1984 Is A Dystopia
It seems as though every time a society attempts to create a utopia, it has the opposite effect. 1984 is
an example of an attempt at a utopian society that results in a place that is definitely not perfect. In
most instances, a dystopia will be created when trying to make a utopia (Hough). There are multiple
reasons as to why a utopia cannot work. Some of these reasons include resources and people in the
society. George Orwell s 1984, along with past governments, show that a utopia can never be truly
created and that it will always turn into a dystopia.
One reason why a perfect society can never be made is due to the fact that even though it might be set
up perfectly, we cannot change the fact that people are imperfect. Any bit of imperfection is all it takes
to cause something to turn from perfect to imperfect. One writer said about utopian societies, Even
with such optimism, the flawed individual is still inserted into otherwise improved societies (Hough
1). This quote explains how the society in general is improved, but the people are not. Governments
have tried to change the way people think to create perfect humans. People are influenced to think
exactly how the government wants them to, and teaches them from a young age to love the Party and
the government in which they live. Their right to make their own assessment is being taken away. It is
true that governments are often successful in brainwashing the majority of the population; however,
they can never control

Audre Lorde Lost In Space
The geographical location of a place influences the queer culture that forms there. Culture is defined
as the sum of the attitudes, customs and beliefs that distinguish one group of people from another
(Dictionary.com). Sheri Inness, author of Lost in Space: Queer Geography and the Politics of
Location, argues that our relationship to a place and culture become elements in the construction of
our individual and collective identities whether queer or straight (148). In Zami, a biomythography by
Audre Lorde, the author describes many occurrences wherein her identity and behaviour was shaped
by her geographical location. Both of these works helped to raise my awareness of the cultural effect
on the queer community. The cultural standards presented in Zami and Lost in Space and there ...

Audre s interaction with her friends, the Branded , in New York City is a nurturing relationship. She
acts as a mother figure to the members of the Branded and Gennie (121, 88). This is due to her having
her own place that she had opened up to the other Branded members and her mother like instinct
towards Gennie. In Stamford, both Audre and Ginger are working class, black lesbians (140). This
puts them on a level playing field, and they regard each other as equals. Lastly, when Audre moves to
Mexico City she forms a relationship with Eudora, who acts as a mother figure towards her (172).
Now Audre is the one being nurtured and taught by Eudora. This is in contrast to her previous
relationships in that all of her other lovers and friends have been close in age to her, but Eudora is
considerably older than Audre when they begin their relationship. All of these examples demonstrate
that every time Audre moves to a new place she has a dislocation of identity (Inness, 138) and has to
re establish her personal identity with every location in regards to the cultural

Henry Wells Fargo Research Paper
ells Fargo
Businessmen in New York establish Wells, Fargo and Company, destined to become the leading
freight and banking company of the West.
The California economy boomed after the discovery of gold at Sutter s Mill in 1849, spurring a huge
demand for shipping. Henry Wells and William Fargo joined with several other New York investors to
create Wells, Fargo and Company to serve and profit from this demand. In July 1852, the company
began transporting its first loads of freight between the East Coast and the isolated mining camps of
California. From the beginning, Wells, Fargo and Company also engaged in banking, making good
profits in the traffic of gold dust and providing loans that helped sustain the growth of the California
economy.

Uses Of Trenches In WWI
Uses Of Trenches In WWI Although some people might say that world war 1 was won only by man
power it was real won with the great use of trenches. The front line trench covered soldiers from
enemy fire. The support trench provided a security for the front line trench. Reserve trench supported
the trench with artillery fire, and other utilities.
The trenches were the main place that the war took place. The trenches provided cover and shelter for
the soldiers. According to the British Library the soldiers maintained a specific schedule with simple
rotations containing rest, work, and war itself. The frontline troops themselves were rotated to ensure
that time spent facing the enemy was balanced by periods of rest and, occasionally, home leave.
(British library) This rotation kept the soldiers spirits up allowing them to rest, then get up and keep
fighting. The determination of soldiers to keep fighting could be strongly influenced by the regularity
of this rotation. (British library) The sanitation of soldiers was very bad this caused many soldiers to
be depressed and have a low morale. They had to crawl around in mud, see their friends die, and shair

These trenches contained bunkers and other facilities for supporting the front line trench. The support
trench could also be used as a frontline trench in case the frontline trench is over run by the enemy
troops. This trench was placed behind the frontline trench just in case the front line trench was taken
over (Trenches During WWI). According to Trenches During WWI these trenches were very different
from the frontline trenches, unlike the frontline trench instead of being built in zig zags, it was built in
a straight line. Spartacus educational claims that the front line trench and the support trench were

New Heritage Doll Company Capital Budgeting Analysis The New Heritage Doll Company is a
company that makes dolls for children between the ages 3 12 years. The company has revenues of 245

Retailing division, the Licensing division and the Production division. The head of the production
division has to choose between two capital intensive projects that have been presented to her the Make

by the division head before she chooses a project for final ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In deciding which product to approve, the production head could use historical data pertaining to
customer buying habits to see if their buying habits change when a new product line is launched.
Therefore, choosing MMDCE from a strategic stand point seems to be a better option. Issue 3: NPV
Analysis Since DYOD is a brand new product line for the company, the inherent risks involved in its
successful launch are higher than MMDCE, since it is merely an extension of an existing line of
products. Therefore, in order to do an NPV analysis, the division head could use a discount rate of
8.4% for the MMDCE and 9% for the DYOD product lines respectively. An NPV analysis suggests
that investment in the MMDCE product line is a more profitable proposition compared to the DYOD
product line since the NPV of the DYOD product line is negative ( 2,434,000). Since we reject
projects with negative NPVs, MMDCE seems to be an obvious choice. The following table below
shows the analysis for NPV: For MMDCE EBIT EBIT*(1 t) Dep Capex A/R Inventory A/P WC FCFF

Henry Ford Biography Essay
Before 1907 when Henry Ford installed the first assembly line, the early 20th century provided
automobiles for mostly the rich as a showing of keeping up with the Jonseses. The car models were
mostly complicated machines which mostly required a chauffeur knowledgeable on how to operate the
complex automobile. The invention helped reduce a four men work to a one men power. It first took
around more than 12 hours to build one car to 2 hours and about 30 minutes. Henry Ford said that by
the aid of scientific study one man is now able to do somewhat more than four did only a
comparatively few years ago. That line established the efficiency of the method and we now use it
everywhere. The assembling of the motor, formerly done by one man, is now ... Show more content on

