 Heat transfer enhancement techniques developed to improve the thermal
performance of heat exchanger systems to reducing the size and cost of
the systems.
 These techniques are used in heat exchangers. Some of the applications of
heat exchangers are in process industries, thermal power plant, air
conditioning equipment, refrigerators, automobiles etc.
 The efficiency of heat transfer equipment is essential in energy
conservation. Improved heat transfer can make heat exchangers smaller
and more energy efficient.

THE ENHANCEMENT TECHNIQUES
1.1 Active Techniques:- They require external power, such as electric or acoustic
fields and surface vibration.
1.2 Passive Techniques:- They employ special surface geometries, or fluid additives
for enhancement.
Mechanism of heat enhancement by using passive heat enhancement:-
1. Surface treatment:
 Coated surface
 Rough surface
 Extended surface
2. Flow manipulation:
 Swirl flow
 Modified flow

 Reasons behind the heat enhancement by using various inserts:-
 Boundary layer interruption
 Swirl Flow
 Displaced flow
 Secondary flow promotion
 Hydraulic diameter reduction
 Advantages of heat enhancement:-
 1.To reduce the heat transfer surface area required for a given application
and thus reduces the size and cost.
 2. To increase the heat duty of the heat exchanger.
 3. It permits closer approach temperatures.

PROJECT OBJECTIVES
1. Experimental analysis of heat transfer enhancement by using
various inserts.
2. Investigation of the various factor for each type of insert for
the certain Reynolds number (Re) in the range.
3. Compare the experimental analysis with software analysis for
different types of insert.
