end of Snow White? (Grimm and Grimm 168). This is a remnant of a primitive cannibalistic belief that one receives power and characters through what is consumed. By devouring what she is told to be Snow White?s heart, the Queen believes she is capturing Snow White?s beauty and power within herself (Sale, 1979). These instances show that the Queen was driven to act by her envy of Snow White?s beauty, which was said to be more beautiful than her own. As she saw Snow White?s beauty as a threat to her own (and through it, her power), she saw the need to eliminate Snow White completely. In consuming Snow White?s heart not only is she celebrating her triumph over Snow White, but she is reinforcing her own beauty and vitality. Each individual in the black society Hurston has created worships a different God. But all members of her society find their identities by being able to believe in a God, spiritual or other.
