Cold War Dbq
Consisting of 44 years of violence and civil unrest from 1947 to 1991, the Cold War was a huge
turning point in history. The Cold War however was a war of avoidance, not combat. Defence
systems were heavily funded as deterrence to actual war, the belief being a risk of mutual
annihilation would be too great to be the side to make the first move. However, the Cold Warcaused
a large variety of conflict and civil unrest around the world, such as the Korean War, Vietnam War
and the Cuban Missile Crisis. The War split the world into supporting either the United States, or
the USSR (Soviet Union). Both superpowers were associated with two very different political
systems; Capitalism and Communism. The Soviets were very concerned about the spread... Show

Many Americans believed that the war ravaged country of Vietnam, had to be resurrected from
grave. Beginning in 1964 and growing in later years, anti war protests began forming. Outrage from
civilians erupted when President Johnson issued the draft, as he felt the Americans needed to take a
more aggressive action against North Vietnam. Young men refused to join the fight and protests
emitted from college campuses and major cities such as Washington D.C. and New York. ((n.d.).

America had towards the war. By 1968, the whole country had felt the war s impact. When the war
finally ceased and the troops returned home, the protests, the actions by the government and the war
itself, had taken a toll on the country. America s opinions were sharply turned against the war. The
veterans who fought bravely in the war, returned to a nation that was bitter towards anything related
to the war. Today, a Vietnam War memorial has been erected in Washington, to honor those who

Causes And Failures Of Hurricane Katrina
Katrina Failures
In the wake of Hurricane Katrina, multiple failures exposed communication breakdowns, roles
and responsibilities. Civil unrest followed after local law enforcement, abandoned their legal
duties. Historically, the Posse Comitatus Act created barriers. These barriers slowed down the
response of federal support. The President and governor struggled over control of the National
Guard. The city of New Orleans suffered economically and through loss of life. With the pullout of
the police, they fell into a different category that called for implantation of martial law using an
outside policing force. The actions of Governor Blanco are ill prepared at most. Post Katrina in
Louisiana was painfully obvious as the total failure of state and federal government s anger looms
towards the revision of an outdated law.
Actions
The Posse Comitatus Act says that Whoever, except in cases and under circumstances expressly
authorized by the Constitution or Act of Congress, willfully uses any part of the Army or the
Air Force as a Posse Comitatus or otherwise to execute the laws shall be fined under this title or

Evaluation Of A Patient Observation
Critical assignment
Introduction
In January 2015 a patient observation was conducted on an inner city psychiatric male admission
ward commencing at 10.30 am and concluding at 11.30am. The observation was carried out by the
ward manager and the patient advice liaison service (PALS) manager.
The managers from the position of observer were critically analyzing differences of service
provision between a service and patient s perspective. The ward manager by reviewing the findings
will make recommendations for the service which builds on the positives and address any issues
which impact upon the patient care provided.
The staffing levels were fully established with the three qualified nurses, three health care support
workers, and one occupational therapist.
Analysis of patient experience
Nurse patient relationship
Acute psychiatric inpatient nursing is primarily focused on the assessment and treatment of patients
admitted in times of crisis. To effectively assess a patients needs a nurse requires an overview of the
patient s interactions with their external internal environment. Fundamental to this been successful
is the nurse patient relationship, forming a trusting relationship and maintaining this throughout the
patient s care. The nurse s ability to listen, talk and understand are identified as key to positive
patient experiences of feeling supported and cared for (Gilburt et al 2008).
During the observation it was noted that the majority of patient interactions

An Exploration Of The Modern American Hobo Through Memoir
Where have all the hobos gone to :
An Exploration of the Modern American Hobo Through Memoir
Perhaps you have heard about them in songs like Harry McClintock s Big Rock Candy
Mountain or John Prine s The Hobo Song . Maybe you ve read about them in the stories like
Horatio Alger s Tony, the Tramp or seen them depicted in animated cartoon shorts like Merry
Melodies Hobo Gadget Band . They go by a variety of names: hobo, tramp, vagabond, bum,
traveler. When asked to describe a hobo perhaps you recall the Norman Rockwell painting Hobo
and Dog complete with patchwork clothes, stick and bindle. Maybe you imagine a depression era
young man sitting in a box car or a villainous old transient out to cause harm. As John Prine s The

While this practice was somewhat tolerated, it was in contrast to the era s idea of the hard
working, self made man and was considered to be lazy and cowardly (995). Tramps were
demonized [by cultural elites who] failed to acknowledge the vital role [such a] mobile
population played in the project of US industrialization (997). A strange juxtaposition formed. The
idea that hard work always paid off was in stark contrast with the fact that there was a real lack of
consistent work opportunities. Instead of the upper class seeing the need for transiency in order for
these workers to survive, the tramp was seen as willfully living on the fringe of society and
removing themselves from fundamental American institutions (998). The upper and middle class
viewed the tramp as lacking work ethic and morality, giving rise to the stereotype that they
possessed the potential to be dangerous and wild (998). This was further epitomized by the
railroad strike of 1877. The violence of these strikes created a perfect situation to further the
stereotype of the dangerous and wild hobo, as Photinos describes in her article, The Tramp in
Gilded Age Success Narratives : Eighty thousand striking railroad workers were joined in the
streets of the nation s cities by thousands of other laborers suffering from repeated wage cuts as
well as by throngs of homeless and jobless.

The Importance of Family in The Farming of Bones by...
THE IMPORTANCE OF A FAMILY
Having a loving family is something that no child should live without. A loving family helps
shape your personality, and also helps instil good decision making in you. They also act as your
support system, when you are going through hard times. Lastly, they teach you about your heritage
and culture, this helps create a sense of belonging. These are just a few reasons why having a
loving family is something every child should have. This theme is shown through THE FARMING
OF BONES written by Edwidge Danticat.
A supportive family helps shape your personality and instils good decision making in you. In THE

abandoned you for a reason you are worthless! And know you bring in a child. I pray that child
doesn t turn out like you (Chapter 8. 167 168). Amabelle began to prostitute herself in order to
support herself and her child. If Amabelle had a supportive family she wouldn t have had to sleep
on the street and prostitute herself in order to take care of her daughter.
Lastly, a loving family helps teach you about your heritage and culture, this helps create a sense
of belonging. Amabelle s adoptive family was Dominican and she was Haitian. When Amabelle s
adoptive family would celebrate a traditional Spanish occasion they would bring Amabelle along
but she always knew that she wasn t wanted. These celebrations would emphasize the importance
of family. Amabelle would feel left out because she was Haitian and had a darker skin color then

Amabelle about traditional Haitian activities like voodoo. In this quote Amabelle speaks on how she

