Respect and Integrity in the Military Essay
Respect and integrity, what really do those mean? I could look up those words in the Oxford English
Dictionary or Websters, or Dictionary.com and give a scientific, perscise and exact answer to these
words. And while that tells you what they mean, does that really give their meaning. Well by
Dictionary.com s standards respect is a noun that means to hold in esteem or honor, and to show
regard or consideration for. And Dictionary.com says that integrity means an adherence to moral and
ethical principles; soundness of moral character, honesty, and the state of being whole, entire, or
undiminished as to morality. The Army on the other hand has their own, similar, but specific
definitions for these words, they call values, and are one of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

The Army Value views respect as something that is just between people, yet at the same time it is also
something that is between offices. Each rank is expected to show a certain respect for the ranks above
them. In some units a private is expected respect a specialist, while both show respect for their
sergeants. This has less to do with the specific people then it does with their experience and respect
and of their peers and the people who are situated over them. As soldier we respect the ranks that are
above us because their peers and other higher Sergeants have seen something in them. Some form of
leadership, or the craftsmanship and mastery of their job that they have found some respect for them,
and decided that they deserve to be honored for it. These are people who have seen many soldiers, and
been in the Army long enough to recognize these traits in a person, and other people should respect
that. Not just because of the office they hold but because of their experience that led them to that
office. The Army has kind of got it right, in a way. They view respect as a way that we should act
towards each other and treat each other. But Respect is still so much more then that. You can not
respect just a person, or a rank, or a position, but also someones experience that has led them to where
they are. Its more about feelings

North American Free Trade Agreement
North American Free Trade Agreement
The North American Free Trade Agreement is a regulation between Mexico, Canada, and the United
States which eliminates most tariffs on trade among them. This agreement was implemented January
1, 1994 with the purpose to encourage economic activity among the member countries. At the time, it
established the largest free trade region in the world and included the elimination of tariffs,
agreements on trades in services, and a dispute settlement mechanism for trade disagreements.
NAFTA was highly controversial at the time, with many Canadian and American labor leaders
expressing concern that many manufacturing jobs would be relocated to Mexican factories due to the
low cost of labor. In the 1992 US ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

From 1993 2003 Canada s economy grew by 30.9% and Canada s exports to the United States
expanded by 250%. But Canada did struggle to reduce high unemployment rates 9% throughout most
of the 1990s. Canada did not experience a significant loss in labor jobs during this period, but the
Canadian dollar was at historic low levels in relation to the US dollar, which helped to make Canadian
goods competitive on the world market. NAFTA has clearly been a benefit to Canada s economy and
continues to have a noticeable effect to this very day.
The Mexican Peso Crisis
The Mexican Peso Crisis in December 1994 was a currency crisis that was sparked by the Mexican
government s devaluation of the peso against the U.S. dollar. In 1994, the government started
expansionary fiscal and monetary policy in an attempt to attract more foreign investment dollars into
Mexico. It used an odd form of government debt to attract investment. The government issued short
term debt in the local currency, peso, but promised to repay the debt in US dollars. Basically, the
government was gambling that the peso would remain strong or even strengthen against the US dollar
so the government s debt would be reduced. I think the logic was that the government believed that

Reasons For Self-Driving Cars Are Our Future
3 Reasons Why Google Self Driving Cars are Our Future
Google has dipped their hands into anything that you can imagine, and self driving cars is no
exception. The future of automobiles is autonomous driving, and that is something that everyone
needs to realize. Many companies have started to work with this kind of technology, and Google has
as well.
FIRST REASON
Google is going to make self driving cars the future, and one of the biggest reasons is because they
have already started. A couple of days ago, the company announced that they were working on a self
driving car program, and that it was simulating three million miles of driving every day. Not only this
but Google also stated that ever since 2009, there 55 self driving cars have driven

Symptoms Of Postoperative Cognitive Decline
The brain is often exposed to various disturbance during the perioperative period in all age groups.
Neurobehavioral disturbances during the perioperative period may manifest as: Emergence delirium
postoperative delirium postoperative cognitive decline.
Delirium is defined as a disturbed state of mind which is accompanied by confusion, restlessness,
illusions, incoherence sometimes hallucinations.
There are many causesof delirium:
a. Due to medical condition
b. Due to Substance abuse
c. Intoxication
d. Delirium due to non specified reasons
Emergence delirium occurs on emergence from anesthesia. There is no lucid interval. Emergence
delirium usually lasts for less than 30 minutes. Emergence agitation or delirium is mostly seen in the
pediatric age group, is mostly associated with the administration of general anesthesia and usually
resolves without any cosequences[1]. Emergence delirium in the pediatric age group is thought to be
in someway associated with separation anxiety therefore premedication to prevent separation anxiety
might help in preventing it.[2]
Postoperative cognitive decline (POCD) refers to a more fine change in cognition noted during
assessment of attention memory on neuropsychological testing. It is temporary impairment in
cognition associated with surgery. The diagnosis is usually made by a preoperative testing of the
cognitive functions (memory, learning, attention, abstract thinking) and then assessing the degree of
impairment in these

The Importance Of Health And Physical Education
Health and Physical Education is a mandatory learning area in the school curriculum which provides
opportunities for all students to live healthy and active lifestyles. Schools are recognised as primary
settings for developing health related knowledge and skills. Health and physical education supports
students to enhance their own and others health. HPE is a learning area of Australian curriculum
through which students can make healthier choices. It focuses explicitly on developing movement
skills and encourage students to participate in range of physical activities. Therefore, Health and
Physical Education is a vital learning area in the school curriculum.
Health and Physical Education provides learning opportunities for students to make meaning of and
apply the knowledge and skills related to health and movement. They learn movement skills through
physical education. These skills enable them to develop personal, interpersonal, behavioural, cognitive
and social skills. Movement skills also encourage students for ongoing participation across their
lifespan which leads to positive health outcomes (Australian Curriculum Assessment and Reporting
Authority, 2012). According to UNESCO (1999), learning to move and enjoying the freedom of
movement is a human right (as cited in ACARA, 2012). HPE promotes movement skills which are
important part of daily life to enhance active living. The content of curriculum focuses on developing
knowledge and understanding about how body moves

Comparing Margaret Atwood s The Handmaid Offred And The Talk
Disempowerment leads to a loss of individual identity, the absolute power of leadership forcing
citizens quiet, out of fear. A lowly Handmaid Offred, narrates Margaret Atwood s The Handmaid s
Tale giving us a personal insight into her thoughts and memories, how total control has impacted on
individuals through a unique perspective on the new society: from point of view of the oppressed.
Similarly, Michael D Antuono s The Talk displays the corruption in leadership, subsequently creating
a society where people fear the enforcers of law, where African American parents have to tell their
children they are not safe. Oppression of individual power leads to its irresponsible use when granted,
as individual identity is lost and must be regained.

Asian Carp Case Study
The threat of the Asian Carp entering Lake Michigan s waterways has now become a serious issue.
The main access into Lake Michigan for the Asian Carp would be through the Chicago Sanitary and
Ship Canals which connects to the Mississippi River. These natural waterways have also been
connected to man made rivers to allow easier access to the lake for trading and transporting goods.
Though along the river there are a couple of dams, this does not stop the Asian Carp, but merely slows
the Carps movement. Their solution for this problem was to build an electrified barrier to keep the
Asian Carp out of the Lake. In December of 2009 the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, U.S.

