Comparing Alex s Take Oil And Hum
I think the fissure in Take Oil and Hum that Alex identifies between humans as a species and humans
as subjects defined by petroleum usage is very pertinent and illustrates the reflexive effects of the
Anthropocene, in other words, how its conception adjusts anthropological understandings. This
appears to argue for a kind of alienation of the reader by way of defamiliarizing the speaker s
dystopian visions. However, I feel that some aspects of Take Oil and Hum , such as seas of oil and the
Beetle laden carpet (28) of interior British Columbia, are all but too familiar.
Although sections of the poem may distance the reader from the contemporary petroleum subject,
there is also a side of the poem more concerned with praxis and activism that attempts to enlist the
reader in shared defiance of the Northern Gateway Pipeline. The final stanza of poem connects
humans at sites of protest around the world, Bangkok , Tahrir , and Tiananmen (29), by way of A
computer screen , and through A life in updates (28). In the connected spaces of technology, there is

the human as a species in relation to other species in an environment that would be endangered by the

reconceptualisation of ourselves as species and displacement of the modern petro subject, except by

Religious Tolerance In The American Colonies
Religious Tolerance
In the year 1776, the American Colonies drafted the Declaration of Independence. This document
symbolized freedom from Great Britain. According to Essentials of American Government Roots and
Reform, Englishmen and other Europeans left home seeking to enhance their fortunes. With them
came a host of laborers who hoped to find their own opportunities for riches [in the American
colonies] (O Connor, Sabato, and Yanus 6). As the colonies grew in size and stability, an influx of
Englishmen came to America for a variety of incentives. Two of these incentives would include:
recognition for accomplished goals and religious freedom. The desire of religious freedom led to the
development of many colonies, faiths, and laws. In the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This argument is based on information found on oyez.org. In 1963 a federal program, Higher
Education Facilities, created grants for educational institutions. These institutions were sponsored by
local churches. The grant specifically said the new buildings could have no religious associations for
twenty years. After the twenty year period, the building could be used for any purpose the church
needed it to. The grant attempted to neutralize the moral background that may influence the college
students in the new building. In 1970 a law suit was filed. The sponsors believed if they were
sponsoring these educational institutions, they should be able to use the building for religious reasons.
In 1971 the court decided the twenty year wait for the building to be able to be used for any
recreational purpose was unconstitutional. The court argued grants are considered federal aid;
therefore, the federal government has no right to intervene with religious purpose. The first
amendment claims the federal government cannot deny anyone of practicing religion anywhere
including in a granted building. The court also said since the money was not used to fund religious
activity the building was like any other building. The court believed college students would be able to
decide with their own opinions on rather to attend these church services. The services were not
mandatory to attend. Also, the court decided the period

Television Program For Children
Affections of television program to children in each cognitive development stage.
There are so many different television programs out there designed for children, but the reality is
when the word children includes kids of the age between births to 12 years old, the affection of those
programs must be different in different stages of cognitive development of children between births till
the age of 12. Therefore, my paper is going to talk about how those affections are different in each
stage of development and why should it be different by using specific examples of television program
designed for children, and the theory of cognitive development from Jean Piage. The television

instrument for tomorrow s concert.
In order to understand the affections of this television program on each cognitive stage of children, I
must introduce Jean Paige, a constructivist as well as an interactionist that developed a cognitive
theory on children. He believed that children think and reason differently at different periods in their
lives. He discovered that children are developed by passing through an invariant sequence that
includes four distinct stages. The four stages are: sensorimotor, from birth to the age of 2;
preoperational 2 7 years old; concrete operational 7 12 years old; and formal operational 12 years and
up.
Start with sensorimotor stage, which include the children between 0 2 years old. This is the stage of
cognitive development where kids have basic motor skills and learn how to move in the environment.
The mental structures are mostly concerned with the mastery of concrete objects.
Children in this stage of cognitive development would not be able to remember any moral or theme

The World s Tallest Building And The Wealthiest Man From...
Millennials living in the United States today may not know what a true American world looks like due
to recent efforts of globalization. Many people today only know what Fareed Zakaria describes as The
Post American World, a world where technology advancements and economic successes are all being
witnessed outside the good old United States. Prior to The post American World, America dominated
in nearly every area of success including economics, politics, science, and culture (2). The post
American World isn t one where the United States does not exist or even an anti America like the
phrase may suggest. However, The Post American World illustrates, the rise of the rest or the growth
of countries like China, India, Brazil, and Russia. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Zakaria describes what he terms the rise of the rest as a consequence of the continuous efforts of
American politicians and diplomats urging countries to open their markets, free up their politics, and
embrace trade and technology (60). The basis idea of this book highlights the United States road to
being a global superpower and how its stagnation during recent decades have caused a striking shift
from America being the world s only actor to a weakening, less dominating player in the international
system. Although this realization is alarming, this actually means good for America. Ultimately,
Zakaria describes a world where countries are more open, market friendly, and democratic (242)
because of the good old United States. Zakaria s main arguments in his book support key observations
of how the United States can continue to prosper in this rapidly shifting international world. Zakaria
does not doubt the capabilities of the U.S. as a global superpower but instead argues for the
achievements of countries less vouched for during the most recent decades. These achievements
economically, scientifically, and politically have put countries especially China and India running
along side the once untouchable United States. He argues that this great power shift should be
recognized but not feared. It s the fear that will cause America to fall behind the rise of the rest. Along
with Zakaria s underlying assumption that

