2. Hudson Bay Failure Essay
Walmart, one of the top retailers globally entered Germany in the 1990 s by acquiring two local
retailers. It was not quite successful and the inflexibility and inadaptability of Wal Mart marked its end
in the Europe s biggest economy and the company had to pull off in 2006. It was seen that Walmart
was extremely rigid and stubborn and did not make any attempt to learn the culture, rather they forced
English language and American way of doing business as the official culture which was one of the
major causes of failure.
Hudson Bay Company is also entering Germany with almost the same strategy, by acquiring the
successful German retailer, Galeria Kaufhof. However, Hudson Bay will have to be extremely

It will also focus on forming a strategic alliance with Kaufhof during these six months and market and

Medium Term, which would mean from the end of the short term to a year from now, will witness
Hudson Bay to be purely established in Germany with majority of its employees being local and a few
from US units who would effectively cooperate with the local employees and customers (London
Hart, 2004). This period will also see a good amount of transfer of skillsets from Hudson Bay to
Kaufhof and vice versa.
Long term, which is over a year from now to probably the next three years, the company will now
become fully adept with the local issues and any kind of problems. Effective solutions with the right
employees can be implemented to overcome any challenge. Kaufhof and Hudson Bay can together
witness a growth in profits and share them efficiently amongst each other. By the end of the second
year, Hudson Bay can also propose to acquire Kaufhof if need be to run independently and increase its
investments in the

3. Business Process Of Small Business
Introduction The process of small business creation requires that entrepreneurs engage significant
analysis and planning. There are many considerations that a potential small business owner must make
to ensure that they are making not only the best decisions for the business itself, but for them as
individuals. Entrepreneurs must identify things such as the product(s) and/or service(s) they wish to
offer to their customers, how they will market their offerings, where they will locate their business,
how they will manage that business, etc. All of these elements play a critical role in the successful
operations and profit earning capabilities of the businesses. This paper sets out to identify the factors
an entrepreneur must consider when deciding on the ownership model for the business. It will then
examine the advantages and disadvantages of starting a business through franchising. Lastly, this
paper will examine the criteria an entrepreneur should evaluate before purchasing an existing
business.
List several factors an entrepreneur should consider before choosing a form of ownership?
One of the most significant decisions an entrepreneur will make will center on the ownership of their
organization (Scarborough Cornwall, 2014, p. 138). This organizational component is crucial to the
successful operation of the business and as such, there are a number of considerations entrepreneurs
must make when selecting the appropriate ownership model of their small business. The

6. The Debate On Banning Religious Symbols
The debate on banning religious symbols in Quebec, and Quebec wanting to be their own country has
been an issue for quite some time. The province we formally known as Quebec established a shield
against themselves to advocate that they would like things to go their own way. It is said that they
would like to form a place where religion is neutral (Hughes, 2013). Time after time, we get new
reports on Quebec being disturbed at the sight of all the different symbols in their province; they aren t
too fond of multiculturalism. We know all of Canada to be a place where everyone can be comfortable
in their own skin. Our country is a place of diversity and has not changed until a province like Quebec
wants to turn away from our multiculturalism and change the Charter of Rights to please themselves,
but why?
The question is if religious symbols take an impact on society in a positive or negative way? Quebec
might say that since multiculturalism became a part of our country that it has destroyed the tradition of
what Canada used to be; which is formerly wrong. Quebec does not believe that people that work in
the public sector such as: Jews, Muslims, and Sikhs and are targeted because of their religion; but still
will allow those to who are Catholic/Christians to keep their own symbols (Hughes, 2013). It is stated
that if daycare workers where their religious symbols like headscarves to their school then it would
influence the children to want to follow their religion (Marwah,

the decision to bury the memory in the subconscious, thereby preventing painful, disturbing or

Companies take advantage of children for a couple of reasons with the first being the advantage of
brand recognition or branding . When we are young we make strong connections to things that
influence us, such as the comfort a McDonalds hamburger may bring. Companies know this and by
creating a fun atmosphere that is kid friendly they can create this connection that can last for a
lifetime. Fast food restaurants use kid friendly items such as the playland, kids meal, and toys that
come with the kid s meals. Inventions such as these were created to draw the easily appeased mind of
a child into the restaurant. Children are an easy target for fast food companies to prey upon, which

