Community Corrections Must Be Defined As Orders And Strict...
Community corrections can be defined as orders and strict instructions given to convicted adults
and young ones, which occur in a community setting outside jail or prison. It involves the
supervision and management of offenders by community correction officers in the community. It
usually happens when offenders are imposed to undertake community projects as an alternative to
imprisonment. It can also be a condition of release on parole from prison. Community corrections
bring several benefits to the offender such as learning how to become accountable and how to plan
effectively (National Institute of Justice, 2014).
What It Involves Community corrections involve instilling of corrective behaviors and acceptable
practices to offenders by teaching them how to do new things and in the same time correcting their
mistakes, which made them charged in court. Offenders are required to participate in community
work, appropriate educational programs and assessment and treatment programs. They are managed
and supervised in the community by individuals known as the community correction officers.
Offenders who complete their orders successfully upon identifiable behavior change are allowed to
live freely without any more supervision from the correction officers, and they can interact and
participate actively in community and society building projects.

The Unconverted Self By Jonathan Boyarin Essay
In The Unconverted Self, author Jonathan Boyarin reexamines the relationship between Christian
Europe and the world around it, especially in the context of interreligious dialogue as a means of
defining Christian identity. The common school of thought, as presented in this book, is that
European identity reaches modernity after 1492 with the discovery of the radically different
culture of Indigenous Americans (p. 9). Boyarin argues that this is untrue, as this belief operates
under the incorrect assumption that the European people were a homogenous population (p.9).
Instead, Boyarin seeks to move beyond the concept of two separate Europes, and proposes instead
that this othering that was so critical to define Christian identity was already occurring in pre
contact Europe (p. 1). For this, Boyarin looks to the Jewish and Muslim populations of Europe as a
replacement for the Indigenous American peoples. He asserts that this sense of the other
threatening Christendom existed far before 1492, and outlines the ways in which this conflict in
religious dimensionality was vital to the formation of Christian identity. Boyarin s volume presents
a concise read that reexamines existing scholarship and recontextualizes historical events to create
a convincing argument, as well as provide questions for future scholarship to build upon. However,
there were aspects in this book that were lacking, causing it to be an almost tedious read at parts.

Imagery In The Film NANOOK Of The NORTH
In the film NANOOK OF THE NORTH we are presented with imagery that for the most part had
never been seen by the majority of the population of the world. Robert Flaherty had successfully
brought an entirely unknown culture to the Western world. In the film we get to see the traditional
trading, hunting, fishing and daily tasks of an Inuit familywho for all intents and purposes are
barely touched by modern industry. Indeed, this very notion is implied in the scene where
Nanook gets to listen to a phonograph record at the trading post. The important aspect of
NANOOK OF THE NORTH is that it opened the door to what we would call documentary
filmmaking today. More importantly, the film conveys a sense of what film could be and what it
can be used for, especially in documenting historical events. What we are given are the first steps
in understanding the world around us without the added cost of exploring it ourselves. And while
it has been agreed that many of the scenes in the film were staged, it s still depicts real life Inuit
survival skills. In the seal huntingscene we get to witness Nanook s acute awareness to his natural
environment. He searches the ice for... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Since it has been revealed that Flaherty did not need to film on his toes, that is to say that the
majority of the film was staged, it allows for meticulous framing of the shot. And though this film
is considered documentary, I was still struck by the method in which Flaherty employed Joseph
Campbell s theory on the hero s journey. I felt the film followed the traditional method of
storytelling in films by establishing the isolation of the hero. We saw Nanook fishing alone,
initially hunting alone and all within the confines of this desolate, cold area. Sadly, it is understood
that the person who played the part of Nanook died alone from starvation while out on a hunting

The Pros And Cons Of Redundancy
Redundancy: This is a legal term that arises where an individual is either dismissed, put on short
term or lay off (Grimes and Horgan, 1988), although this is done because of the legal
implications and employers don t like to be sued by employees for such reasons because of the
lump sum accrued to it as damages or penalty. There are identifiable reasons for such act which
could be either the employer has intended to cease to carry on business or the reason for
employment of the individual no longer exists (fewer persons are required). Nonetheless, the
employee (provided he has satisfied the Social Welfare Act of 1952 (as amended) must be
employed by the employer for minimum of 2 years and must be insured under the Social Welfare
Act) is able to establish a ground of redundancy, and it behoves the employer to justify the
selection of redundancy is genuine and in a fair manner(Faulkner, 2008), if not, the damages paid

The common characteristics of the three religions, including their ethics
The three religions are monotheistic; this is to mean that each one of them believes in the existence
of one deity. In Islam and Judaism, this is quite clear but in Christianity among some factions
though they still believe in one God, this God is believed to be made of three entities. This is,
however, not a denial of the one God but a way to show the complexity of religion (Learning centre,
2015). All the three religion believe their god to be the source of everything that ever existed.
They all believe that god not only created all that exists but also cares about his creation and their