Emperor Qin Shi Huang Di’s Mausoleum
Qin Shi Haung Di was the first emperor of the Qin Empire in China during the 3rd century BCE.
Born in 261 BCE, Haung inherited the throne from his father at the early age of 13 and
showcased his ambitious spirit by unifying China and creating his empire (Swart 1984). While he
is known mostly for building the Great Wall of China, he also left quite a legacy when it comes
to his elaborate burial grounds. In 246 BCE, thirty six years before his death in 210 BCE, Emperor
Qin started planning the construction of his extravagant final resting place (Swart 1984). The
Emperor s mausoleum was essentially a small, underground city showcasing Qin s power and

only were the sculptures ornate and somewhat realistic especially for the time period they were
created in most of them were actually painted so they would be more colorful (Patel 2007).
Every terracotta warrior was painted after they were sculpted. What is most amazing about the
painting of the warriors was the fact that their color selection included purple. While there were
red and blue pigments that could be mixed, the ancient world never mastered a true purple color,
except for a brief time in China during the Qin and Han dynasties (Patel 2007). The color itself
was discovered in 1992 and is a purple barium copper silicate inorganic pigment that was
manmade in the early 3rd century BCE. Other than being painted onto terracotta warriors, this
unique color was also found on decorative pieces and pottery in Qin s tomb (Fitzhugh 1992). The
pigment created was described as a technological wonder, a complex synthetic compound made
before the invention of paper or any codified understanding of elemental chemistry (Patel 2007 p.

that was previously unknown about artistry in

Schwinn 28-Personal Narrative
When I reach my apartment, I park in the garage and lift the bike from the car. The bicycle frame

The Long Term Economic Growth
As a product of colonization, the limited industrial development in the colonized area is a global
issue. Because the widening gap between the rich and the poor between developing and developed
countries, is the root reason of most of the contradictions and conflicts between countries in the
contemporary world. And different level of industrialization caused the widening gap. So we can
say the limited industrial development caused by colonialism is a real issue behind many current
contradictions and conflicts. In order to reduce these conflicts and narrow the gap, the colonized
countries should make a breakthrough on its limited industrialization by focusing on its own
features resources and structures, and taking effective measures impoting foreign capital and
technology and establishing independent or joint scientific research and ventures, to gain a long
term economic growth. For the relation between the colonization and the limited industrialization in
colony, there are usually two views. One view is that people blame the colonizer were not willing
to promote the development of industryin the colony. The other view is that people emphasize it
was hard for the colonized to start the process of industrialization in the colony. In my opinion,
both of the views are reasonable, but neither of them is comprehensive. In order to demonstrate my
opinion on the relation, I choose British India and the Belgian Congo as two objects to analysis in

The United States Of America And Spain Essay
The late 1800s was a high tension and tumultuous time for both the United States of America and
Spain. Spanish Colonialism had long been receding from its once powerful stronghold in the 16th
and 17th centuries, and in the 1890s, the United States would make certain to diminish the last of
Spain s outlets. The precedent for the American, superpower perspective of the late 1800s is in
large part due to President James Monroe s Doctrine establishing the United Statesas the sole entity
of social, political, and economic interest in the Western Hemisphere. The Monroe Doctrine clearly
spells out that any territorial advances (or in this case, any territorial claims, whatsoever) would be
recognized as an act of aggression and the U.S. would act accordingly (hint, hint war). This
document shaped the United States as the sole enforcer of both commerce and democracy in the
Western Hemisphere in the minds of its constituents. Thusly, it is the least bit unusual to see
President McKinley asking to declare war against the Spanish in defense of his country s interest.
President William McKinleys Declaration of War is written to the Congress of the United States as
a plea to go to war in defense of American interests and the Cuban people. The document was
written in 1898, and its objective was simple: persuade Congress to allow him to declare war.
Although the document may shape William McKinley as a strong proponent of the now called
Spanish American War, he very much wished to

Slavery Vs Indentured Servants Essay
Slavery and Indentured servitude were vital to the success of the British colonies in several
different ways. The difference between slaves and servants is that slaves were owed for life or
until their master decided to let them leave or they died. Indentured servants were granted
freedom, safe passage to the country and land ownership after working the length of their
contract, as previously agreed upon. One of the main reasons slaves and indentured servants were
so vital to the British colonies is that they were cheap and effective labor. They were able to work
in the fields planting, fertilizing, watering and picking the crop when it was ready to be harvested
for consumption or profit. Due to the fast harvests, the Americans were able to... Show more content

In 1705 there were not many indentures servants anymore. The British colonies started hiring
slaves due to the fact that they were owned for life and they didn t have to be let go due to their
contracts expiring. Slaves also had less rights than indentured servants due to the changes in the
slave laws. The Americans justified enslaving Africans in several ways. The Americans thought
less of them; that they weren t even human but personal property to do with as they pleased.
These views all came in to account due to their skin color being darker. The American s thought
they were evil since they were so dark complected. That they were stupid and couldn t make their
own way in the world. They would make them work long hours in horrible conditions such as out
in field all day in the hot sun without breaks. Their living conditions were horrible, they weren t
allowed medical care and were not fed on a consistent basis. They were beaten, killed and many of
the women were sexually abused by their masters. Many of the slaves died due to malnourishment
and disease. The American colonists justified their actions by viewing that they were taking care of
them by providing food, shelter and a means to live by. That without them they would still be in

Analyzing Amazon s Market Situation
Situational Analysis Strengths By analyzing Amazon s market situation, there are several
strengths that encourage the opening of a drive thru grocery store in Toronto. The built in
feature of a drive thru will offer a less time consuming way for customers to shop for groceries,
providing more convenience. In a contemporary society, especially in Toronto, people have a
very busy lifestyle due to today s stressful work lifestyle. From research completed in 1999, more
than 25 million Americans, almost 20.5 percent of the total workforce, reported that they worked
at least 49 hours a week, and 11 million of those said they worked more than 59 hours a week
(Schabner, 2015). Today, this condition is not improved. Therefore, Amazon s drive thru grocery
store is providing a high efficiency alternative, where customers can order groceries online and
select a time to pick them up that fits within their schedule. Also, customers do not need cars
necessarily, they could arrive by bicycle or by foot, which means the service meets customers needs
better, since almost everyone could access this service. Meanwhile, compared with the traditional
grocery shopping, building the drive thru station is an important step of automation progress
(Heath, 2015). It is a way to improve the efficiency. Furthermore, Amazon is an electronic
commerce and cloud computing company, and it is the largest Internet based retailer in the United