The data did support my hypothesis as stating that the larger a cell is, the harder it is for diffusion to

in size from 1cm to 3cm cube by a ratio of 6 to a ratio of 2, showing that average rate of diffusion
which decreases as the size of the agar increases has a linkage to cells as cells increase in sizes. If a

16. Marx Weber and Durkheim on Religion Essays
A religion can be seen as a unified system of beliefs and practices which are relative to sacred things
and beliefs (Giddens 1972, p.224). It can shape ones thoughts and feelings and gives people a sense of
hope and something to believe in. All three main sociologist writers Karl Marx, Max Weber and Emile
Durkheim offer different perspectives on religion and how important it is to society. Some of the
theorists chose to have a positive view whilst others argue the unimportance of religion. This essay
attempts to discover which theorist has the most accurate perspective of religion in modern times. This
is done by firstly explaining the basic ideas regarding to religion put forward by Marx, Weber and
Durkheim. Then both Marx s and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
According to Marx, religion can be seen as the opiate of the people (Engels, Marx 1955, p.41). Here,
Marx is suggesting that just like opium, religion is trying to relieve people of the pain and suffering in
their lives. Marx also puts forward the idea that religion is used by its oppressors in order to make
people feel better about their lives. Thus, it can be seen that Marx chooses to adopt a negative view of
religion. Max Weber can be seen as the only sociologist to place so much scope and emphasis on the
subject of religion (Nisbet, p.250). Biographical and textual evidence suggests that biblical religion
played a part in shaping and influencing Weber s life and the context of his sociology. Weber s main
concern was to attempt to demonstrate that religious ideologies were not mechanically connected to
the economic structure of society, however it does shape individuals behavior and actions in everyday
life (Swingewood 1984, p.152). Weber also came to several conclusions regarding the remarkable
relationship between capitalism and Protestant. According to Weber, the more capitalism had a free
hand to alter social distribution, the larger the relationship between capitalism and protestant (1930,
p.4). Overall, it can be seen that the three main sociology theorists differ greatly when it comes to
ideas regarding to religion.

a good idea to sell Coke through interactive vending machines. Over the last three years, the soft
drinking giants have watched their earnings erode as they waged a price war in supermarkets. Vending
machines have remained largely untouched by the discounting. Sales of soft drinks from vending
machines have risen steadily over the last few years, though most sales still take place in

Therefore, it will only add value to the product for them when it is cold. Overall, brand switchers will
benefit the most from this technology as they can buy Coca Cola when it is cheaper and switch to an
alternative when it is more expensive. 4. Are there any price related issues that can adversely affect the
firm? Price Wars Coca Cola needs to consider the risk of price wars if this technology is introduced
because the ability to discount prices so easily could cause competitors to continually lower prices,
specifically at holidays. Price Discrimination: This means, selling the same good to different groups of
buyers at different prices . Price discrimination is used most through the internet because it so much
easier to change prices and know information about the consumers buying behaviors so they can raise
or lower the price accordingly meaning that they are not sacrificing profits but increasing economic
efficiency. Therefore with Coke, those consumers that drink on hot days will be worse of since they
have to pay a higher price, while those that drink on cold days will be better of. Consequently, sales in
hotter countries could decrease as a result of charging high prices. It will only be a success if the
difference between prices are not explicitly known. Otherwise Price discrimination could harm Coca
Cola s brand image of being consumer friendly. 5. What did Coke do right? What did Coke do wrong?

19. Pros And Cons Of Government Intervention
Why is it good or bad for the US Government to intervene or impose its power on the economy? We
first must understand what regulatory economics is before we can answer this question. Regulatory
economics is the application of law by government or independent administrative agencies for various
purposes. These include remedying market failure, protecting the environment, centrally planning an
economy, enriching well connected firms, or benefitting politicians. This is basically saying legislation
imposed by a government on individuals and private sector firms in order to regulate and modify
economic behaviors.
Now something as complex as this can t be answered with just a simple good or bad response. There
are many historical events that have good and bad evidence of the United States government
intervening on the economy. The controversy is mainly with regulation. There are also different
elements to regulation: 1) Public statutes standards or statements of expectations, 2) A registration or

government does its best to combat market inequities through regulations, taxation, and subsidies. 2)
The government intervenes to promote general economic fairness. 3) The government maximizes
social welfare through breaking up monopolies, regulating negative externalities such as pollution, etc.