Around 1901 it showed that he had been a supervisor and stockholder for the automobile companies.
In 1902 Henry Ford started the Ford Motor Company with an $28,000 investment. He also smart
planned his success. He didn t really trust the banks that kept his investors at an odd. His early plans
were to offer the bankers who wanted to invest in his company that would offer dealer franchises. This
required the franchise dealers to pay for the automobiles when they were received instead of when
they were sold. This helped him have additional capital to expand his manufacturing enterprise, invest
in research and provide for his dream. Henry Ford stated that I would build a car for the great
multitude. It will be large enough for the family, but small enough for the individual to run and care
for. It will be constructed of the best materials, by the best men to be hired, after the simplest designs
that modern engineering can devise. But it will be low in price that no man making a good salary will
be unable to own one and enjoy with his family the blessing of hours of pleasure in God s great open

built nine models before the Model T came forward, a significant

Ipod Persuasive Essay
In today s world, in general, life moves faster. Daily routines would not feel complete without
technology. Often it is believed that technology becomes worthless when one does not know how to
use it. Without the internet or television millions of people would go without the news and events
happening at the waking moment. Along with the advances in technology comes a great dilemma to be
explored of when an overload of technology has been reached and may result in destruction of
mankind. Technology includes most products that are manufacturer in factories every day. Take iPods

Abstract
The generation effect refers to the experimental findings that when the subject is asked to generate
all/part of the stimulus the item is always remembered better than the stimulus that the subject only
read (Slamecka Graf). That is the information that the subject generates/creates by oneself is
remembered better compared to the information they only read. Results show that in all the cases, the
performance in generation condition was superior to that in read condition. Using a repeated measures
design, subjects were exposed to 2 levels (conditions, namely, read condition and generate condition).
After each condition, they were engaged in a simple recall task, remembering as many words as they
could. This phenomenon is applied even across variations in encoding rules, timed or self placed
presentation and along with between and within subjects design. A number of potential explanatory
principles are considered and their difficulties are enumerated in the following report. To conclude,
generation effect is a robust finding.
Keywords: Generate Condition. Recall, Memory, Paired associate.
Introduction
The given report is an empirically based report. Generation effect is a phenomenon where information
is better remembered if it is generated from one s own mind than it is simply read. This includes

The Yellow Rose Of Texas
Texas is well known for its history throughout time. Following the history of Texas, there are many
different myths and legends. From the First Texans to the Legend of Houston, the oil industry all the
way to the myth of the Cowboy Culture. I m going to talk about just ten of these myths and legends
that I find interesting. The Yellow Rose of Texas is about a young slave woman by the name of Emily
West Morgan in the antebellum era in Texas. The myth has it that Emily was the reason that Santa
Anna lost the Battle of Jacinto, by distracting him during Houston s surprise attack. According to the
legend, Santa Anna was attracted to Emily and she uses this to help distract Santa Anna from his
military duties. Thus allowing Houston to achieve his surprise attack. This is in the reading because
there is a lot of talk whether the Yellow Rose was indeed apart of Houston s victory at the Battle of
Jacinto. The Legend of Sam Houston and his true intentions for Texas. This Legend is about Sam
Houston and his arrival in Texas in December 1832. It is said that when he arrived in Mexico, he
carried with him an American passport to identify him as an official of the United States. It seems
unlikely that he went to talk with the Comanche Indians since he has never met with them before.
Instead it is believed that Houston was sent to Mexico by President Andrew Jackson as a plan to annex
this region to the United States. Given the fact that within three months of his arrival to Texas he

Communication And Verbal And Non Verbal Communication Essay
Communication, as described in businessdictinary.com, is a two way process in reaching mutual
understanding, in which participants not only exchange information, news, ideas and feelings but also
create and share meaning. It is a means of connection between people or places. Without
communication there would be no understanding between people and important information and
messages would not be correctly conveyed. This is why communication plays an important role in our
daily lives and when not done or when done incorrectly it may cause many undesired issues. There are
two forms of communication: non verbal communication and verbal communication.
Verbal and non verbal communication:
Verbal communication is the use of language and sounds to convey a message clearly. There are two
types of verbal communication: written and oral. Written communication is the use of pens and paper,
emails, texting and any other form of contact using language and not speech. Oral communication is
the use of speech either face to face or via the phone or any form of communication where spoken
words are being used to convey a message. Non verbal communication is the process of conveying a
message without the use of speech or sound. There are nine features of non verbal communication, I
will speak about three: eye contact, facial expressions and posture. Eye contact, also referred to as
gaze, plays a role in showing the speaker that you re listening and that you re willing to interact with
them.

Why Do Biological Weapons Are More Likely To Use By...
I agree that biological weapons are more likely to be attained, created, and deployed by terrorist than a
nuclear weapon. The government does need to more aggressively to reduce proliferation of weapon
availability or mitigate the damage caused by one, whichever is more practical and effective. Several
factors make biological weapons more likely for use by terrorist than nuclear arms. Availability of
weapon components One researcher determined that a hand full of biologists and $10,000 could be
used to produce biological weapon agents. This stands in starch opposition to the amount of funding,
expertise, and obstacles that terrorist would need to overcome to develop their own nuclear programs
(Levi, 2007, p.1). Some states have attempted to create their own nuclear weapons; this takes years
and hundreds of millions of dollars to accomplish. The materials needed are hard to acquire and
special equipment is needed to make the process work. Biological agents on the other hand are, as
demonstrated by the researchers assessment, are cheap and relatively easy. Deployment success

Biological weapons cannot, without explosive components, destroy structures. Nuclear weapons can
level entire parts of a city. Nuclear weapons however cannot target specific groups of people within
the impact zone whereas biological agents can be deployed in an enclosed space, reducing the number
of deaths but targeting only a specific group. This may be important when considering the terrorists
constituents. Do they want targeted attacks against only government or military personnel? Would
they rather see a high death toll? Terrorist organizations are not typically simply causing death, they
are advancing a political or religious ideal that may have limitations that shy away from

After having two terms with President Obama, you would think that we would have more qualified
candidates this year. The most qualified candidate in my opinion is US Senator; Bernie Sanders. He is
not only qualified to be the president with years of experience in working in the government, but he
has some great view points. Viewpoints that benefit the people and not only the one percent.
Today, we live in the richest country in the history of the world, but that means little because much of

Social Networking in Business
Abstract Businesses today are growing more aware of trends in social and business networking to
assist them in growing, developing products, services and the advertising to draw consumers to them
in ever increasing numbers. Social Networking in Business Many businesses are using social
networking to see what consumers are saying about products and what will likely be purchased by
people. Companies such as Pizza Hut, Papa John s and Sears are using networking sites. Someone can

Many of the entrepreneurs on the sites help each other find tools for advertising, marketing lists and
items to help the business succeed. Even at times there is emotional support when a business owner is
having problems in their personal life. Others connected with Elygantthings.com try to help each other
cope. Support is very important when just starting a business and even if someone has been in
business a long time. Sometimes having discussions between other business owners helps in getting
past a difficult time whether related to business or personal difficulties. Social networking is important
to me for my future business because it will help in establishing a concrete presence for my company.
Starting and maintaining a professional blog on Twitter or other places such as that will help to get the
company name out there for people to see. Potential customers will understand what my business
encompasses; also types of services or products readily available to them before and after a purchase.
It would help me when dealing with shippers and suppliers in running my business efficiently. In the
scheme of things, I want to let people know what I believe in and how the company will work with
them on any interactions with them. References Brynko, Barbara. (2009/05), Filtrbox: Tracking Real

