A Brief History of African Music Through the Colonial Period
A Brief History of African Music through The Colonial Period
Music before the 20th century was very different when compared to the music of the 21st Century.
There were distinctive occasions for each type of African music. West African music, the African
Diaspora, and the music of the Colonies each had different musical instruments.
West African music was the music of the African people before the Europeans captured and sold
them into slavery in the Americas. It was unique in the manner in which it was played as well as
the reasons why it was played. West African music was documented around the 1600 s when
explorers wrote journals about what they had found while traveling.
Every West African village had its own professional... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
They were technically slaves but they weren t directly called slaves.
Black slaves were being taken away from their families and were not permitted to bring material
objects with them. In the Colonies, Africans weren t allowed to read, write, or learn anything
except for what their master taught them. Some Africans learned to play a musical instrument by
watching other white male musicians. Some became relatively famous. They had memories and
their culture of music to keep their minds off of their enslavement. Their music in Africa was
reflected in the new songs they sang as a release from the physical and mental cruelty of their new
slavery.
During the Colonial Era slaves were allowed to attend church Sundays. This brought
congregational singing into their lives. Black men and women had there own special pews and
they would chant one or two lines at a time ending on a definite pitch and then the congregation
would follow singing with the same line. This was called lining out which still lingers on in black
churches today. They learned to sing psalms by hearing them and then ach time they were sung, the
tune would change a little. Singing schools eventually started appearing so people could receive
correct singing . Organs were brought into churches. During the 1730 s a more upbeat singing
pattern came to the churches called Hymnody. They were religious poems rather then psalms which

Negative Effects Of Coming Out Gay
The Effects of Coming out Gay
Many negative stereotypes are the cause of homosexuals failing to come out the closet to their
friends, family and loved ones. There are also positive effects to coming out as well but the
negative opinions of some has triumphed across the nation during the last decade. Even though it
may seem that our country has come a long way and accepts homosexuals, we still have a long
way to go. Why do such stereotypes override the good effects of coming out gay? Coming out as a
homosexual improves the quality of life such as making the individual feel confident and happier
within. My own experience will serve as an example on how these things can reduce the
confidence level in someone that wants to be open to friends, family and loved ones.
No one wants to admit that they believe some of the stereotypes that get out regarding
homosexual men. However, it is reality that specific stereotypes regarding gay men has erupted
in our society and becoming more prevalent today than in the past. As I mentioned above, I am
going to take you through step by step when I came out the closet and the effect it had on my life
and my mental stability. One of the common stereotypes is Gay men are promiscuous . I guess it s
hard for some to understand that promiscuity doesn t just favor gay men. This type of stereotype
made me think of what society thought of me and prolonged me coming out. There are others that
state that Gay men are overly dramatic . These types of

The Pros And Cons Of Eight Ivy League Colleges
I personally believe that these basic high school requirements should be eliminated. The eight Ivy
league colleges are Harvard, Yale, Brown, Cornell, Columbia, Princeton. University of
Pennsylvania, and Dartmouth. Of these Ivy league colleges only one of them requires you to
actually have those basic high schoolrequirements to be accepted. That specific collegewould be
Brown University. Six of the other colleges recommend you to have these classes, and that is just
for a better academic standing on your part, but it is not a requirement. The last Ivy league
school, Yale, according to College Board has not released a required list of classes to be accepted,
or it is that they do not have any specific requirements. From this it can be assumed

Junk Food And Fast Food
There are a lot of health conscious people in the current generation and the fad of eating healthy
has over time turned into a regular diet for many. In contrast, there is a much larger part of the
population that lives regularly on fast food and junk food. In the event of the growth of the fast
food industry has been revolutionary due to its responsiveness to the growing diversity in
consumer tastes. The easy accessibility and low costs of fast foodwere what made them attractive
at first, furthermore the food itself satiated the ever hungry population. However, now it is
common knowledge to many that junk food and fast food is the main cause for obesity in
Americans. It has been a long discussed issue and agreed upon that processed food and junk food
had obesogenic elements. Consequently, many food organizations have set shop to make profits
out of their good will to enable people to consume healthier foods. The intense campaigning and
advertising to consume the healthier wholesome food has caused some ripples, causing many
people to shift to it. This has however not affected the consumption of fast food but only increased
the business of the organizations in the business of wholesome foods. The real truth is something
else altogether and unknown to a lot of people. The knowledge that all wholesome foods are much
healthier than processing foods is a misconception and is what is talked about by Freedman.
Should you completely cut off from having fast food or processed

Many successful companies utilize what is commonly known as best business practices, many
of which have clear Biblical origins (Leone, 2015). Principles like dealing fairly when you
buying or selling products or services, customer service and treating one another fairly, financial
principles, and protecting the earth all have foundations in the Bible. I believe that these were
foundational to how we ran our business and reflect what many shareholders require from
leaders and managers. CEOs are not only expected to achieve their financial goals but to earn
profits in an ethical and socially responsible manner. Shareholders are looking for corporate
leaders to act as good stewards and deliver faithful results (Leone, 2015). Leone (2015) goes on to
state that Companies that consistently follow and implement these practices are achieving superior
results. These were some of the core values and principles we used to build our business.
Original strategy
Overcoming the huge learning curve and gaining an understanding of glo bus and the number of
decisions that needed to be made encompassed much of our first year. Our company performed
satisfactorily, but we wanted to do better. We were behind our competition in sales and quality of
our product was questionable. Wages paid to employees were well below the average of our

A Reflection Of Human Thoughts Expressed Through Dreams
Literature is a reflection of human desires, imaginations and fears. Sigmund Freud said that
psychoanalysis is the investigation of human thoughts expressed through dreams. Freud s theories
consist of interpretations of dreams, how human nature consists of patterns set in our minds, and
how sexuality had a radical effect on art, specifically, literature. Tucker Max once said that, The
point of psychoanalysis is to really understand the roots of your behavior. Understand why you are
doing the things you re doing and connect your unconscious to your conscious. In the story, Peter
Pan, J.M Barrie explicitly expresses how a person s innermost desires and fears are mirrored
through their dreams and actions. This was shown through the... Show more content on

Secondly, Peter s hatred for parents was explained through, I thought like you that my mother
would always keep the window open for me, so I stayed away for moons and moons and moons,
and then flew back; but the window was barred, for mother had forgotten all about me, and there
was another little boy sleeping in my bed. The readers see here that Peter did go back just to see
that he had been replaced and forgotten. In the story, the author said that Neverland reflected Peter
s emotions, when he came back from London, everything in Neverland felt so happy again and
when he was fighting hook, the weather felt so heavy. Maybe, that is why the people from
Neverland forget the family they left behind, so then they won t be the only ones who remembers
their family when their family already moved on. Due to this experience, Peter became more
aggressive towards adults and that is why he keeps on killing the Captain of the Pirates, Hook and
the ones before him. Similarly, why he was lashing out on Wendy s mom when she suggested that
he stay with them. All of his anger and uncertainty came from him wanting to come home and
found out that his family forgotten about him. Lastly, Peter tries to convince himself that
everything that the adults stand for is complete and utter nonsense. But of course, he cared very
much; and he was

Wireless Ad Hoc Networks
Incorporating Data from Multiple Sensors for Localizing Nodes in Mobile Ad Hoc Networks,
IEEE TRANSACTION ON MOBILE COMPUTING
SUMMARY
Wireless Ad hoc Network are important emerging technology that is low cost, most effective.
Although a large amount of research has been done on mobile Ad hoc Network technology, yet
truly understanding these networks has been low and the implementation of these networks is very
less. This is because in some areas it is difficult to implement wireless networks as it is an
expensive process and implementing new algorithm and new protocols is difficult replacing all the
protocols that are currently used. Although the important fact is that these networks are not used to
its full capacity. Large amount of research is going on the Ad hoc networks and exploit these
networks in far more better way. Ad hoc network technology has many future applications. It can
be used widely used for military application, can be used for UAV s , for detecting of the
chemicals and materials underground. Ad hoc network localization problem can be defined as the
task for finding the estimates the physical location of the nodes know its exact location ( Gergely
V. Zaruba Rui Huang , September 2009, 1 ) . This research paper proposes the solution of the Ad
hoc network localization problem and proposes different algorithm that can provide better
localization accuracy and higher localization coverage. The paper revolves around the results

