2. Interfaith Boundaries In Yugoslavia
#7 Explain the interfaith boundaries created when the former Yugoslavia dissolved and what conflict
these caused. Be specific.
Yugoslavia was a unified body of six southeastern countries. Serbia and Bosnia Herzegovina are a few
of the provinces that made up Yugoslavia. Tensions arose after the assassination of Archduke Franz
Ferdinand in Sarajevo, the capital of Bosnia Herzegovina, which initiated the beginning of World War
II. During WWII, Yugoslavia was under the rule of Communist Dictator Josip Tito. The first to
successfully implement national communism, Marshal Tito united the provinces of Yugoslavia. After
the death of Josip Tito in the year 1980, the national identity fell apart; the various Yugoslav republics

The usually quoted equation is: All sources cite the arrangement of a basic halide, for instance, Mg

The Metaphor of the Melting Pot Peggy Ruth Geren The melting pot has been used metaphorically to
describe the dynamics of American social life. In addition to its descriptive uses, it has also been used
to describe what should or should not take place in American social life. How did the term originate?
How was it used originally? How is it used in contemporary society? What are some problems with
the idea of the melting pot? How is public education connected to the idea of the melting pot? How
does the melting pot function in American cultural and political ideology? These are some of the
questions considered in the following discussion. The Statue of Liberty is by now a universally

society. Formal schooling was not systematic in America in the mid 1800s, despite the regional efforts
of strong advocates for public education. There were wide regional and cultural differences in
attitudes toward the idea of tax supported, systematic formal schooling based upon a common
curriculum. Various religious groups had established schools for the perpetuation of their theology and
culture, especially in the mid Atlantic and Northern states. These groups were fearful of relinquishing
responsibility to political authority. In the Southern states, slavery and a strong caste system were
impediments to the development of public schools (p. 97). The influx of huge numbers of immigrants
exacerbated religious and cultural tensions and engendered conflicts with American workers who were
fearful for their jobs. This volatile situation created even more support for systematic public education

The Age of Absolutism, ranging from 1550 1800, was a period of time where monarchs successfully
gathered wealth and power of states thus allowing the world to witness the emergence of the Absolute
Monarch . The beginning of the absolutism unarguably originated in Spain with King Philip II who
remained in power for 42 years, claiming he ruled by divine right. Philip II not only extended Spain s
power during his time as an absolute monarch but also led Spain through a Golden Age from the years
1550 1650. Philip II founded academies of both mathematics and science leading to an increase in
education and was also an avid patron of the arts which helped Spain prosper during this golden age

Louis XIV also pressured the whole senior nobility to spend copious amounts of time at Versailles as a

Federal Radar
On the morning of November 14, Sharon Taylor, Space Warning Network (SPAWN) Program
Manager, was getting ready for a private meeting with Paul Shaifer, President of the Federal Rader
Corporation (FedRad). Mr. Shaifer had scheduled the meeting to discuss the problems that had
plagued the company s important SPAWN Program during its first year and a half. These problems,
which included unauthorized design changes and Taylor s inability to control the program s cost,
schedule, and technical performance, had contributed to a cost overrun and schedule delay, estimated
at 30% and four months respectively, and a general loss of customer confidence.

Emery and Taylor presented and discussed the new organization on many occasions during the next
three weeks. Each presentation led to lengthy arguments and terminated in disagreement.
At this point, Emery was assigned to another task. Consequently, establishing an operational SPAWN
Program Office was left entirely to Taylor. When the actual engineering work was to being, Taylor had
been able to secure, for her office, only five people from the Engineering Department. These people
were responsible for technical management and program control. Greggson refused to give Taylor
additional engineers. Taylor was able to obtain from other departments one person to perform
manufacturing liaison work and another to act as Subcontracts Manager. She hired two Program
Control people.
Taylor felt insecure about her organizational support as SPAWN moved into high gear. Her feeling
was borne out during the next six months. By January of this year, the SPAWN Program was two
months behind schedule and a cost overrun of from 10 25% was projected. The problems leading to
the January situation are described below.

8. Gender Bias Within The Workplace
Gender bias is a concept that is seen every day, where society has taken upon itself to place male and
females in certain stereotypical categories. For instance, gender bias in the workforce is one of the
most common areas where women and men are treated differently. Women are supposed to work in
fields such as nursing, office work, and so on; while men work in the fields of construction,
engineering, athletics, etc.. In addition, there is a clear difference in the pay amount and promotions
that men and women receive. What s the situation and where does it need changing? What laws have
been passed?
Before anything, some may ask, what gender bias is well, gender bias can be defined as the
discrimination of one gender, giving the other gender more favoritism. Gender bias can also refer to
the unequal treatment of certain individuals, whether female or male. This treatment can be clearly
seen in the workplace standpoint.
Gender bias in the workforce has been present for centuries. It is a persistent problem that, despite the
progress that has already has been made, there is still much to be done before it can disappear. A
Gender stereotypic viewpoint in the workforce has been passed down from generations to generations,
and these sorts of ideas are hard to get rid of.

