Generational Differences Essay
Generational Differences
Every generation is influenced by its period s economic, political and social events. From the
Great Depression to the civil rights and women s movements to the advent of television and
advanced computer technologies. Thus generational background/situation may also affect the way
they work. The key is to be able to effectively address and take advantage of the differences in
values and expectations of each generation in the workplace. The current work place consists of
four different generations; The Baby Boomers (1946 1964) who are slowly retiring and existing
the workforce, The Generation X (1965 1976), The Generation Y or millennia (1977 1997), and the
Generation Z who are about to or are just entering the work force. Although these different
generations tend to want similar things in a workplace their environment/background has shaped
their character, values, and expectations (Hahn 2011).
Baby Boomers perspective
According to Hahn (2011), baby boomers share the following background and characteristics:
Raised during a time of economic prosperity and optimism.
Grew up with a clear division of gender roles and low divorce rate.
Experience the Vietnam War, the Apollo 11 moon landing, and the civil right movement.
They are comfortable working in hierarchical organizations.
Demonstrate a strong sense of self, leadership, and entrepreneurship.
Expect life to revolve around work.
Prefer face to face meetings.

Crime and Disorder Legislation, Sentences and Orders
Pre court measure There are 2 pre court measures that are given to young people before they get
taken to court, they want to help give the youths a chance to change their ways. The 2 measures
are Reprimand and a Final warning. A reprimand is a verbal warning given to the youth by a
police officer. The child may then be sent off to a youth offending team to complete voluntary
work also known as community service, this will help to teach the youth a lesson not to punish
them. A final warning is given to a child who admits that they are wrong in the offence they have
performed. The child must then be assessed by a series of activities to help see the causes of their
offending. Anti social measures ASBO s (anti social behaviour orders) and... Show more content on

The offender will be made to pay the money to the court which will then be passed onto the
victim. Compensation will be taken into consideration for personal injury, loss or damage
which has happened from the offence. Child safety order This order is given to given aged 10
and over and its intentions is to help and support them if the court feel as if they are at a risk of
being involved in anti social behaviour. The child may be given a curfew, this is to make sure
that they are in after a certain time so they do not get the chance to commit any crimes. If they
breach the curfew they must then be supervised by a social worker. Parenting orders It is given
to a parent and this requires them to attend a 3 month programme. This programme will help
parents to deal with their child s behaviour and stop them offending. The child may then be given
a curfew and it is down to the parents to make sure their child is attending school and that they
are there on time to help them get a better education. Reparation order A reparation order gives
the offender a second chance to make things better, the offender may be asked to either help
repair the damage from their offence, write a letter of apology to the victim, verbally
communicate with the victim to talk about the impact of the offence or have to do community
service. There are punishments if you do not do what is asked from you, you could be fined, be
given a curfew or be re sentenced

Three Principal Meetings that Led to the Adoption of the Constitution of the United States There
were three principal meetings that led to the adoption of the Constitution of the United States, and
only two Virginians attended all three. The meetings were the Mount Vernon Conference of 1785,
the Annapolis Convention of 1786 and the Philadelphia Convention in 1787. James Madison was
one attendee, and he is well known as the Father of the Constitution and our fourth President.
George Mason was the other, yet his name does not spring to mind. Does George Mason deserve

This work by Mason is cited often in the literature, although the reason for its inclusion appears to
be his tirade renouncing the tradition of slavery. However, beyond a brief mention of the evils of
slavery in the opening paragraph, the true value of this document is the description of a scheme to
avoid Stamp Act taxation while retaining security in bonds and rents. This intricate plan was never
implemented as the Stamp Act was repealed shortly afterward. The British Parliament adopted the
Townshend Acts 1767, the colonies responded by adopting non importation associations, and
George Mason s hand was to be found in those documents. The Virginia Nonimportation Resolutions
were modeled after the original resolve of Philadelphia merchants. Scholars argue over whether this
was the sole work of Mason, or whether he merely served on the committee. Nevertheless, on April
5th, 1769, George Washington forwarded copies of the Philadelphia resolution to George Mason.
That same day, George Mason dispatched his reply to Washington, expressing Mason s thoughts at
implementation of the plan. The important element of this exchange is that Mason was already in
possession of the plan when Washington forwarded duplicates. Mason explained that he was

An Errand of Beauty
Dearest Marcellina Avitus,
I m afraid I must be again the bearer of bad news my dear sister. After bringing yours and Lucanus
petitions to my own husband, and then to our local Aedile last week, I had no such luck in having
them answered. I thought perhaps, with my noble blood and the respected Patrician name of my
husband I could perhaps get an audience with our beloved Emperor. So, there I was last week,
walking through the streets of Rome, my ladies in waiting all aflutter around me, dodging Plebian
neighborhoods like a plague from the gods, following whispers from strolling senators in their
bright white togas. My only mission was to find our emperor Trajan and command to have your
petitions answered.
However, as you know dear sister, I am easily distracted by the wondrous beauties the gods have
bestowed upon our great city. Sister, have you ever actually taken the time to look at the beauty
around you? I know there is not much where you reside on the outskirts of town, but next time you
go to the market, please do. In fact, visit the markets outside of Emperor Trajan s forum the next
time you come further into the city.
Can you imagine two whole levels of market stalls? Each one with more and more goods to
purchase, by the gods it is a sight to behold sister. I had to send one of ladies in waiting to run
home and fetch more slaves just to be able to carry back the abundance of luxury items I
purchased from one of the first floor shops, located just beneath a

Private Goods vs. Public Goods
Tim Randall Public or Private Good Public goods have characteristics of non rival and non
excludable. The former entails that one person s consumption does not affect another s
consumption of a good; the latter conveys that one individual cannot prevent another from
consuming a good (EconPort.org. N.D. PP. 1). Conversely, a private good is both rival and
excludable. An individual owns their good, not everyone can own the same good (rival), and
each individual can exclude others from using that good (excludable). Mixed goods are hybrids
of public and private: Common Pool Resource goods display the rival elements but are non
excludable, while Club Goods contain the non rival element but are excludable (EconPort.org.
N.D. PP. 1). Congested toll roads Private good, because some can be excluded from its use by
the fee, and rival, because more vehicles on the road indicates one person s use is impacting
other individuals using the same road (i.e. less available space). Knowledge Broadly defined as
a public good, because one person s use of information does not diminish another s use of the
same information (non rival), and one individual cannot prevent another from using the
knowledge. Broadly defined because private intellectual property could be considered a private
good if others are not allowed to use it. Fish in the ocean Common pool resource, because no one
can be excluded from fishing in the ocean however, there is a limited supply of fish (rival). National

D G Gang Rape Advert
Television commercials or print ads are often developed that rely on unusual creative tactics and
have very little relevance to the product or service being advertised. Creative personnel in
agencies defend the use of these ads by noting that they are novel and provide a way to break
through the high level of clutter on television and in magazines. Evaluate the pros and cons of this
argument. Find an example of a television commercial or print ad that takes an unusual creative
approach and discuss whether you feel it is effective or ineffective.

