How Did Benjamin Franklin Use Electricity
You use lights every day? Think about it: how would you able to watch tv, charge
your phone, take a hot shower(boiler that runs on electricity), use your computers.
We use electricity every day with at any worries about how it works and if we are
safe. We able to do those things without a second thought because of the Benjamin
Franklininvention of a lightning rod that will allow electricityto be used as power.
Benjamin Franklin was born on January 17, 1706, and died on April 17, 1790. He
was born in Massachusetts the Bay Colony is now known as Boston, MA.
Benjamin attended Boston Latin School at age 8. Then George Brownell s school
until he was 10. At age 12 he took an interest in the business of printing, a had an

The history of physics was changed by his discoveries and theories regarding
electricity. People usually used electricity for magic tricks creating and sparks and
shock. Instead of him learning how to do magic tricks, Benjamin was curious
about what else he could do with electricity. Benjamin believed that electricity and
lightning were the same because they both created light, made loud noises when
they exploded and were attracted to metal. His hypothesis asserted that power was
extremely one liquid, which could be available in abundance, or leaving from a
body, accordingly clarifying its electrical charge. To prove his theory, he stood on a
hill flying a kite with a key tied to it waiting for the lighting to strike. At the point
when the lightning struck the kite, the capable jolt went down the string and charged
the metal key. Franklin then touched the key and got a shock, in this manner
demonstrating the presence of electricity. Benjamin Franklin felt the negative
charges in the metal piece of the key that pulled into the positive charges when he
grasped the key and felt a shock. He knew if a building was tall or high up on a hill,
it was bound to get hit by lightning, so he invented a lightning rod which was made
out of metal. The lightning rod would have a low resistance path of ground for
lightning and prevent houses from burning. The lightning rod is an incredible
conductor and enables the current to stream to the ground without causing any
Women s Suffrage In American History Essay
Women s Suffrage in American History
During the late 19th century, women were in a society where man was dominant.
Women did not have natural born rights, such as the right to vote, to speak in public,
access to equal education, and so forth, did not stop them to fight for their rights.
Women s lives soon changed when Lucy Stone, Elizabeth Cady Stanton, and Susan
B. Anthony played a prominent role to help bring about change.
Lucy Stone, an abolitionist, is one of the most important workers for women s
suffrage and women s rights. When the Bible was quoted to her, defending the
positions of men and women, she declared that when she grew up, she d learn Greek
and Hebrew so she could correct the mistranslation that she was sure was behind ...

The timeline of women s suffrage is a one that spans from 1848 to 1920. The women
s rights movement in the United States started in the year 1848 with the first women
s rights convention held in Seneca Falls, New York. During this convention the
Declaration of sentiments was signed by 68 women who agreed that women deserved
their own political identities. This document set forward the agenda for the women s
rights movement. In the year 1869, Susan B Anthony and Elizabeth Cady Stanton
formed the National Women s suffrage Association which demanded that the 15th
amendment be changed to include women right to vote. In the year 1890, The
National Women Suffrage Association and the American Women Suffrage
Association merged to form National American Woman Suffrage Association
(NAWSA). Colorado was the first state to grant women the right to vote in the year
1893, followed by Utah, Idaho, Washington, California, Oregon, Kansas, Arizona,
Alaska, Illinois, Montana, Nevada, New York, Michigan, South Dakota and
Oklahoma. The National Association of Colored Women was formed in the year
1896 to promote the civil rights of colored women. The National Women s Trade
Union League was established in the year 1903 in order to improve the working
condition for women and also to bring their wages in par with that of men.
National Women s Party was one of the popular organizations that focused more on

How Did The Vietnam War Affect Society
War always has huge effect on the both sides of the conflict. During the War World
II and the Vietnam War, our nation got affected in many different ways. The
impacts of World War II and the Vietnam War on the American home front was so
huge because both conflicts greatly affected the nation s economy and society.
Many Americans supported World War II; however, not as many American
supported the Vietnam War since they did not understand the reason or the
purpose for the Vietnam War. World War II was known as the good war, but the
Vietnam War was known as the bad war, but both had a great impact on American
Life. The main reason that caused the US entry into WW2, was when Japanese
attack on Pearl Harbor. In addition, when Germany invading Poland, the World War
II began in 1939 until 1945. Therefore, this war had effect on the nation s economy
and society. When the US entered into WW2, it had a great effect on the nation s
economy since the government increased control of the economy because it ended
The Great Depression. In addition, during World War II, there was a growth in the
Americans auto industry since many factories produced tanks, planes, and cars. This
helped create many jobs and millions of workers joined the workforce. As a result,

The Vietnam War started in 1959 and ended in 1975. However, the conflict affected
the nation s economy and society. In the film Two Days in October , it clearly
showed how public opinion affected the leaders actions during the war. American
society opposed the Vietnam War for many reasons because they believed that that
the U.S. had no business in involving themselves in other countries, and it cost many
American s and Vietnam s lives as well since U.S. were fighting immorally. They
also believed that the draft was unfair since it was affecting mostly the poor

Abuse In Demi Lovato s Warrior
The Freedom Writers Diary is a book about young teens who have been through
many hardships in their short lives. It touches on many mature topics that no one
should have to go through. One major topic in this book was abuse. Abuse is
something that many people go through and The Freedom Writers Diary did not shy
away from this topic, but gives a raw account of what it feels like to go through it.
Although their abuse, whether physical or mental was not right at all, it did make the
diarists stronger than ever before. The song Warrior by Demi Lovato relates to the
experiences students in the book underwent. She sings about the abuse from that she
sustained from her father. Throughout the book and song, the message, Stay strong

However, he was verbally abused and his mother was physically abused. The Color
Purple truly had an effect on many Freedom Writers because they can connect to
Celie in different ways. This person can relate to Celie because his mother was
abused by his stepfather like how Celie was beaten up by Mister. He states that his
stepfather was a professional alcoholic , meaning that he drank so much that it
could be his job. Things got so detrimental that the diarist was coming home right
after school to protect his mother. One night his mother was being hit and slapped,
but something changed inside the boy, he knew that he felt obligated to do
something to stop it. He threw his stepfather off of his mother. In Warrior Demi
Lovato uses the metaphor, I need to take back the light inside you stole. There was
no literal light, but they needed to take back their power and strength. In this
person s case, he took back his light by saving his mother and getting to safety. An
excerpt from his diary states, The color purple was coming from my mother s eye
where my stepdad had punched her. That s when I began to understand that the color
purple isn t just a color or the name of the book. He uses imagery here to let use
picture how his mother looked. He shows us that this phrase has more than one
Brave New World Alienation Analysis
Alienation in Brave New World In the novel Brave New World , there are many
indications of the motif alienation that is seen in the novel as discrimination.
Alienation is indicated directly towards John the savage, who is discriminated, but
also is seen as a person of interest that isolates him and alienates him. The World
State discovers how different John s culture is and mock it, believing it to be
nonsense. As John enters the society enjoying the magnificent sights and the thrill of
entering into a new society, he soon realizes how corrupt the entire society is and
regrets coming because how he is alienated among the people. Brave New Worldis a
novel that involves a culture of discrimination, which the citizens of the World
State alienate other moral standards, religious beliefs, and diverse culture. John s
morals are tested by the people who try to indulge him into sex, partying, and
alienating his standards of life. The novel portrays lot of discrimination towards
John who suffers from all this corruption and is mocked for his morals of purity.
John is the new entertainment for the people who try to offer him the drug soma
and invite him to be like them instead of following his morals of a human being.
The cruel temptations are signs of alienation, because it is portrayed that the people
disagree with John and want him to instead feel free from his chains of morals and
be like them. John is regretting ever leaving his home and feels deeply hurt from all