Barriers Of Oligopoly
2. Economic Theory
2.1Oligopoly
Oligopoly is a market structure in which a few firms dominate the market (Jocelyn Blink Ian
Dorton, 2012). The market may have a large number of firms or just a few, but the important idea
is that the industry s output is shared by a small number of firms. It is possible for oligopolistic
industries to differ, in the sense that some industries would produce the same kind of products,
where the product is practically the same and only the companies name is different. On the other
hand, there are also industries that produce completely different product and also ones that
produce products that are only a bit different from each other, but these firms do tend to spend
most of their budgets to advertise their products (Jocelyn Blink Ian Dorton, 2012). There are a few
main characterises of firms that operate as oligopolies these include:
1.Interdependence
2.Strategy
3.Barriers to entry o Natural barriers o Artificial barriers
When economists determine the competitiveness of market they usually look at the assumptions of
the different market structures. The same ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
These obstacles are known as barriers to entry. There are generally two types of barriers to entry
that exist, these are natural and artificial. Natural barriers can be exploited by the major firms and
the artificial barriers can be used belligerently to stop other firms from joining the market.
Natural Barriers to Entry:
Economies to Scale
Larger firms tend to have lower cost compared to smaller firms, due to the fact that they are able
to gain from economies of scale, but it is possible for larger firms to experience diseconomies of
scale. As firms increase their production scale they tend to lower their production cost and move to
the long run, this can be represented using the diagram

Analysis Of Slumdog Millionaire
Rising from the slums to become a millionaire is one in a million chance. Yet, Jamal, the main
character of Slumdog Millionaire, has raised his life from living in the slums to living the life a
millionaire. With their mother dying, Jamal and his brother started off in the slums living off
trash and garbage. From experience, Jamal was able to recall certain events and situations to help
him answer certain question on the Who wants to be a millionaire show. For example, Jamal was
able to answer the question, What does God Rama hold in his right hand? , by simply remembering
the time after his mother was killed and him and his brother, Salim, were being chased. (Thesis)
Not only did the plot of the movie made the movie interesting and amazing to watch, but the acting,
aging through camera transitions, and overall goal of Jamal to find Latika throughout conflicts
made Slumdog Millionaire a amazing movie.
The acting of Slumdog Millionaire seemed to be integrated into the environment and the setting
of the slums. With the use of real children from the slums, the movie seems to be very real as the
children seem to already fit the descriptions of being part of the slums. Living in India, I was
able to understand the conditions and lives of the people that lived around the slums. These
people are recognized by the majority of the public as being savages and uncivilized. The child
actors that played Jamal and Salim in the movie fit the description of being savages and uncivilized.
For example, Jamal jumped into the pile of poop from the outdoor bathroom to get to Amitabh
Bachchan to get his autograph. And as for Salim, Salim fit the description of being uncivilized
due to the fact he had no regards for other people s lives. A perfect example is when Salim was in
charge of all the other children in the child slave ring, Salim at one point took away a baby from
another girl to give it to Latika. In this scene, Latika didn t want to hold the baby but had to hold
the baby because Salim threaten to drop it. Overall, the acting of Slumdog Millionaire was amazing
because of many reasons. Reasons including the fact that the actors that played Jamal, Salim, and
Latika were real children from the slums of India which means

Multinational Organizations Have Cross Border Operations
A multinational is defined as a company operating in several countries , while multicultural is
defined as relating to or containing several cultural or ethnic groups within a society (Oxford
English Dictionary). Lundby Kraut (2010) explain that organizations can function in four stages of
globalization: multinational, international, transitioning to global and global (Kindle Location 553
554).
Multinational organizations have cross border operations that are primarily decentralized and
autonomous. Decentralized organizations give more authority to lower level employees giving
them a sense of empowerment. International organizations have a headquarters that retains some
decision making control but the organization is still largely decentralized. International companies
build one or a few facilities in another country, in trying to have a competitive edge and lower
costs, they become multinational when they build facilities in a number of different countries. An
example is the U.S. automakers facilities in Mexico for cheap labor and Eastern Europe for
manufacturing and assembly (Noe, Hollenbeck, Gerhart Wright, 2012).
Transitioning to global organizations are the ones that take concrete steps to develop worldwide
business strategies and policies. Global organizations develop strategies and policies on a
worldwide basis and share resources across borders. The key word here is share. Culture is defined
as patterns of doing and thinking that are passed on

Culture And Cultural Differences Between China And China
The country that i hope to one day teach in is China. throughout my research on the many cities
within the country it is clear that the need for a strong commitment to the development of cultural
understanding within the classroom context is in high demand and necessary. Every culture has its
values, morals customs and traditions and they should be respected as such. On the surface level,
cultural differences between westerners and the Chinese seem mostly visual. Food and eating
habits probably being the most popular when comparing the two, with food being such an important
part of our everyday life. To start, An obvious difference between the Chinaand western countries
about food is the utensils used to eat with. In China people favor the use of chopsticks, while in
the west a fork and knife are preferred. the Chinese usually eat communally and share their dishes
with others, while westerners typically enjoy individual servings. the most common staple foods
along with their preparation techniques also differ between China and the West. In western
dishes, fish dishes are served absolutely free of bones. In Chinese meals, fish are typically sold
whole and removing the bones while eating is regarded as a normal part of the meal process.
There is also the difference in style of dress, with China being the more conservative culture. Of
course this may slightly vary within larger cities that today are more modernized, but within the
history of the Chinese civilization,

Whether you have a chronic illness or are interested in eating well to prevent disease, the anti
inflammatory diet is gaining traction as a viable way to plan your meals in order to avoid
inflammation that can lead to heart disease, high blood pressure, painful joints, and other ailments.

Replace white flour products with those made from whole grains, and look for other ways to
incorporate whole grains into your diet. Protein should be limited to fish and lean chicken, with red
meat removed or severely restricted. Instead, focus on getting protein from beans, soybeans, and
nuts.
Eat low or reduced fat versions of dairy products rather than the full fat varieties, limiting dairy
consumption to high quality cheeses and yogurt made from natural ingredients. Soy also has anti
inflammatory properties, so consuming soy milk, tofu, and edamame can be beneficial. And don t
be afraid to add spices like cinnamon, ginger, curry, and others, which can prevent inflammation
and are a good way to add flavor to foods without fat.
Healthy sweets, such as plain dark chocolate, should be enjoyed sparingly, with other types of
sugary treats limited. One to two glasses a day of red wine are fine under this diet, but other
types of alcohol should be avoided. Also, consider drinking two to four cups of white, green, or
oolong tea each day.
If you are concerned about avoiding foods that cause inflammation, you should cut saturated fats
and trans fats from your diet. These harmful fats are primarily found in processed foods and meat.
Refined carbohydrates and white flour, such as that found in pasta and rice, also cause
inflammation. Instead, switch to whole grain

these concepts was, The Power Trios which displayed the musical capacities of many guitarists.
Most of them were given double duties by playing both the rhythm and lead roles. Just like any
other genre of rock and rollthe influence of the power trio came from Chicago blue bands and
specifically from the Muddy Waters trio. The second concept we talked about was Heavy Metal.
This style of music is strongly supported by drum and bass rhythms, which were developed in

Ecological Systems Theory By Urie Bronfenbrenner
Ecological Systems Theory The Ecological Systems Theory was founded by Urie Bronfenbrenner.
This theory focuses on the impact of the environment on a child s overall development. The
identifying characteristics of Bronfenbrenner s theory are the five systems used to organize external
influences within a child s development. These systems are the microsystem, mesosystem,
exosystem, macrosystem, and chronosystem. Each system is aligned with specific interaction
levels. The microsystem is considered to be the most intimate of the levels, in which development is
dependent on the immediate environment. The immediate environment would include adults,
peers, and siblings with influence to learning new behaviors and the environment in which the...

