Essay On Misunderstood In The Metamorpoda
Outsiders: Misjudged or Misunderstood? What does being outsider mean? Does it mean being left out
of being different? People have often felt like an outsider at one point in their life, and wonder why.
Are outsiders misjudged or misunderstood? These two terms meet at a crossroads, and are commonly
misinterpreted. Misjudging someone is when you make a solid assumption or conclusion about them,
whether it be on their looks our how they act. Being misunderstood is when someone interprets you
for someone you are not. Based on both of these definitions, outsiders are simply misjudged. We can
see examples of outsiders being misjudged both in literature and in modern day society. The
Metamorphosis , a short story written by Franz Kafka, tells ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

Jordan, who was unarmed, was sitting in the front passenger s seat, with four other unarmed teens,
including Jordan s brother, in the car. Roy Oliver shot at the car with a rifle. A bullet broke through the
front passenger s window and hit Jordan. Shortly after, he was rushed to a hospital, where he died
from gunshot injuries. This story is one of many that has happened just in 2017. A total of 6 million
african americans were killed by police officers in the year 2016. One possible explanation for the
racial disparities is that police tend to patrol high crime neighborhoods, which are disproportionately
black. That means they are going to be generally more likely to initiate a policing action, from traffic
stops to more serious arrests, against a black person who lives in these areas. This goes to show how
misjudged most of modern day society is. More and more people are judged on their appearance or in
this situation, where they live. However, one could argue that outsiders are just misunderstood. For
example, referring back to the last paragraph, the african american culture is misunderstood because
of a stereotype they have always had hanging over their shoulders. Or even back to The
Metamorphosis , Gregor was misunderstood because his family at first became blind and relied on
Gregor for the support of Welfare, but they soon realized that Gregor was the happiness of the family.
Outsiders could also be misunderstood because some people chose to be outsiders

Differences in Dialect when Allowing Students Free-reign...
When talking with friends or people that you re just comfortable with in general, most of the time you
may say some things you wouldn t dare say in front of a parent or teacher. However, for this
assignment we had the chance to have free reign over the topic, how we expressed ourselves and the
extent that it was taken. The conversation flowed like running water and was never stagnant. We were
able to have lengthy discussions about real issues that mattered to us, and not talk about something
from a tired school curriculum. Dialect definitely varies depending on the person, or the group for that
matter. Most teenager s dialect changes according to their environment. To increase their probability
of getting a job they may speak more academically or to be understood by their friends they may
speak more in their own personal vernacular with prominent usage of slang words. Differences in
dialect can be seen in the way people react when they talk to each other, their choice of words, their
subject topic, and how comfortable they are when speaking to the other people in the conversation. In
the transcript of the recording I noticed that there weren t any discourse markers. However, I also
noticed that the conversation was very invigorating, and thought provoking without them. To revert
back to a previously discussed topic, a speaker would simply voice their opinion on it. Discourse
markers may not have been used in the transcript but they may have been present in other parts of

Visual Qualitative Research Paper
According to Shannon, (2013) qualitative research is guided by philosophical and personal
assumptions as well as informational and theoretical frameworks that enlighten the research and
writing processes. The goal is to understand human experiences from the perspective of those who
experience them, methods are characterized by use of inductive logic, subjectivity, lack of reliance on
statistical analysis and dependence on personal interviews or other less structured methods of data
collection. For this reason, a visual qualitative method of inquiry known as photovoice will be used to
examine women s social service needs in relation to domestic violence.
Domestic violence denotes acts of violence that occur between people who have, or have had, ... Show

Such problems impede their recovery and ability to regain control over their lives (Phillips Park,
2006). This results because domestic violence directly affects women s financial security in key areas
of life: debts, bills, accommodation, legal issues, health, transport, migration, employment, social
security and child support (Arney Scott, 2010). In this regard women need financial support to bridge
the financial gap so that they become self sufficient. In addition, Arney Scott (2010) state that
domestic violence is traumatizing and counselling services should be availed for social and emotional
support.
It is against the mentioned background of domestic violence that the author chose to use photovoice as
a visual and innovative method so as to assess women s social service needs. Photovoice is a research
and action method that, according to Wang (1999), enables individuals to identify, represent and
develop their community through a specific photographic technique. The method allows researchers to
access voices of silenced populations, thus shedding light to what has been happening behind closed
doors, and kept silent for women who have experienced domestic violence (Wang Burris,

Angelina Grimke Research Paper
Angelina and Sarah Grimke were legends in their lifetime. The sister made history, speaking to mixed
crowds of men and women. They advocated some of the most powerful anti slavery paths, and the
rights to a women s public role. Their movement was not only aimed to end slavery, not to help racial
discrimination throughout the United States. These ideas made them more sincere than many other
reformers who advocated to end to slavery. Other advocates did not believe in equality for freedom
and women. The Grimke sisters were also one of the first abolitionist to recognize the importance of
women s rights, while speaking and writing about the cause of female equality. Angelina and Sarah