Osteopathy Research Paper
The impact that a badly sleeping baby has on its parents is, in one word, draining. Tired parents who
try to continue to function normally while go about their daily tasks often resemble cast members
from the Walking Dead zombie television show. There are a number of reasons why your baby may
not be sleeping well. If you have ruled out medical issues with your paediatrician, an osteopath who is
experienced in cranial manipulation should be next on your list to investigate. While putting your
baby s head in a stranger s hands may immediately raise concern, there is a good reason why they can
help your baby sleep better at night. What Is Osteopathy? Osteopathy is the branch of medicine that
deals with your musculoskeletal framework. This includes the spine, your muscles and all of the little
joints between your bones. The goal of an osteopath is to treat aches and pains that resonate from your

What Does Cranial Osteopathy Have To Do With Babies? Childbirth is a vigorous process for both
mother and child, and sometimes during childbirth a baby s skull or spine can be pushed slightly out
of alignment during the birthing process. This bad alignment can lead to breathing problems, body
pain, and what appears to be a cranky child who has issues sleeping. The lack of sleeping, however,
can instead be attributed to the fact your child is hurting while they are trying to sleep, and no matter
how they try, they cannot get comfortable. Because a baby s skull and bones remain soft during the
months following birth, an osteopath can use manipulation techniques to realign the skull bones or the
spine to their correct position. This relieves the pain your baby is feeling, and that, in turn, leads to
more sleep time because they are now comfortable when lying

The Importance Od Ethics And Social Responsibility
Ethics and social responsibility are very important irrespective of the community in which you
conduct business in. All stakeholder groups are benefited from the use of ethical behavior. For one,
stock holders benefit as the financial numbers used to evaluate and engage in business activities are
legitimate. These numbers will therefore provide a solid foundation in which to evaluate the merits of
a particular activity such as a merger, acquisition, dividend, stock buy back and so forth. Consumers
benefit as they are not mislead in regards to purchasing decisions. These builds trust as the brand will
become synonymous with ethics further expanding the market share of the company. This will then
benefit the shareholders even further as more consumers purchase products from this trusted company.
The community benefits as the company contributes to the community through the profits garnered
from sales (Business, 2011). As such, all stakeholder groups benefit and flourish. Social responsibility
is no different in this regard. Companies, especially during tough economic circumstances want to
demonstrate their commitment to the communities in which they operate. Usually, these commitments
translate into high sales figures and better customer loyalty. Social responsibility also engages
associates on a personal level as they can volunteer and contribute to causes pertinent to their beliefs.
These increases employee satisfaction which ultimately helps improve productivity.

Samurai Male Prostitutes
Male prostitutes, or kagema, helped relieve the sexual tension built up within the samurai. The
kagame looked theatrical performers who normally took part in kabuki plays due to their heavy use of
makeup and feminine appearance. There are cases of Noh performers resorting to prostitution after a
show in order to please an important person. The substantial difference between the samurai s
relationship with a chigo and a kagema is that the kagema system was based on gender differentiation
as the beauty of the kagema, namely, was compared to that of a courtesan: it trespassed on
heterosexual ground. (Furukawa Makoto 3) Even though it crossed into heterosexual territory, kagema
were not actively sought out and prosecuted for their acts until ... Show more content on

Kills with bow and arrows was much more valued than courtly arts such as composing waka poems
and playing music. (Sachi Schmidt Hori 90) Hypermasculinity was a major issue before the creation
of Bushido as every man was expected to fit a certain standard of physical strength and kill potential.
In the land of Yamato, the stronger the samurai was and the more threatening he looked, the more
likely he would be hired. This is also true for the literature produced during the early period of Japan.
Authors exaggerated the image of a samurai in this time period to make them seem more honorable
and masculine. In reality, they were farmers, artisans, and common folk. It was not until after the
Genpei war that samurai began to become a integral part of society. At first they were hired
mercenaries, then a hired army, and then the warriors made known by writers standards, such as seen
in the Tale of the Heike. With homosexuality, samurai were always the dominant in the relationship.
Even though homosexuality was not looked down upon, if a samurai submits himself to a person who
is more feminine than him, then he is demoralizing and shaming his samurai

The Ethics Of The Law Essay
When it comes to large sums of money, it is not uncommon for the spender to feel they have been
ripped off or become over protected. The practice of law is no exception to this phenomenon, and
crocked lawyers and paralegals have negatively contributed to the notion. On several occasions law
professionals have taken client money for personal use, acting against the law and rules of
professional conduct. Although lawyers and paralegals have their own individual rules and guidelines
to abide by, they follow the same professional structure of proper conduct. The rules of conduct for
paralegals is governed by the Law Society of Upper Canada and is the governing body responsible for
reports of misconduct. Further investigations will lay out the proper procedures and tasks that must be
completed when a paralegal encounters an accusations of misconduct, specifically when a client
accuses a paralegal of misappropriating money from the clients trust fund. When it comes to possible
options it is important to remember that by proactively sending a report of the circumstance to the
Law Society of Upper Canada with a detailed list of events, bookkeeping and accounts billed to the
client will help your case prior to the client reporting you to the Law Society. Should a paralegal
choose to ignore the threat of the client, in hopes that the client will not follow through with higher
involvement, the paralegal will then face an audit by the Law Society. If the Law Society is apprised

Morality And Virtue In The Shawshank Redemption
In John Milton s Paradise Lost (1667) the archangel Michael predicts that the son of God shall
raise/From the conflagrant mass, purg d and refin d,/New Heav ns, new Earth, Ages of endless
date/Founded in righteousness and peace and love/To bring forth fruits Joy and eternal Bliss (Milton
247). In this quote, the archangel foretells of Jesus Christ and his overarching goodness and harmony,
all of which he will share through his sacrifice and ultimate rebirth, bringing peace and light from his
miracles and martyrdom. These characteristics of promulgating kindness and virtue manifest in the
movie The Shawshank Redemption, through the enigmatic protagonist, Andy, who positively
influences those around him and manages to commit his own, modernized, forms of thaumaturgy.
Andy proves himself as a Christ figure through his kind, philanthropic nature that draws others to his
character, making acolytes of ordinary men. For example, Andy helps to build a library at the prison, a
declared impossible task or a miracle attempting to encourage those around him to learn and study
because of the persistency of his letters. The scene in which the construction work begins details an
essential aspect to Andy s victory in spreading knowledge, the director explaining it as tracking the
construction. Walls have been knocked down. Men are painting, plastering, hammering. Lots of
shelves going up. Red is head carpenter. We find him discussing plans with Andy. Throughout the
scene the director utilizes humor to highlight the illiteracy of the inmates, further sanctifying Andy s
goodness in teaching them at such an uneducated level. At least for Andy, his people will not suffer
from lack of knowledge (Hosea 4:6). Furthermore, foreshadowing manifests in one of the books that
inmate Haywood mentions, The Count of Monte Cristo, by Alexandre Dumas, as pointed out by Andy,
the protagonist in the novel conducts a prison break, all while the eye level shots help the audience
become more comfortable with the characters, shaping them into more realistic people and allowing a
more clear interaction between each of the characters.
Not only does Andy create disciples of the inmates, but he also creates followers from the antagonistic

Amelia Earhart Speech
Have you ever been daring enough to think outside the box or do something out of the ordinary?
Maybe you have, or maybe you ve been too scared to do it. Someone who wasn t afraid was Amelia
Earhart. She did something no one else had done or attempted to do before. Amelia Earhart, daring
and outgoing from the start of her life, achieved many things, which is why she should be remembered
because, indeed, flying is what ended her life.
Amelia Earhart was born on July 24, 1898, in Atchison, Kansas. Around 1907, her whole family
moved to Des Moines, Iowa. Amelia was a full out tomboy during her whole childhood. She once slid
a sled off a barn roof, calling it a roller coaster. She also played all the sports that, normally, only boys
played like football and basketball. During the summer of 1907, Amelia s dad, Edwin, took her and
her sister, Muriel, to the Des Moines State Fair. Edwin was really attracted to the model airplane at the
fair. On the other hand, Muriel and Amelia, surprisingly, were unamused. They just thought the plane
was boring. (Lardner, 205 207).
In 1917, Amelia and her mother took a trip to Toronto, Canada, even though, there was a war
happening. Amelia saw wounded soldiers on her left and right. She knew she had to help in some way.
So, she stayed in Toronto and became a nurse s aid. This began her path down the medical and nursing
road. After the war, Amelia started premedical nursing school in New York. (Lardner, 207).
Amelia s love for planes started to