The Ecological Systems Theory applies to different aspects of the lifespan due to the ability to apply
the five systems continuously throughout the life span. The chronosystem can transition and
change within one s life. The macrosytem can align with infancy, this system setting examines the
culture of the individual. The exosystem can align with childhood into adolescent stages due to this
systems connection with forming healthy attachments. The mesosystem aligns with relationships
throughout life and peer interaction, this can take place in adolescence and continue throughout
adulthood and change based on experiences, in which the individuals Microsystem evolves (Wong,
Hall, Justice Hernandez, 2015, p. 32 33). There can be cultural, ethical, and legal concerns
associated with this theory are somewhat intertwined. The possible assumption that if a child is
born poor, of ethnic minority, raised in a violent setting, and neglected by parents foster care
placement may lead to disruption within the child s chronosystem. This can lead to attachment
issues related to trauma, increased fight or flight reactions that may lead to legal issues, academic
challenges, and poor social skills. There is a possible ripple effect from life events and
socioeconomic status that could lead to changes with behavior in association with the child s

The Theory And General Strain Theory
A theory is described, as an idea or set of ideas generally intended to explain, to prove facts or
events. Theory can be an idea that is suggested or presented as possibly true, that is not an ideas
that relates to a particular subject (Merriam Webster, 2015). Theory is an explanation of something.
Theories in criminal behavior explains why an individual commits criminal and delinquent acts.
This paper will compare and contrast two theories of crimeor criminal activities that was discuss in
this course.
The two theories identified are Strain theory and General strain theory. Strain theories are
indicated when certain strains or stressors are increased, there is a probability for a person to
commit a crime. According to Robert Merton, strain theory is a form of adaptive problem
solving behavior that is committed in response to problems involving frustrating and undesirable
social environments (Schmalleger, 2011). Strain results from an individual failure to achieve one
s goals, such as money, status/respect, autonomy, loss of a positive (death of a friend or love
one), and loss of value possession. Strain can be thought of as pressure that individuals feel to
reach socially determined goals (Agnew, 2015). A person who experience these strains become
upset, which they may turn to crime in an effort to cope. By doing so, crime may be an escape or
reduction for them to escape this feeling.

Because of this sacrifice he sees his violin as his main identity; he is a violinist, and he must
honor that at all costs. He can t allow himself to enjoy anything else in life for fear that he

the violin leaves him bereft of any time or desire to spend time with his wife and children, unless
it involves the violin, which ultimately causes them to reject him too. When Tian s own dream
dies he ruthlessly pushes music on his daughters in order to allow him to live vicariously

having a mediocre sense of pitch (54) and Tian can no longer stand to teach Anna the violin. Min

but he especially hated his own. (55); this immense self hatred, and lack of an identity outside of
the violin, causes him to viciously force Ruth to become a violinist. Despite her lack of interest
and the fact that she cries during every practice, Tian does not care as he sees promise in her. He

animated moment is when the boy s heart rushes towards his crush despite the boy s best efforts to
contain it and in slow motion brushes his crush s quaffed hair. The music also paces beautifully
with the animation design. It matches the delicacy of the animation and encapsulates the
excitement of a first love; the soundtrack also subtly switches modes to embody the anxiety that
accompanies the boy s excitement there is an undercurrent of urgency in the boy s repression as he
tries to navigate his blossoming

Example Of Syntactical Ambiguity
4. CLARITY. In order for our writing to be clear there are some common discursive elements that
the user must avoid. Some of those elements have relevance in writing but they would only confuse
the reader in smaller work. As the Style Guide for The Economist states: Clarity of writing usually
follows clarity of thought . Clarity conveys readers comprehending our message effortlessly; writing
properly involves successful communication.
Examples:
*The horse raced past the barn fell.
вњ“The horse which was raced past the barn fell. (Pinker, 2014) *As linguist Geoffrey Pullum has

4.3.2 SYNTACTICAL The syntactical ambiguity is when words can be interconnected into more

part, nearly, partially, predominantly, presumably, rather, relatively, seemingly, so to speak,
somewhat, sort of, to a certain degree, to some extent, and the ubiquitous I would argue (Pinker,

Essay on The Importance of Community
Community is very important and has many factors like kinship, unity, and identity. Community
helps society because it creates solutions, provides security and reveals dedication. It discovers
truthfulness. Communities are part of everyday life and have positive affects on its members.
Communities can be found everywhere and can be created anywhere. You may be unaware of it,
but you are part of a community not only based on your location, but also based on your lifestyle,
your religion, your heritage, your education, or your abilities. As Hewitt once said, Community
provides a psychological world and a place of identification for its members. Identifying yourself

Observing others behaviors lets one realize and understand more about different types and kinds of
people. Seeing how certain groups or communities act or react to situations lets us see more
perspective and hopefully appreciate their point of view. It is important to be part of communities
for much of the same reason. When you are part of a group, you understand and compromise with
the other members of the group. Discussing issues involving the community helps to lead to
solutions. Talking things through with other members improves social skills as well as
relationships. Knowing how people feel about certain issues let you know more about that person,
and in turn, you learn more about yourself. Hearing what other people have to say may sway your
own opinions about something. For example, maybe you are part of a church you thought you
really believed in, but hearing the discussions at the church meetings you start to think that you do
not belong in this community. Though that specific church may be the right place for many, you
learn that you need a new church community. Churches are communities because the members are
unified in their common beliefs. These communities are like families because the members support
and help each other religiously and they feel secure. Being a sound part of a community, you
should continuously learn more and more about yourself. As a member of a club, taking part in
meetings and activities let you learn

Roles Of Women In The Great Gatsby
Women in the Jazz Age Interpreted by Fitzgerald
Class143 14090311 Crystal Francis Scott Key Fitzgerald was an American novelist and short
story writer, whose works are paradigmatic writings of the Jazz Age, a period in the 1920s,
ending with the Great Depression. As Fitzgerald said, It was an age of miracles, it was an age of
art, it was an age of excess, and it was an age of satire. The First World War just ended. The
traditional moral code obeyed by Puritans, which calls for thrift and simplicity, has fallen apart. At
the same time, hedonism started prevailing in the whole country. Fitzgerald is also one of these

of depression to determine if they fall within the range of mild to severe. Forty nine volunteers

Since it is a topic that lately has been of hot debate on the news and articles found within the
internet, in the future I would spread this study to different ranges of groups such as adolescent
males, adult men and females and even children that are younger than adolescents because
depression is not found within just one specific age group. I would do this so the study can
highlight more of how exercise affects depression within a typical population. As well I would
split the participants of a future study into more than two groups, around possibly four in total.
By adding two more groups of different exercise intensities, this can help us predict if higher
levels of exercise intensity make a bigger difference or be less beneficial compared to the normal
physical exercise program that was conducted over a 8 week time frame originally. I would
continue to keep the control group in order to have it be used as a comparison. My big question
next would be, Are there any other variables that would be as or more helpful to combat depression

Requirement 3: According to FASB Codification 605 50 25 4, if the amount of future rebates or
refunds can be reasonably and reliably estimated, the expected redemption rate should be taken into
account when calculating the cost of sales incentives. Otherwise, a liability (or deferred revenue)
should be recognized for the maximum potential amount of the refund or rebate. In this case, CCPC
estimates that customers will redeem approximately 2 percent of the detergent coupons. We analyze
the dollar amount of the effect of the coupons in the following two scenarios:
| If there is sufficient evidence to support the 2% expected redemption rate| If there is NOT
sufficient evidence to support the 2% expected redemption rate| Accrual of the coupons| Coupons to

The Middle East On Social Media
The term don t judge a book by it s cover has so much meaning to it and since the dawn of time
our world as we know it is taken by labels that we live by today. My ethnicity alone has these very
labels that by nature have grown on one another. When one would talk about the middle east on
social media the first thing that comes to mind is the war and countless bloodshed that spilled and
the impact it had on many lives. All the stories distributed by social media display attacks and war
in the middle east, portray all middle easterners to be muslim, and only tell the tale of terrorists to
the public.
Social media is only showing people, very little stories about Middle Easterners. One of those
shameful stories is the tale of war, violence, and suffering. A few misconceptions people have is
that all Middle Eastern s are dangerous. This is due to social media and the tales being spread.
Anne Barnard says in her article for The New York Times, Lebanon has weathered waves of
political assassinations, street skirmishes and wars; Israeli airstrikes leveled whole apartment
blocks in 2006 . Anne Barnard may not realize it, but she is distributing one story about the
Lebanon, my home country. Which, is really a beautiful country with many small towns and tight
communities. Yes, there is the story of war and violence, but there is also a story of family and
culture. No one hears about the positive in the Middle East. The ungraceful representation of the
Middle East is embarrassing