Review Of The Book Into The Wild By Jon Krakauer
Life is an adventure, life is a journey through a time that is only experienced once. Most people are
too afraid to live life as an adventure or as a journey that would never be forgotten. In the incredible
story Into the wild told by Jon Krakauer a young man named Chris McCandless leaves everything
behind for one goal, to live life as an adventure. Chris did not want to live the way society wanted him
live. Through his journey he meets many new people and ends up eating the wrong plant which takes
is life. Chris wanted to show society that he could survive without the help of people and materialistic
things, so he went into the wild for a brave and adventurous journey to fulfill his lifelong dream.
Chris was not living life the way he wanted. Chris eventually became sick of being told how to live
his life. So he abandoned his family and all of his belongings and set out to make his life a journey.
Shortly after Chris had left on his journey he wrote in his journal that said “‘I wanted movement and

NCAA Recruiting Analysis
College athletics have become huge business. Therefore, coaches are under pressure to sign the best
recruits. Jim Harbaugh went so far as having a sleepover at a recruit s house (Schwartz, 2016).
According to Remillard (2014), Texas A M used a helicopter in their recruiting efforts (p. 7). These
two examples are within the NCAA recruiting rules. However, many programs violate the rules every
year to gain an advantage in recruiting. Unfortunately, many programs, like Louisville, use sex or
money to entice athletes to come to their program (ESPN, 2015).
Some programs are even using their uniforms as a recruiting tool (Crabtree, 2013). Our post literate
culture is becoming more focused on images and quick messages. Recruiters must continue to evolve
their recruiting techniques in order to convince the best recruits to come to their program. In a
competitive field, coaches will use every advantage they can to land the top recruits. ... Show more

According to an ESPN pole, academics ranked as the most important factor for recruits (Crabtree,

the association s belief in student athletes as students first is a foundational principle ( Frequently ,
2015). Although, the NCAA s claim may be empty, as collegiate coaches, it is important to prioritize
academics even if no one else is doing it. It is the responsibility of the athletic director and coaching
staff to stress

Rap Music And Its Effects On Society
Who some call the call the godfather of rap, Eazy E, once said, Who gave it that title, gangsta rap? It s
reality rap. It s about what s really going on. There has been a great injustice done to the form of
expression called rap. In essence rap is just lyrics over a basic beat or rhythm. Many members of
society today assume that rap is a dangerous and violent influence, however what they seem to be
ignorant of is the fact that rap music is actually beneficial. The majority of the world we live in today
has unjustly classified rap as a barbaric form of music, unfit for any decent human to listen to, but the
reality of the situation is, that people simply cannot accept the culture known as rap into society.
Nowadays, rappers such as Kanye, Soulja Boi, and Wiz Khalifa are receiving much criticism about the
way they portray their hoodlum lifestyle or the way they encourage violence through their music,
when in actuality they are venting about the unfair circumstances society has forced them into.
Listening to rap music and it s positive vibes is in fact beneficial based on evidence which shows that
consumption of rap music not only assists the listener in several ways, but also aids the rapper. The
form of music that we know as rap is heavily influenced by earlier African American music forms.
Modern day rap, originates from it s previous form of gangsta rap. Gangsta rap is an extremely
controversial form of music, even to this day, people argue about how safe it is

Christianity In Beowulf
Beowulf is an exciting tale about a Scandinavian man named Beowulf, who saves the Danes from an
unconquerable monster called Grendel. It is not known who the author of Beowulf. It is theorized that
the book had more than one author over a period of time. Another theory is that Beowulf only had one
author and other writers changed or added content to the story. Beowulf has many Christian aspects.
God is brought up many times throughout the book. The different monsters also represent the different
sins that humans commit almost daily. Grendel is envy and anger, Grendel s mother is feuding, and the
dragon is greed and hoarding. Beowulf was written in the time when England was being converted to
Christianity from paganism. Because of this, there are doubts that the authors of Beowulf knew about
God. Throughout the book, there are many indications that the author(s) of Beowulf knew about God s
existence. While it is doubted, they still praised God, acknowledged that he ... Show more content on

Beowulf defeated Grendel, Hrothgar was shown Grendel s talon as proof. The king gazed upward and

with God s assistance. When Grendel s mother attacked the Danes after her son was killed, Hrothgar

who died in the attack. Reassured, Hrothgar praised God for Beowulf s courage and his inspiring

comparative advantage in the production of cloth and steel, where it is relatively the most efficient.
We also say that Foreign has a comparative advantage in the production of cloth, where it is least
disadvantaged compared to Foreign. Although Home has an absolute cost advantage for both sectors
(Brakman p65). However put Labour in consideration, Home only have an advantage over Foreign in
the steel sector; while Foreign has a comparative advantage in production of cloth (where it is least

steel in term of cloth is: 5/10 or 0.5 In Foreign the relative price of cloth in term of steel is: 50/50: 1
The relative price of steel in term of cloth is also: 50/50: 1 The relative price unit of both products in
both countries is also called the opportunity costs. b. Draw the production possibility curve for each

