Decriminalization Of Recreational Drugs
Though there are many studies to show that drug use amongst young people have become more
tolerated, there is also a high number of the population that believe do not accept the deviant
behaviour of regular drug use and support the prohibition on recreational drug use. This counter
argument is supported by evidence from James Crouch in Opinium Surveys (2015), stating that in
2014 when 2000 UK adults were given a survey on druglegalisation, despite 33% of the population
believing that recreational drugs such as cannabis should be legalised, a high percentage of the
population (53%) were in support of illegal drugs used for entertainment remaining criminalised.
Subsequently, this contradicts the normalisation thesis. Furthermore, Les Gofton... Show more

that the anti drug behaviour presented by early teens towards drug user mellows with age and life

behind the normalisation theory, of which is stimulates as a sympathetic attitude towards the
understanding of drug use among young people. However, it is seen from their research that
Parker s study does not critic the social acceptance of drug use in the UK, which therefore does not

Personal Financial Planning Essay
Personal Finance Planning Introduction Personal Finance is the financial management which an
person or a family unit performs to spending plan, spare, and invest fiscal assets over time,
considering different monetary risks and future life events (Salohalla, 2011). Like many people,
you have seeks and dreams and life objectives after yourself and your crew. These might
incorporate purchasing a home or business, putting something aside for school instruction for your
youngsters, taking a fantasy get away, decreasing duties and taxes, retiring serenely. Financial
planning is the procedure of astutely dealing with your funds so you can accomplish your
fantasies and objectives while in the meantime offering you some assistance with negotiating the
budgetary boundaries that definitely emerge in each phase of life (Finke, 2011). As sound
financial prosperity and better way of life is picking up need amongst people, the individual
financial planning is progressively turning into a decent practice if not as of now a need. Truth be
told, a sound individual financial arrangement permits individual to be aware of courses in which
they manage financial matters. It is a way to manage an individual s financial choices and highlight
the consequences of such choices on different territories of one s accounts. An average way to deal

Cultural Differences In Tayo s Ceremony
One of the main civic and moral lessons that is displayed throughout Edgar Huntly is the
mistreatment of the Native American culture by the hands of the white, privileged and superior
culture. This is something that is seen through the eyes of Edgar throughout the second half of the
novel, where he believes that the Native Americans are savages with no rules or responsibilities
who mindlessly killed those that he loved for fun, with no rational decision making abilities. The
irony that is found within this, is the fact that the savage, irrational killer turns out to be Edgar
himself, who convinces himself that he killed those Natives out of self defense in order to protect
himself from those who have no rational abilities to protect themselves.... Show more content on

Tayo struggles in defending his cultural identity because of his white and Native American
cultural background. The moral lesson that both novels struggle in properly addressing is the
ability to accept different cultures regardless of their background and accepting individuals
regardless. Edgar is judgemental based on the Native Americans lifestyles, not only because of
his own prejudices but also his own in regards to the message that has been established based on
his culture. This is not the same case for Tayo in Ceremony but the lack of cultural appreciation
and understanding of cultural differences is a problem that is addressed. The civic lessons that
are addressed involves personal responsibilities in serving justice and facing an entire
community independently instead of as a whole and a team. Edgar takes it upon himself to find
Waldegraves murderer, regardless of the fact that it is not his responsibility. He believes it is his
civic duty in order to bring forth justice. This civic responsibility is addressed in Ceremony, when
Tayo is forced into WWII, he is forced to bring justice to his country as apart of a team instead of a
sole individual against an entire

The Portrayal of Differences in Pygmalion by Bernard Shaw...
Examine the portrayal of difference (e.g physical limitations, mental illness, race, class, or sexual
identity) in at least two literary works you have studied.
It can be noted that throughout both texts difference can be found portrayed in different ways. The
texts I will be focussing on are Pygmalion by Bernard Shaw and The Handmaids Tale by Margaret
Atwood. Whether it be the difference in class between Eliza Doolittle her father and her mentors
Mr Henry Higgins and Colonel Pickering or in the case of the Handmaids tale of Offred status
in class in comparison to the Commander and his wife. Difference can also be noticed by the
different occupations and titles denoted by people in the different texts such as doctor and
commander . This essay shall also explore how noticeable the differences are of Eliza, before she
became a lady and how the difference between the normal life and now the Gilead regime. Of the
three questions offered I felt that this one in particular stood out as having the most links between
each other with the portrayal of difference in both texts being noticeable.
The difference in class is particularly apparent in The Handmaids Tale in which people are
denoted by colours according to their rankings. In the case of Offred she is denoted by dressing all
in red to recognise her fertility and ripeness. However Offred also sees this as a connotation of
blood, sometimes being something of a life force for her, yet also associating it with violence and

Pride And Pride In Beowulf
Beowulf is a story that has been told over thousands of years. Beowulf is the story of one of the
greatest warriors known to man. Even the man who claims to be the best of them all has a
weakness and has faced temptations. Beowulf s inability to control his lust for women, power, and
pride is what continues the deconstruction of the kingdom. The curse continues to rampage through
the village of the Danesdue to man s weakness. One of the first seven deadly sinsthat Beowulf is
faced with is the theory of pride. Beowulf will do anything to further his reputation as the
greatest warrior. He intends to encourage people to think that he is the god like figure who can
be trusted and cannot be faced by temptation. In the text Beowulf says, Scarcely did I survive
that with my life, the struggle beneath the water, barely did I accomplish the task, the fight was
all but ended... ( Unknown, 30) Beowulf says this to help encourage this idea that even in his
weakest moment he was strong enough to come out of a very tough battle. Beowulf is not a
credible source though. Nobody had witnessed this battle to see how troublesome it truly was.
Consequently Beowulf has a motive to lie about how tough this was in order to feed his desire for
pride. The Danish people often felt a sense of worship for Beowulf. Beowulf had come to save
them from Grendel, so they felt he was their hero. The author refers to Beowulf and says, they
rejoiced in the prince, that they could behold him safe and

Legalization of Drugs Essay
The current hot topic debate about the legalization of marijuana for medical exposes the long
lasting debate about the economic viability of prohibiting certain kind of drugs considered illicit.
Many social costs to society are attributable to illicit drugs, along with tobacco, alcohol, and guns.
In fact, each of these vices is allegedly responsible for $200 billion annual expenditure in social
costs of the USA (Donohue, 2010). Interestingly, all these commodities mentioned above have
common characteristics: a sizeable proportion of consumers responsibly use each of them hence
virtually zero social externality; and a trivial subset of society individuals irresponsibly use each of
these commodity to create high social externalities. The... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Of course, their claim is relatively true because drug addicts produce negative externalities that
affect non market participants who include dependents of the drug addicts. This direct causal
relationship between drugs and crime is due to statistics that reveal a large proportion of the newly
incinerated convicts have recent prior drug use. One then could counter this premise with the
argument that energy drinks cause crimes in case criminals are found to have drunk energy drinks
just before committing crimes. This shallow assumption also excludes studies that reveal marijuana
as neither a gateway drug (its use leads to use of dangerous drugs like cocaine and Heroin) nor its
possession (which is a crime in itself) causes criminal tendencies. Their causal link relationship
between drugs and crime negates other factors that include demographics and socio economics.
Proponents of prohibition claim that it reduces demand and restrict supply, thereby diminishing
drugs use, and the costs of illness. Prohibition is certain to reduce the supply of drugs due to the
stiff penalties imposed on suppliers. However, their argument lacks authentic verification as
numerous studies within the USA and from other countries where these illicit drugs have been
criminalized paint a different picture.
Prohibition in this case refers to a government decree against the exchange of a good or a service

The Fight For Clean Air
The Fight for Clean Air in Texas Public health often involves out of multiple disciplines but at its
core, resides in the general interest of the health of populations. How healthy a population is, often
depends on their overall environment. Poor air quality can cause undesirable health issues among
individuals in sensitive portions of the population who are asthmatic, have lung disease, or even
cardiovascular conditions. Especially in areas where communities are affected by the outcomes of
policies that directly impact the health of individuals, their safety, and other things. These issues
often stem from very similar risk factors on multiple levels regarding the individual, inter
intrapersonal, community, institutional and policy regulations. In Houston, Texas one of the
current issues is air pollution. Several populations are at risk of suffering from an increase in
respiratory diseases. The Environmental Defense Fund (EDF) brought attention to the issue earlier
this year with a four part series of articles. They highlighted an increase in ozonelevels across the
city during 2015. It is suggested that this could possibly cause Houston to exceed EPA regulations.
Houston and other surrounding areas in Texas need to commit to changes that can lower ozone
average levels in 2016. People living in these communities are at particular risk of serious health
effects due ground level ozone and smog. There is a wealth of scientific evidence on the
development of asthma,

Alzheimers A Progressive, Degenerative Disorder Imagine a wife and husband being married
for 44 years and having one of them not remember who the other is, or their past life together.
The film Away From Her (Egoyan, et al., 2006) shows viewers how the disease can greatly impact
your life, and how quickly it can form. The film was based off of a short story The Bear Came over
the Mountain by Alice Munro (Munro, 2013). In both works, the author and the director portray a
significant struggle between a husband and wife dealing with Alzheimer s.

