The Causes Of The Japanese Internment Of WWII
The Japanese internment of WWII was one of the biggest cases of racial prejudice America has
ever committed. During a time when Italian and German Americans were a much bigger threat to
our nation s security, we deliberately alienated Japanese citizens in our society. Not only did we
restrict the freedoms of American born citizens for three years, but we have also caused long term,
irreparable damage to the Japanese people, and their society. While internment may have decreased
the odds of Japanese spies in our military and mob violence it is no excuse for the atrocity we put
our own citizens through. American citizens, who are granted the right to life, liberty, and the
pursuit of happyness, were robbed of these very rights our country was founded on. Internment
camps were often in the middle of nowhere, and in very disatifactory condition for all residing in
them. After internment many people, since they could not pay their mortgage loans, lost their
homes and life savings causing widespread poverty. These and many other factors are why
internment during WWII was unjust and motivated by racial prejudice, not national security. While
Japanese internment may have isolated a small amount of Japanese spies, it was unjustified
considering that the majority of people interned where innocent. According to government officials
at the time, Japanese American citizens posed no threat to the West coast. Curtis B Munson said in
the Muson Report that, There is no Japanese problem

Feminist Feminism
The women that march around burning bras, hating men, and denying to shave their body hair.
A perfect definition for a feminist, right? Wrong. If you do not agree with feminism, it could
possibly be because everything you know about it is wrong. According to a poll conducted by
PerryUndem in 2015, a research and communications firm, 85 percent of Americans believe in
equality for women. Yet, only 18 percent of respondents identified as a feminist. Evidently, it is a
belief that is wildly misunderstood and learning more about it could change one s perception of
the world completely. The basic assumption shared by all feminists is that women suffer certain
injustices on account of their sex. Feminists stress the importance of gender divisions in society
and it simply portrays these divisions as working to the overall advantage of men. Although
feminists are united with their common desire for sexual justice and their concern for women s
welfare, there is a range spectrum of feminist views that many are uneducated on. Many do not
know that anyone can be a feminist regardless of age, religion, or gender.
A common misconception about feminism is that it is strictly for a certain type of person. Myths
about feminists include the standards that being feminists means being homosexual women who
hate men, which is so far from the truth. Though many men, and even some women deny the fact
that they are a feminist because of this, it is because they have their own false perceptions on

Eureka Phenomenon Essay
There are many times when one sits for long periods thinking and trying to find solutions to their
issues, be it in mathematics, or in relationships, or even in challenging games. Often, however, the
answer to the question is found not by deliberately looking for the solution, but while doing
leisurely activities and seeing or hearing something that makes them realize the answer to their
problem. Isaac Asimov goes into detail about this experience in his essay The Eureka Phenomenon
which can also be observed in the film Zootopia, directed by Byron Howard and Rich Moore.
Asimov takes on a decidedly alternative method to solving problematic situations. In his essay, he is
emphatic that thinking too hard for too long about our concerns will... Show more content on

One of these is after Judy and Nick have a confrontation with a jaguar who was affected by the
night howler poison and attacks them. They call the police chief after trapping the Jaguar but by
the time they got back to the area where he was trapped, he has disappeared. Following this Judy
and Nick begin to bond when he shares a story from his past, and Nick jokingly plays the part of
a news anchor covering traffic when he comes to the realization that anything that happened to
the jaguar would have been caught on camera. Boy, look at that traffic down there. How about
we go up to Chuck in traffic central? Chuck, how are things looking on the jam cams?
(Zootopia). Judy ignores him and expresses her appreciation of him opening up to her. Suddenly
it clicks in Nick s head that the jam cams film all the roadways and mentions to Judy, There are
traffic cams everywhere, all over the canopy! Whatever happened to that jaguar...? She finishes his
sentence for him by saying, The traffic cams would have caught it! This revelation ends up leading
Nick and Judy to where all the missing predators are being held

Supply Chain Management Practices of Spanish Garments...
Introduction
This case discusses the unique supply chain management practices of Spanish garments retailer
Zara, which enabled it to gain competitive advantage over other fashion retailers in the world.
Zara s vertically integrated supply chain system enabled the company to place the latest designs
in any store across the world within a period of two to three weeks. The company produced
garments as per the latest trends in a limited quantity. Zara introduced 12,000 designs every year,
with new designs appearing in the stores globally, twice a week. The case explains in detail the
design, production and distribution processes of Zara s supply chain.

Rogers View Of The Good Life
My Thoughts: Rogers description of the good life as a direction is incredibly different from the
American perspective that happiness is a singular goal one can achieve. We often think that, once
we reach a point in life where we re happy, that we ll stay that way indefinitely. Rogers perspective
is less palatable, but probably more accurate.
My Thoughts: To me, this was Roger s most interesting and thoughtprovoking quote. When he
says that someone living the good life would very likely not be a conformist, it makes me think
about the fact that most people are conformists. I don t think being a conformist is a fixed aspect
of who people are, but I do think it s very hard to overcome for people who have lived much of
their lives that ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
I think that the people close to us have a responsibility to tell us how they perceive our behavior.
Whether or not we agree with it, it s still helpful to know that others may not always take things
as we mean them to. This quote made me think of an argument I had with my step father when I
was around 12 or so. We were talking about how the constant arguments we had were making the
house a very negative place to be. I said, Well, if you don t like it, you can leave! He perceived
that as me telling him to get out of the house, but I meant that because he was an adult and had a
car and money, he was able to drive away from the house if he wanted and take a break from it,
whereas I was stuck there. We didn t clear up the misunderstanding at the time, but when I talked
to my brother later that night, he pointed out to me that that was how everyone else in the family
had taken my comment. I would never have even considered that that was how they would have
heard it, but having that pointed out to me has made me more cognizant of the way I word
things, even now, almost 10 years later. By pointing out to me how my words were taken by the
rest of the family, I was able to grow in my ability to consider others

The Issue Of Undocumented Immigrants
As the issue of undocumented immigrants once again dominates the news headlines, our politicians
are faced with the difficult task of enforcing the laws of our land, yet humanely and ethically
tending to those who illegally reside within America s borders. As the political parties face off with
differing ideologies, the undocumented, who are seen as victims from one side and criminals from
the other, are caught in this citizenship purgatory until a political compromise can be achieved.
Until such a compromise occurs, the nation is left dealing with the fallout of this population s
existence. Not belonging, they are left to fend for themselves while living in the shadows.
Surviving through government assistance or using a stolen identity as a means to gain
employment, the undocumented struggle to survive in a nation that is aware of their existence yet
chooses to do nothing about it. To address the illegal immigrationepidemic in the United States, its
leaders must hold all lawbreakers accountable while compassionately and ethically addressing the
issue through a balanced approach of amnesty and deportation. The United States of America as a
republic is defined to have a government of laws, and not of men as stated by John Adams during
its founding (5). Therefore no man or group of men can exist above the law without disturbing civil
cohesion and a breakdown in how our society functions. It is the fundamental responsibility of the
government to maintain and enforce

My Job At The City Of Irvine Right After College
The views between following one s needs and surrendering one s self can clash under particular
conditions such as the environment and yet experienced in various manners. I first started working
for the City of Irvine right after I graduated College 2014. Having the opportunity to work for a city
such as Irvine right after college, I felt so honored and over joyed. Excited to have a job, working
for a beautiful city and enjoying every second of every day and the new challenges and
experiences. This employment opportunity allowed me to be paid above the minimum wage, though
I was not interested in the pay. It also allowed me to make a difference in the people around the
community, which to me, is a value to me. I need to have value within my career choice in
addition to and being able to enjoy my daily tasks. I took this job for the reasons of being
qualified for the position available, and the possibility where this opportunity can lead..
Overtime, I began to feel overworked and under paid. This included 10 hour days for 5 days a
week, including the weekend shifts and was expected to perform tasks that were not included in
our job description. Duties such as janitorial, while those performing these services actually
received more pay, and yet, they do not have the additional responsibilities to enforce policy. The
other payment issue that arose was not being allocated the correct hourly rate for over a year of
employment. These items soon became issues that left me