Black bears in BC have a population that is 9 times that of the grizzlies, however, the results show that
the grizzlies have inflicted 9.7 times more attacks on humans in the past 16 years. This goes to show
that grizzly bears have a higher tendency to attack due to the natural factors and stresses that act on
them cause them to be much more aggressive with less tolerance to threats (Herrero, Aspects of
Evolution and Adaptation in American Black Bears (Ursus americanus Pallas) and Brown and Grizzly

The Benefits Of The Athenian Democracy
The athenian democracy started to develop after the Persian War. Under Particle s rule, Athens
economy thrived and the government became more democratic. Not all Athens citizen agree about the
idea of democracy. There also people who supported democracy, because they think it will help free
the citizens from the rule of tyrants and long. To make Athens democracy stronger they have to bring
people together. First, Athenian democracy should be about every citizen and how they should take
part in Athens democracy. For example, many people who are part of Athenian democracy are the
ones who owned parts of the land. The word democracy had not yet been invented, the foundations
has been laid (D#7). This shows that, only the rich are part of the Athenian democracy and not all the
poor citizens were part of Athenian democracy. Many of the poor citizens didn t receive the rights they
deserved. In conclusion, not all of the citizens of Athen were a part of the Athenian democracy.
Second, Athens democracy is about how no one should be above the law. For example, if you commit
a crime, then you should get the punishment for your crime. ... required to pay the penalty: He had to
settle his private affairs within ten days and to depart from the city for ten years (D#6). This shows
that, the government is trying to maintain order by punishing people who commit a crime without a
look at who they are. There are consequence for their actions. In conclusion, by maintaining

Analysis Of My Antonia By Willa Cather
Everyone can think upon their past and remember a time where things were easier or more fun.
Throughout the book My Antonia by Willa Cather, longing for a time in the past is the recurring
theme. The story is told through Jim Burden s eyes and his times with the lovely Antonia. As life goes
on, Jim reminisces about his childhood with Antonia. These memories transits from teenage years, all
the way into late adulthood for Jim and Antonia. To start, the first time we see Jim and Antonia s
relationship drift is after Mr Schimerdas dies from supposedly killing himself. When Jim comes to
teach Antonia more English after that, he begins to only teach Yulka. Antonia, being the next oldest
kin, had to go out for work on the farm. I ain t got time to learn. I can work like mens now. My mother
can t say no more how Amrosch do all and nobody to help him. I can work as much as him. School is
alright for little boys. I help make this land one good farm. (61) Antonia is already four years older
than Jim, making her responsibilities even greater. Jim misses the days where the two of them went
out in adventures, but soon has to go to school in town. This means that Jim will be even further away
from Antonia. Eventually, Jim and his Grandparents move into town so Jim can go to school. At which
is bittersweet for him and the Schimerdas. After I began to go to the country school, I saw less of the
Bohemians. We were sixteen pupils at the Sod Schoolhouse, and we all came on horseback

Arch Of Titus
Rome had many significant works of art. The Arch of Titus was one of them. The Arch of Titus was a
Roman Triumphal art that was constructed by Domitian in 81 C.E. in Via Sacra, Rome in the foot of
the Palatine hill. The Arch of Titus was constructed to commemorate the victories of Titus and
Vespasian in the Jewish war. The Jewish war began because Judea was ruled by the Romans and they
had no respect towards the Jewish religious traditions. After Judea being ruled by Rome and the
struggle over the blending of Greek and Jewish traditions it exploded into war. The war was led by
Titus, who conquered Jerusalem and destroyed Jerusalem temple. It was also a political and religious
statement that expresses the divinity of Titus. The Arch was made out of Pentelic marble. Romans

The Rate Of Student Loan Essay
Student loans, also often called student debts, are financial aids in a loan form that requires borrowers
to repay in the future (Wikipedia). Usually, student loans mean to provide students with financial
issues the opportunity to obtain a college degree, which leads to an average lifetime income increase
of $1.13 million for men and $792,000 for women (University of Kansas 1). As student loan aims at
helping people live a better life, many college students exhibit negative attitudes towards interest rate
of student debt, which is considered being too high, and debt issuers and the market are believed as
the cause of high interest rate. Is it really true that student loans are tools of capitalists to rip off every
penny from students? What factors exactly determine the rate of student loan?
In fact, more than 90% of outstanding student loans are federal loans issued by the government,
United States Department of Education, and therefore, their rates are determined by federal laws.
According to the Bipartisan Student Loan Certainty Act passed in August 2013, federal student debt
rate should be reset annually based on 10 year Treasury Note rate with a fixed margin in addition. For
2016 2017 academic year, standard 10 year federal undergraduate student loan rate is 3.76% and the
graduate loan rate is 5.31%, according to U.S. Department of Education.
In contrast, student loan issued by private institutions has considerably higher rate. For example, the
starting rate for

Slavery Frederick Douglass Analysis
The Wonderful Life
In Narrative of the Life of Frederick Douglass, an American Slave, Frederick Douglass mentions that
slaves do not have the privilege to have an education. In Nicomachean Ethics, Aristotle explains that
without happiness, doing something good will not really matter because you will not be happy. In
Slavery, Jean Jacques Rousseau mentions that war is not the key to end slavery because war is only for
states not against man to man. In Thinking in Education, John Dewey says that thinking is another
method in learning because it will help students reflect on things. Life can be wonderful if people
learn to find ways to keep that happiness in them.