Can the Subaltern Speak
Gayatri Chakravorty Spivak Can the Subaltern Speak? An understanding of contemporary relations of
power, and of the Western intellectual s role within them, requires an examination of the intersection
of a theory of representation and the political economy of global capitalism. A theory of representation
points, on the one hand, to the domain of ideology, meaning, and subjectivity, and, on the other hand,
to the domain of politics, the state, and the law. The original title of this paper was Power, Desire,

Why should such occlusions be sanctioned in precisely those intellectuals who are our best prophets of

at any point of its application. This site is apparently based on a simple valorization of any desire
destructive of any power. Walter Benjamin comments on Baudelaire s comparable politics by way of

Dog training is probably the most important topic to every dog owner. Even if it s not, it probably
should be. Who did this on the rug , who destroyed my brand new leather slipper , and what happened
to the cookies that were cooling on the counter are also important topics for dog owners. These topics,
however, are less important simply because they are so easily answered.
Every dog is trained to some degree whether you realize it or not. The reason your dog is trained can
best be explained by the work of the Russian scientist Ivan Pavlov. I know what you are thinking. You
are thinking, isn t he the goalie for the New York Rangers? Wrong again, gentle reader. Pavlov was a
scientist who worked in the late 19th and early 20th centuries, and is probably most famous for his
experiment with a dog.
To distill his work to it s essence, Pavlov fed a dog whilst he rang a bell. He noted that over time if he

Essay about Film Noir and Billy Wilder’s Sunset Boulevard
Film Noir, a term coined by the French to describe a style of film characterized by dark themes,
storylines, and visuals, has been influencing cinematic industries since the 1940 s. With roots in
German expressionistic films and Italian postwar documentaries, film noir has made its way into
American film as well, particularly identified in mob and crime pictures. However, such settings are
not exclusive to American film noir. One noteworthy example is Billy Wilder s film Sunset Boulevard,
which follows the foreboding tale of Joe Gillis, the desperate for success protagonist, who finds
himself in the fatal grips of the disillusioned femme fatale Norma Desmond. Not only does the
storyline s heavy subject matter and typical character ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Again, the audience is not presented with a perfect copy of such a personality in the character of
Norma Desmond; her appeal is arguable, considering her hefty age of fifty, and her deception is not
exclusive to her victim, but has cast a much heavier net upon herself. However, Norma is still
manipulative in the sense that she uses the appeal of her wealth to keep Joe under her control. In this
way, she strips him of his pride and manhood by taking him on as her dependent, and eventually into
her boy toy (for lack of a better term) by inducing his guilt with her suicidal threats. Whether or not
she deserves the audience s pity is no matter Norma fits her role as the femme fatale since she uses Joe
entirely for her own purposes, and eventually brings him to his very literal demise. As the audience
knows well already since the very first scene, Sunset Boulevard does not have what one would call a
happy ending. In this sense, the movie gives itself away as film noir considering the fact that all such
works of cinema which fall in this style category are known to have dark themes predominantly
sending a message of hopelessness and meaningless existence. With Joe s lifeless body floating
around in a swimming pool in mind throughout the entire movie, audiences of this motion picture are
filled with a sense of pointlessness for Joe s life, since his personal resolutions and growth as a

The Role Of Research On The Field Of Education
Abstract
The purpose of this paper is to identify the role that research has in the field of education and to clarify
how research is used by education stakeholders. This paper refers to ten articles in order to provide
rationale for the thesis that education is influenced at all hierarchical levels by research, although it is
used differently by each level based on the desired outcome and the requirements of each level s
particular stakeholders. Two categories of research are explored in this paper: traditional and action
research. Traditional research is generally assumed to be conducted by a researcher who controls all
aspects of the research study, from the formation of a research question to the presentation of findings.

If all parties work in symbiosis with the shared goal of creating and supporting a system that grants
students the highest quality of education possible, then certainly research plays an integral part in that.
The Role of Research in Education Before exploring the role of research in education, however, the
nature and objective of education must be defined. Education is not so much an institution working in
a vacuum as it is a complex machine made up of a huge number of parts, all of which work in concert
toward achieving a common purpose: graduating students into the world who are equipped to
participate as productive members of society. Within the framework of education there exists a
multitude of stakeholders who are influenced by their own agendas and expectations and who have
their own part to play in the success or failure of the education system. Given all that to be true,
research is a diagnostic tool that can be used by stakeholders to identify and remedy shortcomings
within the educational system and also to seek out ways of improving and refining existing processes.
Literature Review
Research and the Educational Hierarchy Rinaldo (2005) describes the role of research in this way:
Research provides us with a variety of perspectives from which to see things and find a way of
empirically analyzing our findings. It enables us to see from where we have come, provides us with a
description of where we are now and gives us some

The Big Short Movie Essay
The Big Short is a movie that discusses the housing market crash in 2008. As you may know, the
banks, the mortgage brokers, and the consumers were all affected by this collapse. On each level of
the system, there were things that went wrong and that could have been changed that could have
prevented the failure of the housing market. Before the 1970s the banking was not a business that you
went into to make money. That was until Louis Ranieri came around. Louis Ranieri had one idea that
changed the housing market forever. His plan was to have a mortgage back security. A mortgage back
security is an assist based security backed by a mortgage. For example, if you use your mortgage to
start a business, your business is backed by that mortgage. The average mortgage loan has a fixed rate
loan and takes thirty years to pay off, but then he thought to bundle them all together. They thought
these would still be less risky because who would not pay their mortgage. They were doing hundreds
of million dollars in mortgage bonds a year, but that all changed when they ran out of mortgages to put
into the bonds. If there were no bonds then there was nothing left to make money, and the banking
world was going to back to the way it was. Rather than letting that happen, the banks made a loan
called a subprime loan.
Subprime loans were not like the fixed rate loans at all. Subprime loans have interest rates that raise
quickly, where fixed rate loans stay the same. In the movie, when

1. Discuss Risk Process and Practices. Why do professionals mandate Risk Management? a) Discuss
Risk Process and Practices.
Project Managers must determine the success criteria for managing a project to identify risks that
could possibly impede customer requirements. Risk Management is a disciplined, systematic process
to obtain the maximum benefits associated with such a management channel. Every project needs
some type of documentation related to risk management activity. This type of management may take