An affective IMC strategy implies thorough understanding of their customers and the identification
of the market (demographic) since a product cannot broadly apply to all consumers. D G are
targeting young men teenagers, middle and upper class professionals, metrosexual couples and
people that are employed in artistic and innovative industries such as interior designers.
Why should these categories buy D G products? What is the perceived value customers gain when
purchasing D G products? Marketers are aware that some teenagers and young men find it difficult
to socialize with women. This advert is informing this category that with D G products socializing
with women becomes an easy task (Women will fall for you!).
The black box at the background and the white opening symbolize their liberal and rebellious
attitude. They are challenging the viewers to think outside the box (lateral thinking black box).
They are provoking the viewer to reflect and dig deeper, to search for the connotative meanings
behind the rape scene. The background portraying the clouds gives the notion of paradise and
transmits the feeling that the woman is giving consent. In other words they are saying that this is
not rape but a heavenly experience. This idea might appeal to metrosexual couples. D G is making
a statement that they cater for people who are open minded (white opening).
One might argue that the idea behind using these images

Sexualization Of Beauty Pageants
When most people think of beauty pageants, they think of Barbie like little girls with their tiny
bedazzled dresses and swimsuits strutting their stuff on stage while showing off their million
dollar smile. The pageant judges watch their every move looking for a mistake in their routine
while an audience of mostly moms screams, applauds, and cheers for them behind the line of
judges, showing the girls the exact moves they are supposed to be doing. A beauty pageant is an
assembly of girls or womenat which judges select the most beautiful (Cartwright). Beauty pageants
are one of the fastest growing businesses in America grossing over 5 billion dollars (Nussbaum).

They promote a materialistic belief that tells young girls that physical beauty is most important.
The number of young girls who are growing up too early is growing rapidly throughout the
United States and the rest of the world. Kids are deprived of their childhood because pageants
take up all their time and they make them eager to grow up because of all the makeup and glitz.
When they want to go outside and play with their friends, they are forced to practice for hours
before an upcoming pageant. They grow up way too fast because parents are allowing them to
wear revealing clothes and act inappropriately for their age. For example, Windy Dickey dressed
her daughter, Paisley, Winner of many Child Beauty Pageants, up in a costume that was exactly the
same as Julia Roberts character wore in the movie Pretty Womanthe fitted, skin baring white
blouse, the tight blue mini skirt and thigh high, shiny black boots (Canning). These young girls
wear tons of makeup, false eyelashes, have their eyebrows done, have fake hair and even
flippers which are fake teeth. Beauty pageant contestants may develop a misconception about life
and beauty while being involved in them. They may grow up to believe that only physical beauty
matters and that it is the primary judge of one s self worth. Pageants can damage the self esteem
of a young girl when things do not go as she would hope (Nussbaum). What will a mother tell her

The Secretary Chant, By Marge Piercy
What attitudes does each of the three authors have about the consequences of work? The authors
of the three texts all share a similar attitude towards the consequences of work, which is that it
can be detrimental to one s physical and mental wellbeing. Author of text One The Secretary
Chant, Marge Piercy describes the stressful life of a secretary and how the accumulation of
stressful events leads to the secretary feeling mechanical and dehumanised. Piercy implies that,
with overwork, people can begin to lose a sense of who they are. In this instance, the Secretary
believes she is no longer a human, but instead a part of the office as her voice has been lost in the
quantity of work that must be done. Similarly, Steven Poole, who wrote text... Show more content

This is further enhanced by the use of emotive language and a detached and melancholy tone.
The use of the verb, hang, and the noun, chains, acts as a possible allusion to other historical
events of oppression such as slavery. Such vocabulary choices emphasise the way in which the
secretary feels trapped and objectified in her own work environment. The secretary feels
trapped because of the way that she has been objectified, which suggests that she is only valued
for her ability to work like other office equipment, evident in line 1 where she states, my hips are
a desk. The mechanical way that the secretary is employed establishes how she no longer feels
as though she is a human. Instead, she is simply part of the office and the repetitive
onomatopoeic, buzz, and, clicks, that define workplace environments. This is supported by line
21, where the persona states, file me under W because I wonce was a woman. In a similar way,
text 2 considers the damaging effect of work through a satirical narrative voice. This is achieved
by exploring how humans are essentially slaves of the digital world. When humans go on
holiday; an event that epitomises quite the opposite of work, they are still plagued by, the fear
that catching up on a fortnight s email will be epically disgusting labour. Whilst the prospect of
reading one s emails is not the crux of the article, it acts as a humours anecdote that reminds
readers of the dangers of letting the digital world control them. The light hearted narrative voice of
the text is emphasised by the use of colloquial terms and inclusive language, such as, that first
volume of Karl Ove Knausgard you ve been meaning to read, as it appeals to the demographic of
The Guardian and encourages the

Realism Vs. Realism Of The United States
Realism versus Idealism. This argument is almost as old as the world we live in. The Unites States
has gone through a lot of stages in its history. The United States was sometimes realist and
sometimes idealist and that led to different presidents, governments and polices.
A Realist is a person who believes that the word and the people of the word can t change. They
believe that we can make the world a better but the people will still be the same no matter what
you do to them. For example Mahan was a realist who believed that a man s role in the world is
to clime with his country to the top knowing that some one will claim that spot from you in the
future. In the history of the united states there were a lot of examples or realist politicians. One
of the first and most important realists is Alexander Hamilton. An Idealist is a person who
believes that the people can be changed by education and time. An idealist is a peaceful person
who believes that we can solve our conflicts without wars. They believe that war is the failure in
human evolution and that we should not turn to it to solve our problems because all war is a
symptom of man s failure as a thinking animal (John Steinbeck). Woodrow Wilsonis an example of
an idealist presedent

Co-ed versus Same Sex Physical Education Classes
Before title IX girls were not given the same opportunities as boys in physical education classes.
They were not taught to perform skills as advances as boys, so tile IX changed that and made co
ed physical education classes. This gave girls and boys the same opportunities because they were
actually participating together in the same class period. Even though it was a positive thing that
girls were receiving the same attention the boys were receiving, it changed the way that both sexes
acted as well as preformed in their classes for multiple reasons. The opposite sexcan have an effect

Same sex physical education classes have more advantages because students have a better work
ethic, although if there were no title IX, girls would still be treated unfairly and not receive the
attention and materials they should. Co ed physical education has given girls the equal
opportunity they should have in their classes. They now are taught the same things as well as in
the same class as the boys. It is a positive thing that title IX provided equality but there are also
negative aspects that it has brought along. With having boys and girls in the same class male
superiority is being shown a lot more than in same sex classes (Lirgg 183). For instance, males
are usually very athletic and like to show off their skills in physical education class. This
illustrates male superiority because they are the ones usually controlling the games and may not
let the girls participate as mach as the boys. For example, a Canadian study by Schneider and
Coutts (1982) found that coeducational schools were perceived by students as being more
gregarious, group cen tered, friendly, enjoyable, tolerant of noncompliance, spontaneous, and
conducive to self confidence and self respect than were same sex schools (Lirgg 183). This is a
positive note because if the students are enjoying themselves and are happy to be in school, they
will want to go and work hard. Co ed schools also result in the

his rule in power. One policy he created was against the Muslims. As of the year that he created
the policy, he lost half of the strength of his navy from losing wars with the Turkish Empire, as
talked about before ( Philip II ). While attempting to repair his navy back to its full strength once
again, the Muslim pirates attacked Spain. Prisoners were taken, but King Philip was able to

Spain at this point ( Good King Philip? ). After many more small wars, both sides were left with
very little military presence, so Spain and France signed a truce. Philip II also created a two fold

meant Spain absorbing Portugal into her kingdom (Trueman). He also created a very large
army, also stated above. The noblemen of Portugal supported Philip II, and also clearly hoped to
get rewards for their support. Nearly all of the problems Philip II faced were results of his

USB and Seth complains about leaving the club and coming back to the office at 10:00pm.
Compared to Peter, Seth cares more about the well being of himself than of the survival of the
company. For example, when Peter and Seth are in the taxi, Seth pulls out a large beer and asks
Peter if he wants one, Peter says no and Seth says What, we got them on our way to meet you at