Second Industrial Revolution In 1850
Socialism was at its peak during the late years of the 1st Industrial Revolution into
the early years of the second Industrial Revolution that started in 1850. As there was
a shift from the oppressive feudal and agrarian systems of the conservative order,
industrial jobs that paid more and produced more capital for the economy became
prominent. Governments were slowly but surely turning into constitutionalized
monarchies, a step up from the absolute monarchies. However the working class still
had most of the short end of the stick when it came to their health and democratic
rights. They were crowded in unsanitary slums, overworked, underpaid for their
labor, and overshadowed by the prioritized wants of the bourgeoisie. Unlike the

One way for lawyers to ensure objectively fair fees is to enter into a fee agreement
with their client. This way the client is, as is required, fully explained about how
and what he/she is being charged for the legal services being provided. The
lawyers that worked during the time of Emperor Claudius, and the judges before
which these lawyers debated, were not extensively trained in law. They were,
instead, educated in rhetoric by mentors. Eventually Rome began to develop a class
of specialists who were trained in the law. By the start of the Byzantine Empire the
legal profession was becoming well established and heavily regulated. Lawyers were
more commonly studying law, along with continued studious study of rhetoric. It
soon became a requirement for new advocates seeking admission into the court to
produce testimonials from their teachers verifying their education. (Wikipedia).
Shortly after, a course of legal study, lasting about four years, became mandatory for
anyone pursuing a profession in law. The effects of such educational requirements
can be seen in the educational requirements of today s lawyers. In America,
prospective lawyers must fulfill several educational requirements in order to practice
law.
Nineteen Eighty Four By George Orwell
Imagine living in a world were all your actions are under constant supervision? In
which the government has full control over your life. A world in where there is no
freedom of self expression. Even your own thoughts could be considered a crime. The
popular high school novel Nineteen Eighty four by George Orwell lets the reader
experience that world, one of totalitarianism; in which a state has no limits in their
authority and attempts to regulate every aspect of public and private life. This book
allows students to expand their minds on external oppression, by recognizing the
extremes, a government goes to in order to maintain control over their people. A book
that illustrates the dangers of conformity, mental coercion, and verbal deception. A
worthy book that meets required reading objectives for high school students, an
intellectually challenging novel, keeps readers engaged, and helps students think for
themselves in the evaluation of governments regulations.
Nineteen Eighty four depicts a dystopian future world into three totalitarian
superpowers that are constantly at war with one another: Oceania, dominated by
former United States; Eurasia, dominated by Western Europe; and Eastasia,
dominated by China and Japan. In which the protagonist of the novel, Winston Smith,
is the member of the Outer Party, in Oceania. He is a writer for the Ministry of
Truth, whose main job is to assist in the continual rewriting of history so that it
conforms with the expectations and

Egypt plays an extremely significant role as one of the major powers in the Middle

which makes it extremely difficult to be ignored. The book, Egypt under Mubarak

consequences of the many crises Egypthas faced. Mubarak comes into power taking
upon himself the previous Egyptian political, sociological, and economic problems

The book touches on topics with a broad range from politics to economy to
geography. The book is solely based on research of the Egyptian government from
the time when Mubarak took power, 1981, up until the writing of the book which was
in 1989.
Throughout the book, 16 books are cited. Even though the book is based on the
government under Mubarak, the writers refer to events that were held before
Mubarak was put into power which helps the reader understand the important history
behind the present. After each chapter, there are bibliographies as well as endnotes in
some chapters listing the sources used in the passage. Except for the Chapter on the
National Debt where his previous statements based on The Central Bank of Egypt,
Cairo contradicts his final assessment of the sum.
The writers of each section always tend to agree with the sources that they have
cited. With this known, I was able to see that the writers in each chapter took into
account the other writings of scholars that wrote on similar topics. Because of the
writers many sources, they are able to give an unbiased look into the history of the
Egyptian Government. They examine both the positive and negative aspects of
Mubarak as President specifically laws he passes and actions he takes towards not
only Egyptians, but also the Arab Israeli relationship, as well as foreign relations with
Arab countries and the western world. Charles Tripp goes into detail about the

14. INFORMATION NEEDS
Target Markets
At the center of any effective marketing strategy is the ability to define what makes
a service unique and highly valuable to a given target market. When selling services,
which are inherently intangible, the need exists for creating value quickly and with
many forms of tangible proof of expertise sold. When selling information services the
need to generate trust and a strong sense of value has to preclude any long term
purchasing relationship (Laurence, 2001). Market Solutions needs to create a
foundation of trust with the following target markets if their information services
business is going to establish itself and thrive over time.
Trust must be the foundation of the company for it to succeed in the segments it has
chosen. These include automotive, banking, FMCG, food and beverages, hospitality
services and telecommunication services industries. Each of these industries has
unique information challenges or problems, yet all share a common interest in
customer satisfaction analysis. The customer satisfaction analysis service will be
offered to all of these industries, in addition to Ad Tracking. These two services are
foundational for the successful operation of any business and will also serve over
time to create a system of record, or master data management (MDM) platform that
will illustrate each of these industries well. One of the most critical factors of success
Dry Ice Lab
Dry ice (solid CO2) forms when CO2 gas is cooled to 78.5В°C (at 1atm pressure)
and is commonly used in refrigeration. A CO2 molecule is held together by strong
covalent bonds, intramolecular bonds formed by non metal atoms sharing
electrons to attain noble gas configuration. In CO2, two oxygen atoms are double
bonded to a carbon atom (see figure 1). However, as CO2 is a covalent molecular
substance, its intermolecular bonds are very weak. As a molecules of CO2 has no
hydrogen bonds due to absence of hydrogen atoms, and no dipole dipole force as
there is no electronegativity imbalance, they are held together by Van der Waals
forces. Van de Waals forces are weak electrostatic forces caused by random
movement of electrons, and contribute to the low sublimation point of solid CO2 as
they require little heat energy to sever.
Sublimation is a physical change where a substance ... Show more content on