The Aspects of Museums and Utopian Study in Calvino s Invisible Cities
In Calvino s novel Invisible Cities, the traveler Marco Polo tells Kublai Khan fiction of the various
cities of his empire, which the Khan himself will never visit. In this paper I will describe such model
from Calvino s novel to explore those aspects of museum experience that are almost invisible to
people. Sketching on critical research and state that, museum is no single but a multiplicity of deeply
personal and largely invisible utopian spaces. At the end of Invisible Cities, Polo talks of the infernal
city, the exact opposite of utopia. Escaping this city is a matter of giving space to things that are not of

What sets it aside from most literature is the element of fantasy and the use of the above
aforementioned values. Reality is understood in varying degrees as part of everyday life. The fantasy,
visionary or unexpected is utopian because there is no one to answer to the validity, or possibility of
its existence. These cities are quickly established as impossible cities in reader s minds. With
discussions and consideration of the five values readers slowly move into a place of imagination. For
some readers the cities present an unusual mirror that reflects their own society and existence. For
other readers that mirror is more of a crystal ball that helps define a possible future. We may build a
design philosophy on these literary concepts because they are couched in terms of modes of
communication and communication is usually what the graphic designer is trying to achieve (Jackob

Long Grove Company s Mission Essay
Long Grove Confectionery Company founded by John and Heidi Mangel started the company as a
retail business in 1975. Locating in Long Grove, IL, the original Long Grove Confectionery was a
retail shop and candy kitchen that was housed in a nostalgic replica of a red schoolhouse. After a
successful ten years, Long Grove Confectionery had outgrown a small kitchen and moved its
production to a 25,000 square feet facility in Buffalo Grove, IL. Shortly after that transition, Long
Grove Confectionary added another 60,000 square feet which increased its total size to 85,000 square
feet in order to meet the rising demand from its retail and wholesale customers. In June of 2013, Long
Grove Confectionery Company was sold to Craig Leva; the president and owner of a Chicago based

Battle Of Trenton Summary
On December 16th, 1776, George Washington crossed the Delaware River and attacked the Hessian
troops located in Trenton, New Jersey. It started when a Philadelphian, General Thomas Mifflin,
rallied the militia because they were shamed by The American Crisis. By Christmas, Washington still
barely had 6,000 troops fit for duty, knowing that he started getting reinforcements after the rally.
Timing was important because if he waited, the enlistments would expire and the Delaware River
would freeze. Finally, on Christmas night of 1776, the layer of ice covering the Delaware river
cracked, allowing Washington and his troops to cross the river. This included 2,400 veteran troops and
18 cannons into Durham Boats. Many troops had to walk in the freezing cold grounds with their bare
feet, leaving bloody footprints all around. Meanwhile, General James Ewing commanded 1,000 other
troops nine miles above Trenton to block any retreating Hessians occupying Trenton. Originally,
Colonel John Cadwalader was planned to cross the Delaware River, but he unfortunately never made
it across through the bitter, cold water. Washington s plan was to depart at midnight, but due to the
weather, it was delayed to 3 in the morning of the 26th. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

A Letter Written By The Apostle Paul
Ephesians is a letter written by the Apostle Paul during his imprisonment in Rome. This is the same
Paul who had previously persecuted the church, under the name Saul. Paul is not writing to a

of Ephesus. His purpose was to encourage the faithful on The spiritual privileges of the Church, and
The spiritual responsibilities of the Church. Paul was addressing three issues facing these growing
church communities. 1) New Gentile converts were holding on to their old beliefs; 2) they had a need
to cultivate a new lifestyle consistent with their salvation; and 3) the growing tension between Gentile

Christ himself gave...to equip his people for works of service, so that the body of Christ may be built
up. You may be wondering why I did not mention the list of individuals mentioned earlier. The reason
is this passage carries much debate and I want to address it before we move forward. There are two
interpretations on this passage. The first interpretation uses the words And He gave some as apostles,
and some as prophets, and some as evangelist, and some as pastors and teachers (NASB). This
interpretation develops the idea that there are particular roles or offices that Christ appoints individuals
into. Therefore, some are gifted as apostles or prophets ect. The second interpretation is that Christ
gave all these individuals for the building of his body. This problem exist because of grammer. Both
the word some and the can modify the nouns apostles, prophets ect. Although both interpretations
possess validity, based on context the best interpretation of the passage is the apostles, the prophets
etc. I know I have taken a long time to make this point but bare with me. The reason this detail
matters, is that if we use the first interpretation, then only a few believers are given these specific roles
of ministry. The second interpretation develops the idea that Christ gives all believers the ability to
exercise the various roles. In order, to equip his people for the building of his body. In addition,

Describe The Relationship Between Polonius And Ophelia
As a father, Polonius immediately cautions Ophelia from Hamlet s affections. His lecture lasts a
lengthy 20 lines, displaying his passion in keeping Ophelia away from Hamlet. Although the speech is
full of criticism, his fatherly concern is clear in his warnings. In this lecture, Polonius uses a special
image in order to illustrate his perspective and fear for Ophelia s relationship with Hamlet: These
blazes, daughter, Giving more light than heat, extinct in both Even in their promise as it a making, You
must not take for fire. (I.iii.126 129) Polonius specifically chooses blazes as the image to bring
attention to its short intensity. Compared to normal fire, blazes are large and fierce which means that
people are at greater risks of getting hurt. Also, due to the bright intensity, they also die out quicker.
This suggests that Polonius believes Hamlet s current passion will end quickly and Ophelia would be
hurt as a result. Instead of being optimistic, Polonius immediately takes a ... Show more content on

Although Ophelia tries to persuade her father of the strength of Hamlet s love by mentioning he said
to her almost all the holy vows of heaven, Polonius rejects the validity of them (I.iii.123). Vows have a
connotation of solemn and unbreakable which enforces the heavy duty that comes from uplifting
them. Religion is also a crucial part of people s lives, further increasing the seriousness of the vows.
With this, the vows Hamlet promises Ophelia seem everlasting. However, Ophelia states that he only
says almost all which means that the important vow, marriage, is left out. Therefore, Polonis labels the
sacred vows that Hamlet tells Ophelia as an insincere promise. Since Ophelia s relationship with
Hamlet is not cemented as official or marriage, Polonius views their relationship as ephemeral and
therefore strongly encourages her to limit communications with

Examples Of Workplace Discrimination
1. How do I define discrimination in my own words and discrimination prevention in my own words?
Discrimination is a long word, difficult pronunciation, tough to spell; yet, usage is exceedingly
common. Righteous teaching discrimination is simple to define. Unfair, unjust, underserved treatment
upon one is my views of discrimination. Discrimination is done intentionally. One cannot state unfair
treatment upon an induvial was mistaken.
Discrimination is highly found in the workplace. Workplace discrimination is instituted mainly by
employers; however, it transpires among employees. A few examples of workplace discrimination is

Control Mechanisms Paper
Control Mechanisms paper
RUNNING HEAD: Control Mechanism Paper
In order to understand control mechanisms, it is important to understand what control means in the
management world. Control refers to the workings of individuals being directed to achieve
organizational goals. This can be the way that managers keep their employees on track and focused
toward meeting their goals. The managers are controlling the employees. In order to meet the
organizational goals, there are certain control mechanisms that are used. In Wal Mart, four examples
of control mechanisms used include finance control, distribution control, audits, and performance
reviews. Finance control refers to the way that Wal Mart regulates their finances. This refers to ...