Poem And William Carlos William s Order In The Streets
In the poem Poem the syntax is very interesting because of how each line is organized. The way
the lines are organized gives an image of what the poem is trying to show us. The way the poem
is laid out may leave some think it is awkward, but the way it is organized actually makes it more
rhythmatic than it would just read out in 1 or 2 lines. When reading the poem I picture the cat
climbing/walking with pauses every time the line ends. For example in lines 5 7, first the right
(Williams 5) pause as the cat steps, forefoot/carefully (Williams 6 7) you can picture the cat going
slowly and carefully. In Order in the Streets, Donald Justice uses similar syntaxstructure to William
Carlos William s Poem . The syntax is similar because both poems use how the lines are
organized as a way to make the poem more interesting. In Order in the Streets , the syntax help
shape a picture of what the author is trying to portray. For example in lines 3 5, Jeep rushes
(Justice 3) you can picture a jeep driving fast, to the scene (Justice 4) you slowly get a sense of
the setting, of riot (Justice 5). By the end of these lines you can picture a jeep rushing to a riot of
some sort. These lines help paint of picture of the poem and help with the theme of them as well
#4In Emily Dickinson s poem Some keep the sabbath going to Church , you can clearly see her
opinion of religion and God. It seems like Dickinson likes the idea of religion, she just prefers to
practice outside of the Church. For example in lines 2 4 following the central metaphor, she says
I keep it, staying at Home /With a Bobolink for a Chorister /And an orchard, for a Dome
(Dickinson 2 4). In these lines she seems to find going out into nature to be more beneficial than
a church. When Dickinson says With a Bobolink for a Chorister , you can see she prefers the
sound of birds over the sound of singing from a member of the choir. And when she says And an
Orchard, for a Dome , it is clear that she prefers looking up and seeing trees rather than a dome of
a chapel. In conclusion, I believe that Dickinson s views on religion is positive, but she prefers to
practice it out in nature.
#5I believe that the poem s title should be known as Dream

Environmental Impact And Sustainability Issues Related For...
Environmental Impact and Sustainability Issues related to PBDEs
In chapter fourteen of our textbook, Environment: The Science Behind The Stories, it is made clear
that the United States does not use the precautionary principle approach when it comes to
evaluating how toxic a substance is (Withgott Laposata, 2014, p. 382). This lack of precaution has
proven to be dangerous when it comes to chemicals, especially when using polybrominated
diphenyl ethers (PBDEs). PBDEs are chemically engineered flame retardants used during the
manufacturing process of clothing, bedding, and many other household goods. These flame
retardants work by eliminating the fire s oxygen supply, resulting in less damage to the item and a
decrease in the chance of a larger fire (Hester Harrison, 2013, p. 45). While PBDEs may have been
necessary during a time when there were fewer fire regulations, it is clear that the negative effects
of these flame retardants outweigh the benefits in today s times.
According to the journal of Environmental Science Technology (2016), the toxicity of PBDEs was
first discovered in Sweden, when a study exposed an unsafe and increasing level of flame
retardants in the breast milk of women. This study showed that PBDEs were potentially toxic and
highly bioaccumulative, meaning that they accumulate in the body instead of being broken down.
PBDEs were identified as mutagens, as well as possible carcinogens. Because of these findings,
PBDEs were banned in some countries and

Public Health Assessment Essay
The purpose of this essay is to define public health and compare it to personal health, also a
discussion of benefits and disadvantages of public health. The following questions will also be
answered: What are the benefits of public health assessments? What are the disadvantages, if any?
Give an example of a potential conflict within the community that could arise as a result of public
healthassessments. How can public health advocates and policy makers prevent and/or manage
such a conflict? How can public health assessments be used to form public policy? Additionally,
this paper will debate the how the community has or will be affected by the smoking in public

When recalling completing the census for 2010; there were many questions on health and
smoking. It left a question as to how this data would be used. In more recent times there has
appeared to be an increase in surveys from medical, corporations, and sales. All of the data
gathered is used to assess how they are doing and are needs being met, the same is true for health
assessments.
Disadvantages and Benefits One of the big disadvantages is the potential for misuse of the
information. An example of misuse is the Breach of HIPAA policies. While working in the
military health environment in Spain, there were many times that someone I knew socially was a
patient in the clinic. One such encounter netted a good friend s whose husband was treated for an
STD (Sexually Transmitted Disease) and was prompted to notify all his sexual partners. His wife
did not come in for a visit; which caused a moral dilemma, questioning what to do; I spoke with the
treating physician and voiced my concerns. The physician took charge and the appropriate action
was completed, thereby avoiding a HIPAA violation. In the wrong hands medical information can
be abused. The stringent punishment for HIPPA violations has curtailed the misuse of information
and limited the public outcries for help. According to the AMA a person can be charged with both
civil and criminal

The Theme Of Death In Slaughterhouse Five And Death
Slaughterhouse Five and Death There s a recurring theme throughout Slaughterhouse Five by Kurt
Vonnegut which permeates throughout the story from beginning to end. It s the idea that death is
just that. Death. One can argue that Vonnegut attempts to desensitize death through the Billy
Pilgrim and the Sci Fi story of the Tralfamadorians, but what if he is instead using these examples
in order to justify the exact opposite idea? By planting us into Billy Pilgrim s surreal and insane
story filled with destruction and soulless human action, it may on surface seem as if he is regarding
death as a meaningless construct, but what if he is instead trying to tell us that death should
actually be something regarded as monumental and crucial to the... Show more content on

The simple phrase seems to follow concepts related to death throughout the first half of the
novel, and the melancholic and casual tone of the phrase parallel with the idea that death is
something to gloss over and not emphasize with. This idea by nature is comforting. It allows
anybody to ignore deaths and view them as unimportant. This comforting way of thinking
simultaneously places the reader into the psyche of Billy Pilgrim and his mentality. The phrase
is repeated over a hundred times, and the repetitive nature of it being stated brings the reader
into the same mindset by sheer repetition. Interestingly enough, the phrase is also very rarely
placed alongside completely unrelated ideas. When Billy Pilgrim uncorked a bottle of
champagne on the kitchen table, It didn t make a pop. The champagne was dead. So it goes (70).
After nearly all of the prior utilization of the phrase so it goes is used to accompany death,
Vonnegut places it next to a moment which is anything but related to it. This shatters the
consistency of the quote and in a way, compares death to any small disappointing moment in a
life. The phrase resonates even more because now, it compares death to something like
overcooking a steak or dropping a cell phone. Doing this is, of course, comfortable. Over the
course of the novel, the reader becomes Billy Pilgrim, and adapts his fatalistic way of thinking.

The Big Bang Theory Of The Universe Essay
Evidence pointed towards that the universe was expanding, but this was not enough to separate the
Big Bang theory from its rivals. A few decades after the redshift concept was discovered, scientists
detected groundbreaking evidence that was considered the smoking gun. Arno Penzias and Robert
Wilson detected the remnants of radiation created from the Big Bang. This cosmic background
radiation was the thermal radiation left over from the Big Bang. It was collected in the form as
omnidirectional microwaves, which was red shifted because of the expansion of the universe. While
they were not able to detect large quantities of cosmic background radiation, the principle of
overdetermination allowed them to make claims from this evidence. They deduced that this
radiation must of come from a Big Bang event were protons and neutrons formed hydrogen atom.
This was the smoking gun to the beginning of the universe, it revealed that only an event like the
Big Bang could create this radiation. All the evidence collected suggested that an event like the
Big Bang would be the only explanation to what scientists had collected. The Big Bang theory
became the most probable theory against its rivals, but scientists were tasked with an even more
difficult problem. They needed to be able to explain how the Big Bang resulted in the unique
universe we observe around us. With the Big Bang theory established, scientists needed to
understand how this theory could create our observable

Figurative Language, Tone, And Characterization Of African...
In our society, specifically the south, African American men are constantly viewed with negative
connotations. It is so disturbing to know our society has molded our minds into believing this
misconception. This fallacy originated from generational hate that has been in existence since
slavery, and is apparent in many forms of African American literature. Black Men in a Public Space
did a phenomenal job of depicting the negative connotations presented to black men in the south. As
I read the literature, it allowed me to picture these senseless acts and sympathize with African
American males. I noticed Staples brought to his readers attention that despite class, race, and