12. Analysis of the Closet Scene in Hamlet the Movie Essay
Hamlet is often seen as one of the most well known examples of an Oedipus Complex presented in
literature. The reasons for this is probably because of the plot that resolves around the revenge that
Hamlet has against his step father Claudius and because of the relationship that Hamlet has with his
mother that is loaded with sexual energy. Hamlet s love for his mother is especially exemplified by the
Mel Gibson s interpretation of the infamous closet scene.
Traditionally a Queen s closet was not worth emphasizing a bedroom, but it is likely that most of the
readers would presume that the closet scene takes place in Gertrude?s bedroom because of the
obsession that Hamlet has about Gertrude?s bed. When Hamlet responds to his mother?s ... Show

When the last kiss is given, the camera angle turns to have the bed as well as the two figures kissing in
the picture. Gertrude by the bed is the last focus of the camera you see when the scene ends.
Richardson?s Hamlet is not as much preoccupied with sexuality than Olivier?s or the Zeffirelli?s
Hamlet. The relationship between Gertrude and Hamlet in this film seems more impersonal than the
others. The viewer experience much more hate from Hamlet towards Gertrude in this film that
explains why Richardson left out a lot of the dialogue at the end of the scene, because he wanted the
focus to be more on the beginning of the scene where Hamlet?s words are much harsher towards
Gertrude, than at the end of it. At the end of the scene Hamlet accentuates the words: ?I must be cruel
to be kind? that demonstrate the point. The bed is not very prominent in Richardson?s version of
Hamlet that indicates that he did not want the viewer to focus on the on the sexual connotation that
goes with the bed. It is true on the other hand that Gertrude and Hamlet lied on the bed at the end of
the scene, but the viewer gets the feeling that it was more an indicator of the intimacy that goes with a
normal mother and son relationship than an Oedipus Complex case. Hamlet cried like a little boy that
lost his father and not like a lover that lost his mistress. When you compare the lighting of the closet
scene from the Richardson version with the Zeffirelli, it

Schools across the nation have hired a police officer to patrol the buildings throughout the school.
With an officer patrolling a school s campus all day, fewer acts of gun violence would occur. The
students would feel much safer if there was an officer patrolling the campus all day long. Also when
an act of violence occurs on a campus, the officer patrolling would be able to react quickly and
hopefully stop the violence. An officer at a school can do a lot more than protect the members
throughout the school though. Schools will hire officers that have first aid training. Officers could
respond to an emergency before any medical help can arrive. However, school officers might use
extreme force on a student, and people think that is unnecessary.

Director. The mission involves infiltrating the Russian consulate but this game is no Splinter Cell. Set
in an alternate reality where the Cold War is still raging, Polyblank must deal with robots, spies and
some of the strangest gadgets ever seen in a game.
The creators cite comedy films such as Airplane and Naked Gun as major influences on the gameplay
so if you are expecting any type of seriousness from Jazzpunk you are in for a shock. You are given an
overall objective for each mission that is started by swallowing Missionoyl pills by the way, but after a
level starts you are left to your own devices. I strongly suggest that you actually ignore your mission
objective for as long as possible and explore the environments otherwise you will miss out on some of
the best elements that the game has to offer.

Divorce is becoming a worldwide phenomenon, significantly affecting children s well being. It
radically changes their future causing detrimental effects. According to (Julio Cáceres Delpiano and
Eugenio Giolito, 2008) nearly 50% of marriages end with divorce. 90% of children who lived in the
USA in the 1960s stayed with their own biological parents, whereas today it makes up only 40%
(Hetherington, E. Mavis, and Margaret Stanley Hagan, 1999). Such an unfavorable problem has been
increasing, because in 1969, the legislation of California State changed the divorce laws, where

The main change of that law, which has contributed to immense (tremendous, massive) variations, was
that one spouse had the right to ask for a divorce without the agreement of the other spouse. (?passive)
It was called as Unilateral divorce . Another adjustment (? passive) was performed in assets and
partitioning of property on the chance of divorce. Until 1970s in case of divorce the properties
between spouses (?passive) were divided unequally. However, after 1970s it (?passive) was decided to
split up the estate equally. Statistics show that the divorce rate in the US is the highest compared to
other countries of the world (Ellington C, 2003). Moreover, every year almost 1 million children
become members of single parent family (Ellington C, 2003). Unilateral divorce negatively affects
their well being in the future. It clearly shows that children from divorced family have lower
attainments compared with children from intact families (Ellington C, 2003). In addition, Sampson