The following six (6) major steps will increase the chances of a successful technique application: 1)
Identify experts and ensure their participation 2) Create the Delphi instrument 3) Have the experts
respond on the instrument 4) Review and restate the responses 5) Gather the experts opinions and
repeat 6) Distribute and apply the data The Delphi technique is a time consuming process, but this
technique is promising in extracting information from experts who might not otherwise contribute to a
project s body of knowledge.
3. Explain the Crawford Slip Method (CSM). The Crawford Slip Method (CSM) is a classic tool used
to combat the negativism inherent in team members while attempting to identify risk and risk
information gathering for a particular product or process. CSM offers a variety of advantages over
other information gathering techniques, in particular, the ability to aggregate large volumes of
information in a very short time period and the complete avoidance of groupthink. CSM is not the
hardest risk management technique to apply when properly facilitated. A clearly established question
is defined by the facilitator and provided to all qualified participants. The participants then document
their response to the clearly established question on a slip of paper. Providing the same clearly

The Workingmen s Party Of California Summary
The Workingmen s Party of California and How It Compares To Ideals of Today The Workingmen s
Party of California was an American labor organization led by Denis Kearney. Created in 1877, the
Party s goal was to unite all poor and working men into one political party. The Workingmen s Party
had some interesting goals, however, some ideas were a bit too radical. Although this Association is
over a century old, the mindset of it is still around today. Certain ideals of the Workingmen s party can
be found in two distinct people, Bernie Sanders and Donald Trump. It might seem wild comparing
these two together, but when it comes to the Workingmen s Party they have a bit in common.
Democratic socialist Bernie Sanders shares many of the same views as the Workingmen s Party.
Firstly, Bernie s mission was taking the power from the rich and placing it into the hands of the people
where it belongs. Sanders and the Party also both wanted to destroy land monopoly by creating laws,
and to destroy the power of the rich by a system of taxation. A Robin Hood Tax System, which wants

Notorious Jumping Frog
1. The educational aspect portrayed in this text The Notorious Jumping Frog , was made very clear.
Mark Twain brilliantly allowed the readers to see a difference between Easterners and Westerners
through educated and uneducated diction. The narrator s tone and choice of words used at the
beginning of the text, revealed to me that he has academia background. The narrator stated, I called on
good natured, garrulous old Simon Wheeler... (Twain 121). When using the word garrulous, when in
terms simply means chatty, right away this led me to think the narrator s vocabulary was extensive.
The narrator also carried a certain persona about himself, a persona of patience and self control, being
that he sat and listened to the very chatty Simon Wheeler s without interrupting. ... Show more content

Unlike the narrator, Simon Wheeler s dialect and description of Jim Smiley was not so much formal.
He used westernized slang words such as feller and thish er when telling the story of Jimmy Smiley to
the narrator (Twain 123). Although not specifically stated, Smiley seemed to have come from a
background where survival by any means possible was the motto for life. Any means possible,
meaning doing bizarre things that to another would seem classless. Mark Twain depicted Smiley as a
man simply trying to make best out of life. It was perceived that formal education was not prevalent in
his surroundings and street hustling was the way of life, perhaps passed on from previous generations.
Overall, Twain was able to show the readers a distinct difference between Easternized and

Dilemma Of Informed Consent
Currently, there are nearly as many human biological samples stored in the United States as there are
people in the United States, and many of the sources of the samples remain unknown because
informed consent was not previously required. The main dilemma between informed consent and
scientists lies within the ethics and practicality of research on tissue removed from a patient s body for
surgical purposes. Meanwhile, the tissues are studied in labs across the country. In recent years, the
HeLa cell line and the cells backstory have precipitated outrage towards how the tissue was obtained,
managed, and the inadequacy of informed consent from Henrietta Lacks and her family. Since then,
other cases have become public regarding the lack ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The medical definition of informed consent is The process by which a patient learns about and
understands the purpose, benefits, and potential risks of a medical or surgical intervention, including
clinical trials, and agrees to receive the treatment or participate in the trial. Informed consent generally
requires the patient or responsible party to sign a statement confirming that they understand the risks
and benefits of the procedure or treatment (Medical Definition of Informed consent). The definition
goes over medical and surgical procedures when the tissue is still part of the patient; however, tissue
removed from the patient during an operation, is not mentioned. Consequently, a gray area emerges
and scientists scramble to decipher between what is ethical and what is practical. The ethical side
corresponds to the patient s right to their body, including his or her tissue. Although, again, there are
not any laws protecting a human s right to their tissues removed from the body. The practical side
relates to the cost of future research and patient confidentially in terms of linking unidentified tissue
samples to the original patient. The practicality of voiding using consent forms, in terms of tissue,
eliminates the confusion within the scientific community, reduces additional cost burdens and
decreases potential privacy breaches to the original patient. Scientists, including David Korn,

Militarism In Ww1
War World War I (WWI). Words that bring back some horrid memories of an unpleasant time. The

Alliances such as the Triple Entente, including France, Russia, and Great Britain. Also the Triple

Italy, Russia and Turkey. The Great War, caused by many events such as imperialism and alliances,

Militarism was the belief or desire of a government or the people should maintain a strong military
and ready to use it when needed and aggressively to defend or promote national interests. Building up
your army can be a major set of to other countries, making them feel as if they are about to get
attacked. Also other countries would want to have more power than the others so they would have a
competition that could lead to war. For example, evidence shows in a chart by Richard Overy, in 1999,
all the countries were building up their armies and navy and spending lots of money on them. This can
cause war because if the other countries saw that another country has a good military they wouldn t
want to be unprepared and they start building up their army and then all hell breaks loose. Another
example written in, The Hammer or the Anvil , by Bernhard von Bulow; he writes, There is no welfare
for us without power, without a strong army and a strong fleet. (Bulow 1). This shows to readers that
they were readying themselves for some kind of war. This shows to readers that militarism is
obviously the underlying cause for WWI, because without a military there would be no

Examples Of Tension In 12 Angry Men
The small setting of the room, few props and the heat, along with camera levels, builds tension and
releases it throughout 12 Angry Men. Towards the beginning tension is put in to play as the setting of
film is in a small, un airconditioned room on a hot summer day. Throughout the film the jurors
comment on the weather which effects certain juror s moods. Juror number 7 says This is the hottest
day of the year. You d think they d at least air condition the place. The heat irritates and agitates most
of the jurors, resulting in clashes of moods, further adding to the tension. Throughout the film the
camera level goes from above eye level to eye level, increasing the tension by showcasing more
reactions and emotions during intense scenes.
The mise en scène when we first see the jury room creates a perfect setting for tension to build. In the
room, we see very few props, which helps make the room seem small. The room has a table with 12
chairs, ashtrays on the table, a fan on the wall, 2 overhead key lights, a few books, papers and another
small table. The jurors also can t leave until they either all decide to send an 18 year old to the electric
chair, or free. The men are all wearing jackets, even though the weather is hot and the heat makes
them sweaty and agitated. Many of the men are smoking, which might show they are agitated or
anxious. Early on in this room, tension starts to rise as juror number eight is the only one who votes
not guilty. This all happens in the

The Law of Superposition is the law that states that in layers undisturbed rock, the older rocks will be
closer to the bottom and the younger rocks will be near the top. This is a helpful method used by
scientists to organize earth s history. Our Law of Superposition Worksheet showed how there were
different layers and each was a different age. We figured out that the oldest went on the bottom and the
youngest went on the top. This paper helped us to figure out how scientists would use this to help