The Chair Of Reniseneb
On display in The Metropolitan Museum is the Chair of Reniseneb, which was constructed in
1450 B.C. in Egypt during the New Kingdom period. The Chair of Reniseneb is a wooden chair
veneered with ebony, a heavy dark brown timber, and ivory, a hard creamy white substance. The
chair is made up of small pieces of woodthat is pieced together almost like a puzzle. Egyptian
trees did not grow big or thick, therefore big panels of wood needed to be imported which was
very expensive. Thus the Egyptian carpenters became really adapt in inlaid work made from
small pieces of variously colored wood or other materials. In Ancient Eygypt, the higher ranked
an individual was, the taller was the chair or furniture he sat on. The Chair of Reniseneb
belonged to the scribe Renyseneb, therefor the chair sits higher on beaded blocks. The legs of
the furniture were often carved in the form of animal legs or the hind parts of some animal such
as the lion. Therefore, the foot of the Chair of Reniseneb is shaped as an animal paw and the
legs of the chair are shaped similar to an animals leg. Both the legs and the feet are veneered with
ebony, a heavy dark brown color. The Egyptians enjoyed having cushions which were often were

These two novels are both feminist works, although each book leads to feminist problems
somewhat differently. Jane has a strong foundation in what woman deserve, as well as achieve

that Antoinette cannot have a feeling of cheerfulness and pleasure that Jane discovers near the end

Difference Between Stockholder And Stakeholders
Chapter 11
1.What is the difference between stockholder and stakeholders to a company
A company s stakeholders are individuals or groups with an interest, claim, or stake in the company,
in what it does, and in how well it performs. They include stockholders, creditors, employee
customers, the communities in which the company does business, and the general public.
A company s stockholders are usually put in a different class from other stakeholder groups, and
for good reason. Stockholders are legal owners and the providers of risk capital, a major source of
the capital resources that allow a company to operate its business. The capital that stockholders
provide to a company is seen as risk capital because there is no guarantee that stockholders will ever
recoup their investment and/or earn a decent return.
2.How ethics in any business responds to stakeholders concerns
The ethical issues that strategic managers confront cover many topics, but most are due to a
potential conflict between the goals of the enterprise, or the goals of individual managers, and the
fundamental rights of important stakeholders, including stockholders, customers, employees,
suppliers, competitors, communities, and the general public. Stakeholders have basic rights that

Kurt Cobain Research Paper
I d rather be hated for who I am, than loved for who I am not. Kurt Cobain was legendary in
music and he meant what he said. He never changed himself and that was seen throughout his life.
His resistance to change made him the influential person he was and created the spokesman for so
many young people that resented the culture of the day. Kurt was a fiery, impulsive, and rebellious
person in his childhood, in his musical success, and in his explosive, memorable end.
Everyone has a beginning, and for Kurt, his beginning was full of pain and started him on the
path that led to his demise. Kurt Cobain was born on February 20, 1967, in Hoquiam, Washington
to Donald Cobain and Wendy Cobain (McDougall 16). Kurt was a joyful kid, and he was a
fantastic artist. His art teacher at Aberdeen High School ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Around this time Kurt started taking drugs and alcohol, a choice that would eventually ruin his
life, but he also met a local band The Melvins (McDougall 29). The leader of this group Buzz
Osborne took Kurt to a punk rock concert, which changed the way Kurt saw music and
influenced most of his later works. After high school, Kurt began living on the streets as an
outcast and sometimes sleeping under bridges or on benches. He started taking any drugs that
were available to him and his life seemed like it was going nowhere (McDougall 34). However, no
one could have predicted that his musical talents would change music as we know it and he would
become one of the most influential artists ever. With Kurt s life seemingly becoming worthless, he
began to pursue music and that led to his most memorable success, Nirvana. Prior to Nirvana Kurt
had very little to no musical success, his first band, Fecal Matter, was started in 1986 and was
really nothing more than a small, insignificant Seattle garage band (McDougall 34). Fecal Matter

Edward Wallis Research Paper
In 1936, England s King George V died, leaving his eldest son, the Prince of Wales, to succeed
him as Edward VIII. The forty one year old new King had been known as an especially
womanizing prince and he was still unmarried when he assumed the throne on January 20, 1936.
His reign lasted a mere 325 days, ending in December the same year when he abdicated. He was
succeeded by his brother, who became George VI, father of the current reigning monarch,
Elizabeth II. Edward is perhaps best known for abdicating the throne in order to marry the woman
he loved, the American Wallis Warfield Simpson from Baltimore, Maryland. Wallis had been
divorced from her first husband in 1927 and she was married to her second husband, Ernest
Simpson, when she and... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Williams and Mort briefly mention that the marriage was largely supported by Americans, but
neither go into great detail. Williams s monograph includes information on Edward and Wallis s
early lives, how they met, and their deaths. The vast majority of the text focuses on the couple
during abdication crisis of 1936: Williams details the divorce of Wallis and Ernest, the King s
decision to marry Wallis, and the process of the abdication. While Williams did provide a few
examples of American headlines showing support for the marriage, she did not explore American
opinion of the marriage in depth. Instead, she used this mention of the American press to redirect
focus onto the agreement the British press made with the King to avoid mention of the
relationship. Mort, in his article, looks at letters to the king, primarily from women (some of
whom were Americans) expressing empathy for his situation, to consider public opinion on the
monarchy, with the aim of determining how public perception of the monarchy was changed by
Edward VIII s short reign and its dramatic end. Both of these authors do note the role the media
had in public opinion on the King s affair, but neither explore it in

Hobbes State Of Nature
Q1. Explain and evaluate Hobbes s argument that life in the state of nature is solitary, poor, nasty,
brutish, and short.
For Hobbes, there is no worse condition for men than to live in the state of nature, or for him: a
constant state of war (Hobbes, year: 41 de cive). Hobbes believed that, in the absence of an
absolute ruler men would kill each other as there exists a right of all to all. The proposed quote
sums up Hobbes s vision of society without government. However, it is less clear the extent to
which his view of humans, in such a state, is accurate or even applicable. This essay will firstly
explain Hobbes s pessimistic view of human nature; the main causes of conflict which lead to the
war of all against all (Hobbes, year:); and finally, his theory of natural rights and laws in the state of
nature. Then it will move on to evaluate the validity of his claim by showing contradictions and
problems to his theory and thus alternative views of human nature, and the applicability of his state
of nature taking into account his historical context and other societies.
In contrast with Plato s view of men as Zoon Politikon, Hobbes asks why humans cannot act more
like bees or ants. He sees humans in a ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Nevertheless, Hobbes does not believe humans are naturally bad, that the desires of men are in
themselves no sin (Hobbes, year: 113). Humans instead are fragile creatures, torn between reason
and passion and victims of the conditions that surround them. Reason allows us to think,
understand and evaluate using logic, whilst passions are hard to govern, take control over
individuals and may lead to harm of one self or others. Being fragile results in men being easily
broken, destroyed or threatened. It is the mere fact of being vulnerable that drives men to seek for
self preservation by whatever means, in an attempt to escape the summum malum: sudden and