Staples is implying that hikers avail cowbells to let bears know they are in the area. In his case,
he is the hiker, the bears are those who are fearful of Staples, and the cowbell represents actions
that he might do aware people of his presence. Due to this notion of black men being so dangerous ,
they feel as though they must conform to this strange reality to make others feel less endangered
and/or comfortable especially in the south. And yet words on a parchment would not be enough to
deliver slaves from bondage, or provide men and women of every color and creed their full rights
and obligations as citizens of the United State (Obama). President Obama notably avowed this idea
of oppression being embedded in our Constitution. Obama s statement applied figurative language
that presents equality contradictions in the Constitution. It confirms that though we have been
granted lawful freedom, it does not dismantle the inequality that is already institutionalized.
Though, there are a few approaches for black men to dodge the system. For instance, O.J.
Simpson was not viewed as an African American just an American up until he was accused of a
crime. O.J. Simpson was only considered an American until the time of his trial because he did not
associate with many people of color, avoided speaking on topics concerning the black community,

Progressive Reform
The rise of modern American liberalism throughout the history
Having been born in Europe in the epoch of Renaissance and Reformation, the liberalism has
become an inevitable part of the United States. When someone and somewhere talks about the
liberal movement, everybody will mention the American liberalism, which has undergone several
stages of its development and transformed into modern liberalism. This liberalism allows the United
States to be one of the most powerful states in the world.
Since its origin, the United States did not know different political philosophy but liberalism in its
democratic constitutional form. The liberal doctrine in the United States was influenced by some
factors the impact of the American Revolution ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
It claims on different freedoms of people despite their gender, race, and age. Also, one of the
principles of American liberalism is the separation of state and church. The main aim of
liberalism is to promote the general welfare of the American citizens. However, sometimes the
liberalism was too controversial. For example, the involvement of the United States to the wars
violated the rights of people. Speaking about the WWI, George William Norris wrote that war
brings no prosperity to the great mass of common and patriotic citizens. It increases the cost of
living of those who toil and those who already must strain every effort to keep soul and body
together. War brings prosperity to the stock gambler on Wall Street to those who are already in
possession of more wealth than can be realized or enjoyed (149).
Such eager of American people to live in a free society is well understandable and can be
explained by several factors as well. The ultimate goal of the American social ideal is equality of
opportunity and individual initiative. These are not born of bureaucracy. This ideal is the
expression of the spirit of our people. This ideal obtained at the birth of Republic. It was the ideal
of Lincoln; it is the ideal upon which the nation has risen to unparalleled greatness (205). To

CORPORATE SOCIAL RESRPONSIBILITY (CSR)
Introduction
Today, the world faces numerous challenges ranging from dreadful environmental conditions
through poverty and human rights, to energy and resource supply issues. Social responsibility
policy focuses on using the capabilities of a business to improve lives and sustain our planet
through contributions to local communities and society at large. In other words, a business should
fully realize it s potential as an organization to make a better world through corporate self regulation
assimilated into a business module.
CSR and Human Rights The global community expects companies to operate with due admiration
for human rights. Beyond meeting regulatory requirements and social expectations in areas in
which they operate, by proactively presenting more rigorous international standards such as the
United Nations Global Compact, companies will reinforce their commitment to human rights. In
1998 the Secretary General of the UN, declared that he was building a more solid relationship with
the business community. Thriving markets and human security goes hand in hand: without one we
will not have the other (Annan,
1998, p. 1820). Afterwards, a World Economic Forum was held in 1999. At the forum,
Kofi Annan introduced what is known the Global Compact . This is the ten principles agreement

If you re exercising at practice, raise the temperature in the room. This will get you sweating more.
Another way to obtain more sweat is to wear sweats and a sweatshirt (possibly multiple if you
need to shed many pounds) and tape the ends of them to lock in the heat. Also, keep the hood up.

The Thing About Poaching Research Paper
The Thing About Poaching.
Half a century ago, White Rhinos used to roam the vast lands of South Africa. But for some
reason, the number of rhinos has dropped by a million. The answer to this cause is simple.
Poaching. Poaching has continued for many years and has caused a huge number of African
animals to become extinct. With only 25,000 rhinos left in the world, this huge situation should not
only be recognized in Africa, but should also be noticed all over the world.
During the last few centuries, the number of rhinos and elephants has declined dramatically and
is still decreasing rapidly. About 3 rhinos are killed each day. They are hunted down for their
horns which are used to make medicine and ivory carvings. Places like Vietnam and China
tolerate poaching for its medicine that supposedly cures cancer . With higher demands in Asia,
prices have spiked; and so has poaching. According to the Newsela article Rhinos will soon be
extinct if poachers don t stop killing them , in 2014 400 tons of ivory were extracted from
elephants. Statistics have also stated that in 2013, 1,215 rhinos have died at the hands of poaching;

In South Africa, authorities have been cracking down on poaching for many years. It is home to
more than half of the world s rhinos. Crime groups tend to take advantage of the poor law

Zimbabwe. Introduced in Newsela, Poaching has also affected the inhabitants of South Africa as
well . Due to this, many poor, young men have turned to poaching in order to gain money to feed
their families. Even the smallest amount of money would cause survival to be possible. Although
the government has tried many new tactics to stop this problem, there is still very little change. We

The Broad Museum Of Downtown Los Angeles
Opened on September 20, 2015, the Broad Museum in downtown Los Angeles is a fusion of
several different styles of architecture. The Broad museum is a new kind of contemporary art
museum Calling it a gift to the people of Los Angeles, Eli and Edythe Broad donated millions of
dollars to open The Broad Museumin downtown Los Angeles. It stands next to the iconic Disney
Concert Hall that is designed by Frank Gehry and is the first major art museum that is free to. The
public. The Broad is designed by Diller Scofidio and Renfro in teamwork with Gensler. It is a first
for the new York based architect in this city, and one of the number of large new buildings for a
firm that has built its reputation with predominantly conceptual and theoretical projects recently
.The architects, Diller, Scofidio and Renfro, demonstrate the museum as consisting of three parts
the vault, the veil, and the exhibition spaces in between the two. The architecture highlights every
painting and sculpture through its use of veil, vault, and the exhibition spaces. Though it will
continue to be controversial, many architects will see the Broad Museum as the wave of future.
The concept of the veil and the vault in designing the broad is based on joining the two parts of the
building: one of them is public exhibition space and the other one is collection storage. Instead of
relegating the storage to secondary place, the vault, plays an important role in making the museum
experience from entry to exit.

Grignard Lab
A Grignard Like Organic Reaction
The Synthesis of 1 phenyl 3 buten 1 ol
Introduction
The Grignard reaction is an important synthetic process by which a new carbon to carbon bond is
formed. Magnesium metal is first reacted with an organic halide forming the Grignard reagent. The
Grignard reaction is the addition of an organomagnesium halide (Grignard reagent) to a ketone or
aldehyde, to form a tertiary or secondary alcohol, respectively. For example, the reaction with
formaldehyde leads to a primary alcohol. Grignard Reagents are also used in the following
important reactions: The addition of an excess of a Grignard reagent to an ester or lactone gives a
tertiary alcohol in which two alkyl groups are the same, and the addition of a ... Show more content

Operation Anaconda Command Structure
Command Structure of Operation Anaconda In the simplest of terms, command structures utilized
during combat operations are commanded by one commander with the resources and authority to
plan and execute operations. Prior to Operation Anaconda multiple dislocated command structures
oversaw operations within the same area of responsibility (AOR). During Operation Anaconda the
lack of one command structure with the authority over all assets and participants resulted in
fratricide, competition over assets, and other areas of inefficiencies and ineffectiveness. Command
Structure and locations before Operation Anaconda In the infancy of Operation Enduring Freedom
the command structure was dislocated, lacked complete oversight, and had other responsibilities
that stacked the deck against them to be able to properly prepare for Operation Anaconda. General
Franks Commanded Operations in Afghanistan as the CENTCOM Commander from MacDill Air
Force Base in Florida. CENTCOM directed Operations through the Coalition Forces Air
Component Command (CFACC) via its Combined Air Operations Center (CAOC) in the Persian