Scientists can uses fossil records to look at the amount of fossils in the population, which can also help

Group B fossils related to the Group B fossils from the chart above that are 40 million years old,
though the archaeologist did not mention the amount of fossils. With this little bit of information and
information from the graph above, I presume that this organism may have fought for the same
resources as Group A and Group C. As the amount of fossils of Group B decreases, the amount of
fossils of Group A and Group C increased. These two groups must have stopped Group B from
becoming successful. The other possibility could have been that something changed in the
environment at around 12 million years ago that was terminal to Group B. As group B died other
groups rose in population. This is not hard to agree with because this organism has now been recorded
to have lived for at least 30 million years, while most species live up to only 10 million years,
according our Geologic Time Scale Model Worksheet that we did in class. I can also assume that
Group B was large at around 20 30 million years old, because Groups A had a small population at that
time. The large population of Group B must have hindered Group A s ability to thrive. Another

The hero was a major influence in Greek society. As well as being a revered religious figure for Greek
society, the traits and characteristics embodied by the hero became part of the perfect form for Greek
men. Furthermore, the military courage and prowess displayed by heroes such as Achilles and Jason
become major influences in soldiers to be honourable, brave and noble. Different heroes had a
different influence and significance to the polis, ranging from aspects such as religious tradition to
having an impact on the politics of the time.
There were several ways for a member of Greek society to be classified as a hero. Many of the heroes

Jason, along with his Argonauts, worked to retrieve the Golden Fleece in order to win back the throne
of Thessaly from Pelias. Jason, like Theseus, demonstrates how important it was for Greek heroes to
fight for their polis. Embarking on the quest to save Thessaly from his power hungry uncle Pelias
shows how much he cared for his polis and how much he was willing to sacrifice in order for the
citizens to have a better life. Jason also had his boat, the Argo, preserved by the citizens of Thessaly as
a precious possession of the man who fought for their freedom. Despite this, both the story of Jason
and the story of Theseus end with the hero dying a tragic death, outcast by the polis that they were
willing to sacrifice so much for. The downfall of these once great heroes shows that the glory of
winning battles or returning triumphant from quests was not eternal for Greek heroes, and while many
were revered in hero cults, many also died as outcasts, no longer revered by their

Women Of The Elizabethan Society
Women of the Elizabethan society, such as in Shakespeare s Othello, are particularly not considered as
equal. Women were more often seen as less of people who need to be helped and aided by man. This
ideology was spread by both men and women of that time by them playing into the gender roles of
male and female. Othello gives a relative example of the male and female ideology being accepted and
spread throughout society in the Elizabethan age. With it only being three women in the play,
Desdemona, Emilia and Bianca and then the rest of the members being male species, it is difficult to
not come across gender issues. There are many expectations of women as well as roles that they
acquired back in the Elizabethan society. Firstly, women were treated as objects of possession towards
men. For example, when the duke had decided to give permission for Desdemona to escort Othello to
Cyprus. Othello speaks to Iago, coincidentally relating to him as a man of honesty and trust ,
informing the Duke that To his conveyance I assign my wife (I.3.283). Desdemona, being as Othello s
wife, is treated as his possession and it is implied that she is a like a commodity to be guarded and
transported. Later, the first Senator, send farewell wishes to Othello, concludes by hoping that Othello
will use Desdemona well (I.3.288). The word use seems to suggest that women are indeed looked at as
objects which also supports the Venetian expectation of women. That they are to obey the wills of

Selfishness In Macbeth
Macbeth by William Shakespeare is the story of how one mans hubris destroys him. From it, we can
extrapolate and comment on how in society people have a choice. We can live a life of altruism,
valour and nobility or one fuelled by ambition, greed and violence. Macbeths journey from the former
to the later showcases to the audience the dangers of selfishness. It prompts us to question our view of
life do we succumb to the false promises of evil, as tempting as they are, or do we remain defiant and
true to ourselves. Shakespeare s play is a very clear warning against listening to the dark forces that

audience that that Macbeth believes the greatest has already been achieved (i.e. it is his destiny to be

he describes to the audience the thoughts running through his head. He is battling with his innate
goodness if good, why do I yield to that suggestion whose horrible image doth unfix my hair and
make his heart knock at his ribs . His language reveals that he is considering murdering king Duncan,
though he would loathe doing it. However at the end of the aside Macbeth decides not to follow
through with the murder if chance will have me king, why chance may crown me without my stir and
instead leave it to chance as he knows he should be loyal to king Duncan our duties are to your throne

murder and his loyalty to the throne are preventing him. At this point Macbeth is still a good man even
though he is flawed. He is aware of his own ambition but is not allowing to undermine his integrity.
An aside is also used following a meeting between Duncan, Macbeth and Banquo. In this scene

made breathing difficult. The area was beautiful, green hills everywhere; the few houses looked like
they were put into the lush meadows by a creative behemoth. Although you could not see the ocean,

Supercontinental Formation
The Earth goes through supercontinent episodes where a defined amalgamation and consequent rifting
of continents is evident. One hypotheses defines a 250 m.y. periodicity in Phanerozoic sea level,
orogeny, basin formation, climate and magmatic activity. Stages of the supercontinental cycle include
global sea level regression accompanied by increased crustal compression, continental erosion and
climatic deterioration followed by orogeny, granitoid magmatism and glaciation, and finally mafic
magmatism, global transgression and climatic amelioration. Cyclic nature of Phanerozoic sedimentary
rock distribution and material transfer among sedimentary reservoirs were controlled by tectonic
factors. Episodic peaks in collisional orogenesis and rift related mafic dike swarms occur every 500

The Strengths Of Culture In Dubai
ASSIGNMENT:
Question 1: What is your greatest strength culturally speaking? Explain.
I think the strength of Dubai s culture is the fact that even though it is home to a number of
immigrants and has the reputation of being one of the most attractive tourist spots; it has preserved its
culture. The Emirates operate according to the Muslim culture and centres on the family. Even though
it is known as the entertainment capital of Middle East, the local nationals keep themselves from over
indulging in the offered entertainment practices which has helped in preserving the culture in spite of
the large number of non immigrant population. Dubai has become a cosmopolitan city with a
maintained rich culture, tradition and customs. It is a stable and yet progressive society and culture.
Even tough Islam is the major religion of Dubai there is tolerance and respect for other religions of the
migrants which is another strength of the diverse population of Dubai. This culture of absorbing the
different cultures and understanding the differences is the true strength of culture here in Dubai.