Becoming A United States Citizen
Becoming a United States citizen is such a difficult task that many immigrants are crossing the
border illegally. Today, the naturalization process is a large controversial topic. To become a
citizen one has to go through a series of tests including topics about US government, language, and
civics. One has to be able to speak and understand English which can be extremely difficult as a
second language. Because it is so difficult to becoming a citizen or let alone enter a country with
certain permissions, immigrants are illegally crossing the border causing issues and tension with

Once immigrants become citizens they ultimately benefit society for everyone by paying taxes and
serving others. Making the naturalization process easier would create jobs for immigrants and help
them to live legally in the US safely. Some oppose this option because they believe citizens would
begin to overpopulate. Actually, the only number that would increase would be the number of
United States citizens, not the number of immigrants overall. Making the citizenship process easier
and simpler would accommodate the immigrants by making them eligible for jobs and legal,
steady income with all the benefits of a United States citizen. Because of the inability to find legal
labor as an illegal immigrant, many turn to human trafficking as an occupation. As stated by Tsin
Yen Koh, a graduate student from Harvard, Tightening immigration policies and controls increases
human trafficking. It becomes more difficult for labor migrants to enter and work in the
destination country legally. (Koh). Koh is explaining in this article that if the policies on one
entering the United States along with citizenship were loosened, trafficking would not be such a
major issue. Similarly, Marissa Urgate wrote in her Journal of Trauma Practice as a result of the
United States creating restrictions against illegal immigrants, they engage in labor jobs such as
prostitution and trafficking (Urgate). Making it easier to become a citizen would decrease human

Essay On Becoming A Recording Engineer
George Martin was the Beatles recording engineer during their 8 year career. George was the
man who gave life to much of the beatles music. He recorded them, mixed them, and mastered
them. He floated his own ideas into the music while simultaneously keeping it theirs. He is often
considered the fifth beatle due to his role in their music, as he rightly should. The career of a
recording engineer is one where a person can be creative and exercise his passion for music. In
the Recording Engineers line of work, there are two forms of employment. You can either work
in a large studio or work out of your home. Working in a Studio has its pros as well as its cons
just like working at home does. A studio job will mean you will have more work than your self
employed counterpart and more Engineers to work with. This is due to the fact that if the studio
you are working for is a reputable studio, then you will receive the fruits of said reputation.
Though, Working in a studio means you will work full time, or in some cases overtime, to meet a
deadline. Most will also work on holidays and weekends for the same reason. A self employed
Engineer will often set his own hours, but work less frequently. When they work, it is most often
out of their own home studio. This is why most self employed engineers... Show more content on

Unfortunately, far two many organizations are unaware and unprepared to deal with the impact of

Investigating Alcoholic Fermentation and the Affects of Yeast on Dough
Aim: The aim was simply to investigate whether or not yeast had any affect on causing dough to
rise when baked and to experiment with alcoholic fermentation eg. to see if it gave off carbon
dioxide.
Introduction: Following a few weeks of fermentation theory, groups of three to four were assigned
and told to conduct a series of experiments involving the affects of fermentation. My group
consisted of myself, Won Jin, Brendan and Sun Ho and we chose to investigate alcoholic
fermentation and the affects of yeast on dough, more specifically to see if yeast caused the dough

Through the Test Tube, we hoped that the Carbon Dioxide given off would travel through the tube
and turn the Lime Water (used as an indicator) into a milky colour. Without much surprise it did
and we could conclude that the Yeast did give off Carbon Dioxide, much like our previous
experiment (Carbon Dioxide given off by the Yeast causing the Dough to rise).
Conclusion: From our results I can safely assume that my Hypothesis was correct for both
experiments and I can now, for sure, say that Yeast does cause Dough to rise. Other than stating that
obvious fact, not much can be said for the first experiment other than we proved Yeast is extremely
important for making the Dough rise. Without the Yeast giving off Carbon Dioxide, the Dough
wouldn t rise. It would also be good to note that the Dough s sticky material traps the Carbon
Dioxide, causing the mound to rise.
For our Alcoholic Fermentation experiment, once again, my Hypothesis was right on the mark. The
Fermentation caused by the Yeast created heat, warming up the tube. Also it turns the sugar into
Alcohol and simply smelling the Test Tube, after the experiment, can also prove this as Alcohol has
a very distinctive smell, easily recognised. My third observation of this experiment showed that
Carbon Dioxide was given off, turning the Lime Water milky.

Product Development and Module Strategy
The product development and module strategy is the use of modules, or platforms, to communize
the unique brands in VW s portfolio. This approach is implemented within the production phase
where similar parts, technology and systems designs, equipment and knowledge are used in various
VW brands to attain cost savings in procurement, research and development, worker training. This
platform strategy was implemented primarily in Europe where production costs were soaring and
profits decreasing. It eliminated various corporate redundancies that had caused the sagging profits.
By borrowing design ideas from VW s other brands, they were able to utilize common suppliers and
eliminate unique sub structures that added considerable cost in money, time or technology. This
strategy allowed a strong technology/knowledge transfer between plants.
Multi brand Strategy
The multi brand strategy was produced from the desire to have a presence in multiple automotive
markets, and therefore capture a full range of the customer spectrum. In addition, it is a solution
for one of the negative consequences of the module strategy; it was found that by commonizing
(www.forbes.com) some of the lower VW brands (Seat and Skoda) that the VW brands were no
longer differentiated. Acquisition of Bentley and Bugatti in 1997 was a response to this issue, as
well as recent financial growth.

Nuclear Fission Impact
The Impact of Nuclear Fission and Reactors on the Environment
Overview
Nuclear fission is a reaction in which heavy nuclei, such as Uranium and Plutonium, are broken into
smaller nuclei releasing heat, which is transformed into another form of energy such as, mechanical
or electrical. For a long time people have been using nuclear fission as an efficient and sustainable
source of energy. However, the use of this form of energy is associated with a unique set of
consequences including environmental, social and ethical. In this paper I will discuss nuclear
energy and its impact on the environment.

