The presentation discusses how the Green Revolution changed economies and cultures. It introduced high-yielding varieties of wheat and rice that increased agricultural production and improved food security. This led to economic changes like higher incomes for farmers, more rural jobs, and industrial growth to support mechanized farming. However, overuse of chemicals degraded land quality over time. Culturally, traditions and simple living gave way to materialism and westernization as villages grew more connected to modern culture. While the Green Revolution brought many economic benefits, it also accelerated the transformation of rural societies.

5. Introduction
The Green Revolution refers to a set of research and
development of technology transfer initiatives
occurring between the 1930s and the late 1960s (with
prequels in the work of the agrarian
geneticist Nazareno Strampelli in the 1920s and
1930s), that increased agricultural production
worldwide, particularly in the developing world,
beginning most markedly in the late 1960s.
The Green Revolution was a period when the
productivity of global agriculture increased
drastically as a result of new advances.
6. Meaning of Green Revolution
By green revolution we mean a type of revolution on
agricultural front, particularly on food front so that the
nation is not to depend food imports in any way.
In other words, it means beginning of radical changes in
agricultural production, particularly in food products.
7. Nature of Green Revolution

uncertainty in rural Bangladesh
VII.Rural agricultural production
VIII.Rural industrialization

8. Change of Green Revolution on
economic factors
Like other developing countries, Green Revolution has influenced the economy and
way of life in India to a great extent as is evident from the following points:
A. Positive Impact
Increase in production and productivity: The introduction of Green
Revolution in 1967-68 has resulted in phenomenal increase in the production of
agricultural crops especially in food-grains.Now green revolution increases
productivity more and more.
Prosperity of farmers:With the increase in farm production the earnings of the
farmers also increases and they become prosperous.
Reduction in import of food-grains: The main benefit of Green Revolution
was the increase in the production of food grains, as a result of which
there was a drastic reduction in their imports. We are now self sufficient
in food - grains and have sufficient stock in the central pool.Sometimes we
are in a position to export food-grains also.
9. Economic factors cont…
Capitalistic Farming:Big farmers having more than 10
hectares of land have tended to get the maximum benefit
from Green Revolution technology by investing large
amount of money in various inputs like HYV seeds,
fertilizers, machines etc.
Ploughing back of profit:The introduction of Green
Revolution helped the farmers in raising their level of
income.Wiser farmers ploughed back their surplus income
for improving agricultural productivity.
Industrial Growth:Green revolution brought about large
scale farm mechanisation which created demand for
different types of machines like tractors, combines, diesel
engines, electric motors, pumping sets etc
10. Economic factors cont…
Rural Employment: With the introduction of Green Revolution
technology a large number of farm labours get better opportunities
of earning a livelihood.
Change in the Attitude of Farmers:Green Revolution has
brought about a basic change in their attitude towards farming.
B.Negative Impact:
Degradation of land:Due to change in land use pattern and
employing two and three crop rotation every year land quality
has gone down and yield has suffered.
Excessive Use of Chemical Fertilizer:Due to heavy chemical
fertilizer inputs land has become hard carbon material has gone
down.
11. Economic factors cont…
Weeds have increased:Due to heavy crop rotation pattern we do
not give rest to land nor we have time to employ proper weed
removal system which has increased weeds.
Pest infestation has gone up:Pests which we used to control by
bio degradable methods have become resistant to many pesticides
and now these chemical pesticides have become non effective.
Loss of bio diversity:Due to heavy use of chemical pesticides,
insecticides and fertilizers we have lost many birds and friendly
insects and this is a big loss in long term.
Chemicals in water:These chemicals which we have been using in
our farms go down and contaminate ground water which affact our
and our children health.
12. Economic factors cont…
Water table has gone down:Water table has gone down due to
lack of water harvesting systems and now we have to pull water
from 300-400 ft. depth which was 40-50 feet earlier.
Loss of old seeds:We have started using new seeds and lost old
once since new once give better yield but due to this we have lost
many important geens in these seeds.
Damage to food quality:Pollution with heavy metals and pesticide
chemicals causing serious damage to food quality from the safety
point of view.
13. Change of green revolution on cultural factors
Cultural factors are very much influencing and changing village
community.
Due to the influence of western culture and increased number of
school going children, the village people have started disowning
many cultural institutions.
Materialism and individualism is now replacing spiritualism and
collectivism.
Simplicity, purity and love are being replaced by crookedness,
cleverness and hatred.
Glamour and fashions are replacing simple living and highly
thinking. Fashions have become the order of the day.
There are far-reaching changes in customs, dress, habits and belief.
Both the young and the old in the villages are being rapidly
influenced by westernization.
14. cont…
Examples:
Before we spent our leisure time to gossiping,
gardening, reading story books but now we
are involving in internet, facebook etc. So we
can say that we are in depending technology
more and more.
Now farmers are using tractors, electric
motors, pumping sets etc. So Green
Revolution changes economy and culture
extremely.
15. Importance of Green Revolution
Of course Green Revolution is important.By Green
Revolution, our economy and culture are changing
rapidly.
The productivity of global agriculture is increased
drastically as a result of new advances.
With the introduction of Green Revolution
technology a large number of farm labours get better
opportunities of earning a livelihood.
As a result industrial growth is increasing.
16. Importance of green revolution
cont…..
By green revolution scientific cultivation is
possible.
Green Revolution changes our attitudes.
Research in Agriculture is increasing.
Training facilities is adequate for green revolution.
Modern methods of cultivation is increased.
17. Conclusion
The Green Revolution was a period when the
productivity of global agriculture increased
drastically as a result of new advances. It changes
our economy and culture rapidly. It is a success field
in world.