Thus, as in SLC the temperature is significantly higher than the sublimation point of
CO2, this combined with the initial diffusion of the gas means the volume of CO2
gas produced is significantly larger than the original solid CO2 volume as the space
between the molecules of CO2 increases. The expansion factor of the CO2 can be
calculated using the following equation: expansion factor=(volume of gas)/(volume
of solid)Г—100
The volume of CO2 gas can be measured by capturing it in water. As CO2 is a non
polar it has a very low solubility of approximately 0.78g/100mL of water at 24 В°C,
very little gas dissolves into the water. Thus it is assumed that the measured volume
of CO2 will be accurate.
To calculate the volume of CO2 as solid, the density and mass of solid CO2 are used.
Density (ПЃ) is a measure of a substance s mass per unit of volume (measured in g
/cm3). The relationship between density, mass and volume is shown in the following
formula:
Stereotypes In High School
High school is full of a variety of types of people, who can all be labeled into
certain groups or stereotypes. High school can be an amazing time for people, just
as easily as it could be a terrible time for people. It s quite odd how everyone goes to
the same school, and mostly attend the same courses, yet they are significantly
different from one another. Every school has the classic jocks, nerds, partiers/stoners,
etc., but it appears our generation has created several new stereotypes. With students
spending approximately 35 hours a week at school, it is easy for one another to label
each other, and determine who they fit in with.
The most common stereotype in Spring Lake is the Preppy Rich Kid. The Preppy
part of these kids is that they love to wear a perfectly matching outfit; including
their colorful Polo Shirts/t shirts, colorful short shorts, matching socks, with a
matching pair of boat shoes/skate shoes. The Rich part of these kids is that they
live in a big house on the water, their parents have high paying jobs, and their
parents will buy them whatever they desire. These kids typically drive an
expensive foreign car, usually blaring rap music out of their car s subwoofer
everyday to school. Once they have arrived at school, most of them have a very
enjoyable day. For the most part, they have a perfect life, including getting all the
girls/boys, receiving good grades, being attractive, and being a phenomenal athlete.
These kids are likable people, and

AT T Inc. secured a $85.4 billion blockbuster deal to buy Time Warner Inc. and
promised to reshape the media landscape. If this deal were to be approved, AT T
would combine its millions of wireless and pay television subscribers with Time
Warner s stable of TV networks and programming (Gryta). This potential merger has
drawn many comparisons to Comcast s acquisition of NBC Universal in 2011.
Despite the acquisition of NBC Universal successfully going through, U.S. regulatory
officials and rivals have expressed concerns that some government conditions
regarding Comcast s behavior, such as its requirement to not weigh in on strategic
decisions at streaming service Hulu, were tough to monitor and enforce (Gryta).
Many rival executives and members of Congress share the same fear regarding the
AT T and Time Warner
merger. There is the belief that this potential deal would put
too much concentration of power in the hands of too few (Gryta).
Essentially, people are worried that if this deal were to go through, AT T would gain
significantly more control over the television market which could potentially result
in fewer choices and higher prices. Furthermore, by acquiring Time Warner, AT T
would gain the ability to offer more of Time Warner s content for its existing
customers and woo new ones by offering perks to access Time Warner s hit shows
(Illmer). AT T customers could possibly stream certain television content without it
eating into their data plans (Illmer) and
Reflection On Christianity
Christianity Summative Reflection
Christianity is a religion based on the life and teachings of Jesus. Most forms of
Christianity hold that Jesus is the son of God. There are many similarities between
my faith, Roman Catholicism and my non Catholic, group choice of Christian
denomination, Jehovah s Witness. This branch of Christianity, Jehovah s Witnesses,
was formed by the WatchTower Society and also founded by Jesushimself. Learning
about a Christian Denomination has changed my perspective of Christianity through
the Jehovah s Witnesses history, beliefs/rituals, sacraments and how they spread the
message of God to others.
The history and beliefs/rituals of the Jehovah Witness branch of Christianity has
altered my perspective of Christianity in general. Since the beginning of the 19th
century to the present day, the Jehovah s Witnesses have brought forth a different
perspective about Christianity. The people of the Jehovah s Witnesses community
believe that Jesus is not the messiah, and do not believe in the Holy Trinity. They
believe that Jesus is not the one to worship because he is less than God too just as
humans. This puts in perspective that God is the Father Almighty and no other
person, or spirit is above him. Before learning about Jehovah s Witnesses, I did not
think there was this many branches of Christianity. I also thought every Christianity
denomination believed in the Holy Trinity as seeing The Father, The Son, and The
Holy Spirit. This topic has impacted
Observation Of A Soccer Field In Elementary School
Observation #1 For my first observation I observed my four year old nephew s
soccer practice at an elementary school which lasted about a half an hour. They
met on the empty field at the elementary school, there were about 3 other teams
practicing at the same time but everyone was spread out. The coaches set up cones
and pop up goals for the children. There were about 12 15 children there, I think
they said a few kids weren t there. There were about four coaches or helpers
working with the children. The first thing they did with the kids was a few warm
up activities, the first being some sort of running activity where the children ran
around following the coaches, next, they hopped in place being silly. Then the kids
each got a ball and began a kicking exercise were the had to go around and try to kick
the ball at the cones and knock them down. Then the kids got in a line with their
ball and followed the leader around while dribbling the ball with both feet. In the
next activity, the children got to practice kicking a stationary ball into the goal.
After that, they played a 7 min practice game. At this point, many of the children
were in the pre control level of proficiency because for most it is their first time
playing soccer and I could definitely tell. There might have been a few activities
where some children where at control level but it was very minimal. For example,
during the kicking exercise, it was very hard for the kids to control where their ball
was going.
Analysis Of Dream Machines By Will Wright
In the article, Dream Machines (211), Will Wright presents an article about how
machines and technology affect society today. However, instead of taking a
negative view of how technology influences people s lives, the considers the
positive effects on the population and how machines are allowing us to better
develop the world. I found that most of his arguments and examples, such as how
video games improve reaction times, were outdated and boring expressions. Many
articles have debated these arguments, however I did find his view on
personalization quite relevant. His article brought up two points that are usually not
noticed in other articles. First he talks about how playing video games is a lot
different from watching someone play... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Using persuasive writing, Wright begins to influence his audience that game play is a
beneficial source of entertainment not a wasteful one. Playing video games
increases creatively, self esteem and improve problem solving skills of the players.
Video games are becoming test runs that appear or feel close to the real thing.
Where you can control everything with added effects like magic or future
technology. Games have the potential to exceed almost all other forms of
entertainment media. They tell stories, play music, challenge us, allow us to
instantly communicate and interact with others. Encourage us to create things,
connect us to new communities, and let us play with people across the world.
Unlike most other forms of media, games are inherently tangible. According to
Wright young children spend their days in imaginary worlds, substituting toys and
make believe into the real world that they are just beginning to explore and
understand. Wright states that games are the result of imagination and that they
consist of rules and goals. Generation of teenagers has grown up with different set
of games. Teenagers use the scientific method rather than reading the manual first.
Games today maybe a person s only place to express a high level of creativity and
growth. Older generations have a lot of criticisms for games, the games can help a
person learn to think on his or her own.

whoever wanted to learn. Needless to say, the instructors were not pleased, and
challenged Bruce to fight Wong Jack Man, another Martial Arts master in the area.
The rules were set, if Bruce lost, he was to stop teaching. If he won, he would be