Difference Between What Eatracker Recommends And What The...
There is a slight difference between what eaTracker recommends and what the CFG suggests.
The CFG is more lenient (7 8 and 6 7 for vegetables and Fruits, and Grain products, respectively)
while eaTracker is more definitive for those values, 8 and 7 respectively. The values for milk and
alternatives, and meatand alternatives is the same however, two for both. The difference might be
due to the specific nature of eaTracker, it has my weight, height, specific age and gender, and
my exercising habits, to gather data from while CFG only has my gender and age to narrow
down recommendations from. Due to the difference in information eaTracker can be more
specific as it is adjusted for me while CFG is made for the general public, relying on a lot of
statistics to come to its conclusions (such as average height and weight of females in Canada).
c) Unfortunately, I have not met the recommended intake by eaTRackers standard for any of the
food groups making my diet inadequate. For fruits and veggies I could have had one more in
order to meet the standard, I could include a cup of raw zucchini to sprinkle with my salad. For
the grain products, I can consume 2.15 cups of rice. I was close to the recommended servings
for the diary and alternative if I add 0.5 cup of milk I would meet my standard. For the meat and

Gender Roles in Great Expectations Essay
Gender Roles in Great Expectations
The importance of the Victorian ideal of motherhood is glimpsed in Charles Dickens s personal
life. Dickens s main complaint against his wife when he separated from her was her terrible
parenting. Around the time that his separation from his wife was being finalized, Dickens
complains of Catherine in a letter to his friend Angela Burdett Coutts: She does not and never did
care for the children; and the children do not and they never did care for her (qtd. in Slater 146).
From evidence in other letters and the seeming abruptness with which Dickens took on this point of
view, Dickens biographer Michael Slater suggests that this was something that Dickens had to get ...

From the writing on his gravestone, Pip perceives his father as square, stout, dark man, with curly
black hair (23; ch. 1). Similarly, Pip reports Mrs. Joe as having black hair and eyes (28; ch. 1).Pip
infers his mother s appearance from her gravestone as well: from the turn of the inscription ... I
drew a childish conclusion that my mother was freckled and sickly (23; ch. 1). Joe, although not
freckled, has light skin with features far more feminine than Mrs. Joe s: Joe was a fair man,
with curls of flaxen hair on each side of his smooth face, and with eyes of such a very undecided
blue (28; ch. 1). Pip s physical description of all these parent figures reveals the ambivalent gender
identities in the Gargery home. Joe s physical appearance seems more feminine, and he is much
more nurturing than Mrs. Joe, who is described in terms similar to Pip s deceased father.
Mrs. Joe is described in some masculine ways, but her behavior is the most significant indicator
of her desire not to be trapped in the traditional feminine domestic role. Mrs. Joe s emotional
distance from her family is exemplified in the apron that she wears: she almost always wore a
coarse apron ... having a square impregnable bib in front, that was stuck full of pins and needles
(28; ch. 2). Dickens use of the word impregnable evinces many non maternal associations

Vietnam was a long bloody stalemate that lasted from 1955 to 1975. In 1954 Vietnamese
Nationalist gained independence from French colonial rule. Communist formed in the north while
a non communist regime supported by America started in the south. The Vietcong from the north
would fight the south s regime and U.S soldiers for years. March 8, 1965 is when the first
American troops hit the ground. America got involved because we feared the spread of
communism also known as the domino effect. After spilling a lot of blood President Nixon knew
people of America were upset. On November 3, 1969 he announced that he was going to start

Behavioral Theory (REBT) which is a form of Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) which I
used with my client. Readers will discover detailed information about this theory, including the
basic beliefs of this theory, the interventions of this theory that I utilized, and how changes occur
in my client s life by using this form of therapy. Readers will also discover how I monitored my
client s progress throughout the intervention stages. Along with this information, readers will
also be informed of how I held myself accountable as my client s social worker by having my
work evaluated. The final information, that readers will learn, is how I would terminate
counseling services with this client according to REBT. My client is presently serving time for
illegal drug activity at Riker s Island. He has been incarcerated for the majority of his lifetime for
the same issues. The client does have issues with drug abuse, however from an REBT orientation
once the client s manner of thinking changes, the client s behavior will change. My client has
expressed issues concerning anxiety over being released because, as explained by the client, he feels

Groupthink In Rwanda
The 2004 film, Hotel Rwanda, directed by Terry George, highlights the brutality of the Rwandan
Genocide between the Hutu and the Tutsi peoples. The results of the conflict were the death of
almost one million Rwandan citizens, mostly Tutsi. Initially, the conflict arose when Belgium
internationals came into Rwandaand gave power to the Tutsi, who were lighter skinned and taller,
which led to extremist Hutugroups to arise in response to this unfairness. Ultimately, this uprising
and forming of the two distinct groups was heavily influenced by propaganda, political corruption,
and groupthink, and all of which essentially resulted in the huge tragedy. Conflict Theory is directly
tied to what occurred during the Rwanda Genocide, where ideologies... Show more content on

The concept of groupthink comes from Irving Janis who discusses how small groups tend to be
vulnerable to a dangerous psychological process (Barash 2014, 31). This group mentality allows
for desensitization as well as a thirst for power. During the film, Paul Rusesabagina interacts
multiple times with Georges Rutaganda who leads Interahamwe, a cruel local Hutu militia. Often
he is seen trying to influence Paul into agreeing with his ideals either with threats or solicitations.
There is a parade for Hutu Power during the film, where George is seen dancing along others
whom are all brandishing weapons. This scene is significant because it shows how blissful events
such as parades can influence individuals to celebrate a cause that is questionable. Additionally, one
important symptom of groupthink is the illusion of being invulnerable to the main dangers that
might arise from a risky action in which the group is strongly tempted to engage (Barash 2014, 35).
It seemed as though throughout the film the members of the militia felt invincible and did not
believe action would be taken against them, as was often the case. Thus, with this image of
complete power in their minds, they felt no guilt with their actions, especially in a group

Evolution Of The Initial Entry Training Essay
The evolution of the Initial Entry Trainer dates back to the early 1960s, when the drill sergeants
(DS) were introduced into the training force. The DS have continued to be the key factor to
instilling discipline and standards in our new Soldiers. Over time, the Army has evaluated and
made changes to the programs to ensure the best possible training is available for new recruits.
The introduction of the advanced individual training (AIT) platoon sergeants was one of the
most recent changes to the initial entry training (IET) program. The Army will continue to
evaluate and assess the IET training program to assure training is still relevant to the needs of
the Army. Late in 1962, Secretary of the Army Elvis J. Stahr Jr. directed Under Secretary of the
Army Stephen Ailes to survey how the recruits are trained in the Army. The research was pooled
from a wide variety of personnel and took a very longtime. This research also included other
branches of service, comparing techniques and strategies to ensure they had the most accurate data
available. The survey findings concluded the noncommissioned officers (NCOs) were poorly
regarded working long hours, lack of free time for family concerns, and inadequate staffing. The
survey also concluded that the caliber of NCOs that were selected were below the standard
required by other services. (unknown, n.d.) The next year the Army began pilot courses at Fort
Jackson, South Carolina testing the revised methods of

Economic Integration
An economic integration, established on global, continental or regional level, is not a newborn
phenomenon. Ever since the voyages of Marco Polo in 1260, (Latham, 1958) the collaboration and
integration of world economies through trade, movements of factors of production and
transmission of economically effective knowledge and technology has been continuously
increasing. (Masson, 2000) The overall process of globalisation and economic integration has been
in most cases globally beneficial, but alongside winners it had also created losers, and the
progression of economic integration has neither always advanced smoothly nor has it been
advantageous to all whom it had affected. The ideas and their implementation leading towards

(Dearden McDonald, 2005) Suranovic emphasizes the importance of effectiveness of
communication between all integrated countries and also focuses his attention on the coordination
of their trade, fiscal and monetary policies. (Suranovic, 1998)
Tinbergen in his International Economic Integration recognized two integrational dimensions and
identified them as negative and positive. Negative integration, generally less complicated to reach
than the positive, eradicates the measures used by states to obstruct the free flow of economic
resources between integrated countries, while the positive integration involves alteration of already
existing economic and political instruments and permits international markets to operate more
effectively. (Tinbergen, 1965) Example of implementation of the negative dimension could be
found in the early stages of the European Union, which, by employing the positive approach,
reached the higher levels of the economic integration. (Banchoff Smith, 1999) It is very seldom
that countries involved in the process of integration actually follow a certain pattern, (Holden,
2003) however, there are several formally recognisable phases of

Terrorism In Marshall Curry s When A Tree Falls
In a modern world with so many different competing views, philosophies and ideologies the term
terrorism is very politically and emotionally charged. Because of this it has become nearly
impossible to come up with a universal definition of what terrorism actually is. In the documentary
directed by Marshall Curry and titled When a Tree Falls. In the film the idea of what is a terrorist
is examined through the criminal prosecution of members of the Earth Liberation Front, focusing
primarily on the prosecution of Daniel McGowan. There are as many as 109 different definitions of
terrorismin use around the world, the United States has multiple legal definitions of terrorism in use
at any one time (Potter, Green Is the New Red, p. 36,37). With this vague soup of definitions
governments across the globe demonize any groups of opposition that oppose their actions and
ideologies. It is on these grounds and the fact that Daniel McGowan s actions were nonviolent
property crimes, without any actual direct attempt to coerce an audience into political action that he
should not receive a terrorism enhancement on his conviction.