Superheroes, Despite Their Different Powers, All Possess
Superheroes, despite their different powers, all possess similar characteristics that define them, such as
courage, honesty, selflessness, and the maintenance of strong morals. Similarly, King Lear, the tragic
hero in William Shakespeare s play, King Lear, possesses characteristics that define him as a tragic
hero, as stated by Aristotle in Poetics via A.C. Bradley s The Shakespearean Tragic Hero. King Lear is
a character of high social status, and he possesses exceptional qualities that make him a well respected
king; however, throughout the play s events, he suffers tremendously in an unusual manner. In
addition, Lear, despite being a good character with good intentions, possesses a tragic flaw his pride
which ultimately blinds him ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
However, as the play progresses, his suffering that is caused by the impulsive decision to divide his
kingdom is clearly seen. This suffering is illustrated through the loss of his sanity, ultimately due to
the sudden loss of his power, his deteriorating relationships with his daughters, and the inability to
prevent these negative outcomes. Upon realizing his mistake of solely letting Regan and Goneril
inherit his kingdom, Lear is ashamed that [his daughters have the] power to shake [his] manhood
(I.iv.299 301). His daughters, who are women and are therefore considered to be less important and
powerful in his society, have taken control of Lear s power and life, and it is embarrassing to him as
he is used to receiving constant honour, pride, and glory as the King. This illustrates the start of him
losing his sanity, and soon, Lear is seen pleading to the gods to keep [him] in temper and to not [let
him] be mad, as he is stripped away from all that is his (I.v.43 44). As King Lear pleads for help to
maintain his sanity, his sufferings are clearly illustrated as the change in his character is evident; a
change from a virtuous, powerful king, to a mentally unstable, powerless, and embarrassed beggar like
character. This form of suffering is unusual because a sudden but significant loss of power is rare,
especially for someone as powerful and influential as a King. All the sudden negative

Portrayal of Women in Music Videos
The tarnished masterpiece of the present century
Sure God created man before woman. But then you always make a rough draft before the final
masterpiece. Author unknown. It is indeed hard to imagine or comprehend such a quote in a society
where women are often portrayed as sex symbols and sex objects. Media is one of the major sources
for gender depictions in our society and it has played a major role in placing unfathomable gender
roles on women in regards to how they are to behave, and address themselves within a society. The
gender depictions of women in our society are truly very saddening and mind blowing!
Music is one of the most influencing media within our time and generation, especially Rap and hip

The consequences of these constant beat down on women are becoming very real in our society. For
instance, a 12 year old girl has reported that she was raped by a group of 14 year old boys at a
recreational center and it was reported just this morning. I believe that media is very influential in
these sorts of behavior from teenage boys. Media encourages these things through vulgar music,
degrading advertisements, and it promotes violence and abuse towards women and now, even little
girls.
Rap music in general has failed miserably in portraying the true worth of a woman. Women have a
character that men cannot replace in any other way. Behind every great man, there is a great woman,
and I strongly believe this because it is very applicable in my life as well. I can say that my mother
plays an important role in my life, and she stood behind my success till now. Being an international
student in this country takes a lot of courage, but the support and encouragement from my mother has
helped me every step of the way. She is able to do things that a man cannot do; to be the nurturing,
caring, patient, loving, and protective woman she can be to her children and her family.
A woman should not be used as a sexual object or a sex symbol because that wasn t the purpose of her
creation. She was called to be a mother, a sister, a daughter. I am very saddened by the way things
have turned out in our society pertaining to

Socialist Republics). The USSR was the only real controlling party of Russia from 1917 99. Because
of the anti communist tension of the US, the US did not recognize the legitimacy of the USSR until
1934. So even though the US fought alongside USSR in WWII, there was always a sort of mistrust.
The US has changed since 1945. Firstly, the US foreign policy changed. Before 1945 the US practiced
isolationism, which let them believe whatever they wanted but not actually act. After WWII, the US
became the world s policeman. WWII did not drain the US economy, in fact it improved it
significantly, whereas other countries fell, it left a place up on top for the US. So the US became a
world power and an interventionist nation, throwing isolationism right out the door; but it does not
stop there. The US is also determined to stop the spread of communism, and starting in 1993 the war
on terrorism. And as soon as WWII ends the Cold War starts with the USSR.
2. One of the most important presidents during the Cold War was Harry S. Truman. He set forth the
notion of containment. Containment is where the US tried to contain communism in every country
they could. A great fear was that of the domino effect, the

Gender Roles In Frederick Douglass
The endeavor to escape slavery was an idea that pondered in the minds of slaves. While slavery
influenced both genders emotionally, physically, and educationally, ultimately only the male gender
was able to comprehend what it would be like to be able to flee slavery. Men took charge and became
independent being able to leave slavery, whereas the women were more dependent as wives and
mothers, which caused them to not be able to getaway. Douglass and Jacobs works proved this to be
true as the reader sees their experiences as a slave fluctuate based on their gender. Through Douglass
encounters as a slave we see how important it is for a male to participate in physical labor and then
through Jacobs story, one is able to see how women were used mostly by their masters sexually. Once
Abolition started everyone thought it would better the lives of men and women, but boy were they
mistaken. In Incidents in the Life of a Slave Girl and Narrative of the Life of Frederick Douglass, the
authors vary in the way that the men are able to escape slavery easier than woman because of the
expectations of gender roles during the time and that is what shaped these two works. Throughout
Douglass narrative of his life, he is able to have this image that one day he will no longer be controlled
by a master and no longer be a slave and is something Linda in Incidents in the Life of a Slave Girl,
cannot ever see because her family is restricting her from this idea. Douglass has no parents or