Dewey says that people have dwelt especially on the negative side because we let our minds think that
there is a specific way of thinking (6). As people keep growing, their knowledge keeps developing.
While people keep learning, they have to learn to accept somethings. One of those things is by simply
being able to accept that if a paper is wrong is wrong but at least they tried. Looking at a paper or
project that is wrong sometimes frightens people but it should not be that way because those who have
bad papers become the best ones. Even though, people are wrong that should not stop with their
education because of that. Meanwhile, Douglass was doing his chores, he was able to take bread from
home and share with the little white boys who, in return, would give [him] more valuable bread of
knowledge which was able to help him with his reading and writing (2). Being wrong does not mean
that this is the end, instead is a way to motivate yourself to do the best as you can to achieve
something better. People should not be letdown when they do something wrong because no one is
perfect. People just find ways to learn even if I some cases they do thigs wrong. The whole point of
this is to be able to learn and be wrong. People should not be disappointed if they do a paper and they

Role Of Lethal Lipotoxic Hepatocyte Injury
Lethal Lipotoxic Hepatocyte Injury
Accumulation of lipid intermediates in hepatocytes causes hepatocellular lipotoxicity, leading to
cellular stress, dysfunction and eventually cell death. Lipotoxicity induced hepatocyte cell death
appears to be mainly mediated by the apoptotic machinery activated by death receptors and
endoplasmic reticulum (ER) stress.5 6 Other cell death modes, such as necroptosis and pyroptosis,
have also been reviewed recently.6 7 However, the contribution of necroptosis in lipid induced
hepatocyte death during NASH needs further definition.6 8 Albeit growing evidence supports a role
for the inflammasome in NASH development, the contribution of hepatocyte pyroptosis to
hepatocellular injury and death also needs to be ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Ballooned hepatocytes are not only a hallmark of NASH but also, they have been implicated in the
disease pathogenesis. Ballooned hepatocytes generate sonic hedgehog (Shh), a ligand of the
developmental hedgehog signaling cascade, which promotes liver fibrogenesis.11 12 Later, ballooned
hepatocytes were proposed to represent undead cells .13 Ballooned hepatocytes bear some analogy to
Drosophila melanogaster stressed cells which exist in a state of initiated cell death program that
cannot be executed ( undead ) and secrete various factors, including Shh, to promote tissue repair and
healing.14 Models of undead ballooned hepatocytes using lipotoxic treatment in hepatocytes lacking
caspase 9, a protease critical for the execution of the apoptotic pathway, are characterized by
activation of c Jun N terminal kinase (JNK), which led to an upregulation of Shh in the absence of cell
death. In these cells, lipotoxicity induced hepatocyte derived Shh functioned as an autocrine survival
factor. These observations imply that inhibition of hedgehog signaling may prevent the development
of ballooned hepatocytes, a hypothesis yet to be tested.
ER stress has also been shown to promote expression and secretion of Shh by hepatocytes.12 Shh may
then promote fibrogenesis by activating hepatic stellate cells, the major target cells of hepatic Shh
signaling. Hepatocytes are also an important hedgehog responsive cell type during lipotoxicity. First,
hepatocytes express different

Nails are not just an aesthetic feature of your body, they can tell a lot about your physical health!
When the nails start to grow in a different shape or even change their colour, it usually is a sign that
something might be wrong with your health. American Academy of Dermatology agrees to this,
according to their study Nails often reflect our general state of health. Changes in the nail, such as
discoloration or thickening, can signal health problems including liver and kidney diseases, heart and
lung conditions, anemia, and diabetes. In many cases, the changes to your nails can point to some

away or grow out on their own. You just need to be cautious about them and try not to put excess
pressure on the nails! In case the white spots don t go away eventually, you might consider getting
medical help because it can be a fungal nail infection (known as Onychomycosis).
Pitted Nails
Pitted nails i.e. nails with multiple pits or dents are common in people with skin diseases like psoriasis
and eczema.
Solution for Pitted Nails If you are yet to be diagnosed with any such skin condition, then you should

The poem Darkness by Lord Byron (George Gordon) talks about how the world is going to shut down
and the struggles they go through. The author talks about nature, social, and of course supernatural
elements. This poem was written during the Romanism period. He starts off with a dream about the
world shutting off. It s reality but it is actually a dream, more like a vision. The author swift s through
the ways they are struggling and how they are hoping for light to restore. The author s depressing tone
overshadows the struggles that they re going through. In line one, the speaker immediately begins with

key factor for the development of the region is the necessity to adapt to the increasing participation of
China and India in the economy of the world. At the same time, China is becoming a important
importer of commodities from Latin America and a competitor in textiles and labor intensive