woman that took her John away from her. Without reluctance now she stabs the needle into her
stomach and stumbles into the house. The Proctor s fate has now been sealed and there was nothing
the Proctor s could have ever done to have stopped it. Theme of revenge is better portrayed in the film,
The Crucible, than the play by Arthur miller of the same title. The film, The Crucible, far succeeds in
depicting the emotions of revenge. The book tries to accomplish this but cannot display the
complexity of revenge that the movie does so well. As the film opens, Abigail, the niece of the pastor,
is shown with many other girls sneaking out to the woods late at night. Tituba, the slave of the pastor,
begins a ritual with the girls where they may make a wish (The Crucible). Abigail whispers her wish
to Tituba, Tituba in shock tells Abigail she will not take the wish request. Abigail becomes irrational,
and the scene spirals out from there. Unfortunately, Miller never included this scene in his play. This
event sets up the entirety of the Salem Witch Trials and all that

people. An amount of individuals would utilize their gift of persuasion to convince others of their

23. Sufka Chapter Summary
In the introduction, it is apparent by Dr. Kenneth Sufka comments that how you studied in high school
will probably not work in college. However, much of what he observed in college students is easily
fixed. Also, what he saw and made into guidelines is applicable to all students across the globe and not
to just one in particular. All of these rules can most certainly bring your grades up and make you into a
better student. Specifically, they will turn you into a better studier and test taker. In all, it is beneficial
to learn the rules he has set. In Chapter One, his first rule is to go to class always (11). Dr. Sufka is
trying to emphasize even if your friend did take notes, they are not what you would have done. As
individuals, we all make notes differently, because our brains function diversely. One person may like
to just have one full page of notes, which may be fine for them. Meanwhile, their friend likes to add
bullets for better symmetry. Overall, Dr. Sufka emphasizes the importance of going to class, and he
also notes there are not many excuses that can be made as to why you would not. In Chapter Two, his
second rule is to never sit in cheap seats (15). The seats he is referring to would be the ones in the
back of the class. They cause you to not pay attention in class, ... Show more content on

distracted and miss key ideas during the lecture. Dr. Sufka emphasizes recording lectures, so if you

24. Advantages Of Talk And Chalk Teaching Method
PART 1
INTRODUCTION
1.1 Introduction
This section will discuss about the teaching strategy employed by the teacher in teaching Accountings
to the secondary school students. The Talk and Chalk teaching method will also be discussed.
1.2 Background to the Study
Rena (2010) informed that the UNESCO commissioned Report 2009 commented that Talk and Chalk
teaching method may not be appropriate to prepare students to move into the 21st Century. Gatto
(1999) commented that the traditional teaching is inappropriate, teacher centered with no opportunity
for students to learn problem solving skills and to experience the real world situation. Abd. Aziz
(2013) believed that too much emphasis on the pen and papers will result in students being able to do
well in written work but weak in communication skills. Hence, good grades do not reflect that ...

The aim of this study is to establish the challenges of teaching financial accounting in secondary
schools. The result showed that only 25 36 percent of the students in the 9 schools obtained a credit
and others are either failures or ordinary pass. It was recommended to use guided discovery in order to
teach effectively. Guided learning is the teaching of concept in an orderly manner from general to
specific.
Cantrell (2004) suggested that there are two different teaching methods to teach financial accounting
and they are exposition and inquiry. The exposition method is considered to be the conventional way
which involves leader centered, leader active, learner passive and content emphasis. Some of the
examples are lecture, traditional demonstration, discussion, panel discussion, guest speaker,
storytelling, reading of textbooks, drama and handouts or manuals. While the inquiry method is
characterized as leader facilitated, learner centered, leader facilitated, learner active and learning