The Impact Of Victorian Traditions In The 1800s
Manifest destiny , the effects of industrialization, and the addition of millions of immigrants to
American ranks mark America as it stood in the 1800 s. The introduction of a plethora of
differing cultures and traditions meant that ideas of what it meant to be American were still
forming as the country surged into its position as a global powerhouse. The wild, wild West had
made its appearance as the Homestead Act of 1862 beckoned large numbers of landless citizens
seeking to remedy such circumstances (Peopling of the West, 51). At the same time, Victorian
standards for dress and poise still permeated the American middle class. These strange cultural
amalgamations of America in the 1800 s proved to be catalysts for the change that the turn of the
century brought in the millions of Americans on whose back the country had flourished sought
recompense in the form of leisure to match their work. While the 1800 s had been chock full of
Victorian values and industrious yearnings, the 1900 s entered with a demand for less rigorous
social expectations. The Victorian values instilled in middle class Americans were faced with a
sudden challenge in the form of amusement parks that offered overburdened workers a respite from
their dreary work days. While this new entertainment excluded some races, it allowed more classes
and ethnicities to intermingle, enticed women from their traditional roles in the home, and
disregarded the standards Victorian values had set for respectable

Aviation Industry Essay
INTRODUCTION.
At the present time, the airline industry faces many cost pressures. The industry has made
remarkable achievements in improving its efficiency. But cost pressures continue, from record high
fuel prices to unjustified increases in charges from monopolistic airports, to further taxes imposed
by governments (industryspotlight.org.uk). Higher costs inevitably lead to higher prices for airline
passengers. Aviation is vital part of the United Kingdom. It is not only crucial in sponsoring almost
1 million jobs and ВЈ50 billion of GDP, providing around ВЈ8.7 billion in taxes to the Treasury of
the country, but aviation is also fundamental to the success of economic benefits from air transport
in the United Kingdom (Roberts Hughes, 2014). Aviation supports exports, services, manufacturing,
foreign direct investment and of course tourism. This sector gives us opportunity for the holidays
and visits of family and friend in different parts of a country and also around the world. ... Show

The external environment of an organization represents factors outside the company that affect the
company s ability to function. The business cannot control these aspects but can answer to these
changes if it needed. Of course the main problem for business managers is to manage to respond
early to these changes in the external environment, but this depends on how soon any change is
identified. Most of external environmental factors for example, economic conditions, are reported
daily in the media; managers have a wealth of information with the help of which they can develop
strategic plans. Nevertheless, some external factors are difficult to identify, especially when they

Behaviourist and Social Learning
With reference to chosen theory of learning (behaviourist, social learning) discuss its application to
patient education in context of general nursing.
It may be said; why is psychology significant in nursing care and why do we use learning theories
to assist in patient care? Well according to Walker et al (2007), in the caring profession nurses,
spend most, if not all of their working lives interacting with other people. A key part of a nurse s
job is to promote healthful behaviour. When a patient is admitted to hospital it is often their
physical illness that can cause a lot of emotional distress. This means gaining a better understanding
of how people cope with illnesses whether acute or chronic. Understanding health psychology will

He deciphered that dogs like humans salivate (reflex response) when they see food; it is a
natural physiological reflex response. However he also demonstrated that a signal such as using
a bell (stimulus) just before he gave the dog food would eventually lead the dog to salivate at the
sound of the bell even if there was no food present. Pavlov verified by pairing or associating
another stimulus (the bell) with food he could train the dogs to salivate. This theory could then be
applied to people as well. According to Richard et al (2007) it was found that pairing one stimulus
with another stimulus could also provoke a reflexive response in people. This is also called a
stimulus response theory of learning. Operant conditioning according to Walker et al (2007) pg 86
refers to learning that involves changes in voluntary responses those over which we normally
have conscious control. Operant conditioning was developed largely by B.F. Skinner (1974,1989).
According to Bastable (2003) pg 57 chap 3 operant conditioning focuses on the behaviour of the
organism and reinforcement that occurs after the response. A reinforcer is a stimulus or event
applied after a response that strengthens the probability that the response will be performed again.
Skinner (1974) suggested that giving positive reinforcement i.e. (reward) greatly enhances
behaviour and the likelihood that a response will be repeated in a similar circumstance. A second
way to increase behaviour is by applying

The personal questions that make is easy for hackers to do their job adequately are questions like,
what is your social security number or birthdate? Many people will put their trust in certain sites,
but in actuality no one is safe. While online, it is all about being nonanonymous (Christian 95). It
gets grueling after a while when we have to prove ourselves and companies never really know if
the individual they are talking to is the person they say to be. In this case, computer users are
constantly trying to authenticate themselves, because no one knows exactly who the other person
is. This is due to the expansion in modern technology. In contrary to this, when there was a lack of
computer technology, people communicated with one another in the flesh. There was no need to
steal money from one another or invade someones personal privacy. Computer modernization is a
sign that we may not be safe online anymore and it is taking away our identity online. There are
various people out there up to no good that want to steal our identity, which in turn leads to those
same individuals hacking into personal accounts and credit cards. This increase in technology has
only made it harder for us to trust the diverse sites, but it has also made it a lot easier for people to

Global Climate Change Is The Future Of The Entire Generation
Global climate change transcends the future of the entire generation. Yunjing Wang mentions that
the world is expecting warming that could be dangerous throughout the century (Wang et al.,
2015). Not only effecting species of animals but also determining the presence of human existence.
New diseases prevail on a daily basis specifically vector borne. These vector borne illnesses adapt to
climate changedue to temperature fluctuations, constant precipitation, and population adjustments.
Although diseases such as Malaria and Zika are being researched on a daily basis, preventative
measures for diseases caused by climatechange are being acted upon by many organizations. If a
steady climate can arise in the near future, virulence of many climate related diseases will
eventually decline. The dynamics of climate influence virulence due to unstable temperatures. The
effects on the quality of life creates vulnerability to those that surround these virulent environments.
It is referenced that extreme outbreaks occur after major disturbances to the population
(McMichael, 2015). These climatic events tend to trigger microbes, pathogens, and hosts to start
infecting the nearest populous whether it be animal or human. As McMichael mentions, microbes
have the capacity that is stronger willed than any biotechnological application and can reproduce a
stable metabolism and maintain a relationship in the most severe disturbance (2015). McMichael,

Artificial Intelligence Dangers
What are the dangers and possible benefits of Artificial Intelligence? Throughout the course of
history, technological advances have proven to not only influence, but significantly impact one s
quality of life. Within society, there are those who strongly believe that these advancements have
saved lives and benefitted future generations, while others argue against it, firmly articulating that
the progression of technology will prove to work against the overall betterment of humanity.
Despite this, one cannot deny society s obsession and thirst for the next big technological
advancement. Human s, never content with what they have, are extremely vulnerable and
susceptible to consumeristic tendencies. Regardless of what is actually attainable, we always focus
on the technology of the future. Perhaps the definition of futuristic advancement can be best
understood as Artificial Intelligence? Surprisingly the days of Artificial Intelligence are
approaching; however, with this revelation come challenging questions. What can be gained
through Artificial Intelligence how will humanity be impacted by this technology? Are there
potential dangers associated with it? Will Artificial Intelligence be a universal advancement? Only
through further exploration and analysis of these questions will one be able to fully grasp the