A ruling passion can inspire someone to put their thoughts and/or words into action. Quoted on page
76, Tay Soon secured a loan from his bank and put twenty thousand in OHT. This situation
represented putting thoughts into actions to put effort towards achieving one s dream because Tay
wanted to do it for quite some time, and then finally came about doing it. Secondly, a different
repercussion of inspiration would be for one to continue on dreaming even when things get rough.
This was shown when Tay was upset due to failing to buy a share at nine dollars which a few days
later had hit seventeen dollars (located on page 77), but he continued on trying to achieve his dream,
and didn t let that one stock discourage him. Besides this, a ruling passion can influence an individual
s life through inspiring other s to become passionate or take action as well. Delineated after Dr. Soo
bought the Russian Banking shares for four dollars, and turned out to be worth seven the next day, in
which the time came when Tay and Yee became even more passionate towards this and their dream
than they were before. Being a powerful piece reacting from a ruling passion, inspiration can influence
an individual`s life in a considerable

Charity Personal Statement
Many believe that charity is a part of life. However, I believe that charity is a way of life. I struggle to
draw the line between future goals and charitable commitments because they are so similar in my
plans for the future. My mission is to develop healthy, driven, and independent communities.
Through my active pursuit of a career in nursing, I am acquiring the tools necessary to promote
community and public health. Because of my identity in God as a Christian, I am equipped to
encourage spiritual health through Christian love and moral uprightness. Over the last six months, I
have been involved in a church based community development in Rockaway Beach, a town in an
extreme economic slump. Through my experience serving in this community, I have seen firsthand the
multitude of preventable health issues linked to economic and spiritual poverty. I desire to use that
knowledge to assist communities with similar struggles. I will pursue a doctorate of Nurse Practice
after graduation to maximize my service potential to a community with a critical shortage of medical
professionals.
Communities are driven by their greatest strengths. With surplus income, I intend to establish ... Show

Because of generous tax breaks for large corporations, the government effectively suffocates budding
small businesses who cannot compete in a free (for corporations) market economy. I will run for a seat
in the Missouri House of Representatives with hopes of serving on the committee for Economic
Development or Health and Mental Health Policy. If elected I will fight to give Missouri back to
Missourians. I will champion a Missouri free from special interest groups to revive a free market
economy that is for everyone. I will also push for healthcare reform that educates the lower class in
effective, affordable nutrition via food co ops and grants for counties willing to provide free nutrition

Dbr Case
Based on the information in this case analysis, what are the types of threats DBR may be facing?
DBR is facing various kinds of threats like one from its competitors who could try to steal the
intellectual property of DBR and other from the advanced hackers who may be against the offshore oil
drilling projects and could target DBR for their role in those projects.
Corporate Theft Sabotage
Recently DBR released their advanced robotic prototype at an international tradeshow. Industry
experts have termed this prototype as the most advanced robotic system and also suggest that this
prototype is at least 5 years ahead of what DBR s competition has to offer. Because of this reason,
DBR fear that their competitors could try and steal their ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Espionage through advanced persistent threat (APT)
Advanced persistent threat (APT) is most critical information security threat. Competitor companies
could try such attacks with intent of having ongoing access to DBR s research data. In these attacks,
the data is not damaged or deleted, but is stolen without raising any alarms. This is the most advanced
and critical threat because with APT attacks, competitors can have unrestricted access to DBR s
network and data for as long as they desire.
Corporate Theft Sabotage
The threat which DBR is facing from its competitors is another significant threat. Before the launch of
the new prototype robot, DBR s competitors had an upper hand in the market which they lost once the
DBR announced their new prototype. Network attacks from the DBR s competitors could be aimed at
either at stealing the intellectual property so that they can again get in front in the robotics market or
those attacks could be for damaging or corrupting the research data so that DBR is not able to function
as efficiently. Such network attacks are also capable of damaging the company s infrastructure.
Competitor s intent behind these threats is straightforward, they want to get ahead in the market either
by stealing the information from DBR or by hampering DBR s functioning through data and
infrastructure damage.
Sabotage Information extortion
Environment hacktivists may attack the network of DBR with

Definition Essay About Moving To America
The definition of an American is hard to explain. Some believe it is only about being born in North
America, others believe it is about where your ancestors came from. The real definition of an
American is someone who is free. Free to choose any occupation they want to do, free to get a good
education, and free to speak or act for what they believe in.
One of the many reasons immigrants have moved to America is because of the large amount of job
opportunities available to anyone looking for work. Which explains why America is called the land of
opportunity. In America and I by Anzia Yezierska, a story about a woman moving to America to fulfill
her dream of starting the life that she always wanted to live, she says In the golden land of ... Show

Unlike many other countries around the world, America is a place where your voice is not silenced by
anyone. America is well known for the acts of demonstrating what they believe in to better this
country. People like Martin Luther King Jr., Abraham Lincoln, Rosa Parks, or even Nathanial Bacon
have all practiced this freedom. In a speech by Franklin D. Roosevelt he states In the future days,
which we seek to make secure, we look forward to a world founded upon four essential human
freedoms. The first is freedom of speech and expression everywhere in the world. The second is
freedom of every person to worship God in his own way everywhere in the world.... By him repeating
the phrase everywhere in the world he is expressing how important it is for all humans to have these
freedoms, not just Americans.
Though the freedom of speech, and the opportunities for education and jobs do define the freedom of
Americans, it doesn t begin to explain the full definition of an American. An American can be
described as many other things also such as: patriotic, heroic, brave, and diverse. Through any
characteristic you can call an American, freedom is the core of what this nation is made

Compare And Contrast Sherman Alexion And Where Mountain...
Often times the author s message illustrates the reality of a situation in society. In the 1960 s, the raise
in protest against the prejudices of Native tribes lead to a Native American Renaissance in literature.
As a result, the Native American literature depicts the destruction of the roots Native American
culture. Authors, Sherman Alexie and Leslie Marmon, expressed their view on Native American
culture through poetry. The combination of Alexie s Evolution and Marmon s Where Mountain Lion
Lay Down with Deer leads to similarities and differences. According to what they saw, the poems are
presented through the speaker s voice and the author s diction in order to develop the theme in both
Evolution and Where Mountain Lion Lay Down with Deer. Although the two poems express similar
themes, there is a contrasts between the two poems due to the tone of each piece and the literary
elements employed. Due to the fact that both poems were written within twenty years of each other,
each author conveys a similar message. In both poems, there is a sense of deprivation for the Native
American identity. Alexie takes a more blunt approach on expressing this theme: ...when the last
Indian has pawned everything but his heart, Buffalo Bill takes that for twenty bucks... (Lines 11 12).
This informs the reader that Buffalo Bill, a historical reference to a white explorer and hunter, will
take every last item down to a heart. As a result, Native Americans are knowingly giving up their

