DrEducation and University World News partnered to host a global online discussion (webinar) “Embracing Technology for Global Engagement: A Leadership Challenge and Opportunity.”
Over 700 professionals from around the world registered for the event. Recording of the event is available through following link. http://bit.ly/TechGlobalEd
The global panel was moderated by Dr. Rahul Choudaha, co-founder DrEducation and interEDGE.org. The panelists were:
- GinaMario Besana, Professor and Associate Provost for Global Engagement and Online Learning, DePaul University
- Helen O'Sullivan, Professor and Associate Pro-Vice-Chancellor for Online Learning, University of Liverpool
- Mark Brown, Professor and Director of the National Institute for Digital Learning, Dublin City University
- Kevin Kinser, Professor and Department Head of Education Policy Studies Pennsylvania State University
Online education and internationalization have been rising as strategic priorities for many university leaders around the world. While online experiments like MOOCs, badging, blended learning are still early in their evolution, few institutions have taken an innovative approach to finding a synergy between technological innovations and their application in global engagement strategies. And, of those who attempted to engage globally through technology have experienced several barriers related to cost, quality, recognition, and outcomes. This online discussion examined how university leaders are leveraging technology for advancing internationalization? How does technology fit in the overall global engagement strategy? What are the challenges and opportunities?

Capacity Building through a Collaborative Health Network: The African Health ...Kathleen Ludewig Omollo
On October 7, 2011, Kathleen Ludewig Omollo (University of Michigan) and Nadia Tagoe (Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology) presented to the University of Michigan students in the SI 575 Community Informatics Seminar.
The mission of the African Health OER Network is to advance health education in Africa by using open educational resources (OER) developed by and targeted toward Africans in order to share knowledge, address curriculum gaps, and support communities around health education. The project began in 2008 with five institutions in Ghana and South Africa but we continue to draw in more African participants with the goal of building a continent-wide Network. This presentation will explore the rationale for harnessing OER in the health sector, the motivations for forming the Network, the services and activities of the Network, and the initial outcomes and lessons learned. Guest Nadia Tagoe will speak about the health OER project at Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology in Ghana, one of the founding institutional partners.
OER Africa - Hewlett Grantees Meeting 2011Open.Michigan
OER Africa is an innovative initiative established by the South African Institute for Distance Education (SAIDE) to play a leading role in driving the development and use of Open Educational Resources (OER) across all education sectors on the African continent. Established in 1992, SAIDE’s mission is to increase equitable and meaningful access to knowledge, skills and learning across the African continent, through the adoption of open learning principles and distance education strategies. SAIDE’s recently launched OER Africa initiative brings together all of its OER-related activities under a common conceptual framework. SAIDE is – through its OER Africa initiative – providing a unique opportunity to deploy African expertise to harness the concept of OER to the benefit of education systems on the continent and around the world.

Interprofessional education at higher education institutions: an exemplar for...Jose Frantz
Interprofessional education has evolved over the last 20 years in the higher education sector. AS we
share best practice, we are able to identify context specific models for our institutions as this is an
important aspect that needs to be driven for sustainability. The aim of this paper is reflecting on
interprofessional education in higher education institutions in Africa and highlight the barriers
with the aim to provide possible solutions for the identified gaps. AS we move towards the 2030 SDG
goals we as health professionals and health professional educators are tasked to find solution to
promote goal 3 which focuses on improving health and wellbeing for all. The higher education sector also has to contribute to providing quality education to our students and thus we need to reflect on our interprofessional offerings to constantly improve so that we address the health of societies. As part of this presentation, the experiences of a resource constrained university are highlighted and the areas
of influence highlighted to continue to sustain interprofessional education for 20 years

Operation “Blue Star” is the only event in the history of Independent India where the state went into war with its own people. Even after about 40 years it is not clear if it was culmination of states anger over people of the region, a political game of power or start of dictatorial chapter in the democratic setup.
The people of Punjab felt alienated from main stream due to denial of their just demands during a long democratic struggle since independence. As it happen all over the word, it led to militant struggle with great loss of lives of military, police and civilian personnel. Killing of Indira Gandhi and massacre of innocent Sikhs in Delhi and other India cities was also associated with this movement.
The Roman Empire A Historical Colossus.pdfkaushalkr1407
The Roman Empire, a vast and enduring power, stands as one of history's most remarkable civilizations, leaving an indelible imprint on the world. It emerged from the Roman Republic, transitioning into an imperial powerhouse under the leadership of Augustus Caesar in 27 BCE. This transformation marked the beginning of an era defined by unprecedented territorial expansion, architectural marvels, and profound cultural influence.
The empire's roots lie in the city of Rome, founded, according to legend, by Romulus in 753 BCE. Over centuries, Rome evolved from a small settlement to a formidable republic, characterized by a complex political system with elected officials and checks on power. However, internal strife, class conflicts, and military ambitions paved the way for the end of the Republic. Julius Caesar’s dictatorship and subsequent assassination in 44 BCE created a power vacuum, leading to a civil war. Octavian, later Augustus, emerged victorious, heralding the Roman Empire’s birth.
Under Augustus, the empire experienced the Pax Romana, a 200-year period of relative peace and stability. Augustus reformed the military, established efficient administrative systems, and initiated grand construction projects. The empire's borders expanded, encompassing territories from Britain to Egypt and from Spain to the Euphrates. Roman legions, renowned for their discipline and engineering prowess, secured and maintained these vast territories, building roads, fortifications, and cities that facilitated control and integration.
The Roman Empire’s society was hierarchical, with a rigid class system. At the top were the patricians, wealthy elites who held significant political power. Below them were the plebeians, free citizens with limited political influence, and the vast numbers of slaves who formed the backbone of the economy. The family unit was central, governed by the paterfamilias, the male head who held absolute authority.
Culturally, the Romans were eclectic, absorbing and adapting elements from the civilizations they encountered, particularly the Greeks. Roman art, literature, and philosophy reflected this synthesis, creating a rich cultural tapestry. Latin, the Roman language, became the lingua franca of the Western world, influencing numerous modern languages.
Roman architecture and engineering achievements were monumental. They perfected the arch, vault, and dome, constructing enduring structures like the Colosseum, Pantheon, and aqueducts. These engineering marvels not only showcased Roman ingenuity but also served practical purposes, from public entertainment to water supply.
We all have good and bad thoughts from time to time and situation to situation. We are bombarded daily with spiraling thoughts(both negative and positive) creating all-consuming feel , making us difficult to manage with associated suffering. Good thoughts are like our Mob Signal (Positive thought) amidst noise(negative thought) in the atmosphere. Negative thoughts like noise outweigh positive thoughts. These thoughts often create unwanted confusion, trouble, stress and frustration in our mind as well as chaos in our physical world. Negative thoughts are also known as “distorted thinking”.