The Battle Of Algiers ( A Reenactment Of Algeria s Fight...
An imperative aspect of art is that it is open to interpretation and analysis. If the piece of art is
significant, it will be thought or emotion provoking and uncensored. It is not the role of art take
cautious steps in an attempt to leave its audience unoffended, but rather to embrace diversity of
thought and creativity to portray untainted ideas. Filmmaking being a form of art follows the same
guidelines and thus shapes society through its objectionable and often jarring subject matter. The
Battle of Algiers (a reenactment of Algeria s fight for independence from France from 1954 to 1957)
was a politically motivated piece that was banned in France upon its debut. The lifelike images of war,

Without the brutal violence in American History X we would not be able to take an emotional journey
of discovering a lost man as he regains his purpose after killing two people under the influence of a
neo Nazi gang. The hatred towards everyone as experienced in Taxi Driver is essential to
understanding the raging emotions flowing through Travis s mind as he goes on a killing spree. On the
opposite end of the spectrum, without the provocative homosexual romance in Brokeback Mountain,
the passionate strain of keeping a forbidden love covert would not be felt. Since homosexuality had
not been greatly explored in film this way before, Brokeback Mountain generated a confusion of
empathy for a love that society would not allow, as well as for those that were betrayed by it. The
audience is at war for and against both sides (the lovers and those that do not want the lovers together)
in some aspect throughout the movie and the controversy carried into real life. According to the Los
Angeles Times, people that identified with the cowboy role portrayed by the two main characters were
deeply offended by the homosexual association, which they believed tarnished their cowboy image.
The article also says the film s amorous relationship angered homophobic people across the nation,
but it also, contrarily, made others more empathetic towards members of the gay community s feelings
and desires (Brady). The socially

Two way radio transmitter receivers, which are called readers, send a signal to the tag and receive a
response. There are two types of tags; one is known as active and the other, passive. Active tags have
their own power source, and on board memory which sends its ID signal periodically. Passive tags are
not self powered, which gets and is activated only in the presence of RFID reader. Electromagnetic
fields are used in order to transmit data from the RFID chip.
RFID has been employed in various industries to keep tracking of their products. For example they
can be installed in an automobile industry to keep track on the production throughout assembly.
Similarly, RFID tags are now being used in the pharmaceuticals industry to keep track of medicinal
items in warehouses and throughout the supply chain. The supply chain can often be complex in
nature, with several data points as it relates to item movement from the original manufacturer to its
final destination, the customer.
There have been many proven situations where RFID has been a crucial player in this area. Supply
chain tracking would have to include all the processes involved from manufacturer to customer
(manufacturing, transportation and distribution) in order to be effective. The introduction of RFID in
supply chain management will not only replace barcodes but also ensure the right goods are available
in the right place with no discrepancies. In the fast paced world of

Exploring the Main Concepts of Advertising
How many of you listened to the radio, watched television, or glanced at a magazine before school
this morning? Whether you realized it or not the minute you pressed the power button or flipped the
cover page you were exposed to some sort of advertisement. Defined as any paid form of
communication by an identified sponsor, advertising dominates a huge part of our daily lives. Living
in such a consumer driven economy means that we deal with subliminal and up front messages
pushing us to buy, buy, buy , countless times throughout our day. Most of these messages are sent by
identified sponsors including major corporations like Wal Mart, as well as smaller run businesses. No
matter the size, all modern day businesses employ workers to ... Show more content on

The success of these advertisements must be measured. Marketers often conduct surveys and
questionnaires to pull information about their products from the marketplace. Information gathered
like this for a specific purpose is known as primary research. Marketers can draw a lot of valuable
knowledge from primary research. Such as images and ideas consumers associate with certain brands,
a concept known as brand image. Primary research also evaluates levels consumer satisfaction.
Following a product purchase, the buyer experience either satisfaction with their decision or cognitive
dissonance, when one regrets their recent purchase. This regret often corresponds with the amount of
involvement and thought put into a purchase. As a consumer, you most likely think less about buying
a bag of Cheetos versus buying a new IPod. When it comes to Cheetos you know what you re getting,
not much variation involved. However, an iPod offers multiple opportunities for customization and
upgrades that the consumer must carefully consider relative to the price they are willing to pay. In this
sense, buying Cheetos requires far less consumer purchase involvement then the purchase of a new
iPod. All of these factors contribute to the overall satisfaction associated with a product. The results of
conducted primary research help marketers decipher elements of their advertising strategy that need
tweaking. Essentially, the advertising