How X-Rays Interact With Tissue
There are two major ways in which X rays interact with tissue. The first is the photoelectric effect,
where a photon uses all of its energy to eject an electron from an atom; that while the electron
moves around and ionizes neighboring atoms, there are no scatter photons. The second major effect
is the Compton scatter, where a photonhits an atom and ionizes an electronbut does not use all of
its energy. The photon then scatters in a different direction with slightly less energy, and the free
electron does damage to the body. Scattered photons can travel back towards the X raytube, pass
through the patient and hit the detector from any odd angle, or scatter again within the patient.
Every time a photon ejects an electron (ionizes an atom), it creates free radicals that can damage

Both of these effects result in decreasing energy deposition from the skin to the back of the
patient. In other words, much of the dose is deposited near the skin. This is why the deterministic
effects that are a large worry for doctors relate to skin injuries. Larger patients, who require higher
doses to penetrate through the larger body parts, are at higher risk of skin injuries. Therefore, it is
very important to understand the intensity of X rays to avoid serious consequences.
Below is an object irradiated by many X rays, with their intensity measured with a detector. The X
rays are passing through an object, and are strongly absorbed so that their intensity is low, while
other X rays are passing through less of the object, and are less strongly absorbed. This makes their
intensity much stronger and higher. This intensity is measured and recorded at the center of the
detector. In an effective manner, the object creates a shadow of the X rays, and from that, its basic
dimensions can be

Let Me Know You Essay
Let Me Know You
My work Let Me Know You is a performance: without the audiences knowing what is going to
happen, I sniff their body from toe to head like an animal, with no physical touching. The most of
audiences feel uncomfortable during the performance, others, try to sniff me back at the same time.
Humans are commonly known to have five primary senses: sight, hearing, taste, touching and smell,
governed by five important organs: eyes, ears, tongue, skin and nose. Smell is often ignored ,
though, it plays an important role in our daily life without people noticing it. The purpose of my
performance is to remind people to explore all their senses, be more aware of the surroundings and
their own body. I developed new respects on objects that we see daily, and grew more appreciations
of human nature.
Scent takes a much important position in animal s world. People who have pets often notice
that cats take long time to find biscuits near their face. It is because their sights are bad in short
distance, and they rely on nose to locate food; in the wild, big cats spray urine to make their
territory, average 300 square kilometers; in the water, a shark can sense one drop of blood in a
million drops of water; dogs smells each others anus at the first time they meet, they only shut
down their tails to hide their odour when they are scared or dominated. Human, instead, are trying
to conceal body odour as much as they can. Being smelly is seen as rude and insanitary. Shampoos

Kidney Failure Essay
Kidney Failure

The kidneys are important organs in your body to help filter waste. Sometimes organs may fail and
cause further problems within your body. There are treatments available for kidneyfailure including
dialysis and a kidney transplant. Both treatments do involve life changes and the patient must stay
healthy. It is important to learn about your body and learn the signs and symptoms of when
something goes wrong. The kidneys keep your body regulated by maintaining your fluid volume,
mineral composition, and acidity. This is done by excreting and reabsorbing water and electrolytes.

The other will allow the blood that is returning to back into the body. Treatments will last anywhere
from 2 ВЅ to 4 ВЅ hours. Your blood pressure will be check regularly. Your machine will be
adjusted to ensure that correct amounts are being removed from your body. You are allowed to
relax, read, watch television, do work, or even sleep. The other type of dialysis is called
peritoneal dialysis. This requires more work from the patient. The patient must maintain a clean
surface on the abdomen in order to help prevent infection. The patient will again weigh
themselves to determine the amount of fluid. Then the patient will wear a mask while cleaning
the catheter site. Fluid allowed to stay in the peritoneal cavity is drained back into a plastic bag.
The patient will then remove the bag and connect a new one. Once the fluid is in the body, the
new bag will be rolled up and placed on the patient s underwear until time for the next treatment.
This type of dialysis is more work, more intense, and is required much more. It is done four to
five times a day at about 30 minutes each time. There is alternative machine to this called a cycler.
It is used every night. Five to six bags are used and the machine will automatically change fluid
while the patient is sleeping. Dialysis can make things easier on the patient however it depends on
how much help your kidneys need as to which treatment you will need. Sometimes patients will
require an entire kidney

Aryballos Analysis
The two vases that are looked at in the analysis are VUW Classics 1950 A18 (A18) and VUW
Classics 1950 A8 (A8). The small size and spherical shape of A18 suggests that it is an aryballos,
the standard name for small rounded vases, that were often used to store perfume or oil (B. A.
Sparkes, 1991). The aryballoi shape was most common in Corinth, and while Athenian examples
also exist (University of Oxford, 2011a), the light colour of the clay suggests this particular
example is Corinthian. This one has no foot, a single handle and a narrow neck with a wide, flat
mouth that is suitable for pouring oil in small quantities. They were mostly worn as accessories by
young men like athletes (Neer, 2012). Although the neck and handle are broken... Show more

No red slip is used on the aryballos, which became fashionable when Attic wares dominated the
market during mid 6th century (Neer, 2012). The spherical aryballoi was most popular during
the Proto Corinthian, before the shape elongated (Encyclopædia Britannica, n.d a). The
patterned design on A18 is also in line with the tendencies of the Orientalising Period for heavy
patterns with little blank space. This dates A18 around c. 725 c. 600 bce. This cluttered
Orientalising style isn t present on A8. There is a larger focus on the scene being depicted as
opposed to creating patterns, a trend that became popular in the Mid Corinthian period (Neer,
2012). Evidence of cylinder Lekythoi has been dated as early as the late 6th century, but the shape
really became popular in the 5th century (University of Oxford, 2011b). A new technique of white
ground became popular on the lekythoi (Encyclopædia Britannica, n.d b), which A8 doesn t
exhibit. This evidence dates A8 around c. 540 c. 500

The Perception Of Visual Perception
Everyday our brain receive a big number of information from the environment around us. Eyes and
other sense organs, collects sensory inputs and transmits them to the brain. What is happening
next? The answer can be found in a process known as perception. But what is it exactly? Perception
is the mental activity of interpreting the impressions received through the senses of sight, hearing,
tasting, feeling and smelling (MacMillan and Powell, 1973). In other words, it is a process of
taking information about the environment and giving it meaning. How the brainattaches meaning to
the sensory information? The understanding of the mechanisms of this process was discussed
widely among philosophers in the past, but because of its complexity it is still a popular topic in
contemporary psychology. One of the most popular issue is visual perception. Some people say that
vision is our most dominant sense. Without direct contact, from the light that enters our eyes to the
complex cognitive processes that follow, we derive most of our information about what things are,
where they are, and how they move from our vision (Wade, Swanson 2013). The process of seeing
is directly connected with our brain by a light sensitive membrane in the back of the eye, called the
retina. The lens of the eye focuses light on the layer of cells in retina, subsequently light is
converted into neuronal signals, processed and sent to the primary and secondary visual cortex of
the brain. However, the image

(3) List the objectives of the pharmacokinetic study. What can we learn from studying drugs in the
selected population?
The objective of this pharmacokinetic study was to evaluate the pharmacokinetics of prucalopride
in individuals with renal impairment. By studying drugs in patients with renal impairment, a greater
understanding of the effect of decreased drug renal clearance on drug doses can be made. This is
particularly important in the current aging population, whereby decreased renal function is a natural
consequent of old age, as is the increased prevalence of constipation associated with drug treatments
and lifestyle changes. Considering 60% of prucalopride is excreted unchanged in urine, renal
excretion is one of the most important routes of elimination for prucalopride. This further validates
the importance of this study in the selected population.
Although prucalopride is not currently approved for use in men, this pharmacokinetic study
involved both men and women. This enables results of the study to be applicable for potential
future use in men.

