4. Introduction
The Green Revolution is a term used for rapid increases
in wheat and rice yields in developing countries brought
about by improved varieties combined with the expanded
use of fertilizers and other chemicals inputs has had
dramatic impact on incomes and food supplies in
developing country.
The Green revolution has facilitated institutional and
social changes in rural areas and provided opportunities
for self-sustaining economic growth and reduce poverty.

5. The Neolithic Revolution or
First Agriculture Revolution
occurred around 10,000- 12,000
years ago.
During this Revolution,
nomadic hunting and gathering
took place.
Asia was said to be the first
place where plant domestication
took place.
Presented by group-E 5
6. It introduced technology to the
world.
During the Second Agriculture
Revolution:
Farming methods increased
greatly
Crop yields were improved
Storage size expanded
Distribution systems enhanced
drastically.
Irrigation is supplying dry land
with water

7. Start of the Green Revolution
• The 3rd agricultural revolution is called Green
Revolution .
• In the early 20th century. Its early dramatic
successes were in Mexico and the Indian
subcontinent.
• 1970’s: spread to millions of third world
farmers
• 1990’s: 40% of all farms in third world
– 75% Rice in Asia
– 80% Wheat in third world
– 70% Corn worldwide
• Improved standard of living for millions
people worldwide

8. What is Green Revolution?
Introduction of new technology in agriculture
sector, in order to increase its production through
different measures.
The Green Revolution was a period when the
productivity of global agriculture increased
drastically as a result of new advances such as new
technology , chemical furtilaizers and synthetic
herbicides and pesticides.

9. Economical Changes of Green
Revolution cont…
Presented by group-E 9
Increases in agricultural production:
The introduction of Green Revolution in 1967-68 has resulted
in phenomenal increase in the production of agricultural crops
especially in food-grains.
Prosperity of Farmers:
With the increase in farm production the earning of the farmers
also increased and they become prosperous.
Reduction in import of food-grains:
The main benefit of Green Revolution was the increase in the
production of food-grains, as a result of which there was a drastic
reduction in their imports.
10. Economical Changes of Green
Revolution cont…
Capitalistic Farming.
Big farmers having more than 10 hectares of land have tended to get
the maximum benefit from Green Revolution technology.
Ploughing back of profit.
The introduction of Green Revolution helped the farmers in raising
their level of income.
Industrial Growth.
Green Revolution brought about large scale farm mechanization
which created demand for different types of machines increased
considerably.
Presented by group-E 10
11. Economical Changes of Green
Revolution
Rural employment:
While on one hand , large scale unemployment was feared due
to mechanization of farming with the introduction of Green
Revolution.
Change in the attitude of farmers:
Green Revolution has brought about a basic change in his
attitude towards farming
Presented by group-E 11
12. Cultural changes of Green
Revolution
Changing the trends of living.
Changing the modes of communication.
Changing the modes of food habit.
Changing the trends of cultural activities.
Intensified practicing the culture and it’s
development.
Presented by group-E 12
13. Negative impact of Green
Revolution
Increasing dependence on other countries and
spend money to import.
Forests land converted to farmland.
Increasing disparity between large and small
farmers.
Increasing dependence on technology/
machine.
Presented by group-E 13
14. Negative impact of Green
Revolution
Poor farmers can not buy those machine and
produce little crops .
Urbanization caused for it.
Caused a greater economic inequality between
small holders.
Political leader in rural area used negative side
of disparity between rich and poor farmers.
Presented by group-E 14
15. Criticisms of the Green
Revolution cont…
Presented by group-E 15
Green Revolution hasn’t
alleviated hunger .
Economic power, land
controlled by few.
Technology benefits wealthy
Therefore Green Revolution
increases inequity
More hunger AND more food
at same time
16. Criticisms of the Green
Revolution cont…
Presented by group-E 16
Food Insecurity of poor not
addressed
Cash Crops: food flows from
the poor and hungry nations to
the rich and well-fed nations
Green Revolution not
sustainable
Early, poor had little access to
credit
Could not buy seeds, fertilizer,
irrigation to make Green
Revolution work
17. The Next Green Revolution?
• Biotechnology helps farmers produce higher yields on
less land.
• Technology allows us to have less impact on soil
erosion, biodiversity, wildlife, forests, and grasslands
• To achieve comparable yields (1950-1999) with old
farming methods, would have needed an additional 1.8
Billion hectares of land
Presented by group-E 17
18. Conclusion
Green Revolution has done a lot of positive things ,
saving the lives of millions peoples and exponentially
increasing the yield of food crops. But environmental
degradation makes the green revolution and overall
inefficient ,short : term solution to ta problem of food
security.
So, more sustainable and environmental friendly system
of cultivation needs to be practice .