There are tow types of waste produced from nuclear fission: high level waste and low level waste.
High level waste consists of used uranium rods that can no longer be used for energy or produced
into other elements. The majority of low level waste consists of water and used equipment from
the nuclear reactors. Both types of waste are highly toxic and it was estimated that about
200,000 cubic meters of low level waste and about 10,000 cubic meters of high level waste are

In addition to the cost, these wastes may affect future generation by escaping into the environment

Foundationos of Educational Technology
EEND 675B
March 1, 2016 We are excited to provide opportunities for improved learning and transformation of
the school experience. The Digital Learning Initiative (DLI) provides a method to blend traditional,
high functioning classrooms with personalized, technology rich digital classrooms making a
blended learning environment for our students. Educational trends support the need for students to
become fluent in researching and acquiring information, in being critical thinkers able to solve
problems, developing skills to communicate and work collaboratively, and to be innovators with
focus on fostering creativity. Technology tools and resources enhance the way we prepare our
students for their future college and career. Solid curriculum, innovative instruction, and digital
learning strategies both inside and outside of the classroom combine to create increased levels of
student engagement and learning.
This describes today s classroom and it surely has changed drastically from yesterday s
classroom. The above quote is taken directly from the Naperville School District 203 website in
regards to this year s launching of The Digital Learning Initiative (DLI). The 2015 2016 school
year marked Phase I of the initiative in which every high school student received a Chromebook. In
Phase II, the junior high

First Amendment Rights Case Study
Monday was a day that first amendment rights were tested at The University of Missouri. On
the University of Missouri a group of protesters camped out, and like any good journalist, Tim
Tai and another student reporter took on the case. Melissa Click, an assistant professor in the
communications department was captured in video on Monday saying, Who wants to help me
get this reporter out of here? I need some muscle over here. She directed this at Mark
Schierbecker. After this Schierbecker is heard saying, This is a public property. Responding to this
Click says, Yeah, I know, that s a really good one; I m a communication faculty, and I really get
that argument. But you need to go. You need to go. You need to go. (NBC) Tim Tai was then seen
arguing with Click. The journalism department said this, We applaud studentjournalists who were
working in a very trying atmosphere to report a significant story. Intimidation is never an
acceptable form of communication. This shows that what Click did was perceived as wrong and
should not have been said. (Washington Post)... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The group of student protesters did not put up a sign saying that media was not aloud, and nothing
said that the media couldn t be there. The journalists had the first amendment right to take pictures
and report on the story. The first amendment protects the freedom of press and should be enforced.
Click, as a communications director, should know that.
Protesters then blocked Tai s view and argued with him, eventually pushing him away. At one point,
they started a chant saying, Hey hey, ho ho, reporters have got to go.
I am documenting this for a national news organization, Mr. Tai told the protesters, adding that the
First Amendment protects your right to be here and mine. The protesters then called him unethical.
What is so hard about respecting our wishes? one protester

Argumentive Outline Essay
Argumentative Essay Outline Thesis: President Obama is trying to convince the United States
that was a whole we set each other apart as a nation. He tries to point out different issues in
American and explains new ideas to make the United States better as a strong government. A.
Supporting Argument: President Obama addresses the tragedy in Tucson by saying because of
this tragedy it made the country focus less on the public debate and reminded us how important
we as a whole are and not so much on our personal views and preference. 1. Evidence: But there s
a reason the tragedy in Tucson gave us pause. Amid all the noise and passion and rancor of our
public debate. Tucson reminded us that no matter who we are or where we come... Show more

C. Supporting Argument: Obama states that Race to the Top was the best improvement for
public schools in a generation. He also said that this idea was created by the Republicans and
Democratic and if they continue this approach, Race to the Top can replace No Child Left
Behind law that former President Bush created. 1. Evidence: Race to the Top is the most
meaningful reform of our public schools in a generation. For less than 1 percent of what we
spend on education each year, it has led over 40 states to raise their standards for teaching and
learning. And those standards were developed, by the way, not by Washington, but by the
Republican and Democratic governors throughout the country. And Race to the Top should be
the approach we follow this year as we replace No Child Left Behind with a law that s more
flexible and focused on what s best for our kids. (Applause.) 2. Claim: Obama states that Race to
the Top was not just created by the Democratic governors but also by the Republicans. He is
trying to convey the republicans to agree his new approach to reform public schools and replace
No Child Left Behind that former President Bush made. He is trying to convince President Bush
former supporters to agree with his idea and gain their support. 3. Connection: Obama uses errors
of omission because by him stating that he wants to replace No Child Left

Social Comparison Theory Analysis
The Social Comparison theory can be applied to how beauty standards in television have an effect
on how children view themselves and the world. The theory describes that individuals make
judgments about themselves based on the comparison they view on television. In the theory there
are two types of comparisonsto be made: upward comparisons and downward comparisons. This
analysis will focus on upward comparisons as it is best applied to how beauty standards in
television affects the way children view the world. In upward comparisons an individual compares
him/herself with others who they feel are better than them. This comparisoncan only lead to on of
two things, the individuals will try to self enhance themselves the better conform to the... Show

There are three main components of this theory: attention, retention, and motivation. A child is
exposed to a crime, an act of violence, or some sort of injustice; this is the attention portion of the
theory. Viewing these acts expands their behavioral options and discover the consequence or reward
for such actions. In the retention portion of this theory, the learned images that a child has viewed
is internalized. The cognitive function of memory enables us to reenact that vivid image of
violence. The theory suggests we can live vicariously through these images; we may never reenact
them in reality, but we have been exposed to them.) This constant exposure and mental reenactment
of violence lead to desensitization to these injustices because they are familiar. In the motivation
portion of the theory we calculate how imitating these violent acts would pan out in reality. The
viewer weighs the rewards or punishments of these actions. Motivation comes from the expectation
of future reward or punishment; both internal and external rewards are played out in the viewer s

Authority In The Muslim World
The topic of religious authority in the Muslim world has been a debate since the beginning of early
Islam. The debate of authority was centralized over who was able to elucidate the meaning of the
texts of revelation. Over time, the superiority of who had the right to interpret the religious texts
and guide the community changed from the pre modern to the modern period.
The fuqaha were elite religious scholars, or members of a wealthy family, that rose to power in
700 (Lecture, October 19). The fuqaha understood collective responsibility by the use of Fard al
kifayah, which represents a ritual obligation a Muslim community can fulfill for the whole

Warith Deen Muhammad is a neo traditional social reformer that based his views of how to

thought. He also emphasized economic reform and economic empowerment. Revivalists break
from Muhammad Abduh s movement and focused on rational individual s interpretations of the
Qur an and Hadith. They also create their own systems of welfare so they are not dependent on
the state. Revivalism is different from the other trends because it focuses on the individuals and
emphasizes the ability of anybody to read the Qur an and Hadith and decide what they are

on the individual and not the collective. Violent Revivalism represents the groups such as ISIS

This can improve the public safety and provide more reliable economical feature. Eventually, the
increased awareness of the economic and social effects of such degradation especially under