Article Analysis Of Camille Paglia s On Date Rape
On Date Rape is an article written by Camille Raglia, which argues the young women of today pay
not much attention about their safety while they re enjoying the freedom they deserve. (Paglia)
According to the author of this article, who also is a humanities professor and a cultural critic, a
woman should pay more attention to their safety while they pursuit the freedom as man does.
Because a woman is likely become a victimin a rapecase. In this article, the author also implies
that even the law should protect women from the rape, but women themselves still should build
up a self protection awareness to keep them away from the rape crime. (Paglia) However, even
this article points out a main argument about self protection awareness is necessary for a woman,
but some of its point didn t support the main argument of this article. In additional, the focus of my
article is about to analysis the article of Camille Paglia, On Date Rape. Also, I ll point out some
misconceptions about her work.
The first point I recognized in Paglia s article is the third paragraph of the article, which explains
that because of the young feminists come from a white, middle class world, so that they expect

Anna Quindlen The Name Is Mine Analysis
Summary and respond to The Name is Mine
In the article The Name Is Mine (1998),Anna Quindlen tells the reason why she doesn t change
her name after getting married. She claims that she doesn t change her last name because this
name belongs to her and she is not part of her husband, not because of rational reasons. Initially,
she thought she made a good personal choice, but she didn t consider group relationships. For
example, when her child ask her why her name is different with her family, Quindlen feels that she
is not part of her family. She also realized that those women who changed their name are also
independent because they made their own choice. Now Quindlen feels that she is able to
understand the negative consequence of her ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
It is a normal phenomenon that people will be affected by various reasons when they decide to
make a choice. Unfortunately, this situation looks like more common in females, especially in
young females. For example, some girls that graduated from high school want to choose math or
physics as their college major while their parent force them choose education or art as their
major, even as their job in future. At least half of girls would follow their parents decisions
because it is generally. One mother would follow her child s demanding; one wife would agree
her husband s points; one daughter would listen to parents. However, an individual should make
decisions for herself even it is a simple thing such as her name, what she will eat today or what
her job is. Like Quindlen said that women did their choices about themselves as individuals and
they do what they want to do is good decisions.(2016).This means that regardless of whether the
decision looks good or bad, they make decision for themselves, which would be a good decision.
To summarize, don t let others choose your life and choose something for you, to make decision for

The Second Treatise Of Government By Locke
One of Locke s most influential writings was his Second Treatise of Government . In this essay,
Locke discusses his ideal version of government, in which a social contract is exchanged between
the subjects and the government in power. In discussing this social contract, Locke provides a
distinction between express consentand tacit consent. In our discussion today, much of our time
will be spent discussing tacit consent. For our purposes, we will define tacit consent as a
nonverbal, implied, voluntary act of permission or agreement. In Locke s Second Treatise of
Government, he asserts that all individuals are equal and independent, so thus no one is superior
over another. In governments though, there is a fundamental hierarchical nature in which there are
leaders, who are superior, than say, the subjects. In order to fix this problem, Locke introduces the
concept of Tacit Consent. Locke sums up tacit consent by saying And to this I say, that every man,
that hath any possessions, or enjoyment, of any part of the dominions of any government, cloth
thereby give his tacit consent, and is as far forth obliged to obedience to the laws of that
government, during such enjoyment, as any one under it; Basically, if an individual is benefitting
from resources given to them by the government, then they have tacitly consented to also accept the
burdens of that government and follow the laws set forth by that government. So, have we as a
nation, provided tacit consent to the US

Jonah
Jonah is one of the most interesting stories in the Old Testament. In this paper, I will summarize
the story of Jonah, and determine if this story is literal or not. Towards the end of this paper, I will
give my final thoughts about Jonah. According to chapter one, the Lord spoke to Jonah and
instructed him to preach in the city of Nineveh. Jonahdid not want to go Nineveh so he decided
that he wanted to run away from God. While Jonah was on his way to Tarshish, God sent a great
wind on the sea and it threatened the safety of the passengers on the ship. Out of desperation, the
sailors on the ship cried out to their gods, and they threw the cargo off the ship in an effort to
stop the ship from sinking. During all of this distress, Jonah had gone below the deck, and he fell
asleep. When the captain discovered Jonah below the deck, he criticized Jonah for not calling on
his god. In Jonah s response, he stated that the Lord made the sea and the dry land. Jonah s
statement frightened the ship s crew, and they realized that God created the storm to punish Jonah
for disobeying him. The bible tells the readers that Jonah told the crew that... Show more content on

First of all, Jonah and the Giant Fish is one of the most unbelievable stories in the bible due to
the fact that it is impossible for a man to survive in the belly of fish. The bible is filled with
allegories and the story of Jonah is one of those allegories. Although the story of Jonah is
fictional, the meaning of the story is still relevant, even in this decade. Jonah was a very,
judgmental person, and he almost allowed his judgments to stop him from doing the will of the
Lord. There are a lot of people who act like Jonah and it s actually sad. Religion is supposed to be
a good thing, but some people use it to judge others. The story of Jonah teaches the readers that it is
important to humble yourself and help others, whether you agree with their lifestyle or

A Study On Becoming A Librarian
Introduction
There is more than one type of librarian and they play many roles this day and age. They were
once thought of as being the keeper of knowledge and were the go to persons for any and
everything. Some specialize in areas of interest such as cataloging, allocation, archives, and even
special collections. While others, depending on what type of library they work in conduct all of the
above job functions and more. With the advancement of technology and its forever growing
spear, librarians are being expected to know how no matter the size of the duty or request.
Applying for employment in the field is limited and can be a rough job in itself. Either way, it
depends on personal interest or whether a career is being sought versus ... Show more content on

263). How much technology should a librarian be able to understand and implement in their daily
duties? Is learning the basics of technology enough or should librarians have extensive training
and knowledge in the advancement of technology as well as becoming involved with its ever
increasing span? These are just a few of the examples of what is being sought after from librarians
when being considered for positions. A librarian should have a holistic approach to working within
the field and become forever students of learning the newest technology. This, in fact, will allow
them to become more marketable when seeking employment in various venues of the library world.
Training and Education
Whether it is a public librarian, academic librarian, a law librarian, a librarian working in the
business field, or a medical librarian, it is the norm for librarians to understand the dynamics of
technology. Not only are librarians required to have knowledge of the newest technology, they are
also being required to be able to use it. Sometimes there is a gap in what is being taught to future
librarians in their school programs and what is being required of them within the job sector. In
order to sustain as a competitor within the workforce, librarians need to be prepared to reach
beyond the classroom guidance along with teaching and seek outside resources for further

The American Prohibition of Alcohol in the 1920 s Essay
The American Prohibition of Alcohol in the 1920 s
The prohibition of alcohol in the United States lasted from 1920 until 1932. The movement began
in the late nineteenth century, and was fueled by the formation of the Anti Saloon League in 1893
(Why Prohibition?). This league and other anti alcohol organizations, began to succeed in
establishing local prohibition laws. By the 1920 s prohibition was a national effort.
The prohibition movement was aimed primarily at closing saloons. Saloons were the brewing
companies place in retail business, selling alcohol by the glass. In the early twentieth century, there
was one saloon for every one hundred fifty or two hundred Americans. This competitiveness forced
saloon keepers to find ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The other way to get alcohol was in speakeasies; underground saloons. Oftentimes the bartenders
at speakeasies would not actually mix drinks, but only supply glasses and ice. The only real skill
involved with being a bartender was the ability to remain calm during police raids. Some
considered the bartenders at speakeasies to be cheapening the profession (Cocktail). Still, many of
these establishments are still open, and boast of their activity during Prohibition. There are more
than fifteen bars currently open in Chicago that operated as speakeasies in the 1920 s and use that
fact as an advertisement.
The speakeasies were supplied illegally by gangsters, most notably; Al Capone in Chicago.
Capone spent over $75 million bribing police and politicians in Chicago, but within two years
was earing $60 million a year through the sale of alcohol. Other activities were earning him an
extra $45 million a year. The money that could be made from selling alcohol illegally led to
gang wars, and over 200 gangsters were killed in Chicago in just four years. Bill Thomson,
elected mayor of Chicago 1927, was one of the men Capone bribed. Upon election, Thomson
boasted that he would reopen speakeasies that had been shut down, and allow more to be opened
(Beitrag).
This utter disregard for the law, even by men in such high positions, leads to the overall conclusion
that prohibition was a failure. Although consumption of alcohol is estimated to have