Bruce won, barely. After this fight, Bruce decides to re evaluate his fighting

Criminal Identification And The Criminal Justice System
Techniques of criminal identification have varied throughout the criminal justice
system. As time progressed, these techniques evolved accordingly. Due to modern
day technology, and scientific advancements, it has made identifying criminals much
easier. Adding to the effectiveness and accuracy, these techniques also carry much
more weight and play a much more credible role in court. Best of all, it has made it
near impossible for a suspect to get away with a crime especially when not caught in
the act of committing. Although, methods of criminal identification have varied
throughout history, the most common and verifying procedure of pinpointing
criminals still today is through fingerprintanalysis. Because fingerprints are most
commonly left at a crime scene and because they are extremely unique in each of
their individual characteristics, the overall techniques of recovering them at a crime
scene continue to have a compelling impact on determining criminals.
Without any means of personal identification, many individuals throughout history all
over the world took notice of analyzing fingerprints and their unique characteristics.
Dating back centuries, old civilizations would utilize fingerprints by placing them on
clay tablets indicating a business transaction had been made. An anatomy professor
named John Evangelist Purkinje, at the University of Breslau in the year 1823
published a thesis analyzing nine fingerprint patterns, although made no mention or
indication of the
Actus And Mens Rea Case Study
When it comes to figuring out if an action made is a crime or not it is important to
understand the common law. Actus Reus and Mens Rea are where each case is
based off of in order to make a stance as to why the act should be punished for or
not. Actus Reus is known as guilty act, which means actually committing an act
intentionally or unintentionally and following through with it (Silver, 2011). As in
assaulting an individual, stealing or any other criminal act of that sort. Mens Rea
can be thought of as guilty mind, which is best explained as wanting or thinking of
doing something, but the inability or ability to follow through with it (Silver, 2011).

LSD and the 60s Music Scene Essay
In the sixties, the psychedelic music scene was at its prime and the world was full
of hippie musicians that loved to drop acid and create some of the most interesting
and innovative music known to man. During this time, drugs were a very popular
part of the hippie culture and the prevalence of LSD helped to create the distinct
genre of psychedelic musicknown as psychedelic or acid rock. Many bands and
artists such as Grateful Dead, Jefferson Airplane, The Beatles, and The Byrds were
heavily influenced by LSD, which led to the creation of some very popular music.
This decade was full of adventure, music, sex, and drugs, and it was all made
possible due to this powerfully trippy drug.

The goal of LSD, along with other psychedelic drugs, was to open the mind and
find a new light to look upon things (Bacig). Many artists took this approach to their
music and would drop acid before composing music. This gave the music of this era
a distinct sound and without LSD, the world would not have psychedelic rock. During
this time, many artists referenced LSD in their songs because of the profound
effect it had on them. In order to produce the psychedelic feel, the artists would
write esoteric lyrics, often describing dreams, visions, or hallucinations as well as
use other techniques such as distorting and delaying the sound, and playing
sections of the song backwards. Another important part of psychedelic rock is the
influence of Indian music. Bands such as The Beatles popularized this technique of
using exotic instruments like the sitar, the tambura, and the tabla in their music
(Psychedelic Rock). The Beatles were a very well known and popular band in the
sixties. The use of LSD and other drugs heavily influenced two of their albums,
Revolver and Sgt. Pepper s Lonely Hearts Club Band. Their first experience with the
drug within the band was when John Lennon and George Harrison accidentally took
acid in 1965. After their eye opening incident, Lennon and Harrison decided that Paul
McCartney and Ringo Starr needed to try it as well because they found that [they]

Cultural Competency And Social Work Practice
The BusinessDictionary.com defines cultural competency as, A set of behaviors,
policies, and attitudes which form a system or agency which allows cross cultural
groups to effectively work professionally in situations. This includes human
behaviors, languages, communications, actions, values, religious beliefs, social
groups, and ethic perceptions. Individuals are competent to function on their own and
within an organization where multi cultural situations will be present (2016).
Our communities are composed of various ethnicities which have led to the need to
incorporate cultural competency in state legislation, federal statutes and programs,
private sector organization and academic settings. The Indicators for the Achievement
of the NASW Standards for Cultural Competency in Social WorkPractice is the
manual that guides the social practice in attaining cultural competency.
Since cultural competence includes attaining the knowledge, skills, and attitudes to
enable practitioners to provide effective care for diverse populations, reading and
adhering to the Indicators for the Achievement of the NASW Standards for Cultural
Competency in Social Work Practice, will allow me to incorporate the ten standards
in my daily practice. The ten standards include; ethics and values, self awareness,
cross cultural knowledge, cross cultural skills, service delivery, empowerment and
advocacy, diverse workforce, professional education, language diversity, and cross

Screen Time Benefits
Screen Time has affected the medical and psychological health of children
throughout the past years. The younger children get addicted to technology and
screens, the worst the brain will develop. Brains develop quickly but become
sensitive with change, so if more damage happens during early years of a child s life,
in the future they will be become affected. According to Health and Technology, CVS
(computer vision syndrome) is identified as the complex of problems associated
with excessive screen time, including eyestrain, blurry vision, and dry eyes (Health
and Technology). Most girls from age eight to twelve find themselves having low
self esteem. Social and emotional changes have been proposed as a risk of excessive
time, including distancing oneself from friends, withdrawing from hobbies and
physical activities (Knopf). When children continuously use their technology, and

different internet tools are easy fun ways to socialize and communicate (Nemours).
For younger children, motor skills will improve using scissors, using pencils and
being able to use keyboards. With our everyday technology, children improve their
language skills everyday. By reading eBooks or accessing stories online, they learn
new words and proper ways to pronounce them (DigiMom). Another benefit is the
more children use screens for games, their motivation will increase to complete
tasks and help solve problems. Children who are eager to unlock the next level will
help overcome challenges. Those children who are visual learners tend to enjoy

Rhetorical Analysis Of Albert Einstein s Letter
I believe that Einstein s letter was rhetorically effective because he employed all
the devices of Aristotelian triangle ethos, logos, and pathos. His purpose was to
address the question of a 6th grade girl, who wrote to him asking Do scientists pray,
and if so, for what? And his letter was sensitive to the age, maturity, and likely
religious viewpoint of his audience.Phyllis wrote to Einstein because he had a
reputation as a great scientist, arguably one of the finest minds of the 20th century,
who won the Nobel Prize in Physics. So Einstein did not have to establish his
credentials. He shows his knowledge of science. He speaks for scientists in general
based on the nature of science, and does not claim to speak for all scientists.

The Enigma of Capital and the Crisis of Capitalism is a forum for author David
Harvey to voice his concerns on the contemporary global capitalist model. As a
Marxist geographer and anthropologist, Harvey analyzes modern capitalism
through a lens of skepticism that results in a scathing renunciation of the capitalist
goals of perpetual accumulation and creative destruction. Harvey argues that in a
world constrained by scarce resources and burgeoning social barriers, the capitalist
process produces a strange dynamic that oscillates between periods of crisis and
boom (40). In the end the capitalist may be able to hedge against her losses, but the
vast majority of the population will wallow in the doldrums, enslaved by the
power of capital and unable to pull themselves up by their bootstraps. Such is the
extent of the problem we face in the wake of the Great Recession. The economy
continues to grow modestly, while median household income shrinks (Noss 2). The
capitalists are reloading once again at the expense of Main Street. As Harvey points
out, there is a great need to reevaluate of our views of modern capitalism. The
Enigma of Capital is just a starting point.
Harvey begins his analysis of capitalism with a
Granulated Sugar Chemistry
When you are measuring 5/8 cup of granulated sugar it is best that you use a dry
measuring cup for dry ingredients. Since measuring cups don t usually come in a 5
/8 cup size you will have to use an alternate to get the right amount. You can use 1/2
cup plus 2 tablespoons to equal 5/8 cup. When you are measuring the 1/2 cup it s
important that you use a straight edge spatula to level off the granulated sugarso that
you are not using too much or too less.
A great way to measure flour is to weigh the amount you are using to make sure that
you are using the right amount like we did today in our lab. You may not always
have the option of weighing flour. What you can do is use a sifter and directly sift
flour into a measuring cup. Sifting
Compare And Contrast The Indentured Servitude
13. The indentured servitude was a labor system in which young people paid for
their passage to the New World by working for an employer for a certain number of
years. 14. The British decided to convert to slave labor because it was being used in
other parts of the world and made labor easier. 15. Slavery was the most extreme, but
not the only form of unfree labor in British North America. Many Europeans and
some Africans were held as indentured servants. Neither slaves nor indentured
servants were free, but there were important differences. Slaverywas involuntary and
hereditary. Indentured servants made contracts, offering an exchange of labor for
passage to America. They served for a limited time, and generally received... Show