  • 2. 1984 Is A Dystopia It seems as though every time a society attempts to create a utopia, it has the opposite effect. 1984 is an example of an attempt at a utopian society that results in a place that is definitely not perfect. In most instances, a dystopia will be created when trying to make a utopia (Hough). There are multiple reasons as to why a utopia cannot work. Some of these reasons include resources and people in the society. George Orwell s 1984, along with past governments, show that a utopia can never be truly created and that it will always turn into a dystopia. One reason why a perfect society can never be made is due to the fact that even though it might be set up perfectly, we cannot change the fact that people are imperfect. Any bit of imperfection is all it takes to cause something to turn from perfect to imperfect. One writer said about utopian societies, Even with such optimism, the flawed individual is still inserted into otherwise improved societies (Hough 1). This quote explains how the society in general is improved, but the people are not. Governments have tried to change the way people think to create perfect humans. People are influenced to think exactly how the government wants them to, and teaches them from a young age to love the Party and the government in which they live. Their right to make their own assessment is being taken away. It is true that governments are often successful in brainwashing the majority of the population; however, they can never control ... Culture is defined as the sum of the attitudes, customs and beliefs that distinguish one group of people from another (Dictionary.com). Sheri Inness, author of Lost in Space: Queer Geography and the Politics of Location, argues that our relationship to a place and culture become elements in the construction of our individual and collective identities whether queer or straight (148). In Zami, a biomythography by Audre Lorde, the author describes many occurrences wherein her identity and behaviour was shaped by her geographical location. Both of these works helped to raise my awareness of the cultural effect on the queer community. The cultural standards presented in Zami and Lost in Space and there ... She acts as a mother figure to the members of the Branded and Gennie (121, 88). In Stamford, both Audre and Ginger are working class, black lesbians (140). This puts them on a level playing field, and they regard each other as equals. Lastly, when Audre moves to Mexico City she forms a relationship with Eudora, who acts as a mother figure towards her (172). Now Audre is the one being nurtured and taught by Eudora. This is in contrast to her previous relationships in that all of her other lovers and friends have been close in age to her, but Eudora is considerably older than Audre when they begin their relationship. All of these examples demonstrate that every time Audre moves to a new place she has a dislocation of identity (Inness, 138) and has to re establish her personal identity with every location in regards to the cultural ... The front line trench covered soldiers from enemy fire. The support trench provided a security for the front line trench. Reserve trench supported the trench with artillery fire, and other utilities. The trenches were the main place that the war took place. The trenches provided cover and shelter for the soldiers. According to the British Library the soldiers maintained a specific schedule with simple rotations containing rest, work, and war itself. The frontline troops themselves were rotated to ensure that time spent facing the enemy was balanced by periods of rest and, occasionally, home leave. (British library) This rotation kept the soldiers spirits up allowing them to rest, then get up and keep fighting. The determination of soldiers to keep fighting could be strongly influenced by the regularity of this rotation. In deciding which product to approve, the production head could use historical data pertaining to customer buying habits to see if their buying habits change when a new product line is launched. Therefore, choosing MMDCE from a strategic stand point seems to be a better option. Issue 3: NPV Analysis Since DYOD is a brand new product line for the company, the inherent risks involved in its successful launch are higher than MMDCE, since it is merely an extension of an existing line of products. Therefore, in order to do an NPV analysis, the division head could use a discount rate of 8.4% for the MMDCE and 9% for the DYOD product lines respectively. An NPV analysis suggests that investment in the MMDCE product line is a more profitable proposition compared to the DYOD product line since the NPV of the DYOD product line is negative ( 2,434,000). Since we reject projects with negative NPVs, MMDCE seems to be an obvious choice. Shah Roll Number: 21 MA I University of Mumbai Department of Applied Psychology and Counseling Centre Abstract The generation effect refers to the experimental findings that when the subject is asked to generate all/part of the stimulus the item is always remembered better than the stimulus that the subject only read (Slamecka Graf). That is the information that the subject generates/creates by oneself is remembered better compared to the information they only read. Results show that in all the cases, the performance in generation condition was superior to that in read condition. Using a repeated measures design, subjects were exposed to 2 levels (conditions, namely, read condition and generate condition). After each condition, they were engaged in a simple recall task, remembering as many words as they could. This phenomenon is applied even across variations in encoding rules, timed or self placed presentation and along with between and within subjects design. A number of potential explanatory principles are considered and their difficulties are enumerated in the following report. To conclude, generation effect is a robust finding. From the First Texans to the Legend of Houston, the oil industry all the way to the myth of the Cowboy Culture. I m going to talk about just ten of these myths and legends that I find interesting. The Yellow Rose of Texas is about a young slave woman by the name of Emily West Morgan in the antebellum era in Texas. The myth has it that Emily was the reason that Santa Anna lost the Battle of Jacinto, by distracting him during Houston s surprise attack. It is a means of connection between people or places. Without communication there would be no understanding between people and important information and messages would not be correctly conveyed. This is why communication plays an important role in our daily lives and when not done or when done incorrectly it may cause many undesired issues. There are two forms of communication: non verbal communication and verbal communication. Verbal and non verbal communication: Verbal communication is the use of language and sounds to convey a message clearly. There are two types of verbal communication: written and oral. Written communication is the use of pens and paper, emails, texting and any other form of contact using language and not speech. Oral communication is the use of speech either face to face or via the phone or any form of communication where spoken words are being used to convey a message. Non verbal communication is the process of conveying a message without the use of speech or sound. The government does need to more aggressively to reduce proliferation of weapon availability or mitigate the damage caused by one, whichever is more practical and effective. Several factors make biological weapons more likely for use by terrorist than nuclear arms. Availability of weapon components One researcher determined that a hand full of biologists and $10,000 could be used to produce biological weapon agents. This stands in starch opposition to the amount of funding, expertise, and obstacles that terrorist would need to overcome to develop their own nuclear programs (Levi, 2007, p.1). Some states have attempted to create their own nuclear weapons; this takes years and hundreds of millions of dollars to accomplish. Essay about Film Noir and Billy Wilder’s Sunset Boulevard Film Noir, a term coined by the French to describe a style of film characterized by dark themes, storylines, and visuals, has been influencing cinematic industries since the 1940 s. With roots in German expressionistic films and Italian postwar documentaries, film noir has made its way into American film as well, particularly identified in mob and crime pictures. However, such settings are not exclusive to American film noir. One noteworthy example is Billy Wilder s film Sunset Boulevard, which follows the foreboding tale of Joe Gillis, the desperate for success protagonist, who finds himself in the fatal grips of the disillusioned femme fatale Norma Desmond. Again, the audience is not presented with a perfect copy of such a personality in the character of Norma Desmond; her appeal is arguable, considering her hefty age of fifty, and her deception is not exclusive to her victim, but has cast a much heavier net upon herself. However, Norma is still manipulative in the sense that she uses the appeal of her wealth to keep Joe under her control. In this way, she strips him of his pride and manhood by taking him on as her dependent, and eventually into her boy toy (for lack of a better term) by inducing his guilt with her suicidal threats. Whether or not she deserves the audience s pity is no matter Norma fits her role as the femme fatale since she uses Joe entirely for her own purposes, and eventually brings him to his very literal demise. As the audience