Essay on Middle Passage
INTRO Examination into the true heart of experience and meaning, Charles Johnson s Middle Passage
looks at the structures of identity and the total transformation of the self. The novel talks about the
hidden assumptions of human and literary identity and brings to view the real problems of these
assumptions through different ideas of allusion and appropriation. As the novel tells Rutherford
Calhoun s transformation of un awareness allows him to cross the sea of suffering (209) making him
forget who he really is. The novel brings forth the roots of human being and the true complications
and troubles of African American experiences. Stuck between posed questions of identity, the abstract

As the fundamentals of the text work to show explanations of meaning and motive the text tends to
confront its own contradictory claims to imagination and inaccuracy. These three different areas use
allusion and appropriation to set up the text s body and its essences of questioning the self. The body
occupies an important part of Middle Passage, for small moments such as Rutherford s hiccuping
whenever he seems to get himself into a philosophical dilemma (125 260) to the enfolding of death
and unconsciousness that marks Rutherford s most profound transformation: Then I fainted. Or died.
Whatever. (171) The boundaries between body non body , between individual experience and
universal process, break down in the novel s process to loose the reliance on the body for its
identification. This lose of identity brings forth Rutherford s shifting perspective on gender relations,
and the encounter with the Allmuseri. Rutherford s grasp on the boundaries of life and death, gender

Ethical Issues Facing The Health Care Profession
Ethical Issues Ethical issues are moral challenges facing the health care profession (Stanhope
Lancaster, 2012, p. 127). Ethical issues are major concern in the healthcare field because healthcare
providers observe ethical issues every day and have to make ethical decisions. A great example in the
medical field is advance directives these documents are written to address individual s medical
preferences. These documents usually take effect when patients are no longer able to make informed
health care decisions for them. These documents are helpful to everyone and health care providers,
there are ethical considerations that can make the use of advance directives difficult (Llama, 2014).
This author is a geriatric nurse that recently observed an advance directive ethical issue in the clinical
setting. The purpose of this paper is to outline the steps of ethical decision making within the seven
steps for the framework. This paper will also identify the facts of the case from the perspective of each
person impacted by the situation and identify which ethical principles were involved in the situation.
Ethical Issues and People impacted Advance directives can become ethical issues especially when a
family attempts to enforce their opinions on healthcare instead of what a patient had requested in a
living will. Advance directives, sometimes called a living will, are legal documents that allow an
individual to spell out your decisions about end of life care ahead of

imagining the task that I was about to perform before I performed that task. For example I stood in
front of the hill and imagined in my head everything I wanted to do step by step so I was able to
perform the training at a high intensity and a high level. I also imagined myself working harder and
how good I felt at the end of the exercise. By using visualisation influences my concentration, as I had

The American Political System Essay
The American Political System The American political system is a federal system, which consists of
division of a national government and state governments. However, it was not always a federal
system, it was not based on the Constitution, but on the Articles of Confederation. This system divides
authority between sovereign national and state government. Under the Articles of the Confederation,
each state retained its ultimate governing authority. .[1] The power of government must be equal to its
responsibilities. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The state government was protected under the Articles of Confederation and had the ultimate
governing authority. 2 The government of the Articles was a union of states rather than also of people.
The result was a weak national government, since its strength depended entirely of the states
willingness to cooperate (p 61). If the states refused to pay the national government could not do
anything to get the money. The final result of non payment from the states was a weaker national
defense. The states wanted to retain their sovereignty and argued that the national government would
not be able serve the people as well as the union of states. Under the new governing system known as
federalism the state government would have the responsibilities of the chartering of local
governments, education, public safety, registration and voting, intrastate commerce.
In 1787 a new form of government was introduced at the Philadelphia convention, which changed the
power between national and state governments. 3 The Philadelphia convention thereby devised a
governing system that came to be known as federalism. Federalism is the division of sovereignty, or
ultimate governing authority between a national government and regional (that is, state) governments.

Achievements Of The Mughal Empire
As the Mughal Empire embarks the start to the highest points of tradition and culture in India, this age
began with the creation of India s greatest Empires The Mughals. The Mughal rulers brought India to
its pinnacle of political power, and cultural success (Spielvogel 530). To acknowledge some of the
greatest rulers of the Mughal Empire Babur, Akbar, and Aurangzeb; these rulers created some of the
greatest achievements in India, and some of the greatest controversies as well.
The founder of the Mughal Empire was Babur, who had an esteemed background, in regards to his
family. Babur s father was an Asian conqueror of Tamerlane, and Babur inherited a part of the empire.
At his youth, Babur led a group of soldiers who conquered Kabul in 1504. With Babur s past working

North India, until his death in 1530 (Spielvogel 530). However, it was not his revere background that
made Babur a powerful model during this time, it was Babur s resilience and dominance that led India
into one of it s highest peaks. With only twelve thousand troops against a significantly large army,
Babur captured Delhi, and established his rule there (Spielvogel 531). With Babur s explicit
intelligence, and prowess, Babur established himself to be one of the greatest rulers in India, and led
India into a time of achievement and success.