25. Out Of State Tuition
Out of state tuition shouldn t limit people who seek a better education. When looking for collages to
go to people tend to stay in state because the cost is cheaper. What is the actual tax dollars that go to
the in state students? Schools collage shouldn t be limited to just your state based on cost but it should
be something you chose based on how good the school is. To fix this problem you could either have a
universal tax that gives money to all schools in America this way schools have to give everyone who
wants to go to their school pay the same cost. The other idea I have to fix this problem is to use the
money the schools get already and have everyone take a cut this would increase instate tuition but also
eliminate out of state tuition. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
As we ve seen there are schools that do so but not too many are willing to follow that. Another answer
to this problem is scholarships and grants. But not all of us are the next Einstein or Coble Bryant. And
for those individuals there are options for them. But for us the few that are trying to strive for
improvement for those that have yet to prove the worth in this world can there more scholarships that
can be won by us students who are not the best of the best but want to learn. Cheaper tuition, more
school scholarships, easier scholarships, and my personal favorite grants are ways we can make
education more affordable to the average college student. I just wish that we dint live in a world where
just the clearly successful make it easy. but for those like us who have to pay full price it hurts, but
hopefully collages will eventually give up on go out of their way to help stunts go to their schools

26. The Delivery Of Communication And Differentiated Instruction
Although using different teaching strategies is necessary in a differentiated music class, simply using
them is not necessarily differentiating instruction. I like to think of strategies as the delivery of
communication and differentiated instruction as the specific individual implementation of strategies.
For example in a music class, one of my strategies of keeping students engaged is to use simple
percussion instruments for developing rhythmic proficiency. The differentiated instruction is provided
by taking individual needs into consideration. For example, a student who is easily aurally overloaded,
I would hand that student a quieter instrument and/or suggest he/she use body percussion or ask them
to sit where they feel comfortable in class relative to the sound being produced. For younger children
who are sound sensitive, I would suggest using earplugs or head sets. It is important to remember that
using a variety of teaching strategies is not the same as differentiating the instruction. In this case
engagement was the overarching strategy and the differentiated instruction was specific to each
student while still keeping them engaged.
Differentiated Instruction is a student focused way of thinking of teaching and learning. It is important
to establish clear and concise guidelines for independent and group work, as well as movement within
a classroom. I will also discuss guidelines in general that I would setup for these areas. In

27. Similarities And Differences Of Snow White Story
Snow White is a fairytale that never gets old. Countless young children know the tale by heart: A
young, beautiful girl tries to live a happy life while her mother tries to kill her due to Snow White
being prettier than her. Snow White, though, has a much more profound, unexploited history. There
are many versions of this story that not a lot of people read. Two texts that were particularly
fascinating were Gold Tree and Silver Tree as well as Nourie Hadig. In Gold Tree and Silver Tree,
Silver Tree becomes jealous with Gold Tree s beauty and tries to kill her newlywed daughter, but Gold
Tree made a new friend, and she helped take care of Silver Tree. In Nourie Hadig, Nourie is left in the
forest by her father because her mother wants to kill her. There, she takes care of a prince all the while
her mother is trying to find her. Both these stories have amazing similarities and striking differences,
but the similarities significantly outweigh the differences. The stories are astonishingly similar many
ways, but their characters are the most standout thing about these stories. While these figures have
their differences, the similarities are much more eye catching. These characters are similar because
their personalities follow a similar rhythm throughout the stories and their actions also stay the same.
These stories characters represent the reason why these stories commonly have been given the title of
being the origins of Snow White. Their protagonists, Nourie Hadig

28. The And Chemical Properties Of Artificial Acids
Abstract: In this experiment, we made an artificial ester called pentyl ethanoate, also known as pentyl
acetate, and analyzed its physical and chemical properties. The method used in the experiment is an
esterification reaction. We synthesized pentyl ethanoate by mixing equal amounts of 1 pentanol and
ethanoic acid in the presence of a few drops of sulfuric acid, which is a strong acid catalyst. The
mixture of the reactants was heated for ten minutes in a hot water bath at a temperature of sixty
degrees Celsius and was given time to cool in a different beaker for five minutes. The product formed
was a colorless, insoluble liquid that smelled like banana candy. Two minutes later, a reverse reaction
had occurred and the aroma of banana changed to a marker smell. The pentyl ethanoate was on the
surface of the water mixture while the sulfuric acid, ethanoic acid, and 1 pentanol were dissolved into
the bottom of the water mixture. These findings helped us understand the importance of synthesizing
esters, the physical and chemical properties of artificial esters, and how the esterification reaction
between an alcohol and a carboxylic acid such as between 1 pentanol and ethanoic acid can form a
pleasant banana aroma ester, such as pentyl ethanoate.

