CFD analysis is incredibly effective at solving mysteries and improving the performance of complex systems!
Here's a great example: At a large natural gas-fired power plant, where they use waste heat to generate steam and energy, they were puzzled that their boiler wasn't producing as much steam as expected.
R&R and Tetra Engineering Group Inc. were asked to solve the issue with reduced steam production.
An inspection had shown that a significant amount of hot flue gas was bypassing the boiler tubes, where the heat was supposed to be transferred.
R&R Consult conducted a CFD analysis, which revealed that 6.3% of the flue gas was bypassing the boiler tubes without transferring heat. The analysis also showed that the flue gas was instead being directed along the sides of the boiler and between the modules that were supposed to capture the heat. This was the cause of the reduced performance.
Based on our results, Tetra Engineering installed covering plates to reduce the bypass flow. This improved the boiler's performance and increased electricity production.

This paper addresses the vulnerability of deep learning models, particularly convolutional neural networks
(CNN)s, to adversarial attacks and presents a proactive training technique designed to counter them. We
introduce a novel volumization algorithm, which transforms 2D images into 3D volumetric representations.
When combined with 3D convolution and deep curriculum learning optimization (CLO), itsignificantly improves
the immunity of models against localized universal attacks by up to 40%. We evaluate our proposed approach
using contemporary CNN architectures and the modified Canadian Institute for Advanced Research (CIFAR-10
and CIFAR-100) and ImageNet Large Scale Visual Recognition Challenge (ILSVRC12) datasets, showcasing
accuracy improvements over previous techniques. The results indicate that the combination of the volumetric
input and curriculum learning holds significant promise for mitigating adversarial attacks without necessitating
adversary training.

41. Characteristics of HNG Tempered Glass:
1. Tempered glass is four to five times stronger than annealed glass of the same size and thickness against
impact.
2. Tempered glass has higher thermal strength, and it can withstand high temperature changes up to 250°C.
3. Tempered glass is considered as safety glass. It is difficult to break and even in the event of a breakage,
disintegrates into small relatively harmless globules.
4. Tempering does not alter the basic characteristics of glass such as light transmission and solar radiant heat
properties of normal glass.
5. The glass surface after heat treatment has the same resistance to surface damage as annealed glass.
6. Tempered glass cannot be cut or altered.
Need for Tempered Glass:
Tempering increases tensile strength, thermal shock resistance, and safety of normal glass. It also increases
its heat withstanding capacity. Because of these properties, tempered glass is preferred in applications where
strength, safety and thermal resistance are important considerations.
Strength & Safety Considerations

3. Fragments into small, relatively harmless pieces, reducing the likelihood of injury.

43. Heat Strengthened Glass
Characteristics of Heat Strengthened Glass:
Heat-strengthened glass provides necessary resistance to thermal stress associated with high
performance glazing materials such as tinted glass, reflective glass and Low-E glass. It also
provides necessary resistance to heat building up when using spandrels glass.
When producing Heat strengthened laminated glass as compared to Tempered Laminated
glass, Heat-strengthened glass allows the interlayer to laminated glass to adhere more
evenly because of a flatter finish surface.
Heat-strengthened glass with its flatter surface also results in the facade having less optical
distortions.
With the exception of strength and breakage characteristic, heat-strengthened glass retains
the normal properties of annealed glass including chemical resistance, hardness, expansion
and deflection.
This glass is difficult to break compared to ordinary annealed glass but unlike toughened
safety glass it breaks typically edge to edge and fragments.
Breakage Pattern of Heat Strengthened Glass
44. Benefits of Heat-Strengthened Glass:
Heat-strengthened glass differs from tempered glass in surface compression;
its mechanical strength is about 1.6-2 times that of annealed glass.
Heat-strengthened glass has outstanding thermal stability, its flatness and light
transmission is close to that of annealed glass and much better than that of
tempered glass.
HS Glass is 3 times more resistant to thermal stress in comparison to normal
annealed glass.
It can withstand temperature difference of 100°C (in range of 50°C to 150°C)
compared to ordinary annealed glass which can withstand up to 40°C.
Heat strengthened glass is that it is far less susceptible to spontaneous
breakage.
45. Resistance To Shock Test
(Ref, Standard – IS 2553 (part-1)
The toughened safety glass is given sudden shock with a smooth surface steel ball of 63.5 mm in diameter form a
height of 100 cm.
A steel ball of about 63.5 mm in diameter and weighing 1.040 ± 2 g.
With smooth surface within 25 mm from its center is required.

Procedure
A steel ball of above specification is freely dropped vertical
from a height of 100cm on a sample of 6mm toughened glass,
which is placed horizontally in a iron frame of 610 x 610 mm.
Results
The product shall be accepted when not more the one sheet is broken and the test repeated
when 3 sheets are broken, another sample of 5 sheets shall be tested and
the lot is accepted if all the 5 sheet pass the test.