Mutual Engagement In The Marine Corps
At 18, I enlisted in the Marine Corps. In basic training, I was introduced to a new way of speaking,
and of thinking. This new language, integral to the transformation of my thought practices,
transformed me, from a civilian to a Marine. My experiences in the Marines confirm the idea of
linguistic relativity, proposed in the Sapir Whorf Hypothesis, and served as my initiation into the
Marine Corp s Community of Practice.
During the three months spent in boot camp, recruits learned an entirely new language. From the
moment of arrival on Parris Island, we were not allowed to use pronouns. The words I, you, we, or
me, were strictly forbidden. Uttering one of these pronouns inevitably led to I.P.T, the acronym for

ties Marines together all over the world. When I go on to a military base today, I slip right back into

Even though I am usually on Navy and Air Force bases, the retirees in them are from various
branches. I might say to a man I ve met on base, So what was your M.O.S.? I was a 3381. I was TAD

Slavery in American Literature
Slavery in the United States was a form of unfree labor which existed as a legal institution in North
America for more than a century before the founding of the United States in 1776, and continued
mostly in the South until the passage of the Thirteenth Amendment to the United States Constitution
in 1865. Most slaves were black and were held by whites, although some Native Americans and free
blacks also held slaves; there were a small number of white slaves as well.
. Slavery spread to the areas where there was good quality soil for large plantations of high value cash
crops, such as tobacco, cotton, sugar, and coffee. By the early decades of the 19th century, the

The slave narratives also gave Northerners a glimpse into the life of slave communities: the love
between family members, the respect for elders, the bonds between friends. They described an
enduring, truly African American culture, which was expressed through music, folktales, and religion.
Then, as now, the narratives of ex slaves provided the world with the closest look at the lives of
enslaved African American men, women and children. (in incheiere)
Uncle Tom s Cabin had a tremendous impact. The character Uncle Tom is an African American who
retains his integrity and refuses to betray his fellow slaves at the cost of his life. His firm Christian
principles in the face of his brutal treatment made him a hero to whites. In contrast, his tormenter
Simon Legree, the Northern slave dealer turned plantation owner, enraged them with his cruelty.
Stowe convinced readers that the institution of slavery itself was evil, because it supported people like
Legree and enslaved people like Uncle Tom. Because of her work, thousands rallied to the anti slavery
cause.
Southerners were outraged, and declared the work to be criminal, slanderous, and utterly false. A
bookseller in Mobile, Alabama, was forced out of town for selling copies. Stowe received threatening
letters and a package containing the dismembered ear of a black person. Southerners

Self Reliance By Ralph Waldo Emerson Analysis
From Ralph Waldo Emerson s essay Self Reliance , I drew a genuine sense of self. The essay taught
me the value of the autonomy, its connection to the individual, and its role in society. Emerson s initial
assertion of thinking for oneself and the encouragement of personal experience over knowledge
gained from books both puzzled and amused me. As Emerson continues, his defense for the common
man s value and the evolution of humankind for the better introduced an unfamiliar sense of gratitude
towards my fellow man that I had never experienced before. The final third of this essay inspires me
to be a leader rather than a follower, especially after the denunciation of the one thing that inhibits me
most in this life: the fear of failure. Self Reliance offered me an unexpected, but pleasant encounter
that engaged me in a manner I had not yet undergone. To believe your own thought... is genius which
is amusing because technically we are reading his thoughts (Emerson 1). So, should we accept them as
our own or try to think for ourselves. Either way, Emerson could not have phrased it any better.
Modern society values individuals of the highest caliber in the fields of athletics, art, and intellect, but
also forces is to be passive in our thinking instead of speaking our minds and furthering our own
scholastic experiences as well as the ones of those around us. Moses, Plato, and Milton are revered for
their unconventional thinking because they were brave enough to speak up (Emerson 1). Because of
their courage, they are recognized as remarkably influential leaders in their respective fields, but it is
nothing that the common man cannot do. The people who belittle the personal intuition of their peers
just because it is different than theirs and, instead, choose to rely on others opinions lack the inventive
power necessary for bold individualism. Their absence of conviction results not in different ideas, but
in the acceptance of the same old, boring ideas that their peers may have initially intuited. When
Emerson said that we recognize our own rejected ideas in every work of genius, I could personally
relate to that and it left me thinking that I should speak up more often in Mr. Kelly s class. For in

What Is The Significance Of The French Revolutionary And...
The period between 20th April 1792, when after prolonged debates the deputies of the French
National Assembly finally declared war on the Habsburgs of Austria and 18th June 1815, marking
Napoleon Bonaparte s defeat at Waterloo, was characterised by almost constant warfare, save for the
brief peace of Amiens (March 1802 May 1803). In fact, such was the extent of these wars which
spanned a little over two decades that until 1914, the British referred to them as the Great War .1 Of
late, these wars have been an object of much contention and have come under the microscope to assist
scholars in fully appreciating their significance in the transformation of European warfare. Even today,
scholars and historians alike, remain divided over just how substantial a role the French Revolutionary
and Napoleonic wars played in altering the nature of wars after 1792. Without disregarding either side,
Roger Chickering has identified two master narratives which do a remarkable job of explaining this
period s importance, albeit in two extremely dissimilar ways.2
According to Chickering, the first narrative, a notion hypothesized by Michael Howard and further
developed by Geoffrey Parker, holds that the French Revolutionary and Napoleonic wars were merely
a continuation and intensification of the tactical and technological changes gunpowder, musketry and
artillery that occurred in the sixteenth and seventeenth centuries, which in turn paved the way for the
colossal standing armies