Terrorism, according to the American Heritage Dictionary of the English Language, is the unlawful
use or threatened use of force or violence by a person or an organized group against people or property
with the intention of intimidating or coercing societies or governments, often for ideological or
political reasons (Follendore). Terrorism was more myth than reality for most Americans until the
attack of 9/11. The act of terrorism is meant to subdue societies with fear but it is impossible to instill
fear without tools. Without capital, terrorists are unable to act; even terrorists are reliant upon money.
Since their country of origin dislikes most terrorist groups, it is hard to set up businesses and become
successful independently so an outside income source is required. Drugs and drug trafficking are huge
moneymakers that are also tax free. The drug trade is cash based and full of money. James Bovard
says in an essay that because narcotics are illicit, they tend to attract violent, ruthless people and
organizations to carry out their production and marketing. Further he says, groups that specialize in
violence such as terrorists take to drug trafficking like a duck to water (Bovard). Drugs are present and
fairly common within the United States and if drug sales are reduced, terrorism will diminish over
time, unless it finds a new

The ways and reasons land mines are used has changed dramatically since WW1. What was once
considered to be cutting edge defensive technology has turned into an offensive tactical device and
extremist s tool to wreak havoc on an enemy or marginalized population. Connecting the history of
landmines to the conflicts we have discussed in this class will take several steps. The first part of this
paper will discuss the history of landmines, how they are detonated, and the different types of
landmines. The next section looks at the ways landmines are used defensively in war time, and as an
offensive weapon in past wars and by current day extremists. The third section examines examples of

33. Taking a Look at the TPS Mechanism
TPS MECHANISM
Social infrastructure is mostly done at neighborhood level. Earlier it was done through land
reservation through land acquisition, but in that process increases the financial burden on ULBs. There
was also difficulties in procurement of land. So now a days ULBs are practicing the development by
keeping the flow on market hands. However there are some cases for development of city level
infrastructure through TPS mechanism. They are here taken as case studies.
After 1980 peripheral areas of Ahmedabad have been expanding rapidly. There was a huge
differentiation between population within the city limit area and the outer peripheral area because the
saturation of population within the city area and the subsequent large scale housing development in
the fringe areas. Haphazard development took place because of absence of proper infrastructure and
road network. The development in outer areas is expected to accelerate further as Ahmedabad has
become a mega city. And due to this reason, the Ahmedabad Urban Development Authority has
proposed additional 64 sq. km of urbanizable land over the next ten years in the revised development
plan (2011). The expected population is expected to reach 46 lakhs and 60 lakhs in the former
Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation (AMC) and AUDA as per the proposed plan with in a period of 10
years. Therefore it was important to ensure planned growth with good road network and infrastructure
facilities in the developing areas of the city. (TOI)

Baudelaire s attempts to show the reader that beauty can grow on its own. He would use women as his

represents everything that is wrong with the world like death, murder and disease. While the ideal
represents a perfection where love is united with ecstasy. They embodied what he called the elevation

denying them a positive role in his imaginative vision, this is where adequate misogyny can be seen.

Do you hate littering? Don t you hate when you go to a nice beach and you see trash all over? Dave
Barry s anecdote A Couple Of Really Nice Guys is a high level of comedy that uses a personal issue
and exaggerates it to reveal universal truth about littering. The author uses comic
characters/caricatures and hyperboles. First, the author used a lot of hyperboles. For example, on page
326, I HATE littering. I hate it when you go to a park or the beach and the day is suddenly destroyed
by the arrival of The Picnic People from Hell. This situation was exaggerated with humor to express
the narrator s hatred for littering. Another example of a hyperbole is on page 325, They just WALK

masked avenger for the forces of neatness. When a person litters, Captain Tidy comes swooping out of

caricature in this passage. He is a character that the narrator made up so he could have some fun but
also tell people to pick up their trash. The narrator and his friend would dress up in their costumes and
go out in public to stop people from littering. The reason why Captain Tidy is considered a caricature
is because he is a made up character. Another example of a caricature is on page 326, But if I knew