Real Estate Easement Essay
In previous articles, we ve discussed easements or right of ways and how they are used. Generally
speaking, an easement or right of way grants one person or entity the right to use another person or
entity s property. As is obvious, this can come with a number of complications; particularly if the
situation is approached without the necessary information and knowledge regarding how to handle the
situation. So previous articles about how to handle an easement already in place are important, but that
s not the only important discussion when it comes to easements in southern California real estate.
What do you do when you need to create an easement?
Top 5 Methods of Creating Real Estate Easements:
1. Written Agreement Between the Two Parties ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Easement by Necessity Through Court Order In some instances, the court can designate an easement
out of necessity. For instance, if a piece of property exists that has no access to the public roadway
because it is surrounded by properties owned by others, they must be allowed to exit/enter their own
property.
3. A Deed Conveying Property Designating an Easement This often occurs when a landowner wants to
sell a portion of a larger piece of land. For instance, a land owner could sell the back 20 acres of their
50 acre piece of land. In order for the new owner to access public roadways from their land, an
easement would be created in the deed and a portion of the front acreage (still held by the original
owner) would be designated to be used for access.
4. Through Condemnation for the Public Good Local, state or federal government can condemn a
property or a portion of a property under eminent domain or order to utilize the land for a public
project as long as it is deemed as for the public good. In this instance, the current owner of the land
will often have dissenting views as to what is actually for the public good. In many cases, this type of
easement could occur in order for the completion of new highways,

Examples Of Female Oppression In The Yellow Wallpaper
Female Oppression in The Yellow Wallpaper Charlotte Perkins Gillman s The Yellow Wallpaper
approaches some often overlooked topics in literature including how men and women interact
differently when it comes to serious situations such as how to help someone who is greatly suffering
from a mental affliction. The narrator of the text is Jane, and her husband John is incidentally making
her mental illness worse while he is in fact trying to help her get better. John is not a bad person. He
truly loves his wife and believes he is helping her. He is a doctor so it is understandable that he would
dismiss his wife s opinions and do what he assumes is best for her. John represents the unintentional

Jane looks at him and declares, I ve got out at last in spite of you and Jane! And I ve pulled off most of
the paper, so you can t put me back! (86). At this point John fainted and Jane had to creep over him
(86). John becomes exactly what he is trying to prevent his wife from coming. He viewed Jane s
femininity as a weakness and tried to do everything in his power to make sure she was rested and did
not push herself too hard. Yet, John was the one who fainted, which is usually considered a
predominantly feminine trait. His fainting demonstrates the fragility of masculinity. John ends up
representing his own hidden femininity when he faints. It is often considered the job of the man of the
family to be strong and to protect the weaker sex. John s fainting ends up proving that both men and
women can experience high levels of distress when something serious happens. John treats Jane like
she is fragile and breakable, but it seems like he is just as fragile and breakable, if not more so. Even
though John ignores Jane when she tells him what she thinks would be better for herself John is also
denying himself the ability to show compassion to his struggling wife. By treating his wife like she is
unable to acknowledge her own needs John becomes shocked when Jane descends into madness. If he

Florence Nightingale Had A Big Impact On The Math World
Florence Nightingale had a big impact on the math world. We still use what she contributed today in
the medical field and in the classroom. She not only made an impact in the math world but also for
women s rights and in the medical field during the Crimean War. Florence had an interesting early life,
from begging her parents to study math to choosing to become a nurse. She is an example of how you
should never give up on your dreams and how you should not let other people tell you what you can
and cannot do. Florence was born on May 12th, 1820 in Florence Italy, which is where she got her
name. Her parents were William Edward Nightingale and Frances Nightingale Nee Smith. She had a
sister named Frances Parthenope, also named after the place in which she was born. They were an
upper class British family at the Vita Colombaia. They had three homes one called Embley,
Hampshire, and Lea Hurst. In 1838 Florence met Mary Clarky, Clarkey was a stimulating hostess who
did not care about what she looked like. Clarkey had no respect for upper British women. She mostly
spent her time around male intellectuals as opposed to the company of women. Clarkey demonstrated
that women could be equal to men. This is an idea that Florence s mother and sister did not support.
Clarkey and Florence became close friends. In 1840 Florence begged her parents to let her study
mathematics. Her mother did not support her wishes and instead wanted her to marry and for her to
perform home duties. Her

Human Relationships in Nella Larsen s Passing
Works Cited Not Included
The Harlem Renaissance was a turning point for many African Americans. A vast amount of literature
was created specifically for this group during this era. For the first time, African Americans were
being told that it was okay to be proud of who they were. This new consciousness and self awareness
was prominent in many works of literature, but several writers began exploring the darker side of this
movement with literature that concentrated on the negative aspects of race relations in America. Nella
Larsen s novel Passing concentrates on this theme with the story of Clare, a tragic mulatto who passes
as a white person. Not only is Passing representative of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Just because Clare feels no permanent allegiance to either the black or white worlds or any of the
classic anguish of the tragic mulatto does not mean that she is not a tragic mulatto (Washington 48). In
her own way, Clare Kendry belongs with that group of tragic mulattos?emerging as an individual, not
as a stereotype (Davis 98). Her desire to return to her own race on her own terms illustrates her
individuality in the face of a stereotypical tragic mulatto. Clare may not be the typical tragic mulatto,
but her actions prove that she belongs in this group of literary figures.
Clare Kendry passes in order to secure a more stable life. Her desire to do this begins when she is
young, after her African American father dies and she is left with her white aunts. While there, Clare
begins to want more than what she has as an African American. She used to go over to the south side,
and used to almost hate all [African Americans]. [They] had all the things she wanted and never had
had. It made [her] all the more determined to get them (Larsen 159). In order to get what she wants
Clare marries a white man, John Bellew, under the pretense that she is white. Clare is then required to
deny everything about her past her girlhood, her family, her language, places with memories, folk
customs, folk rhymes, and the entire long line of people that have