Lauryn Hill s Song Mystery Of Iniquity
Bobbie Newell, Jr. Dr. DuBose English 102:02 November 14th, 2017 Has the
criminal justice system always been unfair to minorities? Lauryn Hill, a famous
songwriter talks about several things that opened the eyes of citizens everywhere
across this nation in her album MTV Unplugged No. 2.0. In her song, Mystery of
Iniquity she exposes the unjust court system and how everyone plays a part. The
word iniquity means immoral unfair behavior. In the song Lauryn is trying to
understand the meaning of the unfair behavior by the criminal justice system. She
released this album in 2001, and she was not wrong for publicizing her views on
this masterpiece of an album. We tend to forget that under President Clinton s
term, he enforced the 3 strikes and you re out policy, which placed more African
American men in person for using crack cocaine than ever before. In the early
2000s, African Americans made up nearly 80% of a prison s population due to the
federal crack cocaine laws and they also served more time in prison for drug
offenses than their white counterparts. However, during this time period more than
67% (в…”) of crack cocaine users were either white or Hispanic. The theme of this
paper is, the discrimination in courtrooms. The reason for this theme is because,
once you listen to the 3rd stanza of this poem you can tell what it is and how the
system is in operation to imprison African Americans, and it will never change. The
paper will focus on these few topics, a corrupt law system, bias judges and perjury
from peers. As a matter of fact, in the poem Mystery of Iniquity the writer Lauryn
Hill examines discrimination in courtrooms to illustrate, a corrupt law system, bias
judges, and perjury. Hill shows a corrupt law system through discrimination in
courtrooms from different aspects in her poem. In the first stanza line 2 3, Hill is
introducing the the sad and horrible truth of the American legal system. According to
Hill in Line 2 she states ....misery of iniquity......history of iniquity . Hill argues that
the unhappiness of African American in prison due to their long and extensive prison
sentence is a prime example of the corrupt law system. This supports the thesis
statement because during the war on

NY and Burlington VT are rarely used today, at one time they were very important
military and commercial ports. The Battle of Lake Champlain (also called the Battle

Champlain was not only an explorer; he was a cartographer (map maker), soldier
and geographer. Fort Ticonderoga, also called Fort Carillon was a fort built in the
18th century near the south end of Lake Champlain in NY. The fort was originally
built during the French and Indian War, and called Fort Carillon. During the war,
the French held off British soldiers here. During the American Revolutionary War,
Ethan Allen helped to capture the fort in a surprise attack. It was then taken over
by the British, but was relinquished by them after they lost the Battle of Saratoga.
Burlington Vermont is the largest city in Vermont and is situated on the eastern

Edward Cornwallis Statue Analysis
There is no doubt that Edward Cornwallis statue has certain significance. Although
the statue has been around for nearly 100 years, it is still intact. The statue of
Cornwallis was created by the Scottish sculptor J. Massey Rhind and was unveiled
at its eponymous park on June 22, 1931. It was considered the 182nd anniversary
of Cornwallis s arrival and watched as the natal day. (Announcement, 1931) The
statue looks attentively to forward, wears a cloak, left hand clenches commanding
sword, right hand holds a cocked hat, bronze figures throughout the mottled with
grooves, eyes reveal that strong ambition and tenacity of one generation leader.
The statue has a straight body, burly back symbolize the courage of Cornwallis and
the magnificent imperialism. The statue is located at center of Cornwallis Park, the
fields were lush with grass and flowers, and tall trees are in order, cluster of
dandelion open in the thick grass, the birds singing on the branch, a group of pigeons
were pecking at the crumbs that people spilled on the ground. Many tourists who
drove to Halifaxwere watching the park and the statue through the window, and
they often use the camera to record here. Five clean paths were staggered between
the bright meadows in the park. Some of the entertainment devices such as swings
and slides are built in the park for children to play and exercise. There are often
many old people enjoying the afternoon sun in long deckchairs. It is hard to imagine
that there is a lot of

According to Denscombe (2007 cited by Saunders 2009), secondary data is not
always presented in a form which would satisfy a researcher s needs. One of its
main reasons is either the data is out dated or the methods of collecting that
information would have been different which thus may offer information of very
less value in fast changing market. Therefore it becomes important for a researcher
to check the validity and reliability of the information. Another disadvantage of
secondary research is that sometimes gaining access to secondary data becomes
costly. According to Saunders (2009), market reports produced by big research
firms like Mintel and Keynote costs a lot and thus researchers may not get the full
version access to get full value of their research.
2.0 As per experts it is easy and quick to conduct secondary research but what
makes people carry primary research? According to (Hague et.al 2008), the main
reason for it is that people do not know how to locate the information and thus
secondary research lays a base for primary research and thus helps in its increments.
Primary research also increments the secondary data such as journals and magazines
by reducing its inaccuracies and biasness. Therefore knowledge of conducting
primary research is beneficial for filling this gap.

Characterization In A Good Man Is Hard To Find
Exploring the idea that all men are born sinners, O Connor demonstrates immoral
indulgences entertained by various characters. Readers are introduced to
grandmother, an elderly woman whose consistent unscrupulous behavior exhibits
her inner motives. Grandmother uses subtle, indirect confrontation to get her way
until she is faced with The Misfit, a runaway criminal who believes that crime is a
justifiable. In A Good Man Is Hard To Find, Flannery O Connor uses
characterization to display a loss of morals, imagery to portray evil in society, and
symbolism to emphasize the struggle of obtaining grace to prove how life is
nihilistic without religion. Characterization is used not only to amuse readers, but
to also display an understanding of human nature, in this case a decline in values.

they need to grow up as if their lives didn t matter as if they were rag dolls people

No victim is going to feel the same way, but one thing that could be the same is the
way they could end it. With that being said, there is no time for any games, people
are in danger and we are acting as if we have all the solutions in the world. The
truth is we don t, but if we all think a little harder and see a little bit clearer, the
things we can come up with could help end this once and for all. Whether bullying
concerns you or not, it is a topic that happens world wide and should not be
ignored. You or someone you love could be suffering from this and it is in
everyone s best interest to pay attention to what is happening around them. Being
well informed about this topic is imperative because although there are endless
amounts of programs supporting the cause, getting those being bullied to speak