Andrew Jackson Unlucky
Andrew Jackson should not be on the $20 dollar bill. There are many reasons why Andrew
Jackson should not be representing our country by being on the $20 dollar bill. He was one of the
most controversial presidents of all time. He was so controversial that people petitioned the
government to get him off our currency.i He had a very bad temper, he destroyed the economy, and
he was very racist.
Andrew Jackson s mother volunteered as a nurse for American prisoners but got cholera and died.
His oldest brother volunteered to fight in the war but died of heat exhaustion and sickness at the
Battle of Stono Ferry. In 1781, Andrew Jackson and his brother Robert were capture by the
British, and Rober soon died of smallpox. Andrew Jackson blamed the British for killing his

Andrew Jackson in the newspaper, which upset Andrew even more. But, when Charels called

Bilbo s Archetypes In The Hobbit
One little hobbit s life shall change forever with adventure lurking by for tea. Bilbo displays three
archetypes throughout his adventure. One of them is the call to adventure , where s the Tookish
side of him awakens, and Gandalf presents Bilbo with an adventure, though without giving him an
alternative. A second one is the magic item , for instance the magic ring. And ultimately, the
supernatural aid , patently Gandalf for he is a wizard. Bilbo Bagginsof Bag End, Under Hill has
invariably led a quiet and boring life. Well, at least he did until thirteen dwarves came rapping at
his door. Bilbo displays the archetype the magic item when he finds the magic ring in the goblin
tunnels. Then off he went from door to door, until his following had grown to twelve none of them
any to nimble, what with the dark, and what with their long imprisonment { Tolkien, The Hobbit
174}. This displays Bilbo rescuing his comrades from the Elvenking s oubliettes with the
backing of the ring. Dazzlingly marvelous! Perfect! Flawless! Staggering! exclaimed Bilbo
aloud, but what he thought inside was: Old fool! Why there is a large patch in the hollow of his

Bilbo to adventure. Yes, you have! Twice now. My pardon. I give it you. In fact I will go so far as
to send you on this adventure. Very amusing for me, very good for you and profitable too, very
likely, if you ever get over it {Tolkien, The Hobbit 19}. This demonstrates Gandalf being the call to

David Essay
David, who was destined to be the second king of Israel, destroyed the Philistine giant Goliath with
stone and a sling. Donatello, Verrocchio, Michelangelo, and Bernini each designed a sculpture of
David. However, the sculptures are drastically different from one another. Each one is unique in its
own certain way.
Donatello, whose David was the first life size nude statue since Classical times, struck a balance
between Classicism and the realism by presenting a very real image of an Italian peasant boy in the
form of a Classical nude figure. Although Donatello was inspired by classical figures, he did not
choose a Greek youth in his prime as a model for his David. Instead, he chooses a barely developed
adolescent boy whose arms appeared ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Donatello balanced realistic elements with an idealized Classically inspired torso whereas
Verrocchio s goal was absolutely realism in minutedetails. The sculptures also differ in terms of
technique. Donatello s David is mainly a closed form sculpture. The objects and limbs are centered
around an S curve stance, which balanced his human form. Verrocchio s sculpture is more open.
For example, the bared sword and elbow are sticking out, away from the central core.
quot;Donatello s graceful pose had been replaced in the Verrocchio, by a jaunty contrapposto that
enhances David s image of self confidence quot; (Fichner Rathus 334).
Michelangelo was yet another artist who sculpted David. His reputation as a sculptor was
established when he carved his David at the edge of twenty seven from a single piece of
relatively unworkable marble. Unlike the David s of Donatello and Verrocchio, Michelangelo s
David is not shown after conquering his enemy. Instead, he is portrayed as a quot;most beautiful
animal preparing to kill not by savagery and brute force, but by intellect and skill quot; (Fichner
Rathus 345). Cast over his shoulder is David s sling, and the stone is clutched in his right hand, his
veins in chief anticipation of the fight. Michelangelo s David depicts the ideal youth who has just
reached manhood and is capable of great physical and intellectual feats, which is part of the

The retail company which has been selected is Next, due to the long successful leadership skills
from CEO Simon Wolfson. This essay is going to look at how Simon has managed to keep Next
running and how he successfully leads his management team.
Looking at the history of Next it is seen that the previous CEO David Jones saw potential in
Simon, from when he was working for them as a buyer back in the early nineties, helping them to
rebuild their shares as they had fallen to around ten pence. Simon has also been on the board since
1997 helping to plan of the company putting it together.
How Simon has managed to take over from David Jones and how has he kept the business running
successfully.
Simon Wolfson was appointed the role Chief Executive Officerin 2001, the role was passed down
from David Jones who was the previous Chief Executive Officer from 1988. It mentions in a report
from the Telegraph (20th May 2001) it helped even more that Jones spotted his talents early on and
promoted him into ever more senior, precarious positions. If Wolfson s promotion had been blind
nepotism, the whole company would have suffered the consequences by now. Instead it has

Essay about Greek and Japanese Architecture
Greek and Japanese Architecture
For a great many years, architecture has been a breaking point for different artisticeras in history.
Some of the most famous works of art have been chapels, temples, and tombs. Among the most
dominant and influential eras of great architecture are the sophisticated, stoic Greeco Roman
periods and the more mystical, elemental Japanese eras. These two very distinct and very different
eras have more in common than you may realize.
When work began on the Parthenon in 447 BC, the Athenian Empire was at the height of its power.