How Social Control Theory Affects Criminal Behavior
How Social Control Theory and Life Course Theory effect criminal behavior Mason Campbell
Barge 900259391 University of North Georgia Criminology 11/17/14 How Social Control
Theory and Life Course Theory effect criminal behavior Social control theory and life course
theory focus on people s lives and how they interact with one another. The basic idea of the life
course theory is that people s life experiences, both good and bad, determine what kind of person
that they will be later in life. This does not mean that just because a person who had a good
childhood, lived in a wealthy home, and had good parents, will continue to be a good person.
The same can be said for people who had a bad childhood. Children who got in fights and
disrespected authority figures may not continue to do that later on in life. A life course theorist
would say this is because there are turning points in these people s lives that they go through.
These turning points cause a person to change their current life course (Siegel, 2013, p. 305). For
example a teenage boy who, regularly attends school, stays active in his community, and has good
grades, decides to celebrate his success by smoking marijuana and drinking alcohol with some
friends. The police show up and arrest the young man for drug possession and underage drinking.
Now the young man has a criminal record and waste some of his time in jail. He loses his
scholarships, the trust of his community, and the respect of his parents. This

Ode To A Nightingale Essay
Ode to a Nightingale
In Ode to a Nightingale, John Keats, the author and narrator, used descript terminology to express
the deep rooted pain he was suffering during his battle with tuberculosis. This poem has eight
paragraphs or verses of ten lines each and doesn t follow any specific rhyme scheme. In the first
paragraph, Keats gave away the mood of the whole poem with his metaphors for his emotional and
physical sufferings, for example: My heart aches, and drowsy numbness pains
My sense (1 2) Keats then went on to explain to the reader that he was speaking to the light winged
Dryad in the poem.
This bird symbolizes a Nightingale that to many, depicts the happiness and vibrance of life with the
way it seems to gracefully hover over ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
He expresses that with the phrase:
And with thee fade away into the forest dim (20) Keats explained that he had wanted to wander
off into the forest so no one would ve had to be bothered by him. In paragraph four, Keats had
spoken to the Nightingale and told it to go off and leave him alone because he already had
known that death was coming and didn t want to be reminded of his sad fate. Keats went on to
say: I cannot see what flowers are at my feet, Nor what soft incense hangs upon the boughs, But, in
embalmed darkness... (41 43) This meant he didn t know what was about to happen, only that he
was going to die. He then illustrated all the creatures and things that would live long past him; The
grass, the thicket, and the fruit tree wild... (45)
In paragraph six, Keats had listened to the Darkling or Nightingale singing and this had reminded
him of how at one time in his life he questioned death and was even infatuated by it because death
was an unknown universe when he composed: ...for many a time I have been half in love with
easeful
Death, Call d him soft names... (51 53) But quickly after he had recalled that memory he stated:
Still wouldst thou sing, and I have ears in vain To thy high requiem become a sod. (59 60)
Here he was saying how the Darkling sounded beautiful when it sang but that was just a mask for
the fate that it was taking him to; death. Thou was not born for death, immortal Bird! (61) The

Puerto City Market History
Ponce City Market is a new development including retail, residential and commercial space that
repurposes the historic Sears Roebuck and Company building in the Old Fourth Ward district of
Atlanta.
The site has been in public use at least back to the 1860 s when it was a popular day trip for
Atlantans who wished to visit Ponce de Leon Springs for their reputed health benefits. The springs
on the site were named by Atlanta physician, Dr. Henry L. Wilson, for Juan Ponce de Leon, of
Fountain of Youth fame, and it is from these springs, rather than the Spanish explorer, that Ponce de
Leon Avenue takes its name. Over time additional attractions were built at the site to capitalize on
the popularity of the springs and in 1903 the construction of a true amusement park was begun.
Ponce de Leon Park remained a local attraction through the early 1920 s.
In 1924, the park now closed, Sears Roebuck and Company chose the site for their Southeastern
headquarters and began work on the current structure, completing the first phase in 1926. The
building is one of the largest in the South and is located on a sixteen acre site facing Ponce de
Leon Avenue. Sears closed their retail store on the site after more than fifty years but maintained
the building as a regional office until 1987.
Several years after Sears final departure, the City of Atlanta bought ... Show more content on