Research Paper On Arctic
The Arctic is located in the northernmost part of the planet. It is a polar area that consists of the Arctic
Ocean, adjacent seas and parts of different European and North American countries: Canada, the
United States, Russia, Sweden, Denmark, Norway, etc.
The Artic holds a unique ecosystem and very cold temperatures; however, some indigenous peoples
have adapted quite well to these extreme conditions.
Its flora consists mostly of mosses and lichens that grow so close to the ground that form tundra. The
fauna is characterized by different species of herbivores like arctic hares, lemmings, etc. There are
also predators like the snowy owl, the arctic fox and the grizzly bear, among many other animals,
especially marine species.
However, one the most particular aspects of the Arctic is its weather and temperatures. Its cold winters
are very characteristic along with its cool summers. The area has low precipitations and they are

Daily temperature variations are less common in the High Arctic during winter because of the lack of

Nevertheless, it is important to mention the effects global warming has had on the Artic. Among these
effects, we can mention the rising temperatures that result in the loss of sea ice and the melting of the

causes the loss of the Arctic s fauna s

allows one to have a higher rate of pay, greater job security, and outstanding career opportunity. One
of the benefits of becoming a welder is higher rate of pay. A union worker s income per week is
around $970. A non union worker makes up to $763 per week. 82% of union workers have paid sick

Public Education In The Film Waiting For Superman
There is an evident issue with the public schooling system in America today. Throughout the entire
country, kids are the victims of schools that fail to gift them with the knowledge that they need to

because their education simply does not provide them a way out. In the film, Waiting for Superman,
director Davis Guggenheim claims that schools are failing to meet beneficial education standards for
all students. Due to their demographic, children in lower class areas of the country do not have access
to the same educational opportunities that wealthier families receive. Throughout the film,
Guggenheim s use of music and pacing creates a powerful feeling of sympathy in the audience
towards the children that are not privileged to a better education because of their economic status. By
utilizing these devices, the film ultimately hopes to build on the audience s sympathy in order to
possibly ignite a change for the public education system in the United States. There are a variety of
ways in which music is used throughout this film, but the use of sad music and silence are the two
most important in terms of building a strong emotional appeal. By implementing these styles of music,
the film illustrates the emotional frustration within lower class students and parents who are simply
looking to find a beneficial education for their children. Melancholy music serves as an