Another study, similar to the design research project, showed how revision and self regulation can
essentially improve a student s writing. This study included 17 students taking a 13 week course on
Women and Leadership at Brescia University College at Western University in Ontario, Canada.
Students received detailing assignment instructions and a grading rubric covering writing, information
gathering and presentation, and quality of ideas (Feltham and Sharen, 114). The students received six
hours of classroom instruction, which consisted of: library research, critical thinking, writing, giving
and receiving feedback, and revision strategies. To determine whether the attitudes, beliefs, or

Certain aspects of college life, such as unstructured time, the widespread availability of alcohol,
inconsistent enforcement of underage drinking laws, and limited interactions with parents and other
adults, can create an atmosphere where students lose sight of their academic career and ultimately
their self regulation ( College Drinking ). Often times, student find themselves putting off their work
simply because the due date is days, weeks, or even months from now. This ultimately leads to anxiety
and stress as the time comes closer and students realize that none of their work is done. The solution
to this is to improve the individual s self regulation and motivate them by making them accountable
for their writing. By creating a timeline or set of short dates in which items are due, students are more
likely to follow through with their work and complete it in a timely manner, as displayed with Feltham
and Sharen s study. Also, by incorporating social media, a large distraction for this, and future,
generations such as weblogs, students are able to perform in an environment they are more
comfortable and interested in, which inspires and motivates them to write more (as displayed in the
Bangkok University and Baggetun and Watson studies). Finally, by peer work and communication,

Meaning the Medium Is the Message
What is the Meaning of The Medium is the Message? by Mark Federman Former Chief Strategist
McLuhan Program in Culture and Technology a culture like ours, long accustomed to splitting and
dividing all things as a means of control, it is sometimes a bit of a shock to be reminded that, in
operational and practical fact, the medium is the message. This is merely to say that the personal and
social consequences of any medium that is, of any extension of ourselves result from the new scale
that is introduced into our affairs by each extension of ourselves, or by any new technology.
(McLuhan, 1964, p. 7) Thus begins the classic work of Marshall McLuhan, Understanding Media, in
which he introduced the world to his enigmatic paradox, The ... Show more content on

In the case of a specific theatrical production, its message may be a change in attitude or action on the
part of the audience that results from the medium of the play itself, which is quite distinct from the
medium of theatrical production in general. Similarly, the message of a newscast are not the news
stories themselves, but a change in the public attitude towards crime, or the creation of a climate of
fear. A McLuhan message always tells us to look beyond the obvious and seek the nonobvious
changes or effects that are enabled, enhanced, accelerated or extended by the new thing. McLuhan
defines medium for us as well. Right at the beginning of Understanding Media, he tells us that a
medium is any extension of ourselves. Classically, he suggests that a hammer extends our arm and that
the wheel extends our legs and feet. Each enables us to do more than our bodies could do on their
own. Similarly, the medium of language extends our thoughts from within our mind out to others.
Indeed, since our thoughts are the result of our individual sensory experience, speech is an outering of
our senses we could consider it as a form of reversing senses whereas usually our senses bring the
world into our minds, speech takes our sensorially shaped minds out to the world. But McLuhan
always thought of a medium in the sense of a growing medium,

The Bible is not the basis of missions; missions are the basis of the Bible. God s desire for a

believers say they have with God should be a powerful motivation for them to do global mission so
that His desire for a relationship with all peoples can become a reality. God s election of Abraham and

Contextualization affects the way theology is expressed. During the 19th and 20th centuries the
theological center of Protestantism seemed to be in North America and Europe, with Germany being
the nexus or center for theological scholarship. However, the issues German theologians talk about are
not always the issues being wrestled with in other parts of the world. In this regard Korean Bong Bin
Rho has written: Western evangelical theology the shift of Christianity s numerical center of gravity
southward and away from Euro America has unleashed what Harvey Cox called a tidal wave of
religious change. 19 One change has to do with control. For the last few centuries, Westerners have
dominated the Church s theological thinking, strategic planning, and missionary sending in ways that
made believers in the West start thinking of them as the mother church. Now that Westerners are a
minority in the global church, some are worried that leaders from other parts of the world will make
changes in the beliefs and practices of their beloved churches and

