On October 7, 2019, the Harvard Global Health Institute will host a one-day symposium to explore what enabled this visionary program, and to showcase how it has transformed not just the worldwide HIV/AIDS response but global health delivery more broadly.
There are many lessons learned in PEPFAR’s story - from what it took to build a supply chain where there was none, to establishing the use of generic antiretroviral therapies (ARTs) and leveraging human capacity. This event convened the early architects of PEPFAR as well as experts and implementers currently leading the charge. We took a historically informed look at what it will take to stop global transmission, and shared tools useful for others hoping to move the needle on vexing problems in global health.

Similarities and differences between Rare Cancers and Rare Diseases
While rare cancers (RCs) and rare diseases (RDs) face many similar challenges due to their rarity, there are also some key differences:
- RDs impact a larger number of different conditions (around 6000) compared to RCs (198 known types), and RDs are defined by prevalence while RCs by incidence.
- A majority of both RCs and RDs are life-threatening, but RDs more often affect children compared to RCs.
- Both communities struggle with delays in diagnosis, limited research funding, and a need for specialized treatment centers and clinical guidelines. However, RCs can take more advantage of research on common cancers, while RDs are more heterogeneous.

Advancing Global Health Education through Open Educational Resources
The African Health OER Network fosters collaboration between African institutions to develop and share open educational resources for improving health education in Africa. The Network builds technical infrastructure to involve more participants from Africa and globally. It also develops sustainable models of collaboration that can be replicated in other regions. Participating institutions include universities from Ghana, South Africa, Botswana, Kenya, Malawi, and the UK. Benefits of open educational resources include increased global visibility, access, and cost savings while encouraging curriculum innovation. Caroline Francis conducted a systematic review of 37 studies from 2010-2015 examining the extent to which mobile learning (mLearning) can transform community health workforce development in Asia and Africa. The review found that while mLearning shows potential in increasing access to education and improving skills, more research is needed. Specifically, more evidence is required to demonstrate the impact of mLearning on productivity, performance, and health outcomes at scale. Additionally, challenges remain regarding human and financial resources as well as developing policies to support the integration of mLearning into national health systems.

On October 7, 2011, Kathleen Ludewig Omollo (University of Michigan) and Nadia Tagoe (Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology) presented to the University of Michigan students in the SI 575 Community Informatics Seminar.
The mission of the African Health OER Network is to advance health education in Africa by using open educational resources (OER) developed by and targeted toward Africans in order to share knowledge, address curriculum gaps, and support communities around health education. The project began in 2008 with five institutions in Ghana and South Africa but we continue to draw in more African participants with the goal of building a continent-wide Network. This presentation will explore the rationale for harnessing OER in the health sector, the motivations for forming the Network, the services and activities of the Network, and the initial outcomes and lessons learned. Guest Nadia Tagoe will speak about the health OER project at Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology in Ghana, one of the founding institutional partners.The African Health OER Network - 2011 Hewlett Grantees Meeting

Global Healthcare Innovation: A Framework for Implementation
As populations increase, health resources shrink, and access and quality of life equity differences widen, the clarion call for innovation in healthcare is growing louder around the world. Both international groups such as the World Health Organization and national groups, e.g., ministry of health, continue to set aggressive goals and billions have been spent to design and implement global health innovations.
Many global health innovations (GHI) have set high goals but had limited success in implementation or never scaled to serve a wider population. The barriers to implementing global healthcare innovations include policies or political priorities, lack of commitment, limited infrastructure, and limited healthcare staff. Some health entrepreneurs have overcome such barriers; Yet other, well intentioned and planned GHI have not met expectations.
Although some articles provide suggestions for avoiding, overcoming and addressing these barriers, few offer new models for global health innovation. In this research, we offer a four component model that considers the adoptive community, implementation team, the delivery strategy and the delivery approach as key enablers for successful GHI. This model is supported by the literature and in-depth case studies in Uganda, Ghana, Mozambique, and Haiti.

It aims to provide students with the skills and knowledge to safely and effectively respond to family violence. A team of experts from various disciplines will develop the content. The package will be piloted at 4 Australian universities and disseminated nationally to promote best practices in teaching this important issue.

cover is essential for various planning and management tasks related to the Earth's surface,
providing crucial environmental data for scientific, resource management, policy purposes, and