  • 2. Comparing Alex s Take Oil And Hum I think the fissure in Take Oil and Hum that Alex identifies between humans as a species and humans as subjects defined by petroleum usage is very pertinent and illustrates the reflexive effects of the Anthropocene, in other words, how its conception adjusts anthropological understandings. This appears to argue for a kind of alienation of the reader by way of defamiliarizing the speaker s dystopian visions. However, I feel that some aspects of Take Oil and Hum , such as seas of oil and the Beetle laden carpet (28) of interior British Columbia, are all but too familiar. Although sections of the poem may distance the reader from the contemporary petroleum subject, there is also a side of the poem more concerned with praxis and activism that attempts to enlist the reader in shared defiance of the Northern Gateway Pipeline. The final stanza of poem connects humans at sites of protest around the world, Bangkok , Tahrir , and Tiananmen (29), by way of A computer screen , and through A life in updates (28). In the connected spaces of technology, there is Black ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Regarded in this way, The Enpipe Line is a necessary expression of an imperiled ecosystem of which humans form but one part. The heteroglossic character of the human voice in The Enpipe Line, with its variety of contributors, textual sources and styles of poetry, gestures towards an understanding of the human as a species in relation to other species in an environment that would be endangered by the Northern Gateway Pipeline. This analysis returns us to Alex s proposal of a critical reconceptualisation of ourselves as species and displacement of the modern petro subject, except by way of the polyphonic discourse of The Enpipe Line by which it seems to have effectively gone dream vs. dream (Back Cover) against ... This document symbolized freedom from Great Britain. According to Essentials of American Government Roots and Reform, Englishmen and other Europeans left home seeking to enhance their fortunes. With them came a host of laborers who hoped to find their own opportunities for riches [in the American colonies] (O Connor, Sabato, and Yanus 6). As the colonies grew in size and stability, an influx of Englishmen came to America for a variety of incentives. Two of these incentives would include: recognition for accomplished goals and religious freedom. The desire of religious freedom led to the development of many colonies, faiths, and laws. In the ... These institutions were sponsored by local churches. The grant specifically said the new buildings could have no religious associations for twenty years. After the twenty year period, the building could be used for any purpose the church needed it to. The grant attempted to neutralize the moral background that may influence the college students in the new building. In 1970 a law suit was filed. The sponsors believed if they were sponsoring these educational institutions, they should be able to use the building for religious reasons. In 1971 the court decided the twenty year wait for the building to be able to be used for any recreational purpose was unconstitutional. The court argued grants are considered federal aid; therefore, the federal government has no right to intervene with religious purpose. The first amendment claims the federal government cannot deny anyone of practicing religion anywhere including in a granted building. The court also said since the money was not used to fund religious activity the building was like any other building. The court believed college students would be able to decide with their own opinions on rather to attend these church services. The services were not mandatory to attend. Many people today only know what Fareed Zakaria describes as The Post American World, a world where technology advancements and economic successes are all being witnessed outside the good old United States. Prior to The post American World, America dominated in nearly every area of success including economics, politics, science, and culture (2). Zakaria describes what he terms the rise of the rest as a consequence of the continuous efforts of American politicians and diplomats urging countries to open their markets, free up their politics, and embrace trade and technology (60). The basis idea of this book highlights the United States road to being a global superpower and how its stagnation during recent decades have caused a striking shift from America being the world s only actor to a weakening, less dominating player in the international system. Although this realization is alarming, this actually means good for America. Ultimately, Zakaria describes a world where countries are more open, market friendly, and democratic (242) because of the good old United States. Zakaria s main arguments in his book support key observations of how the United States can continue to prosper in this rapidly shifting international world. Zakaria does not doubt the capabilities of the U.S. as a global superpower but instead argues for the achievements of countries less vouched for during the most recent decades. These achievements economically, scientifically, and politically have put countries especially China and India running along side the once untouchable United States. He argues that this great power shift should be recognized but not feared. It s the fear that will cause America to fall behind the rise of the rest. The Arch of Titus was a Roman Triumphal art that was constructed by Domitian in 81 C.E. in Via Sacra, Rome in the foot of the Palatine hill. The Arch of Titus was constructed to commemorate the victories of Titus and Vespasian in the Jewish war. The Jewish war began because Judea was ruled by the Romans and they had no respect towards the Jewish religious traditions. • 13. The Rate Of Student Loan Essay Student loans, also often called student debts, are financial aids in a loan form that requires borrowers to repay in the future (Wikipedia). Usually, student loans mean to provide students with financial issues the opportunity to obtain a college degree, which leads to an average lifetime income increase of $1.13 million for men and $792,000 for women (University of Kansas 1). As student loan aims at helping people live a better life, many college students exhibit negative attitudes towards interest rate of student debt, which is considered being too high, and debt issuers and the market are believed as the cause of high interest rate. Is it really true that student loans are tools of capitalists to rip off every penny from students? What factors exactly determine the rate of student loan? In fact, more than 90% of outstanding student loans are federal loans issued by the government, United States Department of Education, and therefore, their rates are determined by federal laws. According to the Bipartisan Student Loan Certainty Act passed in August 2013, federal student debt rate should be reset annually based on 10 year Treasury Note rate with a fixed margin in addition. For 2016 2017 academic year, standard 10 year federal undergraduate student loan rate is 3.76% and the graduate loan rate is 5.31%, according to U.S. Department of Education. In contrast, student loan issued by private institutions has considerably higher rate. For example, the starting rate for ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Dewey says that people have dwelt especially on the negative side because we let our minds think that there is a specific way of thinking (6). As people keep growing, their knowledge keeps developing. While people keep learning, they have to learn to accept somethings. One of those things is by simply being able to accept that if a paper is wrong is wrong but at least they tried. Looking at a paper or project that is wrong sometimes frightens people but it should not be that way because those who have bad papers become the best ones. Even though, people are wrong that should not stop with their education because of that. Meanwhile, Douglass was doing his chores, he was able to take bread from home and share with the little white boys who, in return, would give [him] more valuable bread of knowledge which was able to help him with his reading and writing (2). Being wrong does not mean that this is the end, instead is a way to motivate yourself to do the best as you can to achieve something better. People should not be letdown when they do something wrong because no one is perfect. People just find ways to learn even if I some cases they do thigs wrong. Role Of Lethal Lipotoxic Hepatocyte Injury Lethal