Currently, Japan s modern architecture is having a striking influence on global architecture.
Japanese architecture is an inherent part of Japanese culture, and even Tokyo s most modern high
tech buildings draw their inspiration from old Japanese design.
Japan s ancient castles and palaces, timber houses, tatami mat tea rooms and Zen gardens,
Shinto shrines, and Buddhist temples, as well as the latest shopping centers, sports facilities,
residential complexes, office towers, department stores, and high tech structures are some excellent
examples of Japanese Architecture (hkuhist2.hku.hk).
Japan is described as a country of wood, and the reverence of natural materials. The depths of the
love and admiration that the Japanese people have for wood are famous, which is similar to the
Greek love of pristine marble and its smooth surfaces. This can be seen in an old Japanese
expression plants and trees all have something to say , Japanese believe that trees have a soul and
say they can sense spirits, or kami , within them. It is trees that form the core which nurtures the
sensibilities about nature held by the Japanese people. It is thus natural for architecture in Japan to
be based on wood. Many structures are made of wood, ranging from shrines and temples to palaces
and homes, and in doing so grand structures have been created (Stokstad).

Augustine s Letter To The Ephesians
The journey of Saint Augustine into finding his faith is depicted through his writings in
Confessions. Augustine was born in the year 354 AD in Hippo, a region in North Africa. Today, he
is regarded to be one of the most important influencers of the development of early Christianity.
However, he is not a typical saint; It took him years of philosophizing and experiential learning to
be able to accept and appreciate the Christian faith. Despite pressures from Augustine s religiously
devout mother Monica, who spent her life trying to sway Augustine in the direction of Christianity,
Augustine firmly held the belief that Christianity was far too simple to fulfill his spiritual desires.
Augustine constantly wrestled with an internal struggle of... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

Paul s letter to the Ephesians is written while he is held in prison. He proposes a guideline based
on the gospel to explain how to live a life filled with God s grace. Paul writes that before the
introduction of Jesus teachings, people were trapped in a life of sin, hopelessness, and greed.
Now, Jesus has provided a way for people to manifest a new form of humanity. This humanity is
meant to be celebrated through God s grace. Although Paul is in prison, he is still able to look to
God to help him, while appreciating the gift of God s grace. This emphasized how Paul is a
model for followers of Jesus because he looks toward his faith to guide him through a troubled
time. Paul sets up a conclusion to his letter by comparing the principles of an old humanity
versus the desired principles of a new humanity. For example, Paul encourages truth over lies,
peace over anger or hatred, and forgiveness over retribution. In other terms, Paul is discouraging
sinful attributes and encouraging the attributes that will lead to living a faithful life under the
word of God. Paul concludes his message to the Ephesians with a passage that provides a
summation of what it takes to live life as a devout and true follower of Jesus. He writes, Put on

When you look up hero in the dictionary it reads: a person, typically a man, who is admired or

Captain America. I probably would have given the same type of answer. Now that I m older, I have

In the definition it states typically a man . Besides my father, the rest of my heroes are women.
Other people might know a ton of male figures that they consider heroes. That is great, but I feel
like typically a man does not need to be in the definition of the word hero. This makes it sound

Negotiating Agreement Without Giving In, (New York: Penguin Books, 1983). In this classic text,
Fisher and Ury describe their four principles for effective negotiation. They also describe three
common obstacles to negotiation and discuss ways to overcome those obstacles. Fisher and Ury

Negotiators may not be speaking to each other, but may simply be grandstanding for their
respective constituencies. The parties may not be listening to each other, but may instead be
planning their own responses. Even when the parties are speaking to each other and are listening,
misunderstandings may occur. To combat these problems, the parties should employ active
listening. The listeners should give the speaker their full attention, occasionally summarizing the
speaker s points to confirm their understanding. It is important to remember that understanding
the other s case does not mean agreeing with it. Speakers should direct their speech toward the
other parties and keep focused on what they are trying to communicate. Each side should avoid
blaming or attacking the other, and should speak about themselves. Generally the best way to
deal with people problems is to prevent them from arising. People problems are less likely to
come up if the parties have a good relationship, and think of each other as partners in negotiation
rather than as adversaries. Focus on Interests Good agreements focus on the parties interests, rather
than their positions. As Fisher and Ury explain, Your position is something you have decided
upon. Your interests are what caused you to so decide. [p. 42] Defining a problem in terms of
positions means that at least one party will lose the dispute. When a problem is defined in terms of