64% of children who were bullied did not report it; only 36% reported the

be asking yourselves why I am so informed and deeply rooted on the fact that
bullying should be stopped, and that answer lies in the hard to swallow but true fact

Tsunami Of The Indian Ocean Tsunami Warning And
Mitigation...
Early in the morning of December 26, 2004, an earthquake rocked the floor of the
Indian Ocean. The 9.1 9.3 magnitude earthquake subsequently caused a series of
catastrophic tsunamis to hit the coasts of Indonesia, India, Sri Lanka, Thailand, and
South Africa. The destruction was devastating, causing just under $10 billion in
damage and an estimated $7 billion more in humanitarian aid. Although so much aid
was sent to the affected areas, ten years later some of the areas are still suffering
from the devastation. Looking back, the main cause of the devastation was the lack
of warning systems in place. Although some places like Indonesia may not have had
time to evacuate, many other affected areas had plenty of time but were completely
uninformed, being taken by surprise. Following the tsunamithe Indian Ocean
Tsunami Warning and Mitigation System was created and put into place. A lot can
be learned from the lack of warning and preparedness from this disaster in order to
better prepare for the future (History.com, Rodgers). Originally, the earthquake
registered at a 9.0 on the Richter scale it was later upgraded to a 9.1 9.3. Releasing
more energy than all the bombs dropped in WWII, it is the second highest earthquake
recorded in history, second to an earthquake in Chile which registered at a 9.5
(National Geographic). It lasted approximately ten minutes making it the longest
duration ever observed. This means that the entire Earth vibrated as much as half an

Santa Is Real Essay
Is Santa real? This is the one question that everyone asks at some point in their life.
I have been asking this for a long time. But I kept telling myself that he was real
because I wanted him to be real. The magical tale of Santa going to every house in
one night and leaving you presents was one of the most magical things and to know
that was real was something magical.
But secretly, I had a small feeling that Santa was not real. Every year I would see
more kids stop believing in Santa and I felt like I was standing in a world of darkness
which kept on getting darker and darker each year. But I still was not ready to say
that Santa was not real. I still wanted that little bit of magic in my life during the
last month of the year where all of my worries would disappear for a minute and all I
could see was Santa getting ready for Christmas up at the North Pole.
But I knew one day the day would come where I would be told that Santa wasn t real
and I would join everyone in the world of darkness where I could not hop into Santa

Australia And The White Australia Policy
Australia in terms of immigration, has had a poor history of dealing with people
travelling into the country, shown in the beginning of hand picking the majority of
Australia s population. However as the decades have rolled on, whether it be forced
or by choice, Australia has become looser and more free in access and treatment
within the country and importantly, less discriminatory. In order to see these
improvements, the start must be shown, in which is generally summarised by the
White AustraliaPolicy.
The White Australia policy introduced as the Immigration Restriction Act in 1901.
The policy was about changing Australia s population so that it was, like that of
Great Britain. The act was passed by the federal government of Australia
(Immi.gov.au, 2014). The policy was extremely supported and applauded by the
public, with Prime Minister Hughes in 1919 stating (this is) the greatest thing we
have achieved (Immi.gov.au, 2014).
The White Australia Policy is one of the most infamous acts passed in Australian
history. It discriminated against countless of different races. The policy was created
with the purpose to recreate the image of a White Australia . This was the old
approach taken by the Australian government to select immigrants from the white
countries like the United Kingdom and stop the entry of immigrants not from white
countries. Australia was following the example set by Great Britain, as shown in a
statement made by W.G. Spence If we keep the race pure,
The Is An Infectious Disease Carried By Mosquitos That...
Transgenic Fungi Malaria is an infectious disease carried by mosquitos that affects
humans. Genetically engineered fungus with genes for anti malarial antibodies
from humans may be useful in combating the disease. Pesticides already in use are
becoming ineffective. This method could also combat insect and tick bug
diseases. The researchers made this fungus by using an existing fungus that targets
mosquitos and genetically modifying it to have genes for malarial antibodies. The
antibody attacks the parasite which causes malaria. 3 separate groups of mosquitos
which carried the parasite which caused malaria. One of the groups was sprayed
with the fungus, another group sprayed with the wild type fungus and the last

The history of physics was changed by his discoveries and theories regarding electricity. People usually used electricity for magic tricks creating and sparks and shock. Instead of him learning how to do magic tricks, Benjamin was curious about what else he could do with electricity. Benjamin believed that electricity and lightning were the same because they both created light, made loud noises when they exploded and were attracted to metal. His hypothesis asserted that power was extremely one liquid, which could be available in abundance, or leaving from a body, accordingly clarifying its electrical charge. To prove his theory, he stood on a hill flying a kite with a key tied to it waiting for the lighting to strike. At the point when the lightning struck the kite, the capable jolt went down the string and charged the metal key. Franklin then touched the key and got a shock, in this manner demonstrating the presence of electricity. Benjamin Franklin felt the negative charges in the metal piece of the key that pulled into the positive charges when he grasped the key and felt a shock. He knew if a building was tall or high up on a hill, it was bound to get hit by lightning, so he invented a lightning rod which was made out of metal. The lightning rod would have a low resistance path of ground for lightning and prevent houses from burning. The lightning rod is an incredible conductor and enables the current to stream to the ground without causing any