Hip Bursitis Research Paper
Greater Trochanteric Pain Syndrome
The medical definition of bursitis is an inflammation or irritation of the bursa, which is a small,
fluid filled sac found in articulation. Inflammation occurs from the decrease of friction of the bursa
between the bones, muscles, and skin. Bursitis can be an acute or chronic condition. Acute bursitis
are often a result from an infection or injury, while chronic bursitis are caused by long periods of
repetitive motion or use of the affected joint. The most common sites include the elbow, hip,
shoulder, knee, heel and even the base of the big toe.
Greater Trochanteric Pain Syndrome (formally known as Trochanteric Bursitis, or GTPS for short)
is a hip bursitis which distresses the superficial trochanteric bursa located over the greater trochanter
of the femur. Inflammation of the trochanteric bursa is due to muscles and tendons rubbing over
the bursa causing friction against the femur. This ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Rest, cold therapy and non steroidal anti inflammatory drugs (NSAIDS), such as aspirin and
ibuprofen, are most effective to reduce inflammation stemming from injury and overuse.
Combination of physical therapy and activity modification are recommended for proper

the event of a septic hip bursitis, an infection of the bursa, the doctor may perform an aspiration,
in which a needle and syringe is used to remove fluid from the bursa followed by a prescription of
antibiotics to prevent the spread of infection. If rest, physical therapy and NSAIDs are no longer
effective in relieving the pain, then corticosteroid injections are administered. Although surgery is
rarely needed, it may be warranted with some chronic hip bursitis. The three types of surgery most
often used are tendon repair and iliotibial band release, osteotomy of the greater trochanter and

A Good Man Is Hard To Find Grandmother Character Analysis
The grandmother who was not named in the Story A Good Man is Hard to Find, by Flannery O
Connor, had a larger than life personality and she likes to pass judgement on to others. This
character lived with her son Bailey, her daughter in law and her two grandchildren in the state of
Georgia. The grandmother is the main character in this story, she is smart, ladylike, judgmental, and
the whole story revolves around her.
My favorite character in the story is the grandmother. She brings out the characteristics of an old
southern woman. The first thing that grabbed my attention about this character is when she marked
down the mileage on the car. This shows her smartness and attentiveness. It is a unique trait and she
thinks ahead of everyone. The grandmother wrote this down because she thought it would be

Ancient Mystery of Malaria
Ancient Mystery of Malaria
Malaria is a disease that has wrought history since the dawn of time itself. It has conquered some of
the mightiest warlords in history including Tutankhamen, Alexander the Great, Attila the Hun and
Genghis Khan. The earliest records of malaria symptoms date back to 2700 BCE, first described in
the Nei Ching, an ancient Chinese medical script. The Chinese described the prominent symptoms
of malaria, discussing the connection between recurring fevers and enlarged spleens. In 1550
BCE the Ebers Papyrus, an ancient Egyptian medical script, mentioned patients suffering from
fevers, shivering, vomiting, convulsions and also enlarged spleens. In 600 BCE records of
malaria like fevers rampant in Mesopotamia were found documented on cuneiform tablets. By 400
BCE the symptoms of malaria became widely recognizable in Ancient Greece, where malaria was
held responsible for huge population declines in large cities and states. Hippocrates, traditionally
regarded as the father of modern medicine, documented the main symptoms of malaria and made
extensive notes in the literature of the time. He was also the first to recognise the relationship
between occurrences of fevers and close proximity to stagnant waters. The Romans also discovered
this connection between fevers and swampy marshes and notably pioneered the first preventative
efforts against malaria by draining these swamps. Thus from the medieval Italian language the term
malaria was coined: mala aria

Juror Ten s Twelve Angry Man
Everything have conclusion, before people make their conclusion they have to be thoughtful,

status, personal experience about family issue, or they can be thoughtless, when they make
unfair conclusion for others. Those people had same issue, they jumping to conclusion, which is
never the best way to find anything out. The conversation between Juror Four and Juror Ten

Juror Four points out that Children from slum backgrounds are potential menaces to society
(Rose 48), Juror Ten strongly agrees with Juror Four s idea he supports that The kids who crawl
outa those places are real trash (48). From my personal opinion, both Juror Four and Juror Ten
jumping to conclusion, because of the boy was born from the slum, which accept the
consequence, they took colored eyes to looked at the group of people from slum, that the people
from those place must be the ones do the bad things. Which was unfair for the boy, because they

Narrative In Rashomon
The Curious Case of Rashomon
When a samurai is murdered and his wife is raped in the woods it is necessary for the courthouse
to find the murderer and bring punishment upon him according to the law. Albeit this is seemingly
a typical murderer solving case film it is the method of narration that makes the film differ from
others. Rashomon is a famous Japanese film by Akira Kurosawa that tells a story of the same
circumstance in four different versions according to the story teller. This particular type of narrative
is so intriguing resulting for it to become its own effect. Not only is Rashomon famous for its
narrative but also how it reflects and reveal many aspects about truth and lies.
While it may not look like it, it can be seen that there are three main frames to this narrative. The
big story or the main frame of narrative is at the gate of Rashomon where a woodcutter, a priest,
and a commoner are discussing the samurai s murder cases. The woodcutter begins the film by
telling the background and the general story about the cause of his confusion about the case. The
second frame narrative is consists of the bandit s story, the wife s story, and the samurai s story told
through a medium. In between each of the flashbacks the film returns to its main narrative of the
film at the gate of Rashomon with the mean discussing each of the accounts. However, thinking
about it closely it can also be said that the story the woodcutter is telling about the three suspects is