Umbrella Policy
What is an Umbrella policy?
An umbrella policy is an additional liability insurance coverage above and beyond the limits of
the insured s regular insurance for home, auto or watercraft. It is used to ensure an extra layer of
security for people at risk of being sued for damages done to others properties or physical injuries
caused to others as a result of an accident. The umbrella nomenclature is used as in referring to the
broader coverage provided by the policy.

Significant property damage: If a personal or business vehicle causes significant damage to another
vehicle and/or property through an accident as a result of the policy owner s fault, it may exhaust
the standard auto insurance liability limit. There comes the scope of personal or commercial

2.Liability of serious physical injury: The policy owner s limit of standard homeowners insurance
liability may not be enough to cover costs for medical treatment and other issues related to a guest
falling prey to an accident inside his home. This needs a personal umbrella policy for the
homeowner, or a commercial umbrella policy if the house is a business property.
3.Libel or slander. Expensive lawsuits may result from something said or written by the policy

For many people, the property is seen as such an investment. According to the 2013 Daft.ie
Rental Report gross property yields on average across Ireland are 6%. In Dublin, the yields
range from 5.2% in South County Dublin to 8.1% in Dublin City Centre. Rent levels continue to
grow year on year. Access to the property is still quite difficult due to lack of property supply in
desirable areas and a lack of access to finance. Of course, it is impossible to predict how the
market will fare in the coming years and so, as with any investment, there is a risk of the yield on

in the property market might consider using their pension funds to purchase the property. One of
the main benefits of using a pension fund to purchase property is that you can use monies which
have not been subject to income tax to purchase the property. Property purchased outside a pension
fund is purchased from post income tax proceeds or else purchased using borrowings that must be
repaid using post tax income. Given the current marginal rates of tax, up to a maximum of 55%, it

than investing through after tax income. Of course, not all individuals have control of where their

Since cover crops help reduce soil erosion nutrients stay in the soil instead of running off into
streams and rivers. Cover crops also reduces weeds which eliminates the need for herbicides.
The use of legumes as a cover crop promotes biological nitrogen fixation. Therefore, the farmer or
rancher may not have to apply nitrogen fertilizers (Reynolds). Altogether the participant receives
many environmental and financial benefits from the program. The benefits of EQIP can also be
seen in other outside independent businesses and companies. These businesses and companies
rely on EQIP participants to use their supplies and services. A dirt moving company supplies dirt
for EQIP participants involved in a land leveling practice. A seed and fertilizer company supplies
seeds and fertilizers for EQIP participants involved in conservation cover, cover crops, and forage
and biomass planting. The incomes these businesses and companies receive helps pay for the daily
financial needs.
Conclusion
As an employee of the NRCS, I see the benefits of the program first hand. I work with the
program and its participants on a daily basis. I hear the positive feedback from the participants. In
my year of work experience I have had the opportunity to work with these participants from
beginning to end. The comparison of a pre EQIPed operation to a post EQIPed operation is
tremendous. I personally believe the benefits of EQIP outweigh the costs of the program.

change. The Lottery is a perfect example of this. The word lottery in this story is very ironic; it
normally represents a positive aspect, but in this case, whoever wins the lottery, dies. It goes to
show that there is definitely something wrong with the community. The people have been
involved with this so called lottery for years, Listening to the young folks, nothing s good
enough for them...There s always been a lottery (Jackson 5), and believe that without it, they
would have an unsuccessful harvest season. They are so against change, and while most of the
people of the town know that what they are doing is wrong, no one will change it, because it has
been tradition for so long. Consequently, Tessie dies at the end because of people s fear of
change. The third and final story, The Shining Houses , deals with people who are so adamant that
they must live a certain way, the same way as everyone else, and are in opposition to anyone who
decides differently. Mrs. Fullerton is an uncomplicated old woman. Her husbands absence

Counterfeiting In The Fashion Industry
Consumers want quantity over quality. Nowadays, it appear more and more of the regular
consumers are uninterested in the quality of the product they buy, but rather how much they will
acquire from it. This leads to consumer purchasing fashion counterfeit products which is becoming
a rising issue in the United States and Europe. Counterfeiting is an illegal act of producing and
selling a replica of an authentic product without the permission of the designer. This market
expands from movies, games, money, even medicine to clothes and accessories. Counterfeiting is a
fast growing industry that is a worldwide problem which consumers play a vast role in. Aside from
harmless pirated movies and the danger of fake pharmaceuticals, fashion takes up the largest
portion of counterfeitgoods. To support this statement, according to Simms, Thomas explained,
luxury brands are among the most counterfeited products today the World Customs Organization
states that the fashion industry loses up to $9.7 billion...per year to counterfeiting (Simms 2). The
unethical act of counterfeiting continues to rapidly increase, it is affecting almost all areas of the
industry (Hilton et al. 346). This is a massive problem because it impacts the world socially and
economically. Since counterfeiting is illegal, sales total are not being registered, therefore, it affects
tax revenues and other government spending. Besides tax revenues, unemployment rate decreases
in America and Europe, hence the

Playboy Research Paper
I was raised and I think it probably was a cause and effect correlation here in a very Puritan home
and there were very few hugs and kisses in my home. No education or conversation about sex. I
grew up believing in fairly traditional views and values about sex. I didn t have sexual
intercourse for the first time until I was out of college and I had spent two years in the army and
it was with the girl I was planning on marrying. And she was my first wife. I believe that was
typical of my peers. My friends and classmates and chums were all pretty much the same. It was
the typical Midwestern, middle class life. Very different than life today ( Hugh Hefner Discusses
Playboy s Legacy, par. 3). Those are the words of Hugh M. Hefner, an American adult publisher
who was just the average Puritan raised fellow before his sexually driven Playboy enterprise took
the world by storm in the 1950s. But this out of the box... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The first televised production from the Playboy Enterprises was a short run series called
Playboy s Penthouse. Another Hefner featured series came about a decade later called Playboy
After Dark, which shared the same premise as the previous program. The numerous amounts of
ladies on the show, Playmates, would share the bachelor pad staged set weekly and discuss
various topics with Hefner ( Hugh Hefner Biography, par. 13). The women on the show were
shown more so as objects to set the mood of the seductive programming, unlike Hefner s 21st
century television comeback The Girls Next Door. This time around, the women on the show were
given more value as Hefner openly obtains a relationship with leading Playboy Bunnies Holly
Madison, Kendra Wilkinson, and Bridget Marquardt (par. 23). Unlike the 20th century, The Girls
Next Door became a global smash hit and turned the featured beauties into household names in