The Aspect of Love as Anoesis (pure), and Assertion (certain) and equal acceptance
There is nothing sweeter than a love as pure as gold and a love lovelier than a man s certainty of
emotions towards a woman. Indeed in Elizabeth Browning s Sonnet 21, it portrays the assurance of an
individual s declaration of love. It also gives you an idea about the purity and loyalty of Robert s and
Elizabeth s love for one another amidst all the obstacles they have faced.
Say over again, and yet once over again,
That thou dost love me. Though the word repeated
Should seem a cuckoo song, as thou dost treat it,

An allegory is a symbolism device where the meaning of a greater, often abstract, concept is conveyed
with the aid of a more corporeal object or idea being used as an example. Usually a rhetoric device, an
allegory suggests a meaning via metaphoric examples (http://literary devices.com/content/allegory).

25. Forgiveness In The Tempest
According to a recent research done in the Fetzer Institute of Psychology, 58% of the American
population has admitted to have held grudge. The theme of forgiveness, nevertheless, is a topic that
has been widely discussed before for instance, in William Shakespeare s play, The Tempest. In the
play, Prospero, an exiled duke who has been betrayed by his own brother, receives an opportunity to
fulfill his indignation as those who deceived him approach the island on which he settled. He conducts
a plan which involves dark magic, to avenge their deeds, hoping to ultimately cause the death of the
treacherous. In the first scene of the fifth act, his loyal servant, Ariel, described the condition of the
hostages whereas Prospero evaluated the extent ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
His assurance in his tempest is disturbed once again, and consequently he calls Ariel nothing but air, a
touch, a feeling (V.i.17). Prospero s partially condescending attitude towards his servant, represented
in this statement by the repetition of synonyms, is caused by the initial understanding of his mistakes.
He is not capable of confronting this truth and hence strengthens himself through the humiliation of
Ariel, while internally admitting his poignant deeds. This portrays that forgiveness is the ultimate
solution; as difficult as it is to reach it. He then states that the rarer action is in virtue than in
vengeance (V.i.17). These two words, one of the most contrasted pairs of words in the English
language, are put under the same context. The alliteration of the letter V in this statement signifies that
the both virtue and vengeance are optional, and it is utterly under one s responsibility and personal
choice which one to espouse. Virtue is listed first because of its vitality to the human society. As a
conclusion of this process, Prospero addresses Ariel once more; Go release them Ariel (V.i.25). The
phrasing which resembles a command, demonstrates Prospero s attempts to be fair, despite the
enormous pressure under which he is put. Referring to his first metaphor, he indirectly explains that
Prospero is now released out of the strife of revenge which has taken control of his

28. Comparing Odysseus The Odyssey And Today s Pop Culture
In Ancient Greece and today s pop culture, it is often seen for a heroic figure to face a villain who is
either simpleminded or naïve. This is evident in the epic poem, The Odyssey, by Homer. There is a
scene in the graphic novel by Gareth Hinds, that introduces the gullible cyclopes Polyphemus. With
little effort, Odysseus makes a fool out of the Cyclops. Odysseus tricks the Cyclops several times,
either when he gets him drunk or when Odysseus tells him his name. In Ancient Greek times,
intelligence was seen to be an important cultural value. It was often seen for gods and blessed human
men to face challenges where their intelligence is tested. When comparing Odysseus and the cyclopes
story to pop culture, J.K Rowling s Harry Potter, and Philosopher s Stone, is relevant. When the

created the master plan to use the Trojan horse to invade Troy, which is what led the Greeks to win the
war. Throughout The Odyssey, there are multiple situations where Odysseus uses his brilliances to get
him through tough predicaments. He creates a sea worthy craft, made from what little resources he

The Battle of the Wilderness was the first part of a major offensive strategy by a new Union General
in Chief, Ulysses S. Grant. Grant never planned to fight the Confederates at this time. His main goal
was to begin marching towards the Confederate capital, Richmond, Virginia. This was all part of
Grant s plan known as the Overland Campaign. The overall goal was to keep Confederate Commander
Robert E. Lee s famous Northern Virginia Army occupied with defending their capital so that Lee
would not be able to send soldiers to stop the another Union army from invading Georgia. Therefore,
Grant only wanted to get to the Confederate capital of Richmond. However, while trying to slip by

May 5th, 1864. The fighting was wild and chaotic due to the thick undergrowth and many trees
making it nearly impossible for one man to move swiftly, forget about an entire army. There were men
on both sides who got so lost that they accidentally went into enemy camps and were taken as
prisoners. Many of the wounded fell into the thick undergrowth and got stuck, later being burned and
killed by fires due to rifle fire. When night arrived, the battle was inconclusive, meaning neither side
had a clear winner. However, the Union managed to gain a position in which they could attack Lee s
right wing. Grant ordered for them to attack at 4 am the next morning. So ends the first day. On the
second day of the battle, May 6th, 1864, reinforcements arrived for both sides. The Union s planned
attack on Lee s army was slightly postponed from 4am to a little later than 5am so that commanders

