How did you attract/address your
audience
For my two minute horror movie “Shortcut” I didn’t want
my horror movie to be targeted only at a niche
audience so I went about researching how I could
make a movie which a mass audience will enjoy...
Audience
My movie is aimed at 13+ certificate so it was consequential
that I didn’t feature adult contents i.e. strong language,
nudity e.t.c.
Seeing as my movie is a horror movie, I had to research if
the watershed rules applied to my movie. Although, it
clearly states that T.V programmes or movies shown on
T.V featuring horror movie but I concluded that since my
movie didn’t have any gruesome or irresponsible scene
then it isn’t applicable to my movie.
Audience Research
 After receiving constructive criticism on how to improve our
horror movie, we had both good comments and bad
comments. Bad comments were mainly about the time shift
as my movie went from light to dark very quickly which
made the movie seem amateur.
 Although my movie is aimed at 13+, I recognise that the
people who responded to our survey are college students
between the age of 16-18, males and females. Through the
result of the questionnaire, it was observed that both gender
take interest in the same leisure activities so it was no doubt
that both genders will enjoy the movie.
Sound as a component
 The sound was created mainly to build suspense and
tension and to manipulate the audience’s feelings and
according to the feedback the sound did exactly that.
To quote a critic from the audience “The sound effects
worked perfectly well with the movie” This shows that the
sound was effective in the aim to attract and address the
audience.
Actors
 My movie incorporated the help of two young actresses
in order to appeal to our demographic. This would help in
terms of our audience relating to the representations of
the young actresses because our audience are around
the same age as our actresses.
 The actresses come from working class/middle class
background however their social class is ambiguous in
the movie so it still relates to the audience.