Brunelleschi s Dome Research Paper
It took me awhile to find the right article, but after some research, I found Brunelleschi s Dome
in National Geographic. The first question that I looked to answer was the motivation that led to
the discovery of the dome. To paraphrase what I learned from the quoted article of National
Geographic, there was a hole that was the sore sight of the cathedral in Florence. The name was
Santa Maria . In order to cover up this eyesore, the leaders of the Catholic Church held a
competition in which 200 gold florins were offered to the winner that could best cover up the
hole. After listening to many contestants, the Church finally chose Filipo Brunelleschi. He was a
young and irate genius, but he promised that he could build an inner and outer dome and
eventually he did. There were several questions that had to be asked; among them were how to
cover the whole and what techniques to use so that the dome would not collapse on itself. It was
not a task that was done in a day or even a decade. From the time that Brunelleschi was little, he
had tinkered around with gears and gadgets. Because of this tinkering around and his learning
from being a gold smith and studying architecture, he used his knowledge of the past and came up
with the idea of an inner and outer dome. It was supported by solid brick at the base and hoop ring
support at the top.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Hidden Truths of the Food Industry
The hidden truths of the Food Industry
It was our normal routine during the week, driving through the drive thru to get the kids a bite to
eat. One day it could be Jack n the Box, another day it could be Mc Donald s or Carl s Jr, which
ever fast food was voted on amongst my daughters is where we went. This past summer what
seemed to be just another trip through the drive thru became a nightmare after eating hamburgers at
our usual Carl s Jr. Not so long after we ate, my older daughter began with severe abdominal
cramps, diarrhea, fever, chills, nausea and vomiting. I was immediately concerned and rushed her to
the hospital to find out that she had food poisoning. There wasn t much the doctor could do other
than tell her to drink a lot of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The Mc Donald brother s created a revolutionary idea of how to run a restaurant. They brought the
factory system to the back of their restaurant, training employees to do just one thing. Kenner is
effective in engaging his audience when he shows viewers an animation of animals coming into a
farm house from an assembly line. Kenner was hoping that people would be alarmed with how
our food is now be raised and produced. Take the Tyson Company who is the biggest meat packing
company in the world. The food industry because of mass production has changed how a chicken
is raised. Kenner provides a logical visual example showing his viewers that birds are being
raised and slaughtered at half the time they were 50 years ago. The visual demonstration of
redesigning the chicken to make the breast larger was meant to draw on his viewer s emotions
as well as bringing a sense of urgency to the cause. Kenner went on to explain how farmers today
don t own their birds, a company like Tyson owns them from the day they are dropped off until
they are slaughtered . Kenner wants to come off authoritative and interviews Richard Lobb, from
the National Chicken Council. Lobb provides sufficient information on how big companies like
Tyson have taken over the industry. Lobb says, in a way we are not producing chickens, we are
producing food (Food Inc.). He goes on to tell us, how the system is highly mechanized and all of

The Importance Of Puritan Values In American Society
The Puritan values, constructed in the seventeenth century, originated from a movement to reform
the Church of England. This particular movement still plays a vital role in the American society
influencing the social, ethical, and theological ideas of modern day citizens. These ideas that
were put forth were the starting point for the American culture offering new ideas of how to think
and how to live. The writers and thinkers of John Winthrop, Arthur Miller, and Benjamin Franklin
make it possible for people to study and apply these laws to their own lives hundreds of years
after they were introduced. Even though not all tenets are practiced as strongly as others, the
concepts of the value of hard work and a self reliant lifestyle still resonate in the hearts of many
American individuals hundreds of years after the birth of this Puritanlifestyle. Although there
many examples of America still following the values of a Puritan culture, the tenet in which
America falls short is the practice of living a holy life: piety. The value and importance of piety is
shown thorough Arthur Miller s The Crucible where a man named John Proctor goes from an
honorable man to a shunned one when he is found guilty of adultery and not knowing his 10 holy
commandments. After his actions were revealed, his name was blackened and he was no longer the
respectable man the town once thought he was (Miller 1171, 1231). Today, Americans get divorces,
indulge in premarital sex, cheat, steal,

Theme, Themes In Stanley Yelnats Holes, By Louis Sachar
Have you ever been accused of doing something you certainly didn t do? Have you ever had that
feeling that no matter how good you are and how hard you try to not mess up things just turn out?
Have you ever felt as if you were accident prone or if it was just pure bad luck?Well that s what
Stanley Yelnats felt since that was what actually happened in the book Holesby Louis Sachar. There
is a lot to this book, such as themes, characters, and quite a few different locations. The main theme
of this story, Holes, is growing up because, in this book Stanley learns a lot; he has a lot of
ambition, and he shows a ton of responsibility for his own actions, but also for others as well,
whether it will get him into some trouble or not. Stanley learns... Show more content on

He takes this trait and uses it. He shows it often because in the book he learns that not all his
unlucky events are due to his no good dirty rotten pig stealing great great grandfather s curse.
Stanley shows responsibility for his own actions and at one point others actions. So, tell me
Caveman, said Mr.Sir. How did my sack of sunflower seeds get in your hole? I stole it from your
trunk, Stanley answered.
(Sachar, 56)
This quote was chosen because Stanley says that he took the seed but really he was just
covering to make friends. Another example is when he tries to find Zero and attempts to steal
Mr.Sir s truck. In the moment he gets caught he realized that it was his fault that he got caught
and not his no good dirty rotten pig stealing great great grandfather s curse that had been set on
the family. In conclusion this book represents the theme of growing up because the main
character shows three of the characterististics of the theme I chose. These include learning,
ambition, and responsibility. Stanley learns a ton while at Camp Green Lake. He also shows lots
of ambition and displays many forms of responsibility. This book follows a great storyline, as well
as one about how the camp used to be. The story also includes many characters with different
personalities and could display way more than just one main