This can be the most difficult part because you want your customers to be happy. Getting a poor
review is something that is inevitable, and should be handled as soon as possible because the whole
purpose of the review was to keep the company abreast of all things about the company. You should
regard your review as a learning experience, with this review you should be able to take away
valuable information that can hopefully help the company move forward Wal Mart distribution control
is the key to this company success. Wal Mart wants to take over the United States services from
suppliers in an attempt to reduce the cost of hauling supplies (Burit 2010). This is a huge step in the
right direction for this company because by Wal Mart doing this, they have an advantage over the
other competitors. Wal Mart wants to cut the time of delivery in half, by having more fleets on the
road, and by filling them to capacity, and dropping off directly to the distribution centers and stores.
The down side to the distribution control is Wal Mart will see an increase in transportation costs. The
control mechanisms are made up of the four functions of management and this is considered the
focused approach of Wal Mart. The four functions of management are: planning and organizing,
leading and controlling. These four functions play a crucial role in monitoring to ensure compliance
and providing control practices.

Southwest A Success Story Of Organizational Change
Southwest a Success Story in Organizational Change
Why is it that when organizations announce upcoming changes to their employees they are rarely
excited about it? You do not see them jovially discussing what is going to happen next, and/or how
these changes are going to make their organization better. No, none of this is happening. Most of them
are worried and wondering how these changes will affect them, and what their roles are going to be.
This mindset makes organizational change difficult. Society in general just does not like change, nor
are they comfortable with it.
Therefore, when an organization can successfully implement change, people notice and researchers
want to study them. They do this so they can formulate a change theory and teach it to other
organizations that are experiencing the same situation(s). One company that has continually evolved,
made changes, and has been successful at it is Southwest Airlines. How have Southwest Airlines been
so successful, what was their core strategy, and what part has their differentiation strategy played in
their success?
Air Southwest was incorporated on March 15, 1967 (1966 to 1971, 2016), at a time when price
competition from interstate competitors was ferocious (Heskett Sasser, 2013, p. 3). However, Rollin
King one of Southwest original founders had an idea that would shake things up. While having a

Reflection Of College Writing
Over the course of this past semester, my ability to write has improved tremendously. Prior to
undertaking this course, my expertise in writing was not as fine tuned as it should have been. I had
never previously been enrolled in a class specifically tailored to writing which was quite clear. Upon
reading my past works, it becomes apparent that my writing style consisted of fluff, small words, and
inconsistently structured sentences. These problems have, for the most part, been remedied with the
coursework I have tackled in College Writing. Rather than long, drawn out papers that take an eternity
to reach the primary point, my recent work is much nicer in terms of composition and grammar. I

Previously in the year, it was typical for me just write what is on my mind at the time and later go
back and organize it. This paper is a stupendous presentation of that obsolete format. It was common
for me to leap from one paragraph to another without soundly blending my ideas into the narrative.
Despite this, however, many outstanding developments appeared in this essay. This was the essay that
helped me further develop my ability to write sensory details, which immediately shows itself in the
introduction: Lights blare down from above. To my left, I can see the crowd cheering as the previous
band charges off the field, and we prepare our grand entrance ( 1). I also highlighted the negative
aspects of the band, such as leadership problems: Aside from inexperienced and uncaring managers,
some people are just wholly opposed to taking orders from their peers. This causes an avalanche of
tension between them and their section. Arguments will typically break out as to who is right and who
is wrong especially during marching season ( 3). Each paragraph, despite flowing strangely, outlined a
specific aspect of the band in increasingly detailed methods. One section describes the methods band
members use to communicate with one another while another tells of its hierarchy. Overall, this paper,
despite its shortcomings, laid the base for which I would later improve upon in following essays. The
second essay was a different beast to tackle. Our literacy narrative was

Heart Rate And Its Effect On The Human Body
Heart Rate as it Relates to Age and Sex
Problem:
The heart is the most important muscle in the human body. It is located in the circulatory system and it
pumps blood along with other nutrients all through the body, which in turn keeps us alive. But, what is
actually happening when it beats? Simultaneously, the heart is receiving deoxygenated blood and
returning oxygenated blood to the body. It is made up of four chambers called the left and right atria,
located on top, and the left and right ventricles, located on the bottom. The right atrium fills with
blood from the veins and then contracts to send the blood to the right ventricle, which then sends
oxygen rich blood to the lungs through arteries. At the same time, the left atrium fills with blood from
the veins and then contracts sending blood to the left ventricle, which then sends blood to the rest of
the body through arteries (Silverthorn). A pulse happens every time the heart contracts. Pulse in
counted by the number of times an artery expands and contracts as a result of the heart beating. It is
measured in number of beats per minute and is commonly written as bpm. There are seven arteries in
the body used to measure pulse, here are a few: the radial artery, located on the thumb side of the
wrist; the brachial artery, located on the inside of the arm at the elbow; and the carotid artery, located
on the side of the neck (Silverthorn). The purpose of this experiment is to determine whether age

Essay on Communicating Leadership
Leadership, Traditional versus Transformational
What should a leader look like? Important leaders, such as presidents and prime ministers, work hard
communicate an impression of confidence and power. A leader, they assume, should look like a leader,
and many of them hire an image specialist to learn how. Wherever they go, press agents, bodyguards,
loyal assistants, and throngs of eager admirers follow in their wake. In the Bible, Matthew depicts
Jesus as a true leader, a king in fact, however one who broke stereotypes. Jesus had undeniable power
and he was not concerned about a powerful image. The Word of Matthew 13:54 55 tells us, Where did

There are many definitions and interpretations of traditional or transformational communicating
leadership. The text book definition for traditional viewpoint of management offers this, The oldest
and perhaps most widely accepted view of management is the traditional viewpoint. It is split into
three main branches: bureaucratic management, scientific management, and administrative
management (Hellriegel, 2005). Studies have been made on leadership communication and
management styles since the Civil War. With many decades of research it has evolved over time to
specific categories. Traditional is still viewed today because of its long term use. God s relationship

authority, his fear of the people s distrust, his speech difficulties, and sheer cowardice. Moses

Brazil, mainly by descendants of African slaves, and it is characterized by the use of primarily kicks,

A story is usually as good as the characters that you encounter while reading. The way a writer reveals
a character is called characterization. One form of characterization is direct characterization. Direct
characterization is when the author tells you directly what characteristics the character has. An
example of this is Bob is smart, brave and honest, . Another form of characterization is indirect
characterization. This is when the author shows the character in action and lets the reader decide what
kinds of people we are meeting. The open Window , by Saki, is a great example of characterization as
the author develops the characters of Nuttel and Vera indirectly through their speech, how they look,

Tax Reform In America
Taxes are essential for they enable the economy to function more properly. Taxes are useful for
funding programs such as, public transportation, education, and health care services, however,
taxation on goods and other resources can negatively affect individuals whose socioeconomic status is
low. In my opinion, taxation has different effects on different areas of our economy, taxes do affect
American citizens as well as the economic policy by raising or lowering the amount of income the
government receives.
It is evident that a tax reform is necessary. The economic growth has been inactive for quite a few
years now, the workforce association has been down, wages are not moving and the U.S. tax laws are
more and more out of step. I think we need a tax reform because it is hurting American manufacturing.
America has great manufacturing workers and companies. That is why products that say Made in

Case Study: Jules Ferry
1. According to Ferry, what recent developments in world trade have made it urgent for France to have
colonies?
As an imperialist, Jules Ferry felt that France should be exploring and taking over new nations. He
claimed colonial expansion was a great need that had become extremely urgent by the people and
industrialized population of Europe (Kleinman, 1897). He stated that other countries, United States
and Germany, were exporting so much more than France was. Jules Ferry compiled a report of
statistics with his perspective of that great need for colonial expansion (Kleinman, 1897). This report