Lipotoxic Hepatocyte Injury Accumulation of lipid intermediates in hepatocytes causes hepatocellular lipotoxicity, leading to cellular stress, dysfunction and eventually cell death. Lipotoxicity induced hepatocyte cell death appears to be mainly mediated by the apoptotic machinery activated by death receptors and endoplasmic reticulum (ER) stress.5 6 Other cell death modes, such as necroptosis and pyroptosis, have also been reviewed recently.6 7 However, the contribution of necroptosis in lipid induced hepatocyte death during NASH needs further definition.6 8 Albeit growing evidence supports a role for the inflammasome in NASH development, the contribution of hepatocyte pyroptosis to hepatocellular injury and death also needs to be ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Ballooned hepatocytes are not only a hallmark of NASH but also, they have been implicated in the disease pathogenesis. Ballooned hepatocytes generate sonic hedgehog (Shh), a ligand of the developmental hedgehog signaling cascade, which promotes liver fibrogenesis.11 12 Later, ballooned hepatocytes were proposed to represent undead cells .13 Ballooned hepatocytes bear some analogy to Drosophila melanogaster stressed cells which exist in a state of initiated cell death program that cannot be executed ( undead ) and secrete various factors, including Shh, to promote tissue repair and healing.14 Models of undead ballooned hepatocytes using lipotoxic treatment in hepatocytes lacking caspase 9, a protease critical for the execution of the apoptotic pathway, are characterized by activation of c Jun N terminal kinase (JNK), which led to an upregulation of Shh in the absence of cell death. In these cells, lipotoxicity induced hepatocyte derived Shh functioned as an autocrine survival factor. These observations imply that inhibition of hedgehog signaling may prevent the development of ballooned hepatocytes, a hypothesis yet to be tested. ER stress has also been shown to promote expression and secretion of Shh by hepatocytes.12 Shh may then promote fibrogenesis by activating hepatic stellate cells, the major target cells of hepatic Shh signaling. The essay taught me the value of the autonomy, its connection to the individual, and its role in society. Emerson s initial assertion of thinking for oneself and the encouragement of personal experience over knowledge gained from books both puzzled and amused me. As Emerson continues, his defense for the common man s value and the evolution of humankind for the better introduced an unfamiliar sense of gratitude towards my fellow man that I had never experienced before. The final third of this essay inspires me to be a leader rather than a follower, especially after the denunciation of the one thing that inhibits me most in this life: the fear of failure. Self Reliance offered me an unexpected, but pleasant encounter that engaged me in a manner I had not yet undergone. To believe your own thought... is genius which is amusing because technically we are reading his thoughts (Emerson 1). So, should we accept them as our own or try to think for ourselves. Either way, Emerson could not have phrased it any better. Modern society values individuals of the highest caliber in the fields of athletics, art, and intellect, but also forces is to be passive in our thinking instead of speaking our minds and furthering our own scholastic experiences as well as the ones of those around us. Moses, Plato, and Milton are revered for their unconventional thinking because they were brave enough to speak up (Emerson 1). Because of their courage, they are recognized as remarkably influential leaders in their respective fields, but it is nothing that the common man cannot do. The people who belittle the personal intuition of their peers just because it is different than theirs and, instead, choose to rely on others opinions lack the inventive power necessary for bold individualism. Their absence of conviction results not in different ideas, but in the acceptance of the same old, boring ideas that their peers may have initially intuited. • 33. What Is The Significance Of The French Revolutionary And... The period between 20th April 1792, when after prolonged debates the deputies of the French National Assembly finally declared war on the Habsburgs of Austria and 18th June 1815, marking Napoleon Bonaparte s defeat at Waterloo, was characterised by almost constant warfare, save for the brief peace of Amiens (March 1802 May 1803). In fact, such was the extent of these wars which spanned a little over two decades that until 1914, the British referred to them as the Great War .1 Of late, these wars have been an object of much contention and have come under the microscope to assist scholars in fully appreciating their significance in the transformation of European warfare. Even today, scholars and historians alike, remain divided over just how substantial a role the French Revolutionary and Napoleonic wars played in altering the nature of wars after 1792. Without disregarding either side, Roger Chickering has identified two master narratives which do a remarkable job of explaining this period s importance, albeit in two extremely dissimilar ways.2 According to Chickering, the first narrative, a notion hypothesized by Michael Howard and further developed by Geoffrey Parker, holds that the French Revolutionary and Napoleonic wars were merely a continuation and intensification of the tactical and technological changes gunpowder, musketry and artillery that occurred in the sixteenth and seventeenth centuries, which in turn paved the way for the colossal standing armies ... It is a polar area that consists of the Arctic Ocean, adjacent seas and parts of different European and North American countries: Canada, the United States, Russia, Sweden, Denmark, Norway, etc. The Artic holds a unique ecosystem and very cold temperatures; however, some indigenous peoples have adapted quite well to these extreme conditions. Its flora consists mostly of mosses and lichens that grow so close to the ground that form tundra. The fauna is characterized by different species of herbivores like arctic hares, lemmings, etc. There are also predators like the snowy owl, the arctic fox and the grizzly bear, among many other animals, especially marine species. There are places that can actually reach temperatures below 40°C, as in the case of the Canadian Arctic, specifically in the northwest and in the Ellesmere Island. Daily temperature variations are less common in the High Arctic during winter because of the lack of daylight. Clear days, which are more common during winter, are usually colder than cloudy ones. Nevertheless, it is important to mention the effects global warming has had on the Artic. Among these effects, we can mention the rising temperatures that result in the loss of sea ice and the melting of the ice sheet. Also, the negative impact it has on tundra vegetation s composition that as a consequence causes the loss of the Arctic s fauna s ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 39. Public Education In The Film Waiting For Superman There is an evident issue with the public schooling system in America today. Throughout the entire country, kids are the victims of schools that fail to gift them with the knowledge that they need to excel past high school. In lower class areas of the country, students are destined to become dropouts because their education simply does not provide them a way out. In the film, Waiting for Superman, director Davis Guggenheim claims that schools are failing to meet beneficial education standards for all students. Due to their demographic, children in lower class areas of the country do not have access to the same educational opportunities that wealthier families receive. Throughout the film, Guggenheim s use of music and pacing creates a powerful feeling of sympathy in the audience towards the children that are not privileged to a better education because of their economic status. By utilizing these devices, the film ultimately hopes to build on the audience s sympathy in order to possibly ignite a change for the public education system in the United States. There are a variety of ways in which music is used throughout this film, but the use of sad music and silence are the two most important in terms of building a strong emotional appeal. By implementing these styles of music, the film illustrates the emotional frustration within lower class students and parents who are simply looking to find a beneficial education for their children. Melancholy music serves as an ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