  • 2. Essay On Misunderstood In The Metamorpoda Outsiders: Misjudged or Misunderstood? What does being outsider mean? Does it mean being left out of being different? People have often felt like an outsider at one point in their life, and wonder why. Are outsiders misjudged or misunderstood? These two terms meet at a crossroads, and are commonly misinterpreted. Misjudging someone is when you make a solid assumption or conclusion about them, whether it be on their looks our how they act. Being misunderstood is when someone interprets you for someone you are not. Based on both of these definitions, outsiders are simply misjudged. We can see examples of outsiders being misjudged both in literature and in modern day society. The Metamorphosis , a short story written by Franz Kafka, tells ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Jordan, who was unarmed, was sitting in the front passenger s seat, with four other unarmed teens, including Jordan s brother, in the car. Roy Oliver shot at the car with a rifle. A bullet broke through the front passenger s window and hit Jordan. Shortly after, he was rushed to a hospital, where he died from gunshot injuries. This story is one of many that has happened just in 2017. A total of 6 million african americans were killed by police officers in the year 2016. One possible explanation for the racial disparities is that police tend to patrol high crime neighborhoods, which are disproportionately black. That means they are going to be generally more likely to initiate a policing action, from traffic stops to more serious arrests, against a black person who lives in these areas. This goes to show how misjudged most of modern day society is. More and more people are judged on their appearance or in this situation, where they live. However, one could argue that outsiders are just misunderstood. For example, referring back to the last paragraph, the african american culture is misunderstood because of a stereotype they have always had hanging over their shoulders. Or even back to The Metamorphosis , Gregor was misunderstood because his family at first became blind and relied on Gregor for the support of Welfare, but they soon realized that Gregor was the happiness of the family. Outsiders could also be misunderstood because some people chose to be outsiders ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Differences in Dialect when Allowing Students Free-reign... When talking with friends or people that you re just comfortable with in general, most of the time you may say some things you wouldn t dare say in front of a parent or teacher. However, for this assignment we had the chance to have free reign over the topic, how we expressed ourselves and the extent that it was taken. The conversation flowed like running water and was never stagnant. We were able to have lengthy discussions about real issues that mattered to us, and not talk about something from a tired school curriculum. Dialect definitely varies depending on the person, or the group for that matter. Most teenager s dialect changes according to their environment. To increase their probability of getting a job they may speak more academically or to be understood by their friends they may speak more in their own personal vernacular with prominent usage of slang words. Differences in dialect can be seen in the way people react when they talk to each other, their choice of words, their subject topic, and how comfortable they are when speaking to the other people in the conversation. In the transcript of the recording I noticed that there weren t any discourse markers. However, I also noticed that the conversation was very invigorating, and thought provoking without them. To revert back to a previously discussed topic, a speaker would simply voice their opinion on it. Discourse markers may not have been used in the transcript but they may have been present in other parts of ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Visual Qualitative Research Paper According to Shannon, (2013) qualitative research is guided by philosophical and personal assumptions as well as informational and theoretical frameworks that enlighten the research and writing processes. The goal is to understand human experiences from the perspective of those who experience them, methods are characterized by use of inductive logic, subjectivity, lack of reliance on statistical analysis and dependence on personal interviews or other less structured methods of data collection. For this reason, a visual qualitative method of inquiry known as photovoice will be used to examine women s social service needs in relation to domestic violence. Such problems impede their recovery and ability to regain control over their lives (Phillips Park, 2006). This results because domestic violence directly affects women s financial security in key areas of life: debts, bills, accommodation, legal issues, health, transport, migration, employment, social security and child support (Arney Scott, 2010). In this regard women need financial support to bridge the financial gap so that they become self sufficient. In addition, Arney Scott (2010) state that domestic violence is traumatizing and counselling services should be availed for social and emotional support. It is against the mentioned background of domestic violence that the author chose to use photovoice as a visual and innovative method so as to assess women s social service needs. Photovoice is a research and action method that, according to Wang (1999), enables individuals to identify, represent and develop their community through a specific photographic technique. The method allows researchers to access voices of silenced populations, thus shedding light to what has been happening behind closed doors, and kept silent for women who have experienced domestic violence (Wang Burris, ... These ideas made them more sincere than many other reformers who advocated to end to slavery. Other advocates did not believe in equality for freedom and women. There has been a great injustice done to the form of expression called rap. In essence rap is just lyrics over a basic beat or rhythm. Many members of society today assume that rap is a dangerous and violent influence, however what they seem to be ignorant of is the fact that rap music is actually beneficial. The majority of the world we live in today has unjustly classified rap as a barbaric form of music, unfit for any decent human to listen to, but the reality of the situation is, that people simply cannot accept the culture known as rap into society. Nowadays, rappers such as Kanye, Soulja Boi, and Wiz Khalifa are receiving much criticism about the way they portray their hoodlum lifestyle or the way they encourage violence through their music, when in actuality they are venting about the unfair circumstances society has forced them into. Upon realizing his mistake of solely letting Regan and Goneril inherit his kingdom, Lear is ashamed that [his daughters have the] power to shake [his] manhood (I.iv.299 301). His daughters, who are women and are therefore considered to be less important and powerful in his society, have taken control of Lear s power and life, and it is embarrassing to him as he is used to receiving constant honour, pride, and glory as the King. • 26. Examples Of Female Oppression In The Yellow Wallpaper Female Oppression in The Yellow Wallpaper Charlotte Perkins Gillman s The Yellow Wallpaper approaches some often overlooked topics in literature including how men and women interact differently when it comes to serious situations such as how to help someone who is greatly suffering from a mental affliction. The narrator of the text is Jane, and her husband John is incidentally making her mental illness worse while he is in fact trying to help her get better. John is not a bad person. He truly loves his wife and believes he is helping her. He is a doctor so it is understandable that he would dismiss his wife s opinions and do what he assumes is best for her. John represents the unintentional female oppression and male dominance and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Jane looks at him and declares, I ve got out at last in spite of you and Jane! And I ve pulled off most of the paper, so you can t put me back! (86). At this point John fainted and Jane had to creep over him (86). John becomes exactly what he is trying to prevent his wife from coming. He viewed Jane s femininity as a weakness and tried to do everything in his power to make sure she was rested and did not push herself too hard. Yet, John was the one who fainted, which is usually considered a predominantly feminine trait. His fainting demonstrates the fragility of masculinity. John ends up representing his own hidden femininity when he faints. It is often considered the job of the man of the family to be strong and to protect the weaker sex. John s fainting ends up proving that both men and women can experience high levels of distress when something serious happens. John treats Jane like she is fragile and breakable, but it seems like he is just as fragile and breakable, if not more so. Even though John ignores Jane when she tells him what she thinks would be better for herself John is also denying himself the ability to show compassion to his struggling wife. By treating his wife like she is unable to acknowledge her own needs John becomes shocked when Jane descends into madness. If he had only listened ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