If not acted on or taken precautions against, North American goods will overcome the South American
market that belonged to France first. All of this is connected to colonial policy.
2. What arguments against imperialism have been raised by Ferry s critics? How does he counter
them?
Jules Ferry believed it was the job of superior races to civilize the lesser races (Kleinman, 1897). He
claims when the Spanish and Explorers introduced slavery to Central America it was a
misunderstanding and their job as a superior race was not accomplished (Kleinman, 1897). That
statement made it seem like he was trying to justify slavery but he circumvented this by repeating that
it was the rights of the superior races to control the inferior ones. But, in our time, I maintain that
European nations acquit themselves with generosity and with sincerity of this superior civilizing duty
(Kleinman, 1897, para. 4) .
3. What non economic arguments does Ferry offer in favor of imperialism?
The non economic arguments presented by Ferry in favor of imperialism was; the need for shelters,
places of supply for markets to sell France s goods and ports for defense and provisioning for boats to
have a safe harbor. The ports for boats were needed because ships were limited on the supplies they
could carry, like coal, which is paramount to keep moving. A warship, however perfect its design,

Fermented beverages have played a part in every civilization. The evolution of fermentation by human
hands has been a diverse one. From the first fermented beverage, mead, found in ancient Greek,
Egyptian, and Sumerian records to today s micro brewed barley based ales, fermented beverages have
seen tremendous growth. Today, micro craft breweries are displacing the competition from big

type of ingredients to buy, what ratios to use, duration of fermentations, whether to perform a
secondary fermentation; all my hard work bore fruit of a recipe that was very enjoyable. It had an
aroma of raspberries, a slight hint of raspberries amidst the wheat and a slight bitter note. When I held
a tasting of my beer, all the participants enjoyed my creation and had some constructive criticism on
how I can improve the recipe. Some asked if I would be brewing more batches and they would like to

Social Hierarchy In The Middle Ages
Middling Problems
Kings are the ones who lead and conquer. Lords are the ones who rule and sit barking orders to the
lower classes. Knights are the ones who follow their code of honor, chivalry at its finest. Peasants are
the ones who work until their bodies give out just to provide for their family. These are words that
depicted the social hierarchy during the Middle Ages or rather, the Dark Ages. An age where not
everyone is given the chance to elevate to a new status, where the oppressed stays oppressed while the
aristocrats sits in their fine houses and live lavishly. But...only the men get to exercise their power, as
the women during this period lay dormant, sitting in their chairs as if they were just glorified display
pieces showcased by their husbands for all to see. It s even worse if they were peasants, as they were
only expected to give childbirth and care for the family while working out in the fields.
Meanwhile, in the current period, everyone is given a chance to increase their standing in life. Blood
inheritance holds little to no meaning anymore, only skill and talent will let you prosper in life. This

Essay about The Heated Debate Concerning Stem Cell Research
Inside an embryo there are dozens of stem cells. They are basically empty shells, but the special thing
about them is that they are pluripotent, meaning that they can develop in to any cell or organ in human
body. That makes stem cell research a gigantic part of today s medical research. With enough research,
stem cells can be a big help to the human kind. Their extraordinary abilities could help scientists
return memory to Alzheimer s patients, or grow a man s limb that had to be amputated due to some
tragedy. But, they also have some flaws. As the name suggests, Embryonic stem cells can only be

Even though embryonic stem cells can be a great use to human kind, the fact is that this help comes at
a terrible price. Embryonic stem cells can only be found in blastocyst of an embryo. There are those
who believe that life begins at conception, so the blastocyst is a human life and to destroy it is
unacceptable. Stem Cells can also be found in the umbilical cord of a baby just born. According to DO
NO HARM, the coalition of Americans for research ethics, these stem cells are currently the only ones
being used to treat humans, and have had positive results. Thanks to these cells, a number of drugs
have been successfully tested and are now available. If less money is spent on the research of
embryonic stem cells, the adult stem cell research could provide even greater advances. Another
reason for abandoning this research is that all the promises made by scientists have not been proven.

are like a coin; you cannot have one side without the other. Just as the sides of a coin share the same
coin, these stories share a similar plot, a setting, and tell of the same events. The sides of a coin also
have differences as do Beowulf and Grendel. In the case of these two tales this difference is in their
respective philosophical views. Beowulf portrays the philosophical views of life that many people still

Descriptive Speech About Baseball Game
Knock, knock, knock , the thunderous strikes upon the door wake us up in a hurry. Our coach appears

basepaths, engulfing the dazzling white bases. The smell of the fresh open air and ascending scent of
morning dew. The sun beams its powerful rays upon the field and illuminates the ball park. Our eyes

keep my pride under in victory, keep a sound soul, a clean mind, and a healthy body . The code of
sportsmanship that we live by for the duration we are with the American legion. After the first pitch is

The Major Classical Theorists Influenced The Economics Of...
Three major classical theorists have attempted to interpret why societies change. They are Adam
Smith, Max Weber, and Karl Marx (Franks, 35). These three have inspired a lot of people down the
years. Adam Smith is known as the theoretical father of modern economics. In 1776, Smith argued
that the invisible hand of the market would change the economics of a nation and it would make the
nation better. In his invisible hand theory, he states that if one person strived to achieve success, then
the person would simultaneously benefit people around him. The prices and quality will be determined

The history of Marxism is controversial, and the ideas have influenced a lot of men and women to
address social issues. Karl Marx stated that the occurrence of capitalism brought humanity a necessary
step closer to socialism and the conquest of human inequality (Frank, 30). This is an inevitable part of
the development of human society.
According to scholar Mario Barrera, traditional Marxists thinks that a class is a group of people who
have a similar relationship in things that they use in their daily lives, such as food, houses, and
appliances (Franks, 30). Also, Marxists address that each society has its own particular class structure.
In addition, Marxists have defined three primary classes that currently exist in a capitalist social
system, and they can be found in the United States. The first group of classes consists of capitalists,
people who own and control an enormous proportion of productive property in the United States.
Having productive property means being able to produce products, such as producing products that
people demand. In this case, capitalists are wealthy because they hold an overwhelming amount of
productive property.
The second group of classes consists of workers, people who have cars, computers. cell phones, and
homes, but they own little of productive property. The reason is that most of their income comes from
their wages, salaries, and tips. They do not own company themselves. The third group of classes

Pros And Cons Of Net Neucy
Net neutrality is the basis in which all internet providers must treat data on the Internet equally and not
charge differently based on what device , website, application you use, or content you decide to view.
The recent vote in the U.S. to repeal net neutrality s guidelines is unjust because it violates 1st

The Great Moai Statues Of Easter Island
Similarities and differences are what make things so interesting. Would you be happy if everyone was
the same. Every looked the same, and liked the same things and hated the same things. No you wouldn
t because you would want to be you and no one can tell you what you want to be or what you don t
want to be. Even the buildings you make would be the same from a normal house to a normal office
building. The Panama Canal was one of the most useful canals ever built and they were made to for
one reason and that was to transport goods. This was somethings everyone needed to solve at that
time(1900s). The great Moai statues of Easter Island are also great structures and are really
tremendous to the eye. These buildings and canals were made to one purpose they had to do
somethings and that something was to make things easier for the people. Some similarities they had
were that they both took a long time and sacrifice to build. A difference they had was that they were
built for different purposes and they had their own different struggles.
Predominantly, The Panama Canal was one of the greatest structures built by mankind. The Moai as
well were something to be fascinated by because they were beautiful creations made by us. The one
thing they both have in common was that they both took a long time to build. The Moai took
approximately about 10 15 years to build and that was with the help of mana which was part of the
belief and if that wouldn t of existed it probably