  • 2. Cold War Dbq Consisting of 44 years of violence and civil unrest from 1947 to 1991, the Cold War was a huge turning point in history. The Cold War however was a war of avoidance, not combat. Defence systems were heavily funded as deterrence to actual war, the belief being a risk of mutual annihilation would be too great to be the side to make the first move. However, the Cold Warcaused a large variety of conflict and civil unrest around the world, such as the Korean War, Vietnam War and the Cuban Missile Crisis. The War split the world into supporting either the United States, or the USSR (Soviet Union). Both superpowers were associated with two very different political systems; Capitalism and Communism. The Soviets were very concerned about the spread... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Many Americans believed that the war ravaged country of Vietnam, had to be resurrected from grave. Beginning in 1964 and growing in later years, anti war protests began forming. Outrage from civilians erupted when President Johnson issued the draft, as he felt the Americans needed to take a more aggressive action against North Vietnam. Young men refused to join the fight and protests emitted from college campuses and major cities such as Washington D.C. and New York. ((n.d.). Retrieved from http://www.texasgateway.org) and ((n.d.). By 1968, the whole country had felt the war s impact. When the war finally ceased and the troops returned home, the protests, the actions by the government and the war itself, had taken a toll on the country. America s opinions were sharply turned against the war. The veterans who fought bravely in the war, returned to a nation that was bitter towards anything related to the war. Today, a Vietnam War memorial has been erected in Washington, to honor those who sacrificed their life for their country. As shown in ((n.d.). Retrieved from http:/ /www.english.illinois.edu), the Vietnam Veterans Memorial was built to honor the U.S defence members who died in service in South East Asia. As a result, the social ... • 3. Causes And Failures Of Hurricane Katrina Katrina Failures In the wake of Hurricane Katrina, multiple failures exposed communication breakdowns, roles and responsibilities. Civil unrest followed after local law enforcement, abandoned their legal duties. Historically, the Posse Comitatus Act created barriers. These barriers slowed down the response of federal support. The President and governor struggled over control of the National Guard. The city of New Orleans suffered economically and through loss of life. With the pullout of the police, they fell into a different category that called for implantation of martial law using an outside policing force. The actions of Governor Blanco are ill prepared at most. Post Katrina in Louisiana was painfully obvious as the total failure of state and federal government s anger looms towards the revision of an outdated law. Actions The Posse Comitatus Act says that Whoever, except in cases and under circumstances expressly authorized by the Constitution or Act of Congress, willfully uses any part of the Army or the Air Force as a Posse Comitatus or otherwise to execute the laws shall be fined under this title or imprisoned not more than two years, or both. Maybe you ve read about them in the stories like Horatio Alger s Tony, the Tramp or seen them depicted in animated cartoon shorts like Merry Melodies Hobo Gadget Band . They go by a variety of names: hobo, tramp, vagabond, bum, traveler. When asked to describe a hobo perhaps you recall the Norman Rockwell painting Hobo and Dog complete with patchwork clothes, stick and bindle. While this practice was somewhat tolerated, it was in contrast to the era s idea of the hard working, self made man and was considered to be lazy and cowardly (995). Tramps were demonized [by cultural elites who] failed to acknowledge the vital role [such a] mobile population played in the project of US industrialization (997). A strange juxtaposition formed. The idea that hard work always paid off was in stark contrast with the fact that there was a real lack of consistent work opportunities. Instead of the upper class seeing the need for transiency in order for these workers to survive, the tramp was seen as willfully living on the fringe of society and removing themselves from fundamental American institutions (998). The upper and middle class viewed the tramp as lacking work ethic and morality, giving rise to the stereotype that they possessed the potential to be dangerous and wild (998). This was further epitomized by the railroad strike of 1877. The violence of these strikes created a perfect situation to further the stereotype of the dangerous and wild hobo, as Photinos describes in her article, The Tramp in Gilded Age Success Narratives : Eighty thousand striking railroad workers were joined in the streets of the nation s cities by thousands of other laborers suffering from repeated wage cuts as well as by throngs of homeless and jobless. ... Born in 261 BCE, Haung inherited the throne from his father at the early age of 13 and showcased his ambitious spirit by unifying China and creating his empire (Swart 1984). While he is known mostly for building the Great Wall of China, he also left quite a legacy when it comes to his elaborate burial grounds. In 246 BCE, thirty six years before his death in 210 BCE, Emperor Qin started planning the construction of his extravagant final resting place (Swart 1984). Artistically, Emperor Qin final resting place is a goldmine of information. Not only were the sculptures ornate and somewhat realistic especially for the time period they were created in most of them were actually painted so they would be more colorful (Patel 2007). Every terracotta warrior was painted after they were sculpted. What is most amazing about the painting of the warriors was the fact that their color selection included purple. While there were red and blue pigments that could be mixed, the ancient world never mastered a true purple color, except for a brief time in China during the Qin and Han dynasties (Patel 2007). The color itself was discovered in 1992 and is a purple barium copper silicate inorganic pigment that was manmade in the early 3rd century BCE. Other than being painted onto terracotta warriors, this unique color was also found on decorative pieces and pottery in Qin s tomb (Fitzhugh 1992). The pigment created was described as a technological wonder, a complex synthetic compound made before the invention of paper or any codified understanding of elemental chemistry (Patel 2007 p. 25). Still, I realize these excuses won t fly with Doris or Zak. So, when she knocks at my front door, I greet her dressed, and in a cheerful mood. She s pleased, and promises to prepare macaroni and cheese for dinner if I practice an hour longer with no complaints. No problem. I grab a granola bar and drink my protein shake. The food s a temporary fix that does little to ease the drudgery of bike practice. In fact, halfway through my practice, it looks as if my tasty reward of homemade mac cheese is out of reach. Since more often than not, I touch my feet to the pavement over and again. And my stamina has peaked. So much so, that I stop and lay my head on the handlebars and curse. Thank god nobody is near enough to hear me. Minutes later, a second wind kicks in. I pedal determined to round the corner. At last, I turn right and see Doris who has her arms overhead and waving at me. Her enthusiasm ignites me, and I pedal with all my might to reach her. However, when I do, I gasp for air. • 10. The Long Term Economic Growth As a product of colonization, the limited industrial development in the colonized area is a global issue. Because the widening gap between the rich and the poor between developing and developed countries, is the root reason of most of the contradictions and conflicts between countries in the contemporary world. And different level of industrialization caused the widening gap. So we can say the limited industrial development caused by colonialism is a real issue behind many current contradictions and conflicts. In order to reduce these conflicts and narrow the gap, the colonized countries should make a breakthrough on its limited industrialization by focusing on its own features resources and structures, and taking effective measures impoting foreign capital and technology and establishing independent or joint scientific research and ventures, to gain a long term economic growth. For the relation between the colonization and the limited industrialization in colony, there are usually two views. One view is that people blame the colonizer were not willing to promote the development of industryin the colony. The other view is that people emphasize it was hard for the colonized to start the process of industrialization in the colony. In my opinion, both of the views are reasonable, but neither of them is comprehensive. • 12. The United States Of America And Spain Essay The late 1800s was a high tension and tumultuous time for both the United States of America and Spain. Spanish Colonialism had long been receding from its once powerful stronghold in the 16th and 17th centuries, and in the 1890s, the United States would make certain to diminish the last of Spain s outlets. The precedent for the American, superpower perspective of the late 1800s is in large part due to President James Monroe s Doctrine establishing the United Statesas the sole entity of social, political, and economic interest in the Western Hemisphere. The Monroe Doctrine clearly spells out that any territorial advances (or in this case, any territorial claims, whatsoever) would be recognized as an act of aggression and the U.S. would act accordingly (hint, hint war). This document shaped the United States as the sole enforcer of both commerce and democracy in the Western Hemisphere in the minds of its constituents. Thusly, it is the least bit unusual to see President McKinley asking to declare war against the Spanish in defense of his country s interest. President William McKinleys Declaration of War is written to the Congress of the United States as a plea to go to war in defense of American interests and the Cuban people. The document was written in 1898, and its objective was simple: persuade Congress to allow him to declare war. The difference between slaves and servants is that slaves were owed for life or until their master decided to let them leave or they died. Indentured servants were granted freedom, safe passage to the country and land ownership after working the length of their contract, as previously agreed upon. One of the main reasons slaves and indentured servants were so vital to the British colonies is that they were cheap and effective labor. The Americans thought less of them; that they weren t even human but personal property to do with as they pleased. These views all came in to account due to their skin color being darker. The American s thought they were evil since they were so dark complected. That they were stupid and couldn t make their own way in the world. • 15. Analyzing Amazon s Market Situation Situational Analysis Strengths By analyzing Amazon s market situation, there are several strengths that encourage the opening of a drive thru grocery store in Toronto. The built in feature of a drive thru will offer a less time consuming way for customers to shop for groceries, providing more convenience. In a contemporary society, especially in Toronto, people have a very busy lifestyle due to today s stressful work lifestyle. From research completed in 1999, more than 25 million Americans, almost 20.5 percent of the total workforce, reported that they worked at least 49 hours a week, and 11 million of those said they worked more than 59 hours a week (Schabner, 2015). Today, this condition is not improved. Therefore, Amazon s drive thru grocery store is providing a high efficiency alternative, where customers can order groceries online and select a time to pick them up that fits within their schedule. Also, customers do not need cars necessarily, they could arrive by bicycle or by foot, which means the service meets customers needs better, since almost everyone could access this service. Meanwhile, compared with the traditional grocery shopping, building the drive thru station is an important step of automation progress (Heath, 2015). It is a way to improve the efficiency. • 20. Difference Between Stockholder And Stakeholders Chapter 11 1.What is the difference between stockholder and stakeholders to a company A company s stakeholders are individuals or groups with an interest, claim, or stake in the company, in what it does, and in how well it performs. They include stockholders, creditors, employee customers, the communities in which the company does business, and the general public. A company s stockholders are usually put in a different class from other stakeholder groups, and for good reason. Stockholders are legal owners and the providers of risk capital, a major source of the capital resources that allow a company to operate its business. The capital that stockholders provide to a company is seen as risk capital because there is no guarantee that stockholders will ever recoup their investment and/or earn a decent return. 2.How ethics in any business responds to stakeholders concerns The ethical issues that strategic managers confront cover many topics, but most are due to a potential conflict between the goals of the enterprise, or the goals of individual managers, and the fundamental rights of important stakeholders, including stockholders, customers, employees, suppliers, competitors, communities, and the general public. For Hobbes, there is no worse condition for men than to live in the state of nature, or for him: a constant state of war (Hobbes, year: 41 de cive). Hobbes believed that, in the absence of an absolute ruler men would kill each other as there exists a right of all to all. The proposed quote sums up Hobbes s vision of society without government. However, it is less clear the extent to which his view of humans, in such a state, is accurate or even applicable. This essay will firstly explain Hobbes s pessimistic view of human nature; the main causes of conflict which lead to the war of all against all (Hobbes, year:); and finally, his theory of natural rights and laws in the state of nature. Then it will move on to evaluate the validity of his claim by showing contradictions and problems to his theory and thus alternative views of human nature, and the applicability of his state of nature taking into account his historical context and other societies. Biology Lab Report Investigating Alcoholic Fermentation and the Affects of Yeast on Dough Aim: The aim was simply to investigate whether or not yeast had any affect on causing dough to rise when baked and to experiment with alcoholic fermentation eg. to see if it gave off carbon dioxide. Introduction: Following a few weeks of fermentation theory, groups of three to four were assigned and told to conduct a series of experiments involving the affects of fermentation. My group consisted of myself, Won Jin, Brendan and Sun Ho and we chose to investigate alcoholic fermentation and the affects of yeast on dough, more specifically to see if yeast caused the dough to rise in anyway. Through the Test Tube, we hoped that the Carbon Dioxide given off would travel through the tube and turn the Lime Water (used as an indicator) into a milky colour. Without much surprise it did and we could conclude that the Yeast did give off Carbon Dioxide, much like our previous experiment (Carbon Dioxide given off by the Yeast causing the Dough to rise). Conclusion: From our results I can safely assume that my Hypothesis was correct for both experiments and I can now, for sure, say that Yeast does cause Dough to rise. Other than stating that obvious fact, not much can be said for the first experiment other than we proved Yeast is extremely important for making the Dough rise. Without the Yeast giving off Carbon Dioxide, the Dough wouldn t rise. It would also be good to note that the Dough s sticky material traps the Carbon Dioxide, causing the mound to rise. For our Alcoholic Fermentation experiment, once again, my Hypothesis was right on the mark. The Fermentation caused by the Yeast created heat, warming up the tube. Also it turns the sugar into Alcohol and simply smelling the Test Tube, after the experiment, can also prove this as Alcohol has a very distinctive smell, easily recognised. My third observation of this experiment showed that Carbon Dioxide was given off, turning the Lime Water milky. I cannot say I ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

