Evaluation Five – How
did you attract/address
your audience ?

Examples of
other films
 Another film we would consider to be of a similar target audience
to us, is the film ‘Taken’.The idea of a kidnapping, and loosing
contact from the outside world, was good inspiration for us. And
so by looking at the age rating of this film, as well as how it was
filmed, how intense it was etc. it allowed us to understand how
we could then attract an audience of our own successfully.
 The kidnapping from this film was good inspiration for us – as we
could then watch this scene in detail allowing us to work out the
best way to make it appropriate for our audience (12-18 mainly).
 In watching this scene in particular, we could then decipher what
was appropriate, and what was effective. It came to our
attention when doing this, that for our chosen audience we did
not want to be to explicit or inappropriate – meaning less
became more. With this in mind, we didn’t show the kidnapping,
but rather implied it, making more explicit references later on
(like with the close up of the belt etc.)

Choosing the
music
 The music played a big part in the thriller opening, as ultimately
it’s what bought the whole thing together. Choosing it did
become hard, as finding something that wasn’t cheesy or
comical was difficult. We found that some music made the
audience laugh rather than create an eerie tone, and so this was
hard for us.
 However, once we found our music we understood it fitted and
met our target audience purpose. For example, we were able to
say that it met the thriller genre and audience expectations due
to its subtle intensity and build.
 The music varies from slow and quiet, to fast and pacey – building
on volume in the more action based parts.
 This would be considered to follow basic media conventions as the
music emphasised on the parts where the tension built, and not
so much when there was little action.
UniqueSelling
Point
 The unique selling point for ‘Imperceptible’ would be the basis of
the idea that the kidnapper has links within who he takes. These
two girls find themselves locked in a room together, yet they do
not know why. Both of them have met in passing before – and so
the question arises – why them?
 There’s a few things that we would consider to make our thriller
different to others, this being the set up.Whilst we understand
there are many ‘kidnapping’ stories out there, ours is
approached differently in a sense that it doesn’t reveal too much
– yet does reveal his identity in the opening (something a lot of
these type of films don’t do).We done this, as we decided to
then keep the rest of the information secure and hidden –
making the viewer feel suspense in not knowing why he done
what he done, but being able to recognise him when other
characters later do not.
Social Media
 Social media played a big part in reaching our target audience.
Due to a broad range of our audience being of an age where
social media is a popular site – we used sites such as
Instagram/twitter to address them and keep them updated.
 We held a twitter poll for market research in finding a name for a
film – this meant the people watching the film themselves could
chose what they felt was most appropriate and liked the most.
This was incredibly helpful for us, as it meant we were able to
ask our
 We posted information and photos on what we were doing, and
where else they could find us.This therefore became one of the
best ways to reach our audience as it meant they too – could get
involved.