  • 2. Respect and Integrity in the Military Essay Respect and integrity, what really do those mean? I could look up those words in the Oxford English Dictionary or Websters, or Dictionary.com and give a scientific, perscise and exact answer to these words. And while that tells you what they mean, does that really give their meaning. Well by Dictionary.com s standards respect is a noun that means to hold in esteem or honor, and to show regard or consideration for. And Dictionary.com says that integrity means an adherence to moral and ethical principles; soundness of moral character, honesty, and the state of being whole, entire, or undiminished as to morality. The Army on the other hand has their own, similar, but specific definitions for these words, they call values, and are one of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The Army Value views respect as something that is just between people, yet at the same time it is also something that is between offices. Each rank is expected to show a certain respect for the ranks above them. In some units a private is expected respect a specialist, while both show respect for their sergeants. This has less to do with the specific people then it does with their experience and respect and of their peers and the people who are situated over them. As soldier we respect the ranks that are above us because their peers and other higher Sergeants have seen something in them. Some form of leadership, or the craftsmanship and mastery of their job that they have found some respect for them, and decided that they deserve to be honored for it. These are people who have seen many soldiers, and been in the Army long enough to recognize these traits in a person, and other people should respect that. Not just because of the office they hold but because of their experience that led them to that office. The Army has kind of got it right, in a way. They view respect as a way that we should act towards each other and treat each other. But Respect is still so much more then that. You can not respect just a person, or a rank, or a position, but also someones experience that has led them to where they are. Its more about feelings ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

North American Free Trade Agreement North American Free Trade Agreement The North American Free Trade Agreement is a regulation between Mexico, Canada, and the United States which eliminates most tariffs on trade among them. This agreement was implemented January 1, 1994 with the purpose to encourage economic activity among the member countries. At the time, it established the largest free trade region in the world and included the elimination of tariffs, agreements on trades in services, and a dispute settlement mechanism for trade disagreements. NAFTA was highly controversial at the time, with many Canadian and American labor leaders expressing concern that many manufacturing jobs would be relocated to Mexican factories due to the low cost of labor. In the 1992 US ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Today NAFTA is a $19 trillion market with about 470 million consumers. In 1993 the average GDP growth rate for Canada was 2.6% and in 1994 it was 4.6%, a 2% increase! From 1993 2003 Canada s economy grew by 30.9% and Canada s exports to the United States expanded by 250%. But Canada did struggle to reduce high unemployment rates 9% throughout most of the 1990s. Canada did not experience a significant loss in labor jobs during this period, but the Canadian dollar was at historic low levels in relation to the US dollar, which helped to make Canadian goods competitive on the world market. NAFTA has clearly been a benefit to Canada s economy and continues to have a noticeable effect to this very day. The Mexican Peso Crisis The Mexican Peso Crisis in December 1994 was a currency crisis that was sparked by the Mexican government s devaluation of the peso against the U.S. dollar. In 1994, the government started expansionary fiscal and monetary policy in an attempt to attract more foreign investment dollars into Mexico. It used an odd form of government debt to attract investment. The government issued short term debt in the local currency, peso, but promised to repay the debt in US dollars. Basically, the government was gambling that the peso would remain strong or even strengthen against the US dollar so the government s debt would be reduced. I think the logic was that the government believed that new ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