By the start of the Byzantine Empire the legal profession was becoming well established and heavily regulated. Lawyers were more commonly studying law, along with continued studious study of rhetoric. It soon became a requirement for new advocates seeking admission into the court to produce testimonials from their teachers verifying their education. (Wikipedia). Egyptian force in the Arab world stems from the strength of its cultural life which makes it extremely difficult to be ignored. The book, Egypt under Mubarak features essays from seven different authors, which examine the causes and consequences of the many crises Egypthas faced. Mubarak comes into power taking upon himself the previous Egyptian political, sociological, and economic problems left by Sadat and Nasser. The present administration attempts to fix these problems by employing Egypt s significant resources in the forming of a distinct and effective international role. Vice President Hosni Mubarak succeeded Sadat as president. After Sadat ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The book touches on topics with a broad range from politics to economy to geography. The book is solely based on research of the Egyptian government from the time when Mubarak took power, 1981, up until the writing of the book which was in 1989. Throughout the book, 16 books are cited. Even though the book is based on the government under Mubarak, the writers refer to events that were held before Mubarak was put into power which helps the reader understand the important history behind the present. After each chapter, there are bibliographies as well as endnotes in some chapters listing the sources used in the passage. Except for the Chapter on the National Debt where his previous statements based on The Central Bank of Egypt, Cairo contradicts his final assessment of the sum. The writers of each section always tend to agree with the sources that they have cited. With this known, I was able to see that the writers in each chapter took into account the other writings of scholars that wrote on similar topics. Because of the writers many sources, they are able to give an unbiased look into the history of the Egyptian Government. They examine both the positive and negative aspects of Mubarak as President specifically laws he passes and actions he takes towards not only Egyptians, but also the Arab Israeli relationship, as well as foreign relations with Arab countries and the western world. INFORMATION NEEDS Target Markets At the center of any effective marketing strategy is the ability to define what makes a service unique and highly valuable to a given target market. When selling services, which are inherently intangible, the need exists for creating value quickly and with many forms of tangible proof of expertise sold. When selling information services the need to generate trust and a strong sense of value has to preclude any long term purchasing relationship (Laurence, 2001). Market Solutions needs to create a foundation of trust with the following target markets if their information services business is going to establish itself and thrive over time. Trust must be the foundation of the company for it to succeed in the segments it has chosen. These include automotive, banking, FMCG, food and beverages, hospitality services and telecommunication services industries. Each of these industries has unique information challenges or problems, yet all share a common interest in customer satisfaction analysis. The customer satisfaction analysis service will be offered to all of these industries, in addition to Ad Tracking. These two services are foundational for the successful operation of any business and will also serve over time to create a system of record, or master data management (MDM) platform that will illustrate each of these industries well. One of the most critical factors of success
  • 13. Dry Ice Lab Dry ice (solid CO2) forms when CO2 gas is cooled to 78.5В°C (at 1atm pressure) and is commonly used in refrigeration. A CO2 molecule is held together by strong covalent bonds, intramolecular bonds formed by non metal atoms sharing electrons to attain noble gas configuration. In CO2, two oxygen atoms are double bonded to a carbon atom (see figure 1). However, as CO2 is a covalent molecular substance, its intermolecular bonds are very weak. As a molecules of CO2 has no hydrogen bonds due to absence of hydrogen atoms, and no dipole dipole force as there is no electronegativity imbalance, they are held together by Van der Waals forces. Van de Waals forces are weak electrostatic forces caused by random movement of electrons, and contribute to the low sublimation point of solid CO2 as they require little heat energy to sever. Sublimation is a physical change where a substance ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Thus, as in SLC the temperature is significantly higher than the sublimation point of CO2, this combined with the initial diffusion of the gas means the volume of CO2 gas produced is significantly larger than the original solid CO2 volume as the space between the molecules of CO2 increases. The expansion factor of the CO2 can be calculated using the following equation: expansion factor=(volume of gas)/(volume of solid)Г—100 The volume of CO2 gas can be measured by capturing it in water. As CO2 is a non polar it has a very low solubility of approximately 0.78g/100mL of water at 24 В°C, very little gas dissolves into the water. Thus it is assumed that the measured volume of CO2 will be accurate. To calculate the volume of CO2 as solid, the density and mass of solid CO2 are used. Density (ПЃ) is a measure of a substance s mass per unit of volume (measured in g /cm3). The relationship between density, mass and volume is shown in the following formula:

High school can be an amazing time for people, just as easily as it could be a terrible time for people. It s quite odd how everyone goes to the same school, and mostly attend the same courses, yet they are significantly different from one another. Every school has the classic jocks, nerds, partiers/stoners, etc., but it appears our generation has created several new stereotypes. With students spending approximately 35 hours a week at school, it is easy for one another to label each other, and determine who they fit in with. The most common stereotype in Spring Lake is the Preppy Rich Kid. The Preppy part of these kids is that they love to wear a perfectly matching outfit; including their colorful Polo Shirts/t shirts, colorful short shorts, matching socks, with a matching pair of boat shoes/skate shoes. The Rich part of these kids is that they live in a big house on the water, their parents have high paying jobs, and their parents will buy them whatever they desire. These kids typically drive an expensive foreign car, usually blaring rap music out of their car s subwoofer everyday to school. Once they have arrived at school, most of them have a very enjoyable day. For the most part, they have a perfect life, including getting all the girls/boys, receiving good grades, being attractive, and being a phenomenal athlete. These kids are likable people, and

If this deal were to be approved, AT T would combine its millions of wireless and pay television subscribers with Time Warner s stable of TV networks and programming (Gryta). This potential merger has drawn many comparisons to Comcast s acquisition of NBC Universal in 2011. Despite the acquisition of NBC Universal successfully going through, U.S. regulatory officials and rivals have expressed concerns that some government conditions regarding Comcast s behavior, such as its requirement to not weigh in on strategic decisions at streaming service Hulu, were tough to monitor and enforce (Gryta). There are many similarities between my faith, Roman Catholicism and my non Catholic, group choice of Christian denomination, Jehovah s Witness. This branch of Christianity, Jehovah s Witnesses, was formed by the WatchTower Society and also founded by Jesushimself. Learning about a Christian Denomination has changed my perspective of Christianity through the Jehovah s Witnesses history, beliefs/rituals, sacraments and how they spread the message of God to others. The history and beliefs/rituals of the Jehovah Witness branch of Christianity has altered my perspective of Christianity in general. Since the beginning of the 19th century to the present day, the Jehovah s Witnesses have brought forth a different perspective about Christianity. The people of the Jehovah s Witnesses community believe that Jesus is not the messiah, and do not believe in the Holy Trinity. They believe that Jesus is not the one to worship because he is less than God too just as humans. This puts in perspective that God is the Father Almighty and no other person, or spirit is above him. Before learning about Jehovah s Witnesses, I did not think there was this many branches of Christianity. I also thought every Christianity denomination believed in the Holy Trinity as seeing The Father, The Son, and The Holy Spirit. This topic has impacted

They met on the empty field at the elementary school, there were about 3 other teams practicing at the same time but everyone was spread out. The coaches set up cones and pop up goals for the children. There were about 12 15 children there, I think they said a few kids weren t there. There were about four coaches or helpers working with the children. The first thing they did with the kids was a few warm up activities, the first being some sort of running activity where the children ran around following the coaches, next, they hopped in place being silly. Then the kids each got a ball and began a kicking exercise were the had to go around and try to kick the ball at the cones and knock them down. Then the kids got in a line with their ball and followed the leader around while dribbling the ball with both feet. In the next activity, the children got to practice kicking a stationary ball into the goal. After that, they played a 7 min practice game. At this point, many of the children were in the pre control level of proficiency because for most it is their first time playing soccer and I could definitely tell. There might have been a few activities where some children where at control level but it was very minimal. For example, during the kicking exercise, it was very hard for the kids to control where their ball was going.

As a Marxist geographer and anthropologist, Harvey analyzes modern capitalism through a lens of skepticism that results in a scathing renunciation of the capitalist goals of perpetual accumulation and creative destruction. Harvey argues that in a world constrained by scarce resources and burgeoning social barriers, the capitalist process produces a strange dynamic that oscillates between periods of crisis and boom (40). In the end the capitalist may be able to hedge against her losses, but the vast majority of the population will wallow in the doldrums, enslaved by the power of capital and unable to pull themselves up by their bootstraps. Such is the extent of the problem we face in the wake of the Great Recession. The economy continues to grow modestly, while median household income shrinks (Noss 2). Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... According to Denscombe (2007 cited by Saunders 2009), secondary data is not always presented in a form which would satisfy a researcher s needs. One of its main reasons is either the data is out dated or the methods of collecting that information would have been different which thus may offer information of very less value in fast changing market. Therefore it becomes important for a researcher to check the validity and reliability of the information. Another disadvantage of secondary research is that sometimes gaining access to secondary data becomes costly. According to Saunders (2009), market reports produced by big research firms like Mintel and Keynote costs a lot and thus researchers may not get the full version access to get full value of their research. 2.0 As per experts it is easy and quick to conduct secondary research but what makes people carry primary research? According to (Hague et.al 2008), the main reason for it is that people do not know how to locate the information and thus secondary research lays a base for primary research and thus helps in its increments. Primary research also increments the secondary data such as journals and magazines by reducing its inaccuracies and biasness. Therefore knowledge of conducting primary research is beneficial for filling this gap. During our research for presentation material on fragrances, although readily