Escalation Of Conflict
The escalation of conflict is not the only problem the increased number of private military
contractors bring. These contractors have a different object and priority than the stationed troops
in conflicts. The contractor s number one priority is protecting their asset, as the private
corporations know that if the important figure they are assigned to protect gets captured or killed,
it would be devastating for the business and most likely they would lose the funding the
government provides. Since the priority of the contractors is to keep the asset safe, they will often
be very aggressive, securing perimeters and stopping any vehicles that get too close. There has been

had large amounts of cocaine and blocks of hashish and would run around naked. He continued,
stating that often the guards would step out into the balcony and point their automatic rifles at
Iraqi buildings, opening fire. However, this kind of behavior is not limited the Blackwater, as in
2005 a trophy video was posted by contractors affiliate with Aegis Defense Services, showing
presumable Irish and Scottish contractors shooting randomly at Iraqi civilians. Not only does this
showcase the complete lack of civilians lives, but shows these private military forces has no
supervision representing the American and foreign troops and often are very careless, shown
through their rampant drug usage and careless trigger discipline, which is the reality of the
contractors behavior. These contractors often operate out the judicial system, making them above
the law. Laws such as the Coalition Provisional Authority Order Number 17 states that Iraqi laws

exemptions create a lack of responsibility and accountability and often can result to impunity.
Contractors that have participated in war crimes such as the Nisour Square Massacre and the Abu

advertisement as a whole. The primary means of appeal for this commercial and all Geico
commercials over the past few years is humor. This particular commercial makes fun of old
MacDonald s spelling ability. In the nursery rhyme, an animal name is said followed by the
sounds e i e i o. The commercial flips this so that this is the way old MacDonald spells. This is
further exaggerated by the fact he is put into a spelling bee setting.
It may be a shock that Geico is actually owned by a much larger company. Berkshire Hathaway
Incorporated is the company that owns Geico. In fact, it also owns several other companies such
as Dairy Queen, Fruit of the Loom, Lubrizol and Helzberg Diamonds to name a few. A man by the
name of Warren Buffett the CEO of Berkshire Hathaway helped to gain better advertisements for
Geico by going through different advertising agencies. The advertising agency that Geico has had
the most success with by far is the Martin Agency. This agency has helped to develop Geico s
most famous advertisement campaigns. The Geico Gecko was actually brought about because of
the Martin Agency. It was very common for people to mispronounce Geico as gecko this sparked
an ingenious idea. The company would embrace this and make a gecko the official

Argumentative Essay On The Voting Rights Act
It has been 52 years since the 1965 Voting Rights Act was put into action, less than a lifetime, and
yet it has been easy for the American population to look away from policy changes and
ramifications within the Act. Many people today, believe that everyone has the ability to vote if
they are a citizen 18 or over, but this has not been the case ever, even in today s modern society.
Still, there is a difference between voter restriction laws before 1965, and policies in 2017. It
seems as America advances into the future, these racist policies and laws have become more subtle,
gerrymandering and voter id policies have become the new literacy tests that prevent black and
marginalized voters from votingin recent elections. Another issue that has transpired recently is the
2013 Shelby County V. Holder, which has lifted government involvement within the Southern
States, giving them the power to change voting laws as they see fit.
One of the current arguments is if the Voting Right Act is relevant and necessary in society. Yes, it
is because racism still exists within the system. And yet, the act needs to be written in a way that
supports voter rights more than state rights, and local government rights. You can have voters
without a state, but what is a state without voters?
In order to fully understand the controversy of the Voting Rights Act, it is critical to know all of the
work that was done to get the Act off of the ground, and it is also imperative to know about the

The Verb “Google” Has Become A Staple In The Majority Of
The verb Google has become a staple in the majority of internet user s vocabularies; dominating

A Midsummer Night s Dream Vs Hoffman
Love triangles or love squares are often featured in romantic comedies today. William
Shakespeare introduced the genre and perfected it when he wrote A Midsummer Night s Dream
(Bevington). A Midsummer Night s Dream is one of the most popular plays written by
Shakespeare. In 1999, Michael Hoffman directed a film adaptation of the play under the same
name. While Hoffman kept true to the dialogue, he changed and added some details to the play
and consequently, nullified the play s mirth and good humour. The movie and the play are similar
but differ from each other in various ways. Shakespeare set the story in Athens in the 1500s and
Hoffman set it in an Italian village in the 1900s. Theseus is the Duke of Athens and Hippolyta is