But I can look again (Egoyan, et al., 2006). This quotation is meant to portray Fiona in a light
manner and show how much her brain is starting to deteriorate, and that she is aware of it. The
setting is the same in both works; Fiona s parents cottage in the hills of Canada, snow on the
ground, and a very serene view. The film (Egoyan, et al., 2006) goes through several states of
emotional stress between the couple. First being denial. Grant is in denial for most of the film. He
does not want to believe that his wife is slowly leaving him emotionally. It also hurts him that she
cannot remember much about their marriage but can remember the infidelity. He then begins to
feel some guilt because he finally realizes how much he had hurt Fiona during his time of
infidelity. In the short story (Munro, 2013) it tells you about Grants infidelity, however in the film
(Egoyan, et al., 2006) the director just eludes to the fact that there was infidelity in the marriage.
Fiona, however, does not seem to go through much denial saying, Don t worry darling, I expect I m

Climax
The climax in the both the story(Munro, 2013) and the film (Egoyan, et al., 2006) is when Grant
comes back to Meadowlake after the thirty days and finds Fiona has forgotten all about him and
has taken up with Aubrey. Fiona cares for Aubrey as a child but

Basic Crisis Intervention Theory
Critical Incident The critical incident I will be discussing is a house fire that occurred recently in
my neighborhood. The owner of the home Samantha was sleeping downstairs on the couch and
was able to get out of the fire with minor injuries. Unfortunately, the Samantha s boyfriend was
sleeping upstairs and died in the fire. This tragic event not only took Samantha s home but her
loved one and possessions. I have selected the Basic CrisisIntervention Theory because I believe it
fits best with this crisis.
Basic Crisis Intervention Theory Basic crisis intervention theory focuses on individuals who are
suffering a loss (James Gilliland, 2017). In this case, Samantha has lost her loved one and her
home. She is suffering several losses at one time. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
During this time of disequilibrium, an individual becomes vulnerable to deterioration (Lewis
Roberts, 2001). There are four stages that occurs when individuals are in a state of emotional
disequilibrium, which are disturbed equilibrium, brief therapy or grief work, working through the
grief, and restoration of equilibrium (James Gilliland, 2017). It is essential to guide Samantha
through her crisis by working on her grief and restoration and balance of her emotional equilibrium.
Crisis Intervention
In basic crisis intervention theory, the client s behavior and response to the crisis is normal and
only temporary (James Gilliland, 2017). The grief behaviors that the client may display are
preoccupation with loss, identification with the lost one, guilt and hostility, disorganization in daily
routine, and somatic complaints (James Gilliland, 2017). It is critical for the counselor to work
with Samantha through her grief behaviors and implement an intervention. There is a 7 stage crisis
intervention model that Samantha will progress through as she continues counseling. The first
stage is to plan a Biopsychosocial and lethality danger assessment

Social Work Boundary Issues
Boundary issues in social work can be placed into five conceptual categories revolving around five
central themes pertaining to social worker: intimate relationships, pursuit of personal benefit,
emotional and dependency needs, altruistic gestures, and responses to unanticipated circumstances
(Reamer, 2003). It is usually for anyone to be appreciative for something so a gift would symbolize
his or her way of thanks. Well, for social workpractice, some boundary issues can arise when
social workers and clients engage in gift giving. However, a gift may bring great meaning due to
effective services by a client to appreciate the social worker but not all gifts are meant to receive.
Some agencies permit staff to accept gifts only with understanding,

Comparing Christian Beliefs Of The Bible, Jesus, And God
Christianity and Islam are two of the most popular religions in world. Everyone, from East to West,
knows about these religions because of their historical impact and their continued influence today.
However, even though Christianity and Islam are two of the most popular religions, many people
know little about them, especially their similarities. This essay will discuss how Islamand
Christianityare similar but different in their views of the Bible, Jesus, and God.
First off, let s begin by comparing the Islamic and Christian beliefs of the Bible. For Christians
the Bible is their holy text and the word of God, while the Islamic belief is that the Bible is the
word of prophets and it has been corrupted by the centuries; there are multiple versions of the
Bible and it has been mistranslated. Also, Muslims only find truth in the Bible if it agrees with the
Qur an. Although Muslims do not hold it to the same degree of importance as the Christians do, it
is still regarded as a holy text in both religions.
Secondly, Christianity and Islam have similar but also very different views on Jesus. Islam and
Christianity both believe that Jesus was born from a virgin mother and that Jesus performed
miracles. However, in Christian belief Jesus was God in a human vessel and he died on the cross to
forgive ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The Islamic belief of Allah, or God, is that He is one; Muslims do not believe in separation of
God into different people or things, this defies the Christian belief of the Holy Trinity. The
Christian belief of the Holy Trinity is that God is the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit; He is
not three separate gods or one God in three forms. Although they differ in their belief of the Holy
Trinity, they both believe that there is only one God in existence. That is why Muslims believe that
both Christians and Muslims worship the same God, because there is only one God in

The Dutch in Japan Essay
The Red Haired Barbarians: The Dutch in Japan
The success of Dutch merchants in Japan illustrates the uniqueness of the Dutch
Republic amongst the 17th century European countries. Not only would the Dutch come to
dominate trade in Asia, in Japan they would demonstrate a practicality that would enable them to be
the singular Western force present in a country that would severely isolate itself from any foreign
intrusion. The V.O.C. could indeed be a ruthless cartel in securing trade from its competition and in
dealing with indigenous populations around the world, as in the case of slavery where human
beings were reduced to mere commodities to be bought and sold. Yet, the relationship between

One merchant ship was the first successful Dutch emissary to arrive in Japan in
1600. The Liefde arrived in Japan nearly two years after it left Rotterdam on 27 June
1598 with four other heavily armed ships. Their mission was to go to the Moluccas to buy spices
as well as to explore the Silver ryke (the Silver Empire) of Japan. They were later informed that
they were also to assault and plunder Spanish and Portuguese strongholds along their route in Africa
and Asia. Only the Leifde survived to reach the
Usuki Bay in Kyushu. The original 110 man crew was reduced to 24 emaciated survivors. The
Japanese inhabitants of the area pillaged the cannons, rifles, and other assorted weapons, as well as
the figurehead of the ship, a representation of Erasmus

Lodensteyn and the single Englishman aboard the ship, William Adams, were taken to Tokugawa
Ieyasu in Edo to be interrogated by a Portuguese interpreter. The Shogun was pleased with their
responses and crewmembers were compensated for their losses and were allowed to live in
Japanese society. This initial meeting with Tokugawa gave the Dutch permission to trade with
Japan. (Dutch)

The Fifty First Dragon
Settings: The first setting is in a knight school where Gawaine is taught how to be a knight. It also
takes place in the forest where he beheads all the dragons and is almost fooled into being eaten.
Plot: This story is about a student becoming a knight with no spirit at all named Gawaine le Coeur
Hardy. He was considered the least promising of all the pupils. The headmaster of the school
thought he make better of Gawaine. He discussed about Gawaine with the Professor of Pleasaunce

remembers the magic word, but it is too late to say the word. He swings the ax anyway and
beheads the dragon. He comes back and tells the headmaster what had just happened. The
headmaster tells him that there is no such thing as a magic word and tells him that he has been
doing everything all on his own. The professor says that he was able to slaughter fifty dragons in
less then a year.
Characters: Gawaine le Coeur Hardy: He seems pretty cowardice from the beginning of the book
and still cowardice close to the end. He had no spirit as a knight early in the book and I don t
know why he even tried to become one. At the end he achieves a record of fifty dragons, but is
devoured. The only thing they could find of him were the metallic parts of his medals. They
couldn t even find the ribbons. He made a record for that school that has never been equaled.
The Headmaster: The only reason that Gawaine ever got that far was because of the headmaster.
The headmaster gave him spirit, but after the headmaster told him the truth, I think Gawaine lost
his spirit again. I think that is probably how Gawaine dies.
Conflicts: The first conflict was to get Gawaine to be more enthusiastic about being a knight. This
was resolved by training Gawaine to be a dragon slayer.