A lowly Handmaid Offred, narrates Margaret Atwood s The Handmaid s Tale giving us a personal insight into her thoughts and memories, how total control has impacted on individuals through a unique perspective on the new society: from point of view of the oppressed. Similarly, Michael D Antuono s The Talk displays the corruption in leadership, subsequently creating a society where people fear the enforcers of law, where African American parents have to tell their children they are not safe. The main access into Lake Michigan for the Asian Carp would be through the Chicago Sanitary and Ship Canals which connects to the Mississippi River. These natural waterways have also been connected to man made rivers to allow easier access to the lake for trading and transporting goods. Though along the river there are a couple of dams, this does not stop the Asian Carp, but merely slows the Carps movement. • 9. Osteopathy Research Paper The impact that a badly sleeping baby has on its parents is, in one word, draining. Tired parents who try to continue to function normally while go about their daily tasks often resemble cast members from the Walking Dead zombie television show. There are a number of reasons why your baby may not be sleeping well. If you have ruled out medical issues with your paediatrician, an osteopath who is experienced in cranial manipulation should be next on your list to investigate. While putting your baby s head in a stranger s hands may immediately raise concern, there is a good reason why they can help your baby sleep better at night. What Is Osteopathy? Childbirth is a vigorous process for both mother and child, and sometimes during childbirth a baby s skull or spine can be pushed slightly out of alignment during the birthing process. This bad alignment can lead to breathing problems, body pain, and what appears to be a cranky child who has issues sleeping. The lack of sleeping, however, can instead be attributed to the fact your child is hurting while they are trying to sleep, and no matter how they try, they cannot get comfortable. Because a baby s skull and bones remain soft during the months following birth, an osteopath can use manipulation techniques to realign the skull bones or the spine to their correct position. This relieves the pain your baby is feeling, and that, in turn, leads to more sleep time because they are now comfortable when lying ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 10. The Importance Od Ethics And Social Responsibility Ethics and social responsibility are very important irrespective of the community in which you conduct business in. All stakeholder groups are benefited from the use of ethical behavior. For one, stock holders benefit as the financial numbers used to evaluate and engage in business activities are legitimate. These numbers will therefore provide a solid foundation in which to evaluate the merits of a particular activity such as a merger, acquisition, dividend, stock buy back and so forth. Consumers benefit as they are not mislead in regards to purchasing decisions. These builds trust as the brand will become synonymous with ethics further expanding the market share of the company. This will then benefit the shareholders even further as more consumers purchase products from this trusted company. The community benefits as the company contributes to the community through the profits garnered from sales (Business, 2011). As such, all stakeholder groups benefit and flourish. Social responsibility is no different in this regard. Companies, especially during tough economic circumstances want to demonstrate their commitment to the communities in which they operate. Usually, these commitments translate into high sales figures and better customer loyalty. Social responsibility also engages associates on a personal level as they can volunteer and contribute to causes pertinent to their beliefs. These increases employee satisfaction which ultimately helps improve productivity. In ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The kagame looked theatrical performers who normally took part in kabuki plays due to their heavy use of makeup and feminine appearance. There are cases of Noh performers resorting to prostitution after a show in order to please an important person. The substantial difference between the samurai s relationship with a chigo and a kagema is that the kagema system was based on gender differentiation as the beauty of the kagema, namely, was compared to that of a courtesan: it trespassed on heterosexual ground. Kills with bow and arrows was much more valued than courtly arts such as composing waka poems and playing music. (Sachi Schmidt Hori 90) Hypermasculinity was a major issue before the creation of Bushido as every man was expected to fit a certain standard of physical strength and kill potential. In the land of Yamato, the stronger the samurai was and the more threatening he looked, the more likely he would be hired. This is also true for the literature produced during the early period of Japan. Authors exaggerated the image of a samurai in this time period to make them seem more honorable and masculine. In reality, they were farmers, artisans, and common folk. It was not until after the Genpei war that samurai began to become a integral part of society. At first they were hired mercenaries, then a hired army, and then the warriors made known by writers standards, such as seen in the Tale of the Heike. With homosexuality, samurai were always the dominant in the relationship. • 12. The Ethics Of The Law Essay When it comes to large sums of money, it is not uncommon for the spender to feel they have been ripped off or become over protected. The practice of law is no exception to this phenomenon, and crocked lawyers and paralegals have negatively contributed to the notion. On several occasions law professionals have taken client money for personal use, acting against the law and rules of professional conduct. Although lawyers and paralegals have their own individual rules and guidelines to abide by, they follow the same professional structure of proper conduct. The rules of conduct for paralegals is governed by the Law Society of Upper Canada and is the governing body responsible for reports of misconduct. Further investigations will lay out the proper procedures and tasks that must be completed when a paralegal encounters an accusations of misconduct, specifically when a client accuses a paralegal of misappropriating money from the clients trust fund. When it comes to possible options it is important to remember that by proactively sending a report of the circumstance to the Law Society of Upper Canada with a detailed list of events, bookkeeping and accounts billed to the client will help your case prior to the client reporting you to the Law Society. Should a paralegal choose to ignore the threat of the client, in hopes that the client will not follow through with higher involvement, the paralegal will then face an audit by the Law Society. Morality And Virtue In The Shawshank Redemption In John Milton s Paradise Lost (1667) the archangel Michael predicts that the son of God shall raise/From the conflagrant mass, purg d and refin d,/New Heav ns, new Earth, Ages of endless date/Founded in righteousness and peace and love/To bring forth fruits Joy and eternal Bliss (Milton 247). In this quote, the archangel foretells of Jesus Christ and his overarching goodness and harmony, all of which he will share through his sacrifice and ultimate rebirth, bringing peace and light from his miracles and martyrdom. These characteristics of promulgating kindness and virtue manifest in the movie The Shawshank Redemption, through the enigmatic protagonist, Andy, who positively influences those around him and manages to commit his own, modernized, forms of thaumaturgy. Andy proves himself as a Christ figure through his kind, philanthropic nature that draws others to his character, making acolytes of ordinary men. For example, Andy helps to build a library at the prison, a declared impossible task or a miracle attempting to encourage those around him to learn and study because of the persistency of his letters. The scene in which the construction work begins details an essential aspect to Andy s victory in spreading knowledge, the director explaining it as tracking the construction. Walls have been knocked down. Men are painting, plastering, hammering. Lots of shelves going up. Red is head carpenter. We find him discussing plans with Andy. Throughout the scene the director utilizes humor to highlight the illiteracy of the inmates, further sanctifying Andy s goodness in teaching them at such an uneducated level. At least for Andy, his people will not suffer from lack of knowledge (Hosea 4:6). Furthermore, foreshadowing manifests in one of the books that inmate Haywood mentions, The Count of Monte Cristo, by Alexandre Dumas, as pointed out by Andy, the protagonist in the novel conducts a prison break, all while the eye level shots help the audience become more comfortable with the characters, shaping them into more realistic people and allowing a more clear interaction between each of the characters. Not only does Andy create disciples of the inmates, but he also creates followers from the antagonistic ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Someone who wasn t afraid was Amelia Earhart. She did something no one else had done or attempted to do before. Amelia Earhart, daring and outgoing from the start of her life, achieved many things, which is why she should be remembered because, indeed, flying is what ended her life. Amelia Earhart was born on July 24, 1898, in Atchison, Kansas. Around 1907, her whole family moved to Des Moines, Iowa. Amelia was a full out tomboy during her whole childhood. She once slid a sled off a barn roof, calling it a roller coaster. She also played all the sports that, normally, only boys played like football and basketball. During the summer of 1907, Amelia s dad, Edwin, took her and her sister, Muriel, to the Des Moines State Fair. Edwin was really attracted to the model airplane at the fair. On the other hand, Muriel and Amelia, surprisingly, were unamused. They just thought the plane was boring. (Lardner, 205 207). In 1917, Amelia and her mother took a trip to Toronto, Canada, even though, there was a war happening. Amelia saw wounded soldiers on her left and right. She knew she had to help in some way. So, she stayed in Toronto and became a nurse s aid. This began her path down the medical and nursing road. After the war, Amelia started premedical nursing school in New York. (Lardner, 207). What sets it aside from most literature is the element of fantasy and the use of the above aforementioned values. Reality is understood in varying degrees as part of everyday life. The fantasy, visionary or unexpected is utopian because there is no one to answer to the validity, or possibility of its existence. These cities are quickly established as impossible cities in reader s minds. With discussions and consideration of the five values readers slowly move into a place of imagination. For some readers the cities present an unusual mirror that reflects their own society and existence. For other readers that mirror is more of a crystal ball that helps define a possible future. We may build a design philosophy on these literary concepts because they are couched in terms of modes of communication and communication is usually what the graphic designer is trying to achieve (Jackob 105). Locating in Long Grove, IL, the original Long Grove Confectionery was a retail shop and candy kitchen that was housed in a nostalgic replica of a red schoolhouse. After a successful ten years, Long Grove Confectionery had outgrown a small kitchen and moved its production to a 25,000 square feet facility in Buffalo Grove, IL. Shortly after that transition, Long Grove Confectionary added another 60,000 square feet which increased its total size to 85,000 square feet in order to meet the rising demand from its retail and wholesale customers. It started when a Philadelphian, General Thomas Mifflin, rallied the militia because they were shamed by The American Crisis. By Christmas, Washington still barely had 6,000 troops fit for duty, knowing that he started getting reinforcements after the rally. Timing was important because if he waited, the enlistments would expire and the Delaware River would freeze. Finally, on Christmas night of 1776, the layer of ice covering the Delaware river cracked, allowing Washington and his troops to cross the river. This included 2,400 veteran troops and 18 cannons into Durham Boats. Many troops had to walk in the freezing cold grounds with their bare feet, leaving bloody footprints all around. Meanwhile, General James Ewing commanded 1,000 other troops nine miles above Trenton to block any retreating Hessians occupying Trenton. There are two interpretations on this passage. The first interpretation uses the words And He gave some as apostles, and some as prophets, and some as evangelist, and some as pastors and teachers (NASB). This interpretation develops the idea that there are particular roles or offices that Christ appoints individuals into. Therefore, some are gifted as apostles or prophets ect. The second interpretation is that Christ gave all these individuals for the building of his body. This problem exist because of grammer. Both the word some and the can modify the nouns apostles, prophets ect. Although both interpretations possess validity, based on context the best interpretation of the passage is the apostles, the prophets etc. I know I have taken a long time to make this point but bare with me. It is located in the circulatory system and it pumps blood along with other nutrients all through the body, which in turn keeps us alive. But, what is actually happening when it beats? Simultaneously, the heart is receiving deoxygenated blood and returning oxygenated blood to the body. It is made up of four chambers called the left and right atria, located on top, and the left and right ventricles, located on the bottom. The right atrium fills with blood from the veins and then contracts to send the blood to the right ventricle, which then sends oxygen rich blood to the lungs through arteries. At the same time, the left atrium fills with blood from the veins and then contracts sending blood to the left ventricle, which then sends blood to the rest of the body through arteries (Silverthorn). He stated that other countries, United States and Germany, were exporting so much more than France was. Jules Ferry compiled a report of statistics with his perspective of that great need for colonial expansion (Kleinman, 1897). This report ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... If not acted on or taken precautions against, North American goods will overcome the South American market that belonged to France first. All of this is connected to colonial policy. 