37. Persuasive Essay On Punishment
What is punishment? Punishment according to Flew has five elements to its reasoning. Whatever the
crime was, it must involve an unpleasantness to a victim, must be an offense outlined in the law, there
must be an offender, there must not be natural actions of consequences and lastly, it must be imposed
by authority or an institution against their rules of offense that have been committed (Banks, 2016).
Flew also believes that if the crime falls outside of this scope, it is rather a hostile act rather than
punishment (Banks, 2016).
Why should offenders be punished? Punishment is meant to stop people from committing further
crimes. Punishment also informs criminals that society doesn t approve of the harm they ve caused
against victims. Punishment also is a form of messaging to others that if they commit the same crime
or cause the same disapproved pain against something or someone, they will also be punished under
the law set in place. Lastly, punishment protects society as a whole from dangerous and/or dishonest
people (Banks, 2016).
In an utilitarian approach to punishment, philosophers such as Bentham believes that punishment can
be justified only if the harm that it prevents is greater that the harm inflicted on the offender through
punishment (Banks, p. 156). Bentham also believes that if punishment doesn t deter further crime
from happening, it s only adding to humanity suffering (Banks, 2016). Utilitarians try to use
punishment as a means to the end and not the end

38. The Effect Of Urbanization On Wildlife
In modern day urban settings, it is not uncommon to walk outside and experience Madagascar right in
the city parks. OK, maybe not quite Madagascar yet, but cities are getting there. The wildlife that used
to live out in the wild are now migrating into urban areas because there are no resources left for them
in their original homes. The problem is humans. Humans have taken over the resources, homes, and
economies that animals need to survive, so they are forced to come closer and closer to humans. The
movement caused by this is creating many problems between humans and the animals that are forced
to move. Urban wildlife is beginning to cause damage to the environment and needs to be stopped.
The effect that urbanization has on wildlife is ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
One of the causes of fear loss is caused by animals being too closely associated with the millions of
humans that surround them on a daily basis. The animals are forced to reside in human habitat because
they have nowhere else to live. The closeness can cause alterations and some urban animals trade
personal space for the convenience of the city (Soniak). Species continue to be made to live side by
side to humans and breathe the exact same air that they do. They practically share homes with humans
now because of the lack of space and the excessive populations of urban wildlife. What used to be
considered taboo is presently different because the relationship between humans and large predators is
changing (Mahoney). Large predators who lose their fears and approach humans in search for food or
water are put in danger because humans misunderstand the animals and what they are trying to tell
them. They may view a harmless approach for food as a murder spree targeted straight at them.
Another problem that follows urbanization is the harmony between humans and animals that has been
around for years is now being disturbed. The amount of wildlife deaths in urban cities is rising as
more human populations expand and grow. Some threats to urban wildlife include: habitat loss, light
and noise pollution, invasive species, chemical runoff/ pollution and habitat fragmentation. For the

39. History Of Cotton Cultivation And Production
The history of cotton cultivation and production to cottons part in society now. Tyler Riviere
4 April, 2016
The evolutionary history of cotton played an important role in the heritage of the British Empire, the
United States(U.S.), and India. Cotton continues to be an important crop and commodity throughout
society. The history of Cotton is one of the most important factors to our society currently. Cotton
cultivation dates back over 7,000 years, seeds of cotton are found all over the world. Cotton is hugely
important throughout the world, making cotton useful to make a number of textile products. Since
cotton is used and produced on such a widespread industry, cotton s largest producers are China and
India. However; the largest exporters of raw cotton are the United States and Africa. The advancement
in cotton textile industries, and the worldwide vast cultivation of the crop is the product of human
demand towards the farming, production, and export of cotton.
The global cotton industry is distinguished by its abundant industrial uses of cotton plume, which is
the fiber within the cotton used to create products, along with the high production costs that come
along with it. Extreme vegetative growth can hinder destructively with productivity of the cotton
plant. Why it makes applying growth regulators an essential for healthy develop6ment in the cotton
culture (Vitor 2015). Cotton cultivation dates back over 7,000 years ago and with high demand.