The State Of Texas Gained Its Independence
The state of Texas gained its independence on December 29, 1845 after six and a half enduring
months of ceaseless brawls. The colonization of Texas first began with Stephen F. Austin, whom is
also recognized as the Father of Texas. Stephen began the uprising for self reliance against the
Army of Mexico, led by Antonio LГіpez de Santa Anna, when he proposed opening up Texasto a
swamp of immigrants. This action of his branched off throughout the years into countless battles for
the Lonestar state to become individualistic. The first battle of the Revolution was the Battle of
Gonzales, ending with only two casualties and the victory of the Texas soldiers. The Alamo is one
of the most memorable engagements within this period of time, where the legendary cry,
Remember the Alamo! originated from. The Alamo still stands tall today and is visited by many
each year, and represents the Texan soldier s heroic opposition to injustice versus the government of
Mexico. The Battle of San Jacinto was the shortest and final confrontation of the Texas Revolution.
This resulted in a Texan victory, and an overall win for the Texian
soldiers as they wash away
Mexico with their statement of independence. The Texas Revolution was a conflict in the
nineteenth century between the people of Texas and Mexican soldiers. This revolution led the the
independence of the Lone Star state, and opened floodgates to numerous significant battles along
the way. This rebellion included various engagements,

Scout Finch Real Courage
Harper Lee wrote To Kill a Mockingbird at a small town of Maycomb, Alabama, after The Great
Depression. The novel talked about racism, prejudices, and social rules which caused society to
be unfair. Scout Finch is a little girl who is the main character in the novel. Her characteristics are
courageous, equal, and emotional by nature, which make her get many troubles when she first goes
to school. However, she gradually grows up and becomes more mature and understandable through
each chapter by learning and overcoming many troubles in her life. In particular, although Scout s
formal schooling is disappointing, there are many valuable lessons which she learns from real life:

For example, white people and black people cannot be categorized two different types of people
when white people bring many disadvantages on black people because they only have different
thoughts. Because all people are human beings, they should be treated equally and respectfully
to make the society become fair. However, in the article To Kill a Mockingbird, Jem said, There s

Social Expectations Of Women In Dracula
Women and Sex in Bram Stoker s Dracula
The novel Dracula, written by Bram Stoker, is a very dark and gothic story that has many
themes. Although the most controversial theme throughout the story is Stokers opinion on
women during the Victorian era. The novel was written in 1897, a time where chastity, and
etiquette were expected to be demonstrated by every model citizen. However there was a huge
controversial issue during that time about women. More specifically the social expectations of
women. Women during the Victorian era women were expected to behave appropriately to social
standards at all times, especially around men. Although there was a large majority that supported
the idea of The New Woman , which was a term for a new type of women. One where the social
expectations of women were completely disregarded as they felt they had constrictions with these
social expectations and preferred to be shown as equals. This idea of The New Woman is shown in
the story Dracula and the author, Bram Stoker, uses the characters and their unfortunate situations
to express his opinion on this new concept: The New Woman.
The New Woman was an idea in the Victorian era that proposed women should not have to follow
certain social standards. In an article by Carol A. Senf she explains that The New Woman had
certain characteristics that went against the social standard. The New Woman was often a

Fluctuating Gas Prices Will Never End Essay
These days, gas prices seem to be a weekly topic on local and national news channels. Every time
there is some type of fluctuation, it causes an uproar, usually because it is a difference of ten cents
or greater. The reasons as to why is definitely a mystery with new myths popping up each day and
almost all the supposed reasons being incorrect. The real discussion should be not as to what
causes the price change but how it affects our everyday lives. Should we adjust our way of life to
accommodate less driving or have we already? In the U.S., we saw gas prices go as low as $1.75
and as high as $3.00 in 2005. In 2006, we saw almost the same trend with a low of $2.10 and so far

Hurricane Katrina alone took out about 25 percent of U.S. crude oil production and about 15
percent of U.S. refinery capacity which caused quite an increase in manufacturing costs. The
largest factor that has had the most impact on the overall rise in gas price is the removal of
methyl tertiary butyl ether that started in 2003. Due to the threat of groundwater
contamination, the use of the gasoline additive MTBE has been in the process of being phased
out for several years. More than half of the States have already banned the use of MTBE and you
can clearly see its affect since gas prices started its biggest increase in the same year that
production had to change to accommodate the removal. Hybrid cars are now a fad to save the
environment and could be a way to cut down on usage. They use a battery to supplement some
power therefore using less gas. You could say this is the answer but in reality, while it does help
with emissions, which is a positive factor if you want to save some trees, cost wise, it s actually
worse. In a report released by Consumer Reports earlier this year, they showed that every single
hybrid model car that has ever been made is more expensive to own and operate that its non
hybrid counterpart. So while you save a few pennies on the gallon when you gas up, you spend
an average of two thousand to ten thousand more over a five year span to drive a hybrid and that s

Jane Austen presents love and marriage in many ways in the novel

Jane Austen opens Pride and Prejudice with a statement:

When Mr Bennet speaks to his beloved daughter Lizzie, he feelingly says to her,
My dear child, let me not have the grief of seeing you unable to respect your partner in life. You
know not what you are about.
This happens when Mr Darcy has just proposed to Elizabeth. When I question why Mr and Mrs
Bennet s marriage is so unsuccessful, I am faced with three points that I think contribute to their
marital problem. Between Mr and Mrs Bennet there is no intellectual equality. Mr
Bennet is clever, but on the other hand his wife isn t, in fact Mrs
Bennet is a fool! She does not understand her husband in the slightest manner, and so Mr Bennet

What is an annotated bibliography? When and why is it used? Also, what are in text citations and
why do we use them? These are a few questions that we will be addressing in this paper, in addition

cooperation and diplomacy must be implemented to prevent the extreme suffering of millions of
people and halt the causes of genocide before murder and military intervention are necessary.
Currently, one particular conflict strongly resembles the East Pakistan genocide, namely the war in
Syria. The civil war in Syria has caused 60,000 deaths, mostly rebel soldiers and Sunni civilians, as

Forensic Veterinary Pathology
Forensic veterinary pathology: non drowning asphyxia Introduction To ancient Greeks asphuxia
meant without pulse , a definition that was transformed in the mid nineteenth century to denote
suffocation . Although modern medical dictionaries often differ in their exact definitions of
asphyxia, all refer to oxygen deprivation often combined with failure to eliminate carbon dioxide .
Life depends on oxygen and deprivation of oxygen causes cell injury or death due to decreased
oxidative respiration 1. Oxygen deprivation can occur due to failure of: uptake, transfer across the
alveolar capillary membrane into the blood, transport in the blood from lungs to tissues, utilization
within the tissues and inadequate environmental supply 2.

Dow Chemical Case Study Essay
Dow Chemical Case When PetroquГmica Bahia Blanca S.A. (PBB) began the process of becoming
privatized by the Argentine government, Dow Chemicals saw the acquisition of this company as a
golden opportunity to become the leading polyethylene player in Latin America. Dow Chemical s
was already a major player in the chemicals (ethylene), plastics (polyethylene), and agricultural
products industries holding position as a low cost producer. Breaking each segment of their
business down into these categories respectively, Dow Chemicals was able to generate annual
revenues of 20.2 billion making them the leader in market position worldwide for some chemical

W. E. B. Du Bois s Criticism Of Claude Mckay ´ S Home To...
Among the critical responses to Home to Harlem, W.E.B. Du Bois s criticism of Claude McKay s
text seemingly speaks from an essentialist perspective. Du Bois simply found that McKay s
representation of black culture within his novel reproduced stereotypical and crude images which
white audiences desired in the midst of the Harlem Renaissance. In response to Du Bois, McKay
argued that the novel was created for a black audience, but, to delve even deeper outside of
Claude McKay s views, it could be argued that Home to Harlem does not produce a single identity
at all. Rather, Home to Harlem s perpetual mobility and movement invests in the idea of black
identity as production rather than as the exhibition of a collective one true self ... Show more content

Had Felice not offered up Chicago as a new place of residence, Jake would have wound up
exactly how he d started, having been thinking a gitting away from the stinking mess [of
Harlem], a place he d previously designated as home, to go on off to the sea again (McKay 322).
Throughout the text, Jake frequents a variety of unique places, from Harlem to Pittsburgh to
Brooklyn to the train in which he had taken [a] job on the railroad (McKay 125). McKay s
audience is privy to a plethora of details regarding Jake s rousing endeavors in every new
location he discovers. Home to Harlem s audience watches as that strange, elusive something in
Jake catches him and has him [roaming] away and wandering to some unknown new port,
caught ... by some romantic rhythm, color, face, passing through cabarets, saloons, speakeasies,
and so on; in short, the emphasis on Jake s travels is on his restlessness in his desire for
movement rather than a search for some inner truth he may hold (McKay 41). Thus, the
picaresque novel employment of the episodic form is vital for Home to Harlem as it allows for
the motif of movement to be used for its potential. Not only that, though, but it can easily be
inferred that Claude McKay designed his novel to be structured in such a way with a degree of
intentionality. For whatever reason, McKay understood that an episodic format was the best to
display Jake s story. Thus, his audience must

The Growing Epidemic of World Poverty Essay
Poverty is one of the biggest problems in the world today and it just keeps growing. Poverty is
when you have either no money or you don t have enough money to support yourself or your
family. Poverty is one of the biggest issues in the world if not the biggest. Absolute poverty is
when you don t have clothes, food, shelter, health, and occupation. In everyplace in the worldthere
is somebody in poverty. According to Anup Shah Almost half the world over 3 billion people live
on less than $2.50 a day . I think that poverty will one day be fixed but it will probably take a long
time.
Poverty is important because it is all over the world and some people are in poverty because of
their country s leader. Poverty has been around since the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