We still use what she contributed today in the medical field and in the classroom. She not only made an impact in the math world but also for women s rights and in the medical field during the Crimean War. Florence had an interesting early life, from begging her parents to study math to choosing to become a nurse. She is an example of how you should never give up on your dreams and how you should not let other people tell you what you can and cannot do. Florence was born on May 12th, 1820 in Florence Italy, which is where she got her name. Her parents were William Edward Nightingale and Frances Nightingale Nee Smith. She had a sister named Frances Parthenope, also named after the place in which she was born. They were an upper class British family at the Vita Colombaia. They had three homes one called Embley, Hampshire, and Lea Hurst. In 1838 Florence met Mary Clarky, Clarkey was a stimulating hostess who did not care about what she looked like. Clarkey had no respect for upper British women. She mostly spent her time around male intellectuals as opposed to the company of women. Clarkey demonstrated that women could be equal to men. This is an idea that Florence s mother and sister did not support. Clarkey and Florence became close friends. In 1840 Florence begged her parents to let her study mathematics. Essay on Human Relationships in Nella Larsen s Passing Human Relationships in Nella Larsen s Passing Works Cited Not Included The Harlem Renaissance was a turning point for many African Americans. A vast amount of literature was created specifically for this group during this era. For the first time, African Americans were being told that it was okay to be proud of who they were. This new consciousness and self awareness was prominent in many works of literature, but several writers began exploring the darker side of this movement with literature that concentrated on the negative aspects of race relations in America. Nella Larsen s novel Passing concentrates on this theme with the story of Clare, a tragic mulatto who passes as a white person. Not only is Passing representative of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Just because Clare feels no permanent allegiance to either the black or white worlds or any of the classic anguish of the tragic mulatto does not mean that she is not a tragic mulatto (Washington 48). In her own way, Clare Kendry belongs with that group of tragic mulattos?emerging as an individual, not as a stereotype (Davis 98). Her desire to return to her own race on her own terms illustrates her individuality in the face of a stereotypical tragic mulatto. Clare may not be the typical tragic mulatto, but her actions prove that she belongs in this group of literary figures. Clare Kendry passes in order to secure a more stable life. Her desire to do this begins when she is young, after her African American father dies and she is left with her white aunts. While there, Clare begins to want more than what she has as an African American. She used to go over to the south side, and used to almost hate all [African Americans]. [They] had all the things she wanted and never had had. It made [her] all the more determined to get them (Larsen 159). In order to get what she wants Clare marries a white man, John Bellew, under the pretense that she is white. Meaning the Medium Is the Message What is the Meaning of The Medium is the Message? by Mark Federman Former Chief Strategist McLuhan Program in Culture and Technology a culture like ours, long accustomed to splitting and dividing all things as a means of control, it is sometimes a bit of a shock to be reminded that, in operational and practical fact, the medium is the message. This is merely to say that the personal and social consequences of any medium that is, of any extension of ourselves result from the new scale that is introduced into our affairs by each extension of ourselves, or by any new technology. (McLuhan, 1964, p. 7) Thus begins the classic work of Marshall McLuhan, Understanding Media, in which he introduced the world to his enigmatic paradox, The ... In the case of a specific theatrical production, its message may be a change in attitude or action on the part of the audience that results from the medium of the play itself, which is quite distinct from the medium of theatrical production in general. A McLuhan message always tells us to look beyond the obvious and seek the nonobvious changes or effects that are enabled, enhanced, accelerated or extended by the new thing. McLuhan defines medium for us as well. Right at the beginning of Understanding Media, he tells us that a medium is any extension of ourselves. Classically, he suggests that a hammer extends our arm and that the wheel extends our legs and feet. Each enables us to do more than our bodies could do on their own. Similarly, the medium of language extends our thoughts from within our mind out to others. Indeed, since our thoughts are the result of our individual sensory experience, speech is an outering of our senses we could consider it as a form of reversing senses whereas usually our senses bring the world into our minds, speech takes our sensorially shaped minds out to the world.