Poetry Compare Contrast Essay
The sonnet, Time Does Not Bring Relief by Edna St. Vincent Millay, and the poem, Gouge, Adze,
Rasp, Hammer by Chris Forhan, are both about the emotional pain of a lost love. Both of the
poems follow the narrators after their losses, but each speaker handles with their situation
differently. The narrator in Time Does Not Bring Relief can not find liberation from her heart ache,
and experiences a more powerful and unavoidable sadness than the narrator from Gouge, Adze,
Rasp, Hammer, who copes with his heartache more successfully, and eventually begins the healing
process, as exemplified by the use of tone, structure and imagery in these poems. Firstly, the
difference in tone between the poems clarifies the fact that the woman in Time Does Not Bring

Time Does Not Bring Relief is a Shakespearean sonnet, which brings a structure to the narrator s
writing, which is contrary to the free verse that is used in the poem Gouge, Adze, Rouge,
Hammer , which is more casual and relaxed. The narrator follows the rhyme and structure of the
Shakespearean sonnet instead of using free verse to express herself, which is interesting to note
because she employs the structure of a sonnet, despite the fact that she is going through powerful
storms of unrelenting grief. It can be interpreted that the structure of her writing may stabilize her
through the troubling time of her loss. The free verse that the narrator uses in Gouge, Adze, Rasp,
Hammer, is more expressive and free because it lacks a definite structure. The narrator is able to
write about his feelings without being tied down and concerned with form. The use of free verse in
the poem can be interpreted as the narrator s internal misery that displays itself as amiability and

people view honesty as the foremost virtue in a trustworthy person. However, this world is
tainted with many who deceive others to be revered, although when you turn around they will be

objective of this work was to prepare degradable composites based on polyvinyl alcohol, PVA and
cellulose. Both PVA and cellulose are available from renewable resources and the properties of
PVA are comparable to properties of polystyrene and polypropylene. Another advantage of PVA
from point of commercialization is its processing similarity to polyolefins. This particular property
allows the use of existing technology to process PVA . This has made PVA a potential replacement
material in applications .for example. At present PVA is used in variety of applications including
those in biomedical, automotive and packaging fields. The main factors that have prevented PVA

A fibril is a threadlike bundle of molecules stabilized laterally by hydrogen bonding between
adjacent molecules. The molecular arrangement of these fibrillar bundles is called Microfibrils.
One microfibril contains several elementary fibrils which are in turn composed of multiple
cellulose chains. The arrangement of microfibrils is regular enough to exhibit a crystalline X ray
pattern [17]. The microfibrils are about 10 30 nm wide and can contain 2 30,000 cellulose
molecules. As mentioned earlier, cellulose can be natural (native) or man made (regenerated). It is
very difficult to find cellulose in pure state. When derived from plant source, cellulose is associated
with other substances like lignin and hemicellulose. In addition to lignin and hemicellulose, a
number of non structural components such as waxes, inorganic salts and nitrogenous substances
are also present [18] . Figure 4 shows the schematic of hierarchical structure of wood

The Imporatnce of Weather in Wuthering Heights
The Imporatnce of Weather in Wuthering Heights
In Wuthering Heights, Emily BrontГ« makes use of atmospheric
conditions to emphasize events and highlight the mood of the characters in
the story. The Yorkshire moors are known for their harsh beauty and
sometimes desolate landscape. This theme of a rough countryside filled with
hidden beauties and seasonal storms fits well into the storyline of
Wuthering Heights.
The title of the novel and the name of the Earnshaw s dwelling is
used by Emily BrontГ« s to project the overall mood of the book. She herself
writes that the word Wuthering [is] a significant provincial adjective,

When Nelly begins to tell the story
of the two neighbouring households, she describes Old Mr. Earnshaw setting
out to Liverpool on a fine summer morning (p.34). Yet, when Old Mr.
Earnshaw dies she relates that A high wind blustered round the house, and
roared in the chimney; it sounded wild and stormy (p. 41).
Emily BrontГ« often uses the weather to accentuate the personality
traits and moods of the characters throughout the novel. The countryside s
sometimes savage weather compares well to Heathcliff s temperament.
Heathcliff disapears for days on end into this desolate landscape and seems
to be most at home when wandering about in the moors. He is quick to fly
into a rage, like a winter storm beating at Wuthering Heights with wind and
hail. Heathcliff s storms of rage often abate, but they can fly into full
force without care for anything or anyone around him like the force of
mother nature on the moors. Like a winter storm, Heathcliff s strength
cannot remain with him forever. At the end of the novel, Heathcliff s rage
has abated, and he has lost the will to render any more harm, with his
death a stormy period in the history of the Earnshaws and the Lintons has
passed.

Eyewitness Testimony Memory
In the late 19th century research on eyewitness, testimony memory began, psychologists had been
studying memory, and the findings became useful for forensic psychology and law. A central issue
with studying eyewitness memory and testimony is the ecological validity of lab studies. There are
relatively few real world eyewitness memorystudies, and that causes problems for determining the
generalizability of findings in eyewitness memory. Coined by Wells (1978) estimator variables are
present at the time of a crimeand cannot be changed (i.e. witness characteristics and the type of
offence) and system variables are factors that can be manipulated to affect eyewitness accuracy (i.e.
line up procedures and interview types). The system variables... Show more content on

Biggers (1972) instructions were given to the jury that said witness confidence should be used to
assess witness accuracy. This statement was highly controversial at the time because there was only
a minor positive correlation between confidence and accuracy far from enough to say it was a
significant correlation. The U.S. Supreme Court outlined five criteria that should be used in the
future for evaluating the accuracy of eyewitness testimony. Preferable methods for evaluating the
accuracy include assessing the suggestiveness of the identification procedure, assessing the
instructions given to the witness, examine the structure of the photo or live lineup and ensure there
was no suggestibility or coercive methods. One criticism of the Biggers criteria is the lack of
system variables. Most variables within the Biggers criteria are estimator variables; which the
justice system has no control over. To reduce some of the problems that have been found with
eyewitness memory and testimony, I recommend not mistaking confidence for memory accuracy
and using multiple techniques and interviewing models to develop more accurate and consistent
information (i.e. using the cognitive enhanced interview model and combined with the Reid model
or other models). Also, courts and jurors need to test/check for suggestibility and coercive interview
or investigative practices before trials

Segmented Assimilation Theory
Alejandro Portes and Min Zhou introduced the concept of segmented assimilation, which stressed a
three part path: assimilation for those with advantages in human capital, an ethnic disadvantage for
some because of poverty and racialization, and the selective retention of ethnicity for yet others.
Assessing present levels of assimilation among today s immigrant groups requires considering the
possibility that the process itself may be changing. To ascertain this, we must first understand three
major theories of immigrant and ethnic group integration. The theories are the classic and new
assimilation models, the racial/ethnic disadvantage model, and the segmented assimilation model.
One of the general, classic assimilation theory sees immigrant/ethnic

Essay about And He Shall Smite the Wicked
If there is one message that most fairy tales have, it is that good will always triumph over evil.
That is also prevalent in the dark tale from the Brothers Grimm, The Juniper Tree . A story full
of cannibalism and homicide still manages to lead up to an iconic happy ending. Interwoven
through every ironic sentence are symbols. Connections with tales from Greek Mythology to
Biblical times hide the true macabre nature of the story of (as it is also called) My Mother Slew
Me, My Father Ate Me . The very first line of the fable, Long, long ago, some two thousand years
or so , is an allusion itself dating back to the era of Jesus Christ. The boy s untimely and

The stepmother mimics this act almost to a tee. After beheading her stepson with the lid of an
apple chest and tricking her daughter to re knock off his head, she and her daughter (against her
will) chop him up and cook him into puddings. They then share a meal together, father included,
feasting on the child s remains. This sociopathic and remorseless act also reflects upon Kronos
character traits. Unforgiving, unyielding, and controlling, he (as the mother does) sets his
downfall up through the desire for power. And she, as Kronos did, found her death through the
cunning of the person she was desiring to control. Kronos wanted to remain the Lord of the
universe eternally, and he was told that his children would overpower him. The Stepmother
feared that her stepson would inherit more than her daughter would, therefor overpowering her.
Both Kronos and the Stepmother act the same way, and eat their offspring. But, in Kronos case,
he eats a blanket full of rocks instead of Zeus (all part of Zeus plan) and becomes sick. With the
Stepmother, she hears birdsong and feels sick, as if a heavy thunderstorm were coming...so full of
distress and uneasiness...as if there were a fire in [her] veins . Her stepson s sickly sweet birdsong
is the treachery with which he resembles Zeus. After Kronos regurgitates his children, Zeus uses the

Claude Mckay Essay
Caribbean Literature 1900 1929 In the Caribbean, specifically Jamaica, during the year of 1900
1929 there were two poets whose work truly stood out and made a statement. Those poets were
Thomas Redcam (1870 1933) and Claude McKay (1878 1972). Thomas Redcam was a Jamaican
poet who came from Irish ancestry. Throughout his life he promoted Jamaican literature and was a
notable poet. He was seen as helpful and encouragement to younger poets during that time period
including Claude McKay. Both poets had such a lovefor their country and made it clear in their
poems. They spoke about the beauty of Jamaica, how through thick and thin Jamaica would always
be their heart and homeland. The themes of nature, faith, and love are very present... Show more