  • 2. The Causes Of The Japanese Internment Of WWII The Japanese internment of WWII was one of the biggest cases of racial prejudice America has ever committed. During a time when Italian and German Americans were a much bigger threat to our nation s security, we deliberately alienated Japanese citizens in our society. Not only did we restrict the freedoms of American born citizens for three years, but we have also caused long term, irreparable damage to the Japanese people, and their society. While internment may have decreased the odds of Japanese spies in our military and mob violence it is no excuse for the atrocity we put our own citizens through. American citizens, who are granted the right to life, liberty, and the pursuit of happyness, were robbed of these very rights our country was founded on. Internment camps were often in the middle of nowhere, and in very disatifactory condition for all residing in them. After internment many people, since they could not pay their mortgage loans, lost their homes and life savings causing widespread poverty. These and many other factors are why internment during WWII was unjust and motivated by racial prejudice, not national security. While Japanese internment may have isolated a small amount of Japanese spies, it was unjustified considering that the majority of people interned where innocent. According to government officials at the time, Japanese American citizens posed no threat to the West coast. Curtis B Munson said in the Muson Report that, There is no Japanese problem ... • 3. Feminist Feminism The women that march around burning bras, hating men, and denying to shave their body hair. A perfect definition for a feminist, right? Wrong. If you do not agree with feminism, it could possibly be because everything you know about it is wrong. According to a poll conducted by PerryUndem in 2015, a research and communications firm, 85 percent of Americans believe in equality for women. Yet, only 18 percent of respondents identified as a feminist. Evidently, it is a belief that is wildly misunderstood and learning more about it could change one s perception of the world completely. The basic assumption shared by all feminists is that women suffer certain injustices on account of their sex. Feminists stress the importance of gender divisions in society and it simply portrays these divisions as working to the overall advantage of men. Although feminists are united with their common desire for sexual justice and their concern for women s welfare, there is a range spectrum of feminist views that many are uneducated on. Many do not know that anyone can be a feminist regardless of age, religion, or gender. A common misconception about feminism is that it is strictly for a certain type of person. Myths about feminists include the standards that being feminists means being homosexual women who hate men, which is so far from the truth. Though many men, and even some women deny the fact that they are a feminist because of this, it is because they have their own false perceptions on ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. Eureka Phenomenon Essay There are many times when one sits for long periods thinking and trying to find solutions to their issues, be it in mathematics, or in relationships, or even in challenging games. Often, however, the answer to the question is found not by deliberately looking for the solution, but while doing leisurely activities and seeing or hearing something that makes them realize the answer to their problem. Isaac Asimov goes into detail about this experience in his essay The Eureka Phenomenon which can also be observed in the film Zootopia, directed by Byron Howard and Rich Moore. Asimov takes on a decidedly alternative method to solving problematic situations. In his essay, he is emphatic that thinking too hard for too long about our concerns will... Rogers View Of The Good Life My Thoughts: Rogers description of the good life as a direction is incredibly different from the American perspective that happiness is a singular goal one can achieve. We often think that, once we reach a point in life where we re happy, that we ll stay that way indefinitely. Rogers perspective is less palatable, but probably more accurate. My Thoughts: To me, this was Roger s most interesting and thoughtprovoking quote. When he says that someone living the good life would very likely not be a conformist, it makes me think about the fact that most people are conformists. I don t think being a conformist is a fixed aspect of who people are, but I do think it s very hard to overcome for people who have lived much of their lives that ... We were talking about how the constant arguments we had were making the house a very negative place to be. I said, Well, if you don t like it, you can leave! He perceived that as me telling him to get out of the house, but I meant that because he was an adult and had a car and money, he was able to drive away from the house if he wanted and take a break from it, whereas I was stuck there. We didn t clear up the misunderstanding at the time, but when I talked to my brother later that night, he pointed out to me that that was how everyone else in the family had taken my comment. I would never have even considered that that was how they would have heard it, but having that pointed out to me has made me more cognizant of the way I word things, even now, almost 10 years later. • 8. The Issue Of Undocumented Immigrants As the issue of undocumented immigrants once again dominates the news headlines, our politicians are faced with the difficult task of enforcing the laws of our land, yet humanely and ethically tending to those who illegally reside within America s borders. As the political parties face off with differing ideologies, the undocumented, who are seen as victims from one side and criminals from the other, are caught in this citizenship purgatory until a political compromise can be achieved. Until such a compromise occurs, the nation is left dealing with the fallout of this population s existence. Not belonging, they are left to fend for themselves while living in the shadows. Surviving through government assistance or using a stolen identity as a means to gain employment, the undocumented struggle to survive in a nation that is aware of their existence yet chooses to do nothing about it. To address the illegal immigrationepidemic in the United States, its leaders must hold all lawbreakers accountable while compassionately and ethically addressing the issue through a balanced approach of amnesty and deportation. The United States of America as a republic is defined to have a government of laws, and not of men as stated by John Adams during its founding (5). • 10. Poem And William Carlos William s Order In The Streets In the poem Poem the syntax is very interesting because of how each line is organized. The way the lines are organized gives an image of what the poem is trying to show us. The way the poem is laid out may leave some think it is awkward, but the way it is organized actually makes it more rhythmatic than it would just read out in 1 or 2 lines. When reading the poem I picture the cat climbing/walking with pauses every time the line ends. For example in lines 5 7, first the right (Williams 5) pause as the cat steps, forefoot/carefully (Williams 6 7) you can picture the cat going slowly and carefully. In Order in the Streets, Donald Justice uses similar syntaxstructure to William Carlos William s Poem . The syntax is similar because both poems use how the lines are organized as a way to make the poem more interesting. In Order in the Streets , the syntax help shape a picture of what the author is trying to portray. For example in lines 3 5, Jeep rushes (Justice 3) you can picture a jeep driving fast, to the scene (Justice 4) you slowly get a sense of the setting, of riot (Justice 5). By the end of these lines you can picture a jeep rushing to a riot of some sort. These lines help paint of picture of the poem and help with the theme of them as well #4In Emily Dickinson s poem Some keep the sabbath going to Church , you can clearly see her opinion of religion and God. It seems like Dickinson likes the idea of religion, she just prefers to practice outside of the Church. For example in lines 2 4 following the central metaphor, she says I keep it, staying at Home /With a Bobolink for a Chorister /And an orchard, for a Dome (Dickinson 2 4). In these lines she seems to find going out into nature to be more beneficial than a church. When Dickinson says With a Bobolink for a Chorister , you can see she prefers the sound of birds over the sound of singing from a member of the choir. And when she says And an Orchard, for a Dome , it is clear that she prefers looking up and seeing trees rather than a dome of a chapel. In conclusion, I believe that Dickinson s views on religion is positive, but she prefers to practice it out in nature. #5I believe that the poem s title should be known as Dream ... • 11. Environmental Impact And Sustainability Issues Related For... Environmental Impact and Sustainability Issues related to PBDEs In chapter fourteen of our textbook, Environment: The Science Behind The Stories, it is made clear that the United States does not use the precautionary principle approach when it comes to evaluating how toxic a substance is (Withgott Laposata, 2014, p. 382). This lack of precaution has proven to be dangerous when it comes to chemicals, especially when using polybrominated diphenyl ethers (PBDEs). PBDEs are chemically engineered flame retardants used during the manufacturing process of clothing, bedding, and many other household goods. These flame retardants work by eliminating the fire s oxygen supply, resulting in less damage to the item and a decrease in the chance of a larger fire (Hester Harrison, 2013, p. 45). While PBDEs may have been necessary during a time when there were fewer fire regulations, it is clear that the negative effects of these flame retardants outweigh the benefits in today s times. According to the journal of Environmental Science Technology (2016), the toxicity of PBDEs was first discovered in Sweden, when a study exposed an unsafe and increasing level of flame retardants in the breast milk of women. This study showed that PBDEs were potentially toxic and highly bioaccumulative, meaning that they accumulate in the body instead of being broken down. PBDEs were identified as mutagens, as well as possible carcinogens. Because of these findings, PBDEs were banned in some countries and ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