  • 36. Characterization In A Good Man Is Hard To Find Exploring the idea that all men are born sinners, O Connor demonstrates immoral indulgences entertained by various characters. Readers are introduced to grandmother, an elderly woman whose consistent unscrupulous behavior exhibits her inner motives. Grandmother uses subtle, indirect confrontation to get her way until she is faced with The Misfit, a runaway criminal who believes that crime is a justifiable. In A Good Man Is Hard To Find, Flannery O Connor uses characterization to display a loss of morals, imagery to portray evil in society, and symbolism to emphasize the struggle of obtaining grace to prove how life is nihilistic without religion. Characterization is used not only to amuse readers, but to also display an understanding of human nature, in this case a decline in values. June Star is described as critical with a nasty motormouth. She is rude to everyone surrounding her although adults seem to find her charming; Ain t she cute? Red Sam s wife said leaning over the counter. Would you like to come be my little girl? No I certainly wouldn t, June Star said. I wouldn t live in a broken down place like this for a million bucks! and she ran back to the table. Ain t she cute? the woman repeated, stretching her mouth politely. Aren t you ashamed? hissed the grandmother (O Connor 121). In life, there are a multitude of ways to reply to various comments and she could have courteously declined. Her response allows her to be represented with an absence of
  • 37. Bullying Persuasive Essay Words are just words until someone uses those words against you, Rumors are just rumors until you re the one caught up in those lies, and the media is just the media until you re the one being tormented day after day. We live in a world where the definition of bullying is manipulated and excused. Now tell me one thing, how could you look into someones eyes and tell them that they have to suck it up that they need to grow up as if their lives didn t matter as if they were rag dolls people could throw around and hurt. They labeled it disease they labeled it mental disorder they even labeled them attention seekers, they were right on one thing... they are seeking, but it s not attention, it s help. Bullyingleads to self harm,... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... No victim is going to feel the same way, but one thing that could be the same is the way they could end it. With that being said, there is no time for any games, people are in danger and we are acting as if we have all the solutions in the world. The truth is we don t, but if we all think a little harder and see a little bit clearer, the things we can come up with could help end this once and for all. Whether bullying concerns you or not, it is a topic that happens world wide and should not be ignored. You or someone you love could be suffering from this and it is in everyone s best interest to pay attention to what is happening around them. Being well informed about this topic is imperative because although there are endless amounts of programs supporting the cause, getting those being bullied to speak up is still a great issue. In a study done by the National Bullying Prevention Center, 64% of children who were bullied did not report it; only 36% reported the bullying(2). We have all fallen into the hands of a bully at least once in our lives and I m tired of listening to the phrase make the world a better place when that should first start by making the people that live in it kinder to one another. You may be asking yourselves why I am so informed and deeply rooted on the fact that bullying should be stopped, and that answer lies in the hard to swallow but true fact that I too was bullied, I
  • 38. Tsunami Of The Indian Ocean Tsunami Warning And Mitigation... Early in the morning of December 26, 2004, an earthquake rocked the floor of the Indian Ocean. The 9.1 9.3 magnitude earthquake subsequently caused a series of catastrophic tsunamis to hit the coasts of Indonesia, India, Sri Lanka, Thailand, and South Africa. The destruction was devastating, causing just under $10 billion in damage and an estimated $7 billion more in humanitarian aid. Although so much aid was sent to the affected areas, ten years later some of the areas are still suffering from the devastation. Looking back, the main cause of the devastation was the lack of warning systems in place. Although some places like Indonesia may not have had time to evacuate, many other affected areas had plenty of time but were completely uninformed, being taken by surprise. Following the tsunamithe Indian Ocean Tsunami Warning and Mitigation System was created and put into place. A lot can be learned from the lack of warning and preparedness from this disaster in order to better prepare for the future (History.com, Rodgers). Originally, the earthquake registered at a 9.0 on the Richter scale it was later upgraded to a 9.1 9.3. Releasing more energy than all the bombs dropped in WWII, it is the second highest earthquake recorded in history, second to an earthquake in Chile which registered at a 9.5 (National Geographic). It lasted approximately ten minutes making it the longest duration ever observed. This means that the entire Earth vibrated as much as half an inch. This

But I kept telling myself that he was real because I wanted him to be real. The magical tale of Santa going to every house in one night and leaving you presents was one of the most magical things and to know that was real was something magical. But secretly, I had a small feeling that Santa was not real. But I still was not ready to say that Santa was not real. I still wanted that little bit of magic in my life during the last month of the year where all of my worries would disappear for a minute and all I could see was Santa getting ready for Christmas up at the North Pole. But I knew one day the day would come where I would be told that Santa wasn t real and I would join everyone in the world of darkness where I could not hop into Santa s magical world and be swept away in his sled around the world. This day came one rainy November day when I was in 9th grade. I was in high school. My world had turned upside down by change and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... But not like we thought. • 40. Australia And The White Australia Policy Australia in terms of immigration, has had a poor history of dealing with people travelling into the country, shown in the beginning of hand picking the majority of Australia s population. However as the decades have rolled on, whether it be forced or by choice, Australia has become looser and more free in access and treatment within the country and importantly, less discriminatory. In order to see these improvements, the start must be shown, in which is generally summarised by the White AustraliaPolicy. The White Australia policy introduced as the Immigration Restriction Act in 1901. The policy was about changing Australia s population so that it was, like that of Great Britain. The act was passed by the federal government of Australia (Immi.gov.au, 2014). The policy was extremely supported and applauded by the public, with Prime Minister Hughes in 1919 stating (this is) the greatest thing we have achieved (Immi.gov.au, 2014). The White Australia Policy is one of the most infamous acts passed in Australian history. It discriminated against countless of different races. The policy was created with the purpose to recreate the image of a White Australia . This was the old approach taken by the Australian government to select immigrants from the white countries like the United Kingdom and stop the entry of immigrants not from white countries. Australia was following the example set by Great Britain, as shown in a statement made by W.G. Spence If we keep the race pure,

Genetically engineered fungus with genes for anti malarial antibodies from humans may be useful in combating the disease. Pesticides already in use are becoming ineffective. This method could also combat insect and tick bug diseases. The researchers made this fungus by using an existing fungus that targets mosquitos and genetically modifying it to have genes for malarial antibodies. The antibody attacks the parasite which causes malaria. 3 separate groups of mosquitos which carried the parasite which caused malaria. One of the groups was sprayed with the fungus, another group sprayed with the wild type fungus and the last group weren t altered. Only a quarter of the mosquitos sprayed with the transgenic fungus still carried the parasite, and there was a 95% drop in parasite numbers on the mosquitos that still carried the parasite. 87% of the mosquitos sprayed with the wild type fungus still carried the parasite. 94% of the mosquitos from the group that wasn t sprayed carried the parasite. 240 million people are infected with malaria through insects carrying parasites annualy. 850 000 people lose their lives to malaria every year.