Poverty impacts other countries that are near a country in poverty because poverty spreads
overtime to other places. Poverty affects a lot of people and places all over the world and that is
why it is such a big issue.
So what can we do to help put an end to the problem known as poverty? Well we could fund
organizations giving care packages or supplies like books, food, clothing, and shelters. If natural
disasters are what caused that nations poverty to rise we could get other countries to help rebuild
the broken structures. If we ignore poverty though it will just grow and grow until one day we
can never control it and the world will be consumed by poverty. Nations need our help to end
poverty and we may do it eventually. It would take a really long time though to eliminate poverty
all together but it will one day be eliminated.
If I had to think of a way to end poverty is try to make a fundraiser or get some people to donate to
someone in poverty. I think that if people understood what poverty does to people they would do
all they could to help people in poverty. Maybe it can spread across the country and we can work
together as a country to fix this issue. What will you do to try and stop poverty from spreading?
So poverty will and always will be this world s biggest problem unless we find a way to stop it from
growing out of our control. Somebody needs to step up and stop poverty from growing. So will
that person be you that

Technological There have been many advances in the steel industry, especially many from Nucor.
Although the steel industry hasn t typically been seen as a technological industry, a lot of
technology is needed to run the equipment and milling processes. A new development is the twin
shell electric arc furnace, which would help mini mills increase production, lower costs, and take
market share, according to the case study. The article goes on further to describe the most important
advances in technology, saying, Today s most productive steelmaking facilities incorporate
advanced metallurgical practices, sophisticated process control sensors, state of the art computer
controls, and the latest refinements in continuous casting and rolling mill technology. Technology
is needed to make the best products in the most efficient manner, and the steel industry will see
more efficient and positive changes as technology gets better.