India s An Imposition Of Western Culture
This essay will explore the phenomenon of Bollywood and analyze it as a product of
consumerism in India that reflects both the fault lines of globalization and the failures of
commercial culture. This will be done by providing a historical context to globalization; an
overview of India s independence movement and emergence as a nation, a brief overview of
Bollywood as a commercial entity and identify parallel cultural and economic trends. This essay
will proceed to reveal Bollywood as an imposition of Western culture, the product of an intense
commercialization of indigenous art forms, and a lens that reflects the dualities in Modern day
India. Globalization is a term to describe the increasing wave of globalized markets and the
institutions and regimes that uniformly determine access to such markets; namely privatization,
free flow of capital, deregulation and foreign investment rights. India currently stands as the world
s largest democracy; a parliamentary system inherited from the British Commonwealth tradition
where approximately 700 million citizens enjoy enfranchisement. The fault lines of India s
democracy run parallel with the country s economic divisions; a profound disparity of wealth is
widespread. The large class divisions in Indian society, rooted in the traditional caste system,
exacerbated and exploited during the colonial era, have been further entrenched with the rise of
Globalization. India s cultural and religious fabric is a complex and often

The Death Of The Volcano
The molten lava bubbled and hissed at the bottom of the volcano. Everyone bowed their heads,
all that could be heard was the crying of the grief stricken families . Then came a splash, as the
dead body was thrown over the edge and into the lava below. Our leader, RГ©gle, stepped out of
the shadows, her long blonde hair swaying back and forth. She had a small frown on her face.
She looked at the family members and bowed her head in respect before walking out of sight.
She had died at the age ten from an unknown disease , but we didn t have the right resources, or
the medicine to save her. We were just lucky the disease hadn t spread.

placing them on straw and tying the rope to the bridge for three days and then cooling them
down by placing them on the entrance of the volcano and buried in mud. The RГ©gle kept

Essay on Td Canada Trust
TD Canada Trust
Executive Summary After the completion of a mega merger, TD Canada Trust seeks to reposition
the brand in order to retain customers and realize steady revenue growth. To examine the
investment return of the new brand campaign comfortable banking , Executive VP Armstrong led
his team developed a linkage analysis system and proposed a new branch incentive plan. This
essay aims to evaluate the linkage analysis model and its effectiveness, also to comment on the
incentive plan based on results of linkage analysis .

The immediate purpose that Armstrong has set for the linkage analysis is to measure the impact
that specific enhancements for reductions of key customer satisfaction drivers would have on
branches financial performance. From a technical point of view, the regression model is well
developed with the data provided. Each factor s weighed impact to the final gross contribution is
indicated in the results.
Interpretation of the linkage analysis results
While the process of model development may seem compelling, major flaws exists in the linkage
analysis , diminishing its credibility.
Armstrong s team used branch level data from the CSI system as the primary source of research. As
a result the concept of comfortable banking is directly translated into customers satisfaction during
their interaction with tellers in the bank, since almost every criteria in the CSI is measuring
representative service behaviors. One thing that the team failed to see is that comfortable banking
could include a much wider scope of services that customers value therefore consider important to
their experience: the products itself and services provided outside the bank for instance. According
to Armstrong, comfortable banking positioning stands for the branding of the overall experience
TD Canada Trust delivers to its clients. The financial products, as the core business of any banks
throughout the world, should be counted as part of the service, too.

The Green Party
Bernie Sanders fever is sweeping the across the country. After a credible showing in Iowa, he is
well placed to win New Hampshire. The most astonishing thing about this is that he has
managed to turn socialism from a taboo in American politics into a norm. His run and
prominence has led to 43 percent of Iowa caucus voters to self identifying as socialist (Scher
2016). The problem is that actual socialists are in some cases rooting against Senator Sanders.
His candidacy has led to a split amongst socialists, with some feeling that he is a bona fide
socialist while others feel is a socialist in name only (Scher 2016). As a whole, the parties that
would be considered socialist do not place well in elections. The Green Party, which is probably
the most well known party with socialist aims, had 469,627 votes in the 2012 election according
to the FEC. While not massive, it still dwarfs the totals of parties with the word socialist in their
name. Combined, they received a whopping 86,528 votes in 2012 (FEC). Many feel that Sanders
has sold out , by pledging to support billionaire backed Hilary Clinton should she win (Scher
2016). Many within the far left feel that Sanders campaign is pulling votes and interest away from
true socialist parties and policies, and could weaken the platform overall. Most socialist parties
prefer to stay united behind one candidate, in this case the Green s Dr. Jill Stein, and get on the
ballot consistently rather than be split with Sanders

True Freedom By John Stuart Mill And Georg Hegel
Wars, death, and other acts of violence have all been part of a process to attain true freedom.
However, what is true freedom? John Stuart Mill and Georg Hegel tackle this notion of freedom.
Mills states that freedom is when individuals have unlimited liberty, while Hegel says that is a
false freedom. He states that freedom is when the individual s morals align with external laws
within the nation state. Despite what many say freedom is more similar in Hegel s and Mills than
different. We can see this through Hegel s notion of absolutemind and Mill s value of liberty and
notion of diversity. God is absolute mind, God is the totality of human thinking and through spirit
God is becoming aware of its own self consciousness to reach even higher levels of consciousness.
This is the notion of absolute mind according to Hegel, he mentions that during this process of
absolute mind of becoming aware of itself. Human history tends to be a Slaughter bench (Hegel
71), reason being because diversity is trying to figure itself out. As seen in his dialectics, patterns
which dictates even the absolute spirit, there are two dialectics that he mentions, the ethical and
political dialectics. These dialectics contains a thesis which is the original definition of something,
an antithesis which is contrary to the thesis. Finally, those two are synthesized to become one, a
better solution. For example, the political dialectics has a thesis of containing of the family life,
which relates to

He describes how the western philosophy has described how to make a better world by just simply
giving the individuals more choice in the world. Schwartz then later in the lecture goes on to
explain how this ever growing amount of choice can lead to a paralysis of choice. According to
Schwartz this paralysis is being exemplified by the amount of choices given to them. This has
led to an opposite effect where instead of giving more choices equals a better life, now more
choices means no choices at all leading to no choice at all. Schwartz gives another example of
cellphones doing Ludacris things such as nose trimming, toothbrush and even a lighter. Here
exemplifies how the growing number of choices has led to the elderly simply not getting cell
phones or televisions because they cannot understand how to use the call feature or how to
change the channel of the television. The vast amount of choices has also lead to the agency of
our choices to decease as well. With so many options our decisions rely totally on us according to
Schwartz, that if our choice in anything is so much as not perfect, then our decision was a bad

Overpopulation And The Future Improvement Of Society By...
The topic of overpopulation has different perspectives regarding whether or not it is happening as
well as its apparent effects of both the environment and its inhabitants. The idea of human
overpopulation being a problem most clearly begins around the time of Thomas Robert Malthus
publishing of An Essay on the Principle of Populationas It Affects the Future Improvement of
Society, with Remarks on the Speculations of Mr. Godwin, M. Condorcet, and Other Writers. In his

For instance, Dr. Calhoun s study on rat populations have given us an idea of the psychological
effects of overpopulation. Regardless of the conclusion given after the Horrific Experiment ,
there would opposers of the beliefs that keep the debate well alive in the communities that
involve themselves in it. As mentioned previously, the study done by Dr. Calhoun was described
by Scotty Hendricks in the author s Think Big article. The rats in the Universe 25 experiment
could allow for another aspect of the effects of overpopulation to be considered. With the only
limiting factor of the growing rat population being living space, there was a conclusion met as well
as an interpretation of how this could connect to our society as human beings. He suggested that
the constant interaction between the mice could have been a probable cause for the increase in
violence in the society. With the regulation of social interaction being done to reduce the amount a
rat makes contact with another, there was a decrease in the effects of the population boom. The
author would then inquire: ...is our own version of Universe 25 right around the corner? No, says
Dr. Calhoun. Yes, says anybody who complains about people being on their phones too often, or

Essay about Thornton Wilder s Our Town
Thornton Wilder s Our Town Our Town is play written a while ago, but it relates to any time.
Showing that routine is a part of everybody s life. No matter what day and age you live in your
going to have a routine. This play shows an example of two families and their daily routines. The
whole play relates to routineeven the different acts.
Our Town takes place in Grover s Corner, New Hampshire around the turn of the century. (1900
s). This play uses a lot of flashbacks. There s one with George and Emily when they first fall in love
at Mr. Morgan s shop. It also uses foreshadowing. When they told of how everyone died. Another
flashback is when Joe comes back after about ten years and they talk about the dead and everyone s
lives.