Though you cas me from your breas An trample me to deaf; My heart will trus you none de less,
My land I won t forget (McKay, 64). McKay makes it clear that he will never lose his faith in
Jamaica as well. In this poem Jamaica McKay believes that his country Jamaica is one that can do
no wrong.
Once again the ideas of nature, faith and love continue in his next poem Flame Heart but this
time the idea of nature becomes the more predominant one. In this work Mckay speaks how he
returns back to Jamaica. Throughout the poem he mentions aspects of nature in the land that he
can not recall but then mentions the one part of the land he remembers so vividly. McKay
speaks of poinsettia plants he remembers so well. He speaks of their beauty and color, I have
forgotten much, but I still remember The poinsettia s red, blood red in warm December (McKay,
70). He speaks so vividly of this one aspect of nature and not only does he mention the beauty of it,
he dives even deeper when mention of climate comes in. This statement about the poinsettia is
mentioned a few times in the poem giving off a strong vibe and conviction. Everything to the
speaker is a blur but through his blurs he is able to remember that red blood poinsettia plant in
warm December month.
In his last poem I Shall Return McKay touches upon all three themes in such strong points. This
poem speaks of someone who has left Jamaica but has intentions of returning. It speaks of how their

A Report On The Crash
Introduction The accident in question happened on February 2, 2005 around 07:18 Eastern
Standard Time. A Bombardier Challenger CL 600 1A11, tail number N370V, went off the
departure end of runway 6 at Teterboro Airport located in New Jersey. The Challenger exited the
runway at a ground speed of about 110 knots, through the airport fence, across a six lane
highway, where it struck a vehicle and then through a parking lot before striking a building. In
total, a cabin aide, eight passengers and one person in the building were injured. Post crash, the
aircraft was destroyed from the impact and fire that resulted from crash (NTSB, 2006). The
flight was scheduled to be an on demand passenger charter flight from Teterboro, NJ to Chicago,
IL and was operated under Part 135 by Platinum Jet Management, LLC out of Fort Lauderdale,
FL under the auspices of a charter management agreement with Darby Aviation. Platinum Jet
Management was hired for this flight by the brokerage company for a charter customer. The
pilots and cabin aide were notified of the flight on February 1st and later that day traveled out of
Fort Lauderdale, FL to NJ arriving slightly after midnight. On February 2nd, both pilots
performed a preflight inspection of the aircraft with no discrepancies noted and monitored the
airplane as the line service technicians topped off the fuel. The passengers arrived between 0630

Born Free Themes
In the movie Born Free, Virginia McKenna and Bill Travers play conservationists Joy and George
Adamson, who become the surrogate parents of three lion cubs, later giving two to a zoo and
keeping Elsa, the smallest of the bunch. As their time with the lioness continues, they are given
orders to return her to the wild, where they realize they must return her to her roots among the
African Savannah, touching on the theme of natureand the true meaning of freedom. Elsa s legacy
within this film is her role as an ambassador like role in being a bridge between mankind and nature
in helping understand the limit in humanity s ability to survive alongside the wild.
Like humans, animals are capable of emotion. Many people fear creatures like Elsa because they
are mainly known for their instinctual and predatorial nature. In the film, John Kendall, George s
boss and presumably experienced in wildlife like lions, is fearful of Elsa despite her easygoing
and merry attitude with the Adamsons. His position somewhat makes this ironic, as one would not
normally fear what they are trying to protect and take care of. Elsa portrays a wide range of
emotions that people would usually think she would be unable to comprehend. Elsa expresses
sorrow when Joy leaves for town and as she waits for her to come back home, and then elation in
Joy s return. Lions and most animals have different ways of communicating their needs and
emotions. Humans tend to attribute human interactions to animals actions,

The Ethics Of Intelligence Tests Essay
Assessments have the ability to be tremendously useful in various settings for countless reasons
across the globe. This is especially true for the educational setting. School counselors, school
psychometrists, and school psychologists will utilize several tests throughout their careers.
However, in order for assessments to be valuable and produce meaningful results, the test user
has to carefully choose the assessments they provide. It is essential that the individual who
selects the tests does research to validate that the tests being administered are appropriate for the
situation. The Stanford Binet caught my interest and I elected to study this particular
assessment to expand my knowledge of intelligence tests. The aim of this paper is to be able to
explain the purpose of the assessment, the age range of the test, the test make up and format, the
standardization sample used for norming, reliability and validity, as well as other important
aspects of the Stanford Binet. Before the Stanford Binet became what it is today, it was first
called the Binet Simon Scale. Alfred Binet believed intelligence was a multifaceted trait that
could be determined by assessing an individual s reasoning and problem solving skills. In 1905,
he and a colleague developed the first assessment of mental ability titled the Binet Simon Scale
(Miller, Lovler, McIntire, 2013, p. 9). Binet was exceedingly influential to psychologists world
wide and the assessment he co developed was utilized in

Factors Of Human Resource Planning
FACTORS TO CONSIDER IN HUMAN RESOURCE PLANNING In this assignment I ll be
talking about Tesco s Human Resource requirements and planning, which is completely
different from my previous assignments about Tesco as they were for a different unit which
mostly looked at Tesco s annual numbers etc. I ll be describing the internal and external factors
to consider when planning the human resource requirements of Tesco, and then describe how
the skills that employees require to carry out jobs in Tesco are identified. Finally for the Merit

Organisational Needs Skills Requirements Technological Changes Internal planning factors are
those that relate to what is already happening inside the business. This includes how the
organisation is changing to cope with new methods of working or new demands made on it, such
as the introduction of technology or new products or services. It is also a way of considering the
new skills that will be needed in the future and those that the existing staffs already have. The gap
between the skills already present and those that are needed can be measured. Organisational

Human Area Network (HAN), also referred to as a wirelesshuman area network (WHAN) or a

the wireless network comprises of several miniaturized Body Sensor Units (BSUs) together with a
single Body Central Unit (BCU). The development of WHAN technology started around 1995
around the idea of using wireless personal area network (WPAN) technologies to implement
communications near, on, and around the human body. About seven years later, the term HAN
came into existence to refer systems where communication is entirely on, within, and in the
immediate presence of a human body. A WHAN system can use WPAN wireless network
technologies as gateways to reach longer network ranges. Human Area Networking (HAN) is a

What Does Route 66 Mean To You Essay

of the three Abrahamic faiths, with Christianity and Islam. Although it is commonly known that
those who practice or believe in Judaismare Jews, a Jew is actually someone who is born from a
Jewish mother, and in some cases, a Jewish father,. It is a monotheistic religion that focuses on the
relationships between the creator (God), mankind, and the land of Israel. Judaism is a semi flexible
religion which dates back some years ago. In this informative essay I will explain the history,
beliefs, and culture of the Judaism ways.
Judaism originated over 4 thousand years ago in the middle east . It Was founded by Moses, but
the Jews trace their roots back to Abraham. They Judaism started off as a structured religion,
with leaders, like Saul, David, and Solomon, the ones who built the first great temple. It wasn t
until the age of the prophets, around 920 B.C and the Jewish people split into groups. Around
600 BCE the great Temple was destroyed and the leader of the Jews was murdered. During the
next 300 years ,the Jews strengthened, despite having a foreign ruler. In about 175 BCE the King
of Syria destroyed the new Temple and tried to wipe out Judaism . In 164 BCE there was a revolt
and the temple was restored .The celebration of the victory of the revolt is now the Jewish

Taking a Look at Muscular Dystrophy
The first written account of Muscular Dystrophy occurred in 1830, composed by Sir Charles
Bell (Audrey S. Penn, 2001). His essay, along with many other accounts, display instances of
younger boys getting progressively weaker, losing the ability to walk, and dying at extremely
early ages. These diagnostics continued to become more frequent up into the late 1800s and early
1900s. As these symptoms were being researched and observed it soon became prevalent that this
disease can affect all people of any sex or age. Muscular Dystrophy(or MD) is a general term
representing more than 30 inherited diseases and subcategories that affect the skeletal, and in some
cases involuntary, muscleregions (Hegde, 2012). The gene is recessively X linked, meaning that
females are carriers of the mutation even if they do not have the disease, and males will either
have it or not. The X linked characteristic of MD is the reason why most types are seen more
abundantly in males. MD can lead to the symptoms seen in the 1800s; inability to walk or
function properly, substantial weakness, and potentially death. The reason behind differencing
types of MD is because no one case is the same; they are categorized based of the areas of the
body that are affected, the ages that symptoms become present, and the level of intensity of the
disease. Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy is present only in boys, from birth; however, symptoms do
not usually show until the ages of 3 5. Another widely existing disease is