Religious Variety In John Updike s short story Varieties of Religious Experience , he illustrates four
different perspectives on the day of the 9/11 attacks and allows for the readers to understand the minds
of multiple people on a day that will forever be remembered in American history. Updike seizes the
opportunity to see through various vantage points and it also allows for the readers to have wider
sense of faith in the short story. The opportunity of multiple perspectives suggests that there could be
something more from a religious experience especially in an ever evolving technology driven society.
Honestly, when I first began to read the short story I was confused as to why Updike would use
multiple points of view, but once I had finished I knew that what Updike had done was something
only very gifted writers can do. Through each character, Updike allows for the readers to see what

self absorbed mother, who, to be fair, does deserve some of the blame due to both her unloving nature
with Caddy and insistence on imposing harsh and strict moral codes on her. This, however, is just one
of several ways Mrs. Compson contributes to the dysfunction of her family. Ulrike Nussler explores
this in her essay The Function of Mrs. Compson in Faulkner s The Sound and the Fury. Nussler
accurately describes her as a woman who unwittingly contributes to the decline of the Compson
family (581). Much of this is due to her fixation with old codes of behavior and traditional Southern
values, especially with regards to the strict morality she imposes on her daughter Caddy which
partially contributes to Caddy s promiscuity, something that proves to be destructive and a source of
conflict for both individuals and the whole Compson family. Nussler correctly states that Mrs.
Compson remains inflexible and self centered while exercising a power that proves to be destructive
to the family unit (581). This gets at the two main aspects of why Mrs. Compson s influence on the
destruction of the family can t be underestimated. One, Mrs. Compson is self centered, removed,
stubborn, and apathetic about her children outside of Jason. This is always going to be problematic for
the family, regardless of whether the person who has these traits is a mother, father, son, or daughter.
What exasperates her influence, though, is the fact that she is the matriarch of the family. She holds a
more potent and direct power than of the other family members, and

42. Personal Ethical Argument
The set of personal ethical principles which I live by are comprised of a belief in absolute right and
wrong, man s duty to obey God, and also his duty to love his neighbor as himself; each of these
principles were formed by a Faith in God and in the Bible. The principle of absolute right and wrong
was constructed through understanding that if right and wrong were contingent on man s opinions and
attitudes, then both laws and guidelines would become pointless. Furthermore, God shows that right
and wrong are absolute and not contingent on man when He states His warning, Woe unto them that
call evil good, and good evil; that put darkness for light, and light for darkness; that put bitter for
sweet, and sweet for bitter! (Isaiah 5:20). In addition to this principle, I also came to believe that man
is called to obey God for several reasons: He is all powerful, He created man to give Himself glory,
and He desires what is best for us. Like the two previous ethical principles, loving one s neighbor as
himself, was constructed out of a faith in God and in His infallible Word. Man is called to perform this
practice because, as the Bible states, God ... first loved us. (1 John 4:19) ... Show more content on

Furthermore, one also may improve in identifying which actions are right and wrong in moral
dilemmas. An example of this would be when I considered quitting my youth group band. Although I
loved my role in the group, it was wrong for me to continue; it was hypocritical to be in a leadership
role with an unclean heart. By understanding that right and wrong are absolute, I knew that it did not
matter if it was me or another person, it was wrong. Because of this reality, I quit the band until I
became right with

43. Bobby Coming Of Age Quotes
How do you know if your grown up? When do you know that its time to grow up. Its not like you
have a sign that tells you its time to stop being childish now. Bobby from The first part last didn t have
any signs either. Coming of age doesn t have instructions so how do you know what to do. Bobby
knew it was time to grow up when he found out Nia was pregnant with his child. Coming of age isn t
immediate either. It takes time to figure out how to take care of another human being, especially if it
requires more attention than someone your age. I am going to explain how Bobby Comes of age with
symbols instead of just explaining how his attitude changes. Throughout the book there are symbols
that shows how Bobby Comes of age. I chose the Red balloon Nia gives Bobby for his sixteenth
birthday, The basketball Bobby uses to play with his friends K boy and J L, and feather herself ...

You never really know when your grown up. Your decisions and maturity will just slowly change. Its
different ages for everyone because it all depends what your raised up with or what happens while
your coming of age. Bobby had to grow up early because he had a kid early. As Bobby comes of age
his decisions mature and he becomes more wise. His decisions are no longer stupid and childish like
they used to be. Bobby didnt come of age as soon as feather was born. He still made stupid decisions
when she was a new born, but as he realized how stupid he was really being, he changed.I showed
bobby s coming of age by the red balloon, the basketball bobby used to play with when he was with
friends, and feather