  • 2. Community Corrections Must Be Defined As Orders And Strict... Community corrections can be defined as orders and strict instructions given to convicted adults and young ones, which occur in a community setting outside jail or prison. It involves the supervision and management of offenders by community correction officers in the community. It usually happens when offenders are imposed to undertake community projects as an alternative to imprisonment. It can also be a condition of release on parole from prison. Community corrections bring several benefits to the offender such as learning how to become accountable and how to plan effectively (National Institute of Justice, 2014). What It Involves Community corrections involve instilling of corrective behaviors and acceptable practices to offenders by teaching them how to do new things and in the same time correcting their mistakes, which made them charged in court. Offenders are required to participate in community work, appropriate educational programs and assessment and treatment programs. They are managed and supervised in the community by individuals known as the community correction officers. Offenders who complete their orders successfully upon identifiable behavior change are allowed to live freely without any more supervision from the correction officers, and they can interact and participate actively in community and society building projects. • 3. The Unconverted Self By Jonathan Boyarin Essay In The Unconverted Self, author Jonathan Boyarin reexamines the relationship between Christian Europe and the world around it, especially in the context of interreligious dialogue as a means of defining Christian identity. The common school of thought, as presented in this book, is that European identity reaches modernity after 1492 with the discovery of the radically different culture of Indigenous Americans (p. 9). Boyarin argues that this is untrue, as this belief operates under the incorrect assumption that the European people were a homogenous population (p.9). Instead, Boyarin seeks to move beyond the concept of two separate Europes, and proposes instead that this othering that was so critical to define Christian identity was already occurring in pre contact Europe (p. 1). For this, Boyarin looks to the Jewish and Muslim populations of Europe as a replacement for the Indigenous American peoples. He asserts that this sense of the other threatening Christendom existed far before 1492, and outlines the ways in which this conflict in religious dimensionality was vital to the formation of Christian identity. Boyarin s volume presents a concise read that reexamines existing scholarship and recontextualizes historical events to create a convincing argument, as well as provide questions for future scholarship to build upon. However, there were aspects in this book that were lacking, causing it to be an almost tedious read at parts. The Unconverted Self uses the history ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 5. Imagery In The Film NANOOK Of The NORTH In the film NANOOK OF THE NORTH we are presented with imagery that for the most part had never been seen by the majority of the population of the world. Robert Flaherty had successfully brought an entirely unknown culture to the Western world. In the film we get to see the traditional trading, hunting, fishing and daily tasks of an Inuit familywho for all intents and purposes are barely touched by modern industry. Indeed, this very notion is implied in the scene where Nanook gets to listen to a phonograph record at the trading post. The important aspect of NANOOK OF THE NORTH is that it opened the door to what we would call documentary filmmaking today. More importantly, the film conveys a sense of what film could be and what it can be used for, especially in documenting historical events. What we are given are the first steps in understanding the world around us without the added cost of exploring it ourselves. And while it has been agreed that many of the scenes in the film were staged, it s still depicts real life Inuit survival skills. I felt the film followed the traditional method of storytelling in films by establishing the isolation of the hero. We saw Nanook fishing alone, initially hunting alone and all within the confines of this desolate, cold area. Sadly, it is understood that the person who played the part of Nanook died alone from starvation while out on a hunting ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The Pros And Cons Of Redundancy Redundancy: This is a legal term that arises where an individual is either dismissed, put on short term or lay off (Grimes and Horgan, 1988), although this is done because of the legal implications and employers don t like to be sued by employees for such reasons because of the lump sum accrued to it as damages or penalty. There are identifiable reasons for such act which could be either the employer has intended to cease to carry on business or the reason for employment of the individual no longer exists (fewer persons are required). Nonetheless, the employee (provided he has satisfied the Social Welfare Act of 1952 (as amended) must be employed by the employer for minimum of 2 years and must be insured under the Social Welfare Act) is able to establish a ground of redundancy, and it behoves the employer to justify the selection of redundancy is genuine and in a fair manner(Faulkner, 2008), if not, the damages paid is a sum payment to the employee, calculated by reference to the length of the employee s service and normal weekly wages at the date of dismissal as stipulated in the Irish Redundancy Payments... In Islam and Judaism, this is quite clear but in Christianity among some factions though they still believe in one God, this God is believed to be made of three entities. This is, however, not a denial of the one God but a way to show the complexity of religion (Learning centre, 2015). All the three religion believe their god to be the source of everything that ever existed. Donatello, Verrocchio, Michelangelo, and Bernini each designed a sculpture of David. However, the sculptures are drastically different from one another. Each one is unique in its own certain way. Donatello, whose David was the first life size nude statue since Classical times, struck a balance between Classicism and the realism by presenting a very real image of an Italian peasant boy in the form of a Classical nude figure. The parties may not be listening to each other, but may instead be planning their own responses. Even when the parties are speaking to each other and are listening, misunderstandings may occur. To combat these problems, the parties should employ active listening. The listeners should give the speaker their full attention, occasionally summarizing the speaker s points to confirm their understanding. It is important to remember that understanding the other s case does not mean agreeing with it. Speakers should direct their speech toward the other parties and keep focused on what they are trying to communicate. Each side should avoid blaming or attacking the other, and should speak about themselves. Generally the best way to deal with people problems is to prevent them from arising. People problems are less likely to come up if the parties have a good relationship, and think of each other as partners in negotiation rather than as adversaries. Many people today, believe that everyone has the ability to vote if they are a citizen 18 or over, but this has not been the case ever, even in today s modern society. Still, there is a difference between voter restriction laws before 1965, and policies in 2017. The novel was written in 1897, a time where chastity, and etiquette were expected to be demonstrated by every model citizen. However there was a huge controversial issue during that time about women. More specifically the social expectations of women. Women during the Victorian era women were expected to behave appropriately to social standards at all times, especially around men. Although there was a large majority that supported the idea of The New Woman , which was a term for a new type of women. One where the social expectations of women were completely disregarded as they felt they had constrictions with these social expectations and preferred to be shown as equals. This idea of The New Woman is shown in the story Dracula and the author, Bram Stoker, uses the characters and their unfortunate situations to express his opinion on this new concept: The New Woman. Every time there is some type of fluctuation, it causes an uproar, usually because it is a difference of ten cents or greater. The reasons as to why is definitely a mystery with new myths popping up each day and almost all the supposed reasons being incorrect. The real discussion should be not as to what causes the price change but how it affects our everyday lives. Should we adjust our way of life to accommodate less driving or have we already? In the U.S., we saw gas prices go as low as $1.75 and as high as $3.00 in 2005. In 2006, we saw almost the same trend with a low of $2.10 and so far we have leveled out around $3.00 or so. Hurricane Katrina alone took out about 25 percent of U.S. crude oil production and about 15 percent of U.S. refinery capacity which caused quite an increase in manufacturing costs. The largest factor that has had the most impact on the overall rise in gas price is the removal of methyl tertiary butyl ether that started in 2003. Due to the threat of groundwater contamination, the use of the gasoline additive MTBE has been in the process of being phased out for several years. More than half of the States have already banned the use of MTBE and you can clearly see its affect since gas prices started its biggest increase in the same year that production had to change to accommodate the removal. Hybrid cars are now a fad to save the environment and could be a way to cut down on usage. They use a battery to supplement some power therefore using less gas. You could say this is the answer but in reality, while it does help with emissions, which is a positive factor if you want to save some trees, cost wise, it s actually worse. In a report released by Consumer Reports earlier this year, they showed that every single hybrid model car that has ever been made is more expensive to own and operate that its non hybrid counterpart. So while you save a few pennies on the gallon when you gas up, you spend an average of two thousand to ten thousand more over a five year span to drive a hybrid and that s after you calculate your gas savings. Jane Austen opens Pride and Prejudice with a statement: It is a truth universally acknowledged that a single man in possession of a good fortune must want be in want of a wife. The VA clinicians are taking themselves off the hook by transferring blame onto Thomas claiming, that it s all in (his) head. In the future, international cooperation and diplomacy must be implemented to prevent the extreme suffering of millions of people and halt the causes of genocide before murder and military intervention are necessary. In response to Du Bois, McKay argued that the novel was created for a black audience, but, to delve even deeper outside of Claude McKay s views, it could be argued that Home to Harlem does not produce a single identity at all.