Advantages And Disadvantages Of Polymers
1.1Introduction:
Polymer is derived from the Greek word. It can be broken down into Poly means many and mer
means units. This shows that a polymer has small units called monomers in its chemical
composition which are bound together to form a large molecule. Depending on the arrangement of
different chains and how they are joined, polymers can be classified as:
пѓ Thermoplastics
пѓ Thermosets
пѓ Elastomers
1.2 Types of Polymers replacing Metallic Components in Consumer Application: To make our lives
considerably easier, home appliances use circuit control, safety devices and resistance lead. Some of
the devices are thermostat, transducer, Light Dependent Resistor [LDR], motor, etc. some of the
materials used are Aluminum, Antimony, Barium,... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
There is design freedom, low weight, no corrosion, transparency when plastic is used. On the other
hand metals are stiff and strong and so can be machined and welded and this leads to high tolerance
which can be used at high temperatures. Thermoplastics which can be used as metal substitutes
include nylon, polyamide [PA], polybutylene terephthalate [PBT], poly oxymethylene [POM],
polyphenylenesulphide [PPS], polyarylmide [PARA], polypthalamide [PPA], polyetheretherketone
[PEEK], etc. these polymers offer high tensile strength and are flexible.
1.4 Advantages of Polymer Material for Mass Production Now a days there is a very little gap
between use of metals and polymers. Use of polymer is increasing day by day due to the following
reasons:
пѓ Design freedom: it is very easy to mold polymers in any shape and form like injection
molding and blow molding at a very low cost. Polymers can be treated with chemicals to bring out
multiple properties in them which is not possible easily with metals.
пѓ Performance: polymers have high benefits. They reduce the weight, resistant to chemical and
impact, corrosion free, etc. the main reason for the use of polymers is the reduction in weight.
пѓ Efficiency: due to metal replacement there is an increase in manufacturing efficiency as
multiple individual components in a product can be brought together into a single component using

Okonkwo And Ikemefuna
Okonkwo lost himself after losing everything he had. He didn t have a real enough sense of self
to adapt to all the changes that hit him like a whirlwind. All Okonkwo ever wanted was to be
better than his father. Not to prove to himself that he was better, but to prove it to the other
villagers. As a way to achieve this, he hardened himself at young age and took lead role in his
homelife. Okonkwowas never complacent until Ikemefuna came only. Okonkwo had plenty of
children, but none of them to ever be just right. Nwoye reminded him too much Unoka and put the
fear of repetition in his heart and Enzima was perfect, she knew Okonkwo like the back of her
hand but she was of course, a female. Ikemefuna took up the son role.

The Change Nature of Islam
A.Introduction
How to describe Islam correctly? This question has been a concern for many International Relations
experts. Experts realize that they face new issues in the New Millennium after almost five decades
discussing the Cold War and how to end it. In the Cold War, the United States and the Soviet Union
took a central stage. Both of them were country. In present time, non state actors have taken part in
international politics issues. Terrorists and religious groups are prominent actor in analyzing the
current situation in international politics.
The 11 September 2001 incident had disenchanted experts that Islam is substantial factor in
international politics. When experts and mass media tried to know what public in general ... Show

This situation potentially leads Muslims and non Muslims into conflict. In non Muslim dominated
countries, this situation will not occur due to the limitedness of Muslim s power.
This statement has clearer and deeper reason rather than other assumption because this explanation
is based on verses in The Koran. But, this argument could not explain some phenomena that
occurred in a Muslim country. For example, Indonesia, which is dominated by Muslims, applies
democratic system in it constitution and holds general election to choose their leader and their
representative. Actually, democratic system and general election is not part of The Koran. In fact,
the Koran has its own system to choose leader.
Finally, what is the essential core of Islam is a complex question to answer. But, based on
Muhammad s leadership historic fact, Islam was not promoting aggressive approach or anti
tolerant values in it early ages. Thus, the approach method to promote Islam is based on actor
involved in that process. The Crusade and Arab Israel War impact towards Islam
The Crusade is always discussed in two contexts (Supardi Hasibuan). The first context is that
Crusades was part of history repetition and the Western civilization was against the Eastern
civilization at one point. Whereas, the second context is that Crusades was the Holy War between
Christian and Islam for Holy City, Jerusalem.
According to Supardi Hasibuan,

Analysis Of Nathaniel Bacon s The Name Of The People
In Bacon s Declaration in the Name of the People , Nathaniel Bacon lists every major offense of
Sir William Berkeley, many of which collide with one another to display how the governor s
actions and inactions built upon each other to create turmoil for the people of Virginia. However,
Berkeley defends himself and proclaims Bacon a traitor in, The Declaration and Remonstrance of
Sir William Berkeleyhis most sacred Majesties Governor and Captain Generall of Virginia . In
order to gainthe king s favor, both men write separate declarations, but one has everything to lose
while the other has everything to gain.
The first of the offenses listed by Bacon is the demanding of unjust taxes which are not being
used to better the colony at least not for the underclass; thus, Berkeley has also been accused of
abusing his power as governor. With the purpose of monetary gain, Bacon applies for a trading
license but is denied by Berkeley and the council, which consists of many of Berkeley s cronies.
This leads Bacon to make the allegation that Berkeley has made a monopoly of the beaver trade
which is true but Berkeley only denied Bacon s request because he knew Bacon wanted more
power and where there is money, there is power.
In the midst of the two men s quarreling, the lower classes of Virginia are demanding land. They
begin to migrate to Indian Territory and are consequently murdered by the Indians. Though there is
an army at his command, Berkeley does not use them against the

The Fast and Violent Fall of Societies
Societies fall like comets falling to earth; fast and violently. Rome, Samurai in Japan, the civil
rights era, and the society in the novel delirium fell fast and changed everything. A corrupt
government, citizens in poverty, and lack of rights and freedoms all lead to the downfall of great
societies.
Some great societies fall because of a corrupt government, and leaders. The government in the
society of Delirium is ruthless and harsh. They have raids where they make sure everyone is
valid. While checking everyone they are strict, harsh, and unforgiving. The regulators the raiders
come inside the citizen s house, tear their walls down, and look for signs of suspicious activity.
All laws are suspended on raid nights. The government is heartless, and will eliminate everything
their way without a second thought. They will kill animals that are barking too loudly, or kick a
child looking at them the wrong way. The government invades anything social because they are
afraid everyone will catch the deliria, love. When they invade, they let dogs loose, club people,
and worst of all they enjoy it. The leaders of the samurai in Japan were harsh like the government
in delirium was. Young samurai went for days without eating, marched barefoot in snow on long
journeys, and held stiff postures for hours without complaining. In order The young man s fencing
master used to whack him with a wooden sword throughout the day whenever he least expected

Management Approaches
Contemporary Theories of Management
Contingency Theory
Basically, contingency theory asserts that when managers make a decision, they must take into
account all aspects of the current situation and act on those aspects that are key to the situation at
hand. Basically, it s the approach that it depends. For example, the continuing effort to identify the
best leadership or management style might now conclude that the best style depends on the
situation. If one is leading troops in the Persian Gulf, an autocratic style is probably best (of
course, many might argue here, too). If one is leading a hospital or university, a more participative
and facilitative leadership style is probably best.

How the Approaches are Different from One Another
Sociotechnical systems theory is a contemporary approach to management that says that a proper
combination of workers (the social system) and their knowledge, training and tools (the technical
system) leads to organizational effectiveness in satisfying customers. Emphasis: Social + Technical
Quantitative management is another contemporary approach to management that prioritizes
mathematical or statistical analysis as basis for decisions. Emphasis: Quantitative analysis
The organizational behavior contemporary approach mainly considers the behaviors and

The Influence Of Food In The United States
The United States of America is a nation built upon immigrants from various parts of the world.
The food in the United States resembles the history of the people that lived in certain areas. When
you think of an American dish you would think of burgers and fires or fried chicken (US Food).
Even though these are popular dishes to have in America it doesn t resemble the multicultural
people that live there. There are certain foods that you may consider to be American but there are
also many dishes influenced by different cultures (US Food). An example of this is pastaor pizza.
Many people would not consider this to be an American dish because the dish originated in Italy.

fries. Another southwestern specialty from the state of Arizona is cheese crisp. It is a tortilla

The Physics of Piano
One of the most common musical instruments in many homes is the piano; and most people have
the opportunity for even a few lessons in their youth. However, despite the simplicity of its lines
and keys (88 keys), 2 3 pedals on the modern piano, and either upright (vertical) or grand style
(horizontal), the physics of the pianoare both interesting and complex. The modern piano is a
descendent of the harpsichord, which used a plucking technique much like that of plucking the
strings of a harp or lute. Bartolomeo Crisotofori, an Italian craftsman, substituted felt hammers in
place of the plucking mechanism, making the instrument capable of graduations of tone and
timber. He called his new instrument the Gravicembalo col piano e forte (a harpsichord with
louds and softs). This was later shortened to the piano and with critiques from Baroque
composers like Bach, a number of improvements were made to sound quality and tonality
eventually emerging as the preferred keyboard instrument for Mozart, Haydn, and Beethoven.
Over the course of centuries to different piano types have emerged. The grand piano, from 5 6 to
8 or 9 in length horizontal to the upright piano, more suitable for the home, which also exists in
differing sizes, 3 5; in height (Parakilas). The mechanism of a piano consists of pressing on a key
(either black or white) on the keyboard causing a felt covered hammer to strike steel strings that are
various lengths and tensions. The hammers rebound; allowing the