The dialect throughout this play was universal. It could be used in many different areas and/or time
periods. I thought that the dialect used throughout this book was very similar to how people
around Garden City talk. Blessed be the tie that binds is played a lot in Our Town. This song ties in
with the theme perfectly. Showing how everything is connected and how we miss all the small
things in the world.
The staging is kept very simple. This allows you to think up what they are describing. Which lets
you use your imagination to make it look as you wish. There isn t much to the stage as I said
they keep it simple, for example: for the wedding all they have are chairs set up in rows. The
lighting is low making it easier for you to make your own stage with your imagination.
This play could actually have two themes. Living life to the fullest, and appreciate the small
things in life. I believe the author wrote this play to show that no matter what the time is or
where you live your going to have a routine and the cycle of life. The theme is really developed
when Rebecca is at the grave yard and goes back for her day of life. She realizes that she never
appreciated things that mattered. The value of this play today is great because it relates to us as it
will continue to do so for some time.
I believe the title Our Town is good for this play. It shows that it can be any town and anytime. I
didn t really like that play, but I did

Hummus Research Paper
Many people regard hummus as the most representative Middle Eastern food. But I have never
eaten hummus since I left the Middle East last year. There are several reasons for not having it
either in China or in America. It is hard to find hummus in China. People in my area barely know
what hummus is, or even chickpeas. After I came back to the US from China, I was able to
purchase the hummus in plastic containers in grocery stores, but I didn t buy any. When I saw the
hummus here in the US, I lost my desire to buy and eat because it is hard for me to relate the fresh
made hummus to the ones here sitting in the fridge.
So I decided to make my own hummus. I found a recipe online and bought most of the
ingredients from local grocery store and Tahini from Black Cherry Mediterranean Market.
Putting 3 cans of chickpeas, lemons juice of 2 lemons, a spoon of Tahini, a teaspoon of salt, 2
cloves of garlic, and 2 teaspoons of chickpeas liquid into a mixer. I like a little crunchy hummus
better, so I didn t mix it for a long time. I sprinkled some fried pine nuts and added some olive oil
before serving. It tastes much better than the ones I could purchase ... Show more content on

But when I tried the authentic hummus in the Middle East, I felt those that existed in the US
shouldn t represent real hummus. Just as orange chicken should not be a representative Chinese food
. They taste good, but it is hard to be accepted as an important part of the cultures. Whenever I
think of hummus after the experience in Middle East, I think of the little plate of hummus with
olive oil and different kinds of spices on top, or the little white container of hummus with
different colors of toppings you can choose when you ordered to go. Industrialized mass
production of hummus here is no more considered as a good middle eastern food in my mind. It is
something easy and cheap to get in those local restaurants or sandwich shops, with a not simple of

Contemporary British Novel
JOHN SELF:EPITOME OF AN ERA
1.INTRODUCTION
Money:A suicide note is the dark novel by Martin Amis that depicts the degredation of society, its
morals and values ,in the eighties. It is set in 1981 and includes notable events such as the Royal
Wedding of Charles and Diana and the riots in England. Amis gives us a repulsive and materialistic
view of New York and London in the late 20th century, corrupted by pornography, self promotion,
junk food, alcohol, television and most importantly Money.
The protagonist of this novel is John Self, a self admitted loser who smokes and drinks too much,
with a serious addiction to violence, masturbation, television commercials, etc. ... Show more

To him, America represents a place where it all started. Self spent a lot of his early life there and
he thinks of the States as the place that got him hooked on some of the vices that he is addicted
to junk food and video games. America is grand, he can be whoever he wants to be, act the way
he wants and a place where he can get anything his heart desires. We get the feeling that Self enjoys
being in the States more than in England. In comparison, Britain seems smaller, not as advanced,
but it is starting to be like America, since it has traded its places of high culture for something

The Road Not Taken by Robert Frost Essay
The Road Not Taken by Robert Frost
In Robert Frost s The Road Not Taken, (reprinted in Laurence Perrine and Thomas R. Arp, Sound
and Senses, 8th ed. [San Diego: Harcourt, 1992] 23) the speaker stands in the woods, considering
a fork in the road. Both ways are equally worn, and equally overlaid with un trodden leaves. The
speaker chooses one, telling himself that he will take the other another day. Yet he knows it is
unlikely that he will have the opportunity to do so. And he admits that someday in the future he
will recreate the scene with a slight twist: he will claim that he took the less traveled road. The
whole poem is an extended metaphor, where Frost describes a path in the woods that is directly
comparable to a major ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Frost presents to the reader a man s decision, at a turning point in his life, symbolized by two roads
diverged in a yellow wood.
In the first line, Frost introduces the elements of his primary metaphor: the diverging roads. The
speaker expresses his regret that [he] could not travel both (line 2). The choice is not easily
made since long I stood (line 3) before coming to a decision. In an attempt to make a choice, the
traveler examines the path as far as [he] could (line 4), but his vision is limited because the path
bends and is covered in the undergrowth (line 5). Thus, indicating that although he would have
liked to acquire more information, he is prevented from doing so because of the nature of his
environment. In lines 6 8, the speaker is still unable to decide between the two paths since the
other, [is] just as fair (line 6). He indicates that the second path is a more attractive choice since it
was grassy and wanted wear (line 8). Nevertheless, by the end of the stanza, he remains ambivalent,
even after comparing the two paths, for each was really about the same (line 10). Neither path has
been traveled lately. In the third stanza, the speaker makes his decision, trying to persuade himself
that he will eventually come back (line 15) to satisfy his desire and curiosity to travel both paths.
However, deep down, he admits to himself that

There Should Be Moderated Always Analysis
Is it really necessary to comment on someone else s page to bother and hurt the other person?
Comments should be moderated always because comments get out of control, makes the other
person upset and it starts to become something normal to people.
Comments should be moderated always because comments get out of control easily. People start
commenting on YouTube channels giving their opinion and another person comes and starts
commenting negative things. Then another person sees someone else trolling and they want to do
the same. For example, every time I go to a YouTube channel there s always someone who
comments negative things and then a lot of people comment back and they don t stop until the
youtuber blocks the comment sections. Another Example, would be I think that it started with a

Looking Glass American Dream Essay
Dreams feel real while we re in them. It s only when we wake up that we realize something was
actually strange. Inception (50 Dream Quotes). Carroll writes Through the Looking Glass based
off of the dream concept. This novel is strange compared to most because of the dream Alice has.
In the beginning, Alice is playing with her kittens. As she drifts off to sleep, Alice goes through the
mirror and enters Looking Glass World. While there, Alice joins a chessgame as a pawn. She
continues across the board and meets all sorts of characters who help Alice in her journey to
become Queen. She meets the Red Queen, White Queen, Humpty Dumpty, and White Knight in
different squares throughout the game. When she reaches the honor of Queen, Alice is... Show more