  • 2. A Brief History of African Music Through the Colonial Period A Brief History of African Music through The Colonial Period Music before the 20th century was very different when compared to the music of the 21st Century. There were distinctive occasions for each type of African music. West African music, the African Diaspora, and the music of the Colonies each had different musical instruments. West African music was the music of the African people before the Europeans captured and sold them into slavery in the Americas. It was unique in the manner in which it was played as well as the reasons why it was played. West African music was documented around the 1600 s when explorers wrote journals about what they had found while traveling. Every West African village had its own professional... Black slaves were being taken away from their families and were not permitted to bring material objects with them. In the Colonies, Africans weren t allowed to read, write, or learn anything except for what their master taught them. Some Africans learned to play a musical instrument by watching other white male musicians. Some became relatively famous. They had memories and their culture of music to keep their minds off of their enslavement. Their music in Africa was reflected in the new songs they sang as a release from the physical and mental cruelty of their new slavery. During the Colonial Era slaves were allowed to attend church Sundays. This brought congregational singing into their lives. Black men and women had there own special pews and they would chant one or two lines at a time ending on a definite pitch and then the congregation would follow singing with the same line. This was called lining out which still lingers on in black churches today. They learned to sing psalms by hearing them and then ach time they were sung, the tune would change a little. Singing schools eventually started appearing so people could receive correct singing . Organs were brought into churches. During the 1730 s a more upbeat singing pattern came to the churches called Hymnody. They were religious poems rather then psalms which ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Negative Effects Of Coming Out Gay The Effects of Coming out Gay Many negative stereotypes are the cause of homosexuals failing to come out the closet to their friends, family and loved ones. There are also positive effects to coming out as well but the negative opinions of some has triumphed across the nation during the last decade. Even though it may seem that our country has come a long way and accepts homosexuals, we still have a long way to go. Why do such stereotypes override the good effects of coming out gay? Coming out as a homosexual improves the quality of life such as making the individual feel confident and happier within. My own experience will serve as an example on how these things can reduce the confidence level in someone that wants to be open to friends, family and loved ones. No one wants to admit that they believe some of the stereotypes that get out regarding homosexual men. However, it is reality that specific stereotypes regarding gay men has erupted in our society and becoming more prevalent today than in the past. As I mentioned above, I am going to take you through step by step when I came out the closet and the effect it had on my life and my mental stability. One of the common stereotypes is Gay men are promiscuous . I guess it s hard for some to understand that promiscuity doesn t just favor gay men. This type of stereotype made me think of what society thought of me and prolonged me coming out. There are others that state that Gay men are overly dramatic . These types of ... In contrast, there is a much larger part of the population that lives regularly on fast food and junk food. In the event of the growth of the fast food industry has been revolutionary due to its responsiveness to the growing diversity in consumer tastes. The easy accessibility and low costs of fast foodwere what made them attractive at first, furthermore the food itself satiated the ever hungry population. However, now it is common knowledge to many that junk food and fast food is the main cause for obesity in Americans. It has been a long discussed issue and agreed upon that processed food and junk food had obesogenic elements. Consequently, many food organizations have set shop to make profits out of their good will to enable people to consume healthier foods. The intense campaigning and advertising to consume the healthier wholesome food has caused some ripples, causing many people to shift to it. This has however not affected the consumption of fast food but only increased the business of the organizations in the business of wholesome foods. The real truth is something else altogether and unknown to a lot of people. Tucker Max once said that, The point of psychoanalysis is to really understand the roots of your behavior. Wireless Ad Hoc Networks Incorporating Data from Multiple Sensors for Localizing Nodes in Mobile Ad Hoc Networks, IEEE TRANSACTION ON MOBILE COMPUTING SUMMARY Wireless Ad hoc Network are important emerging technology that is low cost, most effective. Although a large amount of research has been done on mobile Ad hoc Network technology, yet truly understanding these networks has been low and the implementation of these networks is very less. This is because in some areas it is difficult to implement wireless networks as it is an expensive process and implementing new algorithm and new protocols is difficult replacing all the protocols that are currently used. Although the important fact is that these networks are not used to its full capacity. Large amount of research is going on the Ad hoc networks and exploit these networks in far more better way. Ad hoc network technology has many future applications. It can be used widely used for military application, can be used for UAV s , for detecting of the chemicals and materials underground. Ad hoc network localization problem can be defined as the task for finding the estimates the physical location of the nodes know its exact location ( Gergely V. • 9. Barriers Of Oligopoly 2. Economic Theory 2.1Oligopoly Oligopoly is a market structure in which a few firms dominate the market (Jocelyn Blink Ian Dorton, 2012). The market may have a large number of firms or just a few, but the important idea is that the industry s output is shared by a small number of firms. It is possible for oligopolistic industries to differ, in the sense that some industries would produce the same kind of products, where the product is practically the same and only the companies name is different. On the other hand, there are also industries that produce completely different product and also ones that produce products that are only a bit different from each other, but these firms do tend to spend most of their budgets to advertise their products (Jocelyn Blink Ian Dorton, 2012). • 10. Analysis Of Slumdog Millionaire Rising from the slums to become a millionaire is one in a million chance. Yet, Jamal, the main character of Slumdog Millionaire, has raised his life from living in the slums to living the life a millionaire. With their mother dying, Jamal and his brother started off in the slums living off trash and garbage. From experience, Jamal was able to recall certain events and situations to help him answer certain question on the Who wants to be a millionaire show. For example, Jamal was able to answer the question, What does God Rama hold in his right hand? , by simply remembering the time after his mother was killed and him and his brother, Salim, were being chased. (Thesis) Not only did the plot of the movie made the movie interesting and amazing to watch, but the acting, aging through camera transitions, and overall goal of Jamal to find Latika throughout conflicts made Slumdog Millionaire a amazing movie. The acting of Slumdog Millionaire seemed to be integrated into the environment and the setting of the slums. With the use of real children from the slums, the movie seems to be very real as the children seem to already fit the descriptions of being part of the slums. Living in India, I was able to understand the conditions and lives of the people that lived around the slums. These people are recognized by the majority of the public as being savages and uncivilized. The child actors that played Jamal and Salim in the movie fit the description of being savages and uncivilized. For example, Jamal jumped into the pile of poop from the outdoor bathroom to get to Amitabh Bachchan to get his autograph. And as for Salim, Salim fit the description of being uncivilized due to the fact he had no regards for other people s lives. A perfect example is when Salim was in charge of all the other children in the child slave ring, Salim at one point took away a baby from another girl to give it to Latika. In this scene, Latika didn t want to hold the baby but had to hold the baby because Salim threaten to drop it. Overall, the acting of Slumdog Millionaire was amazing because of many reasons. Reasons including the fact that the actors that played Jamal, Salim, and Latika were real children from the slums of India which means ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 11. Multinational Organizations Have Cross Border Operations A multinational is defined as a company operating in several countries , while multicultural is defined as relating to or containing several cultural or ethnic groups within a society (Oxford English Dictionary). Lundby Kraut (2010) explain that organizations can function in four stages of globalization: multinational, international, transitioning to global and global (Kindle Location 553 554). Multinational organizations have cross border operations that are primarily decentralized and autonomous. Decentralized organizations give more authority to lower level employees giving them a sense of empowerment. International organizations have a headquarters that retains some decision making control but the organization is still largely decentralized. International companies build one or a few facilities in another country, in trying to have a competitive edge and lower costs, they become multinational when they build facilities in a number of different countries. An example is the U.S. automakers facilities in Mexico for cheap labor and Eastern Europe for manufacturing and assembly (Noe, Hollenbeck, Gerhart Wright, 2012). Transitioning to global organizations are the ones that take concrete steps to develop worldwide business strategies and policies. Global organizations develop strategies and policies on a worldwide basis and share resources across borders. The key word here is share. Every culture has its values, morals customs and traditions and they should be respected as such. On the surface level, cultural differences between westerners and the Chinese seem mostly visual. Food and eating habits probably being the most popular when comparing the two, with food being such an important part of our everyday life. To start, An obvious difference between the Chinaand western countries about food is the utensils used to eat with. In China people favor the use of chopsticks, while in the west a fork and knife are preferred. the Chinese usually eat communally and share their dishes with others, while westerners typically enjoy individual servings. the most common staple foods along with their preparation techniques also differ between China and the West. In western dishes, fish dishes are served absolutely free of bones. In Chinese meals, fish are typically sold whole and removing the bones while eating is regarded as a normal part of the meal process. Theories in criminal behavior explains why an individual commits criminal and delinquent acts. This paper will compare and contrast two theories of crimeor criminal activities that was discuss in this course. The two theories identified are Strain theory and General strain theory. Strain theories are indicated when certain strains or stressors are increased, there is a probability for a person to commit a crime. According to Robert Merton, strain theory is a form of adaptive problem solving behavior that is committed in response to problems involving frustrating and undesirable social environments (Schmalleger, 2011). Strain results from an individual failure to achieve one s goals, such as money, status/respect, autonomy, loss of a positive (death of a friend or love one), and loss of value possession. Strain can be thought of as pressure that individuals feel to reach socially determined goals (Agnew, 2015). A person who experience these strains become upset, which they may turn to crime in an effort to cope. By doing so, crime may be an escape or reduction for them to escape this feeling. You may be unaware of it, but you are part of a community not only based on your location, but also based on your lifestyle, your religion, your heritage, your education, or your abilities. Seeing how certain groups or communities act or react to situations lets us see more perspective and hopefully appreciate their point of view. It is important to be part of communities for much of the same reason. When you are part of a group, you understand and compromise with the other members of the group. Discussing issues involving the community helps to lead to solutions. Talking things through with other members improves social skills as well as relationships. Knowing how people feel about certain issues let you know more about that person, and in turn, you learn more about yourself. Hearing what other people have to say may sway your own opinions about something. For example, maybe you are part of a church you thought you really believed in, but hearing the discussions at the church meetings you start to think that you do not belong in this community. Though that specific church may be the right place for many, you learn that you need a new church community. Churches are communities because the members are unified in their common beliefs. These communities are like families because the members support and help each other religiously and they feel secure. As well I would split the participants of a future study into more than two groups, around possibly four in total. By adding two more groups of different exercise intensities, this can help us predict if higher levels of exercise intensity make a bigger difference or be less beneficial compared to the normal physical exercise program that was conducted over a 8 week time frame originally. The first is the photoelectric effect, where a photon uses all of its energy to eject an electron from an atom; that while the electron moves around and ionizes neighboring atoms, there are no scatter photons. The second major effect is the Compton scatter, where a photonhits an atom and ionizes an electronbut does not use all of its energy. The photon then scatters in a different direction with slightly less energy, and the free electron does damage to the body. Scattered photons can travel back towards the X raytube, pass through the patient and hit the detector from any odd angle, or scatter again within the patient. Every time a photon ejects an electron (ionizes an atom), it creates free radicals that can damage DNA in the... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Therefore, it is very important to understand the intensity of X rays to avoid serious consequences. Below is an object irradiated by many X rays, with their intensity measured with a detector. The X rays are passing through an object, and are strongly absorbed so that their intensity is low, while other X rays are passing through less of the object, and are less strongly absorbed. This makes their intensity much stronger and higher. This intensity is measured and recorded at the center of the detector. Eyes and other sense organs, collects sensory inputs and transmits them to the brain. What is happening next? The answer can be found in a process known as perception. But what is it exactly? Perception is the mental activity of interpreting the impressions received through the senses of sight, hearing, tasting, feeling and smelling (MacMillan and Powell, 1973). In other words, it is a process of taking information about the environment and giving it meaning. How the brainattaches meaning to the sensory information? The understanding of the mechanisms of this process was discussed widely among philosophers in the past, but because of its complexity it is still a popular topic in contemporary psychology. One of the most popular issue is visual perception. Some people say that vision is our most dominant sense. Without direct contact, from the light that enters our eyes to the complex cognitive processes that follow, we derive most of our information about what things are, where they are, and how they move from our vision (Wade, Swanson 2013). The process of seeing is directly connected with our brain by a light sensitive membrane in the back of the eye, called the retina. The lens of the eye focuses light on the layer of cells in retina, subsequently light is converted into neuronal signals, processed and sent to the primary and secondary visual cortex of the brain. (3) List the objectives of the pharmacokinetic study. What can we learn from studying drugs in the selected population? The objective of this pharmacokinetic study was to evaluate the pharmacokinetics of prucalopride in individuals with renal impairment. By studying drugs in patients with renal impairment, a greater understanding of the effect of decreased drug renal clearance on drug doses can be made. This is particularly important in the current aging population, whereby decreased renal function is a natural consequent of old age, as is the increased prevalence of constipation associated with drug treatments and lifestyle changes. Considering 60% of prucalopride is excreted unchanged in urine, renal excretion is one of the most important routes of elimination for prucalopride. Article Analysis Of Camille Paglia s On Date Rape On Date Rape is an article written by Camille Raglia, which argues the young women of today pay not much attention about their safety while they re enjoying the freedom they deserve. (Paglia) According to the author of this article, who also is a humanities professor and a cultural critic, a woman should pay more attention to their safety while they pursuit the freedom as man does. Because a woman is likely become a victimin a rapecase. In this article, the author also implies that even the law should protect women from the rape, but women themselves still should build up a self protection awareness to keep them away from the rape crime. (Paglia) However, even this article points out a main argument about self protection awareness is necessary for a woman, but some of its point didn t support the main argument of this article. In additional, the focus of my article is about to analysis the article of Camille Paglia, On Date Rape. Also, I ll point out some misconceptions about her work. The first point I recognized in Paglia s article is the third paragraph of the article, which explains that because of the young feminists come from a white, middle class world, so that they expect everything should be safe as they think. On the other side, because the black or Hispanic women grow up in a different environment, where full of sexual culture, therefore they will pay more attention of their safety (Paglia). She claims that she doesn t change her last name because this name belongs to her and she is not part of her husband, not because of rational reasons. Initially, she thought she made a good personal choice, but she didn t consider group relationships. For example, when her child ask her why her name is different with her family, Quindlen feels that she is not part of her family. It is a normal phenomenon that people will be affected by various reasons when they decide to make a choice. Unfortunately, this situation looks like more common in females, especially in young females. For example, some girls that graduated from high school want to choose math or physics as their college major while their parent force them choose education or art as their major, even as their job in future. At least half of girls would follow their parents decisions because it is generally. One mother would follow her child s demanding; one wife would agree her husband s points; one daughter would listen to parents. However, an individual should make decisions for herself even it is a simple thing such as her name, what she will eat today or what her job is. Like Quindlen said that women did their choices about themselves as individuals and they do what they want to do is good decisions.(2016).This means that regardless of whether the decision looks good or bad, they make decision for themselves, which would be a good decision. • 45. The Second Treatise Of Government By Locke One of Locke s most influential writings was his Second Treatise of Government . In this essay, Locke discusses his ideal version of government, in which a social contract is exchanged between the subjects and the government in power. In discussing this social contract, Locke provides a distinction between express consentand tacit consent. In our discussion today, much of our time will be spent discussing tacit consent. For our purposes, we will define tacit consent as a nonverbal, implied, voluntary act of permission or agreement. In Locke s Second Treatise of Government, he asserts that all individuals are equal and independent, so thus no one is superior over another. In governments though, there is a fundamental hierarchical nature in which there are leaders, who are superior, than say, the subjects. In order to fix this problem, Locke introduces the concept of Tacit Consent. Locke sums up tacit consent by saying And to this I say, that every man, that hath any possessions, or enjoyment, of any part of the dominions of any government, cloth thereby give his tacit consent, and is as far forth obliged to obedience to the laws of that government, during such enjoyment, as any one under it; Basically, if an individual is benefitting from resources given to them by the government, then they have tacitly consented to also accept the burdens of that government and follow the laws set forth by that government. • 46. Jonah Jonah is one of the most interesting stories in the Old Testament. In this paper, I will summarize the story of Jonah, and determine if this story is literal or not. Towards the end of this paper, I will give my final thoughts about Jonah. According to chapter one, the Lord spoke to Jonah and instructed him to preach in the city of Nineveh. Jonahdid not want to go Nineveh so he decided that he wanted to run away from God. While Jonah was on his way to Tarshish, God sent a great wind on the sea and it threatened the safety of the passengers on the ship. Out of desperation, the sailors on the ship cried out to their gods, and they threw the cargo off the ship in an effort to stop the ship from sinking. During all of this distress, Jonah had gone below the deck, and he fell asleep. When the captain discovered Jonah below the deck, he criticized Jonah for not calling on his god. In Jonah s response, he stated that the Lord made the sea and the dry land. Jonah s statement frightened the ship s crew, and they realized that God created the storm to punish Jonah for disobeying him. The bible tells the readers that Jonah told the crew that... Jonah was a very, judgmental person, and he almost allowed his judgments to stop him from doing the will of the Lord. There are a lot of people who act like Jonah and it s actually sad. The movement began in the late nineteenth century, and was fueled by the formation of the Anti Saloon League in 1893 (Why Prohibition?). Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The other way to get alcohol was in speakeasies; underground saloons. Oftentimes the bartenders at speakeasies would not actually mix drinks, but only supply glasses and ice. The only real skill involved with being a bartender was the ability to remain calm during police raids. Some considered the bartenders at speakeasies to be cheapening the profession (Cocktail). Still, many of these establishments are still open, and boast of their activity during Prohibition. There are more than fifteen bars currently open in Chicago that operated as speakeasies in the 1920 s and use that fact as an advertisement. The speakeasies were supplied illegally by gangsters, most notably; Al Capone in Chicago. Capone spent over $75 million bribing police and politicians in Chicago, but within two years was earing $60 million a year through the sale of alcohol. Other activities were earning him an extra $45 million a year. The money that could be made from selling alcohol illegally led to gang wars, and over 200 gangsters were killed in Chicago in just four years. Bill Thomson, elected mayor of Chicago 1927, was one of the men Capone bribed. Upon election, Thomson boasted that he would reopen speakeasies that had been shut down, and allow more to be opened (Beitrag). This utter disregard for the law, even by men in such high positions, leads to the overall conclusion that prohibition was a failure. Although consumption of alcohol is estimated to have ... • 49. How Social Control Theory Affects Criminal Behavior How Social Control Theory and Life Course Theory effect criminal behavior Mason Campbell Barge 900259391 University of North Georgia Criminology 11/17/14 How Social Control Theory and Life Course Theory effect criminal behavior Social control theory and life course theory focus on people s lives and how they interact with one another. The basic idea of the life course theory is that people s life experiences, both good and bad, determine what kind of person that they will be later in life. This does not mean that just because a person who had a good childhood, lived in a wealthy home, and had good parents, will continue to be a good person. The same can be said for people who had a bad childhood. Children who got in fights and disrespected authority figures may not continue to do that later on in life. A life course theorist would say this is because there are turning points in these people s lives that they go through. These turning points cause a person to change their current life course (Siegel, 2013, p. 305). For example a teenage boy who, regularly attends school, stays active in his community, and has good grades, decides to celebrate his success by smoking marijuana and drinking alcohol with some friends. The police show up and arrest the young man for drug possession and underage drinking. Now the young man has a criminal record and waste some of his time in jail. He loses his scholarships, the trust of his community, and the respect of his parents. This ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Puerto City Market History Ponce City Market is a new development including retail, residential and commercial space that repurposes the historic Sears Roebuck and Company building in the Old Fourth Ward district of Atlanta. The site has been in public use at least back to the 1860 s when it was a popular day trip for Atlantans who wished to visit Ponce de Leon Springs for their reputed health benefits. The springs on the site were named by Atlanta physician, Dr. Henry L. Wilson, for Juan Ponce de Leon, of Fountain of Youth fame, and it is from these springs, rather than the Spanish explorer, that Ponce de Leon Avenue takes its name. Over time additional attractions were built at the site to capitalize on the popularity of the springs and in 1903 the construction of a true amusement park was begun. Ponce de Leon Park remained a local attraction through the early 1920 s. In 1924, the park now closed, Sears Roebuck and Company chose the site for their Southeastern headquarters and began work on the current structure, completing the first phase in 1926.