All of the data gathered is used to assess how they are doing and are needs being met, the same is true for health assessments. Disadvantages and Benefits One of the big disadvantages is the potential for misuse of the information. An example of misuse is the Breach of HIPAA policies. The simple phrase seems to follow concepts related to death throughout the first half of the novel, and the melancholic and casual tone of the phrase parallel with the idea that death is something to gloss over and not emphasize with. This idea by nature is comforting. It allows anybody to ignore deaths and view them as unimportant. This comforting way of thinking simultaneously places the reader into the psyche of Billy Pilgrim and his mentality. The phrase is repeated over a hundred times, and the repetitive nature of it being stated brings the reader into the same mindset by sheer repetition. Interestingly enough, the phrase is also very rarely placed alongside completely unrelated ideas. When Billy Pilgrim uncorked a bottle of champagne on the kitchen table, It didn t make a pop. The champagne was dead. So it goes (70). After nearly all of the prior utilization of the phrase so it goes is used to accompany death, Vonnegut places it next to a moment which is anything but related to it. This shatters the consistency of the quote and in a way, compares death to any small disappointing moment in a life. The phrase resonates even more because now, it compares death to something like overcooking a steak or dropping a cell phone. Doing this is, of course, comfortable. A few decades after the redshift concept was discovered, scientists detected groundbreaking evidence that was considered the smoking gun. Arno Penzias and Robert Wilson detected the remnants of radiation created from the Big Bang. This cosmic background radiation was the thermal radiation left over from the Big Bang. It was collected in the form as omnidirectional microwaves, which was red shifted because of the expansion of the universe. While they were not able to detect large quantities of cosmic background radiation, the principle of overdetermination allowed them to make claims from this evidence. They deduced that this radiation must of come from a Big Bang event were protons and neutrons formed hydrogen atom. This was the smoking gun to the beginning of the universe, it revealed that only an event like the Big Bang could create this radiation. All the evidence collected suggested that an event like the Big Bang would be the only explanation to what scientists had collected. The Big Bang theory became the most probable theory against its rivals, but scientists were tasked with an even more difficult problem. Operation Anaconda Command Structure Command Structure of Operation Anaconda In the simplest of terms, command structures utilized during combat operations are commanded by one commander with the resources and authority to plan and execute operations. Prior to Operation Anaconda multiple dislocated command structures oversaw operations within the same area of responsibility (AOR). During Operation Anaconda the lack of one command structure with the authority over all assets and participants resulted in fratricide, competition over assets, and other areas of inefficiencies and ineffectiveness. • 25. Difference Between What Eatracker Recommends And What The... There is a slight difference between what eaTracker recommends and what the CFG suggests. The CFG is more lenient (7 8 and 6 7 for vegetables and Fruits, and Grain products, respectively) while eaTracker is more definitive for those values, 8 and 7 respectively. The values for milk and alternatives, and meatand alternatives is the same however, two for both. The difference might be due to the specific nature of eaTracker, it has my weight, height, specific age and gender, and my exercising habits, to gather data from while CFG only has my gender and age to narrow down recommendations from. Due to the difference in information eaTracker can be more specific as it is adjusted for me while CFG is made for the general public, relying on a lot of statistics to come to its conclusions (such as average height and weight of females in Canada). c) Unfortunately, I have not met the recommended intake by eaTRackers standard for any of the food groups making my diet inadequate. For fruits and veggies I could have had one more in order to meet the standard, I could include a cup of raw zucchini to sprinkle with my salad. For the grain products, I can consume 2.15 cups of rice. I was close to the recommended servings for the diary and alternative if I add 0.5 cup of milk I would meet my standard. Dickens s main complaint against his wife when he separated from her was her terrible parenting. Around the time that his separation from his wife was being finalized, Dickens complains of Catherine in a letter to his friend Angela Burdett Coutts: She does not and never did care for the children; and the children do not and they never did care for her (qtd. in Slater 146). Joe, although not freckled, has light skin with features far more feminine than Mrs. Joe s: Joe was a fair man, with curls of flaxen hair on each side of his smooth face, and with eyes of such a very undecided blue (28; ch. 1). Pip s physical description of all these parent figures reveals the ambivalent gender identities in the Gargery home. Joe s physical appearance seems more feminine, and he is much more nurturing than Mrs. Joe, who is described in terms similar to Pip s deceased father. Mrs. Joe is described in some masculine ways, but her behavior is the most significant indicator of her desire not to be trapped in the traditional feminine domestic role. Mrs. Joe s emotional distance from her family is exemplified in the apron that she wears: she almost always wore a coarse apron ... having a square impregnable bib in front, that was stuck full of pins and needles (28; ch. 2). The results of the conflict were the death of almost one million Rwandan citizens, mostly Tutsi. Initially, the conflict arose when Belgium internationals came into Rwandaand gave power to the Tutsi, who were lighter skinned and taller, which led to extremist Hutugroups to arise in response to this unfairness. The concept of groupthink comes from Irving Janis who discusses how small groups tend to be vulnerable to a dangerous psychological process (Barash 2014, 31). This group mentality allows for desensitization as well as a thirst for power. During the film, Paul Rusesabagina interacts multiple times with Georges Rutaganda who leads Interahamwe, a cruel local Hutu militia. Often he is seen trying to influence Paul into agreeing with his ideals either with threats or solicitations. There is a parade for Hutu Power during the film, where George is seen dancing along others whom are all brandishing weapons. This scene is significant because it shows how blissful events such as parades can influence individuals to celebrate a cause that is questionable. Additionally, one important symptom of groupthink is the illusion of being invulnerable to the main dangers that might arise from a risky action in which the group is strongly tempted to engage (Barash 2014, 35). It seemed as though throughout the film the members of the militia felt invincible and did not believe action would be taken against them, as was often the case. The DS have continued to be the key factor to instilling discipline and standards in our new Soldiers. Over time, the Army has evaluated and made changes to the programs to ensure the best possible training is available for new recruits. The introduction of the advanced individual training (AIT) platoon sergeants was one of the most recent changes to the initial entry training (IET) program. The Army will continue to evaluate and assess the IET training program to assure training is still relevant to the needs of the Army. Late in 1962, Secretary of the Army Elvis J. Stahr Jr. directed Under Secretary of the Army Stephen Ailes to survey how the recruits are trained in the Army. The research was pooled from a wide variety of personnel and took a very longtime. This research also included other branches of service, comparing techniques and strategies to ensure they had the most accurate data available. The survey findings concluded the noncommissioned officers (NCOs) were poorly regarded working long hours, lack of free time for family concerns, and inadequate staffing. • 44. Brunelleschi s Dome Research Paper It took me awhile to find the right article, but after some research, I found Brunelleschi s Dome in National Geographic. The first question that I looked to answer was the motivation that led to the discovery of the dome. To paraphrase what I learned from the quoted article of National Geographic, there was a hole that was the sore sight of the cathedral in Florence. The name was Santa Maria . In order to cover up this eyesore, the leaders of the Catholic Church held a competition in which 200 gold florins were offered to the winner that could best cover up the hole. After listening to many contestants, the Church finally chose Filipo Brunelleschi. He was a young and irate genius, but he promised that he could build an inner and outer dome and eventually he did. There were several questions that had to be asked; among them were how to cover the whole and what techniques to use so that the dome would not collapse on itself. It was not a task that was done in a day or even a decade. From the time that Brunelleschi was little, he had tinkered around with gears and gadgets. Because of this tinkering around and his learning from being a gold smith and studying architecture, he used his knowledge of the past and came up with the idea of an inner and outer dome. It was supported by solid brick at the base and hoop ring support at the top.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... • 45. Hidden Truths of the Food Industry The hidden truths of the Food Industry It was our normal routine during the week, driving through the drive thru to get the kids a bite to eat. One day it could be Jack n the Box, another day it could be Mc Donald s or Carl s Jr, which ever fast food was voted on amongst my daughters is where we went. This past summer what seemed to be just another trip through the drive thru became a nightmare after eating hamburgers at our usual Carl s Jr. Not so long after we ate, my older daughter began with severe abdominal cramps, diarrhea, fever, chills, nausea and vomiting. I was immediately concerned and rushed her to the hospital to find out that she had food poisoning. There wasn t much the doctor could do other than tell her to drink a lot of ... They brought the factory system to the back of their restaurant, training employees to do just one thing. Kenner is effective in engaging his audience when he shows viewers an animation of animals coming into a farm house from an assembly line. Kenner was hoping that people would be alarmed with how our food is now be raised and produced. Take the Tyson Company who is the biggest meat packing company in the world. The food industry because of mass production has changed how a chicken is raised. Kenner provides a logical visual example showing his viewers that birds are being raised and slaughtered at half the time they were 50 years ago. The visual demonstration of redesigning the chicken to make the breast larger was meant to draw on his viewer s emotions as well as bringing a sense of urgency to the cause. Kenner went on to explain how farmers today don t own their birds, a company like Tyson owns them from the day they are dropped off until they are slaughtered . Kenner wants to come off authoritative and interviews Richard Lobb, from the National Chicken Council. Lobb provides sufficient information on how big companies like Tyson have taken over the industry. Lobb says, in a way we are not producing chickens, we are producing food (Food Inc.). He goes on to tell us, how the system is highly mechanized and all of the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 46. The Importance Of Puritan Values In American Society The Puritan values, constructed in the seventeenth century, originated from a movement to reform the Church of England. This particular movement still plays a vital role in the American society influencing the social, ethical, and theological ideas of modern day citizens. These ideas that were put forth were the starting point for the American culture offering new ideas of how to think and how to live. The writers and thinkers of John Winthrop, Arthur Miller, and Benjamin Franklin make it possible for people to study and apply these laws to their own lives hundreds of years after they were introduced. Even though not all tenets are practiced as strongly as others, the concepts of the value of hard work and a self reliant lifestyle still resonate in the hearts of many American individuals hundreds of years after the birth of this Puritanlifestyle. Although there many examples of America still following the values of a Puritan culture, the tenet in which America falls short is the practice of living a holy life: piety. The value and importance of piety is shown thorough Arthur Miller s The Crucible where a man named John Proctor goes from an honorable man to a shunned one when he is found guilty of adultery and not knowing his 10 holy commandments. After his actions were revealed, his name was blackened and he was no longer the respectable man the town once thought he was (Miller 1171, 1231). Today, Americans get divorces, indulge in premarital sex, cheat, steal, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 47. Theme, Themes In Stanley Yelnats Holes, By Louis Sachar Have you ever been accused of doing something you certainly didn t do? Have you ever had that feeling that no matter how good you are and how hard you try to not mess up things just turn out? Have you ever felt as if you were accident prone or if it was just pure bad luck?Well that s what Stanley Yelnats felt since that was what actually happened in the book Holesby Louis Sachar. There is a lot to this book, such as themes, characters, and quite a few different locations. The main theme of this story, Holes, is growing up because, in this book Stanley learns a lot; he has a lot of ambition, and he shows a ton of responsibility for his own actions, but also for others as well, whether it will get him into some trouble or not. Stanley learns... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... He takes this trait and uses it. He shows it often because in the book he learns that not all his unlucky events are due to his no good dirty rotten pig stealing great great grandfather s curse. Stanley shows responsibility for his own actions and at one point others actions. So, tell me Caveman, said Mr.Sir. How did my sack of sunflower seeds get in your hole? I stole it from your trunk, Stanley answered. (Sachar, 56) This quote was chosen because Stanley says that he took the seed but really he was just covering to make friends. Another example is when he tries to find Zero and attempts to steal Mr.Sir s truck. In the moment he gets caught he realized that it was his fault that he got caught and not his no good dirty rotten pig stealing great great grandfather s curse that had been set on the family. In conclusion this book represents the theme of growing up because the main character shows three of the characterististics of the theme I chose. These include learning, ambition, and responsibility. Stanley learns a ton while at Camp Green Lake. He also shows lots of ambition and displays many forms of responsibility. This book follows a great storyline, as well as one about how the camp used to be. The story also includes many characters with different personalities and could display way more than just one main ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