2. What arguments against imperialism have been raised by Ferry s critics? How does he counter them? Jules Ferry believed it was the job of superior races to civilize the lesser races (Kleinman, 1897). He claims when the Spanish and Explorers introduced slavery to Central America it was a misunderstanding and their job as a superior race was not accomplished (Kleinman, 1897). That statement made it seem like he was trying to justify slavery but he circumvented this by repeating that it was the rights of the superior races to control the inferior ones. But, in our time, I maintain that European nations acquit themselves with generosity and with sincerity of this superior civilizing duty (Kleinman, 1897, para. 4) . 3. What non economic arguments does Ferry offer in favor of imperialism? The non economic arguments presented by Ferry in favor of imperialism was; the need for shelters, places of supply for markets to sell France s goods and ports for defense and provisioning for boats to have a safe harbor. The ports for boats were needed because ships were limited on the supplies they could carry, like coal, which is paramount to keep moving. A warship, however perfect its design, cannot carry more than two weeks supply of coal and a vessel without ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 37. Craft Beer Craft Beer Brewing Paper Two: Cause and Effect Fermented beverages have played a part in every civilization. The evolution of fermentation by human hands has been a diverse one. From the first fermented beverage, mead, found in ancient Greek, Egyptian, and Sumerian records to today s micro brewed barley based ales, fermented beverages have seen tremendous growth. Today, micro craft breweries are displacing the competition from big brewers in America (Kain n.p.). The number of craft breweries in America has more than doubled since 2011 due to ease of access to the equipment, and craft breweries are creating thousands of jobs, contributing millions of dollars to the U.S. economy, and providing enthusiasts with a wide variety of beers. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... I spent many weeks researching and reading up on the art of home brewing. After two months, I finally made my purchase of the basic equipment I needed. I spent hours laboring over deciding the type of ingredients to buy, what ratios to use, duration of fermentations, whether to perform a secondary fermentation; all my hard work bore fruit of a recipe that was very enjoyable. It had an aroma of raspberries, a slight hint of raspberries amidst the wheat and a slight bitter note. When I held a tasting of my beer, all the participants enjoyed my creation and had some constructive criticism on how I can improve the recipe. Some asked if I would be brewing more batches and they would like to take some home. Encouraged by the positive feedback, I have continued to brew beer. I ve also recently started a collaboration recipe with a local brewery s head brewer. The networking connections due to craft beer I have made over the past year would not have been possible if craft breweries hadn t given me and the beer enthusiasts something we could discuss while enjoying a pint of our favorite brews. What started as a simple hobby now has the potential to grow in to something bigger now that I ve started to collaborate with a local brewery s head brewer. Not only has craft beer captured many beer enthusiasts interest, it has also led to beer brewing equipment s readily availability as well as innovation in ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 38. Social Hierarchy In The Middle Ages Middling Problems Kings are the ones who lead and conquer. Lords are the ones who rule and sit barking orders to the lower classes. Knights are the ones who follow their code of honor, chivalry at its finest. Peasants are the ones who work until their bodies give out just to provide for their family. These are words that depicted the social hierarchy during the Middle Ages or rather, the Dark Ages. An age where not everyone is given the chance to elevate to a new status, where the oppressed stays oppressed while the aristocrats sits in their fine houses and live lavishly. But...only the men get to exercise their power, as the women during this period lay dormant, sitting in their chairs as if they were just glorified display pieces showcased by their husbands for all to see. It s even worse if they were peasants, as they were only expected to give childbirth and care for the family while working out in the fields. Meanwhile, in the current period, everyone is given a chance to increase their standing in life. Blood inheritance holds little to no meaning anymore, only skill and talent will let you prosper in life. This sounds like a good thing, but for me it feels like no change has happened at all. ... Peasants keep complaining and complaining about their situation, yet they do not do anything about it. That s because of Manorialism. They depend too much on their lords for food and lodging. • 39. Essay about The Heated Debate Concerning Stem Cell Research Inside an embryo there are dozens of stem cells. They are basically empty shells, but the special thing about them is that they are pluripotent, meaning that they can develop in to any cell or organ in human body. That makes stem cell research a gigantic part of today s medical research. With enough research, stem cells can be a big help to the human kind. Their extraordinary abilities could help scientists return memory to Alzheimer s patients, or grow a man s limb that had to be amputated due to some tragedy. But, they also have some flaws. As the name suggests, Embryonic stem cells can only be found in embryos and acquiring them destroys the embryo. Embryos are considered by many people to be alive; this creates a rather difficult ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Even though embryonic stem cells can be a great use to human kind, the fact is that this help comes at a terrible price. Embryonic stem cells can only be found in blastocyst of an embryo. There are those who believe that life begins at conception, so the blastocyst is a human life and to destroy it is unacceptable. Stem Cells can also be found in the umbilical cord of a baby just born. According to DO NO HARM, the coalition of Americans for research ethics, these stem cells are currently the only ones being used to treat humans, and have had positive results. Thanks to these cells, a number of drugs have been successfully tested and are now available. If less money is spent on the research of embryonic stem cells, the adult stem cell research could provide even greater advances. Another reason for abandoning this research is that all the promises made by scientists have not been proven. According to the Institute for Creation Research, they are all theories at best. Embryonic stem cell research could be a great help to society, but it can also take it on a downward spiral. This research can give answers to questions that have been asked since the beginning of time. With it humans can, in a sense, be made better, not have to deal with Alzheimer s or Parkinson s disease, and would make a lot of lives better. • 40. Two Different Philosophical Views in Grendel and Beowulf... Beowulf and Grendel are two tales similar in many ways, yet different from each other. These stories are like a coin; you cannot have one side without the other. Just as the sides of a coin share the same coin, these stories share a similar plot, a setting, and tell of the same events. The sides of a coin also have differences as do Beowulf and Grendel. In the case of these two tales this difference is in their respective philosophical views. Beowulf portrays the philosophical views of life that many people still regard today. Those views helped to shape and define the ideal Dane in their culture. For example, the traits looked for among the Danes were honesty, bravery, and humility. These three requirements in the Danes were but ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In contrast to the Danes of Beowulf , Grendel searched for his very reason of existence by asking the questions Why? and How? for answers. Grendel started off in the book struggling with finding meaning in his life while watching the people clearly doing things that gave their lives meaning. He became upset as he saw that he couldn t deter their spirits no matter what he did and started to feel jealous of their self found purpose. He realized that through various ways the people attained meaning. In response to his confusion over their self discovered purpose, Grendel started listening to the Shaper s words when he spoke to the people shaping their very beliefs which confused Grendel even more on the meaning of life. After listening to the Shaper for a while, readers can see Grendel in a state of contradiction. He started off killing people as a simple, bestial monstrosity but in the end he is shown as quite intelligent and capable of choosing whether to kill or not. Soon, Grendel started seeking answers to his questions from a dragon. The dragon s very philosophy on life was that there is no meaning of life which started to influence Grendel. Upon Grendel s persistent questions of Why? , the dragon told him You improve them, my boy! Can t you see that yourself? You stimulate them! The displeasure is lessened when he grants us our eighteen dollar meal money from the American Legion. In a hurry, we pack our baseball bags and get dressed in our blue striped uniforms. Once we were all aboard the vans supplied by the Legion, we started our drive to the ballpark. White powder boundaries bind us within our sanctuary. The walnut colored turf lines the basepaths, engulfing the dazzling white bases. The smell of the fresh open air and ascending scent of morning dew. The sun beams its powerful rays upon the field and illuminates the ball park. Our eyes are set on one thing, and one thing only, a state championship. The pledge of allegiance booms from speakers within the press box, the signal that a baseball game is near its commencement. I will: keep the rules, keep faith with my teammates, keep my temper, keep myself fit, keep a stout heart in defeat, keep my pride under in victory, keep a sound soul, a clean mind, and a healthy body . They are Adam Smith, Max Weber, and Karl Marx (Franks, 35). These three have inspired a lot of people down the years. Adam Smith is known as the theoretical father of modern economics. In 1776, Smith argued that the invisible hand of the market would change the economics of a nation and it would make the nation better. In his invisible hand theory, he states that if one person strived to achieve success, then the person would simultaneously benefit people around him. The prices and quality will be determined by relationships between consumers and sellers through supply and demand (Franks, 34). In other words, the market will not be regulated by the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The history of Marxism is controversial, and the ideas have influenced a lot of men and women to address social issues. Karl Marx stated that the occurrence of capitalism brought humanity a necessary step closer to socialism and the conquest of human inequality (Frank, 30). This is an inevitable part of the development of human society. According to scholar Mario Barrera, traditional Marxists thinks that a class is a group of people who have a similar relationship in things that they use in their daily lives, such as food, houses, and appliances (Franks, 30). Also, Marxists address that each society has its own particular class structure. In addition, Marxists have defined three primary classes that currently exist in a capitalist social system, and they can be found in the United States. The first group of classes consists of capitalists, people who own and control an enormous proportion of productive property in the United States. Having productive property means being able to produce products, such as producing products that people demand. In this case, capitalists are wealthy because they hold an overwhelming amount of productive property. The second group of classes consists of workers, people who have cars, computers. cell phones, and homes, but they own little of productive property. The reason is that most of their income comes from their wages, salaries, and tips. They do not own company themselves. The third group of classes compose by the bourgeoisie, who ...