On the 28th of July, every year, Peru celebrates its national declaration of independence s day from
Spain in 1821. This holiday is known as Fiestas Patrias . During this day, the national anthem is
played for the country. The national anthem is really important for the Peruvians. Reformers tried to

of Peruvian culture and history. The music part of the anthem, made by José Bernardo Alcedo, was

R. D. Laing made the statement, Life is a sexually transmitted disease and the mortality rate is one
hundred percent. This becomes apparent in Stephenie Meyer s bestselling series Twilight. Twilight is
about a teenage girl, a vampire, and a werewolf. Isabella Swan moved to a small town in the state of
Washington and while there she fell in love with some supernatural beings. What Laing is saying
about the mortality of humans is thrown out the window when vampires are involved, but the
mortality of humans is still a major plot point in these books. Edward Cullen, Jacob Black, and Bella
Swan are perceived as metaphors for the darker parts of mankind s existence.
Even though he is one of the protagonists, Edward is a stalker. Herold explains, He sneaks into Bella s
bedroom at night to watch her sleep. He follows Bella; some even state Edward actually stalks Bella.
He has a difficult time controlling his urge to drink her blood and to kill her (Herold). Edward s
obsession for Isabella Swan is being mistaken for overwhelming love. He wants their relationship to
be chaste until they are married because does not want her to get hurt. In Lev Grossman s article he
mentions that, It s never quite clear whether he wants to sleep with Bella or rip her throat out (TIME).

desires until after marriage. His impulses are seen as acceptable ones because he is a dominant

From Homer s Odyssey to Star Wars The Unchanging Path of the Hero
In the fiction world heroes have been one of the most entertaining figures. It has always been fun and
interesting to read about heroic stories and about different obstacles that heroes had overcome. When
someone mentions the word hero it is more likely to think of characters like Batman or James Bond,
but it is for sure that if we had the chance to ask the same question centuries before, the answer would
have been different. From comics or TV it is seen that heroes change physically and spiritually
through time, but the heroic pattern stays always the same when moving from ancient times to today s
heroes.
The first hero whose pattern I am going to unfold is ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Later he faces the sphinx and defeats her by answering her riddle. This is a heroic act, considering that
nobody else in the kingdom could find an answer to that riddle. This victory makes him a king and he
marries with his mother just like mentioned in the beginning of the story. This shows the difficulties
he has to face. At the end of the story he is realizes his sins and punishes himself This part can be
considered as his redemption, defeating the most difficult opponent he had ever faced: himself (Green
73).
The second hero I want to give as an example of heroic pattern from ancient times is Perceval who is a
knight of King Arthur s court. In Perceval s case heroic pattern is again starts with a journey and the
reason here is Perceval s need to find his mother, whom he left years ago to become a knight. He
enters the unknown in search for his mother and just like a classical hero; he faces trials on his way.
He fights other knights and defeats them. In his journey he comes across the Fisher King who is
wounded and cannot walk and the king offers a feast for him and he accepts. During the dinner he sees
a grail which is supposed to have great healing powers and a bleeding lance. Unfortunately, Perceval
doesn t ask the king the reason who does the Grail serve and why does the lance bleed.

In accessing the Equal Employment Opportunity Office (EEOC) website, I found it very hard to find a
clear and concise reason as to why small businesses were treated differently than the larger businesses
and why the law would differentiate between them. These smaller organizations are sometimes treated

may not be able to hire people that fit into the different classes (EEOC, 2008). For example, they may

39. Communication Technology In The Gilded Age
Following years of reconstruction, the U.S. entered a new age. For this new age, Mark
Twain named it after the glittering surface of the time that was covering the vast corruption
underneath. The late 19th century would be called the Gilded Age (Mintz, S., McNeil, S. 2016). From
this Gilded Age, a powerful businessman made his mark in American history. John D. Rockefeller
ruled the American oil industry. Using his incredible knowledge of business, he rose up through the
age to become one of the most influential businessmen in history.
Amidst the 1880s and 1890s, the nation was changing. Technology, entertainment and the population
were all seeing intense transformations. Looking back, much to the technologies of the late 19th
century can be seen in the modern United States. This age included the development of
communication technology including the phonograph, the telephone and the radio. Transportation
technologies were also evolving into more modern versions. These technologies included automobiles,
trolleys and electric trains. At the time, immigrants, especially those from Hungary, Italy, Poland and
Russia, were flooding into America. This massive increase of the population led to the horizontal
growth and vertical rise of urban cities as we know them today. The events that occurred during the
Gilded Age would be what helped Rockefeller become the King of Oil (Krasner 2014).