Violations of Human Rights in the Arab-Israeli Conflict
Since the beginning of the Arab Israeli conflict there have been countless human rights violations
committed by both sides, but the majority of violations have been carried out by Israel against the
Palestinians. In looking at the conflict, one may believe that every attack has featured a human
rights violation, but in order to be able to properly determine what human rightsviolations are, one
must know the history of human rights and how they are protected. The idea of human rights
started with a man named Henri Dunant, who was a merchant present during the Battle of Solferino
in Italy. In viewing this battle from a distance, Henri was disturbed by the mass amounts of dead
and injured soldiers that were left without treatment. He... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The UN Human Rights Council was formed at the 2005 World Summit and has the mission of
investigating human rights violations around the world. The Rights Council works in conjunction
with the UN Security Council and the International Criminal Court to prevent and deal with
human rights violations. This cooperation led to the acceptance of Resolution 1674 in April of
2006, which calls all parties that are engaged in armed conflict to follow The Hague Conventions
of 1899 and 1907 and Protocols I and II from the Geneva Conventions. In adopting this resolution
the UN Security Council wanted to focus on the protection of civilians during armed conflict and
they stated that, Appropriate steps would be adopted if the deliberate targeting of civilians and
protected persons came to the attention of the Council.
Besides these international organizations there are many NGOs, Non governmental organizations,
which include: Amnesty International, Human Rights Watch, and the International Service for
Human Rights look for and examine possible rights violations around the world. Combined these
two forces, the IOs and NGOs, provide the world s policing force against human rights violations
and ensure that all of humanity is treated equally.
It is from this police force that many of the human rights violations committed historically and
presently in the Arab Israeli conflict are coming into the light and

Designing A Well Secure Solution
Comprehensive and Secure Solution In order to design and construct a well secured network, many
features must be taken into consideration, such as the topology and placement of hosts within the
network, the selection of hardware and software technologies, and the successful arrangement of
each component. I will discuss securing a LAN from the viewpoint of the network architect
considering two main areas: the network topologywhich comprises the physical and logical design
of the network; and securing the routers and switches which connect segments and hosts to form
the network.
Initial Assumptions and Challenges
Finding some of the best practices and examining some of the security issues found in small to
medium sized networks is a ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Topology and Architecture
Topology is the arrangement of the various elements (links, nodes, etc.) of a computer network.
Essentially, it is the structure of a network and may be depicted physically or logically. On the
physical side, a network needs provide distribution to the offices or buildings where the users are
located.
In laying out the logical topology we need to consider the arrangement of devices on the network.
The way data is moved across the network may include which groups of users and devices should
be grouped alongside which parts of the network are trusted. The diagram below lays out the
proposed network design. The design includes one router connected to the internet, a core router, a
firewall, an intranet switch, three workgroup switches, multiple workstations, and servers. If the
business wanted to consider more advanced management of the network from an IT perspective
we propose adding a few management workstations and servers as well as setting up a
management VLAN (virtual LAN). The management VLAN will operate on a separate VLAN
from the regular user traffic.
Security
A hacker looks for poorly configured network devices. Common vulnerabilities include information
gathering, sniffing, spoofing, and denial of service. As you see in our diagram, we propose to
implement several points of protection,

The Positive And Negative Effects Of Altruism
Suppose a reader is reading a mystery novel and he is close to completing the book; however, it
is very late at night and he has to wake up early the next morning. He has two options: he can
finish the book, fulfill his desire to know who killed the victim, and not get the proper amount of
sleep he needs, or he can go to sleep, receive plenty of rest, feel refreshed the next morning, and
wait until that evening to finish the novel. He would be altruistic to his body and his health if he
went to bed early; however, he would be selfish to his body if he stayed up and finished the novel
(Le Morvan). Altruism, which has both positive and negative effects, is a controversial character
trait; however, it ultimately promotes compassion for the human race and help for the ecosystem.
In a world where altruism exists, selfishness exists as well (Le Morvan). Selfishness is when a
person puts his or her interests before other people s interests, and altruism is when a person puts
other people s interests before his or her own interests (Le Morvan). Martin Luther King believed
with all of his heart and soul that every man must decide whether he will walk in the light of
creative altruism or in the darkness of destructive selfishness (Soosai Nathan). People have a choice
to help others or to help themselves, and their decisions can either be helpful or destructive,
altruistic or selfish. According to numerous studies, different environmental and circumstantial
factors affect how a