Alice s main objective throughout the story is to become Queen. She slowly moves step by step
towards her goal, like a pawn would in chess. Carroll gave each chess piece life in Looking Glass
World and empowered them by using them to assist Alice in her quest to become Queen. Carroll
symbolizes Alice s adventure as chess game because he wants to make the point that rules are
needed in life, but fun is still important. Life is just a game, full of arbitrary rules and not nearly
as meaningful as we like to pretend (Games). Alice is criticized by the Red Queen about all the
rules she needs to follow, but Alice wants to live in her adventure and have fun with the odd
characters. Since she is so young and has only limited knowledge of chess, Alice does not
understand the moves being made or the rules of the game. Alice rubbed her eyes, and looked
again. She couldn t make out what had happened at all (Carroll 197). Alice is confused when she
suddenly makes another move many times throughout the book. Carroll symbolizes turns and
twists in Alice s adventures by these chess moves. Many times, she does not understand what is
happening because she is represented as pawn, which would not move like the other

The Role Of The Titans In Greek Mythology
The Titans had very important roles and contributions to Greek Mythology as it is known today.
Many have heard of Greek Mythology, but with very little Information and understanding of these
certain Greek Gods, who had a major factor in the rise of mysticism. Because of their certain
powers and upbringing, Titans had major roles in the society. Without having a major part in the

gods and goddesses: Six male and six females, who were inherited by Gaea (Mother Earth) and
Uranus (Father Jupiter). The Titans were Kronos, Iapetus, Hyperion, Oceanus, Coeus, Creus, Theia,

Who Is Rod Ford Irresponsible
Since the election in 2010, Rod Ford has managed to remain in the headlines. Everyone knew that
the mayor was short fused and combustible. He demonstrated his short fuse and mean streak,

popular mayors. Sam McBride, whom made a fortune in lumber trade and made a strong influence
throughout his career, led the cityin the Twenties and thirties. The people of Torontoadored him so
much they named a ferryboat after him that is still in use today. Mel Lastman, is well known for

After denying for months about being an alcoholic or addict Toronto Mayor admitted to having
abused substances such as alcohol and cocaine. Ford blamed his behavior and inability to
complete tasks on his drug abuse. In an interview with CIBC Ford apologizes for his actions and
states, I think that goes along with having this disease, said Ford. [When using drugs] You do
things; you say things that just aren t you. I take full responsibility. Ford admits to
experimenting with almost every single drug on the market, except for heroin. These drugs
have serious precautions and effects on the user. Ford has been doing serious drugs for years
that overall change the characteristics of a person. Many believe that this very well could be
the underlying cause of the aforementioned issues. Mayor Ford decided to enter rehab when he
found himself unable to function day to day. After the previous incidents, city council decided
to revoke many of Ford s privileges and powers as mayor. Ford had lost the trust of not only the
people of Toronto, but city hall as well. Mayor Ford s racist, homophobic controversial slurs
could be the cause of years of substance abuse. Toronto will take this as a learning experience
when time to vote in the future. This shows that one should not continue to overlook the issues
at hand and deal with them when they arise. When someone is in a position of power, their
personal life is just as big of a factor as their political life. This person has an immense amount of
power and needs to be reliable, professional and have the public s best interest in hand at all times.
Mayor Rob Ford has failed to live up to Toronto s expectations of a successful public leader; this is
evident through his infamous reputation, ignorance to budgeting and failure to complete

Female Full Time Workers Made Only 79 Cents For Every Dollar
In 2014, female full time workers made only 79 cents for every dollar earned by men, a gender
wage gap of 21 percent. Women, on average, earn less than men in virtually every single occupation
for which there is sufficient earnings data for both men and women to calculate an earnings ratio
(IWPR). Since the beginning, women have experienced discriminationwhether in the workplace of
in general, and unfortunately, it continues on today. Women have always had to fight for equal
rights, to vote, to work, to be accepted in the workplace, etc., simple rights that should have been
given from the start. Being a womanin our society has definitely contributed to the already immense

In many occupations, even if women do obtain the requirements and more of what is expected
of a certain job title, and a man does not, the man gets chosen over the woman. Unfortunately,
this is currently happening within my workplace. Even though many women have the exact
requirements and more to get promoted, because there are very little men in my workplace, they
have always gotten the promotion over the women, while having less of what is required by
them. Although they are not getting compensated with more money, they are given the
opportunity for more responsibility and more work hours which gives them time to accumulate
that extra money. When questioned about this particular issue, the requirements not being met,
it is just said that it is being taken care of. It just makes one wonder, if we aren t able to advance
now, in regular jobs, are we going to be able to excel in our future careers? A 2012 AAUW

of a woman s career. The study controlled for factors known to affect earnings, such as education,

All The Light We Cannot See By Anthony Doerr
Throughout the book, All The Light We Cannot See by Anthony Doerr, there were many
symbols that were present. One symbol that stood out to me the most in the book was the radio.
This symbol stood out the most because of how the characters manipulated it throughout the
story. In early scenes of the book, it described the childhood life for Marie Laure (main
character) and Werner (main character). Werner and his sister, Jutta, spent most of their
childhood listening to a broadcast of French scientists on the radio. As time passed, Werner
excelled in math and was forced to work for the Nazi Party in tracking transmission waves in
order to find anyone who had illegal radios (172). During one of his missions in Saint Malo, he
found Marie Laure s broadcasts of her reading 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea. Werner listened to
Marie Laure s broadcasts every night for comfort and while listening one night, Werner noticed
that, She stop[ped] reading abruptly and the static roars. When she speaks again, her voice has

There are so many stories about World War II that have been buried and light hasn t been shed on
those perspectives of the war. This is the light that we don t see. Overall, I think that this story was
about shining light onto the parts of World War II that we don t hear about because it s been