knows well already since the very first scene, Sunset Boulevard does not have what one would call a happy ending. In this sense, the movie gives itself away as film noir considering the fact that all such works of cinema which fall in this style category are known to have dark themes predominantly sending a message of hopelessness and meaningless existence. If all parties work in symbiosis with the shared goal of creating and supporting a system that grants students the highest quality of education possible, then certainly research plays an integral part in that. The Role of Research in Education Before exploring the role of research in education, however, the nature and objective of education must be defined. Education is not so much an institution working in a vacuum as it is a complex machine made up of a huge number of parts, all of which work in concert toward achieving a common purpose: graduating students into the world who are equipped to participate as productive members of society. Within the framework of education there exists a multitude of stakeholders who are influenced by their own agendas and expectations and who have their own part to play in the success or failure of the education system. As you may know, the banks, the mortgage brokers, and the consumers were all affected by this collapse. On each level of the system, there were things that went wrong and that could have been changed that could have prevented the failure of the housing market. Before the 1970s the banking was not a business that you went into to make money. That was until Louis Ranieri came around. Louis Ranieri had one idea that changed the housing market forever. His plan was to have a mortgage back security. A mortgage back security is an assist based security backed by a mortgage. For example, if you use your mortgage to start a business, your business is backed by that mortgage. The average mortgage loan has a fixed rate loan and takes thirty years to pay off, but then he thought to bundle them all together. They thought these would still be less risky because who would not pay their mortgage. They were doing hundreds of million dollars in mortgage bonds a year, but that all changed when they ran out of mortgages to put into the bonds. If there were no bonds then there was nothing left to make money, and the banking world was going to back to the way it was. Rather than letting that happen, the banks made a loan called a subprime loan. Subprime loans were not like the fixed rate loans at all. Subprime loans have interest rates that raise quickly, where fixed rate loans stay the same. In the movie, when ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The Workingmen s Party Of California Summary The Workingmen s Party of California and How It Compares To Ideals of Today The Workingmen s Party of California was an American labor organization led by Denis Kearney. Created in 1877, the Party s goal was to unite all poor and working men into one political party. The Workingmen s Party had some interesting goals, however, some ideas were a bit too radical. Although this Association is over a century old, the mindset of it is still around today. Certain ideals of the Workingmen s party can be found in two distinct people, Bernie Sanders and Donald Trump. It might seem wild comparing these two together, but when it comes to the Workingmen s Party they have a bit in common. Democratic socialist Bernie Sanders shares many of the same views as the Workingmen s Party. Firstly, Bernie s mission was taking the power from the rich and placing it into the hands of the people where it belongs. Sanders and the Party also both wanted to destroy land monopoly by creating laws, and to destroy the power of the rich by a system of taxation. Dilemma Of Informed Consent Currently, there are nearly as many human biological samples stored in the United States as there are people in the United States, and many of the sources of the samples remain unknown because informed consent was not previously required. The main dilemma between informed consent and scientists lies within the ethics and practicality of research on tissue removed from a patient s body for surgical purposes. Meanwhile, the tissues are studied in labs across the country. In recent years, the HeLa cell line and the cells backstory have precipitated outrage towards how the tissue was obtained, managed, and the inadequacy of informed consent from Henrietta Lacks and her family. The medical definition of informed consent is The process by which a patient learns about and understands the purpose, benefits, and potential risks of a medical or surgical intervention, including clinical trials, and agrees to receive the treatment or participate in the trial. Informed consent generally requires the patient or responsible party to sign a statement confirming that they understand the risks and benefits of the procedure or treatment (Medical Definition of Informed consent). The definition goes over medical and surgical procedures when the tissue is still part of the patient; however, tissue removed from the patient during an operation, is not mentioned. Consequently, a gray area emerges and scientists scramble to decipher between what is ethical and what is practical. The ethical side corresponds to the patient s right to their body, including his or her tissue. Although, again, there are not any laws protecting a human s right to their tissues removed from the body. The practical side relates to the cost of future research and patient confidentially in terms of linking unidentified tissue samples to the original patient. The practicality of voiding using consent forms, in terms of tissue, eliminates the confusion within the scientific community, reduces additional cost burdens and decreases potential privacy breaches to the original patient. Militarism was the belief or desire of a government or the people should maintain a strong military and ready to use it when needed and aggressively to defend or promote national interests. Building up your army can be a major set of to other countries, making them feel as if they are about to get attacked. Also other countries would want to have more power than the others so they would have a competition that could lead to war. For example, evidence shows in a chart by Richard Overy, in 1999, all the countries were building up their armies and navy and spending lots of money on them. This can cause war because if the other countries saw that another country has a good military they wouldn t want to be unprepared and they start building up their army and then all hell breaks loose. Another example written in, The Hammer or the Anvil , by Bernhard von Bulow; he writes, There is no welfare for us without power, without a strong army and a strong fleet. (Bulow 1). With this little bit of information and information from the graph above, I presume that this organism may have fought for the same resources as Group A and Group C. As the amount of fossils of Group B decreases, the amount of fossils of Group A and Group C increased. These two groups must have stopped Group B from becoming successful. The other possibility could have been that something changed in the environment at around 12 million years ago that was terminal to Group B. As group B died other groups rose in population. Women were more often seen as less of people who need to be helped and aided by man. This ideology was spread by both men and women of that time by them playing into the gender roles of male and female. Othello gives a relative example of the male and female ideology being accepted and spread throughout society in the Elizabethan age. With it only being three women in the play, Desdemona, Emilia and Bianca and then the rest of the members being male species, it is difficult to not come across gender issues. There are many expectations of women as well as roles that they acquired back in the Elizabethan society. Firstly, women were treated as objects of possession towards men. For example, when the duke had decided to give permission for Desdemona to escort Othello to Cyprus. Othello speaks to Iago, coincidentally relating to him as a man of honesty and trust , informing the Duke that To his conveyance I assign my wife (I.3.283). Desdemona, being as Othello s wife, is treated as his possession and it is implied that she is a like a commodity to be guarded and transported. Later, the first Senator, send farewell wishes to Othello, concludes by hoping that Othello will use Desdemona well (I.3.288). As a result, the Native American literature depicts the destruction of the roots Native American culture. Authors, Sherman Alexie and Leslie Marmon, expressed their view on Native American culture through poetry. The combination of Alexie s Evolution and Marmon s Where Mountain Lion Lay Down with Deer leads to similarities and differences. According to what they saw, the poems are presented through the speaker s voice and the author s diction in order to develop the theme in both Evolution and Where Mountain Lion Lay Down with Deer. Although the two poems express similar themes, there is a contrasts between the two poems due to the tone of each piece and the literary elements employed. Alexie takes a more blunt approach on expressing this theme: ...when the last Indian has pawned everything but his heart, Buffalo Bill takes that for twenty bucks... (Lines 11 12). This informs the reader that Buffalo Bill, a historical reference to a white explorer and hunter, will take every last item down to a heart. As a result, Native Americans are knowingly giving up their ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