Decriminalization Of Recreational Drugs Though there are many studies to show that drug use amongst young people have become more tolerated, there is also a high number of the population that believe do not accept the deviant behaviour of regular drug use and support the prohibition on recreational drug use. This counter argument is supported by evidence from James Crouch in Opinium Surveys (2015), stating that in 2014 when 2000 UK adults were given a survey on druglegalisation, despite 33% of the population believing that recreational drugs such as cannabis should be legalised, a high percentage of the population (53%) were in support of illegal drugs used for entertainment remaining criminalised. • 4. Cultural Differences In Tayo s Ceremony One of the main civic and moral lessons that is displayed throughout Edgar Huntly is the mistreatment of the Native American culture by the hands of the white, privileged and superior culture. This is something that is seen through the eyes of Edgar throughout the second half of the novel, where he believes that the Native Americans are savages with no rules or responsibilities who mindlessly killed those that he loved for fun, with no rational decision making abilities. The irony that is found within this, is the fact that the savage, irrational killer turns out to be Edgar himself, who convinces himself that he killed those Natives out of self defense in order to protect himself from those who have no rational abilities to protect themselves.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Tayo struggles in defending his cultural identity because of his white and Native American cultural background. The moral lesson that both novels struggle in properly addressing is the ability to accept different cultures regardless of their background and accepting individuals regardless. Edgar is judgemental based on the Native Americans lifestyles, not only because of his own prejudices but also his own in regards to the message that has been established based on his culture. This is not the same case for Tayo in Ceremony but the lack of cultural appreciation and understanding of cultural differences is a problem that is addressed. The civic lessons that are addressed involves personal responsibilities in serving justice and facing an entire community independently instead of as a whole and a team. Edgar takes it upon himself to find Waldegraves murderer, regardless of the fact that it is not his responsibility. He believes it is his civic duty in order to bring forth justice. This civic responsibility is addressed in Ceremony, when Tayo is forced into WWII, he is forced to bring justice to his country as apart of a team instead of a sole individual against an entire ... • 6. The Portrayal of Differences in Pygmalion by Bernard Shaw... Examine the portrayal of difference (e.g physical limitations, mental illness, race, class, or sexual identity) in at least two literary works you have studied. It can be noted that throughout both texts difference can be found portrayed in different ways. The texts I will be focussing on are Pygmalion by Bernard Shaw and The Handmaids Tale by Margaret Atwood. Whether it be the difference in class between Eliza Doolittle her father and her mentors Mr Henry Higgins and Colonel Pickering or in the case of the Handmaids tale of Offred status in class in comparison to the Commander and his wife. Difference can also be noticed by the different occupations and titles denoted by people in the different texts such as doctor and commander . This essay shall also explore how noticeable the differences are of Eliza, before she became a lady and how the difference between the normal life and now the Gilead regime. Of the three questions offered I felt that this one in particular stood out as having the most links between each other with the portrayal of difference in both texts being noticeable. The difference in class is particularly apparent in The Handmaids Tale in which people are denoted by colours according to their rankings. In the case of Offred she is denoted by dressing all in red to recognise her fertility and ripeness. However Offred also sees this as a connotation of blood, sometimes being something of a life force for her, yet also associating it with violence and ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 7. Pride And Pride In Beowulf Beowulf is a story that has been told over thousands of years. Beowulf is the story of one of the greatest warriors known to man. Even the man who claims to be the best of them all has a weakness and has faced temptations. Beowulf s inability to control his lust for women, power, and pride is what continues the deconstruction of the kingdom. The curse continues to rampage through the village of the Danesdue to man s weakness. One of the first seven deadly sinsthat Beowulf is faced with is the theory of pride. Beowulf will do anything to further his reputation as the greatest warrior. He intends to encourage people to think that he is the god like figure who can be trusted and cannot be faced by temptation. In the text Beowulf says, Scarcely did I survive that with my life, the struggle beneath the water, barely did I accomplish the task, the fight was all but ended... ( Unknown, 30) Beowulf says this to help encourage this idea that even in his weakest moment he was strong enough to come out of a very tough battle. Beowulf is not a credible source though. Nobody had witnessed this battle to see how troublesome it truly was. Consequently Beowulf has a motive to lie about how tough this was in order to feed his desire for pride. The Danish people often felt a sense of worship for Beowulf. Beowulf had come to save them from Grendel, so they felt he was their hero. The author refers to Beowulf and says, they rejoiced in the prince, that they could behold him safe and ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 8. Legalization of Drugs Essay The current hot topic debate about the legalization of marijuana for medical exposes the long lasting debate about the economic viability of prohibiting certain kind of drugs considered illicit. Many social costs to society are attributable to illicit drugs, along with tobacco, alcohol, and guns. In fact, each of these vices is allegedly responsible for $200 billion annual expenditure in social costs of the USA (Donohue, 2010). Interestingly, all these commodities mentioned above have common characteristics: a sizeable proportion of consumers responsibly use each of them hence virtually zero social externality; and a trivial subset of society individuals irresponsibly use each of these commodity to create high social externalities. The... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Of course, their claim is relatively true because drug addicts produce negative externalities that affect non market participants who include dependents of the drug addicts. This direct causal relationship between drugs and crime is due to statistics that reveal a large proportion of the newly incinerated convicts have recent prior drug use. One then could counter this premise with the argument that energy drinks cause crimes in case criminals are found to have drunk energy drinks just before committing crimes. This shallow assumption also excludes studies that reveal marijuana as neither a gateway drug (its use leads to use of dangerous drugs like cocaine and Heroin) nor its possession (which is a crime in itself) causes criminal tendencies. Their causal link relationship between drugs and crime negates other factors that include demographics and socio economics. Proponents of prohibition claim that it reduces demand and restrict supply, thereby diminishing drugs use, and the costs of illness. Prohibition is certain to reduce the supply of drugs due to the stiff penalties imposed on suppliers. However, their argument lacks authentic verification as numerous studies within the USA and from other countries where these illicit drugs have been criminalized paint a different picture. Prohibition in this case refers to a government decree against the exchange of a good or a service ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 9. The Fight For Clean Air The Fight for Clean Air in Texas Public health often involves out of multiple disciplines but at its core, resides in the general interest of the health of populations. How healthy a population is, often depends on their overall environment. Poor air quality can cause undesirable health issues among individuals in sensitive portions of the population who are asthmatic, have lung disease, or even cardiovascular conditions. Especially in areas where communities are affected by the outcomes of policies that directly impact the health of individuals, their safety, and other things. These issues often stem from very similar risk factors on multiple levels regarding the individual, inter intrapersonal, community, institutional and policy regulations. In Houston, Texas one of the current issues is air pollution. Several populations are at risk of suffering from an increase in respiratory diseases. The Environmental Defense Fund (EDF) brought attention to the issue earlier this year with a four part series of articles. They highlighted an increase in ozonelevels across the city during 2015. It is suggested that this could possibly cause Houston to exceed EPA regulations. Houston and other surrounding areas in Texas need to commit to changes that can lower ozone average levels in 2016. People living in these communities are at particular risk of serious health effects due ground level ozone and smog. There is a wealth of scientific evidence on the development of asthma, ... The film (Egoyan, et al., 2006) goes through several states of emotional stress between the couple. First being denial. Grant is in denial for most of the film. He does not want to believe that his wife is slowly leaving him emotionally. It also hurts him that she cannot remember much about their marriage but can remember the infidelity. Unfortunately, the Samantha s boyfriend was sleeping upstairs and died in the fire. This tragic event not only took Samantha s home but her loved one and possessions. I have selected the Basic CrisisIntervention Theory because I believe it fits best with this crisis. There are four stages that occurs when individuals are in a state of emotional disequilibrium, which are disturbed equilibrium, brief therapy or grief work, working through the grief, and restoration of equilibrium (James Gilliland, 2017). It is essential to guide Samantha through her crisis by working on her grief and restoration and balance of her emotional equilibrium. Crisis Intervention In basic crisis intervention theory, the client s behavior and response to the crisis is normal and only temporary (James Gilliland, 2017). The grief behaviors that the client may display are preoccupation with loss, identification with the lost one, guilt and hostility, disorganization in daily routine, and somatic complaints (James Gilliland, 2017). Everyone, from East to West, knows about these religions because of their historical impact and their continued influence today. However, even though Christianity and Islam are two of the most popular religions, many people know little about them, especially their similarities. This essay will discuss how Islamand Christianityare similar but different in their views of the Bible, Jesus, and God. First off, let s begin by comparing the Islamic and Christian beliefs of the Bible. For Christians the Bible is their holy text and the word of God, while the Islamic belief is that the Bible is the word of prophets and it has been corrupted by the centuries; there are multiple versions of the Bible and it has been mistranslated. Also, Muslims only find truth in the Bible if it agrees with the Qur an. Although Muslims do not hold it to the same degree of importance as the Christians do, it is still regarded as a holy text in both religions. The V.O.C. could indeed be a ruthless cartel in securing trade from its competition and in dealing with indigenous populations around the world, as in the case of slavery where human beings were reduced to mere commodities to be bought and sold. (Totman) One merchant ship was the first successful Dutch emissary to arrive in Japan in 1600. The Liefde arrived in Japan nearly two years after it left Rotterdam on 27 June 1598 with four other heavily armed ships. Their mission was to go to the Moluccas to buy spices as well as to explore the Silver ryke (the Silver Empire) of Japan. They were later informed that they were also to assault and plunder Spanish and Portuguese strongholds along their route in Africa and Asia. Only the Leifde survived to reach the Usuki Bay in Kyushu. The original 110 man crew was reduced to 24 emaciated survivors. The Japanese inhabitants of the area pillaged the cannons, rifles, and other assorted weapons, as well as the figurehead of the ship, a representation of Erasmus (which can still be seen at the National Museum in Tokyo). Crew members Jan Joosten van Lodensteyn and the single Englishman aboard the ship, William Adams, were taken to Tokugawa Ieyasu in Edo to be interrogated by a Portuguese interpreter. The Shogun was pleased with their responses and crewmembers were compensated for their losses and were allowed to live in Japanese society. The Effects Of Poor Infrastructures On Nigerian Government... 149074128 EFFECTS AND SOLUTIONS TO POOR INFRASTRUCTURES IN NIGERIAN GOVERNMENT PARASTATALS In all these developments, there is the underlying assumption that globalization is good for all and that its benefits are shared out (even if not equally) all over the world. The more developed countries benefit while the least developed countries tend to remain impoverished and do not share in the benefits. The combined effect of the global fluidity of finance capital, the growth of foreign direct investment, and the emergence of global corporations have greatly undermined the economic and political sovereignty of states especially the poor ones. It must be emphasized that the so called globalized world is riddled with imperfections. Poetry Compare Contrast Essay The sonnet, Time Does Not Bring Relief by Edna St. Vincent Millay, and the poem, Gouge, Adze, Rasp, Hammer by Chris Forhan, are both about the emotional pain of a lost love. Both of the poems follow the narrators after their losses, but each speaker handles with their situation differently. The narrator in Time Does Not Bring Relief can not find liberation from her heart ache, and experiences a more powerful and unavoidable sadness than the narrator from Gouge, Adze, Rasp, Hammer, who copes with his heartache more successfully, and eventually begins the healing process, as exemplified by the use of tone, structure and imagery in these poems. Firstly, the difference in tone between the poems clarifies the fact that the woman in Time Does Not Bring Relief is inconsolable, while the man in Gouge, Adze, Rasp, Hammer, has begun the healing... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Time Does Not Bring Relief is a Shakespearean sonnet, which brings a structure to the narrator s writing, which is contrary to the free verse that is used in the poem Gouge, Adze, Rouge, Hammer , which is more casual and relaxed. The narrator follows the rhyme and structure of the Shakespearean sonnet instead of using free verse to express herself, which is interesting to note because she employs the structure of a sonnet, despite the fact that she is going through powerful storms of unrelenting grief. It can be interpreted that the structure of her writing may stabilize her through the troubling time of her loss. The free verse that the narrator uses in Gouge, Adze, Rasp, Hammer, is more expressive and free because it lacks a definite structure. The narrator is able to write about his feelings without being tied down and concerned with form. The use of free verse in the poem can be interpreted as the narrator s internal misery that displays itself as amiability and composure on the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Merriam Webster defines honesty as being, free of deceit and untruthfulness; sincere. Some people view honesty as the foremost virtue in a trustworthy person. However, this world is tainted with many who deceive others to be revered, although when you turn around they will be divergent from your views typically lying to benefit themselves at the expense of your state. A common term for these people is a fake person or a snake . It is remarkably difficult to find a truly honest man, and when found, many are taken advantage of. Advantages And Disadvantages Of Pva And Cellulose INTRODUCTION 1.1 Objectives Developing environmentally friendly polymer composites that are reliable and economical offering all the advantages of petroleum based plastics was the driving force behind this work. The objective of this work was to prepare degradable composites based on polyvinyl alcohol, PVA and cellulose. Both PVA and cellulose are available from renewable resources and the properties of PVA are comparable to properties of polystyrene and polypropylene. Another advantage of PVA from point of commercialization is its processing similarity to polyolefins. This particular property allows the use of existing technology to process PVA . Eyewitness Testimony Memory In the late 19th century research on eyewitness, testimony memory began, psychologists had been studying memory, and the findings became useful for forensic psychology and law. A central issue with studying eyewitness memory and testimony is the ecological validity of lab studies. There are relatively few real world eyewitness memorystudies, and that causes problems for determining the generalizability of findings in eyewitness memory. Coined by Wells (1978) estimator variables are present at the time of a crimeand cannot be changed (i.e. witness characteristics and the type of offence) and system variables are factors that can be manipulated to affect eyewitness accuracy (i.e. line up procedures and interview types). The system variables... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Biggers (1972) instructions were given to the jury that said witness confidence should be used to assess witness accuracy. This statement was highly controversial at the time because there was only a minor positive correlation between confidence and accuracy far from enough to say it was a significant correlation. The U.S. Supreme Court outlined five criteria that should be used in the future for evaluating the accuracy of eyewitness testimony. Preferable methods for evaluating the accuracy include assessing the suggestiveness of the identification procedure, assessing the instructions given to the witness, examine the structure of the photo or live lineup and ensure there was no suggestibility or coercive methods. One criticism of the Biggers criteria is the lack of system variables. Most variables within the Biggers criteria are estimator variables; which the justice system has no control over. To reduce some of the problems that have been found with eyewitness memory and testimony, I recommend not mistaking confidence for memory accuracy and using multiple techniques and interviewing models to develop more accurate and consistent information (i.e. using the cognitive enhanced interview model and combined with the Reid model or other models). Also, courts and jurors need to test/check for suggestibility and coercive interview or investigative practices before trials ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Once again the ideas of nature, faith and love continue in his next poem Flame Heart but this time the idea of nature becomes the more predominant one. In this work Mckay speaks how he returns back to Jamaica. Throughout the poem he mentions aspects of nature in the land that he can not recall but then mentions the one part of the land he remembers so vividly. McKay speaks of poinsettia plants he remembers so well. He speaks of their beauty and color, I have forgotten much, but I still remember The poinsettia s red, blood red in warm December (McKay, 70). He speaks so vividly of this one aspect of nature and not only does he mention the beauty of it, he dives even deeper when mention of climate comes in. Elsa s legacy within this film is her role as an ambassador like role in being a bridge between mankind and nature in helping understand the limit in humanity s ability to survive alongside the wild. Like humans, animals are capable of emotion. Many people fear creatures like Elsa because they are mainly known for their instinctual and predatorial nature. In the film, John Kendall, George s boss and presumably experienced in wildlife like lions, is fearful of Elsa despite her easygoing and merry attitude with the Adamsons. His position somewhat makes this ironic, as one would not normally fear what they are trying to protect and take care of. Elsa portrays a wide range of emotions that people would usually think she would be unable to comprehend. This author gives great examples of driving on Route 66, and what it represents. Route 66 represents America and its beautiful features. In the story the author states, Route 66, to me, represents America before we had the same stores at every mall and the same restaurants along every Main Street. It represents an America where people could open a diner or a tourists attraction or a store on the town square and do something unique and interesting and make a living at it. It has many original features, along with many distinctive places. Many people often opened small businesses along this highway. This historic road led people to many places, such as, Chicago to Santa Monica. This road was also known as THE road. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... It is a type of methodology that having a lot of risk analysis about the difficulties occurs and the early version of program can be developed quickly by using prototyping. Next, this methodology is having strong communication with the end user due to its cycle (also referring to spirals in this methodology) keep repeating. It also is using the latest module that created during the previous cycle for developing next prototype. Next, when the troubles are not resolved able, developers can realize earlier. Although it is commonly known that those who practice or believe in Judaismare Jews, a Jew is actually someone who is born from a Jewish mother, and in some cases, a Jewish father,. It is a monotheistic religion that focuses on the relationships between the creator (God), mankind, and the land of Israel. Judaism is a semi flexible religion which dates back some years ago. In this informative essay I will explain the history, beliefs, and culture of the Judaism ways. Judaism originated over 4 thousand years ago in the middle east . It Was founded by Moses, but the Jews trace their roots back to Abraham. They Judaism started off as a structured religion, with leaders, like Saul, David, and Solomon, the ones who built the first great temple. It wasn t until the age of the prophets, around 920 B.C and the Jewish people split into groups. Around 600 BCE the great Temple was destroyed and the leader of the Jews was murdered. During the next 300 years ,the Jews strengthened, despite having a foreign ruler. In about 175 BCE the King of Syria destroyed the new Temple and tried to wipe out Judaism . • 46. Taking a Look at Muscular Dystrophy The first written account of Muscular Dystrophy occurred in 1830, composed by Sir Charles Bell (Audrey S. Penn, 2001). His essay, along with many other accounts, display instances of younger boys getting progressively weaker, losing the ability to walk, and dying at extremely early ages. These diagnostics continued to become more frequent up into the late 1800s and early 1900s. As these symptoms were being researched and observed it soon became prevalent that this disease can affect all people of any sex or age. Muscular Dystrophy(or MD) is a general term representing more than 30 inherited diseases and subcategories that affect the skeletal, and in some cases involuntary, muscleregions (Hegde, 2012). The gene is recessively X linked, meaning that females are carriers of the mutation even if they do not have the disease, and males will either have it or not. The X linked characteristic of MD is the reason why most types are seen more abundantly in males. MD can lead to the symptoms seen in the 1800s; inability to walk or function properly, substantial weakness, and potentially death. The reason behind differencing types of MD is because no one case is the same; they are categorized based of the areas of the body that are affected, the ages that symptoms become present, and the level of intensity of the disease. Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy is present only in boys, from birth; however, symptoms do not usually show until the ages of 3 5. Another widely existing disease is ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Use of polymer is increasing day by day due to the following reasons: пѓ Design freedom: it is very easy to mold polymers in any shape and form like injection molding and blow molding at a very low cost. Polymers can be treated with chemicals to bring out multiple properties in them which is not possible easily with metals. пѓ Performance: polymers have high benefits. They reduce the weight, resistant to chemical and impact, corrosion free, etc. the main reason for the use of polymers is the reduction in weight. пѓ Efficiency: due to metal replacement there is an increase in manufacturing efficiency as multiple individual components in a product can be brought together into a single component using ... In non Muslim dominated countries, this situation will not occur due to the limitedness of Muslim s power. This statement has clearer and deeper reason rather than other assumption because this explanation is based on verses in The Koran. But, this argument could not explain some phenomena that occurred in a Muslim country. For example, Indonesia, which is dominated by Muslims, applies democratic system in it constitution and holds general election to choose their leader and their representative. Actually, democratic system and general election is not part of The Koran. In fact, the Koran has its own system to choose leader. • 54. The Physics of Piano One of the most common musical instruments in many homes is the piano; and most people have the opportunity for even a few lessons in their youth. However, despite the simplicity of its lines and keys (88 keys), 2 3 pedals on the modern piano, and either upright (vertical) or grand style (horizontal), the physics of the pianoare both interesting and complex. The modern piano is a descendent of the harpsichord, which used a plucking technique much like that of plucking the strings of a harp or lute. Bartolomeo Crisotofori, an Italian craftsman, substituted felt hammers in place of the plucking mechanism, making the instrument capable of graduations of tone and timber. He called his new instrument the Gravicembalo col piano e forte (a harpsichord with louds and softs). This was later shortened to the piano and with critiques from Baroque composers like Bach, a number of improvements were made to sound quality and tonality eventually emerging as the preferred keyboard instrument for Mozart, Haydn, and Beethoven. Over the course of centuries to different piano types have emerged. The grand piano, from 5 6 to 8 or 9 in length horizontal to the upright piano, more suitable for the home, which also exists in differing sizes, 3 5; in height (Parakilas). The mechanism of a piano consists of pressing on a key (either black or white) on the keyboard causing a felt covered hammer to strike steel strings that are various lengths and tensions. The Positive And Negative Effects Of Altruism Suppose a reader is reading a mystery novel and he is close to completing the book; however, it is very late at night and he has to wake up early the next morning. He has two options: he can finish the book, fulfill his desire to know who killed the victim, and not get the proper amount of sleep he needs, or he can go to sleep, receive plenty of rest, feel refreshed the next morning, and wait until that evening to finish the novel. He would be altruistic to his body and his health if he went to bed early; however, he would be selfish to his body if he stayed up and finished the novel (Le Morvan). Altruism, which has both positive and negative effects, is a controversial character trait; however, it ultimately promotes compassion for the human race and help for the ecosystem. In a world where altruism exists, selfishness exists as well (Le Morvan). Selfishness is when a person puts his or her interests before other people s interests, and altruism is when a person puts other people s interests before his or her own interests (Le Morvan). Martin Luther King believed with all of his heart and soul that every man must decide whether he will walk in the light of creative altruism or in the darkness of destructive selfishness (Soosai Nathan).