This approach is implemented within the production phase where similar parts, technology and systems designs, equipment and knowledge are used in various VW brands to attain cost savings in procurement, research and development, worker training. This platform strategy was implemented primarily in Europe where production costs were soaring and profits decreasing. It eliminated various corporate redundancies that had caused the sagging profits. By borrowing design ideas from VW s other brands, they were able to utilize common suppliers and eliminate unique sub structures that added considerable cost in money, time or technology. This strategy allowed a strong technology/knowledge transfer between plants. The grandmother is the main character in this story, she is smart, ladylike, judgmental, and the whole story revolves around her. My favorite character in the story is the grandmother. She brings out the characteristics of an old southern woman. The first thing that grabbed my attention about this character is when she marked down the mileage on the car. This shows her smartness and attentiveness. It is a unique trait and she thinks ahead of everyone. The grandmother wrote this down because she thought it would be interesting to say how many miles they had ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... She was dressed in her best clothes. However she deceives them by telling them about a plantation she visited when she was young and colored it into a beautiful place until the children bought into to her idea. The back road they took led them into the hands of The Misfit and their demise. The grandmother murmured that, It would be very educational for them. (O Connor, 313.). Bailey gave in to the whole persuasiveness and followed the dirt road that led them into the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 52. Ancient Mystery of Malaria Ancient Mystery of Malaria Malaria is a disease that has wrought history since the dawn of time itself. It has conquered some of the mightiest warlords in history including Tutankhamen, Alexander the Great, Attila the Hun and Genghis Khan. The earliest records of malaria symptoms date back to 2700 BCE, first described in the Nei Ching, an ancient Chinese medical script. The Chinese described the prominent symptoms of malaria, discussing the connection between recurring fevers and enlarged spleens. In 1550 BCE the Ebers Papyrus, an ancient Egyptian medical script, mentioned patients suffering from fevers, shivering, vomiting, convulsions and also enlarged spleens. In 600 BCE records of malaria like fevers rampant in Mesopotamia were found documented on cuneiform tablets. By 400 BCE the symptoms of malaria became widely recognizable in Ancient Greece, where malaria was held responsible for huge population declines in large cities and states. Hippocrates, traditionally regarded as the father of modern medicine, documented the main symptoms of malaria and made extensive notes in the literature of the time. He was also the first to recognise the relationship between occurrences of fevers and close proximity to stagnant waters. The Romans also discovered this connection between fevers and swampy marshes and notably pioneered the first preventative efforts against malaria by draining these swamps. Thus from the medieval Italian language the term malaria was coined: mala aria ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