  • 2. Generational Differences Essay Generational Differences Every generation is influenced by its period s economic, political and social events. From the Great Depression to the civil rights and women s movements to the advent of television and advanced computer technologies. Thus generational background/situation may also affect the way they work. The key is to be able to effectively address and take advantage of the differences in values and expectations of each generation in the workplace. The current work place consists of four different generations; The Baby Boomers (1946 1964) who are slowly retiring and existing the workforce, The Generation X (1965 1976), The Generation Y or millennia (1977 1997), and the Generation Z who are about to or are just entering the work force. Although these different generations tend to want similar things in a workplace their environment/background has shaped their character, values, and expectations (Hahn 2011). Baby Boomers perspective According to Hahn (2011), baby boomers share the following background and characteristics: Raised during a time of economic prosperity and optimism. • 3. Crime and Disorder Legislation, Sentences and Orders Pre court measure There are 2 pre court measures that are given to young people before they get taken to court, they want to help give the youths a chance to change their ways. The 2 measures are Reprimand and a Final warning. A reprimand is a verbal warning given to the youth by a police officer. The child may then be sent off to a youth offending team to complete voluntary work also known as community service, this will help to teach the youth a lesson not to punish them. A final warning is given to a child who admits that they are wrong in the offence they have performed. The child must then be assessed by a series of activities to help see the causes of their offending. Anti social measures ASBO s (anti social behaviour orders) and... Compensation will be taken into consideration for personal injury, loss or damage which has happened from the offence. Child safety order This order is given to given aged 10 and over and its intentions is to help and support them if the court feel as if they are at a risk of being involved in anti social behaviour. The child may be given a curfew, this is to make sure that they are in after a certain time so they do not get the chance to commit any crimes. If they breach the curfew they must then be supervised by a social worker. Parenting orders It is given to a parent and this requires them to attend a 3 month programme. This programme will help parents to deal with their child s behaviour and stop them offending. The child may then be given a curfew and it is down to the parents to make sure their child is attending school and that they are there on time to help them get a better education. Reparation order A reparation order gives the offender a second chance to make things better, the offender may be asked to either help repair the damage from their offence, write a letter of apology to the victim, verbally communicate with the victim to talk about the impact of the offence or have to do community service. • 4. Three Principal Meetings that Led to the Adoption of the... Three Principal Meetings that Led to the Adoption of the Constitution of the United States There were three principal meetings that led to the adoption of the Constitution of the United States, and only two Virginians attended all three. The meetings were the Mount Vernon Conference of 1785, the Annapolis Convention of 1786 and the Philadelphia Convention in 1787. James Madison was one attendee, and he is well known as the Father of the Constitution and our fourth President. George Mason was the other, yet his name does not spring to mind. Does George Mason deserve the accolade Founding Father? This paper will explore the political life of Mason and attempt to answer the question affirmatively. Before exploring Mason... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This work by Mason is cited often in the literature, although the reason for its inclusion appears to be his tirade renouncing the tradition of slavery. However, beyond a brief mention of the evils of slavery in the opening paragraph, the true value of this document is the description of a scheme to avoid Stamp Act taxation while retaining security in bonds and rents. This intricate plan was never implemented as the Stamp Act was repealed shortly afterward. The British Parliament adopted the Townshend Acts 1767, the colonies responded by adopting non importation associations, and George Mason s hand was to be found in those documents. The Virginia Nonimportation Resolutions were modeled after the original resolve of Philadelphia merchants. Scholars argue over whether this was the sole work of Mason, or whether he merely served on the committee. Nevertheless, on April 5th, 1769, George Washington forwarded copies of the Philadelphia resolution to George Mason. That same day, George Mason dispatched his reply to Washington, expressing Mason s thoughts at implementation of the plan. The important element of this exchange is that Mason was already in possession of the plan when Washington forwarded duplicates. Mason explained that he was ...inclosing the Resolves of the ... • 5. An Errand of Beauty Dearest Marcellina Avitus, I m afraid I must be again the bearer of bad news my dear sister. After bringing yours and Lucanus petitions to my own husband, and then to our local Aedile last week, I had no such luck in having them answered. I thought perhaps, with my noble blood and the respected Patrician name of my husband I could perhaps get an audience with our beloved Emperor. So, there I was last week, walking through the streets of Rome, my ladies in waiting all aflutter around me, dodging Plebian neighborhoods like a plague from the gods, following whispers from strolling senators in their bright white togas. My only mission was to find our emperor Trajan and command to have your petitions answered. However, as you know dear sister, I am easily distracted by the wondrous beauties the gods have bestowed upon our great city. Sister, have you ever actually taken the time to look at the beauty around you? I know there is not much where you reside on the outskirts of town, but next time you go to the market, please do. In fact, visit the markets outside of Emperor Trajan s forum the next time you come further into the city. Can you imagine two whole levels of market stalls? Each one with more and more goods to purchase, by the gods it is a sight to behold sister. I had to send one of ladies in waiting to run home and fetch more slaves just to be able to carry back the abundance of luxury items I purchased from one of the first floor shops, located just beneath a ... • 6. Private Goods vs. Public Goods Tim Randall Public or Private Good Public goods have characteristics of non rival and non excludable. The former entails that one person s consumption does not affect another s consumption of a good; the latter conveys that one individual cannot prevent another from consuming a good (EconPort.org. N.D. PP. 1). Conversely, a private good is both rival and excludable. An individual owns their good, not everyone can own the same good (rival), and each individual can exclude others from using that good (excludable). Mixed goods are hybrids of public and private: Common Pool Resource goods display the rival elements but are non excludable, while Club Goods contain the non rival element but are excludable (EconPort.org. N.D. PP. 1). Congested toll roads Private good, because some can be excluded from its use by the fee, and rival, because more vehicles on the road indicates one person s use is impacting other individuals using the same road (i.e. less available space). Knowledge Broadly defined as a public good, because one person s use of information does not diminish another s use of the same information (non rival), and one individual cannot prevent another from using the knowledge. Broadly defined because private intellectual property could be considered a private good if others are not allowed to use it. Fish in the ocean Common pool resource, because no one can be excluded from fishing in the ocean however, there is a limited supply of fish (rival). National ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 8. D G Gang Rape Advert Television commercials or print ads are often developed that rely on unusual creative tactics and have very little relevance to the product or service being advertised. Creative personnel in agencies defend the use of these ads by noting that they are novel and provide a way to break through the high level of clutter on television and in magazines. Evaluate the pros and cons of this argument. Find an example of a television commercial or print ad that takes an unusual creative approach and discuss whether you feel it is effective or ineffective. Suicidal Advertising or not? An affective IMC strategy implies thorough understanding of their customers and the identification of the market (demographic) since a product cannot broadly apply to all consumers. D G are targeting young men teenagers, middle and upper class professionals, metrosexual couples and people that are employed in artistic and innovative industries such as interior designers. Why should these categories buy D G products? What is the perceived value customers gain when purchasing D G products? Marketers are aware that some teenagers and young men find it difficult to socialize with women. This advert is informing this category that with D G products socializing with women becomes an easy task (Women will fall for you!). The black box at the background and the white opening symbolize their liberal and rebellious attitude. They are challenging the viewers to think outside the box (lateral thinking black box). They are provoking the viewer to reflect and dig deeper, to search for the connotative meanings behind the rape scene. The background portraying the clouds gives the notion of paradise and transmits the feeling that the woman is giving consent. In other words they are saying that this is not rape but a heavenly experience. This idea might appeal to metrosexual couples. D G is making a statement that they cater for people who are open minded (white opening). One might argue that the idea behind using these images ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 9. Sexualization Of Beauty Pageants When most people think of beauty pageants, they think of Barbie like little girls with their tiny bedazzled dresses and swimsuits strutting their stuff on stage while showing off their million dollar smile. The pageant judges watch their every move looking for a mistake in their routine while an audience of mostly moms screams, applauds, and cheers for them behind the line of judges, showing the girls the exact moves they are supposed to be doing. A beauty pageant is an assembly of girls or womenat which judges select the most beautiful (Cartwright). Beauty pageants are one of the fastest growing businesses in America grossing over 5 billion dollars (Nussbaum). They are usually divided into categories; personality, talent, modeling,... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... They promote a materialistic belief that tells young girls that physical beauty is most important. The number of young girls who are growing up too early is growing rapidly throughout the United States and the rest of the world. Kids are deprived of their childhood because pageants take up all their time and they make them eager to grow up because of all the makeup and glitz. When they want to go outside and play with their friends, they are forced to practice for hours before an upcoming pageant. They grow up way too fast because parents are allowing them to wear revealing clothes and act inappropriately for their age. For example, Windy Dickey dressed her daughter, Paisley, Winner of many Child Beauty Pageants, up in a costume that was exactly the same as Julia Roberts character wore in the movie Pretty Womanthe fitted, skin baring white blouse, the tight blue mini skirt and thigh high, shiny black boots (Canning). These young girls wear tons of makeup, false eyelashes, have their eyebrows done, have fake hair and even flippers which are fake teeth. Beauty pageant contestants may develop a misconception about life and beauty while being involved in them. They may grow up to believe that only physical beauty matters and that it is the primary judge of one s self worth. Pageants can damage the self esteem of a young girl when things do not go as she would hope (Nussbaum). • 10. The Secretary Chant, By Marge Piercy What attitudes does each of the three authors have about the consequences of work? The authors of the three texts all share a similar attitude towards the consequences of work, which is that it can be detrimental to one s physical and mental wellbeing. Author of text One The Secretary Chant, Marge Piercy describes the stressful life of a secretary and how the accumulation of stressful events leads to the secretary feeling mechanical and dehumanised. Piercy implies that, with overwork, people can begin to lose a sense of who they are. In this instance, the Secretary believes she is no longer a human, but instead a part of the office as her voice has been lost in the quantity of work that must be done. Similarly, Steven Poole, who wrote text... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This is further enhanced by the use of emotive language and a detached and melancholy tone. The use of the verb, hang, and the noun, chains, acts as a possible allusion to other historical events of oppression such as slavery. Such vocabulary choices emphasise the way in which the secretary feels trapped and objectified in her own work environment. The secretary feels trapped because of the way that she has been objectified, which suggests that she is only valued for her ability to work like other office equipment, evident in line 1 where she states, my hips are a desk. The mechanical way that the secretary is employed establishes how she no longer feels as though she is a human. Instead, she is simply part of the office and the repetitive onomatopoeic, buzz, and, clicks, that define workplace environments. This is supported by line 21, where the persona states, file me under W because I wonce was a woman. In a similar way, text 2 considers the damaging effect of work through a satirical narrative voice. This is achieved by exploring how humans are essentially slaves of the digital world. When humans go on holiday; an event that epitomises quite the opposite of work, they are still plagued by, the fear that catching up on a fortnight s email will be epically disgusting labour. Whilst the prospect of reading one s emails is not the crux of the article, it acts as a humours anecdote that reminds readers of the dangers of letting the digital world control them. The light hearted narrative voice of the text is emphasised by the use of colloquial terms and inclusive language, such as, that first volume of Karl Ove Knausgard you ve been meaning to read, as it appeals to the demographic of The Guardian and encourages the ... • 11. Realism Vs. Realism Of The United States Realism versus Idealism. This argument is almost as old as the world we live in. The Unites States has gone through a lot of stages in its history. The United States was sometimes realist and sometimes idealist and that led to different presidents, governments and polices. A Realist is a person who believes that the word and the people of the word can t change. They believe that we can make the world a better but the people will still be the same no matter what you do to them. For example Mahan was a realist who believed that a man s role in the world is to clime with his country to the top knowing that some one will claim that spot from you in the future. In the history of the united states there were a lot of examples or realist politicians. One of the first and most important realists is Alexander Hamilton. An Idealist is a person who believes that the people can be changed by education and time. An idealist is a peaceful person who believes that we can solve our conflicts without wars. Same sex physical education classes have more advantages because students have a better work ethic, although if there were no title IX, girls would still be treated unfairly and not receive the attention and materials they should. Co ed physical education has given girls the equal opportunity they should have in their classes. They now are taught the same things as well as in the same class as the boys. It is a positive thing that title IX provided equality but there are also negative aspects that it has brought along. With having boys and girls in the same class male superiority is being shown a lot more than in same sex classes (Lirgg 183). For instance, males are usually very athletic and like to show off their skills in physical education class. This illustrates male superiority because they are the ones usually controlling the games and may not let the girls participate as mach as the boys. For example, a Canadian study by Schneider and Coutts (1982) found that coeducational schools were perceived by students as being more gregarious, group cen tered, friendly, enjoyable, tolerant of noncompliance, spontaneous, and conducive to self confidence and self respect than were same sex schools (Lirgg 183). Pavlov verified by pairing or associating another stimulus (the bell) with food he could train the dogs to salivate. This theory could then be applied to people as well. According to Richard et al (2007) it was found that pairing one stimulus with another stimulus could also provoke a reflexive response in people. The most astonishing thing about this is that he has managed to turn socialism from a taboo in American politics into a norm. His run and prominence has led to 43 percent of Iowa caucus voters to self identifying as socialist (Scher 2016). The problem is that actual socialists are in some cases rooting against Senator Sanders. His candidacy has led to a split amongst socialists, with some feeling that he is a bona fide socialist while others feel is a socialist in name only (Scher 2016). The Green Party, which is probably the most well known party with socialist aims, had 469,627 votes in the 2012 election according to the FEC. Many feel that Sanders has sold out , by pledging to support billionaire backed Hilary Clinton should she win (Scher 2016). Many within the far left feel that Sanders campaign is pulling votes and interest away from true socialist parties and policies, and could weaken the platform overall. • 35. True Freedom By John Stuart Mill And Georg Hegel Wars, death, and other acts of violence have all been part of a process to attain true freedom. However, what is true freedom? John Stuart Mill and Georg Hegel tackle this notion of freedom. Mills states that freedom is when individuals have unlimited liberty, while Hegel says that is a false freedom. He states that freedom is when the individual s morals align with external laws within the nation state. Despite what many say freedom is more similar in Hegel s and Mills than different. We can see this through Hegel s notion of absolutemind and Mill s value of liberty and notion of diversity. God is absolute mind, God is the totality of human thinking and through spirit God is becoming aware of its own self consciousness to reach even higher levels of consciousness. This is the notion of absolute mind according to Hegel, he mentions that during this process of absolute mind of becoming aware of itself. Human history tends to be a Slaughter bench (Hegel 71), reason being because diversity is trying to figure itself out. As seen in his dialectics, patterns which dictates even the absolute spirit, there are two dialectics that he mentions, the ethical and political dialectics. These dialectics contains a thesis which is the original definition of something, an antithesis which is contrary to the thesis. Finally, those two are synthesized to become one, a better solution. It was the individual s decision to let one into power. Of course if a country did not do this, we as Americans would see that as backwards and not right to the point of military intervention when in our own nation we do not get full say in who become president. He describes how the western philosophy has described how to make a better world by just simply giving the individuals more choice in the world. Schwartz then later in the lecture goes on to explain how this ever growing amount of choice can lead to a paralysis of choice. According to Schwartz this paralysis is being exemplified by the amount of choices given to them. This has led to an opposite effect where instead of giving more choices equals a better life, now more choices means no choices at all leading to no choice at all. Schwartz gives another example of cellphones doing Ludacris things such as nose trimming, toothbrush and even a lighter. Here exemplifies how the growing number of choices has led to the elderly simply not getting cell phones or televisions because they cannot understand how to use the call feature or how to change the channel of the television. The vast amount of choices has also lead to the agency of our choices to decease as well. With so many options our decisions rely totally on us according to Schwartz, that if our choice in anything is so much as not perfect, then our decision was a bad decision and one could have made a better decision. I believe the author wrote this play to show that no matter what the time is or where you live your going to have a routine and the cycle of life. The theme is really developed when Rebecca is at the grave yard and goes back for her day of life. She realizes that she never appreciated things that mattered. The choice is not easily made since long I stood (line 3) before coming to a decision. • 55. All The Light We Cannot See By Anthony Doerr Throughout the book, All The Light We Cannot See by Anthony Doerr, there were many symbols that were present. One symbol that stood out to me the most in the book was the radio. This symbol stood out the most because of how the characters manipulated it throughout the story. Overall, I think that this story was about shining light onto the parts of World War II that we don t hear about because it s been buried by the more popular perspectives of World War ...
